Starting point is 00:00:00 welcome to but am i wrong a podcast where we two people who have not once ever been wrong talk about other people you people when you've been wrong and also you people yeah the people right in okay and also the ted cruz's of the world and the other enemies of our podcast leah michelle i will be talking about ted cruz in a little bit gina rodriguez someone suggested me a show and they're like this is so good the cast is great i looked it up gina rodriguez and i said will trent yeah it always tries to make me watch it after uh general hospital she's not in the first season i think what happened was is that she has an overall deal with abc and when her show got canceled then they just put her on wiltrend oh to be one of those bitches with
Starting point is 00:01:06 one of those deals damn that would be nice in in-house casting yeah but i just can't get into it mostly because i mean i tried to watch that show because i like cc from uh-huh she was on the other show i tried to watch it for her but i just couldn't get over gina no and like it's like i don't have i don't have that gene like the one where you can like make the the difference of cilantro like genuinely i can't do it yeah like it's even when it's visceral her husband was on bold and the beautiful and i was like one this man can't act but then when i found out that like and to not act on that show is quite a feat yeah and when i found out that he was her husband i was like oh she got him on the show because that's where she started out and they have on
Starting point is 00:02:00 the youtube channel they have a full because they put all the episodes on for some reason for bold and the beautiful all the episodes are up on youtube on their official youtube page without commercials yes or the or they there's like they have ad breaks um but they're not in where the ad break should be because they're not going through and putting where the actual markers are but i digress but they have a whole playlist that's just gina rodriguez and i was like she definitely got him a job on here because as man cannot act if you told a potato to act that's not mr potato head or mrs potato head just think of that he's looks good and that's it oh he has no personality no charisma it was awful damn that's crazy yeah anyways okay so we have three different segments
Starting point is 00:02:53 we'll explain each one of them before we get into it but uh what you need to know is that we love you to participate so not only listening watching you can watch over on patreon but we also love when you participate in one of our specific segments we'll get into but you can vote on who you think was wrong in each part of this episode over on our instagram story we also post that in our highlights so it's a regular story 24 hours and you vote who you think was wrong in each one of those things and then we also love when you write in about why you voted the way you did your thoughts and feelings and then we read the results as well as all of your messages over on our episode called see you next tuesday on tuesday so that's the results for the
Starting point is 00:03:30 previous week so you can vote for this week's episode you know make sure you're following our instagram megan and melissa stay up to date and then you can listen to this whole episode and then vote the way you want to vote. Votes are going to come up quicker now. So be fast. She's talking to me. No, I'm talking to everybody. Okay. You're going to have to post them. If we're going to start recording on Wednesday, you're going to have to post it on Tuesday. And then everybody else has got to be ready. Listen. Yep. All right. Time to get into, but am I wrong? But am I wrong is when we present something from our personal life or something we just feel very passionately about it might be a rant it might be a hot topic but just know we are here to dish it up serve it
Starting point is 00:04:16 out and get you fed hot topic all right what is a filibuster a filibuster is an action such as prolonged speaking which obstructs progress in a legislative assembly in a way that does not technically contravene the required procedures. And even though I learned about what a filibuster is in junior high school, the impact of a filibuster didn't truly sink in until I watched a television show. One of the greatest television shows of all time. One show that we bring up quite frequently on this show so my but am i wrong for today is if tvs rot our brains why did scandal teach me the importance of a filibuster more than my eighth grade civics teacher and what do you mean that melly grant was not an employee of the government
Starting point is 00:05:17 and she wasn't making that that uh puny teacher salary so this all happened in season five episode nine of scandal called baby it's cold outside melly can't in good faith vote for planned parenthood bill which is these are the most i'm addicted to these the most left-wing republicans that ever existed by the way i do think that this should be categorized as a fantasy show but i think it should be courtroom drama political fantasy because shonda i hear you i feel you these are also the republicans of my dreams yes that melly grant goes i can't defund planned parenthood right it would be horrible so she decides to do a filibuster she can't leave the podium to eat go to the bathroom after many hours of rambling melly's back bladder becomes her biggest enemy
Starting point is 00:06:14 and it should be noted that at this point she's now divorced from fitz and olivia is living in the white house i'm addicted to this like the fantasy of a republican president moving his mistress into his black mistress his former campaign manager professional fixer who has quite literally they know that she knows where the bodies are buried because she buried them yes and then like thankfully susan ross pops up asked her this question and then that allows melly to she asked this long-ass question that allows melly to go to the bathroom and then like while she's in the bathroom she finds out that olivia actually set up the question which like if we've been watching recent news we saw that questions were being handed to
Starting point is 00:07:09 cory booker to give him a break um and they were asking very lengthy questions um he didn't actually go use the bathroom but melly did found out that olivia has set it up they have like a little truce moment and then at the end of the episode olivia goes and has an abortion and gets rid of her and fits his baby yeah because fetus had to tie yes it all had to tie together. But that episode really just really informed me on how a filibuster works. And since Trump and Musk took office, yes, I said and, the left has been asking, the left as in we the people, we've been asking the Democrats, what are y'all doing? You need to do something. We've seen ICE snatch people up off the street. We've seen segregationist language being amended. We've
Starting point is 00:08:03 seen the stock market plummet and continuously plummet every single day. We've seen marginalized people be under constant attack. So Democratic Senator from New Jersey, Cory Booker, decided to do something. And while it's not technically a filibuster, since there was no legislation being held up, what he did was a form of protest. I know a lot of people keep saying that like it was just theater. He was just doing it for show. It was protesting. That's like saying when we go out and march that it's just for show because we're not getting immediate action from it. So then Senator Booker engaged in a prolonged speech on the Senate floor lasting over 25 hours to protest the Trump's administration's agenda. He prepared for this by fasting since Friday and he stopped
Starting point is 00:08:52 drinking on Monday, taking any liquids so that he would be prepared. He aimed to voice the concerns of Americans he believed were being harmed by the administration's policies. He wanted to show a strong Democratic resistance to Trump's agenda. He began his speech on Monday evening, concluded Tuesday evening. I went to sleep on Monday around 9 o'clock p.m. and I woke up at 4 a.m. and I saw him still going. And I was like, nobody's talking about it. But then I realized that my hours a little off. And that's probably why nobody was talking about it. He was longer than Ted Cruz's 21 hour filibuster against the Affordable Care Act in 2013, which for some reason put him on the stage, the public stage. And his filibuster was classic. And then the previous record was held by
Starting point is 00:09:51 Sean Thurman, which was 24 hours and 18 minutes. In case you don't know who Sean Thurman is, he's a racist. During his time, he called for continued racial segregation and opposing federal civil rights laws. He, along with 18 other Southern senators who were then Democrats, signed a Southern manifesto, a statement that called for resistance of desegregation in public education in the wake of the Supreme Court's landmark Brown v. Board of Education. He filibustered every civil rights bill that came through the Senate. He was filibustering for 24 hours and 18 minutes. Imagine having that much hate in your heart. Professional racist. Yes. And then after it passed the next day, he joined the Republican Party. And I just want to point out to
Starting point is 00:10:44 people that in 2002, when mostly everybody listening has been alive since then, he turned 100 years old and he was still in office. He retired in 2003. This man died basically while in office. So Cory Booker, he read letters from constituents affected by Trump's policies. He discussed various topics, including sports, poetry, but also highlighted a lot of people that were fighting for civil liberties in the Senate. He spoke about his personal history as a descendant of slaves and slave owners. He took questions from fellow Democratic senators who also were reading letters from their constituents. This action reflects Cory Booker's desire for stronger opposition to Trump. He said that he can't speak for Democrats as a whole, but he
Starting point is 00:11:44 believes that Democrats have contributed to where this country is today and that Democrats need to do better. The speech was just something, the speech wasn't just something that was said on the Senate floor. It was meant to grab the attention of the media and we, the people, non-lawmakers that are deeply impacted by this. And I think he succeeded because a lot of people were talking about it. Cory Booker isn't a perfect politician, which he even stated during his speech, but that doesn't diminish what he did was historical. Like he really brought awareness to a lot of injustices that have happened under Trump's administration. And not just that, he like there wasn't a point I was constantly like turning on all during my workout on Tuesday morning, like I
Starting point is 00:12:33 was listening to it the whole time and then like I would pop in throughout the day to listen as well and there wasn't a point where he was just meandering about something this man was like bringing down the fucking house and stating facts and because of Shondaland and Mellie Grant I was able to fully recognize how impactful a marathon speech can be on the senate floor thank you I love it i love it this is the first time in my life that like we literally said before we were like save it that i was like this is hot like this is like and everyone's like well he's an athlete okay sorry i i've never looked at it before i'm like well that's an athlete i didn't even know he played football until after this when people were talking about how he prepared and trained
Starting point is 00:13:22 yeah for this because his his team had binders upon binders upon binders and just kept bringing them out like they've been they had to have been working on this for weeks oh yeah well and i do wonder like what comes after this because like nothing can't like yes it's not like an actual bill that is being trying to be passed in that moment but like you can't do other fucking senate work so like now they know that like if they someone can start tomorrow and do another one and someone can start tomorrow and then it's like yeah now nothing's gonna get fucking done and i'm just so glad that he made the choice to be the first person to do that and i hope other people follow suit and i yeah i was impressed i have to say like even just like the media attention
Starting point is 00:14:04 typically i think anything involving like bodily function and like genitalia is weird you know well is it it's something that you should not be asking people about like elective but this i'm like he's taking open arms because it's like yeah put this in the news put this in the press keep talking about this shit and even right after he was done he actually wasn't done because he was doing interviews after yeah he was wearing an aura ring and his team was monitoring wait aura ring you talk about how ugly apple watches are you should get an aura ring no it's going to be it's like the opposite of help it's it's helpful for people it would not achieve because i need to be able to look at it oh you know that's the issue like well apple watch is still there then i know
Starting point is 00:14:52 um or a ring has a chance because i have to say the biohacking tech in general is like very fucking maha alt-right like really anti-intellectual like it's like it's like pseudo-intellectualism masking as real intellectualism they have a wonderful opportunity to align with the right side and by the right side i mean the left and do like a campaign or something with that that'd be really cool yeah wow yeah i loved watching that and also people who are like oh my god he's just like campaigning by the way i don't care he is i don't care awesome love that republicans can't campaign all the time all the fucking time and the perfect i will always say a perfect politician is a non-elected politician like without all the time like you
Starting point is 00:15:35 will not be able to find that and like you know say this is someone like lifelong californian i am very familiar with gavin newsom and his shit do i still want gavin newsom to run for president of course yeah do i think he will be wonderful no do i think he will do some things to get us closer to where we want to be uh-huh yes of course of course or at least get us to the center i'm like i would kill i would kill for i would kill to be back in the era of the mitt romney republicans all right well we're gonna take a break and we get back we'll get into megan's we are back from our break and it's time for my hot take and my hot take is ghostwriters are for memoirs they are not for novels and it is objectively fucking crazy if you get on a podcast
Starting point is 00:16:43 and say, I didn't have a ghostwriter, I wrote it myself. And then you find a ghostwriter who has the cover of your book listed in their published works to show people that they wrote this. Now, who am I talking about? Might I be talking about someone who wrote a quote, wrote a sapphic love story after having their entire platform be really male-centered and all about their them being heterosexual their dating of all of this stuff and did they start to you know did people fans start to think oh my god this is a big coming out story this is going to be a part like this who's writing a sapphic romance with zero perspective on that at all and also this person might have also written a non-fiction book which might have solid solidified them in the eyes of
Starting point is 00:17:38 lots of other people that they are of course writing this second book as well uh-huh uh-huh and uh would this uh person have already sold the rights to this book to a production company to make this into a tv series prior to publication date yeah and is this person executive producing this aforementioned TV show that is in the works based on their novel? Also, yes. And this person, are they a repeat offender on this show? Yes, they are. Fucking tanks. This shit is crazy. Now, have I been a hater since day one? Yes. Have I specifically been a hater? Have I specifically been a hater? As soon as I saw this getting released, I said, I smell something and it smells sardine no anchovy tilapia whatever it is fishy
Starting point is 00:18:34 fucking fishy as hell and then it gets optioned immediately optioned immediately by the two of the two of the worst people you've ever you've ever heard of and I'm like no way no way then I find out what the book is about a gay romance huh huh huh I am floored I am I'm shocked she quite literally got on Jeff Lewis's podcast and said I did not ghost write it I wrote this no you didn't you you didn't write this book and again I will say you know Kendall and Kylie they wrote the novel that you stood in line for wasn't that the one or is it the the biography i don't know what i was in line for it was kindling kylie but i don't know what it was for but it was a book wasn't it no no no it wasn't a book they were having a um lot they had a line in pacific sun
Starting point is 00:19:33 pacific sun okay yeah i said it like um okay government like it was the 90s pac sun yeah okay so but they also i know they wrote a book yeah i think they wrote a novel this wasn't this was PacSun it was at PacSun and so here's my thing do I think that Kendall and Kylie sat down and like wrote like a I don't know I'm sure it was like a YA like a Hunger Games era level novel or about like some too rich girl no for those are those are children of course not but when you pride yourself quote unquote I'm pretty sure she says she's a New York Times best-selling author with parentheses there's probably a dagger in there but like when you like say you went to Stanford for writing you you you were a right you're a writer when you tout yourself as a writer
Starting point is 00:20:14 and then you have to pay a ghostwriter for a fiction. Make it up. It's fiction. Lie, bitch, lie. What the fuck? And like, you couldn't pick something that's like, and it also feels like specifically targeted to a community that you think is like,
Starting point is 00:20:28 like a representative way. Like, oh, they're going to like, this is going to blow up this way. This is going to be so successful. It's going to be wonderful. First of all, no one's first novel is great. And if someone's first novel, not, not great. I mean, no one's first novel performs insanely great.
Starting point is 00:20:42 It, it doesn't. it's just some do I mean but you not usually like you're not getting option before it comes out it's just like it is an absolutely insane unprecedented thing for her to then just attach on like yeah I'm I'm I'm a writer who you know got big on TikTok before my writing got big and I'm like no no no no no no no and I'm just like what I need to know what's gonna happen like i have to understand what like are you gonna say anything is is house is gonna come out like because what do you because what do you mean because what do you mean i have a lot of thoughts on this but i can't share them because i do work in this industry but i will say some memoirs
Starting point is 00:21:30 also shouldn't have ghost writers oh i i agree with that i don't i i i agree with that i just think it's i think it's also just crazy because this off the writer also the ghost writer also writes they're not an anonymous yeah do they mean so like they oh i know so anyway i just told megan a story i have a lot of thoughts on this that i cannot repeat because i may yeah i i'm not gonna let something get in the way of my money but um you shouldn't a lot of people shouldn't be having ghostwriters i can understand a ghostwriter as far as someone that's just helping you put things into words but when you didn't help with anything no no no no no no there's no nothing personalized in this no well also because like as someone who's written a book you have an editor so like
Starting point is 00:22:24 this whole thing of people like oh you know it was just like it was they helped me it was just more of like a sounding board i was like you have an editor like this idea that they paint this idea that editors just like cross out things that are spelled wrong and that's it like that being an editor is like not like a literary forward job it is and it's not a it's not like grammar forward entirely and also in general editors will send it to multiple other people because the hardest thing to catch over and over again is grammar and spelling because you just get desensitized to it so like your editor is giving you notes yes like story notes tonal notes like word change says like maybe like what if we tried something else here like working with an editor is can be a very
Starting point is 00:23:08 collaborative process but like I liken it to being like basically like saying that that's what the ghostwriter did was a collaborative like that's literally not what they do what I respect is when people put their quote-unquote ghostwriters on the book because then I know like put them as a co-author that's fine maybe you had an idea and you couldn't put it into fruition and this person doesn't have the name recognition you have put their name on the book and and then when any but when any credits coming they also get credit well and also because like people like oh well you know ghost reading always means like some people don't want to have like the credit for it or whatever most of the time people who are doing that it is memoirs because there's not a lot of create like
Starting point is 00:23:50 a creative like tonal specific voice that you have as an author that's being used in that it's kind of like not to you know it's it's not as simple as this but it is a little bit more well i was gonna use the term you just used i don't make you laugh it is a little bit more straightforward and a little bit more just like analytic like it's just like you're splicing in those things together and you're like okay here let me do this and do this and it's it's like designing a fucking house in sims that's not your house you can like bird's eye view you can see this you can see how the story goes you can do all of these kinds of things but like you don't have to worry about painting the color of your walls in your own home versus a a novel you are coming you're you're
Starting point is 00:24:28 having to create these character voices and then you don't get credit for it at all and like by the way you can have a pen name if you don't like anyone who's like defending this whole thing of like i'm not against ghostwriting at all but ghostwriting is not for memoirs if you don't want anyone to know who you are you can have a pen name for your novels people do it all the time people do it all the fucking time but um yeah i think this is a great time to plug gabrielle corn with k-o-r-n she's a writer editor and strategist most recently she ran lgbtq plus strategy at netflix she's editorial leadership roles editor-in-chief at nylon director of fashion and culture at refinery 29 she has written a lot of books she is a wonderful art she's a wonderful
Starting point is 00:25:11 writer who writes a bunch of like pretty successful queer romance from what i have read and if you go to her website gabrielcorn.com and you click manuscript services and you go to ghost writing right under we just have a giant thing of tinks's book from new york times best-selling author tink and i'm gonna tell you what she contributed to this without a doubt what she contributed the premise of it is like a influencer gets canceled and then goes to the hamptons she's been to the hamptons and she she has been canceled because she she is a fat phobic racist and a bigot so sounds perfect um and it is just objectively fucking crazy to then also be on your press tour and lie about it yeah you don't get to call yourself a writer also because
Starting point is 00:25:58 i why i also take issue with it is most people who have memoirs even if they like wrote them but if they have like a singular book and they had a ghostwriter they don't call themselves an author they don't like do you what i mean like it's not whether they credited their ghostwriter or not i think you should always create your ghostwriter but like i'm pretty sure hayes had a fucking memoir i could bet all of my all of my money that hayes does not walk into a room and say i am an author this is my log line this has become this is now a part of me this is if i pick three words about me one of them is author but that stinks this whole fucking thing all right we're going to take a break when we get back we'll get into but are they wrong
Starting point is 00:26:39 and we're back and now it's time for but are they wrong That's when you guys write in to butamirongpod at gmail.com and share the predicaments that you have fallen for, fallen into, fallen, fallen, fallen. And so keep it to 300 words or less, or you can use our form, the form. You can also put in a voice memo and then we will share right here, just like I'm about to do now. this is for a would I be wrong in the future because nothing has actually happened yet I 25 she her have gone on two dates with this guy he seems great we get along well and we plan to
Starting point is 00:27:46 continue to go on dates I work in a small city in a relatively niche field where there aren't many companies in this field this guy also works in my field but in a different town and he's planning on moving to my city to find a job i know my company is hiring but it's a small company 10 people i don't plan on telling him this would i be wrong if i told him that i don't want him to apply to my company if he brings it up the job part is all hypothetical but i just don't want to date somebody i work with okay so he's actually moving to the town the hypothetical is if he would have a job get a job there yeah so here's my thing though if you're dating him and you are going to continue to date him at some point don't you want to be in the same city as him
Starting point is 00:28:38 so if y'all both work in the same field won't it be difficult for y'all to be in the same place because long distance does need to have an end goal it's fine if you're just like we're going to date and that's it but if you like you want to be in a real relationship with him at some point you're gonna have to live in a in a place where you both can have a job and so since this is a hypothetical would you be fine if y'all move to a bigger and again you've only been on a few days with him but hypothetically speaking if y'all move to a bigger city where you can work for two different companies but like we gotta at some point this is going to come up if you continue to date him because y'all are either gonna have to work at the same company or you're going to
Starting point is 00:29:26 have to move well my question is would this company like hire him or not hire him because you are dating him because like i think telling him to like not apply i think that's weird don't do that like but but i also think like i would think as a company if he he if you guys are dating let's say this is like this is again hypothetical months down the line you're actually dating and he gets a job interview there he has to disclose that you you and him like hey i you know i need to disclose that depending on the work culture not all companies require that i would just if it's a very small company they tend to be a little more in your business so i would just think that like or would you be in trouble if like you didn't say anything and then it was like came
Starting point is 00:30:15 out that you were dating before and like if you are in any sort of managerial type of role would people think that he got it you know like i just wonder like in to me i feel like the more likely circumstances and outcomes would be that you know he asks you for an intro so you can vouch for him so he gets a job because you are dating that he kind of gets pushed to the top of it. Or you don't say that you're dating and he says, oh yeah, by the way, like we are dating.
Starting point is 00:30:49 And then they're like, oh yeah, we don't want to hire someone who's dating someone who already works here. So like for me, I don't think that like there's much that you need to do to interfere. Do you know what I mean? Like, I just think that like, if he has, I think the company,
Starting point is 00:31:03 if you said, you'll be well within your right if he said, hey, could you get me a connect? like could you give me a reference or connect me to someone here and you could say like i you know i i like it's a small company like you know i really want great things for you but like that's i don't do that or we're not whatever like i just think that like doing it if it happens if he asks for a reference but like asking him to not apply is weird yeah so i think you'd be wrong if you asked him to not like apply to that job because i think you already have the job there so you have the upper hand i think unless you give him a recommendation i don't think they'd
Starting point is 00:31:41 hire him because they'd be like it optics are just a little odd what is the the recommendation if you've never worked with him before like what does that recommendation even look like that's like if your uncle owns the company and you're like hey uncle could you please like so like i would even i would look at your company's policies as far as like what the dating policies are because like also if you already have an established relationship before he comes to work most companies are fine with that yeah but and he could probably get you know references from other people that wouldn't necessarily have to be you the issue i think is like him moving there is planning for y'all's future so was he not already planning on moving
Starting point is 00:32:28 there i don't know i don't know because it depends on the city it just depends on the city um but you you say you're in a place in this niche you told us exactly but i don't know if he was already planning on moving then like did y'all match because you had similar job titles did you match he set his city to be where you are these are things questions that should have because like if he said his city because he knew he was moving and then y'all connected then maybe i'm just joking i'm just joking but what if someone did that that's crazy i've actually heard people do that where did i see someone talking about that somewhere oh they raya now apparently they say raya is like literally people are just on ride a network and i was like what
Starting point is 00:33:21 success stories do you know from raya there are some celebrities who were on there implying that they were just there to network i'm gonna tell you from their messages they were not there to network they were there to network this pussy okay sorry well so i think this is just a discussion that if you want to be in a serious relationship with him then you need if you don't have a discussion with the fact that like i don't want you working at the same company as me then i don't think this is the kind of relationship you should be in you should be in a truthful of relationship so if you were to not tell him about the job then I think you're wrong that's where I land on that if you tell him like hey there's my job is hiring or if he finds out
Starting point is 00:34:03 they're hiring and then or something like that or even she he she knows that he wants to move there or he's moving there and there's a job opening I think that that's being deceptive and if you're looking for a long-term relationship with this partner if y'all don't have an open conversation about what you're expecting yeah because i would i would never date an actor but for my friends i would never not tell a friend that i just got an audition for something that they are way better for and that they should audition for it but like i think if you're cool dating someone in your very small niche field then yeah you have to be cool with this i wouldn't want to work with someone that i am dating but also i would not swipe yeah but like for i if we're in a a job
Starting point is 00:34:56 i i work in a different field than what you work i would i would be fine if i was in a different position or they were in a different position we're in the same field but different position yeah i would never date an actor because yeah i would i that that to me but i would do that for us i would do that for a friend so i think if you are willing to if you are cool with dating someone you're very niche field then you kind of need to be cool with the rest of that because if i wasn't cool with doing that with friends who are actors then i can't be friends with actors yep you know so i think you're yeah because i wouldn't be be cool with this but you went out with him so at least a little bit of you is or you're really horny and that's fine too but you
Starting point is 00:35:38 need to be honest about that hey megan and melissa i could really use your help with an ethical dilemma regarding whether it's ever okay to call the police here's the situation last sunday around 9 p.m my partner and i noticed extremely loud music coming from an unknown source somewhere outside we've dealt with this in the past it's so ominous we've dealt with this in the past the last time this happened was about a year ago the music started around 9 p.m on a sunday night and didn't end until well past three in the morning they're called quote unquote boom parties boom boom boom where folks hook up a bunch of speakers to their cars and blast super loud bass-heavy music.
Starting point is 00:36:15 The sound carries for miles and it is loud. Soundproof headphones and earplugs aren't doing it. The bass shakes people's homes. I confirmed to several community members online that it was bothering people. One parent said it was upsetting their kid with autism. Someone mentioned it was triggering their epilepsy. No one knew exactly where it was coming from,
Starting point is 00:36:32 so it's not like there was an individual we could just ask to turn the music down. Am I wrong for calling the police and encouraging others to do so in this specific context? my thinking is that the more people call from different locations the better chance we'd have of finding the source i'm shocked that no one there's not a fucking nancy drew in this community the way that i would have hopped in my car pjs and everything on finding the source got to figure out where this boot where's the boom coming from the boom boom boom i guess maybe you're not by the
Starting point is 00:36:58 way if i called lapd and i said someone was playing loud music and i said where and i said it could be miles away here's where i am they would not even come like they just i would need to give them a fucking cross street yeah like to say are you wrong for calling the cops i can't i in any situation like what were the exact words before i just start whether it's ever okay to call the police i've called the police recently i've talked about it on one of our shows i can't Like I've done it. So no, like, no, you aren't wrong to ever call the police. I also lived in an apartment complex where somebody had got evicted from their apartment. So then they moved into the garage that was directly below my apartment and they would take a hammer and just beat on the ceiling starting at 2 a.m.
Starting point is 00:37:57 and I couldn't sleep and it was so loud and my whole apartment was shaking and I called the non-emergency number for the police officers or for the police department if this is causing such a nuisance I feel like the people that are closest to the source should be the ones that are calling if you can look out your window and see specifically those are the people that should be calling which is why Megan like also said like getting in the car and figuring out you can follow the sound i i agree with this wholeheartedly like i think that there is a community responsibility similar to again like what you had talked about with what you encountered where like bystander effect is like really fucking real and same thing like when i talked about how we like drove by a
Starting point is 00:38:42 like brush fire on the side of the freeway and i called because if i'm where i'm at and like i see smoke outside not near my house but on a fucking mountain or some shit i can call and say hey there's smoke somewhere in the distance of the horizon that is not helpful right someone who is closer to that will be calling if you are within like the range of like i need to do something about this because no one else might if it is bothering you like you said it is bothering people who are closer so i don't i'm not gonna say that like oh i think you were wrong for calling the police i don't know how effective your specific call was like and then everybody you're telling everybody to call then you're just clogging up the phone line no it's not like
Starting point is 00:39:35 you need multiple reports and then they go okay well i guess we'll really come see no no one you call one time you know if you if they don't come or whatever there might be a bigger things there but yeah this is the time for having an app like citizen this is the time to like get well they were saying that they got on an app and people were bothered by it but like we need the you just zero in on the location yeah because if it's citizen it's usually congregate from 911 calls so like you know like can you see it and whatever it is i just think that like if it is bad enough that i have to call the people i hate more than anything who i know can't really do anything but it is like my moral obligation to try and take the fucking last line of defense that this
Starting point is 00:40:22 could possibly be helpful at all then i need to make sure that it's helpful yes that i'm doing that and like i've also called the cops and like did they do anything no of course not but like if i didn't do it nobody would have yes and like like when i was in my situation so many people were driving by I made a loop and came and parked directly where they were I took pictures I took notes and then I went to make sure that I could still see them but I was in a secure location and then I called oh yeah if you are not close enough to get video of anything evidence pictures whatever without putting yourself in danger then it yeah I I just I same thing like for me I'm like there are times where i haven't called the police but i have filmed an entire reaction and i have
Starting point is 00:41:14 given that to someone when they filed a police report like but it would make no sense for me to call in for that because that is not there there it is affecting someone else is far more deeply affected by this who can give a personal statement i can't answer questions i don't know i don't know this i don't know this i don't know this i don't know this so because they're gonna ask you a lot of questions if you don't have the answers to it it's not helpful well they're just going to they're just not going to come they're going to screen your call and then you're they're going to screen all of your neighbors calls because they also don't have information it's going to be they're going to treat it like spam like it's going to be like oh if one of our officers is
Starting point is 00:41:50 in the area and they also hear loud music maybe that will be the thing there but like they're not going to start patrolling around again i guess less is a really fucking small town they're not going to start like randomly patrolling around trying to find it they just they don't have the time. They have to make DUI checkpoints and they have to like, you know, unlawfully detain people like they have other they've other things to do. They have to go to Winchell's Donuts. They have to sit in their car outside of Home Depot for an hour and a half. They have to take Snapchat while driving in their car. So the police are very busy, very busy and crouching on other people's human rights. So if you do need them to work for you
Starting point is 00:42:30 in the way that they promise is how it's intended you actually do need to kind of do their job for them and just like hand them the hand them everything so but i mean hey if it stopped like within 20 minutes of that then maybe it was effective but i would be i'd be pretty curious to hear if it did or not all right we're gonna take another break when we get back we'll get into but are they we are back it is time for but are they wrong where we nominate a person place or thing someone in the current events, pop culture, zeitgeist. And we say, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo.
Starting point is 00:43:29 I don't like it. We haven't called them Rachel of the Week in a long time. Oh my God, yeah. The Rachel of the Week. There's just so many, we just have so many bits that we always, I just forget them all because we're just so creative. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:43 My pick for this week is a police officer. No. Which kind of has become my thing this year. uh their name is not just an officer sorry a police chief named robert farley who's basically turned his department the north bergen police department into a frat house and here's what he's done oh my god i thought we almost picked i changed mine but i thought we almost picked the same one but now i'm thinking this is different and it's crazy how they all sound like yeah so a bunch of cops have filed legal notices they're like steps away from suing him because
Starting point is 00:44:22 this dude is out of control one of them lieutenant alex guzman straight up said farley's actions are meant to humiliate people and here's a little rundown of what he's done spiked coffee with adderall and viagra oh that would taste really bad adderall doesn't taste good pooping on the office floor stuck a hypodermic needle in a guy's um keyhole sending sex toys and pride flags to officers homes cool for the pride flags but like an ally yeah he's been blocking promotions giving them the word shifts also making officers do his daughter's homework like writing research papers yes like he's straight up harassing people and abusing power the town is saying oh these guys are just mad about overtime oh yes but come on like who does this and a lot of the cops are also
Starting point is 00:45:35 scared to talk which just shows how bad it is but also cops have in the fraternity way they protect each other the hudson county prosecutors prosecutor's office is looking into it which is good but the people in this city deserve to have a department they can trust i guess but they just have a boss who doesn't harass them the chief needs to be held accountable this just isn't this isn't just like plain office drama this is human decency and the rule of law he's just disgusting he's a weirdo there's also pictures no thank you actually which one he's used it of which ones a few of them no melissa you have to pick when you do the slide melissa tell me which ones they are so i can at least mentally fucking prepare myself
Starting point is 00:46:30 i'll i'll just pick one for you okay oh i'm scared this is insane and most of the way that this is so close to another one that i almost picked but i didn't about this guy who i don't know if he's a police chief or something but he's got like this very well regarded program that helps like lessen sentencing for people so like you know they do similar to like california firefighter work that inmates will do and like prison labor but specific jobs that they will do for that that are like positive and helpful for the community that helps lower their sentencing and they're very coveted positions to get not everybody gets them and it's like again a very well-regarded rehabilitation and uh redirect redirection program and he like literally is
Starting point is 00:47:19 like with making like women inmates like hang out with his wife and like go with her to get her nails done and like work on his personal farm like it's supposed it's not about to be person it's like not personal can't do all of that and like they were like literally had to be friends with her and like answer her phone calls and just like beat like all of this kind of stuff and like no one wanted to speak out because they didn't want to lose those privileges but this one is like it's as if he heard that and said bet let me show you have you ever heard of needles and he also like shaved his arm i just sent you a picture of himself with no shirt on shaving his arm over somebody's desk he also would shave his arm over people's food he also was fond of
Starting point is 00:48:03 scraping fluids from his underwear onto people seated in his chair this is fucking this is fucking insane yes this is like middle school boy but like humor to the level of like written in a sinister a24 movie who becomes a you know what i mean like it's like it's like these cliches and these tropes of like you know frat boys doing it ever but being like whoa you took it to a level by the way frat people start frat guys already kill people like you took it to a level of like such specific and like niche goal like grotesque like gross out trauma in the workplace it that's crazy also his dad and his grandfather were both the deputy chiefs so he's a big grown-ass nepo baby wow so well i miss who i was before i knew about that he threw glasses at people like
Starting point is 00:49:08 drinking glasses plaques what do they have plaques for i can't imagine you got bossy employee of the month i like imagine if that was your husband no thank you he looks like a legit thumb he does i'd take a thumb thumb over that like it's not good like a big toe all right your turn my turn my rung of the week i would like to nominate kenneth de georgio the ceo of first american financial corporation now is this rich on rich crime yes so at any point am i saying that the person who is the victim in this situation is a saint a wonderful person no did they deserve this crime absolutely not but i just want to say that because it does take place in a cruise ship super yacht in portugal so it's getting very um chandelier it's getting very like tv you can set
Starting point is 00:50:15 the stage so um allegedly or authorities have said that uh kenneth de georgio choked a male victim uh following an incident with his wife nicole georgio de georgio i'm never gonna say this right and then the spokesperson for uh mr georgio said he was just protecting his wife and he's very eager to clear his name because he was just protecting his wife and he said that he was just responding to the actions of an individual who harassed his wife making her feel threatened and intimidated and what was threatening and intimidating well uh the victim the person who was choked is a man just using the initials ma we don't have anything more about him from this he was dancing barefoot on on the ship there on the rocks bar which i thought was a what what a
Starting point is 00:51:01 detail we needed to include when d georgio's wife said can you put some shoes on is that's how she said it went uh and said look we're all grown-ups here can't you put your shoes on and he apparently said something to the lines of fuck no threw a middle finger up you know partying drunk having fun then security saw sees a footage of after that mr giorgio taking this man by the neck slamming him against a wall and choking him out so he says that the that mr giorgio used a lot of force and it felt like his throat was going to be ripped out and he said i'm going to fucking kill you then mr giorgio was uh put in put not sorry confined not i said times they put in a time out he was confined to his room until authorities were there his wife was like well
Starting point is 00:51:51 yeah maybe i should not have told that man to put shoes on but like he was just protecting me she also said yeah he also just never touched me so you know um and he his team says uh that he's looking forward to being absolved of any wrongdoing which is really rich when there is security camera footage of him choking this man out and slamming him against a wall and his wife saying i told him that he should put some shoes on and um maybe i shouldn't have done that and also yeah he flipped me off and like swore at me no he did not put his hands on me yeah okay okay what else was going on or what was the husband on that's a great fucking question it's a great question i have a lot of questions about because this is like what you know that there are cameras here on this ship
Starting point is 00:52:46 like this is not the story you and you and your wife are not having the same story like this is not this is just like not not not not it whatsoever and this to me is just like it's just crazy it's so it was on the virgin voyages cruise ship in international waters on the resilient lady cruise ship and they're both california-based financial oh no sorry he is the ceo of a california-based uh financial company and i hate seeing men's toes not to the point of physical assault you know i hate seeing toes period me always and i really hate to see a straight man's foot as i always have socks on so i'm not triggering anyone else yeah and you're on a i have to say people who want to police other people's behavior on a cruise ship
Starting point is 00:53:42 right birds of a motherfucking feather like but like you're on a cruise ship if he wasn't barefoot his toes were still going to be out in some flip-flops and if you are concerned about germs i have some horrible news for you you're actually on the worst place for that like there is just the even the idea of like asking someone to put their shoes on is great i would want that i would never ask someone can you put your a stranger who's drunk and dancing maybe leave the on the rocks club maybe we just maybe we just don't maybe we just don't and this is what i have to say sometimes there is there is some good use for these bajillionaire riches and that is rich on rich crime because there's no way that this man's short fuse is brand new first day
Starting point is 00:54:34 test driving it out this is probably the first time that he has gone off on someone who is has just as much money as him just as is politic i mean is uh financially able to cover these charges as powerful as him or successful whatever lord of the flies take each other out take each other out so hope ma is doing okay also the fact that he's not issuing his name i'm just like trying to think of like very rich and famous mas but a lot of very rich people are able to stay anonymous a little bit easier than the rest of us and we would never know they're not household names they've just got all that money an ma could be their their first name you think it's ma they love but like by the way take him take him
Starting point is 00:55:26 Yeah, Monica Taken. But really rich people love to just do two initials as their first name and then have a last name. And really rich people love to just do a line as their signature. And you're like, well, I don't want someone forging it. I was like, okay, okay, for sure. I just think it's also like crazy to be this rich and be on a fucking cruise. Like, I don't care where the fucking cruise is going. You have a level of standard that requires no shirt, no shoes, no service.
Starting point is 00:55:55 Get off the boat, motherfucker. get off the goddamn boat what about that cruise that kyle and i want to go on that's not a cruise ship size is it i mean it's a massive cruise ship is it yeah how many people it's a cruise ship cruise like okay like carnival yeah but high end yeah it's like the same ones that always kept getting advertised me after the election that was like i'm just like the four year special uh on the seas and i was like no there's not enough dramamine in the world for that but no and hey if it is that high end someone else is having to put his shoes on and i think if like you said it was a virgin cruise so it's i don't know is that a is that
Starting point is 00:56:41 a virgin voyage that's not like a thing but that's like we would know about that that's like yes that's a very virgin voyages on the resilient lady okay so yeah it goes to greek isles and the caribbean it's adults only oh they have live entertainment a casino and a night club they have a tattoo car alert that is a bad fucking idea yeah all right well they're dumb they are dumb don't get on a cruise and not expect cruise behavior toes will be out yeah that's like getting on a cruise and then being pissed there's like a soft serve machine what the fuck did you think you were gonna get or shuffleboard there you go all right that's the end of our episode thank you so much for listening tell a friend to tell
