and i don't know if you know about this um but a summer associate at a big law firm is a self-proclaimed fighter and allegedly in a icebreaker get to know you where the rest of us are struggling to come up with what's my icebreaker she knew exactly what to say and that's she likes biting people and you know what she's not a liar she's not a liar she does like biting people um and she was at Sidley is like the big law firm that probably means something to some people doesn't mean anything to me but it's in the in the New York office so what happened was she's she she followed up and she was good on her word and she started biting her co-workers and um according to insiders at the firm pretty much pretty much from like the start of summer

and when she got there she started biting her co-workers and that quote-unquote not in a we're beefing way i have to say above the law.com they did i think they were the first ones like really do a whole report on this but this is how they wrote this is hilarious not in a we're beefing way but more of a faux quirky manic pixie dream girl cross with a donner party vibe so um it is now said or rumored to be that her uh trump count is up in the double digits and people this person said that they've seen pictures of the bites and like they're saying that nimble they think was a little bit too tame of a word like it was photographed on on there um and apparently this was going on unreported for like quite some time like she was there for

for months she she was working there and this basically started she gave everyone a warning ham a biter and then from that moment on she started biting and she stayed for months and it is unsure why that it took so long for someone to actually report it oh sorry few weeks not a few months um so she damn sorry she got a lot of she got a lot of bites in in those few weeks so she has not been publicly named but she has been accused of biting at least 10 people including other summer interns associate lawyers and what most people think was the catalyst for this termination was in fact a human resources representative at the law firm and um the people at the firm said the betting was not described as aggressive but rather being framed

as offbeat or a faux quirky as of now we have no idea where she is she's in hiding and i would god forbid a girl of hobbies let her let it tell us about you because i i have so many questions and i'm gonna say this right now she doesn't seem like she'd be a bad lawyer yes she does why one i don't believe this story because also in the report they were saying that people started wearing sleeves because they were afraid of getting bit but they're lawyers they have on suits like unless they're doing non-profit work and they all have on polos i don't believe that lawyers are walking around with their arms out two people shouldn't be biting other people i do not want your bodily fluids on me three you're being contradicted because that i know i literally did

that that woman you were on the other side and i know it's an old man but like still people should not be biting people i have so many questions though because like why did we say this in our icebreaker how was it received in our icebreaker why did nobody report this for so long and here's the thing it could totally be fake but like a lot of lawyers are fucking weird like this could also fully check out to me and how has she gotten this far in life biting so that's so mostly that's all i want to know that's all that's all i want to know why i want her to come forward because like i would to me i think we found the next tony robbins like i just don't know how you could get to be this successful and then not only that i don't know how you could get

up into the double digits before finally going a little too far like yeah this is a lie there has to be and and if it is a lie i want to know who started this rumor because it's also really funny and that person probably also a good lawyer they are spinning a tall tale and that's they're also just a writer and they were doing a writing oh they never were a lawyer to begin with yes and you know what it all comes down to whether it's real or fake whoever wrote it or whoever did the biting everybody has their own hobbies lying on the internet hey lying on the internet i can get behind as long as it's not hurting people and it's not just like you know just flat out lies that affect other people's lives this is not going to affect anybody else's life

can you imagine biting do not put your mouth on me no unless we are fucking it is also disgusting i do have to i cannot stress enough that like if this is true the way that i would have reported this person before they even made contact when their mouth is just open coming towards me when they said i'm a biter and no one in the room was like weirded out by that and then the first person unless she's like hot and this person was trying to like hit then like there's that's the only way that you get around this but like i just it's a lot like i don't believe it well you're right because i think that she had to have been biting men because i don't think anyone anyone be like what the fuck are you doing get get your teeth away from me get this gnawing off of me and to

do it in a law firm of all places where people know the law and know how to use it to their effect this is a lie and i love it if it's a lie i love it if it's a lie like it's just so funny to me that this is and it is a gotten this far that like everybody is like everybody on law talk is talking about like all of these kinds of things but my favorite thing has been seeing like lawyers being like honestly like i could see it and i'm like okay what now tell me about your experiences like what do you mean you could see this happening i already have like people that are social media lawyers and social media doctors some of them helpful some of them just like to start controversy and say i'm not your doctor but or i'm not your lawyer but like that one that was

on uh love is blind i knew him from tiktok before he was on love is blind he was filming love it he was already done filming love is blind and then he got famous on tiktok but like i already knew that he was up to no good not that he said anything bad but he just likes to take things that are controversial and be like if i was a lawyer in this situation but like you like to go on a reality show so that already tells me something but also like these are not billable hours like go go are you do you have that much free time I probably wouldn't advertise that how much free time you have um but yeah I love a hobby all right we're gonna take a break when we get back we'll get into mine

all right we're back and mine is a rant on paramount and democracy so i want to address the recent event that on the surface might seem like just another business decision in the entertainment industry which is the cancellation of the late show with steven colbert by cbs after a decade on air cbs and its parent company paramount insist it was a purely financial decision but as we delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this move it becomes clear that this is far more than a financial matter it is in fact a profound threat on the very foundation of our democracy and the principle of free speech for 10 years stephen colbert has been a fixture in American late-night television. He took over The Late Show from David Letterman

in 2015, building on a legacy of sharp political satire he honed during his time on The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. He perfected the character of a right-wing pundit, skewering politicians and media figures alike, and he brought that same incisive wit to CBS. despite the broader fade out of late night tv colbert consistently led the ratings outpacing rivals like jimmy fallon and jimmy kimmel he became a critical voice especially during the tumultuous political landscape of recent years unafraid to speak the truth to power and hold leaders accountable through humor this role the role of a satirist the court jester is not merely entertainment, it is a vital check in a healthy democracy. The media catalyst for Colbert's

cancellation appears to be a specific monologue he delivered on July 14th, just three days before the announcement. Colbert slammed Paramount over its $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump. Trump had alleged that CBS News' 60 Minutes deceivingly edited an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. Colbert on his show did not mince his words. He declared, and I quote, I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in the legal circles. It's big fat bribe. So why is this important? Because Paramount, CBS's parent company, is in the midst of an $8.4 billion sell to Sky Dance Media, a merger that requires governmental approval from the FCC, an agency influenced by the executive

branch. The timing, the nature of the settlement, and Colbert's direct accusations created a firestorm. Just 72 hours later, the show was canceled. So this brings to the core of why this is a threat to democracy. Jon Stewart, Colbert's mentor and fellow satirist, articulated it powerfully on The Daily Show. He rejected the notion that this was purely a financial decision, stating, I think the answer is in the fear and the pre-compliance that is gripping all of America's institutions at this very moment. He went on to say, institutions that have chosen to not fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair doodling commander-in-chief, this is not the moment to give in. Stewart's point is critical. It's not necessarily about direct order from a

political figure, but about a chilling effect, a self-censorship born out of fear of retribution. As MSNBC's Chris Hayes put it, not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leaders on TV without repercussions. If media corporations fearing financial repercussions or regulatory hurdles silence critical voices then they are sacrificing free speech for profit and political appeasement the writers guild of america east and west issued a joint statement and they expressed significant concerns that the late show's cancellation is a bribe sacrificing free speech to curry favor with the trump administration as the company looks for merger approval they warned that a corporation

terminating a show in bad faith due to explicit or implicit political pressure is dangerous and unacceptable in a democracy society. Furthermore, reports from the New York Post and Fox News suggest that Skydance, the prosthetic buyer, is happy to set aside time in support of conservative causes in the future. If true, that means a major media entity could become, as the text states, a full-fledged propaganda arm of the Trump administration, following the playbook of modern authoritarian states like Hungary and Russia. This is a terrifying prospect for a nation that prides itself on free and independent press. This incident is not isolated. It fits into a broader pattern of relentless attacks on free expression by the president and his allies.

We've seen Trump file a $20 billion lawsuit against Dow Jones and the News Corp over Wall Street Journal stories, despite Rupert Murdoch's own media empire often being favorable to him. We've seen demands that private institutions ban discussions of diversity and inclusion, threatening funding and civil rights lawsuits. We've seen threats to pool support for football stadiums unless a team reinstates a racist name. These are all forms of blackmail, as the text describes, designed to silence and dissent and control the narratives. As The View co-host Sunny Hostin warned, if this cancellation is political, then everyone should be concerned. People on the right should be concerned. People on the left should be concerned. Because it's very clear that if it is political, this is the dismantling of our democracy. This is the dismantling of our Constitution.

she emphasized the first amendment is the first amendment for a reason that is freedom of the press freedom of speech freedom to speak the truth to power if that is taken away if the comedians are being attacked then that means our constitution is being dismantled that means the very rubric of our democracy is being dismantled stephen colbert with 10 months left on his contract has not gone quietly he responded to trump's celebratory true social posts with a defiant go fuck yourself he rallied his fellow late night co-hosts and other celebrities in a powerful display of solidarity underscoring the under the collective understanding of the stakes involved this is not just about a tv show it's about whether powerful corporations will bend to political pressure whether the voices that

challenged authority will be silenced and whether the space of satirical critique, a cornerstone of a healthy democracy, will shrink. The cancellation of the late night show with Stephen Colbert is a stark warning. It is a moment that demands our attention, our scrutiny, and our unwavering commitment to protecting the fundamental freedoms that define a democratic society. postpartum at the time of their wedding my husband and i don't want to take the baby on a five hour plus flight stressful for everyone's low immune system due to not being fully vaccinated so the only realistic option would be for us to leave for two days to attend the actual wedding this would cost us around two thousand dollars given that we'll both be freshly back to work from partially paid paternity slash maternity leave and just recovered from the cost of being new parents this option doesn't sound great also aside from the money we both don't like the idea of leaving the baby overnight so young especially since i plan on breastfeeding so would i be wrong to miss my brother-in-law's wedding i don't think that you would be wrong if you don't want to go to the

wedding i think like if your husband can fly in and fly out is that his brother i think so yeah yeah that's what i'm trying to figure out like is it like someone getting remarried that like whatever but like i think like four months postpartum like i you obviously you don't know how your postpartum like will like will go but i think like five plus hours of a flight like yes that totally like sucks but i think like if it's his brother i think i don't think you'd be wrong for not going i think you'd be wrong for being like you husband also cannot go if he really wants to go and he can set up having additional help and child care help for you there you know i mean i don't think he'd be wrong for not going no no if he wants to go i'm saying it doesn't

destination wedding is like like to me if you live in mexico you live in california you live on the west coast and you're doing like a mexico cancun cabo wedding i think like it is fair to assume that like you're not gonna get like 10 of the people you invite like i think you could like a good amount of people are probably going to come from there but i think like to me five hours regardless if you're still within like you wouldn't consider necessarily being like oh well we're not going to europe to me that's the same thing once you get that many hours of a flight then you have to be the kind of person where it's like to me you're having a wedding you're on the east coast you're having a wedding and that wedding is in cancun cancun is though like you

said like flying to mexico cancun is closer to the south than it is to us like it's closer to to like florida oh it's on the other side that will oh i get so confused with yeah okay but like in the sense that like even if it's like oh well it's not europe like to me i'm like five hours you're it's as if you're asking someone to fly eight hours like that is not if it's under three i'm like okay you're being more reasonable five anything over three i think the person having the wedding has to assume and almost want like virtually nobody like a very very small number of people like it's just too much and if it's important for you specifically for family to be there then you don't do that agree like i don't think there's anything wrong with y'all

missing this wedding you can have a little celebration of your own with them wherever you live if y'all live in the same place or you can celebrate them whenever you can but like no having going five plus hours with a baby or without a baby and you're postpartum no no it's just yeah and if you have a wedding five hours away you have to expect that so would not be wrong. All right. Next one. I'm Megan and Melissa. I'm 21. She, her, and honestly, I'm wondering if I'm wrong here. I'm a hairstylist, but I've always dreamed of becoming a teacher. When I was younger, I let other people's opinions, especially my family's influence, my choices probably more than I should have. My mom is a teacher and she actually taught me out

of pursuing education because of the pay and some of the challenges in the field. So I went to hair school instead. I do enjoy being a hairstylist, but I've recently made the decision to go back to school to become a teacher. The thing is, I haven't told my family yet. Only my best friend knows. And he's been incredibly supportive. I'm just scared that if my mom or brother told me not to do it, I'd second guess myself, even though deep down I know it's what I want. So my question is, am I wrong for keeping this from them? Should I tell them and deal with whatever their reaction is or is it okay to keep it to myself for now and just live my life and feel the way i feel called to i trust them and love them so much which is probably why their opinions affect me so deeply

maybe too deeply i don't think you'd be wrong unless they're paying for it that's the only way this would be wrong to me like i think if you can get away with the lie and like it's not like oh they're paying for it or oh my mom is a teacher at the school that i'm going back like if it's not any of those things then i'm like then it is a need to know basis and for you you recognize that like you take their opinions like you really you really hold on to that and the fact that you know that you shifted what you were planning on doing and then you live with regret of that and so you want to make sure that you aren't getting talked out of it again and i also think that like you know it sounds like like you said like you're still very close

to your family and you still like love your family and it doesn't sound like you're harboring resentment towards them for this like you're not looking for like a big moment of like i'm going to school because like you all talked me out of this is your fault but you're like hey i know that i might take your opinions a little bit too close to heart and i did that last time and now i kind of need to like be separate from this and independent to make this decision and also like not saying that you won't like love it or whatever but like there is something like about making a decision that you have felt either talked out of or kind of insecure about that you're like well I don't want to actually alert everybody because like what if they do end up being right and I do

end up hating it like I want to be able to kind of like figure that out on my own and will I hate it because I hate it or will I hate it because they told me I'm gonna hate it I just I think sometimes you have to admit things from your life in order to live your life when people are so opinionated about what you do. And I don't think there's anything wrong with this. Even when I was changing what I wanted to do with my life, um, and not going to med school or dental school, I, I just like kind of just went along with it and then told after everyone was supportive, but it was just like that fear that this had been instilled in me all my life that you're gonna be a doctor and then no i'm not uh so i just think holding off for a minute is fine and also

i don't know if your mom's concerned about like that time you have off in the summer you can still do hair i think this is the perfect plan actually it really is as soon as you said this i was like wait you actually like if you before you started talking i was like if this is about how do i give this up i'm like i actually don't think you have to give no it up and also like like you could work on the weekend if you wanted to and also like having a like a trade skill and certification like keep up with it like keep up with certifications and stuff but like having that is the most consistent whether it's like your career choice or an option or a secondary hustle or a fallback plan like whatever it is like that is so fucking consistent that it is something that

like is i think is a great choice so i think like that also might be what you're not you're also thinking that's like well i you know i don't regret doing hair but i do regret not teaching yeah and so this is like now you're having the best of both worlds and yeah and sometimes sometimes you just need to like tell people once like the return window is closed because it's like well tough shit yeah and you can also do people's hair in school if you want to too that's a great money to continue a great way to continue to make money yeah and like i without a doubt like hairstylists you you have the emotional aspect of being a teacher fucking down yeah down all right so uh you're not wrong

cancel like yes she canceled a reservation no she didn't cancel you also like they never posted anything publicly no one would know about this except you no like i'm sorry someone canceling staying at your airbnb is not you being canceled like that's not those are not the fucking same thing and i'm like you just forget what fucking words mean and so now she's making videos about it constantly being like i guess i'll take the sign down and then of course replies like the one person who's like keep it up and it's like they'll never silence our voices they're trying to censor us and she went on the news talking about like all of this kind of shit and it's just like my god the fucking snowflakes the absolute necessary of these are the people who who lose

it's a tale filled with irony, unintentional consequences, and a man who, depending on your perspective, might just be getting exactly what he asked for. And this is my perspective, so he is. And I think that he's actually getting exactly what he deserves. So Derek Huffman is a 46-year-old father of three from Texas. Earlier this year, he made a drastic decision. He claimed that the U.S. had become overturned by woke ideology and for him the final straw was his daughter being forced to talk about lesbian relationships in school oh god keep in mind they live in texas so in a move that made headlines he packed up his family and relocated to russia yes russia he was one of two families who reportedly answered an American blogger's invitation to move to a village

outside of Moscow, seeking freedom from what he called liberal gender norms and LGBTQ indoctrination. To secure an expedited citizenship process for his family, as he put it, to earn a place here in Russia, Mr. Huffman announced he would gladly join the Russian military. he told state media, if I risk myself for our new country, no one will say that I am not a part of it. Unlike migrants in America who come there just like that to not assimilate and at the same time want free handouts. Now, this is where the plot thickens. According to his wife, Deanna, Derek was promised a non-combat role he was assured he'd serve as a welder or perhaps even a war correspondent roles that one might assume would keep a father of three with no prior

amount of people who does he think that everybody else goes into war being like i i want to die i'm down i'm down to die and he's the only one going like i'd like to have an admin job and how do you convey that you can't speak the language he that's the thing is he can't like i've seen videos of men working out with bears in russia yeah and he can't even he doesn't even know if they're telling him to go left or right like he is not going to survive he's not going gonna survive the winter no like he you said he's in tech he's from texas yeah that man can't survive a russian winter if he makes it that far no i don't think he i think the last time they heard from him is the last time yeah and you know what i have to say there is no shot that his family

loves him and the way there's no shot i think she does like i why else would she make the youtube video and then channel and then delete it to me this is like there's no way you let your 40 year old husband do this without being like it's okay if he does let you think in this relationship she has a say in what is going on no that's true she does whatever he tells her to do also his poor lesbian daughter i know there's three of them i believe so i just hope all of them are like fuck y'all as soon as they can they get out they're like they're in school like are they school there like of all places to move to that they're not the first people that i heard of doing this too there's another russia like yeah there was these canadians that were like gotta get out

like I just witnessed how my time would go and they had to be removed from the show not because they were dying like not because of anything like they didn't get eliminated like they were they were doing fine except they were so constipated it got into a medically concerning point i was like yeah that would be me like that that is that would take me out is being constipated yeah in a stressful situation because like yeah i'm not pooping in the woods i'm sorry i want to in my mind i'm like that's easy my body says no my body says my body says no pooping anywhere other than my own house yeah so these people are dumb that's why i'm just saying i'm just going on the assumption that anybody i meet is just dumb yeah we have to meet them where they
