Hello, everyone, and welcome to a brand new episode of But Am I Wrong, hosted by two of your favorite hotties that orbit the earth in their own spaceship they don't touch this the tip they go around it we're gonna round town we're gonna round town double time made my whole desk shake which is already an issue with me fiddling around with everything welcome to a podcast where we talk about, you guessed it, when people are wrong. But am I wrong? Maybe. But are you wrong? I don't know. But are they wrong? Most definitely. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've got three different segments
Starting point is 00:01:43 on the show. We will explain each one before we get into it. And what you really need to know is we want you to participate. So you can participate in many different ways. But the overarching way to participate is to vote on who you think was wrong in each part of this episode. That we put on our Instagram stories. We have polls. You vote. Who do you think was wrong? Who do you not think was wrong and then you write in why you voted the way you did your thoughts your feelings and we read the results along with everything that you say about it don't worry it's all anonymous unless you don't want it to be and you say hey you can use my name or use my name by default we're not going to use your name unless you tell us to um and we read all of that over on our episode called
Starting point is 00:02:22 see you next tuesday yeah it's still not getting any easier so um it's a great time it's wonderful we love to hear from you we love the feedback in the sense of like sometimes you guys think of things that like we don't think of but also sometimes we get on deep dives with things me personally that i don't know much about and then i have really strong opinions people like oh my god then this and this and this very fun and uh we just get to shit talk together all right should we get into our first segment sure and our first segment is but am i wrong and that's where we pitch to one or the other as in megan and melissa uh either something that's happened in our life that is happening in our life or it is a rant or a hot take that we want
Starting point is 00:03:07 to know if we are in the wrong about i am first anti anti aren't i you aunt anti you aunt i am perfect perfect i did just open my text messages to try and find my notes that's not where they live okay mine is the word of law it's not even a hot take it is i'm calling you in and i'm pleading with you and that is do not let a man embarrass you do not let a man embarrass you publicly and there's a special place in hell for men who enjoy embarrassing their wives i'm already on with you there's a special place in hell for men who enjoy embarrassing their wives now we could we could talk about the male loneliness epidemic we could talk about like all these men and their feelings and they're projecting onto their safe person jury says i don't care boo boo it is
Starting point is 00:04:06 horrific and here's the thing i do not blame a woman for being embarrassed by a man i don't i don't put the onus of you of like your man embarrassing you it looks bad on him we do not need to normalize maintaining or staying with that or tolerating that especially publicly i think when you embarrass me publicly i get to embarrass you publicly but i think if we become the tit for tat maybe we just need to not do it at all like it's just it's horrific it's horrible and there is something just it's a thing that narcissists do which is like they take uh an event in a big event in your life an accomplishment a milestone anything they find a way to minimize it make it about them and like make it so you can't celebrate like make you feel stupid for enjoying this or
Starting point is 00:04:51 celebrating whatever that is and i just think it's horrendous and horrific and i have a lot of empathy for people who are like going through shit in their lives but as someone who's also been through shit my like you if you projecting it on other people is not how you come out the other end at all and yeah i hope everybody just whatever you've seen recently you would tell yourself that's unacceptable nobody deserves that and i i hope this person doesn't let that continue to happen and i hope that we don't we don't let people do that to us not that they need our permission but they they need our permission to do it a second time and a third time and a fourth time so fuck those men and if you're asking yourself who does this apply to who doesn't apply
Starting point is 00:05:36 to if the shoe fits put it on bitch call yourself sind of motherfucking rella like oh i agree with you because there's only so much that we can bear and we just because you love someone doesn't mean that you have to be with them and you shouldn't take them demeaning you in any type of way and i also think like it backfires because i think a lot of the time like as women like we're told to like you know hold your men up like you know support them they're going through this all of that when men treat you this horribly and they heal from it which is your goal in supporting them through this is for them to heal they cannot bear to look at you because you represent how horrible they were yeah the relationship doesn't work and it usually will it'll end on their end because
Starting point is 00:06:21 they're like well i can't i'm different now i'm grown and like you just remind me of that person who i was like there is no benefit by sticking by and sticking through that and it's like sad and like nobody's immune to it like it doesn't matter how much money you have it doesn't matter how much fame you have like men will do anything in their power to disrespect you agree now we're getting to mine it's also in the same vein actually i want to talk about something incredibly important today and some may think that this might be too late but i say it's right on time this impacts the well-being of countless children and the stability of families while mother's day has passed the spirit of honoring mothers and supporting their vital
Starting point is 00:07:06 role in raising children the ones that actually do it is a year-round commitment and that's why i'm proposing that we implement a consistent global initiative to champion child support accountability not just as a one-off event event but as an ongoing priority for every community Just recently, Suffolk County, New York, they had a powerful example of this commitment in action. Sheriff Errol Tulin Jr. and local officials unveiled a wall of shame, spotlighting individuals who collectively owe $1.5 million in unpaid child support. these weren't just abstract figures these are resources thousands of dollars as sheriff tulan said could have gone to food clothing doctor's appointments or school supplies for the children my initiative that i'm proposing highlights a crucial truth the immense often solitary burden carried by mothers when a co-parent fails to meet their financial responsibilities
Starting point is 00:08:08 as Suffolk County legislator Trish Bergen eloquently put it a lot of times a two-income household dissolves and then the mother is left there holding the bag financially and emotionally and this isn't about shaming for its own sake even though these men should be shamed it's also about accountability it's about recognizing that children suffer when parents choose to abandon their obligations. As Sheriff Tulin emphasized, it's really the children that suffer, even though these men may think they're punishing their former girlfriend, wife, or significant others. Now imagine if this type of proactive accountability, this public dedication to securing children's futures, were a standard practice everywhere. Imagine if, throughout the
Starting point is 00:08:56 years, communities worldwide consistently call for financial justice for children, visibly acknowledging those who fail to provide and celebrating those who step up every day. This isn't about punishment. It's about empowerment. It's about sending a clear message that societal well-being hinges on shared parental responsibility. It's about reinforcing the fundamental truth that children deserve consistent support, love, and resources from both parents. By making child support accountability a continuous visible effort of publicly putting these men's faces up, we send a powerful message. We value our children and we support the parent who tirelessly raised them. We reinforce legal obligations and create a
Starting point is 00:09:43 stronger safety net for families. So I urge you all to consider how we can adopt this proactive approach to our own communities, ensuring the critical issue of child support is always at the forefront let's make it our collective mission to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive that every mother is empowered not burdened in her essential role as sheriff tulin passionately states our children deserve better let's commit to this cause year-round making sure that financial justice for children is a reality not just a hope brava can i just say that was giving and i mean this is a comment very susan ross from scandal when she gets in her impassioned speeches i was getting very much susan ross energy thank you i was feeling like
Starting point is 00:10:31 yeah yeah and i had already seen the tiktok but suddenly i was like uh suddenly my hands are up yeah wholeheartedly and i have to say as someone who like i am vehemently against the police infiltrating their personalities into their job like i really don't like when they have facebook pages be like come on over to the jail who we've got warrants out for these people i'm always like ew stop you fucking freaks this was the only time that i was like i like whatever personality hire started this one like this because this is actually for good this is not like hey someone like missed a court date and now we're gonna post their photo on facebook to go viral in other places that are not even the fucking county we're in exactly and also the number that some of these
Starting point is 00:11:16 men owe ridiculous like the way that like mathematically i don't know these men's names so they are not rich and famous enough for this to just be for one child this has to be for so many fucking kids and the fact that like men will quite literally like take pay cuts quit their jobs work under the they will completely abandon a corporate career path to work under the table for cash so they don't have their paychecks uh garnished like or they send the mother of their children two hundred dollars a month and be like i that's all they're getting because i know that she's using that to get her hair done men don't know anything they don't you you don't know anything why that's not enough money but it's not even enough money to get your hair done no
Starting point is 00:12:03 it's not enough money for anything no like it was like yeah you're just she's she's just using this to go to clubs to go buy a purse purses are more than two more than two hundred dollars going to clubs is free she's a hot woman right and that's not enough to raise a child no at all per week that's a stretch and that's how i know i'm like oh so you were never participating because the fact that you think in general and i see people arguing against like child support like and how much someone's getting i'm like oh you don't know how much you're unfamiliar with how much formula costs you're unfamiliar with how much like diapers cost you're unfamiliar with like the idea that it's like why do you have to give this much do you want your kid to even have an allowance like
Starting point is 00:12:47 you have to live in a place that is close to the good school to the school district so they can reliable all of these things and it's like well i don't she's paying it for her rent okay where would you like where's the kid live yeah where would you like them to live so yeah i agree wholeheartedly with you thank you agree uh agree all right we're gonna take a break and we get back we'll get into some more at deja den insurance we know that when you own a nail salon everything needs to be perfect from tip to toe that's why our agents go the extra mile to understand your business and provide tailored solutions for all its unique needs. Starting point is 00:15:01 Keep it under 300 words. It is all anonymous. It's anonymous. Sorry. It is anonymous. So do not use your real name, but please use your real age. Tell us other people's ages in this. Give us the rundown of what you want to know if you are in the wrong about the circumstance or situation you have found yourself in or pondering over.
Starting point is 00:15:21 uh we've also opened it up to if you have a hot take or you have a rant or something you would like our thoughts on similar to how we do for our first segment do that submit that in as well again but am i wrong pot at gmail.com keep it in 300 words and i will say you don't have to do this but our audience loves some thematic aliases for these names keep it in a universe but again be wary of that don't pick ones that feel incestual because it it happens it's happened more than more than a handful unless you want us and then if it is incestual on purpose you please pick up on the incest undertones like there are incest undertones and overtones but i think we'll be able to pick that up once they share without a doubt okay i'm first
Starting point is 00:16:11 your key hi megan melissa love the podcast i always look forward to hearing your takes i thought you might have some insight into something that's been on my mind so i have a friend let's call her tara or tara how would you pronounce that i know both so go with whatever feels comfortable in your mouth we've been friends for about 10 years and we usually spend around 20 on each other's birthday gifts nothing major but usually thoughtful a book dinner dinner for 20 wow a little skincare a little skincare set that kind of thing in the past year tara has become am i switching it up you did tara in the past year tara has become a bit of an influencer she's grown a lot on social media goes to events and gets sent quite a bit of pr for my birthday
Starting point is 00:16:58 this year she gave me a bag full of beauty and skincare products some of it really nice stuff but it was clearly all for PR or free from events. A few of the products weren't really suited to me, wrong skin type, not totally my shade. So it felt like a mix of here's some cool stuff and here's what I didn't want. I was excited about it at first, but later my boyfriend asked
Starting point is 00:17:14 if I didn't think it was a little rude. He pointed out that she didn't spend any money or really tailored to me, just grabbed things she had lying around. And now I'm not sure how I feel. On one hand, I like the gift and it was technically worth way more than what we usually spend.
Starting point is 00:17:25 On the other hand, he's not totally wrong. Am I being ungrateful for feeling slightly weird about it or is my boyfriend being judgy? i love your take especially since you both get pr would it feel weird if a close friend give you a grab bag of leftovers for your birthday thank you okay to your last answer yes but also you have established it's at 20 and you are giving skincare you know what i mean like i think it is i think if it continued on over and over it would be weird but like i don't think i don't think there's a malicious intent behind it depending on what i don't think it was malicious and i think she's
Starting point is 00:17:59 thinking of it as $20 is $20 and it's more than $20. But if this was stuff she was never going to use anyway, then it feels like a throwaway gift. It's not really. There's no thought behind it. Well, my next question is, does she give you her PR that she doesn't want regardless? Yes, that's that's the thing is like Megan gives me stuff that's not right for her, but it's not in the form of a gift so i because like i don't think like there are certain times like a brand gives you a gift set and you're like oh my god this is so perfect for this person i'm gonna throw that i've like i've thrown stuff into gifts for other people like but it's an addition to exactly way back in the day for that kind of a thing but that's also because like i give pr like
Starting point is 00:18:49 i literally have a box of shit and i pass it around to my friends and all that kind of stuff so I think that like I think there was thought put into it if like she doesn't give PR to people she doesn't do that like you know and she like over the course of this time has been like setting aside certain things because I also would ask if this is somewhat similar in the vein of things that she would normally get you not to play devil's advocate you don't actually know that she did get everything in PR it could be that she went and bought you something and then was like oh this is a skincare thing is so great and then she went to a brand event for said like same thing and then brought a couple more things in on it i think it is like a messy kind of sticky situation i
Starting point is 00:19:29 personally i would give her this to be like one this like i think in general like sometimes people forget holidays they forget birthdays they like i don't think anyone everyone's gonna have like a win gift wise all of the time and especially someone who's like new at the influencing thing she might just think like oh this is really cool this is gonna be really wonderful people are gonna like this that's not it's not thoughtful and like she might be getting caught up into it i if you are very close i would give it this one time yeah the next do y'all exchange gifts for any other holiday and if you're getting the same thing yeah then i would be like we have a conversation yeah but i think like a one time one time you got a gift card i'm still not over that i'm like by the way
Starting point is 00:20:15 get me nothing like truly this is so fucking passive aggressive this is deeply passive aggressive so yeah i just i don't think that this is i don't think it's thoughtless i don't think it's malicious i but i'm not gonna say that this was thoughtful i think it could be misplaced thinking they're being thoughtful and it's not thoughtful but like very quickly i could without a doubt did you say how old you were no but it when i like first started i'm like 20 1920 I probably could have done this for a friend and like thought this was like oh my god perfect and like there was thought behind it but like the next year I've been like I'm not doing that that's like no like no no no I think the stuff that's not your shade or like
Starting point is 00:20:57 you wouldn't wear or like not your skin type that I think is thoughtless if there's like stuff that like she loves that like she's bought with her own money and then got gifted a brand new set I've had that where I'm like oh my god I have to give this to this person again it's always an addition to other things but yeah I I would this to me it feels like a oh a slip up a flub I don't I think unless it becomes a pattern I don't know that I don't know I kind of think in general like people get one one free pass on like a bad like a bad kind of gift depends on what the gift is though and what it what it represents exactly if but if it's paired with like a personality shift that you like really don't like or a sense of entitlement then i think yeah read into this
Starting point is 00:21:45 yeah but i also think if you haven't thought anything about it your boyfriend brought it up you might not have felt that kind of way about it but yeah also some people feel weird about giving things to like friends when they get like pr because they're like well i don't want it to look like like i'm bragging or whatever and i'm like oh my god just give your shit to your friends give me your shit yeah like megan would bring a box over and it's like this is stuff that does not look good on me i think it would look good on you and i'd go through it and be like and then i would say go again and get some for your sisters go again get some for the nieces yeah and i'm like we'll go to ups and ship about like i'm like i'm not leaving with this much left you have so many
Starting point is 00:22:27 women in your life grab more grab more because i felt like i was taking too much and she was like no get more i said get more i was like do you need gifts i've already told you do you need gifts for other people grab some of these things from for gifts so yeah i it's but yeah she might be if she's just starting out on this there's just like a yeah some people might just they're misconstruing like they're not to be like woo woo but like they're like blessings and things that they've gotten and wanting to find a way to share it with like friends and then they're like oh i have to wait to give it as a gift which i do think objectively is weirder it's why i also think selling pr is weird i think that's weird uh yeah i think that's really
Starting point is 00:23:06 fucking weird i also i think it's just wrong i i don't think it is a hundred percent legal makes sense all right here's mine or the pick for writer number two i want to rant with a crying laugh emoji. I like to dress up and some people would consider it overdress. I love to wear heels. I work in an office that is business casual and people lean towards the casual with jeans and sneakers. I have absolutely no issue with what others wear but I like wearing stylish clothes. I know that others judge me for my clothes but I feel more comfortable and confident expressing my fashion tastes. Still professional and modest, no office siren here. Also, I shop on a budget and then style things so it may look like I'm spending more than I am. I always tell
Starting point is 00:24:00 people if I got a deal and ask where I got something from and I'm excited to say if something came from even Walmart. I don't think it's an issue to dress towards the more business side of business casual. I hate that the older women I work with are judging me because I'm younger and wear heels, but I'm not going to change how I dress just to make them feel more comfortable. They would probably find something else to be snarky about anyways. People should just be able to wear what they want without judgment. I'm in dress code. Here, here, I stand with you. As someone who wore heels to class in college as someone
Starting point is 00:24:42 who wore blazers and heels on set blazers in the club that was different that's different everybody was doing that everyone had peplum in the club yeah yeah yeah I
Starting point is 00:24:57 am all for wear what feels comfortable I wear what I like I like to be dressed up especially if it's an outing if it's a trip i like to shop for the occasion i don't think you i know you like telling people if it's a deal or not i don't know if you're doing that to make them feel better because they're like oh that looks expensive i love to word vomit a deal
Starting point is 00:25:24 sometimes but it's like it has pockets it's like the same yeah but you don't have to do if you just if you're doing it because you think you should tell them don't be you you're bad bitch and be a bad bitch and do what bad bitches do to help your case very rarely are sneakers business casual correct they're just casual unless they are and by i mean clean i mean right i mean smelling like right off the cow they are like white pristine or cream cannot be a dark color leather and the laces next next nearly blend in that you can kind of think they're a booty that is the only time a sneaker works and it's only with pants like that is not business casual so yeah i i love i mean melissa and i get a meeting we're both rolling up in three inch four inch heels like
Starting point is 00:26:22 we are we've got purses we've got like we are we're fucking dressed and then there are other times where we literally have sweatpants on and like there is something like fun about dressing up and some a piece of advice that or not a piece of advice something that someone said to me in like a meeting that I had like at it was like a network meeting like something years and years and years ago it's like I always dress up like I always have like a nice outfit on a cute outfit I always have heels on something just I I'm a I dress up I love to dress up and I would without a doubt be well over six feet tall with high heels on and I remember someone had said he was like oh my god you know who does this and I was like does what and they're like Charlize like she
Starting point is 00:27:06 every meeting she's wearing minimum four inch heels like she is always you always see her coming she's always the tallest person here and like I will never not notice when she's in a room like I love that you do that and I was like and now I'm never gonna fucking stop yeah like I don't feel like I can give an I can do well in a meeting without if my feet are flanted flat on the ground I like how I feel. I like how I walk in heels. I like the way that like when I cross my legs, how that feels with the heel just like there. Yeah, I like that you can hear me coming. Yes. Like all of that to me makes me more confident. And that's that's how I feel. And if you don't feel that way about yourself, that's a problem. If you think that the way that I'm dressing makes you feel inferior, that's your problem. That's not my fucking problem.
Starting point is 00:27:53 no and like i don't look down on people who dress casually i that's fine like do what you do but don't judge me there are other times where like i will literally look at my outfit in the mirror and i have on baggy jeans a baggy shirt and like a like a a lime green puffy vest and i go i look so cute but like it's not what i would necessarily wear to a meeting but i'm just like i'm i'm i'm killing it and like maybe i would wear it to a meeting because suddenly i'm like i feel great. Things can elicit the same sort of feeling that heels and like dressing up gives you doesn't matter the outfit. I was in an elevator where I'm wearing heels and like a little skirt and like a sweater and my purse. And I've got my whole look down. I'm in an elevator of an agency, my old
Starting point is 00:28:36 agency. And I was, you know, geared up for my meeting, feeling confident. And someone walked in the elevator who everybody knows who's ridiculously famous sunglasses, hair up in a bun and uh like sweatpants sneakers and a t-shirt and this person looked so fucking cool and i and it wasn't like oh wow i wish i could wear that to a meeting but i'm like we feel the same about each of our outfits and how we feel yeah and we are taking we are we are being treated this this is about me this is about this person and i'm like so cute and then the next time when i was like coming up with an outfit with sweatpants i was like i'm wearing an outfit like that that was really cute so like it's just about what makes you feel good and like once that other people
Starting point is 00:29:19 are projecting yeah when i one time i was uh interviewing for writers for the show i was working on and this woman came in with like a puffer coat even though it was warmer outside we live in los angeles and she had on like baggy sweatpants and a shirt in the interview the coolest person you've ever met like she was so laid back so cool we offered her the job pretty much immediately she didn't take it because she was show running she was show running another she got an offer to show run another show so like i think for me the only thing i care about is that like your your outfit represents your vibe like that like it makes sense like there's like a connection there and like that's why i love when people do like really intricate cool nail sets
Starting point is 00:30:07 because like I feel like especially if they're like a uniform or something I'm like I feel like I get to see your personality and who you are through your nails I do not care what the fuck you are wearing as long as like you are presenting like who you are to the world and in general people who have problems with it with what other people are wearing it's because they are like so deeply uncomfortable in their clothes in their skin and in their own clothing so love it wear those heels let's rock it yeah what's your favorite comfortable heel brand let us know is it steve men love it i need to figure out my brain now so badly because the way i'm looking for shoes to wear when we get when we elope but i go at this point my rain outs has gotten so bad they have
Starting point is 00:30:45 to be closed toed have we set a date no melissa okay i'm just asking i'm just like i love shoes okay and i've been i it has gotten so much worse turns out beta blockers make it worse my feet look oh i thought we already knew that yeah but i we went to nordstrom a couple weeks ago and i tried some on and it was like horrifying like i can't even wear nude shoes because guess what my feet aren't nude you gotta get purple ones yeah i have to get purple and blotchy i need a tie-dye purple shoe i can't go get some custom ones mate here here's my foot necrophilia let's do this no and this whole thing of like oh it's got a sheer panel i don't need sheer I don't need you to cover those baby's arms

Wayfair every style every home. we're back and we're here for but are they wrong that's when megan and i pick someone
Starting point is 00:33:14 in the world who we say fuck you too because they're the worst the wrong the rachel of the week megan what do you got here is what i got um i would like to nominate guy edward bartkus what a name yeah and may he rest in torture uh so there was an explosion outside of a palm springs fertility clinic on saturday morning which killed one person which was like first reported that they killed one person it was like holy fuck holy shit thankfully that person is guy guy is he the person who bombed it he is the one who's now dead okay but it did injure four other people and it sent debris flying for blocks uh all across and i saw this first on my tiktok i saw a video of people being like holy shit what the fuck like what the fuck not even news videos just
Starting point is 00:34:09 people who are there and for anyone who's like on palm springs is so fucking small like it is so small i'm looking at this and i'm like yeah know where this is like it is just it is such a tiny tiny tiny place and uh this is just a crazy thing to happen so he is a 25 year old resident of california with nihilistic views cited by npr and it might may have also had antinatalist leanings what do you think what do you think um and it was targeted uh as domestic terrorism of course and it literally like debris flew like 250 yards and like so far it was insane um it is the largest bombing that we've had in southern california in years it was powerful enough to throw pieces of a vehicle hundreds of feet of the air and several blocks away
Starting point is 00:35:04 and thankfully everybody who was injured the four people who are also injured there have been released from the hospital um only the next day so they got medical treatment and they are okay um but uh it was the amer what he targeted was the american reproductive center's arc fertility Clinic, which has been in function since 2006, which provides in vitro fertilization and other reproductive services. So the clinic also posted a photo on Instagram and they confirmed that the vehicle exploded in its parking lot, but said no staff members were hurt. And thankfully, which I did not know, that a lot of the time in these places, they house all of the reproductive materials as in like eggs, embryos, all of those things, samples. They don't house those there
Starting point is 00:35:50 because they know that they are i was worried about i was panicked for that but like the fact that they already know that they're a target means that in general like i don't know what the exact term is but oh laws are written in blood where it's like bad things have to happen for protocols to be in place so the fact that like this protocol is already in place where they do not store at the facility to me means that like they've already either had threats that like the public doesn't know about not even the specific clinic but like if that's kind of in general how clinics are they go about this of being extra protective of this i'm like oh wow yeah this is very dark and scary um but uh nothing was damaged no eggs no embryos none of the reproductive uh any aspects
Starting point is 00:36:29 of that and their their message i thought was like really beautiful they said our mission has always been to help build families and in times like these we are reminded of just how fragile and precious life is so uh they have ensured already that none of the embryos were lost and he was identified as the prime suspect that he it was his car he was driving the car and they have officially confirmed on that and they combed through his online posts which all about nihilistic ideally ideations and that it was very clearly a targeted attack against the IVF facility and yeah anyone's not familiar like anti-natalist views that's like anti-having children as like a whole um and he posted uh writings and an audio recording about the attack online which he
Starting point is 00:37:18 described himself as a misandrist and a pro-mortalist in reference to the belief that ethical it is ethical to end suffering by ending lives basically i'm anti-life he said in the recording and ivf is kind of like the epitome of pro-life ideology so as of two days ago npr has not independently verified the audio but that's you know how do you verify the audio in that way and he was trying to live stream the bombing oh god at 25 years old but but he wasn't trying to die himself was he i don't i don't well it's a car bombing so okay then i don't really was well no because you can bomb a car and then you can i don't know how smart he was though but like in the car i am not sure i know it was his car and he was seen driving a car earlier
Starting point is 00:38:07 found near the vehicle okay so usually if it's if you're not strapped it's not strapped to your body i think the indicator is you're not necessary like in this case they wouldn't say that was clear that you were trying to die as well but yeah so the american society for reproductive medicine said in a statement that sadly those of us working in reproductive medicine are no strangers to these threats we have seen physicians murdered families attacked and patients being harassed threatened and harmed we must not allow such violence to extend into the realm of fertility care it's just fucking just like fucking crazy just like super super super fucking crazy and um it's incredibly sad to me but also like a relief to know that like embryos and these things
Starting point is 00:38:54 are not stored at this facility and they're not traditionally in general stored at any sort of reproductive clinic that is like advertising that it is a reproductive clinic and to know of like that's such a relief but at the same time like oh damn so this has had to have been threats over all of this stuff that like you have to do all these safety precautions and the fact that even with all these safety precautions i'm so glad that the people who are injured are okay but and that thankfully he was the only life that was lost and to me i'm like okay cool die for your cause you don't there you go you don't think you don't think people should you think more life is bad okay yeah there you go oh wow i also do wonder if there's a little bit of um specifically because of the
Starting point is 00:39:38 area he targeted because i think i said he's from la palm springs is like not that close to la i do also wonder if there's a little bit of homophobia oh yeah that's where my my mind because i'll be real like there's a lot more places in the way yeah and there's a lot bigger fertility clinics and there's a lot of places that have far more patients like i like palm springs i would think there are probably people in palm springs who come to atlanta for fertility treatments like palm springs is where people go to retire not necessarily raise a child no so it does feel specifically targeted to the gay community as well so we're gonna go to a break when we get back we'll get into more

Starting point is 00:41:35 With Wayfair, there's no what if. Just style you love and quality you can trust. Visit Wayfair.ca Wayfair, every style, every home. All right, um, mine is... X.A.I., Mayor Paul Young, the mayor of Memphis, and Mayor Lee Harris, the mayor of Shelby County. Today, I'm talking about something that's happening in Memphis, well, a town outside of Memphis, Tennessee, a situation that should alarm every single one of us. It's a story of power, pollution, and a community fighting for its rights to breathe clean air.
Starting point is 00:42:19 And frankly, it's a story where X.A.I., led by the world's richest man, allegedly, Elon Musk. oh my god i said what the fuck is xai and when you think about it well no it's not twitter it's ai but named x because he likes the letter x oh wow he's really bad at this seo thing also led by the local mayors and they're all on the wrong side of justice in my eyes last summer an abandoned factory in southwest memphis was resurrected not for the community's benefit but for xai's ambition to build the world's largest supercomputer colossum they were told it would bring jobs tax dollars and transform memphis into a digital delta xai proclaim this is just the beginning with plans for a second facility already in the works but the residents of boxtown a
Starting point is 00:43:20 majority Black, economically disadvantaged community just a few miles away. This isn't progress. It's another threat to their health. This community has a long and painful history of enduring industrial pollution. They are surrounded by 17 other polluting facilities, including an oil refinery, a steel plant, and a gas-fired power plant. The cancer risk from the industrial sources in southwest memphis is already 4.1 times higher than the epa's acceptable risk shelby county has an effing air quality for ozone levels from american lung association and the highest rates of children hospitalized for asthma in tennessee now excite ai a company that runs an immensely power hungry operation has installed dozens of gas powered turbines
Starting point is 00:44:12 turbines learned known to churn out toxic cocktail of pollutions these include nitrogen oxides which cause asthma attacks and chest pains that are linked to premature death and the carcinogen formaldehyde aerial images from march showed xai had 35 turbines they generate 420 megawatts equivalent to a medium to large size power plant and produce 2,000 tons of nitrogen oxide pollution every year, which would make XAI one of the biggest pollutants in the country. And what's even more outrageous is that XAI has been operating without the necessary air permits. They appear to be exploiting the loophole for temporary turbines, claiming they don't need a permit for less than a year of operation. Environmental groups like the Southern
Starting point is 00:45:07 Environmental Law Center argue this exemption doesn't apply to installations of this size and polluting capacity. Patrick Anderson, a senior attorney for SELC, puts, our position is without a permit, they should not be operating. In January, months after starting operations, xai finally applied for permits for just 15 turbines and the leaders of all of this first mayor paul young he has wholeheartedly embraced xai's arrival touting the promise of hundreds of high-paying jobs around 30 million tax and tax revenues in the first year he calls it a game-changing an opportunity to take our economy to the next level but transform for who not for sarah glad gladney a resident who lives three miles from the facility and suffers from
Starting point is 00:46:01 a lung condition she states our health was never considered the safety of our community was never considered and when asked what she'd say to elon musk she'd say what was the rest did you even know that this community was already fighting and has all the polluters surrounding us state representative justin pearson who i don't know if y'all remember he was one of the ones that was like impeached for his position and then they put him back he was voted back in he lives three miles from the facility and was blindsided by the project he pointed out that memphis's power grid is already unstable leading to rolling blackouts in recent winters xai is receiving 150 megawatts from the local facility enough to power around 100 000 homes and is awaiting approval for another
Starting point is 00:46:54 150 megawatts he asked it's an actual gas plant in the middle of a neighborhood and you don't need any permitting something has failed drastically and significantly with our system of checks and balances and before when i said when he was impeached he was on the right side of history i just want to make that clear this is someone that we like and then the uh shelby county mayor which i don't understand how the county has a mayor and then the town has a mayor but whatever was questioned simply stated that he has no reason to have any concerns so the citizens are sick they've been showing up to town hall meetings going in and saying like why are y'all doing this to us i also want to point out both these mayors are black so not necessarily a race thing here
Starting point is 00:47:42 and the people the city council has introduced an ordinance for environmental reform including millions of dollars of penalties for non-compliant companies and sunset dates for environmental permits while this is a step it's a testament to the community's relentless advocacy not the proactive leadership of xai or the mayors and as alexis humphries a 27 year old boxtown resident powerfully asked at a public hearing while holding up an inhaler how come i can't breathe at home and y'all get to breathe at home easter knox from boxtown also said that she has and she has uh had on a mask because she has copd it's just sort of part you know when people got money so this is some i've lived in memphis when i was very young and then again in a suburb of memphis um i was
Starting point is 00:48:41 also young then too but like this hits home like memphis is only five hours from a five-hour drive from my house like it's sickening i know people from memphis and the fact that they are doing this for what like you could have put this in the middle of nowhere yeah it does not have to be there no and the fact that these communities like it's like again again like you've already done it you're doing it again you've already like there is no hey let's like spread the risk amongst it's like no this it becomes targeted yeah it becomes it becomes very targeted and obviously very different but my dad grew up in like pittsburgh like and he worked in the steel mills and like as a child as as a fucking kid and like you breathe all of that in and then in order to get
Starting point is 00:49:33 out of it you have to put yourself even farther and deeper in it to like make you have to like participate in the system that is like poisoning the people around you in order to get out of that place like they're like like that person said like people with money like it's just like there's to go up against that is so fucked because they tell you and they offer a promise of oh this is going to create all these jobs yeah you're going to work in worse conditions than you already are by living there and breathing you're it's just it's just so fucked and also i think like it's so fucking rich to call ai growing of jobs because i'm like so you think we're also stupid yeah it's fucked i looked this up to follow um just to like see some of the the people to put
Starting point is 00:50:20 a face to some of these names and i do want to give a shout out to on mbc news the photographer who the photojournalist his name is noah stewart and i found him on instagram it's at shot on the block holy fucking shit so he says he's based in west tennessee and available for travel his photos are stunning like beautiful and it looks like he does like lots of other just like hired photo shoots kind of stuff so we know I know we've got people who are in all parts like he takes I'm just like stunning stunning photos like just beautiful photos and like just conveys this like in a way that this looks like a movie in a way that like not like oh this is stunning like this is a picture-perfect movie but like he conveys emotion through these photographs and I also think there's
Starting point is 00:51:08 like a dying art of photojournalism when people are getting all their news from tiktok and getting their all that kind of stuff that like this adds such a it just it's it's incredibly grounding for like a story that feels like this is so fucked this is so fucked you're able to put like faces in it to a story and all of that right so yeah the memphis community against pollution president this photo of him have you seen this one i scrolled through yeah stunning just just wow so if i was in west tennessee i would hire this man to take my elopement photos it doesn't seem like that's what he does but by god this is some of the best yeah there's emotion in those pictures yeah just insane gorgeousness and like
Starting point is 00:51:52 that's a massive skill that comes out of it and in general when you fuck people over you fuck communities over those people get creative those people turn to art and then those people make art and those people make art that like gusts you from the inside out and tells a story and gets other people to pay attention to that story yeah so yeah fucked fucked fucked i recently which is embarrassing oh you know me we try i think i've tried to talk to you about this before and i always pick the wrong name aaron brockovich i almost said andy mcdowell again it's not really same thing to me but like learning about i embarrassingly learned about that on tiktok and then learned that it was like a real true story and it's just she's still fighting yeah
Starting point is 00:52:40 and like i think people think of things like little miss flint of being like oh michigan's good now no she's still taking that picture every year i believe she's in high school now like this stuff like happens all the time and it's just a matter of who hears about it and who doesn't but people it's always happening and people are always being affected by it and I think it's really important for us to turn to these like domestic issues that are going on and happening because these are people that we can vote into power or vote out of power all right well that's the end of our episode we hope you all enjoyed and I have one last thing I know you're not going to understand this Melissa but I just need to know that Jojo Siwa is dating someone
Starting point is 00:53:26 already know melissa i i was like why is this on my feet it's as a love island fan and as a jojo siwa fan they actually don't exist in the same multiverse to me it has been really check on your local love island fan check on your local jojo siwa fan this shit is crazy gotta say you're the only jojo siwa fan i know and unfortunately i do think i am the only jojo siwa fan most people know because anytime she does anything i'm constantly getting sent things and i go probably because i'm the only one i just saw the photo of them kissing in a pool floaty which by the way i saw that too that seems like it's actually quite hard to to do like you'd fall it's like making out in a hammock you really gotta time it well oh i'm very long there's not a lot of room for
Starting point is 00:54:14 someone else once i'm in the hammock we were sitting oh you're sitting not laying yeah we weren't lame oh no we we ended up laying down okay a natural progression of movement is crazy in a hammock like you have to plan that out one person is getting absolutely hoisted out of there flipped and flopped good times also i accidentally got flashbacks okay pervy keep it yourself i also accidentally yesterday i looked at the video that was like prominent people you didn't know were mormons and i got paul walker and paul wall mixed up and i said there's no way paul wall is a mormon i don't even think paul wall knows what mormons are like there's no way i'm paul wall and i was like and
Starting point is 00:55:00 mods literally put on and now he every time he's been post champ he keeps putting on paul wall and he goes oh love that mormon and i'm like i'm sorry i'm sorry that i mixed it up for a second but yeah paul walker mormon used to be obviously for more than one reason yes he's no longer with us he dated a 16 year old i'm sorry i don't have a lot of tact for that i don't either and you know what don't tell your dad he loves that sam poof song it's been a long time is that about him melissa that is the song shut the fuck up that song was written because when paul walker died in fast and furious that's the song that plays oh yeah i knew that but my dad relates it to his own friend dying well that was like a
Starting point is 00:55:44 brother to him but i think the music video is about like loss too like i i don't it very yeah i'm not a a fam fan like you are which is crazy considering you live in los angeles the home of the fam like crazy you know have you so you've never seen hobson shaw that is a buy your fucking movie no it's essentially a spin-off and boy oh boy i know what it is they got in a fight so he had to make his own movie and it so and that much i know enough of that i think i've seen the first episode the first episode the first movie and that's probably it no i mean of the fast and furious franchise i think they can make them forever i know they've gone into the space they jumped the car it went like a little bit it was like a space for like
Starting point is 00:56:40 like a second kind of like just a tip oh like a 3d movie where they jumped the car went like into space for a second i'm sorry like through the shot like like katie perry don't you watch all yes that's what i just said by the way there's there's so many so like do you mean like a singular shot i think it was i think it was um ludacris and tyrese yeah and i think they jump their car into space for a second if not they need to add this into the next movie this is Fast and the Furious 9
Starting point is 00:57:15 this is the one that I haven't seen yet well sorry I spoiled it it's okay Moss watched it without me and I was like are you fucking kidding me I was so mad it came out in 2021 and of all the movies it wasn't on streaming forever it was driving us crazy well
Starting point is 00:57:30 maybe I did see it if it was just a second I could have missed it too just like that f9's car and space stunt got one thing very right astronaut reveals i'm addicted to that headline speaking of and just like that meg the stallion's gonna be in an episode whoa i and and just like that confirm if i'm not wrong that's the sex of the city reboot yes it is so who is she a samantha i don't know what she who she is i know that fans of a random fucking like i know that kristin davis yeah she saw her at an event and asked to be in an episode well i was gonna say i had previously said that she would be a dream person to have on the show
Starting point is 00:58:19 wait did meg ask her to be in an episode she said i want meg yes and then she had said like in an interview that she wants meg the stallion to be on the show and then she saw meg at a at an event and said can you be on the show oh my god because to me meg is a samantha i could also see her being a charlotte but like i think that she might be playing herself i don't know it might be like how on uh she hulk yeah she looks so good in that i mean she when does she bring bring she hulk back they have the dare the daredevil ones out now it looks i know scary yeah i kind of want to see it but it's so dark i know turn the lights on i don't know if it's still i mean he's blind so okay don't make it like that that's how this is out he's blind so
Starting point is 00:59:20 but in general you know we're in a gaffing shortage these people will not like these goddamn shows i think that's part of the mood of the show because he's blind i say this with love they also did it in that one with uh they also did it in winter soldier and that's because i think their stunt coordinator was not available that day and they said but the other okay so did you watch jessica jones and okay so they're all lit specifically for them and then they have a show when they all come together yes and when they are in their individual things it's lit how it's supposed how it's lit on their own show turns out all the gaffers are on those tv shows and that's why no one else can light a show they say so sorry i'm actually busy on jessica jones specifically
Starting point is 01:00:04 think that it is dark because he is blind okay so this is a choice i wasn't making yes i wasn't making a joke this is the mood this is when they made the mood board they said this is what we're going for like all the powerpuff girls have a color all of the people have a have a have a lighting yeah and a color too because it was like graded for that color when they were all the gaffers went because they were missing on set for captain winter soldier no it's not winter soldier it's him the new the new one or the tv show it's the new one um captain soldier all the other names are coming in my head but not this one anyways and the same thing with that show with that boy um night agent there's sometimes where
Starting point is 01:00:54 like they'll do an action sequence no they'll do an action sequence entirely in the dark and i go i can't point of the choreographer being hired for this yeah i'm like what's by the way it doesn't look impressive at all because it's dark and like these aren't even that i can't by the way you're these are stunt people because i can't see them so i assume that this is the stunt and they could do a lot better than this why are you making why is it always just empty cardboard boxes in a dark alleyway it's not doing anything i literally just googled cap i can't i can't cut me off the end captain america brave new world all right thank you for joining us we'll see you tomorrow for see you next tuesday wednesday use that day to catch up thursday we've got don't blame me
Starting point is 01:01:42 friday prepare your orifices and then the weekend is there and we'll be back here for another episode of but am i wrong goodbye well oh sorry whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa as soon as i put my hand down i brought it back up too hot burns too hot fucked up we will circle back goodbye This is a Sister Sign production hosted by me, Megan Rinks.
