You're richer than you think. hi welcome hello hello and welcome to another episode of but am i wrong question mark huh it's a wonderful podcast starring us megan and melissa where um we talk shit in in different vehicles and verticals we talk shit horizontally and vertically so uh we have different segments
Starting point is 00:01:35 on the show we will explain each one of them before we get into it but what you need to know is that we want you to participate not just by sending us nominations of things you want to talk about or writing in with your own things that you would like our input on but we also want you to vote on who you think was wrong in each part of this episode so we have that over on our instagram stories we post votes and they're also going to highlight there and vote on who you think was wrong and then you can reply to the stories use those thumbs or the voice to text feature if you're like me just if you spell my name wrong like i did that one time your own name my own name you know just tell it was voice to text i understand i don't use voice to text but i do
Starting point is 00:02:12 have things read to me oh yeah i don't know that i could do the read i think i wouldn't be able to pay attention if that works better for me than actual reading so oh wow i think kyle's like that too for me I'm good with like I can do I can listen to what I'm reading reading but I then I want to follow along too yeah I need both I'm someone who rewinds a podcast or a video that I'm watching like a hundred times yeah when I say like I'm listening I have to read along too that's why audiobooks is great for being an audiobook director is great for me because I get both of them yeah you're like I'm really immersed in this story because I'm following along to make sure you're getting all the words and all the lines and I'm listening do you say it
Starting point is 00:02:48 Yeah, I am. I do have my Monopoly Go going right now because it's where the real estate's on sale if you need to buy some things too. Okay. And if anyone remembers when we were addicted to Monopoly Go and then Melissa got off it,
Starting point is 00:03:06 Melissa is back on. I sort of like took a back seat and now I'm just like, I'm not rolling that much. But I hop back in every once in a while. Yeah, I'm rolling a lot. so first up our first segment but am i wrong and this is where we pitch either a hot take something that has happened in our lives or a rant to the other as well as
Starting point is 00:03:30 the audience and we want to know if we're in the wrong about no mine is a rant okay because this is something that has plagued me okay what the fuck go ahead no i'm just taking your time i'm getting weight i'm gonna get way too heated on something that is like truly not that deep but really what this is to me is like i've never seen inception but i feel like that's what it's like this is the most confusing thing to me why the fuck do we make nail polish remover without acetone because it cannot do anything i didn't know it existed and i accidentally must have bought nail polish remover without acetone i am soaking off my on my toe 25 minutes not an ounce is coming off they're not even the
Starting point is 00:04:15 The pad's, like, slightly tinging a little bit pink. It's a dark red color. Just a little. Nothing is coming off whatsoever. And I'm like, well, this is crazy. First of all, why the fuck does, why do you even make this? It doesn't do anything. And that's the only thing it's supposed to do is take your nail polish off.
Starting point is 00:04:29 And it can't do that thing. And then, tell me why I can't find fucking 100% acetone or even 90% nail polish remover with acetone anywhere. Where did you go? CVS? I I think we looked at CVS and Walgreens and then Mott's was also at Sprouts and Ralph's and he looked at not Sprouts Ralph's and he looked there too and couldn't find turns out apparently there's an acetone shortage oh do you need some yeah okay I have two bottles and but like they're not full they're just two half bottles but I'll just you can just take one of them with you bring it back
Starting point is 00:05:04 But I think it's a shortage. You got to get it back. Like, why do we create products with a singular goal in mind, knowing scientifically knowing that the thing that takes off the nail polish is the goddamn fucking acetone. Let's remove that and then sell this as something that that's like selling me water. And it's just there's no water in here. It's just air or it's like oil. And I go, that doesn't it's not the same thing. So is this like when you go to those nail salons well i've never gone because i think it's a scam where they're saying they're green salons and they use all natural products and i'm like that nail polish is going to be off my finger by the time i walk out of the salon but and what are you using to take the polish up they're using
Starting point is 00:05:45 acetone they're just saying acetone is a natural thing because it's a chemical and it is a natural thing it is but like i think it should be illegal to sell nail polish remover knowing that it quite literally cannot take off your nail polish and i looked it up and i was like how do you because i was like am I using this wrong do I need to like soak my fingers in water for like is there like a a hack and it was like oh you know just soak the the pad in in the non-acetone nail polish remover and hold it onto your finger for about 30 seconds and the nail polish should wipe off no did you have a top coat on no the top coat is not on because I didn't know like you know like if you have gel and you got to break the maybe file it down a little bit and then do it no okay
Starting point is 00:06:27 nothing and it's like how can we legally sell a product advertised as a purpose knowing that like you've removed the only ingredient that actually does that and you my fingers look like my toes look like the end just a little bit more moisturized because i'm pretty sure it's just oil and water it's salad dressing and why is it pink it does nothing it makes me so irate and then the fact that moths was like i asked him to pick up a semester on the way home because i didn't think it'd be a big fucking deal at all and he's like I can't find it anywhere and I started looking online and like CVS was like in-store only you could not order online in-store only only one brand not available at any location in like a 50 mile radius did the same thing at
Starting point is 00:07:13 Walgreens and I'm like what the fuck and the bottle's like $12 $13 I would have gone in because I just went to CVS right before you came over here and I would have looked to see have you tried it there's a sally's that's where i think i'm gonna have to go there's one right on the corn i even looked on reddit and people were like who would work in the professional beauty space being like is anyone having a really fucking hard time finding acetone then i saw people suggesting which i will not be doing and i don't think anyone else should be doing this they go oh i i just go to uh the hardware store and get paint thinner so this is me versus acetone yeah yeah i think you're gonna have to go to a beauty supply store me fucking too but there's like three of them on
Starting point is 00:07:54 your way to the yeah maybe i'll do that on my home that's my ramp all right mine's way more serious are you trying to downplay the i'm just letting you know i i need to give a content warning for mine you didn't yeah um sexual assault and rape yeah that's mine was just no problem yeah yeah am yeah so i don't know if y'all have been following this situation with shannon sharp i will be no longer talking about him after this because i don't i didn't like him before i've talked about him before in passing on this show don't like him never have liked him never don't understand what the appeal was i don't like that people were calling him unc like i hated all of it please stop and i'm sure people will stop after this except for weirdo men no then they're gonna
Starting point is 00:08:50 love him even more exactly because i saw people defending this in comments and they were all dumb men or dumb men that don't have profiles and it's just user x one one two five nine eight seven six three two one okay so um there's a lot developing it's continuously developing right before we started recording he announced that he was uh stepping down from espn and i was like you got fired but whatever because he's spending time with his family but if he was spending time with his family to begin with he would have never been in this situation so the news broke that there is a civil lawsuit for 50 million dollars alleging rape which already is like pretty jarring and shannon sharp said that it was a shakedown and my thing is
Starting point is 00:09:42 i don't care if you call i mean i do care if you call sexual assault a shakedown and you claim but then you go and claim that this was consensual sex but if you are having sex with someone that's young enough to be your daughter it's still assault no matter if it's consensual or not that's my hot take oh yeah i agree wholeheartedly so this woman and i use that loosely because legally she is a woman but when this happened in 2023 she was 19 years old so a child when she first met him and he is 50s he was 56 years old they were at the gym in la and then they had a a rocky consensual relationship of nearly two years
Starting point is 00:10:32 in which he frequently was aggressive and assaulted her. Then she got a lawyer Tony Busby and they released audio tape and in this clip
Starting point is 00:10:47 it's very disturbing. I didn't listen to it but I did read some of the transcription and in it she is saying that she does not want to be choked and he says talking about choking her in public even referencing uh their race even saying what if like this big black man was choking this little white woman and then like even when there was like consensual text messaging that's very clearly consensual. Again, I don't think it's consensual. There's a lot of race talking within
Starting point is 00:11:27 this that is absolutely disgusting. And any person that has any type of self-respect would have shut this down to like a long time ago. Like this is absolutely disgusting. Now Shannon Sharp and his team are trying to provide context and they're saying that this is just common and how they talk to each other and that if you listen to longer clips then you would see that it was all in consensual sexual context but just fucking weird it's all weird why why i don't understand why anybody would want to be in this situation at all and the lawyer saying that sharp made a mistake by trying to push back and that releasing the audio reveals the nature of their interactions leading up to the alleged assault.
Starting point is 00:12:20 And when I first was doing research for this, which was last night, he was still part of First Taken, as I mentioned. Just a few minutes ago, he has stepped down from his job at ESPN. I also hope his podcast gets shut down as well as he just won a Webby Award. Take it away.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Like two days ago, he won it. Take it away. Yeah. And then Stephen A. Smith addressed this because they work together and he's actually the person that at espn he's actually the person that recommended him for the job this is the same one on this on that man right yeah that's on general hospital too by the way clip of him on general hospital
Starting point is 00:12:57 ends up my for you page i hated every moment of it he's so bad no i was like where is he i was like i i couldn't believe that it was scripted because i was like this man it's like he was walking for a nighttime talk like a night like a talk show he's trying to be like so cool too because he's like brick and he's supposed to be like this lady's man and they made him, they created the character for him because he said he wanted to be on General Hospital.
Starting point is 00:13:22 So he just pops up every like month for a couple of days. That man needs, the way I need him to stand up straight expeditiously, roll your shoulders back. Like he walks in neck hump first. Yeah. So Stephen A. Smith said
Starting point is 00:13:36 that they were taking matters seriously and looking into it. But he at that time seemed uncertain about if sharp would be stepping down but he has now and so sharp has offered a 10 million dollar settlement which the woman rejected which is why why we're here now talking about this and why it's been made public and i just think that we also i have kind of two hot takes in this i think we also should just be looking at what age of consent is because i want to take us back to 1937 oh if you insist yeah a 22 year old man married a nine-year-old girl and in response to this
Starting point is 00:14:23 marriage and i just want to say they also stayed married until he died in 1997 so in response to this marriage the state of tennessee where they were they set the minimum age of marriage to 16 and then other jurisdictions like minnesota and rhode island and washington dc also introduced similar laws and ironically when that nasty man that was 22 when his 17 year old daughter eloped in 1960 with a 20 year old man he was strongly opposed to it someone that is close to her age and also her mom was opposed to it too which of course she was because she was a child that was taken away from her family and forced to marry this man so my second but am i wrong is that since people are living longer and then they reconsidered and changed laws i think it's time
Starting point is 00:15:19 to revisit laws for consent now too and there are too many nasty people out here nasty men i before we recorded i was i went to the bank and this old man when i say old like older than my dad held the door open for me and he was like hey miss drop top talking about my convertible because i had just got out of it you look nice your hair you look like a baby doll 9-1-1 disturbing well the police were already outside so you said you missed your motherfuckers you missed you missed yeah and then he just kept like holding the door and leering at me and i was like please stop dead drop dead quicker quicker yes so um let's revisit these laws we need to go like if you are from the ages of 15 and 18 you shouldn't be dating anymore anybody no more than two years
Starting point is 00:16:17 older or younger than you and then 19 to 23 no more than three years and then after your frontal lobe has developed you can make more decisions but i'd still say 10 years and then like by the time you're like 35 make whatever decision you want yeah but we need to revisit these laws because just because you are legally 18 does not make you yes by law an adult but ethically no can't rent a fucking car he has you can't drink you can't even go out on a date with this girl no chucky cheese you pervert right i saw jamila did a tiktok being like raise the age of consent to 21 you don't even have to enforce it but let's see who gets mad yeah like that's and then lock them up yeah oh pervert pervert pervert pervert throw them all away it's just like to have this hang up
Starting point is 00:17:08 on being like well they were legal i'm like no and it's just so crazy that there's not an there's not an epidemic of women in their 40s and 50s marrying from history like in like because it literally used to be like you would marry off child brides weren't marrying off child grooms nope nope nope like this it we have just done we've just like made it like slightly less bad slightly less bad slightly less bad but like it's still bad and there's still a reason why it's targeting women yep so lock them all up and let's revisit these laws because it's nasty there's a lot of nasty men out here it's just it's just so fucking gross all right that's mine you're not wrong all right we're gonna take a break

Starting point is 00:20:41 i think mish is an older white woman yes but the ninja turtle powerpuff girl oh my god if you're if you're a black woman doing crossfit yeah we need to know we need to know and we need to help you do you have a gofundme like event she left she left but like we would have focused on that a lot more but we have to get you out of there we have to get you out of there and we gotta get you out of ketosis yeah fight or flight constantly okay first one hey megan and melissa i am a longtime listener but this is my first time writing in i'm writing in because i got a text from my wife 27 she her that was meant for her work friend 26 she her the message says are we going out for my birthday i need to know before i tell this lady about it end quote now i remained
Starting point is 00:21:27 column and just responded, nice to know you refer to me as this lady. Oh, you are the lady in question. Okay. And I told her to give me space because honestly, I did not know how to react in the moment. Later when she got home, we talked about it and she explained that she meant nothing by it and that she cannot call me her wife at work for safety reasons. For context, she works at a high security prison. Okay. That's fair. Yeah. I told her that that doesn't matter to me. This message was sent out of work and it was disrespectful. She's apologized multiple times, but i just don't know how to accept her apology am i wrong for being upset from our context we've been together for eight years and been married for five i'm a sagittarius november and she's
Starting point is 00:22:03 a taurus may thank you love the podcast oh why couldn't she call you my friend i just think this lady is just the lady it's just so dismissive i think the to me my issue is this lady like this lady seems like you're just some rando that she hates well i i'd be fine if she called you my lady my lady my friend my leash my my roommate my roommate see to me we're getting a little more we're getting a little we're taking some farther steps away but like or even of like calling her like the lady like i've got it i gotta let the lady know yeah my old lady i gotta let the girl know i don't i think the problem is you can't say my or so the this this is just this is like offensive yeah this is there's no love with that i'm not feeling any type of connection
Starting point is 00:22:57 any type of any like just friend would have been better than this lady or what about you just calling you by your name and not relating your relationship yeah who's this work friend yeah i don't think you're wrong there's just other things that could have been said and if they're close enough to be a work friend they don't know that y'all are like close enough to be a work friend and you're going out for a birthday they don't know you're married like i can't like it could they don't know that like you could have just like again use the name and it could have been fine wait that's a great yeah it does this work friend i assume the work friend knows that you are you're married to your wife right and if not then why are you friends yeah
Starting point is 00:23:48 and then you're not friends and why are you doing scene for your birthday and also why are you even in a comp like being brought up in a topic of conversation at all are we going out for my my birthday so this other person is planning your birthday because you're asking this because you're are we going out for my birthday i need to tell this lady about it so like this other person is planning your birthday and are you are you writer are you invited like or is it like i need to i I need to tell, I need to tell the old ball and chain that I'm going to be busy. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:22 I would read more into this message. Yeah. And I would actually read all of their text messages. Yeah. And yeah, I have no question. And even if it's like not that, some people will also just hide the fact that they're getting attention from somewhere, even if they're not acting on it like physically or romantically.
Starting point is 00:24:41 but even if it's not like the person is not intending for it to be like romantic or whatever people who are on the receiving end of it they feel like if they hide it there is something to hide and like they can read more into it so like to me this is not necessarily an issue this could be an issue with her work friend but this to me is an issue that with her referring to you son yeah yeah all right next one yeah i'd be so annoyed i do think in general when you start calling people my lady my liege my lord i'm good i don't want to be called that and you don't want to know why there's no royal system in space no it was because there was this weird man when i was in college there's always a weird that dressed up in very old timey clothes
Starting point is 00:25:34 oh he probably went to my high school and he was i mean if he did he was at least 20 years older than you and he made me weird cds i've never i never talked to this man okay but it would be like artists that were doing duets that were like a black woman and a white man type duet things trying to get into your psyche yeah he was trying to manifest uh-huh and he would say like for m'lady on the cds that he had burned that is fair that you don't like that so i do not ever want to be referred to as that that's fair so jessica prefer to it as me dear melissa and m'lady oh that's men are fucking weird
Starting point is 00:26:25 they're weird they're so fucking weird and even that man was like 15 years older than me I I do think I think if you're gonna be
Starting point is 00:26:34 a super senior which I'm okay with I'm okay even if you're not a super senior you just started school later I'm very okay with that
Starting point is 00:26:42 um you cannot socialize with the 18 year olds granted I will say the only super senior I knew who was a I think he was a seventh year senior
Starting point is 00:26:51 my freshman year or an eighth year senior my freshman year. By the way, by the time that I left, he was still there. He was incredibly kind and like kept an eye out.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Like he was very much big brother is watching. Like he did not, he was just on top of it. Like he was just, we got, we got, I think,
Starting point is 00:27:15 yeah, we got like roofied at this part. He was like freaking the fuck out. He was making sure everyone got home safe and I was like that is so lovely but like that's how I was living on campus no okay okay but it defaulted to like it never even crossed my mind I was like of course he's older of course he's going to be like the dad of the group and I was like thank god he actually was but like as an 18 year old you think the oldest person there is the most responsible
Starting point is 00:27:37 and like they take advantage of that and like think like oh this person's gonna feel safe thankfully like he was that but I'm like good god I didn't realize until I was older that I was like Oh, he's a massive anomaly in all of that. Anyways. All right. Next one. I'm Olivia. So am I.
Starting point is 00:28:02 I got my nose done and I named her Olivia. 30 years old in LA. So are you. Oh my God. Did you write it? My nose. Typing out. And I'm wrestling with this whole lending money situation.
Starting point is 00:28:17 I thought it was going to be, I'm wrestling. And I said, I don't wrestle. Sorry. Speaking of, the person that is hooking up with a wrestler, it just went out today. I've been wondering. I was like, what episode was that in? Today. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Okay. Because I want to hear from them. Me too. Desperately. Expeditiously. I thought they were ignoring us. But if they just came out, okay. Also, Bad Bunny has wrestled numerous times.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Like, he goes to the WWE. Ooh, I love that. As himself and does guest performances. so i stumbled across it on tiktok and then i got onto moises because they like wrestling and love bad bunny and i was like why have you never sent this to me yeah that's actually remember when moises told me about maluma and i looked up and i and he's like something about something maluma said or was it just oh someone looked like maluma and i was like i don't know how how what does maluma look like yeah and they sent look up and i was like i take back any advice i gave you that
Starting point is 00:29:12 told you to like be chill or be sane if someone you're into or you're in the vicinity of anybody who looks like maluma you got to get on it yeah i do like their current partner though me too all right so olivia is wrestling with this whole lending money situation and wondering if they're being unreasonable i've helped my parents out before which always felt right because of everything they've done for me i also have a friend who owes me eight hundred dollars they know they do but haven't been able to pay it back yet. My 35-year-old cousin moved here without a steady job and is asking for
Starting point is 00:29:46 $750 for rent. I actually have the money, but with the $800 still outstanding, I'm feeling really conflicted and wondering if I'd be wrong to say no, especially since their income right now is just from odd jobs. So am I being a bad person if I don't lend her
Starting point is 00:30:02 money? You actually don't have any money. Before I get to that part, They moved here without a steady job. $750 is not enough for rent. Well, it depends if they have, like, a few roommates. To me, $750 is not rent.
Starting point is 00:30:25 That is, like, you found a sublet for a month. Like, that's not, like, a steady thing. And that might be the case. My question is, since they moved here without a steady job, was an emergency situation where they needed to get away from someone? Yeah. and maybe they have like part of their rent let's say they have a thousand dollars and need like 750 to finish it off so like if it's an emerging emergency situation where they needed to like get
Starting point is 00:30:50 out of the situation they were in then you know if you have the money and you're not going to miss the money and you're able to lend it to them but if they just on a whim moved here without a plan then they can go back to where they were before yeah so i don't think you would be wrong to say no and also you can maybe this friend that owes you eight hundred dollars if they aren't already on a payment plan put them on a payment plan so then they're maybe giving you like a hundred dollars a week or something if they can afford that instead of like because some people like get overwhelmed and like i have to pay them back this lump sum yeah and then their car gets something they've got they just don't have 800 at one time yes yeah and shit comes up so that's
Starting point is 00:31:37 yeah i think that's a good and same with you if your cousin is in a situation where you know they can't immediately give you the 750 but they'll have it eventually and they can give you a little bit at a time again if you're not gonna if it's not gonna hurt your own pocket like you have the money to give then if you can be a bank be a bank because that's more reliable than an actual bank yeah i also think that like if this is something where you're like okay maybe it's not an emergency but like they did it wasn't like a dangerous situation but like they really did need to get out and like you know maybe i encourage them to like they should definitely move to la and like they're in an industry where like in between jobs or whatever you can also be like i can't give you
Starting point is 00:32:22 750 i can give you 300 bucks like you don't have to especially when people are asking to like borrow money knowing that we we've always said we're in the camp of like you if you are loaning out money it needs to be money that you don't need back yeah everyone should pay you back but like you should never put yourself in a position where it's like well now i can't make rent i can't make ends meet i can't do x y and z because i've loaned you out this money like you can't count on getting it back you should get it back everyone should always pay you back but you can't count on that you should it should be able to be like okay well it is what it is but when people are asking you for money it it's not just like a jump how high you are the one with this the pocket string
Starting point is 00:33:06 you're the pocket purse strings you're the one with the pockets you get to say hey I can't give you this but I can give you this and it's like whether that's like a matter of like well technically sure I could I could afford $750 but like that doesn't mean you have to or doesn't mean that you want to especially if you're like this person this they definitely have a habit of this or whatever and like if you're like I don't think I'm get paid back and I'd rather like not get paid back 300 bucks than like 750 you get to have that like aspect there and I also think like if it's not that it was like a dangerous situation but like you know like shit just gets hard it can just be the industry that they're in was hard or like they just had a bad roommate situation like
Starting point is 00:33:44 whatever it is and you don't want you want to help them out but like you worry that like you don't want to give them you don't want to make a habit of that i think like if someone had said like you said if it's like this is just a portion of the rent they had saved up this amount of rent or like whatever they had done on the other side of it having people be like need to be resourceful in a sense and i also think in general i do feel like it is my obligation to someone who lives in LA and has grown up in California my whole life that like when people move to LA that I'm friends with who I don't who have never like lived here before that like I have found when I make it really easy for them they don't fucking succeed here they like because you need
Starting point is 00:34:27 to be scrappy you need to have that kind of a thing and it's like oh and I thought if I really helped you I thought if like you know I let you like stay with me and like do all this stuff that like I it really like set you off from like a really great place and like I would have loved help doing that all of that kind of stuff and turns out like there is no motivation when you're kind of being get like you've been given an opportunity a version of this city that's like not really how it is yeah so i think like it's great to help people out when you can't afford to help people out but if you want to maintain like long-lasting relationships you need to feel like you have a bit of agency and control in like what you're comfortable giving and that it's
Starting point is 00:35:03 being used a court like yeah because i also think when you give someone money sometimes they might don't use the money for the thing that they say they're using money for and then like you also can't really i also don't think you can be annoyed but you can't really be mad because like yeah i'm money yeah i if you need the money and i'm able to give the money then i'll give the money i don't care what it's for yeah and i i agree with that i just i think that there's if you start to build resentment in this way I think you owe it to yourself and to them to like set a firm boundary because a lot of the time people will ask to borrow money not think that like that's a like a really like that that's going to ruin your friendship and like if they knew that like this
Starting point is 00:35:47 is actually like a really hard line or boundary they'd rather you say no then give the money and then have resentment built yeah but you're not a bad person if you don't lend her the money no but i will always say lend the money before you let someone move in yeah like if if it's like well i could just let her crash on my couch no lend the money no because once people crash it's really hard to get them out yeah and it's easier once you've lent loaned money one time the next month big sorry i can't yeah i loaned you it's a little bit more of a one and done versus trying to get someone to move out all right we're gonna take another break and we get back we'll get into but are they wrong?

You're richer than you think. tomato and if i was on tiktok and i commented tomato they would delete that and cause that for bullying and harassment but not on this podcast this podcast we can openly bully people
Starting point is 00:38:01 bully bully and i would like to bully mark measures he is a talent agent of it's defunct talent agency at this point so he's referred to as a talent agency chief and he was arraigned after stealing $1.8 million from over 160 actors. Oh. I want you guys to understand that, like, that's a lot of work. That's a lot of actors.
Starting point is 00:38:28 That's a lot of... Because, like, $1.8 million is a lot of money for actors to have made when they are not household names in that way. Mm-hmm. He is the owner and president of former talent agency KMR, and, of course, he pleaded not guilty,
Starting point is 00:38:44 Which we'll get into the uniqueness of that. Because I go, are you aware of the definition of what saying not guilty means? He was arraigned in Manhattan criminal court on Tuesday. He is alleged to have stolen $1.8 million from over 160 actors based in New York and about $26,000 from six employees. And this only happened between June of 2021 and March of 2024. So we're doing this in the height of production being shut down for the pandemic, as well is through the strike so when people are already having to get side jobs you are stealing the money
Starting point is 00:39:20 that they have made and when most of these actors also lost their health insurance yeah very cool very cool very cool he was as part of a 40 count indictment which included one count of scheme to defraud to the first degree three counts of grand larceny in the second degree 28 counts of grand larceny in the third degree five counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree and three counts of petite larceny which oh baby larceny yeah but it's like petite without an e on the end like petite and it really feels french he pled not guilty and he represented clients including elizabeth perkins marin dungy on voice work and talent agent for clients including the late mart wink martindale and meredith monroe those are not people i personally don't know who
Starting point is 00:40:01 elizabeth perkins is probably if i looked up a picture she was in a lot of 80s films and then did you watch weeds no okay well she was the neighbor in weeds oh yeah no i've seen her in stuff she's in a lot also i think it's crazy they're calling her just she's not just a voice actor no but maybe maybe he's her voice act he was her voice acting manager her agent yeah yeah he represented them for voice yeah in court uh the prosecutor said that he claimed that he raided the escrow account where the agency kept all of their clients earnings and he allegedly used that money uh to pay for personal as well as operating expenses for the agency as well as paying off creditors for season spa treatments car payments and at least 55 000 for los angeles crypto arena
Starting point is 00:40:53 seats which means he probably paid for the flight to come here too the way i need to know if he paid for season tickets or are we getting one-offs? Like, are you going to sports games or are you going to one-off events at the arena? So there's more than 160 alleged, or there are 160 alleged victims in New York. The prosecutors stressed that there were more than 300 alleged victims nationwide.
Starting point is 00:41:21 So he went even farther than that. And it started taking place in 2021. Some of these clients have not even paid at all over the course of years and he's also been alleged to have stolen money set aside for the employee retirement accounts so in the indictment in april the da's office said that when clients were asking him about the payments he said uh that he made excuses blaming the bank or slow mail and promised to send out checks that either bounced or were flat out just never fucking sent and he was in the courtroom cuffs everything which by the way i i i love to see i love to see a man in
Starting point is 00:41:58 handcuffs like that's where they should start earn your way out and so he had to turn over his passport and this one really killed me uh the judge demanded that not only measures turn over his passport but also that he hire his own attorney because he he was represented by just a random free attorney there okay so confident despite the fact that again he told these clients all the bank law all of these things and uh sag in 2024 had obviously made a statement being like no actor should work with this agency this specific rep and that uh all the contracts between the agency and any members a part of sag are terminated and uh july 15th he'll be back in court and the da had a great statement saying as alleged mark measures and kmr stole approximately
Starting point is 00:42:52 1.8 million from 160 hard-working actors many of whom were balancing other jobs to stay afloat while pursuing their acting careers these defendants also stole thousands of dollars from his employees by taking wages that are meant to be invested into retirement accounts rather than pay the actors employees the defendants use their hard-earned money to fund his lavish lifestyle and um it is an ongoing investigation and by chance if you are also an alleged victim uh they are looking for because there's just more and more people popping up and popping up um you can contact their office and 646 i can't read phone number 646-712-0298 it is ongoing and if there's anybody else they're constantly finding more and more people
Starting point is 00:43:36 hot take i don't think agents and managers to get your check i don't think so either i think and if you don't work in this industry when you get paid the money doesn't go to you it goes to your manager and then they take their cut and then write you a check for the rest and that makes zero sense to me because they work for us so therefore i think it should be paid to our company directly and then they can be part of our payroll or whatever, whatever you have set up with your payroll company and then pay their 10% from that. I was going to say, it makes no sense.
Starting point is 00:44:13 Why the person who only has 10% of claim on this check, why do you get it and then give me the 90? Right. That doesn't make any sense to me. And also as someone with ADHD, I am so, so, so fucking lucky that when I signed, or I guess you don't even technically sign with managers. right um but when i started working with our manager she is the greatest of all time i love
Starting point is 00:44:37 her to fucking death but she very quickly was like set me up with business managers who i no longer work with but who were lovely sent me with an attorney all of this and i remember like maybe like a year or so into working together she like sent me a message being like hey so like we're we're figuring out uh something something about whatever payment um but it should be we got it It should be in your account, like, by end of tomorrow. And I was like, what are you talking about? Turns out my, like, prior manager had kept, like, $100,000. Something fucking crazy.
Starting point is 00:45:09 They do. That's the thing. And I had no idea. I had no idea. And also, like, I'm not good at tracking. Like, I don't have that brain. I don't have that mind at all. And so then to have people who were like, oh, we figured out that you hadn't been paid out from, like, X, Y, and Z. So we made sure to come get that.
Starting point is 00:45:24 If I didn't know, I didn't. It happens all the time. all the time off the top all the time it makes no the checks also they claim they get lost all the time i don't me working on both sides of this like i've have seen payments being sent out and then um actors or directors or producers asking like where's my money and it's like we already sent that check out you need to ask your team and then the team's like oh we got lost in the mail or shit like that like shit that makes no sense when at this time most things are directed deposit anyway it doesn't make wire transfer yes it doesn't make any sense so i do not i don't know
Starting point is 00:46:05 if this is something left over from the old studio thing and when actors and all talent were employees of the companies or uh the studios and that's just something that deal with studios yeah and so it needs to change it needs to change like so so so so fucking badly and again like the vast majority of like actors are not making a living off of the money from like residuals or royalties or even just like the contracts for the projects that they do so you do have multiple other jobs and like you don't necessarily have time to keep track of these things and like sometimes they're small checks but they they fucking add up and it's usually like from you being done with the job you're not getting paid to like 90 days later because it has to go through
Starting point is 00:46:53 all these different channels before you even it hits your account yep yep yep and it's just like yeah it's just like fucking insane to me that and like anytime they're like oh you know the check got lost in the mail i'm gonna tell you the the one time that i received a check that i said the mail did everything that they could to deliver it to me it was the envelope you can tell right enough and then the envelope was shredded and then they like duct taped it and then they put it in a plastic little uh baggie and then they said so sorry i don't think you're gonna be able to cash this and i didn't and then i got a wire transfer afterwards but like this whole thing of like this money just gets lost doesn't also when the envelope goes through the envelope the the mail it gets
Starting point is 00:47:35 stamped and you can see exactly when it came through the mail or the person who wrote the check send me the check number yeah tell me what that like yeah i can't fall if i'm the one receiving it i the person writing the check is the one who can see if you cash it i can't tell if someone else has cashed the check that i'm supposed to have yeah it's just like yeah it's just and this is the amount of money i have missed out on just because like adhd and like not remembering or like not whatever any of that kind of stuff but like i'm the the people taking advantage of the fact that like a there's a lot of people who are actors who have ADHD and are not great with like the numbers aspect of it but like there's people who are
Starting point is 00:48:15 good and fine with the number aspect but they don't have fucking time because they have to do all this other shit to pay their rent yep my and my accountant's always because I use QuickBooks and my account's like like he's like there's other things you can use that are free and I'm like no because QuickBooks automatically sends out a thing saying this hasn't been paid or like we're drafting this do have you received this payment like it's constantly reminding me because I can't keep up with all that because again people are doing you're doing a lot of things for like small increments of money that add up to like make up a full-time salary but like you're not getting it from all in one place and i just i bet there's just so many people who've also like quit acting
Starting point is 00:48:56 and like the residual part most actors like unless you're regularly logging into sag to like check your residuals like how much you've gotten i don't i didn't even start i like did that when i had like re-up something like my dues and i was like what's this i'd never even fucking clicked on that part of and i looked and i was like oh that's fun yeah but like a lot of people aren't looking for that and especially like you're old school you're really used to getting just like these checks in the mail and people moved during covid and like all of that shit yeah avia is getting somebody's that was in sag getting their checks all the time and like sending it back and is like change the address yeah you make them pay the dues all every fucking year but you can't you
Starting point is 00:49:40 can't update the address right it's just yeah it makes me irate specifically this time frame of taking advantage of the worst financially emotionally an incredibly hard time for like everybody and like a time that like people are still wondering if we're ever going to come back from 2020 and the strikes in uh the industry yeah all right we're gonna take another break hear that it's your money calling it wants a promotion elevate your savings with the Scotia High Interest Savings Account. Starting point is 00:51:24 and now it's time for my but are they wrong and mine is weird and disturbing and it's coming from florida which weird and disturbing is florida by the way if you say it's weird and disturbing and out of florida it's going to be so much weirder and more disturbing than my typical threshold yeah the bay county sheriff's office recently announced the arrest of this 52 year old woman named Latrance Battle and the details of this is really weird uh on April 10th Battle allegedly went to the workplace of her ex-boyfriend's wife which was a hotel chain in the Florida panhandle and when the employee the wife in this scenario asked if Battle needed a room battle allegedly stated that she was there to pick her up the wife in the situation and then
Starting point is 00:52:20 that's when things took a really dark turn the investigators say that battle then unzipped her jacket to reveal a shirt that had the letters i c e on it ice and to even further the deception she reportedly presented a business card that appeared to indicate that she worked for the sheriff's office. Now, the victim in this case, who reportedly is in process of becoming a U.S. citizen or resident, understandably believed that Battle was a real ICE agent. And according to the deputy's report, the woman said that she was she willingly went with Battle to the car because, quote, she was scared and did not want to get in trouble. Battle then allegedly told her they were going to the sheriff's office as they were driving the victim says that battle
Starting point is 00:53:17 spoke into a handheld radio so this woman was really in character what kind of car i mean they drive like they drive unmarked vehicles in la all the time i guess florida probably has similar laws because like you can drive any unmarked car here yeah and so she really thought that she was legitimately with an immigration enforcer and as the riot continued the victim tried to call her husband and her lawyer and that's when the situation invested escalated even more the investigators say that battle snatched the phone right out of her hand telling her she could make a call once they arrived to the sheriff's office see this is all typical ice behavior yes and that's why it can get so confusing uh-huh
Starting point is 00:54:03 And then the victim became very suspicious. Instead of them heading to the sheriff's office, Battle allegedly drove past it and began making comments about how the woman now has to suffer the consequences of her husband's actions. Oh, this is getting real, Florida. Yeah. And so according to the affidavit, Battle then took the woman to an apartment complex, claiming that additional ICE agents would be waiting there. Battle went into one of the units and the victim reportedly hearing a lot of noise coming from inside. Sensing an opportunity, the woman took her chance and ran. She went to a neighboring apartment, knocked on a window and pleaded with the person inside to let her use the phone.
Starting point is 00:54:49 So then the victim then hid herself behind the neighbor's car to make the call, desperately trying to reach her husband and explain what was happening, describing the woman pretending to be an ICE agent. When Battle came out the apartment and saw the neighbor, she allegedly asked him if he had seen a woman running. Battle even told the neighbor that she had taken the woman's phone because she knows what she did. Evidently not. Right. So thankfully, the neighbor recognized the distress of the situation and let the kidnapped woman into his apartment to wait for law enforcement, actual law enforcement, to arrive. When the victim finally got through to her husband and described the fake ICE agent, his reaction was telling. He reportedly said that the description sounded exactly like his ex-girlfriend, LaTrance Battle, who had even shown up to his work two years prior and attacked him, leading him to file a restraining order against her.
Starting point is 00:55:46 The sheriff's office later released body cam footage of deputies pulling over Battle's vehicle to arrest her. The charges she's facing are incredibly serious, which are kidnapping in commission of a felony, robbery by snatching, impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony, and felony violations of probation. And she's being currently held without bail. And this is all really messed up because I don't think she is the first nor the last person that's going to do this. They're going to take advantage of the fact that this current administration hates immigrants and people will be taking what they consider justice or the law in their own hands. And this is going to incite a lot of violence. Yeah, I think if there's any I'm the first to call out like the fear mongering of like white women thinking that someone looking at them for too long is like, oh, I almost got trafficked or whatever. this to me is like this is this is a high this is very serious because you have people who are
Starting point is 00:56:52 having to be even more private and diligent with who they talk about like having a smaller circle of being like who can i trust and like all of these kinds of things and being like oh i don't i can't tell the wrong like wrong person something that like whatever this is and like you can't trust any but all of this kind of shit like ever like turning everyone's turning on each other that this to me is like yeah like a prime opportunity for fucking weirdos i will say i'm pretty fucking mad at my husband if some woman showed up at your work two years ago all this shit and i don't have her face and her name memorized yes what do you mean men tell you this thing that happened and they leave out like the most like vital important parts yes like there should be photos that are in
Starting point is 00:57:34 your home so you know exactly who this woman is like and say ah sounds like i am your wife why do i not know what she looks like or any of those kinds of things yeah men love to just like have like little lore drops or like tell you like this this isn't even lore like the craziest thing like oh my god something crazy having me work today and i was like yeah this like what it's like oh my god it's just can't even get into it this lady showed up you tell me that's your ex-girlfriend Or even be like, oh, I never told you about that one time. That my ex showed up and beat me up at work? Two years ago?
Starting point is 00:58:10 That's not even long. No. And, like, do you live in the same area? Like, did this man change his name? Obviously, because, I mean, he just drove down the street to his new apartment complex. Not that I'm blaming him, but, like. He has some responsibility in telling his wife the information. i think in general like even on like light situations when like boys come home from
Starting point is 00:58:34 the men's come home from work and they're like oh my god something like did you hear so-and-so broke up and you're like oh my god what happened i don't know i go get some information but the fact that latrance knew where this woman worked knew her name knew exactly what she looked like she had too much information for somebody that has a restraining order out against them so you should you should have his the wife the husband should have been very forthcoming about who this woman was well and also why does this woman know like anything about the wife let alone the fact that that the wife would be afraid of ice facebook being there that's what i'm saying like it's too much information stop putting all your information online and i'm like if you have
Starting point is 00:59:17 a restraining order against someone not only should they be blocked on everything you change your name on facebook don't have this you have a family you have a wife like you can't no no no no no that's fucking crazy wild i want to add one thing other thing to mind because i forgot about this part and i skipped over it um one of the excuse one of the other excuses that he did for why he was not able to pay his clients was not only mail delays and things getting lost in the mail but he also blamed uh earthquakes power outages blackouts and some employees being sick and one of his that's like a lot of people who were affected by this but specifically there was one actor who was he stole almost twenty thousand dollars and that was like supposed to
Starting point is 01:00:06 be used for their ivf treatment and like they still haven't gotten it and like that's a timely kind of thing and it's like for medical behavior not for medical conditions and uh yeah he also paid off like cars and stuff and then zara which i'm like zara he was probably getting gifts from women at zara yeah and then oh right women saxon avenue as well as revolve yeah he was getting gifts get that bald man off of revolve.com he was getting gifts for probably 19 year olds all right well that's the end of our episode thank you so much for listening we hope you all enjoyed and as always

Maybe it was driving out of the mountain. I felt like I could see so far away. Like it was just like huge.
Starting point is 01:02:12 You're like at the top of the mountain. So maybe you're just looking. Oh, maybe that's what it was. And it was just like, maybe it was the lack of build, like the tall buildings. It was just so vast that I was like, oh, I can see why like they write country songs
