Starting point is 00:00:00 On today's episode of Don't Blame Me, we've got some fun times for you. We have a lot of talk of what we're doing, what we've been up to, who's been up and around our business. We've got a Melissa, I was going to say wellness update, lack of health update. This is not, we're not exceeding in the wellness department. We're feeling quite unwell. We talk about what we have been up to, past weekend, gossip, everything. and then we give some advice. We talk about what it's like about getting desensitized to wildfires and being prepared.
Starting point is 00:00:36 And then we have something really fun, a fictional dilemma. Some may call it a hypothetical, but I think that hypotheticals get a bad rap, even though I love them. So this is being deemed a fictional dilemma, incredibly fun. And it's also Choose Your Own Adventure. We'd love to know what you think as well. And then we round out this episode with our in-house X-Men connoisseur giving their thoughts on the casting and me being, and learning. So many brand new things.
Starting point is 00:01:00 The lore runs deep. So how do we participate? How do the people participate? If you'd like to call for an upcoming episode, you want some of our advice. 310-994-0976. You can also send us an email at meganpodcastatgmail.com or you can fill out the form in the show notes.
Starting point is 00:01:18 All right, let's get into it. Real Canadian Superstore has everything you need this back-to-school season. Save on lunchbox savers. Slicy Slice DeliMeat products for always 375 and get Life Brand Pure Vita shampoo or conditioner for $8 each. At Real Canadian Superstore, when you're ready, we're ready with a whole world and more. Well, you know, I'm not feeling worse. You've kind of stayed at this spot.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Yeah, on Tuesday, I'd say, I'll say I'm not coughing as much. There's less fluids, but on Tuesday I started taking 11 pills in a day. my god. Yeah, my steroid inhaler doubled. Oh, so do you feel like Shee Hulk? A little bit. Yeah. Because I'm taking, the pills are mostly all steroids too. I assumed. It does something to you. I will say
Starting point is 00:02:30 I'm, like, nose-wise, I'm breathing. I don't have, I haven't had any congestion, like, in my nose area, nasal condescending since the initial sickness, which is even, like, even at my best, I usually have one nose stopped up. So my breathing is better, but in my chest, it's very flimmy in there. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:56 I feel so bad for you. Yeah. It's like I don't trust myself reading anything. I haven't read any emails because, like, I'm loopy. Oh, yeah, it makes you a different part. Like, it just, it's, yeah, it's tough. It's tough. So we're also not filming, we're not doing video again today, which I have to say.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I'm so glad I asked because I almost did like the quickest little get ready, like put makeup on before my doctor's appointment. And I was like, I really don't want to wear make. Like I really didn't have the time either. And then when you were like no makeup, I was like, sick. It's flawless. This will be way better for me. Exponentially better for me. How many days are we going on?
Starting point is 00:03:34 You've been sick for almost a full month now. It's over a month. Oh my God. Oh, you're right. Yeah. Yeah. Damn. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Yeah. a nebulizer? No. Oh, no. No. No. No. That'll mess. No, it's not in the hell. Yeah. I guess you're an adult. So, like, part of the nebulizer is like for children to get the medication. Yeah. vaporized. The steroid inhaler, it's not a puff inhaler. I talked about it before. It's like a little switch that pushes the powder out and then I suck it real hard and it's disgusting. So there's that. So now I'm doubled up on that. Oof, oof, oof, oof. Well, I hope this clears up soon.
Starting point is 00:04:17 I hope so, too. I'm getting a chest x-ray because I might have pneumonia. Who knows? And then after that, going to the pulmonologist. Yeah. Have they done a sample of the, what even, have you spit into a test tube yet? Yeah, nothing, like, it's nothing coming back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And also, it's a heat wave. Like, it's too hot for you to be sick. Like, the heat should push all of the illness out. Yeah. I'm not going outside. No, but it doesn't matter. Psychologically, I don't think people should be allowed to be ill when it is hot out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:49 It just, no. That's soup activity. Yeah. And like, there's not enough pumpkins out on shelves for you to be sick. It's just not fair. It's not the vibe. No, it's so summer. Yeah, it's still summer.
Starting point is 00:05:01 It's a complete wrong vibe. Anyone is trying to do Halloween stuff or fall stuff now? No. Like, also, if you, if we even used to be able to consider, it's still not. Always did. And we got in an argument probably like the last two years about this. No, no. Melissa, I have never in my life done anything because August is my birthday. On September 1st, I'll do fall. Okay. We're close enough. I would never at the end of August. This is my birthday month. And my birthday is summer.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Summer birthday, summer. And September is still summer to the last few days. And you're like, no, we got it's already fall. And I'm like, no, it's not. Yeah. I just need to work on my ADHD because the issue is it does. take me like over a month to prepare to do anything. So I start early. But I'm with you. And now because of climate change, September does not seem like it's, we're going to be slowing down weather-wise. So I'm like, maybe we just push everything a month and maybe we add an extra month. Or we start it, you know, when it actually starts and end it when it actually ends. That's the problem is people are starting it too early. It's like September 23rd. I agree. I just will need a, I will need the the pharmacist to come out with a better adderol, that means that like when I take it, I can actually
Starting point is 00:06:12 get stuff done as opposed to small increments of things done. Okay. Well, it's fall doesn't start to September 22nd and it ends November 30th. So that's everyone's problem. Like, stop. I agree with it. Actually, you know what? I mean, what am I to argue with the fact? But that is the correct vibe. Because to me, beginning of summer, I mean, sorry, beginning of September is like the very end of summer. Like, it's still, summary. Great. Thank you for finally coming around. Just the content. You know, if I'm going to make the fall content, I got to get on top of it. Literally. There are people already putting out their fall cooking content. And I'm like with the way that everything is getting recalled,
Starting point is 00:06:54 I wouldn't do that. That's a really fucking good point. You make up, you make a video this week. The main ingredient's going to be recalled next week. Now your videos is Nolan Bowling. Yeah. I think if you want to like pre-shoot that content, so you have to have to, it to post as soon as fall starts, go for it. But to start it this early, yeah, imagine you're making blueberry muffins and it's like, oh, so sorry you can't have frozen blueberries. No. Thank God, though, because I'm only eating fresh blueberries. But usually we choose the frozen because they are safer. And so blueberries were one of the ones that people were told blueberries, raspberries and blackberries and even strawberry. All berries were with the cyclospora.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Everyone was like, oh, don't have fresh ones. Make sure you eat frozen. And now they're like, Sike, frozen berries have, is it E. coli or salmonella? One of them. I don't know. It's hard to keep up. You got the popsicles with glass in them. I know. I know. With the metal in it. There's so much happening. You can't, the clear eyes, eye drops. They're like, don't use them because you could go blind. And they also just increased, I think, the blueberry one to like, instead of being like warning, don't consume. They go, by the way, you could die. What?
Starting point is 00:08:03 And I also feel really bad because there's this famous, there's this TikToker who's, got a great following. He's very funny, very quick, very witty. He is a lawyer, but he's also a writer. So the way he delivers his videos, imagine, a combo of lawyer and fiction writer. So a lot of people in Hollywood actually are lawyers, but writers. That is true. Mottes knows the guy who played the lawyer in season one of jury duty, because they work together in a nation. His husband, he has this whole video about how his husband, if I'm not mistaken, is like obsessed with one. like one of the specific flavors of that popsicle and to the point where like it was selling out because he had a bunch of time. And I remember that. Like a while ago he made videos about that like when I was on TikTok for a
Starting point is 00:08:48 Yeah. And even before that it was like a viral tweet or something like it was and they had sent him all these popsicles, all that. And I was like immediately I thought of him and I was like, oh my God. What a good time though for him to have an absolute stockpile of those motherfucking popsicles. But shit, glass? What? I don't even know what we're going to be able to do it. at this point. I know. And all I can say, so happy, we just, we brought the roadkill eating imbecile into the office. And the roadkill eating, Coke snorting off toilet seats.
Starting point is 00:09:23 What else? What ate his brain? A monkey? A demon? A worm? I think it's a worm. Yeah. Missing part of his brain.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah. Unfortunately, his sister, who actually had common sense also has. whatever that thing is too. She sounds the same as him. I heard. I listened to her on an audio clip of her. And I was like, oh, wow. Because I didn't know which specific of his things.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yes, his elements led to this. Yes. And I wasn't sure if it was. This isn't self-imposed. No, no. And I would also, I would implore people who are so just chomping at the bit to dissect true crime, the very unethical one. Just go back and like look at the Kennedy's Wikipedia.
Starting point is 00:10:07 media. That kept me occupied. For me and my hairstyle of Shaley, neither of us knew anything about it. And I remember being like, holy, I didn't even know how many kids there were. All of this shit. There is the, the lore of that family runs so motherfucking deep. Yeah. And please read actual facts and not watch a Ryan Murphy production because that's all made up. Yeah. Well, that's, you know, have you seen the ads for his new one? Mott keeps getting them and he goes, do we have to watch us? And I go, well, no one's making us. He goes, I feel like they all. I just keep seeing ads.
Starting point is 00:10:37 And I have to just be like, I think I have to watch it now. Yeah. Melanie asked me, my sister Melanie asked me the same thing. And I was like, you realize who I had to go down the list of who Ryan Murphy was. Because she's not, you know, she doesn't know people like that. And she's like, oh, she's like, I only like scream clean. And I was like, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:58 That's a consensus amongst us as well. I like Glee too. To an extent. I've also heard Dr. Odyssey. I auditioned for a part, didn't get it. But I also heard Dr. Odyssey was like, it was a scream queen's level camp and people were devastated. It got canceled. Because it was more of an ABC show.
Starting point is 00:11:16 That's the thing. It's like you have to look at the networks too that will determine how far he goes and how much input he has from other people too. Scripted Fox let him do whatever the fucking bonus do. Same with FX and Netflix. They all let him do whatever. premium channels though. Fox's not a premium channel. No.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I don't know anything scripted they're doing now. I could see them doing a Yellowstone vibe. I don't keep up with Fox. Me neither. Hmm. Only KTLA. I think because they're merged with ABC now. I think most of the scripted stuff just went to ABC.
Starting point is 00:11:53 I don't know. I might be making stuff. That's fine. You can spread lies on here. You're on medication. You are not held responsible for any of the things that you say. And neither are we. I mean, neither am I.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Yeah. I don't know if you can tell. They won't be able to see. But I've been cleaning out. Oh, well, I know also because of your button-up shirts are so in order back there. I know, right? But you've been posting on Instagram of things that you should keep or throw away. Here, I'm going to do this.
Starting point is 00:12:26 I added a second rod to my closet. Nice. Yeah. So there are things. in this closet that like I've actually have not seen I didn't put anything in this closet the movers did so I haven't taken everything out until like this moment have you been in that house don't ask questions I can't I don't know the answer to okay and so it was definitely um and I had one moment or like I pulled out this like bag that was within a box that was within a bag
Starting point is 00:12:57 and I remember like oh I looked through this this is where I found my passport and then I was like wait and I just like put this bag back in the this box back in that bag and didn't clean it out. And that was true. And so, yeah, I'm finding a lot of like straight almonds at the bottom of tote bags and, you know, all that stuff. But I'm getting so much of it done. I have so much I'm getting rid of him purging. I'm going to donate a bunch. I'm also going to sell some stuff. I don't know how much I'm going to sell. It's just so much fucking effort if I'm selling individual items. I'll probably, maybe I'll like do a consignment store for some and then like a couple individual ones. But I'm making a room for stuff.
Starting point is 00:13:34 here because I need this, I need this room to be better. And we have a moth problem because it's an old house. And so they're eating some of my sweaters. And I'm getting real pissed about it. And I have moth traps and everything. But I need to have like less stuff to be on top of it. Okay. And I have a big old box of, um, makeup and things because I'm also simultaneously going through that and like all the bags of PR stuff for you to look through. I'm going to go through and give some stuff to like you don't need purple shampoo. So I'm going to go that to, one of my blonde neighbors. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:06 And anything else you might. I'm like, oh, she wouldn't like this. Well, thank you. Yeah. It's going to be good. I think you'll enjoy some of the stuff. Actually, I know you will. Because I enjoy some of the stuff,
Starting point is 00:14:20 and it's just colors that would look better on you. Mm-hmm. Oh. Guess what I did today? You had some things up your twat today. No, I actually didn't. I went there, and I just talked. to a man. And I have to say, even in that interaction, lovely wonderful male gynecologist,
Starting point is 00:14:42 didn't even look inside, didn't even spread me up. We didn't even do a little field test, nothing like that. It's like they make you do like a consult before you do like anything else. But they didn't have you do the consult and then go to the. No, I have to schedule all that. And by the way, I have to call. I said, I have to call. You guys can't call me to schedule. this is going to take me months. But even in that, even though there was no exam... You couldn't even do it at the front desk and just say, let's schedule it for this day?
Starting point is 00:15:12 They printed a piece of paper, and then one of the pieces of paper didn't even have the phone number on it. And so then they had to write it down and then give it to me. I say that as if before we got on the microphone, we're talking about my mess when I'm trying to schedule to get my x-ray done for my test. And it's a whole... It's so many...
Starting point is 00:15:31 hoops you have to jump through. But still. Whatever happened to the days of being like, they want to test my blood for one thing. And I go, okay, Doc, whip out that needle. Like, you can't just run that single vial of blood right now. No, I have to make an appointment. They have to schedule different things for different things that go through your insurance. Yeah. So, but even in, and again, couldn't be nicer. Very, very lovely man. There was no exam. And even in just like talking to him, he said, all. the right things. I still left that appointment going, I don't want to have a boy. I don't want it to be a boy. Like, it's fine. But, like, I just, I'd prefer not. Like, I would just prefer it to be a woman. But if they, if now that I'm a patient of that practice, if they will let me do my next appointment with a woman without having to do another goddamn consult, then that's what I will switch to. Otherwise, I won't because the consult, my co-pay is, $60 and parking is $12.
Starting point is 00:16:34 They don't validate? No, which I think should be illegal. I think it should be illegal to charge for parking at medical facilities. Yeah, I think so too. Point blank. I just like, and the fact that they don't validate and the craziest part is it's not even the most expensive parking I've had at a hospital. Like, and 12 is the max. But that's still I'm like, oh my God, so stupid.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And it's the parking structure of the hospital. And they go, I'm sorry, we don't validate. I go, but this is yours. I didn't say this to them, but I was like, so I just, I have to pay. Fine, but like, I'd rather this be actually legal, not even on a state level, on a federal level. It's just ridiculous. But yeah, so now I'm getting a blood draw for to test the probably, you did a more in-depth one, but I can, because I'm on birth control, it's just like one that they can test. That's kind of like a general range of what your ovarian reserve might be.
Starting point is 00:17:30 and it's like not concrete, but it's like it gives you like a, it's not like so far off. You're supposed to get them both done at the, you're get them done within because like one checks for the other. But like, yeah. And my, I'm like, if one's fine. Well, yeah, I asked him. I was like, so like would it be beneficial for me to how long would I have to go off birth and probably get the other one? And he goes, don't go off birth. It's not that.
Starting point is 00:17:52 It's a range. It's like it's not even, it doesn't make it more accurate. They just, it's just like this is this and this is this. And it's like thumbs up. Exactly. So I'm doing that and then I'm getting a transvaginal ultrasound that I have to make an appointment for. And then he wants me to schedule laparoscopic surgery and he doesn't really want me to wait for surgery. He's like, I'd rather you do that so we know what we're dealing with than you waiting to get surgery until you're like, okay, I'm ready to have kids.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Because in my thought process, which is not, he didn't say it was an incorrect thought. process. And it's true that like you're most likely to be able to get pregnant after that surgery, like right after surgery. That's like all of that stuff removed. He goes, yeah, but that's like the yes, but also at the same time we have no idea what we're going to find. And like we don't know what that is. So if it was like you've already had the surgery before and we kind of know what we're what we're going to see and all that kind of stuff, this, it feels like if you're already in the mindset ready to, and I'm not, but like if you were in the mindset ready to start trying to have kids and then this surgery like you know we're finding something else out and like we might need
Starting point is 00:19:03 to remedy x y and z or do something else more mentally you're not prepared for that and i was like oh that's that is a good point um because he is concerned which again it's like just my doctor being like talking about penetrative sex and i'm like okay you're a boy this is this is weird you're a boy how old is he he has kids but how like it's different talking to like a four 40 year old versus 60 year old. He's probably 40. Okay. Because I just like grandpa, it's even worse.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Oh my God. Never even crossed my mom. This is like my first time. I hope he's gay. I don't know if he's gay. But like every other male doctor I've had is either like 70 and like dresses like a 95 year old. It dresses like the grandfather from up or is gay or is like my cardiologist. hot and young, deadly combo, especially for a cardiologist. It's fucked up.
Starting point is 00:20:02 That man was really hot. I know. I told you he was hot. And then we looked him up months later on it. And we found him and you were like, oh my God, he is hot, hot. And I was like, that's what I said. I have been following his brother because his brother is a real estate agent. Yep. Yep, yep, yep. So, but yeah, so he's concerned that there's a possibility also because the last time I had a transvaginal ultrasound was like 20. 22, I think. My ovaries were, quote, unquote, hiding behind, no, my, yeah, we're hiding behind my uterus. And they weren't sure if they were there all the time because they only looked at it that one time.
Starting point is 00:20:42 So it's, it could just be that they were hiding. And he was saying that with it, with the trans, you have to like essentially try and push the ovaries to see if they move and separate. But that paired with other symptoms. He goes, there is a likelihood. There's, there's a chance that they're actually not there for fun, that they're just. They're stuck there. I'm surprised I didn't do another one soon after. I want to say that I did another one at some point, but I think that might have been before.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I think I might have gotten one in like 2019 or 2018. And then I don't have any of the medical records from that place. That's also the place where I reported the nurse because he just kept talking about how much he loves Trump. And I was like, but then she like left my insurance and like it was, I. I lost the documents for that, but I don't know that she was even looking for that. But then for this one, they were looking for cysts. And they didn't see any cysts. And so then they were like, oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:21:39 But he's like, yeah, they should have followed up about that. So now he's going to, when they do the transvaginal ultrasound, I guess they're going to try and push my little ovaries around while using me as a joystick. Like, crazy. Absolutely fucking crazy. So I was thinking about that. And I go, oh, God, I don't want that to be you. Like, I'm sorry. I would rather that be a woman.
Starting point is 00:22:00 But he was really nice. He didn't. Yeah. Actually, that's actually probably what would happen. Or an MP. But some of my DMs was saying, because I posted about going to see a male gynaecologist, and someone was like, there's like no women in my small town that are under my insurance. So I have to go to a man. And the way that I gaslight myself into like feeling better about it is like I inherently trust women.
Starting point is 00:22:26 And I don't respect her trust men. So, like, I feel really comfortable, like, arguing with them about things or really advocating for myself because I'm like, they don't know shit. And I was like, you know what? And they were like, it helps a little bit. But like, yeah, I still wish it was home. And I was like, a good way, a good way to make yourself feel better about it. But we'll see, it was so lovely to see all those, like, pregnant people that everyone was just like so happy in that waiting room. And it was like so sweet. And like, there was one woman who was like very pregnant. And she was like tired. Duh. She's very pregnant. And her partner came in and was like helping her like walk across. And she was like, helping her like walk across. cross the room and she was like, oh, like getting so fed up with him. And I was like, I'm like, it was just so cool to watch. And then there are people with like newborns and people like like slightly bigger babies. And everybody was just like, it was just so cool. I was like looking at everyone being, aw. And I was like, I bet they think I'm one of them. I'm not. But I'm so happy for all of you. So, um, yeah, that was that was my morning. And I also took the wrong freeway twice on the way there. That's not surprising to me at all. No. No. No.
Starting point is 00:23:27 I was so good the last time I went to this hospital, though, and I didn't do any of the wrong ones. But Mott's even sometimes takes the wrong ones here. And I was like, damn, I would have been so good. But, alas, it's fine. Oh, and I have a new Spotify radio that I would like to recommend to everybody, including you, even though you have Apple music. Yeah. But I think you could have an equivalent. Okay, because I'm not going to be on Spotify because then it's just ads.
Starting point is 00:23:53 No, thank you. Don't they do like a radio, though, equipment where you pick an artist and it's, It's like, yeah, so I assumed it would be the same. Robin radio. It's what a vibe. It's Robin. It's Whitney Houston. It's Donna.
Starting point is 00:24:07 It's just like I'm in my car. Grooven. Like, I'm having so much fucking fun. So I'd recommend it to anybody. It's so far, like, the number one playlist that I've been doing. Anytime I have to go somewhere, I'm like not that stoked about, whether it's the DMV, the doctor, post office in a while. But, like, you know, all those places. You're like, ugh, CV.
Starting point is 00:24:28 I go to get my meds. Put on some of that. It's just. I've spent so much time at CVS in the last week. Yeah. Yeah. Do you have a favorite pharmacist at least there? Anyone, anyone, anyone connect your connect. I try to go through the drive-thru this much as possible.
Starting point is 00:24:44 But sometimes the drive-thru takes so long. Yeah. I've never done that because I just, I don't know. I prefer not. I always feel like I'm trapped. But if it's like 10 o'clock in the line, morning, what am I doing? Sitting in the car, I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Sitting in the car. That's totally fine. No, that makes total sense. I get that. Especially if it's hot out. Yeah. And alas, it is motherfucking hot out. Which is a polar opposite to that wedding we were at. I was freezing my mother fucking ass off, Melissa. How is the air quality?
Starting point is 00:25:16 Not fantastic, but like it wasn't that bad because if you think of like, we were 50 miles away from Big Sur. But also how the coast is, it's so like, um, wavy. and like jagged, jagged, jagged, that like, if you're not, the smoke can get caught in like those pockets of hills. And so as long as you're like cleared that, but some spots we drove to, we were like, ooh, real bad. Other spots not as, not as bad. But it was like 50 degrees at night.
Starting point is 00:25:46 One of the best parts of this weekend, besides like hanging out with these people who I like, I made a new friend who I've, I've desperately wanted a friend like this. Not that I'm just like reducing her to her career. She's a doctor. And I'm like, we've needed that inner rotation. And I just kept calling her. Everyone is named Alex, by the way. Like 90% of the people there are named Alex.
Starting point is 00:26:08 And so when I found out, I know, I don't know. Montza's college friends. No, Montch's college friends are all named Zach. And all of these friends are named Alex. When I was in high school, I'd say like 75% of the guys were named Zach. It's crazy. Like, come up with a new name. I've said this before.
Starting point is 00:26:26 We need, we need new names for boys. But then I find out that this doctor's name, who's married to one of the, so she's not even in the, she's, she's a wife of. Her name is Alex,
Starting point is 00:26:37 but I get to call her Dr. Alex. And so now everybody calls her Dr. Alex. And she was like, wait what? And I go, well, that's what we've,
Starting point is 00:26:43 that's what you've been doing. And she's like, yeah. And I was like, it's also respectful. You're Dr. Alex. And she's like a surgeon doctor.
Starting point is 00:26:50 Like, she's like really cool and like really smart. So that was really, that was fun for me. And now she's in my phone and with the little doctor emoji. I love that. Yeah. That's how I feel about Sarah.
Starting point is 00:27:02 I'm like a doctor Sarah. I've been, I've always been jealous because like my doctor's proxy through you. I would have to send my medical questions to you to ask her. Right. And now I have someone who I've literally met. I've only hung out with her for one weekend and now she's going to be like, oh God, she's going to texting medical questions.
Starting point is 00:27:18 No, but I like the option. I like the idea that I have it there. I'm never going to do it. Sometimes I'm just talking about my. date is Sarah and then she starts like asking me in-depth questions to get down to the bottom of what we're doing totally and I'm not I wasn't looking for medical advice but she she she she just gives it that's how one of the one of the other girls there she's getting married in February and she was talking about thinking that maybe she wanted to try a beta blocker for walking down the aisle
Starting point is 00:27:47 because she was like my anxiety men's aren't going to cut it like I'm wondering if I need a beta blocker and I was like oh I I yeah they're great but I would take it a little bit a couple times before to see how it works for you. And I was like, and as long as you're not allergic. And then Dr. Alex was like, are you allergic? And then I went into that story and I was talking about how my lips swelled. And she went, yeah, so I didn't know. And she goes, yeah, that is the moment where if you had told me that as friends that your lips were swelling, I would have been an emergency ASAP. And I was like, oh, yeah, I definitely was just like, it's going to be fine. She goes, just so you know in the future, lip swelling, never fine. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:28:21 Okay, good to know, Dr. Alex. I learned things. And I had fantastic food in Cambria. Melissa, I think the mayor's gluten-free or big gluten-free has gotten into this town. There's like 500 people who live in this town. And there's at least like three dedicated gluten-free restaurants. Not a stitch of gluten goes into that restaurant. And I go, huh?
Starting point is 00:28:42 That's awesome. Everything else has like multiple options and like they're very aware of like everything. But multiple restaurants. I got one that was a blue corn waffle with like a house. I would say it was like a spicy aoli kind of style. Like hot. It was like a more of a visc, not viscous. Viscis is thin, right?
Starting point is 00:29:03 Yeah. So like a thicker like aoli kind of thing. And then it had bacon, but it specifically had whatever it's called when it's the chunky bacon, like the thick. A thick cut bacon is the only kind of bacon I like. I do not like a thin, crispy bacon. I don't want a thick meaty bacon. Preferably.
Starting point is 00:29:20 if you've put it in, they probably got it straight from the butcher. Yeah. Instead of like buying it packaged. Because if you go straight to the butcher, they give you those thick slices. It's like, you know how the ends of things where they're like chunky squares or rectangles? It was like that level. Yeah, that's a butcher cut. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:29:39 It was just as wide as it was all the way around. I prefer bacon that's been in the oven as opposed to the skillet. Me too. It keeps the meat on it. Yes, the integrity of the meat. I'm with you. But you can still make it crispy if you want to. I don't want it, though.
Starting point is 00:29:58 But even if you do it on the stove top, you're screwed. It's either raw or crispy. You have no in between. And then it had avocado and like two fried eggs on top and like hot sauce. It was phenomenal. And I was like, I love this. Savory waffles have been my special interest since I was like in middle school. So I was thrilled.
Starting point is 00:30:15 So it was a good time. Good, good time. When West Jet first took flight in 1996, the vibes were a bit different. People thought denim on denim was peak fashion, inline skates were everywhere, and two out of three women rocked, the Rachel. While those things stayed in the 90s, one thing that hasn't is that fuzzy feeling you get when WestJet welcomes you on board. Here's to Westjetting since 96. Travel back in time with us and actually travel with us at westjet.com slash 30 years.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Do you give some advice? Let's give some advice. Like if you're gluten-free, go to Cambria. Okay. This is, we've never gotten anything like this. And I love this. And it's probably the best for me to give this Medicaid it. So let's go for you.
Starting point is 00:31:02 And like, hey, if this goes well, everyone would love that other people formulated these. Something about me, I live for a motherfucking hypothetical. I hate hypotheticals too. But this, at this point, I just don't feel that comfortable giving anybody that wants serious advice. Yeah. Some serious advice. Also, what if we rephrased it to fictional? because then I feel you'd maybe have a better view of it than hypothetical.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Yeah. Imagine you have to choose one out of three curses for your true romantic soulmate. If you don't have a soulmate, imagine you have a man who is perfect for you in every single way. Anyways, one sunny afternoon, the two of you are on a romantic walk through the woods. It would never happen. When an actual witch pops out from behind a tree. Classic, she coggles and says, I'm feeling generous today. I'm going to curse your man, which is one of three.
Starting point is 00:31:55 It cusses forever. No takebacks. You must choose one or I'll make him disappear forever. Just so, you know, that was me. They didn't say I had to do the voice. Then she hits you with the options. Curse one. He will snore incredibly loud every single night. The curse also prevents you from me, oh God, prevents you from ever telling him about it and you must always sleep in the same bed. He sleeps like a baby and has no idea about his snoring. Thick earmuffs become your only savior, but they're uncomfortable and sometimes the snoring is so noise, you can still hear it. You'll still manage to fall asleep every night, but you'll still feel tired in the morning. Curse number two, his member becomes permanently skinny. The length stays however
Starting point is 00:32:34 long it was before, making it still functional for sex, but he loses half his girth. It might break. For him, though, his perception of his member remains exactly the same size as was before. It's impossible for him to notice any difference. And again, the curse forbids you from telling him about the decrease in size. Curse number three. He develops a, this is a warning for anybody who's got a fear of vomit. Curse like, you're going to say etymome? No, I can't remember how to say it. And that's the only word that was coming to my head. Edomedeophobia, but then it was like on a monopoeia and edamomone were the only two words coming to my head. He develops a vomiting condition. Once per week, every week, he will vomit a large projectile amount at any random moment when the two of you
Starting point is 00:33:18 together. It happens so fast that you can never prepare and every single time he vomits, he immediately forgets he has this condition. Again, the curse forbids you from ever telling him about it. So, which curse do you pick? This one sounds like the worst. This is so easy for me. This is so easy for me. Curse three is by far the worst. Yeah, this is so easy. I have to sleep. So like curse one, no. Even like growing up at home, my parents were on different levels, but my dad snores awful. And there would be times in the night where, like, their room was above mine and I would have to like hit the ceiling for him to stop snoring like I cannot I can't do that so I'm already out with number one number three absolutely the fuck not absolutely not I can because because
Starting point is 00:34:02 if he's throwing up I'm going to throw up me too I get sympathy moments yes me too and I no no thank you number two we can work with there are things that we can introduce he may not know but there are he doesn't have to know I don't have to tell him I can just be like, this is my soulmate. This is my soulmate. Like, he's going to go along with what I want. Like, there are toys that add girth that you can just mold around that and we are fine. We are perfectly fine.
Starting point is 00:34:31 He's still enjoying everything. I'm going to enjoy things. Like, you know, just lean into the freakiness. You're fine. That was the easiest thing ever. So I'm actually going to pick Curse 1 because that's it. I already live that every day. And if I, if I,
Starting point is 00:34:47 I'm already living that. Like, I might as well keep the girth. Like, here's the thing. I wake up when our, like, our watering system for our garden beds turns on every morning. Like, I wake up if a bird, I wake up with like literally anything. I'm the lightest sleeper in the fucking world. Every guy I have ever dated as, like, an adult sleeping over to, has always snored. I can deal with a little snoring because there's like one guy.
Starting point is 00:35:13 I could go to sleep with the rhythm of the snoring. but loud-ass snoring that I have to wear earmuffs, absolutely not. No, I also, I used to have a one of the guy I did it in college. As long as I fell asleep before him, I would be fine. His wasn't like that loud. It wouldn't like keep me up necessarily. But the snoring part, it also, I know that I'm like, I'm adjusting this curse in the sense of being like you can't stop it.
Starting point is 00:35:38 But like, you know, if you sleep in different ways, snoring changes. And also we're suspending disbelief here because it says he sleeps like a baby and has no idea about the snoring. He will, if he's not doing anything to mitigate his snoring, he will eventually die in early death and then I will have a peace and quiet. Like, you can't just like snore unassisted without medical intervention for years. Yeah, you'll die. Like you, you will eventually stop getting enough oxygen long term that like that will affect your lifespan. So then he would just die and then I get a good night's sleep. Like, you know, but here's the other part of it is like it doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:36:15 what the noise is. I have such a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep that the snoring I'm truly used with. The only person whose snores were crazy to me was one time we were at the mountain house. My brother-in-law fell asleep and he let out the crazy. He was in the living room and I was like on my computer down there. He let out the craziest snore I've ever heard and I thought it was Mots and I was like, holy shit. Like did he just die? Was he just like possessed in his sleep by a demon? And Mots already snores. And I was like, holy shit. It was crazy. And I told him the next day. And he goes, I don't think I snore. And I go, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:50 And I told him, I told him because it was an alarming snore that I was like, I think you need to go to the doctor. That really scared me. It was like, that's so freaky. My brother-in-law also has a terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible snoring condition. Like, and I'm like, go get a fucking CPAP machine, please. Because his snoring is awful. Well, when it sounds scary and you're like, this is a medical. whole event. Yes. Yeah. But this is like the one time he's done it and his wife was like, and she's a light sleeper. Like she's also like me. She's not a good sleeper. And she was like, I've never heard him snore. And I was like, okay. So then he might have gotten possessed by like a demon. Like it was like crazy. I think I also woke him up because I got worried. I was like, I think you might, I think you might have just like your soul might have left your body just right there for a quick sec. But I would love to do any more of these fictional dilemmas. This is fun. If anyone wants to submit.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Any more of these? And let us know which ones would you pick? I think objectively, regardless how you feel, I don't have a phobia of vomiting. But like Melissa said, I'm a, I'm a sympathy monitor. So that would be very difficult for me. But I think that universally would probably be like, unless someone has like a newborn and like or like multiple kids and they're so used to vomit. But that's different because that vomit, that's not a retching vomit.
Starting point is 00:38:11 Like a newborn vomit, you just look down and you're like, oh, the baby spit up. That's true. I guess, yeah, I want to know. I want to know if parents, would you pick some, would, do you still think three is the worst? Like, if you're around like barfie kids, is that still the worst one? Because I don't think that would change for me because like when my nephew, like, threw up, that was a really bad day for me as well. Yeah. I've been around like actual like barfie three-year-olds or, you know, an actual child and I can't do it.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Like I have to exit the room because I will also throw up. I can clean up the throw up after, but I cannot. be in the room while the throwup is happening. I don't know that I could clean it up, but in that moment, I had to immediately leave the room, and I felt like such an asshole. Like, I felt like such a bad aunt. Thankfully, his parents were home.
Starting point is 00:38:54 But I was like, the last thing they need on top of the baby vomit or the toddler vomit all over his toys would be if my adult vomit, oh, my God, happens all over them. And I was like, I have to get myself out of this situation, because I will throw up. So, and I also hate when Moth throws up. Like, the noise is that, it's the most dramatic vomiting you've ever heard in your life. And also, boys don't know how to barf. So, like, one time I looked at, he, like, the stomach
Starting point is 00:39:18 flew and he was, like, standing up over the toilet. I go, oh my God. Why? No, I need direct shot. Crouch, please. Get down. Direct, direct shot. Your head should be dangerously close to that motherfucking water. It should be so close that that splashback from that toilet water gets on your fucking face. You should have a towel around your neck. You should be sipping water, like. Yeah, you should be butt naked. Yes. Clutching that rim. Absolutely clutching. You should fall asleep. You should have the imprint of the fucking toilet seat. Disgusting. And he was just standing there with his arm up on the wall.
Starting point is 00:39:49 And I was like, no, this is not how this fucking works. Boys don't know how to do anything like that. They can't do dainty. Okay. Next up, this person is 23. She her. Hi, Megan and Melissa. Long time, 7-8 years, listener, first-time caller.
Starting point is 00:40:13 This is kind of an existential one, but how do you guys living in L.A. get used to the lingering threat of wildfires? I live in the UK, and while in some recent hot sense, summers past, there have been occasional wildfires. This year, surprise, things have gotten more extreme in both mainland Europe and the U.K., and we are told that this is the new normal. Obviously, there's nothing normal or natural about the current rate of climate change, but I wanted to know how you navigate the constant possibility of actual event of wildfires. As I tell you, there's a fire across from where I live. It's not spreading and it's not huge amount of smoke, aka slash I sure hope
Starting point is 00:40:43 that we'll be fine. But how do you rationalize this kind of thing? The other day, I was coming back from London and both the train and coach services were disrupted due to fires on the track in the motorway. I feel like on the pod you guys often talk about wildfires in L.A. and other parts of the U.S., but, you know, evacuations, having go bags, are you just desensitized or does being growing up for Megan in L.A. just prepare or educate you more on those things? I'm also struggling to navigate the social aspect of everything, aka knowing that I'm sharing this sliver of earth with people who still think having disposable barbecues. What the fuck is disposable barbecue? No clue. That's a cultural thing.
Starting point is 00:41:17 Disposable barbecues is a good idea when the grass is like straw. I know it isn't an easy question, but hopefully you can start a discussion. Maybe there's no way to feel normal about these things. But since you both live somewhere susceptible to fires, I was hoping you could help. Love you. Okay, so I looked up disposable barbecues. It looks like a little tin, like, you know, the warming. For drugs?
Starting point is 00:41:39 No, like the warming, like when you are out, like. Oh my God, the warming tray. Yeah, a warming tray was a grill on top of it. that has like a single start fire at the bottom and then you throw it away. These are definitely illegal here. No shot you feel like to have that here. Yeah, that is a very different thing. It looks like you can buy them on Amazon, but I've never heard or seen anybody use one of these.
Starting point is 00:42:05 No, no, no, no. I would say that, like, desensitized growing up, I would say that's how I am with earthquakes. And that's also because nobody my age, born in Raised in California, California has lived through a California earthquake that, like, is like the ones that we read about. So, like, it is very easy to get desensitized to these, like, smaller earthquakes in California because California has such a huge history with earthquakes that you learn about them in school. You do all of these drills and you do all of this stuff. But we've actually never lived through one of the ones they write in textbooks, people my age.
Starting point is 00:42:41 So that I would say I find is easier to get desensitized to. And also because everyone talks about how, like, oh, the big one's kind of. coming. The big one's coming. If I actually look into earthquakes, that shit is really, really fucking scary. But like that is one I would say I is more likely to be desensitized to because it's like a concept of something that like we don't, we experience the small version of it so often. And you hear about the big one. But if you've been feeling these since you were born, it doesn't, it doesn't really compute the range and the scale of like what it actually means. Fire is fire. Like fire is fire point blank.
Starting point is 00:43:17 I don't know anybody who's like desensitized to that regardless of where you live in, where you grow up. California does not have, no offense. And this is a general statement. California does not have the same mentality to wildfires that I would say like Floridians have to hurricanes. Like they're not like, oh, we're just still going to go out. It'll still be fine. Whatever. Like, let's catch some whatever it is like that this is going to be or even like some places that have tornadoes when they're like,
Starting point is 00:43:46 oh, tornado chasing. Like this will be fun. Like, that's not, like, fire is just, like, fundamentally different. Like, fire is fucking fire. How big or how small. It's fire. Like, it's, it is scary all the time. And I think I should be more prepared.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Their knife time has passed that I can say this. But there was a day that we were recording the podcast and a house across the street from me was on fire. And, like, we had to keep pausing. And I was packing a go bag and, like, didn't know if it was going to jump. because it wasn't directly across the street, but like, I can see the whole thing from the window. And it was like, we don't know how much it's going to spread and all of that stuff. So, like, I was preparing, doing all of that while we were recording an episode. And, like, that is really scary.
Starting point is 00:44:31 But I've only ever had one big scare with it personally, which was the big fires last year. And it's horrible. Like, it, like, emotionally wrecks you. And I think the only way to feel, quote, unquote, normal about it is to feel, feel prepared. And the only way to feel prepared is truly just to like know where your things are, know what things you'd grab and like know what's important to you because I certainly feel more prepared now than I did last year when we had to grab our shit. But yeah, I think like you just have to have a go bag and like know what you'd grab. And I think I also feel more prepared because
Starting point is 00:45:09 like I've already had that panic once. I'm not saying I wouldn't have that panic again. But I don't even, I think even if I had a go bag, I would have still felt, I still had the same, like, emotional reaction that I did. But it's scary. And there's also, like, the thing I would say growing up here, like, I'm, like, I'm, like incredibly aware of, like, fire risk and fire safety. So, like, there are houses that we toured to buy that I was like, no, we're not paying an offer in them. It's like, great. And I was like, nope, fire. Fire. Like, and there are so many rules that a lot of houses don't adhere to based on having, like, I think it's like, five. to 30 feet of concrete around your perimeter of your home before there's vegetation and all that kind of stuff. But I'm like adamant about it or even places like that one way up, one way down for fire trucks and all that. And that's how I grew up. And like that is that is something that's scary. And so there's decisions that you make when you're more informed about it. And so I think in that case, like knowledge is power, but also understanding that like you can't do anything about fire. Like when fire is happening, it's just, it's just, it's.
Starting point is 00:46:15 happening. Yeah, I had never really experienced it until last year when it happened, because there's been fires, but they've always been very far away, not to the point where I'm seeing like ash falling from the sky. And I was very just like when all that was happening, I was very locked in and paying attention. And I will say that like now there's been fires happening. There haven't been as close, but on the apps, we have an app. that, like, tells us when a fire is happening. But I've gotten desensitized to that, and I've talked about it here on the podcast, too,
Starting point is 00:46:51 because a lot of times it'll be, like, somebody's sending a fire on the corner, and it's, like, been making the tacos that they sell on the corner. So, like, in that sense, I have gotten desensitized, but I think, like, when, keep in mind how close they are to you, because those are the ones, if you are paying attention to all of them,
Starting point is 00:47:10 then it will, like, make it so that you're too consumed with it. But when it's close, like, I always have a go back prepared. I always have filters. Like, it's been better for my breathing period, just to always have that running anyway. But always making sure that I'm, I'm ready to go if need be to go. But also, like, if it's, you know, 50 miles away, that doesn't impact. That is close, but that doesn't impact me. So I shouldn't be paying as much attention to it because it will make me too sensitive to it. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's a good point because I think there's there's a level of like being aware and then there's a level of like blissfully ignorant and you have to find the middle ground between that because you shouldn't and nobody should like go outside when the air quality is bad from a fire.
Starting point is 00:48:02 Like that should be something like, okay, I'm staying inside. Even if it's not close as a threat to you or anything like that, but it's not like, oh, life goes on normally when this is happening. but then simultaneously if you are caught up on every aspect of everything, unless you have an incredible sense of geography, like, it will feel really scary. And this is like such a practical advice too, but like always look at multiple different maps for that because where we went for this wedding, I was told it was going to be Big Sur, which is where all this, these fires are. And if you look on a map, it looks right next to it. It's not. It's like, 58 miles away where we were. But just being aware of all of those things. And it is obviously very
Starting point is 00:48:48 scary and horrible. But I think part of the reason why I feel more mentally prepared than I did before is like when fire is that close, when there is smoke everywhere, the sky is orange. Like it's like really like that. You're not really worried about your things. You're worried about dying not to be like so dark. But in that moment when it becomes like, that scary. All of the things that you worry about of being like, oh my God, I couldn't imagine losing my home and all my things. Totally. That is like a very fair, horrible thing. But like people die. Like this is, it is really that serious. And so that's not to make you more anxious, but it's just one of those things like your adrenaline just kicks in. Like your body just knows
Starting point is 00:49:30 how to act and knows how to function. So you can do whatever you can to be prepared. But like, if something were to happen, then that's what it is. But also feel free to yell at people. for using those little janky pop-up barbecues. I, as everyone was talking about the fires and we were talking about my current special interest, which is the Super El Nino, I was ranting to everybody who I just met, who talked about chat and I said, stop using AI. This is why everything's getting fucking worse so quickly. And I had someone who I told him that he needed to stop using chat GBT this week,
Starting point is 00:50:04 send me an article about the Super El Nino. And it also talks about the effects that AI has had on our weather patterns. And I was like, there you go. And I was instructing his wife of what to tell all of that stuff. So like, you don't have to like just like let people make stupid decisions. They can still choose to make the stupid decision. You're more than welcome to tell them that that's stupid and high risk. You know?
Starting point is 00:50:25 Like I would never, ever, oh my God, could never be around someone. If someone's smoking like a cigarette in a car or a cigarette in the woods, like anything like that, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Or even like, you know, my thing. people who plug their vapes into walls into the USB. That I go, that's also, that's a hazard. And it's also just gross. You're sucking on a USB.
Starting point is 00:50:48 Like crazy. You put that thing in your computer and then in your mouth. Ugh. Yuck. Yuck. So, yeah. It's tough, though. I fuck climate change, you know?
Starting point is 00:51:07 All right. Somebody asked me, somebody always asked me to talk about the X-Men casting. I was curious what your thoughts were. Yeah. Here's the thing. I haven't seen anything that most of the people have been in. So I can't speak on their acting abilities. Judge a book by its cover. Right. I can't speak on their acting abilities. But like people are concerned about like heights of people. And I'm like in Hollywood, most people are short. Like you're not going to get a whole bunch of actresses that are six feet tall. Like it's just not going to happen. So like. Yes, in the comics, they're supposed to be six feet tall women.
Starting point is 00:51:47 It's just not going to happen. But height-wise, they're the right, like, proportionally to each other. They're the right height. So it will look fine. Who the fuck cares? They don't have a measuring tape. You're not going to know on camera that that person's not six feet tall. Right.
Starting point is 00:52:01 Because, like, they're not walking around with a fucking measuring tape being like this person's actually 5-11. As long as Storm is taller than everybody else, you're good. And she is. So we're fine. Yep. The other girls are around the same height. We're fine. I saw someone mad about Kit Conner and they were like, he's not tall enough.
Starting point is 00:52:20 He's supposed to be like, he's supposed to be like 6.3 and he's only 6.2. And I was like, oh, my God. You don't even know the difference between 6'3 and 6.2. So Sadie Sink as Jean Gray, again, I didn't watch. I watched the first season of Stranger Things. She was in the ones after that. No idea about her acting abilities. This was my first time seeing her.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Cool. She's got, I'm sure the casting directors were on point with this. She's been through auditions. As Jean Grey, she's got to play Jean Grey. She's got to play her clone Madeline Pryor. And she's got to play the Dark Phoenix. She's, Jean Grey dies. It's not like a, but she comes back.
Starting point is 00:53:02 Okay, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, and she's possessed by the Dark Phoenix. Madeline takes her place for a while. Nobody knows. It's a whole thing. She's a theater actor. I definitely feel like she can do all that. Right.
Starting point is 00:53:10 So as long as she could handle that, she's fine. I feel like there was possessions in stranger things. Sure. Christopher Abbott, I've actually seen him in girls. Hold up. There's two guys from girls who are in the X-Men cast. Wow. What I know about Christopher Abbott is that he couldn't stand anybody on girls, so he left
Starting point is 00:53:29 after the first season. So respect. And he's also, he's also Aubrey Plaza's boyfriend, so she's cool. So I'm guessing he's cool. Professor X. And people are like, he's too young. No, he's not because we're casting the X-Men themselves as the younger X-Men as 20-year-olds. He should be 20 years older than them.
Starting point is 00:53:48 Putting Patrick Stewart and gave people a false perception of how old that Professor X should be. No, he's the right age. Height-wise doesn't matter because he's going to be in a wheelchair the whole time. We're good. Got it. And his head's going to be bald. He has a big head, so I guess we'll be fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Yeah, a lot of real estate. Yeah. Samar weaving as Emma Frost. Emma Frost just walks around giving Kunt, and I feel like that's what she is. Yeah. But like all she has to do is give Kunt and hold her forehead and hand out. We'll be fine.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Yeah. Kit Connor and know nothing about this man. He's playing Cyclops. I know this is a controversial statement, but I cannot stand Cyclops. He's such a like Boy Scout. Wait, which one? I'm trying to remember. But he's the leader of the X-Men.
Starting point is 00:54:39 He always has sunglasses on. So as long as he's wearing sunglasses and can walk around and being a goodie two shoes, we're fine. He also looks like a Boy Scout. Yeah. Kit Connor. The most controversial, quote unquote, is indie Narvette as rogue. And people are so, there's like, she just doesn't have the right look. She doesn't have the right look.
Starting point is 00:55:03 Why? Because she's half Mexican. Mm-hmm. Look at this girl's face. She looks like the animated version in the animated series. It's the exact same face. That's what I thought. I was trying to figure out.
Starting point is 00:55:15 She has the exact same face. I don't know how much. And Rogue is my favorite character of the X-Made. Like, from what I've seen, and also Rogue has to be, because of her power, she just puts her hands on people and can take their powers. Like all of them, she, as far as like, which we didn't, I think they're going to, if they're going to do this, it's going to have to just be a new iteration. But Captain Marvel, before she becomes Captain Marvel,
Starting point is 00:55:43 Rogue takes all her powers and puts her in a coma for years. And so that's why Rogue can fly and do things. Ooh. So, like, so, like, she also has to be able to take on when she temperate, if she just does a quick touch and temporarily takes on somebody's powers, because sometimes, like, people will be in the fights, and she's like, I can just grab their powers and then go defeat this guy. So when she does that, she also takes on their personality.
Starting point is 00:56:11 And I guess an obsession, haven't seen it. She's possessed. Goes back and forth between personality types. So as long as she can do that, she'll be fine. Slap a red wig and some white streaks on her. I think she's going to be a perfect robe. Well, I'm also confused because then everybody's like, but she's nothing like Anna Pacquin.
Starting point is 00:56:30 And so take in mind, I looked at the Indy Navaretti casting. And then I looked at the comic and I go, that's totally fine. But it's nothing like Anna Pacwin. I go, why is Anna Pacquine the conversation? Anna Pacquine looks nothing like the comic as I was looking at that. But they're like, oh, there are people who they are picking a specific cast of X-Men that they essentially want, they want that cast to stay the same. And they want these people to play the younger versions. And then they want it to continue on with that original cast.
Starting point is 00:56:55 And I was like, oh, this is weird then. It doesn't work like that anymore because of where, how the story's gone. It can't do that anymore. Yeah. And also that people are like, well, she, she can't. can't do a southern accent. I'm like, how do you know she can't do a southern accent? The most famous version of rogue's voice that we hear is from the animated series. That's who everybody loves. That woman is an Australian Canadian. If she can do a southern accent, I'm sure this
Starting point is 00:57:23 Australian Mexican woman can do an accent too. Is she Australian? Her mom is from Australia. Her dad's Mexican, but they're from America. You mix any bit of Australian in that person, you'll do some crazy accents. Right. Yeah. Yeah. They got that weird. They know about those tongue placements. Yeah. So anybody that's saying she just doesn't have the right look, blah, blah, blah. They're just being racist. Yeah. And it's crazy because she's like by far like the one to, like everybody's been talking about what she'd been like been doing. And I feel bad for her because I am worried that the fan boy, and I specifically mean boy, obsession over her from this movie is going to make everyone be like, oh my God, she's so overexposed. We're seeing her too much, all of this kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:58:04 they have expectations of what they want her to be exactly. And part of it also feels like they want to keep her locked in a bag. Like she needs to be for them. Like this is too big. She's too famous. And like even though she's not famous, like she's just this, she's above this. She would never do something like this. I'm like, this is so weird in parissocial and racist.
Starting point is 00:58:25 And then they were also saying, well, she said she wanted to play mystique. Mystique is rog's adopted mother. Mystique needs to be at least 40 years old. Mistique is also a deadbeat who has thrown one of her kids off a cliff, but he's survived because he was too blue. One of her kids turned to essentially Donald Trump. She said you're too blue and then she throws him? Yeah, and she's also blue.
Starting point is 00:58:50 She's all blue too, but she can change her body to be whoever she wants him to be. Oh, this one's baby, baby blue all the time. Yes, Kurt. Kurt. A.K. Nightcrawling. Why the fuck would you be named Mistique and then you have a baby and you go, I think that baby should be named Kurt? What?
Starting point is 00:59:04 That's crazy. Don't know. And so like she's too young. So it wouldn't have worked anyway when she had said that a while ago. So it doesn't make sense. Misty need to be at least 40 years old. Mm-hmm. At least.
Starting point is 00:59:18 And then Maya Boydus Storm, I think you sent me the videos of her singing. No. No, it wasn't her? No, not her. No. But I might have sent you her singing too. Okay. I thought it was a couple of people.
Starting point is 00:59:32 I've heard her sing. Yeah. She can sing. So I might have sent you one of those. But that's not the one that I would send you obsessively. Okay. So Storm gives long soliloquies before she says her power. She's very dramatic. So we need a dramatic actress. So she'll be great. I've seen her sing. She'll be great. I love, I will say that like now that I've seen my first X-Men, I think, and maybe Patrick Stewart should have started this trend. I think casting theater actors for this level of camp is a great. call. Like, it is such a, like, a full body level, like, performance. And I think you, these movies should be campy. Because, like, point blank, like, the. I don't necessarily agree
Starting point is 01:00:15 that she should be campy. I don't, I don't like the live action versions of them. Yeah. Because they're, they, one, they don't, they nerve all the women. They should be way stronger than they are. It's not campy per se because, like, the Avengers of the cops, the X-Men are more like, like they're built around civil rights. That's the thing. Like if you think about Magneto, he's more like a Malcolm X type. Professor X is more like a Martin Luther King. Their whole thing is because mutants, they're born with their abilities as opposed to the ventures.
Starting point is 01:00:48 They usually go through something. Some of the ventures are mutants like Scarlet Witch is a mutant. She's Magneto's daughter. But like, whoa. Yeah. I'm learning so much. So and her and P.HO like, you know, they're. twins. They, they're his
Starting point is 01:01:05 children that he also is a deadbeat and abandons his kids all the time or like makes them evil, but they haven't been able to do the crossover because they didn't have, where they could do some of the rights with Magneto in the Fox where they couldn't, they could bring
Starting point is 01:01:21 Scarlet Witch over, but they couldn't bring her over in the X-Men. Because she should be, that's where she should be is with the X-Men. That's interesting. Yeah. If it's done correctly, it's shouldn't necessary, like it should be more like this is when people are like the X-Men have gone woke, then they don't know anything about the X-Men.
Starting point is 01:01:42 Yeah, no, because Avengers are cops. Yeah. But like I think for me, maybe Campy's not the right word, maybe like big or theatrical. Like I, so like we were re-watching a lot of the Marvel movies and like my biggest complaint with like a lot of the, a lot of Marvel movies is they just make it like it's fucking Dunkirk. Like they just make it like it's a regular like war. movie. And in the sense, I'm like, no, if you're wearing these, like, if you've got like fire
Starting point is 01:02:07 coming out of your hair, I don't want this to just be like, oh, this is an everyday world. Like, I want this to look like, I want to look grand. And so like, then I look at things like Thor 1 versus Thor Ragnarok. Like the colors are there. Like, it just feels more opulent and like not even just like doesn't look like wealthy aesthetically, but it just looks like more artistic vision in there. And it's not just like a Tom Cruise action movie that happens to have hair. flying in the wind and people who fly and like cool colored like all of that stuff like I want there to be like a stylized version of that and like I think I mean it's maybe unpopular but like when everyone's like oh this is just this is the real world and it's these superheroes and these people exist exactly in the real world but then
Starting point is 01:02:52 they have them act exactly like every other human in the movie and then they just snap and then they have these powers or whatever yeah but that does make sense for Avengers because they get their powers later in life. It doesn't make sense for the X-Men. No. And so the X-Men that I watched, I was like, oh, this is without a doubt, like, very, this, that one was more campy, but it was just like, it was theatrical. And I, and I like that aspect of it, especially when, like, they're supposed to be so, quote, unquote, different than the humans. And, like, you can spot. And when they are humans, though, they just were born with a mutation. So in, in the movie, when they're being, when they're, they feel tricked because someone's a mutant and they didn't know. And they're like,
Starting point is 01:03:32 I should have been able to spot it from like a mile away. And that whole thing, I'm like, oh, having someone who's like, you can do that total shift of being like, oh, this is a completely different person. I always think of theater actors where I go, you don't have CGI. You literally just have like a wig and a like a hoop skirt and you've become a completely different person. And like the way you walk and carry yourself and all that. And I think, yeah, a time for theater actors to really really fucking go for it, especially in the physicality. It's the same thing with dancers. And I know you don't like this man.
Starting point is 01:04:05 Oh, my God. Don't say it. That's why he was good in the part, though. You know, hey, I have to eat my words. And the thing is, is that Wolverine himself is supposed to be like 5'3, and you've got this like 6 foot thing. I don't know how tall that man is, like 6-2. But like Wolverine's supposed to be this little hunched-over man.
Starting point is 01:04:26 And he's also not supposed to be Australian. Wolverine's from Canada. Like... I'm sorry, he does the Australian accent as Wolverine. I don't remember actually. It's been so, I don't, I really like, you like animated. Watch the animated series.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Yeah, I will. I told Motz about it. You want to watch it now. Even if you start, if you start at the original ones from the 90s, it's going to be a little bit more. It's 90s animation, so it's a little different. Okay. But, like, the emotional arcs of these, like, you are crying,
Starting point is 01:04:54 even though, like, they are meant for kids. They're, like, storylines, like, they were like they had to pull back on. as when we pick back up and it's the X-Men 97 that picked up a couple years ago, they're leaning more into it because, like I told you, they're shifted because they're like, our audience is still those millennials. We're not catering to children anymore. The storylines are so deep and powerful. And that's why I'm saying, like, they shouldn't be camping.
Starting point is 01:05:23 And I don't think they're going in the way of camp for these. Do you think the women are going to be better? I think so. They have to be. You have to be. Because doing my Marvel rewatch, it is motherfucking painful as I'm like watching some of these early ones. And knowing that like, for one, I love the Black Widow movie. I think it was so deeply underrated.
Starting point is 01:05:46 It was a great movie. But watching every other fucking depiction of her in these earlier films, I'm like, oh my God, you didn't even write anything for her. Like she's just made it. She's like there to be high. Hot. Like that's it. And I, and when watching X-Men, the Jennifer Luey films. Lawrence went for the first time, I was like, why the fuck do we keep following these dumb,
Starting point is 01:06:05 these fucking boys around? Like, I was so much more interested, like, just at off-rip, the female characters were so much more interesting. They are. Immediately. And so I was like, that made me hopeful that, like, we didn't know that Natasha Romanoff was interesting at all for, like, a long time. But, like, again, off-rip, the women are much more interesting in X-Men. And so I was like, oh, hopefully this means that that will be shown. there more because as I was looking at it, I like forgot some of the, when you were talking about Cyclops and I was like, was he in the movie, I watched, he was. Yes.
Starting point is 01:06:37 Did it? Forgettable. Yeah. Forgetable. The women, not forgettable. No. And if they actually let them have their powers, like Storm is an Omega, like she is one of the strongest ones.
Starting point is 01:06:51 Jean Grey, I usually, and most of the series, they always nerve her. She is one of the most powerful things. And that's why a lot of times, because she's like, painting all the time. Like, why are she fainting? Like, stand up. There's no reason. You're the most powerful person. Yes. But like the X-Men, one thing about the X-Men is though, like, when they use their powers, they do get tired, which does, that's something that I feel like is missing from the Avengers sometimes. It's like they're just, they just keep going. And with supply. Yeah. They got that vibranium. Right. And then lastly, like, Adam Driver, I think he's great. Like,
Starting point is 01:07:27 as far as Mr. Sinister, who is somebody that has been torturing Scott when he was a child and, like, stole his powers. Like, he is the, like, he literally, like, made, or Cyclops's DNA and Gene's DNA to make, like, the perfect child from their DNA. I think that Adam Driver would do a great job with Mr. Sinister. I hope they don't give him the jaggedy teeth because that's just scary. He has teeth that are like trying. No, like venom. I don't like that. Yes.
Starting point is 01:08:02 I don't fuck with that at all. So I hope they don't do it. But like he has this like swagger to him that Adam Driver will be perfect for. So who's Magneto? Do we not know yet? We don't know. Even if we have him, we don't know. But like we've got to make Magneto with something I feel like in X-Men they made them like in the series.
Starting point is 01:08:27 that we've seen or the movies that we've seen. They lean more into like brotherhood and there needs to be a little like they're fucking each other undertones to it. Magneto and who? And Professor X. Oh. Professor X is more like we need to blend in and like let them know that we are with the rest. Like we're human.
Starting point is 01:08:49 We're with the rest of the humans. Yeah. We have to humanize ourselves and make them show we're not a threat. Whereas Magneto is like no. Blow this whole system up. Yeah. like we're we do have special powers like this is who we are this is what we are and we shouldn't be trying to cave to them so they have they both want the same things but just different magnetos more by any means necessary he's more like training like professor x trains them with cerebro and like goes through these things we're more like magnetos like i need to torture you so that like you can be stronger so is it bad that when I watched the movie, I was definitely more of a Magneto?
Starting point is 01:09:29 No, most people are. Okay, I was curious that that was, what was the popular opinion? No, most people. Professor X was, I was like, okay. Like, I get tired of Professor X. Yeah, I was getting tired. I was, yeah, that to me may be like, I know that we're on the same page, but I was like, how do other people feel?
Starting point is 01:09:50 So then we don't have new Mag. No, Adam Driver is Magneto? No, we don't have new MacDito. We don't have McNino. Okay. I'm curious who that's going to be because like no offense to Michael Fastbender, again, couldn't pick that man out of the lineup. Anytime I hear Michael Fastbender, I just think giant penis because in that one movie,
Starting point is 01:10:10 he just had his big penis out. Oh. I don't even know what movie it was, but like it was a joke. It was a joke for a long time of like how big his penis is. Yeah. And you big whip it out. Is that Michael Fastbender or is that someone else? Right.
Starting point is 01:10:22 Because I will say Sam Rockwell has recently transitioned into I know. who that man is, but it only counts if it's Sam Rockwell in the last five years. If it's Sam Rockwell in anything before five years ago or a large transformation, I can't, I can't figure out who that is. But I'm curious who they'll have. So Magneto's supposed to be the same age as like Adam Driver, would you say it's that age? Yeah. It's not Sadie Sank age. No. He, him and, him and Professor X were like friends coming up. They should be the same age. And we have Professor X, who's the other guy from girls? Okay. So we need someone who's that age. Do you have a someone who you would be interested in? Or do you want someone new? Yeah. I'm, I, I just want to be surprised. I want to trust the
Starting point is 01:11:05 process. What would you do if it's like Timothy Shalomey? Jacob. He's too young. Okay. How old is he's too young? He's too much. If he's as old as Sam Rockwell, could it be, Sam Rockwell would never, unless he can dance. Sam Rockwell's too old. Okay, I don't know how any of old these people are. He needs to be like 40. Okay. male actors in their 40s. Andrew Garfield. He would have been a professor. He would be fine.
Starting point is 01:11:29 I just think he would confuse people. Yeah, he's too sweet. He's too, like, he gives me like appease vibes, not blow it up. Oh, my God. If it's Henry Cavill, and I already thought Michael Fastbender was, Henry Cavill. Ooh, Eddie Redmayne. He's a little scrawny, though. No, he needs to be bigger.
Starting point is 01:11:45 Rami Malick. He's just small, too. Do you like a spooky? Okay. And also, I don't know what the backstory is going to be, too. because, like, they can't do World War II now. Like, it's too late in the... Oh, because they brought Gene Gray.
Starting point is 01:12:00 Because it's present. It's the same Gene Gray time period. You think that we saw her in Spider-Man? Mm-hmm. Okay, yeah. So then you're right. It's going to be much more present day. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:10 Huh. Joseph Gordon Levitt. Jason Schwartzman. Hmm. Tony Shalube. I'm on a Reddit post where someone's like, I'm trying to remember this male actor in their 40s. And so I've just looked at that to be like, who's that?
Starting point is 01:12:24 Who is in their 40s? Does he have to be white? Depends on what they do with it. Because like if it was World War II, then yeah, he would have to be a white Jewish man. But like I don't know what the story is going to be. Has it mostly been that? Mm-hmm. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:12:40 So do you think the likelihood is they will do that? I think, no, it's going to have to be different. So maybe obviously different. Like very clearly not at the same type. Yeah. Huh. But then you have to think about who's not. In contracts.
Starting point is 01:12:53 What if it's your guy? Who? Blondie. Glenn Powell. No, he's got to be evil. Goodness, too. Yeah, he's got that, he's got that sweet face. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:13:04 He has to be evil, too? What do you... Not evil, but he just needs to be dark. Like, he has to have a dark side to him. What do you think about a man who's enjoyed portraying a lizard who loved eating pussy? Who? Also, how many people, how many movies have we watched where there's a man, who disguised himself as a man who's actually this like serpent demon lizard creature who loves eating pussy.
Starting point is 01:13:27 What the fuck are you talking about? What's that? There's only one movie where a demon wants to eat pussy. Eats pussy till they die. Oh. I just, for optics wise, I don't think. I don't, just optics as far as like having a black man do this part, I don't think it makes sense. Oh, that's, okay, I thought that's what you were saying, like, total opposite from before.
Starting point is 01:13:49 Okay. So just not still still in the white. Yeah. Okay. Because I was about to say someone who can play like a little twisted, I was like, well, he did. He could do it. But like I just don't, optics wise, I don't think it looks right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:06 That makes sense. If I don't know the story well enough. Well, I, yeah, I wonder. Because it can't be anyone who's actively in Marvel right now. So it can't be like Tom Hiddleston. Who the fucks Josh Harnett? Josh Hartnett is too old. But he was a huge actor when I was younger.
Starting point is 01:14:27 What about Robert Pattinson? He could do it. He can truly that man can do anything. He could do it. And he loves it. He loves, if they're going to promise him that it can be a little twisted, yeah, I mean, Magneto has to be twisted because it has to be different from Perfector X. So, yeah, he could do it.
Starting point is 01:14:46 That's fine. even though he calls himself a Gen Z actor, but he could do it. There's specifically this one line delivery of him in The Odyssey where he says, get these beggars out of here. And it's like the way he delivered. It's like, it literally gives you like, ooh. Yeah. Even him playing Chris Hanson.
Starting point is 01:15:05 Oh my God. I showed the trailer to Mons. He goes, that's not Robert Panson. I go, it is. And he goes, there's no way. Who's doing the voiceover? I go, Robert Pants. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:11 Like this man, he did Twilight. And he says, I actually love a freaky little movie. Put me in every freaky little movie doing every freaky little movie thing. Whoever made this list on IMDB needs to redo it because a lot of these people are in their 50s now. That was the list I was looking at that you kept saying they were too old. Then I'm pivoted off it. Oh, you know who hasn't been anything in a while who's actually quite a good actor? I mean, quite a good actor.
Starting point is 01:15:34 Duh. Paul Dano. I don't even know who that is. You do, you do, you do. Look him up. I don't know who this man is. You've seen him and think. You've never seen Little Miss San John?
Starting point is 01:15:44 Yeah, but I don't remember that. also, by the way, in fact, not who I was thinking of. No, it is. Dumb Money. He's in Dumb Money because I was like, it wasn't popping up in one of his top credits. Yeah, I haven't seen Dumbody. You got to see it. You know, who directed it. The same man who directed the T-Mobile, Beyonce, Gary from Veep commercial. He's good. But yeah, I've got, James Marston couldn't do it because he's in one of the other ones, right? Well, he is Cyclops. Oh, okay. That's what I was like, isn't he? He's Cyclops.
Starting point is 01:16:13 Yeah. Well, hey, we're about to have Robert Downey Jr. play a day. Different character in Marvel. As long as it's not Jason Momoa. Keep Jason. Like, I don't want to get invested in a series, like be so excited for something. And then to absolutely like torpedo it by casting like Jason Mamoa. And then who else is, whose vision?
Starting point is 01:16:33 Paul Bettney. I'm like, I'm not about to fucking. Yeah. Don't ruin it for me before you even start it. So many people are just like, R&E in Marvel. It's hard to do. Yeah. And because of doomsday, they're bringing people back, too.
Starting point is 01:16:48 So it's like there's more, there's even more of that specifically. Yeah. Rest in peace, hidden pan and tear. Oh my God. Yeah. I gasped. I couldn't believe that it was. I couldn't either because I was just waking up from one of my medicine things to take the next round.
Starting point is 01:17:18 And I was like, what the fuck? Devastating. And I hate. hate the people who are like being like, oh, conspiracy theory, she was, all of this kind of stuff as opposed to. Stop. I'm blocking anybody I come across that has any conspiracy theory. I just block automatically. It just makes me so frustrated because like it feels like that's part of the reason why there's still such a stigma around drug use and like addiction and everything like that because people don't want to use, they don't want to view that as like a very common
Starting point is 01:17:47 coping mechanism with trauma. And as opposed to it, it goes, no, no, no, this never, never that, this person was killed instead. And it's like, no, people who have gone through horrible things have had really hard, horrible lives. They do things to help them get through their everyday life. And like at this time, at this age where we're at in the world, like, it is not, you cannot really survive long term doing drugs. It's just, it's just you can't anymore. You used to be able to. And like it just isn't, the drugs aren't like that anymore. And like, yeah, it makes me, it makes me sad. And it's the same thing I think about hearing people talk with the Lindsay Clancy trial. I think there's ways to talk about mistreatment and abuse and all of these
Starting point is 01:18:25 other aspects of it. But like if you just rule everything out as a conspiracy theory, as opposed to like someone who's like told you that they're suffering mental health and like substance wise, yeah, it makes it so like that can never be true. It still feels like purity culture of like they would never do X, Y, and Z. And so yeah, I just, I'm reading everything that everyone has said about her. It's like so lovely. I've loved her since I was like a child. She's been everything.
Starting point is 01:18:54 She was on One Life to Live. Mm-hmm. No, no, no. Guiding Light. She was on Guiding Light, but I don't watch a Guiding Light. Oh. But she was also on, it was One Life to Live, too. And so I've seen her.
Starting point is 01:19:07 Yeah. And then, you know, the football movie. Remember the Titans? Mm-hmm. I almost said Clash of the Titans. That's that motherfucking game that those apps that always does. And she's from my favorite and the best, objectively, bring it on movie. It's not the best, but the most can't be.
Starting point is 01:19:24 No, the original is the best. You can't say that. Unfortunately, like, I have held the belief since I was a child that I prefer the second one. Which I know if you, if I look at it in terms of like quality filmmaking, I know that I am not in the majority opinion. But like, there is something about bring it on to. I've watched Bring It On Two more than any other Bring It I. but you know me, I'm a Rihanna fucking Stan. I love that they green-screened her in.
Starting point is 01:19:52 Like, I love everything about that movie. The second one was my favorite. Sorry, sorry. Mott's just shocked too. Mons was like, I can't ever watch this again. And I go, really? I used to watch this like once a week. I love this fucking movie.
Starting point is 01:20:02 So it's very sad. And I love to see Neutrigina getting dragged again for this. Yeah. You know the racist girl in that Bring It On? Yeah. They played the same character on Guiding Light. No way. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:20:18 Wow. That's funny. Yeah. So small. I could totally see that too, though. Like looks-wise, especially younger. Yeah, that makes sense to me. She played the racist girl played the older version and then Payton was younger.
Starting point is 01:20:33 But when they were, it was just different at different time periods in their lives. Oh, wow. Yeah. So when they aged her up, then she became the other girl. So small of a fucking world. That's crazy. Chadwick Bozeman and Michael B. Jordan played the same character on all my children. Huh. Did someone play a man to say free too or no? She was never as locked in on that.
Starting point is 01:20:56 Yeah. She was the... She was a girlfriend, right? There wasn't a younger version of that one. Even though Chadwick is older. It's just when Chadwick left, then Michael came. And they briefly met but didn't even realize it until much later. Wow. Yeah. Damn. That's so interesting. But yeah, I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the movie Ice Princess Ever Again,
Starting point is 01:21:21 even though I love that fucking movie. Yeah. Oh my God. Devastating. Absolutely motherfucking devastating. I literally, when I was a child, I thought I was hearing the spy. Like I had everything. I had all the books I read, watched the movie all over again. So Michelle Chacteberg has been a big part of my life.
Starting point is 01:21:39 Yeah. No. No, so sad. So fucking. sad. Horribly, horribly fucking sad. So, yeah, we hope you guys enjoyed this episode. And hopefully next time, Melissa's on a little bit less drugs and you're feeling a lot better. Hopefully. Yeah. Fingers are crossed. Got to get this x-ray. Got to get that chest raid. Yep. All right.
