Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome to Doomed to Fail. I'm Taylor and along with my co-host Farrs, we bring you history's most notorious disasters and epic failures. We have over 200 episodes and I wanted to give you a couple that have the same theme. So we have a small group this week that I'm going to highlight for you, but these are stories about animals. And we have three episodes that specifically are about animals and we start with episode 47 about the passenger pigeon. So when the Europeans first came to the United States area, there were so many passenger pigeons and think like a pigeon, just think like a pigeon, but a little bit longer neck than like the ones you see at Home Depot. You know what I mean. And they were so, there was just so many
Starting point is 00:00:49 of them. I can't even explain it. And I can't even really picture it myself. But there were billions. They would flock over your house and they, you, they would, they would, they would, out the sun for an hour. There were so many of them. And we just killed them and ate them and used their feathers into absolute extinction. And there aren't anymore. The last one was named Martha. She died like 100 years ago. So that's wild. And then episode 179 is about Hachiko. And if you are a dog person, you would know. This is the story of the dog in Japan whose owner went to work and did not come home. And the dog went to the train station every day waiting for them to come back. It is a movie called Hotchik.
Starting point is 00:01:30 with Richard Gear, and I only laugh because we tease my mom about loving that movie, because you know, moms, they love Richard Gear, and they love, they love, they love Hachi and Hachico. So that's episode 179. And then a recent episode, episode 215, was about whale entrapment. So Farras tells us a story about a couple of very specific times that whales get stuck in like a part of the ice where they can breathe, but then they can't get out and they cannot move any further, and the ice is sort of trapping them. It's called whale entrapment.
Starting point is 00:01:59 That's what it is. So look up those three episodes. Anywhere you listen to podcasts, wherever you're listening right now, just use a search. Or on YouTube, we are there as well. Thank you so much for listening. And if you have any questions or ideas or, like, I don't know, other animal stories, I'm super interested in megafauna. Did I say that out loud already?
Starting point is 00:02:17 I really want to know about giant animals. So, yeah, any ideas, any suggestions, let us know. Doomedafilpod at gmail.com. do you put to fill a pod on all the socials and i'll talk to you soon thanks
