This is Dale Jr., and you're listening to Dirty Moe Radio.
Side, door, bumper, clear of the 18th.
Best car I had here in a long time.
You're going to do it.
You're going to win it.
Right with you.
You're clear.
Check the flag.
You're win.
Hey, everybody.
I'm T.J. Major's.
Spotter the 88 Cup car, 7X-Finity and the 29 truck.
And alongside of me today.
Brett Griffin, Spotter for Elliot Sadler and Clint Boyer.
Thanks to One Main for presenting our show.
And I'm going to kick it to our final.
co-host.
Next on stage.
Hey guys, it's KB.
What's up?
We don't have stages.
We have couches.
We do have couches.
That's so boring.
Hey guys.
Chris and I have a love seat and you have a chair.
I, that's the director's chair.
Brett and I have more room to spread out.
Yeah.
Oh, that's nice.
All right.
Oh, man.
So, we're all comfy.
We got to also thank Exalta for sponsoring the studio and having this awesome backdrop and allowing us a place to
spread out and sit in chairs and talk to you guys.
Yeah.
And clearly because of door bumper clear, Exaltor Racing has reached
and past 20,000 followers on Twitter.
That was probably all us, right?
Yep.
So that means now for step two,
everyone needs to go to Pocono Raceway.com backslash exalta giveaway
and fill out the form to officially enter for your chance to win $88,000
if Dale Jr. wins the Exalta 400 at Pocono on June 5th.
Free money.
Free money.
That's a lot of free money.
Go to a website. You're already on your phone.
Yeah. I'm already filling it out.
That's what I'm doing.
Brett has entered the contest.
Yes.
So a little, today later in the show, we're going to give a call to Matt Kansas spotter, Chris Osborne,
who had a rough off season there and came back.
His family's all recovering from injuries, suffered in a car crash,
a pretty severe car crash.
And it was his first trip back to Victory Lane,
so it's kind of fitting that he'll, you know,
I think we should have him on as a first guest from the show.
I think so, too. I mean, Chris is a feel-good story for us. Probably this will be the biggest win of the year as far as the Spotter community goes. As T.J. said, he was hit head-on by a drunk driver. The media has highlighted some of the struggles. He missed the beginning of the season because of his leg injury. His wife was in the hospital for a long time. His son was in the hospital for several days. So a very, very, very good feeling for all of us, the Spotter community to be able to congratulate Chris.
Yeah, he's become a good friend of mine too
And honestly, it's kind of shown the difference
I've seen the performance improve
Since he's been back as well
So that's something good for them
And you know, it shows you how important a spotter can be
To a team and a driver
So what about Dover?
Dover, man
Did you hit anything?
It was crazy
Did you hit anything?
I don't think so
I think I made it through unscathed
That's what happens when you're 37th
Yeah, we are 37th.
I tell you, man, and I think we're going to talk about the wreck at some point in the show, man.
But Dover put on as good over a race as I've ever seen Dover put on.
It did a really good job on Saturday in the Xfinity race and another good job on Sunday.
I thought it was a good race as well.
I know some of the drivers don't like it.
It's getting rough and, you know.
Winer's.
I know.
That's kind of what I was thinking.
I mean, the racing's good.
It's hard.
the guy, they mess up a lot.
They miss the bottom, guys underneath them.
I like that part of the race.
It's cool because they got to really be, really be on their game
and not make mistakes to give the other guy the free air on the bottom.
I was worried about the tire coming out of Kansas
because Kansas to me was the worst tire we've had all year,
and I based that on how fast the cars were going through the center of the corner.
These guys don't pass if they're not out of the gas.
So we went into Dover, which is a super fast racetrack with a lot of banking,
which is very challenging for a good year.
because you're asking them to allow speeds to be really high and not have tire failure.
And we've seen in years past a lot of right front tire failures,
a lot of right rear tire where you just burn the tire off because you lose.
So we got there.
And in practice, I was like, man, I don't know if I'm feeling this.
Man, I'm a little worried that we got a Kansas repeat.
But that was not the case.
We saw no Green flag pit stops, which I think for the fans means you're seeing a lot of restarts.
Restarts are exciting, a lot of side-by-side racing.
Yeah, it's narrow place.
Guys make mistakes, get into each other.
and usually ends up being a good week, you know, a good race,
and that place ate a lot of race cars this week.
When I first started going to Dover, you could be five laps down at the end of the race
and still finish 16th, 17th, or 18th.
So, like, to some degree, I almost feel like we've created this,
oh, my God, racing always has to be so exciting.
Well, you know what?
It's not always exciting every week.
And Dover, I've seen boring races, and this was not a boring race.
This was one of the best overs ever put on.
It was a good one.
It was definitely good
You know, it was funny because
The four took off in the beginning
Before the track rubbered up
And was two-tenths faster than everybody
Gone
And then that track rubbed up
And he kind of evened out
And it wasn't as quick as he was
As early in the race
So he probably had a straightaway
In some change lead in 20 laps
I don't even tell Dale Jr.
His lap times
He was running so fast
We're running third
And I'm watching the four run two-tenths fast
And I'm like, good Lord
We're running within a
Within a few hundreds of everybody else
Give or take a lap
You know, would be a little faster
then the 11 below faster behind us.
That 4 was like 2 tenths faster,
two tens faster.
I'm like, good Lord.
Yeah, he was fine.
The monster wasn't ill ass.
It ate a bunch cars.
Thank God.
They didn't eat mine either day.
It ate mine.
I don't know if the monster ate it,
but Casey Mears ate the hell out of it.
Yeah, I don't know.
It was just, I guess there was oil on the bottoming.
You know, Casey didn't really do anything wrong.
He was just trying to get through the wrecking.
Yeah.
They were just wrecking.
I actually, it was like in slow motion to me
because I saw everybody go to the bottom.
We restarted.
like 20th.
Yeah.
And we were actually saving fuel to make it on that last run before the caution came out.
We were going to try to stretch it.
Yeah.
So we were already saving fuel.
And the caution came out.
We had given up about six, seven spots already, just saving fuel.
Right.
And, good Lord, man.
They all started wrecking.
And it was like slow motion.
I saw everybody go to the bottom.
And I'm like, oh, my gosh, this is awesome.
Yeah.
And I was like, go high, go high.
It's like slow motion.
And all of a sudden I see the 13 just turn right.
Yeah.
like, go, hi, are you okay?
Yeah.
It was like, it was like, everything was so awesome, and then it was not awesome.
It's been like two seconds.
I don't know why anybody at that racetrack would ever think it's a good idea to go to the bottom because...
Self-cleaning.
It's self-cleaning.
And what that means is no matter where you're at on the track, there's a high degree of banking, right?
So the straightaways at Dover have more banking than a lot of the corners at a place like Loudon, a place like Phoenix.
So everything that goes up will come down, period.
So I don't know why anybody was in a hurry to get to the bottom
because even if they saw a hole,
it's not going to be there in a split second.
So anyway, I think we're going to get into the wreck in a little bit,
but Dover did a great job, putting on a great race.
Yeah, it's good race.
It was cold as hell.
It was windy.
It was windy.
I was cold.
When the sun comes out, it would feel good.
When the sun would go behind a cloud, it'd be cold.
Clint called me a wuss.
He's like, what are you doing a bear?
I'm cold.
He's, oh, you wuzze.
I'm like, you're sitting in a d'all.
You're nice and comfy and you're a hundred-degree car.
Remind him when he's out there practicing in one of them hot tracks.
Oh, it's hot in here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Jeez.
You guys want to do some spot-on, spot-off?
Holla.
The Dover Safer Barrier, Brett.
Spot on or spot-off?
Man, it is a shame that a track in today's world doesn't have safer barriers that everywhere a car can hit.
How many times do we have to have this conversation?
before all tracks adapt and make the change.
I mean, Jamie McMurray took a gigantic hit when Danica had her gear failure issue.
You know, he hit flush off a turn 4, which means you're wide open in the gas.
And when you hit flush like that with the side of the car, it hurts.
It hurts bad.
So we saw him hit hard.
We saw the 42 car in the Xfinity series hit hard.
Carl Edwards hit hard on the backstretch down low.
You've got to make everything soft all the way around a place like that.
Do you think with the amount of crashes this race that they're going to implement the technology in the office?
I think Dover will add it.
It was the same problem at Bristol.
The problem of Dover is it's already narrow.
But Bristol was the same way, and they put it against the wall there, and we've adapted to that, and it's fine.
It's going to take the drivers a little bit.
Some guys are probably going to find it quicker than others, but we'll adapt to it, and they'll still race.
I mean, if you put a wall there, they're going to drive underneath.
it no matter what you know so I think I think it can be easily be done there's no
no real excuse nowadays for all the least the NASCAR sanctions tracks that we go to I
understand some of the short tracks that can't they can't afford to do it I mean
I'm not sure how much it would cost to do it but I can cost thing I mean Taledaga's got
five miles dover has two put put them up yeah I don't you know I think I think all
the tracks that we we actually go to and even some of the higher profile short
track should look into it and take care of their drivers because without the drivers you don't have
anything you don't have a show so yeah spot off they're not gonna pay to watch me in tj race believe it or
not well they might they won't pay much well i mean i don't know tj new arrow package coming
spot on spot off uh spot on keep trying making it better uh get us you know make the drivers
drive more in the the racing better so spot on any any changes keep trying i think we
have a responsibility here to say what this new error package is. And it's a trial and error for
this weekend only at the All-Star Race. Okay. So what they're doing is the big thing is no rear
toe in the car. Okay. So what that means is when these guys were going in the corner, they're able
to carry a lot of corner speed in the corner. They're able to get in the throttle really quickly.
And here's why. Because all this rear toe, these guys are running and these things they're doing
to the truck arms and whatnot is creating rear skew. And rear skew means the right rear of the car
steps out. Okay, that increases rear down force and side force, so it makes them be able to drive
their car harder. So we're basically saying with this rules package that during tech before and after
the race, there is no rear toe allowed, okay? It doesn't mean these teams won't figure out a way to
make it happen while they're on the track. That's where we see all these swerving and the guys
hit in the wall after a race. But this is, at the end of the day, going to be a big difference with how hard
they can get in the corner. They should be freer in. They should be tighter off, which means they're
off the gas more, which means we should see better racing.
But we don't know which team is going to figure out a way to get this rear toe back in the car
once they get on the racetrack, because if they do, that's going to be 10, 20, 30, 40 pounds more
of rear down force.
That guy's going to go faster.
Sam Hornish was the first guy we saw at the All-Star race come down the straightaway.
It looks like that.
I key up the mic.
I'm getting ready to say the 77 is wrecking he wasn't.
He was that crooked and that yawed out.
Well, there was a good chance he was.
Well, he damn sure wrecked a lot.
But that particular weekend, like he comes off a four,
and I key up to say the 77 spinning out.
He wasn't.
He was that much skewed out.
So NASCAR got in then and said, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
This is too far.
Well, now we're going back to it, but we're doing it all mechanically, right?
Yeah.
What he's talking about is we go down to the corner,
and basically the left rear goes forward,
and the right rear goes back.
So the back, the rear end housing just twists and aims the tires out towards the wall,
kind of. It drives them around, you know, out towards the wall.
So what that does is it gets more air on the rear spoiler, and it pins the back of the car down.
So basically all they're doing is carrying more speed through the corner when it does that.
And it's turning better because it's gripping.
So you're just carrying a lot more speed.
So, you know, I mean, I'm spot off for them trying.
Why not?
Yeah.
I mean, this rules package, since JGR's done two things, right?
They got a new engine in the middle of last year, and this rules package, they've killed it.
I mean, they've won seven of 12 races this year with this rules package.
They won the first race last year with this rules package at Kentucky.
So between their new motor and this rules package, they've got it figured out the most.
It'll be interesting to see during the All-Star race, do they keep that dominant momentum?
Or do we see teams have a little bit more catch-up because this is going to be different?
Yeah, it evens it out a little bit.
Yeah.
Spot on, spot off.
Kyle Larson dumps Edwards.
I don't really think he dumped him.
It's not like you ran up there and was like
I bet Carl Edwards thinks he dumped him
But it's not like he was like yep
This is your lap buddy
I'm getting you right here
If that were if that were Dell Jr., would you think that he got dumped
I would think Kyle was racing hard and going for the win
And what would you have said when he got hit?
I've been in that situation before we got turned by Kyle
At Richmond for the win one time
Do you think he got done?
I mean
Do I think Kyle
Kyle wrecked him
He wrecked him but
I mean he was just trying hard
Dover you know how hard
is to get off the bottom on Dover.
To me, I mean, and I don't really even fault, I don't fault Kyle for hitting us there.
He was just trying to pass us.
Man, he got loose.
Same thing with Larson.
I mean, he just trying to win, man.
When you're on the highway and you hit somebody in the ass of the car, it's your fault.
Right.
Okay.
In this particular situation, what I don't know is, does Kyle Larson know that the 42 got loose
and shot up the track in front of him, which is one of two things.
Kyle Larson has to see it, or Derek his spotter has to say, the 41's checking up up top.
When he checked up, the 19 checked up, and the 42 ran over him.
And that happens within milliseconds, right?
It's happening really quick.
So he 100% wrecked Carl Edwards.
I didn't see the wreck.
Did he hit him right and square in the back?
He hit him square in the left rear.
Yeah, and then he stayed on him after he hit him.
I think you paid him to do that.
No.
Because I had you beat.
I actually, I thought about when I saw, so Jimmy was in the big wreck, right?
Jimmy started the big wreck.
So to digress, I picked Jimmy Johnson last week over Carl Edwards, right?
So Jimmy's in the big wreck, and I'm like, well, I'm going to lose again.
You were probably going to lose anyway, because the 19 was better than the 48 most of the day.
I don't think so, because the 48 had the lead.
You give Jimmy Johnson the lead at Dover?
It's over.
Nah, not then.
I don't think so.
So Jimmy's wrecked.
We're killed.
I'm like, well, I lost the TJ.
This is going to suck.
And then the next lap, Carl Edwards, head first.
I was like, man, I hope the 48 comes back out.
He didn't get wrecked that bad.
NASCAR announces, 48, coming back out.
tower and I'm like yeah tj sucks got him yeah i really think running down there with a wrench
trying to get yeah i get that i still think the 19 because he was right there and he had tires and
jimmy did and i still think the 19 was going to get him i mean i looked at and i was like eh i know
what you're saying about jimmy but those guys with new tires i was texting canals under yellow
going hey man make sure you fix that call yeah we need a couple laps here take we got to
do you yeah all right kirk check up he's right on him get him yeah they all got my text
Yeah. I mean, I mean, Larson might have dumped him at that point, but at that point, I mean,
what do you do?
I mean, how do you know that guy got loose? And even we almost can't even tell a driver that
quick sometimes. If you're not staring right at it, if you look away for a split second
to see if there's a wreck over here and go back and that guy had to lift.
Yeah, it's hard to call a perfect race.
Yeah, especially in that deal there.
Yeah.
Alex Bowman's first race for junior motorsports in 2016 at Dover, spot on, spot off.
spot on man he's fast dang he was that 88 is the first or second run of the race
I mean he was in a position to win and dominate you know yeah that just shows uh you know
we're we're making progress well we're definitely making progress as a team at junior
motorsports here and you know we don't have we don't have that blistering first or second
lab but Alex showed that you know look we got some handling and we can we can make stuff
happen here still so you know props is all everyone here it was a great weekend for the entire
team.
Junior Motorsports is on the verge of being elite in the series.
And when we look back at the series the last several years, if you go back five years,
it was, you know, Childress, Penske, and JGR.
Right now, it's JGR and JRM.
I mean, we have all of the cars in the top five every week.
We're outrunning Lugano and Kislauski when they're in the 22.
We're outrunning, you know, all the children's guys, whether they have cup drivers or
affinity drivers, like we're on the verge of being elite here, J.R.M, period.
Yeah, they're close, man.
and they're working hard, so I'm looking forward to some more races there.
And hopefully you stop breaking the rules.
Yeah, and we're doing it with probably the least amount of a cup affiliation of anybody.
Man, as you guys know, J.R.M, yeah, we have a Hendrick Alliance, but we do our own bodies.
You know, we do a lot of our own stuff here.
And so, man, hats off to these guys in a shop for working our butts off.
Yeah.
Spot on, spot off.
Some teams still using four lug nuts.
Spot off.
NASCAR made a roll.
They need to stick to it.
Start penalizing people.
Don't just penalize.
Penalizing a crew chief does nothing.
They don't care about the money fine.
And they don't, nothing gets taken from.
They're going to give up money for a race win.
I would.
I mean, you're going to, and they can still call a race from their couch.
I mean, when you say, oh, you're suspended this week.
All that dude is, I mean, he probably, he's not, probably kind of happy.
Yeah.
I'm going to sit at home, call the race from my couch.
I'm one.
I'm in the chase.
Yeah, I'm already in the chase.
I'm going to wake up, feed my kids breakfast, call the race, you know, turn on my computer
about 12, 45, get ready.
Yeah.
Spot on for the teams that are still willing to try and not worry about it.
I saw pictures this week of teams with only four lug nuts tight.
Yeah.
It's the same ones.
It's the same ones as last week.
Same ones that are doing it.
And it's like, man, TJ just alluded to, if you can win and still have the violation and get
to keep the win, it's worth it.
Yeah, all those sponsors go to Victory Lane celebrate.
You take the picture, you take home the trophy, you take home the money, you take home the chase birth.
Then on Tuesday you're like, oh, sorry.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, by the way, your cruise chief gets a week off.
So, it's worth it.
They got to make it not worth it.
I don't know how they do that.
I think maybe you, I don't think, you know, roll them down pit road before and check them before you go to Victory Lane.
Yeah.
If you don't pass, you don't go to Victory Lane.
Yeah, let's take a quick break, and we'll get into Fast Lane.
This is Elliot Sadler driving one main Chevrolet for JR Motorsports.
My number one Chevy is heading all over the country this year,
hosting events at different one main branches throughout the season.
There's food, giveaways, and lots of photo opportunities.
Hey, did I mention food?
Head on over to OneMainRacing.com for all the upcoming shows, dates, and info from the event.
All right, Josh.
Well, let's call Crazy.
Our special guest for the day, Matt Kent, the Spotter, and check in with him.
Crazy.
What's up?
What are you doing?
Did you just get your haircut?
I did.
How'd that Floby feel?
Pretty good on the right.
Good.
You didn't even seem to have long hair.
Why did you get your hair cut already?
Man, I felt like a hippie.
You know how short I used to wear my hair?
I've tried this year over the winter and all to get back into trend of trying to cover this ugly head up a little more.
I had to go get it trimmed up.
He can borrow some hair from Mike Herman.
So long.
Yeah, you certainly aren't going to borrow any hair from Brett.
Uh-uh.
You can get some hair from Mike Herman.
He's got plenty.
He does.
Oh, most people in Canapolis do.
Yeah.
Yeah, if I would follow Herm to the barbershop one time, I could make me have something to look like I was back in the 70.
Yeah, I can't afford.
I can't afford hair.
That's why my neck hair gets so long and stuff.
You need to do something like that.
Yeah, I'm not going to stray razor that for you.
That's absurd.
I'm not, you're not getting anywhere near me with a razor.
Can't afford a haircut.
Is that what you said, T.
Yeah.
Yep, next object.
I was going to go already.
So hey, man, how was Victory Lane?
It was good, man, really good.
It felt really good to get back in there.
You know, at the end of the race there, it was just so much going on
and trying to get a little help from the people who weren't having a very good day
and had been caught up in some accidents and were a lap down or more
and just trying to get some help from those guys.
And to be honest with you, I just,
I felt like I worked my tail off, which was fine.
That's what I get paid to do right up until the checkered flag fell.
So there was no, you know, it was just work up until it was over with.
But, man, once the checkered flag fell and we were able to hold off Larson and chase
and go to Victory Lane, that was a pretty special day for sure.
Man, crazy couple things here.
You know, we saw Larson get into Carl and obviously wreck him.
So I have to ask you, were you worried that he was going to put the bumper to you?
when he got there. And the second thing is, as Larson was running you down, how much information
were you giving Matt about his line and helping him protected and ultimately just trying to
keep him safe and still win the race? Yeah, that was very unfortunate with what happened with Larson
and Carl off the two back there. I think it was just a racing deal. By no means, do I think it was
anything intentional from Larson. Carl was just trying to give Kurt some room. Kurt had gotten a little
free off the corner and got up in the fence and Carl was just trying to give him a little bit of room
and Larson just happened to have the nose in there just far enough when when Carl came down the hill just
moving a foot or two it just turned him around and it was just an unfortunate deal but
he Larson had a very fast car we saw that all day long he was probably the car up front that
that was battling with different contenders throughout the day more than anyone for the lead
And as we all know, I think they had a stretch there in the beginning where they weren't really good,
but they got the lucky dog and got back in the game.
And once they got back in there, they were a car to contend with the rest of the day.
And, you know, he caught us.
Him and Chase got back there messing around, and we probably pulled away a good 10 carlings from him.
And once he cleared Chase and had him in the rear view, he caught us in a hurry.
and he almost got outside of us in one and two, one lap,
and I was fortunate enough to be able to get Matt back up there.
Matt had, he was free and, you know, getting freer throughout the run
and was able to clear Larson and get back on the top,
and at that point in time, you know, he just, he worked hard to keep Larson on the bottom
and not letting him get back outside and get the run on him again.
But as he was catching us, for sure, I was letting him know where he was running and just where he was making his gains.
And the same with Chase.
When Chase got around Larson there for a few laps, I was feeding him the information on where he was running as well.
But at the end of the day, it was a pretty exciting day.
It was good for everyone involved on the 20 team and JGR to get that fourth car locked into the Chase.
It was good to get the 20 team back in Victory Lane.
As everyone knows, we haven't had a stellar year leading up to that point.
We've run good about everywhere we've been.
We just haven't had to finish the show for it.
And we finally put one together to start to finish at Kansas last week,
and then we're able to be up front and miss the big one, so to speak,
on the front stretch with Jimmy's misfortunes,
and just put us in a good position to be able to see.
sit up there and fight for the wind.
So now, like, how are you feeling?
I'm feeling good.
When I get up in the mornings, especially on rainy mornings like this,
it takes a little while to get the knee and the leg going.
But once I'm up, I'm okay.
I was just talking to the lady that cuts my hair,
and I told her, I said the days that I'm on the roof
and standing 10 or 12 hours at a time,
I feel better on those days than the days that I'm sitting.
around or, you know, in the mornings when I get out of the bed, when I'm up and using my leg,
that's when I feel the best.
And, you know, in the beginning, it was stay off of it, you know, the biggest part of the day
until you get a little bit of the stability back in it.
But now, I mean, that's what we do.
We stand on our feet all day, and I've always been someone that slept very little at night
and worked hard the rest of the time.
I've always been somebody that's been on my feet, and now it's gotten to that point to where that's where my comfort zone is again.
So doing well.
Still have a little more time to go, but it's getting better as each day passes.
So I got a pushmower.
You got a push mower.
Yeah, were you offering?
Sure, man.
Not a problem.
You know, T.J. crazy.
He's one way, man.
He'll take advantage of you any way you can.
Crazy is one of my good buddies, man.
We always help each other out.
Crazy, man, I got to ask, you know, when you got home and you're able to look at your wife and some, Melissa and Austin, man, where does this win rank?
That had to feel pretty damn special.
Yeah, it did, Brett.
And to be honest with you, you know, my family's been behind my career since the very beginning.
That's all they've ever known.
I was in this business when I met my wife, and, you know, we started down.
Dayton, so she's been a part of this since we got together 22 years ago. And Austin, he was,
he was born into this stuff. It's all he's ever known. And Austin's, as TJ knows, he's a pretty
quiet kid. He doesn't express himself very much, whether it's, you know, in bad times or good.
He's just pretty much an even-keeled kid. And at 19 years old, he does.
He doesn't show a whole lot of gratitude or things like that.
He's just, you know, when I come home, he'll say good job.
But he was one of the very first one that sent me a text and said, great job today, Dad, proud of you.
And I actually talked to him about that last night and told him, you know, how special out of all the text and tweets and everything else that I got,
what was the one from him that quick as soon as the race was over.
And we, you know, Melissa, she's the same way.
She's been my biggest supporter from the beginning.
And even through the bad days, she's always the first one to say, you know,
keep your chin up and it'll turn around.
But it was awesome.
I walked in and Austin and Melissa were in the living room watching TV.
and just sat down and talked to them and reflected over the day a little bit.
And just knowing where we've come from since December 17th and to be able for myself just to get back to work.
And then the seventh race back, you know, go to Victory Lane.
It was just an indication that we're getting back to close to where we need to be as a family and our help.
Yeah, that's good, man.
It's been awesome seeing you guys, you know, recover and you get back to the track
and now to get to victory lane.
But I do have one question for you.
Was this win as awesome as that time I threw that rubber snake down between your feet
at Sonoma that one year?
Well, I don't think my heart rate got the nearest time on the head over as it did in Sonoma.
He's very afraid of snakes, and he was sitting in a chair on the side of the hill in practice,
and that's what we do there.
I had a rubber snake, which is very dangerous already, and I threw it.
A venomous rubber snake.
A venomous rubber snake.
And I threw it down the hill, ray between his foot and another guy's foot.
And I've never seen anybody get out of a chair as fast as he did.
And I thought he was going to kill me.
But he paced back and forth and, you know, was taking deep breaths.
And it's been something that we probably won't forget.
And he actually, I had a rubber snake in Phoenix as well.
and Bob Jeffrey took it over to Crazy, and I went back over to getting.
It was in about 12 pieces.
Crazy, cut it up.
He cut it up.
If you want to mess with a dude, his nickname is crazy, right?
Crazy?
I put that snake in safekeeping.
I chopped him up and put him in a zip-lock bag, and he couldn't get out.
I tried to tape him back together, but it just didn't work.
Crazy, man, this was probably our favorite win among the spotters stand this year,
and it'll stay that way, man, no matter what happens.
So congratulations.
Thanks for coming on our show, man.
and we're all really, really happy for you and your family, man.
Well, thanks, Brett.
I certainly do appreciate it.
It'll be one that I won't forget, that's for sure.
Matt and I were texting Sunday night at about 11 o'clock after I got home.
And, you know, I told him, and I've already told Jason how much I appreciate those guys
and everyone standing behind me and my family, and especially for those guys to hold my job for me,
the first five races and just have Laurennear and Curtis Markham fill in for me until I was able
to get back.
You know, just stay in time in the workforce when there's work to be done, somebody has to be there
to do it.
And a lot of times that doesn't happen, but it seems like in our business, you know, when
certain situations happen and people have to miss a little time, there's always somebody
that raises their hand and says, hey, I don't want their job.
I just want to feel in until they get back.
So for everybody to stand behind me and for those guys to hold my position, as you guys well know,
as important as every position is on a race team, but especially ours on race day,
for those guys to hold that spot and allow me to come back and do what I love was something that I'll never forget.
Well, you're actually the first guest we've ever had on Doorbumer Clear,
so you're going to have to remember this too, man.
We are worldwide.
So you might get bombarded on Twitter now.
You're crazy spotter, right?
Yes.
Crazy 1004 spotter.
Yep.
Just eyes born, ladies and gentlemen.
Yeah.
Well, thanks for joining us, bud, and I'll see you this weekend.
Okay.
Thank you guys very much.
Have a great day today.
Thanks, you too.
All right.
See you.
All right, so we're going to go into Fastlane, guys.
And if you've ever listened before, I give a topic to debate to one of the guys,
and they each get 30 seconds to answer it, and the person who went first.
First gets the rebuttal.
So four will be racing, two will be non-racing.
But.
You said but.
Brother.
The Monster Mile.
Oh, TJ, you're going first, okay, bud?
Okay.
Get your timer ready.
The Monster Mile produced great racing in the Cup series,
but it also produced the big one.
What role do you, as a spotter, have,
in a big rack like the one on Sunday and Dover?
Well, if you're like me, you drive your driver right into it,
and you end your race and you go home early.
Really, you look for the hole.
You try to find out Dover's silver.
cleaning so most of the time the hole is going to be on the top and we were in perfect
position for that but there was a rocket that came off the bottom like a missile and
doored us and took us out of the race which which rocket was that it had a 13 written on the side
of it the 13 ball the 13 rocket he has a problem deciding what lane he's going to run
anyway he can't even wreck in the same lane i'm just kidding next we always have an opportunity
for the big one regardless of where we're at if a wreck happens on a
to restart because we're just like at a plate track running so close together that if one guy has a
problem, we can certainly all get into it. So we watch and see if, you know, 15, 18 car wrecked
over. We've seen this before. I've been a part of it. And this particular time, thankfully,
the information that I gave Clint and the decisions that Clint made allowed us to miss it.
I was screaming, check up and get high because, again, as T.J. said, it's going to all clean down.
We were on the top lane. Have we been on the bottom? We'd have been screwed up and get high.
Yeah. Better drink a lot of water someday morning. I was going to check.
up, but I got high.
Yeah, you know,
it's a, when Jimmy, there's a wreck up front on restart,
so it's unfortunate that it, you know,
and it's not something Jimmy planned to do or anything,
but that could happen a couple times earlier in the race.
Guys got a little loose,
they got to hit each other and about wrecked already,
but if you're not 37th,
you usually have a pretty good chance of being in it.
Restarts are a big topic right now in NASCAR.
If you beat the leader to the line on a restart,
you will be black flagged.
If you're being pushed from behind,
it's still your fault.
what does NASCAR need to do to correct this gray area rule?
Man, I am over all this restart drama.
Like, I am just over it.
And I don't mean this week, we lost a race because of restart drama in India a few years ago,
where, in my opinion, they got the call wrong.
The breakyard?
At the breakyard, the first inaugural Xfinity race.
So this deal here, Elliot beat the leader to the line by an inch.
Well, he beat the leader to the line because Ty Dillon was pushing him in front of the leader.
And, oh, by the way, the leader spun his tires.
So common sense didn't come into play when figuring out.
at their discretion as to whether or not Elliot was at fault for beating the leader to the line.
I love to tell Brett that he's wrong and that he sucks half the time,
but there's nothing you can do in that situation.
You're getting pushed.
The guy started in the race spun his tires.
It's not the second place guy's fault that he's better at getting into throttle at him at that point.
That guy started the race, went messed up, and you make your own luck.
When you spend the tires, when you spend your tires, it's your fault.
and Elliot even gave him the lead back.
He let the guy get the lead and still.
Still got a penalty.
I'm going to say this, and I like Ty Dillon, the three car was at fault for both restarts.
He pushed us against the leader to the line first.
He should have been black flagged as well.
The second restart, he jumped it.
He went before Svarez went and beat Svarez to the line, and that was a no call.
So I'm more frustrated with the tolerances with the three than the rule being enforced against us.
Yeah.
We are getting close to the halfway point in the season.
Already.
What do you think has the best shot to take home the 2016 championship?
Teague.
I still feel like we, you know, I know our 88 team, and I know the guys that work on it,
I know our company, and they're going to do a lot to get right.
And it's not the perfect time to be hot yet.
We got time to play around still and get things where we need to get for the check.
So I still like us and our teammates.
The question is, who do I think has the best shot to take home the championship?
I'm really glad T.J. picked his driver.
I really wish their organization was running better than they are.
I think you have to go with JGR.
And within JGR family, you have to go with Kyle Busch.
End of story.
I disagree.
Ding, ding, ding.
Yay.
Charlotte Motor Speedway will host the Sprint All-Star Race this weekend.
What's your favorite thing about the week?
Matt, for me, it's all about the fans.
I mean, all the things that goes into the sport.
If I were running NASCAR this week, I would say we have an open infield, open garage, it's hot, it's free.
Let everybody come out that wants to come out and come in the infield and come in the garage.
See our cars, see our drivers.
When you look at motocross and you look at monster trucks, like they do some really cool things for fans.
And this week is all about the fans.
I agree.
When I think All-Star, I think of people coming through these shops,
people coming to the track, coming to town, and check things out.
You know, checking out, not only the race shots, man,
they're going to eat here, stay here, and hang out.
So I think the All-Star Week is a great week to show our sport
and give them an exciting little show down there
and see a guy win a million dollars.
This is a race that our local Charlotte crowd enjoys coming out to,
which I think is very important.
It also this year has a completely new format that Keselowski invented.
We'll find out how many Miller Lights he had to drink
when he came up with this format as we watched this thing play out
and figure out if he was buzzed ideas or drunk ideas.
It could be bad and it could be good.
We'll find out.
We're going to know Saturday night.
Anything's kind of better than what we've been running, though.
It's going to be cool.
It's different.
It's different, yeah.
It should be.
It's a race to do it.
So yesterday was the 30th anniversary of the movie Top Gun.
Who is your favorite character and why, T.J.
The blonde.
You're on the back of the motorcycle.
Yeah.
Who doesn't want a blonde hanging on the back of your motorcycle?
screaming on her runway.
Charlie.
That doesn't.
That was her night.
Doesn't she say like some awesome pickup line?
It would take me to better, lose me forever.
But that's the...
Whoa.
Isn't that?
Oh, no, that's...
I'm thinking of Goose's wife, Meg Ryan.
Remember that?
Yeah, I do.
When he's playing the piano.
You...
Great balls of fire.
You may...
Have you used that line?
My favorite character was Goose, man.
He's a guy's best friend.
He's the wing man.
He's the guy that you want at the bar when you're going to get in the fight.
He's the guy you want having your back, man.
So got to go with goose.
I cried when that guy got killed in that injection.
Did he not pay attention in flight school?
Did you like the volleyball?
Your favorite part of that movie is probably the volleyball scene then, isn't it?
Yeah.
The Jorts.
Just wishing Justin Bieber was out there playing with him.
Yeah.
I like the Iceman.
Yeah.
Val Kilmer.
Always had the shades on.
Always, like, kind of cocky, like, you're dangerous.
Yeah.
We need to get together and watch this movie together on a Tuesday.
Let's do it.
We should have, like, once a month, we should get together and watch, like, an old, early 90s movie or something.
Yeah.
Like, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, Days with Thunder.
Yeah.
Six-pack?
Yeah.
We watched Six-pack.
You ever seen Six-Pack?
Nope.
Perfect.
What is it?
A little race a movie?
You've never seen Six-pack?
I'm not a dude.
No.
No, dude, it's an awesome movie.
Stroker race?
I know who that.
You haven't seen Stroker race?
We definitely got that movie.
Go on and clock him.
Clock him.
We got to have a movie.
Clyde Torkels.
Right turn, Clyde.
Right there and Clyde.
So we're going to get into the hashtag
Ask DBC Questions.
And at the end, you two will pick your favorite question,
and they will get an Elliott Sadler autographed hat.
We always forget to pick her favorite question,
and Josh reminds us.
That's going to happen.
I bet we forget another day.
You forget.
Homeless Nancy.
At Homeless Nancy asks.
Poor Nancy.
Poor Nancy needs a home.
But she has a Twitter.
Yeah.
And a phone.
Yeah.
Why are young drivers so chatty on the radio during races,
I.E. Witt and McDowell.
Stop talking and listen to your spotter and crew chief, exclamation point.
Less of a question and more of a directive.
I've spotted for Cole Whit before, and I don't feel like he was very chatty.
He was just normal.
Kind of, maybe even kind of quiet.
He's quiet in person.
He was kind of quiet.
So I'm not really sure.
We don't get a chance to listen to what's going on during the races to this.
So I'm kind of clueless on this.
But I'm glad you're involved in cycling around and listening to other drivers and stuff.
I like somebody that's involved for being homeless.
Trevor Bain was pretty chatty when he got into the sport,
and hopefully he has now less chatty because I don't care how good of a driver you are.
When you key up that button, you lose time on the racetrack.
I agree.
I have yet to meet a driver that can key up the button and either A go faster or be around the same speed.
When they key up the mic to talk, they all run slower that lap because for that split second, their focus has changed.
Yeah, I agree.
I can see it.
So take away the buttons.
Don't even let the drivers talk during the race.
Make them do like hand signals when they go by start finish.
Pit signs.
That way they couldn't bitch at us when we screw up.
Yeah.
At WSU Dinsmore asks, what's the most redneck track NASCAR visits?
Brett's home.
Pageland South Carolina.
Man, that redneck track.
Michigan Infield, dude.
There's nothing more redneck than the Michigan Infield.
No way, dude.
No way.
The most redneck track we go to is definitely, probably Darlington.
Darlington is our Fenway.
It's our nostalgic feeling venue.
Michigan Infield is redneck.
I don't know.
There ain't even a grocery store within 50 miles of this place.
I mean, they just have a good time.
They're wearing Jorts, wife beaters, drinking bushlight.
But here's the deal.
In Michigan, they're doing it on purpose.
In South Carolina, they're doing it.
We're doing it off heritage.
We're more alternate.
I tell you, when y'all get to the track of Michigan this year, go through the infield,
they're cooking, bacon, drinking beer at 8 in the morning.
It is the most redneck thing you've ever seen in your life.
You know what we need to do?
Friday night, whenever we're all done in practice or whatever, we need to get together
and just go for a ride through there and take a look.
We'll get Kristen some beads.
I'm going to make Kristen a cutoff door bumper clear T-shirt,
and she's going to wear it around.
I'll get our golf cart.
Yeah.
And we're going to bring squirt guns and spray people.
We're going to do it.
Michigan and field.
Hooks up.
At Heather N12 asked,
drivers sleep in their motorhomes,
but where do the crew and spotter sleep?
This question gets asked a lot.
People always...
It's a hotel.
I know.
We stay in hotels.
Like, the same is where you would stay if you went to a race.
Stay on the hauler in the lounge under a chair.
I stay 70% at the hotel, 30% on Elliot's couch in his bus.
When we go to a place like me,
Michigan, I stay on Elliot's bus because I know how fun that infield is out there.
Yeah.
I stay in a hotel, just, you know, all the teams do.
Yeah.
The only people that stay in the track, that stay at the tracks are the crew chiefs and drivers.
And owners.
And soon to be spotters.
We're going to get us.
Yeah, I mean.
We're going to write it into our deal.
We get a bus.
We need a, we need a driver owner spotter lot.
I want like, what do we have?
Like go RVing.com or can't we get them to sponsor us or something?
All we need is a little pop-up camper, man.
I don't know about pop-up, dude.
I need a separate little room or something.
Diva, T.J.
Can't do a pop-up.
I mean, you'll tip it with us in there.
At Robe Bay, 88S.
Robe Bay.
Do you think Charlotte will have a ton of tire fall off like Atlanta and Texas
or will be it more similar to Vegas and Kansas?
I sure hope so.
I hope it falls off.
I'm not sure what tire we were running there,
but it'd be awesome if it had some falloff
because that would make the All-Star race very exciting.
I want to see a two-second fall.
all off man that's when you're not going to see that but that's what i want to say i know that'd be
awesome at jojo 6040s have you ever forgotten have you ever forgot to bring something important with
you to a track or left something important at track i let home underwear home one time i was kids
i got to um new hampshire and i don't have any underwear true story i got somewhere
chicago did you go so wait did you go in pie underwear you just did i went to burlington
Burlington Coat Factory
and I bought Calvin Klein underwear
and they were the most uncomfortable,
hottest things I've ever worn in my life.
I got to Chicago one year
and forgot my hard card.
Oh, man.
Tyler Green, a buddy of mine who spots from McMurray,
got to the racetrack Saturday morning in Dover.
He left his spotter bag at the hotel.
So he didn't even have any of his radio.
So he had a haul ass back to his hotel.
So yeah, we forget stuff.
What have you forgotten?
I had an instance in Homestead
last race of the years,
It's probably four if I actually forgot all my underwear as well.
What is it with you guys in your underwear?
I left my grandma's.
Sorry, we wear underwear.
I have a gold cross that I wear on and it's my grandmas.
And I left it in the hotel in, where were we two weeks ago?
Bristol, Richmond, Kansas.
Richmond.
I was like panicking at the racetrack, but they mailed it to me.
So that was good.
That's awesome.
Yeah, that was nice.
Why can't we not forget her underwear?
It's just funny that you both did.
Do you not travel underwear?
I always, yeah.
What?
Jesus always takes a turn.
So this week, do you guys have anything you want to
Cue Josh to complain about?
Hey, anybody.
Hey, there's Josh's voice.
We forgot the winner.
Yeah, let's see.
Hot dog, it's a weiner.
Who picked last week, T.J. or me?
T.J.
T.J. picked last week.
So I'm going with the What's the Most Redneck Track NASCAR visits?
Just because it's, because it's Michigan.
Congratulations to WSU Densmore and homeless Nancy.
Like if the government now gives away free phones to people, they also give away free houses.
And you can have TJ's pop-up.
So make sure you send the letter to your local congressman because we give everything away in today's world.
And we're not allowed to talk politics.
I'll shut up on here for Josh.
Edits this out.
Hey guys, do you have anything you want to complain about?
What do you want to talk about?
Josh.
You haven't said anything in all show except for pick a winner.
T.J. brought us Chick-fil-A today.
I did.
That was nice.
I did.
I knew Brett was going to be late.
He brought us Chick-fil-A. Where's my Chick-fil-A?
He brought me Chick-fil-A.
You're so late.
It was already cold.
TJ had time to kill because he knew you weren't getting over that bridge.
You asshole.
I knew you wouldn't bring me.
I don't see any.
I don't even see a Chick-fil-A bag in here.
Here's one.
It was a fruit cup.
We're all breaking up.
I'm done with you guys.
So what do you want to rant about?
If the weather sucks, right, and it looks like it's going to continue to suck all weekend,
if it's raining Saturday night, they should just move the race for the All-Star,
because we're already in Charlotte next week, move it to Monday night, put it in prime time,
I bet we'd have the best ratings we've ever had.
Dang. Yeah, but then the people that came for the race have to go home unless they came for all two weeks.
They're going to watch it rain for three days anyway.
The weather's crap this weekend.
This is going to be bad.
I have a, my daughter's birthday party is Sunday.
Yeah.
I might as well just go ahead and cancel out of that one.
Yeah.
What's the theme?
But it is only, I don't think there is a theme.
It's just we're all going to a place.
You got to have a theme.
We're going to a place.
Where's the place up?
I can't.
He doesn't know what it's called.
But he's scared to say anything.
Somebody's actually going to come stalk him at a birthday party because T.J.
Majors is so famous door bumping clear.
I am not.
I am not announcing where I'm going.
He's going to the jumporama.
Yeah, something like that.
I really don't even know.
I try to come on.
It's because you don't pay attention when your wife talks.
Oh, yeah.
This comes with marriage.
You'll see.
All right, I need your predictions for all-star boys.
Yeah, and this doesn't count.
We can't.
Last week...
Because it's no point.
Well, yeah, I mean, last week, I think this needs to be a bonchral.
Last week, TJ picked Carl.
I picked Jimmy.
Yep.
They both ended up not finishing in the top 20, but I still managed to squeak out the win.
So this week, this should not count against...
Brett's being very smug right now.
This shouldn't count against our line.
Because he knows he got one.
He gets it to do them last week.
I kicked his ass again.
Get gifted.
I mean, it's what happened.
Gifted.
Stating the facts.
Stating the facts that my guy said in the top three the whole race.
So how do we pick an all-star winner and not count against our allotment and it only count if we, if our guy wins?
If your guy wins, it's a bonus point.
Just pick a guy.
If he wins, you get the point.
If you don't win, you know.
Yeah.
No, how about we just get the point?
You get to pick first.
I will go.
So it's zero to zero.
We either get a point for the win or we don't get anything.
We're all or nothing.
Got it.
Oh, man.
Look how hard he's thinking.
Does it hurt when you think that hard?
Don't give me that eye.
I think I will go with.
He's never concentrated this hard.
T.J.'s pants kind of look like they're wet.
Thanks.
I will go with the 20.
A 20.
Matt Kenseth back to back.
I'm going to have to go with the 18
because I think he's the fastest right now
and he's got nothing to lose because it doesn't matter.
Did you watch him last Sunday?
He was not the fastest.
He was not the fastest, but his crew chief was at home.
Yeah, but he was still logged in.
Yeah, but he was at home.
That don't matter.
Must have mattered.
He sucked.
Well, then, I mean, then Colburn's a hell of a crew chief from home.
Colburn is a hell of a crew chief from home.
I don't think that matter.
I think that it's missed it.
You know, I don't think they're the fastest Gibbs car right now.
I think the 20 and 18 are better than them.
So I will tell you guys what we're getting ready to go do.
T.J. and I are getting ready to go run some go-carts.
Are you running in the rain?
In the rain today to practice for next week's little 600.
Where?
We have a spotter race next week, and it's going to be on Tuesday.
Tuesday.
And we've been doing it for a couple years now.
I won the inaugural race, and we actually had a lot of fun that race, too.
Do you get a trophy?
Yeah, you actually do get a trophy.
Are you coming?
I want to come here.
Next Tuesday?
Well, you've got a car, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's next Tuesday, next Tuesday evening.
So if you're in town for the race, come on over.
That GoPro facility is really, really nice.
Beautiful.
Yeah, and you will not be disappointed when you get there and see this place.
So come on over there and hang out with us.
And, you know, I'm pulling for an invert so you know.
I'm going for an invert.
Normally we started straight up by speed and heat races, but I'm pulling for the invert.
Because I want to see, I want to see this is, you know, maybe I need Brad.
what Brad thinks we should do.
Yeah, let's ask Brad.
We'll ask Brad, but we need to put the faster guys in the back, so Brad has a chance.
The good news is we're going to practice today, and it's raining, and that is so fun.
Can you guys tweet some picks?
In the rain?
Let me just get my phone out in the rain.
Hey, next Friday is Fan Day here at Junior Motorsports in Morrisville, so come on out.
We're going to have all of our sponsors out here, tons of food, three-on-three-on-three-a-te-te-te-eat-3-a-eat-teat-a-teat-off.
Race Hub will be filming.
We're recording.
And we're recording.
So all the Dirty Mo Radio podcast are recording.
You can come in, listen to it while we're recording.
I fully intend I'm pulling somebody in from the crowd.
And, you know.
We're going to get all the fans.
We're going to get 200 headsets and put them all.
Yeah.
Come on in.
I definitely want to pull some people in.
And we'll ask them what to think of the show.
And Race Hub's filming a thing on Junior Nation fans.
