The following is a production of Dirtymoe media.
No good.
Buy one.
Don't ever drive, man.
It'll come to you.
You're a fucking idiot if you think that's right.
But that just because T.J. planned it that way.
Ball three, one to get you out back.
You come in time here.
You come and keep up.
A lot of three.
Model three, why?
It's hard to get blocked.
I mean, seriously.
Might be the dumbest thing you've ever said.
Your bumper,
clear.
So there, bumper.
Pumper.
Clear, clear.
Hey, what's up everybody? Brett Griffin, spotter this year for Richard Childers Racing.
My next big event is Sonoma with a guy named Will Brown.
And TJ's not here today.
Freddie's not here today.
We'll get to that in a minute.
Casey, what's up?
Hey, guys, Casey Boat here.
Absolutely nothing to talk about after a full weekend of racing on Memorial Day.
Am I right, guys?
There was a lot of racing.
And I got a buddy in the house, president of colleague racing.
Yes.
Mr. Chris Rice.
He's like I forgot.
I forgot I was president.
I thought I was a guy that everybody complained to.
They just changed my name.
Chief complaining officer.
I just thought about something.
Do you know who your extra spotter is at Sonoma?
Yeah, SVG.
SVG is going to be your extra spotter.
I said, you can't understand me.
You'll never better understand Brett.
So he and I talked about it at the back of your hauler.
Me and Lenny were sitting there talking and SVG walked up.
I sat there for an hour waiting on you never showed up.
But he and I started talking about it.
I didn't understand a word he said.
SVG?
No, you won't.
No. He's not from South Carolina.
He's definitely not from South Carolina.
He's damn sure not in South Carolina.
So I got to tell you guys something on the reason why Freddie isn't here.
Do you know why he's not here, Casey?
He's the first human being I've ever known over 40 years old to miss a work engagement for a bachelor party.
Oh, I thought he missed because he was mad at me.
Yeah, he didn't want to come because you were on here.
That's what I thought.
Why is he mad at you, first of all?
Well, I messed up. I learned a valuable lesson as a president. I listened to somebody, and I assumed, and if you ever spell assume, you know what that means, and I assumed Freddie was doing something else as a spotter, and he wasn't. He was waiting on me, and I didn't talk to him, and didn't call him, and so that was on me. I messed up. I took the blame. I seen him at Dover, and we started making amends at Dover.
That's the first time y'all spoke since November. Yes, since November, so I started making my amends at Dover.
at Dover, because I love Freddie, but I think he was having a bad day.
Probably.
He unfollowed me on Twitter.
He didn't like me, but he unfollowed me.
Is that the most, like, middle school thing you could possibly do?
Oh, yeah.
It's hilarious, but I love Freddie.
We'll be back together soon.
Well, if he makes it home from his bachelor party, God only knows.
Thank goodness.
I mean, when the last time you went on a bachelor party?
How old were you?
Oh, my goodness.
I don't even remember.
That's same.
Like, I don't remember.
What, 40?
plus year old man goes on bachelor parties.
Freddie?
Same one is mad at me.
I don't know where TJ's at.
I think he's getting his batteries changing his
Tesla or something.
He texted in a group text yesterday and said,
I'm not going to be here.
And then y'all went, hey, we need to fill that third seat.
Yeah.
I was like, okay.
No, no need with you too.
No, we're good.
So I was curious if you were going to be able to be here
because I found out there's an Iowa tire test going on today.
We're not invited.
No?
No.
You don't get to go run 800 plus laps and get your car better?
No. Did you see us at North Wilkesboro?
We're still up there trying to finish that race.
I mean, goodness gracious, no, we didn't get to go.
So what teams got to go?
So from what I understand, and this is not factual information, so we might need to...
I have the tweet all of it.
Oh, she's got the tweet.
Okay, I'm thinking the five car, which he needs a lot of practice.
Definitely.
And then the 20.
Yep.
And Keselowski.
Wow.
The guy that won and the guy that ran second.
and all night, Sunday night is going.
Larson probably would have got in the car
and drove it up to first or second.
Yeah.
Because Justin Algar had done a wonderful job.
Yeah.
Justin Algar had to do a good job.
Was he running a 13th at the break?
Yes, he was.
But he passed a lot of cars.
I wouldn't worry about where he was running
as much as how many cars he passed.
And then the leader came,
and I know we're going to talk about this in a little while.
I've seen it on our sheet.
Yeah.
And he stayed in front of the leader.
Yeah.
That was cool.
Well, let's kick things off by talking about the Coke 600.
and just overall the race, I want to know from a colleague's standpoint how y'all felt what that went,
but also how you felt about NASCAR's decision to call the race towards the end when they couldn't get it dry.
Yeah.
Well, I felt like we made huge gains from collig racing because, like I said at North Wilkesboro,
we ran dead last with both cars.
And when I say dead last, we were really, really bad.
We were trying a bunch of stuff, and obviously it didn't work.
and we went back to some of our what we know.
And the 31 car is what I'm talking about,
ran top 18 all night.
And I know everybody says,
top 18 is not that good,
but I don't know if you've seen cup races lately
and you've spotted for the 33.
Yeah.
I'm telling you that's hard to do.
Daniel passed a lot of cars.
They had great pit stops.
I pit crews are doing amazing jobs,
so proud of that.
And I thought we had a really good race.
SVG doesn't get going until about
the third stage. Well, we didn't get to that. You know what I mean? So he had started passing people.
He got and had some damage. His car was tight. So I think for SVG's first race, I thought he'd done well.
I wished he would have been able to finish the race because he doesn't get going into the third stage.
Let's talk about him for a minute, man. I've been extremely impressed with his race craft because he could
easily go out there and screw up the beginning of the race and it cost him a chance to run all the laps.
Like even on the Exfinity side, he has tremendous racecraft.
Yes, he does.
And he's a, man, he's a student, too, is what's so cool.
And, you know, he's not that young.
He's 38 years old.
And I'm telling you, he does.
And what I've been amazed by is, you know, AJ has been our key holder to college racing over the last bunch of years and still he is.
And he banks off of him, even though knowing that they're going to be racing each other,
road courses.
But like, so we went to Texas.
He was 1.7 seconds off and qualifying at Texas, which, you know, you don't get all upset
about that.
You're just like, okay.
But when we qualified at Charlotte and I take our car, I don't take the leader.
I don't take the fastest car.
Whatever is the fastest car that came out of college racing.
So he was seven-tenths off of AJ this week.
So he cut it by one second the last time he raced a race like this.
So, and he ran Darlington?
He gets out of the car, and, you know, he's a big guy.
He's six, three?
Yeah, he's a big boy.
He's lost some weight, too.
Yeah, oh, he's, it's not like pushing on me or you.
It's no fat there.
He's a big dude.
He gets out of the car at Darlington, and he walks over to the right side, and he says,
darn it.
And I looked at him, he says, I scratched it.
And then he said, I looked up and down, and everybody had scratched their car.
Scratched it.
He scratched it.
Well, he ran Daytona this year, and he went really, really slow around the apron after he
got in a wreck and we were like you got to pick it up and so after the race he's like man I'm sorry if
i would a wreck like that in Australia my car's a glass like fiberglass he said it would have torn
all the pieces he said I got hit like six times that would have destroyed me for the rest of the
year he said so I didn't know my car would keep rolling so I mean like literally he was going so
slow the pace car was catching him yeah and and Bruce his crew chief is going SVG you got to pick it up
you've got to hurry up and Freddie is his
Freddy is his spotter
sorry Frankie
just make it worse
make it worse God
he's his spotter cut that out please
no no way
and he's like
you have got to pick it up
and I mean
SVG doesn't get too excited on the radio
he was getting excited that day
yeah what's been your coolest thing about
working with him
because I can't imagine you're
you've got him for long he didn't come over here
from overseas to run
Xfinity forever.
No, it's a one-year deal.
Trackhouse loaned him to us.
So we done a deal, I mean, I'll tell you exactly how it happened.
We done a deal.
Ty Norris came to me last year at Pocono.
And we had a conversation and we sat down and track house basically said, what would it
take to run 20 races?
And I'm like, well, we don't want to run 20 races.
We tried to do this all-star car.
It doesn't work in Xfinity.
Works in Cup, okay.
You can bring in a lot more money in Cup.
But in Exfinity doesn't work.
I mean, it costs you a lot.
a lot of money. So anyway, to make a long story short, they were like, I said, why don't you
just run him a full year? And they were like, what do it cost? And we was like, well, this. And they
said, okay, so track house, they went ahead and said, we'll do it. Now they went out and sold it.
So they go out and sell all the sponsorships on it. But we have one year and we don't know what
he's going to do from there. It's time for Ty Norris and Justin Marks, Matt Colleg, myself, to
sit down and figure out what's the next step. Is he going cup racing with those guys? I mean,
because it's a lot going on in the charter world and everything. So, um,
It's time to sit down and figure out what he's going to do.
And, you know, it's funny when you say the coolest thing about what he has brought to us is, is probably how calm he is.
You know, no matter what the situation is, he doesn't get too upset.
So the opposite of AJ, I'm a dinger.
Oh, well, yeah.
Yeah.
But, you know, I told AJ this yesterday.
We were texting back and forth.
You know, I love crazy.
And he's my favorite crazy person that I know.
So, like, I love crazy.
And the thing about AJ is that he didn't embrace it at first with SVG.
And then we ran CODA, AJ outrunning, you know, full first part of the stage,
and then SVG got in front of him.
And we were talking about this last week.
They were 19 seconds in front of third.
Those two guys were at CODA.
They didn't, we didn't end up winning.
Both of them done track limits, had to end up go to the rear.
But the thing of it was is that, you know, they were running so hard.
I had Richard Chirder's, Ty Norris, Matt, all them.
texting me, tell them, hey, slow down. How do you tell them two crazy guys to slow down?
You know, they're going at it because they know they're both great road racers.
But yeah, that's the complete opposite of age.
So you just mentioned the whole charter thing. Obviously, you guys have been in a rumor mill
a lot. What is Kyle of her? I heard this was going to come that this one you've been saying.
I got to bring it up. And I know you talked about it on Sirius Radio a couple weeks ago.
Like you sat on the show, I think a year ago, and said, we do not have two charters for sale when it
was being rumored. Where are you at now?
we do not have two charters for sale right now we still don't like and we we're not they're not for sale
what we are interested in is getting partners so we don't have to constantly ask matt hey what are we
going to do you want to do we want to do we want to do we want to do we want to do we want to
I mean you want them guys to pay you want them guys use their marketing dollars how do you want to do
this like we we we need partners we won't partners we won't you know I mean it's a lot
of race teams out here that take in investors. They take in things. I mean, look at Spire. Look how much
it's elevated them. For sure. Since they took in an investor. So, I mean, it's a lot of people
that are that are out here that, you know, might want to invest, you know, I mean, but we're not,
we're not looking to sale. Matt wants to be in the business for a long period of time. And to be
honest with you, Brett, like the cup side of it, if you do it and get some money and get some partners,
you're not far in the hole. You know, you're not that, you're not that, you're not
that deep. We talk about that all the time. Yeah, we could have another, I don't know, 50, 60 people,
have another big building, have our, you know, do things different and spend a lot more money,
but at the end of the day, all the cars run the same. They run the same speed. Every single one
of them run the same speed, no matter how you get to that point. And honestly, Hendrick and
Penske may be the only two frontrunners that don't have investors. Roush has investors.
Right.
Richard Childress had investors.
Gibbs took home an investor a year or two ago.
Which is an investment guy with Matt in the Guardians, right?
So the guy that invested in Gibbs and deals with Matt, outside of NASCAR.
I mean, Matt does a lot of investing in other businesses.
I don't know the real number, but it's above 70 in businesses that he's invested in or owns outright.
So Matt's not broke.
Like, I want to go on record.
I think somebody said Matt was broke.
Matt's definitely not broke.
I've watched this go down and I always told him, even back when Blake Cook was with us,
I said, I'm not going to let this sport break you.
Like, I'm just not going to let it break you.
It's not going to happen.
It's no need to, right?
Like, we can, I think today at Stuart Haas, I keep hearing that they're going to tell them
what the future is.
That's what I keep hearing.
I think that's going on right now.
Yeah, right now.
Yeah.
So, which is cool.
I mean, but you can't break Gene Haas.
I'm sorry.
You might discourage him.
You might make him mad and we might, NASCAR might make Matt Colleg mad and he might just decide,
nope, I'm done with it.
But those guys that make a lot of money outside of NASCAR, they're not like us.
No.
This is that living, right?
Like, this is Chad's living.
Like, you're not, they're not going to break those guys.
Two things from that.
First of all, charter agreement.
This is kind of a double-fold deal here.
Man, four charters potentially going on the market at the same time, at the same time, can make them worth less money.
And you guys not having a signed charter agreement can also make them worth less money.
Where are you guys at on their charter agreement from the owner's side that you can tell us?
Well, I can tell you that it's been a lot of hard work, and I've been right in the middle of most every bit of it.
We have our own TNC that has done a great job, but I've been in the middle of it from, I know a lot more about business than I ever thought I would know.
And I'll tell you, it has been super hard from the team side and from NASCAR side.
So I don't want to discredit either one of them.
I know we can throw shade and do all that, but it's no need to.
When you bought your truck, I remember talking to you about this a couple years ago.
You bought this truck and he ended up wrecking it and turning it back in or whatever.
You negotiated with the guy.
Yeah.
And it was a month-long deal.
Like you went over two or three times and you negotiated with the guy.
You were mad at the guy for a minute.
He was mad at you.
And I say this all the time.
That's negotiations.
problem is is that we're dealing with we're dealing with NASCAR NASCAR is dealing with a bunch of
TV people like so it's not just two people dealing together it's a lot of people that's involved
in this so yeah where we're at I think we are um we're as close as we ever been good uh I think
you know with some things that are going on probably this week I feel like that we'll start
talking positive and that's what we need but I mean everybody's not going to be happy right
Like, Denny's very vocal about how happy he is, right?
Or not happy.
But I can tell you it comes down to money.
Man, if you asked us money and permanent charters, those kind of things is what everybody
looks at a lot and talks about a lot.
But I still say it comes down to money.
Like, how much money can you make going to Sonoma, going to Charlotte?
Mexico.
Mexico or Montreal.
Montreal.
They don't know which one yet.
I think they're in a bid more.
I think Mexico and Montreal.
I think Mexico's winning the bidding war, which is fine.
I'm okay with it.
I think we need to go outside the country.
We need to do it a different way.
And we talked about that.
But charter agreement, I think, is right around the corner.
And I think it still has a little bit of work to do.
But we got to get it done in the next, I say we've got to get it done in the next 30 to 60 days.
Or it's going to hurt our sport.
I'm going to go down this route, too, with this charter piece, right?
So when fans hear charter, they think Josh Barry,
Chase Briscoe, Ryan Preece, Noah Gregson.
You and I haven't done this for a long time.
We think about the hundreds of other employees that are there,
that are your average Joe's.
You looking at this, though, from college racing standpoint,
there's a lot of really talented crew guys, crew chiefs, engineers,
getting ready to be put on the market.
How long do you wait to jump on those guys once they announce that they're selling their charters?
You don't.
If they want to watch, if they want to listen to DBC, tell them to call my guy,
Justin Cox. He does all the hiring. I mean, yeah, you don't. You have to go after people,
and obviously they have contracts probably through the end of the year because they have their
stuff through the end of the year. And hey, he might be telling them that I'm keeping two charters
and I'm going to keep 85% of the people. Who knows? Like, you don't know what Gene Haas is going to do.
They might want to change the name. Get Tony out of it. Who knows what he's telling them right now.
But I will tell you that it is a lot of great race car drivers over there. A lot of great people
first one obviously it comes to probably everybody's mind is Rodney Childers, you know,
and then don't forget about Zippy.
Zippy's been there since, I mean, God, a mighty, a long time.
So, you know, it's a lot of great people over there that will find a home because we are
in need of people in racing, right?
We talk about this all the time.
We are in need of people in racing.
So now they will be uncomfortable for a minute, but they will be able to find a place to go.
you know um it is uh whereas where we've been in nascar over the last two or three years we're in need
of people you know i was watching a story of a guy moving down and and getting a job within two
weeks that's where we're at right now we're training up people that don't have a clue they
they don't know what a wind of net is or how to put a boat together in a race car so they'll get a job
and yeah if they listen to this hey get in touch with justin we're definitely looking last thing i'm
i'm i ask you is you guys want more money from
NASCAR, guaranteed money, as you should, because I've been a part of the sport, as have you,
and we saw the ratings slowly go down. They seem to a plateaued right now. But when we go to streaming,
we go to some of these other things, their ratings are unknown, and ultimately you're selling two
things, ratings and B2B, right? So let's assume NASCAR comes to you and gives you three more million
dollars per team. What's Chris Rice doing with that money? Oh, it goes riding a race team.
Matt doesn't take any of that. We, you know, I mean, they say, well, how do you spend more money?
in it. Well, it comes down to, you know, you're able to give more bonuses so people work harder.
I mean, we do a lot of things in our race team that people only realize, you know, we have
full one cage, we pay time and a half. We do a lot of things in our race team that's run just like
a business and it goes right into it. So we don't have to go, hey, leap field to go to protection,
give us, you know, X amount of dollars or action, give us X amount of dollars. We can now use that
money and put it in the race team, get you guys air conditioning in here since it's so hot.
or something, you know, that goes right back to the guys and girls at colleague racing to make us
faster.
Right, right, right, right.
So you mentioned, obviously, some charter is becoming available?
Is that of interest to you and Matt purchasing more?
Well, Matt and I talked about it, okay?
And if we, so we have done an awful job at building a sponsorship team or a partner team.
We have not done a great job at that because I'm a competition guy, right?
And Matt is a gutter protection guy, so we haven't done a great job at that.
If we had a better sponsorship team or not a better sponsorship team,
if we would have started where we at with Chad Lucky, Dan Pittman,
those guys that we have now that's working on that stuff,
yeah, we would love to have two more charters.
We would love to be able to do that because, I mean, it is fun racing.
That's why Matt does it.
He loves it.
He loves to have fun and he loves, I mean, I asked him the first time when he wanted to start a race team,
I'm like, why?
And he said, because it's bad ass.
And I know you got to bleep that out.
Oh, don't worry.
This is honestly.
Yeah, you're good.
But that's what he said.
That was what he said.
And he enjoys that.
Now, he doesn't enjoy doing what we did at North Wilkesboro.
I will tell you that.
That's the first time he's ever told me that.
But he does enjoy what we did at the Coke 600, watching those races.
So, yeah, if we could find the partners, something like that, yeah, absolutely.
I like it.
We're not for sale.
But we would love to have more partners.
And, yeah, the investors out there that wants to talk.
Hey, we love.
We're game.
Title of the show, not for sale.
So the Chris Rice that I heard stories of, I'm not going to admit to ever know on this guy.
He didn't mind throwing hands back in the day.
He didn't mind getting physical in the garage and pit road.
Ricky Stenhouse, 75 grand for throwing that punch.
Too much?
Too much.
I disagree with it.
And I'm on the NASCAR Foundation board.
So thanks, Ricky.
We appreciate it.
We'll use the money in a great spot.
But, yeah, no, let those guys fight.
Now, maybe, maybe the dad, maybe some crew members, stuff like that.
Because at the end of the day, that lift gate was up.
So here's what scared me to death.
Okay, so I'm a guy that, yeah, I do get a little angry when stuff like that happens.
But Ricky and Kyle stood there and talked, okay?
And they had a conversation.
And then Ricky just buried back and hit him.
I'm going to tell you, on USA Today, Fox News, I mean, on the Today Show, they talked about the fight.
Who won that race?
I don't know.
But Ricky Stenhouse and Kyle Bush, they got to fighting.
So we talked about NASCAR.
And then, so here's another thing that bothers me.
So Ricky and Kyle fought, and Kyle got some licks in.
What everybody don't remember.
He did get some licks in.
Like Kyle, Kyle fought back and like, I mean, he's,
Kyle's doing a lot better because he's not saying a lot about it or whatever,
but that's too much money to Ricky to then tell the guys,
how old you can take the gloves off, you can do whatever you want to,
because we get mixed, you know, we get mixed emotions and mixed thoughts.
I mean, you're kids, right?
Like, you spend a lot of time with your kids.
If you tell Brody that he can do something and then, you know, 30 days later, you can't do that.
Well, Dad, you just told me that.
That I could.
Well, not now.
That's kind of the way I felt about that.
You know, Ricky, I will say this, and I seen Ricky this weekend, but I didn't talk about it.
Ricky was super aggressive for it to be an all-star race.
I will agree with that, right?
And we know Kyle's not running the best.
Welcome, North Carolina.
We're still looking for speed.
You know, it is that road that we're all on.
right there that road we're going to change it to find in speed because Richard
Childress is mad and when Richard Chiris gets mad some things start changing you're just not going
to see it overnight but um and he knows Kyle's not running that well so like you push on a bear
you better be ready to get hit which I think is a good point because we talked about NASCAR
openly promoted all this parody and common parts and all this crap so if that's the case why are
two teams kicking everybody's ass well I think when it's
It's two teams, Gibbs and Hendricks, and they're the biggest teams in NASCAR, right?
They have the smartest engineers.
They're going to find the edge first, and it'll just trickle down.
It always does, you know.
The forwards have found some speed.
I think Brett Kiselowski's, you know, pumping a lot of time and effort into his team to be able to find the speed.
I spent a lot of time with Steve.
We're not going to his last name because I talked to him last time we talked about this,
but I spent a lot of time with Steve.
Newmark.
Newmark.
But anyway, so, you know, they're pumping a lot of time and effort into that.
So just to the reason they are is because of the people that have, right?
Like, I mean, you know, this is our third year.
This is our third year of full-time racing.
We race nine races the year before that.
We've won two races, I think, is a huge accomplishment for us.
But, I mean, Hendricks and Gibbs, Gilles and Hendricks right now are definitely dominating,
and they will for the future.
I mean, right now, because until we can trickle down the information.
But when we talk about dominating, they're only a two-tenths or one-tenth faster.
Like, it's not that much difference.
Yeah.
Which shows from a competition standpoint way, too.
I mean, that's, hopefully that will help TV ratings and maybe more fights.
We just need to pass, right?
Like, we talk about that all the time.
We need to figure out how to pass.
They can arrow block so much now.
And I'm telling you, as a race fan, you can't see the air.
So you don't know what they're doing sitting at home.
You know what I mean?
Like my dad is a racer, so he kind of understands it,
but he don't understand the arrow block.
So like, yeah, we got to figure out how to pass.
You know, we got to, I still, I'm on the bandwagon.
We need softer tires so they fall off.
It was a decent race at the 600,
but the tires didn't fall off until lap 32.
Lap 32 is when the tires really started taking a fall.
That's why you've seen people, the pitting so different, right?
Like about lap 32, 33, you see the cars really struggling to start pitting, which drags everybody else down pit road.
So you don't really see a difference.
Yeah.
We need a tire that is a Bristol tire, not as aggressive, but that lap three, it's already six-tenth slower.
It's slow down.
Right.
Lap 10, it's a second and a half slower.
You know, Darlington's was a good race.
I mean, yeah, the drivers hate them, right?
They hate those kind of tires because they slide around a lot.
Well, I'm going to tell you, I don't want to drive down an icy road, but I'm not getting paid to drive down that icy road.
You are.
You are.
You are.
All right.
Real quickly, back to Coke 600.
I want to know what do you think about NASCAR's decision to call the race after quite a bit of time of trying to drive the track?
They had no choice.
I don't know.
Was anybody there?
Was any of you guys there?
It was humid.
It was a lot of moisture in the air.
It's supposed to be humid.
You're in the south.
It just rained.
Is that a shock?
So what are you saying?
No.
I'm sitting on my couch of Moresboro, North Carolina, and it starts thunderstorm.
So you're saying call it as soon as it starts raining.
What the options are, okay, why do you think they waited so long to call it?
Well, they had to.
You don't think they wanted to get Kyle LarsonA lap to help explain the waiver.
You don't think they wanted to get him a lap for the publicity of it.
You don't think they wanted to give him a chance to, quote, drive to the front.
This whole extension in my mind as a race fan, as a promoter, if I were a humpy,
Wheeler and I ran that racetrack.
I'd have been jumping up and down going, don't call this race, let Kyle Larson run a lap.
But as a human being who grew up into Carolinas, who just had the same storm blow by my house,
I literally tweeted, y'all can leave and go to Big Al's, this thing's over.
And then what do we do?
It wasn't over.
We waited two hours.
So when the people were booing Marcus Smith and screaming nasty things at him, it's not
Marcus Smith's fault necessarily.
You're trying to do what's right.
You're trying to finish a crown jewel race.
But you knew when it started raining at, at, at, you know, and it started raining at,
9.30 and it's end until 1030. Best case scenario, you're racing to 2 in the morning.
Yeah, I didn't think of it that way. I didn't think of the waiver side of it that way.
I did think of it that they were trying to get Kyle in a car. But it's not NASCAR's fault that
Kyle went there. That's my, that's my, it was a decision they made to stay at Indy.
And dude was getting run top five if he hadn't spent on pit road. So, I mean, tell me that guy ain't good.
Like, I'm just going to tell you.
But don't you think that the fans would also be upset if they called the race?
then saw it stop raining.
You're not going to make them happy either way.
Exactly.
So I know I see your point, Brett, about all of the reasons why NASCAR would try to get
it in.
And we also, Casey, we didn't have all of our drying equipment.
We lent it some of it to Indy.
So it was a, I mean, you hate to say it, but it was, you're fighting a fight you're
going to win.
So let me, so you're, you're mad that they waited.
I'm not mad.
I know, but what you're, you're frustrated that they tried that they went so long
without calling me. Here's what I'm frustrated with.
Because you're happy ass had to stay up later.
No, here's what I'm frustrated about. He was at Big Ows weather. What did
Indianapolis do on the morning of the Indy 500 at 6 o'clock in the morning?
They held a briefing and they said, this is our weather plan. And then they held another
briefing and said, this is our weather plan. How many briefings did NASCAR hold after the
range started at the Coke 600? Oh, none. None. I mean, but we can learn from that, right?
We never get information until it's the hammer.
It's never, this is our intent.
This is what we're going to try to do.
This is what we're up against.
So who do you think makes that decision?
Who makes the decision to call the race?
You think TV makes it NASCAR or the racetrack?
I think it's all three.
And let's be honest, man, you run a business.
If you're Charlotte Motor Speedway and your employees showed up there at 8 o'clock that morning
and your state troopers showed up at 10 o'clock that morning
and you started pre-race at noon,
and now you're looking at two in the morning,
still be potentially racing,
and your employees have timed out
with 100,000 people on property,
what are you supposed to do?
Yeah, I mean, that's a good point.
If you're looking at TV and you missed the top of an hour
and it's 1103 instead of 1057,
and you're like, we're not starting back in this hour either,
now we've got to go to the 12 o'clock hour.
What do we do?
Right?
So, and then you look at it at the NASCAR side,
do you really want to keep your fans there
until 2 in the morning,
by the way, our fans party?
right you want to keep them there to two in a morning party and then send them home on man i i i just
couldn't and miss sitting in my living room and drinking my titos and water watching on tv i couldn't
fathom how we thought this was going to work and i called a lot of from people on twitter
saying you're just a negative ass i am you're right yeah yeah yeah but i also am a realist i know
how long it takes to drive these racetracks a when it's dark b when it just finished raining in the
south see when it's humid outside yeah so
So, shame on me, the 20 didn't lead the most laps, though, right?
Like, he got it on a restart right there, correct?
I mean, like, he wasn't leading before the caution came out there and they pitted.
I can't remember because I'm watching a 31 car.
I'm pretty sure he had run, he ran a good amount of laps leading.
He had the best car up until Reddick finally got sorted out.
Reddick was leading.
I think if they went back green, it would have been Reddick, then Keselowski,
them bell because man kislauski on the front end of a run nothing to be proud of back end of a run he was
flying yeah he's fast yeah he's fast that's it the 31 car was the same way and the 16 so here's what i'll say
every raindrop that falls always tell people this is 25 dollars for collig racing so they cancel a race
it is a huge huge uh undertaking because it just doesn't happen that night it goes on into you know
going into st louis or going over to portland or whatever is going to happen i would say you hit the nail on a head
everybody was getting a timeout.
You know, it's 10.30, 11 o'clock.
I mean, at best, they can get that thing dry
in an hour and a half.
At best.
At best.
That's if the sun's out.
If the sun's out.
Like, so now you're looking at two hours and 15 minutes.
It's after 12 o'clock starting that race.
You have people in surrounding areas that are sleep.
And then, like you said, the cops are standing out there.
They've been standing out there through the rain.
And, I mean, it's a lot that goes into it for the decision making.
But at the end of the day, they were trying because I do feel the dog.
with something that they wanted to talk about and they wanted to live and die home.
And I don't blame them because that's a cool, cool thing.
But I'll say this.
How is this different than Daytona, though?
You and I both remember being at the race at four in the morning when Coast 600 and Day 5.
NBC was committed to showing the fireworks.
This was NBC's first ever race, right?
Remember that?
Yep.
And the next day was July 4th.
And July 4th programming was already set, including the big night of fireworks.
So they told us point blank, we're going to run this race tonight.
And I'm telling you being there, I'm telling you being there, that was a fuck up.
It's three in the morning and we're still spotting.
I got up that morning at 10 o'clock.
Like, I'm not fresh.
The drivers, everybody, like, that was not, that was not in everybody's best interest.
But we did it for TV.
The TV's king.
But I want to say this about Kyle Larson.
He's catching a lot of crap about bad luck and rain and, you know, speeding and didn't make the lapse in his Coke 600.
The best thing to happen to him in points is that race didn't go back green.
Because they were going to pay out stage points again.
Again.
And guess who wasn't going to get any?
Him.
Kyle Larson.
Yeah.
I'm not heard anybody say that.
I'm sure it's out there.
Yeah.
Where did he end up?
Where is he heading points now?
He lost three spots.
He's third.
He went from the championship lead, which is worth 15 playoff points to third, which is worth
nine playoff points.
Which you want to bet he gets it all back.
I don't know if he'll get it all back.
I'm just saying.
Are they going to give him a waiver?
Like, this is what I'm curious about.
Are they going to give him a waiver?
That's next on case of she.
Well, I do want to ask.
I mean, Algeyer being, he had no idea this was going to be the outcome of the race, right?
He didn't even tell his wife and family to show up because he didn't think he was going to drive.
He didn't.
Exactly.
I mean, what do you think of his performance and really having to jump in when he, he doesn't really have many laps in this car, if any, like a driver from your team, if they were having to do that?
How would you take this?
Yeah, so I'm going to use Justin Haley because I, I, um, I'm going to use Justin Haley because I,
I'm a Justin Haley fan.
Whether people believe that or not, you know this.
I'm a Justin Haley fan.
He done a great job for us last year.
Kyle Bush got out of the Xfinity car,
and we had to run the Xfinity car after the Coke 600.
And, you know, he took that car and ran it into top 10.
And he done a great job because I felt like he'd done what he needed to do.
He didn't wreck it.
Ran all the laps.
I think ran out of fuel there at the end, so he missed it by one lap, I think, or something.
Still run top 10.
I'll tell you, I'm a Justin Algeyer and I,
have became friends and I'm an Al-Gaher fan.
He's great.
He's greatest guy in the garage.
Yeah, and we wasn't for a little while because we wrecked each other and he would get
mad at me and, you know, I respect that.
But now we, when he wrecks, I text him to check on him.
Like I do because I think Justin Al-Gyar has paid his dues.
I think he is one of the guys that has probably, I don't want to say underrated,
probably would come into sport when it was tough to make it in the cup side.
he was thrown into Penske, you know, young kid.
Like, you go back and look at me as a young kid.
I think if he was thrown in five or six years later,
it would be a different conversation about him, right?
So I think Justin gets a A for what he did.
I think he, you know, he had to learn a race car.
He was asking a lot of great questions on the radio.
And Cliff Daniels is probably one of the best ones in the garage right now.
Thank goodness Cliff's one of my friends.
And he gives him a lot of information.
But I would say Justin,
gets an A for his effort because I think he was going to finish in the top 10.
I think he was going to have the race car to be able to finish in the top 10 and do what he
needed to do to get those guys the car owner points that they needed.
Because don't forget, everything really goes off of car owners, right?
They get paid off of car owners, so they're still probably leading the car owner points.
So they're still leading that.
They'll be in the car owner, you know, no matter what, even if Kyle doesn't get a waiver,
they'll still be in the car owner points for the championship.
So he did what he needed to do.
He rode around at the back.
I know everybody was probably laughing at him to first, you know, 20 or 30 labs
because he was riding back there trying to figure out how much brake to use,
how much straddle to use, how much to turn the stern wheel.
They had the camera on that dude, and I was watching that in-car camera sitting on in 31 box.
He was never nervous.
If you go back and watch him, he was never nervous, which is he does drive the wheel force car a lot,
so that gives him a lot of time of that.
But he gets an A for me, but that whole team.
gets an A for me. I think that team, Cliff has that team where it needs to be. Throw Kevin in there.
And they never missed a beat. You know, Kyle came in and had a shot to win at the end of that race.
So that team, I feel like Cliff Daniels has got that team where they need to be.
We're going to take a quick break. When we come back, we'll continue chatting Coke 600 weekend.
Spot on, spot off.
Spot off. Spot on.
Spot on. It was super fun yesterday to ride around there.
I am spot off.
Damn.
Where do you come from?
First topic.
Kyle Larson expected to receive a playoff waiver after missing the Coke 600.
Chris.
Well, yeah, I mean, they've done it for everybody.
I mean, have they not ever not give one?
Not that I remember.
Right.
So, I mean, why is it even a conversation?
Why is it even a conversation?
Like, I mean, obviously Rick Hendricks is a smart dude.
Jeff Gordon's a smart dude.
They didn't do this without.
thinking that this could happen.
So I don't see.
It's not, it had never crossed my mind until you guys started talking about it today.
So let me ask you this.
Do you think they already knew that NASCAR grant this waiver when they decided to stay?
No, we don't.
No.
Hendrick has a lot of power.
Sounds about to say easy.
I mean, they changed the race at the All-Star race.
They moved the race 30 minutes.
They added Jeff Gordon to the playoffs.
They added Jeff Gordon to the playoffs.
So I'm sure he knew more than what I'll probably know, a colleague racing will know.
but yeah, I mean, I don't even think it's a conversation
and I don't think anybody should be mad that he gets one, honestly.
Chase Elliott gets hurt, snowboarding, he gets a waiver.
Kyle Bush misses what eight races the year he won a championship,
he gets a waiver.
What doesn't get you a waiver at this point?
If you're arrested, maybe?
I don't know.
Maybe, maybe, but you're normally suspended if you get arrested,
so that's a...
But if you get suspended, i.e. they suspend Bob Wallace.
He still gets a waiver.
He's suspended Chase Elliott.
He still gets a waiver.
There you go.
So what, I sit here and look at this thing.
I forgot Bubba got suspended.
Yeah.
That was Freddie's fault.
But I sit here and look at this thing and it's like, did Kyle Larson and Rick Hendrick opt to not start the Coke 600?
Okay.
So let's think about something here, guys.
They opted that it was a lot of money put into that IndyCar race.
They didn't have another driver.
They had Tony Kinnon.
Was he approved?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So they did have him.
approved everything was done okay well I don't think he would have looked good in a hendrick
cars.com shirt I mean and we know Rick paid for it all like it was not a I'm sure
Chevy had some stuff to do with it and all that but like it was a hendrickcars.com race like
I mean that's a lot of cash so if you voluntarily miss a race you voluntarily missed the start
of a race can we agree he voluntarily missed the start of this race because I just saw your face
I want to know where your head's at I mean I never I don't think about it that way so
You think about it as a total different harder way than I am.
I mean, that, now, now we're talking, now we're talking, that, man, they getting in,
they might not get to lawyers involved.
NASCAR, that is.
So remember when we had a rule that you had to be top 30 in points, and if you won a race
and you were outside of the top 30, you were not playoff eligible.
That rule's gone away now.
Well, because we have charters.
I realize that, but I'm saying that rule's going away.
Now if you win and you're a full-time driver, you're in.
Right.
So what they're trying to prevent, and I get what they're trying to prevent,
they're trying to prevent drivers from skipping races.
But did Kyle Larson just skip the race?
He skipped the race?
Well, he tried to not skip the race.
He tried to get there in time, but it rained.
He didn't try to get there in time.
He would have got there in time.
No, but he made an effort.
He still got to the track.
Wasn't his fault that he got hit by the same storm twice.
Oh, my God.
Casey, he did not try to make the Coke 600.
You're talking about the green flag.
You're talking about the, okay.
You are correct.
And write this down.
everybody. Somebody told Brett that he's correct.
I'm just looking at this
as why do we have
the Fri-Waver?
If you're, if you make the playoffs,
then you're in the playoffs.
Well, you know what?
If we, NASCAR,
which is not our decision.
It's NASCAR's decision. If they don't,
hey, they need to stand by it.
But if they give a waiver, I wouldn't
even worry about it no more. Just say,
you can come race when you want to. You win a race. You're in the playoffs.
That's what's happening here either way.
Yeah.
He and his car owner elected not to start the Coke 600.
They elected to do something else.
Whether that's going deep sea fishing or whether that's starting to Indy 500,
you elected not to show up.
But it's a good, I mean, it's good for NASCAR if he does make it there.
The double is good for NASCAR and it's good for Indy.
And you want to work as good patriots as in business, right?
So what happens next year?
Roger Pinsky owns Indy.
I know.
Don't forget it.
He owns a racetrack and the series and he won a race.
So let me ask you this.
into that one. Let's go into a hypothetical. Let's say next year six drivers want to run the double
and all six select not to go. Well, I heard, I've heard of three that have an opportunity to run it.
Do sure. Yeah, but, but, but all right, now they don't show up. Well, that's three drivers that
are going to get a waiver. Why, what are we doing with waivers? Just do away with it. But you,
okay, Brett, other side of it, you are one who speaks to NASCAR needing to do a better job of
trying to expand their fan base, trying to get more people to watch NASCAR.
Indy car fans are, I mean, same same, right?
You're trying to get those fans as well.
So if you're NASCAR, you would be okay with this, right?
Because you could want to talk about fans at indie?
You think they go watch a race?
They're going to watch the Coke 600 to see how large it does.
Do you think the people that are at the Indy 500 go to watch a race?
So you think they go because they've been going for the last 30 years and the atmosphere and the electric?
I mean, how big it is, all of that.
What do you think?
Because I know I just got off a phone with somebody.
And they interviewed multiple, multiple people.
Do you think they go to watch a race?
Or you think to go for Carb Day?
You think to go for that stuff.
What do you think they go for?
I mean, they do a great job of trying to capture many fan bases.
Here's my thoughts on the Indy 500.
The Indy 500 has an amazing fan base.
IndyCar does not.
Indy car ratings will go.
You just answered your own question.
Indy car will go down to 250,000 viewers at their next race.
I don't even know when it is or where it is, but that's what it'll have.
It's the Kentucky Derby of racing.
Who won a race leading up to the Indy 500 in Indy?
I have no idea.
Do you know?
You can't Google it.
You would have cheated in school if you were to ever, like if they had phones back when you went to school.
Can't Google it.
No.
I don't either.
Do you guys know who won?
Nobody knows who won a race leading up to Indy?
Nobody.
Do you know who won at the All-Star Race?
Yeah.
Joy de Ghana.
Oh, I thought it was Ricky Stenhouse.
No.
He won the 75,000 on a part-hour.
Yeah.
But listen, my point is I was talking to somebody that's on TV.
They interviewed a lot of people.
They go for the experience.
And we were talking about how can we and NASCAR make Carb Day, right?
Carb Day is a pretty exciting time.
It is.
They got pit crew competitions.
It's a lot of things going on.
How can we do that?
So I do believe that the people that go to Indy 500 will watch NASCAR.
I think they'll watch that for the racing.
I think they go to Indy 500 for the atmosphere.
But guess what we used to call Carb Day?
every track we went to. Happy hour.
Don't get into this because I disagree with you on that.
Listen, back to the Kyle Larson thing.
I think he gets a waiver.
I don't know if he's deserving of a waiver based on the decisions he made.
He cost his team two spots in the standings.
He fell from first to third.
It could have big implications on a playoff.
He'll get it back.
I'm not too concerned.
When he gets it back, he will get those points back.
When Justin Algar,
guy got in that car and he drove it up to where he drove it up to once he got comfortable.
I literally was sitting in my living room going,
what if Kevin Harvick would have started the race in this car?
He led.
Kevin would have you think?
Yeah.
I think Kevin is in a different mindset now.
Yeah, but I still think he's, you know these dudes, man.
They got a disease.
They strap that helmet on.
They lose their minds.
They do have a disease, but I think Kevin is smarter than he's ever been in his life.
I will give Kevin props to that, and I think he has what you and I have now.
We say we can do it, but we get in there and it's just a different world.
He said that when he got out of it.
He says, you know that two or three tenths I'm off right there?
That's those them guys.
I can't do that.
I can't do that.
I will say it's awesome that Kyle was running the double.
I hate the weather, screwed him up.
There's something else we'll get to and what an idiot segment about that whole experience,
but I'll save that for later.
Oh, joy.
Well, continuing on, spot on, spot off.
Denny Hamlin should have just parked further back in his box
to avoid any pit road issues with Chris Bisher.
Brett.
Man, it's easier said than done.
You know, pit road's tight,
and those guys are coming in there at 50 plus miles an hour,
and you expect him to literally stop on a dime and hit their sign.
Pit Road's always been a part of this,
and where you qualify has always been a part of this.
Pit selection's been a part of this.
I just think that's a big part of racing that you can't afford to make mistakes on pit road.
but I'm so glad I get to talk about this.
Oh.
I am so glad because I'm not on podcast where there's a lot of people listen to a lot.
This is about the one.
I do this one and another one.
There's the only two I do every year that you invite me back.
But he shouldn't be mad.
He shouldn't be mad.
That is part of competition.
You block the guy in behind you that you're racing against.
Don't, hey, you got to know this.
Chris, you got to know this, that he's going to do that.
that Chris Busher and that team played that scenario out before they ever came out there when
they decided to pick in front of them. I'll tell you, the 31 car is sitting here and the 22
picks beside it all the time. You know why? The 31 car out qualifies the 22 a lot and he picks
in front of them thinking that he's going to be running worse. Well, guess what the 22 had to do
all night? Drive around the 31. Back to 31 up all night long, really never got the fussing.
It was the same scenario, same situation, because I'm going to tell you,
Joe Lugano, he pit it back because you know why.
He wants to beat you.
Joe Lugano is the hardest guy to pass on the racetrack and the hardest got to pit around
in the pit stall.
So I think that that is part of racing.
And if you're mad, man, so be it.
You just know when that Chris Bush pits in front of a few down.
Or next time you pit in front of him and you do it to him.
Pit road's hard.
Pit road's hard.
It's part of the competition.
It is part of competition.
Well, spot on to the civil conversation that they had after because I know that was
a hard time.
Denny didn't listen.
I wouldn't listen if I was Denny either.
I didn't listen.
You didn't listen.
Hey,
I love Denny Hamley.
I think Denny's speaking in his mind
is one of the best things that can happen.
I agree.
Sometimes.
Who do you think is the hard?
And I say this in reference to
when Jimmy Johnson got here
around 2000, 2001,
he outworked everybody, man.
Who's the hardest working driver right now,
you think?
Hardest working driver right now?
Talloretic.
Taloretic is by far the hardest
working driver right now
because he don't want to fail.
He doesn't want to fail for Michael Jordan,
but he doesn't want to fail for himself.
You know, Daniel Hemrick works really, really hard,
but when we talk about,
you want to talk about who's up top, who's winning, and all that.
I got to give it Tyler Redick, you know.
Then he works hard.
You know who is so fast?
It probably doesn't work as hard as who?
Martin Tricks Jr.
He doesn't have to a workout regiment.
Like, he's never had to do that.
Like, and he's just good.
He's just, he's still good.
Like, I watch that dude.
Like, he's still good.
It's like, he doesn't have to do a lot.
But, you know, Ross Chastain works really hard.
Like, I mean, William Byron works really hard, you know.
I thought it was really cool in a documentary when Ross put on the flippers and he swam across the lake.
And he came back.
And in the interview, he was like, I don't know if that makes me a better race car driver or not.
But it's not going to hurt.
Josh Wise told him he had to do it.
But it's not going to hurt.
No.
Before Talladega, Daniel Hemrick, Josh Wise, and him, they do a 72-hour fast.
So I said, you know what?
I always try to do stuff.
my pit crew. I've been big health nut, whatever. And I said, you know, I'll do the 72 hour fast with
with you. Dude, I made it an hour of 40, like 40 something. And I literally thought I was going to
kill six people. I said, I'm going to eat. And I went and got Chick-fil-A and ate it, and guess what
happened? It went right through me. So let me go and tell you, do what they tell you to do when you're
coming off a fast because you don't want to go get Chick-fil-A. It is really not good for you.
But yeah. All right, last one. Crown Jewel races should be required to run the schedule
distance. Spot on, spot off, Chris.
Spot off. It costs me money.
Like, it doesn't, we know rain could hamper that.
Now, if you want to put rain tires on us and make us go running the rain, that's fine.
But it doesn't, I don't think it should have to run the full distance.
Like, I think it's, we have rules in place that this is a lap we've got to get to that makes
it an official race.
It is what it is.
No waivers.
I think, I agree with you 100% once the race has started.
I also agree that we have to follow the rule book, which says,
or the end of stage two, it's complete in the event that we can't continue.
However, I am of the belief that you should not start the race if you don't think you have an
opportunity to get the full race in.
I agree with that.
And they're doing a better job at that.
You know this as well as they canceled a race somewhere and everybody was tweeting whether
the sun's been out since, but they couldn't have made the distance.
I don't know where we were, but it was one of the races early on.
But I agree with that.
Me too.
Well, we come back from the break.
We'll hear y'all's thoughts on reaction theater.
Now it's time for your favorite part and my favorite part of the show, Reaction Theater, where fans get to call in and be heard.
And shout out to our sponsor, Consumer Cellular for bringing this segment to you guys.
Yeah, Consumer Cellular has fast, reliable nationwide coverage leading carriers, but with plans starting as low as $20 a month.
And for a limited time, new customers receive their second month free when they sign up and use promo code month free by May 31st.
Let's go to the call.
So after hours and hours and hours of extended research, I have determined the,
of five angriest people in the world.
Number five is Casey when she gets interrupted all the time.
Number four is PJ when he has to give an opinion and can't stay neutral.
Number three is Freddie when they don't sell beer after the race.
Number two is Brett when South Carolina loses to Clemson.
And number one has got to be Austin Hill when anybody races him hard in any way, shape, or form.
Because for a supposed tough guy, man, he cries all.
lot.
Did he see that guy swing at
Martinville that time?
Talking about Austin Hill.
When he popped my Snyder?
Yeah.
I ain't never seen him back a hit Howard.
Yeah.
If Ricky was a $75,000 punch,
that's a $1 billion.
$1.1 billion.
I will agree.
He does get mad when South Carolina loses,
which is a lot lately
because they don't spend any money
to get the players.
You've got to spend money to get players,
we've got no money.
That's why.
So, Austin Hill.
a lot of people are saying he's going to get in trouble for a wrecking customer.
I said to another driver, another driver texts me and said,
what do you think they do to Austin Hill?
My response was nothing.
What do you think they do to him?
Probably nothing, but, you know, here's the thing.
Richard Childress and myself agree on this.
We talk about this a lot.
Don't use our race cars to retaliate on something somebody else did to you.
You handle it outside the race car.
Ricky Stenhouse, prime example.
You know, so I disagree.
Caution's been out for a minute, you know, end up wrecking.
I disagree with that.
And as a team, I'm going to be upset.
And my driver, Ryan Truex and Ryan Reed did that at Iowa one time.
I thought they were buddies.
They were.
They were.
But they got mad at each other, and they started door slamming down the back straightaway.
And Ryan Truex, you ended up helping the guys fix it, taking care of it,
all nine yards.
And I respect that.
But, yeah, you don't use your race car to tear up somebody else's a race car because you're mad.
But they didn't pound.
analyze Kyle for intentionally wrecking Ricky.
It was under green.
Fair.
I got a question for you speaking of fights.
This segment is supposed to be going fast.
I'm fucking out of your.
Tommy Baldwin and Ryan Newman are screaming at each other in a modified race.
When I tell y'all, they said, fuck you a lot of times.
A lot of times.
In their prime, you're taking Tommy Ball and or you're taking Ryan Newman.
And obviously Tommy's coming off a big bowel cancer.
But I'm talking like Tommy from 2000s of Ryan Newman.
from 2000.
Tommy's quick, man.
He was quick, but so was Ryan.
Man, that's going to be, if Ryan gets a punch in, Tommy's out.
But if Tommy gets a punch in, Ryan's going to have struggle to get back,
because he's a little, you know, he's a bigger.
Both of those guys, when I've seen that, my first initial thought was, Tommy, come on, man.
You just battle cancer.
You almost lost your life.
Yeah.
Like, hey, I know it's your kid, and you'll do anything for your kid.
I don't know what happened in the wreck or whatever.
But Ryan Newman is still a big boy.
Like he's still a big boy.
And out of respect, don't push Tommy.
You know he's, you know.
I didn't agree with that part either.
Yeah, don't push him.
You know yourself you could ball him up.
I mean, right now he's fragile, right?
He's fragile.
He's lost 80 pounds it looks like.
Yeah, and I love Tommy Baldwin and Ryan Newman.
I don't know what happened.
I don't know what happened.
I have no idea, but it didn't kill either one of the drivers, so it couldn't be that deep.
It was entertaining.
It was entertaining.
I pay the watch it.
I watched it 10 times.
Yo, so hear me out.
New rule change.
for every caution lap that gets run throughout the race,
if there's a green-white checkered,
instead of it being a two-lap overtime,
however many caution laps have been run through the race,
that's your overtime period.
So it's kind of like stoppage time in soccer.
Soccer.
I'm confused as hailed.
So basically, if there's, like, in soccer,
if they have to stop the game for anything whatsoever,
they will add stoppage time at the end to make it fair as far as timing goes.
So I think what he's saying is if it's a long, if it's a race that has a ton of cautions,
add it to the end.
No.
No, but just think we don't stop.
We pit.
Right.
We give them water.
Give them a Snickers bar.
There's still strategy behind it.
It's still stuff going on.
It's still strategy.
So it's never a stop.
Now, red flag, if you want a good thing about that, but that, man, I'm confused.
Don't ever compare racing to soccer again.
Oh, please.
Please.
sitting here, rain delay, storm delay for Charlotte.
There's an opening to finish the race.
And all I see on Twitter is Brett Griffin,
and complaining.
Oh, they should call it right now.
Go to Big Al, go do this.
Oh, now they should complete every race.
Oh, my God.
Bro, just shut the fuck up, please.
You're about to be shocked.
I'm just glad you guys.
Every time you do this,
you sit there and look like a f***er.
idiot at the end.
Please, somebody hire him.
Give him a full-time job so he can be too busy to do this bullshit.
I got this.
He won't work, so you can't hire him, so we'll take that one out.
Secondly, he is an idiot before he ever starts talking.
So it ain't at the end that he's an idiot.
It's way before he starts.
I got a text at 10.30 on the morning of the Coke 600 and asked me if I wanted to spot.
I was like, I needed like a month's notice on this, bud.
I can't show up in six hours notice.
Was it a 44 car?
You live here.
Was it a 44 car?
I needed to mentally get my head right if I was going to go spot Coke 600.
You're reading you.
You're seeing what all those guys have up there now, iPads.
Oh, I've seen it.
Yeah.
Like, I don't know how they spot with all that going on.
And listen, I'm going on, I know spotter's been in the, the, this is a spotter show.
Coleman Presley is probably the best one I've ever heard in my life.
Sorry.
Yeah.
Sorry, Brett.
But Coleman Presley, no wonder Joe Lugano is so hard to pass.
Right.
like because that's yeah yeah and it's like and joy's willing to
crazy not every driver elia sadler wasn't throwing all the blocks
uh-uh he'd throw one he's blocking now but he
he wouldn't do it in the carloweer would throw one block he ain't throwing out of
clint boyer when we won um the race with ross chastain and Daytona we led
40th throwed blocks we led 49 out of 100 laps and clint called me after race he said
please tell me you wasn't encouraging all the blocks and i said 100% I was he said
you's gonna get him wrecked and i said i was going to get him in victory lane
so the difference is though not every driver will throw them
blocks.
And if you got one that won't throw it,
there's no need telling them.
No need, yeah, no.
AJ ain't throwing all the blocks.
Now, so he will not go to work, sorry.
And he looks like an idiot before he starts
texting, so all of that doesn't matter.
And I was right.
They called him a madman.
They called them a Debbie Downer.
They call them everything but a child of God.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Brett was right.
Brett was right.
We weren't going to go back racing.
It kind of really sucks.
It does suck.
It really sucks.
There was a tease.
Best race, I mean, he's the best track.
It was best track this season.
Longest race of the season.
And it got cut so short.
And the racing was great.
The racing was great.
They didn't think so in Jeff was cold.
These are Casey's people.
What?
Y'all out drinking together before they call in?
Me?
Why would I agree with Brett?
No, these are your people that's calling in.
These are definitely your people.
Why?
Because you can hear them talking like, like,
Like, I believe they were either just left Big Isles or they had a long day on the lake.
Let me tell you, I can't drink.
So there's no reason why I need to be at Big Al's anymore.
What time she's been to Big Islew?
When I took her for lunch, bought her a meatball sub.
I, I, yes, Brett, you were right in your tweet, but I think people would have complained if they didn't try.
Yeah, it's me again.
Just another sad guy about the race being belated.
I thought I'd make you a little song.
I'm no singer.
Tell me some slack.
Dude, sit around and I thought about that for a long time.
I don't think it was a bad decision, so I don't think you're right.
Solid song, though.
Great song.
You can't sing.
You were right there.
He cannot sing a lick.
We cut your slack because your audio was bad.
You didn't have dirty moe to do your audio.
Hey, happy Memorial Day and God bless our troops.
I wrote y'all another song this week.
I heard y'all wanted more songs, so you can listen.
They went trash.
Dryin, some flying,
They spend 2.7 million
Just to pay for that jet fuel
But them fans showed up on real drunk
And to no surprise with Joyce bun and turn to
Donald Trump showed up
And the Democrats are crying
and Kyle Bush
Toot it for Biden
That's funny
You had to play the guy before him
And then play this guy right
That was the way you picked it
Pretty much
That dude because he sang
He could sing pretty good
How cool was that Trump was there, man?
I thought it was cool
I wish Biden to come this weekend
I think it's awesome on the come
My daughter, Elizabeth, is a huge Trump fan
And I mean, I don't get into politics that much
but like she's a huge, so she came down.
And so I got to hang out with Richard when he met him.
Like when, so Richard met him at his motorcade or whatever.
Yeah.
You know what blew me away is all the agents and everything it took,
everything it took just to walk that guy down pit road.
Right.
Like all the crazy stuff it took just to walk that guy down on pit road.
Moving to these people, moving that.
And I literally, when he walked on pit road, Elizabeth, myself and Nate, her future husband,
we walked behind him.
And I'm like, dude, this is weird.
Yeah.
Like, let's get out of here.
So I took a right and got out of it.
It's crazy.
They do the security work in advance.
And then that crew briefs the next crew.
Then that crew comes in day of and does it again.
And then he lands with his own crew.
Like, it's a big undertaking.
And they flew over with his plane.
And let me just say this.
I don't think a political dignitary showing up at a race makes it a political event.
No, absolutely not.
He should be able to go watch baseball, as should Joe Biden.
Yeah.
I mean, if they want to go to something,
and they should be able to go, and I don't think it makes it political.
100% not.
I think it is, I think it's just, you know, I mean, they're out to get votes, right?
That's what they're doing.
That is their job to go get votes.
Biden goes to his places to get his votes.
Trump goes to his and whoever else is going to run.
Kennedy, whoever else is going to run.
They go get their votes.
Where would you go to South Carolina?
I think I could win that.
I mean, Shane Martin is a dagonal senator then.
I think I could win in South Carolina.
If he can win, if he can win, I mean, anybody can win.
I would probably go to Myrtle Beach.
Dirty Myrtle, everybody, Chris will be there.
I don't, I have nothing to say on that one.
I like a picture is Brett holding up a vote for.
If I ran for office, it'd be like Hermie Sadler trying to run.
Like he just did.
I know, he tried to.
I told him it was the dumbest thing you could ever do.
And he looked at me and said, why?
I'm like, do you want people to talk about what you did 25, 30, 40 years ago?
No, I don't want anybody to talk about what I did.
No, uh-uh.
No, absolutely not.
All right, we had some solid calls.
Thank you all for calling in.
I please stop saying Brett is right.
This could be the only time.
This would be an agreement.
Don't forget, leave an audio message 247, 704-802-9572.
You know the drill.

Moving on to hashtag, ask TBC.
Use the hashtag whenever you want to ask us a question.
Y'all have been sending in some solid ones.
This first question is from Jerry.
do stage breaks defeat the whole concept of the Coke 600 being an endurance race?
Chris, what do you think?
No, it doesn't.
It allows the race fan to be able to take a break.
That's what the stage breaks come up for.
It didn't come up for us.
I mean, it allowed them to take a break.
So no, because it's still 400 laps, 600 miles.
That's a long ways on our cars.
Like, I don't know.
I don't think it does.
I don't think it does at all either.
I don't love those stage.
where they're placed because there's not many guys that can run along and make it work.
You know what I mean?
Like you said, that first guy that comes at lap 40, man, he's going to leapfrog two guys if they
don't come immediately.
So I almost would like them to do something weird.
Like first stage break is lap 50.
You know, the next one is 200.
Like put some long green flag runs in there.
You want to see two pit stops.
I do.
I do want to see two pit stops.
And I was sending you thinking about it, how you could do that was if a tire fell off.
Yeah.
You know, and like at Richmond, you do the stage in two pit stops.
Yeah.
You can do it in one.
But you're really slow.
You're really, really slow, but it does.
Like, you're right about that.
Yeah.
I'm right again, Casey.
You're welcome.
Whatever.
This next one we talk.
Freddie's not here to disagree, so that's why he's right.
True.
This next one, we talked about a little bit, is from Jesse.
Should NASCAR change the rules regarding driver swaps and allow the team to decide whether
the starting or finishing driver gets the race point?
I mean, they can't.
The starting driver has to be the guy who gets the points,
which in Justin Algaier's situation,
he's not point eligible.
So the owner of the car still gets the points.
There's not a lot of flexibility that I can give here.
But like I said, what an idiot's coming.
No, they shouldn't change it.
That's simple.
Okay.
Next one is from Shannon.
Do you think the Coke 600 rewards consistency
throughout the night or bold adjustments more?
Bold adjustments.
Why?
Well, because you got to keep up with it.
It used to be a lot worse, you know, day to night now,
but bold adjustments, they got to keep up with the racetrack.
You just said it.
Tyler Redick had got his car really good.
So, yeah, I mean, they have to get after these cars to make them change.
They don't just change, you know, just a little bit.
They have to get after them.
Casey, the Denny Hamlin Bracket Challenge is back.
They're taking the top 30.
two drivers in the point standings, head to head, last one surviving wins.
The tournament at Casey actually stretches over the course of the next five cup series
races.
It begins in Gateway this weekend and runs all the way through one of my favorite towns,
Nashville.
And if Freddie was here, he would say Denny's great.
But what's even cooler is this year, Arctic Outdoors signed on to provide the prizes.
So Grand Prize winner gets a prize pack that features Arctic's,
72-quart ultra-light wheeled cooler, the 30-can floating soft cooler, and more from Arctic to keep your drinks cold this summer, plus tons of dirty-mo media swag.
In addition to the grand prize winner, 11 additional winners will get the Arctic 52-quart ultra-light wheeled cooler along with a tumbler and can chiller.
Perfect for those hot pool days.
That's awesome. It's free to sign up. The bracket is open now and closes at 3 o'clock on.
Sunday right before the green flag at Gateway.
Visit dirtymomedia.com slash bracket challenge to enter.
What an idiot.
All right.
Who's our idiot?
You want to go first?
No, you go first.
So Tyler Mon spots for Kyle Larson.
Tyler Mons spots for Kyle Larson in every single lap that he runs in a Cup Series car
ever since I don't even remember when.
basically it was since Kyle got to Hendrick.
So Kyle Larson's spotter is doing...
When Kyle, yeah, yeah, that's right.
Kyle Larson is doing the double.
He took his spotter with him to Indy,
and his spotter, Tyler Mon, was informed
before he got back to Charlotte,
that when he arrived back to Charlotte,
he would not be allowed to spot.
Why?
I don't know.
That's why that's my...
What an idiot.
Like, how can you take...
And Chris's...
We just said you can substitute drivers.
What are you going to do if the spotter has a heart attack during the race?
We ain't going to let him have a sub?
What are you going to do if the spotter has to go shit during the middle of a green flag run?
You ain't going to let him have a sub?
Yes, Chris.
I know why.
Rosters.
Rosters.
But you should be able to make a sub available on your roster in these scenarios.
Not for a spotter.
We can and pick crews.
Why not for a spotter?
Because you guys sit on a stool up there.
That's not my point.
Well, you ask me why not?
I told you.
Well, what if somebody has a spotter?
family emergency, which I think there's been...
You can.
You can.
If they have a family emergency,
you know, something that happens to the guy,
whatever, you can.
But here's the situation.
He decided not to be there when the race started.
You just said it a little while ago.
He didn't decide he couldn't get back here.
He don't have his own airplane.
He decided to go to Indy.
He did decide to go to Indy, but he couldn't get home.
Hala?
He couldn't get home.
He's stuck.
Well, and so he was stuck watching a race
if he went back green.
I think it's ridiculous that his
literally his NASCAR Cup Series spotter
can not spot for him a NASCAR.
This was my question I posed
and nobody told me the answer.
You remember this when I spotted for you
is we sent a dummy spotter,
not literally a dummy, but a spotter.
Somebody that wasn't going to talk.
Somebody that wasn't going to talk
to the spotter stand to check in
and I wouldn't sat up top of turn one
where you could see the whole racetrack
because it's a better spotter stand
than the actual spotter stand, which is uncommon.
But I was curious if he would have been able to
quote, do that.
Oh yeah.
Yeah, he could have.
Yeah.
Because they can't tell you who talks on a radio.
Yeah.
So he could have stood up and did that.
It shouldn't have been an issue.
He should have just showed up and just started a spot.
He could have been like a suite or something.
Is that?
Yeah, a suite or a way.
I can go up and stand.
Like, well, I don't know if they could have.
But I mean, they let a, I've done some cool things being a president,
but I could go up and stand and watch, you know, so yeah.
You used to couldn't, but you might have can now.
Because when that whole thing happened years ago.
Yeah, you couldn't.
Yeah, you can.
Roger Pinski and all them guys off.
Because it used to be, believe me, you remember this,
you'd have to get up there at a spotter stand.
You have to elbow your way in around the owners and the general managers and the dads.
Yeah, we can't go to the spotter stand.
What I'm saying is he can get up there where you can get up there where I could see.
Yeah.
I went on the cool, one of my coolest moments ever, and I know this is what an idiot deal is at Darlington.
I was talking to Richard and he says, hey, I said, where are you going to go stand here?
He's like, I'll go back here on the back stretch.
I said, okay, cool, I'm going to come back here and see you during the race.
So I did.
I go back here and I'm standing up here and I'm standing up at Richard.
And then it's some people with sniper guns over here, you know, watching.
after you, whatever. And I'm like, all right, I watched a little bit of the race, and I got off.
And I'm going back into, going back into tunnel, and I look, and Richard's sitting up there, and it's
Earnhardt Tower. And I'm like, if you're a race fan and you're standing with Richard Childress on the
Earnhardt Tower, it was pretty cool. I will say this as a sports guy. I don't mean this with any
soccer analogies, Casey. I know you're a big soccer advocate today, as is Kelly Crandall, who
listens every week. But as a sports guy, if I'm standing on pit road with you on top of your
pet box and your spotter either A sucks or he's having a bad day you should better look at me
and put the next guy in. That's what Matt Collick said. He said you should better change him out like
they do football. I agree 100%. Yeah. I agree. Yeah, I agree. So my what an idiot is Freddie for being
over 40 going to a bachelor party. Are you kidding me right now, Freddie? Who's bachelor party is it?
Is it who I think it is? He's already not my, he don't like me so I'll just make it. Freddie,
how can you go to a bachelor party over 40?
In the Bahamas.
In the Bahamas.
Like most bachelor parties are...
You think he's laying out in the sun?
You think Freddy's laid out in the sun?
100% no.
No?
You should try calling him, but he's not...
He's laid up in a casino or at a pool.
Yeah, sure.
At a pool, but he's laid out in the sun.
Well, but the pools, that pool's got cover.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
You've probably been at this pool.
Would you not agree that's a pretty good?
What idiot?
Listen, I've never heard of anybody over 40 going on a bachelor party trip.
Well...
His whole life's been a bachelor party trip.
party. I was curiously, he does it every weekend. It's a bachelor party every weekend. Why are you
got to go to Bill? Billy, Billy went to Chad's. Chad's dad went to his. Did he? Yeah. That makes
sense. This is his dad. I mean, I feel like. Freddy is not this guy's dad or any blood relative.
Did your mom go to your bachelor's at party? She did. Okay, that's your mom. I know, but like.
Did you have a 45-year-old woman go with you? No. No. Exactly. I don't know. I think
Freddy's just here for a good time. You think?
Oh, it is way too hot in here.
So let's move on to DVC picks.
Hey, I had these race fans beside me said that you suck at your picks.
But I had the nicest race fans ever parked at beside me.
She sucks at her picks?
No, you do.
No, look, I'm leading.
Brett, congratulations.
You won with your pig for Coke 600.
Taking picks for Gateway.
And Freddie called in Ross Chastain.
So Freddie's pick is Chastain because he's,
first.
I will.
Can I pick for T.J.?
He's already sent me his picks.
But let me pick for it.
Don't let him use that one.
Because he was too late in telling you he was going to be gone.
He told Freddie at North Wilkesboro he wasn't coming today.
He didn't tell any of us.
So I guess he was just going to not show up.
That's my second.
What an idiot.
I didn't know until it was on that text where he was just, this was going to
I didn't know.
I'd like,
I'm the one who's always here.
I text Freddy and I'm like,
T.J.
ain't showing up tomorrow.
He said, yeah,
he told me in North Wilkesboro.
He's not coming.
I was like,
that's awesome.
Chris, I'll take your recommendation
and I'll go with Byron.
That's a big gun.
Sweet, that is a big gun, but I think
he'll, can she take it back?
No.
Wait.
She's committed.
So I shouldn't?
Are we, are we letting T.J.
Are we letting Chris pick for T.J.
Who's T.J. got?
Who's T.J. say he won't.
Let T.J. pick for himself.
He'll cry.
So, he's got, his number one pick
is Kyle Busch.
Well, I would do a pick for him.
Which I think is ridiculous
because the Chevolades are not that great.
That's why I got thinking about
after I told you that.
on the short track package yet.
But the best one has been the 24 car.
The old ones I was going to pick or gone.
Well, if I lose, you're my name.
I'm going to throw a crapshoot here, a guy who's,
and then I think it's funny when drivers say,
we're racing for our jobs.
You need to race every week like you're racing for your job,
not just when you're actually racing for your job.
I know who you're going to pick.
I'm going to Josh Barry.
I knew it.
I knew you was.
I had to.
Do you think he would be a good Xfinity driver now that he's run a year of cup?
A better Xfinity driver?
Well, here's the thing about Xfinity car.
as you know, there's so much more different,
they're so much more complicated
the setups, and
they're harder to drive.
But I think having been around all
these guys on restarts and having to work all this
dirty air, if he came back, he would
absolutely be a better Exfinity
driving on what he was. Somebody asked me that the other day,
believe it or not. Yeah. Just, I mean, once you
go to Cup, you can't leave there worse.
Well, I guess there's a few on there that I'd argue
could or would, but
anyways,
moving on to Gatewood.
this weekend. Chris, how are, oh, I don't, I don't want to know. How are you prepping for this weekend?
I'm going to Portland. I'm going to Portland, Oregon, uh, with our Xfinity cars. We have been doing
the Portland to St. Louis. Um, this year we're not because the Portland races a little bit later.
So that was a pretty long trip to do that. So I'm going to Portland. Excited about Portland,
but excited about Gateway also, St. Louis. Um, I think Daniel Hemrick has,
is hopefully with this new deal that they found
and help him at these short tracks
because we didn't look too good at
where we at?
All-Star race.
So I'll be in Portland.
Hopefully we can, you know,
put a nail in a coffin from how we were doing at Cota
because we, our mile and a half stuff and all that,
I know everybody.
We're not that good right now,
but we knew that was going to happen.
I think I told you that last year
as we kept going downhill.
AJ, being AJ is going to get us better, you know.
How much pressure is on you to win?
in Portland. More than you
never imagine. Portland and Sonoma back
to back. We got six
three brand new race cars
and six total bullets
going out there. So yeah, more than
more than you imagine. Logistically, how hard is that
trip on your truck and the hauler
driver and all that? Our haulers are
gone from when they leave
today, Tuesday.
It's when the show was aired
when we taped it. So Tuesday they'll
leave, they'll be gone until after
Iowa. Holy cow. And when
I'm thinking about meeting them in Iowa with the New Hampshire cars.
So they'll, because, you know, I mean, it's halfway.
It's logistic.
No, it's a little.
This is awful.
Like, this is, the Portland thing is awful.
How much money do you spend?
Because I know you probably roughly know.
I'm not talking about it on a race team.
Like, just what are you spending to go on this long trip right here?
Oh, each car is right at, um, if you put everything together, it depends on a very wreck,
or don't wreck, a little over 220.
Wow.
I've heard Exfinity Persis may get better next year.
I think they're going to be between 12 and 15% better.
That's good.
Yeah, that's good.
That's good.
I mean, we need to be.
That needs to be.
A lot of people don't know that.
We don't know that, even though we got to CWD.
We have no idea until the charter agreement gets done.
So who just texts me when we're sitting here?
Was it Steve Newmar or Mark?
Newmark.
Newmark.
Yeah.
I showed Brett.
I'm going to make sure it's spelled right in your phone.
It is.
Yeah.
St. Louis is, I'm telling you, one of the coolest.
racetracks to go to from a fan experience.
They have a lot of country artists and a lot of cool people coming.
They kill it, man.
Yeah, they kill it.
Then I think Iowa does it best for IndyCar, and I think St. Louis does it best for a house car.
You see Iowa only paved like two thirds of each corner.
They didn't pave the whole corner.
Wow.
Entry or exit?
Well, it's kind of like entry in one corner, exit at another corner.
Yeah, it's kind of weird.
It's weird how they paved it.
Well, it's good that three guys are getting to get extra practice today.
Those guys are not good.
They won't be any good when we go back.
They run back.
No, I didn't think so either.
Oh, we're opening up a whole other can of worms here.
Anyways, thank you, Chris, as always.
Thanks for doing this.
I hope we can have enough downloads that I can come back again next year
because I like it once a year, but after that, I'm, you know, I'm done.
Yeah, well.
I have six people that have downloaded, so that's good.
We'll smooth you and Freddie over and have you back.
Yes.
Can Freddy be here next time?
Yeah.
Unless there's a bachelor party.
I feel like we need some, like, mediation between you two on
show next time we had some at dover and we started we started making our gain so the
healing process has begun yeah it has begun so once he follows me back i'll yeah i'll be i never
unfollowed him because i don't believe in that stuff i agree that's like a 12 year old i've had to block
people for the first time ever and hey enjoy you bourbon i will thanks for the woodford reserve
kentucky derby edition yep you know i collect bourbon i have every weller's nail i have
good every pappy's nail um and i'm actually working on i'm
I'm working on Whistlepig, but they keep bringing out new stuff.
Whistlepigs are pretty easy to get.
Diva Q can get you those.
Yeah, whistlepig's pretty easy.
But I like it when it's hard to find.
You know that.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, thank you all for listening.
Casey, you did a great job hosting.
Is this sarcasm?
No.
I don't know.
I need like a popsicle or something.
It's very hot in you.
You guys are getting a new studio out here.
I hear Dirty Moe Media is expanding.
I think we're building like this $10 million dollar deal right off 77, 485.
beside 2311.
Dale Jr.
was getting ready to buy a charter,
but instead of buying a charter,
he's building y'all a facility.
He's building a big studio for us.
Yeah.
Hey, Dale might want to, let's, he might want to invest.
In what?
Dale's got my telephone number.
Call me up, Dale.
Hey, when you have these,
these DBC deals at the racetrack,
you know I'll come help you out anytime.
Yeah.
If I go to the racetrack,
I'd love you somewhere.
Usually it's me, Freddie and T.
Oh, okay.
Well, I'll help you guys out.
I'll go to Oklahoma.
And after that, I don't know what else.
And your backup spot is SVG.
You can't be a backup spotter.
They got to be the primary.
You can't have backups.
Well, if anybody wants to listen to a solid conversation,
tune in to their scanner.
Yeah, it'll be fun.
He'll make you smile, that's for sure,
and you know I love that.
Absolutely.
Thank you guys for listening.
Have a great week.
We out.
Hala.
Check out dirty mode media.
