Door Bumper Clear - Freddie Says The New Stage Rule Misses The Whole Point

Episode Date: August 10, 2026

Door Bumper Clear is back with Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin, Karsyn Elledge and Spire Motorsports crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion to break down another busy week as NASCAR returns to Iowa. The crew... digs into the Iowa race weekend, including the strategy, passing, and how difficult it was to get around the leader in the Cup race. They also get into NASCAR’s new stage caution rule, why Freddie thinks NASCAR may have fixed the wrong problem, and the bigger issue of how long stage cautions have become. Tommy and Bono sound off on the Truck Series, from inspection and body rules to the potential move to single-lug wheels and the cost of constantly changing the rules. Plus, the crew debates NASCAR’s upcoming schedule, the way races are being announced, Carson Hocevar’s take on the current state of NASCAR, and whether the sport is really “on a ventilator.” And, of course, there’s plenty of racing stories, arguments, laughs and classic Door Bumper Clear chaos along the way. S*** Show Hall of Fame, Ask DBC and Weekend Winners round out another can’t-miss episode. Want more DBC? Check out and subscribe to the new DBC YouTube channel! Starting point is 00:00:00 The following is a production of Dirtmovie. This is the first time you've read the fucking sheet all year. A bird's shit on my head. That is what reaction theater is for. Getting hammered and calling in. What did they speak? Go. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Wax and crescent. It's going to be gripped up. Absolutely. It's two idiots. Bubba did not do shit, unfortunately. Period. Hey, what's up, everybody. Welcome back to Door Bumper Clear.
Starting point is 00:00:36 I'm Freddie Crafts, potter for Bubba Wallace, and Dean Thompson this week. Tommy, how was, I mean, fuck, how's retired life? Sending pictures from the fucking lake during the race, you had so. It wasn't during the race. It was right before the race, baby. Well, I was hurrying up, getting to where I needed
Starting point is 00:00:52 to get to get to to watch the race for the show. Oh, sorry. I was it for the show. I had to get off the lake and go to the bar to watch the race. I apologize. Tough times.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Yeah. How is it? I mean, I know. Dude, I was wide open all week, man. Getting ready to. I'm just saying, but I'm talking about, like, not being there this weekend. And like, oh, I guess you weren't there at indie either.
Starting point is 00:01:11 No. Yeah. I'm good. So you're getting used to this now. No fomo? Yeah. I was testing. Yeah, it was nonstop.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Did you go to the 24 hours of Hickory on Saturday? Well, it started Wednesday at Hickory testing, right? Then Thursday testing the modifier. And then Friday racing and Saturday racing, I was busy. Yeah. Carson, how was your week? I was going to say, when I encountered him at Hickory on Saturday, I said, don't cause me any problems in here today.
Starting point is 00:01:36 And he said, I'm just being a dad. So he didn't. You know how many times I've heard that? Yeah, I know right. The next thing you know, I'm writing a penalty report for Tommy. No. I actually, I actually just for the record, it was porn.
Starting point is 00:01:48 I went home. Yeah, I don't blame you. When I text you that, I watch it from the TV. You're not there. Yeah. It seems like every year, just that race. Why don't we just move it? Let's, you know.
Starting point is 00:02:00 To what Sunday or another date? It's all you think it's just the date. Yeah, it's a day. Yeah. Because we have so. many dates to choose from. Speaking of seeing Tommy do dumb shit, Bono Manion is in the house today, Kevin.
Starting point is 00:02:13 I was just looking at a picture at Tommy. The Muppet, Tommy. Yeah. Muppet Tom. That's from South Boston. Don't start. I don't get in trouble. I'm just being a dad. No, that's not being a dad. That was crew chief. Oh, that was crew chief.
Starting point is 00:02:26 With the late miles, everything else. Yeah, that's not your stuff. He sits back, relaxes. How are you certain as things going? I mean, we'll get into the two of you here in a minute. Unlike Tommy, I have a job. we'll start there. That's a good start.
Starting point is 00:02:41 This is not going to go. So I don't even know what's your official. Is it a competition director now? What the hell are you on over there? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just kind of part-time crew chief. I've got one more race coming up at Loudoun, crew chiefing.
Starting point is 00:02:55 And kind of competition director between keeping the two of the teams working together. So new role this year and having a lot of fun trying to understand everything that role details, you know, but yeah. It's been fun. Had this weekend off, but was paid for it. Can't beat that. No, I mean, like, everyone, what are you going to do on your off week? You know, a couple weeks ago to come.
Starting point is 00:03:17 I said, man, we're off every weekend. I don't know what you're talking about. So we race Thursday and Friday nights, a couple Saturdays and no Sundays. So the truck series is... He's in a retirement. I remember that when you went to, I think it was the KBM was the first truck deal. I was like, this son of bitch just figured out how to get every Sunday off. Yeah, no, it's, it's been a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:03:35 I got to start. I've heard this story. from one side a hundred times i don't know they've ever heard this story from the other side tell me the story about how you two idiots ended up down here well it's a good story it's a good story um it's been told years ago and it's kind of been forgotten but um um you know we raced modifides obviously um and and it was we used to come down on vacation and i wouldn't call vacation just charler speed weeks, Tommy and I a couple times and a lot of fun. So it was, we did, I think we won the last race at a year unmodified with Park at Thompson. And I dropped Tommy off in Auburn at the airport.
Starting point is 00:04:18 And I went home, got a bag. And we went to see, we went to Miami for the first race at Miami with Sacks. And from there, Sacks thought he had a deal. So one thing led to another, Tommy called me on a, shoot, I don't know, Thursday. I'll say, I'll be there in the morning. two trash bags of stereo my pickup and I got on the last ferry and put a four sale sign and Tom Sr.'s lot there and we
Starting point is 00:04:43 drove I think your dad's truck and trailer down and tried to save the goldfish. It was cold. Oh, I don't think I mentioned that. Yeah, the gold. Tommy, T3's goldfish didn't make it. We buried it right behind the Occonnell Lodge on exit
Starting point is 00:04:59 30, 28. I woke up. Well, it was, it was... Wait, for, like, legitimately a fish. The one thing, little Tommy asked me is like, bring the goldfish and please keep it, you know, then he was little, you know, so we had, we, it was fun because it was right in between us, the whole trip,
Starting point is 00:05:17 but we take care, but we feed it, messing around with it, right? So we unloading around with it. Well, I mean, you know, keeping it alive. I mean, this is the first... We'll play it with the goldfish. Yeah, this is the first response. I can't believe you didn't tell the pot of the cold.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Yeah, this is the first responsible thing, Bodo and I really had. It's the first response. responsibility was the goldfish. Not Tommy, the goldfish. And it died. Well, we left it in the truck and it got cold out and I woke up about sick. The goldfish.
Starting point is 00:05:44 So I run out and that some bitch was floating. Was he frozen or just? Yeah, it was frozen. It never gets cold in North Carolina. It's a goldfish. Couldn't you just get another one that looks like it? I think Tommy did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:58 95. 95. I think. 95, 95, whatever. Yeah, 95. Dale, Dale, text me last night, talking about a trip you guys took in.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Was it 97? He said his, I think it was his first race, maybe, or not, maybe first. In the Dooley? Yeah, he said, he wore you out with some CDs the whole day.
Starting point is 00:06:18 So I felt like the, it was myself, Dale, Jr. Some boy they call one man gang, a little bit heavy feller, and Wesley. And I was like the oldest one at 20-something young
Starting point is 00:06:33 And we get in a duly And we're headed to St. Louis Well, you know When I get on a road trip It's 10 plus hours We got to run, you know So I'm like, man, we're going to stop and get gas We stop get gas, that's it
Starting point is 00:06:43 We'll make good time This one man gang says, We got to eat I said, all right, we'll hit a fast food joint No man, I'm talking a pancake house, sit down I'm like, all right So we ate And then it was like, I need a gas.
Starting point is 00:06:59 So I go in to pay with a credit card. I come out, Dale Jr. is in the driver's seat. Doors are locked. He says, give me the keys. He says, we're going to get CDs. Or you're staying here. This is how I remember. I don't have a good memory, but it's pretty close to this.
Starting point is 00:07:16 So we drove to the Walmart or Target wherever, and he'd come out with a walkman or a disc man, whatever they're called, and a pile of CDs. And he just sat back, listened to his music, and we end up getting the rest of the way, I think. We broke down one time, but we drove there and we drove a few places, you know, old school stuff. But it was a lot of fun, a lot of good memories. I just can't imagine the goose, you know, back nowadays, you think about going to a fucking bush race in a goose next trailer.
Starting point is 00:07:39 No, it was a late mile, right? No, no. It was a bush car. Yeah. He said that race put me on the map. You know, that was my first opportunity. And he said, it kind of helped us all. But he said, yeah, I rode, he said, I probably drove bono crazy right there.
Starting point is 00:07:53 No, it was a lot of fun. Anyway, what else is going on, Tom? How's, how did the boys do this weekend anyway? Like shit. Well, I saw Luke finished. Well, Luke did okay. He was running six in the modified race. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Two modified races. He finished four. No, no, I'm talking about Saturday night. Yeah, yeah. Now he finished 10th. Luke ran two modified races this weekend. He just, it's just can't get a break this year. Dude, that pro race was not his fault.
Starting point is 00:08:14 What else is going on? It's inspired these days. You know, truck racing obviously is what you're up to. I mean, obviously, things are going pretty good on the other side, too. everything on the up and up over there, I assume. Yeah, no, everything's good. Like I said, I didn't watch a whole lot of racing this week. Went to the beach, but it looked like the Cup guys had a tough, tough day yesterday at Spire,
Starting point is 00:08:35 but getting ready for trucks this week at Richmond, got Tristan McKee's first race. So he obviously went out there in Iowa. I'm sure you talk about that. Yeah. But, yeah, we got to test with him a couple weeks ago on his 16th birthday, and definitely looks like he's got a lot of speed. lot of talent, you know, still a lot to learn. But yeah, definitely somebody that we're putting all our time and effort in.
Starting point is 00:09:01 And I think you'll see a lot of him. What do you want to talk about the cup race? Not really. Do I have to? I made that, you know how much I fuck up. I made the biggest fuck up. I've had it a long time yesterday. Was that you?
Starting point is 00:09:13 How? You gave him the wrong lights. Missed the light. No, just missed the light change. So was you. So you fucked it up. Yeah. It's all me.
Starting point is 00:09:21 I mean, not all me, maybe, but it's 90s. 5% me. It's just, you know, it's the first, the first section is really like that little bit of corner coming around there. So we run, I don't know, a different light there. And I just fucking, I was so worried about not passing the pace car because you're leading, you know, something like, just got to keep reminding him, don't, don't beat the pace car to the line. That's a penalty. So I'm like, don't beat the pace car. Don't beat the pace car. And we were right in a perfect storm where the 33 had to come around us. And he was just far enough behind us to where he was going to be a problem for us potentially.
Starting point is 00:09:55 And so like, and it's fucking drives me crazy because it's like one of the things I like pride myself on his awareness on pit road and where to, you know, don't get too far left. This guy's going to turn in front of you or whatever. And so, and I usually like call Charles, I'll call us in the box and then I'll call the 33 into the box for Charles on Channel 2. So he knows this guy's coming around. So I'm fucking focused on making sure Bubba doesn't pass space car. It was close.
Starting point is 00:10:18 I'm like, don't pass space. I'm yelling at him at the line. So then as soon as he gets through the line, I'm like, all right, we're good day. let me find the 33 and as I found the 33 I called 10 away I start calling it and he starts talking I can't hear him because Charles was cutting him out of box and then I realized I'm like I fucking missed that first light change looking for the 33 and just I mean it fucking killed our day we we ended up going from we were first we were leading to we were going to come out because the guys did two we did four we were going to come out I don't know 10th but we we we come out last obviously
Starting point is 00:10:52 penalized. Bubba drives back to 15th, but the problem was it put us in a bad spot on pit road where we had to come around the 4, because the 4 was running well. Then the 33 came around us. We went from 15th, right back to 25th because we were blocked in. So it just fucking destroyed our day. I mean, we fucked up all year and it's just my turn to fuck up this week, I guess.
Starting point is 00:11:11 But hey, you got it out of the way. Hopefully you're not calling Tommy this weekend and find out what doctor made of that. We can fucking hang out of the bar this week. Yeah, but you know, just it sucks. It is what it is. But yeah, so that killed our race. And we ended up getting back to 12, but it's just what could have been.
Starting point is 00:11:27 We were really, really strong. There was two or three or four what could have beens, but we'll talk about it. It was a, it was a, in my eyes, it was probably one of the most enjoyable strategy races. Well, let's get into it, but it changed throughout the day, man. And it was awesome being a crew chief standing on that box yesterday must have been awesome. That's all I. Was this the first race where they did the stage, the new stage rules too? Yeah, but it did nothing.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Nothing really. No. We'll get into that a little while. Okay. But yeah, I mean, it was a fun race. I mean, it's always fun when you got a really good car. And we passed, I don't know, I felt like 800 cars yesterday because we started 26th, drove to the lead, started 28th, drove to 15th, started 25th, drove to 12th, drove to
Starting point is 00:12:19 12th or whatever it was. So it was just a day, a fun day for me. I mean, not fun because I was pissed off of myself all day, but it was fun to pass cars and be able to do that. And I thought, like, at the end, I know people are going to bitch about not, they'll not be able to get around the 54, but it was,
Starting point is 00:12:33 it wasn't like, you know, he was able to get around Blaney earlier in the race. Like, so you could pass. I just think Ty did a really good job of blocking or arrow blocking or whatever. As frustrating as it is, you still have to have that defense as part of your game and they executed really well.
Starting point is 00:12:49 end of that race, I thought. Yep. You want to talk about O'Reilly race? I mean, it's getting a good day again. It's getting a little boring. I mean, this building is stinking up the show. I mean, I would just call it their Earnhardt Junior series. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:13:13 I mean, this guy's, they're doing a good job, man. I mean, they're executing every day and, you know, every week. That's crazy. I mean, look, I feel, I mean, can we talk about it now? I mean, I feel that Saturday's race kind of set up a little bit of thought process for everybody for Sunday what happened. How when you got to the leader, it was so hard to pass. I know you mentioned a little bit earlier with Bell getting to tie, but there was something there, man. It was like once you got to that fastest car or the leader with the cleanest air, I mean, you've seen it once they got into lap traffic, that stopped, right?
Starting point is 00:13:51 There was a chance for things to happen, but that leader really had control it. And surprisingly, even with the Xfinity car, or Riley car, rather, it was doing the same thing. It wasn't kind of like, you know, let's get on his left rear, knock him out of the way. They were doing it off the corner, right? Even the cup guys were getting them a little loose off. But I think Saturday's race really gave the crew chiefs for Sunday a little bit of different thought process. and the race was going like normal. Everyone thought, well, we're going to have to do four tires every time, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:25 something. And then Alan, Alan changed the race. When he stayed out there and that, you know, nine cars stayed in position, stayed in the top five there, that run. It totally blew everybody's game plan out the window. And everyone had to decide on doing different things. And the guy that made the gutsy's call, obviously, was the guy. that won at the end.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Yeah. I felt like it was almost harder. Like I thought it was harder to pass on Saturday for the lead than it was on Sunday, which is the complete opposite of what we've seen all year. I feel like the O'Reilly cars have been much more. You could be on offense a little more. You could get to a guy. But like I thought, I thought Sieg was maybe the best car.
Starting point is 00:15:11 It was good. And but he kind of got stuck behind. I think it was Ross. And Ross is obviously one of the best at manipulating your, air, so maybe that had a lot to do with it too. But, you know, he, I just felt like those guys had a hard time. And I, it's, we've seen it now a couple weeks in a row where
Starting point is 00:15:28 Clements was really, really good at Indy. He was good, again, Saturday, too. But they, they don't have, like, Junior Motorsports, they have everything. You know, they have the pit crews. So, like, these guys, like, Seeks leading the race, wins the first stage, going away, comes down pit road, comes out eighth, and now he's, it's an uphill climb the rest of the day for him.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Same thing happened to Clements at Indy comes down Pit Road. They come out eighth. You never really see him again. It's just like in that series especially, like there's such the gap on pit road, I feel like, that you see the has and have-nots where the junior motorsports guys, the RCR guys, they can kind of hover around 10th
Starting point is 00:16:06 because they know when they come down pit road, they're probably coming out in the top five no matter what. Yeah, it seemed like there was just one groove with both series that if the leader could run by the time that second place, you know, the guy who got to second who was trying, that one groove, if he could run that, you would not, unless you're going to get knocked out of the groove off the corner or getting in the corner, I don't think you were going to pass them.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Yeah, we kind of did the same thing. The Blaney, you know, I knew we were really, really good on restarts. Like, our shit fired off. We'd pass three cars every restart. So I, but like the initial start, we drove from, I don't know, 26. I think we started to like the top 15, top 12, and then we kind of bled back a little bit. And I was like, all right, we got a short run car today, but, you know, whatever. And then we got to the lead.
Starting point is 00:16:52 And I'm like, all right, we'll see now. And then we got out. And then Blaine started running us down. I'm like, oh, fuck. Maybe we just, and then we just kind of run the same line he was running and just started creeping away. Because, you know, you just, it was kind of take the hair away. It's just, it was that one, one groove that if that leader stayed in, it was going to be hard. Bono, what do you think about watching these races nowadays, Cup versus Xfinity?
Starting point is 00:17:14 I know you get to watch most of those. O'Reilly, sorry. Bush. Bush. I'm still nationwide. You're just a racing product you see what's being Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, you know, so I do watch quite a few to races. Like I said, I listened this week more so.
Starting point is 00:17:31 And I did catch the end of the O'Reilly race. But, you know, I think there is a lot of good racing. Right now it's dominated in the O'Reilly series by Junior Motorsports. And it's dominated on the cuff side by a Toyota's for the most part, you know. So they both got it going on. when you have them seasons, you're just going to take advantage of them, you know. So, but yeah, there is good racing going on.
Starting point is 00:17:56 I wish I would have got to watch all of Iowa on TV. Because listen on the radio, I know it sounds way more exciting, but. It does. I'm going to do an unbelievable job. Yeah, and we all know that. But still, it sounded like a lot of passing, and I was more interested in their new rule,
Starting point is 00:18:14 whether it'd come into play, and how's that all going to work out? but it's still, you can still short pit if it comes out before 10 to go. And obviously in the series I work, and the stages are shorter. So it even is more like, do we need that ruling truck? Not really. But are we going to have it? Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:31 So. Yeah, I mean, what's the stage length of Daytona? 12 laps. You know what I mean? For the trucks. I mean, it's three heat races in the trucks. But I'm saying that the stage is probably fucking 20 laps of Daytona if it's even that. It's 20.
Starting point is 00:18:44 I mean, obviously, that's been six months ago. and I can't remember yesterday. But I think it's 20, 40, and then 60 at the end. But, and like NASCAR said, this is a work in progress. You know, I don't think it's going to be, well, every week is going to be something different. But the difference in racing in the Cup and O'Reilly and all that, you know, I do watch it. I am a fan as well as the crew chief, but I do watch it to also learn and to watch good racing. And, you know, we're talking about the difference on pit stops.
Starting point is 00:19:12 You know, like, how, where do you guys get your truck crews from? Because I know, like, a lot of teams now, the Cup guys are just doing the Cup cars, and then you kind of left a fend for yourself on O'Reilly or Truck guys. Well, we're only having two full-time teams and a part-time team. We still use Hendricks for everything on all pick crew stuff. But when we had four teams, we had one from Track House, you know, a couple from Hendricks. And then there's always there's some what they call five-lug guys out there that just stick on five-lug and not really associated with a Cup team.
Starting point is 00:19:44 or if they are, they're just backup. And there's some few independents that also do it for just extra money and extra time they're there anyhow. So, but a lot of the cup teams do have, you know, definitely kids right out of school to train them and put them on teams. But like you said, we do, what we do have, A-program Cup teams. And some do actually truck on Friday. They'll do J.R.M. on Saturday and then do Hendricks Cup on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:20:14 so but then there is strictly cup only guys that that maybe have only been brought up on a single lug and and never even changed a wide five or a five on five patents so they're just they don't want to get them goofed up so they just leave them on single lug and you know rumor has it or or down the road that the o'reilly's and trucks will be on single lug at some point you know oh god yeah that'll be a fucking social clip this week let's get a them going. Let's get him going. I've been kind of aggravated on
Starting point is 00:20:50 the show a little bit on the inspection process with the truck series. Man, there's a lot of body stuff going on. And they're getting ready to do some more stuff right over the winter that's going to like why, Bono?
Starting point is 00:21:06 I mean, as what why? And the most aggravating thing to me always on rule changes is they always have changed the rule after everybody finally has done it, right? Everybody has it, number one. And number two is they make these rules and they go home. They have a nice dinner.
Starting point is 00:21:26 They go to bed. They don't think about anything. And then we, the team's got to spend. They have no idea how much money it costs, right? They have no idea of your business model. They have no idea of your budgeting. And they're like, all right, hey, you're going to have to cut your body off and build all new inventory next year because we want a rule change.
Starting point is 00:21:48 True. True. 100% true. So you being unemployed might be able to go down there and help them. Yeah. There we go. Can you tell Tommy's been working on a truck this year? No, you know, the truck series is a lot of fun and still a lot of hands on, right?
Starting point is 00:22:03 Cut some bruises and stuff. And that's kind of what I love about the truck series right now. It reminds me as close as it can to our chance two days in the first. Bush series where all you do is work and work on the truck. So the biggest problem we have is, yes, is the bodies, the outside of the bodies, how they look, how they look different from a manufacturer to manufacturer to a top tier team to a, and it's the same thing. The good guys, the fast guys are going to be fast, no matter what rule changes they put in there,
Starting point is 00:22:34 yes, it's going to cost. We went through every truck last year. We had to cut the body off, every single truck at the chassis blasted because we got outside the box of, you know, the rules in place. I mean, and we have to, the truck series has to take some ownership. We just can't, you know, when you're pointing your finger, there's three pointing back at you that, like, it's not all NASCAR, right? But with the limited, you know, they penny pinch like our race teams do, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:00 we only got three officials. That's all we can afford this week, right? And it's not true, but that's, that's the, you know, what we get. So hopefully there is, by no means, is there an ownership group? group or nothing, but there's a group that we try to put together to talk about these group changes to go to NASCAR as a whole and say, do not. We want a flanch fit body. We've been begging for it.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Oh, we can't put it on this chassis. Why not? Yeah. You can put it on an archa chassisie. You can put it on Xfinities, O'Reilly's. O'Reilly. We all do it. We all do it.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Very sponsor. So, so please, please, I'm begging five star whoever to build a body and we'll make it fit, you know. And they definitely have had one or two meetings over the last couple of years. We don't, my opinion, we don't meet enough. You know, we are the, I hate to say, the third fiddle, but, you know, you start to top. Then you go to O'Reilly's and then the truck. So I definitely think that a flange fit body, you know, they're talking, we said single lug,
Starting point is 00:24:03 but they are talking about that. Factual for, you know, you heard 27, 28. Now I'm here in 29. Let's first get some bodies on these things And then maybe let the O'Reilly's move up And then at least some of them parts will trickle down to To the trucks for a couple of years But yeah, it is it is painful
Starting point is 00:24:26 And they're talking about more rules for next year That we're going to have to cut the bodies off again Because you see one guy does it Then the next thing well he took a quarter inch I'm going to take a half inch and the next guy You know then I don't I don't think the rules are strict enough at the track. You know, we did have one truck load up this year.
Starting point is 00:24:44 I was going to say that one looked ridiculous. That was, that was a mistake, right? A mistake for that team to bring it. My opinion, right? Yeah. I mean, obviously, they didn't think so. They brought it.
Starting point is 00:24:55 But it did, in their mind, fit the templates, but they never even got to get, they got in the template line and somebody said, turn around. You got another one? Yeah, go get it. So, and if maybe if, We did that more often, you know, and, you know, there's no fix in some of that stuff
Starting point is 00:25:14 when you get to the track. Even, oh, it doesn't fit. Well, we'll just, we'll just add in shape, and they're still illegal. Yeah. But here's the problem, Bono. The problem is, is they let it go for three, four years, okay? They didn't check all these templates that they were supposed to all these years and have their put their foot down in the beginning.
Starting point is 00:25:36 And then we take, we take, we take, and we take. take and now we got it and now it's like well now you're gonna have to well you did it no you did it because you didn't check the templates and it's our job to make these trucks as fast as or cars or whatever to make them as fast as we possibly can now it's at the point the point is right now is it's like look if there's going to be flange fit bodies coming down the road is there going to be new chassis and bodies coming down the road let's look at the window where everybody's trucks are in right now take the max truck, take the min truck, figure out what it is. If you're going to have two or three teams have to calm down a little bit, so be it,
Starting point is 00:26:17 they're the ones that are way out of the box. But don't ruin it for the whole truck series. Don't cost the whole truck series. It's millions of dollars of labor, parts, and pieces that they can just, like, do a little bit more homework and make it work. Bottom line. I think we know what Tommy should be doing. And if you ever get a chance,
Starting point is 00:26:41 if you don't know exactly what these guys are talking about, if you ever get a chance to walk around the truck garage, there are certain trucks you can look at it. It looked like they've already backed in the fence before the race starts. And if you just look at them straight off in the back, you'll be able to know exactly which trucks they're talking about. But it's every week. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:57 And look, half the truck field can put that Bono's body on, and it's still going to run the same because everything else on the truck. Right. I mean, look, let's just, let's, let's, like Bono said, the same guys are going to win. The same guys are going to figure it out and going to do it. But just look at it in an overall cost of the field, right? Help the guys out. And just to be clear, Spire has the best record of getting through tech the first time.
Starting point is 00:27:27 So, I mean, are we egregious in some area? Sure, but at least it has to look. Yeah. Something you could go down the street here and buy. You haven't been kicked out of line. before you even go through the templates? Well, this year, this year. No, no, no, really.
Starting point is 00:27:40 For the last two years, we've had the best record of getting through. So you're working on your templates, and they all fit. They might not like them, but they fit. Yeah. That's your job, though. I've been, I've asked this question a couple times to our series director. You know, if there's a 50 templates and then 25 written rules that are not templates, why can't we just tell each team, hey, this week we're going to check these 20,
Starting point is 00:28:06 template. Tell us before we go. Tell us Thursday. You know, tell us Monday. A, so we can be prepared and they fit. We get through tech quicker. That, no, that is, you've, what about the other 25 that you're going to work on for that week? No, no, the next week you check another 25. And then, I'm just saying, how many, how many templates is there? Problem is, if you blow the dust off the ones you haven't seen in three years, that's what I'm getting that. But that's what they did. But if they, if they use every template, but we'll go to a whole year, maybe never use a template. I'm just telling you, if they just tell you what they're going to check, that way you know, all right, they're going to check every template in the book
Starting point is 00:28:40 and every unwritten rule or written rule that's not a template. You know, and I think that... They need to simplify it. End the story. Sure. Simplify it. Stop making it so... Flange fit bodies.
Starting point is 00:28:51 I get a stomachache going through truck tech. The blood pressure goes up from... God, the blood pressure doesn't move for a minute. It's just like 127 over 72. And my blood pressure never changes. That's insane. I don't think. It doesn't.
Starting point is 00:29:05 I sent them to thing the other day. I think when I got you. It doesn't change when you're at the doctor's office. At the racetrack is probably a little off. It doesn't change at one reading. Anyways. Schedule announcements. Some stuff came out for 2027.
Starting point is 00:29:18 They're slowly rolling out. Two dates, Talladega, 425 and 1031. Two at Atlanta, which I know we kind of have talked about that. Some on the podcast. Like if, you know, Atlanta is maybe one where it ends up going back to one if it deserves to. What have you guys kind of thought as this stuff has rolled out? I just hate the way they're doing it.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Like, just put the... But I think they're trying to give the... They're giving the tracks that are ready a chance to go ahead and start promoting. I'm sure they probably have... But I haven't seen anything from the tracks other than, hey, we're racing on 425. Like, if you want to do that, that's fine. Like, if you make it a concerted effort to like, all right, we're going to fucking have a big announcement. Taladega is going to announce today that they're going to run these races.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Yeah. one's a Halloween. We're going to fucking, you know, do something. But like, first of all, like, some of the dates I don't love either. But just the fact that we're just trickling them out where I don't even know what's getting announced when or like. Just wait. Just wait.
Starting point is 00:30:16 But, I mean, it's just. Freddie, just wait. I know. But what you're saying is they should have said, okay, Taledega should have did this. Big old press release. Like, if we're going to do it this way. 25% off on tickets if you buy them today, right? Something like that.
Starting point is 00:30:28 If we're going to do it this way where it's free hot dog and a Coke. Right. At Martin'sville. Like I said, if we're going to do it this way, it should be on the tracks to make it more of a production at least or something because I feel like it's getting lost. I think I can go over to this corner. To me, it sounds like they just went ahead and released their dates less for ticket sales
Starting point is 00:30:50 and more so they can start on some corporate sales on the other side. One problem with the schedule that I've seen so far. And I think it's gotten announced. I think Loudon is going to end up on the fall final weekend. How the fuck does that happen? What's the fall final? Stafford. But it's just, I mean, now you're asking, like, I feel like a lot of people that are at the fall final are going to the Loudon Cup weekend.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Now you're making them choose. Like, I know they don't probably have any idea that that's going on, but they should. They need to have an idea that that's happening, especially, I don't know, is it a tour, is it back to a tour race or not yet? So that's what. Yeah, I know. But still, like, that's your fan base. Stafford is not a NASCAR track. I know.
Starting point is 00:31:29 But they're going back this year, though. The tour is going back this year. But I'm saying, like, just, I mean, it's, and then I don't love that, like, they raced Saturday night against, this week is going to be against the Knoxville Nationals at Richmond. We're doing it again next year at Bristol. I noticed to the second Atlanta date is where Wilkesboro was this year. So that's probably going on.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Well, listen, Wilkesboro is the All-Star race. Yeah, that's what I'm. And guess what? Dayton is not on the fourth, Freddie, like we asked. Who? At least Iowa's not going to be. hot in fucking July. No.
Starting point is 00:32:01 We got lucky this week because they said it was like 100 and something degrees before we got there this week. So thank God it was, it wasn't that bad. I don't want to spend the first. What about your driver? You're going with, what's going on with your driver in the old Riley?
Starting point is 00:32:13 Bubba, you're fired? No, O'Reilly's, what's going on? Oh, Dino? Yeah, Dino's leaving. He's going to a factory house team, Hoss factory.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Yeah, I'm probably staying at Sam's, I would assume. I kind of went to Sam's before Dean got hired. so I would assume I'll probably stay at Sam's kind of Toyota family. I get along really well with Chris Bowen, who's the crew chief over there. That's kind of why I went there. Really like working with him.
Starting point is 00:32:38 So I'll probably stay with Bowen and we'll see. Good ridden. Dean who? Dean who? Good for Dean, though. I mean, this is a good opportunity for him. They got, I think they, I mean, they're the ones that are the closest in speed to the J.R.M. I feel like the Haas alliance there with the two, those two cars.
Starting point is 00:32:54 And I think they're better than the Gibbs cars right now. Honestly, speed-wise. but yeah I mean it'll be interesting listen I mean I heard it we heard it from somebody together I heard it a lot of times in the garage there might be some big shit happening with their cup program too I don't I'll let them announce it
Starting point is 00:33:10 but some some affiliation with with somebody that it's a really good opportunity for Cole and moving forward for that team I think so that'll be that'll be interesting to see when that comes out they're not getting rid of charters they're not they're definitely running next year and they're going to be running pretty well I think if all Well, they've already started.
Starting point is 00:33:28 They started this process about five, six races. And you've seen a little bit of improvement. I think it was indie. I noticed he was in, you know, decent all day long. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. All right. Make him a merch. This happened in Doorbumpur, Clear Edition.
Starting point is 00:33:42 I wanted to ask you guys, what is a moment from the show that you would like to see on a t-shirt? Oh, boy. Muppet, Tom, on a t-shirt. Come on. I think we got it. I'm tired of you, motherfuckers. That was years ago. Enough. If somebody's not putting the words, I'm tired of you, motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:33:57 on a t-shirt, then what are we doing? I mean, we've had some good ones. Reaction Theater has been a gold mine for some of that stuff. The toast has got to have something. I got toaster, we got toasters. Chase sexuals, I'm expecting some chase sexual shirts. Keep it clean. The rowdy stuff, we need to keep it going a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Routy Nation.
Starting point is 00:34:15 And listen, there's money. There's literally money involved, like, free money. I can't believe we're giving our fans cash for their ideas. That's a terrifying idea to me, but I can't wait to see what comes out of this. All right. You can fill out the registration form and upload your design. The deadline to submit that is August 19th at 1159 Eastern. The top five designs will go live on the DMM merch store for 14 days on August 26th.
Starting point is 00:34:41 And then the three bestsellers will win cash prizes. Your designs must be 100% original and free of copyrighted or offensive material. And you must submit your entry by 819 to be considered. And by entering you grant Dirty Mo Media ownership rights to your design, full terms, and conditions at bit.l.l. slash m m dBC. Come on, guys. Help us out.
Starting point is 00:35:02 I'm excited. I don't know if I'm more nervous or more excited to see what our fans come up with, but I can't wait. What the four producers around here are going to have to go through to see some of this. I want to see them all because, yeah, I want to. So you make sure they're picking the right ones. I want it to be like a reaction theater Sunday when he has to go through all this out-of-pocket shit.
Starting point is 00:35:21 If I'm going to say right now, if I see one fat Freddy's t-shirt and I'm going to be pissed off. Oh, you're going to see him. If I see one front, that Freddie T-shirt, it wins. Spot on. Spot on. Did you want to go first? I think he's a whiny bit. That's what I think.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Send it. Why me? First one, Tyler Allen made the guttiest call of the year, calling for two tires with 59 to go. Spot on, spot off, Tommy. Spot on, yeah. I mean, he put himself in that position. I think the 20 car taken four kind of made his decision a little bit easier, you know, to go for it. But, you know, it started, that started when, like I said earlier, when the nine car stayed out and held on position.
Starting point is 00:36:15 And then that first eight or nine guys, the next stop took two and put the guys that took four, they couldn't pass them. They can hardly pass them, right? And then what happened was that run went so long that it forced everyone to take four. And the guys that took two, it didn't work, right? Because it was so many laps on the tires at that point. But, yeah, it was a good call. You know, people, you know, Bono can attest to this. It's like when you take two on a caution pit stop,
Starting point is 00:36:48 it's a little bit different than a green flag because of air pressures, right? The heat and the tires and stuff. And I think what you've seen there in the beginning was it took a little bit more for the air pressure to get up to what it was on Tye's car or not long, you know, in the last run, when he did two compared to the 20 when he did four so he caught him right and then it averaged out and like we said earlier tie just ran that line man he ran that solid line that you weren't going
Starting point is 00:37:14 to get around him and every time he tried it didn't work but yeah it was to call it a race Allen's was to call it a race that flew everybody like everyone else was like oh shit look at this now what am i going to do and those guys that did to the next stop the nine or 10 guys were the ones that kind of put themselves in a better position. Yeah, and you saw, I feel like we talked about this in the text yesterday, but, you know, it's the guys on Sunday look at some of the stuff that happens on Saturday and go, all right, you know, it's hard to pass, you know, track position played out, kind of how we expected it. And Alan, they had just got the lucky dog.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Then we have a caution, you know, I don't even know, it was a couple lap, you know, a handful of laps later, or 20 laps later maybe. And what's he got to lose? You know, like... But I was laughing. I was laughing because the 12 and the 9 are really good friends. Yeah, that's the same thing. The 12 could have passed the 7 and lapped him,
Starting point is 00:38:12 and the 7 would have been lucky dog. Come a break. Ten laps later, I betcha Ryan was like, that son of a bitch, I see... If I... You know, now I'm fighting this guy for the lead, right? Yeah. The 7 car wouldn't have probably did what Alan did, right?
Starting point is 00:38:25 He's like, man, I give this guy a break. Now I'm giving up the lead when I was... I just lapped him. Yeah, I bet. he was like, damn it, I should have passed his seven car. How much easier, bono, is it on the box when you have a position like that? Where you know you got decent speed. You start at the back because of a practice crash.
Starting point is 00:38:41 You know your car's decent. You really got nothing to lose. Like, does that make your life a little bit easier to make that call and say, fuck it, we can go for it here and see what happens? Yeah, for sure, you know, like I said, I listened to it on the way home on the radio. And like Tommy mentioned, that the nine was about lapped. And then obviously they were on Suarez, which is, which is, my team. So I was like, oh, it looks like he's fighting on the radio. And like, yeah. And then I think I
Starting point is 00:39:06 stopped and got gas. I got in the car and they're like going back to green and the nine is the leader. I'm like, you know, so, but then I, you know, just through common sense, I figured it out what he did. And I'm like, man, that's pretty brilliant. And then I, and I heard, you know, he's getting past it, but still netted out. I think he ended up 10th or something at that time. So yeah, to make a call, you know, you're, you got the guys that Monday morning are always correct. Yeah, yeah, every time. We do that all here. But sometimes when you have a pit penalty and you're like, damn, you know, but you come down and you either take more gas or you've got to start in the back.
Starting point is 00:39:40 But then all of a sudden it plays in your favor. Yeah. And then on flip side, how much harder is it when you're leading? Because that happened to Hallgaier on Saturday where, you know, he's leading and where like some guys had just come with the fuel window just opened, some guy's pit. Then, like we split. and he stayed at like that was he should have came
Starting point is 00:40:01 Monday morning quarterback no he's right Tom is right no the problem no thing is he was good enough that if those other guys the back of the lap
Starting point is 00:40:12 of the lead lap cars even if they'd stayed out and they pitted for tires 20 laps they were not going to go it's I think the problem was I mean you're you're you're going to put
Starting point is 00:40:21 your last set on with like 85 to go you know like I think the problem is I think they thought, I knew they were good enough to do that, like get back to the lead from there. But I think their thought was if we put them on here and have the guys stay out, now we're a sitting duck if they catch a caution with 20 to go and we're fucking sitting here on 60-thob-all tires. You know, so it's just, but I mean, as the leader, it's like sometimes that's the hardest decision. It is.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Yeah. But it is. But you sometimes know like the right call. It's even like the under on the choose rule, right? I know I want to start on the outside behind the leader, but how can I give up the front row? Yeah. You know, so a lot of times you'll come out third where if the leader would have spun his tires, then you would have to lead.
Starting point is 00:41:06 You're like, damn it. So sometimes being that leader is the harder decision, but in your heart, you sometimes are going to go with your gut. And it doesn't always work out, right? But, yeah. Justin Allgaier told Brent Cruz, quote, you're way too good of a racer to make mistakes like that, in quote. Tommy, I'm going to start with you again on this one.
Starting point is 00:41:26 because I know that you had a late night conversation. You had a late night knock on the door. And I mean, and also you just, you spend a lot of time with all those kids. So take it away. Yeah, I mean, I'm pretty critical of all of them, right? And again, it's just he's got to just slow down a little bit, right? We've, we had a really good conversation with Raja, right?
Starting point is 00:41:46 And we walked in and was, you weren't here yet. I walked in. It's, hey, man, good run. He goes, you know what? I didn't screw up. I didn't make any mistakes. And I ended up. Yeah, he tried.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Yeah. Fuck, a couple times. Yeah, but I mean, everybody was out of control a little bit. I mean, come on, give the kid a little credit. He did a good job. He did a good job. But, yeah, just Brent seems to, again, get in these little bit situations and just... He's young, man.
Starting point is 00:42:16 I liken it to almost similar to, like, Bell and Larson, to where I feel like those guys trust their talent almost too much, where they are just, they're willing to go to the edge. And that's why you see Bell and Larson spin out and by themselves a lot because they're just on the fucking edge at all times where other guys just aren't willing to push to limit that far. They're going to run 95% because they know, all right, I can stay under the tire here. I'm in control. And those guys are just, fuck it.
Starting point is 00:42:43 I know that I can drive anything and I'll be fine. And I, ever since I've seen Brent race since he's fucking four years old, a Millbridge, he's just been wide open at all the time, crashing under the fucking cushion. And, you know, you saw that. But that's why he's where he's at. Yeah, exactly. Let's not, let's not.
Starting point is 00:43:00 I don't, you don't want to like neuter him. But like you said, he's just got to because, I mean, we were talking five races ago. We're like, this kid's easily going to be in the, in the chase. You know, he was 12th. And now you see, like, mistakes like this happen. You probably gave away 20 points on Saturday. And now you're fucking one point to the good going to Daytona. You know, so.
Starting point is 00:43:19 He's going to get through this year, no matter what, wherever he ends up. And he's going to have that winter off. what like all the kids that struggle the first year a little bit in a thought process and what gets done and then when he shows up in february everything's going to be a little bit slower for him i promise you everything's going to be just a little bit slower and you're going to see a different brunt crews next year but this year he's going to be he's going to go through all these things right he's going to do all these things cori day's still fighting it a little bit right he's still he's but you see him getting a little bit better right i mean he got taken out there i just i just hope
Starting point is 00:43:54 Corey Day knows what day it is today. He got, he went through the wall the other day. But, you know, again, I mean, you got a lot of talent sitting around, right? A lot of talent in these two divisions. And I'm excited, right? I'm excited watching them all and seeing them all do good, but it's aggravating, you know. And he's like, man, what, you know, he came in last night. He's like, man, what, are you going to talk bad about me?
Starting point is 00:44:18 Yeah, I'm going to talk bad about you. You deserve it. And listen, he was, I mean, he was rough all day, you know, but he's, He got set he got a bad pit stop I think or something I remember He ended up in the back
Starting point is 00:44:29 And he was just really aggressive Coming through Kind of ran up In the side of us at one point And I'm like You don't need to be running In the side of us For fucking 15
Starting point is 00:44:36 You know what I mean? Like you're gonna get back there Just take time Next year Everything's gonna be a little bit slow Oh no how is it I know A lot of these guys
Starting point is 00:44:43 Come through the truck series and stuff And Rajah is a good example Of it Like how hard is it You see these guys Have a lot of talent Have a lot of speed But they just need to
Starting point is 00:44:51 Be pulled back a little bit Yeah So I mean that's it's always said, you know, it's like, God, I'd rather have a guy that we can pull back instead of one of you're trying to gain speed. So, yeah, sometimes their truck or car or whatever they're in is way better than them at the time. So it is a challenge, but Brent Cruz definitely has a bright future. And even, you know, whether he makes a chase or not this year, he obviously gave a four race cushion to them guys. So it'd be tough to win the championship from where he's
Starting point is 00:45:22 going to get in, but it can be done, you know, so yeah, you got to sometimes just, and I had Raj, damn, I think it was like yesterday. He was at my house when the trucks were at my house, playing, you know, basketball with David outside and just this kid with a three ring binder notebook and everything I said, he wrote down, you know, so I remember having Raj at his first race. If you go back and watch it at St. Louis, we sped on pit road, we got spun out twice, and we still I like to say we finished 10th, but we got clipped at the line and finished 11th, right? But I'm like, man, he's got a lot of talent and a lot of speed. We just got to control that.
Starting point is 00:46:00 So, yeah, got to slow him down to be fast. How would you like to be JGR? Yeah, JGR heading Daytona. Three guys on the cut line. Separated by one point. And listen, O'R. Raj is only 15 back. And the JRM cars are much, much, much, much better than the Gibbs cars have been at these plate races. So it's a very good opportunity that he'll have that gap shut down by the start of
Starting point is 00:46:26 stage three. It's, I mean, how do you go, how do you go to a race where you know you need teammates and have to know your teammates? Well, you don't want to help you. Five of these guys and four of those guys, right? Yeah, but you're like, you're going to have five guys helping Raja and nobody helping you at your own team because you're racing your teammates. Yeah. Like, it's going to be, and listen, the. Let's not speak too soon, though, because we all know how, how J.R.M. likes to have shit on luck and then something goes awry and we're next thing, you know, no one's having fun. So let's not change it. No, I'm just, I'm just like it's something. And, you know, we talked about making mistakes. Like, I guarantee you there's a handful of
Starting point is 00:47:07 occasions where Raja wishes he did something different this year because, you know, Dover, Dover, what I'm saying, Dover, you know, like just so many opportunities where that 15 points is erased in a second. I think every one of those in that. Yeah, I'm sure. It made mistakes. But I mean, we've been critical about Rajan here a couple of times that shit show he had with Jesse Love for a while. Like that cost him numerous points, you know. So it's just, you know, like you're talking about Cruz like in anybody. Like, just got to maximize your day.
Starting point is 00:47:33 Whatever you got, don't try to take a 10th place car and run fifth with it. Just run 10th and move on to the next one. Iowa should not be repaved. No. I like the idea. I like Dale's idea. I just repave in the half that we didn't we didn't pave the last time. Because, I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Like, I want us to get back to the point. we're using that whole racetrack again like we used to because it was awesome but we repave it now it's going to be terrible for a couple years at least right i mean everyone says that but i think the the pavement has gotten so good now i don't you haven't seen that in the last couple tape drops have we bono no i think it's been whatever aggregate they use now um and heck i did watch some of that race and it was like holy shit the it's gray i mean it was only so yeah you might repave it so we can use all the lanes. I do remember running the trucks there
Starting point is 00:48:26 a handful of years ago, and we did use all the lanes. So, you know, sometimes you've got a same thing with the, you know, what was the track? Oh, don't pave it, Atlanta, don't pave it. Well, eventually you're going to have to. Yeah. So pave it, pave it, you know, suffer for a year maybe. And then that winters are hard up there and the summers are hot.
Starting point is 00:48:46 It'll wear out pretty quick. Yeah, because I think that's, I mean, we know if we pave it, the first time back is probably going to, be a struggle. You know what I mean? It's going to be a one. Like yesterday, at least we had two lanes, but you can't get above that second lane or two and a half off the bottom because then you're fucking in no man's land.
Starting point is 00:49:03 So I just, I think the idea is if we're going to pave it, it's to get back to where we can. Yeah, I mean, and they could fix a couple of the things, right? I mean, from the start, finish line into one, you have to be so careful getting into that corner. I mean, you've seen a nine car in practice wreck because of it, right?
Starting point is 00:49:18 He was, or the six car on qualifying. He was just way too high. I mean, you know, basically if your right sides weren't at the corner of that cement thing right there going into one, if you were too high, you were going to lose it. But it needs some work. It needs a little facelift. I don't think. And then two tires won to race, so maybe it is.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Yeah, what's it like? It's still not. It's like it doesn't wear out. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think it needs to be done. I just hope it doesn't kill it next year.
Starting point is 00:49:49 You know, hopefully, I hope we get to a point where it's like we can move around. You know, like, you know, sometimes you can, we wear out of bottom lanes for half the race and then we start chasing fresher asphalt. We've, we've, the, as our sport has grown with all the things that we've learned with the asphalt, I think it's not going to be a problem. It's my, in my opinion. You don't think they just paved the other half? No, I think they, I mean. How do the fuck do you pave half a racetrack anyway? How did that start?
Starting point is 00:50:16 Like, the, how did we just end up doing the bottom? They run out of money. Rusty Wallace. It's like, it's like. Rusty Wallace didn't want to pay for it. Grow some more corn in the bed. It's like Hickory just repaving the infield and nothing else too. Is Hickory?
Starting point is 00:50:28 Are they repaving at the end of the year? I don't like that either. Let that place, I mean, it needs a bad, but. That place needs a little loving. Maybe that would have to save Saturday. At least you don't have to ask bugs to move over to go to the bathroom anymore. They have nice bathrooms. All right.
Starting point is 00:50:46 NASCAR issues a new rule change where a natural caution with 10 or fewer laps to go. stage will serve as both the stage caution and the end of the stage. Obviously, I didn't get to pay too much attention this weekend. Did it come into play? If it did, how did it? Listen, I'm glad they did it. They fixed the wrong problem. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:51:05 This happens, I don't know, 10 times a year where we run into a stage break, but we still burn fucking 10 laps every stage caution. So that's the problem. The problem isn't the once in a while where we run, we have a yellow that comes out with five to go on the stage and we run one lap in the end of the stage and then it's 30 minutes. That happens once a month across all three series or maybe less. The fact that we still, and it drives me crazy when we saw it saw it on Saturday. Yellow comes out for the stage.
Starting point is 00:51:38 The fifth time by, we open pit road for the cycle. Then we do the cycles, two laps. Then we burn another lap, kids and everybody caught up. Then we burn a lap choosing. And then we're coming to one to go. So now it's a eight to 10 lap caution every stage. The fucking 96 spins out in stage three. We pick, Pace car picks us up.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Pit Road is open immediately, one lap. I'm like, so this is obviously not a fucking NASCAR problem. I can't, like I love seeing guys like Harvick and Jeff Burton go on podcasts and TV and say, NASCAR needs to really figure this out. You know, they got to speed these cautions up. Talk to your bosses. Like it's not a NASCAR didn't just decide to have 10 lap cautions. It's a TV thing.
Starting point is 00:52:20 They need to be more innovative of commercialism. Right? TV is rolling the roost here. So like NASCAR is able, as long as there's not a fucking 515 car pile up, you know, we can have everything ready and pit road open in one or two laps. We're doing this for television. So if anybody wants to bitch about NASCAR, this is the best way to shorten our races is take 20 minutes at each stage break and then you're good.
Starting point is 00:52:46 but like to call out NASCAR for it is not correct. It's not a NASCAR. No. But then at that point would you rather, I mean, there's, what are, what are they going to do about it? Sell less. Sell less inventory on the TV. Like, make them short. I just, I don't know what else you, what else do you sacrifice to be able to.
Starting point is 00:53:07 I don't know, do it the way we did it for a hundred years before with TV commercials. I don't know. People complain about that too. I mean, it's like, look, you, you guys seen last week when we had. the two fans on how we change their minds in one sentence, right? About the... Stages. Stages, right?
Starting point is 00:53:23 It's... They, like... But they're right. It's too long. Like, you know what I mean? Like, I'm not... The answer isn't getting rid of stages, because I don't mind the stage break. I like the fact that we have stage points because it rewards guys that are consistently fast.
Starting point is 00:53:40 You know, if you... Like I said, a hundred times on here. But in 2000, if you let every lap and blew up with two to go, you got fucking two. points. Now at least you go out and you get 15th place points because you you dominated the first two stages. You know, we need at least stage points. I don't know that we need stage breaks, but we need stage points at least. I think it helps reward guys that are consistently fast. But I mean, bono, I mean, especially the truck series, it's got to drive you crazy strategy-wise because I feel like as soon as we go green in the truck race, we tend to go on a stage. Yeah, they do not need all those
Starting point is 00:54:11 stage breaks. Yeah, I don't think the trucks do, right? And it's just another element. Now we short pit if like this week at Richmond we go 70 70 or our stages so now we're now you have to say okay 60 yeah so now I'm gonna in my pre-race will say okay we'll short it if it comes out on 50 you know so it's going to be the same thing and and I do agree the them guys they deserve their points so but it was a lot of strategy for other people when I run part-time and I don't don't want points, I don't care about stage points, I'd flip every stage there was. Yeah. Because it was, in the second stage, it's extremely short.
Starting point is 00:54:55 So, yeah, everything's a little bit different for each stage length, but I agree with you guys on the truck cautions. And we run hot at these places like Bristol, and it's 20 laps of caution. Yeah, we really had. Like, what is going on? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, the truck engine runs hot.
Starting point is 00:55:17 So, yeah, just speed it up. How do we do it? Well, you said it earlier, too. TV. You know, don't blame NASCAR, blame TV. TV, we understand rules the roost in this. You know, they say when we're going to have cautions. And I'm not saying, like, the argument about stage breaks.
Starting point is 00:55:34 I do think we need them, right? Because in them long cup races, I don't think the drivers need a rest. But sometimes they go green a long time. We don't get cautions like we used to. We don't get mysterious cautions that I think I see something shiny town. Anyways, like, we didn't need stage costume before. I said, we still had them. They just, we just didn't know.
Starting point is 00:55:51 We just didn't know when they were, they only came out when Dale was in the lucky dog spot. But Burton brought up a good point. I saw him somewhere on a show recently. It's Dale's show, I think, where he said, like, people at the track can also plan bathroom run or go get a beer. I know there's a caution coming out in 10 laps. I can go get a, go get a beer, whatever. I understand that. You can do the same thing at home.
Starting point is 00:56:15 So I don't mind the stage cautions, but the fact that they're fucking 10 laps long everywhere we go. And then what are we going to do? If this works out great and everybody's happy, obviously we don't have any road courses that we're at the end of this year. We do this. You can't have a 10 lab rule of road course, right?
Starting point is 00:56:30 I mean, truck race is fucking, and they even have 10 laps stages. Yeah. I didn't even think about that. Yeah. It's just another element. That's all.
Starting point is 00:56:42 I have a five all stages over. This might be a really, it might be a dumb question, might not. What if they did like stages, kind of how like short track series do competition? Like what if it's just at a certain consecutive number of laps that you know that that's when a state, like, but then I guess you wouldn't necessarily be guaranteed
Starting point is 00:57:00 that you would have a certain number of stages. Yeah, you wouldn't, yeah, because you would need, you would, it just needs to be more fishing. It's just so like even this week at Richmond, our last stage is 110 laps. we can go 1.15 on gas. So if it does come out 10 laps early, we're going to be right on the window of a fuel savings race
Starting point is 00:57:20 or pitting under green. So, you know, it's just every element is different. Every stage. And like you said earlier, it's, I don't want to say trucks are like an afterthought. But it's like, oh, we can, the Cup Series, this is, you know, this is what we do. And it's like, I'll do with the rest of them. And it's like, well, hang out a second.
Starting point is 00:57:35 Yeah. Some of the, I mean, I feel like the Pocono stage, I feel like the truck stage is like 10 laps. Green caution. Oh, stage is over. I mean, I think I like that they did it. I just, it was celebrated so much. I'm like, this is, I mean, it's a good thing. They needed to do it, but it's something that happens rarely.
Starting point is 00:57:59 You know, the fix is something else. Maybe it's a start just to say, hey, we know we got to do something. Here's what we can do in the immediate think about the long term. Maybe let's just have a positive perspective today on this Monday morning. And I did email the series director this morning because I still have some questions on it because there's nothing in the rulebook yet. Like, okay, is that a hard lap 10 to go? If a working lap, I'm just using Richmond for instance. If the trucks are working lap 60 and the caution comes out, it's a no-brainer.
Starting point is 00:58:27 But what if they're working 59 and the caution comes out? And you take 10 to go with the line? And we take, well, I mean, it take 10 to go and it's a two-minute cleanup. You know, we're going to do the same thing. Or are we going to say, let's just run two more laps on a caution? You know, so it's just a work in progress. I just, I, like, it's, for me, I hate, like, where they, they're putting themselves in a position to have to make some shitty decisions, I feel like, because, you know, this is,
Starting point is 00:58:58 like, the conspiracy theory in you, but, like, everything's based on points now. It's not whoever wins the last race is the champion. So what's to stop, you know, a teammate from manipulating a caution? if one of his guys is leading, 10 to go on a stage, that maybe has to still pit, you know, or I can't wait for the first time. We have the guy brushed the wall with eight to go on a stage and they throw the yellow that didn't need to be thrown.
Starting point is 00:59:20 I can't remember which one, but I think you might have to blame your boss on this. On the stage thing? Yeah. Which boss? Yeah, talk to your boss. Which one? I got 16.
Starting point is 00:59:33 No, you're real boss. Michael? I can't remember. Was he in favor? I mean, I think it's the right thing to do, but it's just, I can't remember which one. You could potentially open Pandora's box here a little bit. And it'll be, it's got to be, you got to come out and say, like, if you fucking do anything to manipulate this, we're going to, we're going to level the whole team. It's, look, man, it's an exciting time, man.
Starting point is 01:00:01 I mean, you've got a lot of things going on in our sport, a lot of things for the future that people working on. The points are close. let's uh let's have a good time man come on freddie we're being positive on this side of the table today Freddie made a shit call yesterday so he's in a bed he did make a shit call I didn't make a shit call I wish I did make a call he just mad at everybody he's blaming everybody
Starting point is 01:00:24 he wants everybody to have to make a shit call so he's not alone I get it mr. angry I get over it all right I can't wait to hear the back in my day on this one in a post on Facebook Carson Hosevar says quote we are on a ventilator when talking about the current state of NASCAR compared to 25 years ago. He wasn't happy. I was born 25 years ago.
Starting point is 01:00:44 I'm not sure he even was alive. So y'all are going to have to tell us what's going. He wasn't happy just pissing off all the drivers. He wanted to go for the sanctioning body, too, I guess. You think he got a, Bono, did you get a phone call about this? Well, one thing we can fix it. In the Dover truck race, he accidentally lost the radio button. So that was a good way to fix.
Starting point is 01:01:04 You know, it's like, that's, I don't, like I said, I don't social media because that gets you in trouble. I did, you know, so. It's a coincidence. You two both don't have social media. It's probably a good thing. Yeah, I mean, Carson is definitely a talent that any team would scoop up if you can deal with the immaturity or just the free flowing talk that he talks.
Starting point is 01:01:30 But yeah, what a talent. But how do we control the rest of him? You know, how do we help him? And I think Jeff and the guys that Spire are doing everything they can to, you know, find his home, you know, because he doesn't, I don't think he has a home yet, you know. Yeah. He might have a house, but he doesn't have like a home to where, okay, I get it. Settlement, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:50 I was kind of interested to see it be, like, his post just because, like, he kind of has been the face of everything lately and just has been on a role and having such a good time and benefiting so much from NASCAR in its current state. So I was just not that I oppose what he said. I just thought it was interesting coming from his current position in the industry. I think he does a very good job of telling the fans exactly what they want to hear. I think you're 100% right. Do you know what I mean? Like he's willing to just say whatever he thinks is going to get him the most attention from the people in the grandstands. Which is by, that's how you build your brand.
Starting point is 01:02:33 That's what's supposed to do. If you think about basically. baseball and football and hockey versus racing, right? The elements of the other three sports are still there, right? We have made so many changes since he watched that race 25 years ago, right? I mean, and 25 years ago, we were at our peak, right? We had, we had it going on, man. I mean, I hate to say it.
Starting point is 01:02:58 It was the world was way different for our sport back then of the popularity of the... There was more money coming in from sponsors. than people even knew what to do with or where to go. I mean, it was a different world. Different world. And we have changed our vehicle, right? The football has not. You've changed the game in a way.
Starting point is 01:03:19 Yeah, I mean, football has not. They change rules every year. They have different rules. But it hasn't changed the way they. The game of football has not changed. We have changed the way we race, right? We have changed our vehicle. right we have changed our you know the race tracks the the time the everything right so yeah it is
Starting point is 01:03:46 different but um football and baseball their ages from two to 70 right we we have a certain group of people right that we've always attracted right now we're trying to reach that fan base of the you know the five-year-olds to the 75-year-olds which they're probably the biggest fancy older people. So we're trying to do a better job to relate to the world now now. Is that it makes sense? I think, yeah, I was thinking about this morning and it's like we're not, we're not on a ventilator. We're not dying. No.
Starting point is 01:04:20 I think it's more, like I feel more like we're starting to wake up from a coma. That's exactly. Me too. Like, you know, we were, we were so, for the last 10 years, I felt like we were just monotonous and not willing to admit that we've got issues and not. and now I see between O.D. and Ben, they're going on podcast, and they're talking about, yeah, this fucking car isn't perfect. And we're trying to make it better. We're going to go test Daytona to make it because we hear you that the plate racing sucks. And we're going to change the playoffs because we hear you that we want a full season or a more point space.
Starting point is 01:04:53 We don't want a one-race championship. I feel like we're finally, you know, for the first time in a long time, stepping in the right direction again and being more relatable, being more like trying to get to the fan base. again whether it's the hell yeah motto that I adapted this year or whatever but you know we're not dying you know what I mean I feel like for the first time in a long time we're trending in the right direction yeah
Starting point is 01:05:15 DBC fans it's time to all right it is time for reaction theater where fans can call in and voice their opinions from this weekend's race um do we get a good yeah we got some good loot today I'm excited all right cool once it made me laugh
Starting point is 01:05:47 yeah this is Tyler He said he's giving Freddie a call back. To clarify, you cannot get the fastest lap while running pit road. That is one of the disclaimers in the fine print. But yeah, good time. Y'all get back up there now. Good job. We gave it a shot.
Starting point is 01:06:07 And he's, we were like clear by three. Oh, yeah. They showed it on TV like 12 times. As Kyle Larson's hand. I just want to say. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Fuck. He's struggling. Oh, he's going to neutral. Yeah, neutral. That's where you're fucking hers, you people,
Starting point is 01:06:32 fucking shit. Fuck you and fuck your fucking dad too. Not a Nemechek guy. He said your career's in neutral. That's funny. Man, John Hunter,
Starting point is 01:06:43 I mean, he's got speed, but he can't help himself sometimes. He's quitless. Is he ever going to stop and be as good as he really is.
Starting point is 01:06:52 I don't know. Because he's talented. Yes. Has he ever going to just stop? And just... Bubba, we like... I don't want to fault anybody for racing hard because Bubba is one of the worst guys to pass on the racetrack.
Starting point is 01:07:06 But like, we're hauling ass yesterday. And we keep going on the back. And we catch John Hunter. We get underneath him and he's just fucking on our door. And Bubba just finally just, I'm done with you. Like just follow us. We'll probably let you pass, you'll probably help you pass three guys if you just tuck in line. But instead he just races the hell out of us.
Starting point is 01:07:25 And then Bubba finally just ships him up to hill and we never saw him. So much talent. I mean, he really is a good race car driver and just, is he ever going to get it? Is it going to be too late one day? Hey, Freddie, while you were away from the show for those couple weeks, did you become a model? Because I swear I saw your face on the side of that butt-faced car. Hey, funny shit right there. What a sponsorship.
Starting point is 01:07:53 I mean, I had a giant ass walking around the garage. I like it. What is that? Does anybody know what it is? It's butt paste. What? What? Pace.
Starting point is 01:08:02 No, but face is my... Not buff paste. But face was the sponsor, but I don't know what the fuck that could be. A toy? What kind of toy? Wait a minute. What kind of toy? Nice you to show up.
Starting point is 01:08:16 Can we talk about it on here? Chester cheeks. Chester cheeks. Is this like a... Yeah, but it's... Is this an adult toy or a kid's toy? Kids toy at Target. They didn't do a very good job.
Starting point is 01:08:30 If you don't know about it. No. I mean, he was on TV a lot he spun out like three times. Poor C. Kyle Seek. Oh, poor. I love that kid. Yeah. They're doing a good job.
Starting point is 01:08:41 Yeah. Yeah. Fuck I get him. Fuck Toyota. A lot of effing goes. I don't be a Chevy fan. A lot of angry fans. I don't know why.
Starting point is 01:09:04 Just get back from Newton, Iowa today. Ran out of fucking toilet paper. You know how embarrassing it is to ask someone, some random stranger at a fucking NASCAR race, or toilet paper? It fucking sucks. Anyways. fuck Kyle Larson
Starting point is 01:09:22 Do you think he had any beer today or yesterday? They're not happy with Kyle I mean I don't think that was Kyle's problem You know Kyle kind of got ran over Twice Shoot boy ladies
Starting point is 01:09:36 Christopher Bell is the kind of man you want to marry I don't think I've ever seen a guy in the world That loves finishing second as much as that man Good Lord I saw a tweet Like NASCAR memes or something in tweet last night like Bell has the healthiest marriage in the garage because he's constantly finishing second or some shit like that. It's fucking dying last night.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Oh, yikes. Man. All right. To leave an audio message 24-7, you can call our number at 704, 802-9572. And we'll play the best ones each week on the show. All right, shit show Hall of Fame. Big thanks to Flo also for providing us with clips to react to.
Starting point is 01:10:16 If you want to see the clips in real time and be able to submit. for a shit show, you can use our link, which is flowsports.com slash door bumper clear, and you can get 15% off. I have a feeling that my car store race is on here somewhere, and we had a helmet throw.
Starting point is 01:10:35 Steering wheel throw. Stafford. At Stafford. Yeah. Limited lame model race. I don't understand. He gets a good chuck. Wow.
Starting point is 01:10:44 Dude, that thing ricocheted a good, like. That's expensive steering wheel. Yeah, that's the thing. I spy MPI. I don't understand. I don't understand throwing the helmets, throwing the steering wheel, because you're just hurting yourself, right?
Starting point is 01:10:57 I also don't love... That guy's in a car. He's not going to... I don't really love the running around on a hot race track either. I hate that. I hate that. He's in trouble.
Starting point is 01:11:08 Yeah. You know, Stafford throw him out for a while. Yeah. This was... Do you see this restart? North South 100 coming off before. I don't know what this guy breaks. He missed the shift to.
Starting point is 01:11:17 Wait, are you sure this wasn't the car store? Restarts in the pro race? Oh, man. Holy shit. Did you see the end of that race, though? What a great race, man. Yeah, I was going to talk about a weekend winners. Did you, Davenport's Victor Lane interview is hysterical.
Starting point is 01:11:31 Yeah, we had the big one on the front. Where was? Yeah, that was a, so there's an 85 car pile up right there. I mean, look at that place packed. Yeah, North South 100. Yeah, that's Shepard flying through the air. He's parked on top of somebody now. We had that happen too, Jake Bowman and Park Greenwood.
Starting point is 01:11:46 That might have been, what's his name, Monaghan in the fourth spot? I think it was. Dude What else we got? Flipping. The same track, there's a heat race. This got big.
Starting point is 01:11:59 Just two guys battle and they fucking Oh my Lord. That's not good. They just like tandem clips. There's like a teepee there for a second. They like door like they both went up in the air at the same point. I'm going to see that one more time.
Starting point is 01:12:13 Listen, this is all on flow. I don't know. We're going to be able to add these clips, Dalton. It's our show. Yes, we will add these flow clips. So these will be in the show.
Starting point is 01:12:19 Good. You guys can see them. So, yeah, that was a big one. Oh, man. Yeah, and then, yeah, the only other thing on this list is it just says cars tour at Hickrink. Every year. I don't know. You might be able to find it, but the Dylan McCowan crash also, he went up through the billboards and into the woods.
Starting point is 01:12:37 I think it was Friday night or Thursday night. That was a, that was, like, anytime you end up out of the ballpark and a late model is pretty, you see sprint cars do it often, but yeah. The late models is interesting. It's not easy to do. I have to tell on myself here. I had a shit show yesterday. Two shit shows now?
Starting point is 01:12:56 Yeah, but this is probably what, this is, I had bad karma. So we get to the track and we park usually in the front lot. And it was jam packed yesterday for some reason. I don't know if they just let more fans in there or whatnot. A lot guys had their tent set up, taking up three or four spots. And it was a bit of a shit show. So I'm like, I'm backing out. And as I'm backing out, there's a spot with a cone in it.
Starting point is 01:13:17 and the guy sees, I had to tell Nick to get out, Nick Payne to get out, and tell the guy behind me to back up so we can get all, we can get out, because we can get out and so as Nick gets out,
Starting point is 01:13:30 the guy, one of the attendants sees that Nick's all in, like, team gear. He's like, oh, are you with a team? And Nick's like, yeah. He's like, oh, well, hang on, move this, he picks the cone up. He's like, you guys park here. Team guys can park in these spots.
Starting point is 01:13:42 So Nick's like, oh, great. So I'd back in. It's like, it was the perfect spot to get out, everything. great. We're sitting there like an hour in the car waiting for the garage open. Another attendant. Now by the time this guy comes around, there's
Starting point is 01:13:55 no parking spot. The lot's closed. It's locked up. So this guy comes in and he's like, you move my cone? I said, no. I didn't move your cone. I said, that guy over there moved your cone. So he's like, you move my cone. I said, I swear to God, I didn't move your cone. He's like, this spot
Starting point is 01:14:11 is for special needs. I said, all right, well, I didn't, I said, I said, I don't, the guy told me to park here. I didn't know like, I don't know. He's like, well, you got to move. I was like, well, where do you want me to go now? There's no, he's like, no, I got, I got these people coming. You got to move. And I'm like, man, I said, I don't know. I said, there's nowhere else for these people apart. Like literally, yeah. You guys don't have handicapped spots for these people. And he's like, no. So then he leaves. He's MF and me. He leaves. I'm like, just let me know. So as I'm sitting there,
Starting point is 01:14:42 the people that spot it is pull in. And I realize it is, um, Gavin Grubbs and his mom, Mindy, who come to every fucking race, I feel like, hang out with Lugano. You've seen him in the garage all the time. And I look over and I'm like, of course, of course. So they're sitting there. I'm kind of waving at them. The guy's like, I said, listen, I said, if you can't find a spot, I'm obviously going to move. But like, I get out of the car and I'm like, there's 40 fucking parking spots here that you have roped off.
Starting point is 01:15:11 Like, can you not put them in one of these spots? And the guy's like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, we had that for pedestrian traffic, but we'll just move. moved the thing over one spot. I'm like, so we went through all this junk. They got a better spot, one row over.
Starting point is 01:15:24 But I'm like, of course it's them. Like, Gavin got out and he's like, I'm never listening to the DVC. And his mom's way. I said, what are you guys trying to take my spot for?
Starting point is 01:15:33 I don't appreciate that. That means Gavin, you owe Freddie one. But no. I couldn't believe it. I'm like, of course, I'm going to know the people as well. So, but yeah,
Starting point is 01:15:41 that was my shit show. And probably started my bad karma of the day stealing somebody's, that's what you get, stealing somebody's parking spot. That's what you get. All right. Well, if you find a shit show out in the wild, tag us and send it our way on social media.
Starting point is 01:15:55 And like we said, when we kicked off the segment, don't forget to check out Flow Racing. All right, time to move to ask DBC. Bono, you've been quiet over there, but these are for you. Where did the nickname Bono originally come from? Well, believe it or not, I used to be this tall, but like really skinny and bony. So I do have a sixth grade basketball jacket, you know, with the old embroidery. It said bono. So it came from being like bony, bonehead.
Starting point is 01:16:32 He somehow went to bono. So my friend Q, Tommy knows Q. He originally gave me that name. And like I said, I really don't know how, but it's been a long time. It's just stuck, you know, and like most people don't even know there's a Kevin. Yeah. I was going to say, like growing up, I think I'd. I didn't even know that your real name was Kevin until, honestly, probably not that long ago.
Starting point is 01:16:57 When we decided you were coming on the show, I'm like, when I tweeted Kevin Manion was coming on last night. Who the fuck's Kevin Mania? I'm just kidding. What was Tommy Baldwin like as a roommate? Oh, man, we had some fun. Oh, Jesus. Are there any stories that you can tell on air? Any good ones that stand out?
Starting point is 01:17:16 So, this is a lot of them, really. but some roommate stories. Someone I was in charge you to finances. Yeah, I took a ride by the neighborhood the other day. I was just cutting down that road, you know, to get to exit 25. But, yeah, that was a fun, fun house. A lot of people in and out. We had three bedroom, three bedroom, two bath.
Starting point is 01:17:38 And then we had three A and three B and three C to couch. You know, wherever we could fit people. People kept moving down, Gary and Eddie and, you know, Park. Robbie and, you know, they just kept Ray-rated, just kept moving down. You know, so we housed them. But, yeah, I was in charge of finance and I don't know how well you know Steve Park, but he is relatively what we call fucking cheap.
Starting point is 01:18:07 Some may say thrifty. And he learned it from his buddy Randy. Connecticut Randy, some of you may know him. I don't know who you that. But, yeah, he used to pay me down. down to like the penny. Penny. And then always late or round it down.
Starting point is 01:18:22 Never rounded it up. But yeah, everything was always paid on time. But no, we had fun in that house. We had fun. You know, we mentioned my orange shorts the other day. And that was a race at Beach Ridge. And I think I put them on because I had to change input shaft. Thrust barren.
Starting point is 01:18:40 And we had to put two by fours down and put it on jack stands. And I was like, I could do them in world record time. You know, you did a 5'8s bolt. And it was they were brass. But we won that. race and it was me Tommy and his significant other at the time and I think we're in my red pickup and we drove to Kenny Bunkport and got lobsters right on the company credit card we we did it up and we're driving home from there we'd come up to a red light Tommy rolled a window down do you know
Starting point is 01:19:06 who won beachfish today? I feel like no we did I can literally see that so Bono I don't a lot of people Bono has a stomach Like he can, like, so Bono's used to eat ice cream in the morning for breakfast, right? So our refrigerator sometimes, I hate to say, used to go weeks without getting cleaned out. And then there'd be some nights that we would come home, a little late. A little late, yeah. From the bar, and there'd be food there.
Starting point is 01:19:40 Bono would take everything out, scoop the mold out, tuna fish, whatever, the pasta, Red sauce, mix tuna in the reds, and just scrape all this. Don't you lie. I didn't scrape mold out. Yes, you did. And would eat it. Would eat it.
Starting point is 01:19:59 I mean, it's not that bad. Don't let your stomach do all that work. My grandma still does that. If we get a block of cheese out of the fridge, it's got mold on, and she just cuts it off. I mean, he would mix anything into anything. Now you do that with just liquor. No. Is there a DEI story that you think about the most these days?
Starting point is 01:20:17 Yeah, you know, I, I, That place is obviously near and dear to this building and to you and a lot of us here. But working there, I still wear my three for Dale band. You know, back in the day before the building was there in the little brick building and working out of the deerhead shop with Wesley and Dale Jr., you know, and being around Dale, you know, and the stories of pitching quarters, drinking beer and Dale going to KFC or getting chicken wings. I mean, that really happened.
Starting point is 01:20:55 You know, some of them just, you know, just larger than life character that he was. And just the memories that I have of that will live forever. But yeah, just a good place to work with a lot of people. And, you know, obviously we all miss it a lot. But yeah, it was, it was like Tommy said, those times that I've, looking at that three door next to us and I remember Tommy and I and we were at all these races but it was I think it was Rockingham or Darlington and we were with Craven it was our first year second year down here and and the three was next to us I think we were
Starting point is 01:21:35 fourth and points and they were third and Tommy's on the left side jacking it up while the jack handle hits Earnhardt's door and he turns to me and I was like changing left for your tire this is just in the garage and practice he says many year ago we race and modifies now I'm fucking record in our store, you know, so it's like just, you know, that, that heyday that we were in, moving down at the right time and getting the right breaks. And, yeah, so just endless stories. Most of them, you know, you want to tell and you could write a book about it, but I probably signed something along the way that I can't. Not that I'm going to. I can barely read. Oh, we'll write a book someday. Yeah, but I mean, it'd be, it'd be a bestseller for sure.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Like, and everyone in racing has their stories coming down. And from the modified days and, you know, our car owners were great. And their motto was winner-or-lose, we still booze. And however many laps the race was, that's how many beers they'd buy. The Thompson 300 was, you know, we had to finish and we left, too, you know. Had to. Like, it's the rule. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:38 Yeah. Talk about modified racing for a minute. You know, obviously you had your career and then you kind of went back and went modified race with Newman and Gary. Bono wanted me to ask you about some tech stuff with that. I'll leave that out. I'm not a slugger wanted me to ask you about that, but we'll leave that out. But how much, I mean, how much fun was that, like, you know, going to loud and stuff like that with Gary and Renno and Newman?
Starting point is 01:22:59 Because you guys won a lot of races then, too. Yeah, no, that was fun. I, that first year building that car, we were at DEI. And then just getting, you know, we had Kyle Bushing at New Smyrna, we had J.J. Yal one time we had Jeff Fuller, you know, it was just, I wouldn't say giving back, but it was just fun for us to do, you know, Tommy let us use his dad's number. What was that conversation? Did you, like, did you call and say that you want to do? I think we just asked, you know, like, hey, man. You said, no. I want money.
Starting point is 01:23:29 He did ask for it back, though, when his, when Jack and Luke got old enough, but, and I had to pay to shit. I mean, he made me charge me. He charged me. I know, he just. Charge plenty and out 20. No, but, you know, just like I said, with Gary and, and, um, Newman was, you know, I asked Martin one time, you know, and he says, no, but I know Newman will drive it. So we called Newman and shit, he was there. And he came and sat in it.
Starting point is 01:23:52 And, you know, the rest of his history won the first race at New Smyrna with him on his, I think it was his dad's birthday or something. And then, you know, the first words out of his mouth, when the next time I can drive, you know. So, you know, we got in a little bit of trouble at Loudoun with that. Slurs that I take my Bernard shirt off and throw it under the grass. Yeah. Have you gotten that engine back yet? We did get the engine back, less than a egg. How many years?
Starting point is 01:24:16 How many years? It was, I don't know. Darby gave it back finally. But, I mean, that was, that really, the most thing that that cost me was shipping that fucking granite trophy back. You know, I had a, it was either Colby or, or Colby, another one. And I had to ship it to Connecticut. Man, that was heavy.
Starting point is 01:24:36 But, yeah, that was, that was a painful time because, you know, there's one media guy up there won't mention his name, but writes this shit about me. And I'll go to my grave. I had no idea. And the series director at the time was Chad Little, I think. And he called me and say, hey, man, we're going to pump engines up there. So yeah, no problem. We're going to sniff engines.
Starting point is 01:24:56 You know, we're going to sniff engines. You know, we did win races after that. You know, we were going to go. we ended up racing, but I flew up there. I had to fly home to deal with this shit, but... You can tell you're not happy. We race Wednesday at C. Conk, and then we raced Friday at Stafford, and then we drove to Long Island, run Long Riverhead on Saturday night.
Starting point is 01:25:30 So it was this whole week, and I was destroyed. I had, believe it or not, I was walking around the grandstand during the race and a modified race at Riverhead, or before to race. I was watching something else. and I had these two Long Islanders up in the sand. Get out of here, you fucking cheater. And I'm like, God, me.
Starting point is 01:25:49 I couldn't believe that. Yeah, I mean, I don't believe it. I mean, that's why I think it would hurt so much because it's not like you're just some guy coming in and like, this is what you did. And that's why everybody was so mad, I think. Yeah. I remember getting off that plane in Providence. And my phone was like 58 messages.
Starting point is 01:26:06 I was like, oh, boy. So, oh, this is NASCAR. We're trying to get a hold of you. Yeah, you're no kidding. And they announced I was suspended for life or at least, a year, you know. But, yeah, luckily I was able to keep my job and they didn't suspend me from all on NASCAR, just modified racing. But that, like I said, this is the first time I've ever really talked about it, but it really, I do truthfully in my heart to all the, all the owners and drivers
Starting point is 01:26:32 out there and teams and team members and crew chiefs. I had no idea. I mean, we didn't need that. Yeah. You know? Yeah. Well, they have the first 10 races they had it. No, that was a brand new engine and they use the wrong gaskets and blah blah blah anyhow DBC picks Freddie you go first Tommy you finally won
Starting point is 01:26:51 For the first time in a while I did yeah you've been on a dry spell since Kansas I finished 14th and I won I go first For Witchman Oh you got a good one there I do
Starting point is 01:27:06 Mm-hmm Oh no you don't Where's he at No What do we got left? We just got Richmond. No. No.
Starting point is 01:27:16 Richmond, New Hampshire, D.ona. Richmond. River. Richmond. I will take Zane Smith. You freaking, damn it. I was going to pick Zane. All right.
Starting point is 01:27:33 Bono, you're next. Oh. I'll go with John Hunter. Jesus. You guys are missing. We're going to use. John Hunter is going to. Is it somebody that you have?
Starting point is 01:27:45 No. Can you tell me so I can, do I have them? I just saw him. Can I change my pick? Yeah, absolutely. I'll allow it. No, I can't happen three times in a row. He's in a Toyota.
Starting point is 01:27:57 Wait, what am I? It's right there. And mine? Looking to you right in the face. Where? Yes. Tell me. Yes.
Starting point is 01:28:07 No. Yeah. I'm not telling you. Is Josh Barry? No. Nope. Okay, I'll take awesome Dylan. There you go.
Starting point is 01:28:14 I am Hey and shout out to AJ Amadinger yesterday shout out to AJ was Josh Barry All the
Starting point is 01:28:23 Shout out Zilly He finally had a decent A decent day He did Decent weekend Did he run into anything All the front row cars They didn't get finishes
Starting point is 01:28:32 They deserved All the front road cars were fast They were In or around the top ten all day Yep Yeah I'm going with AJ Okay
Starting point is 01:28:40 So weekend winners We are We're gonna change it up just a little bit because for one I can't talk that much and two you guys are doing too good of a job of sending us winners so everybody's going to get recognition we're going to have
Starting point is 01:28:54 Dalton and Evan did a really good job working on this over the off week of I know we're going to have at least a graphic that shows all the winners from the weekend that you guys send in I don't know are we having that scroll while we're doing this or okay so there's going to be a scroll somewhere around here I think on your page
Starting point is 01:29:10 that's going to scroll scroll as the winners the list, Tommy, it's not, you can't see it. Oh, right. But listen, we're going to touch on as many as we can, but then I started getting, we started getting 20 different winners from every track. So we're going to give them all recognition. It's just, it's, it draws on too long for us to sit here and read them all.
Starting point is 01:29:31 But we will read a shitload of them, as we always do. Carson, go ahead and start us off with the flow ones. Obviously, all this, this, this big group here is all stuff you could watch on flow this weekend. or throughout those weeks. Yep. All right. Starting off cars store, Matt Gould wins our late model stock race.
Starting point is 01:29:48 T.J. DeKere in the pros, which I've got to say, dominating weekend for T.J. I mean, he had the fastest car there. He was only running against three cars back to the first one. Yeah. Yeah, geez.
Starting point is 01:30:01 Those were the only three cars that didn't get torn up by the 31. Matt Hirschman wins the wheel and modified tour and race, wait. ROC, race champions. And race champions. watched it You watched the end
Starting point is 01:30:12 at ROC in Holland So with five to go Me Hirschman Me Tony Lambert A bunch of us are sitting there watching it on iPad And I said if I had to go I said if he just
Starting point is 01:30:20 Just drive around the fucking outside And Hershey goes You can't go to the outside He's gonna run you up And I was like He's too fast Like he can't stop him Like he just kept
Starting point is 01:30:27 Like plugging the bottom And then finally he just shipped it And drove right around The money outside of yeah Great finish Jake Crum wins The Smart Mod Race At Pulaski
Starting point is 01:30:35 What did it just I mean I know Link's been helping him They got it going on Link is a bad man. And his wife won. Yeah, I was going to say, Anabeth won the...
Starting point is 01:30:45 Carolina Cray. Yeah, Crate mod race. Josh Rice wins the wild North South Seattle 100 at Florence. So Josh Rice is a local guy, right? He's from nearby. And I guess it went back and forth. I didn't see the end of the race,
Starting point is 01:30:58 but I heard it was unbelievable. Davenport was leading, right? Yeah, back and forth. So Davenport said, like local guy. So Davenport said, I'm coming to take the white flag. He goes, I come off a four, and the whole fucking grandstands
Starting point is 01:31:10 He goes, I run through one or two. The whole backstretched grandstand stood up and I said, I knew I was fucked. He said because I knew who was back. I knew somebody was coming and I knew who it was because the guy was like a local favorite. The infield going nuts. They just said, he just went eight. That's good though. It's awesome.
Starting point is 01:31:25 That's great race. Love that. Tristan McKee and Mason Massey were ARCA winners at Iowa and Portland. Taylor Hoar went first career late model win at Thunder Road and Bobby Thierin wins race number two. Jessica Freezin holds off Stewie Freezing for the Big Block win at Fonda. Hell yes.
Starting point is 01:31:41 That's got to be a son of a bitch to go home to now. That's badass. Fun car ride home for her. I don't care what he said. Bullshit. Dylan Thornton gets his first career
Starting point is 01:31:51 Mars tour win at Macon. Ryan Unzicker is a Mars winner at Sycamore. C.J. Leary wins a Silver Crown race at Iowa in quotations year. It says worst race day schedule ever.
Starting point is 01:32:01 Did you see their schedule was practice and qualified at 8.30 a.m. race at 8 p.m. It sounds like the car store. Yeah, yeah. Sounds like our schedules. Did you see pictures of the
Starting point is 01:32:15 tire blistering that they had from that at Iowa? Did any of you guys see that? Where? On the Silver Crown stuff. Did you, oh, okay. Bowman Gray, John Boy Brown won the modified race. Has he been racing? I don't like, so that was the first race back?
Starting point is 01:32:28 Yeah, yeah. They had a hunter lapper. He won the modified race. Zach or Nate Gregg split the sportsman wins. Brad Lewis, street stock winner, Chuck Wall and Josh Hedge won stadium stocks. Riverhead, they had some rain issues on Friday night. Saturday, Will Farrell won his first career figure eight race.
Starting point is 01:32:43 Riley O'Keefe won for the 700th time this year. Brandon Hubbard won the street stock race. Stafford also fought rain. I think he only got a half to show in. Michael Bennett won a lay model race. Aaron Plymouth won a limited race. Ryan Waterman, I think that's his ninth one of the year. He got burned last week.
Starting point is 01:32:58 Did you see that clip of, listen, maybe it was a little egregious. He puts the bumper to the guy coming to the checker-flagger, coming to the white to win the race, knocks him up out of the way, doesn't spin him, just knocks him up out of the way, goes on to win the race, and they penalize him, took the win away. And I said, there's no way they do that
Starting point is 01:33:15 if he doesn't already have seven or eight wins. Like if he wasn't dominating, it's not a penalty, and I don't think it should have been a penalty then. But yeah, so as I'm moving on now to some random stuff, World Outlaws, Logan Shuehart won the Iron Man 55 at I-55. Chris Windham wins his first world outlaw race. This is an awesome story for me, a good buddy of mine.
Starting point is 01:33:35 and just everything played up hurt for me. He did a great job through lap traffic. Earned the win there. Larson wins the Capitani last night at Knoxville. Rusty Poland won the smack race up at Manadnach, which is like a 350 supermodified race. He beat Bobby Timmons. Thank God we don't want to hear from Bobby Timmons.
Starting point is 01:33:53 I think he won Oswego. No, Jeffrey Battle won. Oh, Battle. Yeah, Jeffrey Battle won Oswego. Lanna Salimito won again. Seekon Triple Crown Series at Wall. Ryan Cluthow and Neil Rutt won the sports and races. Blake Barney won the TQ race.
Starting point is 01:34:07 John Carpenter won the factory stocks, and Mike Alcaro won the five-car legend car race that they had. Ben Tunney won the figure eight race at the Speedrome. Mark was second. I fucked up earlier in the year and said that Mark won when Ben did. So I apologize, Ben. Ben won this week. Deke McCaskill and Ryan Vucannon.
Starting point is 01:34:25 When the Laymall race is at. Daniel Vincannon. Oh, Daniel Vucannon won the Laymala races at Wake County. Jesse Glentz wins Laemarle race at Red Cedar and Rice Lake Speedways. Matt Robinson wins in Benadnock. Austin Reeves, our buddy with the Crown Vicky won for the fifth time at Pensacola. Joey Worth won the midget race at I-55. There was a, I didn't know this.
Starting point is 01:34:47 I don't know. Lorraine Park, or Raceway Park. I guess shut down. I opened up for the first time this year, this first time in a while this week. Josh Way, Brandon Letterman, T.J. Farr, Kyle Bates, and Derek Gatcom won the races there. Brendan Pfeiffer wins number four and five at Dominion. The ASA Midwest Tour at Gandrud. Sure.
Starting point is 01:35:11 The Grand Drud 250 at Wisconsin International Speedway to Justin. Mondike. Mondike. Grundy County Speedway win goes to Eddie Hoffman. Casey Johnson wins at Dells Raceway Park. Keith Rocco wins at Waterford. Chase Galamette. Gillamette.
Starting point is 01:35:28 Gimet. Gmette. Gmette. Gmette. Gmette. Gmendette. Vando's winner at Star Sunday. John Forlano wins the Extreme Dirt
Starting point is 01:35:33 Medget Association. Ironically, John Furlano sends me, he commented on one of the posts that I put out to like get it and it was not, it said John for law. I realized it afterwards, John Falano sent the comment and it says John Falano won the third person. Humble brag. I'll go Cam Weir won his first career late model race. I'm sorry, first career race at Lee Speedway. Rusty Slank, his name pops up almost every week on here. He swept the weekend at I-96 and Butler Speedway, Kyle Stroll, Gillian Snyder, and Shane Geis were the winners at Mahoning Valley. this week. Tommy Catalano won a big
Starting point is 01:36:05 sportsman race at Shemong. They said there was 25 cars or something. They're getting good car counts up there. That's good to see. Like we said, Jeffrey Battle won at Oswego. Connor Sousa won the late model race at Star. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:36:17 lay model race at Star and there's a bunch of... I think Connor Hall won Langley, right? Get out of here. Yeah. Yeah. What happened to him at the heat? Did he not? I know he didn't win.
Starting point is 01:36:28 He had a flattened. And he powdered, he said. I saw he was like head down. How cool is it, though, that he's running a blue truck at Richmond this company weekend. It looks just like the blue car. I thought that was cool.
Starting point is 01:36:39 Yeah. So hopefully, I mean, there's going to be a bunch more scrolling here. There was Nick Tito from up north there sends me probably 100 different winners. So they'll all be scrolling here from every track up north. So we appreciate you guys sending them in as always.
Starting point is 01:36:51 We just like to, as always, shine a light on some of the short track. They need it. Too many winners to shout out is a good problem to have. I think we're going to try to transition into maybe talking to somebody, at least once a week. So that'll maybe cut down on how many we read, but at least it's shine a little brighter light on somebody that wins a big race somewhere or a good story.
Starting point is 01:37:10 And think about that when you're sending them in too. Like, don't just tell me, you know, Keith Rocco wins at Waterford. We know that. But like if you got a good story, a first time winner, a lot of times, like we like stuff like that. And they want to read the good stories. Shouldn't they subscribe the area auto racing news, bono?
Starting point is 01:37:25 Sure. I mean, I'm not getting paid for this. Are you sure you're not getting paid for this? No, I might get free subscription. Oh, okay. the trip's coming out. But if they, I mean, still, that raised some paper, huh, Bono? Do you get it?
Starting point is 01:37:38 Do you still get it? Speedway scene's been closed for years. I was going, right? No, I'm kidding. Yeah, it is gone. Long time. Let's see, what else? I had on here, a couple things.
Starting point is 01:37:47 I did want to say, rest and peace to Bill McDowell passed away. It's Michael's dad. Big fan of the show. I was during the off week, so we didn't get a chance to talk about it last week. I ended up meeting him at, And so we have a, Michael and I have a mutual friend, Brian Hossford, and Brian came up to me at the Chili Bowl. He's like, somebody really wants to meet you.
Starting point is 01:38:08 And I was like, all right, cool. So I bring him over. And we're talking bullshit. And then he like, never said anything. He just was like, oh, man, I love the podcast. Love racing. And I was like, oh, man, I appreciate it. And he kind of walked away.
Starting point is 01:38:17 And Hosford's like, yeah, that's McDonald's dad. I was like, oh, shit. So then we got a week hooked up a bunch of times at the race. And unfortunately, when I saw him as Chili Bowl, he told me he was, he was sick. And he was, he was, he was going to a lot of races that he didn't get to go. too. So I'm glad he got, because that was probably two years ago. So he hung out and I think long enough to get through a lot of the stuff that he wanted to do. But just a great guy. And I know he listens to a show a lot. I know some of his buddies listen to a lot. So we're thinking about
Starting point is 01:38:43 him. I reached out to Mike. Just a great guy. So we're thinking about them guys. And yeah, what we got going on this week, Tom? Anything? Nothing for him? Kids racing? Nothing. Nothing. No, we're, I'll probably go to Richmond, maybe. Yeah? I want to go to Weed Sport, big dirt race on Sunday night. I think I might take a ride up there, hang out. Just drive up there? How long is that ride?
Starting point is 01:39:03 I don't know. It's got me fucking far. Just drive up there. Listen, I did some stuff going on up there. I might just end up going up to Weed Sport and watch it. Big race. I did 27 hours of driving during the off weekend. That's fucking stupid.
Starting point is 01:39:18 I don't know why I did that. How was the Pittsburgh game? Pittsburgh game was awesome. Oh, I got to give a shout out. I wish I could look the kid's name up. This is a great story. I'll probably get him in trouble. But so I did Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 01:39:30 We did Pittsburgh for the baseball game. Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame, Saratoga for the horse races. And while I went to the horse track, we're sitting. I got some regular seats, whatever, just Meg. You can get a general admission where you can walk up to the rail, but you don't have a seat. And I was like, oh, it might be 100 degrees. So I'm going to get a covered seat. And this kid walks up with box tickets.
Starting point is 01:39:47 He's like, hey, man, I love the podcast. I heard you were coming. Here you go. So we moved down in the box seats, sir. it's really just the same seat, but you get a TV and a server to bring you beer and whatever. And so we're sitting there, me and John are drinking beer,
Starting point is 01:40:01 Meg's drinking beer, and we're hanging out. And like an hour later, we're like, it's like, hey, let's congratulate today's winner of the New York bet's seat upgrade, Freddie.
Starting point is 01:40:10 And I'm like, oh, shit. We rigged the contest or something. So, so, so, out, I went to the Mets game too?
Starting point is 01:40:19 No, so no, no, just I went to, I just did the Pirates game um sarah the hall of fame saratoga and then williams grove on the way home and just kind of three or four days whatever it was but it was fun just we survived but meg didn't kill we didn't kill each other driving in the car that long or anything so that was good but yeah i was uh so what

Thursday. Yeah. Thursday. Who's driving? Who you got? 77 is Tristan McKee. All right. Well, Bono, thank you for coming on, hanging out with us today. Appreciate it. Drag gin here at least once. We had to do it at least one time. I'm glad, you know, even though I was a field filler.
Starting point is 01:41:23 It's okay. That's the first thing he said. Well, you can't find anybody else? Well, Sunday at 4 o'clock. I'm like, well, they obviously had somebody cop out. I'll tease it a little bit. We had a spotter lined up, and he was going to do it. And then his driver heard that he was going to do it.
Starting point is 01:41:42 And he said, you're not doing it without me. So, and it's a driver that's been ducking me for a while. And he's, and he needs to come on because he's kind of on a long windless streak. he's getting a lot of grief on here too. So I said, listen, if he wants to commit to a,
Starting point is 01:41:58 he said, you can't go out of me. And I said, if he commits to one in the next month, you can, you can take tomorrow off. So he committed to one
Starting point is 01:42:05 in the next month. So we'll see if it, if it comes through. But yeah, so yeah, we did have somebody bail last minute. And I said,
Starting point is 01:42:11 I said Tommy, Bono, slugert, park, call them right now and see which one of them's available. He was the first one. All right.
Starting point is 01:42:19 Love it. But yeah, we appreciate everybody listening. We will be back next week. I don't know who's, we don't have a guest lined up for next week yet, but it'll be a fun one. I'm sure there's been fun all year.
