Door Bumper Clear - Jamie McMurray: Hocevar is Missing One Thing to Be a Great Driver
Episode Date: September 7, 2026Jamie McMurray joins Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin and Karsyn Elledge on Door Bumper Clear this week, and they have a LOT to get into. It's a full Southern 500 breakdown to start. Why is Darlington argu...ably the toughest single test of the NASCAR season? How did Christopher Bell finally get that first win after finishing runner-up seven times? And was Denny Hamlin actually in the wrong for sliding Michael McDowell? Jamie says no, and he makes a pretty convincing case. The Carson Hocevar conversation isn't going away, either. What is he missing compared to the best drivers in the sport? Would an apology even change anything at this point? Plus, fan voicemails about Carson get... brutal. Then there's breaking news: Josh Berry is confirmed for the No. 42 next year, meaning John Hunter Nemechek is out. The guys break down the money, the timing, and why this move could be about a lot more than just results. There's also a completely unhinged hospital story that might be one of the wildest we've ever heard on DBC. We're not spoiling that one.Plus, Corey Day and William Sawalich's Chase beef, Otto Sitterly's sixth Bud Classic win, a call from 13-year-old racer Owen Larson after his big win, and Jamie McMurray's forgotten cameo in Talladega Nights. The following is a production of Dirty Bowie.
Is this the first time you've read the fucking sheet all year?
A bird's shit on my head.
That is what reaction theater is for.
Getting hammers and calling in.
Where did they speak?
Go.
I don't know.
Wax and Crescent.
It's going to be gripped up.
Absolutely.
It's two idiots.
Bubba did not do shit, unfortunately.
Period.
Period.
Hey, what's up everybody?
Welcome back to Door Bumper Clear.
I'm Freddie Craftspotter for Bubba Wallace and Dean Thompson at Darlington.
week. Thomas? Yeah, a long weekend. How are you? Doing good, man. Yeah. A little rain.
Florence and the swamp and sweat. It wasn't hot there, was it? No, I could have honestly
probably used a jacket. Yeah, my God, it was hot for two days there. But let me tell you, that Florence is,
I mean, it's, if you go back from years how it used to look compared it is now, what the Zach
Rice family have done, it's a badass. It's a badass. Yeah. They're in the story. And we went from there
to Carteret for
it was supposed to be for one day
but it was two days
and yeah
here we are
excellent Carson
cars tour weekend
yep I was having fun
down at Florence
and spent the rest of the weekend
switching over our old
merchandise trailer to our new ones
oh you got a new whip
and then I worked the J.R.M. gift shop on Monday
so I really was
I was
fucking did you have a lot of fans in the gift shop
on Monday
no the shop was the shop was bumping to
so at least I wasn't here by myself.
Bumpin?
There was a lot going on out there.
You said whip and she said bumping.
I'm way, way too old.
Welcome to the show.
Welcome to the show,
Jamie McMurray.
Yeah, Jamie McMurray.
How are you welcome back?
Sir, always one of our favorite guests.
We didn't set you up this time, right?
He says that to everybody.
But we didn't set you up.
Last time we had you here,
we set you up for a pain scheme review.
I promise there's no setup today.
We just wanted to hang out.
I got here early and snooped around.
If there was anything.
There's no courage.
I'm hanging over the window today.
How's everything?
I know you've been man of many hats,
race dad as well as commentating.
Yep, TV's kept me.
My first half of the season's way busier
because of the Fox.
I go to the track every weekend.
Well, honestly,
for the first 19 weeks,
for the most part,
I go almost every weekend.
And then obviously doing the Turner stuff.
CW, we do some there,
some here.
But the first half of the year is really busy.
The second half is a little bit lighter.
I get to go with Carter a few more times
to his races.
I was actually with Tommy at Carteret on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
And it might have been hot in Florence, but I think that Carteret would give you a run for your money.
It was like 105 heat index.
It was just, it was extremely hot.
We had 107.
So I think we got it.
So you win.
Yeah, yeah, Carter would start with that.
Carter, we could be a big win.
Obviously, ran good this weekend, but big win.
Hickory a couple weeks back.
I mean, how awesome is that at a place like Hickory, especially?
It's been really fun, you know, with Carter as a dad, kind of watching him progress.
And, yeah, we, Michael Klein, we ran his late model.
We've run it four or five times so far.
We're going to run a few more times towards the end of the year.
But, yeah, Carter was able to win a couple features in the same night.
It was the first one he started on the pole and, you know, was able to get away a little bit.
The second one, they had to invert, like, I don't know, eight or ten cars.
And so he had to work his way through the field.
It was fun to watch that all happen.
and then we went and did, yeah,
we were doing the smart tour also with Tommy and his kids,
and that's a lot of fun.
The Carteret race was interesting
because it ran about 90 laps, green, straight, and 105.
So it's, but it's, you know,
it's such different racing from the late model to the modified.
The modified teaches you so much of kind of,
especially there managing tires and your pace,
and you can go harder if you want,
but you pay a massive penalty on the backside.
And, you know, where that limited late model,
he acts like you do.
just as hard as you can drive it every single lap. So it's, it's two different things, but it's good
for him to get to do something different. And, you know, I was just having this conversation with
someone as we pulled in here, there, there's no, there's no better feeling than being proud of
your kid. Like that sensation, even at Carter, at Carter finished fifth. And I thought he started
12th and did a great job, worked his way up, you know, towards the front. And I just, you know,
I saw him afterwards and I'm like, you know, just that feeling of getting to share those moments with
your kid. It makes all of, all of the 105-year heat worth being there. And it's just, it's,
it's super fun. How important is it to have him drive as much different stuff as possible?
Because I've seen him in the legend car. I've seen him in Modified now. I've seen him in late models.
Like, how important is that for his growth to just drive as much different stuff as he possibly?
Yeah. If I didn't have a budget, we'd race something every weekend and be something different,
whether it's doing Trans Am or the Miottas, I think, are really good. The legend cars were good.
I mean, yeah, I mean, to get in something different every week is, is exactly what you
want to do. I mean, I think, I would say Harvick is the standard of, of, if, not that money is not an
issue, but they have a massive budget. And Keelan just gets to race something every weekend. And I,
I'd tell Kevin, because we work together the first half, I'm like, I'm so jealous of what you're
getting to do, because, I mean, it just, it's the ultimate way to get to learn and being something
different all the time. Yeah. Let's talk about CW a little bit. Obviously, I think numbers have been
fantastic while, you know, viewership wise. Have you seen a big difference from year one to year two,
like production side of things or or just, I mean, obviously last year was their first year,
a lot of its NASCAR side of things. But, you know, has there been a much of a difference from
the first year or the second year? Not, not really. They, they had such a strong team when we started that
and they do just such a good job. And here's the thing. It's not just, I feel like Adam Parker and I
get a lot of credit because of the booth and that's what people hear a lot. But they have Caleb's
great producer, Roger does a great job directing. Like everybody that's a part of that team, just,
first off, they enjoy it.
Like, I can't tell you the vibe.
Is that good word?
You like that?
Vibe.
That works.
That was good for a wimp or whip.
They got a good whip.
They got a, yeah.
All right, we don't have a whip.
But the vibe over there is just really good.
It's just super positive.
And we've had some great moments, Atlanta this year when Creed won.
It was like such a fun race to get to call.
And, you know, I hear a lot because of being at the track with Carter, there's a lot of race fans, right,
that watch those races.
And I can't tell many people come up
and they're just like,
we love listening to those races
because you guys seem so excited.
And I try to tell everybody,
we don't seem excited we are.
Like I just,
we watch those races and they're just,
it's fun.
I mean,
the O'Reilly series,
it seems like every week,
it's a battle to the end,
even though Allgaier tends to win most of them.
It's a little bit of a race at the end.
So yeah,
it's a great time.
I enjoy getting to do it.
Yeah.
Truck racing this year.
You got to make a,
well,
you were out there.
That's a big, that was a big statement you made.
And I don't know that I haven't talked to you guys since then.
Yeah, that's why we had to catch up on this.
We did, so Carter and I did a lot of like eye racing and stuff leading up to it.
And Dodge had a sim kind of put together for that track to learn the track.
And I don't think anyone put more effort into learning the track than I did.
It did not pay off very well.
But every time we did irasing, Carter would be, I don't know, I have a second quicker, a second quicker.
and with no effort.
And in my mind, I'm like, wow, you just wait.
Like when I get there and I get in, it'll be different.
And after I ran the first practice, I got out, I looked at him.
I was like, I think you should get in this thing.
I'm like, I think we should just put a dark visor on and let you have this moment because
this is not for me.
It was hard, though.
Not to make excuses, but when we got there, it was extremely hard track.
The transmission in practice and qualifying, every time you were in third year,
it would pop out of gear when you get on the brakes.
So that just adds a whole different element to it.
And then a bleeder screw backed out early on in the race.
So I lost all the brakes.
And then we kind of bled them,
but they really weren't where they need to be.
And it's disaster.
So you signed back up to do another one yet.
Oh, listen, they were like,
would you like to do Homestead?
They rattled off three or four.
And I was like,
we should see how this weekend go.
Yeah, Homestead would be a fun one to get out there in the middle of everything.
Yeah, I think they saw my post-race interview and knew that
that I wasn't going to do another one and done.
I was good.
Are you, we haven't seen you since this either.
Are you tired of talking about your ass on flow yet?
No, it's, uh,
man, that was embarrassing.
I thought they were talking about Carter.
I did too.
I did too.
Yeah, I mean, I've told the story bunch.
You've probably heard it.
But when I, um, after I put my clothes on and I got back to my helmet bag,
my phone was was vibrating a lot.
And Elliot Sadler was one of them.
But my wife was the first one.
And she's, her text was simply like, my mom said she thinks she just saw you naked on TV.
And I was like, I just in my mind, I'm like, what the heck?
I don't know that.
What is she talking about?
In this day and age of AI, like, how could she have seen that, you know, like.
What corner of QVC is she on?
And then, and then, and then I saw it.
I'm like, you know, I'm still glad I didn't turn around.
Oh, man.
That, that was, that was, hey, we were at the racetrack somewhere.
racing and somebody's like, do you see this? And I was like, no.
Yeah, we were somewhere too. Oh, wow.
I thought you were joking, but no, apparently.
No, and what's weird is, and I don't, a lot of the kids still wear underwear, under their
underwear. Under their fireproof underwear. And that makes, I'm like, well, that defeats the purpose.
And I tell people, it's like, if you ever put, like, your snow gear on, like a pair of pants overpants,
even though they're thin, it's a lot, right? And so I'm like, why, I want all the room I can have in that area.
I don't want it to be tight.
Oh, man.
Unreal. Unreal.
Yeah.
Well, Cup race this weekend.
We got to see about win.
I think people were happy about that.
And another week of talking about our best budget.
Yeah, we'll get to all those guys in spot on, spot off.
Tommy, I did want to ask you and Jamie as well, is the Southern 500 the best test of the entire team on the schedule?
Absolutely.
It is, you pray, when you make that first run on tires, you pray.
pray, you make a half a pound or a pound, whatever back then or still today, you pray that the
track is the same because I have never seen in my life a car change after a pit stop with no changes
or a minor change in my life. And that's even from the first to the second stop. That's not from the
first to the 12th stop. And look, it's, it was clear to me after the race that this championship is going to be
based off the team, not just the driver.
There are too many equal cars now, right?
Mostly at the Toyota camp that it's all going to be about pit road.
That's, I mean, and you've seen it the other day.
I mean, you've seen it.
Jamie, we see, so it's kind of weird because the first race, the spring race is a 400-mile,
obviously, southern 500, 500 miles, but the runs are shorter in the 500-mile race.
Just the way the stages lengths are, it's faster to pit twice during the first stage.
than it is once in the first race.
So, I mean, you're seeing these pit crews make nine, ten, eleven pit stops.
I mean, that's why I think it's just like the, as far as a team aspect goes,
like this race is the most important for the entire team.
Yeah, I mean, I'm trying to come up with something different than what Tommy said right there.
You know, from the driver's perspective, it's mentally exhausting with just how close you run
to the wall.
And also, you know, it's so hard to convince yourself when you come out of the,
the pits that you're going to go four seconds or three seconds a lap quicker and that the car is
going to have grip. And honestly, the track's way easier to drive on new tires than it is old tires.
When you put the tires on, you don't have to get right against the wall. You can run that
middle lane or even the bottom lane in turns three and four. But then, you know, as the pace falls
off, it's when do I move up and start running against the wall. And I still just, like, I was,
I could always run higher than most at tracks you didn't run high at, but I was not good at
running right against the wall. And I watch Reddick or Larson. I mean, there's a lot of them now
that can do it, and they just run right against it. And it's fascinating to me. And I thought NBC did
a really nice job as showing that perspective down the back stretch where you actually turn right
to get to the, because that's what you did. You know, you literally drive down the straightaway,
and you're like, here we go again, turn right to get up against the wall and hope that I don't
hit it. But yeah, it's, it is, it's an incredible test to make it through 500 miles.
there. The heat is always a factor there.
I don't feel like I really heard guys
complain about heat though. Yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't
awful into the night.
Obviously, it was hot to start, but into the night
it was pretty, you know, I felt
the temperature come down at least, thank God.
But yeah, like, it was, the
thing that I wanted to ask you about, from driver's perspective,
I really haven't got a chance to talk to Bubba about it.
Our car was phenomenal, really, really
good while the sun was up.
We lost a little bit of pace at the end of the race,
got a little, you know, just a little bit of balance swing
there. But we also couldn't run as high.
I don't think, but visually, how much does that change for you in the car where broad daylight?
You're hitting your marks, but you've got to be so precise to run the fence.
And now, you know, at stage two, start of stage three, it's now it's a completely different, you know, this eyesight, you know, the lights changed.
I would say, I always felt like it was easier at night because there's no glare.
And especially, and I don't, I didn't, no one really complained about it this week.
I don't know the way the sun went down, but down the backstretch, you know, you have to run.
against the wall. And you can't see anything until right at the last second. And so that,
that makes it a bigger challenge. But once the sun goes down, I always ran that race in two,
like, first half, second half, because the first half I knew it was going to be really hot.
You were going to have glare. You couldn't see. Second half, it was going to cool down. And not that it
got easier at that point, but just there were some elements that you didn't have to fight as a driver.
But yeah, I mean, your car is so important. I mean, it's so important every single week.
But when you get there, you're freaking, you're just, you're very dependent on the amount of grip you have.
see it, you know, just in the four or five laps difference in tires, how much quicker guys can run.
Not everyone, but for the most part, if you have two cars that are equal, if you have five,
seven lap, more laps on your tires, it just, it looks like you have something broke.
Yeah.
We did that the first, not the first, the first, the first one was this competition caution.
So then the first green flag cycle, somebody had pit right behind us.
And it was like, you can't, you can't cover them once you, they pit, they're going to be
ahead of you, if you pit right away.
And then you have no tired advantage.
So we kind of ran longer and it paid off dividends at the end.
I love that, though.
I would say that's the best part of that race watching is guys start to pit.
And the mindset was always just be the first on pit road.
That's what you always did at that place.
And if you could, you would cycle out in front and they almost would never get back by you.
I think it's awesome now.
They run seven laps longer and you're like, okay, well, I'm not to wait 20 minutes to figure out how it's going to work out.
But we don't really have the cautions.
And when it does work out, I love that.
I mean, to me, it puts this strategy in play.
and it changes, I feel like, run to run too,
because if you have a car that's really good on the long run,
then the crew chief can make that decision of like,
you know what, we're going to go long here.
I think it's going to benefit us.
But you might be able to do that one run,
but then the next run, you're like, oh, my God,
like I'm terrible now.
We have to pit.
Perfect example was, so we did that.
We gained, and I think it was like, in our minds,
it was probably like, we need to do that.
You know, we run to our optimum lap time,
whatever that, you know, lap number, whatever that is.
And the next run, it was like we're leading.
and I think Reddick was second, maybe the 19 was third or vice versa.
And we're maintaining like a five, six car gap.
And we ran up on the 33.
And now we're at the end of a tire life.
We couldn't get around them.
And it was like the front side of the window.
And it was like, shit.
Like now we kind of got to come here because if not we're stuck, we'll let everybody catch us.
And now we pit it early.
But now at the end of the next run, we kind of paid for it.
So it's the race within the race.
It's so much fun.
It's fun to watch.
That's why it's like for me, like sitting up there watching, obviously, I have a bird's eye view.
And I hope that, I mean, you, like, how is it, how hard is it for you guys in the booth to paint that picture when obviously, you know, the camera lens can only show, you know, a race for position or the leaders where you know, we pit from the lead, we come out 10th.
Now we're going to start mowing people down and go and buying it.
But how hard is that to show, you know, the people that aren't in the race track?
Well, I'm fortunate because I do O'Reilly.
And we don't have that near.
I mean, it's pretty rare.
you have that.
Yeah.
But that story is almost impossible to tell.
Unless you know, if you have lap times in front of you,
there's so much stuff that you have to see to understand how that's going to work out.
And also, I feel like you have to have watched it before to be like,
oh, yeah, I remember this last time we were here.
Steve did a good job, though, the other night.
He does a tremendous job.
I hate to give him a compliment.
Well, they followed Bubba on that run, and they followed Denny when he came out 15 seconds
behind, and he worked himself all the way up to about three or four seconds.
I think the car should come out of something.
But again, I'm listening to you guys.
At the end of the day, it's about the crew chief making the right adjustments.
And it's about the pit crews now.
I mean, you've seen those guys doing eight-second stops.
You've seen the guys doing 95.
7.86, by the way.
Shout out to the 23 boys for the fastest-stop ever.
Look, all the whole top 16, they run up top.
They run against the wall.
All 16 guys have.
incredible talent, right?
It's, the cars are maxed out now because of the playoffs, right?
It's now a people, they have put it in the team's hands now, right?
They have put it where it's the whole team, the team that makes the least mistakes during the next.
Nine weeks.
It's going to be the winner.
So one thing that he mentioned Lutart did a good job, it's so hard on TV.
And I liked NBC put that.
lap chart graph up where you could see like when someone pitted how much faster they ran and then
when the next guy pitted and how he ran you know four tenths quicker but he has to continue to that
for the rest the hard part in tv is to explain that in 12 seconds and be able to point everything out but
i thought i thought i thought NBC's steve jeff i thought those guys did a nice job kind of trying to
trying to explain that and the good thing is you get three stages like all right yeah here we go
Yeah, like it's happening again.
Steve's always, he seems ahead of, he can talk faster because he's ahead of it.
He knows.
Because he already is anticipating those decisions.
He's been a crew chief, right?
So he anticipates what everybody's thinking, you know.
The driver, they're just out there.
I tell me when I got a pitch.
You're helpless.
Yeah.
That's why, I mean, Steve does a really good job because he's been through all those different scenarios.
Let me give a shameless plug here real quick because we're talking about LaTart.
He and I do a show on Mondays called Inside the Race.
And the concept of that show is to do a more technical dive into races like Darlington of,
this is why you did it or this is why it worked or why it didn't work out.
And you have time to do a three or four minute analysis of what they're trying to do in like 15 seconds on TV.
So if you're curious and you're listening to this and you want to know if you'll go and look at Inside the Race,
there's normally a really good technical breakdown.
How hard is it for you guys to balance the...
Tommy Baldwin watching versus one of our producers.
You know what I mean?
Like, you know, how does that?
I mean, obviously, you can't get too technical,
but you also don't want to make it so remedial that everybody, you know.
I think you have to dumb it down from what you're comfortable with
because the people that don't understand are much greater than the group in the garage.
And what I hope for is that the group in the garage knows that I do know
and that I'm just trying to talk it down a little bit.
And I feel like that's the general consideration.
I think all you guys do a really good job in the different areas that you're working right now.
I mean, obviously, you said it's a little bit easier with the O'Reilly's deal and the trucks.
They just run two heat races and they're done.
But, I mean, the amount of work, and look, I don't know why we're talking about Steve so much.
It's because he's good at him.
He is, man.
He's probably the best, I think.
He is.
He is, because he's just, again, he's just, he's just.
He's always, he's so far ahead of it.
He can explain it to the fan the way it needs to be because he's, he's not there looking
and thinking at the same time.
He's already thought about it.
So it comes out easier.
It's already built.
Yeah, it's already built in his head.
So it comes out so much easier to flow, you know, how he explains things.
I mean, the basic fan gets it.
I'll tell you this.
I have a 13-year-old daughter and she talks a lot.
You're riding a car with Steve.
You're like, I wish I could have my 13-year-old daughter back.
Does that sound a good?
He's like, he can't stop talking.
He hasn't stopped talking since the 80s.
When he closes his eyes, I like, oh.
Anytime I've gotten to hit your ride on Dale's plane and I walk up
when I see Steve's getting on there to him like, fuck, I can get a nap in today.
God love him, though.
What did you guys think about the five choosing to stay out on that last caution that they threw for rain?
Yeah, I don't really think they had a choice based off, you know, kind of what Cliff said
where his pit stall was and who he had to come around.
He was going to, you know, if you think about it, after he said it,
they were going to end up coming back out fifth to seventh anyway.
And those Toyotas, I mean, look, you've run enough runs already.
You know where your speed is, right?
And everybody knew that, you know, briskos front run, you know,
front speed was good.
Denny's, you know, Denny got hurt, but all them guys were too fast in the beginning
that the five was going to get around them.
So, yeah, I think they made the right call.
And you're hoping in that moment, Jamie, like,
you make that call and you hope for help.
Right.
I mean, here's why it's a good call.
They weren't going to win the race off pit road.
They were already, I think they were running fourth at the time.
So they're not going to win the race off pit road.
If they stay out and they run five laps and the caution comes out again,
they're all pitting again anyway.
So, like, then they might cycle to the front.
So they played the cards they were dealt.
And unfortunately, it wasn't the right set of cards.
But look, the five car had a mega night, I think.
Because we talked about this on a few of the shows I did last week of when the chase starts,
everybody cheats isn't the right word.
But everybody gets faster.
Everybody shows everything that they have all of a sudden.
And so to me, the toilet still seemed to be the top, have the most speed.
But Byron ran pretty well.
I thought Chase Elliott had some moments.
Larson ran really well at time.
at one point, Larson drove away three or four seconds from everybody.
So it's there.
It's just there.
Kyle explained it like they're like on a razor's edge, like tight loose.
And if they get it right, it's still fast where the Toyota's just seemed like they have a wider.
A window.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The ours was, I mean, our window was pretty small.
I felt like we were really, really good beginning of the race.
We drove up from wherever we started like 17th to end up leading the race there after that second pit cycle.
And then, yeah, it just got like a little bit.
Like when sun went down, we were second to Larson,
but was like, I'm a little too free here.
And then we tightened it up a little bit,
and then we lost track position.
So that kind of, and it was just like that way,
that we fought that.
We had one little slip up on pit road that took us from like fifth or six
to like eighth or ninth.
And then that's kind of where we stayed the rest of the night.
It was just like, but it's like you talked about Tommy,
it's just everything is so close now.
You can't afford to have any mistakes.
It's so hard to bounce back from.
And at the end of the day,
that's what put the 11 in that position where he got in trouble.
I mean, it's just like, you know, he can be aggravated all he wants.
I mean, I try not to listen to Denny's stuff until three, you know, on Thursdays when we're traveling,
but I've seen some clips of it this morning, and he was mentioning with McDowell of what he should have did, what he shouldn't have did.
You know, at the end of the day, he was sliding up towards that fence.
He had to, I mean, he had to let off the gas.
I mean, what was McDowell were going to do?
It sounded like Denny wanted him to compensate for it and let off because he knew he was going.
But at the end of the day, the pit stop is what put them back there.
Hang on, so two things.
The Jackman's become the most important guy on the whole pick crew, right?
Because they can't, you can't see the left rear and the left front at the same time.
It's got a little bit of a guess of when they're releasing that.
The whole thing with McDowell, though, and Hamlin, I see differently.
And the reason I see that differently is because Denny slid him,
but there's such a bigger picture here that you have to tell.
If you are, and I'm not trying to be critical of anyone, but if you are McDowell,
you know Denny Hamlin's led the entire year and has basically been the fastest car all year long.
You also know that he's probably run in the front of this race the whole time and he's had a bad pit stop.
He's coming, right?
Like you know he's going to make some moves.
Denny is not an overly aggressive driver.
He's not, now when it gets into the race, it might be a little bit different, but
Denny's pretty methodical and pretty smooth.
When he slid McDowell, I mean, it wasn't even close.
He was way ahead of him.
of course he had to check up.
And McDowell would have known that.
Like, well, he's never going to make the corner.
I know it.
So I don't know the mentality of what Michael was thinking right there,
but that was avoidable for sure.
It was, but if you look where it happened,
that's a bad spot to check up.
That's where that you're off the corner
and that's where you would always get the guys to lift
and you would steer down really quick and get underneath them.
I mean, it just happened quick.
I mean, yeah, 100%.
I mean, you know, you watch.
Denny come through the field.
You watch Ryan Blaney come through the field.
Everybody, they treat those guys a little bit differently because they don't, like,
race you.
Well, it's also inevitable.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, I'm serious.
And I heard, actually, I heard Denny reference this.
It seems like it's come back a little bit.
There was this, you know, era that when someone, like, it was almost, when I first came
along, it was too much.
Like, if someone got within Fort Carly's of you, they're like waving you by.
Like, I'll see you later, right?
and then all of a sudden, about the time I stopped driving,
it was like that just ended all together.
It does seem like there's a little more give and take now.
Hey, that's how we made up a lot of the ground we made up on that run
when we went, you know, we ran long because guys knew we were coming.
We had five lap better tires.
But Darlington's a little bit different, Freddie.
It's unique.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because those guys know if they race you hard, one or two laps,
it is different.
So, Donaldson's a different place.
Yeah, but yeah.
And we'll get to the McDowellellell stuff a little more too.
because we're going to talk about spire in a hole, I think, in spot on, spot off.

Was there an O'Reilly race this week, I guess?
Yeah, I was wondering when you guys wanted to get to it.
Sheldon Creed win.
Why did you let Dean and Daniel Dye run into each other?
I don't know what the fuck Daniel Dye was thinking about.
Speaking of coming and getting out of the way and whatnot,
we had put tires on and we were just kind of rolling back through the field there.
And there was that one pit stop in the beginning of the race kind of shook everything off.
I shouldn't say pit stop.
The yellow in the beginning of the race kind of shook things up.
where like the 20 stayed out and there was, you know, majority of the field had pit.
And then I thought when I saw those guys pit, I'm like, oh, they must be coming back at the stage break.
You know, they're all just going to put tires on and just so, you know, sacrifice the set for later.
And nobody came back.
And I was like, oh, shit, now we're going to be on offense.
And so some of the guys towards the back, like, Allgaier was going to hang on a little bit.
Them guys up front were going to be fine.
But like, the Daniel dies, the 28.
Some of those guys, like, we're going to fade.
And here we come off a four with a massive run down the front.
And Dye was side by, he had done like the entry to side by side and the three with, I think, Kyle Seag.
And he just had no momentum off of four, couldn't get clear of the 28th.
So then he kind of had to just get back in line.
And here we come from the top lane with all the head momentum in the world.
And he just decides he's going to throw like a late block on us for some reason.
And Dean just kind of ran in the square of the back bumper and they hit him so hard.
It turned him in the wall.
But I have like, I don't really.
I know the spotter didn't tell him to do it.
I don't know really know.
I think I'd have to assume that Daniel knows now that that was pretty done.
But it was, I mean, it was for like 20-somethingth place probably.
And we were just mowing through the field back there trying to get back to where we were running.
But just silly stuff like that is what was get some of these young guys in trouble where they're making moves like, oh, I got to throw this block.
Because you talk about it.
Like in the Cup series, we do.
Like we block the shit out of each other.
Darlington's 10 mile an hour, 12-mile an hour difference.
And you're going to go by the guy into the next corner.
If the spider's doing his job and go, man, this guy's coming.
He's got 12-lap better tires.
He's 4, 2.6 seconds fasted in you.
Let him go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's, I mean, it's just the, you know, you see that.
Like in a place like Vegas or Kansas, whatever, maybe you could hold a guy up.
You know, you might, but you, like at Darlington, we're, if, all right, great.
If you, if he accomplished that block, we were just going to pass him in one and two the next corner.
So, like, it's just unnecessary.
But, yeah, you see a little bit of it.
You saw we'll get to Corey Day and Swalwich and spot on, spot off.
You see, like, racing hard is, is.
thing at Darlington. It's always the same people.
We'll talk about it. But Creed is somebody that
I remember him being a position to win this race a couple
times with the two car. He's just a guy that gets around that place really good.
Good to see him win, kind of catapults himself right into the
championship hunt. We'll see how much consistency they can have. But
you know, how much does this, Jamie, for you,
we talked about Allgaier. You know, I'd sit on here last week. He was going to wrap it up
before Homestead. This
nine race, I think that's a nine race. I think that's a nine
race chase for them, right?
Yes, they have eight left.
Eight left.
How much different...
Can we make that the same, by the way?
But it's so confusing.
And then the trucks are seven, I think.
But, you know,
he comes out of there up by seven, right?
I think.
Yep, he's seven up.
If you only have two races left,
like we did last year,
how much more panic is it now versus
he knows he's been the best car?
I just got to regroup,
and I got eight more races to rebuild this gap.
Yeah, I mean,
Algar would still be the pick.
if you know, that was my pick to win the championship
and he would still be my pick.
But man, the one thing that the points format
has shown is just when you win,
it's 20 points.
You can make it up really quick
or lose it really quick.
And Creed would make me nervous now
because he was on a run earlier this year
when he'd won at Atlanta, like top three,
just four or five races in a row
and the amount of points he was accumulating.
He'll be dangerous.
I think that Carson still is,
the guy that all guys got to have his eye on.
And he did gain a little bit on.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know, it's not like he didn't gain on the seven.
You could see it in the race.
I don't know how well it was showing on TV.
Oh, yeah.
The seven was, they both kind of like Bubba on Saturday, on Sunday.
The seven and the one were the class of the field early in the race.
And as the night shifted in, they just kind of faded away a little bit.
And that one run at the end where the seven was bleeding pretty hard.
He was racing the shit out of the one car.
It was, I mean, more him than anybody else it seemed like.
And it's got to be because you think,
in his mind, that's his biggest competition, though?
Yeah, absolutely.
We said it last week.
He just gets so many stage points.
And, I mean, it's just, he's just so, so solid.
But, you know, the difference between Carson and Sheldon,
is Sheldon has quite a bit more experience
and has had the disappointments of the points races over the years
and has a little bit of momentum right now.
And that team has the same engines.
Like, they could be tough for him.
You talk about the difference.
winning and even second.
We had Sunday night, we had the third highest points.
We had 44 points.
So we lost 29 points with top five in both stages,
finish eighth, and lost 30 points to the guy that won the race.
29 points to the guy that won the race.
It's insane.
Winning still matters.
It's good.
It's what it's supposed to be.
You know, you've eliminated when you're in, but, you know, it's a good balance.
What else we got?
Oh, John Hunter.
Yeah, I was going to ask, which, what part of the news we
we're going to break first.
We're going to tell everybody
we're going to announce right now.
You want to announce it right now?
Let's announce who is driving.
Who's driving the 42 next year?
Josh Barry.
Josh Barry.
Congratulations.
You heard it here first, folks.
You heard it here first.
Jamie, let me ask you this.
Does this change happen?
This is official.
That's official announcement.
Yeah, I know.
I mean, you heard it here first.
Except you're going to hear it three other places
before you hear the show.
But does this change happen
if Josh doesn't go on this run of
whatever it is now six, seven top tens in a row?
I think that has an influence on this,
but I think like when I look at this,
it's the accidents that John Hunter's been in consistently as well.
I don't think it's one or the other.
It's both of those things just, I think it kept stacking up against John Hunter.
But I mean, didn't they announce in May that John Hunter was coming back?
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
A lot of stuff had to happen.
I heard tea.
Did you all hear tea or is that not true?
There's no true to that.
That's not true?
No.
Did you hear about him and Jimmy?
Him and Jimmy.
Tea is like the gossip.
He's talking about him and Jimmy.
Jeez, we can learn in all kinds of things.
Is it T-E-E?
T-E-A.
Tee like you have in tea.
Like you're sipping tea talking about whatever's going on.
Yeah, bullshit.
You're talking about the Jimmy Johnson rumors?
Yeah.
No truth to that I don't think.
The fighting?
Yeah.
Jimmy Dahn.
Yeah.
Jimmy Johnson's not.
I was also wondering what the fuck John Hunter
Neumachach and Jimmy Johnson.
Johnson would have to fall out over.
I'll tell you who has a lot,
would have a lot in influences the manufacturer of Toyota.
You know, they...
Of course, yeah.
Obviously, they put a lot of money into legacy,
and they, all the other teams are right up front and right.
And they're paying these teams to run up front.
And I think when that situation came about that Josh was available,
I think it opened up a little...
It's interesting, though, because they've already signed John Hunter.
And from what I under, I don't know this factual,
but I think John Hunter also brings a little bit of a partnership with him.
So this is...
Is it the By Parker?
So, yeah.
I don't know,
but it's something where...
I don't know if Barry is bringing funding with him.
So like it's...
There's had to be a little more going on to what we know about.
It's a big financial jerky boys.
It's a big...
The fuck does jerky boys have to do with this.
Dirty Movie is going to be on the car next year.
You're talking about...
I don't know driver salaries.
You know, I would assume it's, you know,
John Hunter's making. I would say this move,
if John Hunter's making a couple million
dollars and the sponsor is probably
bringing $3 to $4 million, and then
you've got to pay Josh, probably
similar to what you're paying John Hunter, I mean,
you're talking about, this is a $8,
10, whatever the millions
of dollars, you know, this is the move
you're making, because you've got to buy them out now because you just
re-signed him. That's not necessarily true.
Oh, yes, it is.
You got to buy him out because you just resigned him.
That's not fully necessary true yet.
I'm saying, okay.
Well, whatever.
But you're losing a sponsor.
You can violate a contract.
You're losing his sponsor.
That's paying money.
How do you know this?
Because I know, buddy.
How do you know?
Don't worry about it.
Tell us how you know.
Who told you this?
And listen, you talk about sponsors.
Did Guy Fieri tell you this?
Yeah, one of the 27 celebrity legacy owners called me.
That weekend in Loudon didn't bode well for him.
You know, that was the Dollar Tree weekend.
The Dollar Tree was on his car, his truck.
where he's making stupid mistakes.
Like, John Hunter is a very talented race car driver,
and we've spent a lot of time this summer
talking about a lot of dumb shit he's done,
and unfortunately, I think it just eventually
came back to bite him in the ass.
And I hope he lands on his feet.
I don't think it's going to be in the Cup series.
I think it's going to have to be a truck or O'Reilly car.
And I hope he just kind of gets back
to just trying to go out and perform
instead of, like, he just races to ever live and shit at you
in whatever it is.
And that's fine,
but unfortunately for him he kind of steps over the line a couple times and makes contact
or gets into somebody and crashes them and that's the shit that can't happen because that's
when it reflects poorly on you, your sponsors, you know, especially when you have a big
weekend like that. So, you know, I think that, but to me it's, it's so
difficult to say if this movie even happens if Josh doesn't go on this run because you look at
Josh was averaging a fucking 27th place finish two months and a half ago.
What happened though, Freddie? Well, we went to the tracks that really benefit the
Penske cars. Yeah, but you've seen a little bit of a
You've seen uptick on the Penn, all three of those other three Penske cars as well, right?
I mean, they were better, but they weren't, they weren't a contention to win.
The 22, won the 12 one three at the last five, right?
But I'm talking about, yeah, but we're talking about flat, mile, a mile, short tracks, you know, the plate race.
You know, we went to a place that catered to those guys really well.
We talked about that's all the gap, what Ligano did to make up that gap.
So, you know, it's just scheduling, schedule-wise, and timing worked out perfectly for Josh to where he put
He won at Vegas still last year, too, right?
Didn't he win in Vegas?
Josh won the first raise of Vegas last year.
I would say to get back to you guys went on a little bit of a tangent there.
Sorry.
Well, we're not professional trained TV.
Yeah, we didn't go to school like you did.
I did not go to school.
Dale Carnegie.
I don't know any of the facts of that, but I think John Hunter's actions on track probably have heard him.
Josh Barry, what he's done on the track has helped him.
Oh, thank you for putting so professional.
Well, I'm just saying, like, I think that those are the, those are played into this.
He just took what you spent.
10 minutes explaining and said it in two sentences how it should be.
I do think that there is from a driver's perspective that drivers don't ever try harder.
I don't feel like Josh Barry is like, you know what, I've lost my job.
I think I'm going to take this more serious.
I don't think that happens consciously.
I do think, however, as humans, when we think things are getting ready to go bad, we find a way to find a number.
You were good at it.
find enough.
But that's why I'm saying that.
I know every contract year.
Every contract year.
Yes, it was.
You want to look it up?
Tommy's making shit up again.
I'm going to sit there right there.
I think Barry's found a little bit just mentally.
Not because he wants to do better,
but I think it's just the reality.
And we talked about this a lot on here.
When you get the snowball going the other way,
when you're not going out first and fucking qualifying every week,
it just gets better.
And it's, you know, like you don't qualify 30th every week.
So now you're not.
stuck in this hole for a month.
You know, it's just, there's a snowball effect can go both ways.
And if you start running good, you're going to find yourself qualifying better and running better
and cleaner air.
Your car's going to handle better.
Like, it just, it just continues to pile up.
So, I mean, good for Josh.
He deserves it.
He's a really, really good race car driver.
Did it the hard way.
And, you know, it's going to be good to see him in the Toyota camp.
And hopefully, he races the hell out of us, which I think he does everybody.
Yeah, I don't think you'll have a problem with that.
It'll be fun to watch.
You mentioned Penske during your Gettysburg address there too.
They switched up pit crews for Blaney and Cindrick.
Yeah, I don't think, I mean, I get it.
You had to make a move.
Probably wanted to make a move at least.
I don't know if you had to.
I think I was looking at Bozzy's stats here tonight,
and they were pretty similar to each other.
I feel like they've kind of been similar to each other.
But maybe Blaney gets a little...
Blaney's crew got a little more heat because he was leading races when they made
mistakes, and Austin probably was just losing three or four spots mid-pack.
So it wasn't the light shined on him.
But I think you probably just make this move.
Maybe just a little spark for both.
We'll show you.
One thing that I do know is that the Blaney average is highly skewed because at Phoenix, he lost like literally 48 positions or something because of loose wheels.
And so there were a couple of races that when you look at like where they rank, it puts them down in that 32nd place.
I don't think that pit crew was truly a 32nd place pit crew, but it was it was a little skewed.
because of the fact that he would come in leading
and then go out last because of a pit stop issue.
Well, that's what it is.
Well, I understand that, but what I'm saying is,
like, there's a couple of races that really move the average
where it's not.
I also, if I were in Blaney's shoes or those pickers,
I wouldn't have wanted the switch.
And I just feel like that puts, like,
a spotlight on those guys all of a sudden
that you have to perform.
And I thought you had a really good point there, Freddie,
of there is such a big difference
of coming down pit road in first or second
or coming down pit road in 10th or 11th.
It's a totally different level of nerves at those guys' face.
Spot on.
Spot on.
Did you want to go first on this one?
I think he's a whiny bit.
That's what I think.
Send it.
Why me?
All right, we'll get into a little spot-on, spot off.
I know there's a lot in here that we're looking forward to talking about.
First off, Christopher Bell wins his first race of the season after 7.7.
second place finishes, but it won't be his last.
Spot on, spot off.
Tommy, what do you think?
Yeah, I think it won't be his last for sure.
Spot on.
It's, it's, uh, he's going to have some momentum now for sure.
And obviously, that's a lot of second place finishes.
Yeah.
I had to look it up.
When I read that, I'm like, there's no way.
I'm like, there's no way.
That one year.
Sheldon Creed will tell you had more.
You probably felt like nine.
No, no, it was, it was a lot.
But, uh, yeah, Chris Vibels, he is definitely.
put himself as a championship contender.
Yeah, Regan said it here last week.
He said, like, we asked like what the cutoff was for who you think could be the guys.
And I kind of cut it off at Briscoe, and I should have probably looked one more spot back.
Guy just had top five.
But he said, no, you got to be six because you got to include Bell.
And we just, we know that he's capable of this, right, Jamie, of just getting hot and going on an unbelievable run where.
I mean, he could win half these races.
I mean, he's good at Gateway.
He's good.
Yeah, I was looking at the schedule and I don't, I mean, maybe I would take him off Talladega, right?
Probably not known as the drafting guy, but there's not another track on there that you would say he can't win at.
And he is, he's quick everywhere and he's in one of the best cars right now.
And to me, I feel like he and Adam do such Adam does a great job of kind of alternating the strategy.
Almost every week it seems like they're different than everybody else and somehow they're able to make it work.
And it's maybe cost them a couple of wins, but for the most part, it seems like it always gains them positions.
And he, Bell doesn't ever really show emotion either.
And he seemed so excited about being able to win at Darlington.
So, again, very similar to Creed, like, you just don't want to give someone like that any fuel.
Yeah.
Adams, one of the best.
They were able to do similar to what we did.
They ran long because we pit, because we got stuck behind the 33, the guys around us all kind of reacted to us immediately and either came with us or came to next lap.
They were the ones that that run ran, I think, five or six extra laps,
and they were able to drive all the way back to win the stage.
And then, you know, all throughout the race,
I thought the 19 and the 20 were the two best cars.
And I'm not so sure if the 19 doesn't pick the right lane.
He chose the bottom on the last restart.
I think thinking, like, the guys in front of me have no tires,
I'll be able to blitz the bottom of three
and not get kind of stuck wooded up behind him.
The bottom, just for whatever reason,
and I'd seem like it really couldn't get going.
Like you would see the guy in the front row kind of slot in third, fourth, fifth on restart.
and I think if Chase had that back, he would do it differently because that's how the 20 got ahead of him and went on to win the race, get around the five and win the race.
But I thought the two of them had the best cars all night long, really.
And then all you got to do is he did have pit road issues.
You know, they had an issue one stop where they lost track position.
Luckily, for them, the race is so damn long.
You can kind of fight back from it.
But that's like to your point, Tommy, earlier, if they have clean races, they can win four to five races.
But they have to have clean races to do it.
Daniel Suarez is currently the easiest spire car to race around.
Spot on.
That's saying something.
I'm spot on.
We can start with the...
Why?
Because of McDowell?
Because the McDowell?
Did McDowell get into two people?
He did, right?
He wrecked Riley two weeks ago and put him out for a week.
He wrecked it.
He got into Zane, turned Zane around.
And I don't think...
I don't think that Michael's a dirty driver.
No.
But I don't think, you know, but he's not going to cut you a break.
And he's sometimes he can, you know, he, because of that, it's kind of similar we're talking about with John Hunter.
He's going to race the shit at you.
And maybe sometimes he kind of crossed the line and gets in the year.
It's happened to us before.
You know, I mean, he famously kind of right hooked Bubba in the fence at the All Star race a couple years ago.
Because I'm sure Bubba did something to him somewhere along the line.
But, you know, the thing.
Well, then you got old dipshit for the 19th week in a row, spinning people out.
Yeah.
We'll get to him in a minute.
fun. One thing about McDowell, not to defend him, but Michael spent his whole career kind of driving
junk and always having to get out of everybody's way. And he, because I talked to him about this last year,
he's like, I'm finally in like really good cars. Yeah. Very similar to that. And so I feel like he's like,
look, this is my time. And so I'm not defending him because you can't have all the incidents that
you did, but I think he's finally in a good car and he's just wanting to try to make the most of it.
Yeah. And the thing with Danny, like, like you said Jamie earlier, it was avoidable. It wasn't like
it was, you know, he just barely got clear
and then chopped his nose off and Michael was coming.
Like, Danny was clear by a car length, half a car length.
For two seconds. And Michael decided I'm going to run
in the back of him, you know? Like, if
that's Bubba, I see Danny coming. I'm telling him
you'll be ready for your crossover here.
You know, because you're going to be able to turn down
that hill, like the turn down lane in three and four
and just go back by him or at least race
him into one and see if you can go back by him.
But, yeah, I mean, in the moment,
you know, you know that's the point leader. Like,
he doesn't, he's not obligated
at all. I don't think he is to cut Danny a break.
whoever it is, whoever the point leader is, whether it's Danny or not.
But, I mean, to just run on the back of him, I don't think that he intended what happened.
You know, obviously, he's just going to, he's trying to maybe just, you know, I didn't appreciate you clear on me like that and run on the back of him.
But then the second this happens, I'm sure he regrets, like now he just knocked Danny out of the race, essentially, or at least damage his car enough.
But he was the least of Spires trouble the other night, I think.
Like, I don't even, I don't know where to go with this anymore, Tommy.
I mean...
I think we've said all that there is to say.
I mean, I don't...
Well, Jamie, where are you at with this clown?
Because I don't know.
I can't decide if I just want to unload or just laugh it off.
Because he wants attention.
And you know what?
I heard Danny's show yesterday where he's like,
I'm not giving him the clip he wants.
I'm going to give him the clip he wants because he's doing dumb shit
and I'm going to call him out on it.
But where do you sit with it?
I have thought about this a lot because I knew we were going to talk about it today.
And when I think about what it does,
takes to be a great driver. There's a lot of things, but the three that come to my mind,
one is you have to have speed. And if we think about Carson, he has tremendous speed. It doesn't
matter what kind of car he gets in. He's very fast. I would put Blaney, Larson in those same categories.
Like whatever you put them in, they seem to have speed. The second thing is you have to have
a racecraft. And when you talk about guys that can pass Blaney and Larson, those two guys,
they seem to figure out a way to pass. And when I think about Hosevar, he's a lot of
he's pretty creative.
Like he does some stuff
and I'm like, man, that was brave,
but he can get past cars as well
and he can also defend well.
So I think he has really good racecraft.
But the last thing that you have to have
is you have to have some racing IQ.
And when you look at Carson,
he's in the bottom handful
of racing IQ guys in the field.
He just continues to make poor decisions.
And I'm a little reserved to be critical of him
because I feel like social media-wise, people just, they just, because he has a lot of fans,
and I think that's great. But what I've learned on social media is that he has brought a lot of
new fans into the sport. There's no doubt. And that's, that's so great. But those people don't
really understand racing as well as, as everybody at this table or as the garage in general.
And a lot of our criticism of Carson is because, and you're a good example, Tommy,
because you have two kids that are racing, you would sit them down if they were doing what he was doing the same way I would sit my son down. And even if you take Carson, if you were to go back 12 or 15 years to when he was growing up racing, no one aspires to be what Carson is right now. No one wants to grow. The ultimate gift you can have in racing is to have the respect of your peers and the people around you. And he doesn't have that. And people are critical like, well, who cares? He's fun. And that's fine.
But we see this from a different side.
I would want my kid, I mean, my ultimate goal for my son is to have the respect of everyone and be like,
guy, he's a good driver, he's smart, he can pass, he's fast, he's got all these things.
And I feel like with Carson, it's almost like he has bought into this, how do I sell t-shirts?
And that's become more important versus the respect of the people that are around you.
And I think it's a terrible path to go down.
But that's the path that he has chosen to go down.
And it's just, it's hard to watch.
It's, for me, it's such a mindset thing of, I mean, I love it because first of all, he's gone from fifth in the points to wherever he is now, 12th or 13th.
So as a guy that has to race against him, great.
I hope you keep shooting yourself in the foot because that makes you easy to beat.
But for me, it's funny to me because they put out that stupid social post the other day, which was just ammunition for every other team in the sport where it's a picture of him with every derogatory thing, iPad kid, you know, whatever.
certain, you know, every
derogatory thing somebody said about him
and it's like they're celebrating it.
And then he gets out of the car
there at night and he's talking about,
well, I just do it for clicks.
I just do it for clicks.
So now the first thing you're thinking about
in your interview,
when you just got done racing
the Southern 500 is what we said on this podcast
or what somebody else said about you
somewhere else on a different show.
Like, that shouldn't be your fucking mindset.
And then the problem that I really have,
my biggest problem is that he,
I think he could be one of the best drivers in our sport.
We've been saying it all year.
It's my biggest issue with it
because I think if he just fucking focused
on driving the race car to the best of its ability, he could be as great as he wants to be.
But instead, he's leading into this fucking fake, phony gimmick that is just driving me insane.
Like you said the other night, Tommy, the, I don't know, he spun with that stupid fucking smile on his face is what pissed me off more than anything.
I don't care that you get into somebody and spin him out.
What is so hard about getting out of the car and going, eh, you know what?
I fucked up.
I made a mistake.
Like, you know, though, you can't say that.
You can say that.
You can say you made a mistake.
You can't say, yeah, I went in there and wreck the guy.
I don't think he meant to do it on purpose.
But like the phony smile and the gimmick, you're just playing a fucking game.
Congratulations.
I saw last night you sold $200,000 T-shirts.
That doesn't matter.
Like, to me, if you're worried about...
I don't buy that.
I don't buy that at all.
I think that's a gimmick as well.
He might be selling a lot of T-shirts, and I don't doubt that.
And if he did, good for him, but I think that that's just fueling the fire.
There's no way.
That's my biggest problem is the...
I'm very good, very good friends with a lot of people that are surrounding him.
And it's just to me, it's like you just want to shake them.
Like, what are you doing?
Do you want to be a great race car driver or do you want to be somebody?
Because I think in the beginning, like the beginning of the year before even the Talladego win,
I think I said on here, like he could legitimately challenge Chase Elliott as most popular
the driver.
We did say that.
Because it was genuine then, it felt like it was, you know, my love of the sport.
I love the sport.
You know, and it was like you can just see he's buying the Dale truck.
He's doing fun stuff at the racetrack.
And then it became the nonsense.
And I feel like the new fans are probably.
the ones that kind of still support him, but I see a big turn in, like, my comments, like,
responses to my post or whatever on social media of the people that are getting tired of it,
because they realize it's not fucking genuine. Like the other night with that stupid, you know,
big, I don't know, I don't know, he spun out. Like, the whole, the whole, I don't know,
that has to stop. Because we had him on Turner's pre-race show. I don't remember who he had been
into, but, you know, there's five of us on the stage and we all ask him two or three questions,
and he literally answered every question with, I don't know. Like, he would leave
with that and then kind of laugh. And so I was like, well, maybe that's a nervous tick. Maybe that's
like his, I'm not sure what to say. And so, so I don't know, but that sticks with every interview.
He doesn't really ever give an answer or a reason. And I'm, I'm with you. I, if it's, like,
I think he, you know, going to the stands and sitting, I think that is genuine. I think he's a
massive race fan. I think he likes it. I feel like he enjoys the, the fans of being around. I think
that's super cool. I love it. I, I think it's awesome. But I don't, I don't, I don't buy.
all of it. I just, and then, I mean, and then
I don't, again, Brad afterwards
says he's going to do something, you know, his days coming
whatever. This is the worst thing you can say. Don't say it, first
of all. And every time somebody says it, they never do
anything. Brad's not going to fucking do anything, I don't think.
But even the, how crazy is the Tommy
to the one guy you go out
and dump and then kind of laugh it off and joke about
it afterwards, like, I don't know, he spun out,
is the guy that, not in the chase.
And all, by the way, he owns two cars that are in the
fucking chase. So, like, he could be the worst
guy to go out and do this, too. And you still
like, play the game of not even
attempting to say, my bad, I fucked up.
Like, did you want to talk to Brad?
No, I don't know.
I don't need to talk to him.
Like, holy shit, I was, and I don't care about the racetrack.
I know, it pisses me off.
You can get another pullup on your vocal court.
I talked to Tyler Green about this yesterday.
And I said to him, I said, Tyler, I don't care that he dumps any.
I mean, if he goes out there and dumps a guy a week, couldn't care less.
Like, if you want to be that guy, be that guy.
But then, like, you want to compare him to Earnhardt?
Earnhardt got out of the car and would say,
Yeah, fuck, I ran on the back of that guy.
You know, I was rattling on his cage, whatever.
He didn't go, oh, I don't know.
You know, like.
He doesn't even, he's not even close to that.
I know that.
I hate when people try to put him alongside.
It's now not even close to a comparison.
Well, and I've seen people try to compare it to like Kyle Bush's like villain persona,
but you can't even compare it to that either because, again,
what Kyle Bush was incredibly well respected by everybody around him.
And the way that he would go about those.
He won a lot, too.
And he won a lot and he could back it up.
And even just still in his little interviews
or the Kyle Bush bits that we all love to go back and watch,
like you never lost respect for him
through any of those comments or those sound bites or bits
that we still watch to this day.
It's not the same.
Let's just use Joey Lugano as an example here.
I mean, he was pretty rough for a while, right?
What's the one thing that kind of tamed him down?
I assume one of the 12 fights he was in.
What about Kenseth and Martin's over?
Getting your ass beat.
Since then, since that, Kenseth doing that to him,
I don't remember any real, like, issues of on track.
Yeah, does he race hard?
Yeah, but he still gives you enough space to race, right?
I mean, I just, I don't, are the drivers afraid of giving it to him
and the fans not liking him?
Is that where he's at?
Is that his focus right now of the issue?
I don't know, but again, he's one of the best race car drivers out there, right?
Use that energy and ability to be a race car driver, not a internet sensation.
Yeah.
Or just go be an internet sensation if you want to be one.
And it doesn't even drive me crazy.
He's going to enjoy the fact that I'm this mad about it.
You know what I mean?
Like, ha, look, I got him again.
While I'm like, meanwhile, you're the one, you're the one plummeting in the standings.
And I'm, like, if you're just happy pissing me off every week, good.
And if this is the attention you want, good, you got it.
Because if you're going to do so, every, I tell, I told this to Gregson a couple years ago or a handful of years ago.
And he said, why do you keep talking about me on the show?
Because you keep doing dumb shit.
As long as people do dumb shit, we're going to talk about this show.
I don't know if people realize, the fans realize, but we have been right on everything so far.
Every single thing.
I mean, every single thing we have talked about at the end of the day, are we right?
Yeah, of course.
Okay.
I'm not, I'm not mad.
Like I'm not mad at him at all because I don't have a dog in the fight eye
That was just so funny how we're over here
These two are like veins pop up and get out of their next time
James James is
What was the last time you were mad?
I'm embarrassed for him
I mean honestly like I just
I just gonna revert back to like when he was a kid
There's no way this is who
There's no kid out there that wants to be a professional
race car driver that aspires to be that
You know there's he didn't he didn't aspire to be what he's turned into
and I just feel like he's wasting this crazy ability.
That's where my anger comes from.
My anger isn't because he spun Brad out or he did a stupid interview.
My anger is he's wasting how talented he is playing a fucking game.
You know, it's a game to him.
And it's, I feel like if he just applied himself and did everything right.
I mean, listen, you, I mean, and I heard Denny yesterday talking about, you know,
there's no adults in the building over there.
I mean, I know for a fact they have fined him in-house for dumb shitty does.
I think it's downplayed of the, I think they do care.
Yeah, absolutely.
There's no, there's no way that they don't.
I think it's a little bit uncontrollable.
And when he has some success, it's a little harder to control.
I just don't, yeah, I just don't think he cares.
You know what I mean?
At the end of the day, he just, he just doesn't care.
Yeah.
I also think for every person around him that is like that that helps, there's also one person
countering that person that enables him.
Like there's no.
Listen, there's people he's making money for it.
Yeah.
And this gimmick is making them more money right now than what he has to worry about long term.
And listen, if that's the road you want to go down.
You've got 35 guys that are like focused and serious.
And then you've got the one like Joker.
I mean, this is got to be, you know.
He didn't do anything.
I don't remember anything that Daytona.
But I mean, this is now.
He almost won Daytona.
Yeah.
I mean, when you look at it.
But now this is now going to be, if you take Dayton out, it's four weeks in a row that he's had a hand in a caution.
you know, or created a caution where either he stopped on a racetrack after he blew his motor up at Richmond,
accidentally.
But, you know, it's just, it's a Twitch dream to him.
And if that's what he wants to go, I just did.
I'm okay.
Can I get another poll up on your vocal cord?
I'm okay.
Everybody, let's just water.
Zin.
Let's start over.
Let's start over.
Okay.
Next topic.
Jordan Bianchi tweeted that Corey Day said William Swalich threatened to wreck him at some point
during the chase.
Let me ask you this.
Can I ask you a question?
Hot comp, breathe.
127.
I sent you a picture the other day.
You did, you did.
I,
first of all, this is two guys that usually
never think they're wrong, but I didn't
really see
anything that Day did.
Race is hard,
got into them a little bit in the middle of one and two,
you know, door banged a little bit
there, then got in them a little bit off of two.
But I almost didn't...
It goes deeper than this, though.
Yeah.
It's not just what happened to Charlie.
But the end of the
end of the day,
the 18 wrecked himself.
Can I tell you the irony at all this?
Is that we interview
these guys at the beginning of the year, and we just
interviewed Corey last Wednesday for Chase
Media Day. And it's the only two guys
in the O'Reilly series that
both said that they're not
friends with anyone in the series. They're
like I don't bring my friends.
I bring my friends to the racetrack.
And I,
you know who else says they don't have friends?
Carson Hosevar.
Same thing.
Yeah.
He said it on Dale Scha.
He says he's our friends of anyone too.
So when I see them get together, I'm like,
oh, obviously they're not friends.
They're not friends with anybody at their racetrack.
But I would agree with what you said.
I, you know,
Corey's had his,
he's made his mistakes.
There's no doubt.
And Rick has,
has definitely sat him down.
And I feel like it's been significantly better since Cota
when that all happened.
in this case, I mean, people get hip checked in turn two at Darlington about every third lap.
It just, that's what happens when you pass there.
But definitely the 18 just decided to clear himself.
I don't know if he was going to try to like door him or what, but he just wrecked himself on the backstretch.
Yeah.
And listen, if you, I don't, I don't begrudge anybody that thinks, well, me, this guy did me wrong.
I'm going to get him back.
But at the end of the day, Dave finished second and Swalach finished 30th, I think.
So, and he was also in another wreck, but he was back there.
He was going to be stuck back there for a while because of the damage from this wreck.
But, you know, it just, I don't know.
The decision making on the 18 car.
I have to think William goes back and watches the race and the replay and sees what we saw and is like,
I don't think so.
You don't?
No.
Okay.
No, I don't think so.
I don't think he cares.
I think he's the closest to Kos and Hart.
HOSOVR honor.
There is, to be honest with you.
I just...
Could you say their names back to back?
Solowich and Hosevar.
Solich.
It's Long Island.
Yeah.
I just, man, again, it's like every week you're hearing his name where there's trouble.
It's like if the, if he had clean races, it's plus six or seven spots most of the time, right?
And it's just like,
it's tough to not, I mean.
Corey,
Corey Day has no experience, right?
He's learning on the fly right now, right?
Where William has gone through all the progressions of doing what needs to be done.
And it's like, God, again, it's like he needs somebody to help him.
You can't, in my opinion, and this is just.
my opinion, you can't miss
the chase two years
in a row in a Gibbs car in that series.
And he probably should have made it.
He probably would have been close to making it if he doesn't get
caught up in somebody else's mess. Had none to do it.
Yeah, but that's one time. But that's one race.
You're in that position because of the body of work
for the rest of the year. And it's just
you know. He's got fast cars. He's capable
of running in a top six, seven, or eight,
every single race. But it's just like,
oh, let's go to the ETA. Oh, he runs. You know, he's just
just like has us like the, like, the
the temper or whatever.
It's just, man, calm down.
You're a good race quarter.
He's proven he's a good race driver.
Right?
But it's just like you're missing the rest of the pieces, man,
to be one of the best.
It's weird because he's at Gibbs.
You would think that Eric would have a little bit of hand.
I mean, Eric's sharp guy,
and I would think a great, great voice to lean on.
And he's at the track of most weekends.
I don't know.
It's not helping him.
Yeah.
In that scenario, though, I mean, I don't,
if he goes back in Rex Day
again for what happened on Saturday
he's going to look like an even bigger idiot
in my opinion.
All right, the metric is used once again
for qualifying after weather affects
every part of the Cup Series weekend.
Spot on spot off, Jamie?
Or were you about to say so?
I was going to ask Tommy.
You know, we've talked about
you don't like the metric.
You know, it's not, you don't want to be penalized
this week for last week.
If this scenario were to play out
without the metric, if we used,
If we went off practice speeds, like you have suggested, we should for that weekend,
and we don't practice and qualify point standings?
Yeah.
Absolutely.
I mean, it was really bad this week because the chase started.
Right.
And all of a sudden, you need the stage points.
And I don't, who started, there was a few of those guys that started.
Yeah, Bush or host of R.
I'm like, well, that's not fair to me that you're all of a sudden penalized to start your championship run because of what happened it.
And it wasn't even that it happened at like, Martin's not having a freaking Daytona.
I mean, like, it's almost like, yeah, it's almost like the speedway shouldn't even count towards the metric.
But again, it's, it's going to, it's not going to allow them to catch up for another two, three races.
I mean, it's, like, it's, I don't, again.
The points are the, I don't know if the teams don't like that.
I always thought that was the most fair way.
It sucked if you're 20th and points, but don't be 20th points.
Yeah, I mean, you had a whole season to fix that.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, the thing that I didn't understand was, and you deserve to be there.
Yeah, right.
It's just the reality of it.
Exactly.
What I didn't understand was.
you're giving, I didn't, I understood it, but you're giving the, you're giving the chase guys
an advantage for qualifying. You've now moved them to the last 16 cars every week for the rest
of the season for qualifying because you recognize that it's not fair if we go out fifth from last
and Busher went out second, that's not fair. But now that we rained out, it's fair to put
him back in 38. But that metric's gone. Yeah, well, the metric's still there.
Only for 20 of them. But no, it's no, it's because they went to the back. 16 and first.
stuff. Yeah, but not for the race.
You know, so I'm saying, like, you're giving us,
you're giving us an advantage for qualifying because you're saying
it's not fair that we're going to send you out early
and qualifying, but then when it comes
to the lineup, it's
now it's fair to put you back to 36 and live
to wrestle them up there in the top 10. It needs to go
points if it rains out.
And off practice speed, if not.
And I think Jamie will agree to this.
Practice is boring for you guys up there.
Right? Practice is tough. I mean, these guys,
it doesn't matter.
They're more running,
We're more running practice to get fuel out of our cars for qualifying anyway.
So let's just make a mock-up run at the end of qualifying, use a set of our tires.
If we want to, if we're sitting sixth or seventh in practice.
You don't have to.
Let it become a...
You are on with the six-sevenths today.
I'm sorry.
No, I've been just sitting over here.
Let it become a conversation piece and give these guys...
It is good for practice.
It is really...
ability to conquer that weekend instead of paying a price for the weekend.
What really sucks is if you pay the penalty because of the weekend before you had a bad race,
and then not everyone is Denny Hamlin in every track is their best track.
There are some track guys that, like, they live for three or four races a year,
and if you get penalized heading into that one, it's just a total kick in the house.
Yeah.
Yeah.
NASCAR introduces the swear jar for one fan to win.
money based on how much drivers curse over the radio.
This is giving an attempt to put some,
everyone's screaming, we need personality, we need personality.
Does that put that personality is cursing?
No, I'm not saying that it is.
I'm saying that's what this kind of was making me think of as like an attempt to maybe.
So Tommy the deal is they're putting $5 in a jar every time a driver curses.
And then I think the fans have to guess the amount of money.
ago where we're yelling at all these drivers
with sponsors in corporate world that we can't
do that now we're paying fan
next subject let's let's
can we think is can we think of something better
please the thing is like I don't understand
I don't know I ain't talk about I don't talk about I don't get a
water go get a water get me one like it I think it's funny
yeah I think it's great I like it I just don't think
I'd be in there going shit fuck fuck fuck fuck shit
now that's what I said the drivers have to just cost NASCAR money
you should be like you're fucking clear it's not me I can't it's just the drivers
If it was me, I would help.
If Kurt Bush was still here,
you would just take whatever it was and times two.
Well, it's like, I said to Megan the other night,
I said, you know, at the end of the day, it's $5.
And then you start doing the math and you're like,
so Bubba, like, Bubba did not curse one time,
maybe one time in the whole race Saturday night.
And he's usually one of the ones that usually he's pretty good at it.
But then you had like, you talk about playing.
So I said, if you imagine like, even if it's five curse words a driver
for the entire race, it's like two grand for the,
chase.
So is it,
is it throughout the chase?
It's every race.
It's only one time you can win it.
It's not every race.
At the end of the chase.
Whoever is cumulatively swears the most.
But it's like,
I mean,
I think NASCAR's also done a really good job.
What's the next?
Reaction theater.
Fan engaging stuff?
Well, they've done some marketing stuff recently.
Yeah.
And it's, it's been totally like left field
from where they've been.
And this is one of those.
You put your fingers in there for you.
Look.
I mean, tell them where that finger's been.
Nasty.
That hair is not going to hurt you, I can tell you.
It wasn't a hair.
I can't tell what it is, is the problem.
It's shit from you drink yesterday.
All right.
It's time for reaction theater where fans can call in and voice their opinions from this weekend's race.
I'm interested to see what they've had to say this weekend.
And I feel like it was either really exciting for some or pretty lacklustre for others.
Yeah, I wanted to say it was one of the first time somebody called in about me.
I can't play it, though, because the amount of swear words and names and slurs, honestly.
that were said about me.
Jesus, what you do?
Oh, you got hate mail.
Yeah, they were like,
the guy who picks this sucks,
he said words that we can't say over the radio.
So I just wanted to let that guy know
that I heard you.
And I appreciate you.
I appreciate your listening, buddh.
Anyway, speaking of people talking about us.
Here's one about Freddie.
Oh, good.
Freddie, you fat fuck.
It's funny you talk about Dale and Denny
butchering the English language
when you can't even say act.
It's ass.
It's ass.
It's a ass.
Dumb fuck.
Ask me if I give a fuck what you think
Next
Tommy I'm over here at Carteret County
Why are you hiding in the fucking trailer
I was running everybody else is working you lazy bitch
Everybody else is working
I know what your pick crew looks like
That guy needs to hang out
I've watched Tommy
Tommy works his ass off every weekend
He was too
He was probably having a heat stroke
He was a break
His whole pick crew's 85
I have an older, so he has to go out there and work.
We're loud enough spot in practice, and he's like, can you hear me?
Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Can you hear me? And I'm like, who's he yelling?
He's like, can you hear me? On the radio? And he's like, can you hear me?
And I'm like, and he said, Forrest is 137 years old. I said, he can't hear you ever.
So like, the fact that he's even wearing a radio is impressive at this point.
Yeah, I had Woody and Forrest this week.
Woody, truck driver away. So the average age actually came down with Woody.
He's 70.
65 and 84.
So average was set whatever that is.
72.
And half the time, at Carterette,
they were in the trailer because they had heat stroke.
Both of them.
So I was by my shelf.
I had a couple of moments.
You did when you stood up that one time.
I was like, oh, boy, I'm going to pass out.
And now begins the host of our hour of people calling it about him.
So buckle up, get the popcorn.
And, yeah, we'll see how this goes.
I can't watch the ball game without seeing a fucking host.
of our hat. I can't watch
the race without him wrecking my
fucking driver. Carson,
I like my steaks. Medium
well and I love
red wine because if you're going to
fuck me, you might as well feed me, you
motherfucker!
Medium well steak is a choice.
I got a feeling that guy was a host of our
fan at one point. Now he's trending
the other way. I think his girlfriend was at the baseball
game. Is that what the guy's referencing there?
No, there really was a guy
I saw this weekend on social. There
was they, one of the sports network
zoomed in on somebody at the Tennessee game
and he had a 77 hat on?
It's sad that the state of NASCAR
at the moment is we have a raggedy,
stank-ass bitch like Carson Hosevar
that has no problem finding a ride,
but you got Josh Barry struggling to find one.
I'm at a loss for words.
I'd rather shit my hand and clap.
A round of applause than that motherfucker.
He'll be happy after listening to this show.
I love, that's a lot.
That's shit in your hands in cloud.
That's a good one.
Barry families.
What do you call him a raggedy ass bitch?
Put that on a t-shirt.
These are real.
These are real.
These are real fans, yeah.
There's hundreds of them.
Really?
Yeah, we, yeah.
There was a 179.
Oh, God.
He has to listen to them all.
I probably listen to a hundred and twenty of them this week.
Because I can read the transcripts, so I weed a bunch out.
Time for Brad Tesalowski to take that fucking cane out of storage and shove it up.
So far up Carson Holzerbar's ass that it comes out of his big fucking mouth.
Call of the year.
Call of the year.
Oh, my God.
The cane.
Oh, yeah.
That was a collapsible cane at that.
It was the dumbest freaking thing I've ever seen in my life.
Jesus, James.
Cool guy in a broken leg.
Ski accident.
Parking lot.
Hey, somebody was going skiing.
Poor Michael McDowell.
He's out there doing his best driving with a bad case of Hose of Ibis.
Because he's just running in everything like a dart without feathers.
You think it's contagious?
Maybe that's the problem.
All right.
Last one.
It's for Jamie.
Uh-oh.
Yeah, this is for Jamie.
I just curious about his cameo in Talladega Nights and what that was like.
Luzin's never fun.
Here's the spirits.
It's on sale, God of the Target.
All right.
Love you guys.
That was my scene.
Oh.
Yeah, that was my scene with Wolfarrow.
That was fun.
I still have,
honestly, I've never watched all Teledega nights.
I've never watched that movie from start to the end.
I've seen pieces of it throughout.
It was a really cool experience.
Movie night at the Baldwin House tonight.
I still get like, I don't know,
30 bucks a month from that show.
Nice.
And every time I get it, I wonder how much money,
Will Ferrell is on that.
And Tom Cruise gets, I'm like, man, they just get checked showing up all day long.
No, but I'm just saying like the residuals from it.
Yeah.
I would, I'd say this.
And because I was a Days of Thunder guy, that was, that's my time.
I've watched that movie hundreds of times.
I tried to watch it with Carter when he was like 12 and I forgot about the trucks that the, the,
when they get pulled over in the truck and the, it gets a little wild.
This is awkward.
Yeah.
I'm like, Carter, go get me something to drink.
Yeah.
But I would, I would love to be in.
Days of Thunder 2.
I think that would just be...
Yeah, it would be spectacular.
The ABC needs to be in Days of Thunder 2.
Yeah.
Us announcing?
Yeah.
So, yeah.
Okay.
All right.
To leave an audio message 24-7,
you can call our number at 704, 802-9-5772.
And if you find yourself sick with a case of the host ofitis,
I would contact your local urgent care.
Speaking of being in a day of thunder 2,
something cool is really coming out this week, I believe,
or into this weekend and next week that we got to be a part of.
And Jamie, you did too, as well.
racing game. Oh, we're at the video game. The game comes out. I know the gold
edition comes out on the 15th and the standard edition comes out on the 18th. DBC's in the game.
I'm one of the spotters in the game this year in Jamie. That's cool. I know you're involved.
I mean, for me, as a kid growing up, playing a lot of racing video games, it's one of the
coolest things to get to be involved in the game. How about, how was, I mean, how was your
experience of those guys? It was fun. How did you, where did you do your, like, here? So, so, so we did,
we did our stuff. We recorded our stuff. His was the best part about the whole thing for me.
So I have done other games in the past where I had to sit in the room and read a script for hours and hours and hours.
And it's just say clear 37 times.
I know what you're going to say.
So we did our part for the show for the podcast.
And then afterwards they said, do you want to be a spotter?
I said, yeah, absolutely.
And they said, just let me know when I got to come record.
And they said, no, we'll do it with AI.
And I was like, well, that's terrifying.
So they did all of my spotter portion of it with just AI from my voice off the podcast.
So I don't know how if yours was similar.
Well, Tart and I did it at NASCAR Productions because we have a, like, on-camera couple pieces with some digital backdrops behind us.
And so we had to read some teleprompters for that.
But the rest of it, they were like, it's all going to be AI done.
I'm like, this is great.
I mean, it took an hour to do.
And, yeah, I thought it'd be fun.
Like, I think about, yeah, I mean, it's really cool to get to be a part of something like that.
And it's, I mean, the last game was good.
This one seems like it sounds everybody I've seen says it's going to be a lot better.
They've got some cool features.
My brother's going to shit when he's playing that game and he all of a sudden
hears my voice telling him in career mode.
What did you,
what was your role?
We just kind of did sentences basically that I guess we'll go within career mode as if you do
something good or bad.
Like we're talking about you on the podcast on Monday sort of thing.
Yeah, that's cool.
It's going to be,
it's a lot of fun.
And then those guys are great.
Matt Lewis and that crew over there are just so much fun to work with.
I've done some other stuff with Matt outside.
You know, at San Diego,
we went and hung out on the carrier ship there.
dot Kyle's doing burnouts and stuff.
So it's a lot of fun to be part of.
I'm looking forward to it coming out.
And it's going to be.
And the first thing you can do when you get in there is I don't exactly know what the
menu looks like, but go in and figure out how you switch the spotter from T.J.
majors to myself and your gameplay experience will be much more enjoyable, I promise you.
TJ's in it again.
TJ Josh Williams and myself, I know for sure.
Might be a couple other guys in there, but the three of us for sure are your options.
So if you don't want to like, if you don't like me, I wouldn't, I wouldn't set that one up.
Time to move on to AskDBC, where we ask the questions you've all been wanting the answers to.
And I actually, I saw this one and some people kind of talking about this on social over the weekend as Hosevar was kind of the topic of conversation.
So I'm interested here what you guys think, especially after what we've been talking about today.
From Dakota, if Hosevar got up in front of the driver's meeting and apologized like Ernie Irvin, would it make a difference or is it too late?
I don't think anybody would believe them.
Well, I say it has to be sincere.
Yeah.
And I've seen the video, I wasn't in racing when Ernie did that.
But it was very sincere and kind of a somber moment when he got up in front of everybody and said what he had to say.
And I just, there's zero chance that I think you're going to see that from Carson.
Yeah, I mean, if he did it right now, if he got up there this week at Gateway and said,
hey, guys, I'm really sorry.
You know, I just won't happen again.
I'm going to be on my best behavior.
That got you.
That's what you say.
10% of all of my shirts.
The cameras would pull.
would come out of the corners.
I just, you know, nobody, at this point, nobody would believe him.
He'd have to show us something on the racetrack first for us to take him seriously.
Like, I just don't take him seriously.
Like, that's, and that's, I don't know if that's a, I don't know.
Like, it's just to me.
That's a common theme.
I don't, I don't take him seriously.
On the racetrack, off the racetrack, it just looks, it's everything about him seems phony
to me.
And I think that if he got up there, it would sound like a phony apology if I had to guess.
So, I mean, Tommy, were you, where were you at?
Were you around in there?
Right before, or a little bit early, but I,
I remember it.
Was it Talladega?
He did that, yeah.
Yeah.
I think it was Taladao,
or Charlotte.
One of those.
But yeah, I mean,
he's not Ernie Irvin.
No.
Okay, so let's move on.
Tommy's over it.
Shit Show Hall of Fame.
Big thanks to Flo for providing the clips that we can watch and react to,
and you can save 15% by signing up with our link,
flowsports.
Dot link slash door bumper clear.
Would this guy just climb the backstretched wall and hit a fence pole or something?
It's Batman.
It's fucking Batman.
Halloween Batman car.
You would
think he could get through this wall a little better.
It looks like a ramp right there.
Yeah, that's like a ramp right there.
Oh, my lord.
That's not good.
That is not good news.
I can't confirm.
That's what we call it yard sale.
I mean, I assume.
Look at that ramp right there.
Got him.
It never stood a chance.
I'm assuming that's just from the race, right?
I mean, they're piling up because it's the, that was the Hillbilly 100, but it was early
in the week.
You notice how most people are coming off the corner way lower than he is.
Motor Speedway.
I would assume it was in West Virginia.
there. Farmer City
had a wild
situation in the
Mars late model race. Hudson Dick.
Oh, boy. Oh, oh. Oh.
You hardly see them.
Flip. Like that, yeah.
Yeah, that's back to back.
Couple barrel rolls for a little...
Oh, just got that little no point of a nose
underneath and lifting them right on.
It's like a shovel. Yeah. That's a heat race.
Yeah. That was a heat race? Yeah, it's only...
Oh, he's on fire.
That must be a big trophy for... It must be a transfer.
respond or something.
I had to chuckle out the caption.
You know, Hudson Dick goes for a wild ride.
It's pretty funny.
Poor guy.
Now you get it.
Not only flips, he gets his name.
This one, I've seen some controversy over this one.
This was Trey Starks and Aaron Wright.
So I think it was the, so Trey got mad.
He went over and yelled that Aaron.
Trey's the one that flipped a few of them.
Kind of cleared himself, it looks like to you.
Yeah, it looked to me like he just changed a bunch of lanes on the back straightaway and
there was somebody outside of him.
Like, yeah.
Yeah, I mean.
That wasn't the 87.
He just mad at him.
And even if you wanted him to hit the break, there's no time.
I mean, no time.
Right.
So he has a bit of a reputation, I would say, in that series.
So like that wouldn't, I mean, look like me, that guy just changed.
I don't know enough about dirt raising.
That was a big hit.
That was, yeah, that was not ideal.
It was gnarly.
This was, the next one was my favorite one on the weekend.
And I don't know who screwed this up or what exactly happened.
They have, have you watched, do you watch much high limit stuff, Jamie?
Oh my God.
This spun for four minutes.
The redrawling?
How long did he talk?
TLP, I mean, he talks enough as it is.
If they could have like ZMAX as a sponsor or something for that,
like, oh, we put one drop right there and gave her a spin.
I was literally about to say they must have just lubricated the thing.
When Peck spun that thing, it went on forever.
I had permission from the injured party to share this.
They actually requested that I did, to be honest.
So long story short, we had one of our team members get hit in their,
lower genitalia with a air chuck.
And so I went to the hospital to check on this person
because the team had to continue into the race day
and his family's down here.
So I go to check on him myself and the spotter from the team.
And he just got back from ultrasound
and he's all looped up that we got there.
They're like, he's on some good drugs.
He'll be back soon.
But he's comfortable.
Looped.
Looped.
Looped.
Like loopy.
Loopie.
Sorry.
He's loopy.
And.
And so he gets back and he rolls in the room and he's like, what are you guys doing here?
We're like, oh, we came to check on you, blah, blah, blah.
How you doing?
He's recapping the instance and everything.
And he's like, do you want to see him?
And we're like, no, no, we're good.
We're good.
Weeps the blanket down.
Just shows it to us in the hospital, all of it.
And we're like, no, thank you.
And so I'm sitting there and I'm like, my God.
Like, I'm just sitting there thinking like the places that this job has led me.
And I just.
You sure?
So.
It was like an unsolicited dick pick, but in real life.
But he's fine.
I'm happy to report.
He's fine.
Everything's intact.
Nothing had to get surgically done or removed.
And he made it back to the racetrack.
He was hell bent on getting back to the race track.
We went and picked him up after the pro race started.
I sent Rochelle from the merchandise trailer.
He texts me.
He's like, hey, they're discharging me.
I'm like, well, the pro race just went green.
But let me see if I can get somebody to come get you.
So then Rochelle went and got him.
But yeah, no, he's going to be all right.
But shout out DJ, your family jewels.
They're still intact.
I don't know if anybody can see
Jamie's piece of paper.
I wish I would have
He's making a list.
I wish I would have.
There's more.
What else was there?
What else did we say?
This is going to be Jamie's shit show, is this?
That's all the words he doesn't.
No, I was just thinking I'm learning.
What else did you say, though?
There was something else earlier.
Listen to your daughter a little bit.
No, she's definitely
said hip.
She said hip.
She said hip.
I said whip earlier.
I knew whip.
I got that one.
There was something else
in the middle of that there.
Vibe was one.
Vibe.
Oh, am I tripping?
Tripping, tripping.
I know that.
That one I've heard of.
Tripping.
Tripping and vibe, I got it.
He's going to walk in the house with his daughter today.
He's going to go over all these words.
I've tried to work those words that she says, glazed.
Glazed.
I've worked that in, glazing.
Gaslighting.
We've been gas lighting.
Speaking of gas lighting, there was some gas lighting going on in the Nine Radio the other night.
I don't know if you caught any of this.
So Chase comes down
Pit Road
The yellow for the rain
And he
You don't think there was more radio
Before that though
There wasn't I watched
I went back
I only saw a clip on Twitter
Yeah no
So I watched for
I watched before the rain delay
Through the rain delay
After the rain delay
That was it
Like the couple laps before we came
That pit road
The entire time we sat on pit road
And I think Kelly Crandall
shared it
And there is a chance
that maybe something didn't get picked up
because there was a moment
while he's coming up at pit road
that you hear like some
you know gargling over
but they weren't talking
there was nobody talking
you just heard
maybe somebody keyed up
but not quite
comes into pits
he tried to take off
after they do the right sides
stops
they stop them
they do the left sides
he leaves
and he's like
I thought we were doing too
nobody said four
and now it's like
I said four ten times
and I'm like
the audio I'm listening to
you never said it
he didn't say two
either. He didn't say you're clear by two. A couple times.
He said two in, get left, which means, I know what he meant. That means you can get,
you got two stalls on entry, so you can turn in early, so you're on the left, and you can
kind of get yourself pointed out. But it also, if you're doing two tires, sometimes, you say
get left because you don't have to worry about jacking the left side of the car up. So there
could be some miscommunication there, but then what he said, like, I said four tires ten times,
I'm like, I don't, I didn't hear that. I don't know, maybe. It made me think there was more
I would imagine that they would have replayed it if he did so.
But I don't think they could find it.
Yeah, there was.
But yeah.
If you find a shit show out in the wild,
Dorgia hitting the nuts, tag us and send it our way on social so we can laugh with you.
DBC picks.
I'm still whipping y'all's ass.
I won.
Shout out, Tyler Reddick.
I knew I saved you till the end for that.
Oh, wait.
It just reset.
Didn't Eric pick for you last week?
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good pick.
I texted him from the dentist.
I go first.
I assume looking at my 23rd place finished, thanks to Carson Hosevar.
Oh, that's why you're so mad.
That's why I was so mad, apparently.
I didn't realize why I was subliminally pissed off because he spun my DBC pick out.
I will take Ryan Blaney.
I will take his teammate, Joey Lugano.
I'll go with last year's winner, Hamlin.
I'm going to take Josh Barry.
Damn.
Because I was going to pick Danny Hamlin.
You were?
I was going to take Joey Lagano.
Yeah.
I didn't really want to burn Blaney, but...
I know.
I feel confident about using Josh Berry right now.
All right.
All right, that's that.
DBC picks.
Josh, don't let me down.
Shout out to you on going to Legacy.
As you guys know,
we've been taking a little bit of a newer approach
to weekend winners.
the last couple weeks, and I'm super pumped about our caller today.
Had a super big win over the weekend in really exciting fashion.
Owen Larson, welcome to DBC.
Yeah, thanks.
Owen, was that your favorite win so far?
Because the clip has gone viral of the dice thing at the end of that race.
Is that your favorite one so far?
Yeah, by far.
Definitely super fun.
Talk about the end of that race, man.
Sliders back and forth.
How'd you get it done?
I just listened to Clinton and Carson.
they were most of the help and it worked out really good got a good start and kind of got into the back of the five car and
you know he got to go to the bottom and I was at the top and got around both of them and worked on the lead
I heard there was some kind of bet involving a Burmax or the winner got a Burmax was that true yeah I was super happy about that was that a bet with Clinton Carson or was that the race is giving them the way that was the race trophy and
My sister was probably more happy about that.
So is that all we got to do to get you to go full out now is just give out Burromax's every race?
Yeah, I wish.
Talk to me about Clinton and Carson because I know they're helping you.
They're with you all the time.
How much help are they?
And how much better have they made you over the last year or so?
There are lots of help.
They help me a lot with new setups and that, like that.
when over at Coles County
they got a new setup in
and it worked out really good.
It's got to be fun to hang out with them too, right?
It's kind of like having two like big brothers in a way.
Yeah, they're super fun.
You got a little emotional in your interview I saw
in your text with your dad.
What was that about?
Where was that coming from?
I don't know.
I just, I feel like I was about to cry.
So there's been a thing this year
where we have people on the podcast
and they go on to win races.
I'm very happy to see that you've stolen the thunder from your dad
because we had him here a couple weeks ago.
He hasn't won anything since then and you've won twice.
So, I mean, I'm happy to see you're the one winning instead of him.
Yeah, thanks.
He said try not to let you guys pick on him before the interview.
We would never, ever consider doing such a thing.
He knows us too well.
Well, when that was a hell of a race, man,
I was jumping up and down watching all three you guys race hard.
And actually we decided very at the end, right, to have him on there because the show you put on, man.
Just keep racing like you doing, man.
Be a professional and see you on top.
Yeah, hopefully it's like that over in Plaza Park for the three days.
I'm going to be over there.
Awesome.
What's your favorite racetrack own?
I like highly ridiculous county, but right now it's probably Delta.
Delta's fun.
I want to know the specifics of that check that I see in the background.
know what the driver payment is for mom and dad?
Well, me and my dad, if I win, we split 50.
And if I get like second on back, we split 40%.
Well, I'm going to tell you, when you get ready to redo your next deal, you call me.
I'll be your manager.
Now I'm going to get you a little more money, okay?
All right.
Oh, and what race are you looking forward to?
I know you got a bunch of races left this year.
What race are you looking forward to before the end of the year?
Probably like shootout.
Definitely has definitely been my favorite.
I've been waiting for that one a long time.
You're going to get a driller this year?
Hopefully.
How many classes are you running?
All six.
Wow.
Five.
Five classes.
Where's your mom out?
I got a couple questions for your mom here.
Where's she?
I know she's got to be close by.
She probably...
For legal reasons.
For legal reasons.
For legal reasons we have to.
But, you know, Caitlin just want to ask you, first of all,
I didn't, luckily,
you didn't see you shotguning any juice boxes in Victory Lane the other day.
But how is it for you?
What kind of spectator, mom, are you?
Are you the nervous on edge type?
Are you kind of over the top yelling, screaming?
What do we got?
No, I definitely am not yelling and screaming.
I mean, I will say at the end of that race that they were battling.
It was pretty exciting.
So I definitely got up, I got up on my feet.
But I'm usually pretty calm.
I'm usually filming the race.
I'm definitely critiquing in my head.
And I am surprised.
I sat by Clinton this last race, and I was telling a Leo Wolf who Cade was racing.
I was like, okay, I think Cade needs to run this line.
And I think Owen needs to run this line.
And then Clinton gave a signal, and I was like, I'm right.
I do you know what I'm talking about.
Is it easier to watch Owen or the kids race or Kyle?
Like, are you used to Kyle now?
Like, what's that like from your perspective?
I think I've said this now.
I think the more, the older I get and the more things that happen in racing, the more nervous
I just get across the board no matter what.
Yeah.
So I think I have nerves no matter what.
We're not too far away.
We're not too far away from all three of them probably being on the track together.
How is, how is that going to go?
Well, I'm used to.
I was going to say, wait, too.
Well, I was talking about Cooper, but I didn't realize Kyle's probably going to do it over.
racing against him too.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, I've grown up or, you know, not grown up, but been around my brother and Kyle
racing on the track a lot, and that's not my favorite.
And then, yeah, even Kyle and Owen have been on the track together now.
So I don't know, Owen and Audrey, that might be a little.
That's going to be where the knockdown dragouts come.
I mean, you guys have seen me and my siblings before at Millbridge.
So that's where the real fun comes in is when the sibling competition happens.
Yep, I mean, Audrey had a bloody nose this weekend from another competitor, so I'm sure that...
Jesus.
I'm sure there's going to be some physical action.
Oh, and you can't say, Dad, you can't say Uncle Brad.
Who's your favorite race car driver to watch?
Colin Lach you said?
Oh, that's a good one.
That's a good one.
All right, buddy, we will congratulations.
We will hopefully be talking to you a lot in this segment.
This segment's all about winners.
and hopefully get some more trophies this year.
I don't know we'll be recording in December,
but if you go get a driller,
maybe we have to start our own episode up.
So good luck the rest of the way, buddy.
And I hope you win all the races
and your dad wins none of them.
Good luck.
Super fun.
I like doing that segment that way too.
It's nice to get to talk to them.
Yeah, so we're going to change us up a little bit.
Listen, you know, I would love to sit here.
This is a work in progress.
I would love to sit here and read out every damn winner of the racetrack.
But even before we started today,
kind of confirmed it.
Like, it's getting drawn out and people are skipping through it.
And I know it's great.
We're going to have the scroll at all times for every winner that win this week.
And I'm still making the list.
We're just not going to sit here and read the entire list because thank God.
Even this week, the flow list alone is longer than the list has been for the last couple weeks.
But no, there was one.
There was some.
Tommy, I know you wanted to mention Otto Sitterly.
Yeah.
Six time, right?
Six time.
He's won the Bud Classic at Oswego.
It's the biggest race of the year up there.
Yeah, just I always wanted to stay for that race, you know, but for some reason we never...
Was that the race that used to give out cases of Budweiser for the lap leader or whatever?
It was set running second for the modified.
It was Bud Classic the night before we'd run a 200 lap.
And they'd give out six-pack?
A six-pack?
Every lap.
For running second.
So you'd end up, if you run second for the whole race?
We left with 106...
No, wait.
50.
That's what happened
after you drank them all.
This is why he doesn't remember.
Yeah, it was like 106
six packs, I think,
one of the time.
Carson Cars tour race this weekend?
Yep,
we had,
it was Caden Knight in America.
Caden Couple won
our late model stock race
and Caden Honeycutt won the pro.
And then all straight rail,
Dale, finished second
in the pro late model.
So that was...
Straight rail Dale.
That's what we've been calling him
all weekend.
I love it.
He likes it too.
He tried to tell me he don't, but he does.
I watch the Cars Tour race,
and you know, my favorite part about that series
is all of the guys that have moved on
that go back and run it.
And I say that because one of Carter's best friends runs a pro.
Actually, he's leading the point right now.
Mason Walters.
Yeah.
And I could tell Carter was jealous as we watched that
because Dale was in the race.
And just like, that's such a great moment
if you're a young kid racing
to get to race against guys that you've watched.
Either Dale, who's a little older,
generation or someone like Caden who's
kind of an up-and-comer. And I mean, even that
weekend, you had late model stocks, we had
SVG and Connor over there too.
SVG fit in like a turd and a punch bowl
in the place, man.
I was worried. I'm like, when we went over
to the shop to do content
of his car, I'm like, they were like, we were worried
he was going to be too tall to like fit this
thing. I know Jamie, you had mentioned being in
Pressing Carson Lofton this weekend.
Yep, the role he's on. I feel like every time he's shown up this year
has it three times he's one. Yeah.
three times. Seems to always be the fastest car and just, yeah, does a good job.
He's, I don't know Carson very well. I've spent a little bit of time talking to him, but
just seems like a really good kid. He won cars to a race earlier this year.
So yeah, he's always been a bright future.
So, some of my favorites from the weekend. Amanda West won her S.K. Light Race. She knows
how to hang on to a lead late in a race, unlike her boyfriend.
Mikey Christopher led late in the SK race. He lost. He got passed on the last lap, I think.
J.J. Ealy goes out.
A little controversy too.
I mean, just dumped the guy. I didn't even know you could dump people in dirt cars.
That was fun to watch.
He had a good run last night, too. He came in second.
I forget who won. I think RJ Johnson won the race.
The Louis Vermeal classic.
Scotty McLaughlin returned to Indy Car Victory Lane.
And the last one I want to give a shout out to was Mike Rowe won his, I believe, eighth championship at Oxford Plains Speedway.
76 years old.
They said he's retiring this year.
But the guy that sent me the thing, he said he's also retired eight times before.
So we'll see if he does it.
And again, the list will be scrolling while we do this segment.
We're going to get as many names on there as we can.
Just sitting here and reading them all off was taken away from the show a little bit.
So we're going to try.
This will be a work in progress.
Maybe we'll shout more out as if we see first time winners.
Share it when we, when I have those posts about weekend winners to post those in there,
send them in there and tell a little story about the win.
If maybe we give out shoutouts to first time winners and stuff like that.
But yeah, we'll work on it, but just trying to clean it up a little.
Yeah.
I think we're getting towards the end of the year.
We're going to have all the special races.
So I think we can talk about those.
I would say next week, obviously we have the World One Hunter coming up on Flo.
Next week, the winner of that may be on here.
Or I really want to have next week is the World Championship three-hour figure-eight race.
I think that I might extend an invite to whoever.
The winner of that race may be on DBC next week, no matter what.
That would be cool.
Because that race, if you've never seen the World Championship Figure Eight race,
three-hour race
from Indianapolis Speed Dome.
It is something to be watched.
No, it's not on flow.
How can he watch?
They can watch it.
But yeah, so it'll be...
All right, land the plane.
I'm trying to...
I'm fucking joining meetings here.
Me and Jamie, both out of me at 3 o'clock it looks like.
Anyway, so Tommy, where are we going this weekend?
Anywhere?
Racing.
Where is it?
Caraway.
Caraway.
We got Jack at Tri-County in the car store and the pro and Luke's running.
Carraway, yeah.
Is Jack not running Carraway?
He's running Carrey's Tour.
Is it on Saturday, too?
Yeah.
I don't know why I thought they raced on Fridays for some reason.
Carson, where are you going?
Anything that's fun this week?
Try County.
Yep, we got our Sound Gear 225.
Hey, presented by Stoke's Shoes.
Yeah.
We're doing a Frisbee toss, some other fun stuff,
and then we kind of co-promoted the week with ASA.
So we'll be out there tomorrow with our merch trailer.
So if you're going to be at the ASA race,
come see me and buy a ticket to ours too.
Excellent.
Carter's racing Carraway?
Yep.
Fun.
Yep.
four to it.
You guys,
like five weeks in a row.
Are you going a gateway or?
No,
we do it from the studio.
Yeah.
Cool.
Awesome.
We thank you guys for listening.
We have a fun show planned next week.
We have a father and son coming in.
I won't give any more insight than that.
But it is.
It's not Luke and Tommy.
It's not Ryan and Dave.
I'm sorry.
Still trying to work on that one.
For some reason,
Dave don't want to come talk to Tommy.
I don't know what that is about.
He probably yelled at him too much back in the day.
But it is a fun father show,
father son.
show coming up. So we'll be back with those guys after Gateway, and it's hopefully not
a thousand degrees this weekend. We'll see you guys later. We're out. Peace up. Bye.
