Door Bumper Clear - Jeff Burton & Leigh Diffey: We're Not Other Sports, We're NASCAR
Episode Date: October 12, 2026Leigh Diffey and Jeff Burton join Door Bumper Clear, and after a wild weekend at Charlotte, there was a lot to get into.Jeff opens up about the biggest regret of his career: rushing out of victory lan...e after his first win at Texas, and skipping victory lane entirely when his brother Ward won the Daytona 500. He also explains why a $100 bill signed “first driver contract” by Richard Childress is hanging in his office.Leigh tells the story of trying to set up a day with Ward Burton, and the text reply that came back. He also runs through the nicknames he’s picked up over the years, including a few you won’t hear on TV.Then the conversation turns to the Chase. Kyle Larson didn’t win at Charlotte and still extended his lead. Chase Briscoe said he’d attack Larson from the start and did. And Leigh says he’s never seen Christopher Bell that mad after a race. Jeff explains why Talladega could turn into a chess match with a new rules package and no practice. He also says why he thinks “our sport made a mistake” trying to look like other sports.Plus, Freddie takes everyone inside Bubba Wallace’s hard crash, the guys react to Sam Mayer calling out the drivers behind him, Reaction Theater catches Jeff’s apparent “Caution Hocevar” slip, and plenty more! The following is a production of Dirty Bowie.
This is the first time you've read the fucking sheet all year.
A bird's shit on my head.
That is what reaction theater is for.
Getting hammers and calling in.
Where did they speak?
Go.
I don't know.
Flax and crescent.
It's going to be gripped up.
Absolutely.
It's two idiots.
Bubba did not do shit, unfortunately.
Period.
Period.

Hi, guys, welcome to door bumper clear.
I am still Freddie Craftspotter for Bubba Wallace
for all about 60 laps.
I felt like yesterday, whatever that ended that stage was, 80 laps.
Dean Thompson, G. G.O. Zero, busy week.
Thomas, how are you today?
Good morning, yeah, good.
I saw you.
I look over one time in the middle of the race yesterday.
All of a sudden you're standing there next to me.
I'm like, oh, hey, Tom.
How you been?
I figured I'd come watch it in person again, see what's going on.
Did you enjoy the view without a ladder?
Yeah.
Three years now we're still spotting from fucking ladders up there, but it's cool.
I know, I disappeared.
I went and hung out with my grandbaby, the rest of the race.
I know.
When we crashed, I was going to text you, and I was like, I went down to the care center
to make sure my guy was still with us.
Lee Diffie and Jeff Burton in the room.
today. Guys called a hell of a race yesterday at the end there. It seemed like an exciting race.
Lee, welcome back. Nice to be back. Yeah, it's always good at my once a year visit. So it's good.
It feels strange being this far away from Jeff when there's a microphone because we sit shoulder to shoulder.
That would be awkward.
That would be. Maybe you guys are tight. I did not know you guys. Not that tight.
Burton, welcome back. Burton, I've seen you reached out and you wanted to come in here.
I don't know. Most people, we got to drag them in. You seem like you want to do this.
I like coming in here.
I like stirring up the shit.
Well, welcome back to both of you guys.
I mean, let's take it off.
What did you guys think of the race yesterday?
I mean, I know it seemed like, you know, it was kind of, you know,
typical mile and a half then, but then cautions fall perfectly at the end of the race
and we set up a really good finish.
I was thinking about on the way home last night in the car.
And to me, the race yesterday at Charlotte Motor Speedway was emblematic of what the chase has been this year.
So we were wondering what the chase was going to be like.
And week after week, it shows us that of this.
variety and that guys, they still have a chance, they're still in it. And yesterday we went into
the race where people like, hey, we're happy to be back on the Oval. There's going to be a lot of
movement. There's going to be a lot of passing. And I think we got that kind of a race. And for
sure, we didn't expect that kind of a finish. So I thought there were bonuses all round.
Yeah, Burton, how much like, you know, obviously I felt like we all kind of knew going into it,
50 laps was going to be the number around again when we're going to see issues with maybe
tires courting. Caution falls with 60 to go. You restart, I think, 56 to go. You restart, I think, 56 to
go and you guys are going to be licking your chops up there like oh god i hope this goes green well i mean
honestly you don't you know you never know what's going to happen right that's what's awesome about
racing is you just don't know what's going to happen and sure enough the you know the they started
unraveling on brisco's car and it made a hell of a finish and you know the race prior to that was
wild too i mean the start of that race i mean charlotte has become like the the martinsville
of mile and a half so it has become a wild racetrack and i was super i thought the roval was good
I thought the roval in a place in time was good because the mile and a half race
it wasn't very good, and it kind of shook things up.
But it was time to go back to the Oval.
As good as the 600's been and as good as this car has been on a mile and a halfs,
it was time to get back.
And I'm glad we got the kind of race we thought we could get.
And it was a lot of fun.
You know, pit stops are wild.
It's amazing how big a role pit crews play today.
The 19 pit crew is on freaking fire right now.
And it's a team sport.
and it really has shown up in this chase.
Tommy, do we think at this point Briscoe is just trying to kill James?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, you know how James is.
I mean, he's very emotional person.
You could say it emotionally.
That's a good word.
I wish I could have been in his head the last six, eight, ten laps, you know,
when the problem started happening, and it was just what he was thinking.
But I ended up, I went down.
down there, obviously to check on Bubba at the care center.
So then I just kind of bummed around the garage waiting for the O'Reilly race to start.
And so I was in the Xfinity of the O'Reilly garage.
And I was walking out, like heading back towards the cup garage.
I talked to Corey.
And I'd seen James.
And I was like, I said, boy, he don't make it easy on you.
He's like, let's bother fight.
But, you know, I mean, it was a great race.
I thought, watch it on.
I don't get to watch many on television live.
We thank you, thankfully.
And, but I just, you know, you see, I'm watching.
I wasn't a business where I could hear it, unfortunately, for you guys.
But I just watched the little time just shrank on the left side,
the next to the names there.
And I'm like, oh, Bell's cutting about a half a second into this a lap now.
I said the 19's got to have tire issues.
And Tommy, how much is it driver dependent, setup dependent of, you know, when that happens?
You know, because it seemed like it would happen to about half the guys and half the guys were okay.
Yeah.
And I think it's both.
And I think it's started weeks ago, right?
this coming back and forth with these drivers on these mile and a half tracks.
And normally you see those two or three guys that are really good at saving, you know,
and Denny's one of them.
He surprised me yesterday because usually he's Ryan Blaney, Elliot.
You know, those guys are just really good at saving this stuff and knowing when to go
or knowing what that feel is going to be like and do it.
This is like, I think this is the second time, right, at the last three mile and a half step.
Briscoe has went hard, probably harder than he should have, right, and caused the problem.
But if he doesn't go that hard and the problem still happens, he gets beat, right?
So you got to, you know, it's like it's a cat and mouse chase right now with these tires.
I mean, like you guys said, about lap 45 to 50, everyone started having problems.
So, yeah, I thought it was a good race.
I mean, I was, those guys are nuts getting into one, man.
I mean, I was sitting in them grandstands over there.
Noah, I mean, that some bitch didn't care from lap one.
I mean, he kept that outside groove clean the whole race for everybody.
And I got to give a shout out to SVG.
I mean, he run his ass off all day.
I mean, again, he was up top, passing cars, battling with the 17 and the 22 and the won most of the race.
And Corey Heim, that was a little race in itself.
I don't know if you guys watch it, but those four or five guys, man, they play.
on a hell of a show. And Josh Berry.
Yep. And Josh.
Yep. And Josh. Yep. So there was, there was, I kind of felt, because we have to focus on
the race for the championship, of course. But there was that secondary race that was going on that
was highly entertaining. And we, that's why we double box quite a bit because there was,
our director does such a good job. There was, there was so much going on. But I thought,
just listening to you before, there was a definite moment in the race where you could tell
the likes of Briscoe and Bell and others and Blaney later, we,
We are attacking Kyle Arson.
We are not going to stand back and let this guy go.
Now, although, with that being said, his points advantage has grown.
But they showed clearly they were on the attack,
and they were not going to sit back and let him just drive off again.
Well, you've seen on the first stage, even coming to the competition caution
and the first stage that the five car wasn't as good on a long run as the other guys.
You already seen it.
So when you get to that point as a crew chief, you have to think about a couple things.
Now, do I try to make that better for a long run and hurt my short run?
Am I thinking about a short run later in the race where it's going to be important to have a good short run car?
I mean, I think you've seen it a little bit with Jesse, and we'll talk about that.
He had a really good short run car in the O'Reilly's race, but he ended up losing when he had a chance.
But I think, you know, all these guys' mindset on the pit box is like, I don't want to ruin what I have, right?
So what do I do?
And you've seen the five, the 19, there was a couple others that were having issues,
probably a lap 40 on that you knew you could sink your teeth.
And Blaney did a good job.
He waited, right?
And I don't mean to draw.
How many seconds did he pick up, Ryan, the last 15, 20 laps?
I mean, to the field.
And Josh Berry, too.
I mean, he made a good run at the end.
But again, it's the tire that's making the racing good.
I mean, I don't know how many times we're going to keep saying it, right?
And Jeff, you alluded to it earlier.
It's a team sport, the pit stops, right?
The 12 and the 11 made a mistake.
You know, they had some mistakes early on, and they had to start starting the back,
but they made a good comeback.
Normally, in his playoffs, that hurts.
I mean, the 11 was stuck back there, right?
And he got to a point, and you could see.
And I think he just said, you know what, I'm going to wait for a pit stop, get my guys to give me some positions and keep moving up.
So it was an entertaining race.
Yeah.
Was that the first race you called on the Oval?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was thinking about yesterday, I'm like, he's been coming here for a while, but he's probably done the Roval for the Roval.
I've sat in the stands and watched.
I've called the Roval.
Trying to think if there was any other form of racing that are called there.
I don't think so.
But yeah, I was excited.
We said that in our production meeting, didn't we yesterday?
Because they say, okay, kick it off, Diff.
And I said, well, first of all, I'm excited from a person.
from a personal standpoint.
I've never called a race on the Oval here.
And Jeff said,
get ready.
It's going to be fun.
It was.
It's wild.
Well,
it's funny is how many few drivers
that actually run a fall race
had run the old.
Yeah.
Like,
if you look at,
how many drivers
that run a day race at Charlotte?
It got pretty low number.
Yeah.
And, you know,
you talk about like Bell
coming on at the end.
They're like,
I don't know how much they were,
were they holding him back
and like taking care of tire
because I looked like he just took off.
I don't know if that was more than 19.
It was more than 19.
Yeah.
I mean, you look at the speed,
he lost almost a second towards the end, the lap, you know?
So, yeah, I mean, the 20 just stayed steady, right?
He did what, but if you looked, Blaney was catching the 20, too.
Yeah, Blaney, I thought beginning of the race,
right from the first run, the two was really strong.
At the end of that, like, comp, caution run,
he was going to drive to the lead if it was another lap longer.
Then Blaney, Barry, those guys were all coming on strong at the end.
So them guys have figured out something to, you know,
be a little bit stronger in the long run,
where it looked to me like the Toyotas,
And the five were kind of struggling a little bit, maybe not so much Bell, obviously.
But yeah, I thought it was, you know, for getting watching the race, I thought it was okay.
Obviously, our deal, I see it's on the show sheet here, so they want to talk about it.
Yeah, I mean, just wrong place, wrong time for Bubba.
I feel bad for Bowman because he feels awful.
And he went to Bowman's credit.
He went to every guy in the garage that was working on our car, working on the 24 car yesterday,
apologized to all of them.
I was walking around down there between the hauler.
He came over and apologized to me.
I know he sent me in Bubba a text almost immediately.
Like I said, Alex, I know you didn't do it on purpose.
Like, you know, I said, I'm honestly glad we were there because if we weren't there,
you know, you're going to hit the wall a lot harder.
And I mean, Jeff, that just happens sometimes, right?
I mean, it just steps out.
We've all done it.
And if you're pushing hard and you're trying to make something happen.
And to be honest, like to me, all the fast cars were loose.
Like nobody was just fast.
The car wouldn't turn.
So that's what happened to Bell.
Like Bell took off.
And he was pushing Briscoe pretty hard.
And you saw, like, boom, he got loose.
And he was hanging on.
Well, the interesting thing about that wreck was Bowman, he said, he said, I've been
tight all day.
And all of a sudden I got loose.
And when that happens as a driver, you aren't ready for it.
And you have to push these cars, have to be pushed so hard.
And when they lose grip, they lose it.
They lose it like that.
And so it just caught him off guard.
I hated it for him because, you know, he's had a tough career.
he's a fast race car driver
just has had so many big impacts
been injured so much
and obviously you guys
just minding your own business
but that stuff happens
you're gonna
if any driver
that doesn't just lose it
every now and then
didn't try and hard enough
it's just part of the game
yeah did you
did you see
redix save to get around
that mess
which was one of about
six things that happened
to Tyler yesterday
we kept saying
oh that's a crash
that didn't happen
that's a crash that didn't happen
he had one of those
He just made so many miraculous sights.
Yeah, he would get so loose.
He would drive a one hand.
I saw that.
Like in car camera, he would get loose and he'd take one hand off the wheel so he could just,
it was pretty wild.
I think I'm not sure of ever seen that before.
I didn't know.
It looked strange to me that deal in the beginning where he, it just looked like he couldn't
turn in one and two when he kind of washed up in front of Reddit, I mean in front of
Ty Gibbs.
You know, it just looked like it kind of took off on him and he was just along for the ride.
He was like this.
His hands like this.
And his car's going straight.
And that's another one that was just wrong place, wrong time.
for tie you know you that's sometimes that shit's going to happen in the chase right where it's just
your your day's going to get affected by some of the other guys that they're just out there you know
trying to run their own race and you know we were we were probably racing the 48 a little bit harder
than we needed to but we were doing that because he was pitted behind us on pit road so it's like you know
you were trying to hold him back there so you got a clean entry and bubba i had told bub i was like yeah
i know but just keep in mind the big picture and i said i know but if we can hold this fun guy off
It helps us a lot on pit road.
And, you know, then we obviously, the wreck happened.
So, yeah, I don't know.
It's just, just wrong place, wrong time.
Bubba and Alex, I talked to both of them yesterday.
I haven't talked to you to one today.
They both seemed like they were doing okay.
I know Bubba's dumb ass got out of the car and said he still had nine fingers and nine toes.
So that's just, that's if you know, Bubba, that's just normal for him.
I said to him, I said, you didn't answer us on the car.
And he's like, yeah, well, I didn't want you making fun of me all week because I couldn't,
well, you know, if I tried to answer you while I couldn't breathe because I think he just really
knocked the wind at him, especially a wreck like that, yeah,
where you really don't see it coming, you know, like it's a guy underneath you.
Yeah, you're a real more relaxed.
You know, I'm just going to drive down here and all of a sudden you're, you're backwards
and piled in the fence and it's just, you know, not ideal.
Well, they hit the same, you know, these cars, when you, a rear impact is a pretty big
impact of these cars.
And on top of that, he hit the same part of the car twice.
So the crush zone was gone the second time he hit it.
And, you know, it's just, it was just a big impact.
It's, to be honest with you, get your attention a little bit, like, took him a while
to get out of the car.
You're like, hey, man, is he okay?
Yeah.
It is a reminder to everyone, you know, these,
you know, safer barriers and incredible seats and incredible technology.
When you strap yourself into something going that fast and you hit something,
it's a chance you know, still a dangerous sport.
It's safer than it's been, but it's still a dangerous sport.
Yeah.
Do we have any idea what was going on with McDowell and Stenhouse at the end of the race?
No, I don't know.
I mean, obviously Stenhouse did something, something to McAul.
The only thing I saw at the end was Stenhouse pulled up and looked like he just kind of door slammed him.
And then McDowell hooked them.
But I don't know what led to that.
I didn't know if they said anything post-race that I missed or it just,
I saw them talking and McDowell still had his helmet on because he's saying Ricky put
I'm sure we'll find out for him.
There was that late race incident where McDowell went up into the wall.
Remember we showed that?
Yep.
Yep.
But I don't know what predicated that.
It's just, I mean, an interesting day.
Jason happens.
Yep.
The metric again, Tommy.
You know, this is now, what was it, four out of six in the playoffs, I think?
It was not nine on the year.
Nine on the year, four out of six in the playoffs.
Let's talk metric.
You want to talk metric?
Well, so what do you think you should be?
Owners points.
Owners points.
So.
For rainouts.
For rainouts.
Yeah, I can get my head wrapped around that.
I do think it's important to remember how we got here.
Yeah.
Because, you know, we've gotten it.
There has been, since COVID, there's been a lot of different looks at how do you do it.
And, you know, qualify in order, if you talk to guys that were 25th, 28th, and
points, they couldn't get, they could never qualify well. So they were starting in the back and,
you know, like, hey, man, we got to come up with some kind of system that doesn't consistently
have us qualifying in, you know, in the order in the back and we can't qualify well. So the
metric got created. And then this year it got shifted so that it's more of a percentage based on
what you did last week. So it takes into account a race. The question is, should you start a race like
that, right? And I think, I think, I like the, I like qualifying order like that. I think it makes
sense. But I think if we're going to a, and I don't, not because the chase, I don't care
where you are in the chase. I don't think that should have any bearing on anything, in my opinion.
If for to, to start a race and a rain delay, I think it needs to be owner points. Now, that's
going to put all the, the chase guys in the front in that case. So be it, you know, it's just
where they are in points. But I do like to mix up in the qualifying draw because you can't, once you,
once you're 28th or 30th and points, even if you have a, you know, you just almost can't
claw out of it because you're, because you're qualifying order always sucks.
Yeah.
Yes, I agree.
But we're here, we're here to race.
Every weekend we show to race, you know, show up to race.
And you shouldn't be hurt from the week before because it's a whole different race, right?
It's a whole different place.
You know, some people aren't very good at Bristol compared to Charlotte.
I mean, so, I mean, we're at the point now.
with these cars and the changes that we're allowed to make on pit road and do the things that we need to do,
it still should go by practice speeds of that race.
It still should be.
And then, you know, qualifying order about practicing.
You should be awarded for that day.
But you remember what we used to do when we did that.
I know, but you don't have to.
There's a lot of cheating going on.
Jeff, we still do.
We still run the car's 50, 60, 40 laps to get fuel out for qualifying.
We don't have cool down units anymore.
You can't run tape.
You can't do a lot of things that you could do in the past.
You have your car.
You only have these changes.
You get two sets of tires if you choose.
If you go out and you make a lap in the beginning,
you don't want to run your second set of tires
and make a mock-up run to move up in qualifying order.
So be it.
It also gives something for TV to talk about.
Hey, man, Ryan Blaney's 30th in practice.
Will he have to use a set of tires to scuff to go against his race?
I mean, it's just, I think there's a, like, I hate, I hate getting hurt by the week before
when it's a whole new week.
I hate it for the guys, right?
It's like, it's not your, it's not Bubba's fault, right?
Was yesterday's Bubba's fault?
No.
Okay, what's he going to have to do this week?
Go out 16.
It sucks.
Yeah.
Right?
It sucks.
I just think we should, we're here to race, right?
Yes.
COVID was a whole day.
different thing. We couldn't do things, right? We couldn't do those things. So yeah, it was kind of cool,
but it's changed. I mean, we, I think we, in my opinion, we, we need to go back to getting awarded
to showing up how hard you worked all week long for that particular race. But when it gets rained out,
what's the, what's, what's, well, do you want more weighting? So it's 70% based on last week's result,
30 on owners. Do you want 50-50? No, I just want an honest point. You want 100% owners. Yeah.
Like the guys.
We did it like that forever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And, you know, I agree.
I think I seen Stevie say this somewhere where it's, you know, he didn't like it.
I don't like that it's different.
You know, we give the chase guys an advantage for qualifying order, but we don't give them the advantage for the lineup.
Like, it's, if it's, it should be one or the other.
I think if it's either don't give them the advantage in the qualifying order or start them straight off owner points and, and whatever.
Yeah, give them a practice.
Yes.
For that.
For the reign.
Yeah.
But even, even though.
I mean, it should be going off practice speeds.
If you suck, you go out, and you suck in practice, you go out first or second and qualifying.
You've got to keep paying the price.
Yeah.
You shouldn't have to pay the price because the 48 wrecked you.
Yeah.
The only thing I like about that is you're going to have people that are just, you know, you're essentially throwing a set of tires away.
You don't have to.
Well, yeah, you would.
You would have to.
You don't have to.
You'd have to blow air pressure up.
You'd have to do all that stuff.
And then you can't really bleed the air back out of them and have a good.
run.
You know what I mean?
So I like the weighted system.
I think for qualifying draw, I do think because it does, where you are in points does
matter, right?
So you are looking at the overall year and you are looking at last week.
I hear what you're saying.
And look, we used to do it a bingo ball.
Yeah.
It used to be just random draw.
You know, so I don't know.
There's a hundred ways to do it.
But I do think going into next year, I think if it's regardless of qualifying order,
I do think if it gets rained out, it should just be just points.
I think that's the most fair way to do it.
But I don't like doing qualifying order by points because we've done it and we saw it didn't work.
So, you know, that's only, I would like to do the same thing all the time.
Yeah, something similar.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I just, yep, it is what it is.
It's, yeah.
O'Reilly race, obviously really good race again, as they are every week.
I thought Allgaier had the best car
and it just kind of, I don't know if it got away from at the end there
to set up balance-wise or
I saw he get the fence, you know, and that
seemed like after he hit the fence, that was
the end of his chance of winning, really.
17 overcomes pit road penalties.
He comes blasting back through there.
The last restart, I was just watching it again with Jeff.
I saw it this morning.
I have no idea how he generated the run he had
from getting, he got split down the front stretch
on the restart by the 21 because 21's, you know,
the two's on the pole.
So the 21's probably doing everything.
He cannot help the,
17 and he splits him.
So now that 17's getting sucked back through the middle, getting into one,
the next thing I know, he's got a good enough run off of two to pass the two guys in front of him.
It was incredible to watch.
And the kids, I mean, the kid's super talented.
We know that.
But he is on the edge every lap.
I mean, you guys are watching, obviously.
But when they had the car behind him with the camera showing him,
yeah.
I mean, he's 10 degrees yard out the whole run.
I mean, he's just.
I mean, digging.
Not even knowing.
I mean, just digging.
He's done a good job of calming it down.
Like, you know, if you think about, he had a lot of stuff and a lot of people and didn't really seem to care.
But he is, he's found a way to keep that speed and keep that aggressiveness and not getting as much stuff.
We'll see as the last few races go if that continues.
And, I mean, he gets mad and he gets fiery, which is cool.
but, you know, he's a, to me, he's an example, like early in the year.
I'm like, I don't know.
I don't know if he can get it together.
I don't know if he has the race craft that is required to run longer races.
Going fast, a lot of people can go fast.
A lot of people can manage races.
Not many can do both.
Well, guess what, yeah.
And you got to find, and he's working his way toward that.
Guess what, yeah.
He's got a lot of money behind him, right?
And he's, everyone's been very patient with him to learn to do things.
things, right? And when you have that, I mean, the kid's got a chance to win the championship.
I mean, how many weeks ago we were like, ah, next year, he's going, he might be a contender.
Now, all of a sudden, you look, he's like, oh, my God, he really has a legitimate chance to win.
Look at the races that are left. He's been good.
We showed up here one day. I forget. I think it was after Cota, and he had wrecked maybe
Zilich or somebody, whoever was in the one car that day. And there was a big maroon helicopter
parked out there. And a guy, a lot of guys in white shirts and black vests upstairs. And that,
you know, I think that that was the turning point. I felt like Tommy, right? Like, we talked about
that. I was like, there's a change coming here. Or, or this is going to be it. Either he figures
it out or he's going to be in trouble. But he does have a lot of money behind him, but he
is being held accountable. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think that, you know, that is that to me. And credit to
the people around him. Credit to him to say, all right, I got to, I got to listen.
You know, I'm young. I got to pay attention. I've got this opportunity. I'm not going to
screw it up. Credit to him. And credit, you know, look, you have to, race car drivers have to be
held accountable. And period, in the story. So to crew chief. So to tire changers. Everybody has to
have a boss. Everybody has to hold you accountable. And the fact they were willing to say,
okay, you're fast, but that ain't the whole story. We got to put this whole thing together.
I mean, that's what leadership does.
That's what real leadership does.
But if you think about it, I mean, he's been used to running 40-lap sprint car.
Exactly.
Wide open.
Wide open.
I mean, so he's learning on the fly.
And these guys are willing to put their arm around him and go, man, we understand.
We know how much time we got to give you.
We've been through this before.
You know, Jeff, they've been through it with Jeff Gordon.
Right.
Yes.
Right.
So they know.
Right.
they know how to handle these things.
Every time I see him succeed,
it reminds me of our dear old friend,
the late Robin Miller,
because Robin loved nothing better
than seeing midget races,
sprint car races succeed
either in stock car racing or open wheel racing.
And I just,
I wish Robin was still around to see how well Corey Seed love it so much.
I know you wanted to talk about this
because I know this is like something you watch,
you love to watch,
the battle of a short run car
versus long run card. Jesse should a really good short run card. The seven was really good on the
long run, especially to the middle of the race. How, like, as of crew chief, how do you, how do you
balance how you talked about a little bit earlier? Like, you know, are you trying to adjust the two to
be better closer to the seven on a long run? Or are you just hoping to catch a short run when you
need it? Yeah, I mean, if I was both crew chiefs, I would have been more worried about the seven
because of a possibility of a late caution of a short run that,
run before that when he did start on the poll and he held on for the lead there. I was like,
okay, maybe he just was doing a really good job of managing his stuff before that, right,
and understood when to go. But it ended up hurting him, right? Him having to go hard there,
I think ended up, you know, hurting what they were thinking about or what they were doing.
But, yeah, the comers and goers of that, I mean, we've seen that our whole lives, right, Jeff,
of letting guys go and I'll see you in about 30 laps.
right and it was uh i don't know if you guys heard you you guys played it when he passed the
the uh two card at one run and he always he said see you know he he knew he was uh he had a good
car but i mean those guys just put on a hell of a race man yeah good uh good day i mean for racing
i mean it was a good day for everybody i mean that damn rain that damn rain between the
races. I mean, it poured it. I know you had laughed. It poured down. I mean, I was, you know, I said this is the
worst race to crash out of in the first stage because I can't go. Yes, it is. How's it any worse?
600 would be the worst. No, it wouldn't be. You can't go, I can't go home because I got another race in
four hours. I can't go drink. I got to sit here, watch. Make sure my driver's not concussed down there.
You know, like, it's like, now it's now then, all right, I've sat here. I'm pissed off that we sat here all day.
I was trying to auction off my O'Reilly gig to somebody.
No takers?
Yeah, no takers for some reason.
Dean ran a Dean race.
Dean ran a Dean race.
But then, you know, we get to, I said, all right, whatever.
We're getting ready to go here.
You know, it's 7.30, 8 o'clock.
And then all of a sudden it starts raining.
And I'm like, you've got to be fucking kidding me.
I'm going to be here all night.
But, yeah, so it was.
But, yeah, that was a fun day.
Then truck race, obviously, really good truck race.
We'll talk a little bit more about that because I'm sure we're going to talk about
those guys in the championship battle.
Cinderick confirmed to come back next year.
I think everybody kind of assumed that already.
Harrison announced his plans this week.
He's going to drive the 78 car, correct?
Peterson racing.
I mean, I'm sure you guys are excited about that.
Yeah, I mean, it's a good opportunity.
It's a, you know, they're starting a second team, moving, moving to RCR, which is cool.
Harrison has a, Harrison has, Richard Chilters gave Harrison a $100 bill when he was like this tall.
And it says, it says, first driver.
contract, Richard Childers, and it's in my office. And so, you know, when all this started
happening, Richard was, Richard was pushing, you know, wanting Harrison to be part of it. And,
and it's kind of cool to, it's kind of cool to have that conversation, you know, where he's like,
hey, you remember that? You remember me? And he remembers. You remember the $100 bill I gave you.
So it's kind of, kind of fun to see, see Harrison up there, be on the campus. You know,
I federally enjoyed my time working with Richard. And, of course, Danny, Danny is highly involved in
the O'Reilly program and he and I
we chewed a lot of dirt together racing
and Mike Dillon. So
it'll be fun for Harrison to get around
those guys that I race with some. That's always
cool to see that connection. Yeah.
And before we move to spot on, spot off, I think the
highlight of the weekend for everybody
was the Kyle Busch celebration of life,
that badass Burnout by Brexton Bush,
him getting out of the car. I don't know
how anybody in the world could have
a dry eye watching that.
I mean, awesome to see. I don't know if you guys
hung around for it. I was down in a
condo and turn one hanging out for a little bit after the truck race but it was just i mean
i know all the clips were out there and everything else it was it was one of the most
coolest moments i've ever seen out there probably yeah i mean a lot of people stayed which
is really cool right and uh to have brexton do all that i'm and i'm thinking to myself how does how is that
some bitch every know how to do all them burnouts like that you know in that car but they said austin
they said austin told him did austin did he said he worked out behind the shop with him
teaching how to do a burnout bubba said bobby said my hair part of it was he stalled
You know, trying to take off.
He said, because we'll three of us will do that tomorrow
leaving pit road.
He said, it's fucking easy.
Yeah, I mean, it's, uh, yeah, he's, he was huge for us, right?
He was huge for us sport and, uh, he, uh, they deserve, uh, all the celebrations
we can give him for sure.
He was a badass.
Yeah, I mean, you know, you just, you think about that guy's, I mean, he just, he's a
badass driver.
He made everybody, he made every driver be better.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And, like, spending time with him at KBM.
He pushed everybody over there to be better than they thought they probably ever could be.
I mean, he's just, it's unbelievable.
This episode of DoorBurclear is brought to you by FVP.

Spot on.
Spot on.
Did you want to go first on this one?
I think he's a whiny bit.
That's what I think.
Send it.
Why me?
All right.
By the way, Carson, unfortunately.
Oh, yeah, where is cars?
Carson is under the weather.
I shouldn't have said that at the top of the show.
I didn't even notice that she was sweet.
I noticed she wasn't here, but I forgot to mention that Carson's a little under the weather.
She got to enjoy her first hard card experience this weekend.
She was at the racetrack with us.
And then she, O'Donnell came in here earlier this year and told her she could have a hard card.
So he got her hard card.
She finally went to the racetrack this weekend.
And I don't know.
She just said she's a little under weather.
I saw her on pit road.
So she was there.
She was there.
She was definitely there.
I saw her.
I don't think this was any, you know, no lollipop flu, as we've called in the past.
No brownback flu.
Yeah, no brownback flu.
I think she's actually sick.
I think it's kind of going around.
I think everybody's got a little touch or something right these days.
But yeah, so Carson, we sometimes miss you.
I'm sure you don't miss us at all.
But yeah, we're going to move to spot out, spot off, and we're going to make Dalton do all the work today.
Why don't we let him do it?
I can't do it as good as him.
I know, I know.
I know.
I mean, read that.
Hold on.
Read that.
He has, believe it or not, he has a sheet of paper, Tom.
I can't even see.
If anyone wants to beat Kyle Larson, they'll need to win two of the next four races.
Spot on, spot on.
League, spot on.
So I said to myself, self.
I figured you were going to do it a little bit more exciting.
That's all I mean, I mean.
Tired today, Tom.
It's a little.
No, yes, it's spot on.
I have to.
I mean, that's that was kind of the point of irony.
Yesterday we enjoyed this thrilling race and somebody else won that wasn't the five,
but yet Kyle still extended his points lead.
Yeah.
So, yes, that's spot on.
They have to.
You know, Briscoe has shown it what to do by winning two in a row.
They have to.
Somebody has to go on a tear to or you have the misfortune of the five.
But they've been so, we talk about it all the time.
They've been so consistent and so together.
this chice. It's been like flicking a lot switch.
Jeff, I feel like we talk about
every time we talk about generational
runs in the chase, it always goes back
to that run. Tony made, with him and Carl.
And I mean,
right now, Larson's averaging
a 2.8 finish in the first
five races in this thing. Like, is this
even more impressive than that run was?
That's pretty impressive. But
let's don't forget
Talladega's coming. Yeah. And so
not only the fear
of wrecking at Talibah's
But you could easily, easily not get any stage points at Talladega and run well.
You could come off turn 5th and finish 18th in the first stage or second stage.
So if Larson goes to Talladega and doesn't get stage points and finishes 14th and
Hamlin goes and gets, you know, has a 65 point day, it's a different ballgame.
So I don't think, I think the majority of the people,
have to win two races, but I don't think everybody has to win two races.
I think Denny Hamlin, look, if Kyle Larson doesn't have any problems and he keeps this average
finish up, no one's going to beat him.
I don't care what they do.
Well, I mean, even then, I think, you know, if, if Denny goes out and wins the next two races
and gets, you know, average stage points as a winner would, and Kyle runs second, Denny's
taken 20 points at a time out of that lead, you know?
So even if he continues to run second, Denny goes and wins, he's going to erase a big chunk of that
deficit. And I think Tommy, there's a couple guys that are just outside of what we think is
the cutoff line that are getting ready to make a run here. Well, Blaney and Lugano, we're going to
Phoenix, we're going to Martinsville, we're going to Talladega. They can take a big chunk out of this
really quickly. So I think that like with that bonus for winning the bonus points for winning
has changed what we thought is an insurmountable gap. Because if you go and win three races,
you know, if if Lugano goes on that run like he went at the end of the regular season, he can
a race a 60 point gap in two weeks, three weeks, whatever it is. So I think it's far from over.
It is. But the five car also runs pretty good at those two races. But you touched on it, Jeff.
Taledega is going to be the race because think about how Denny Hamelin's been running Talladega races.
He's not going to be able to be riding. He's not going to be able to do that, right? Think how good
the Penske cars are. Think now what the five car is going to have to do in defense because the Penske
cars are so good. Think about now how the 11 car has to change their minds on how they have to race
that. Think about the 19, how he just don't care and he's just going to go race. So Talladega,
I mean, I think you're going to see some swapping the next couple weeks, but Talladega is going to
be the race that's going to set up the finish in my opinion. And Briscoe, man, you know, he
kind of gave away. They were talking about execution, and the five cars have been executing perfectly.
you know, Briscoe at Bristol gave away probably 20-something points.
You know, he got in the fence late in that race.
He was running right in front of us.
I think he was fifth.
I think he ended up like outside the top 20 or 25th, you know, something like that.
So, I mean, he forfeited a good chunk of points there where he could be, I think
he'd be second in points right now if he just kind of maintained that finish.
Which he admitted to was an unforced error because he went for it when he didn't necessarily.
Yeah, it was right in front of us and he just got to three and got loose and hit the fence and
damage his car.
And it's just, you know, those are the things that can't happen now.
forward. Like, you're here, you guys are, you're not out of it. You know, now you just got to
execute a level that's worthy of a championship. The problem is when you start saying,
I have to win two or three, two of the next four, you're going to make those decisions.
Yeah. Yeah, you're going to make mistakes. It's kind of hard to have it both ways.
Well, think about all the pressure, right, Jeff?
Correct. Not just on the driver. Correct. But on the pit crew, too. I mean, so it's going to,
it's going to, it's, so obviously Phoenix is the next race, and that's the most important because
it's the one that's upcoming. I, I, it's really going to be a,
interesting to see when we come out of Phoenix how Kyle Larson has to attack Talladega.
Right.
Is he in the position to ride around and not worry about stage points?
Is he in that position?
Will he be willing to do that?
You know what I mean?
It's this weekend will set the stage for what ultimately is going to be a chess match at
Talladega with, by the way, a new rules package.
With no practice.
With no practice.
Talladega is next after.
That's right.
Yeah.
Phoenix, Talladega.
I mean, that's going to set up the last.
And the thing about Penskees, they were so good.
They, they, in my opinion, did it better than anybody else.
The fuel savings, knowing when to pit, knowing that strategy, coming out with track position
and later in the race, they mastered that.
The question is, with this package, does that work?
Yeah.
And there's a lot of unknowns.
And, you know, so it's great about this 10 races, is that they each lead into each other.
in Phoenix. All the top six run well at Phoenix. They all run well there. So who's going to make a
mistake? Who's going to execute? Can I come back to something that you just said a few moments ago?
If you tell yourself, if you say you need to win, you have to do what you're saying.
So Chase Briscoe told our Dustin Long, he said, I'm going to attack. This is after the grid was set.
He said, I'm going to attack Larsson from the beginning. I have to right from the beginning.
and everybody's saying, well, well, well, tiger, you know, calm down.
Well, then he doubled down on it.
He doubled down on it in the pre-race show, and he talked to talk and walked the walk.
He did what he said, and this was pre-race.
So it'll kind of Joe Namath style, right, had the courage of conviction.
I think you touched on earlier, too, talking about how guys raced Larson.
You saw Denny put the bumper to him, you know, just.
Yeah, but I like both their interviews after the race.
Yeah.
And they were both first class on, hey, Danny said, man, I left the lane open.
he went for i mean larcen you know and uh denny you know he said the same thing you know so
they're they're they're they know how to play the game it's gonna be fine i haven't been around
christopher bell as long as you guys have but i don't think i've ever seen him so pissed after a race
well it's like it's 20th second place finish this year right he was mad yeah yeah but i should
i don't think he i don't i think he was going to get a little bit of a gift there if he won right
i mean think about i'm not saying gift but you know that he the 19 had a problem he was gone right
So I wouldn't be as mad at that second place finish as some of the other ones.
If it wasn't a teammate, would have been a second place finish?
No, I don't think so.
No, I think he would have sent a little bit of contact on the left for he might have pinned him up against that wall a little bit harder.
True.
But Christopher doesn't race like that.
No, he doesn't.
He doesn't.
After nine years of running the Roval, the Charlotte Chase races are back where they belong.
Spot on, spot off, Jeff.
Spot on, for sure.
but I'm not saying that it should always be like that, right?
We'll have to see.
The great thing about having the roval and the oval in the same facility is you can switch it.
And be honest with you, I like, I mean, you could go ahead and say next year it's going to be the oval.
But I kind of like, like in May.
Just tell them in May.
Hey, we're going to run the roval the oval.
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, why not?
You have plenty of time to prepare.
Like, see what's going on.
One on Saturday, one Sunday, Jeff.
Double header.
See what's happening in the year.
See what's best.
That's where the best racing is.
And then in May, say, we're going to run the rover with the oval and keep it mixed up.
But I, with this car and the condition of that racetrack, I'm spot on.
Lee, how did you feel like this, oh, a mile and a half kind of cookie cutter oval compared to, you know, the last two races, essentially?
Loved it.
Loved it.
And I think the last two races have been, you know, we've had craziness, certainly in the third and final stage and coming to the line at Kansas, you know, the Briscoe Larson.
battle and then you know where were we was it Kansas or it was Vegas it might have been
Kansas where we thought it was settling into some sort of sense of calm and then it just
exploded and so I think the three you know because we had all those short tracks and we had
Daytona thrown into the middle and then we went into this this threesome of mile and a halfs
we were wondering what that stint was going to be like and I think now we're on the
backside of it it produced some three very memorable races so so it was good and I think to
Jeff's point about whether you want to switch it up or not we were talking about this off
the other day. At least we know now that going into next year's chase, we've got a road course
with the Glenn being moved back to a traditional date. So you can use the old Tony Stewart interview,
right? For Taladegh, why don't we just run them backwards? We're not to let the next 15 cars.
I thought it was funny. They asked, somebody asked SVG. I didn't see who it was. I saw it on
Twitter last night, but somebody asked SVG, like what he thought about him. You know, was he upset that
they got away from the roval because he won? And he's like, no, the roval.
was a shit road course.
He said, let's just go to a real road course if we're going to go somewhere.
But yeah, I thought, I thought, you know, spot on because, I mean, all three races delivered.
You know, they're all three races were really good races.
You know, for some reason to me, like watching them, you know, from my perspective, like,
for whatever reason, we just always seem more out of control with Charlotte than we do at any other mile and a half.
I think the racetrack is super racy with whatever they, you know, the track prep they do.
It's just, you know, you can run all over the place right off.
the bat, you know, it's just, I think it's, you know, getting to be probably one of the best,
if not the best mile and a half is on the schedule.
We're getting close, everyone.
Our sport is getting close to being.
Yeah, and it's like you say, I mean, you've been beating the drum to death on here.
At the end of the day, it's tires, you know, I don't know if the finish is that good if the
yellow comes out with 45 to go instead of 55 to go, you know, so, you know, it's, it's,
you get that way.
It wouldn't have been.
No, I mean, you get that great finish.
I'm sorry, getting close to what, that you didn't finish your sentence?
It's getting close to.
being good everywhere.
Right? It's where,
you know,
just keep working. Everyone needs to keep
pulling in the right direction of
they know, everybody knows what
needs to be done. I mean, just keep working
on a little arrow, keep working on softening
that tire.
Let's rock. I think it was really
encouraging how many
people turned up yesterday given the weather.
Yeah. And they turned up like that
because it was disastrous.
This time yesterday morning, on Sunday,
morning there was a thunderstorm and then and all of the surrounding parking lots were empty and then
everyone was watching their radars and the I did I know the place wasn't packed I know it wasn't
yeah but the crowd that was there was was healthy considering the the the weather circumstances
it was a damn hurricane yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah see that hard is see that coming it's probably
hard to get the race track all right Justin Allgaier is still the favorite to win the o'reilly
series championship spot on spot off Tommy
I guess now my guy
blew right rear
You put the whammy right on him
Tommy the last week's on here
It's like Garsoquaple's gonna be the guy to beat
You know and now that done
Like just put the way
Now he's not done but you put the whammy right on him
That is going to be exciting
I'm telling you with those guys
I mean the points are close
And I don't know man
I just think whoever it gets hot
Right
Is gonna obviously he's gonna win it
But just there's some kids coming along now
right there's there's four guys within five guys within 40 points that's what I'm saying
Jesse loved he he held at me the other night he was like you still think the one car is
gonna win the championship like yeah he goes you're wrong I'm gonna prove you're wrong I'm like okay
yeah I mean Sheldon the last two weeks hasn't been what he was the first three you know
they they haven't had he battled back the other day he had a little bit of damages also but
he kind of faded early in the race and then kind of battled back I think he ended up
round the top five or just outside of top five.
Listen,
if you talk about momentum in this sport,
Corey Day has got it all right now.
You know,
the last two weeks,
obviously back to back wins,
you know,
but now we're going to tracks
where you can't really just hang it on the fence
and, you know,
and I'll drive everybody.
But he's going back now for a second time,
right?
Yeah,
yeah.
It's going to be interesting.
And he won.
I think he won Talladega, didn't he?
Or I know he won a plate race somewhere recently.
So, you know, it's just,
who's going to get hot the right time?
Jeff, execution.
right, pick crews, everybody, you know, no mistakes.
You know, you saw yesterday, that's a big swing, the seven,
getting in the fence and losing that race because we talk about,
you know, that's a big swing losing those 15 bonus points.
So, you know, it's just going to be who can execute the best in the last four races.
If I'm not in this championship battle going to Talladega and the O'Reilly race,
I'm not going to run in the front of the pack in the first two stages,
because they're going to tear some shit up.
And I'm afraid to say that.
But I, you know, look, spot on, spot off.
I just don't, I say spot off.
I just think there's, you know, I just feel like there's other people that are actually
a little bit faster and also pit road matters.
And I don't know.
I just, I don't know, things kind of gone the wrong way.
That two pit crew is on it.
Like they're, them guys, I mean, I feel like they're winning the race off pit road
damn near every time.
You know, then everybody's seven car, seven car had the.
Bass has had really good pit stops.
They would just, he had to keep getting out of his
Yeah, he had to go around somebody, right?
But yeah, I think it's going to be, I mean, it's, I mean, like I said, you get
swinging with that bonus point when, I mean, nobody's out of it.
I mean, you could go all the way down to mayor even.
Speaking of mayor, what the, did you see anyone else see his comments?
I just saw him this morning.
He got out of his car.
He's mad.
You know, he was, I don't know, he was right around the top five all night long.
and late in that race, we were out of tire.
Everybody's out of tires,
but we all had pit early, probably what,
like a 15 lap set of scuffs,
about laying down there 10, 12, 10, 15 laps set of scuffs.
And so like, field split,
you know, half the guys pit, half the guys didn't,
to put those scuffs on.
Mayor was, I think, the first one on tires.
Well, or whatever you want to call them scuffs,
he comes trying to blow through there
and somebody hit the wall in front of them.
Then it looked to me like he just kind of ran Clemens
over off of four got damaged
cut his right front down had to come to pit road
and then got out and he's like everybody in this series
sucks everybody behind 10th
and sucks in this series and I'm tired
of it we need they need to do better and I'm like
in my opinion that's
like tell me if I'm wrong like
if you come out on tires behind guys
that you've been better than all night it's kind of
your job to not fucking run on the back of them right
I mean you know you put yourself
possibly an advantage but you know
for the first part of that run
you've got to get through some shit that is
you're going to be much better than, and you can't do it,
then you can't damage your car doing it.
And again, if you paid attention from 12th to 20th last night,
them boys were battling.
I mean, all those, that's a whole other group of guys that were battling their own race.
I mean, so I think what Sam meant was, you know, he, yes, he needed to do a better job
getting through those guys.
And there's going to be some other guys that were up there that didn't pit, right?
That was going to be way slower, but that's racing.
But, you know, don't get out and bash your competitors.
when I think it's your fucking fault.
I mean, Jeff, how many times you've been in that position?
I mean, I know you, but like, you've been in that position before
where you're restarting behind guys on old tires
and it's your job to pick your way through
and get your advantage back now.
Yeah, I saw the wreck because I was there watching them,
but I'm not 100% sure what all happened, you know what I mean,
so it's hard for me to say, but I do think you have to be careful
when you get out and you have a blanket, you know,
all these people back here suck.
Well, yeah, you're going to race with them next week.
I mean, you just be a little careful.
I mean, not for nothing. Sam finished 10th and points.
I mean, is that why he picked a cutoff?
Well, and if you are, and if you are behind 10th, you don't have a whole lot to lose.
So you got to be careful what you say about those guys.
Yeah, I just, I didn't, I didn't think that comment was very necessary.
And I'm sure, I'm sure Sam, I think Sam's a good kid.
He's, he's made some stupid comments in the past and he probably regrets this one too.
But it just seemed unnecessary at the moment.
The championship battle between Lane Riggs and Caden Honeycutt is currently,
the most entertaining across NASCAR's top three series.
Spot on, spot off, Freddie.
I mean, I don't know.
It's spot on because it's two guys.
You know, it's kind of two guys going head to head.
And they're clearly the two fastest trucks right now.
So they're battling for championships,
battling for wins every week.
I thought this week, I thought Caden did maybe a little too much
mirror driving and not so much focused on like what he could execute well.
I think he said that in his post race interview.
I think that Lane said it on the way by,
keep mirror driving or something like that as he as he got loose and kind of pouted the fence but um listen
these guys are the two fastest trucks Tommy they're racing the shit out of each other I don't know
that there's a lot of love loss between them it's great that they're doing it but they both better
be careful because if they keep racing the way they are against each other they're going to
hurt each other so they better be a little bit careful and race a little bit smarter because
they're going to get in a position here coming up where it's going to really matter
because it's getting towards the end, right?
That something's going to happen,
and all of a sudden, they're going to let some other people in.
So please be careful.
Please be careful.
Jeff, we talk about the difference in the gap from first to second points now.
You know, lanes run in second, Honeycutt's leading.
As they run with Honeycutt leading and Lane second,
Lane's 57 points back.
You know, then he passes him, and he goes from 57 back to 17 back in one pass.
You know, so I think that's why we're looking at this is so exciting because one pass can flip the script 40 points.
It is exciting.
I just think they're all, I think they're all exciting.
I think, you know what I mean?
Like we're to that point where we don't know what's going to happen.
So I think it is, it is fun to see those two.
They just flat out faster than everybody else.
It is wild.
That rig struck, there's some days that I watch.
I'm like, there is nobody that is even close to the speed that they have at times.
It's really impressive.
you can see why. Lee, how much fun is it for you? I mean, you've done this in all forms of
motorsports. You know, when you see two guys that are just at each other's every week, a rivalry like
that, like how much fun is it for you to call and then set up the fact that you know these two guys
are just going to do everything they can to beat each other? Well, I think, you know, Jeff,
you know, you remember, we talk about this in the booth where he goes back to his driving days like
that. And it's equally as exciting as a broadcaster, right? Because
We're in the business of sport or, you know, and the sport is a business, but we're in the arena
of entertainment and it doesn't get much better than that. So finishes like we saw in Cup yesterday,
but the finishes that those two have been putting on in the truck series. That's what it's all
about, right? People want to be highly entertained. It's like the amount of college and pro football
games that were decided this weekend like in the last, in the closing seconds of the game.
And that's what we want. So, yeah, I love it. That's what that's what we live for as a broadcasters.
Keep it up.
You don't have to be careful.
Tommy wants you to be careful.
I want you to let some other people into this battle.
Gio,
Gio had a tough night here tonight, so we fell back.
I'm going to need them guys to do some stupid shit here pretty soon.
How many points is he back?
115 or something like that.
All right, DBC fans.
It's time to react.
Remember how did we do on calls this week?
We had about 100.
You know, again, I don't think we'll ever hit the high score of Bristol.
but, you know, it's always fun.
I did listen to every single one.
Every single one this week.
I appreciate that.
So it is time for reaction theater
where the fans can call in and voice their opinions
from this weekend's race.
He slacked off on us at Bristol.
We had, what did you say?
700 calls?
843.
743.
I have two weeks to go through all of them.
I mean, if you're not going to put the effort in, it's fine.
Yeah.
You've got to be going to a better place soon.
I'll take that as a compliment.
All right. Let's start off with this one.
I don't remember.
Briscoe wins and he wins Larson is the points leader.
Thanks for that.
Is he auditioning?
I want to take Carson's place next week.
Yeah, appreciate it.
That was our DBC Pit Road reporter there.
Damn, that was an awesome finish, but oh my God.
Did Chase Briscoll pissed himself right there when Bell made contact on the coming out of turn four?
Because when he stood up on the car celebrating, you could see a little bit of lemonade in that white suit.
Anyways, go Chase Elliott.
Go Chase Elliott.
Yeah, it happens sometimes.
I remember Redick did that somewhere.
He got a white suit and he got out.
it was very clear
he had maybe used the restroom during the race
and Bubba, we didn't, Bubba
they're hugging each other after the race is over.
We pointed out to Bubba like in the post race.
He's like, that son of a bitch came over and hugged me like that.
Freddie, I think this guy
wanted to fight you. I can't really tell.
I wouldn't be surprised.
Was it Tommy?
Hey!
You fat fucker!
Got what I'm into.
There's Freddy Flake.
You know where to find me.
I don't know.
I think he said Air Freddie flag.
We had some Air Freddie flags back in the day.
Gotcha.
So maybe that's what, maybe he was flying a...
He was in the infield.
He wanted you to come back.
He wanted me to come hang out.
I probably had, I could have found him yesterday.
Probably had about five, four hours of just flying and walk around, do nothing.
Friday nights and Saturday night's a good time.
Oh, man.
Saturday nights are good, too, but I have to work Sunday.
So Friday nights better.
Friday nights a little better.
I really like the way Lee Diffy said that's hard in the mouth stuff right out.
after the finish.
So I ask my wife if she could say it
with a British accent too
after I finish first.
British accent.
After I finish first.
Has anybody,
have we done better about figuring out
what fuck country you're from yet?
Does people still call you a Brit?
Yeah.
Well, he just did.
I think people hear it fucking around,
but I don't know.
Like, do you still get all the time?
Hang on, I've got to tell you a great story.
This is true.
As he's sitting here as my...
You know he's from Mississippi?
As he's sitting here as my witness,
this is a true story.
So I grew up as a kid in Brisbane, Australia, not Brisbane, England.
So I worked on a farm.
I didn't work at McDonald's or anything.
My part-time job was on a farm and I studied agriculture.
And I thought that's where life was going to take me.
And anyway, love, I have a little property myself and I love being outside, love nature, etc.
So I really adore what Ward Burton does with his conservation work and all of his stuff outdoors, etc.
So I said to Jeff.
You got, Tommy, you love this.
I said, hey, I've never met your brother, but I'd love to.
And if I come down maybe from New York, Connecticut, maybe Martinsville weekend.
I come down early, spend a day with your brother and could go to one of his properties and just check it all that.
And he said, Jeff said, sure.
He said, hang on.
While we're here, let's text Ward and Jeb just to make sure it all works out.
So he texts and says, hey, Lee Diffy wants to come down, hang out with you for a day, blah, blah, blah.
Ward writes back, who's that?
Right.
Typical ward.
Jeb rides back the Euro guy who calls out races.
That's Jeff.
That sounds accurate.
My favorite, I got a great ward story.
So we were hanging out with Jeb a lot when he was, I was spotting for Jeb at Nutrient.
I mean, I had a colleague with the Nutrient deal.
So we'd end up at a lot of events together.
And I get a lot of shit all the time because my wife is much more attractive than I am.
So they're giving me shit at this party and wards there.
And, you know, so they ended up.
up showing Ward a picture of my wife and
obviously he knows me and he's
like, damn, Freddy,
you ain't a bad looking man.
He says, you can stand to
lose a couple pounds.
God damn, Ward, thanks a lot.
He said, yeah, they're right though.
I said, I'm well aware.
I promise you.
Oh, Ward.
Speaking of broadcaster calls,
this one was from a couple weeks ago,
but I had to play it anyway.
Please tell me, I'm not the only one
who heard Jeff Burton's Freudian slip when he referred to the 77 as caution
hoscivar that was awesome.
Best thing that happened all night.
Fucking caution host of us.
Do you remember saying that?
I have no idea.
I don't remember it.
Now, if Ward said it, that's how Ward would say.
Yeah.
Just regular.
Oh, man.
Whole host of art.
By the way, great job by him again yesterday with the fans,
walked up into the grandstands.
I've seen a picture of him and Phil Smalley up there
hanging out, signing autographs, taking pictures.
Phil's working over time.
Yeah, Phil's got some...
Phil between Carson Hosevar and all the fat-faced pictures.
He's been posted on the internet lately from a bar.
He's been using his filter a little bit too much.
We've got to have to take that away from, I think, at some point.
But, yeah, I mean, I thought, again, Tommy,
that's what we talk about.
Like, that's the good...
That's the genuine Carson.
The stuff that, you know, I saw him do an interview out there,
and then he just walked across race track.
up in the grandstands.
And I paid attention to him the whole race.
He drove a clean race, man.
I think they faded later.
He did.
He went outside the top 10 later on.
He was 12th to 18th most of the race.
We got two more.
This guy thinks he's on to something.
Uh-oh.
So it's like 8 a.m.
Mountain Standard time.
And I got about two bowls and some Kyle Cush up in me, right?
So hear me out
So Brexton's like 11 right
He never left first gear last night
So you do one plus one plus one
What does that equal?
Dude
Brexton's the reincarnation of Dale
One plus one equals three
I'm fucking calling it bro
One plus one equals three
I think it might have been more than two bowls
So that he was maybe smoking on that morning.
It's going to be interesting to see how he progresses.
It's going to be fun to watch.
I like that he still races a lot of different stuff, it seems like.
So it's, you know, I think that's the key to, you know, getting better is getting in different race cars.
All right.
And last one.
I guess I don't know what to say this week.
I learned after that bubble rack, we all four wide Freddie was at the local all you can meet Buffett, holding up the line as usual.
bad ass
Freddy.
I wish.
I was just
wandering around
the racetrack
aimlessly
would have
to sign up
to say
please spot
for my old
rally car.
But yeah
no,
it was,
yeah,
unfortunate day.
It's not
ideal.
But yeah.
Do you get paid
the full
amount if you
fall out
that early?
You still get paid
to say?
Yeah.
Still do
somehow.
Luckily.
Look,
thank God
because if not,
I have to
get about
half my salary
back this year
it feels like
I feel like
that's,
we've gotten
that month
of May,
I think it was,
where we, I think we got caught up in somebody else's wreck like three out of the four races.
And it's just been a not ideal season to say the least, but we'll make the most of it.
I was glad we didn't get buried in points as bad as I thought we were going to.
I think we only fell like two spots and we're still right kind of right there where we can get back in the top 10.
So I think that's probably going to be the goal for now is just to execute and get back in that top 10 and see how far we can go.
All right.
That was it.
To leave an audio message 247.
Call our number 704-802-9572 and we'll play the best.
once each week on our show.
All right, guys.
This second bit is brought to you by FVP.

I say thanks to FVP for bringing us
and our guest, Captain Munnerland,
together today.
What's going on, man?
Man, how y'all guys doing?
We are doing good.
We were supposed to listen.
In DBC, we are kind of known
as a bit of the shit show podcast
of the racing world.
And we are feeling right into that here
where you getting called
somehow into jury duty
when we're supposed to be doing this.
What are the chances, my man?
Man, I don't know how I get so lucky to get picked for jury doing.
You know, I don't know.
There's 42 people went into the courtroom,
and I was one in the 12 that got picked.
I can't believe it.
I still think it's read.
You've got to be read, right?
For those of you not familiar with Captain,
Captain, longtime quarterback for the Game Cox.
Man, about 10 years in the NFL,
over half of it with the Carolina Panthers in the local town.
I mean, got to go to your first race this week as a guest of FVP
yesterday. Talk about how your experience was, man.
Oh, man, it went great, man.
When I say when I met the guys, Jordan and the guys, man,
it was awesome, bro, to get them to talk to me about the racing,
how everything's begin and all the great things that go into it, man.
And the thing that stuck out for most of me was, man,
they'd be gone 33 weeks out of the year.
year. And I couldn't believe it. Like 33 weekends, I couldn't believe it, man. I'm sitting
like, you know, when I play ball, you know, we complain about, you know, the long season and
things like that. But to be gone 33 weekends out of the year is crazy. You know, those guys,
they put a lot of work into those cars, a lot of working time into the process is to get to those
guys on the track and things like that, man. It was very awesome just to get their experience.
You know, I got to watch it from top to bottom, and I couldn't believe I was amazed.
Yeah, for sure, you know, it was just, I'm assuming this is the first race you've been to.
Yes, yes, it was the first race I ever seen live in person.
And I stayed the whole entire time because I was so intrigued and so locked in.
And I couldn't believe it, man.
I'm sitting there like, wow, all these laps.
And it was just so, so intense, man.
And, you know, these guys to see the pit crew guys, you know, get the tires in and all.
and put the gas in the car, just to see the small details of work that they have to do,
man.
It was awesome, bro.
Like I said, I want to go back and back and back.
I wish I can travel 33 weeks.
We can get you set up.
You can come travel with me anytime you want.
We'll get up down the roofs and start calls to races.
You know, one of the things I think, so we actually, Bernard Pollard, during COVID,
became a huge fan of the sport.
We've had them on the podcast a couple times.
Oh, wow.
And one of the things that he stands out to him is like the access.
to the drivers.
Because I, like, I mean, you could walk up through a driver right before he climbs
to the car and take some pictures.
That's across the large series.
I mean, could you imagine doing that?
Like, do you think some fans would be good on the field for pregame?
Man, listen, that'll be crazy.
You know, fans be right there pregame and things like that.
I actually got their experience yesterday with Blaine.
You know, I got a chance to, you know, they sound the national anthem and all that.
And I got a chance to really stand by him.
He's like, man, come over here.
So I stood by them and things like that.
I thought there was a pretty cool moment.
I hope they got pictures because I want that picture.
Just to see how the guys operate, man,
and, you know, how these seats are just made for their body.
You know, I learned a lot.
Just to know about the seats, how he'd get in the seats
and it just made for his body.
I know it's a very dangerous sport.
You know, I've seen Jordan show me some videos, you know,
what happened to him and things like that.
And I was saying, like, wow, you know,
for him to still be, you know, into the sport like he is.
It's definitely a blessing just to see.
man. He said he still got that itch. So I feel the same way when it comes to me in my second life
in the sport, man. I'm coaching now. So, you know, I still have that it's, I had to do something with it.
Yeah, Jordan's got maybe one of the most viral videos ever of him trying to climb out of that thing
while it's on fire. On fire, man. He showed me everything, man. And I was sitting, I just looked at him like,
man, you truly, you know, you meant to be here. And they're definitely a blessing for you still to be in the
sport. I know you mentioned earlier a little bit of talking about Carson Brown.
jumped in the car, no practice, no nothing, goes up there and finishes in fifth place last night.
How crazy was that to watch?
The most impressive thing I ever seen from an 18 year old.
I know he's probably got some driving experience, but for him to come to a track that he's not used to,
that he didn't get no practice run because of the weather and finished fifth, I was impressed.
Yeah, he actually went and won one of the biggest races in the country the day before, too.
He was a lower series, but he went and kind of showed up somewhere else and kicked everybody.
everybody's ass there too.
Man, listen, that is crazy.
That's like, I was telling the guys,
I was like, man, that's like me going all week with no practice,
you know, with no cleats on,
just over there with tennis shoes and saying,
okay, on Sunday, I'm going to go perform at a very high level.
That is tough to do.
And he definitely did that, man.
He definitely gained a fan to me.
I'm always going to have my eyes on him now.
And I think he might be the future of the sport, man.
Of the day that at 18.
Yeah.
And with no practice, he definitely, he got a bright future.
Yeah, he's got a bright future.
He's going to move up to one of the top teams next year
and have a really good shot at turning a lot of heads.
I know you got to see just about every damn job we got going on.
Did you have any circled pit crew guys?
I mean, you probably, you might have known some of the guys
that were out there doing some of the pit stops.
Because there are a lot of old, you know, football players and college sports players.
But did you have a job you saw that you might want to give a shot one day?
I think it would be changing the tires.
You know, they told me to take like 14 seconds, you know,
if he really be good at it, to change the time.
I think I would love to do that because I'm a competitive guy.
You know, I feel like if you tell me you can tie your shoe fast to me,
I'm going to try to beat you in that, right?
So I'm a guy who's definitely competitive like that.
So I would definitely say changing the tires and try to see if I can get it under 14 seconds.
You know, I know 14 is blazing, but I'm a competitive guy.
So I think I would love to try to do that.
Yeah, I feel like so Michael Jordan is my team owner on the Cup series side.
And that's what he leans all his, like it feels like everybody that comes in from competition side of
like sports.
They all look at that and they're like,
oh, that's what I want to look.
You know, that's what I want to lock in on is how fast these guys can run
around the car and get in, you know,
getting in position to change tires.
And it's,
it's really impressive what these guys are able to do.
Man, it's just,
like I said,
it was an awesome sight to see.
Man, awesome sight to see that some of these guys is just how quickly and how fast
they can change those tires,
how quickly all the guys on the same page.
Yeah, I know it takes a whole lot of practice,
but at the same time, man,
that it was just a great sight to see.
And just to finish up,
Can we ever get you in one of these things for a ride-along?
I don't know if I want to get in the car yet.
I know Blaine said, Blaine had a joke for me.
He was like, yo, we get you a two-seater.
You can do it with me.
I'm like, I'm not ready for that.
You know, to see how fast those cars are going and I'm in the laps.
And, you know, I had to ask, man.
I was like, man, so if you have to use the restroom, what you got to do?
He said, got to go on yourself.
I said, oh, you know.
Yeah, just go.
And I talked to the guys about, like, hydration and things like that, man,
how they got to stay hydrated and they do a lot of core work and cardio so they can be, you know,
well fit to go.
Yeah, man, we appreciate you jumping on here with us.
We appreciate FVP Parts for bringing you out to the racetrack, man.
We hope we get to see some more of you.
Yes, sir, man.
Thanks for having me.
I'm sure I'll see y'all guys soon, man.
I definitely want to come back.
Excellent, man.

Coming up next, I don't curse, so I can't say the...
You don't curse?
I don't curse.
Welcome to the shit show Hall of Fame.
There you go.
There you go.
Thanks, Freddie.
So a big thank you to Flo for providing us with footage to react to.
You can watch all of these and say 15% on your subscription by using the link, flowsports.

I think the biggest shit show that I just learned is you deal with us and edit this show and you don't curse.
Yeah.
Is it, I mean, do we offend you when we curse?
Every week.
Not at all. Not at all. It's just a personal choice. Yeah, it's fun. It's fun.
What do you say instead of shit?
I guess crap.
Okay. Listen, I spotted for a guy that wouldn't curse, and it was impossible.
Like, I was like Trevor. So I had Trevor.
And at a time that Harvick decided he needed to wreck us all to get into chase or advance
the next round, whatever it was, at Talladega. I told Trevor was coming. He wrecked us all.
And then Trevor's like, gosh, dang it. Freddie, why do you do that?
And I'm like, man, I don't know if I could spot for a guy that's just not MFing this guy right now.
The funny thing when we talk about this segment up the hill, I'll go like, yeah, for Hall of Fame.
And people are like, what Hall of Fame?
What are we?
Like, we don't have a Hall of Fame.
I'm like, no, for the, anyway.
The S show.
The S one with the stuff.
The crap show.
The crap shoot.
Yeah, exactly.
Anyway, we have to play into this a little bit.
So again, this was a massive wreck.
The high limit race out at Lakeside Speedway.
It looked to me like somebody got ran in the fence down the front stretch and it triggered a,
big one. There's just cars
flying through the air.
Everybody was okay as far as I know.
But yeah, Rico right there
got collected in it.
You know, that was, I mean, I think it was
it started around mid-packed there with Ritzel
and somebody else looked like they kind of
squeezing the fence and then. You got
the seven squeezed. I don't think
the seven did it? No, go back.
But you can't see it. The other angle
I saw, I think Tyler was clear.
Yeah, this angle. I don't think he
I think Larts.
That way up was his 13.
It wasn't the 7.
The 7 hit his left rear watch.
I packed it up again.
I backed it up.
Boop.
I didn't see any contact.
I saw the 13 running to his left front.
Let's watch it from this way.
You're not going to see this.
Oh, it's not on there.
Yeah, 7 never touches him, Tom.
Get yourself some better glasses.
Are we on the leopard print ones?
Are we?
Yeah, we still.
These are getting scratched.
We always know when Tommy's on his last set of glass.
He goes to the Walgreens and buys a three-pack.
They sneak the leopard.
When he has the leopard ones on, I know he lost the first two pairs.
But yeah, that was a big one.
Thankfully, everybody was okay.
All right.
This next one, we had...
Oh, I didn't see this one.
Ricky Bolton sent it in a little too hard.
Ricky Bolton.
Oh!
We lost the trunk.
The truck flapped open.
Did we not have a pitcher of the guy at Oswego?
The guy at Oswego is great.
We'll talk.
about it. We could post. I don't know if we can we show
the picture? Probably not
since we don't have photo crids, but it is a funny
thing to talk about. Oh, oh
oh, man, that sucks. That they just rolled right over.
I mean, you just, I'm outside.
How about the car on the right?
Just, that's all the body
style on it. I didn't see what kind of car was.
It looks like an old fair lane. There it is.
We had it. I'm ready of resin.
That's badass. That's badass.
You could have just done that. Yeah, just
sit there. That's awesome. All right.
This next one we have is another flip surprise.
Jason Brennan.
He takes a good little time.
Man, those are the ones that like kind of the abrupt stops are the ones that
is that a nine on the roof and 11 on the door?
Is that my imagination?
You're right.
Did I see that correctly?
He's incognito.
It was 11 until he hit the wall.
Oh, maybe it's an 11.
No, it's not.
He says it's keeping everybody on.
He must have got the roof.
Maybe it's 9-1-1.
That's who they got to get it.
Make sure he's all right.
That's interesting.
Yeah.
They had some big wrecks of the door.
That's an expensive one.
Yeah, there's shit flying everywhere.
Good Lord.
I had no idea that it said nine on the top.
That's hilarious.
All right, this last one is hilarious to me.
Oh, it's fireball.
Yep, that's all it is.
The leader.
Oh, oh, my, wow.
Stay in it.
Stay in it.
It goes out.
Oh.
Damn it, he could have probably right now.
What the hell kind of car is that?
I don't, I can't tell.
It's like, it's like a four cylinder with a street stock nose on it, it looks like.
Cost about 15 cents.
It looks like a left front.
He's got a donut on the left tire.
So I'll tell you guys.
Hopefully he didn't get burned.
Somebody sent me this clip from Oswego was a big Super Dirt Week this week.
And they're telling me that the guy that's in this picture that's coming up here,
I think Dalton can share it or not going to show it to you.
But he flipped over his last race.
So as a joke for Super Dirt Week, he said, you know what?
do we're going to put the wrap on the car upside down, you know, to kind of make fun of myself.
And guess what happened at the Super Dirt Week?
I don't have it.
He went upside down and the wrap was right side up.
It's actually pretty funny.
A real picture because if you look it up, I'll share it on my social media.
But the car is upside down, wheels up, and the wrap is perfect.
You know, everything, not just the numbers, it's the whole car is wrapped upside down.
What are any thing is going to happen?
Yeah, I mean, you know what's going to happen.
Super dirt week, another exciting finish.
Yeah, yeah, we'll get to that in the weekend winners.
I'm sure.
There you go.
There he is.
God, oh, my.
I mean, even the stuff on the quarter panels.
It's the 54 car.
I don't have his name.
I don't know if it was in the text they sent me.
But shout out to him because, let me make sure I got it.
That was well anticipated and good play.
Yeah.
He saw that coming.
Good planning.
Back to back weeks, only one of them.
He had a good rap on there for it.
Hey, and while all that was going on,
and we were asleep on Saturday night in Australia,
it was the Bathurst 1000,
where SVG came from, one at multiple times.
Leda ran out of gas on the last lap.
That's got a sting.
Got a gut racing.
600 mile race.
Who was it?
A thousand Kays.
I think it was Anton D. Pasquale.
But Brody Kostecki, who's been over here,
Brody ended up winning for Dick Johnson racing,
and Dick Johnson came over here.
decades ago and raced.
And so, and that's the team that Penske was in partnership with,
used to be DJR team.
Interestingly enough, I've been hearing an Australian driver's name
mentioned a heck of a lot around that six car for next year.
It'd be interesting to see, it's not SVG.
He's not from Australia.
I think he's from Australia.
He runs Australian supercars.
But yeah, I've heard that name mentioned a little bit.
So it would be interesting to see how that plays out.
All right.
If you find one of these out in the wild, tag us or send it our way on social media so we can laugh along with you.
Hi, guys.
We're going to do a little giveaway here for the old JRM fan gift shop over here.
We have these really cool.
We have four of these, really cool little die cast sets signed by Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott, Dale Jr.
And Justin Allgaier.
So we're going to draw four names out of this little tumbler wheel here.
I don't know.
I got to make sure Dalton gave me the right key.
Evan's going to yell at me for moving, but I have to make.
move to get this thing unlocked.
So it's fine.
Hold on.
I'll be right back.
So let's see here.
We will,
uh,
God dang.
Pull it closer.
I can't pull it closer.
It's going to screw up Evan's other shot.
Evan,
fix the shot.
This was poorly,
poorly set up.
Hang on.
Let me just,
I'll be back.
I don't want to pull the one off the right off the top.
All right, here we go.
First winner is,
Tom Barbie is the winner.
He is from Burlston, Texas is the first winner.
I can give you his email address and phone number, if you like.
No, please don't.
We'll hold off on that for a moment.
We are.
I'm just going to shake these up this way.
This is a disaster.
Oh, you moved it.
All right, good.
This is how every DVC is reporting.
Yeah, just so you know, folks, this is how everything goes around here.
Now I can't get the thing open because the key's not in there.
All right, here we go.
We're going to pull a second name.
This is awesome.
All right.
We're just going to do it the old-fashioned way here.
I like that.
All right.
Okay.
Second winner.
So that was Tom Barbie was the first winner.
Second winner here is...
Oh, shouldn't do that.
Cut that out.
The second winner is...
Blake Sasser.
One of my favorite Mets was Mackie Sasser back in the day.
Blake is from...
Indian Trail, North Carolina.
So now far away from here.
He is the second winner.
Third winner, I won't show this one to the camera, so nobody comes to your house.
All right.
The second, third winner, we have Tyler Rogers, Tyler Rogers from, looks like Knoxville, Tennessee.
And the final winner for our really cool.
I mean, it's not a lot of places you can get Brad Keselasky, Chase Elliott, Dale Jr.,
and also Justin Allgaier are autographs in one place.
So this is a pretty cool gift.
we have of course we have one name that was a little difficult to read
Eric Broadmeyer I believe
he is from I don't know he didn't put the city and state where he lives
so don't know where Evan is from but congratulations to you guys
again really cool gift here
we had a little fun with that
I'll lock this back up before we make a mess
and Evan doesn't have to yell at me about moving out of this shot anymore
so thank you guys
we're going to send these to them I assume
yeah the J.R.M. gift shop's going to reach out to him
JRM gift shop will reach out to you guys. Congratulations.
Again, four cool cars with four really cool autographs.
So enjoy, guys.
It's a blast to do stuff like this for the gift shop.
And a lot of fun around here, Jayron, these days.
Hey, everybody, this is Dale Jr.
And for the latest DBC gear, go to shop.
Dot dirtymo Media.com.
We've added some new shirts.
There's one called Win or lose.
We're drinking booze.
Everything seems to be about drinking here at Dirtymo Media.
Go check it out now.
Ask DBC.
So where we ask the questions you've all been wanting the answers to.
First one is for Lee.
You gave Hosevar the nickname of Hurricane.
Do you have any nicknames or have you given any others out?
Yeah, I've given some others out over the years.
There was a guy, Max Angelelli, an Italian guy who used to racing Grand Am here in the States.
I called him the axe, Max the Axe.
And he ended up putting an axe on the side of his helmet and just because of his, you know, aggressive moves.
when I did world super bikes,
nicknamed a Japanese writer Nitro Nori.
His name was Nori Yuki Haga.
So there's been a few over the years here and there.
And as for me,
I have a lot of different nicknames.
Any you can share?
Well, Diff is the most, you know, common one, but stiffy.
I've had that one for years, so Stiffy Diffy.
I have another one called Crackers.
There's lots of different ones, but Diff is the most common one.
He's got a lot of street names.
So Steve LaTarck calls me the South African
just to stir the part about where I'm from.
Jeff calls me the Euro after the text from his nephew.
So yeah, just just diff is the regular one.
How'd you end up with the mayor?
Did anybody coin that?
Boyer.
Yeah.
Yeah, we had some sort of a, I don't know,
we were doing something and it was my 15,000 start or something.
and there was some media thing.
And Clint said,
oh, yeah, he's the mayor.
I heard him say it.
Like, he was talking over there.
I heard him say it.
And it just stuck.
You're like, oh, God.
No, I didn't know, but it just stuck.
Yeah, that's awesome.
For Jeff, for you from Michael on Twitter,
he wanted to know how visible are hand signals from one driver to another?
It depends on the situation.
You know, like it's, you know, we used to do a lot of this,
and you could really see it, but this car is way more difficult to see.
We showed a shot yesterday, a Lugano, that wreck happened, and, you know, Reddick goes up the racetrack,
and Lugano just slams in the back of the 54 car.
Ligano had no idea what's happening.
You know what I mean?
You just can't see through these cars.
But on the, like, back straight away, you know, you're pitting hand out the window.
That's pretty visible.
Number one.
Number one gets pretty visible.
That gets seen a lot.
I saw where, I think it was, it was on TV.
It was Cindrick, I think, got into the side of Redick early in the race.
and Reddick, I don't know how I put his hand up.
I'm assuming he can only see his fingertips, because he's long, his arms aren't very long.
So I don't know if he can see, you know, he don't know what finger it was.
He just, but yeah, we give Tyler's shit about, you know, like restarts.
Sometimes the drivers will tell, like, you know, they'll stick their hand out of the window and tell you to come on.
And we're like, Tyler, loosen your belts up so you can get your arm out there and tell us when to go.
But, yeah, but I think it's fun.
But I know Bubba.
Bubba and Shane, Bubba and Ryan, they are just flipping each other off or shocker or whatever the hell it is every time.
and then drive by each other.
It's something.
That's hilarious.
All right.
For both of our guests,
if you could go back
and relive one moment
from your careers,
what would it be?
You got first.
Lord,
you don't have to give me a minute.
I'm a forward guy.
I'm not a reverse guy.
I don't look at the back very often.
That's fair.
I would almost wonder
if it's not a shared one.
You know,
I mean,
Daytona.
No,
I wouldn't change that.
Oh,
change it.
I'm sorry.
I thought it was like,
just like more like relive.
He said relive it.
Oh, relive it.
That was really special for Steve and I to be the side of Jeff and to see his reaction.
I would like to have a do-over on that because we whiffed on our high five.
I'll take responsibility.
I'm a boss by shower.
We're all talking about Harrison winning the Daytona race.
Three years ago now, I guess it was.
Yeah, that was an awesome moment to listen to.
Yeah, I guess, you know, in the moment, I don't.
didn't do a very good job of celebrating and enjoying the moment. I was pretty much on to the next
thing. I went in Texas my first race. I remember standing in Victory Lane with Buddy Parrots saying,
buddy, we got to get hell out of there. We got tomorrow. We got, we got to be, you know,
telling him what we had to do. And because we had built that team. And, you know, I was involved in it
in a minute-to-minute basis. And I remember looking at Buddy, like, we got to go. Like, we got,
you know, you know, the plane's waiting on us, we got to go. And he's like, Jeff, you know, we're going to drink
some beer and raise some hell. And I'm like, no, we're not. We've got to go back to work.
And I wish I'd have done that differently. But, yeah, going back and reliving and have a second
chance to enjoy that, going, Ward won the Daytona 500. And I, it's so mindset, get home, get home,
didn't go to Victory Lane. You know, just stupid, you know, but, you know, things like that.
Just, you know, my personality is just, you know, all right, that's done. Let's go to the next thing.
And I didn't take time to enjoy some of those moments.
All right. Don't forget to leave.
questions for us on social media using the hashtag
Ask DBC to have a chance to get yours asked on the show.
All right, it is time for DBC picks.
Carson won.
She won.
Tommy, I'm going to need that little help here, buddy.
I mean, I'm trying to battle back, but I mean, you ain't done shit for me here recently.
What is my?
I need you.
I don't know.
You finished eighth.
I beat you.
That's fine.
You didn't beat her.
I need you to beat her so I can catch her.
Why don't you just beat her?
Then you can catch her.
I bet her the last three weeks.
I'm trying to put a bigger debt here.
Damn, a host of our let me down.
Ty Gibbs, the guest, who picked, who was here last week?
How's the guest done?
The guest, they're not doing well this year.
They won last year.
They're not, they're not...
Arson is just mopping this up.
Yeah.
Who was here last week?
Jeff Dickerson.
Dickerson, picked Ty Gibbs, put the whammy right on him.
All right, well, let's just go.
I'll go Austin Sindrick.
He's been on the attack lately.
He has been.
He's been going for it.
I mean, I know they, again, there were another one that had a couple of pick crew issues.
I kind of lost some track position that way, but,
he's been on it, man. I mean,
it's the whole chase, really. It's been
impressive.
My next.
You are.
I am going to take
I'll take
Joey Lugano. I'll take
Blaney. And every Penske car is
taken.
Mike came
Mike Fred is
grayed out? Yeah, where it's grayed out.
So Blaney's open? Oh, Tommy just
picked him. Tommy just took him. So Tommy still, and I
picked Lugano. Well, I got Hamlin then.
All right. That's a good pick.
That's a good pick.
I'll pick handling for her.
Yeah.
That's good.
Good.
We should have picked fucking, uh, I won't, I won't, I won't make fun of anybody.
I promise.
We should have picked somebody that we could beat, you know, like, oh, for her, for her.
But yeah.
She should have sabotaged.
Just sabotage right away.
She can't pick Bubba.
What?
Bubba's sprayed out.
She already picked Bubba, I think.
I know.
Asshole.
I'll curse for you.
There you go.
So with Captain joining us today and in late night,
we just didn't have a lot of time here to get the weekend winter call in done this week.
I really wanted to talk to Carson Brown,
who by the way, had a great run last night.
They must have had a set of stick.
Did they have a set of stickers left?
Because he blitzed through the field on that last 10-lap run.
Like I know all of us had come put tires on.
We had put scuffs on.
It looked to me like he had stickers because he drove.
from behind us, which was 16th, 17th, and I think he ended up in the top five.
And so he was, I mean, he was hauling ass at the end of that race.
Super talented race car driver.
He was 11th to 15th, most of the race.
Yeah.
I mean, he went up there, and that's really good for, you know, driving up, that one-off
the 32 car, which I don't think, did they even run that every week?
I think they, I mean, it seems like it runs a lot now, but I don't think they run every week.
But he went, he won the Winchester 400.
A race, I don't know if you're sure he was supposed to run because it was going to be, you know,
it was going to be, you know, with the way the rainouts worked out for him, perfect,
where he went and won that race, and he came back and ran really good at Charlotte.
Tommy, you mentioned earlier, Super Dirt Week, really good finish there.
I was kind of pulling for our buddy Buzz, but Darren Smith got by Matt Williamson and the
Buzz Chook car coming to the checker essentially, right?
I mean, he sailed it off into three that one time, and I was like,
if this thing sticks, it's going to be interesting.
And they kind of made a little contact off a Ford, knocked Matt out of shape.
And Darren Smith won the race.
He beat him to the line.
Jimmy Blewett, our buddy Jimmy Blewett
is not washed up after all. He won a Hunter Lapper at Wall Stadium.
What else modified happened this week?
James finished second. Yep, one, two, finish for James.
Teddy Hodgin won the modified tour.
Congratulations to Patrick Emlin, winning the championship.
Yep, yep, good for him.
John Kennedy won the tri-track race,
and it's leading the points going into, I think he's got two more races.
And then I think your buddy, Jeffrey Battle,
won the MRS modified race into 25.
Yeah, I actually don't know, I mean, I've known who he is through.
I've never met him.
I know he just beats the shit at a, I'm wearing Bobby Timmons shirt.
Jeffrey Battle kicks his ass every week.
But the, yeah, he won a 25 car, right?
That's Cassello's car.
Yeah, I saw that.
I saw Carson Lofton won, right, again.
Yeah, smart race.
How did the boys do?
Luke got there just in time, started last.
I was worried about when that red flag.
I'm like, ooh, this might kill Luke's chances.
third, start and last.
And then Jack finished 10th.
We struggled, man, all day.
I just could not find what he needed.
Crew chief issue?
Yeah.
I just couldn't.
Crew chief sucks.
That was a crew chief and your son?
It's fun.
Like it?
Yeah.
For him.
They hate it.
I'm scared.
It's a, it's a, it's, it's, it's, it's, I'd deal with two different race car drivers.
So it's, you know, with Luke and Jack.
So it's a little bit different.
different. I have to remember which one I'm talking to. But it's fun. You have to be adaptable and
flexible. Yeah. Yeah. Luke, I could be a little bit more aggressive with. Jack, I have to be a little bit
more just listen to him and figure out what needs to be done. But I could, I can go off on Luke.
I've seen him do it. No, I mean, I think, and people that know Tommy would be, I don't know if
surprise is the right word, but he's not as for.
fiery as you would think he is with and he can be i mean if some shit goes down probably but you know he is
kind of hands off like he's not i usually spot for luke i spot for jack both um and it's he's not like
yelling at me to do so he lets me do my job he does his job he lets the driver the kids do their job
driving the car um so like it's it's hard sometimes you know like to as a dad just kind of step away
and play that role where it's almost hands off you know it's tough to it's tough to let that go sometimes
but you got to let people do, you know, what they're getting paid to do.
Yeah, do your job let them do theirs.
And you'll make mistakes.
They'll make mistakes.
You'll do good things.
He'll do bad things.
He had a good running on Friday with the truck.
I mean, I thought he did really good.
I said, you know, it's nice.
I went down to Jason.
We had that red flag with whatever it was, a handful to go.
And I said, I haven't seen him at all.
So that's a good thing.
I've seen every time I look up, he's right around 18th-ish, you know.
I said, that's a good day for that truck.
I said, don't let him fucking up here.
Because, you know, knowing Luke as well as I know him, you know, it's easy to be
beginning when the truck's maybe not great and everything's kind of strung out and you're kind of
stuck back, you know, outside the top 20. It's easy to kind of settle in and just see.
But then once you start creeping a little bit closer, you get to 17th to 18th and you see
15th and 12th right there at your windshield is easy to start making those mistakes and start trying
to push a little too hard. And I thought he did a really good job of just taking what everything
gave him that night and coming home with a decent finish. Yeah, Josh, Josh Rehom has done a good job
here recently with him and the team. I was pretty critical of him on the show about a month
and a half ago and he really had a heart-to-heart talk of what was going on and he's really
taking the, Josh really taking the, you know, aggressive side of the business and what needs to be
done and got a really good bunch of guys there. I mean, just, he just, if you seen what they're
working with, I mean, beautiful shop, I mean, beautiful equipment. He just, he just short on the trucks
on the engineering side.
And for Luke to run right around top 20 every race,
like you said, when he got to the point
of running 16th to better, 15th passing cars,
he got himself trouble in the beginning of year.
But you're not seeing that now.
He's just seeing, you know, like your goal this year
is to run all the laps and learn.
Next year will be hopefully different, right?
Yeah.
Obviously, we'll have the scroll going.
I will remember to send the list this week.
Last week I got home at 5 a.m.
did all the show stuff.
Never got any sleep, went home,
got to send Dalton the list.
Dalton text me at like 3 o'clock.
He's like,
dummy, do you got the list?
I was like, yeah, about 5 o'clock when I woke up.
I said, yeah, show's already out.
I'm sorry about that.
Finishing up with that.
Aaron Reitzel won the high limited race on,
I think Friday night.
G.O. Selsie won Saturday night,
and Rico got Dekued for adding fuel,
I think during the race when he wasn't supposed to.
It seemed like reading up on a little bit.
So now they cut the lead to 45 points where we saw
Dickert Dickerson was here last week talking about
it was going to be an insurmountable gap.
It was not insurmountable anymore.
They've only got a handful of races left.
So that's going to be a pretty good battle coming down to it.
And then World of Allows, I saw Buddy, Coffoy won Thursday night.
And then Sheldon Hodgild won.
They were back in Ohio racing.
He won Mansfield and I think Sharon Blaney's track the rest of the weekend.
And Sheldon won both of those.
So a good weekend of racing.
And obviously everything's winding down.
So you got a little bit more big events.
I know Shang's got a big race this week.
Is that the race champions?
or Sunday night
A big race coming up there
Got the Cars Tour
Season finale
Cars Tour
Is that this weekend?
And the Smart Tour Championship
One's at South Boston
And one's at North Wilkesboro
I saw
What's going on at Wilkesboro?
Because I saw
Was there a test there last week?
I saw a lot of different kinds of race cars
So what's racing there this week?
I don't even know
There's a lot of stuff
I know the 602 modifies
Which they always put on a good show there
Which is a crate engine
modified
Small tires
And then the smart mods of racing.
I think there's...
I saw Bert driving like a mini stock.
Yeah, I think there's a mini stock.
So, I mean, that'll be fun to watch around Wilkesboro.
But yeah, so get out there or the...
I'll promote for cars tours since Carson's not here.
That's going to be a good advantage.
Just out, Jeff, South Boston.
A pretty cool spot, huh?
That's great racetrack.
One of nicest racetracks in the country.
They've got a great job keeping it up.
And there's always good racing.
Fans love the cars tour race there.
It'd be a good weekend.
Yeah, I think it's...
I like to see that...
them going back to South Boston,
feels like a late model track for me.
The cars,
you know,
I mean,
feels like that's like,
for me,
that's like the home of late model stocks
in the south.
It seems like,
just much as I like to see,
you know,
getting away from Martinsville
and going back to Thompson
for the season finale for the tour.
Like,
that just feels more natural to me.
You know,
that's instead of like a one-off track,
it's a place where those guys kind of grew up racing.
So I like to see that.
But yeah,
Lee,
what do you got going on this week?
Anything fun with getting ready for Phoenix?
Phoenix, yeah.
Yeah, well, my wife is coming with me for the first time to a cup weekend because it's our 20th wedding anniversary.
So we're going to stay after the race and head out to Sedona and have a few days, Varanah.
So really looking forward to that.
But it's been like it's gone like a blur.
Like when we, you know, Jeff did a couple of the races on Turner, the pre-race shows on Turner.
Steve obviously did with Junior did the prime races and then the Turner races.
and I was doing, you know, Imsa and track and field and different things.
And then we all came in, we all kind of like funnel in.
And I had a 16 week stint where I did track and field, then Imsa,
and then the 14 NASCAR races.
And now we only have four cup races left.
So it's kind of gone by in a blur, but it's been, to me,
that means it's great because it's been entertaining.
It hasn't felt like, like you, I mean, it never really feels like work because we love it
so much.
But when the stories have been as compelling and as enjoyable as they have been,
it kind of goes by even, even,
faster. But, you know, the boy, I've got two sons. They're back at school. They're back
full on into sport. They're back into their routines. Our eldest sons looking at colleges to
head off to college next year. So life is busy midweek between the broadcast. So there's always
plenty going on in the Diffy household. The question, I want to ask you guys this, because it's a different,
we've gotten some drivers and owners since sitting here. But the change from the playoff
structure to the chase structure, has it made it more exciting for you guys? I feel like the racing's
been better because we keep harping on the fact that you can't take a lap off if you win a race.
You know, the next two races matter just as much as they did now, the more so the last year
because you already transferred. Like, do you guys feel that in the races like in the booth?
So look, the races were good on the old format too. You know what I mean? I do, you know,
I think the change was the right thing to do because, you know, when you start hearing competitors
and fans talk about, you know, one race shouldn't determine a champion. And, you know, when,
competitors start talking about it,
you know,
it doesn't mean as much as it used to.
That's a problem, right?
And so getting that feel back to where it does matter.
And I think universally,
most people, you know,
feel like this was the right way to go.
But, you know, the race has been really good this year.
It was really good last year.
You know, the quality of racing was really good.
I do like the intensity of no breaks, no time off.
And I do like the fact that you set,
because of so many races, the best at the time separate themselves.
And so we end up focusing on the people that are the best
and not necessarily focusing on who isn't going to make the next round,
that type of stuff.
But, you know, at both formats, the quality of racing,
the quality race has been hot.
But the more stressful it is for the competitors,
the more fun it is for us as fans.
I don't care what sport it is.
You know, the more stressful it is, the better it is for us.
So, yeah, I think, but the quality racing, I think,
has been pretty good under both.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to cut your off your head.
No, it's just going to say drives it to a positive, to Jeff's point.
It drives it more to a positive standpoint because multiple drivers along these ways
have felt like and said like, I've still got a chance.
Case in point is Chase Briscoe has gone from eighth to fourth, right?
Those two wins have done and that win bonus and the stage points, they mean a lot.
So we're focused on who is doing great.
or who is climbing rather than saying, Tommy, you're out.
You got cut from this one.
So we don't have to talk about that negativity.
It's going to happen mathematically anyway,
but we don't have to drive it to a negative place.
It drives itself to a more positive place.
And I know you spend time talking to the crew chiefs,
talking to drivers before the weekend starts.
Do you feel that intensity from them of, you know,
you're talking about Priscoe before the race of,
I have to attack here?
Like, can you feel a little more ramped up this year than last?
I think so.
I think so.
I mean, you would feel that at the,
those cutoff races, but now you're feeling it more than just those points, you know.
Well, let's take Briscoe, for example.
So if we were in last year's system, he would be talking about the next round.
Yeah.
You know, he would be onto the next round, right?
And he'd be locked in.
No, there's five.
Well, yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, but like, yeah, to your point, he'd be, like, worried about whatever's going to happen,
three races from now.
That's right.
And so you have a championship contender that would be.
well, the next few races don't matter.
And that's not great.
And Chase Briscoe is paying for the lack of better finishes, right?
Even though he's had wins, he's paying for the fact that he did not have the consistency that he needed.
And he's got to still overcome that.
He's still paying for the beginning of the year, right?
Exactly.
Yeah.
Beginning of the year and the beginning of the chase.
And for years, and for the last, whatever it is, 10 years or so when we got to the playoffs,
we talked about Vegas being the second biggest race of the season, you know, in years past,
it was the fourth race from the end.
So whoever won Vegas was locked into Phoenix.
You know, now, you know, that guy could literally not even, he didn't even have to, he
didn't care if he went to Talladega and Martin's Ville or whatever the two races were because
he already knew when he got to Phoenix, he was locked in.
They could just focus all the reference on Phoenix to be as good as they could now.
Whoever wins this week doesn't matter.
They got to show up again the next three weeks after that.
So I think it's, I think it's just a positive all around.
The cutoff races were intense.
They were, and they did create some moments, some pretty big moments.
They really did.
But overall, I just, our fan base isn't, you know, the one thing our sport made a mistake on is thinking that our sport needs to look like other sports.
Our fan base doesn't care.
They don't care that it looks like those.
They don't.
They prefer to be their, yeah, yeah, they wanted to be its own.
They want to own it.
They want it to be its own entity.
They don't want a connection.
and those exciting moments, they were exciting, and they were real, and they weren't made up,
because the competitors, no matter what the point system is, it's the same for everybody.
And the competitors have to find a way to take advantage of it.
So those were moments that were organic, they happened.
The point system helped create them for sure.
But somebody's going to championship, somebody's going to lose them.
But overall, it just feels more, the whole year has felt more natural.
Race.
Yeah, natural.
Natural is a good word.
Traditional almost.
So Tommy, are you going?
Where are you going?
You're going to South Boston?
I'm going to South Boston.
Luke,
and I was going to go to...
Jack's running.
Yeah, I was going to go to race of champions drive all night, but
Jack's short on people, so I'm the tire guy.
There you go.
That's perfect.
Hey, do you forget your glasses because you put them on your hat?
No, I just forget my glasses.
It's old.
It's got a birthday coming up.
Speaking of that, we can touch on that real quick.
We are doing Jail and Bail again.
I'll have to get the website.
I shared it on my socials last week.
Go look it up.
It's an awesome event for Breanne Davis.
Raises a bunch of money.
We raised over $150,000 last year.
Essentially, we lock up a bunch of race car drivers in jail and they got to raise their bail money.
Larry McReynolds was the judge last year.
I'm not sure who the judge is this year.
It's mine, Tommy job to get their bail as high as possible to remind Larry of all the dumb shit this driver is done.
Larry sets the bail last year with some guys for $5,000, some guys for $10,000.
They got to get locked in a cell until they can get on the phone and raise.
raise that money to let them out. So it's an awesome event. We get around, have fun.
Plenty of race car drivers there this year. Last year there's going to be more this year.
A bunch. Tommy and I will be Tommy I and Tommy I will be the lawyers again. I don't know. Do we know who the judge is? I know they were,
they were hints at maybe a high ranking. No, I kind of, I think I got, I think I know who it is.
There is a meeting. There is a meeting last week that we didn't make. There's a high ranking old school NASCAR
official, I believe. He's not, no, not an official. Well, not an official. Well, not an official.
Well, very high ranking NASCAR executive. That's going to be the judge.
That's going to be the judge. Do you have a name for this pseudo law firm?
He should make one up. Dubber and dumbest, probably would be a good one.
He raised how much last year? Over 150,000 last year. It's just a fun time. And then we,
I think we ended up locking Larry up and making him raise money. So it was just, it gets a little
off the rails. And it's a good night. It's a boatyard eats or boatyard Lake Norman,
whatever it's called now right here in
Cornelius, I think it is.
I'll share the website on my
socials to buy your tickets. I think it's $25
to get in ahead of time. It's just
a fun night with a lot of great people
and for a good call. So come out. As smart as all
the crew chiefs are today, you would think they like
watch Larson up.
Make his bill really high.
Take his phone away from him. The first
one was really funny because I think
originally we weren't part of it. I think Tommy was.
But people kept paying to put Tony
back in jail, right? Tony, Tony,
Tony Stewart would bail himself out and then somebody would raise money to put him back in.
So it was a, I mean, it's just a really fun night.
We have a lot of laughs and there's alcohol involved.
So it gets a little out of hand.
But yeah, it's a fun night.
So grab your tickets.
I'll share the link and come out and see us that night.
It would be fun.
Gentlemen, thank you again for joining us.
Lee, I like this.
We got you a nice spot here.
Charlotte weekend every year and whatever.
Once he is.
If it's roval or oval, we're going to make you come in here.
And Jeff, you're always welcome.
We'd love to have you as well.
well, thank you guys for joining us.
Thanks for having us.
Carson, feel better.
Yeah, yeah.
Hopefully she didn't get the rest of us sick.
I saw her a little bit through a place.
She's not a better place, I don't think yet.
Hopefully she's going to hang on for a while.
But thank you guys for joining us.
We'll be back after Phoenix.
We have, I think we got a Hall of Famer again next week.
Another Hall of Famer.
Yeah, I mean, we're just been here before.
We have a Hall of Famer next week that's never been here before.
So that'll be fun.
So exciting. Tommy, you may this.
happened, I think, a couple months ago, you called him and said, you got to get in here.
And he called last week or a couple weeks ago and said, I need to get in there.
And I said, whatever you want.
I said, funny enough, we're going to clear the schedule, buddy.
So whenever you want to come in, we'll adjust it around you.
So he'll be here next week.
I won't give it away.
Yeah, we'll tease it for a little week.
But thank you guys for listening.
