Door Bumper Clear - Kenny Wallace Wants Fans To Quit B****ing
Episode Date: May 18, 2026The always wound-up Kenny Wallace is in studio today with a laugh that can be heard from zip codes away. That’s right, DBC is back in studio on Monday after one of the most unique ‘All-Star’ rac...es NASCAR has ever seen – and Chase Elliott did not. Kenny gives his honest thoughts on the state of NASCAR, the problems they face, and how COVID changed a lot for the sport. The gang dives into Natalie Decker’s viral radio clip, Kyle Busch’s very suggestive 69th win, and how Rajah Caruth can make it up to Jesse Love after some hard racing in Dover. Plus, the great NASCAR Hall of Fame debate takes up a good chunk of the show, as the gang debates who belongs in The Hall. Want more DBC? Check out and subscribe to the new DBC YouTube channel! The following is a production of Dirty Mo Media.
What if we left all the spotters out of everything?
That's a terrible idea.
What page are we on?
Why you cursed that?
This is why I'm just you cursing to me.
I think he's a whiny.
That's what I think.
Next thing you know, I got no fire suit on.
Routy Nation fans are getting lucky tonight.
Hey, what's up everybody?
Welcome to Door Bumper Clear.
I'm Freddie Craft.
Spotted for Bubba Wallace.
Dean Thompson, Gio Ruggiero.
this week. I got a feeling this may be a long
episode, but we'll see.
Tommy, how are you today? I'm doing good.
Tommy, you had an up and down day yesterday.
I think. I mean, I thought for a little bit
you were going to be sliding in the All-Star race.
I know. We were about to
pull that some bitch in, put it
behind the trail. I'm like, no, we are not quitting.
We are going to try to fix this
fucking thing. Pull it in. Make
a big adjustment. Go back out. I don't care.
How many laps were down the first 75?
And they kept coming in, coming in.
Finally, at the end of the first stage day,
made a big adjustment start.
Cody was like,
it's a whole completely different race car.
I'm like,
all right,
we're back.
Next thing you know,
we're like fighting within one car
of getting in.
I'm like,
all right,
let's see what happens.
It was something.
Carson,
how are you today?
Definitely a chill weekend for me
compared to you guys.
I don't know.
I came in here.
I heard some stuff about Snapchat.
I mean,
what's going on?
I get in trouble.
I debuted my hot girls
eat Arby's hat
at the pool yesterday.
What I was up to.
And our guest,
this week. We've been waiting for them.
We've been talking about this for a while.
Is he a guest? I don't even know. He works kind of for Dirty Moe,
so I don't even consider him a guest.
Co-worker, if you love.
Co-worker, if you will.
We've been waiting to do this for a while, but I wanted to make sure he was in studio
because we're going to have way more fun with him here.
Kenny Wallace, welcome to door bumper clear, my friend.
Thank you, Freddie. And by the way, everybody,
he's to blame for this.
Freddie texted me and said, Herman, can you be on the show?
But we bonded in Texas.
Yeah.
And we looked to each other eye and I'm like,
okay, we like each other.
Oh, that's the first time you met him?
Yeah, probably first time, yeah, we've ever met.
Yes, Cota.
Yeah, like, yeah, well, yeah, month, yeah, TXA, Cota.
Yeah, so, like, third race of the year, whatever it was.
For real?
Yeah, I like him because he's off-centered like me.
Our guest last week had a bunch of things on his shoulder.
This motherfucker has way more.
Kenny, this year, we talked about this in Cota a little bit.
Kind of back from full-time racing, right?
Are you doing more of a fun schedule for yourself this year, I feel like?
Yeah, only 80.
I feel like when I say comeback full, you're not running for points anywhere, I should say,
but you race damn near every week anyway, don't you?
Freddie, you're correct.
I put out a press release last year.
You know, I'm the one that started that.
I put out fake press releases.
I get on Facebook and I go, all capital letters, press release.
And I write my own press release, you know.
You saw what you just need to know what's up.
But, no, I did.
I had a good year last year.
You know, we're all local racers, all of us, right?
I mean, you're in New York.
Where did you grow up racing?
Same with Tommy.
Yeah, right.
Right.
And so local racing is a big deal because, you know, it's like Dale Sr. said to me,
obviously, years ago, he said, Herman, there's thousands of great race car drivers all over America.
And, boy, I mean, some of the guys that I race, you're like, you know, just a break here or there,
they could have been in NASCAR.
So I race those guys every weekend.
We had a really good last year.
But, man, it was hard on me.
You know, a couple championships, a lot of wins.
but you pay the price, you know, and I'm pushing 63 now.
So I put my press release out that, okay, my plate is full.
I'm going to race, but maybe twice a month.
Then the ADHD, HD, HD, yep, kicked in.
What are we doing this week?
Yeah, exactly.
I'm not staying home.
My wife is like, when I'm going to the casino Thursday night,
and I'm like, when I'm going racing, next.
So, yeah, that's the story.
Yeah, I mean, you went racing this week.
You had a hell of a record.
So, you know, these cars are so rare.
I think Johnny Benson in my world kind of made them famous up around, you know, northern Michigan, northern Wisconsin.
They are high-end downforce wedge.
It look like a doorstop.
But they're pretty.
God, they're so awesome.
They're probably the ultimate race car.
We're running good, and there's a lot to it, but I got hooked.
guys trying me on the outside.
He can't get on my outside so he goes to get back in line
and his left front grabs my right rear.
And man, I didn't think you could hit that hard in like a 700 gear.
It's like that small of the track.
But man, I hit hard.
And then they just kept coming.
Yeah, Tommy, I told you the Hans made a mark on me.
Yeah.
And you said what?
You probably, the belts weren't aligned properly or you didn't have the right belt.
So sometimes when the belts come off the back of the seat at a wrong angle,
if they're not at like four degrees off the back bar,
and they're a different angle, they stretch.
So that's what, then your body moves more in it, and that's what happens.
I am telling you, when you wreck, sometimes it's like this slow mo, it's like, I'm wrecking, oh.
Yeah, everything was moving then.
Yeah, and I thought, God, it was a hard hit.
And then this guy, he's flipping over me, Freddie.
Jesus.
And so then I'm like, my car is kind of smoking.
And I'm like, I'm getting out quick.
And then I go in now, I feel so bad, you know, and I, you know, I'm staying out of the way.
And this guy is like Carson, Hosevar height, like six, four.
He can't get out.
He's panicking.
He finally gets out.
And now I see why he's panicking.
There's motor oil draining down his face.
I mean, it's shit's right out of the movies.
You know what I mean?
And it all calmed down.
So fast forward, I drive another six hours back home.
And I run fifth on six.
Saturday night. No drama. No drama. And this weekend was not on that press release schedule.
This was added in later. How much, I mean, I'm assuming you get to watch the majority of the stuff we're doing, Cup, right?
You get to watch throughout the weekend. I know you're racing at times, but like, you know, what do you think the state of the sports is right now?
Man, great question. Hold on. I got to show you why. I figured you might ask this. So, you know, what I do is I go to my, I mean,
Make myself notes like we all do.
And we're really lucky in this day and time because X, although it's a shit show, X is horrible.
But man, every network puts everything there.
So you see it all.
And I work hard at staying totally in the game, you know, as hard as I can.
So here's my speech.
I really feel like NASCAR is in a conundrum.
In other words, you know, our world has changed so much.
There was something I saw on Instagram.
102-year-old lady.
You're 102.
What has changed since the time you were born?
She said everything.
Literally everything.
Everything has changed.
And so when you look at NASCAR in the All-Star race, it's like, you know, Carson, you're a baby.
But when we pulled into the Charlotte Motor Speedway, you had to leave six hours early.
There was 200,000 people.
You couldn't get in.
And that's where the RVs came from.
You had to have an RV because if you tried to.
go outside the track, you weren't going to get back in.
You know, Dale Sr. and, you know, Felix Sabatis, you had Rat Lane driving Felix's
RV, and, like, everybody's got to get RVs because that's how high the sport was.
And now the sport has fallen some 60 to 70 percent.
Those are real figures.
And so there are so many people in our era right now that are judging from those days.
Like that crowd yesterday, that was a hell of a crowd.
Yeah, that was a good career.
Really good crowd.
For this era.
I want to thank the fans for that because if there wasn't,
it might have given the higher-ups an excuse to think a little bit different about Dover.
So whatever happens from, you know, this point forward, we better thank the fans.
And that's what I had been doing.
Like I did a video, the overdrive video back whenever they announced the format.
And I talked about this last year when the schedule came out.
When you saw this race on the schedule, it was like, I know this is not ideal.
I know this is not what you guys don't want to go watch a no points race.
You know, you don't want to watch an All-Star event
who had a questionable format that we'll get to here in a little bit.
But we need you to show up.
You know, you need to still, if you love this race track as much as the rest of us do,
I mean, Kenny, you were spending years there running.
Tommy, that's kind of a home track for us.
It's one of the closest ones of where we grew up.
You know, that's a place we need to keep going to.
And luckily, I think yesterday they said during the broadcast
that they're committed to coming back at least next year and for years to come.
We need to go to places like that.
I mean, at least once a year.
I mean, we need that.
that area. We need the one Pocono, the one New Hampshire, the one Dover. There's too many
Fortune 500 companies in that area. There's too many, too many fans, right? It's just,
did it get a little diluted, start getting a little deluded when we all, look, COVID changed
a lot of things, right? It changed a lot of people's way of thinking on what to do, how to do,
go about life, and it, when we had those racetracks that weren't like premier, old-style,
Martinsville, so to speak, or Daytona's, that was still doing it two times a year.
It changed, right?
It's just people didn't, ah, man, I don't really.
Because to your point, Kenny, fans used to start showing up on Mondays and Tuesdays at these races, you know?
We have, and so to kind of wrap that up, and this is sad to say, it really is, but we have so many old fans that are bitching and moaning that we're not like back in the old day.
And what do they mean by that?
You know, Dale, Seniors are not here anymore.
Rusty's not running.
Gordon's, I mean, our superstars are gone.
Then we got to accept our new life.
And they're so negative.
Oh, my God.
Everybody hates everybody and everything.
And here I am just happy to be born.
So my life is so different from everybody else's life.
And I turned to race on her.
I'm scrolling on X.
And I'm like, damn, look at that crowd.
And you know, the first thing I read is just lines and lines of,
oh, that's nothing like it used to be.
And they just bitch and moan from Thursday.
years ago, it's like people.
Nothing is like it used to be.
Yeah.
102 year old lady, Carson.
Look at a major league baseball stadium
these days and tell me how they're doing.
Like, it's empty. And how much do you think,
I've talked about this on here before,
I feel like them older fans, the
fact that we don't have
the black number three every week or
Rusty's black and gold number two every week.
And Mark Martin's red white and blue, you know,
I felt like it, like, have we become just
less identifiable? Like,
you don't relate, you know, there's nobody.
I don't think anybody runs the same paint scheme every week.
You know, I remember the All-Star race used to be great
because that was the one race where you'd have a different pain scheme.
Now we do it every week.
Do you think that's where people lose some of that connection with their drivers?
And like that, you look at that black number three.
You know that's Daler and Art.
Oh, 100%.
Yeah, and I'm going to use his name because I know he won't mind.
Ed Lauchas.
You know, Toyota was good to me.
They're a great company.
And I've been a lot of their plants.
You know, they love working at Toyota plants.
They really do.
But Ed Laocas, who was in charge of motors.
sports. Never forget, he looked at me right now. He goes, he says, boy, these different
paint schemes are going to ruin NASCAR. And I said, keep going. He says, well, everything's
identifiable. Like you just said, you know, the black number three. I mean, there were times
we didn't even say the name, Ernard, it was just the black three. You could literally,
and nowadays, you could go hashtag black three. I mean, that's how, I mean, it was on.
Right.
Yeah, so now every single week, you know, it's like you're looking for your car.
So, yes, we've lost the identity.
But, you know, you mentioned something about COVID.
COVID cleaned things up so much.
You mean to tell me as a driver I can show up here at Darlington and sit in my car with my
fire suit on and I can go straight to my car, my race car, and we can drop the green flag
and everything's fine, that destroyed us.
Because it used to be man and machine,
oh, my car's not handling it.
Hey, Tommy ball, and I'm loose getting in.
Well, next practice session, we'll get it.
Fans were showing up early.
There were stuff in the midway.
You had action.
There's too much access to everything as well.
Back in a day, the only access there was was to get to the track
and do everything, right?
It has all these, you know, TV stuff starts happening and promoting and getting people.
It's easier for them to just have a really good day somewhere else and then sit down and watch the race for three hours or local short track for an hour and go about.
Me and Freddie sat there Saturday night.
We watched the Seekong to Modified Tour Race.
It was 55 minutes, right?
We were done.
All right.
We'll see later.
Yeah.
I mean, it was just like we didn't have to know.
Back in the day, we probably would have been stupid.
enough got in our car and drove all the way up to Seacconc and went and watched the race, right?
But now we just sat there.
I think I had a beer and a half.
The race was over.
I was gone.
You didn't cop a bus.
No, I was gone.
Assholes ruined our night.
Yeah.
But, you know, flow and dirt vision are just phenomenal.
I love it.
But it's just, it's like, it's kind of like at the point now, it's, it's, they're here, right?
Yeah.
And there's nobody here.
It's just, it's a tough one.
In ending, Freddie, nothing's never going to be the same.
And, you know, like I said, I love Tony, Stuart.
I love him.
When I say I love somebody, it means he's really good to me.
Yeah.
Every time Tony sees me, he's like, you know what we got in common, Herman?
I'm like, what's that, Tony?
He says, dirt racing.
You know, he's pleasant.
Yeah.
But I know he's a gangster.
Now, Mark Martin's same thing.
I'm ending, by the way, here.
Oh, you're good.
I can go on as long as you want.
Mark Martin, I mean, shocks me, rolls up my driveway in his, you know, motor coach.
Clean as a whistle, I bet.
Oh, man.
He said to me, he said, now, Herman, I need 30 minutes because the assicity of these bugs.
Oh, he's whack.
Get into my $1 million paint job.
I'm like, I'm going to leave you alone, Mark.
Clean your motorhome.
But he's right.
Because then bugs got acid in them, like, and they destroy your paint job.
So anyway, Mark rolls up.
I'm like, okay, Mark, we don't hate each other, but you hate the point system.
So when we were all done, Carson, you know, just going to town how much we hate this point system.
In the end, I said, okay, look, you know once you fix the point system, it's going to be something else.
Every time? Yeah. Yeah. It ain't the points. Yeah.
It's the sport of talking shit 24-7. Hey, what did you do today? I told them, son of it.
it's a sport.
People love to talk negative.
And it's just a sport.
I said there ought to be a, well, we got X.
Yeah.
So does it make sense what I just said?
It's a faceless, you know, you don't, you can say whatever you want.
There's no repercussions.
You know, that's the problem.
Back in the day, you can say something really stupid.
You probably get punched in the face for it.
Now you just type it in and you shut your computer and then let the world go burn for a little while.
So NASCAR is in a conundrum.
I literally feel sorry for them.
I do for a lot of reasons.
But it's exhausting.
They're trying.
Now, they listen, they're bad guys.
They've made a lot of mistakes.
You know, I just threw that in there for a disclaimer.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey, Wallace, you kiss her NASCAR's ass.
You know, that's okay.
Call you Kenny and NASCAR.
Kenny France.
Kenny France.
Kenny France.
But in the end, what else you want them to do?
They just try, try, try.
O'Donnell was here like a month ago, and we talked about,
I think it was coming off a plate race or something.
We talked about, like, the car is not great.
and you know he's like yes we have challenges to the car we need to figure out how to make it
at certain racetracks and this and like all the response was like this car fucking sucks and they
won't admit it I'm like he just did it just said that it's a challenge you know and it's like
do you don't even want to listen you just want a bitch about anything you want and then and then
just non-stop it's like you're almost you read it and you're like are you want us to fail
are you cheering for us to have a shitty race today like yes that's what you want like if you
love the sport why the fuck are you
cheering for it to be terrible.
What do you call those, Tommy?
Keyboard words.
Hey, but you know,
same subject.
So I'm not trying to spin you all out.
But, you know, I was over in Europe,
and I went to Nureburgering,
and they just had their 24-hour racing.
You were just there yesterday, too?
She drove on the...
Jesus, sir.
They ran the 24-hour Nurembergering.
You know, Max Verstappen putting on a hell of a show.
He's their superstar.
320,000 people, and there's pitchers.
So, I mean, the sport of racing is a lie.
it's just, it's just so whack now.
Yeah, it's tough.
It's tough.
Speaking of sport of racing, Kenny, Kenny, Kenny Hamill.
Danny Hamlin, kind of put an ass whipping on us yesterday, huh?
I mean, he was, I think he was clearly the best car.
He lost the lead on some restarts, but the fact that he was checked out that first day,
he was going to win without that caution.
Bubba got around him on a restart.
And then came from whatever, 20th to back to second or third for that second segment.
goes on dominating the third segment and again loses the lead on restarting and just goes back and passes
Briscoe, which was tough to do. I mean, it was pretty, pretty impressive day for the old 11th.
I mean, news flash, he's pretty good. Yeah.
Well said. Yeah, pretty good. Kenny Schrader would say, big red truck.
I mean, did you watch it? I mean, it's just, I mean, the race itself will get to the, we're going to get to the format and talk about that in a minute.
but I thought the racing was pretty good.
Like, you know, the resin helped a little bit.
We could race around each other.
It was still tough to pass.
But, you know, for what it was, I mean,
Denny just went out there and kind of kicked our ass.
Freddie, I got a good story about that.
He's still alive.
The legendary toucan, Jim Murray,
88 years old.
I already was somewhere the other day,
machine in a, on a lathe, machine in a part.
Someone took a picture of him.
He said to me,
so for anybody to listen,
And he's one of the original crew members of the Glory Days.
And the way he got his nickname is just even funnier.
He was supposed to bring back like cases of Coors Light from, you know, Ontario.
And he brought back two cans.
I guess they all broke fellow park.
Two can.
But he said to me in his way, and I'll try to explain it quickly, he said,
Herman, he said, I remember Dover.
He said, kale blowed up.
Kale Yarborough blew up.
Pulled to the infield,
MRN goes over to Kale Yarbrough and says,
Kail, what happened?
And while they're interviewing Kale, they looked up,
and Kale was still leading the race
because he was like four laps ahead.
It's like Chocolate Myers used to say,
you know, you all remember the glory days
a different way than I do.
Kale had a six-lap lead at Dover.
So, I mean, the All-Star race,
that's Dover.
As a race car driver, now, I was,
you know, I wasn't.
That was one of your good places.
You liked Dover.
But yeah, and my point is this, you can't race other cars at Dover because when you exit,
you're about spinning out by yourself.
So to race side by side at Dover, you're a great spotter.
You better get it done.
Yeah.
When you race Dover, pass and pass me now.
Yeah.
Because you're coming up, you unload, you get the walls there.
So for that, I'm like, okay, we can't do no side-by-side racing here.
You better get it done.
I did think it was a plus them putting a round.
resin all the way to the wall. I mean, the racing, again, the only way you can really see the
real race is being there. Yeah. Right. Seeing the whole race of the battles that are going on
throughout the field, right? I mean, the TV only focuses on certain amount of people, right,
most of the time, right? Because to leading and doing stuff, but to watch the real race and see
everything that's going on, you have to be there because the mid-pack is battling. I mean, it was at one
point, five grooves going on getting into the corner guys are battling for like eighth to
twelfth there at one point. So was the racing good? I think it was, I think it was good. I mean,
the normal leader checkout, that's always dover. Always checks out. I mean, but overall, I thought
the racing from the past was much better. Yeah. How was the atmosphere there, like for it being
the all-star race? Like, did it, I know, I saw a lot of stuff on the internet about how.
how it didn't really feel super electric like it might at Charlotte or Wilkesboro and whatnot.
I mean, I didn't go through and see what all on track's left there was.
There's no mud wrestling going on.
That's what we need.
They had little people wrestling out front.
There was a giant duck out there.
I don't know where that appeared yesterday.
It wasn't there Saturday.
Then those guys were cutting the trees down and making all kinds of shit.
They had like a lumberjack competition out there with the log rolling and the fucking chainsaws flying around.
I look back.
I think it was during one of the breaks.
I looked back and there was one fan there sitting there drinking a beer.
And this guy's on the microphone.
This guy's doing it for one fan right there.
It's a VIP show.
That's what it was.
But no, it didn't have any different feeling for me than any other Dover race, really.
By the way, I'm losing my voice.
So if that comes through this, I apologize.
That's not clear.
That's not clear.
Three wide.
Three wide.
I didn't spot yesterday.
We were out of the.
race for half of it.
So what did you lose your voice doing?
I don't know.
It must have been yelling or something.
They did ruin the circle bar, so that was terrible.
Why did they ruin it?
I mean, it's just like way too, way too lit up now.
You can, people don't know you're in there.
See, you used to be able to hide.
Damn cell phones.
I almost, I almost took a picture of it and sent it to Martin Truex because me and his
dad, this is, me and his dad every door, that's like, was.
ritual that's where we would go and we would just shoot the shit for hours and just have a great time.
Have a good chassis set up by the time you were done.
Yeah.
Next thing you know, we were dancing in the other part of the casino.
But yeah, I mean, me and Mr. Drex.
Wait, is that the story that he told us?
One night time he calls me, they're in there drinking.
And I said, where the hell are you?
I was going on a circle bar.
You're not here anymore.
He's like, me and Truex went to the club.
I go, what the fuck are you?
talking about. There's like a little nightclub
like around the corner. Well, it was a
Italian restaurant and about
10 o'clock it turns into a disco. I used
to turn into a disco. I go
walking over there to find Tommy and
it's closing. It's probably out of 1 o'clock, 12
o'clock, something like that. And out comes
Tommy and Truex. And I
Tommy is drenched.
And I'm like, what the fuck are you doing there? He's like
dancing.
See, if you do
Dover write, you got Sambos,
you got the casino, you got the Italian
And restaurants up there, you just got to, you got to know how to do it.
You got a steak place upstairs, but you can never get to.
Yeah, because all the wealthy people are there eating your steak.
I got up there one time with Rusty.
Yeah.
Herman, you want to go eat a steak with me?
Can I go with him?
Oh, shit.
Anyway, Corey Day wins the Riley race.
That kid's obviously pretty good.
I do have to clarify one thing.
Like, I, of course, we talk about the cleatist fans hate me all.
time because we talk about him on here. I hate us.
Why do you have to throw me in?
Because they hate you more to me.
But,
you get great when you got a partner you and hate too.
I love it. They hate him too. They hate him too. That's good.
I got a load of shit from the people. I mentioned Corey
being in conversation to drive the 48 next year last week.
And they're like, you're fucking firing Bowman already. You hate Bowman, which of course,
I don't. But listen, nobody said anything about Bowman getting fired. I think
it's kind of up to Alex at this point.
But Corey did a great job.
The end of that race was great.
We'll talk about some of the lap cars, maybe playing a outcome of that.
I don't think so.
I think that's bullshit.
But yeah, I thought it was just a great race.
It was bullshit.
He ran the middle lane.
Yeah.
We can talk about now.
We'll talk about it now.
Yeah, I don't think, I mean, he could have absolutely done more to get out of the way.
But he's at that point, he's on the lead lap, you know.
And I'm not going to really fault him.
Like you said, Kenny, he didn't, he ran the middle.
I didn't see, I was spotting, so I didn't see where Justin and Corey, I looked at me like they were both running the top and then Justin was going underneath him.
So I don't know what Justin saw to make him come off the top if that guy was running the top before they got there.
But yeah, I mean, the guy didn't do anything wrong, right?
He kind of ran the middle and gave each one of them a lane.
Just Justin kind of chose the wrong one.
It's like this meme I saw, Corridate going, hey, that, oh, it was Ricky Stenhouse on X.
He says, hey, hey, guys, the top is up here.
I mean, you know, Corey just, since Kyle Larson came along,
there's only a handful of drivers that go to the top top.
Like, we're missing the wall by like a foot.
Yeah.
And he just went up there and sent it in his dirt racing, you know, way.
And Corey's arrived finally.
That's all there's two.
It's no different, Conner Zilich.
You know, give Connor some time in NASCAR Cup in only the highest form of motorsports in America.
Give Connor a little time.
He had a good day yesterday.
Car was good.
Yeah.
He finished fifth. Pitstop penalty killed him.
But he came back.
Yeah.
But just, you know, Corey is figuring it out now.
Yeah, we came here.
We joke around about it on the show weekly now.
But we came here after those run-ins earlier in the year where he was kind of getting into the JRM cars a little bit.
And we pull up in that grass lot out there was Mr. H's helicopter sitting there.
And we were like, oh, shit.
And there's some white shirts came down the stairs and then left.
And ever since then, Corey's been real fast.
Like, it's like, all right, if you just calm the fuck down a little bit, you're going to haul that.
You saw it with Ernie Irvin.
I mean, it's just history repeating itself, right, Tommy?
Yeah, I mean, again, I don't want to credit ourselves,
but every time we're letting these guys have it of doing it,
all of a sudden now these guys are superstars now.
I mean, you know, Hosevar or a day, I mean, you know.
Door bumper clear.
Yeah, it's just fixing lives over here.
We fix Cletus.
We have him, you know.
We're Schrader when we need him.
This is Schrader's conversation right here.
Yeah, I mean, Cletus is doing the right.
thing now. We slowed him down, saved his career. I mean,
I mean, shit, we're doing good, man.
People helping people. Yeah, that's what we do.
Got O'Donnell promoted. Yeah, we got O'Donnell promoted. The only
missing is a cigar right now.
Let me tell you something, Bob. Hold on. Let me smoke my cigar.
Now here's what you need to do. Okay, Steve O'Donnell?
Oh, man. What else happened in that race?
Rajah, we'll talk about it a little bit. Truck race.
I don't want you. You want to read this first light, time?
I can read it if you don't have your glasses on.
Talk about the winner first.
Kyle Bush kicked our ass all day long.
Kyle Busch doing Kyle Busch things.
I don't know.
Does it qualify?
It has to count for Rowdy Nation.
So Rowdy Nation, we have the time.
And they called in and they tell us all the time that their sex life depends on Kyle's results.
And he needs a winner race to get laid.
And obviously he hasn't won a cup race in quite a while.
So now we're talking about like the truck races count.
You know, can they get something?
69.
69th win.
Let me tell you something.
I'm going to go there.
Samantha, his wife.
Does everybody know that was a 69th win?
We got to make sure we correct Kenny.
Hold on.
And let me give my disclaimer.
In the press conference after the race, it was Kyle Bush that said, 69.
But my wife is out on the West Coast vacation.
So it was Kyle that started it, as he said, 69th win.
Yeah.
Yeah, but he was, I mean, I kind of unchallenged, really.
I don't remember anybody really being up there with him.
But it was a good race, you know.
I'll say, you know something in this truck race that drove me fucking insane.
And it continues to bother me because we bitch about it.
And I'm one of the ones that pitch about it.
The stage caution is being too long, right?
The stage cautions are fucking 10 laps.
But what drives me insane, and that's fine.
If that's what you need to do to get whatever, you know, stage break in.
But the fact that we can have a yellow come out with five to go on the stage,
get pit road open the first time we come by.
get the choose done the next time you get by and restart for a one lap shootout in two or three laps
I gotta do the interviews they gotta do the interviews they gotta clean the track pretty I mean
it tries me insane like some yellows can be three laps but these stage breaks that we know are coming
have to be 10 laps it's fucking insanity for me um but yeah so uh but yeah at geo did a good job
he just we just kind of again made a mistake at the end and let a top five slip away from us but uh yeah
i thought it was a pretty good race all in all yeah cup guys up there again you know that's what
you want to measure something is good yeah it's good yeah
My takeaway is this.
Clint Boyer, Kevin Harvick,
these guys that are great racers that try to come back,
you know, they're helping Ram.
I love that truck.
I love that superstar truck.
But it's a look into just how hard this is.
You can't take five years off
and just because you want 11 or 12 cup races
think you're going to come back.
And next thing you know, he's yelling at a 19-year-old
because he don't know how to pass it.
But, you know, and Clint Boyer,
said it right, he goes, God, you're just so wide open in these trucks.
There's no breathing, the throttle. And I think it's just a good reminder that this
NASCAR is hard. And when you watch it on TV, you're like, I can go do that. You know,
Clint, Kevin, you know, those guys, even Dale Jr. going to Nashville. I mean, it's hard.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know, you mentioned a 19-year-old Luke. I'll say, you know, Luke was doing a really
good job. You know, Luke is, and this is kind of what I've talked about with Luke,
is you're kind of driving a 20th place truck.
So any position you can finish ahead of 20th
is a fucking great day for you.
And he was running, I think, 18th when this happened.
But, you know, it's, again, it's just that little lapse in judgment
or that one moment where he's just trying a little too hard
and it gets away from him and ruins another good day.
Yeah, I mean, it got away from probably 20 people this weekend
in the same spot going into three.
And that's the worst spot you can be in.
And it's, you know, like I told him after the race,
the only way you're going to learn any driver,
is going to learn as it happens or almost happens to you at that one spot where the bump is going
into three. You kind of lose the nose. But then when you're underneath somebody, you have no air
on your spoil too. So it's the weakest, worst spot you can possibly try to pass somebody. And
unfortunately, he learned. I mean, it's just nothing you can do about it. But, you know,
he outran guys that finish in the top 10. So I thought it was going to be another good day. I mean,
If it wasn't for LaJoy taking him out of Bristol,
he probably would have finished top 15,
easily another top 15.
And that truck that, you know, they're building, right?
We're trying to build it around Luke to probably have two good,
really good finishes.
He ran really good at Rocking Ham.
It was just a tough field.
It was eight cup guys.
And, I mean, you look at it, it was like 27 really good trucks.
And he finished 22nd, right?
he probably, you know, would a little bit more time.
He would have been better.
But he's doing good.
You got Charlotte coming this weekend.
We got a good truck that we're bringing.
So I'm excited.
Kenny, what do you tell a young driver like, Luke?
Oh, man.
That's like he's got speed.
He's got all the speed in the world.
He knows how to drive.
I'm not going to take that away from him.
But his execution hasn't been great the last, I mean, almost all year, I could say.
You know, like it's just, you know, and a lot of it, some of it's not as I'm doing.
but, you know, like he's just on a run of bad luck now or putting himself in a bad spot.
How do you get back on the horse from there?
When you're Luke's age, this is your whole world.
If you run 12, that means your world's over, that you'll never be able to go on with the rest of your life.
So when I was young and I was in NASCAR and I had a bad race, I mean, I was devastated.
I thought, oh, my God, my three daughters are going to starve.
Nobody's going to like me.
these are this is real this is real stuff uh you know in nascar it hurts like hell because you know
you're looking at you know cori day up there you want to be them do you understand what i'm saying
yeah yeah absolutely the unfortunate part with our side versus cori day right he don't have to
worry about anything he just says you know we're digging every day just to scrape up everything
we possibly can to go to a race and race right so to
that's what sucks.
That's why I tell Luke, I'm like,
stop worrying about everything.
I'll worry.
You're a good dad.
Let me worry about all the rest of the shit.
I wish I'd have had you.
Like, let me worry about all the other shit.
My brother Rusty motherfuckered me the whole time.
Just like, you know, that's what it was back.
Go ahead.
I'm just like, let me worry about all the rest of the bullshit.
I don't really care what anybody says.
Fuck everybody.
That's right.
Right?
You got your friends, right?
You got your five friends.
You're going to have those five friends.
No one, who gives a shit about the keyboard.
They just think they're shit.
They don't boom in and they...
Tommy Ellis said, I'll bring my friends to the racetrack with me.
That's right.
Yeah.
Exactly.
To fight, right?
Yeah.
Back in the day with Tommy.
But, you know, I just say, man, just go have some fun, man.
We're building where this is just a start.
All of this is is a start, right?
Get some laps.
You got to get to the end of these races.
So hopefully there'll be some green flag pit stops you can learn from.
Learn pit stops.
Learn pit stops.
Learn how to pass, where to pass on certain tracks, right?
Do certain things, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, at Dover, he tried to pass.
Well, you can't pass, right?
So it happens.
I mean, just, what are you going to do?
Start over.
No, you're 110% right.
And when you're a kid, those one races is like an eternity.
What do you mean?
I got to wait until the next time I go back.
Can we go back tomorrow?
Well, and for somebody like Luke, who's only, you know,
doing a handful of starts per year or whatever it is,
like I'm sure he really wants to make those starts count.
And when they, when, you know, it goes wrong or south or, or,
or mistakes happen, like it might, like, to your point, feel so much more heavy and so much
bigger because you don't get to do it again for a couple more months or whatever it might be.
And by the way, I want to brag on you and your sister.
I cannot get over how fast you guys are.
That's why it went.
Squirrel!
I'm going to say it.
Herman, you know, people get mad at me for bragging on people.
Why is he bragging?
But you and your sister, I just can't get over how fast you guys are in those outlaw carts.
Yeah.
You know, but it's the same thing with your boy.
Who's building them?
Cheating some bitch.
Oh, yeah.
Because fuck me.
I can't drive, right?
Your boy's a good racer.
He needs time.
I take everything nice.
I just said back about Luke, asshole.
And he's lucky to have you.
Because when my brother Rust, my brother Rusty, you know, he was friends with Earnhardt, tight.
You know, and those guys were born in the 50s where everything was like you.
No bullshit.
So it's good to see you got a little love.
in that brain of yours for your boy.
A little bit.
Luke needs you because this is not.
Right now, this is the worst NASCAR's ever been at people jamming it up your
ass constantly, you know, this, that, good job.
Good job, Dad.
Speaking of having a hard time.
I want to approach this carefully.
Oh, here we go.
I'm leaving.
Because I don't want to come across like we're making fun of this person.
No, I'm actually, I, the, if it's what I think.
I'm just talking about Natalie Decker
and that radio transmission
and how her race went.
I know you said you might want to talk about it
so you can kick it off.
Because, you know, like that,
obviously the radio doesn't sound great.
But like, you know, in that moment,
like, I mean, how did you want to talk?
Approach it here.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, I think probably the opposite
of what people would think my response was to it.
But I mean, I think what we heard there was somebody,
I mean, it's emotions that we've all probably felt
at some point,
especially as women in racing,
but also just anybody in racing.
I think you, you know, you kind of start to realize at a point that you're maybe in over your head.
And then all of these emotions are coming at you of shame and pride.
And then you start thinking that your brain almost spirals and you start thinking about,
oh, well, these people on social media are going to say this or I'm letting this sponsor down or this person.
And for somebody like Natalie who's been very outward about not caring,
I think that, you know, if that's the realization that she was having in this moment,
that that's why the emotions were even heavier
because she was admitting to herself
that she was in over her head finally, perhaps.
It's kind of what I think I was hearing.
And I think that she had a moment
that most people get to have in private.
And you can say she shouldn't have keyed up or whatever,
but I mean, she was trying to communicate
in the midst of a super panicky moment.
And for that, I honestly commend her.
I think we just saw a super emotional moment
of somebody that maybe was kind of realizing
that they were just,
a little bit in over their head.
Dover is one of the hardest places not to be good.
And when, you know, as far as the truck getting lapped and being put in positions,
just getting thrown in positions to be out of control because guys are just going by you.
But look, she was start, she, look, she practiced well.
She didn't qualify that bad, right?
I mean, she ran a decent time.
She was right in between the girls, I think, you know.
Tony and Dustin.
Yeah, I mean, like, she ran that time.
I was like, oh, shit.
that's what Luke run in practice.
I hope he beats her.
Yeah.
You know, because I keep forgetting because the cup cars,
we don't gain any much time anymore from practice to qualify.
You know, I forget what, you know, every now and then I forget what the...
You are old.
Exfinity and trucks, you get to tape up still and do a bunch of shit,
and you can pick up a second.
So I was like, holy shit, these girls are on it today, you know?
But it's a hard place to hide, right?
Kenny, Dover.
It's a hard place to hide.
And it gets to a point that anybody can get out of control in their mind when that stuff's happening.
I mean, we had a meltdown with Cody yesterday, right?
He was not, the car was not handling well.
And he was, them guys caught him and he was, I mean, fuck by the time he got done holding on,
he was again, almost getting lapped again by the leader.
So it's like Dover is a tough place.
It's a tough place to bring somebody like that that doesn't have much racist.
experience. Yeah, a couple things about Natalie. I almost called her because I felt that bad for her.
And I thought, no, I just couldn't do it. Number one, who in the hell is picking her schedule?
Because you just said it. You cannot go to Watkins Glen and you cannot go to Dover.
Number two. A Watkins Glen wasn't her fault. They had an electrical problem from how they unload,
how they unloaded. The start a cable was just close enough to the firewall. So when she would
turn, make turns, it would hit the firewall and cut the engine off. That's what her problem was
at Watkins Glen. So none of that was her fault. So, but go ahead. Okay.
Dover. Yeah, go over. Yeah, but we're talking about the same thing. I, as a like a father figure,
you know, looking at these young girls, I want to see Natalie running Hickory or tri-county every week.
Yeah.
I want to see her grinding.
I don't want Natalie racing once every two months.
I want her at Bowman Gray.
I want her in it.
I want her running a dirt race.
I want her family to create this schedule that's just racing, racing, racing, racing, racing.
And, you know, that way, you know, we're racing every week.
We have to be careful because there are some.
really good ones, girls coming.
And get ready to come.
And we don't want to paint a bad picture because of what's happening now of the girls
that are running the trucks or the O'Reilly series, right?
Because there's two or three of them right now that are capable of running pretty good
in those two series when they get there.
So let's stay positive right now, right?
And like you said, she needs to probably move down, right?
She has plenty of followers, plenty of sponsors that will probably support her.
Can you right?
Look at Cletus.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's the same situation.
Almost identical.
They both need to race more and grind.
Like you said, grind it out.
Yeah, grind.
You know, listen, I'm going to end up being the asshole in the room.
But listen, again, even on this radio, it's not her.
She's blaming people that have nothing to do with it.
She's blaming the race director.
What the fuck did he do or the series director?
It's not their fault.
You picked this race to go to.
You got out of line too soon on a restart.
That's a penalty.
You sped on pit road.
That's a penalty.
and you're going too slow on the racetrack.
Yes, it's a tough place, and maybe you shouldn't have picked this race.
But it's not the race director's fault, so don't get on the radio and say,
this fucking series sucks, and I'm going back to O'Reilly,
which, by the way, you shouldn't be an O'Reilly series either.
You shouldn't be approved for either one of these series, if we're being honest.
So like Kenny said, go back and race and get better.
It's more about, and you know, I know you talk about it like it comes in your head.
The last thing you should be fucking worried about while you're out there driving a truck at Dover
is what the people on the fucking internet
are going to say.
Especially at the point where...
She's not even...
That's what I'm saying.
She's not even focused enough.
Exactly.
Like, yeah, yeah.
It's just, I feel bad for her
because it's going to be a joke all week long
and that's why I want to make sure that we don't...
We're not making fun of her.
No.
But she doesn't need to be out there.
She doesn't belong out there.
And in those moments where she's blaming everybody but herself,
you know, that's another self-realization
where it's not the race director's fault.
You know, he's penalizing her because,
first of all, she's committed.
the two penalties. And then the second one is the safety of the other drivers around her because
she's in the way. You know, and it's unfortunate. But like Kenny said, pick a different place to go
where you can hide a little bit at least. Here's the thing about Natalie. 12 years ago, I'm racing
Natalie Decker up in Wisconsin. And I'm like, this girl, you know, she can drive. But and Natalie's
watching this right now. Natalie needs to get back to, you know, those days where we're racing every
week in Wisconsin, then come down.
That would be my advice for the whole family.
That's just it.
She can drive, but she's not keeping her reps up.
I like what you always have to say about it.
I mean, don't you got to race?
You got a race.
Yeah, I mean, you got a race.
I mean, it's like when we would go back to Millbridge once a month.
I mean, I know Millbridge is nothing like racing NASCAR getting into a truck, you know,
every once a month.
But, I mean, it's just racing in general.
you have to, whether, and even aside from the driver, I mean, your team's got to get the reps in.
You guys have to be used to come into the racetrack together and your routine and just all the things.
And, I mean, the more that you race, I mean, it's just practice makes perfect as cliche as it sounds.
As Larry McReynolds say, I think we beat that like a dead horse.
I know.
Before you move on, I do want to call it, Catherine, like running the double.
I think that's going to be really cool.
It is.
And why's she getting shit?
I mean, you see where she qualified?
27.
Qualified 27?
Outside row nine.
Hell yeah.
The people like, yeah.
I saw some things,
two things I really thought were funny this week that I saw
was people giving her shit about the double,
which, listen, she's going to go run wherever she runs.
She's going to.
But it's going to be a fun story to follow running the double.
Like it's a big deal to run the double.
You don't know she's there in the cup.
She does a good job, man.
She gets better as the race goes on.
I mean, it's just.
That's because we shouldn't get any practice.
Yeah. Isn't Catherine, like, really good in her area?
Yeah.
And then she's trying to come run these.
Yeah.
She'll run good at India.
She'll figure it out.
She'll run good at Indies.
I mean, she'll run well at Indies.
She'll run, you know, she'll also driving a part-time car in the Cup Series.
So what do you expect her to run?
I mean, I didn't get any.
I don't get to fuck where she finishes.
If she finishes all of the laps, period, badass, done.
I would not want to be a girl in NASCAR.
Fuck, no.
Why do you think I'm not one?
My guy's hard.
It's hard.
Your uncle would be defending you.
Dale Jr.,
let me tell you something.
She's really good.
And that's why she does 12 podcasts.
It's so busy.
Well, it's really hard to share your opinion
and then go, like, suck sometimes.
And then they're like,
that's why you can't say that about everybody else.
Go ahead.
I'm sorry.
No, I mean,
Danny Hamlin wins everything,
and they still motherfucker up.
True.
So what do you think?
If you're a girl.
Yeah.
The other,
The other news I saw this week was, and I see like three or four people retweet this,
breaking news or big news that AM racing shut down.
Like, is it really breaking news?
The team that hasn't raced in a month is not going to continue racing anymore.
But that sucks for those guys, but, you know, it's just part of the sport, right?
I mean, especially on a Ford side where there seems like there's not a lot of funding for the lower series.
I find it hard to believe anybody can afford to race a NASCAR Cup series.
I mean, some of these owners like Roger Penske, there's had to be times where he's,
he's at a reach in and grab some millions or, you know, A and B with his own companies.
And, I mean, you, hey, you give me oil for all my dealerships and I'll put your name under car.
I mean, I just.
And you would be surprised how much the owners put in of their own money.
So I'm close?
You're pretty close.
It's unbelievable.
I mean, I can add, and I got all my own sponsors in my day, you know, I got all the sponsors in my NASCAR career.
I got them.
And then I gave the money.
So, I mean, I know.
But it still wasn't enough.
Oh, no.
It still wasn't enough.
No. No.
He would still be in business.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Wow.
I hit a nerve.
That's good.
No.
No, I mean, you just totally agreed with me like 110%.
Yeah.
I mean, what you did was miraculous.
Ten years, man.
Golden Crowell, baby.
Yeah.
Dave Blaney.
Yeah.
Almost one Tel-Othago.
Should have won a 500.
Tommy's smiling everybody.
Almost 500, too, yeah.
We need to talk about Donovan because he is home now.
It was so what happened.
Pit Cork got away.
We see this a lot at this race track down that hill coming from the horse track down on the pit road.
These heavy-ass cards.
One guy's usually trying to steer it while a couple guys are pushing.
So you see this one takeoff and he does a great job to, was it Amanda Bucick?
I think it was like barreling for her.
You could see him lean into it and take the brunt of it.
He was hurt pretty bad.
And they were really worried about it.
I see, I mean, immediately up in the road, you see it's a big commotion,
see him get loaded up in the ambulance and take off.
But shout out to him.
Yeah. Really saved Amanda, really.
And then, you know, took the brunt of it, but you said he's home now.
Yeah, he's home now.
But, yeah, he took a beating, man.

A million bucks
A million dollars
That was paid
It's paid a million since when, probably like 2000.
I would think, like my notes say, it's sad to say, but million dollars just doesn't
have that ring anymore.
He won a million dollars here at El Dora.
Superman, Jonathan Davenport.
It's like, wow, in dirt racing, a million dollars is unreal.
They're paying that over here for the All-Star race at NASCAR.
It's like, ah, you know, maybe $5 million to win.
But the million don't have the ring anymore.
For me, first of all, it's the All-Star race.
It was the longest fucking race of the year so far.
It was four hours long or just shy of four hours long.
The longest one before this is like three hours and 20 minutes.
Yeah.
Thank God for a one o'clock start.
Dang.
Hell of you.
But still, that's never going to happen again.
So why even talk about it?
It needs to.
It definitely needs to.
But listen, you know, the format was awful.
My favorite thing about the All-Star race for years was the open.
You know, you got to watch guys that don't get the chance to race for the win a lot.
Obviously, they don't have a win.
you know, they're in there battling their asses off for a win to get in.
And you end up with two guys or three guys out of the open plus a fan vote.
Well, now you got everybody in that first stage.
Well, guess what happens on the first lap?
An open guy causes a wreck and wipes out your three most famous guys in the race.
Larson, Blaney and Chase Elliott.
Well, now fuck what?
Now what are we going to do?
Did they do away with the open so that like...
The open guys, we all just race.
But for travel?
Like, maybe because...
No, they were old there.
No, we were old.
We were old.
Well, no.
I mean, so that people didn't get sent home.
that far away from here? I mean, we did this in Texas, so they're not worried about that.
Okay. But it's, you know, I don't know what, like, the whole premise of it just seemed
completely backwards to me. And then by the time we're done wrecking, I look up and there's,
you're out there, you know, a bunch of laps down. I'm like, you're still going to get in.
Hold on. We were not a bunch of laps down. In the first stage, I'm talking about it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I'm like, I'm looking and I go, there's only, there's 26 cars, no
what, matter what, they wanted 26 to start the last stage. And I'm like, there's only 23 on track time.
You're in. Like, and then the. And then the.
Of course, the race depends on how many of us can get our wreck shit out of the garage and back out on the race train.
And that's what.
It was so bad that all social media was shown was Junior Johnson from 1970, trying to get across the front straight away and leave the race.
Ladies and gentlemen, the race is over for Junior Johnson's cars.
He's trying to leave the facility.
And that's what the means all day.
The format was so crazy.
I mean, I don't know how you're an average fan.
I don't know how good of a job TV did covering like average.
I didn't know what the fuck was going on at all.
guys. They're the best six average
open guys. But then we go to start
the second stage. I don't know if you're listening to NASCAR
or you're up there, but they're like, okay, here's the lineup.
42, 20, 16, 17, 34.
42, 20, 35, 17.
Hike. Hike. I go, I go, okay, 42, 20,
and the 35 are in the garage.
And you're calling them to line up in the front of the field.
I'm like, you don't even know what the hell's going on out here.
How the fucking fan are supposed to know?
I was, uh...
Poor bad.
I hated it for like the five and the 12 having to fix their cars to come out and be a second off, right?
Yeah.
They should have just said, you know what, let's just load this thing, let the people that are still out on the track race, right?
I mean, the rules should have been if you wreck, you're out.
But, you know, or those 19 guys shouldn't even been until the 200 lap.
Yeah, right?
I mean, that's the whole point of the damn open is, you know, you, you, you, you, you, you,
you kind of cut the field in half where you
where you make sure that when we get down,
we get down to race,
you got your all-stars on the racetrack.
I mean,
seven of us came out of the garage
to start the third stage,
the final stage.
And we all were junk.
None of us had any speed.
So now we've got these guys just out here
riding around the back while,
you know, Denny's out there.
Denny and Briscoe put on a good show.
And Danny and Reddick put on a good show.
But then you look after that,
and it's all guys that are like teens and 20s and points
and the rest of the top five.
I mean, talk about how great of a day Zilich had.
He was top five.
he's fucking 30th and points, you know.
But he was good.
He was good.
I mean, he drove up to first stage, too.
I mean, I think he drove up to 15th.
I mean, he was pretty good.
It's just, it's just,
Ty Dillon was had a good day, no matter what.
That was for me, that was easily the worst all-star race.
And then you get down, it's like, okay, we've weeded the field down.
Here comes the shootout.
It's 200 fucking laps.
And O'Rolly race.
Okay, here's, here's my take on the all-star race.
Can you really make things exciting in the,
daytime. I mean, everybody goes in parties at night. I mean, come on. Yeah. I mean, I'm a big NASCAR fan. I love
this sport, but you got to do exciting things at night because you can't see sparks in the day.
And that's what the all, you know, one hot night. Remember? That was our saying, one hot night.
And they show sparks and, you know, it just, I know, I know it sounds really stupid, but you can't run that race in the daytime.
They were going to continue to do it.
I hope not.
What was the last time I did it?
91, right?
Because one hot night was 92, wasn't it?
That was the one when Davy and Kyle Petty wrecked at the end.
So we haven't had run to these in 37-something years probably.
But, you know, it's, I don't know.
I think it just needs to go back to Charlotte.
Because we got away from Charlotte because the race.
Wilkesboro wasn't bad, but Wilkesboro needs a point race because the race will be better
because we got more cars out there and we'll be able to pass each other when we cut
They got that outside groove working on these intermediate tracks.
And like the racing is Charlotte.
We got away from there because the package at the time sucked and we were changing a package and running that.
Really, I remember the one year we ran that really low horsepower, high down force.
We were basically drafting.
We got away from Charlotte because the racing there was not good.
But now the racing there is great.
So let's just go back there.
Have your fucking open like you should have where you got guys like that don't win every week.
You know, Eric Jones put on a show this weekend, I thought really good job in qualifying.
a really good job in the race.
He probably would have won the open and had something to hang his hat on.
But now he just gets like a congratulations.
You finish third or fourth and move along.
You get your same whatever, how much money it is for $30,000.
$30,000 to go to move on to the next race.
But, you know, and then have a true, you know, short segment at the end where you mix it up a little bit and see, like, just do something.
But like the fact that we were two hours in yesterday and I look down and I go, okay, we're halfway through this race and we still got another 200 left to go.
And I know it costs, I know it costs NASCAR money and it costs people money,
but let's try and go to some other places and revive them, right?
Let's go to a racetrack that we used to race at and rebuild it and like a Wilkes,
like something that we did at Wilkesbrough, something that they invested like in Bowman Gray, right?
Something that brings excitement, that's newness, that all of a sudden it's like,
all right, that place is now a racetrack again, all right?
let's continue the tradition.
Let's keep growing it like a Wilkesboro.
Keep growing it like a Bowman Gray.
I mean, look, people don't, the problem is,
Freddie, people don't have the attention span anymore
to be at one place for two weeks.
110 for a week straight.
You can't entertain people.
You have to like, boom, oh, there's something new, something different, right?
And that's, maybe that's what they, I don't, no,
they didn't try to do that, Dover, because they just wanted to give Dover a race.
understand that, but we need to invest back into our sport to revive places, to revive stories,
to create new fans, right? We just, just the attention span's not there anymore.
Let me say this. I'm with you, but you go back. Remember when the monster jam trucks would do
backflips and it was the biggest thing in the world. And then snowmobiles started doing backflips.
And everybody was just in awe.
And now it's normal.
Yeah.
Now it's like, what do you mean they didn't do a flip?
They didn't do two of them?
Right.
So society, it's a societal shift is what you're saying.
Right.
We can't entertain people anymore because now flipping a monster jam truck is just normal.
Flipping a snowmobile is normal.
And everything is so normalized now.
We need something that will just make us go, wow.
Yeah.
And it's really hard to do when cars just go in circles.
I think what we need to do is NASCAR and SM I need to make a little trade, give Bowman Gray the All-Star Race and make Dover a points race in place of one of the ISC tracks.
Because a million dollars on a line of Bowman Gray, shit could get a little excited.
You know an image burnt in my head is the Bowman Gray race in the rain.
You're turning on it and everybody's run the high side.
There's Nashville.
There's Greenville Pickens.
The problem with that is we wouldn't put on a good race there.
Where?
The short track package with his car is not.
good enough. We can't go to a short
track. That's why we're getting away from Wilkesboro
because the race wasn't good there. You know, we're
giving a points race because it's going to make the race better.
We can't pass with this package.
So, like, it's got to be a place like Bowman Gray
or a quarter mile or something tight where we can...
Greenville Pickens is only a half mile, right?
Yeah, well, so is Wilkesboro.
It's war out. Greenville at least was war out, so maybe it makes it a little better.
That'd be great to go back there. I'm just saying, I mean, just
creating, you know,
it has to be some really small or a worn-out race track.
I feel like this won't get flagged.
I feel like this.
I had Steve O'Donnell on Kenny Conversation.
And I said I once went to Marcus Smith and I said,
why did you build all those big tracks, you know, like Chicagoland or, you know,
out there in Fontana, California?
He said because we went from 60,000 people to 200 and we needed bigger racetracks
to fill the people.
And Steve O'Donnell said,
and our cars were not ready for those tracks.
So even Steve admitted, to your point,
I think the All-Star race is ready to go back to Charlotte
because these cars now can search the high groove,
the bottom groove.
And I think at Charlotte, these cars are ready for that race track.
But the people aren't going to go twice in one week.
They don't do that anymore.
Oh, I didn't think about that.
Well, I mean, and it's expensive to do.
They don't show up to the camp, what the camp is,
until Thursdays or Fridays now instead of Mondays, right?
We don't show up until some places until Saturday, right?
When we go on Friday mornings, we're pissed because we don't do anything all weekend anyway, right?
Everything's impounded.
We have one inspection, and, I mean, it's just...
I'm exhausted.
It's just a whole different atmosphere.
I'm exhausted.
Yeah. When asked about longer practices, Chase Elliott says,
Quote, it is not going to change who runs good, end quote. Tommy?
Spot on. Yeah. I mean, I'm saying it, I say it with that and I say it with rule changes.
I mean, it's just, it's the same thing. I mean, the people are going to figure it out.
And unfortunately, we all would love longer practices to work on the car and actually to do something while we're there.
Let me ask you a question. And I don't know if this is, go to the racetrack.
Would you ever take the underbody off the car at the racetrack?
do you think for what to try it to just make it like if we had if they all of a sudden said okay we
have three practices that are an hour long like we used to have like are you can you envision a
scenario where you're just willingly to take the underbody off the car like I feel like we're
so tuned in on like such minimal adjustments under like everything's got to be set so perfect
that I mean I don't know I don't have to take the underbody to get to anything else really
I mean you might have to take the the pan off to do some front uh
suspension mount changes, but, um, look, they're all working on stuff to try to make it better, right?
They, there's different things that they're working on now to try to implement, but.
Would it matter is the question?
I mean, and you could give us five hours of practice.
I think all you're doing, Kenny, is hurting the product.
Because, like, the more practice we get, the tighter the box becomes of what, you know,
instead of being maybe three-tenths top to bottom, we're going to be a tenth and a half top to bottom.
And that's only going to make the racing product worse, right?
I mean, the fast, if everybody's going the same fucking speed, we can't pass each other.
You remember how you poked fun, it means that said squirrel.
So. How'd you remember that?
I'm pretty smart.
I'm thinking about, you know, what, a month ago.
Oh, my God, they'd given Tyler Redick something, you know.
But in all those victories except Cota, you know, Daytona, he's running six.
You know.
Atlanta, we moved out of his way.
Atlanta, you moved out of his way.
I mean, you know, and then all of a sudden Toyota's got something.
And then all of a sudden, Chevrolet wins two in a row.
Now they got something.
Now, Denny embarrasses the field here.
Now, it's exhausting.
It's just exhausting.
And, you know, I mean, the teams are, I mean, listen, you're right.
Door bumper clear is lucky to have you.
You can tell us.
What do you doing?
Changing air pressures a half a pound, a 30-second shim-stack.
I mean, we're talking my fingernail.
Is that what we've come down to?
Yeah, I mean, we mostly, so many other changes affect so many, you know, arrow and arrow dynamics of the car.
It's just like all of the, you know, the shocks that have stops, like they have travel stops on them.
So every adjustment you have to think about the travel stops.
And it's just like when you get back, you get down to it during the race, even if you make those adjustments, it's time on pit road.
So you don't want to make any of those window adjustments because it's going to slow the pits.
stop down. So you can't even really do that on green flag stops or yellow flag, you know,
to think about it. Right. So it's just basically the good guys, it's just play with air pressure.
And it's just a, I'm thinking about Jeff Burton right now. He said, Herman, when me and you race,
when we pushed, we were pushing. He says nowadays when you push, it's like, oh, I'm pushing.
You know, the steering wheel, it's like this now. And it used to be like that. And that's the difference.
I mean, that's all there's to it.
It's just everything's so minimal.
You hear it.
I hear it all the time on my radio.
Like, I don't want to put a wrench in this thing
because it's a half a second longer,
but that's nowadays with an eight, seven pit stop.
That's freaking...
Well, you've got to think of so many things
when you put the wrench in and the good guys understand.
It's just like, you know,
a change in the right rear
also might affect the front sway bar rate
of what's going on in the front end nowadays
with these cars.
And it's just like, okay,
you put a round in, you know, back in the day,
you put a round in the right rear.
All you was really worried about was taking wedge out.
Well, now you put a round in the right rear,
you lift the back of the car up,
it takes downforce away.
Now it doesn't make much a difference
with the simple diffuser that we have,
which is good.
But with the high downforce package,
you don't want to do that.
So it's like, how do you make,
so, okay, you take a half a round out of the left rear, right?
Because that drops the back of the car and takes wedge away.
Oh, no, now I'm worried about being on a left rear bump stop.
So going in the corner.
So now what I'm going to do that?
Oh, is my left rear air to me?
What the hell's going on?
Hey, insert meme right here.
My eyeballs's going on.
We're not negative people.
The reason we're talking about this is because it's hurt racing.
Yeah.
Okay.
Perfection has destroyed competition.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
We need gaps sometimes.
Speaking of perfection and just getting a little bit extra,
you see that cheating Danny Hamlin spin out and qualifying
and get his right front flap stuck up?
That had to be a little bit extra down.
Put some heat in his tires.
Put a little extra downforce on that thing.
No, I mean, it goes against the pole.
Carried over kicking everybody's ass yesterday.
No wonder he's so good.
He's put out on purpose.
The best way Rajah Karuth can make it up to the number two team
is to buy a box of down four's Danny T-shirts.
Spot on, spot up.
And on top of how Rajah needs to quit sticking his balls on the dash.
A couple things that Stockman's been saying, yeah.
I mean, again, slow down, Raja.
Slow down.
You have everything in front of you.
You don't have to slow down, Roger.
These two are like magnets this year.
Have you had that in the season or throughout your career
where there's just one guy you feel like you can't get the fuck away from this guy
and you run in all the week, every week?
Here I go again.
I love Tobudine, but when I looked in the mirror and he was coming,
I got out of the way because he was going to spin me out.
And he's my friend.
There's just guys you can race with and the guys you can't race with.
And Mark Martin taught us.
And, you know, he was just like, oh, okay.
It's like when I used to run Martinsville, you know, you drive down in there,
break, and you run out of brakes.
And then Russ, he's like, listen, dumbass, I'm trying to teach you.
You got to let off and start finish line.
Same thing in driving etiquette.
Oh, I got to be careful passing this guy.
He's going to chop me.
Yeah.
You just got to make note.
If I pass this guy, I better make it quick.
Yeah.
part of my job, like, you see
somebody you know that's going to be a problem.
It's like, hey, no, you know who the hell
you're racing with here. You know, like, you're putting it
on his door, you're going to crash here, the next lap or two.
Did you see hosts of our go off
on the radio?
No.
Yes, it is.
These no driving, I mean, I'm like,
about three months ago,
about two, three months ago, that was you doing
all that shit.
Now I'm big time, always.
I feel for Raja, but like you said, Tommy,
it's just trying a little too hard.
And I feel like in our sport, I said this to Lucas a thousand times.
I've said it to G.R.
I've said it to everybody.
90% effort is better than 110% effort almost all the time.
Because that's where you get into those troubles where, you know, and Rajav feels,
he said in his interview, he feels like he's racing for his life right now.
He's got the best opportunity he's ever had in his career.
And he feels like he's racing for his life.
That's what I said about your boy.
Yeah.
And he's not.
You know, like it's almost backwards thinking because what these owners are looking for,
if you feel like this is a, you know, your audition to the next level,
what they're looking for you is to take a top five car and run the top five with it.
They're not looking for you to take a top five car and wreck with a hundred to go,
battling for the wind because you sailed it off into three,
the most dangerous, treacherous spot on the racetrack, by the way,
and chase it up into the guy and the guy that you've already wrecked a couple times that I'd run-ins with.
But, you know.
Larson's one in it.
Zillich is one in it.
Yeah.
Like, everybody wins in that car, right?
And it does put a little pressure on you, but, Rajah, you're not Connor and you're not Larson yet, right?
you're you.
You've gotten to this point because you're you.
Still be you, man.
Just take you time.
He made some mistakes even last year in the truck series, right?
Doing the same type of thing, man.
Just slow down.
You do have probably one of the best opportunities
out of every race car driver in the world right now
to take advantage.
But you're not going to be able to take advantage of it
if you keep rushing, right?
How hard is it?
I can hear Dick Trickle right now.
When Steve Park got hurt
and they put me in the Penzo car at Rockingham.
Trucle said, okay, my boy, you're in a really good car now.
Let the car do the work.
You know, at that time, I was what I was, you know, deep in my career.
And set quick time, led the whole race, got beat on on pit road.
And on my way home, I looked at my wife, and I said, what the hell have I been driving my whole life?
Yeah.
Okay, but that was then.
Now, you know, in my day, in my day, it was me, you know, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labani.
It's the same thing now, except it's tighter.
It's way tighter.
So all these kids, whether it's your son Luke or whether it's Raha or any of these kids, they just feel the world on them.
You know, it could be a 10th, but a 10th puts them on the pole and now they're 20th.
They just feel the pressure.
Yeah.
It's all there is to it.
That's crazy.
All right.
Last one.
All 15 of the 27 nominees deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
Oh, my God.
That whole of fame.
The voting is this week is why we're talking about.
Yeah, I know.
Go tomorrow.
I vote tomorrow.
Can you bring up the ballot there, Dalton?
Give me a second.
First of all, Tommy, take us in the room.
You're going to be there.
Is it tomorrow?
Tomorrow.
I don't need you to tell me who you're voting for.
I do.
I was going to say, I want to know.
I want to know.
Girls.
What's the process like in that room?
First of all, how many people are there?
And then what's the process?
Shoot.
I think there's 40 or 50 of us, but all parts of the industry, right?
News reporters, Hall of Famers, NASCAR people, everybody.
And, you know, everybody seems to, they walk in, you know, we get lunch first and we start talking some stuff.
You know, what do you think?
What do you think?
What do you think?
So we all go in there with our own ideas.
And then people start talking, right?
Telling stories about this certain person.
And it kind of, like, sometimes it sways the group, right?
So, you know, I personally think that the hardest decision that we're going to make tomorrow
will be the emotional decision because of Biffle.
That's going to be the hard, to me, the hardest thing because there is another, you know,
Harvick, you know, again, we've always said if someone wins a championship and you're elected to
the hall, you know, you're entered into the Hall of Fame to be elected, you're going to win, right?
And there's some really good crew chiefs on the ballot. But to me, looking at the crew chiefs,
you're looking at all the material that they send out. All the crew chiefs that are in the Hall of Fame
now have won three or more championships. So to me, that's like, man, that must be what everybody's
thinking. That's the criteria. You've got to win three as a crew chief. Well, three as a crew chief
first one as a driver.
We put a lot, Khrushy's put a lot more work in during the week and during our lives than
the driver.
It's like, man, that's pretty tough.
But there's only one other person right now, and he's still in the garage that has three
championships.
That's Paul Wolf.
So to me, as soon as Paul gets, you know, gets, you know, named to be, he's going to get
in, right, because he's already won three.
So, you know, you got some tough ones there.
You know, you got one that's probably everyone's going to vote for, as I would say, it would
be Harvick, but then you got some, some ones that deserve to be in there, and it's going to be
hard. That's going to be our hardest pick. And everybody goes around the room kind of, like you said,
stands up. If you want, if you want to talk, you get to talk. If you don't, if you want to sit
there and, you know, Kelly will be, I think Kelly and Dale will be there tomorrow as well. And
I hope Dale speaks up, because so far he hasn't. And I can't believe it. He hasn't spoken up yet.
He recognizes his, he can sway.
He can sway the room.
Him and Chase.
Yeah.
Chase Hillett.
You know, listen, I hear Brother Rusty right now.
It's sad to say, but you got to remind people because they remember what they want to.
Exactly.
I mean, Ernie Elliott.
I mean, you know, I was a crew chief in 1984.
Yeah.
There was no better motor builder.
I mean, here's the thing about Ernie.
They're down in Dawsonville, Georgia.
They know nobody.
And this guy's making that kind of horsepower.
Yeah, but then you got Randy Dorton.
way more championships, way more wins.
So you have two engine builders on there, right?
And then you have some Winston West guys,
and you have Xfinity and truck champions.
And then you got Neil Bonnet, right?
And then you got Jeff Burton.
So there are a lot of tough decisions, I think, tomorrow.
The Pioneer Ballad is getting tough.
I mean, you know, Larry Phillips was the beginning of, you know,
you knew Larry, right?
And he was the beginning of when NASCAR went to trying to get the local people become stars.
He was the guy that was Richie Evans in the Midwest, right?
He was that guy winning all championships.
He's sitting there.
You got Harry Hyde, man.
It's, you know, all the wins that he had.
Banjo was the guy that built all the chassis for everybody and all the crew chiefs and drivers.
I mean, it's just, it's going to be tough.
I think the gig is up.
If you vote somebody in, you better say why.
Instead of, well, I like him and, you know, Chase Elliott told me to vote him in.
No, nobody does it.
So I go in, I go in, I leave my emotions out of it until it starts.
I go base off statistics.
I do all statistics.
Wins versus starts.
How many championships this guy had back then, you know, in the dirt world like Larry, or what he did?
Because I remember, I know what he did.
Have you ever said, I can't believe they voted that guy in?
Not yet.
Not yet.
No.
You might have said last year.
Thank you for me last year.
He said that last year.
I said he was going to get in, but he'd probably all the, and I talk shit with him last week, but all, you know, all the shit that he did, he probably shouldn't have been.
First ballot.
First ballot.
He should have been this year.
But now, fuck, that would have ruined.
and at the end of the day,
that would have ruined this year's ballot because they
would have been one less
person. And this is what I've been
saying about the ballot. And
the other discussion we have, you know,
whether it's Cup Series versus
everybody is another topic that
I don't know if we have time for today.
But I honestly think we need
to go to some style of like that
baseball format where you can
vote for five guys or
seven guys on this list, but they have
to get, you know, 75%
of the room and they're in because Larry Phillips would be in.
You know what I mean?
Like if you opened it up and said, all right, Tommy, you can vote for five guys and everybody
can vote for five guys.
Larry Phillips is going to get 75% of the room.
But the fact that he's got, you got to choose, you can only vote one time in that group
and you've got five guys to pick from.
That's where he kind of gets screwed.
The problem is, if you look at all the statistics and on the sheets, after Harvick gets in,
who's going to retire to win a championship to be in the Hall of Fame next?
there are no other people on the list.
Now, I hate to say, it's going to piss you off,
but all the statistics, everything that tells me,
Jeff Bodine,
Jeff Bodine is the next one to be on this,
in my opinion, on all the statistics
that's not in that modern era ballot.
He's the next one that needs to be in to have the chance
to be on the Hall of Fame.
I'm with that, and here's why I want Jeff Bodine
to be in the Hall of Fame,
because Dale Sr. recognized him.
Yeah.
That guy come out of nowhere.
He came down here and he showed up for the northeast.
Yeah.
I mean, and he could drive.
Jeppadide is a great race car driver.
Won the Daytona 500.
I mean, revolutionized, you know, Harry Hyde and...
Designed the power steering.
You know, he was the one that did all that.
I mean, it's just...
I'm with you on that.
But again, it's like that is probably to me, I've been...
I think this is my fifth year being on the voting panel.
that tomorrow is going to be the hardest
hardest decisions
for the second
how many you get out of it
Kenny you're voting right now you get two from the top
and one from the bottom I believe yeah
well I mean it's really simple right
Kevin Harvick is number one
and I'm going to go with
well listen
Biffle's going to get in here's what it's going to be two
it's going to be Harvick and Biffle
but you could also go
Harvick and say Tim Brewer
how many championships Brewer got two
man so I mean I
remember Brewer was a badass in his day, buddy.
But you look at that, you look at, then you go by stats, Kenny.
Neil Bonnet has the best stats out of all those guys except for Kevin Harvick.
Well, then Neil Bonnet.
And look at all the things he's done outside broadcasting, all the things he did, right?
So that's going to be a fight, right?
Jeff Burton, right?
He doesn't have the statistics that, but look again what he's done and for the sport.
Safety.
Right.
Ray Elder.
No one even knows Ray Elder.
You know how many championships that guy won out West?
All of them.
Right. So it's like, oh my God, you know, it's like...
Even like Randy. You know, Randy's on track.
When he was in here a couple months ago, whatever, I said,
the stuff you've done on track has been more important for the stuff than you did off track than you did on track.
I mean, he's a multi-time champion, but like the seat stuff that he did and innovations for safety is why I would put him in tomorrow.
What is the difference between modern Arabel?
In other words, Randy Joy could be in pioneers. Is that mean old?
Well, he'll end up, if the, certain amount of times,
some of these guys will end up in the Pioneer.
Yeah.
Which, I don't.
The seats and the safety for Randy, I mean, I see him in Pioneer because he was a pioneer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And all those guys that are on there, I mean, we're pioneers.
I mean, it's going to be tough.
Like, I think, honestly, and I don't know if you can agree with,
everybody on that list is going to, should be in the Hall of Fame.
They're all great.
Yeah.
But the problem is going up against each other.
I wish you, like, and if you don't get the votes, you don't get the votes.
But like, if you open it up to where you can vote for more people, the people that deserve.
And three years, then there'll be people on there that won't deserve.
But then they won't get in, is my point.
If you don't get enough votes, you don't get in.
You know, like, you can add them to the ballot and they don't get in.
They don't get in for five years.
Take them off the ballot.
I've been consistent.
I know, I'm nobody.
And for the people that are going to get mad of me, I already know that.
I already know that I'm rusty's a little brother.
I'm going to push a transnational guy.
So I'm going to say it.
I just cannot believe that you can have the great Dale Sr., Richard Petty, Jimmy Johnson,
and then put somebody from the O'Reilly Auto Parts series right next to him.
I got a problem with that.
Whether anybody at this table agrees with me or not, I just, it blows, wow.
And even Dale Jr. is saying that's the way it should be.
I'm like, well, then you're both wrong.
Because, I mean, who are you going to put next to those guys?
You said it on your, and I agree with you.
Schraders should be in the Hall of Fame.
You can put Schrader next to Petty.
There's got to be different.
It should be O'Reilly Auto Parts Hall of Fame.
No, it's the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
It's not the Cup Series Hall of Fame.
You know, I heard you say that.
And I agree with you.
You know, Schrader absolutely should be in a Hall of Fame.
His stats don't say that.
But what Schrader did for our sport and what he did for short track racing and dirt track
racing, like he deserves to be in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, I think.
But like you talk about stats.
Like he's got what, like three or four cup wins?
We know we've hit a nerve.
because it's a hot topic.
It's fun.
It's fun.
It's tough, man.
I'm telling you,
and tomorrow is going to be tough.
And I think that the one thing
that you don't remember,
because you can't sit here
and tell me you don't think
like Jack Ingram shouldn't be
in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Like he was the Bush series,
I feel like back in the day.
And you're not going to have this
with anybody besides crafting an Allgaier.
Because there is no more,
nobody stays in that series long enough.
And I don't think Justin,
I think Justin deserves recognition
for what he's done
over the however hundred years he's been running O'Reilly or Xfinity or Bush and Kraftin, same thing.
Like, you can't tell the story of the truck series.
You got, Jack Spray is going to be sitting there for a long time before Kraftin.
I mean, I don't think Kraftin should go in tomorrow.
I know, but it's going to be years.
It's going to be years before Jack Spray gets in there.
That's fine.
Years.
Again, another reason why I think you need to change the way you vote.
Hey, none of it bothers me.
I'm just like, what?
You're going to put Jack Sprague next to Dale Senior?
I'm like...
I feel like it's just you can't tell the story of the truck series without crafting horse brake for obviously.
You remember when they came out and they were teasing about Herbst with NASCAR?
And he says the O'Reilly series has an identity problem.
We need to run electric cars so they have their own identity.
That's kind of my point.
there is an identity problem.
The O'Reilly series is O'Reilly racers.
It was my home because I wasn't talented enough to be in Cup,
but I fit in really good in O'Reilly.
That was my talent level.
My talent level was an O'Reilly racer,
not a cup racer, although I ran a lot in Cup.
That's just what I see.
Hey, man, you're a really good O'Reilly racer,
but when you, that wall between O'Reilly Garage and Cup garage,
that some bitch might as well be 300 feet tall.
Yeah.
And I agree with you.
If it was the Cup Series Hall of Fame, you'd be 100% right.
It was fun.
We could have a whole episode on the Hall of Fame proceedings.
Brought to you by America's Navy, forged by the sea.
Find out what job is right for you at Navy.com.
We have a competition against the action detrimental team of Travis and Jared.
Me and Dalton have to take them on.
Yeah, we're doing a Navy Strike Group event.
It's happening at the Charlotte Motor Speedway,
Friday.
We're Dirty MoMedia's going to be taping it.
There's going to be some social post coming out.
Stay tuned, guys.
It's going to be interesting.
Dalton, I hope you're ready for this.
I'm ready.
Yeah.
I mean, Travis doesn't scare me in the slightest.
Yeah, I mean, as long as you're doing all the physical activities for us, I think
we should be fine.
Yeah, I think the only Navy that Travis could make it in his old Navy, to be honest.
And Jared does scare me a little bit.
Like, he's like if Greenpeace had Navy SEALs.
So I think that I think that I'm a little nervous for that.
But I'm ready to take him on.
That's for sure.
I'm just ready.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
We have a bunch of different challenges.
We've got to go to some physical, some mental.
We'll see how my stature holds up in the physical challenges.
Sounds like he picked the wrong guy on DBC.
Well, no, your blood pressure has to stay 127.
It don't matter.
My blood pressure is always there.
But no, we're going to have a lot of fun on Friday,
and we can't wait to bring you guys some of the action.
It's going to be fun, I hope, if I survive.
It's going to be a little sore.
Yeah, I think so.
Last time Freddie did something athletic was kickball golf.
And he couldn't walk for two weeks.
I think you've got Travis covered by a long shot.
Tommy, we always talk about winning race is important to us,
just like winning is important to these guys.
And it takes everybody on the team pulling the rope in the same direction.
Everybody has their role.
Everybody contributes.
And the Navy's no different.
Yeah, I mean, fortunately, the Navy is a little bit better than most race teams
because we team to mess up sometimes on pit road.
but I'll tell you the Navy executes on a daily basis.
I mean, they have no choice.
And to be trained like them and to go out and protect us,
it's something special.
Yeah, I mean, every role matters,
whether you're a fighter jet or one of the guys on the ground,
it takes everybody pulling the same direction
that contributes to the winning.
Yeah, I mean, it starts pretty much the same way as us.
It starts from the beginning of training, right?
And these guys started training, they move up, they learn.
And like you said, they could be on the ground or in there,
but they got to execute.
It's about being part of something bigger than just yourself, right?
I mean, at the end of the day, we're all here to win together.
Yeah, and the Navy's protecting all of us, so they are pretty big, right?
And, you know, kudos to them.
Every chance I get, I get to, you know, feel that I need to shake their hand
and thank them for everything that they do.
And, you know, just like winning a race with your team, right?
You thank them, and it goes a long way.
All right, America's Navy, forged by the sea.
Start your journey at Navy.com.
I am looking forward to this next portion of the show, especially with our current guest.
It is time for reaction theater, where fans can call in and voice their opinions from this weekend's race.
So let's hear from the fans.
I got two words for you.
Fuck, Eddie Hamlin.
That's three.
Perfect.
Close.
That's three.
Kyle Busch just got his 69th career series win in the truck series.
So I'll leave it up to y'all's imagination what me and my wife will be doing tonight.
Shout out Natalie Decker.
I didn't hear the end.
Start over there.
Or did he say go Natalie Decker?
Kyle Bush just got his 69th career series win in the truck series.
So I'll leave it up to y'all's imagination what me and my wife will be doing tonight.
Shout out Natalie Decker.
Shout out Natalie Decker.
Yeah, well, that's not, I hope y'all had fun.
Yeah.
Enjoy.
I'd rather have Cletus and Squirrel McNutzac in the Cup series or any series
than ever have to watch another second of another entitled prick like Corey Day.
Entitled?
What did Corey Day do?
I didn't think that one was fair.
Corey Day doesn't make any sense.
Corey Day is like Jimmy Johnson.
I think they grew up in trailer parks.
I mean, they put their time in.
Yeah.
Disagree.
I think that's a pretty idiotic take.
He got no knowledge.
His talent was spotted.
Low IQ.
Yeah.
Corey or that guy?
Makes no sense.
This next one actually isn't even a call.
Sometimes we get text messages.
And they just sent the eight ball emoji and a plug and the bathtub.
Oh, like Kyle Bush fan, I assume.
So they just, they, I thought that was going somewhere else when they started us.
Yeah.
I'm like, Kenny.
Kenny, what's going on?
But, yeah, they, Kyle, again, you see this all the time.
Speeding penalty caught up in a wreck the next, like that restart, you know, because you're pretty just, he was running really well.
He's up in the top five or seven and then speeding penalty or whatever the pit road penalty was.
and next thing you know, you're piled into a wreck.
Remember what I said earlier?
So far, we have two callers.
They hate Denny Hamer.
They hate Kyle Busch.
Everybody hates everybody.
Yeah.
It's pretty much the way it is.
No matter who it is.
All right.
That is it.
To leave an audio message.
We suck this week.
Yeah, that was not good.
Yeah.
I'm disappointed.
I thought Kenny would draw some more,
a little more.
I was hoping that they'd bad mouth me.
Me too.
Every week.
Every week I hope somebody bad mouths.
Come on.
To leave an audio message 24.
You can call our number at 704-802-9572, and we will play the best, well, the best of the worst is what we've had this week.
Best ones each week on the show.
Hey, everybody, this is Dale Jr.
And for the latest DBC gear, go to shop.dirtymo Media.com.
We've added some new shirts.
There's one called Win or lose.
We're drinking booze.
Everything seems to be about drinking here at Dirty Mo Media.
Go check it out now.
Show Hall of Fame.
I was surprised when I saw the group chat buzz and talked.
Tommy had sent an entry.
I didn't know he...
Which one did you send?
I don't remember.
Was watching...
Dirt race.
Brewington.
Brewington?
Oh, yeah.
That was a big one.
That guy was sideways all the way to the start, finish line.
Took out of the whole field.
It's like, let off the gas.
I did see another supermodified fly out of the ballpark at Tyler Thompson,
somewhere up in Canada.
I saw that.
That you got to go look.
You got to find this video of...
the car jumping the fucking thing
in the police chase. Do you see this?
This guy hangs a right. He goes to get away from
a cop and doesn't realize he drives
off into a gully. And when I tell
he is 50 feet in a hair.
I wish I could see it. Well, you can look it up just like
everybody else can. How do you look it up?
On Twitter. There's a thousand videos. Go ahead and get one.
On ours?
Yeah. It'll be on ours tomorrow if it makes the cut here.
So everybody needs to go to ours.
Yeah. That's exactly right.
And I still won't see it.
Yeah. 50 Waymo's in the neighborhood. I didn't see this
Number one.
Number one.
Really?
Because, you know, autonomous cars are the thing of the future, and like 50 of them have a glitch,
and they all go to this subdivision.
Or 50 cars with nobody in them.
They all go to this subdivision, and they can't turn around so they're doing like this.
50.
Autonomous, whatever that word is, cars.
Have you gotten any of these things yet?
Have you written a new one?
No, but I saw them down there at Circuit of the America.
We went downtown little taco joint, and we're watching.
And we're like, oh, my God.
So we were, so Cirque of Americas, we're down there.
I might have been out on Saturday Night for a little bit.
Luckily, I was not out too as late as I normally would be because the bar across the street from us had a shooting.
So, like, I'm getting text in the morning.
Like, are you okay?
And I'm like, my crew chief, everybody okay.
And I'm like, yeah, why?
What the hell is?
Like, I wasn't that drunk last night.
You know what I was.
I'm okay.
And, but then I saw, I go back and watch clips and there's a damn waymo blocking the road.
They're everywhere.
And like the cops and the ambulance can't get to the bar
Because this thing is like Austin Powers
Like back and forth between the curb
The cop gets out and knocks on the window
I'm like hey
There's nobody in there
Now here's the other way to look at those
Those cars is they turn theirself around
They didn't wreck
Yeah
So I would put the car jump in the police chase
That was so funny
The Waymo's for sure
The big one at Brewarton
And find that super modified flying out of the ballpark
at a in Canada. That was another big one.
All right, you can check out those nominees in our YouTube
description. Tommy,
make sure you're listening to this part two. And then you can also vote
on Dirty MoMod Media's X profile.
All right, time to move on to AskDBC
where these questions are
submitted by our fans in advance.
So Kenny, is there
any chance of seeing you get back in a
truck like Clint Boyer and Jamie McMurray?
I would leave that to you, Tommy. What should I do?
Yes. Why should I do that?
Because that's you, Kenny.
There you go, everybody.
Chris Rice, call him.
Richmond.
Martin Zool of Richmond, yeah.
Yeah.
Ain't that funny you know that about me, don't?
Rockingham, Barnesville, and Richmond,
your three best places.
Yes, my jam, baby.
Did you have anything for Dale in the 2000, Winston 500?
Boy, that is quickly.
at the start finish line
when Junior and Skinner
were getting together, I had,
I could have pulled out, I had a run,
but I looked at my mirror and I'm like, who is that?
It was my teammate, Joe Nemechek,
with a complete different paint job.
But all these years later, I was on Happy Harvick,
and he asked me the same deal,
and I said, oh, I don't know.
Harvick made me feel better.
He said, you did the right thing.
They wouldn't have went with you.
I said, see, that's what I was thinking.
Yeah, yeah.
And then just everyone at the table here.
What is a local spot that fans should check out if they are coming to the Charlotte Moresville area for the 600?
Besides Big Al's.
Don't go to Big Al's.
I don't want to service to slow down over there.
We don't want our table to get taken.
Yeah, Big Alas is one of my favorite spots.
Obviously, we go there a lot.
Now it's getting infiltrated, I think, a little bit.
I don't want to talk about it, but we have some issues.
There's too many people showing up on Sunday nights.
Is there?
But, yeah, so that Big House is fun for me.
I don't know.
Smoke pits is a really good barbecue place.
It's one over here now.
There's one not far from the racetrack and Concord there.
I don't know.
What else do you think?
I mean, it depends on.
They want to have a nice dinner.
Go to Epic Steakhouse.
Epic Steakhouse.
Caruso is good.
Caruso is the best, probably closest thing to New York Italian restaurant.
Probably top five.
If you go visit downtown Moresville and you're looking for a lunch spot,
you could do Dolce and Delish.
and you could check out all the stars down there
that are on the sidewalk, all the NASCAR stars.
It used to be Tim's table.
Never heard of it.
By the Wells Fargo and downtown?
There's a lot of fun spots.
So I thought I gave a suggestion.
Sayise, go to Saiz.
Oh, boy.
But you can't go wrong,
Moresville and Canapolis.
You know what I mean?
Canapolis, downtown Canapolis
around the ballpark now is really nice.
We're going out there tomorrow for the
Cannaballers game.
But there's a big.
a bunch of breweries and stuff right there,
a couple local little Irish posts.
You can get Earnhard Outdoorsdale down there.
What the hell is it called?
Old Armour.
Old Armour.
Yeah, Old Armour Brewery.
That's, uh, and then right around the block is the Dale statue.
Yep.
So you go see Dale while you're there.
You can just earn hard it up while you're down there.
Um, all right.
DVC picks.
Tommy, you ended up, uh, on fire.
Freddie, you won for once.
You ended a really long dry spell.
Yeah.
Really long dry spell.
It happens.
He said, I've been in a dry spell since Phoenix.
Yeah.
I've been averaging like a sixth place finish
and can't win her fucking race.
Yeah, that's right.
All right.
So Kenny,
oh, Kenny was on fire.
I mean, Tommy was on fire.
Tommy picks first.
Where are we?
Oh, yeah, Charlotte.
We're going to Charlotte.
Larson.
Larson.
Who goes now?
Guess.
Kenny, so anybody that's not great out
or you can't pick Larson?
In this last thing right here.
Yeah, this whole thing.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
I am going to go with
with,
Oh, man, hold on.
Hold on.
You know what?
Way too many decisions for Kenny.
Yeah, I'm just going to try to cheer him on.
I think Keselowski going to finally get his first win.
It's got to get all, you know, I'm a dark horse, but still, I wouldn't be surprised.
I'm going to go with Reddick.
Duh.
So, man.
Son of up.
I'll take Willie B.
I didn't use him at the beginning of the year
because after he started winning
I'm like well surely he won't win a third one in a row
surely he won't win another one.
I was going for the hero.
Wallace Pick Kesslaskie.
What the hell is he thinking?
So Kenny, at the end of these shows lately
we've been doing calling out shoutouts to winners
over the weekend over like either dirt tracks
or short tracks.
I've seen one pop up that was pretty cool this week I thought.
It's your brother Mike win a race this week?
Yeah, brother Mike yelled to my mom.
Mom, come in Victor Lane.
It might be my last win ever.
So Mike's been roughed up.
I love my brothers.
Love Mike.
Congratulations to brother Mike.
And it's time to cheer Mike on.
He's been roughed up enough.
I love Mike.
Yeah.
As you should.
Yeah.
He's your brother.
Yeah, but I mean, he just catches so much crap, you know, and he's awesome.
I mean, Mike, when I was growing up, if there was two foot of snow,
Mike was the one.
cleaning your dryway off.
Rusty was paying somebody.
I love both my brothers, but yeah.
Are they a little different?
Are they a little different?
Tommy, what do you got for winners?
I know.
Well, yeah, John McKinney
on the NASCAR modified tour,
Chris Young at Riverhead.
Great race, by the way.
It was a good race.
At Seekunk.
Chris Young at Riverhead, right?
Blake Barney, two in a row at Wall Stadium.
Yep, Riverhead.
Chris Young won,
Riloh, Keith, won the Legends.
Hubbard 1 Street Stocks, Ryan Zarkowski won the mini-stock race.
Don Conradis won with the old, look like a pulverary car.
I don't know if it was a legit one, but the Eddie Partridge All-Star vintage race.
Talked about Wall.
Barney won for a second weekend in a row.
Our buddy, Kyle Tarasca.
He won the TQ race.
Brian O'Shea won the factory stock.
Billy Pross won the four-cylinder.
Carson, you see anybody this week?
I was at Tri-County on Saturday.
I saw Lannon Huffman, him and Ronnie Bass.
I had a super awesome battle.
for the whole race pretty much for the lead.
That's really all I...
Huffman won, right?
Yep, Huffman won.
That's really the majority of what I consumed this weekend.
Let's go down the list then.
Thompson was Danny Cates, won a $5,000.
602 Crate race.
Thompson was awesome.
Jake Johnson won the late model race.
Riverhead we talked about.
Bowman Gray was a really good story.
Jason Myers won the first modified race.
Slate won the second race.
That's the youngest winner in the history of Bowman Gray,
which is Bert's son for everybody not familiar.
I think they said that's like the sixth Myers.
The fourth generation, six total Myers to win at the track.
So that's really impressive.
Zach or Billy Gregg won the sportsman race.
I saw Jordan Atkins won the street stock race.
Luke Smith and Brandon.
Brandon Brennan?
I definitely fucked that up somewhere.
Won the stadium stock race.
McCready won Selling Zerove at World All-Lay models.
Ziegler, you mentioned.
He won the Billy Win Classic last night at Bedford.
Rico wins Saturday.
Friday night at Eldora.
If you don't love RICO,
I don't know what the hell
you're doing in this world.
Shoehart won last night.
All this next bunch of stuff
was on flow, which,
Carson.

Majeski won the Triple Crown race.
It's Slinger,
David Oroot,
maybe the most awkward
eggs that I've been
modified I've ever seen.
Did you see how he got out of this thing?
He gets out of the car.
He wins Stafford,
SK race,
by the way.
He wrecked in the heat.
race. Yeah, wrecking the he race. He gets it out. He wins the, but he's got out and he stepped on the
bottom nerf bar. You know, the double, he's on the bottom one and I'm like, it's a good way to
break your ankle, I feel like. But yeah, he got out. Adam Gray, my buddy, won two weeks in a row. Nick Anglace
won the S.K. Light race. Ryan Plemons and Ryan Waterman won their races. Jordan Bauer won the Mars
at Quincy. Brandon Shepard won the Mars race at Cole County. Hudson O'Neill, Friday Night at Eagle.
Kyle Cummings and Brady Bacon won the USAC races at Eldora. Justin Sanders,
one Tulare, Chase Deets won Port Royal and Baps this weekend, a sprint car.
Scotty Nitzel, I'm definitely butchered that name, had a photo finish over Niehazzer
at the IRA race at Plymouth. Cody Clark won Fonda.
Stewie was ripping the top.
I thought he was going to get there, ran out of a lap left.
We talked about Mike Wallace, talked about Landon Huffman.
Shepard won Outlaw.
Yeah.
He won, I think, Lucas.
Shepard won Cole County.
No, Matt Shepard.
Oh, Matt Sheppard won Outlaw Speedway.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ty Fredrickson, he won a Superlamey Monter Race at Kekana.
Now, these are all fan submissions.
Spencer Rose, this is a funny one.
Spencer Rose's uncle, send me a message and he said,
can you please shout out?
My nephew won his first go-car race at Lebanon Valley.
He said, I want to be the worst uncle ever.
So Uncle Ray is not the worst, Spencer.
He shout you out.
Andy Bacchetti won.
I probably butchered that, too.
No, that's right.
He swept a big lock races at Lebanon Valley.
Joey Burge won the mod race at Devil's Lake in North Dakota.
Cody Struble.
we mentioned him on here a couple of times.
He was a spotter for the guy that won the Super Lay Model race earlier in the year.
He's ripping a sportsman series up and down at Citger County.
Colton Bettis, 16 years old, won the Auburndale,
sprint car race.
Matt Shepard, you mentioned.
Mark Shook was a Grand Slam winner at Plymouth in the All-L-Lay models.
Our buddy Austin Reeves won again with his Crown Vic.
He won a bunch of races earlier this year.
He said it's the sixth win in the Pensacola.
Who won the Arca Race?
Tristan McKee won the Archer race.
Jordan Gonder won
the Blind Brian Luttrell Memorial
Figure 8 race, Street Stock figure 8 race
at Speed drum, which is my favorite race of the week,
obviously. Ashton Tucker
won a Petty International in New Brunswick, Canada.
Ryan Michelson, Viking Speedway,
Minnesota, Caleb Johnson, late model race
at Colorado National.
Braden Egan, Nemo Lights Hudson,
a 64-year-old Brandon
Felhamley, sorry,
410 race at Tri-Tee, Sammy Swindell.
Say it right.
Slamming Samming.
70 years old won a
pavement midget race this week at Grundy
County. Connor Hall swept Langley
again, Hank Davis won Lernerville,
Andy J, won Lancaster, and Gary
Kluat won the NASCAR Canada race at
Canadian Tiremore Sports Park.
It's a lot of lots.
And the people that send it in it and I love it because
I love spending, I mean, that takes two minutes and it means the world of
some of these guys are the short tracks.
We need, at the end of Herman Schrader,
we just give a shout out.
We need to clip you every week and add you to a head.
That was impressive.
Good work.
That's why he's losing his voice.
Yeah, too many winners on the week.
It just, it means a lot to me.
That's where I grew up.
That's where I cut my teeth.
To be able to shine a little light on some of those guys is great.
So Kenny, what else you got going on?
This week, I know you're going to be here a fan day.
What else you can hear it all week?
Yeah, well, daughter, Brittany has two babies now.
She's my youngest one.
She says, Mom and Dad, can you please come down?
Help me with the kids.
Brody, my son-in-law, Bill's outlaw carts, and they're running Millbridge.
These next couple days are you in the running.
So really, I'm in town for Millbridge to watch the kids, me and Kim.
And then Herman Schrader, we're going to do that in the new Dirty Mo Studios.
And then, of course, the big show here, Thursday, May 21st, then Trackside Live Sunday out of the cup race,
John Roberts, Jose, myself.
Then we're going to Myrtle Beach.
Going to say our old fan club secretary.
She's living down there.
And then we'll go back to St. Louis on the 28th.
And May 30th, end of this month, I'm going to run my A-Mod and a B-Mod on the same night.
So that will be at I-55.
Oh, fun.
Yeah.
I love that race track.
I love that racetrack.
And Carson's like 12 minutes from my house.
Just so you know, that was not on the schedule.
It's my second, fourth race of the month.
I thought you're only doing two.
You know, two weekends.
My buddy called me, her and you want to, it's a good B-Mod.
So I'm like, will you park next to my car?
Tommy, kids racing this week?
Anything?
Luke in the truck at Charlotte.
He's running a truck.
Yeah.
And just a cup, yeah.
Carson, nothing?
Nope, just being a race fan at the 600 this weekend.
Yeah, I got a busy week.
We'll be here at Fand Day.
and we're hosting some of our car store partners on Wednesday morning,
doing a little gig for them,
and then kind of just, yeah,
the hustle and bustle of Coke 600 week in Mooresville.
It feels like I woke up this morning,
and like it feels like,
like I think it feels like the equivalent
to like going on a field trip in the fifth grade,
like when it's race week in Charlotte.
Like it's Coke 600 week.
The air just feels different and I'm excited.
Yeah, it's a fun week.
And get around, see it as different shops.
Look it up there.
I mean, damn near every shop is going to have a fan day.
and they try to space them out where they're not all the same day,
so you get to hit a bunch of different ones.
We're going to have a lot of fun here on Thursday.
There's a late model race up at Hickory on Thursday night,
UAR, the super late model race.
That'll be a lot of fun.
And then Tri-County, right?
ASA is at Tri-County.
No, both.
ASA is Hickering.
Both, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, so it's just a great week to be around here.
Kenny, thank you again for jumping in here with us.
It was as fun as expected and as long as expected, I think.
Hey, congratulations.
This is a great show.
I'm a big fan of it.
I really am because you guys say what you think.
I feel like if you're not, you're doing the disservice to the people.
Why would people listen?
They call bullshit on, yeah.
That's what I've always said my whole life.
Boy, I've been in trouble.
Hey, as bad as you might not want to admit it, me and you're kind of similar.
Oh, yeah.
We're both a little all-centered.
Yeah, you say it a little bit nicer than I do.
Kenny's just missing like two more screws than Tommy is.
There's Tommy over there.
That was your
That was awesome
Thank you guys for listening
Go listen to Herman Schrader this week
Of course
Another really fun show
With two legends of the sport
Even though they might not admit
Shredder's a legend
Not me
But thank you guys for listening
We will be back next week
We're out
Bye
