Door Bumper Clear - Kyle Larson & His Spotter Only Seem To Fight At New Hampshire
Episode Date: August 24, 2026Kyle Larson finally joins Door Bumper Clear — and he brought his spotter Tyler Monn with him. The guys get into Larson’s frustrating winless season, his wild weekend bouncing between Cup and sprin...t cars, and what it’s like working with Tyler after a last-minute change landed them together at Hendrick Motorsports. Larson also explains why he thinks NASCAR needs to stop babysitting wet-weather racing and let teams make their own calls on pit road. Plus, Larson breaks down racing SVG, the skills he’s picked up from watching the Supercars star, the Indy 500 double, Connor Zilisch’s future at Hendrick, and why Corey Day fans might need to trust the process. The guys also get into Tommy Baldwin’s struggles with his son Luke, which spotter complains the most, and plenty of the usual Door Bumper Clear nonsense. And yes, there’s talk about karaoke. Because apparently Tyler Monn is one of the best karaoke singers on the planet. The following is a production of Dirty Bowie.
This is the first time you've read the fucking sheet all year.
A bird's shit on my head.
That is what reaction theater is for.
Getting hammers and calling in.
Where did they speak?
Go.
I don't know.
Flax and crescent.
It's going to be gripped up.
Absolutely.
It's too idiots.
Bubba did not do shit, unfortunately.
Period.
Period.
Hey, what's up everybody?
Welcome back to Door Bumper Clear.
I'm Freddie Craft.
Spotter for Bubba Wallace and Gio Regiro on this week.
Thomas, how are you today?
Just got home from a nice 13-and-a-half-hour drive from New Hampshire.
Did you drive to Modify at Home?
Yeah.
That's good.
Should have left it there.
Fucking thing.
The car was fine.
Did you guys not have a good...
No, it was fucking fast like it always is.
And then it broke like it always does.
Spark plug.
The car didn't break.
Spark plug.
Second one this year.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Was I spotting for both of them?
What?
Both spark.
plug brakes.
Oh, New Samirna.
Thank you.
Trust me, I've been trying to quit this deal for a long time.
Carson, how are you today?
I'm great.
How was your weekend in Anderson?
Honestly, for the officiating side,
pretty unavimful, so I'll take it
for once.
How was the area?
I saw you, were you at the same bar every night?
I saw how much stories from...
Dude, I ended up on Clemson campus
on Thursday night somehow. I was at
Sue's Wings and Things, and next thing you know,
I was at a miniature rave in Clemson.
Joining us today, I think it's a mirage.
There's actually people from Hendrick Motorsports in the building.
I see there's PR people here.
There's a driver.
There's a spotter.
I don't know what the hell's going on.
I think I saw legal too.
Kyle Larson, we've been trying to do this for a long time.
Welcome to Doorbubber Clear finally.
Yeah, yeah.
Thanks for finally letting me on.
Yeah.
I don't know what change is around here, but now suddenly you became willing.
And we couldn't do it without your spotter here.
It's actually his fault.
You're here probably because I was going to have him on a couple weeks ago,
and you're like, no, we've got to do this together if we're going to do it.
Yeah, yeah.
He never had permission to come on.
I'm aware.
Then I finally gave him permission.
I'm like, if you go on, I have to go with you.
It's like supervision.
Tyler Mon, spotter for, your second job is spotter for Kyle Larson.
Your first job is the best karaoke singer on the planet.
Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, I put it on a tour this past weekend.
Really?
I got some good AI photos.
I think there's a tour date release shirt coming out at some points.
I'm just going to travel, yeah.
Have I never heard you sing?
You've never heard him sing?
He's legit.
Like usually I fuck around a little bit.
He is one of the best karaoke singers.
I probably ever heard.
I don't have to have a beer in me.
I mean, I can just walk up to something.
We are listening.
We have to get them with the pump.
We should hit a duet because I'm that way too.
I've got to told this story on here one time before.
But we're in Vegas and there's that bridge that runs from like the Aria to the Cosmo.
And we're walking across the bridge.
And there is a what I would assume is a homeless man.
out there with a microphone and a little speaker.
And he's belting out some classics.
And Tyler decided, you know, it's my turn.
He takes the guy a little bit of money, takes the mic.
And now Tyler is singing on the bridge that leads from the aria to Cosmo.
And I'm like, what a night.
I mean, was it beer involved in that one?
No, there was.
I mean, later.
It was early.
It was early.
It was still daylight.
And we were in Vegas, though.
talk about obviously
we're we've brought you on here
to try to end this winless streak is where we're
our number one goal is
I got what I mean I thought
I thought we're heading the right direction
after the stage win yesterday
but just talk about your season as a whole
obviously no wins is a big factor
but you guys are still in contention
you're up in the top 10 of points just as a general
how's the season going? Yeah it's been
not what we
exactly wanted but
I feel like a lot of times we've been better than we should have finished. And then there's times,
you know, here lately, except for the last couple weeks where we've been still decent and get
caught up in things. So yeah, I just keep inching at it and hopefully we'll hopefully we'll get there.
I think we're not as far off as it sometimes feels. And I'm sure you guys probably feel
the same way. You know, it's just so tight and so close out there. Yeah. It's you, you, you,
you have speed and you like, we just one mistake like, well, I fucked up at Iowa. We went from leading
the race to 25th. And then you just buried the rest of the day.
ended up with a 12th and it's like, well, car's great, but we're just, some little thing
screws up one time in the race. Usually it's Tyler's fault probably. Yeah. But, you know, talk about
your relationship with you guys, because I know back, you had Derek for a long time. You guys are
really tight to the point where, for some reason, you would call him daddy. That's a whole other
episode. That was before me. That was before you. Juan, Juan called him daddy. I didn't know that.
I thought you started that. Yeah. But it continued with you for some reason. But then you
move over to Hendrick. Tyler comes on. I assume you guys really had no relationship before.
that, right? I mean, how difficult does that go from somebody
you worked with for so long to a guy you've never worked with?
Yeah, I mean, he was just a backmarker spotter, and
I was just coming in, and we were just, we had some things
kind of happened late in the going, and couldn't get the spotter that we were
originally going for, and yeah, we were getting stuck with Tyler Mon.
That's all that was left. And, man, he's awesome. We really get along well.
I feel like I trust him a lot up on the roof
and I think he trusts me on the track sometimes.
I joke with him all the time that I clear myself.
We've seen.
Yeah, he's going to get trouble a couple times.
No, he's really good at what he does.
And I don't, I mean, I know you're sitting here,
but I can't imagine there's another spotter
that probably works as hard as him.
Working with Cliff Daniels, I think that's expected.
So, yeah, he puts in the work and I appreciate it.
We all do on the five team.
Yeah.
rather, price versa for you.
I mean, we talked about this when you said the basis of you is like,
just don't fuck this up.
You're going to be fine, you know, and how hard is it going in with that pressure of?
Because you were, I think, was it Rick Ware?
Like, where were you at before?
Yeah, I was at Rick Ware for two, three years somewhere in there.
Then, yeah, I mean, I...
It was a pretty big jump.
Yeah, it was a huge jump.
And it was different back then, you know, Rick's stuff like,
Rick stuff now runs good, right?
You know, they'll go a few laps down, but it is a totally different ball game from when it was back then.
You know, we used to go eight.
laps down, you know, during a race. And that was just raw speed and stuff like that that we didn't
have. So I've always said, man, you work way harder for them, you know, them guys back then. And
we probably should get paid more when you back when you were in time. Yeah. But no, it was cool.
You know, I made the transition over. It was obviously a last minute deal. And yeah, it wasn't my,
to be honest with you, I don't know if a lot of people know this story, but like Jefferson
Hodges called me about Penske and Oscentric was just coming in cup racing. And like, that was on a
Monday that he called me. He's like, hey, we're going to, you know, let you spot like six,
seven races for him. And, uh, you know, and we'll try to fill you in and we'll hire you.
You can do IndyCar and Emson and everything. Tuesday came around and, you know, Cliff calls,
hey, you know, this Cliff Daniels, crucially for the five. Are you interested in coming over here?
I'm like, no. No. No, I'm like, yeah, am I who's this? Let me think about it.
Yeah. So then, yeah, it all worked out. And then like, soon as I got the phone with Cliff, I called
Jefferson and obviously Jefferson worked with Kyle back at Rev Racing in the K&N series and
Jefferson told me he's like look if they offer you a deal and you don't take it you don't have a deal
here he's like he'll be the greatest race car driver you ever get to work with so it was cool yeah
and you haven't fucked it up so good job good work on that talk about loud the other day
obviously good speed kind of top five-ish car all day long ended up would you finish sixth
fifth oh good yeah yeah so that's good um but this is something to
Bubba talks about, and I don't know how much you relate to it. Like he, like, I think he figured
out yesterday, honestly, but he feels like at this place, you're looking for a different feel
than you are almost anywhere else. Like, he was miserable all day long weekend. I feel like
a lot of guys are that are fast there because they have that like super uneasy balance of
just really free entry almost. But I mean, does that relate to you as well? Oh, yeah. Like practice,
I felt like I was the worst car on the racetrack. And I was just down about our car. I'm like, oh, my God,
this is me another weekend where we run 20th or worse,
and I'm going to be lucky not to crash.
And yeah, I remember coming in, I was like, dude, we were just terrible.
And then you look at lap times and the long run speed,
I actually was pretty decent.
So that gave me some confidence.
Like, all right, I just need to like study here a little bit overnight
and not give up.
And then, yeah, I think, you know, watching a little bit on board, some SMT and all that,
like my balance felt better in the race.
I think you're always pushing harder in practice.
But yeah, you're still always on edge there.
You're trying to like enter as fast as you can, roll as much speed as you can.
The cars are like twitchy and edgy and you can't get to the throttle like you want to.
They're just, I mean, they're heavy-ass stock cars, but they feel so like nimble and just twitchy.
So, yeah, just 301 laps of that is, it's challenging.
And then at the end of the race, we had a long run.
And you were just sliding around all over the place.
you feel like death, but then you're catching these lappers.
Nobody's really come in your mirror.
I'm like, man, everybody must be struggling right now.
So it was fun for sure.
I imagine the Penske cars probably drove a little bit easier.
They probably didn't know what we're talking about.
Yeah.
But, no, it was fun.
The race went way better than I expected it to go for us.
I mean, getting a stage win and then finishing, I think, fifth maybe in the second stage.
And then fifth in the race was way better than I thought.
So we had a good day.
thought I thought it was funny.
And to your point, like Bubba said the same exact thing in practice.
Like we were like kind of matching pace with the 54 and he had one big moment in the
jury and he got loose in.
And he's like, see, that right there is why we're fucking slow.
I'm like, well, we're second on pace right now.
So like just go back to do what you're doing, please.
But talk about firing off in the rain, obviously.
That was exciting.
But then I felt like when it dried out, not surprisingly, but like I felt like the dirt guys
were the guys that could find the dry part.
I thought like that's when you kind of got to the front.
you, Bell, was really good then, too.
Except for Reddick.
Well, Reddick, Reddick is Reddick.
We know what he's going to do there.
I don't know.
I don't know.
He's something else.
But what was that transition like for you, like full wet to like partially dry and then obviously
he got back to normal?
Yeah.
No, it was fun.
I like, I like that because we're always, well, during that, we're trying to learn
on the fly.
So it's like whoever can figure out the quickest is going to be really good.
And I was kind of bummed it myself in our car because in the rain, I thought we'd actually
be a lot faster than we were, but those guys were kind of driving off from us, and then I kind of made
a run back to it as the track was drying. I think I was able, just because I was slow, take care of
my tires better. But then, yeah, the next little piece of the race once we put on drys was a lot
of fun because the track was still kind of damp in some places, and you really had to, like, visually
scan the racetrack, which is not something you typically do a whole lot on pavement, but in dirt. I mean,
you're doing that every caution even under green you're scanning the track so um yeah i thought
uh i did a good job of like moving around to the right parts of the track at the right time just
being like a lap or two ahead of the guys in front of me and was able to get to lead and i think
bell and i were on the same sort of you know we we saw the same hands and uh that was fun that was
that was cool because i i believe bell and i are probably two the best dirt racers out there so
to go to the cup series and like use what we learn on the dirt to get to the front of
run two spots was, uh, was awesome. But yeah, that whole first stage was cool. Yeah. Tyler,
how much fun was it watching SVG just wax our asses? Like, I know, he took off.
It's like, they're like, where's he running? I go to the same fucking line. The rest of us are
running. Yeah. And he got up top and I'm like, I even told Cliff on Channel 2. I'm like,
man, he's going to burn his shit up, right? Like, he just kept going and going and going. And then,
um, yeah, I'm sure if it probably kept going, if they didn't throw that caution at lap 40,
I thought that he would have what you were all dying though. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
It was, yeah, we were used up.
We had no front tires at that point.
But I was watching him, like, how frustrating.
Like, that guy drives me crazy.
Because obviously, we've already not been able to match what he does on road courses.
But then I'm just watching and he's literally running the same line of everybody else is.
Just three-quarters of a second faster than everybody.
It's the same thing.
Yeah, I mean, he's learned that from the super cars, man.
Yeah, I don't know.
Some feel that he has for like a soft, gummy tire like that is incredible.
Because I felt like I'm going as good as.
I possibly can while not damaging the tire
and my shit's still more damage than he is
and I'm going three quarters of a second slower
so I don't know how he does it
it's fun to watch though like I think as a competitor
I mean you have to appreciate that
you know especially I mean he's done it on a road course
so it's I mean you can appreciate that for sure but then he comes to an oval
yeah and and is just waxing us
I told I told he got to like he was like a straightaway back of us
and I'm like I say hey don't fuck around here because like he's coming
and he's coming fast.
Like, he's going to be there in 10 laps if this pace keeps up.
And, uh,
and, uh,
Bubba's like,
that fucker was asking me for rain tips.
He's like,
have you learned,
I mean,
obviously you're one of the best race car drivers in the world, right?
Have you learned anything from somebody like SVG looking at his data?
I mean,
you can look at it all you want,
but to like,
I'm speaking of a,
replicating it.
Yeah,
I'm speaking of like a road course,
but like to replicate it is,
is hard.
And,
and sure,
I'm sure I've gotten better,
you know, 5% better, maybe since he's joined the sport.
But I think we're so far off of him still.
And I think when I say 5% better, I feel like not necessarily like how to extract speed out of the car,
maybe a little bit of longevity looking at how he does things.
But I think he's really changed the racecraft more than anything for the rest of us.
I think all of our racecraft has gotten a little bit better,
seeing the moves that he's made and things that I didn't think was really possible.
passing zones and stuff like that. So that's for me as a driver. I feel like he's improved
all of us. For the competition side of it, Tommy, like the lap 40 caution, obviously they gave us, I don't know
like five laps, no heads up that they were going to do that. Um, is we want that or do we want to just
kind of see what happens and, and maybe open it up. I know we have to be safe on pit road, but
do we want to leave it up to the teams? Like, hey, if you want to come fucking bolt some sticks on this
thing, come on. And maybe we have a different set of rules where that, you know, you can't jump over the
wall because obviously we don't want guys slut. Pit road is still a little wet. But like, can we get to a
place where it's up to us instead of just throw a caution, put tires on and re-rack them?
Well, I think he touched on it. I think it's all about pit road. I mean, we got to look out for the
safety of the guys. You know, it's pretty important. I mean, you saw yesterday one little mistake
with with Bell there leaving when the jack dropped it and noticed his guy didn't run across
his car. I don't understand. Everyone's like, well, no, I mean, can't you see your guy run across
Well, anyway, I mean, when I'm, you know, it's slick, right?
Tires will war out.
You'll come down pit road.
You'll slide through the thing.
You'll hit the guy.
I mean, they got to be careful with that.
But I would think it's going to be a time where everybody has run long enough on the rain tires, put on such a good show.
They're going to have to make it part of the race to make it and put it in the team's hands to take a gamble and put on dries or wet.
Would you rather have that decision left up to you?
Yeah, for sure.
Really.
like, you know, just, hey, I think we all would.
Like, I think they can have a rule where it's like, you know, it's almost like the all-star qualifying.
Like, don't jump over the wall to the cars in the box.
Like, you got to stay on because obviously he's going to slide through.
That'd be the biggest concern, I think.
But, you know, and there's obviously other guys.
So it's tough.
But, like, I just love to see that go back into the team's hands.
Yeah, for me, I mean, I think, I don't even think they need to implement any sort of rule like that.
I think.
It's on you guys?
Yeah, like, we're going to be, I'm thinking of myself.
Pit road's slick, pit box is slick.
I'm going to come in slower, you know?
So it's already a slick pit road, whether you're on war out dry tires.
So I'm going to come in slower.
And if you come in a little hot and slide through your side, that's on you.
Kyle's not paying the insurance.
Well, I mean, I'm curious what, like, pit crew members think if they would rather do it.
I feel like our guys would love to do it.
Oh, everyone would.
Yeah.
And, too, for me, I think we've been doing this rain thing long enough now.
It's gone well.
There's other series that do live pit stops in the rain.
every other series does live pit stops in the rain.
Why can't we?
And bring in that element of strategy
and I think that's where the good teams can rise
or even the slower teams like an SVG.
Like he would have really smash the field
if we would have or he would have had a lot of cars a lap down
I think if they would have opened the strategy up.
So yeah, it's, I think it's just time.
Like we have the experience of doing it.
Just let us just open it up.
Why do you got to hand up?
Which I feel like back then they did.
remember the Roval one year.
Like, I know like Pit Road got dry.
They competitive tie dealing came down and yeah.
When he was in the 13 car and he drove, you know, everybody else was still in rain tires.
He took slicks and yeah.
I feel like they always, that always that first switch is always like up to them.
Yeah.
And then they maybe ended up, you know, open it up later.
But by the time they open it up, it's.
I don't mind them declaring the first thing whether, you know, like, yes, obviously it was wet.
But they declare it's rain tires to start with.
I don't mind that.
but after that, it's a race.
Let us figure it out on our own.
All right, guys, it is that time.
The Make-M-M-M-Murch competition is nearing it in.
Top 5 designs go live on August 26th at 11 a.m.
On the Dirty Moe Media merch store,
and they will be live for 14 days, so two weeks.
Make sure you get your purchases in.
Top three win, cash prize for all three.
$200 to the winner.
I am honestly excited to see what our fans' feedback is on them
and which one actually wins.
Because I have a feeling which one we think it might be.
We might end up surprised.
There's two that I think are going to win.
I won't say which.
Obviously, I've said a couple of times on here.
But yeah, there's, I love that car one.
I'm going to say that right now.
That car one's badass.
But thank you guys for all, all the submissions were really good.
There was a shitload of them.
It's always fun.
We had to weed somehow.
There was a lot of AI.
But we tried to do the best we could with some of the most original ones.
We also could do a lot more if we didn't have a legal department.
Yes.
Yeah, that was, there was a problem there with some of the dirty mobies.
DBC fans specifically.
There was stuff we could never put on a T-shirt, but we appreciate you guys for trying anyway.
I just want to ask him a couple of course.
It's intriguing to me of watching.
I've always watched everyone get out of, you know, watching race and out of street stocks or modified.
Like, you just got out of a couple weeks ago, Richmond and a cup car.
And you had to go run the spring car.
car, and you do it a lot, right?
What's your mind?
Like, tell everybody, like, how your thought processes when you're getting ready to get
in that sprint car or vice versa, knowing the surroundings and what you have to do.
What goes on?
Not much.
Not, I mean, honestly, just because I've done it, you know, my whole career, really,
of bouncing between a lot of different types of cars, whether it be even back in 2011,
a sprint car one day, a midget the next day, pavement midget the next day, and, and,
non-wing sprint car the following day.
So like your mind kind of gets used to adapting quickly.
And then now, I mean, it's just like a cup car and a sprint car.
And I do that so often that it's not hard to switch on.
And back in 2011, I would have to like sit in the car and be like,
all right, I'm in this car.
It likes this.
I need to look for this feel.
But now, I mean, it's just like, I mean, you just buckle your seatbelts on and buckle
your helmet and go.
So, yeah, the Richmond to Knoxville thing wasn't.
like overwhelming to me at all. I just, I had time, too, on the plane to kind of relax and
and just slowly build into the buildup of the Knoxon Nationals. And, too, I was starting on the
pole. I'd ran there all week. I felt like the track conditions were going to be a little
easier than they've been all week. So I was fairly confident. It wasn't going to take me
but a corner to get up to speed. Do you think it was good strategy at Richmond for Cliff to tell you
could possibly go to Knoxville so you'd go half a second fast for the rest of the race?
Ironically, ironically, it definitely seemed like once he told me, I was like, oh, let's go fast now.
No, I really think our car got better at that point.
I will say after he told me, I was like, all right, do not crash now.
I was like, everybody's into think, oh, close to talk.
Well, not that.
Just like, oh, he completely lost focus on this cup race.
Is there any similarities now between those two?
the cup car and the sprint car of like feel?
Not feel, no, but racing's racing.
So, I mean, like, anytime you're in a racing situation,
no matter what car it's in, I think that all kind of translates.
So, yeah, I mean, I think, yeah, the way you drive it definitely not the same,
but I think restarts and the aggressiveness and like yesterday when it rained and you have
to hit the bottom, you can't slip off that lower asphalt, like that sort of thing
of being precise and hitting your marks is all the same.
It's all relative.
But yeah, it all helps.
How many months of planning did the Indy double take and then how many hours of planning did the Knoxville double?
Yeah, I think, I mean.
Was there a plan in place?
I mean, I knew there's obviously a chance.
But like, did you have something in place like if it happens or did that all just kind of come together during the race?
Yeah, I mean, there wasn't honestly like much planning that there, I felt like needed to be other than stage the car until
the pilots where we're going. Yeah, where we're going. So, and that's kind of ultimately, I feel like
what it was. But, yeah, I mean, I had, I had let the pilot know maybe a couple days before, like,
hey, I don't think this is going to happen. But if somehow, we may go back to Pella. And then,
yeah, obviously during the race, it was looking that way. So, yeah, they were able to organize,
get my car staged and then, yeah, communicate with the pilots where we were going. So,
It wasn't as, I mean, maybe it was for everybody else,
but it wasn't like as hectic and chaotic as the double was.
I think that was, that was, everything was just more like planned out and fast-paced
and like, you have to hit this time.
And that's a bit stressful.
Yeah.
How was it double for you, Tyler?
It was all right, you know.
I'll be honest, like spotting indie cars was, you know,
obviously first time I ever done it, you know, two years ago with him.
And when the race starts, you know, it's a lot of,
It's almost like when we go to Daytona Talladega,
it's a lot of, you know, who can save the most fuel
and have the shortest, you know, pit stop,
and then who gets out front,
then it's a race at the end.
But, like, the practices, and, like,
when they turn the boost up,
there's nothing else like it.
I mean, it's kind of incredible.
So, yeah, it was fun.
I'm glad I got to do it.
I just want to go back one time
to the Indy 500,
but I want to go to the snake pit.
I wanted me too.
You should be on stage.
You should probably be on stage of the snake pit.
We could probably work that out.
How did you fit in,
with all the other indie car spotters.
Were you like the cool guy up there?
Singing?
Were you singing?
No, no.
There is actually a lot of NASCAR guys that go and do the indie car stuff,
like the second spotter stuff.
So I knew a lot of them guys.
But go back to Snake Pit real quick.
Let's go back to your 40.
Let's not talk about the Indy 500.
We're racing.
You know, green flag drops, we're racing.
And you look over in the snake pit.
You're in turn three.
I'm in three.
Yeah.
So where the snake pit is, it's, you know, sits there right behind the dirt track right there,
you know, the midget track, and they're just like smoke, and they're just like, boom, boom, boom.
And like, they're just going around, you know, they have no idea of race that's going on.
And then about halfway through the race, you just see these people start walking away.
It's cleared out by the end of it.
Yeah, that is insane.
So, when did I, 24 was our first year?
Yeah.
So 23, we went and hung out and got to watch the start at 8500.
But I wanted to go to the stink pit.
And just to check it out.
So I went over there like 9.30 in the morning.
Oh, dude, it's like a all day.
I was going to say, then they have this like care center tent right outside of it.
There is people just laid out, like dead on these tables, you know, double I ved up at 930 in the morning.
You're getting ready, but it's going to be a long day.
They were getting ready for the race.
Maybe he was prep.
Obviously Blaney kind of kicked our ass again there yesterday.
I thought he was the best car all day.
We made a little run out of him at the end, but he was on two tires.
we'll talk about that in a minute.
Yep, Bubba just kind of was chasing him down in traffic,
got into three, maybe a little hot one time,
trying to position himself a little better on a lap car,
and that was kind of the end of our race.
He said it got a bad vibration after that.
But it was kind of nice to be back in contention.
Well, you didn't mess anything out.
I didn't fuck anything up like I did the whole day before.
But, yeah, no, it was a fun race, though.
I thought it was fun to watch.
I mean.
Yeah, no, I was watching.
It was good.
I know he was fast at getting to him,
but when in the middle of the race,
or when Blaney got behind the 21,
it took him 15, 20 laps or so to get by him.
It was going to be, unless he moved him,
which...
Oh, we were going to move.
Okay.
Yeah, that wasn't going to be a problem.
Yeah.
Unless he moved and there was no way he was going to get...
Yeah, we were probably going to cry.
It was probably going to look like my race on Saturday.
Be honest with you.
Yeah, what were you?
Well, I wasn't...
You aren't driving it.
No, I wasn't.
And my only regret in that moment with Gio,
is what I wanted to say
is what I should have said on the radio
like everybody on the property
knows you're going to go and turn one
in a crash right here
so please don't
and I just I was nicer about it
and it was like hey man just like
don't throw your whole race away
don't throw like we were
we were going to gain a spot in points
chase cutoff race
and just overcooked it
like he's just he has a mindset of
he has to win
and he's going forward
and he's trying a little too hard
I mean he's got speed
he does everything right
we just have to get better
at executing late restarts
but credit to Lane Riggs
and we're going to talk about him in a minute.
They're just, they're hitting on all cylinders right now.
But yeah, I think the cup race is good.
There was a lot of guys, Gregson, Barry, Josh Barry.
Gregson was on last week.
Tenth is like a win for no one.
Daytona might be tough.
We're going to go to Daytona.
Yeah, this could be it.
This is it.
Kyle's all happy.
Josh Barry had a really good run all day long.
They kind of get kind of not penalized, but losing ground on Pid Road.
He would just drive back up in there.
Himabubub had a really fun.
on racing.
That was sick.
He got to us.
He got to us
just way late at us
one time in the episode.
He apologized.
He apologized.
He's like, man,
I'm going for my job here,
man.
I hope everybody understands.
If they don't understand
and get me back,
I understand.
But I hope everybody understands.
I'm like,
that's a good way to put it.
He apologized.
He said the same thing
to me after race too,
because he ran into me earlier
and then I guess he ran
the 54 through me.
So I was like,
what the fuck?
I also like the whole time,
like, all right,
you know,
he's racing hard here.
needs to
and it was,
it was fun to watch.
His car looked like
he'd race
at Martinsville.
No,
he did a good job.
The race with
him and Bubba
or yeah,
him and Bubba was fun
at the windshield.
It was like,
yeah,
crossovers.
And then the yellow
came out and Bubba's like
backing up to swerve at him
and he hits
priests and priests
are pissed off.
I'm like,
this is great.
Listen, I never said my guy.
Are you talking to yourself
during all that?
Are you going,
I'm just laughing.
It's usually
commentating.
It's a button
to commentate for it.
Yeah,
I mean,
it was a really fun race. We had a good race for priests up there. It was
fun to spot. It was good to be
fast there and up front and that's when you're
stuck back in 15th, that could be like the longest race of the year.
But I thought it was a fun race overall.
But I did want to shout out for Gregson.
He did run a really good race.
Zane was a lap down at one point.
Zane was up there. His restarts were crazy.
Yeah, I saw some of the last night. He was pretty good in practice.
I was standing in
one and two with Chad.
We were watching and
full car was pretty good.
He's good.
man. I don't know where, like, obviously he locked his deal up.
Now, Josh running well. Hopefully him and his agent Dale Jr. can get themselves something locked up here pretty soon.
I don't know what he's, I don't know where he could go. It sucks because he should be part of the series, but just musical chairs at this point.
But yeah, that's, what else you got, Carson?
Well, some BS we have.
Not much else on the cup race. Truck series race. Thomas?
Listen, Luke didn't have a good day in the truck series.
he's it's
Luke
Luke had a tough weekend
obviously missed the show
a lot of trucks showed up
I don't know
It's weird
It's not an excuse
I know no no no
Listen he didn't make the race
He's slow he didn't make the race
No he wasn't slow
He was 19th in practice
Okay
He just
He was slow and qualified
Just just a lot of things
added up to
From the end of practice
To qualifying that
There was a loss
Of thought process
and when he got in the truck to go qualify,
it just, look, it's, I don't know,
I'm blaming myself, man,
it's been a hard a couple days.
It was a long ride yesterday
because I thought I was doing a right thing
by putting him in a position this year
to run more races.
If we could run 14th to 20th and that,
it would be a good showing for him,
which the first three or four races,
that's where he was running
when he was getting a little bit of trouble,
He got loose getting, you know, passing trucks and shit happened, right?
But these last three races have been absolutely horrible.
And it's, you know, it all adds up, man.
It's just, you know, you don't have people around them.
I just, I'm blaming myself because I thought that this year getting a lot of laps learning.
I did it with priests, right?
When he moved down, I put him with Johnny Davis.
He didn't have any money.
He goes, I don't even know why we're doing it.
I said, well, you're doing it for a couple things.
you're going to get to all the racetracks, you're going to run all the laps, you're going to learn how to pit stop,
you're going to learn how to get on pit road. You don't have the money now, but you want to come down there and do this.
And it worked because when he had the opportunity and he had the money and he got in the Gibbs car, he won, because he already knew, right?
So I tried doing it this year with Luke the same way. Like, let's get him some laps. Let's learn some things.
And it just hasn't worked out, right? I mean, the kid's got speed. I mean, he gets in my car and he goes fast. He runs up front.
and everything he does in Sim is right.
You know, he goes with Lane.
He works hard.
And I know he's got it.
It's just I got to refocus.
I got to,
and I blame myself.
I don't blame him.
He's 20 years old, right?
And I should have did a better job.
The good news is I blame you too.
So that's,
I think it's all your fault.
Yeah.
And again, we're going to talk,
you know, Frankie Munez,
he gave up the truck again.
Which, by the way,
everybody, Tommy did not buy Frankie Munez out of his seat.
I saw a lot of that.
I don't have any money.
Tommy's got no money.
You know, we're doing this.
A little blood sweat, man.
I mean, it's just like, you know, they called me.
I'm like, it's not my decision.
If Luke wants to go run and get some laps, let him make the decision.
I don't, you know.
I wish you were to call me because I would have told you not to do that.
That was a bad decision.
But it wasn't his fault.
Again, that Sparta goes, they started a race checking up on the inside, clear on the outside,
and they're, they're.
Yeah, but what the fuck's even doing that close?
I know.
I know.
That's the mistakes we have to avoid.
Again, it's the people, it's the people surrounded, right?
We just got, I got to do a better job.
When he's with me, with the Modified, I'm focused around him, telling him what to do,
showing him what to do.
I didn't, I got an 84-year-old guy with me, Forrest, with the Modified all weekend, right?
And another 70- He looks 108, by the way.
I'm running around my head cut off doing everything.
I didn't have time, right?
And it just, it's, yeah, it's, he needs to be in better stuff.
Because when he's in better stuff, he runs well.
And then when he's not, I think he just makes mistakes trying to prove that he can do it.
And that's when you, like we talk about on here all the time.
Look, he's passing for 14th at Dover with 30 to go, right, in that truck, right?
He didn't do anything different than your guy did with $3 million a year, you know, at the end.
So it was a mistake.
So, like, it's a learning thing, right?
I mean, he got in a three in a Dover where that bump is and was trying to pass a guy.
Where's the worst spot, Kyle?
Yeah, yeah.
Right? So it just, it happens.
How difficult is it like, you know, you've helped Corey's one, you know, that comes to mind.
Like, you have to beat these guys' heads.
Like, sometimes you just got a fifth place car.
And if you try to win with a fifth place car, you're probably going to get yourself in trouble.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, there's that.
There's that, obviously.
But then it's like, you know, everybody was down on Corey a lot this year.
And there's other, you know, moments like that with your son and stuff.
It's like, it sucks.
But a lot of times you have to make those mistakes to learn from it.
You know, you don't want to.
You wish it would just come easy and naturally.
And everybody's going to, every young 19, 20 year old is going to make the right decisions, but they're not.
So I'm 34 and still do the dumbest shit on the racetrack almost weekly.
So, yeah, I mean, yeah, you kind of have to make those mistakes.
Like he's probably next time on a start, he's going to do something totally different.
He's me ready.
So just, yeah, it's just the way it goes.
But every moment you learn from, good or bad.
So it's fine.
It's still surrounding yourself with the right people.
I mean, look, if Freddie was spotting, or you were spotting,
what were you said before to start a race before we're going?
Just lay back.
Yeah.
Because like I told him, I said, dude, you could have laid back 10 car lengths off of two.
You would have been right back behind it because they're all going to bunch up.
It's like, again, you just got to educate.
You got to have smart people around.
Yeah.
You know, in order to progress in this, you have to have smart people.
That's why you got to put them in the right places.
You got to surround them everyone.
You know, I just want to be the dad, right?
I can't keep doing that.
I have to let people handle it for them, right?
And that's what I keep telling everybody.
I just want to be to dad and hang out.
I want to, you know, talk to him on a Monday or Tuesday about things.
I don't want to have to keep pressing on Fridays and Saturdays, you know,
and just I want to go have fun with the Modified, right?
I don't want to go win races again with that and do shit like that.
And Jack's racing in the late miles.
I want him to progress, but like, how do you do it with no money, right?
So you just have to try to do it the other way.
And sometimes it works.
Sometimes, hey, priest was miserable, right?
He hated it.
He wanted to move back, right?
He was close probably.
Two days, three days, no lie from moving back because of it.
It's like, no, man, you got to stick it out.
You have to, like, deal with it.
You're going to learn.
And it's like, well, hopefully something he's, Luke has taken out from this year will help.
We'll help.
I don't know.
Mention Corey, obviously, I think this week we figured out you are what's understeer.
on Twitter the amount of,
I don't know if you're familiar with that guy,
but he is the biggest Corey Day fan on the planet probably.
And I think I've determined now that's your burner
because he was obviously very upset about the
Connor Tillwich announcement the other day.
But talk about that a little bit.
Obviously, Connor coming in, I think it's a good thing for everybody.
Yeah, no, I think we're all excited about it.
Hendrick, I think, although Connor's only 19-20
right now, I think he's going to come in and make us all better,
especially on the road course stuff.
So, yeah, I'm excited about it.
I've been around him a little bit the last few years with the Chevy program and Josh Wise and all that.
And he's a cool kid, fun kid, works really hard at it and just naturally good and talented.
So, yeah, it's been, honestly, I think this year watching him struggle and go through the things that he's gone through is great for him because he's, everything has been so easy to him his whole career.
And he probably in some ways thought that maybe there was a chance he would be the same.
way coming in the cup. So I think he's going to grow way more through this year and even
next year. And hopefully we'll see a lot of progression next year. And then he'll be ready to go.
Hopefully he started slowing down for that wreck finally. Yeah, but what do you think happened there?
I think he locked the front tires up and just... Well, he was behind the three. Was there late
communication? No, no. Communition was great. The whole time. Yeah, I don't, I don't, he looked like
he had the brakes locked up into three. I don't know if it was like just a panic move or what happened.
but into three,
he just looked like he had him locked up,
slid up the hill,
and then he was kind of fucking probably panicked
and was like,
oh, where am I going to go?
I think you tried to go around the outside of him.
But I need,
what I need you to do is reassure all of the Corey Day fans
that Corey's going to be just fine.
Yeah,
like,
look,
the one thing I have learned through the business world of NASCAR
is that Hendrick group is two,
three years ahead of everybody
on the thought process.
Right?
They have people,
everything.
I would be willing to say probably even more than two or three years.
I mean, I've been lucky enough to be in some of these meetings over the years of
listening to their thought process and what they wanted to do when, you know, I was sitting,
getting interviewed and stuff.
It was just like, you walk out of that place and it's like, after talking to people like
Mr. Hendrick, it's just like you walk out of it and go, they're in a whole different planet.
And I know you, you've probably seen that when you went from, even from Ganassi to Hendrik,
how the, tell us about a little bit how that, you think that transitions.
into championships and wins.
Yeah, I mean, for me, just, they just got everything figured out, I feel like.
And like you said, there's a plan for everything.
There's a plan in place.
They stick to the plan.
And you got to just see the plan through, like for Corey's situation.
You know, it's so easy as a young kid to be like, you want everything right now and right now, right now.
But have you told him he's not ready?
I mean, have you sat down, man?
Look, there's a lot bigger steps.
Well, I just think for him, I just think you just, you got to trust the people around you.
And like you're saying, you know, Mr. H and Jeff Gordon, Jeff Andrews, Chad, all of them, like, they have the experience.
They're much better at developing people than anybody, I feel like.
So you just got to trust the process and go win.
I mean, winning takes care of everything.
So he's done well this year.
He's progressed so much, I think, compared to anybody in the field.
So do I think he could get in a cup car next year and be good?
Yeah.
But I think there's still a lot to learn.
you know, next year in the O'Reilly series to be extra prepared when you get to Cup.
So, yeah, I mean, Corey's got the talent, but he's, what, got 50 stock car races maybe just
commercial.
He has plenty of time.
Yeah, I think, you know, if the seat was open for him and in it to do it, he would do just fine.
I mean, I probably had the same amount of races when I got to, you know, getting cup and I
struggled.
I didn't win a race for a few years.
But, yeah, it's just different these days.
and again, just got to trust the process.
I think he does for sure.
And I'm sure this motivates him too.
And he's going to do really good.
Yeah.
Spot on.
Spot on.
Did you want to go first on this one?
I think he's a whiny bit.
That's what I think.
Send it.
Why me?
All right.
We'll get into a little spot on, spot off.
Topic one, Jonathan Hassler's call to take two tires is what won Ryan Blaney.
it loud and spot on spot off Tommy.
Well, I think the pit road mistake kind of put him in that position to be able to make that easy
choice.
I think if he was on the same strategy as everybody else and leading the race, it would have maybe
been a little bit different.
But, man, I heard yesterday that they've given up their minus 128 spots on pit road.
That seems like a lot.
That is a lot, Freddie.
What do you mean?
It seems like a lot.
I mean, holy shit.
It's like, it's crazy.
it just made that decision easy.
I mean, you can see when they,
I think they did two early in the race.
A lot of guys did two in early in the race.
And once you do that,
and you look at the graphs and the speed
and when you're on the pit box
and looking at everything that, you know,
the fall off from the, you know,
lap 30 from the two tires of the four tires,
you can make better decisions later on.
I just got to understand that data.
So 12 car was fast.
I think, like you said,
I think he was kind of forced into it and it worked out.
Did you take two at all,
yesterday?
Earlier.
Like,
I felt like
like there was some guys,
there were some guys
that you fell back,
you,
you,
you,
you went to maintain.
Yeah,
yeah.
But there were some guys,
like,
uh,
the 19 comes to mind.
Like,
some guys took two
and could maintain.
Like,
we took two at one point
and went forward.
I think the 19 and the 60
burned their,
their shit up,
I just know we passed it
for second.
I know we passed him
for a second,
then we laughed them
before the end of their age.
Yeah,
I think the 19 was on the bottom
and the 60 up top
and 60 had four
on the time,
but I think they both hurt themselves.
Just racing the hell out with each other.
I mean, late in the race, what are you going to do?
Do you let him go and say I'm going to get him back because I know he's on two
and I'm not going to burn my stuff up?
I mean, maybe priest.
I thought Bell and Priest did the same thing.
Like, they were battling each other side by side for like 10 laps and then the 21 just kind of
blew through him.
I think you ended up getting Priest, right?
Yeah, he was burned up.
And like, Bell kind of, I thought Bell had a lot of pace and then he kind of stalled out
after he was racing priests.
So, yeah, I think, like, you can overheat your shit and kind of be,
done with it from there.
Were those tires any better there from the last year?
It's just, I just feel like the short track tire, you just kind of have to manage temp more
than anything.
Because, yeah, I mean, once you get racing somebody and you get the right rear hot, you're
just, you, it doesn't, it might come back a little bit, but it's not going to get all the
way back.
So yeah, you'll be struggling.
So, yeah, I mean, when I caught the 19, I completely ran him out of the lane.
Because I'm like, I am not.
I am not.
I know he's going to fucking raise the shit out of me.
and I am not wasting time.
There's a list of guys.
I'll ask you because I ask everybody on this.
Like when you're getting to somebody,
like when you're catching somebody,
who's like the last guy?
Like you're running them down and you're like,
oh, this is going to be a fucking pain of the ass.
Oh,
Suarez and Chase Briscoe for sure.
Yeah.
It's funny.
A lot of people say my guy,
my guy can be a problem too.
But like, yeah, for sure,
Suarez is one that you know,
like, whatever lane you're running,
you're going to have to run a different one
when you get there because he's going to block you
for whatever it's worth.
And then he'll, like, randomly let you by and then hit you the next quarter.
What was that for?
No, I also appreciate it.
You know, like, I appreciate them all racing really hard because that's what we're paid to do.
But, yeah, it's like, all right, I got to try and not waste time here.
Tyler, when we're up there, I think about it sometimes.
But when you think about it, like, we're racing other guys, how much you think about that guy's spotter?
Like, when you're like, I don't want to have to go down and tell this guy he's an idiot, but I might have to.
No, I don't hesitate.
I've seen you do it actually personally
I mean
I mean a lot of
I feel like there's times
where there's guys up there
that just don't understand
the whole surroundings
what's going on right like
just for instance
you know North Wilkesboro
we're three
I mean we're lapsed down
I feel like right
and then we were catching the seven
yeah seven we we
you know didn't have a good race
and then the cycle broke it up
when Reddick and Bowman
and then wrecked pit road deal
so like you know
we're running them down
and like when somebody runs you down from a straightaway back and you get to them,
they're not on the same lap.
Then you're like, okay, this guy's being an idiot right now.
I mean, like, just if you let us go, one, you just heat it your stuff up.
And now you're going to fall back after we do pass you or both of us or whatever.
So, yeah, I mean, there's my whole thing is everybody, there's a lot of spotters up there that do a great job.
But just knowing the surroundings, right?
like knowing what i mean we all have tv monitors in front of us pretty much everybody's running their
s mt and timing and scoring like everybody knows the situation so that's where i get frustrated
i get frustrated because people are just up there like yeah we're just gonna race shit out of
which spotter up there bitch is the most that's how i'm always curious though no uh
i don't know who bitch is the most tab probably gets the most angry at people um yeah i don't know
timmy dances the most timmy is uh he is non-stallel
stop moving.
I was like, I just hope you're, like, he gets like a little jittery.
So he'll be dancing around up there.
I was like, I just hope he's in the race.
I had you moving around a little bit up there.
But yeah, nobody, I don't know.
Jason, Jerry.
Jason, Jerry.
He don't know.
He don't even know he's saying.
He's so quiet.
Josh Berry.
He don't,
you don't even know he's up there.
Is anybody really bitch anymore?
Like, I got to the point where I'm like, I, like, it's not even worse.
It's a waste of my time to walk down there.
Because whoever it is is probably just an idiot anyway.
But yeah, it's never.
awards me.
He's not much.
There's not a lot of...
Hirschman and TJ.
T.J.
T.J. is the most of anybody.
That's the correct answer.
The mayor is like the mayor of the roof.
No, he wants to be.
He thinks he is.
He makes he is.
Him and Herschman are the very best
at coming down and telling you
how you can help them win.
Like, you should have done this.
So I'm like, yeah, no, that's not.
My point is not to help you, stupid.
Like, I'm trying to do my own race here.
Herschman is the worst up there.
I would say he gets the most...
I love it.
When they get into it.
Ty, yeah.
When they get into it together, that's my favorite,
because neither one of them have ever been wrong.
Everyone sits back.
Everybody just looks back and we're just like,
oh, here we go, it's going to be fun.
Yeah, it's interesting.
I'm there.
Carson Hosevar says,
I just got fucking wrecked after contact with Connor Zillich.
Spot on, spot off.
He just, he was just a...
You were just praising him.
I know, but even to practice,
the guy's in the fourth fucking groove.
I mean, just, did you, were you around?
I'm like, what is he doing?
Like, he would just unwound all for two days.
I'm sorry, he just, two days.
That pink card that his girlfriend designed had him all then spooked up.
Anyway, well, he was right.
He did get wrecked, but unfortunately he was by himself.
I don't know.
I feel like we see these moments out of Carson all the time.
It's just a reaction where look to me,
maybe I could be a thousand percent wrong,
but just watching it back.
Looks to me like Connor gets into him a little bit off of full.
and he decides it to start finish line,
he's going to hang a left on corner.
I can't decide if he thought he was going to, like, clear and shut the door.
I think he was just like swirming a little bit and just turned himself.
You race around and you know how much talent he's got, right?
I mean, the kid is good.
It's just, it's like.
Maybe the most talented out there.
You think, right?
I mean, you watch what he can do in a car.
And it's just, man, do you, you got to surround you, do you have someone help him, right?
I mean, it's like, what do you do?
I don't think anybody knows
Yeah
Like it's just
I mean I know they want him to be himself
It's good
I mean it's he's got a lot of sponsors
He's got a lot of people behind him
You can be yourself and have to
I don't think you have to like totally neuter him
But I almost feel like he's at the point now
Or he's like doing it even
Like it's not really him
Like it's a piece of him
But he's like going above
Above what he really is
I feel like he treats it like his fucking Twitch stream
Like he's playing a game out there
and he's doing it for attention
or for clicks or for views.
Spinning out before they race,
like that was 1,000%
just to get on TV.
Like, did you see it?
I mean, he just throttles up.
Passes the pace car.
Yeah, passes the pace car and spins out.
Like, you know, and Lugano was like,
oh, look at this idiot.
Did you see that?
But, I mean, that's the shit
that drives me insane.
Like, the same thing with like flipping Corey off at indie.
Corey's obviously not looking.
You know, he just does this stupid shit for attention.
great. He's getting attention. We talk about him on here every
fucking week because of it. But he leaves
us no choice because he does a lot of dumb shit all the time.
When he's on, he's on, right? But I just
blame the spotter.
Tyler? I do.
I think he needs to do a better...
That's his daddy.
In my eyes. Here we go.
Fuck another daddy.
I'm sure everybody's trying. I don't know.
I don't think people are telling him like, hey,
go at his door, everybody.
Tyler is studying and does
do all this stuff. He's got to
maybe change his focus
from that, I don't think you can help him.
I think he just blacks out.
Yeah.
And that moment yesterday.
I mean, race.
I mean, we all have.
Like, what happens?
Like, just.
You just, you see red real quick and you make a move or, I mean, I, I guess they're
never done that.
Yeah.
Anyway.
I don't know.
I feel like with most people, a lot of people do it.
I mean, it's not.
You see it all over the place.
It's just, it's like.
Every weekend.
The camera didn't catch it at Iowa.
I doubt.
I don't know.
But, dude, he was trying to spear bell.
Did you see any of that?
When he got a lap for like the second time,
he was trying to spear Christopher Bell for two laps.
I'm like,
and I'm behind.
I'm like,
what are you doing?
He did the same thing with Connor yesterday.
After he wrecked himself on Connor's nose,
he's running into Connor.
That's what I don't understand is like you admit that you wrecked yourself,
but then you still go out and run right through him the next chance you get.
Yeah.
Like that other than I just feel like it's all a fucking gimmick.
Like I don't have anything.
I think he's a super talented race car driver.
I wish he would just go back to driving a race car instead of work.
instead of worrying about what everybody thinks.
Because, yes, you've got to build a fan base.
But eventually, like, you just, it's, everybody's going to get fed up with your shit.
If you're not, if you're doing, if you're running like this, if you're competing for wins,
winning Tal'Dague, a great story, fucking unbelievable celebration.
If you're competing for wins, yes, you're going to, like, continue to stay up top.
But if you're just playing in this fucking gimmick every week and then you're running 20th now,
like he has been the last three weeks, it's going to be fucking, it's going to get old pretty quick on them.
Yeah. Tyler, I didn't get you a chance, dog.
I mean, I don't know.
You got anything bad.
You got a racist guy all year.
No, I just, yeah, he's very talented.
There's no doubt about it.
I mean, he shows up every weekend.
He shows a ton of speed.
And I think there's times where, like,
I'm not blaming Tyler at all,
but you got to have a good group around you, right,
to try to get you back on track.
And, hey, when he drives up to fifth and fourth on speed
and pass all them guys, okay,
and kind of like get to the next guy,
don't make a dumb move.
Just run fourth or fifth.
Okay, let's get to the next, you know,
stage or whatever and let the pit crew do the work and next thing you know you know your top three
then you have a shot to win but taking yourself out of races and trust me he's not the only one that does
a lot of people that do this but um carson has a ton of talent and eventually hopefully it comes to him
and and hopefully it does work out and i'm sure it will i'm sure it will just got to keep him
under wraps and put the good people around him i know but the one thing i saw yesterday it kind of and this
has really nothing to do with Carson.
I've seen other people do it.
You know, he spins out right at the end of pit road,
just drives up the wrong way,
goes to his pit stall,
which is like 10 stalls in.
And I mean, that saved him.
He lost, I think, one lap there,
and I think he lost one on a pit cycle.
But, you know, like that...
Where was that?
Like, so he wrecked at a front stretch.
He just kind of up the wrong way
on the front straightaway instead of driving around.
So you get a commitment line violation.
Yeah.
But it's got to be more than that
because you probably just,
as wrecked as his car was,
just saved himself probably two, three laps of being lapsed down.
now he finished, you know, with the wave around spin.
You know, he ends up, I think he finished like 19th or 20th yesterday.
I feel like that's got to be a stiffer penalty for driving the wrong way up
and saving yourself.
I mean, it's smart on their part, but like...
I couldn't believe it didn't break a toe link.
Yeah, I mean, I was surprised.
He gets lucky, man.
He's so good at, like...
Maybe he's just good at it.
Yeah, I think he is really good at it.
He does it so often that he just, he figured it out.
Hey, he's the show.
He's, I mean...
He's not the show.
He wants to be.
Can you guys let me finish?
No.
How does it feel, huh?
Is he like the new Mr. Excitement?
Is he the new Jimmy Spencer?
Yeah, he is because he's only competitive plate races right now.
No, he's good everywhere.
But, no, but that's, yes, yes.
He is Mr. Excitement for better or worse,
and he's going to make sure he finds himself on TV every week somehow.
Yeah.
Frustrating.
All right.
In better news, we'll move on to somebody else here.
No one is going to contest Lane Riggs for the truck series championship.
Tyler, spot on, spot off.
I'm going to say spot on because right now they, like you said earlier,
no one's competing for them.
Like they're firing on all cylinders and they have it going on right now.
All the front road truck.
I mean, they ran I think one two this past weekend and, you know, 38's been showing speed.
They have got it going on.
And I feel like, you know, the tri-contract like Honeycutt can compete with him,
but just not consistent.
I think lane rigs right now is consistent.
They can go from the back, even if they have an.
issue. He works his way up there. You know, Dylan does a good job to put them in a good
situation. And I think he's super smart, you know, crew chief. And, and obviously, Lane does a good
job with the truck to keep it. So yeah, it's going to be tough. And I could see, I really could see
Lane. I mean, I hope not. I hope Daniel Hembrick goes in there and we just destroy him the next,
but I could see Lane. You know, well. No, no. It might be the only way to be to him.
I know, right. Yeah. No, but I could see him, you know, having it. Seriously, lock. Lock.
up before we get to homestead.
Yeah, I said that about Allgaier a lot this year.
Kyle, what's it like?
Obviously, was it 20-21 when you guys were on that incredible run?
Like, when your shit's just right, like it's almost like you can do no wrong for a lot of it, right?
Yeah, like, everything is so easy.
I mean, it is wild, like how, yeah, when your car is that good, like, winning is easier than
us running eighth right now, you know?
So, yeah, and I would say it seems like Lane is in a similar position.
I think Corey Hime was that way or even better last year.
I think the same, they write same stats right now, right?
Yeah, I felt like Corey Hime was doing it easier than even Lane is this year.
So, yeah, I mean, I definitely think Lane is the favorite for sure.
Do I think he could get beat?
Absolutely.
I mean, I think Honeycutt is, every bit is like fast.
I feel like Lane is just doing, and his team is just doing a better job.
He's been doing it longer, right?
Yeah.
I think Lane also, like, has Caden a little bit better up here in the
mind.
Like, Kaden loses his mind a little bit.
He sees red.
He's always been like that.
And lay models and everything, but I think Lane kind of can lock in and take a deep breath.
That's the mindset you need, especially now that it's a, you know, whatever it is, I'm assuming
there's like seven or eight races.
You know, that's the mindset you need of, you know, you can't throw it away one day
because you're having a bad day, which I think, you know, my guy's guilty of.
You know, we have speed that can match them guys or close to it sometimes.
but I don't wear a long way.
I feel like we're a long ways away from contending
because of the mental mistakes that we make
at the end of the races sometimes.
So, yeah, I think, like Kyle said,
he's got the speed.
He's got, he's the favorite for sure.
But anybody can be beaten.
And listen, the 38 truck's been just as fast.
Yeah, I would say it's between the 38 and Honeycutt
to challenge him.
Truck race, fucking John Hunter.
Boy, John Hunter's having a rough go.
Was he being a minis in that too?
He dumped, who are Landa Lewis, like 10 lapses.
Like 10 laps in, it felt like I was probably a little longer nap.
Don't Gavin.
I think Gavin.
Gavin lost his brakes.
He was having a break issues.
I think he was underneath somebody and kind of, but he was having a break issue
before that man, he hit a ton.
Yeah, I was glad he was okay just in time to go to Arcor race and get his ass run over.
But, yeah, that was, truck race was exciting.
Hey, I will say the truck race was really exciting.
The little, the race for the final spot was.
Yes, Garcia and Anchorage.
I was watching, you know, on the TV and I was like, damn, this is kind of cool.
And then like Ancrum's figuring out his truck at the end and like you're seeing the points kind of change.
And I felt like even without the caution, he might have like passed another guy to get himself in.
So I thought a season long championship to have three guys coming down to like a single position at the end was really neat.
I thought it was, I thought it was over.
Like I caught like the week before, Chris Lambert's a good buddy of mine and he spots for Stewie.
And I was like, he's like, yeah, we're fucked now.
wrecked. We're way out. And then I looked up at like,
Stuie had that pit strategy. He was running like third.
And I looked at our point standings live.
And I was like, oh, he's in. Like, how the hell is he in?
And I looked in the anchorman was struggling. And then I look back.
I was like, oh, Stu's out. And I saw the
cut line was a really good battles. That's what
you want when you had this format, right?
Homestead has been announced as the
2027 NASCAR championship weekend venue.
Spot on, spot off. Kyle?
I mean, it doesn't matter.
Me. Obviously, I love Homestead.
And I, and I feel like it
produces a good championship weekend and good racing.
So across all three series.
So I'm spot on with it.
Do I think it should rotate?
Yeah, also.
But there's only so many tracks that you can rotate it with.
So I don't know.
It should be fun.
Now that it's not a single race championship anymore,
I'm fine with it.
Let's just park it at Homestead and leave it there forever.
Because like you said, the racing's great.
It's always been great there.
All the series run well there.
It's close to Key West so we can go there and do our show when the season's over on Monday.
It was fun to have the banquet there too back when they had in Miami.
But yeah, it's the ideal racetrack, I feel like, for that.
Because you can, different strategies.
Like, it's just everything you want about a racetrack, Tyler.
Yeah.
No, I agree.
Homestead's obviously a great racing for, like you just said, all series.
And, I mean, sometimes, you know, guys, obviously, you run the fence,
but there's a lot of guys that can make ground up on the bottom.
Yeah.
Works out.
And the hardest part about spotting there is, like,
Like off of four, you got a guy like, all right, just wrapping the line.
You got a guy up here and you're like, I don't know if you're clear or not, you know.
He's out there.
He's six lanes up.
He's out there.
So, no, I like it.
I'm all about it.
And yeah, we get to go to Miami if we win a championship, right?
We talk about, you know, we're going to Miami whether we win.
No matter.
You know, we talked about SVG earlier in applying, you know, that's a place where everybody's like, obviously,
he's like, oh, Larson's going to kick our ass when we go to Homestead.
And it was, you know, nobody.
was, you know, nobody, everybody was like, why can you just apply what Kyle does? It's the same thing,
right? Like it's, it's, it's, oh yeah, we see what he's doing, but it's the application of it,
no? Was that the place where, was that where Kyle waved you, like, and pointed that's the, I mean,
you got to tell that story quick. I know you told it a hundred times. Yeah, no, it was my first time
there, Chuck series, 2012, the infamous, uh, me crashing Ty Dylan at the end, but that race.
But anyways, earlier, um, I had got to the lead and, and we were running, I don't know,
lane and a half off the top, maybe. This is back before.
before you really ran the wall at Homestead.
But anyways, yeah, Kyle ran me down and passed me and then, like, stuck his hand out and
was point me to go higher.
And I was like, shit, all right, I'll try and go a little higher here.
And, yeah, it was like way better.
And I ran him down past him.
And then, yeah, I mean, homestead really from that point forward has just been probably
my best tracker, like most dominant style oval.
So, yeah, but then as like the years kind of progressed, you know, then you figure,
out like, oh, you can get in this pocket on entry and carry a lot of speed.
And we figured out where the barrels were at pit road.
Yeah, we found every square inch of that.
I remember, I think it must have been 2013.
Bubba was in the KBM truck.
And we were like fastest in practice.
And then Kyle goes out there and just starts ripping the top.
And I'm like, oh, shit.
So Bubba's like, Bubba's running the same thing, like a lane off the wall.
And I'm like, all right, the, I probably like the 32 truck or something.
I say, here comes Larson.
You're going to have to run where he's at.
So, like, we let you go.
You go in the corner and he's like, fuck off.
He's like, no, I can't do it.
I'm like, well, you're going to have to try.
And sure enough, like, after like 15 laps of trying, he gets going good.
I'm like, all right, you're there.
Boom, now we're in the fence track the right side off.
But I think we won the race that weekend.
So that was, it worked out well.
But the first time he saw it, he's like, no shot.
I can't do that.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
No, it's fun for me because, you know, it's a track that, like, I naturally,
in that style I've adapted to.
And then, yeah, you see people trying it in practice or to test.
You might go.
And, yeah, they'll be able to do it for a handful laps.
But then, yeah, I mean, repeating it for a 30-lap run is, I think,
where I can just get into a nice rhythm.
So it's sick.
I love it.
We can tell.
We can tell you like it.
Yeah, that's why that question was for you.
The next one, just a quick one, just for you too.
Yeah, quick one.
Spot on, spot off.
Kyle Larson will win a cup series raised before the end of the season.
Daytona this weekend.
Yeah, he's here.
DBC.
DBC, boom.
Yeah, we're going to get our first Speedway
top five and win.
We expect to shout out.
I think it's the Spotter.
The Spotter is not doing a good job, too.
Tom, I've won a lot of speedways.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I got Corey Day's first.
Cliff is one as an engineer, right?
I'm sure, yeah.
Common denominator.
There's a lot covered from the
employed gallery over here.
All right, DBC fans, it's time to react.
All right, it's time for reaction
theater where fans can call in and voice their
opinions from this weekend's race.
I know I'm excited to see what kind of calls we got for...
I'm not.
I'm nervous.
Do you listen?
I sometimes will see like some of these clips pop up.
Yeah, and they're usually hilarious, but I'm nervous.
I'm in the hot seat.
Yeah, you might be in the hot seat.
You are an I'm happy.
Larson, when people come on, they typically get baptized in a certain way, and this is going to happen to you.
So sorry for it.
All right.
Thanks for the heads up.
Yo, fuck, Kyle Larson.
That's it.
That was all right.
That's for you, bud.
Oh, man.
Hey, I got a Kyle Larson story.
I went to a dirt race in 2019, my first time in a sprint car race.
and me and my dad
walking through the pits
and this dude comes flying around the corner
in a golf cart
slams on the brakes
almost hits us
and looks at us
with like deer in the headlight looks
and it's Larson
and me and my dad
were like all struck
that we almost got
obliterated by Kyle Larson
which is you know
a lot of people's experience
on Sundays these days
but it was a lot of fun
made me a Larson fan
even more than I already was
so made a laugh long fan out of me
it was pretty funny
still talk about it to this day
that was fine
yeah
That's good one.
That was a good one.
We got it throwing a good one.
I mean, you almost killed the guy, but it's fine.
Here's a good one.
Before I light up another left-handed cigarette,
as Tommy's old ass would call it,
I'd have to say, unfortunately,
Kyle Larson and you are in my NASCAR nightmare blunt rotation.
I don't feel bad because the rest of those dweeds at Hendrick are there with you.
All right.
I'm not really sure what any of that man.
He's smoking weed and he doesn't want to smoke weed with you.
Oh, yeah.
It's an arm.
What a shame.
Or anyone at Hendrick, apparently.
Yeah.
Listen here, Kyle, I'm really conflicted about this whole double thing.
On one hand, you did come out of it with a win.
On the other hand, it just seems like all these doubles of yours end up being exactly 350 miles by the time.
That's true.
That's accurate statement.
Yeah, how many miles was there's race?
I don't know.
The Richmond race?
Yeah, 400 probably.
Yeah, not miles.
It's 400 laps, so it's probably a little bit less part.
Probably about 300.
Yeah.
Maybe eventually I'll get to 1100 miles.
We had a couple of up, maybe just a couple years together.
I got to say, I thought the documentary was really cool.
Like, I watched it, and I know you guys obviously wanted the racing to go way differently than it did,
but I think it going the way it did opened up a big opportunity for like more of a look into your life and your family and stuff.
Like I just, I thought it was really good.
Yeah, no, thanks.
It was, uh, yeah, I thought they did a good job of, um, kind of piecing together and showing how tough racing is and like how emotionally challenging it can be at times, especially when you want to do good in a big event.
So, um, yeah, it was fun, fun to be part of.
Glad it's over.
thought to go put on a mustache and bang my wife
Go 12
Oh my God
Hey congrats
Yeah
Put on a mustache
Yeah like Blaney's mustache
Oh Jesus
What was that?
Was that fetal with that?
That might be Timmy
Yeah
Timmy's calling in now
Leave Timmy alone
Man
John Hunter Nemechek sure is given
B. B. B. B. Bucke's
a run for her money. The way he fucks everyone in front of him.
That's been my favorite one shot.
Listen, he's not wrong. I mean, I don't know.
He got a Bonnie Blue shout out on doorbooper clear before we got GTA six.
Okay, so is it just me or is it ever since Carson Hosebar started getting some hosewitie?
He's sucking ass.
Oh.
Man.
Yeah.
So the fans called in and they're calling the host of our fans now, host of usis.
And that was where that related to.
And listen, maybe it's not inaccurate.
I don't know.
It seems.
What do you think?
The timeline lines up.
What do you think?
I have no comment.
You think there would be a lot less tension.
You would think.
You would think.
All right.
I got one more.
This is from Caleb.
He wrote a Kyle Larson song.
And I just want to be.
want to say, Caleb, you can stop messaging me.
And, like, he hit me up on every single, like, possible thing.
I'm surprised he's not at, like, my ring doorbell.
But anyway, Kyle's going to use this for his walk out of Bristol.
This would be Tyler's next karaoke song.
Oh, there we go.
A while since I've sent a song into DBC, but I heard my favorite driver was going to be on
the show this week, so I had to write one.
So, God was really fast, so short he can barely ring.
the gas you know
Morris blue
and he's evasion to sand
You know
Chinese
I don't talk about
Denny
That's a good song
That's right of Tyler's Alley
You can definitely
You can learn that
By the weekend
Drum that on the guitar too
Yeah I'd be good at that
Maybe by the end of the year
After the end of the year
You do a
You could write him a song
Based off the year.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was our last one?
That was it.
Dang, I got to say,
they were a little more mild than I was expecting.
I thought we would have some hung money calls.
I'm sweating over here.
People told Dave Larson as much as they do, Joey, I guess.
Joey had so many hate calls.
Joey did not have a good day here.
It was fun, though.
All right.

Starting off strong, I saw Landon Huffman's tweet.
He said his foot is, it's fine.
He has no broken bones or anything.
Hard to believe Lannon Huffman had an issue with somebody.
Is him and POSAVar hang out?
Dude.
Huh?
Did they hang out?
He did, like,
he kicks the shit out of this thing.
This is a fine right here.
He's leaving his pit area to go confront another competitor.
That's got to hurt a lot in a racing shoe, no.
Also, fun fact, when he punched in the window, he punched the window net.
He didn't even make it to Tyler.
But like, this is such late model racing.
Oh, but I mean, does that?
Have you ever kicked anything?
No.
Have you ever kicked anything in general, but then, like, in a racing shoe, it's got a fucking hurt.
Like, because nobody's doing any of this in their races.
You know, you guys don't, well, I mean.
I mean, kicking that door can't feel good.
I mean, you're kicking the door bars right behind it, basically.
He's always seems to be in the middle of crap.
How come?
I don't, that's a penalty right there.
I don't pay me at all.
But the only thing I ever sees him in some sort of controversy.
Don't tell him that because now he's going to be happy to hear that.
He'll do it more.
That's what I'm saying.
He's always in the middle of it.
Yeah.
Always.
Tommy, I think you're right.
Like when you said he's like Carson.
Yeah.
I mean, just like that.
Well, no, he's like Carson.
Nobody's.
But like he...
Like Carson's not doing that.
No, no, no.
I get that aspect, but I'm just saying like,
yeah.
Landon is always in something every single week and doing.
Well, this wreck was massive.
The bed and house in the wreck.
You see this one, Colin?
Oh, yeah.
This is crazy.
If you look right, the star finish, like he jumps the wheel.
Oh.
Yeah, I don't think anybody could actually see it.
And that's just a visibility thing, Kyle?
Yeah.
Right?
I mean, he can't see that guy in front of him, probably.
Yeah, no.
I've ran, so I ran, um,
Some Silver Crown stuff in 2011.
And we had at Terre Haute, it was a day race like this.
And I started fourth.
And I couldn't see anything.
And same sort of thing happened.
I think T-Mez maybe did the same sort of thing.
So, yeah, like, you can see it from the camera from that angle.
But when you're in the, when you're behind the wheel, like, it's white.
Like, you can't see anything.
So dangerous.
Day racing on dirt is dangerous.
And we saw a huge arc around a few years ago.
75 gallons of fuel behind you.
Look at that.
I mean, that thing is...
We have seen...
They have spotters.
They have spotters.
Yeah, they have spotters, but...
Spotters can't see either.
Yeah, I mean, I did arcor races there.
You can't see shit.
Well, I mean, that arc race last year where that...
Somebody broke, right?
Like, they were up against the wall.
Spotters couldn't see it.
And, dude, they KO to Carl on the front straight away.
Yeah, I mean, you can tell people can't see
because, I mean, they're going still, like, caution speed at the flagstand right there.
So...
That was wild.
On the arcer race yesterday, I think, I think,
Taylor Rimer was saying, I think they called her for jumping the stars or something like that.
So I guess what it was, she like in ARCA, there's not a restart zone.
You go out that first line.
And I guess that first line was hard to see.
And like you could tell, like, you could see your windshield and how dusty it was.
And yeah, like you can't tell.
It should be a restart zone.
Arca should just do the research.
We've seen some wrecked sprint cars lately.
Like, Blue, I saw that one.
Crouch at Knoxville.
Like there's some.
scary looking wrecks lately.
Like, glad everybody's okay.
Or Crouch is a little banged up.
They've gotten a lot better on safety.
I mean.
I mean, have you like fought on anything that you think that need to be better on the safety?
I mean, a big topic of hours right now with our kids racing, you know, with the fire that
happened at I-44 is just making sure, like, the tracks are equipped for fires and
methanol fires.
I think, you know, that's something where it's not just a normal fire extinguisher, stuff like
that. And on the youth side of it, like making sure the kids have the right safety gear.
Because I think in a lot of times, like for parents that are new to racing, you don't know.
You just go buy a fire suit.
That's why I'm bringing it up.
Yeah.
Just stuff like that.
So that's kind of been on the front of our mind and Caitlin's mind especially.
She's been, like she went to the safety meeting at Knoxville.
And she's trying to get like more aware of things.
And then, yeah, we're going to, you know, try to help out the sports.
But yeah, that side of like the youth, you know, stuff is what, it starts.
Everything starts, you know, there, I think.
So teaching the kids of how to get out of the car fast, how to wear, you know, what to wear is important.
And then, yeah, I mean having the tracks equipped and everybody ready for worst case scenario.
What the hell happened here?
I saw, I saw this clip was just just.
Tulare.
To Larry.
Oh, they're like flipping in unison.
Oh, yeah.
I think that's, yeah, they both, like, hit the sick cushion in the same spot.
Who is that?
I've done that. Was that the 31? Was that? Dominic Gordon and then Jet Yantz.
They didn't even touch each other. They both just did the exact same.
That is so easy to do. We're trying to clown on them here. But Tilari is like the toughest racetrack in the world.
Is it really? Oh, yeah. Yeah, especially turn one is. It's fucking crazy.
Turn one is eight so many cars. I've been to hospital after T'leri.
I actually, before they added that white wall above it,
you went out there?
Oh, I hung.
I hung it in the fence.
Oh, don't say that.
Yeah, in the trophy dash, I got like tight,
climb the wall and like flipped.
And then it used to be like a catch fence,
like at the top piece in my left ear got wrapped in.
I was just hanging there.
So.
That's got to be fun.
That's hilarious in flipping in unison like that.
Yeah.
I don't know if anime is going to bet that big flip there.
I mean,
Host of ours probably the shit show of the week.
All right.
If you find a shit show out in the wild,
tag us or send it our way on social media
so we can laugh along with you.
And we're moving on to AskDBC.
I have been thinking about this first question
since we started the show,
and I found out that Tyler was a karaoke extraordinary.
What's your go-to karaoke song?
My go-to as soon as we show up to the place,
I sign up.
It's brand-new man by Brooks and Doe.
Okay, period.
That's when I start with.
Come out of the gate swinging.
Yeah.
He did his closer, though, was Alex Warren.
I did Alex Warren ordinary the other night.
Oh.
This place, I'm telling you, it is the, you guys need to film a show there.
Oh, it is it?
It's a big house and Rear's Beach.
Yeah.
Weir's Beach.
Yeah, Laconia.
Dude, I mean, it's like legit stage.
I felt like I'm not shitting you.
I felt like where I screwed up at and I told Freddie this past weekend, you know,
like get up there and the first time, there was.
a lot of people up there and then it just started getting packed care if you started at nine we
were there like eight 50 i was reds i was first one yeah so i like you know we're up that way and
i get up there in the second song i sing black by pearl jam so i get up there and these people are like
boo they're like booing me i'm like man what the fuck did i do i'm like i and i like look up and i see like
to burn my hat i'm like i got a yankee's hat on like yeah yankee's suck yeah and then i turn
around backwards. And it was like terrible
that moment because there was
like a delay. They were trying to find the song
or something. And it was like two
minutes with no music and people just booing him.
Yeah. But then, yeah,
but I'm telling you this place, by
far the best, I'm ready to go back. And everybody who got up there and
sang was really good. Yeah. It was super
entertaining. I tried. I tried
one time. Singing? Yep.
And everybody left.
When I got done, it was Beth and I.
bar.
That was it.
It was at Milfs.
At Milks?
I didn't know Milks did karaoke.
Yeah.
I'd sell American pie and by the time I got done we would only two there.
Dang.
Saeed's was the best until this place.
This, uh, yeah.
Loudoun shot up the list of like tracks.
Yeah.
I've always hated it going to Loudon, but I'm like, yep.
I was going.
Well, two years ago we went to like it was a bar two down from it.
Oh yeah.
and they had karaoke
so we're like oh we're gonna
that was a fun night
we're gonna go back to that one
well it was shut down
and it had like an arrow
up to this
go to this one
yeah and dude
it was
dude they like live streaming
everything
no way
oh yeah yeah
shit next year
I'll tune in from home
let me know if you guys go
it's a DBC bonus episode
yeah they had you know pool in there
beer pong
yeah I'd never been
I've been on like a stage one time
with like Cole Swindow
and like all the people were out there
but though
I've never been like at a venue like that
and dude
when I was up front and I, like, got out front with these fans.
I've seen you on stage at Tootsies singing, by the way.
Dude, these, I'm, yes, I agree.
I mean, I've been on stage, but nothing like, I felt like I was at a concert.
I'm like, God, damn.
Do you sing in a solo?
No, no.
Keep him calm?
No, he does MRN during the race.
Yeah, yeah.
Do you guys, like, have funny, like, to talk to, like to...
No, we're pretty serious.
We're serious.
I mean, Cliff will kick your ass.
Pretty serious, huh.
You told him to shut the fuck up at New Hampshire in 2024.
Has it happened? Has it happened since?
Yeah, I need it too.
Has it happened again since then?
No, we've only ever yelled at each other twice.
And totally, we do it every month.
We do it every month.
To New Hampshire, they were, yeah.
It's in fucking northeast.
Yeah, exactly.
I did want to ask you quickly about any go.
I got to get out of here soon.
But high limit, obviously things going well.
I would assume you got teams like Spire buying in, Chase Briscoe now buys in.
Everything trending, like how you wanted to with this charter deal and everything else?
Yeah, I mean, I believe so. I think, to me, it's neat, like when you have a spire come in or Chase Briscoe wanting to come in. I mean, there's two avenues they can choose. You know, if you want to be on national tour, you can go outlaws or high limit. And yeah, they believe in the path that we're on. And I think that's awesome. I think that speaks a lot about what we've done to this point. And we've only been a series now for going on three years. So, yeah, it's awesome. And then, I mean, obviously the on track product's great. There is so much unpredictability. I feel.
like in high limit, you know, you go to the outlaws and it's like, okay, it's going to be,
well, right now it's going to be Sheldon, Buddy, Gravel, Carson, Logan.
In high limits, like, dude, I mean, yeah,
could you go might take a provisional, we might win the next night, right, so.
And then there's, I mean, five or six guys that could win the championship.
So it's fun.
I like it.
And, yeah, I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish this point as a series.
Talk about watching the kids race.
Has that been?
Yeah, it's fun.
Yeah, it's, uh, it's always.
good, senior kids enjoy something
and do good at it. And this year
we start our own team, so that's been a lot of fun. It's hard to
believe you trust Clinton Boyle that much, but I mean.
Yeah, him and Carson do a great
job. So, yeah, it's fun.
Owen, dude, he's racing.
I mean, the adults he's racing with
and kids, like, they're really good.
So he's been getting a lot better this year.
Audrey, she's been killing it in the
junior sprint, so.
At what point they're going to have to start racing each other?
Audrey's 8,
Owens, I mean, it'll be, I mean, a couple years, a couple years from now.
How's that going to go?
Oh, it would be great.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, Audrey, she talks a lot of smacks.
She seems way more cutthroat than Owen is, like, way more.
Andrew's playing, like, ice hockey and shit.
Like, she's hardcore.
Me and her go at it, like, every day.
So I'm watching, I'm watching, we're at dinner the other than night, Saturday night,
and I'm watching Milbridge, and she was like,
the scales, but so I'd start last in the heat and like she's lagging back on the start,
running this crappy line and all this and only passed like a couple cars and I'm just like,
you suck.
He's fired up.
He's like,
she enters the low,
then she slides them to know.
I text Caitlin,
I'm like,
put her in the cadet series because she sucks right now.
She's running like a cadet kid out there.
So they face timing and she's sitting there.
I'm like,
what are you doing?
Like, come on,
you're better than this.
She's like,
well, you suck in NASCAR.
She was going at it.
An eight-year-old.
Yeah, she's like,
she's like, don't even talk and you suck too.
So, but yeah, like backing up to Knoxville,
the week of Iowa, I was winning, you know,
because all this time I've been, you know,
she'll have a tough race or something,
or I'm just hard on her to be hard on her.
She's like, well, I've got more wins than you this year and blah, blah,
so I went on that heater.
I'm like, what are you going to do?
You got to have to win to catch me.
So, yeah, that's good.
I like bantering with her.
And she can take it.
And I think she'll give it back.
I watch her at Milbridge.
I'll see her in a crowd of kids.
And she's like kicking boys in the shins.
And like,
I mean,
she holds her own.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No,
she's tough.
But she's good because she can like,
she'll be going a little bit too much at me
and she'll think we're like joking.
And I'm like,
no,
I'm not fucking kidding.
Right now.
Like,
I should.
Okay.
Sorry.
Sorry.
So it's good.
But Owen,
like,
he's more sensitive.
So you got to be soft with him.
That's good.
Sweet.
Evan, did you have your booth question?
Are we going to keep river?
Yeah, this is, I know you talk about this on the flow after the sprint car stuff, but for the people that don't know, can you talk a little bit about Paul Silva and what makes him so good at what he does?
Yeah, he's just, yeah, Paul's amazing.
I think Paul, it's, you know, a lot of cruise sheets, I feel like have experience racing something.
And Paul's never been in anything.
And I think that's what's so awesome about his success is that he can see what the car needs and not necessarily have ever felt it.
And I think that's what makes us good because I don't feel like I'm the best at describing what I'm feeling a lot of times, but he can see it and fix it.
And then I can just focus on driving and being really good and fast that way.
He's done this for a living since he was 18.
He's been a car owner.
So for him to build his team and have the success and when every big race there is out there is amazing to me.
And I'm super proud of him and Trevor too.
I mean, they're a duo Trevor Canales.
And yeah, we do it also as a part-time team.
I think that's also amazing.
So always enjoy getting to work with Paul.
He's, I mean, he reminds me a lot of Cliff in a much more like introverted way,
but how serious they take their role.
their job.
So I'm very lucky to be with both Paul and Cliff.
But yeah, it's, I don't know, he's just the best.
Yeah, I just wish he would shut the fuck up sometimes.
Yeah, you can never get the guy to stop talking.
Yeah.
What's next?
For what?
Sprint car.
I think you're done, right?
Yeah, I won't run again until the winner.
Yeah.
I'll go out to California run a couple of midget races probably.
Are you running a chili bowl?
Yeah, I'll do chili bowl.
Maybe.
When's that, when's that Daytona test?
I heard they canceled it.
Oh, they cancel it?
I'd be heard.
Now I go to chili bowl.
DBC goes chili bill.
That's what we should do.
How pissed off was Trevor that you stole his ride?
Yeah, I took a second start in the Knoxville Nationals from him.
No, I think they're all happy that we were able to make it back.
A lot, you know, I wasn't expecting to get back there to have a chance to add another
Knoxville Nationals.
And I think, you know, Paul going from getting $15 grand to $200,000 goes a long way.
so I know he was pumped.
For sure.
All right, DBC picks.
Freddie, you won.
God.
Dug.
Congrats.
I don't even know
what the standings are.
Okay, I have to pick first.
I guess that was the worst.
Jesus, Carson.
I am going to take
Noah Gregson.
Stenhouse.
Oh, you fuck.
Stenhouse.
Who's up next?
You?
You?
You.
You guys can talk it out.
Oh.
Oh, if I'm looking at this list,
I'm thinking Todd Gillen.
Yeah, I was Todd or,
Custer.
Yeah.
Damn, Custer fucking didn't cut just a break.
Anybody had break, lap it on me the other night.
But I'll,
Todd's in a blue oval for, uh,
okay,
we'll go with Custer.
What?
No,
no,
I was,
I was saying like,
let him think,
I was going to say Todd.
Sorry.
Oh,
yeah,
because the fours is,
that's what I asked good.
Todd father.
A million dollar man.
All right.
SVG is going to be safe.
Yeah.
I feel like this weekend.
I'm going to go.
I'll take Riley. Why not?
All right. My buddy Riley. I don't know where else I can pick him. So this might be a good one for him.
He's always pretty, he's always up front. He had a shot at the 500. He did. He was up there pushing for sure.
All right, guys. It's time to get into weekend winners. And I know we've talked to past couple shows about having a winner on and maybe talking to some of those guys. So this weekend we have John McKinney on from the Whel and Montor win at Loudon. Welcome to Doorbubber Clear.
Yeah, thanks to having me on. Big fan on the show.
watch you guys all the time. So thanks having me on.
We decided we were going to do this, you know, we talked to me and Tommy and
talk about it with all and everybody. Like we want to like spice this up a little bit.
Talk to somebody, be there a big win, a good story, whatever it was.
And you just happen to check all the boxes because I think the modified tour race at Loudoun
is probably one of the best races of the year. And I know it's something that you've been
trying to win for a long time, came so close so many times in Tommy's car.
How rewarding was it for you to finally, finally seal the deal and get that wind done Saturday?
Oh, it was big. It was, in a way, I feel like a big weight off my shoulders. Like you said, I was close a few times driving for Tommy. You know, I had, I was very fortunate, lucky Tommy gave me the opportunity to drive his car there the few years. And he always gave me a great car. I was always so close. And I just, I just, I couldn't close the deal a couple times there on the white flag, two to go would be leading. I'd be second.
So yeah, to win it this past weekend was this huge.
I thought it was a great race.
I watched some highlights of it.
And those last eight to ten laps,
it was like you had that whole top half of that pack,
literally bump with a bump at two by two.
That could have been anyone's race, I thought,
really anyone that talked in the last few laps.
Talk about how on, because you did it a little unorthodox.
You know, you were kind of baiting those guys to go to the outside,
then you would just ship it off into the corner.
talk about how on edge you are in those moments where you know you got to bomb it off in there to get back clear.
I mean, you look like to me you were hanging off into your life at some points.
I was and it's funny you noticed that because I went into that a little bit different.
Yeah, like I said, I thought if I could break the draft a little bit early, as long as it wasn't too early and I can keep them to my outside.
And as long as I could drive in hard and straight, I knew I could clear them.
but yeah it was tough though i mean it was certainly sometimes my car was on edge full wheel sliding
sometimes i was loose in um that last lap passed you and i pretty much skimmed across ryan's
front bumper in the turn one on the last lap i bottomed out into turn one was loose just about
wrecked but was able to you know keep it somewhat in control and i cleared catalano off a two
and luckily they all kind of stacked up off the corner
and I had a good lead get on the back straight away.
But yeah, it's just a tough race.
It's physically I feel great.
Mentally, though sometimes it's just draining
because there's so much going on.
The spot is a huge part of it.
Joey Campbell spotted for me this past.
We can do an awesome job.
Joey spotted with me when I drove it for Tommy for a year.
So it's cool to have him back.
Yeah, he was a huge part of that win.
Talk about your season as a whole.
Obviously, you're doing a lot of racing and run the super still.
You went Friday night, ran second at Lee.
Like, how hard is it to adapt to these race cars when you're getting in and out,
different series, different tires, you know, modified, you know, the MRS stuff,
the tri-track stuff, whatever it is?
And then you get out and go over in a super somewhere.
Like, just talk about how versily you've got to be up there doing all the different stuff
you're doing.
Yeah, it's certainly challenging, you know.
I've been doing it a long time, though, since I was little, you know, my dad got,
minute when I was young age and pretty much my all the years I've been racing I've driven a lot of
different open wheel stuff I've been pretty active every year just racing as much as I can and um yeah I mean
each car certainly has its challenge right I mean I always say one of the hottest things about a big
block super modified is you know it's extremely light and that car has almost 70% left side weight
and it's a car that's really easy to overcorrect when that thing gets loose.
It just wants to bite off the left rear and go dead right.
So, you know, the modified too is a challenging car, you know, fairly heavy, low down force,
sometimes easy to overdrive, a lot of slipping and sliding.
So each car has their challenges.
And yeah, I just started, I've been fortunate.
And I've worked really hard at this my whole life.
This is, you know, I've been fully committed to it.
This is what I want to do.
and, you know, I've been lucky to be able to adapt to all these cars and have good success.
You know, some guys can do it.
Some, you know, a lot of them can't.
But I guess I'm lucky enough I can kind of bounce around and be pretty successful.
What's the, I know here we are in almost September now, right?
We're getting a couple weeks, week or two away from September.
How many races we got left on a schedule?
Because I'm sure it's a lot.
Yeah, the modified tour, I think there's four or five left.
And, you know, I still got a handful with the monocle.
try track series as well as some super modified stuff.
So roughly probably I'd say 12 or 14 races left.
Yeah.
They'll be snowing up there soon.
Man, we really appreciate you jumping on here.
We like to do this, man.
It helped me and Tommy out a lot because obviously we've both worked with you, Tommy,
obviously for a little bit longer.
I've spotted a couple races for you.
And it helps now that we can kick off this weekend winters where we start talking to somebody.
It helps it to modify guy for one.
I promise for the people down here, we will.
put subtitles on this for anybody
doesn't understand what New England
accents sound like.
He's got one of the worst.
I mean, best.
I should say best.
Is it that bad?
No, no, it's great.
It's great.
Nobody under here's going to have any idea what the fuck you said,
but it's fine.
But no, man, John, we really appreciate it.
I'm a man.
Congrats again.
I know how much that win meant to you.
I can see in Victory Lay.
I can kind of see you're not real an emotion.
You're never really an emotional guy,
but I can see it in your face
when you got out of the car Saturday in Victory Lane.
That one really meant a lot.
Yeah, for sure.
And yeah, thanks having me on again, guys.
It's been fun.
Hopefully we get to do it again soon.
Yeah, man.
Win some more big races.
We'll try.
All right, brother, have a good one.
Hi, Ben. Thanks.
All right, thanks, John, for joining us.
We'll get back into the rest of our weekend winners here with Corey Day, winning Friday at Tulary and Saturday at Placerville.
Aaron Ritzel wins Thursday at Santa Maria.
High limit racing?
High limits.
High limits.
Top of the, top of the boards these days.
Yeah.
Corey's, obviously, Corey's okay from everything.
It's going out and kicks everybody's ass.
Dude, he flipped a hard on the same day.
Yeah, yeah.
Seems like he bounced back, okay.
Kyle Bush Invitational, Preston Wisely wins the legends.
Carson Sherman wins Bandoz.
I love to seeing all the content from that all weekend.
Some super sweet photos came out of that.
Cars store. Carson Lofton gets his first late model stock win.
Shout out Carson Lofton.
Bad ass race.
That was a good race.
Another first time winner Brody Monaghan in the pro late model division.
Figure out his shifting issues from...
Bless it.
I told him that intros.
I was like, buddy, are you going to be able to shift this weekend?
He was like, shut the fuck the full of him.
field like three times missing shifts for the point where they
like in a lay model that's dude it's
in a pro in a pro they're tough to shift
well he it was second third fourth
for that race yeah yeah we were at hickory
so he was kind of I missed when I ran that
one car sir I'm like grinding
shit I can't figure it out I'm like
you ran caraway right yeah yeah
oh god that was a choice anyways
uh
they're like a long
can't reach it's so slow yeah they've gotten
a little better since then he's a clutch
I'm like what is this
All right, flow racing night in America.
Hudson O'Neill Wednesday night at Mason City wins.
Bobby Pierce Tuesday at Marshalltown.
Briggs-Danner wins the Benton House in 100 at Springfield.
Danny Dietrich wins 20K at Port Royal.
Aaron Willisson wins the Race for a Million Sprint finale at Colorado National.
Paul Neenheiser wins the IRA Sprints at Angel Park.
Drake Edwards wins Badger Mizzits at Angel Park.
I'm going to let you hit up Stafford and all of your friends in how you pronounce their name.
Marcello Rufano won the SK.
Modified race.
I can't do the modifies.
I can't.
My buddy Wayne Corey, man.
Wayne's been out of a long time.
It's good to see him get a win.
He's kind of tightened up the points battle to you there.
He won a late model race.
Chris Matthews has been running S.K. Lights for 37 years.
He won again on Friday night.
Duane Provost won the limited race.
PJ Evans somehow beat Ryan Waterman.
I didn't see that race at all in the street stocks.
Bowman Gray, Brandon Ward and Zach Orr, the winners.
It rained about halfway through the show.
Bert Myers won his 12th.
modify a championship over there.
It's usually either
Bird or Tim it feels like.
Billy Greg, Brad Lewis,
and Stephen Sanders
all first time champions over there.
So that was cool to see.
Some random ones.
By the way, all of that stuff
that we just read off was on flow this weekend.
So if you don't have your flow subscription,
I don't know what you're waiting for.
But to get back to some more random ones.
Did you guys see who won the IROC race by any chance?
I don't know.
The positive.
I don't know.
Does that come from,
what the hell was that thing?
Did you see him after the race?
He's a little war out.
Really?
Yeah, yeah.
What the hell was that thing?
Everybody was bitching about the road course race and, was it test track or some shit they were all bitching about years ago with the old car.
Jeff Gordon swept the I rock races in the D.C. Capitol race.
Who won the IndyCarc?
Kyle Kirkwood.
American.
American.
American.
American.
Out of boy, Kyle.
I think he dominated, too.
Sheldon Hodge and Logan Shoohart won.
Sheldon W.
Schuart won at Jackson on Saturday.
The World Outlaw late models was Bobby Pierce, surprisingly enough, won.
again. He wants on a
Hawkeye 100. I think they said that was
a single season record. 19 wins for the world out of L.A
models. Hudson O'Neill won
at maybe Kyle, you can help me with this one.
You have any idea where that is?
Macquil.
Macquita? You know where you've ever
raced before?
Macalquita. Bubba Pollard won at Cordillo.
You haven't run any light models this year,
have you? Not in a couple years.
Really? Yeah. How good is that car? Because Hudson
now is driving Rumley's shit and it's just
I mean, I feel like they're the fastest thing every time they show up.
Yeah, they're definitely in contention, so I might have to get back in that.
I just randomly saw a clip.
It had to be, must be, when did you win in Allgaier's car at, is it Knoxville?
Probably 21 or two.
Like, I just randomly saw a clip the other day, and I'm like, this fucking guy.
I think they have more grip than the lay model.
Really?
Yeah, it was weird.
It was fun.
That was cool.
Other than that, Thomas, what you got going on this week?
Can I put some new spark plugs in the modified?
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm actually going to go to a.
Daytona for this week and Luke's running
what's he running?
Pensacola.
I thought you're talking about what pentacola.
I was running Pensacola Friday night
in the late model.
What else?
Carson,
we're off for a couple weeks?
Yeah,
cars tour is off this weekend.
However,
beyond,
I can't stay home.
So I have signed myself up
to go to Indy to pick up a new trailer
for a car store
and I'll go to Smackdown
while I'm there for the weekend.
And so I am excited for that.
I haven't been to Smackdown probably
since.
Smackdown's sick.
I wasn't 21.
So it should be fun.
Kokomo.
Oh,
that sounds like a frolic.
Yeah.
Sure is.
I made the mistake.
There's a karaoke night there too.
I think it's on Thursday or Friday night.
Kyle,
you have your winter planned out?
What are you doing?
Racing-wise?
Not a whole lot of racing.
Probably, let's see.
Yeah, I'll probably run Placeriel in the midget.
I think we'll have sprint cars there too.
And then I'll do turkey night.
And then Tulsa shootout and Chili Bowl.
That's a month.
That's four weekends, right?
Are you going to race a shootout or are you just going with the kids?
No, I'm definitely racing.
Oh, you're definitely.
Can't go.
You're just going to say for someone like you to sit in that building all week long and you might as well just race.
I mean, I kind of like the shootout more than Chili Bowl, honestly.
It's fun.
As a driver from a driver's side of it, because you're, dude, you're on track.
Multiple times every day.
Chili Bowl, I race Monday and I leave and I come back Friday.
So, yeah, I like the shootout.
That's fun.
Tyler, what are you got going on this week?
Anything good?
Were you singing?
Yeah, what we're saying?
Karaoke this week?
Where are we going?
Saiz or?
No.
He's got to go to Yaias?
Oyster pub and sit.
Yayaas is good karaoke.
Yeah, Yazas is good karaoke.
Yeah.
Well, he'll be singing.
Yeah.
I don't think.
No karaoke.
I heard people singing in there, but I don't think there's karaoke.
I was going to say.
Anywhere's a karaoke bar if you try hard at it.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Probably won't have time, you know.
It's probably won't have time.
one day show or one day in and out one day.
So, yeah, we'll get a tour going.
I'll get the dates and we'll get it out there.
Tadiga, Saturday night, right?
We'll start posting.
I got the dates on the shirt.
I was going to go look.
I've never heard of New Mexico Albuquer.
But no, thank you guys for joining us.
We appreciate it.
Hopefully this won't be the last time.
If it works out Saturday, where you win or, you know, you have to.
We'll have to come on.
We'll come back next week.
Before every Speedway race.
But no, thank you guys a lot.
Tyler, thank you.
We'll have you back for sure multiple times now that you're permitted.
Yeah.
Kyle, we'll drag you in here whenever you want to.
But thank you guys for listening.
We'll be back next week.
We're out.
Bye.
Thanks.
