three-time NFL defensive player of the year, two-time Super Bowl champion, the only unanimous defensive selection for NFL MVP, the real L-T, Laurence Taylor. Hello everybody. Okay, I'm just happy to be here, and I'm going to answer whatever questions he asked me. I'm not going to ask no questions.

Hey, this is his show, so let's get it done. Thank you. I appreciate it. a tongue twister to get out all of your accomplishments. You need so much. In my eyes, and not just my eyes, but many others' eyes, you're the greatest defensive player of all time. You are the goat. What accomplishment meant the most to you? You know, what's accomplishment meant the most to me? I think I went 86 when I was NFL MVP, that was a big big deal. And, um, I, um, juries. And, um, jose a big deal. And, um, jose.

Just playing with the Giants. I mean, when we first came in, when I first came in, the Giants hadn't been to a playoff game in 25 years or something like that. So just be able to get to that playoff and play well. Bill Parcell, Bill Belichick,

Ray Perkins, I'm telling you that I have going through some great coaching, a great coaching, you know. And I'm just happy that it turned out well. Yeah. I'm happy it turned out well. Couldn't have turned out much better. Well, it could have, but it could have. But I tell you, I've had a, I've had a great time playing with the guys that

played against, playing with the guys that played with, you know, you're thinking about it coming out of college that you, you know, you, you want to do well. You want to be in the pros. You want to make money. You want to do a lot of different things. And you can't stop. I mean, you can say, well, just because I've been drafted, I'm going to be able to do all these things. You got to work. Yeah. You got to work. You got to put it. You got to put it in perspective. and luckily I had a great coach, which I consider him a great coach.

Bill Pardsell's. I mean, I consider him a great coach, and he helped me throughout the years to be the man I am. Elabor in that. What was your relationship like both on the field and off the field with coached for ourselves? Well, Bill understood. Hey, that he's, hey, he understood that he's the coach, but I'm going to do what I want to do. Actually, you know, a, I am, when I go out on a, on a game day and stuff, you know, I said,

I've had, you know, all kinds of problems and stuff like that, but, hey, not on football Sunday, not on football Monday. Yeah. You know, when I go out on the field, I want to bring the best I can to be the best. I want to be the best player on the field, you know, and Bill, he understood that. So he allowed me to do the things I do. He allowed me to do it. You know, he, uh, I remember he telling me he just get on my, on my, on my, on my butt all the time about, you know, you got to do this. You got to do this. You got to do this. And, and, and. And every time I didn't do that, I always made a big play. It was a big play. Because I know if I'm out of position, you better do something good or you wouldn't have to listen to him. All right.

And so he said, yeah, he'll say something like, okay, I'm going to let you do it your way. Yeah. He said, I'm going to let you do it your way. If you want to do the defense this way or you want to go here and there and stuff, I'm going to let you do whatever you want to do. But as soon as you screw up, you got to do what I want you to do. And that was a deal we had. So I didn't have to listen to him for next 10 years.

They're going to have to tell you. But Parcells is hell of a coach. Yeah. He's a hell of a person. And I'll tell you what, he made, I was a great player, a good player. Parcells made me a better player just with him. Yeah, he did. We talked about your love of golf.

Yeah. the golf with the basketball goat, Michael Jordan. Oh, yeah, but we play a lot. We play a lot, a lot. A lot. And Michael's a very good player. We go back and forth. But it's the one thing about Michael, you got to understand, all right.

That's something you take the loose. Okay. And at the end of the day, you can beat him on every hole. He's going to press you on that last hole. He's gonna press you on that asshole and then listen, hey, and you got, hey, I mean, this is one time. And this is not all the time because they listen, we go back and forth. We go back and forth. I'm beating this one time.

And he's down about, I don't know, like 19,000 or something like that. So he wants to double the last hole. He wants to double the last hole. Man, I didn't kick, I beat you all day, and now you want to double on the last hole. I went in, because it's Michael's like this. If you don't double him on that last hole, then you'll never play with it.

But, you wouldn't allow it. We dealt with a lasso. He lost the lasso. Yeah. So we're sitting there and he waiting to get paid, but we was at a casino. And not only did he pay me, he actually gave me a tip. I'm like, well, that was that was the most unbelievable.

believable thing I've got you got your kick and you gave me a tip I was well but I don't don't get me wrong I'm not saying that I'm a better golfer than Mike I'm not saying Mike's a better golfer I think we both are compared to each other and yeah we enjoyed the games and um and when when I see him I don't care what type of smile I got on my face. I'm trying to whip his... And that's the same thing. He's going to try to whip fire.

That's legendary. Yeah. Growing up, I heard about that legendary 86 giant defense you mentioned. The legendary 85 bears defense with Singletary and Richard Dent, the 2000s Ravens defenses with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. In today's NFL, with all the rule changes that affect the defensive player, Do you think it's possible that we see a defense that physical and that dominance? I don't think we'll see another defense like that because the rules don't allow it. You know, you can't hit the quarterback.

You can't hit. You can only hit the running back at a certain spot, like about three inches down from the waist belt. So, I mean, stupid stuff. Yeah. To play good defense, there got to be some intention. accommodation, okay? It's not about when I go out on the field on the Sunday morning and going to a stadium,

it's not about I'm going to play the best that I can play. Yeah. But the thing is that, I've already got a reputation. People are already scared of what I'm going to do. So I'm so listening, that's where you, when you can win the battle before you even get off, off the bus? Oh, my God. It's great. It's great. And that's what I enjoy. A lot of people would say with the rule changes today, it's maybe a good thing because there's a lot more offense, more touchdowns,

more scoring. What would you say to that? I'm a defense to play. Why the hell I want that? Yeah. Yeah. I want that. I know, listen, I want a lot more scoring and so. That's not what I'm looking at. Then why even have us out there? Yeah. Why even have us out there? You can't play, you know? Why even have you out there? I understand.

You know, you say, well, you know, they're trying to make the game where you don't get hurt. What kind of game is that? What? Yeah. That sounds crazy, right? Listen, NFL. in the NFL, we hit. Yeah.

We run. We hit. We tackle. That's what we do. And sometimes people got to get hurt. But we will wish them the best, okay? Maybe they, you know, send them a card or something. But, hey, we got to play.

This is what we do. Yeah. You know, you guys, the game is physical. I like a physical. I can't have no fun if we're going to have. two-hand touch. No, I'm not having no fun like that. I understand that, but I don't want

people to get hurt, but this, gosh, I learned a long time ago if you're going half speed. If I'm going full speed and you're going to have speed, you're going to get hurt.

Yeah, okay. Or if I'm going, or you're going full speed and I'm going to half speed, I'm going to get hurt. So listen, the thing is, pull full speed, less chances of getting hurt. And at the end of the day, you go home or the game's over if they come over and they shake your hands, say, hey, enjoy that. That was physical. Yeah.

What do you think when people try to compare your name to a player in today's game like a Micah Parsons? That was a cute way to get in there. Okay, but Michael Parsons, I'm quite sure. He's a good player. He's a great player. One's better than the other. There's always been good players and stuff.

I mean, and I don't know. I mean, he's a good player. He's good at what he does. Okay, he's good at what he does. I'm, I was good at what I do back in my days now. What else is to say? I mean, Michael Parsons, you're good. So it's not good for anybody to compare.

you guys because you guys are different players different players man I'll tell you what we're just players I actually hit people okay all right so we're different type of players it's not a fair comparison it's not fair at all I know you go I win okay I win you do win we know that that goes without saying right you weren't a unanimous MVP by accident yeah right yeah you went with my buddy Eric to the the Giants game versus the Eagles. I know that. What do you think about this Giants team with DART and Scadaboe

and this defensive line? I mean, I've got it in which you hadn't asked that question. Because at the end of the day, it's not fair comparing the Giants nowadays John's to the yesterday Giants because like when I was playing because we actually had to hit people, okay? You know, right now, I don't know, what type of football they're playing, but it's a different type of football that I play.

Yeah. But that's the way the league is, okay? And they have a good quarter, a great quarter. I'm not going to say great. I'm not going to say great because great is no, no, no, he'd have a good quarterback. They have a good running back and to have a good team. that they have to put it all together. Now, how the heck do you play the other night?

And you want to play, was it the secondary? I mean, yeah. Prevent defense. Yeah. What the hell are you preventing? Because I believe in this. I tell you what you're preventing.

You're preventing your team from winning. Most of the times. Because at the end of the day, I didn't kick your butt for three quarters, three and a half quarters, three minutes and three quarters, 11 minutes, eight minutes and 32 seconds, I've been kicking your ass and all of a sudden I wanted to go, now I want to play prevent. Makes no sense. No, listen, no prevent.

And I understand, I understand that is always a call because back in our day, that's what always everybody thought, well, listen, if they're going to score, we're going to make it harder for them to score because the other guy used more time and get down the field. But they're looking for a day going to field goal. A guy can kick a, he can kick a 50-yard field goal. What the hell are you looking at? Yeah.

Hey, send the dogs in, you know? And that's what I, that was one thing I liked about Bill Parcells and, and Bill Chal. Bill Belichick, they send the dogs in, all right? They send the dogs in. They ain't going to listen.

The secondary have been sleep all day. Let them go ahead and sleep. We're going to send the dogs in. Yeah. Okay. That's what, well, that's how football goes.

So, I mean, it's, um, I enjoy it because, you know, that we go out there, we have a good time. And, and I, and I, I play physical. I, um, eight-man covers and we let you have the little, I don't want them to have nothing. No, let's go.

Yeah. Yeah. But I tell you, I enjoy the game. I enjoy the camaraderie. I enjoy the good, the bad, the ugly. And some of the guys, most of the guys that I've played against were still friends to the day. Yeah.

They know. I know what they're not going to give up. This guy right here, Jaworski or Cunningham or Thaisman or they ain't going to give up. You know, and you're not going to learn their, you're not going to earn their respect. Yeah. Just sitting at their, no. You got to go, you got to teach them, let them know that I know that you know that you can't beat me. Okay.

So there's that mutual respect of you and the guys you win against. Absolutely. And you can't play football unless you have that type of respectful guy. You know, if you just want to play stupid football, then they're going to play stupid football. But let's say, guys, at the end of the day, I know what you're going to do. I'm not looking to hurt you. You know what? I'm not looking to hurt you.

because I got to respect you in the first place. And it's all about respect and they're going, and giving them what they deserve. You expect, you think, I know you having meetings on, on the Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and all that stuff, and they're going over, hey, listen, hey, and they come up to it, Lawrence Taylor, so-and-so, such. Well, how you, you, does.

deserve to get the Lawrence Taylor that you want on Sunday night or Sunday or whatever, because you've worked so hard for it. You deserve it. I've got to give you my best. Yeah. You know, if I don't give you my best, what the hell? What the hell I'm out here for? So when you're out, you're thinking about the fans at home and that you need to put your best effort

through because, you know, they're committing to watching you. what bar I went to on Saturday, but, yeah, Jess, I got to, I got to give you what I got, because sometimes it's not enough. Sometimes they'll come out and totally get it to be a ass because in certain days. You know, everything don't work the way you want all the time. But, hey, I believe in giving my teammates, the other team. and the fans, I believe in giving them what I got. Yeah.

Okay? Some days it's not enough. Some days it's not enough. But you know what? Hey, sorry. Some days it's not enough. But you can always say that you did your best. I do my best, okay?

Now there's times where our decisions that we make that, at the night before I ain't the right decisions okay but I'm gonna give you my best okay didn't affect you much yeah it does okay all right but that's that's how I mean I I love it I love the contact I love the the the way we interact and stuff and and you win you're loose you know you're not trying to hurt anybody but you listen at the end if you come this side, you may get up. Okay? Yeah.

All right. Yeah. And you mentioned Joe Disman. You're still friends with him today. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You guys had that famous, well, infamous play. Yeah.

That, unfortunately, ended his career. But obviously, you were just playing 100 miles per hour. Yeah, I mean, I went to, I called him at the hospital, the verdict day. And I said, hey, Joe, man. And his wife got on the phone, right? And she said, I said, can I speak to Joe? She said, she covers up the phone, but I could still hear her. She said, Joe, it's that guy.

It's that guy. I said, well, okay. So I go and I say, and I talk to Joe, Joe, hey, man, I'm sorry, you know, what happens, stuff. He said, Joe said, hey, L-T, you know, you broke my tibular and phyllic. fibula? He said, you broke them both. And I said, Joe, you know I don't do nothing halfway. If I won't break one, I just want to break them both. Okay. But we're good friends, still good friends. And it is what it is. That's football. Yeah, that's football. A lot of people that are watching this are Gen Zers. That's kind

of our audience, really young. Say that again? A lot of people that watch us are Gen Z. They're really young. They're 18 to 24 years old. Oh, Gen Z. Yeah. Oh, I thought you're talking about the rapper. No. Jay Z. Jay Z. He's pretty good. He's pretty damn

good. Okay. I hope he's watching. That'd be pretty cool. Okay. But they might not know that not only are you in the NFL Hall of Fame, you're also in the WWE Hall of Fame. You main evented WrestleMania 11. You went up

against a 400-pound Bam Bam Bigelow in front of a sold-out, Hartford, Connecticut. What was that like? Hey, no, it was good. I made a good financial decision there. But let me tell you something. He was probably one of the best athletes I have ever seen. I mean, even in NFL, when I see all these big guys and stuff, he was huge.

But he could move. He could, one of the best athletes I've ever seen. I'm telling you what. And I'm serious. I was shocked. I was amazed. Bam Bam was, um, um, I remember when you were, I remember, you know, had this thing where he gets up on the top rope and stuff.

Yeah. And he, and he, he told me, man, listen, I'm going to climb this rope. I'm going to climb this thing. And then, you see, listen, I'm going to, listen, I'm going to climb this thing. I said, I'm going to jump on you. Don't move. Yeah. So I'm sitting there, I'm sitting on the bank, and he sit there,

and you never know when he's going to do it because he started arriving, coming up that post and stuff, and he came off that, and all I could do is just close my eyes, man. I'm like, hey, don't, but he is, it was like, hey, it was cool. Yeah. I mean, this guy was probably one. Seriously, if he had to play football and been like an offense alignment or a defense alignment, I think he could have excelled in that because he was hell of an athlete. How nervous were you going into that?

Is it a different feeling than getting ready for a football game? No, no, no, no, no. I get ready the same way. I get a bottle of scotch and then I'd sit there and sit there and, you know. Good way to get ready. I'm ready. I'm ready. The real LT.

You won't get that anyone else. I know, you won't get anywhere else. Yeah, that's the real LT. What are some of your other hobbies outside of football? You say you're not really a football buff. No, I'm not a football. I heard you're a beast on the golf course. You play with my buddy Eric.

I play with the, I play a lot of golf. And you just, and Eric, yes, I play with Eric, but Eric, he's not getting the golf. He's not getting the best L.T. He can get right now because right now I'm not, I've got some problems and stuff like that. So he's not getting the best LT that. I don't think he can even handle the best LT,

because he's still losing. Anyway, but. No, but seriously, I have a lot of fun. I play a lot of golf. I do a lot of charity work. I love to be around kids and stuff like that. And like I said, my life is better now than it has been in the past. You know, so I am happy with, you know, my life situation, my life, I'm happy with, you know, I'm happy with, you know, my life situation.

life, I'm happy with my partner in life, I'm happy with my friends. I'm cool. That's a beautiful thing. Yeah. You deserve it. Well, yeah, that's what I say. Okay. Do you think I could rock an earring like you?

I mean, I tell you, I've done about 14 films, and I enjoy, I really do enjoy doing the films. I read, we're gonna go back to where,

where my, was this, 1993, I was, involved in drugs. I had a bad little habit and stuff, you know. And I was in a rehab for, I mean, 60, 70 days, I don't know how long was. I was in for a long time. And just what happened, all the stone comes to the rehab, to the rehab, because he wanted me to be in the movie any given Sunday, right? And so I told me, well, I would love to, but I can't because, you know, I got a commitment

of, I had to stay, stay this thing for, you know, like 70 days or something like that, right? So just so happened, so all of a sudden they start shooting the film down. in Florida and stuff and he said well well why did you just come and be a a technical guy you know for we show so that we doing things they'll go away football players really doing stuff and stuff so hey I got out of rehab and and I go down and I watch the practice so they had Michael Duncan Clark you know from the Green Isle and stuff, well, he was playing the part of, that I was, they wanted me to play, right?

It was, and the problem was, we're going through, we're going through scene. He wasn't, really, he's big, but he's not aggressive, you know, he's not aggressive enough. He was not aggressive enough. So the director actually said, listen, hey, in the locker, we got, can you go in and put on a helmet and put on the uniform and then all the stuff and put the gear on and come out here and show Duncan how it's supposed to be played, right? So I said, man, what the hell? So I go out and I do this whole scene all by myself.

And after the scene was done, the director, he jumps up and said, that's what I'm talking about. He says, LT, you hired. Wow. And he said, Duncan, you're fired. Just like that. I'm sorry. So I, but I had a great time making the movie.

I'll tell you what, with, there's some great people in there. I had a great time doing that. And so after that was all with, then I went out and found some other stuff I wanted to do. And with John Claude Van Dam and all those guys, I got, you know, I moved around and had a good time. Yeah. What was your favorite role? I would say my favorite is not the biggest role, but I think my favorite was any given Sunday.

Yeah. Yeah, I think that was the, because it was almost something that I knew a little bit about playing football. A little bit. I might know a little bit about that. You could know something. I could see that. Okay.

But it was instant magic when you were on that set. Yeah, but I tell you, I had it. The guys, the people, I mean, you know, the cast, everybody was just right on the money, man. It was easy and it took a long time, though, to shoot, you know, four months. But it was worth it. Before we started shooting the show, we talked about how Mike Tyson came back to the ring and boxed against Jake Paul. Would you consider getting into the rest of the rest of the show?

wrestling ring again. Look, fighting Mike Tyson or Jake Paul, which one? Logan Paul in WWE, my friend. Would you wrestle him? First of all.

At WrestleMania. I am not, I'm not going up against Mike Tyson because, hey, he's a, man, he may forget this shit that,

you know, I got to watch out for that. So you're not wrestling him. No, I ain't messing with Mike Tyson. All right. I respect that. Would you wrestle against Logan Paul? Logan Paul.

It would be similar to Mike and Jake, you and him, the goat. Hey, anybody that used their fistful livid, I am not messing with. Okay? And listen, no, but seriously, hey, the guys nowadays, I mean some great athletes. I mean, they, when was the last time, you know, Mike Tyson, God damn, yeah, Jake Paul, I mean, you got all these guys, man. I tell you just never know what's going to happen. Yeah. I just never know what's going to happen.

It can't be fake. It can't be, listen. It's not like, you know, back in the wrestling days where you got, you know, George Becker and Johnny Weaver, you know. But I tell you what, I enjoy my life now. You know what? And there's things that I wish I could do, but I know I can't do. Not where I'm at right now. But it is what it is, man.

I tell you, I like, I do like going and watching giant games, you know. I know, to a point, to a point. You know, I'm the type, I'm a, I'm the type of giant fan that once they start losing, I turn the TVO. Oh. You know? So, hey, so, you know, I'm not a true, you know, I just don't, no, I don't want to see that. Okay.

But it is what it is. But you were pretty happy when they beat Tom Brady twice in the Super Bowl? You know what? Tom Brady is a hell of a player. Hell of a player. I'm very glad that John beat him twice in Super Bowl. But how does a guy like Tom Brady get that many Super Bowes? I don't know.

I mean, listen. With two teams. Tom Brady. Yeah. I mean, even the name sounds a little hmm. Okay, but no, I am great player. I mean, this is the, I just, you know, I just can't get it. He complains a lot, though y'all, too.

He complains. Every time I turn around, they got a Tom Brady rule in, you know, what the hell? The tuck rule. Yeah. You got a Tom Brady, but gosh, you get hit. Don't, did somebody tell you, in football, there is contact? Yes. Okay?

What would have happened if you went against Tom Brady full speed? Yeah, listen, that won't work. That won't work because I, that wouldn't work. Tom Brady, no. Me and Tom Brady, I mean, he's not going to outrun me. I'm going to, I'm going to hit him because that's what I do. Yeah. That's what I do.
