Starting point is 00:01:48 Hey, everybody, my name is Doug, and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies. Recording on Wednesday afternoon, September 30th, 26, just got back six days ago from Fantastic Fest, and boy are my arms tired from clapping for genre cinema. We didn't do standing ovations at the end of the movies like they do at the other fancy festivals, but it's a great annual festival that we will discuss further with one of my guests today. So let's just get to it. My guest today are Alex Castain, Amy Miller, and James Pound. Pound it.
Starting point is 00:02:53 What's that? Let's meet them all. Wake up, everybody. Let's meet them individually and alphabetically by first name, which today is the same order as if it was by their last name. He is a returning champion who went head to head with Lisa Trager because our third guest that day couldn't make it. it's Alex Castaid. Welcome back. Yes. It's great to be back, Doug. Thank you for having me. I got to defend this belt. Yeah. Well, you know, you and Lisa both did great that day, so I feel bad calling anybody the winner or the loser.
Starting point is 00:03:31 But since you were, in fact, the winner, that's why you're back. But that plus an excellent promotional opportunity because the show where the two of us met a mere month ago or however long ago, was we met doing comics untethered and uh and it's going to air on monday night and then nothing makes me more nervous than waiting for an episode of that show that i'm in to air well you were great on it you don't need to be nervous people are going to love you it was very fun it might be jarring for them to see you so just uninhibited and unleashed like that right sort of like seeing a rabid dog You're like, oh, my God. But, you know, overall, it is, it is what it is, and the people will love it.
Starting point is 00:04:18 People are used to my clean show that I do in nightclubs. But once I go on a TV show on CBS of all places, that's what I really go nuts. Doug, I mainly wouldn't worry because it is mostly commercials and, and it doesn't go on streaming yet because they didn't figure that out yet. So once it's over, it's over like classic TV. Well, the social media team is really pushing me to like, you know, mention it at several points, you know, like next week, this week, tonight. You know, they gave me all the assets. And I'll use some of them just because the hair person at that show really made my hair look nice. Doug, I found out the air date from your post.
Starting point is 00:05:06 They never sent me anything. I had to email them and be like, hey, get some of them. And they were like, I guess. I love the hair makeup team. They were really nice. No, they are super nice. And the whole experience was very pleasant except for the part where you have to be unleashed. Yeah, it's fun.
Starting point is 00:05:26 And we get to see Sam. Yeah. I just, you know, I appreciate Alex these kind words. But the edit can really affect your performance or lack of it. Like, they sometimes don't cut a comedian down to like you only. You're from like once the whole hour. It's going to be great. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Yeah. Well, I'm excited again to see. It's been a long time since I've done something where like, you know, you have to tune in to see, you know, what they used. You know, what got in and what didn't. Because you have to, you know, you have to pay attention to these things because I want to go back on the show and do the shit they didn't use the first time. Yeah, totally. I think of a new way to sell it to that less than. interested audience. Also, I DVR every episode on my YouTube TV if you need me to fill my TV
Starting point is 00:06:19 with my phone and send it to you. Let's get through these introductions, shall we? I'm excited to say, oh, I already said that. Thank you for being here, Alex. She is finally back. Everybody's favorite, Amy Miller. Hi, Amy. Hi, sorry about the other. time. No, that's okay. I think I was the official loser that day. Well, you know, I personally feel like if you get sick, that's like a free pass to not call and say, hey, I'm sick. You know, because even doing that, it's such a huge, take so much effort when you're sick. And also you feel like they're going to think you're lying anyway. Well, it's always effort that I take, but I did end up being like the sickest of my life. Yeah. It sounds like it was terrible. and so I didn't, I wasn't angry with you. You cut me out of your life.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Alex, Alex can tell you I was, I was, uh, defended you every step of the way. Well, also that was a, um, a silver lining for me was it was very scary and then it was fine because Lisa just texted me, Doug, exclamation point, we're worried. And I was like, oh no, what happened to Doug? Yeah, that probably wasn't You needed to word it But we were like, you know, we were at a time crunch Because we wanted to try to get in touch with you
Starting point is 00:07:47 Soon enough for you to join the proceedings But I'm excited that you're here today And that you recently were on the Comics Unleash program Yes And I wanted to ask you What is your favorite toss like setup Byron Allen through your way? Oh, um
Starting point is 00:08:09 Probably the, what drives you crazy? It's really fun because then you have to work that phrase into your existing material when I never, you don't tell it like that on stage. The bit wasn't about being crazy about something. Yeah. I mean, you could use almost any bit, but you have to start with that and it feels really funny. Yeah, no, I exactly had the same problem where the setup was just like, well, it doesn't make. me mad but I guess I have to frame it like it does. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:44 My favorite that he asked me was, so I hear you've been talking about expressions. Doug's always doing that. Because he's got his ear to the ground and like he knows like what we're doing out the club. And I was out there. I was talking mad shit about expressions. But I headlined the weekend before in Nutville.
Starting point is 00:09:07 He's such a pro Thank you for being here, Amy He was pulled from the crowd And then pulled off the win Last week at Fantastic Fest It's Austin, Texas super fan James Pound What's up James?
Starting point is 00:09:22 Hello, glad to be back Good Are you like Scrubbing something down while you speak? Oh no Some really interesting noises It sounded like you were like you know,
Starting point is 00:09:38 creating a countertop or something. So I hear you've been itchy. I hear you've been doing some sanding and some woodworking. Standing the fence. It's just adjusting my desk chair arms. Okay. With a sensitive microphone, it turns out.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Well, speaking of sensitive sounds, are you, are your ears still ringing from seeing Guar last week? Oh my God. They were incredible. I kept my distance. But it was very loud. So loud, and you had to keep your distance.
Starting point is 00:10:12 So like I mentioned before, James did Douglas movies at Fantastic Fest. It's this awesome genre movie festival in Austin, Texas, where they play the most, you know, for movies, super violent and insane, it's going to show at that festival. And closing night party, of course, was the band Boar. and it hurt my ears. But I did the same as you did, James. I stood. They handed out ponchos.
Starting point is 00:10:42 You know, you could have a poncho. I mean, I still have it. I kept it, but I didn't wear it. They had out ponchos because pretty much every number or every other number during a guar show, they squirt the audience with, you know, different colored. They do blood.
Starting point is 00:10:57 They do like alien goo, which is like green. And people really come out of that show, really all sorts of colors. I feel cool. Yeah, and it was so fun that that was like our closing night party. I mean, you know, a decent amount of people go to this festival, but it still felt very private, and it was at this place called Radio East in Austin,
Starting point is 00:11:18 so it also just felt like we were just in somebody's backyard, watching war just go crazy. Like, the other thing that's fun about it, James, you can confirm this for me, is that they're very violent and evil and scary, but also I think they're left leaning. I think everything they're mad at is Republican stuff, which also makes it so funny. It seems like they should be on that team, not the other.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Yeah. One of the bits was they sawed a ice agent in half, and they both have spurted blood and guts. It was awesome. Yeah, and it was the costume ended up being like two people because the two halves each wandered off on their own. That killed me. That was so funny.
Starting point is 00:12:00 You guys think you saw Gwar, but there's no telling who was in there. No, it's true. They could be anybody, and they really have, like, the lineup has changed a lot over the years. There have been some sad passings. And just the day after we saw them, James, one of the original, one of the founders who wasn't in that performance because he hasn't performed with them in a while. But Chuck Varga, aka this executioner, somebody else probably played the Selection. Cutioner when we saw them, but he passed away a couple of days ago.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Jeez. Yeah, and also just, you know, how much attention you're going to get for being a guy that in all the shows was in an elaborate costume, so you don't know what he, what he look like. Yeah. But very fun, very fun band to see. As my girlfriend said, very, is extremely enjoyable once. Yeah. Totally. Shout out, Richard in Virginia. But thanks for joining us, James. And before we play some games today,
Starting point is 00:13:06 I would like each of you to recommend one movie, and since October is here, I insist that it be a horror film, or at least a movie that you think is scary. We'll start with Alex. What do you got for us? Okay. I don't know if this is considered hack,
Starting point is 00:13:27 but I just showed it to my little brother, and it's so good. the vanishing. It's really hard to beat. The vanishing is so unsettling. It just sticks with you. The original, of course. Right, because what happened with that?
Starting point is 00:13:40 Like, how old is the original? Oh, God. Seventies? Yeah, something around there, right? Yeah, and then who was in the remake? The remake was like, you know, I think... It wasn't Sandra Bullock and Kiefer Sutherland, was it? no it was um
Starting point is 00:14:02 because i'm confusing it with a different movie no it was it was keithers sutherland and and uh jeff bridges oh okay oh and yeah Sandra bullock wasn't god i haven't seen that one so long yeah who's the who's the lady who gets buried or whatever i think that is Sandra who vanishes i think it's Sandra but yeah you're right the original vanishing was way better but i always uh i always get confused on that title and also about
Starting point is 00:14:31 the remake. But what just a just an absolutely harrowing you know storyline people who are in all these true crime shows these days would probably really dig that movie. Totally. It is just darkness. She's not in like
Starting point is 00:14:49 too many horror movies either. Really? Just that and blindside. That one where I was going to say the one where she can't see Bird box? Bird box? Blind box. Blind box.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Bird box. Yeah, bird box. I never saw bird box because it just seemed so silly. It just seemed like a quiet place, but with science and of sound. Right? It was fine.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I mean, I'm not a big horror fan as I was about to bring up, but I'll pretty much watch any Sandy Bullock. All right. So, and that probably is, like, I feel like it was an early horror movie early Netflix feature too right
Starting point is 00:15:35 yeah she's been in some suspenseful movies like speed and gravity but like horror I don't think Sandy's and then murder by numbers was like about a serial killer but it wasn't scary
Starting point is 00:15:51 because you know when Ryan Gosling is a serial killer how scary is it going to be yeah too horny to be afraid. I don't even know if he was a killer in that. I think he was in it though. All right, so what's your recommendation, Amy, of a
Starting point is 00:16:06 person that's not that into horror? Yeah, I'm too sensitive and afraid, but I do get into Joe Bob Briggs every October when he's doing like campy stuff and not too bloody and so I'll recommend
Starting point is 00:16:22 a classic chopping mall. Oh, okay. So it's part of my favorite genre trapped in a store right you love a you love a good I love anytime people are oh trapped in a mall trapped in a store target the secret mall apartment like yeah I just like when people are inside a store at night I should wear graveyard probably yeah absolutely just just fast size of original I can Is there enough mall action in that?
Starting point is 00:17:01 Yeah, I think so, for sure. There's quite a bit of mall stuff in that. But they're not stuck in there. What's that? Employee of the month, Dane Cook. Oh, yeah. With what's her name, Simpson, doing a character with Giant Hears.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Oh, yeah. Jessica. Career opportunities is, you know, the top probably. Well, that, I'm for anything that has someone roller skating through a scenario where you don't normally see roller skating. And Jennifer Connolly riding a horse really slow. Oh, yeah. Yeah, too. She did a lot of fun things in that movie.
Starting point is 00:17:45 I think there was a trampoline at one point. Yeah, that's incredible. Was that movie directed by The Man Show? Okay. James, what do you? We didn't talk much about Chobby Mall, but it is a classic. It's really fun. And it must, they must like, is the violence real fake looking?
Starting point is 00:18:04 Is that why you're okay with it? Yeah, it's pretty like bright red blood and there's not too many kills. It's like laser kills and stuff. Yeah. It's not too gruesome. No, it's really goofy. James, what would you like to recommend? Well, the one I thought of is going to push a button for both you and Amy from what you just talked about.
Starting point is 00:18:27 It's got roller skating out of nowhere, and it's real campy and silly, and it's very underseen, and it's called Fright Night 2. Bright Night 2. Why is there skating in it? One of the vampire goons roller skates around. It's like for no good reason. He's just on skates for no reason. It was just super cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Yeah, guys zipping around on skates. So, uh, what was, so this is the sequel to the original fright night with Chris Sarandon and Correct. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And it brings back, uh, the main kid and Roddy McDowell. And of course, a new vampire. Uh, it's a lady now. And, um, yeah. And then she's got super weird little minion dudes, the vampire and skates. Uh, Uncle Rico, John Greece is, like a wearer. wolf guy and I read he hates when people call him that. And now I laugh every time I hear it.
Starting point is 00:19:30 No, he gets like furious. Oh no. But he does all those tours for it. He can't be that mad. Yeah. He's also like, you know, what is what is he usually want people to call? I'm like, oh, look, it's guy from White Lotus. I think so.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Like he should be happy that they remembered his character name. for one of the things he's in. Because he's a good character actor, but who can name any other thing, any other character that he's played? Fright Night 2, Werewolf Guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:01 So, and then, and then many years later was the Friday Night remake with Colin Farrell and Anton. And that's fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Did you like that too? Yeah, that's good. So you like anything, Fright Night is what you're saying? I mean, yeah. Front Night 2 is basically the same story, but he's in college now. So there's a little bit more like different settings than just the two houses, basically.
Starting point is 00:20:31 So that makes it kind of fun. And it's just a little bit campier. And is it Zach Allegan? It's a dude that looks exactly like him, but it's not him. And not Jonathan Silverman. Oh, man. Yeah. But yeah, I guess so.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Yeah. I guess he was in both of them. I can't place it, but you know, now you've got me you've got to be curious about Friday night too. I'm going to say, thanks for these wrecks. And I'll be seeing at least two of these, I think.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I don't know if I need to revisit chopping mall, but hopefully these are available streaming somewhere. And we're going to game it up after this break. Starting point is 00:23:25 And our first game today is one of my favorites. It's called Whose Tagline Is It Anyway? I'll say a tagline from a legitimate existing motion picture. It has a page on IMDV. And then you name the movie. It's that simple. And yet, the difficulty level in this game is as high as I am right now.
Starting point is 00:23:53 What's the theme? Almost. And Amy, you can't ask for the theme. You have to suss out the theme as we go along. Sorry, I'm unleashed. They never got me back on. That's the thing. Once you do that show, you're permanently unleashed.
Starting point is 00:24:10 It feels great. I'm fully mentally up. I can just say anything except for stuff out of five or six. categories that they share with you before you go on the show. Like, I'm on, I'm unleashed, I'm not unleashed politically, let's say. All right. Now, Doug, I hear you've been coming up with themes for games a lot lately. Tell us about this.
Starting point is 00:24:36 I just, I wish they just leave it in, be looking at, I'm going, I have no idea what you're talking about. I have no idea what the fuck you're saying to me right now. You don't know me. Okay, so these are going to be, like I said, the difficulty level is ridiculous, so it's just fun to just make a wild guess. And then maybe as a theme emerges, it might make it easier for you. But I sincerely doubt it in this case, I'm being honest. Alex is up first. If he can't get it, he has a shot, and then James gets to pound it.
Starting point is 00:25:15 and if nobody gets it, it's no big deal. If nobody gets it, let's just move on to the next one. All right, Alex, you ready? I'm ready. All right, what movie has the tagline? Prepare to become obsolete. Prepare to become obsolete. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:39 This is striking me as robot. But with taglines, it's hard to know who are they speaking to. They're talking to us? Are they speaking to the reader? Why would I go to a movie that is all about my absolute destruction? Yeah, maybe it's like a man called Otto, and it's just talking like a boomer that doesn't have a place anymore. Is that your answer? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:07 I'll say like I Robot. I Robot is a great guess Under the circumstances But it is not the right answer Amy what do you think it is Prepare to become obsolete Schindler's list All right
Starting point is 00:26:22 I'm gonna Come over to your house And then show you where the door is It's like from the voice of Hitler Obviously not my voice Right I should have mentioned It's in quotes No, it is not.
Starting point is 00:26:40 It is just straight up, prepared to be obsolete. James, what do you think it is? I'll go robots too. No, not Rob, like the movie. Terminator Salvation. Is there Robots too? They make two of those? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:57 I like the first robots. I know. It's so charming. You know what? If there was some sort of point for having a guess, that's extremely educated and yet wrong. That's what you would earn right now. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:27:11 James, because because the answer, Prepared to be Absolute, is Universal Soldier the Return. Oh. From 1999 starring Jean-Claude Van Dam.
Starting point is 00:27:29 But my first guess when I saw that Prepare to Be Absolute was you know, AI, artificial intelligence movie, which I haven't seen in a while, but I remember being very upset by it back when it came out. It's upsetting. Yeah. No, because it makes you feel like, oh, this horrible threat of AI is a child with, you know, sad eyes.
Starting point is 00:28:01 There's nothing worse than a child with. what's sad eyes. Oh my god. What's that one patron that's all he did? But I take it back, his wife didn't it and then he stole it from her. Big Eyes was the Tim Burton movie about it.
Starting point is 00:28:17 With Christoph Walt. Yeah. I love that movie. I think we've had this conversation before because that movie drives me crazy. I know. I think Christoph Waltz is so poorly cast, but the scene where he does the classic
Starting point is 00:28:33 questioning himself where he keeps getting on and off the witness stand like any court would have it. It turns into a farce all of a sudden. Oh my God. So, yeah, it becomes very silly. But Alex, so the first movie was a universal soldier to return. I don't know how great of a clue that is to the theme. But here's the next tagline.
Starting point is 00:29:01 this legend never dies. Hmm. Well, the mind. Ooh. Is it Sandlot too? No. Damn.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Maybe. I'm going to guess labyrinth. Because that's just what you guess when you don't know. No, because I thought it fit. You think that's legit? The legend, is the legend David Bowie?
Starting point is 00:29:39 The legend of the labyrinth. Or the story of the labyrinth never dies. Yeah, all of it. I see. That's not it. Maybe I should. Okay. I like what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:29:52 I like, you know, you put some thought into it. I'm close, right? No. Oh. Wouldn't it be funny if it was like, the answer is like, Magic Crystal, like just the other puppet movie that came out the same year.
Starting point is 00:30:08 James? Bicentennial Man. This legend never dies. Was that Bicentennial's man's deal? Was that he was immortal? As long as his batteries are charged, yeah. Yeah, he had to have those batteries charged. So that was his, that was his kryptonite was having to have good batteries.
Starting point is 00:30:29 I don't think they had like did they even have the you know the the Energizer Bunny back then I think so I mean by back then I'm saying I'm saying a date that you wouldn't know when this movie came out
Starting point is 00:30:47 the legend never dies is the tagline for Hatchet Part 3 oh of course right I warned you that these were not going to be easy ridiculous how how this is wait did everyone guess
Starting point is 00:31:03 no James just guessed didn't he yeah it's a vice and senennial man and stand behind it yeah no I took his joke answer and made him keep it
Starting point is 00:31:14 but Hatchet 3 is directed by our friend Adam Green and it came out in 2013 so we got Hatchet 3 and Universal Soldier this could not be more difficult and Alex
Starting point is 00:31:28 here's the next tagline fate made them hostages the media made them stars oh is it uh fate made them
Starting point is 00:31:43 hostages god I'm like sincerely guessing Munich but I feel like fate uh yeah what's the
Starting point is 00:31:55 no it's true the media whenever there's hostages, the media make them stars. I don't know what's so special about this situation. Other than fate that are involved. Yeah. What is fate involved?
Starting point is 00:32:08 And not people. Yeah. I don't know. Munich. With the Olympics? It's not Munich, Amy. What? Um, I'm going to say Galaxy Quest.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Okay. Now, this time, you're saying it because you just love Galaxy. quest. No, because it fits. Wait, who was hostages? Well, I mean, they were kind of kidnapped. They were trapped in the spaceship. Yeah. Yeah, they were cornered. Because I'm thinking fate
Starting point is 00:32:41 like it's like it was accidental. It's not like, I thought it I thought it was a good guess. I'll never accuse you of an insincere guess again. I do love ghosts. The last time that happens. James, what do you think it is? Inside Man. This is another weird one.
Starting point is 00:33:05 This is a movie called S-F-W from 1994. It starred Stephen Dorff before he got into all of his work with golf. Oh, no, that was a different dorm. But, yeah, it was like really edgy movie about, like, satire about, I think they're in a 7-E-11. hostages in a 7-11. I think it's Matthew Lillard maybe. Oh, they're in a store.
Starting point is 00:33:33 No, it's Dorff. It's Rees-Witherspoon. And somebody else that we like, that we still like. So I might go back and look at that again, but SFW was supposed to be like, I think it's supposed to stand for so fucking what. But now
Starting point is 00:33:50 it means safe for work. Which doesn't seem like that energy of a title. Okay, so we got A dribble goose egg, nobody got any of these right And nor should you because They're so hard What a damn difficult
Starting point is 00:34:08 So now I got one more Let's see if one of you can pick this one off Because it might be a little easier than the others I'm not absolutely sure But to determine the game, Alex What movie do you think has the tagline? There is a theme with those other movies What movie has a tagline?
Starting point is 00:34:25 they're selling music but not selling out. They're selling music but not selling out. It really describes the movie, in my opinion. Most taglines fuck it up and they don't really say what's going to happen. I think I do it. Somebody's got to know it. James is it? Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:34:51 I know. There's one that's like on the tip of my tongue, but I'm not going to be able to pull it. So I have to just say high fidelity. No, but I get where you're headed with that, Amy. Empire Records. Damn the man. Yes, it is Empire Records.
Starting point is 00:35:07 Wow. Amy is finally on the board, but James, you knew it too? I did, and now I think I figured out the secret theme. All right, so this is fun that you, even though you didn't win the game, you get to reveal what the theme was. What is it? Is Guar on the soundtrack? Guar is on the soundtrack of all. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:35:31 It's a great scene in Empire Records. Yeah, yeah. No, they're straight up in Empire Records. And lots of other stuff. And it's funny you mentioned Joe Bob because I think they're in one of that Joe Bob's specials or movies or things that he's made. I think he's in Cahoots with Guar. He is in Cahoot's with Guar. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:56 All right. Well, you'll get more than just the one answer, I think, in our next game, I hope. And we will play it after this break. We're back, ADS. And our game to decide it all today, I'm so excited about this game. This game is called M. Night Strong all night long. Much maligned filmmaker, M. Night Shyamel. has some real bangers in his filmography.
Starting point is 00:36:32 At least six of his movies were certified fresh. I wrote down his top 10 ranked movies, according to the tomato meter and rotten tomatoes. And you'll take turns guessing which one of his films you think ranked high up on the list, because the higher up on the list your guess is. the more points it were is worth the number one movie is with 10 points and the number 10 movies worth one point and anything after that he's officially made 15 motion pictures so five of them are way down there in the old in the dog house feels just like more than 15 he's put us
Starting point is 00:37:19 through more than 15 yeah that's the twist of his career is that it's actually only been 15 feels like a life done he's got this new one that like this is the reason i started thinking about him is he just showed up somewhere there was recently they were having like a retrospective screening of one of his movies and then they said and a surprise or something like that in the advertising like it was going to be a double feature and then he he showed up it's probably in philadelphia he showed up and uh just showed his newest movie that's not coming out from like until february twist I mean, he always shows up.
Starting point is 00:37:58 He shows up in all the movies. Yeah. And it's called Remain, and I don't, I didn't really follow, like, what the reactions are to it. But, you know, obviously, he's quite polarizing, but he has made some classics. So, Amy won that last game. So she gets to go first, and then we'll flip the order around. So it goes, Amy, then, Alex, and James, like I said, you'll each get three guesses. but James did the show
Starting point is 00:38:26 of fun of the live audience last, so there were lifelines with audience members, but there's no lifelines here today. You're completely on your own. Amy, what do you think is the best-reviewed movie
Starting point is 00:38:41 from the catalog of Mr. Amnichamel. I might be making a bad choice, but I'm going to start with signs. Signs is not a bad choice. It got 76%
Starting point is 00:38:57 on the tomato meter. That film from 2002 is number three on the list. Ooh. So maybe you're feeling like you made a mistake but I think that's a solid start. This gives you
Starting point is 00:39:14 eight points. Alex, what's your first of three guesses? I got to do six cents. You have to? I have to. I have to. I'm getting, you know, the phones are rigging off the hooks.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Can I, oh, people call you to help you cheat? People who have pulled up the Rotten Tomato's website, figured it out. The sixth sense is the movie that he did show at this
Starting point is 00:39:44 screening and then he added his latest one after that. So that would be at least half of that double bill would be terrific because it, of course is his number one highest review of movie at 86%. I thought maybe people would have turned on it by now
Starting point is 00:40:04 or something. You know how people are just annoying on the internet? Yeah, I hear that. That's true. That's true because like it has been like I think since the initial burst of popularity people have kind of looked at it like well you know this storyline is kind of it's kind of flimsy. It's kind of bizarre that it takes an out long to figure out. that he's dead. But
Starting point is 00:40:25 James is up next with his very first guess. Go with Unbreakable. Number four on the list. My personal favorite M-night Shampard movie. I love it. So that's worth
Starting point is 00:40:46 seven points for James. I want to just talk about his movies, but I'll give away upcoming answers potentially. So let's talk some more about six cents. I always think of six cents every time I'm in a bathroom that has a towel dispensers that you have to run your hand by
Starting point is 00:41:08 to make it put a thing out of towel. Because I always think, well, if he just encountered that, if Bruce Willis just tried to do that, it gets suspicious about not being alive anymore. he doesn't wash his hands yeah so I think about it all the time I think lots of comics have latched onto that over the years so it's kind of hacky but I still
Starting point is 00:41:32 it still comes into my head every time I'm trying to get because I always think I'm a ghost every time it doesn't work which is which is often I think I don't know what it is me and my particular skin but I can't get those things to work back to you Amy Now this is your second guess. The number two movies is still available.
Starting point is 00:41:54 That's with nine points. But it wouldn't kill you if you got, you know, number five for six points, et cetera. Any more points you put on the board are going to help. Hey? I'm going to go with Split. Well, you did it. Split is the number two movie. No way.
Starting point is 00:42:13 On the list. Yeah, worth another nine points. Yeah, 79% for that movie. I like that one, too. what's his name McAvoy uh-huh James Mac is so good in that
Starting point is 00:42:26 so good it's sick and it also introduced us to well Anya onya on your Taylor Joy yeah Princess Peach wouldn't
Starting point is 00:42:36 wouldn't be a thing she wouldn't be the voice if it wasn't for that movie I really put her on the the old map so yeah so Amy's got 17 points so
Starting point is 00:42:48 the gentlemen need to go to work. Alex, let's get another one that's up there in the top ten. This is where it gets tricky. Yeah. What do we have on the board right now? I have six cents. We have the top four. The three of you really nailed the top four.
Starting point is 00:43:06 We have six cents split, signs, and unbreakable. The good ones. Those are my four favorites, I dare say. So what else is on the list, but not. towards the bottom, you know, you don't want anything from 11 through 15. I know. I have a coin flip between two right now. I'm going to say the visit.
Starting point is 00:43:32 That is the best you can do under the circumstances because it is number five. Oh, my gosh. Nice. I thought that would be 10 at most. Who was in that one? I feel like an unknown test. Yeah Is it aliens or a creepy little kid?
Starting point is 00:43:53 No, it's grandparents Oh Aren't they like It's like Hansel and Gretel They're going to cook the kids, right? Oh Oh, okay Now I think I know which one that is
Starting point is 00:44:04 Oh But it's like It's semi-known actors Playing the older people, right? Yeah It's like Oh, who is it? Not Helen the bottom Carter
Starting point is 00:44:17 but she'd be perfect But yeah, that was kind of folks. Oh, maybe Tracy O'leman. I don't think they're old enough. Oh, okay. Because they're really old. It's not June Squib, but it's somebody like... Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:44:35 Yeah. So are they like Scandinavian or something? I think so. Like, I don't even know if they just speak with straight American accents. They think they have scary... Those accent. Foreign accents, yeah. I talk weird
Starting point is 00:44:49 But yeah, I just I really can't Like it's so funny I can't I don't remember I remember probably Thinking it wasn't one of his worst But I also I am at this point shocked
Starting point is 00:45:00 That it came in at number five And this is a real close game James What are you can you Can you come up with number six That would really put Keep you in it I bet I've got the other side of Alex's coin
Starting point is 00:45:14 The Village I would The village, I think, just does not recover in terms of, like, critical response. Yeah. With one of the worst twists of any of his twists in his movies. And so it manages to only squeak in at number 10. Oh, yeah, with, it got 45% on Rotten Tomatoes. but so that's still you're still uh in this thing i think
Starting point is 00:45:48 uh depends on what else uh amy and alex come up with what's your next best amy i really not gonna lie i don't think i know anymore what but take another second think about it i know i'm blank think about the greatest twist you ever saw in motion pictures and then think of the worst ones. Well, I don't even know if this is actually a movie. I love this. This is so exciting.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Because you're in the lead, so these guys have to catch up to you. So you really, you can go ahead and, you know. Be crazy. Yeah, go crazy. Unleashed. But I know there was like more unbreakableness. So I'm going to say unbreakable too. Like I know the story continued
Starting point is 00:46:46 That's fair But there's nothing called unbreakable too In fact you know Gotta give him kudos for never using numbers In any of his titles Even less breakable The sixth sense was written with those six He spelled it out
Starting point is 00:47:05 The seventh sense Yeah I don't know. I don't know anymore, Doug. No, that's, that's, you did great. You've got 17 points. Alex has 16, James has eight. So, you know, James is pretty much out of it.
Starting point is 00:47:28 Now that I branch the numbers. But Alex, if he gets, he will tie it up if he gets, one point or he'll win if he gets any of these nine through six through nine if you can name any of those you'll be our winner today I think okay um knock at the cabin knock at the cabin not what I did see because I just the promo materials maybe go uh-oh I don't need it. I love Dave Bautista, but I don't need him being a big cult leader or whatever it's going on there because I don't know. He's a horseman.
Starting point is 00:48:17 Oh, okay. The twist is it's exactly what you think it is. Oh, okay. He finally had to do that twist. But knocking the cabin is number six on the list. Oh! I forgot that was him. God bless you, Batista.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Yeah. knock at the Calvin. He got 67%. So I think that's fresh or close to fresh. What's the cut off for fresh? I think it's 68. I think it's good for M. Night Show.
Starting point is 00:48:49 No. Seriously. He's got six movies that got 67% of critics or more. So, yeah, God bless him. And it remains to be seen how his movie Remain turns out. but I'm looking forward to seeing it next February.
Starting point is 00:49:10 James, let's do one more guest from you just to see if you can put a few more points in your column. For old time's sake, yeah, then old, the beach that turns you old. Yeah, that's another one that I just could not. Couldn't bring myself. It's such a hammy good time. I really dipped on his movies and I feel bad, but I also feel like somebody's going to bring these movies to an interruption show
Starting point is 00:49:39 and I'll get to watch them and make jokes while they're quiet. It would be excellent for that. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, it's pretty fun and there's a lot of quiet parts. I think it's Aaron Pierre, who's on lanterns now, plays a rapper character named mid-sized sedan. No way. It's that kind of movie.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Wow. So number one. on the list. It felt like intentionally silly, though. Yeah, it can't be for sure. It leans into it. Yeah, which most of his movies seem to be taking themselves quite seriously throughout. Yeah, it feels like he was finally like, hey, I kind of suck.
Starting point is 00:50:22 I should just have some fun. Right. Well, we'll talk about the fun that was had in the remaining. you all banged out eight out of the ten movies but I'll tell you the two you missed and also just we'll also enjoy
Starting point is 00:50:43 where his other five movies landed Did both make the list? Oh I'm sorry I'm sorry I thought I said that yeah it's on there at number eight Hey hey yeah yeah yeah Yeah so you got three points for that So number seven and number nine
Starting point is 00:50:59 Are still missing But James is officially our winner today, which means he gets to get his plugs in early. But before that, he also gets to name a shithead. Who was the shithead in a fantastic festival? The audience member you were playing on behalf of, got to pick, right? No, you let me. Oh, I let you pick? I should let her.
Starting point is 00:51:25 But Ken Paxton was my pick. Oh, okay. And then who would you like for today? Ooh, uh, flock cameras. Oh, that is good. Flock cameras. Oh, shit. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:41 So, uh, what do you got to plug, James Pound? What's going on with you? Where can people come see you in Austin? I, uh, host and produce a PowerPoint-based comedy show where people come up and do like five-minute presentations of, uh, random things that they're knowledgeable about or want to rant about. like we've covered lots of random weird weird things and i have a show coming up at radio east where we saw guar on friday october ninth and then at the highball where we last hung out uh on the 17th october 17th saturday and then i do trivia at the highball every wednesday at 8 p.m
Starting point is 00:52:26 And where do people find you on those socials? Let's do Power Pints ATX. That's all of our show info is available there. Power Pints, ATX. I like it. All right, cool. Let's talk N. Night Chabalon movies for a moment, shall we? I'm going all the way to number 15 because I am fascinated at the yes.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Avatar's got to be at the bottom. Avatar's got to be done it. Or is that what Last Airbender? Yeah. What's it called? Last Airbender, Colan Avatar or something like that. Yeah. Number 15 out of all of his movies.
Starting point is 00:53:09 And 5% on Rotten Tomato. Whoa. That is grim. And then 14 was the Will Smith space movie after Earth, which never felt like a Shaman movie. And then 13 was the happening with Mark Wahlberg. Number 12 was a lady in the water. She had a great cast, but it didn't really, it didn't float, as they say.
Starting point is 00:53:43 25% on the rotten tomatoes there. And then you were on to it, Amy, the third in the saga that follows, you know, unbreakable and split and the third one in that series was called glass oh yeah and they fight right yeah because Samuel L. Jackson's character
Starting point is 00:54:08 and Unbreakable was named Glass and he's tragic villain then number 10 was the aforementioned village and they never died the night Shyamla he made a movie called
Starting point is 00:54:25 wide awake about I think it was about a boy in a Catholic school Oh yeah So weird And no twist really And uh And uh
Starting point is 00:54:35 And uh Rosie O'Donnell was in it I think As a nun Yeah wide awake from Uh, 1998 Like it That was his ticket
Starting point is 00:54:46 To make six Yeah And then old was number eight And then seven Is uh Of course Uh the more recent trap.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Oh, yeah. The concert movie that his daughter is the singer in the concert. Oh, yeah, I couldn't see that. So scary. There's lots of concert footage in that movie of his child.
Starting point is 00:55:14 All right, so congratulations for knowing as much as you did about Emini Chamelon movies. Alex Castain, aside from our killer can only assume after the editor are amazing. Would it be funny if you and I
Starting point is 00:55:31 hardly say anything? Because you know, Viren did have a lot to say to the other two comics. Right. Yeah, we watch and our faces are blurred. If they want a lot of interactions between Viren and the guests, then they'll use us
Starting point is 00:55:49 a little less. Although he gave both of us a hard time about things that might might end up in the show. Yeah. I talked about this last time Alex was on, Amy, but having Byron Allen turned to me and call me
Starting point is 00:56:06 a Caucasian like as a jab. Like what you're saying is so white when it's just, well, what else is what I say going to be? I love him. I love him so much. He fascinates me. Did you know he was the youngest paid regular
Starting point is 00:56:21 ever passed at the store? Oh, that's sounds right because he was like one of those 17 year old stand-ups yeah he was 17 and he got on to like an NBC show called real people pretty early on as a correspondent and then he's just been a this whole career he's just been a genius businessman like he's really done some some smart moves but that's like 60 or 80 we don't know but also I did you know I did probably at least 20 years ago whenever the first run of it was uh I did it and like I've been telling people that
Starting point is 00:56:57 like it's a different Byron now because he used to just be happy to just sit back and laugh and the one that we encountered like really wants to you know knock it back and forth like really wants to have interaction and so I wasn't really I wasn't totally ready for that I mean they warned me but I still was like just kind of surprised by it because I you know because at one point I said something to him there was probably
Starting point is 00:57:23 that he kind of looked at me like, that was over a line, you know. They probably won't include it. No, that's the thing. I'm just trying to know what ends up in there. But Alex Kestine, what else? I'm telling you it's mostly commercials, you guys don't believe. But they're like morning commercials. Yeah, the whole thing plays like, yeah, you got to wait through those long-ass commercials.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Like it's television, it's like, personal injury law. Yeah. Oh, that's good. Those are good. Doug, we should have. bought all the commercial time like Chris Hansen before prime time. All that's right. On this show should have just been us being like, we were wronged.
Starting point is 00:58:02 Byron owns that time. I know. Yeah, you'd end up having to pay him to have bad. I know. He's incredible. I woke up with his initials on my forearm in my veins. I was like, what's happening? No, people are like, all the ratings aren't as good for this as what was on previously.
Starting point is 00:58:20 And it's just like, well, nobody cares. He's just, he just, it's just, it's just an. infomercial that he pays for that he gets the star in and then he pays comedians to come in and be funny and you know i don't you know i don't think it's the worst format in the world like i you know if i was up at that hour for him yeah i mean next time we go on it's going to be us sitting on a dunk tank and he's just throwing baseballs out of target i'll do it yeah Hey, I hear you like to swim. Tell us about that before I throw this ball at the target.
Starting point is 00:59:00 I just want to do it again and like look at him and he just goes like, I heard you're a great kisser, Amy. And then we just fucking, we go crazy. What drives you crazy when you're not kissing me? Yeah. Your lips aren't on mine. none of us are ever getting on again okay so what else did you want to promote Alex you can just follow me on socials at Alex Castan C-A-S-T-A-G-N-E that's about it right on

Starting point is 01:00:12 at 7 o'clock bring a movie maybe we'll watch it preferably horror because it's October 6th, but I think in one previous year we ended up watching something it wasn't horror at all, but it ends up being frightening in its own way.
