Starting point is 00:00:00 With the $5 meal deal at McDonald's, you pick a McDouble or a McChicken, then get a small fry, a small drink, and a four-piece McNuggets. That's a lot of McDonald's for not a lot of money. Price and participation may vary for a limited time only. Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds With 50 as a pop or kernels in his teeth they're still not one that he won't see Hey hey everybody my name is Doug and I love movies this is Doug loves movies recording on Sunday afternoon November 17 2024 let's meet my guests today. They are autumn brewer Michael Felker and Jeff Tate. Hello
Starting point is 00:00:47 Hello, hello Let's meet them individually and alphabetically by first name It's her first time on this show. It's comedian autumn brewer. Hey, autumn. Hey Doug. How are you doing? I'm doing good Thanks for doing this Yeah, excited to be here It's comedian autumn brewer. Hey autumn. Hey, doug. How are you doing? I'm doing good Thanks for doing this Yeah, excited to be here
Starting point is 00:01:10 You know, I invited you on because you're funny, but uh, how are you at movie trivia? um Not the best Hopefully I make up for it by being funny. I Well, that's to you know, that's what we're looking for on this show is, uh, you know, humor first, but, uh, you know, uh, at the same time, we don't want people to just, you know, just give up and don't try, but I feel like we're going to get the best of both worlds from you.
Starting point is 00:01:42 I'm going to do the best that I can. That's all I can ask for. He's one of if not the best players this game has ever seen. It's Jeff Tate. Well hello everybody. Do you miss the chanting that usually comes after I introduce you at the live shows. I did I hear it in my head That's all you need, right? Yeah But great to have you back as a Returning returning ongoing champion and to my other guests. Let me just say Jeff he can lose Yes, you know, I mean he's not the kind of ringer that's gonna take it every single time Just about you know more like 95 percent of the time
Starting point is 00:02:35 Well, I am a little high so it all And also joining us is we have to return returning Also joining us is we have two recurring champions. He came on for the first time a few weeks ago to promote a film he directed, but he's back. Nonetheless, it's Michael Falker. Hey, Michael. Hey, Doug. It's the podcast that keeps on giving and I'm back. This is great. Thanks for having me Well, thanks for being back. And now that we're you know, it's been a few weeks since you're on what's the Current status of your movie things will be different. Where can they see it?
Starting point is 00:03:16 It is on VOD right now with it about to actually be on physical release in the UK tomorrow and the US in about a month or so. So Great to plug the movie again magically because of movie trivia Well, you know UK peeps get that Get a copy of it get a physical copy because I don't know if anybody else has noticed this but We're heading into a world where any movie can completely disappear unless you own it. Yeah I'm so so lucky to have that our movies like you could actually hold it in your hand and put it in any DVD player And be okay and because it's scary when it's just digitally
Starting point is 00:04:01 Yeah, it really is. It's and just also digitally. Yeah it really is. It's and just also with these you know different studios playing fast and loose with you know art and basically just deciding to unrelease or you know on the live a movie just for tax break. Oh god yeah. Thank God we don't have that because I you know knowing the movies that have been out and Knowing the movies that have been made and are so good, but can't see the light of day just breaks my heart so much Yeah, and we don't even know if they're good. You know, we all have it's subjective. We all have our opinions. I would like to You know see these things and decide for myself instead of just wondering what, you know, what could have been. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:50 It's, it's, it's a shame. So that's a, if you're going to learn any lessons from Douglas movies today, it's, uh, if you love a movie, get your hands on a physical copy and make sure you have the machinery to play it. Hell yeah. I have way more DVDs than I have DVD players, which is a lot for the first part and zero for the second. So I'm holding out for a machine that just, you know, you could put a DVD, Blu-ray, Laserdisc,
Starting point is 00:05:24 VHS, like it handles everything. Like one machine. Oh my God. We should totally figure that out. Because I think an all-in-one machine would be like something I would have right away. Absolutely. And just like how people embrace vinyl now, and they go out and get a turntable so they can listen to vinyl with albums. Like the same thing could be true of movies.
Starting point is 00:05:46 It's just people just being like, because now lately it just stays in the air. There's like this interest in like VHS and just popping it in the VCR and watching it. You know, like I think it's definitely. And, you know, seems to be something that's on the horizon I'm hoarding all of my VHS is just in case like I've never given away a physical piece of media and I'm gonna keep it that way Well, that's the thing. That's how I am about my CDs as well It's like why would you give them away the person you're giving them to would probably also be like what am I gonna play this on? You know, like it's really
Starting point is 00:06:23 we need Add CDs to that. But I do recall that, uh, uh, TVD players usually were able to play CDs as well. So that's not a, that's not a difficult crossover. Let's all be hoarders. Let's do it before we play some games today. I would like each one of my guests to recommend a motion picture could be from you know anytime in the history of movies from the past to the present but hopefully something that hasn't been banned to oblivion something
Starting point is 00:06:57 people can actually find somewhere we'll start with Jeff what do you want to recommend this time Jeff what am I gonna have to push back on? I don't think you're gonna push back on this. Okay. I watched it last night for the first time in a while and somehow I had forgotten that it's somehow Christmas related, but the movie go is incredible Interesting I forgot that it was Christmas related to is it like a Christmas rave or why what's the Christmas part? It's I think it's it's it's a Christmas. It's just Christmas time. I guess that time of year. So Christmas songs are playing like on the music on the in the grocery store. Yeah, Timothy all of them wears a Santa hat for a little bit Got a screen grab that for this holiday season because I I don't think people make enough out of that He's it Timothy Olyphant shirtless and in the Santa hat. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, they're sure they're sure
Starting point is 00:07:58 That's probably why I didn't realize it was a Christmas movie because he puts that Santa hat on without a shirt And how am I gonna notice the hat? Come on, let's be reasonable. Let's be super honest about that. He really was in great shape and so villainous and like on my radar from that point forward, when I saw go, I was like, who the fuck is this guy? Because just the scene where he's sitting there shirtless with the Santa hat and he's Cuz just the scene where he's sitting there shirtless with the Santa hat and he's saying to Katie Holmes as Claire he's like acting like Bender from
Starting point is 00:08:36 Breakfast Club and go it's quoting it to her. She has no idea what he's doing. Oh, yeah. Yeah First either I found out what she did Yeah, yeah, I got it but I was you know, I have a big breakfast club head, I mean I Practically have that movie memorized but go Is another one I love and you know My boy doug lineman i've never met him, but I call him my boy because we share first name and He did follow me on social media, but without you know, he won't respond to my messages. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:07 I don't know what that's about. But but Doug Lyman is he's a great director. Right, Michael? Yeah. I mean, I haven't seen Go since like, great, like high school, college. But I love that movie. And every time Lyman has a new movie, I'm just like, I'm really like, oh, man, what is he doing now?
Starting point is 00:09:24 Because he can kind of just do most genres. He's a fascinating filmmaker. Yeah. And he, you know, and he rarely has a, a misfire jumpers, but you know, most of them are really, really incredible. What would you like to recommend today, Michael? I was, I rewatched this for the first time in a while because my wife hadn't seen it. But I'm recommending Top Secret,
Starting point is 00:09:49 the Val Kilmer comedy, the Zuckerman Brothers movie from the I saw you post about it. You were like, I just had to double check. And it turns out Top Secret holds up, dude. It is so freaking good. Like the amount of like attention to
Starting point is 00:10:02 detail towards like prop humor and like even just jokes in the background is like incredible in that movie and it still holds up so so so well. It's I could not stop laughing. You know like that was like that's why Val Kilmer is such a great actor is because he was so good in that that you thought he was going to just be a comedic actor, but he ended up being, you know, able to do anything. He's such a good physical actor too, just because like a lot of the humor in Top Secret is so physical and you just have to like be able to like bounce off the walls in the right kind of way.
Starting point is 00:10:39 And like his dance sequences or like the sequence where it's in the bookstore where it all plays in reverse is just so incredibly funny but also very specific. Val Kilmer is one of our greats. Did you see Val the documentary about him? I haven't no it's been on my list but I'm also kind of like afraid to watch it because it seems like incredibly like sad. So, um, it does have it's sad aspects, but it is just, it's an incredible movie because Val Kilmer, in addition to being a great actor, would show up on the sets of these movies like Top Gun, just, you know, iconic movies. He would show up on the set and then when he wasn't working, he'd stand around filming everything with a, you know, whatever they called those handy cam or whatever they called it back then.
Starting point is 00:11:31 He just was really into shooting stuff. So like there's lots of great stuff in there, just people goofing around in the sets of these movies. But there's also on the set of Island of dr. Moreau John Schlesinger you know arguably a great director but definitely like a guy that likes to shout orders and everybody was is very unhappy with Val doing behind the scenes footage so there's footage in the Val documentary of John Schlesinger yelling I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it.
Starting point is 00:12:10 I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to see it. I'm not you if you would need a Val Kilmer fix, I mean, there's so many movies and Top Secret,
Starting point is 00:12:27 it should be the first one on your list. Yeah, he's he's great. And, you know, that's the other thing I loved about him in Island and Dr. Moreau is when he does Marlon Brando impression to Marlon Brando's face. And the story rumor has it, Brando didn't appreciate it, but it still managed to get in the movie. All right, we got two good ones so far. Autumn, would you like to recommend a movie? You know what, Doug?
Starting point is 00:12:56 I have been thinking about this since you asked me to be on the show and I really wanted to come up with something where you guys were like, wow, Autumn's so cool. I can't believe she recommended that movie. But as the holidays are coming up and it's getting darker, I tend to watch a lot of Christmas movies around this time. And I don't tend to love like newer Christmas movies, but there's one that came out I think in the last like five or so years called Klaus, that I do really like. And I like to tell people to watch it.
Starting point is 00:13:30 It's a Netflix movie, so we can't get a hard copy of it, but I don't know if anybody's seen it, but it's a newer Christmas movie that actually I think has a decent story and has some Christmas spirit. Well, Netflix has really gotten into the, you know, Christmas movie game in a huge way, like really challenging Hallmark. And I remember when Claus was on Claus was on and I watched it.
Starting point is 00:13:57 And I think that year also, it felt like sixth place in the five nominees for best animated film like I feel like it was that liked and respected but then didn't quite make the nomination yeah um but yeah I you know everybody I've talked to about that movie loves it yeah it's a good movie and I feel like a lot of especially like a new Christmas cartoon movie A lot of them can I feel like fall short because they're running out of stories to tell with Christmas I liked it. I thought it was a good one. I recently had to watch for
Starting point is 00:14:39 Podcasting purposes my friends the Bennington's do a thing every year, this time of year, where they call it Netflixmas and they just run down. They just, them and their guests, they watch a Netflix Christmas movie and then they, you know, do a whole episode of their show where for an hour they just discuss it, you know, and they tell people what movie to watch ahead of time and so it's funny because uh, the one I just watched is called a night before christmas night
Starting point is 00:15:16 kni ght It's about this night that you know travels through time doesn't matter like how he time travels Is of no concern to anybody involved in making the movie They're just sort of like yeah, and then uh, this old witch lady just sends him to the future So he lands in the future and he meets vanessa hudgens and then it's this whole You know he has to learn everything because he's a knight from the 15th century and um, You know the whole movie is just sort of like well he sort of needs
Starting point is 00:15:50 to go back to where he came from but maybe he could stay here and make a go of it and you know you don't know which way it's going to go and then that was from five years ago i was just watching a promo for the new uh a new Netflix Christmas movie called Hot Frosty and it's Lacey Chabert. Lacey Chabert meets a snowman who's been brought to life as a person but then the movie is, you know, the dilemma is by the end of the movie is he going to melt or is he going to stay human? That's isn't that Jack Frost? No, no that's a whole different that's that Michael Keat movie from right years back. I don't even think this is a remake of that. I think they think they have a
Starting point is 00:16:38 new idea here and uh but also hot frosty. How can you not watch a movie? It's about a snowman that's hot. But he's so hot, he's going to melt to death. Well, those are all great Christmas or otherwise recommendations. I think Ghost, I mean Go, not Ghost, Go or Top Secret is a fun watch around the holidays. So with Klaus added in there, you have your Christmas day double bill, triple bill.

A few short years later they served millions of meals to cats across the US. Smalls sent a big old box to DLM headquarters which we promptly passed along to one of our favorite neighborhood cat buddies. Little sissy loved every last morsel and asked us to pass along our thanks to the folks over at Smalls. At this point you might be wondering,
Starting point is 00:20:31 cats can't talk. No, actually, why can't I just feed my cat Kimble? Starting point is 00:21:18 That's the best offer you'll find, but you have to use my code DLM for 50% off your first order. One last time. That's promo code D L M for 50% off your first order plus free shipping at smalls.com slash D L M back to the show. We're back. I hope you enjoyed hearing about those products and services our first game we're gonna play today is Something that I wish I wrote down there their Instagram name or X or wherever was they reached out to me?
Starting point is 00:21:57 But somebody suggested a game and I loved the idea This game is called how many weigh-ins in it? Okay, I mean the title describes the game I'll name a movie you tell me how many is a multi-talented Wayans family members are in it. I Don't care how big or small their role is. I just need a number of how many of them Show up for whatever reason We'll start with autumn if I'll tell you the movie you tell me how many Wayans are in it if you get it wrong We'll go to Jeff
Starting point is 00:22:37 He'll guess if he gets it wrong go to Michael. He'll guess if he gets it wrong. We go back to autumn We go around until somebody that's it, right somebody's gonna get a point every round will play a few rounds and come up with a winner real quick autumn, are you a Have you seen a lot of movies with Wayans family members in it I feel feel like yes I have. I think we all have. Yeah I feel like it's hard to not. But realizing how many there are in general I think will be the interesting challenge. So that's almost a game unto itself is like name how many way ins there are I think you'd be shocked at the total number
Starting point is 00:23:27 But we'll start with autumn like I said Please tell me how many ways you think are in the motion picture from 2009 called dance flick. Oh I'm gonna go with three Three is incorrect Oh, um, I'm going to go with three. Three is incorrect. There's more or less way ends in dance. Jeff, what's your guess?
Starting point is 00:23:58 My guess is a two. I'm going to say to Sean and Marlon. Oh, okay. Well, you know, that's, I guess that's a safe bet. In some cases. In this particular case you are wrong. Oh no! Michael how many weights? I'm trying to even just remember how many weights there are to play with but I'll go with one to be safe. I'll tell you right now that is the opposite of safe because it's wrong. Back to you, Adam.
Starting point is 00:24:29 How many weigh ins? It's not me, too, or what? I'm going to say five. Also incorrect. Jeff, what do you think? Uh, I'm going to take a shot here and say that there's no wayans in this movie. What kind of weird game would that be? Are you familiar with dance flick?
Starting point is 00:24:54 No not not not at all. But I don't know how many ways are and I feel like five is enough. It's a scary movie as a parody of dance movies with dance like dirty dancing and and others You know when I guess they sort of did it when You know the scary movie franchise was sort of Swiped away from them by the aforementioned Zucker brothers Swiped away from them by the aforementioned Zucker brothers
Starting point is 00:25:33 All right, Michael, what's your next guess well, I guess I'll say the number that hasn't been said in this collection for That's incorrect So we got zero through five Yeah, I was gonna say how many are there? Um, uh, I'm I'm gonna eight Incorrect, Jeff I'm gonna say six Incorrect, Michael
Starting point is 00:25:54 Seven Incorrect, oh Um, uh, ten That is the number There are ten ways In a dance flick. They got Marlon, they got Sean, they got Damon Jr., Kim, Greg, Ian and Irie, Shantae, Michael, Caramilla, and Greg.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Oh, Greg. Oh, I forgot about Greg. What was the problem? When you said zero, you had forgotten about Greg. What was the problem? When you said zero, you had forgotten about Greg. Yeah, Greg. Autumn is on the board at one point. We go to Jeff for the next round and it starts with a motion picture from 2006 called Little Man. Okay, I'm going to say four.
Starting point is 00:26:47 That is wrong. Damn. Of you to say because it's incorrect. Michael. Now my brain's broken because I didn't know there was 10. It really opens the field. Doesn't it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:03 I mean, I thought there was I'm going to go with two because I thought there was like maybe two or three I thought there was I'm gonna go with two because I thought there was like maybe two or three to begin with so I'll go with two there could be even more than ten as far as I know you know as far as we know at this point but two is also incorrect we're back to autumn I'm gonna say seven? No. Jeff? Five. No. Michael? Three. You got it. There's three ways. There's the little man himself played by Marlon. And then there's his brother, Sean. And then Damien Dante makes a brief appearance. So Damien Dante went on to direct. I think he's the only one that's not in Dance Look, because I think he directed it. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:27:54 I'm not mistaken. Yeah. So I just blew it. I just let you know that there's 11 WANs at least. But we're back to autumn for the next one. It's from 1988. It's called I'm Gonna Get You Sucka. I'm gonna say four. Four is an excellent guess but it's not right. Jeff you have a chance to make a three way tie here. If you can tell me how many way ends are in, I'm going to get you sucker. All right.
Starting point is 00:28:30 That was the first one. So I'm going to say, uh, seven. No. All right. Damn it. Don't took a second to count. Yeah. Michael. Five. No.
Starting point is 00:28:55 All of them. What if what if we said we said that's a great question? I wish I was keeping track. Three. Did anybody say three? Did someone say I said three for the last movie, so I said five for this. OK, what do you say, Jeff? I said seven. OK, so we got seven, five, three.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Those are all wrong. Jeff, back to you. Six. That's it. Yay! Dean and Ivory, Damon Sr., Kim, Nadia, Marla? Is it Marla? And Sean. So yeah, now I'm thinking there's like 13 at least after that
Starting point is 00:29:48 reveal. So maybe 14, 13. Yeah. All right. It's quite a few, but now we are back to Michael and this is the pivotal one. If you get this one right, Michael, you win this game. If you miss autumn as a chance to claim victory and if she misses Jeff has a chance and so on from 1995 Perhaps my favorite movie that lands are involved in major pain Mmm, I want to go with four that's not it I need you to retract that answer
Starting point is 00:30:33 autumn what are you I'm gonna I'm gonna say five also wrong Jeff I'm gonna say one No To I should just have a game say numbers until you hit the one that I picked Because you know none of us are to keep track of the way ends, but Major Pain was Damon Seniors finest screen performance if you ask me. And apparently Damien Dante makes an appearance as a as, as a child that gets yelled at by major pain, you know, cause those scenes where you have an adult yelling at a child, you should have to get a relative of that adult so that the kid is permanently traumatized. Right.
Starting point is 00:31:39 It seems more normal. Yeah. I would love, love, love to see you play this game with a weigh-in. I don't know. That'd be, that'd be tough. It'd be tough to get it exactly right. They'd have to really count it out in their head, especially dance flick having a 10 different weigh-ins involved. That's pretty, uh. That's pretty impressive. And if there had been a tie in the game today, I was going to go with White Chicks from 2004, at which I think a couple of you at some point or another have guessed two, because that is truly
Starting point is 00:32:19 a two weigh-ins situation with just Sean and Marlon. I believe the only one. I think it's the only movie that any of them have been involved in where only two of them were in the movie. So congratulations Michael, you won but you didn't win much because the winner of the first game just gets to go first in the second game. But that could end up being a a tremendous help or, you know, or actually play against you. I mean, I learned something today and that there's way more percent of thought in film.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Yeah, it's really, it's really impressive how many but also, you know, most of them, I feel like they just, you know, had their one shot in dance flick, and maybe, you know, one or two other places, but they're not the dynasty they used to be. And I, you know, interesting to see what happens next, because I saw Marlon doing a lot of interviews about how upset he is that the scary movie franchise kind of got taken away from them. So I think something's brewing. I think he's going to try to, try to do something, maybe, maybe even scary movie. What are they up to? Five or six?
Starting point is 00:33:44 I think so. Yeah. I mean, I would just be excited to see him back at all as someone who, you know, grew up with major pain, white chicks, little man. So yeah, I think that would be awesome. Well, also Marlin's just kind of awesome in general these days because he has a trans daughter, I think that he, uh, supports vigorously. Cool. So that's always nice, but I'm sorry if I screwed up the, uh, the gender, uh, we're going to take another break.
Starting point is 00:34:14 And when we come back, it's the maker break game. It's the game that's going to determine our winner today. The, the one that's going to decide if we're going to hear about Michael Felker's movie again. You know, having back in a few weeks when it comes to the movie that won't go away. Yeah. Well, that's hopefully. Yeah. That's the idea is for movies to just be around from the point there finished being made to the end of time every movie should continue to exist. We'll be right back Today's episode is brought to you in part by Shopify When you think about businesses that are selling through the roof like Koto Paxi or Momo Fuku
Starting point is 00:35:00 Sure, you think about a weird name and a great product, a cool brand and brilliant marketing, but an often overlooked secret is actually the businesses behind the business making, selling, and for shoppers buying, simple. For millions of businesses, that business is Shopify. Nobody does selling better than Shopify, home of the number one checkout on the planet. And the not so secret secret? With shop pay that boosts conversions up to 50%, meaning way less carts going abandoned and way more sales going.
Starting point is 00:35:36 So if you're into growing your business, your commerce platform better be ready to sell wherever your customers are scrolling or strolling, on web in your store in their feed and everywhere in between It's no secret businesses that want to grow grow with Shopify Upgrade your business and get the same checkout that Momo Fuku and Kono Paxi use Sign up for your $1 per month trial period at Shopify.com DLM all lower trial period at Shopify.com slash DLM. All lowercase. Go to Shopify.com slash DLM to upgrade your selling today.
Starting point is 00:36:13 That's Shopify.com slash DLM. Back to the show. We are back and the game That we are playing to finish off the show today and determine our winner Is something that I called little search engine that could Um today I woke up Had a quick sim william Maybe a little breakfast and then I typed a word into the search engine on IMDB.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Then I proceeded to write down the top 10 movies with that word in the title. The three of you, once I tell you the word, are going to take turns naming movies with that word in the title, whether it be a title you're fully aware of or one that you just make up in hopes that a movie is called that. The higher up on the list your movie appears, the more points you get. Ten points for number one, one point for number ten, and then there's all those points in between the more points you get after three rounds determines who our winner is most points wins three guesses each Michael's gonna go first and we'll flip the order around. We'll go to Jeff and then Autumn. And I did something special that may seem like favoritism towards Michael, but we'll find out.
Starting point is 00:37:59 We'll find out soon enough. The word I decided to go with today is things. And I need to be clear because sometimes there's trickiness with this game. It is just the word things, not the word like John Carpenter's The Thing won't be in here. And yeah, any movie where it's just thing and not things will not be on the list. So keep that in mind. We're just looking for titles that have the word things in them. And I don't know, Michael, if you in the titling process of your film did much research into that particular word and its usage so you might have an advantage yeah I don't know I mean I I'm not on IMDB searching as much as I probably should so could be just a stab at random words that I think might be
Starting point is 00:39:04 having the word things in the title and I could totally misremember completely. Did you have uh were there was things will be different was that your first choice you know was that the first choice for the title? Yeah yeah I'm like you I was just I thought it was just such a cool title and I know it could be like an algorithm nightmare by having something like thing in the title, but It stuck with me. So I Hopefully retained some other titles that had the word things plural in it
Starting point is 00:39:36 So but I honestly I just I don't know if I need a safety shoot. I will pull my own movie Well as always the titles are since it is like the top ten movies being searched with things in the title on IMDB today you know it's a mix of older and okay and very new and and it's always always a little perplexing. So let's start off with you Michael. What's your first guess? I think it actually is a movie that I remember that came out last year that I really enjoyed poor things poor things the your ghost laugh the most.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Yeah, Emma Stone who apparently the two of them are just gonna make every movie together Yeah, they really they really hit it off She's like I like to be weird he goes. Well, that is what I want you to be my news Every movie I make from now on do some really weird shit That movie is number one on the list With ten points that is really Not insurmountable by by any stretch let's go to Jeff what comes to your mind Jeff when you think of a Movie that might be popular on IMDB with the word things in the title?
Starting point is 00:41:10 Wild Things. I was just going to call it the Bill Murray movie, but he's like probably fifth or sixth build in that one. He's one of his rare sporting roles, but, um, uh, Neve Campbell, right? Yeah. Yeah. Uh, what's her name? Or Richards. Yeah. Dr.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Dr. Christmas. What was your name? Uh, uh, Matt Dillon, those, those, they were the three way. And then, uh, but then we also got a glimpse into Kevin Bacon's bacon Oh my god, I've never seen it I didn't know this Dude, you should watch it. It's an interesting movie. Have you seen it Michael? Yeah, it's a it's wild It's wild and it's got things in it
Starting point is 00:42:08 Exactly, it sells you a bill of goods and you won't be disappointed. Yeah. No, it's really it's really something that movie You know and Isn't that guy isn't that guy directed it? I want to say Naughton Michael, maybe Michael Naughton and I think he also did he did some other interesting movies. Like I think he did This is just guessing. I think he did Henry portrait of a serial killer. Oh wow and also another movie with Bill Murray that I think is underrated with Bill and Uma Thurman and and Robert De Niro called mad dog and glory. Oh
Starting point is 00:42:47 Yeah, yeah Yeah, there was a director for a little while there. I don't know what happened. Sometimes they move into Episodic like they do a lot of like there's a lot of these streaming shows have like the best movie directors that are now You know directing series but All that being said wild things is number two on the list Yeah, it's really that movies also like kind of swampy I think I think it's set like in like Florida kind of swamp region. I think you even see a crocodile at one point. Oh yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Kevin Bacon's croc. I can reminisce about these movies, reminisce about these movies with things in the title all day, but it's autumn's turn. I feel like I'm in the worst spot. This seems very unfair. I just want to put it out there. Yes, it would have helped you out a lot to win that first game, but also any two right answers can still beat the number of
Starting point is 00:44:05 points that Jeff and Michael have. So you have three, three guesses. So what's what pops into your head when you hear movie with the word things in the title? I'm going to go with 10 things I hate about you. I had a feeling that that might happen and it is number five on the list. You just got six more points. I'll take it. I'll take it. Yeah. Yeah. You're in, you know, you're in fighting position at this point. And 10 things about you, I'd say is that not only one of my favorite movies about teenagers played by adults, but also it is one of my favorite Shakespeare adaptations. Yeah. Oh, it's that movie really holds up. Larry Miller. I love that movie. Larry Miller is the dad is very, very entertaining. But yeah, of course we get Heath Ledger and what's her name? So yeah, six points for Adam.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Adam. Michael, we're back to you. Oh now I'm trying to just remember movies with the title Yes, so for some tricky yeah because you don't think of a movie that has things in the title very often so Is there a movie just called little things I can't tell you whether or not there's a movie called that but you could Guess it just make that officially your guess. Let's just make it official little things All right now There goes my lead
Starting point is 00:46:00 Jeff, you know, do you know if there's a movie called little things? Um, I know there's a movie called Little Things? I know there's a movie that's almost called that. That's what I might be wrestling with. Yeah, that's the question is, do I really hold them to an exact title here? I think I have to, even though it feels unfair. No, no. If I can't, if I'm just pulling a title out of nowhere, cause I can't quite remember, hold me to the title. Okay. Then in that case, you are wrong.
Starting point is 00:46:29 Ah, I just, yeah, it's up next. So I have a feeling he's going to swoop in. Yeah, this is, this is going to hurt, man. It doesn't even feel great for me, right? I'm going to say, uh, the little things. Oh yeah. It's called The Little Things. It was with Denzel Washington and Rami Malek. Oh my God. I totally saw that movie and forgot.
Starting point is 00:46:57 I mean, that title does not really, I guess it fits, but it's just, uh, yeah, it's hard to, uh, hard to remember that, that title because it doesn't really, uh, seem to be, you know, what were Jeff, what were the little things in that movie? I guess, right? Like that could be, it's the most generic.
Starting point is 00:47:24 So like, it could just be called clues like It's just a Solving. Yeah the little blues clues Okay, so That's big for Jeff. That's another eight points. That's great. Oh my god Yeah, it's number three on the list So it's not over but it's not looking great things will be different is on TV
Starting point is 00:48:01 Wait wait, so what it's on I'm like, wait, wait, so what it's on In the you for a UK listeners they can get it now they'll get it tomorrow Yeah, and it'll be physical in the states. I think either in December or January. All right. All right. Well Mark your calendars everybody But it's still it's on VOD right now though, right? Yeah, you can watch it digitally right now anytime. Oh Hell yeah, I'm gonna Big fan of movies with things in the title. Well, yeah if I gotta warn you they're different They will be different
Starting point is 00:48:43 Well, thanks for the what you know, I don't care for that. The movie lives up to the title. All right, what do you think? What's you got any others that you've come up with? Yeah, I think so. I don't have no idea if we'll be top 10. And I kind of stole from Jeff, but the, where the wild things are. Yeah, that's, uh, it's a, it's like of the book.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Yeah. From the book. Yeah. Kids book. Where are the wild things? Rory Sendak. Yeah. I have, I don't. Yeah. Isn't it, it's like half cartoon, half live action. I think it's live action, but the wild things are all big puppets You know look like sweetums from Sesame Street or Muppets rather. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and it's very It's just like it's like a you know, very art house very like Beautiful cinematography just feels like like a, you know, very art house, very like beautiful cinematography.
Starting point is 00:49:46 It just feels like a dream, you know? Yeah. Uh, so I'm sure people have mixed feelings about it because some people want, it's probably one of something that looks as, you know, as fun as they look in the book. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, but that's number 10 on the list. So,
Starting point is 00:50:03 Okay. Uh, I'll take the point. It's not an embarrassing performance on your part because Some of this Michael Felker business like you didn't say, you know the wild things You said where the wild things are I got all the words you got them all but it's important No, Michael's been strapped to the kicking himself machine, what would be your next and final guess? I did just get a movie title just because I forgot about the book about this.
Starting point is 00:50:38 But I guess there's a movie version of Things We Lost in the Fire. Who's in that? Is that Halle Berry? Uh, thanks. Let me know. Let me double check. Yeah. And, uh, Benicio, that's it.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Yeah. Oh, Benicio del Toro. Yeah. Yeah. Um, definitely screams number four on this list, right? You really needed it. That would have given you a tie with Jeff, but unfortunately, it's not even in the top 10.
Starting point is 00:51:13 I mean, it should be because, you know, I mean, a lot of these things are, you know, inconsequential. But when you lose something in a fire, that that's, you know, pretty tragic. Yeah. Yeah. What did they something in a fire, that that's, you know, pretty tragic. Yeah. Yeah. What did they lose in the fire? No spoilers, man. You got to watch. Yeah, I guess they love for each other. The movie is just her listing things to an insurance agent. It's not great.
Starting point is 00:51:45 That's why it's not the top 10. They're just going through old pictures and pointed stuff. This was worth 80 bucks. You see this? We lost it in the fire. Describing things. It was yay. Hi. All right. I
Starting point is 00:52:12 Call but ten points this game is very respectable. Yeah. Yeah, no complaining here Yeah, you know, you're welcome back anytime you want to come back is your next I think I asked you this last time But is your next? project On the horizon, are you still we're getting there? There's a there's a couple of things that With and I will have things in the title so we can get this list shaken up But we got we're working I got some things on the fire and hopefully more to announce in the new year coming Yeah, don't lose those things in the fire Yeah, yeah, otherwise will be in the movie sequel
Starting point is 00:52:44 Things we lost in the movie sequel. Things we lost in the fire too. Things we found things. Things we found in the fire would actually be pretty good. Look, you lost it, but now it's found. All right, Jeff, what do you, what's your final guess just to see if you could put a few more points on this this runaway okay this is a long shot but I'm gonna say needful things that's not a
Starting point is 00:53:12 bad guess based on a Stephen King novella and starring Jennifer Jason Lee Yeah, and Ed Harris and Ed Harris Who's the other lady of that? Max von Sydow. Oh, right I think there is I think Dolores was cuz was Jennifer Jason Lee wasn't Dolores Claiborne She was a title character, I don't think that was kathy kathy Bates was delores clayborn, but I think jennifer jason lee was in that. Yeah. Yeah. Okay Uh, sorry, but uh, nobody wants that movie to be in the top 10 Damn it
Starting point is 00:54:00 But yeah, you know, it could have uh, it could have been in there I mean once you hear this list you're gonna be like, oh, yeah There's definitely some things missing Let's get one more guess from autumn just for just for giggles I Don't know if my guess is a movie, but it is a title My favorite things oh The song from it's a it's a song but I feel like that would be something someone could make a movie out of right especially since like after sound and music
Starting point is 00:54:42 Oprah Winfrey ran with uh that expression you know and she used to do an episode of my favorite things and she'd sit down a bunch of her rich friends and give them you know each one each of all of her favorite things which are like you know diamond necklaces and stuff uh yeah it sounds like a movie that someone yeah so we should definitely make a movie about that But it hasn't happened to my knowledge and if it did it did not crack the top ten Wow Jeff Tate has done it again. He is officially our winner today
Starting point is 00:55:22 Congratulations, Jeff. Oh, thank you very much. What would you like to plug? I have my podcast, the Saturday Afternoon Movie Club. It's on all the streamers, and we talk about those random movies that were on TV on Saturday afternoon, just between the cartoons and the nighttime stuff. What's the most recent episode about? The one that just went up was about clue and next week's is a movie called best seller.
Starting point is 00:55:52 Yes. Who's in that? Brian Dennehy and James Woods. Whoa. That is wild. It's not bad. It's but it's super random. I do vaguely remember that. But. That is wild. It's not bad. It's but it's super
Starting point is 00:56:12 I do vaguely remember that but uh, yeah, that's interesting but clue of course Everybody remembers that because he not only didn't have an amazing cast but also, you know thus far it's been the only You know movie based around a board game. Everybody knows Yeah, the you know, that's good. Yeah, who likes who likes battleship? Do you like you've seen the a B and C you've seen all three endings of clue. Yes It's do you have a favorite of the three? To be honest, no matter how many times I've seen it, I they just kind of run together. I like the very end so I would imagine I guess the third ending is the one I like because it has the the funny stuff with
Starting point is 00:56:52 Michael McKeon doing that. It was me in the lobby or whatever with the revolver lobby. That's not the right word, but But like isn't there one where like mr body the the body is actually the killer No Like, isn't there one where like Mr. Body, the body is actually the killer? No. Oh, OK. I thought there was one like that. Tim Curry is the killer in one, right? Yeah, the last ending, I think. Yeah, they're like, oh, wait, Mr. Body is actually not the is Tim Curry.
Starting point is 00:57:18 And the other body that was in the whole movie was just a butler. Was like the butler. Yeah. Yeah. Switching Rooney. And then it ends with, oh, yeah, sorry, spoiler. It's to clue for the entire. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, the movie has three different endings. So like swelling, the ending seems like such a random event.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Like, yeah, it's the journey, not the ending, really, in the case of that movie, because I mean, that's how crazy it is that the whole movie Can lead up to a finishing five minutes. That's three different potential endings So everything in the movie has to align with that so that the three different endings make sense That's quite a puzzle they had to come up All right. So before we do the plugs for my other guests, what everybody's dying to know is what the hell kinds of movies with the words things did we miss?
Starting point is 00:58:17 Which ones did nobody mention and some of them it's very obvious reasons why they didn't come up. Number nine is a movie called all things fair from 1995 Swedish and Academy Award nominee for best foreign film Now yeah, why would anybody say that? Number eight
Starting point is 00:58:56 Was a movie I know very little about from 2005 it feels like a sequel, but I don't think it is but it's called wild things colon diamonds in the rough Whoa? Diamonds in the rough Whoa? It's kind of an exploitation movie that doesn't have anything to do with the first wild things or maybe it does maybe it has like a three-way Another movie nobody really none of us has a reason to remember called the taste of things and
Starting point is 00:59:24 Start Juliet Binoche I've heard of it, but I never I would never saw it. Yeah me too Is a movie called things heard and seen and that was and that was Free Again I don't have much knowledge of that one I mean this when I typed in the word things I was like well the top three and number five are certainly Gonna come up. They're very famous or sort of famous movies with the word things in the title, but
Starting point is 01:00:04 famous or sort of famous movies with the word things in the title. But what I respect most about Autumn, Jeff and Michael, especially Michael, is that none of you just went ahead and said things will be different. Oh, what is number four on? Oh, my God. Oh, no. It was right there for everybody. I don't know if you did say it on purpose out of respect. I mean, I didn't even think we would be in the top 10, but that's cool.
Starting point is 01:00:34 You were even like, oh, that'll be my fallback. And then you're at the end, you're like guessing, like not even, you know, just so I hope this is one, even though your movie was a very, very legitimate guess, it would have been worth seven points. What? That's so cool. I feel like that's even better than winning the thing. Yeah, just every few months you can just type the word things into IMDB and see where your movie lands.
Starting point is 01:01:00 Well, I'm still glad Jeff won. That was true victory right there with a Little the little thing. Excuse me. I'm even omitting the still All right, Michael Felker one more time things will be different on VOD now and You know different on VOD now. And, you know, in the if you're in the UK tomorrow is today because we, you know, this episode will come out late tonight. So you can get a physical copy if you want it.
Starting point is 01:01:37 And you asked. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. You can watch this movie in many different ways, but on digital or UK physical or US physical in a month or so. But you can preorder it now, I guess, on Amazon if you want to. Oh, cool. Well, thanks for being here with us again. Adam Brewer.
