Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers, screaming baby, sticky seeds with 50 acid pop or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see, cause Doug loves movies! Hey, hey, hey everybody! My name is Doug and I love movies! This is Doug Loves Movies, coming to you this time on a saturday it's april 23rd 2022 and my guests are three of my favorites billy wayne davis martha kelly and sam the ma'am levine hello all of y'all let's meet them individually and alpha doggedly it's the star of borat subsequent movie film billy wayne davis what's up dude nothing i'm in austin you are yes that's where we were did you think the show was there because that's when we did it the last time. We did it in Austin.
Starting point is 00:01:08 I did, but I'm okay with my mistake. It's lovely. You're there for Moon Tower again? Yes. I think Moon Tower is year-round now, right? They just do it all the time? I didn't ask any questions. Because of pandemic scheduling, I guess they had one in September,
Starting point is 00:01:28 but normally it is in April. So now they're back at their normal time. Are you having fun? Yes. Yeah. It's just, yeah, everything's, they do it so well and then Austin's just wonderful. Well, thank you for taking time out from all the wonderfulness to uh to sit and assume in your hotel room and talk to us for an hour it's a pleasure so thank you very much um also joining us today from the home box office smash hit television program euphoria it's martha kelly hi doug hi martha hi you're not you're not in austin correct correct i'm in uh burbank i just moved to burbank
Starting point is 00:02:16 how's it in burbank i love it um i live uh in a giant apartment complex and I really love it. It sounds great. It sounds really, it sounds big and and it's in Burbank. So it's like, it's kind of like not being in Los Angeles, but then, you know, everything's close enough by right yeah it's it looks like the foothills are really close which definitely makes it feel like you're out of la which is kind of nice yeah i think it's uh it's not a bad spot heats up in the summertime though i'll warn you about that yes well luckily um I have air conditioning.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I remember Johnny Carson used to like almost nightly make fun of downtown Burbank, like it's the most boring place on the planet. And it's perfectly fine. I don't even really know where it is uh it looks it i know there's like stuff like flappers and ikea are they considered downtown burbank uh yeah basically they're near the uh they're in the downtown area um but you know it's it's pretty spread out. It's, you know, be careful out there because I understand there's a lot of street racing going on. So look both ways. And also joining us today is our returning champ star of Max on HBO Mix.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Like that reverse. It's Lil Wolverine, Sam Levine. Hey, Sam. Hi, Doug. Hi, Martha. Hi, Billy. Hi. Thank you so much for having me back. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it. I was just doing some illegal street racing in Burbank.
Starting point is 00:04:21 But I got I made it home just in time. You really should look into some legal street racing. That's all the rage. It's not as fun. If there's no thrill in it for me, it's just called normal traffic. Everybody seems to be kind of racing. Um, well, what an assemblage of individuals I have gathered separately. We're all in our different spots.
Starting point is 00:04:50 I'm not going to blow up where Sam lives. You might as well say it's East LA. But before we play some games today, I would like to take a moment to get serious with everybody and ask each of you to recommend one movie that you think people would enjoy watching. They would say, thank you for that recommendation. I wasn't aware of that one. Billy Wayne, do you want to start us off? Sure. What do you got? I was just going to say Bull Durham, but people are
Starting point is 00:05:39 very aware of that, but they forgot. I just think people forgot about it and need to rewatch that. Maybe it's, it's so good. I think that's an excellent choice. I think, uh, you know, people going back and rewatching something like last week, uh, Sam suggested the movie big and, uh, you know, these movies that, uh, are, you know, thought of as classics, but also kind of forgotten. A lot of them really, really do hold up. I haven't seen Bull Durham in a minute, but it seems like, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:12 his other work seemed to, you know, go the other way, but it seemed like the first kind of feminist, I stress the word, kind of a feminist baseball movie. Is that accurate? I mean, kind of of feminist baseball movie. Is that accurate? I mean, kind of is a great word where she is. She's an odd protagonist. Yeah, because she likes sleeping with baseball players. You've already got a character that's like, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:40 already kind of being judged by the film itself for her behavior. But she really knows her baseball which is uh you know rare for a leading female protagonist because she well it's like a romantic comedy and i realized as i got older i was like oh that's also why i like that because i like romantic comedies but she i think it also being set in the south like there was an underlying that's a strong lady to be like i like to fuck random dudes and i'm pretty cool about it and then like there's a there was just like a commentary on the south sea where everyone's like she you know we don like that, but it does help our baseball team, so we allow it.
Starting point is 00:07:27 As long as it's good for baseball, it's good for us. The beautiful movie really is. All right. It's on the record. Billy Wayne says watch Bill Durham and thank him later. Martha Kelly, what would you like to suggest today? I'm going to suggest that people watch Grease, the original, because I re-watched the opening of it the other day because I'm doing Master Pancake tonight.
Starting point is 00:08:04 We're doing Grease 2. And I rewatched the opening of original Grease to compare it. And it was heartbreaking. So watch Grease 1. Do not watch Grease 2 unless you want to come to Master Pancake on Twitch tonight. I do not know the particular channel or Plus this episode comes out
Starting point is 00:08:30 tomorrow night, unfortunately, so people will be a little late to that dance, but there's lots of Master Pancake movie mocks going on via Twitch, so definitely search for them, and I assume Martha, that you'll do more than one with them
Starting point is 00:08:47 because it's a fun thing to do, right? Yeah, it's really fun. But since this isn't coming out until tomorrow, I retract Grease and submit Alvin and the Chipmunks as my recommendation. Gosh, I really thought we were home free there with grease because i i know that uh you're passionate about alvin and the chipmunks and um so i i was really expecting that to maybe be your answer but uh all right so i'm crossing out grease going with Alvin and the Chipmunks, like the very first one.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Are you do you like all the films in the series or is the first one really the go to? I like them all. But the first one is definitely a great one of our great Hollywood's great musicals. And it was from 2000 2000 maybe seven or five but it's um stars jason lee and it's really just uh pretty great yeah i think i as far as i can remember i've been hearing that you're a fan of films for many years now. Yes. It's a real go-to for you. Sam? Yep. How can you top Bull Durham and
Starting point is 00:10:13 Alvin and the Chipmunks 1? It's tough. It's tough. I mean, as you know, last time I was here, I recommended Big. So this time I'm going to recommend its sequel uh big lebowski i did not know those films were tied together i really i think a lot of people didn't realize that you got to pay attention you really need to watch them back to back
Starting point is 00:10:42 yep it's a very important double feature um what is it you love about uh tbl the big lebowski um you know it's it is one of those movies that every single time i've watched it since the first time i saw it in theaters and that is many times i discover something else that i I missed in a previous viewing. Some little a little aside, a little look, a little just a little thing that makes me appreciate it even more. Specifically, the scenes with Jeffrey Lebowski and, you know, the dude and Maude Lebowski, Julianne Moore's character. When every time they interact, it's pretty ridiculously funny. Yeah, she's got like a Viking helmet on most of the time, doesn't she? In a fantasy sequence, she does.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Oh, okay. I thought she like walked around in it quite a bit. Like, first time he sees her, isn't she like posing for a picture in it? No, the first time he sees her, she's hung up from the ceiling, naked flinging art at a canvas. There you go. Yeah, I do. She's always up to something. Yeah. And of course, Philip Seymour Hoffman's very funny in it. And Sam is Sam Elliott.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Narration is always, always always good right always good yeah um all right big lebowski that's you know i'm really anxious to see if you come back uh if there was a sequel to big lebowski that i'm not aware of. I'm going to have to re-watch it again and find out. It's the only way. I can't think of any other movies that I can't think of any other Lebowski movies. I'll check the
Starting point is 00:12:37 archives. We'll see. We're going to have to do some deep research to figure this one out. Alright, well this is going to be a stiff competition between these three films i think these are uh these are all excellent recommendations and also probably all accessible at the very least for a couple of dollars on uh you know one of your streaming services but i bet they might all be free somewhere. If I had to guess, Bull Durham's probably on
Starting point is 00:13:07 HBO Max. Alvin and the Chipmunks is on Paramount+. I'm just guessing. I don't have any idea. I mean, I own the DVDs for all three of the movies that we've all just talked about, so if you just show up at my place, we can watch them. Let me real quick ask you
Starting point is 00:13:25 this why do you own the dvd of uh alvin and the chipmunks big justin long fan i knew that's the one you'd ask me about uh you know in our line of work doug as i'm sure you're aware we often are given things uh for free it's true but you get rid of those too you you get rid of them quickly uh uh you used to as a guest on the show often give those away for them that is 100 accurate and uh if we still were doing dlm shows live in person as frequently uh i'm sure i would have given that one away by now so uh you know what covid has done uh in a bad way has made me keep so many DVDs that I would have otherwise given away. So thanks.
Starting point is 00:14:11 All right. Well, those are very hurtful words that you'd give away. I shouldn't say that in front of Martha. You misunderstand. I've already watched it. I've already watched it, enjoyed it. It's a part of me. I want already watched it. I've already watched it, enjoyed it. It's a part of me. I want to share the joy. Have you seen Martha in Euphoria? I have not. Well, she's not. You don't mess with Martha anymore.
Starting point is 00:14:36 She is so badass in Euphoria that people are shocked. Right. I'll tell you my only connection to i can't wait to see it i i genuinely have heard so much about it and i know there's two seasons uh in the can now or you know have been aired so i can binge those first two but i would say about five times a week uh people will tweet at me that they confusedly thought i was the creator of euphoria because his name is Sam Levinson. Oh, and people are confused because apparently all Jewish surnames are the same to them.
Starting point is 00:15:13 Yeah. They're so similar. Yours has got two syllables. His has more. Right. And a lot of people are like, I really thought you created euphoria and I looked it up and it's not you. And I'm like, yeah, no, not me.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I'm I, as everyone who knows me knows, I did a lot of sex and drugs in high school. So I would have definitely done a show. People think social media is a way to reach out and tell people things that they didn't. Here's some telling you something they didn't know. Like, what is the purpose of that? I don't know like what is what is the purpose of that i don't know and i appreciate and we there's a lot of dlm listeners who take to social media let me to know that they have never found me funny on this podcast who does that nobody says that nobody says
Starting point is 00:15:56 that and i appreciate that they take time out of their day to let me know i'm not trying to be doug is hilarious there's usually professional comedians on the show who are always hilarious. I'm just here to, you know. Dominant. I didn't know people were doing that to you. They're not tagging me in these mean messages to you. I think they've learned. I would say, what are you talking about? He's one of the funniest actors out there. You're very sweet. You're talking about Sam Levinson though, right? The creator of
Starting point is 00:16:25 Emporia? Just to be clear. Do you ever mix them up on set, Martha? You ever like, where's Sam Levine? No, but I didn't mix them up, but I did ask where's Sam Levine just because I wanted to see him
Starting point is 00:16:41 but not because I thought it was Sam Levinson because he is very funny and I will beat up those people on social media who are mean to him. That's what I'm telling you. Martha's Martha's turned a corner. She really, she can beat people up for you. I'm very excited. Now I'm going to binge it. Disclaimer. I, I can't actually beat people up and I don't
Starting point is 00:17:06 want to fight, but I would tell people to fuck off on behalf of a fellow comedian. Yeah, and you'd send some minions to do something maybe. Have you ever met the minions? No. Sadly. Well, this is a a terrific round of recommendation nation and uh people have some
Starting point is 00:17:32 some films to check out if they want to do such a thing and uh we're going to play some games after this break we'll be right back we are back and let's play a game that I call, it's a new game, called The Little Search Engine That Could. I always try to amuse Sam with these games. And I recently, I believe it was yesterday, typed the first name Jennifer into the Internet Movie Database's search engine. Oh, wow. And eight names popped up. Jennifer 8, if you will. You'll each take turns naming Jennifer's that you think are on the list. The higher up your Jennifer is,
Starting point is 00:18:32 the more points you get for that. Jennifer Billy Wayne is up first. So he gets to pick from all the Jennifer's that have ever been. Who do you think might be number one, or at least in the top eight, according to IMDB right now? Jennifer Aniston. Oh, that's a good guess. Seems like a real good one to lead us off here.
Starting point is 00:19:00 You're each going to get to say three. We'll do it, you know, in order. If you can't think of one, that's fine, too. But in the case of Jennifer Aniston, I think that's the first one most people would think of. Didn't even make the top eight. What? I don't. Wow.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Yeah. My laptop. This search engine is broken. Yeah. Well, don't look it up on your own that's cheating but I mean I just slammed it shut okay okay because we'll be back to you you know with another round Billy Wayne you know
Starting point is 00:19:37 two more times this isn't your last chance on this so try to think of other Jennifer's but now we'll go to Martha Kelly can you think of a Jennifer you think might be on this so try to think of other jennifers but now we'll go to martha kelly can you think of a jennifer you think might be on this list i'm gonna say jennifer lopez you're going j-lo on this one because i mean you know everybody saves room for j-lo as ralph garman used to say i don't know if he still says it
Starting point is 00:20:05 she is number seven so that means Martha Kelly is on the board with two points wow J-Lo is seven number seven with all her current antics with Ben Affleck
Starting point is 00:20:23 you think we'd get her a little higher up there? I would. It seemed like people were excited for two seconds about them getting back together, and then they pivoted back to talking about Kim and Pete. You know what I mean? Yeah. It hasn't really been that much talk about Ben and J-Lo, just that they apparently are back together. She's never been in a chipmunks movie though. Has she Martha? No. And honestly, I, I don't know how she would fit into their world.
Starting point is 00:20:59 She's they're not, they're not very hip. And, uh, I don't know what I'm talking about i would recommend entertainers they're singers right they could she could join me she could be in their group yeah but there's no like she's in she's in rom-coms and they don't there's no there's not a lot of romance in the chipmunks movies but i bet sam has a good guess. How about I stop talking? Well, I would have guessed Jennifer Lopez, quite honestly, which is I was bummed. But hearing that she's number seven is crazy. I will take not J-Lo then, but J-Law Jennifer Lawrence. That's another seems to me to be a pretty obvious she's not on the list at all and i will throw my computer across the room she managed to make the
Starting point is 00:21:55 list because i think she's got uh something new coming out or something going on or maybe she's pregnant again i forget but um something's going on with j-law and she uh managed to come in at number six oh my god so that's worth three big points for sam now we come back around to billy wayne he's had some time to think it over he's heard these other actresses names who might who might be up here that we're overlooking at Jennifer I was gonna go Jennifer Lawrence but damn it
Starting point is 00:22:35 oh wow yeah it sounds like you got maybe a delay on your end there and you didn't hear that we just talked about her for a while there is a delay somewhere Delay on your end there. And you didn't hear that. We talked about her for a while. There's a delay somewhere. Jennifer Jason Lee.
Starting point is 00:22:55 That's the only other. I know she's not on the list, but this list makes no sense. Jennifer Jason Lee is a terrific Jennifer, but she did not make this senseless list. I didn't think so. Yeah, but you'll still get another shot, Billy. It's not over till it's over. Martha, back to you for another Jennifer. Okay, this might be the last Jennifer I can think of. Jennifer Garner. She is a Jennifer. Okay, this might be the last Jennifer I can think of. Jennifer
Starting point is 00:23:25 Garner. She is a Jennifer. We were just discussing her on the show for her role as Elektra in the Daredevil and the sequel. What do you call that, Sam? Is it a sequel or a spinoff?
Starting point is 00:23:41 I think Elektra was a spinoff movie. I don't think it was yeah i don't know if she ever spins i guess she spins a lot so she spins a little she's a bit of a spinner and um she just turned 50 i think i think they uh just a day or two ago they were like she's 50 i thought she was 13 going on 30. Apparently she's passed both of those landmarks. Both of those events have come and gone. And now she's 50.
Starting point is 00:24:16 She's having a very good, terrible, bad. How did the title go? Alexander and the Very Good, No Good, Awful. Not good, terrible, very bad movie. What a day. Yeah, fuckery i forget the whole title coming in at number five jay garner alias herself uh she gets four points added to her two points martha's running away with this thing wow with six points, six drops of Jennifer, if you will. You're right.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Much like the previous guesses, I, too. It's two in a row, by the way. Martha took the Jennifer right out of my mouth. Sorry. No, it's quite all right. That's my... I got to ask Doug to bring people on with last names that are after L when I get to play these
Starting point is 00:25:05 games yeah this is a sick lineup the way i found people that are both uh alphabetically ahead of you sam i know it's just two two weeks in a row now doug um uh oh oh um uh academy award winner jennifer connelly she's got to be on this list somewhere. Well, I got to tell you something, Sam. I guess she's in, like, is there a new season of Snowpiercer on? Oh, I could not tell you. TNT. I know that show has been going strong. And I can't think of anything else that she is known for right now.
Starting point is 00:25:48 But somehow she's the number one. Jennifer Connelly is number one on this list. So that is worth eight points. Sam is now in the lead with 11 whopping points can still be beaten. But yes, it is. What a strange turn of events.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Billy Wayne, have you thought of any other Jennifers? My favorite, Jennifer Coolidge. Jennifer Coolidge is an amazing Jennifer. Poised to win the Emmy for season one of White Lotus returning in season two as the same character I assume vacationing in a different spot so I'm looking forward to that but unfortunately she did not make this list
Starting point is 00:26:40 so Billy Wayne has made somewhat of an accomplishment because he's named three famous Jennifers and none of them are on this list. So I applaud you for that. Wow. Thank you. It's impressive. You know what I mean? It's impressive.
Starting point is 00:26:59 You don't miss the dartboard three times. Sometimes you get it on the board once. The Aniston one is shocking. I still don't miss the dartboard three times sometimes you get it on the board once you know the Aniston one is shocking I still don't believe that yeah it's very shocking you're going to hear the results soon it's possible she's
Starting point is 00:27:16 9th or 10th you know like it's just right well also is it possible she spells Jennifer in a weird way that I didn't realize before was weird like there's only one N in it or something and maybe that's why that's an excellent point to bring up but she spells it uh quote unquote normal style and i can't think of any famous jennifers who don't spell it normal style yeah okay now that you mention it it's not a name people mess with like sam with the two m's sure well that's becoming more common now it should and i'm i'm taking all the credit yeah as you as you should thank you
Starting point is 00:27:51 we've given martha some real serious uh thinking time here i did think of another one i didn't think i could but i did i'm gonna be so upset if it's the, it's the only other Jennifer I could think of. I'm going to be so upset. You could take this away from me, Sam. Jennifer Hudson. Okay. I'm sure she's on the list now that you say that. And it's not who I was thinking of. Jay HUD is a great one.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Another Oscar winner. For her work in Showgirls. Wow. Dreamgirls, of course, is the name of the film. I was just having some fun. But unfortunately, the sad news is she did not make this list wait to hear this list
Starting point is 00:28:49 it's really something so sam you get to do uh you know you can do a victory lap uh extra jennifer here if you the last the last jennifer i can think of who could conceivably be on this list and i'm sure she's not is uh she carried a watermelon jennifer gray oh you're talking about in dirty dancing she's got a watermelon well that's her line she's i carried a watermelon oh i see yeah most people would yeah talk about putting baby in a corner but you found a new way to talk about her, I wanted to give one of her lines of dialogue instead of just talking about her. She's number eight on the list. Wow.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Yeah. That is shocking. You picked up one more point. Okay. Fantastic. Yeah. That is shocking. Really?
Starting point is 00:29:37 Yeah. Because she's she's showing up in something again recently. Yes. I mean, I saw her. There was some article that I didn't click the link of online talking about her, you know, famous nose job that made her look so different from how she looked before, but it like, you know, changed her career or whatever, but I didn't.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Yeah. Click the link. Yeah. It was, you know, it was like Felicity cutting her hair almost. It was like, uh, had that kind of cultural impact of like, it's weird how, not that she was shunned, but it was just sort of like, why'd you do that? Why'd you change your nose? Like you're a fit, you're a famous, attractive person. Uh, but you know, that's what this pressures in society, uh, you know, uh, what people see, you know, themselves when they, uh, but you know, that's what this pressures in society, uh, you know, uh, what people see, you know, themselves when they, uh, look in the mirror, but I mean, she's still a pretty woman,
Starting point is 00:30:31 you know, it didn't like ruin her, but it's just, she looks like a different person, you know? Um, but anyway, I do believe she was recently in some magazine talking about all of this because I was just talking about it recently with my girlfriend. So let's get everybody's dying to know. I'm dying. Which ones? I'll do it, you know, family feud style. We'll start with the second highest person on the list.
Starting point is 00:31:02 And this one's going to, I think, blow everybody away. Jennifer Morrison. Jennifer Morrison? Yeah. Jennifer Morrison. She's a blonde lady who I think was on House for a while, but I don't
Starting point is 00:31:20 know what she's in now. I don't know if I may be confusing her with olivia wilde okay number three again someone who terrific actress been around for a while is probably up to something right now i'm not aware of jennifer esposito i should have thought of her yeah she was She was on The Boys, I think, in season one. And then, speaking of superheroes, I assume because of her work in the Peacemaker TV series.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Oh, Jennifer Holland. Jennifer Holland is on the list. Yeah. And then we got Jennifer Garner, J-Law, J-Lo, Jennifer Grace. So that's all the Jennifers. Who was number one again?
Starting point is 00:32:16 Jennifer Connelly. Oh, right. Did she win her Oscar, Sam, for A Beautiful Mind? She sure did. Submitted in the category of Best Supporting Actress instead of Best Actress, even though she is the one and only female actor in the movie. Yeah, that's part of the problem with roles for women
Starting point is 00:32:36 and also positioning for better Oscar potential. They end up going for that support, calling it a supporting role because she was such a supporting character. Sure. I think she still would have won if she'd gone for best actress, but it was a, if memory serves, it was a tough year. Yeah. Who do you think, who did win best actress that year? That's a great question. It, I was going to say Julia Roberts, but I'm a year off because that was Aaron Brockovich was 2000.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Hmm. So now I can't remember because Aaron Brockovich, it should have been, of course, Ellen Burstyn, Requiem for a Dream. Maybe it should have should have won over Jennifer Connelly. No, for should have won over Julia Roberts for Aaron Brockovich. Oh, because she was in the lead category because they could have shuffled her off to support. They could have. They could have. But they were honest and fair.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Oh, that's going to bother me to know when that I can't remember who won best actress in 2001. Well, you know, a lot of things happened in 2001. It was a difficult difficult time. We block a lot of things happened in 2001 it was a difficult uh difficult time we block a lot of things out do you want do you want me to google it on my phone no that's okay let's let let's let sam be a in torture oh let's do it during the commercial break that's a good idea we'll get
Starting point is 00:34:00 up during the break and we'll come back and we'll tell everybody the results. We'll be right back. All right, we're back. And we figured it out during the break that it was Halle Berry's big win for Monsters Ball that year that made the people behind Jennifer Connelly's performance in Beautiful Mind go, let's put her in the supporting category. And yeah, and everybody went home a winner. It worked out great for everybody. They still say, though, Sam, do you put any weight behind the Oscar curse that people's careers tend to go south more than north after an Oscar win?
Starting point is 00:34:44 You know, I don't know that it's a curse i think it's a combination of things where you know once you win an oscar uh it it may be you feel this urge to be either choosier you know with the scripts you're getting or you decide well this is it this is my one opportunity to cash in and i'll just say yes to whoever offers me the most money. And I think it's more the latter that leads to things like Catwoman. Right. But also it's like, you know, Catwoman, you know, you just on paper, it's a dream role for her. Yeah. You know, and then the movie, you know, just turned out so silly.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Well, I find it hard to believe any reasonable person read that script and thought this will be good yeah that's what you think would happen but i don't know but credit to hallie berry she she was one of the few people to show up and collect her razzie yeah that movie yeah. And I didn't, that's the other thing though, I didn't think her acting was bad in that movie. It was just a silly movie. Oh yeah. She, she does not phone it in. She's up to the task of being that cat woman. Acting like a cat. Did you see it, Martha? I saw part of it at a master pancake live show in austin and i found it quite upsetting
Starting point is 00:36:06 thought it would be better yeah well they really decided it was the choice they made that like unlike other cat women who are just sort of you know putting out the idea of being a cat that she really becomes a cat and does cat like things like sleeping on a shelf and, and enjoying sushi. And playing basketball really well. Like cats. That one doesn't really track. I didn't know basketball.
Starting point is 00:36:37 I didn't know they'd be that good at it. If they could only be human and have hands. That's the greatest basketball. All right. It's time for another game this one's gonna decide the first game was just for fun you know sam won so he gets to go first oh boy it's not necessarily a good thing no yeah right because we're gonna play whose tagline is it anyway oh boy i'll say a tagline through a motion picture sam's up first so he'll get the first guess if he can't guess correctly what movie this is a tagline for then billy wayne will get a shot and if he misses then
Starting point is 00:37:16 martha will get a shot i mean everybody should get their shots don't we agree uh yes but uh you know if nobody gets it we move on to the next one and uh you know hopefully some some of these will be answered correctly if you figure out what there's a theme oh man yeah but here's the first one sam just out of the gate it's not going to be easy. Okay. A lot of movies could have this tagline, but which movie do you think has the tagline The Boys Are Back in Town...
Starting point is 00:37:53 and they have competition? Ooh. I remember that. What's that? I'm saying it out loud to myself okay but that doesn't the boys are back in town and they have competition
Starting point is 00:38:21 um it's that movie about Stin Lizzy right? i feel like 48 hours too or another 48 hours that might have been the first part might have been a tagline for that movie right because the boys are back in town was a big song in the first 48 hours movie that's true i i know this can't be right but i'll just say um old dogs i don't know i got nothing done that i think that's you know that's a terrific guess old dogs because they're back in town they're back in town maybe some sort of dumb competition they
Starting point is 00:39:00 get involved in yeah maybe there's younger dogs. I don't know. Okay, well, that's incorrect. Let me get my incorrect noise. Much appreciated. And now we move on to Billy Wayne. What do you think might be the tagline, the movie that has the tagline the boys are back in town and they have competition? Grumpier old men. Another terrific guess because they both were very much into ice fishing, I believe. But I guess they lived there all the time.
Starting point is 00:39:37 It's just sometimes the winter would come and then they'd go out and fish. So that also is incorrect. Martha, what do you think it might be do you have any guesses I have two guesses it's either the Mighty Ducks part 2 or the Charlie
Starting point is 00:39:59 Sheen baseball movie part 2 which I can't remember the name of but one of those Major League Major League 2 or Mighty Ducks Sheen baseball movie part two, which I can't remember the name of, but one of those is my major league. Yeah. Major league two or mighty ducks too. Which one do you want to go with? I guess major league two. Oh no. That's incorrect. Do you want to go with the other one? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:40:20 let's go. That one's incorrect also but uh you figured out it was the sequel and um you're so close the correct answer is alvin and the Chipmunks the sequel? No! I can't believe I missed it. Aren't you staring at the movie poster right now? I can't believe it. But it makes sense. The Chipmunks are a competition, but they do end up all being friends.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Well, I'm glad to hear that. That's a spoiler I'm happy to hear. I think I've seen some or all of the Chipmunks movies. And like you said earlier, the first one's probably the best one. But nobody got this one, the Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Squeakquel. But Sam gets to go first again in this next round. Oh, wow. Are you ready,
Starting point is 00:41:30 Sam? I guess. All right. The tagline was, for this motion picture, they're going to rock the boat. Hmm. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:41:40 The boat. Hmm. They're going to rock the boat. Yeah, sounds like, yeah, I don't want to give any more clues, but. Sounds like there's a boat and they're going to rock it. All right. I'm going to attempt it. I will say Alvin and the Chipmunks, Chipwrecked. That is correct.
Starting point is 00:42:16 That is correct. You did it. Which I don't own on DVD. And that will be remedied toot sweet. Okay. Sam's on the board with one point. Billy Wayne is up first on this next round. What movie, Billy Wayne, do you think has the tagline,
Starting point is 00:42:42 Chip happens? the tagline chip happens the chipmunks go to Alabama I thought you were going to say go to hell same same that's your guess I thought you were going to say go to hell. Same. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:08 That's your guess? It's the Chipmunks movie, for sure. Yep. But you don't know any of the titles of the Chipmunk movies? Oh, I can proudly say I do not. Oh. All right. movies. Oh, I can proudly say I do not. Oh. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:29 But they never, as far as I know, they didn't have one where they went to Alabama. Which is the one with David Cross is in it. He's in three out of the four, as it turns out. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Martha, what do you think it is?
Starting point is 00:43:45 I know that it's the road chip. Alvin, the chipmunks, the road chip? Yes. That is incorrect. I can't believe I missed it. Right? It's just shocking. Wow. Right? It's just shocking. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Sam? I mean, it's the only one left. It has to be, oh, gee, Alvin and the Chipmunks, right? Well, if it was an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, yes. That probably would have been the one. But as it turns out, that's the tagline for a movie that's simply
Starting point is 00:44:24 called Chips. Oh. Oh, shit. the one. But as it turns out, that's the tagline for a movie that's simply called Chips. The Dax Shepard Chips? The Dax Shepard reboot of the TV series Chips with Eric Estrada. Very good. Yeah, that's my favorite
Starting point is 00:44:41 tagline, maybe of all time, when Chip happens. Sam is still That's my favorite tagline maybe of all time, Chip Happens. Sam is still on the board with one point. We go back to Billy Wayne for this next one. Are you ready, Billy Wayne? I hope so. The tagline is, here comes trouble. Big trouble in little China.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Incorrect. Martha. I'm going to say problem child. Okay. Not problem child too. That'd be here comes trouble I'm going to say Problem Child. Okay. Not Problem Child 2? That'd be Here Comes Trouble Again, wouldn't it? Yeah, Here Trouble Comes Back Again.
Starting point is 00:45:36 God damn it. It's going to try it again. Alvin and the Chipmunks? That is correct sam's good at this well i know how doug works he tries to throw us off the set with one weird one like chips and then he goes right back to the nonsense uh all right so bill So Billy Wayne's up first again on this next one. What would be
Starting point is 00:46:09 the tagline? If you're going to win at any cost, be prepared to pay the price. Oh, God. Hmm. Rambo, First Blood. If you're going to win at any cost, be prepared to pay the price.
Starting point is 00:46:38 That is incorrect. Martha? Is it martha is it um uh indecent proposal no but the guesses are terrific today hmm it's upsetting um uh the one uh oh boy I hope I remember the title. Martha already said it once. It's Alvin and the Chipmunks. Is it called The Road Chip? You think the name, a tagline for an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie is going to win at any cost?
Starting point is 00:47:17 Be prepared to pay the price. Maybe they... I have not seen this film. Maybe it's like a pony up. You fuck. I don't know. Maybe it's like a gumball rally kind of thing where they're road trip.
Starting point is 00:47:35 It's because they're all racing across the country. I don't know. Maybe they lose their precious car. Just parents watching it. Like this is great. lose their precious car. Just parents watching it be like, this is gritty.
Starting point is 00:47:48 It's the Alvin and the Chipmunks Fast and Furious crossover we didn't know we needed. It's something we definitely did need. It's an intense basketball drama starring Nick Nolte called Blue Chips. Oh, God. Blue Chips.
Starting point is 00:48:02 Blue Chips. Yeah. If you're going to win at any cost, be prepared to pay the price. it's a fun day. Blue chips. Yeah. If you're going to win at any cost, be prepared to pay the price. Just a bit of chipmunk trivia for you. The road trip does have
Starting point is 00:48:18 Theodore get hit by a car, and they do think that he's dead for a moment. And that is true. At any cost, Doug. Yeah. They paid the price. That's terrible that you think he's dead.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Yeah, it's upsetting. It's very upsetting. Who are the chipmunks going to annoy if he's dead? Or wait, did you say one of the chipmunks gets hit by yeah yeah theodore theodore the baby and then they call it the road chip that's just that's just cruel there's a lot of stuff yeah but nobody falls off the boat in uh chipwrecked right or i guess they get chipwrecked yeah well, they get in a hang gliding accident and get stranded on an island.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Okay. Is that how you describe it when you get drunk, Martha? Do you say last night I got Chipwrecked? Just drink a bunch of wine and watch all four Chipmunk movies. Let's go to a final round of this game that I think doesn't matter at this point. Sam's running
Starting point is 00:49:31 away with it, but it's so much fun and Billy Wayne has such great guesses. Billy Wayne, what movie has the tagline Fast and Furry Us? Is it? movie has a tagline fast and furry us is it
Starting point is 00:49:48 is it Alvin and the Chipmunks road chip it's the road chip it's the road chip I'm still going to give you a point just so you walk out of here with your you stay there where you're at with your head held high.
Starting point is 00:50:09 But what does it say about having to pay the ultimate price in that? It doesn't. It just says fast and free. And then they had another one. They had an alternate one. There was another play on another. Oh, it was
Starting point is 00:50:24 oh, it was boys on the hood that marketing team at uh the chipmunks movies really between the titles and the taglines i think they're doing great work and i i hope for all of our sakes that there's a part five. Have you heard anything, Martha? Is there any rumblings about like you're just how much you love these movies? They should make one that you're in. I wish they would make one that's like a concert film, like Katy Perry's and Taylor Swift's, you know,
Starting point is 00:51:02 concert documentaries, but I haven't heard that they are. So hopefully someday. That would be a great idea. You could be, you know, their manager or something. And David Cross was there like record executive guy or something, right? He was briefly their manager in the first one after he turned them against Dave, which is very heartbreaking. first one after he turned them against Dave, which is very heartbreaking. But yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Have you run into David Cross? Are you one of those fans that treats him like he's the villain that he plays in the films? No, I met him at standup shows. I think mostly before I saw Alvin and the Chipmunks but I've been a fan of his since Mr. Show since before I started stand-up so yeah
Starting point is 00:51:52 he's so funny that something people don't realize is that he's funny in those movies he's a good that's why he's in three out of the four of them because he's good at it he is for sure. But Sam Levine is the best at playing these games today.
Starting point is 00:52:11 He is our winner. Cannot join us on the next show, sadly, but we will have him back very soon. And by very soon, I mean like in a month or so that that sounds wonderful thank you tell everybody one last time before you leave us for a month about are you going to suspend your cameos uh no the next few weeks because you're so busy or no i always make time for the cameos so So just briefly tell everybody again, unless there's something else you want to plug.
Starting point is 00:52:48 No, no, I'll briefly plug my cameos. Look, I'm happy to do birthdays, anniversaries, congratulatory messages. But if you have bad news you need to break to someone or you need to offer up a heartfelt apology that you can't find the right words for, please come to me. I will find the words for you. I will break the right words for please come to me i will find the
Starting point is 00:53:05 words for you i will break the bad news for you in a delightful way and take the heat off you and there you go that's that's where i i enjoy living in the cameo space well thank you very much sam levine we will uh see you again soon billy wayne davis yes promote yourself what have you got to plug i uh i am if you have to give sam levine bad news oh wow tell me i will i will tell him on the next episode of i'm going to be honest bad news sounds better with the accent thank you yes that's how my yeah that's how my camera does it yes oh i've got a special coming out soon but we don't know where yet so yay okay so everybody just look everywhere just keep your eyes peeled on the on that on those couple streaming sites. Does it have a title?
Starting point is 00:54:06 Testimony. It's preachy. You're going to bring it. You're going to bring the word. I'm just telling everybody how wrong they are. I love it. There's so much wrongness out there. I appreciate you. Martha Kelly.
Starting point is 00:54:26 You'll be back on the next season of Euphoria, yes? Can you say stuff like that? I have no idea. I really don't know. Oh, suspense. I don't know, and I don't even know if he's started writing it yet, but
Starting point is 00:54:40 I won't put my hopes on it just because season two was so different from season one. I, and I would not assume that I would be back, but of course, if they asked, I would love to go back, but we'll see. Yeah. I mean, they didn't, you know, they didn't kill you off or anything. So there's always the, you know, they didn't kill you off or anything. So there's always, you know.
Starting point is 00:55:09 I always hope to get more acting work because it feels like stealing money. So I always want to get to do that again. But in the meantime, you can see me tooling around the parking lots of the Burbank Ralphs or bonds or pavilions. Just you don't go into the supermarket. You just hang out in the parking lot. I like to drive around the parking lot and pretend I'm on the road trip. Well, don't run over any of those little, those little critters while you're doing it. Be prepared to pay the ultimate price.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Be careful. Here's my plugs. Next Sunday, May 1st, Stugloves Movies is part of the Netflix is a joke festival. We're doing the first live audience Stugloves Movies in the Los Angeles area in who knows how long. It's at four 20 at a club called Avalon's right there on vine across the street from capital
Starting point is 00:56:10 records. Uh, so that's a week out. And then I'm doing my, uh, traditional Cinco de Mayo Douglas movies taping at the Zany's comedy club in Rosemont, Illinois, O'Hare adjacent. And then of course on May 5th, for those that don't speak Spanish. One more time. I'd like to thank my guests, Sam Levine, Martha Kelly, Billy Wayne Davis. What a terrific group. Thank you for being with me for this hour.
Starting point is 00:56:43 And as always, well, I'll give him another 20 minutes, but that's it. Airplane! Now it's time for Doug to watch another talk. Eyes of gold, his viewing crowd was baked in cockies. There's no room in his heart for you. Because Doug loves movies
