Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as it pops more kernels in his teeth There's still not one that he won't see, cause Doug loves movies! Hey hey hey everybody! My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug Loves Movies, recording on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. I hope everyone listening had a good Thanksgiving and I hope my guests will have a good Thanksgiving because it's two days before Thanksgiving as we speak. And my guests are Bo Johnson, Gabe Malika and Clark Wolf. Hello everybody. What's up Doug?
Starting point is 00:00:49 Hello, lovely to be here. We always count on everybody to speak over each other in that part because you said all three of your names. I love the chaos Doug. It's insane man. But let's meet everybody individually and Alphabetically, so you know it's coming But first name he is a champion from the show
Starting point is 00:01:13 We did it roosters in Sunnyvale a few weeks ago. It's Bo Johnson. Hey Bo. Hello. Lovely to be back I'm hoping I can somehow Fail upwards into a second victory today. That's, you know, happening more and more these days. Somebody can really, anybody can really pull out the win. And so I wish you luck in that endeavor. And I wanted to ask you, what part of the world you're in right now? I am calling from the rare pleasure of being at home in Seattle, Washington at the desk I share with my girlfriend. So very happy to be off of the road at the moment.
Starting point is 00:01:55 How does she feel about having to sit through this podcast? I think she is in the bedroom. You're not sharing it right now. No, I would not subject in the bedroom. We're not hearing it right now. No, I did. I would not subject her to that. I were too too much of a loving relationship to force her to listen to the podcast, get recorded live with only my audio version where she's fully left out of the the rest of the conversation.
Starting point is 00:02:20 My girlfriend does the exact same thing when she's not interested in what I am doing. She watches Bob Ops burgers So we've got that in common. It's the prevailing soundtrack of our household It's also what our dog gets to listen to whenever we're out of the house So I hope I hope she's a fan of the show because otherwise she'll get to watch Every season multiple times over the course of her her lifespan Does your dog really look at the TV or is it just only on special occasions or never? We're house-sitting a dog, dog-sitting a house right now. And we're dog-sitting and he has no interest in the TV.
Starting point is 00:03:04 I even put on the show Bluey because they say dogs like to look at Bluey. Our hope is that in time, she will develop an interest in the TV. We got her like four months ago now. And so she's at the point where when we're both out of the house, she's not freaking out,
Starting point is 00:03:20 but she's waiting fully by the door. And so whenever we come back, it's kind of like, you know, those YouTube videos where it's like, soldier returns home from tour after six months. It's kind of like that, but it's just a man went to change laundry for five minutes still. And which is very cute, but I'm also like,
Starting point is 00:03:39 this is a bit traumatic for what just happened. So she's getting to the point where hopefully in the next year, maybe Bob's burgers will be the focal point of her attention. But for now she is transfixed by a shut door. It could, it could, uh, you know, over time be a calming influence. Uh, cause it's, it's, you know, I mean, some of their voices are a little screechy and they yell sometimes,
Starting point is 00:04:02 especially, uh, Jean, but for the most part, it's it's it's very mellow. And it's nice. Our show. Yeah, the songs. Yeah, we have our cute. We have our own little Truman Show version movie going on where we just have the little camera that's trained on our home. But instead of Jim Carrey, it's just Pixie the dog. And she doesn't do a lot.
Starting point is 00:04:24 She mostly just waits, but she doesn't do a lot. She mostly just waits. But she doesn't know she's the star of her own two-person film. Well, thanks for being here, dude. And also joining us today, she's a champion in my heart. Let's just put it that way. It's Clark Wolfe. Hey, Clark. Hey, Doug. Thank you so much for having me back on you and I are both currently in Southern, California and
Starting point is 00:04:54 The the weather is quite gorgeous not to rub it in the faces of are the other guests or the listeners that may be in Colder climes. It's true today is quite gloomy, but in the best way at least where I am. And it's just enough chilly and I accept I'll take it. I'll take this weather for giving vibes. Oh, and we'll get you know, I'd say I've spent a lot of Christmases in Southern California, I'd say I've you know, I spent a lot of Christmases in Southern, California I'd say there's like 50 50 chance. It would just be a sunny day on Christmas Day. It's absolutely wild
Starting point is 00:05:34 Sometimes it snows. I mean rains, excuse me So you and our friend Sam Levine are in cahoots We are we are what are you working on together? So Sam and I just launched a crowdfunding campaign to shoot the opening pages of a holiday slasher movie that I wrote and will be directing called Fiend's Giving. And it is exactly what it sounds like. It's really fun. It's a it's a Thanksgiving set on Thanksgiving. So I know Eli is a frequent guest on the show, but don't worry that we're not stepping on his his toes. This is very different. Yeah, yours doesn't have a take place entirely in a target or whatever that was supposed to be. It does not. It does not. It's like very influenced by, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:25 you're next and the strangers, but like with a sense of humor of the original Black Christmas kind of deal. So it's really more like family and relationship focused. It just so happens that Sam's character meets, he's playing a really douchey tech bro and he comes across the gobbler and yeah, Sam has, we're gonna beat the shit out of Sam. That is for sure. So we launched this crowdfunding campaign. And the thing though that I'm really excited about and I really hope your audience thinks is cool,
Starting point is 00:07:00 especially as the holidays are coming up is our reward system is we're gonna teach you how to make a movie. So we are live streaming from pre-pro, we're live streaming from VFX tests, we'll actually live stream from set. We're setting up a Discord so that our backers can like talk to each and us obviously,
Starting point is 00:07:20 Sam and I will be, you know, very interactive. But, you know, I had my last short film that I directed that's just wrapping up its festival circuit. Now, um, we did a little of this and it was really cool. And, um, and I feel like now Sam and I, we've been in the business for so long, I really wanna help kind of share the tools and also it's fun, making a horror movie is super fun. So where we launched through Indiegogo. So if they look up Fiends, F-I-E-N-D-S giving, they'll find it.
Starting point is 00:08:01 That's awesome. Yeah, go check it out everybody. And there's all sorts of different levels that you can sign up with. And one of them is be Sam's new best friend. If you pony up a certain amount, you're going to be stuck with Sam is your best friend. It's true. But you know, you know how it works with best friends these days just have a political disagreement and walk away Okay, so So joining us today
Starting point is 00:08:34 The reason I said that Clark is a champion in my heart is because we've got double champions on this week ago because he This week because he won a few weeks ago It's Gabe Malika hey Gabe what's up Doug it's nice to be back happy to have you back do you remember what game it was that helped you to pull it out how you got the win I I don't remember Doug I've done this show enough times by the grace of God that I now don't remember. That is very unlike most of the comedians I have on the show who are hyper competitive and remember exactly what they got wrong. It caused them to lose. Oh, that's good.
Starting point is 00:09:17 You know, I think it's this thing, Doug, where it's like, if you want it too much, you'll lose. So I like, I think I have this air of like, oh, who can remember? But like secretly, I do want to win Okay, well, I know that you do want to win because you you have and that's That's the real mark of a champion is wanting it How's the Is there a blizzard happening right now to you where you are on the East Coast? There's no blizzard, but it is cold and dark and the idea that you guys have the sun out right now is infuriating
Starting point is 00:09:52 To be fair, it's cloudy. It's a semi-sun. It's like, you know, it's cloudy for us. You know, California, but it's a bright and cloudy day. But yeah, it's I sympathize with Everybody and that's why I brought it up not to rub it in your face not to make you feel bad about it but to say I feel your pain and You know I'll go through it for if there's a reason like if I have to go somewhere cold for professional reasons You know if I'm getting paid to be there, but when it's entirely up to me. It's unlikely to happen
Starting point is 00:10:31 Unless there's a Rerouting I could do anything about so thank you to all three of you for joining us today and Before we play some games. I would like each one of you to answer a tough question and that is Can you recommend one movie? I mean don't say yes or no could you please? Actually Recommend a movie we'll start with bow on the movie that I have on in mind today I saw a couple of weeks ago on the plane, and it is called Misery by Rob Reiner, which is an old movie that I hadn't heard of before. And it comes to
Starting point is 00:11:12 mind because I feel like most of the time I'll watch something that is made to be watched on a tiny screen. And every once in a while I'll watch something and go, that was art. And I should have seen that at home. And it's, if you haven't heard of the film, if you're as equally out of touch as I am, because it is a very successful movie. It has a Kathy Bates and James, James Kahn in it. And it's about an author who, he is a very successful author
Starting point is 00:11:41 and he crashes his car during a winter storm. And his biggest fan finds and saves him. Or so you think at first dot dot dot. And the movie also has a fond place in my heart at the moment, because earlier this week we had our first big winter storm in Washington, where I live. And it was, of course, the day that I had to drive across the pass to this little German town in Washington called Leavenworth, which if you don't know Leavenworth, it's kind of like if Medieval Times was only German and the whole city. So like the McDonald's looks
Starting point is 00:12:16 like a German building. It's like a cartoon version of what America would look like if World War Two went a different direction. And I have done enough of those dumb drives for 200 bucks across like a pass, like returning that night where you go, maybe I'll live. And and I was like, I'd just seen this movie and I go, you know, maybe this movie was a sign that tonight I'll stay in Leavenworth until the storm is over. So perhaps had a role in keeping me alive as well Yeah, cuz you don't want to crash and then have your biggest fan happen to Be there when it happens and yeah, thank you man, and then
Starting point is 00:12:56 Do weird shit so What I find fascinating about you just learning about misery is That in the pop culture lexicon it comes up a lot when people are talking about extremely violent scenes in movies and you know particularly everybody it's not really a big spoiler to talk about the hobbling that occurs in misery because that's how much people even people haven't seen the movie like you really knew nothing about it
Starting point is 00:13:30 when you made the decision to watch it. I came out of honestly the fact like I was so out of touch with what it was that I kind of was like it must be bad if it's on the plane and then after I finished I told one or two friends and they're like, that's a classic. How did you not know? So anyway, for the other competitors on the podcast today, perhaps a little bit of a chance for you to rise to the occasion and defeat someone who only now had learned about renowned film misery two weeks ago because of the Alaska film collection.
Starting point is 00:14:05 You're going to not know a lot of the movies we talk about today, but you know, that's that's part of the part of the fun. I like to think let's go to Clark. What's your recommendation movie you think people should see? So I also just learned about this movie and I thought it was really, really, it was amazing. It was called Wicked and no, I'm keyed. I keyed. So I really actually though, there is a movie y'all, your audience knows I love horror movies. And so for those who haven't seen it, Audity, there's a movie called Audity on. Have y'all seen it?
Starting point is 00:14:43 Have you seen it, Doug? I have not, but I just recently saw it like on a list of like best reviewed horror movies and I was I was intrigued. It's a really, really cool little movie and it's from I can't remember if it's from Ireland or England, but either way it's on Shudder and AMC Plus now. It is the filmmakers, I want to say either, I can't remember if, I think it's their second film, but I was just really impressed by the visuals. I was impressed by the acting. I was impressed by the weirdness of the story, but it's very accessible. So it's like a movie that, you know, it's not like, it's not too indie where you're, you know, it's like overly weird and inaccessible.
Starting point is 00:15:29 It's a really fun kind of small little creepy movie. And I think everyone I've talked to has said they've really enjoyed the, how it unfolds. So would recommend if you're looking. And you know, it also has like a little chill. It takes place in this like, not a castle, but it's like, it's modern day. It's taken place in this place in the countryside
Starting point is 00:15:51 in England, I think. And so it's like, it's very cold. They're renovating, this couple is renovating this old kind of stony property. And so yeah, it's a fun like kind of curl up in front of the fire or whatever kind of fall movie, I think All right oddity
Starting point is 00:16:10 misery, so we got Two movies that take place in cold settings with why at the end of the title gave you have to follow that pattern Good luck. No, what have you you got maybe you're gonna take us to somewhere completely maybe you've got a beach movie or a summer movie in mind I got I got something that is probably too mainstream for what I normally recommend but two nights ago I went to the regal in Astoria with a buddy and we saw a sold-out showing of gladi 2. And I just had so much fun. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Yeah. Oh, I had a great time. I just was like, I'm all in on what this is. This movie, this movie knows what it is and it's having fun. And I felt like I was 12 years old and it's I just had a blast and like sneaky good and like Denzel's in it. So you're like, oh, Denzel's throwing a hundred miles an hour Like who care like like at no point was I like taken out of it by anything absurd? I was just like this is so fun I'll do this forever
Starting point is 00:17:18 It's funny people have liked, you know tried to pick at it, you know, like they bring up things that are you know seem like ahead of its time or you know to outrageous or whatever and you know, especially like historians will weigh in and stuff and Ridley Scott's reaction is just hilarious every time because you know, he's a million years old Yeah, just wants to make his epic sweeping movies with as little actual, you know landscape or people as possible. Yeah this movie really like loves animals there's just like tons of animals in it like several monkeys and some other things I won't spoil and it's just like at no
Starting point is 00:17:55 point like it was absurd and at no point I thought like well that wouldn't happen I was just like this is great keep going. Yeah he's just like fuck you whenever somebody says that wouldn't happen. It's his attitude and it's just like fuck you whenever somebody says that wouldn't happen his attitude and it's just like It's pretty wild that he is really up there in age and making Not only movies, but that kind of movie like Clint Eastwood is retiring on a movie about a juror You know, it's like takes place entirely in a courtroom, you know, so it's like that seems manageable for an 80 year old You know, so it's like that seems manageable for an 80 year old, you know, but yeah, the pacing felt like it was made by a 35 year old. Like it felt like it understands how 2024 works because like the hour the movie's two hours and 40 minutes and at no point did I check
Starting point is 00:18:34 my phone, which like might be the best compliment. Like it was just fun. I would check my way. Go ahead, Clark. No, I was just going to say you're getting me very excited because I'm going to draft Alma Drafthouse on Thanksgiving and I am seeing Gladiator 2. Hell yeah. Ooh, I wonder if they're going to go special menu. I wonder if they're going to have interesting items that would work for Gladiator and for Thanksgiving. Yeah, I don't know. I'll report back. Sorry to interrupt, but I'm here. You're really getting excited, Gabe.
Starting point is 00:19:06 The water's great. Question for you, Gabe. Do you feel like the sold out element of the show added a bunch to it? Was there like a lot of energy in the theater? There was, but there was also just like, it's Queen. So like people are talking. Like it was not like, like it was also chaos.
Starting point is 00:19:22 But like I was like, I don't care. I miss being 12. Maybe that's what this is about. But like it it was also chaos. But like I was like, I don't care. I miss being 12. Maybe that's what this is about. But like it just felt fun again. We're like a lot of movies I see in an empty theater and it doesn't feel fun. I think, you know, people all going to, you know, it's just a game where everybody watches it, has to say whether it's better or worse than the original.
Starting point is 00:19:41 And I've heard people on both sides, you know, more more on the side of the original was better but also like it's kind of more the same like how much you know you know like it's you got to just embrace what it is I think you know to enjoy it but the Denzel aspect of it really does it really does bring it home for me because I you know I just I've never been not interested in a movie that has Denzel Washington in it. Yeah, it's arguably too good for party plays.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Yeah. Okay. So those are terrific recommendations for people who, I assume misery is on a streaming somewhere, and we know that oddities on Shutter and AM amc plus and we know that gladiator 2 Is that a theater near you and you could probably see it? on a very very very large screen, so Enjoy that is usually a movie is usually not classy and I'm maxi at the same time Usually not classy and I'm maxi at the same time
Starting point is 00:20:53 Although I guess maybe wicked probably took a lot of screens from gladiator because it's making twice as much money Is it really Wow? Yeah, it was like a hundred and twenty two million opening It's like that 112 maybe and gladiator was like 55 which you know 55 for a blockbuster isn't terrible, but It's interesting that wicked just took so much of the oxygen You know and they couldn't really pull off a barb and Heimer like because wicked I was you know because the thing about wicked is is that the the hate for it is as strong as the love for it Whereas people are into gladiator 2 or don't care about it at all You know what I mean, so there's just more conversation about wicked one way or the other
Starting point is 00:21:39 True and Paul Mezcal and Denzel have not been holding each other's hands in all of their press interviews, which I do think they had done like the Cynthia and Ariana approach where they just looked into each other's eyes and told each other how much they loved each other. Yeah. They just cried a little bit while talking about the film instead of just being like tough guys about it. Yeah. Obviously. Because I'm sure it was an emotional experience. I thought you know Denzel came out recently in some interview And he's this is just off the top of his head while he's being here doing a TV interview, but he just goes I
Starting point is 00:22:12 Think I'm gonna retire soon and Interviewers like what the great Denzel Washington retiring like what can we is this your last movie and he goes no I'm gonna do this movie and I'm gonna do this other movie and then So-and-so's writing a movie for me, and I'm gonna be in somebody else's movie, and then I'm gonna do Shakespeare on stage and then I'll retire so he's giving us like a 10-year plan You know it's not gonna come together that quickly and you know so he's not retiring that quickly and you know so he's not retiring he's gonna keep on working and we're lucky to have him we're gonna take a break because i need to i need to settle down i'm all fired
Starting point is 00:22:53 up about denzel's threatening to retire but uh we'll be back after these messages we are We are back. I did my breathing exercises Drank a lot of water and Now we're ready to go our first game. We're gonna play today is something that I call ABCD's nuts now it's not as dirty as it sounds or Hopefully not as dumb as it sounds, but this is a game where I tell you what the word or words of the day are and then the first person that'll be Bo has to name a movie that begins with the first letter of today's phrase that pays if he matches what I've written down ahead of time which would be quite
Starting point is 00:23:43 a miracle on the first turn he wins the game, but then we move on to Clark with the next letter and again Could be any movie that begins with that letter, but if you get it a match with me you win and then it's on to Gabe and then both are Gabe etc until we've spelled so to speak the entire word but here's the most important thing to keep in mind is that there will be a thematic connection between all the answers that I wrote
Starting point is 00:24:20 down So again Those not in the greatest position because he how can he figure out the theme when we? Don't even have one movie out there yet But maybe The words were using will help Because a lot of people are listening to this I would hope like while stuck in traffic trying to get to the mall stuck in traffic trying to get to the mall Because this episode is coming out on Black Friday as it is called even though it's the scariest it doesn't sound friendly or happy or
Starting point is 00:25:01 Something's like that is gonna happen, but maybe it's some people's minds it is because they have to go shopping, but We're spelling Black Friday, so the first letter is B. Bo name any movie that begins with the letter B. OK. It starts with B and just question does this include like articles. So if it's like a the before a movie is it a T word or is that a B word. Great question. Those counties tease. OK. Amazing. Much to the chagrin of many competitors on the show over the years.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Okay. I'm going to start B with Batman. That's a great answer. And it's funny too that there also just recently was the Batman. So it's good that you made that verification. It was a 50-50 right there. But it didn't change the answer, which I love and appreciate. So because you were in such a tough spot, having to come up with it, trying to match me,
Starting point is 00:26:02 I wrote down the four titles. And if you'd have matched any of those I would have given it to you but you did it because I was that would that still would be pretty amazing I wrote down a blue velvet black swan blue Valentine and black dynamite oh Oh, those are good movies. Yeah. So now we move on to Clark with the letter L and that four movies clue as to what the theme might be.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Hmm. What do you got for the letter L? All right. For the letter L, I am going to go with, I mean, I have an L movie, but I'm trying to think of the theme, but I'll go ahead and just say ladybugs. You know, it's funny, I really thought because of your, you know, the horror aspect that you appreciate it so much. I thought you might go long legs. Oh, my long legs. Yes, I do appreciate a long legs.
Starting point is 00:27:12 But that's not what I wrote down. I wrote down legally blonde, red, white, and blue. Good, yes, okay, okay. Mm-hmm. Now we go to Gabe in the letters A, and I would hope you have a fairly strong idea what the theme is Yeah, I I do and I wish I had a better guess for what that was I've I'm gonna I'm gonna say American pie, too
Starting point is 00:27:42 You know if you're gonna have some pie why have just one piece you should have done the marketing that would have really helped I'm sure they were just more direct they're just like hey now there's two flutes but the movie The movie I wrote down for the letter A is Aquamarine. Indeed. The next letter is C. Bo, if you got a movie that begins with the letter C. I feel like I'm just using the most rudimentary words, but I have cats. I've not put together what the theme is,
Starting point is 00:28:24 but that is what's coming to mind I love it. I love cats not not not the movie but But the answer I love it as an answer I would with creature from the black lagoon mmm Mm-hmm Okay is the next letter for Clark. Oh, gosh. Wow. I was prepping for the absolute wrong word.
Starting point is 00:28:53 OK. My letter is K. All right. Yeah. Do you think there's going to be another C like aloe black? I honestly, Doug, I don't know what letter I was spelling or what word I was spelling in my head but it was not anywhere close to what we are discussing. Okay so K, I am going to say, this is not going to play on the theme but Kubo and the two strings. Oh I love it, I love it. But Kubo and the two strings. Oh, I love it. I love it. You stick you put you managed to pull another one with the two in the title
Starting point is 00:29:37 That's not a sequel right there's no one string no or or three strings They just go two strings and done. Yeah This one the Well, I'll just say Kingsman, colon, the golden circle. Nice. Yeah, I mean, I'm telling you, I can't believe that I got through the entire both words Black Friday with each letter and still managed to to have, that fit the theme all the way across. So let's go to F is the next letter for Gabe. I'm going to say Forrest Gump. Oh, there's just the way he came in fast. And obviously, it begins with F. So obviously, anything
Starting point is 00:30:21 you said would have made the sound. But I really thought Really thought you'd figured it out. You were gonna nail it and no it's not force cup. It's fried green tomato But forest is a is a The shade of a kind of green. Yeah, we're getting in there. Yeah, our is the next letter back to bow So I am waiting for the ambulance to pass. Okay, zoom technology. We had no idea an ambulance. Okay, we could come and get you in your home and we wouldn't know it happened.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Okay, I'm trying to be honest. I have no transfer. What this clue is leading to at all. I'm just going to go with our reservation dogs. Great answer. I believe that's a television program. Oh no.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Is it not a movie too? No, it's Television program. Oh, no, is it not a movie too? This is definitely not well I have eliminated myself I've moved mediums Hates TV shows Because we all know what movie you mean you mean you mean Reservoir Dogs. Yeah. Oh, yes, which is a very well-known movie. So once again a Movie that I think I might have had a poster of when I was in college making it even worse That's why I can't I knew what you were you were driving at It's just that but also I any res reservoir dogs mentioned I appreciate I because
Starting point is 00:32:03 That was a great show. But I wrote down Red Dragon. Do you see now this next one is the letter I, Clark. Just just say anything you want, because there's no way in hell that you're going to match what I wrote down. Yeah, I have been thinking about this for the last 65 seconds. 60 seconds. I'm going to I'm going to just do a fun one.
Starting point is 00:32:27 I know who killed me. Yeah, I see that is fun. Isn't that movie like really intense? Well, I think it's a I think no, I think it's I think it's a Lindsay Lohan movie that. Oh, yeah, she had some trouble on and I don't think it turned out very good. Oh, okay I thought I'm mixing it up with a Jessica album of me where there's a lot of Abuse, but anyway, oh no speaking of abuse this answer is horrible If I had to go just to make it fit the theme. I had to get a movie from Indonesia.
Starting point is 00:33:07 You know, it's one of their better movies. As I understand it, it's called Indigo. Yeah. So D is the next letter. We're back to Gabe. He's figured out the theme. I at least have at least have an answer that's in the theme. I did get that far.
Starting point is 00:33:25 OK, I'm going to say what do you got? Deep blue sea. That is the math. You. Yeah, it's all movies that have a color in the title. And to round it out. Can I guess why I was since that was going to be mine? Yeah, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Is it yellow submarine? Of course it is. Somebody has to win this thing. Yep. And A was the clockwork orange. Yeah. See, I don't count that as a C title, because even though that A is an article like Bo asked about.
Starting point is 00:34:08 So congratulations, Gabe. All you won was the opportunity to go first in the next game, but it's a game where the person who goes first, if there is a tiebreaker, you get to go first and then tiebreaker. So it's actually a fairly nice advantage to have. Thanks. Thank you, Sam. That will do that right after this break. We're back. And the game we're going to play today to decide who our winner is, quote, unquote, is a little something I call weird algorithm.
Starting point is 00:34:45 Yay. Yeah, it's Clark's favorite game. And I think, Gabe, you've probably played it before. Sure. I think you have. But that's right. I know you like to pretend and I remember what happens very sneaky sneaky move on the part of
Starting point is 00:35:12 competitor so Here's how it works for for bowing Gabe and to refresh Clark Gabe will go first Then Clark then bow there's three rounds in this game, but in each round Then Clark then bow there's three rounds in this game, but in each round Different person in that order will get to go first and in this game you could share answers if you want to you know strategically Mike could help you could hurt you but You know if you just think that the another person has the right answer You can pick that answer as well, but when I come to you
Starting point is 00:35:49 You have to lock in with whatever Your choice is I am going to say a movie and for that movie I went through the weird algorithm That is on the IMDB where If you type in the name of a movie and then click on the cast list, click on see all, they have a thing on there where you can change the order of the cast list based on their popularity rather than their the billing that they got You know through their agents and stardom In the movie so the algorithm is going to pick out some people that you may not even know we're in these movies so it helps to
Starting point is 00:36:47 You know have an idea who else is in the movie besides the two main stars whose names. I will give you so you can If you think that the algorithm is going to put them up there. I wrote down the top three Performers in each of the films and if you get the number one person in the film According to IMDb you get three points number two is worth two points number three is worth one point and if you name somebody that didn't make the top three in that round you don't get any points starting with you Gabe then go into Clark and then Bo in the first film we're gonna discuss is the Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill gave who in that film do you think is the most popular on the star meter today I mean my my my real
Starting point is 00:37:44 answer is Margot Robbie but my heart tells me and Lebowitz but I'm gonna go I'm gonna go with Margot Robbie okay Lebowitz is like in one scene or something he's the judge yeah yeah okay so I think you know Fran I'm going to try to give anything away, but Fran does not figure into this into the damn. Yeah. So I don't want you to lead Clark or Bo Stray. Clark, who do you think would be number one from that movie today? Well, because I think it now I'm going to go in the opposite direction. However, Gabe, I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:38:36 I think it is also Margot Robbie. OK, so you're both taking Margot Robbie, so you both could get points or not get points, but whatever it is It'll be the same Bo would you like to? Hmm name somebody else or Make this whole first round of wash and agree with them that it would be Margot Robbie and I'm torn I'm pretty sure it's I'm 5050 between what people have said. I'm confident it wouldn't be Matthew McConaughey. I'm thinking of the first and only time of everyone trivia we
Starting point is 00:39:12 won by abstaining to answer the final question. So I'm like... ...absolute only education. It finally works. I'm trying to think if... It does seem like Margot Robbie is more popular than Leonardo DiCaprio right now. But I'm curious if his long staying power would maybe keep him where he's at at the top a little longer. But I think with the Barbie movie, I'm going to agree and go with Margot Robbie and and play the safe the safe game right now
Starting point is 00:39:47 Margot Robbie came in fourth on the star meter No one gets any points Wow is it yeah, was it Leo well tell you Should we just move? Third I go from the third up because Margot Robbie is fourth Or should we just move on? Third, I go from third up because Margot Robbie is fourth. Not worth any points, but then Leo DiCaprio is third. And that would have been worth one point if anybody had just leaned Leo's way. I don't know why he's slightly more, you know, it probably is just slightly more popular than Margo right now, maybe because
Starting point is 00:40:26 He was at you know, wasn't he in the audience at some game recently or something? He did just turn 50 and have a birthday party and we are you're gonna have it. Yeah, that's it Number two was the mentioned and tossed aside that McConaughey. Oh, for real? Wow. That surprises me. I like Matthew McConaughey, but. And number one, who might not have come to mind as the as being in the movie, but is insanely popular right now. And that is Kristen Maloti. Oh, from Penguin is one of the stars of Penguin. And everyone says she's quite good. the the
Starting point is 00:41:05 the the the the the the the the
Starting point is 00:41:22 the the the Like of course he'd leave her for Margot Robbie, but most the time most times when you see Kristen Maloney and something you're like, yeah, she'd give Margot Robbie a run for her money They're both very talented so Let's see what shakes out in the next round when Clark gets to go first then Bo then Gabe and the movie is once upon a time in Hollywood starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt
Starting point is 00:41:51 And Margot Robbie And Margot Robbie and Margot Robbie well of course she's in it and we knew how she fared against The first film Okay For still pretty high up there. So you never you never know. OK, OK. I might. This might be a swing. I might be remembering this incorrectly, too.
Starting point is 00:42:15 So forgive me. But is is Mikey Madsen in Once Upon a Time? Does she play Sadie? I don't answer questions that would lead you to decide what your answer is. Yeah. You just have to commit to it. All right, I'm gonna commit to it. Star of Enora. I'm gonna go for it. I could be totally off base, but I feel like I just looked this up recently and saw it. I would be so happy if everybody went along with you and it turned out that the woman's not even in once by the time I know you. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Guys, again, I'm terrible at this game. That would bring me so much joy, but I'm not gonna say one way or the other if I'm gonna get that joy. Bo, what do you think? Leo was number three for World for Wall Street, so in this other crowd of people in this tarantino movie Do you think he did okay there? Do you think there's somebody else I think he did well But where I'm thrown is I do remember I saw like a meme either on tik-tok or Or Facebook in the last few days about how a lot of the supporting
Starting point is 00:43:27 cast of that movie are like way bigger now. But so there's two people I'm thinking of who I think were in that like Manson family cult. And I can't decide if they would be bigger than the obvious Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio. Um, I think Brad is still to me more famous than Leo, but I think it isn't that recent, but Dune too is a pretty big, pretty big deal. And I'm going to go with Austin Butler. Ooh, very interesting. Gabe, what do you make of all of this?
Starting point is 00:44:09 I love it. I love these. I love the way this game is being played. This one. I'll remember Doug. I'll never forget it. I'm going to say Margaret quality. Maybe that's what I was waking up. Yes. Margaret Qualley is of course in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And that's Gabe's answer and Clark is Mikey Madison. And Bo ended up going with Austin Butler Number five On the list was Leonardo DiCaprio, so he slipped a little bit from his Wolf of Wall Street co-stars
Starting point is 00:44:58 Brad Pitt number four so none of you none of you fell into that particular pit number three another So none of you none of you fell into that particular pit number three another You know small supporting role that gaggle of women out at the spawn ranch Sydney Sweeney Is now of course a big deal and so she was three she's worth one point and then Clark you nailed it Mikey Madison Nora is a number two on the list so you were on the board you have two points and
Starting point is 00:45:35 Gabe really nailed it because Margaret quality is also in the film and she is number one on the list Wow no doubt because of the popularity of what sounds like an extremely horrifying movie she's in called The Substance. Yeah, I just remember her feet being on the dashboard. It's like burned into my brain. And that's why I said that. But honestly, I think Madison's a better poll, to be honest with you. She's in the movie way less.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Well, I got to say, though, that the feed up on the dashboard, I'd say that's almost as gross as anything that I think is going to happen in the substance. So, sorry, Bo. No. Austin Butler, as you heard, did not crack the top spot. That was a great poll, though. I'm actually really surprised. Yeah, I went the wrong way because the two people, I couldn't have said the name, the woman from Enora, I'm blanking out her name again. I wanted to see that movie. I wouldn't
Starting point is 00:46:40 have been able to name her. So the people I was torn between is what I remembered from the meme where like Sydney Sweeney and Austin Butler, and I think I'm learning my lesson of that Movies move on quickly so I think to me it feels like being in the theater for doing too is not too long ago and that was huge and In the the scheme of things the world has moved on a lot has happened the star meter is forever They know and he was also Austin was not only in a good movie that he was good in moved on a lot has happened. The star meter is forever. That they know. And he was also Austin was not only in a good movie that he was good in, um, uh, just didn't get a whole lot of traction, but people who saw it liked it. The bike riders.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Yes. I remember it was like that was recent too. It was just on that the movie theater outside of my place a few months or two ago, even, but alas, good work, everyone. on that the movie theater outside of my place a few months or two ago even but alas good work everyone you have a movie theater close to where you live right on the same block I kind of have that sitcom set up where we're in a little apartment above a sushi joint and a doughnut place and then the movie theater around the corner oh my god I love I love that. That is so, that is so cool.
Starting point is 00:47:47 Um, okay. So, uh, but I'm sure that it's like you, you know, don't see movies there frequently cause it's like, it's so close. You take it for granted. I would like to more. My girlfriend just saw wicked last night and it was kind of nicer. She could leave the theater and we could just I could leave the apartment with the dog and meet her there so it's a very it's a very convenient little setup but good work everyone I'm impressed all right well I don't want to
Starting point is 00:48:16 give people away I give you a location but I want now I want to know what theater it is I'll tell you I'll tell you offline yeah when we're done okay but we got to the picking up his girlfriend from the movie theater downstairs. Okay, so, but that means that Bo gets to go first this round, then Gabe, then Clark, and this is a motion picture that ended up, I believe it was flat out made by Netflix, so then that's where it ended up, the the the the the
Starting point is 00:49:23 the the Once I said, le, le, I was like, I was off. Okay, so Bo, you're up first. Yeah, okay. I'm trying to remember who all is in this movie. I remember the two leads. I think that Timothy Chalamet was maybe like a boyfriend or some love interest in it if my memory is right. Huh, who else would be in it? Not Jennifer Lewis. I think like Ariana Grande maybe sings in it.
Starting point is 00:50:13 What's your final answer? I'm going to go with Ariana Grande. I love it. She's definitely in it. Gabe? She's definitely in it. Gabe. I remember watching this movie on Christmas and God, I'm going to say I'm going to say Meryl Streep.
Starting point is 00:50:37 Oh, nice. And Clark. OK, I've never seen this movie, so I'm going hope Bo was right and I'm gonna say Timothy Chalamet. Oh, okay. That is really an interesting choice and it makes for extremely interesting outcomes today and here's why because Jennifer Lawrence came in six Kate Blanchett came in fifth
Starting point is 00:51:10 Leonardo DiCaprio is fourth and then number three is Charlemagne That's worth one point for Clark and number two is the what Bo was saying, but number one, which you didn't say, Clark, is area. Whoa. So Bo gets three points and the results. It's a tie.
Starting point is 00:51:53 A three way tie. We don't have time today for a tie breaker. So congratulations. We have a triple win today. I could feel it in the energy in the zoom. You're also great. I'm sure that all the listeners are sites that you'll all be back on the program very soon. But let's, let's go ahead and do the alphabetical order and doing our plugs. We'll
Starting point is 00:52:24 start with Bo. What would you like to promote? You can find me on all of the different social media platforms as Bo Johnson comedy Spelled like Bo Jackson the the Bo spelling Bo Johnson comedy and the the main thing I've got live shows I'll promote from there But the biggest thing next year that I would love people to check out if it sounds interesting, is my friend and I have been making a very low budget web series, which is a
Starting point is 00:52:55 embarrassing sentence to say out loud. But I really like what we've made. And it's about two Canadian pickup artists who move to the US to teach Americans how to pick up chicks the Canadian way and I think it's really funny. We got on the news as these guys and had them treat us like real people For one of the episodes and I'm really proud of it And we've no one asked us to make it and we spent like four grand collectively So it'd be nice if a few people watch it so hopefully we'll be done early next year. Right on.
Starting point is 00:53:30 Speaking of raising money for film, Clark has somewhere she'd like you all to go. Yes if you if you can't remember the Indiegogo part you can just follow me at Clark Wolf Clark with an E Wolf with an E on all the platforms. But yes, Indiegogo search Fiends Giving, F-E-I-N-D-S Giving and check out all the different rewards that Sam and I have. I would really love for this to, I would really love for us to cross our goal and I would really love to share the movie making experience with all of you. And the holidays are coming up. So if you think that there's a cinephile in your life who would enjoy this maybe gift them the opportunity to participate. But thank you so much Doug for having me. Yeah. And you know, since you pulled off the three way tie here, you know, you could probably come back again for the because the thing you have sent out the 80 go go that goes until the end of December. for the, because the thing you have sent up, the itty-go-go that goes until the end of December.
Starting point is 00:54:26 Correct, December 31st, all throughout the holiday season. Awesome. Gabe Malik, what would you like to promote? I'm doing a new hour of standup that's sort of, that's turning into a new solo show at the Soho Playhouse on December 12th. And yeah, all new jokes, all new stories that are slowly turning into a theater show, but for now it's just me with a notebook kind of talking.
Starting point is 00:54:49 The show has been very experimental and fun and tickets are on my Instagram at Gabe Malika. Awesome. Um, let's see, what did I want to talk about Saturday? Tomorrow, if this, if you're listening to this on Black Friday I'll be at Bakersfield in Bakersfield at the well comedy club doing a Douglas movies taping at 420 first one there, so I'm excited and
Starting point is 00:55:18 Hoping people in Bakersfield turn out and on January 11th, I'm doing Douglas movies for I don't know, maybe the seventh or eighth time at the Tacoma Comedy Club in Tacoma, Washington. All of my dates are at Doug loves movies.com. Thank you again to, uh, Gabe Malika and Clark Wolf. And, uh, as always, yeah, I like to say that last line of a motion picture in this spot here, and this one's a super short, um, it's for the last line of creature from the black lagoon from 1954, and this is how it goes. No. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie.
Starting point is 00:56:13 Eyes of gold is viewing prowess makes him cocky. There's no room in his heart for you, cause Doug loves movies.
