Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers, screaming baby, sticky seeds with 50 azepop or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see, cause Doug loves movies! Hey, hey, hey everybody! My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug Loves Movies, recording on Super Sunday, February 11th, 2024. And in keeping with the sports theme of the day, all three of my guests today are returning champions. We've got Doug Mellor, Chad Opitz, and Jody Reeves. Happy New Year to all! Woo-hoo! Yeah! Wee! opens and Jody Reeves happy new year to all let's meet everyone individually
Starting point is 00:00:51 and alphabetically by first name sorry Jody he lost under questionable circumstances in Sacramento but went on to win in San Francisco
Starting point is 00:01:09 and will be appearing with me at the Well Comedy Club in Bakersfield California on Saturday February 24th it's Chad Opitz hello Doug hey man how's it going it's going good I had a great time with that sketch fest show with you. Oh, my God. Sketchfest is so much fun. Yes, it is. I can't believe, I mean, you were underdog city on that episode because we had both Jeopardy! champion Amy Schneider and all-around champion in life Jeff Tate on the panel. And two other, two ladies, like you really rose to the occasion. I couldn't believe it.
Starting point is 00:01:51 It was a shocker. But, you know, it was nice to have that happen because you had just had to deal with a controversy on the show that we will discuss in a moment.
Starting point is 00:02:05 But first, also joining us, my co-host from Wide World of Doug's, the podcast, and a recent shocking winner over Zoom, it's Doug Mellard. Hey, Doug. Hey, dude. Two-time shocking winner. Yeah. Do you think you deserve to win either time?
Starting point is 00:02:27 In San Antonio, for sure. I think kind of squeaked by last time, but I feel like I brought my A game in San Antonio. Now, do you have a preference between playing in front of an audience or playing over Zoom? Is one better than the other for the competitor? I think always in front of an audience just because, you know, it gives you that extra little bump of adrenaline that a champion needs. Okay. Well, fortunately, you've all – I'm going to sneeze. Hey.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Whoa. That's the going to sneeze. Oh! That's the old school sneeze. Unfortunately, all three of you have recently experienced the live audience, so you can just imagine it today. Imagine an audience full of people
Starting point is 00:03:19 with allergies, and I'll play that role. And finally joining us today, a woman who convinced a whole room full of people that Michelle Pfeiffer was in Ant-Man 1. It's Jodi Reeves. Hey, Jodi.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Hey. That was an impressive thing you did. Well, I feel like they more convinced themselves than I convinced them. Right. That's what all cult leaders say. Sure. Is that, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:55 I got that charismatic thing down. Yeah. I was, I was, excuse me for being so charismatic that people would believe something as insane as Michelle Pfeiffer being in Ant-Man 1. But, you know, you also had a really clever way of suggesting that she might be in it is through those end title sequence, you know, those post credit scenes. And also, I think also the possibility of her being in a photograph also came up at some point uh so
Starting point is 00:04:27 well done and thank you uh for returning to uh essentially clear your name which i want to spell for the listeners because they may get it wrong if they're trying to write down jody Reeves because it's J-O-D-I-R-I-V-E-S. Yep, looks like Rives. Don't put that in their heads. Don't even suggest it, Jodi. So are you looking forward to a win today or do you want to get back to your normal life? Oh, no, I'm always in it to win right
Starting point is 00:05:05 i'm the oldest child two oldest children uh it competition flows through my veins so okay well i mean it certainly did in sacramento because uh you run roughshod over the competition but um before we play our games today uh as a regular listener to the show, you're probably aware of me trying to squeeze recommendations out of everybody every week for movies to watch. And by the time people listen to this, the Super Bowl will be over. So before I ask you all to recommend a movie in a category of my choosing, let's quickly start with you, Chad. Who do you think is going to win the Super Bowl? I want you to sound really smart like you knew because it hasn't happened yet. But it will be it will be over by the time anybody hears this you know i'm uh you know that's where i
Starting point is 00:06:06 got real good with stand-up comedy that's where i got a bunch of friends who are rooting for him so i gotta go with the san francisco 49ers okay so it's more of a taylor swift more of a more of a wish than a prediction um i'm still i yeah doug i don't know what i'm talking about well i would hope none of us do or sitting around doing movie trivia games on super bowl sunday uh so doug what's what's your pick chiefs for sure yeah and that's mostly because i'm a cowboys fan and the 49ers have the same amount of super bowll rings. So I don't want them to pass Dallas. So, and I like Patrick Mahomes and sure. Taylor Swift is just seems like a nice lady. So let's do it.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Yeah. That's the other thing is I guess by the time people hear this, Travis Kelsey will have a proposed marriage to Taylor Swift right after saying that he's going to the, going to Disney world. So if the chiefs win though, Doug would, the quarterback would be the one that gets the most credit, right?
Starting point is 00:07:24 Yeah. Generally. Yeah. So, so that's on that team, that's Mahomes. Mahomes, yeah. Yeah, so he's the one that's going to say whether or not he's going to Disney World. While he could be upstaged by Kelsey, he could be over on one knee proposing to the most famous woman in the world. Yeah, they should. If they win, just let Kelsey have that spotlight.
Starting point is 00:07:48 It'll be best for everybody. I also have to thank you, Doug, for taking time away from the puppy bowl because that's happening right now. And I know you're probably always watching that every year. Love it. Yeah, my bookie won't take any action on the puppy ball so i i it forced me to stop gambling altogether jody what do you think do you have a favorite in this matchup you of course live in sacramento so do you have a bay area loyalty i live outside of sacramento um
Starting point is 00:08:21 didn't care about football at all when i was in high school and went to every single home game because I was involved in color guard. But I married into a three generation Steelers family. And so that's that if we have a loyalty, that's it. But I right now, I it doesn't matter so much for loyalty for me in that. I think that we have to just look at record and Mahomes is a badass and he has shown up time and time again of doing the work. And we also talk a lot about Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift and all of that stuff, but Travis Kelsey is also a badass and just his record alone is something. So I think just based on the numbers I'm, I'm looking for a chief's victory unless something just unexpected happens.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Right. That's the, that's the beauty of football. One of those two gentlemen you just named could like, you know, sprain an ankle in the first play of the game and then everything changes. But you know, good luck no matter who you're rooting for today, because I know it's important to people. Especially advertisers. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I love the silence after that. That was beautiful. Okay. So you don't get enough of that in today's media where the response is silence. You know, everybody's always anxious to speak and be on camera. And I'm going to go. I announced this earlier today on the Patreon for getting Doug with high because I just wanted to be on the record early today that I think it's going to be the Chiefs and they're going to win by seven.
Starting point is 00:10:12 But that's not what I'm hoping will happen. That's what's going to happen, in my opinion. But what do I know? I just learned the names of some of the players today. So let's jump ahead. Forget about this whole Super Bowl nonsense for now because Valentine's Day is on Wednesday. So for recommendations today, I would like you to please suggest a ROM with or without the com. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:47 It just has to be romantic. It doesn't have to be a comedy because people, people always go right to rom coms just because it's such a fun expression. And there's so many of them that people love to talk about them. But you know, there's also movies that are just, just romantic. So Chad,
Starting point is 00:11:04 what would you recommend for somebody to watch either they're alone and they want to have hope for a relationship in the future or they're with somebody and they're in love what would be a good movie to watch well doug this is definitely not my wheelhouse um i don't think i don't think i don't think robocop falls into that yeah i was gonna damn i'm trying to think of like one that i've genuinely what's the most romantic horror movie i've got one if you don't most romantic horror movie yeah i don't know why this one popped to my mind but have you seen uh have you seen peter jackson's dead alive i have and i can't think of what's that's romantic well there's a whole like
Starting point is 00:11:46 the whole storyline is him starting up this romance with this woman but he you know his his domineering mother won't let him see her so he right that's a huge factor in the whole thing that like he wants to be with this woman and he has to overcome this like horde of zombies to be together with her yeah all i remember is him cleverly using the the big blade on the bottom of the lawnmower yeah yeah to take care of some of those zombies what's your so i'm gonna you know i'm gonna say that i i it's so sad that i literally can't think of a romantic movie but i love it that's a great that's a great answer um i'm gonna save mine until the end because i don't want to i don't want everybody to think they have to pick a horror movie uh doug what do you think is a good romance like what would you want like
Starting point is 00:12:37 to watch with your wife on wednesday uh well the two that jumped in my mind i don't think either like the most like can't wait to watch this with the wife on wednesday but why are you recommending it why you would watch because they're well uh eternal sunshine it's a good movie it's a great movie it's about love at the base but it's kind of a little backwards at times. It's a classic, and it's good in the winter while there's still kind of a winter left. There's probably winter for other people out there, not in Texas here.
Starting point is 00:13:14 The other one I had in mind was the original Popeye, the live-action Popeye. He and Olive Oil have quite a courtship. Pretty juicy. Quite a courtship amongst all's pretty juicy. Yeah. Quite a courtship amongst all the weird bridges and ladders
Starting point is 00:13:29 and stuff in their weird town. That movie, they made that in Malta. Oh, really? Yeah. They just built a set out in Malta. It's like freaking Waterworld or something, that they just had this big old crazy set for for the popeye movie and people probably wouldn't say the set is so is a standout like it's uh it doesn't really i guess it kind of makes it feel like it's all very seafaring
Starting point is 00:13:58 but we're here to talk about eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I agree with you. That's probably not a great movie to watch with somebody on Valentine's, but it might be a good antidote to the concept of Valentine's. So anybody out there that's being a hater on Valentine's, I think we've got two good choices so far. Yeah, there you go. Yeah. And a great soundtrack.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Oh, my God. The music is beautiful for that movie. John Bryan, I think. But like makes you sleepy? That kind of beautiful? I mean, yeah. Good music to have on the background to work or something.
Starting point is 00:14:40 It's like dreamlike. Yeah. I dig it. And polyphonic's free, Beck. It's a good soundtrack. Yeah, it's like dreamlike. Yeah. I dig it. And polyphonic's free, Beck. It's a good soundtrack. Yeah, okay. Sold. Jodi, you've had some time to think about this, and do you have a reasonable answer? I do.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Valentine's Day is my absolute favorite holiday. Absolutely favorite. Even if I am not partnered, it's my favorite because first of all, pink and red together, I'm there. But also because Valentine's Day is a holiday that has nothing to do with your family. Like you don't get in trouble for not going home for Valentine's dinner. And so that that makes it top in my book i love valentine's um but uh what i'm gonna say is my answer is that there have only been five perfect movies that have ever been made and one of them absolutely qualifies in this category and that is moonstruck all right finally somebody reasonable.
Starting point is 00:15:47 I was just watching that movie the other day. And it's so funny and light and and perfect for for Valentine's or for any day. It's brilliant. Every day. I was just watching Moonstruck the other day. Every day I can say that every day is perfect for it because every night there's that moon out there. And I'm always like, that's Cosmo's moon. Exactly. Exactly. All I have to do on social media is just put out, oh, it's Cosmo's moon. And all of my besties will respond of they all know exactly what I'm talking about. Yeah, that's a great one. certainly that's what I
Starting point is 00:16:29 would back that for this particular, but if we're going horror movies that are romantic, I would say I mean, they even fell in love while they're making it, I think. Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis in The Fly. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Wow. Good pick. Yeah. It doesn't really have a happy ending, but, you know. I mean, it is the ultimate barf on something and then say that's gross movie. So it is the perfect movie for that. It really is. The movie is like so Cronenberg and how disgusting it is.
Starting point is 00:17:08 But there's something about Jeff Goldblum and Geeta Davis, how they both deal with everything, you know, until the very end, but he's just full on fly. But, you know, the process is still it's still kind of fun, even though it's disgusting. And they do they do they do love each other and i don't know if she loses interest in him when his uh junk falls off or i don't know exactly what happened but probably when he throws up on his food stuff to eat it that's probably what she checks out uh all right so congratulations to to everybody for making these suggestions. And I need to process for a moment.
Starting point is 00:17:50 So we're going to take a break, and we'll be right back. We are back, and I'm still thinking about watching Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless Mind on Valentine's Day. That's a really interesting move. mind on Valentine's Day. That's a really interesting move. They should probably have a suicide disclaimer at the top of
Starting point is 00:18:12 whichever streamer is showing it. The first game we're going to play today is a new game and I call it Pfeiffer. I don't even know her. I've redeemed myself on this one.
Starting point is 00:18:36 That's what I'm saying. Here's how this works. I'm going to name a movie and you tell me if it's got Michelle Pfeiffer or her sister Dee Dee Pfeiffer or both oh man yes oh god Chad will be up first as usual with these games if he misses then uh Doug gets a shot and if Doug misses on the first one uh Jody will get the gimme point because there will only be one option left. Every time
Starting point is 00:19:07 someone gets one right, the next person in line goes first in the next round. Are you ready, Chad? Yes, sir. Okay, here we go. The first film, Dee Dee, Michelle, or both, Into the night.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Into the night. Okay. I know Michelle is in that one. But is Dee Dee? That is the question. I am going to say just Michelle. You're saying only Michelle is in to the night. Yeah. Not Dee Dee.
Starting point is 00:19:50 Not both. Not both. Incorrect. Oh! I'll go both. I'll go both then. You like both? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:02 After Chad gave away that it couldn't possibly be just Deedee? That is correct. I'm a fool. Yeah, you really... You might have helped Doug out there. I don't know. It's impossible to know. This is how I win.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Yeah, this is how he does it. Now Jody gets to go first on this next one. Are you ready, Jodi? I am. A film called The Hollywood Knights. K-N-I-G-H-T-S. H-O-L. I don't know
Starting point is 00:20:49 so I am going to say Just Dee Dee Just Dee Dee is in The Hollywood Knights Back to you Chad Was it correct? So that was correct? No that noise means wrong i apologize
Starting point is 00:21:08 did you hear it that time no no there's no noise no we hear silence yeah oh i heard it i heard it. I try not to scare the listeners with it. Or you. That was incorrect. It's just Dee Dee. Is it both or just Michelle? Oh, man. I'm going to say Michelle.
Starting point is 00:21:42 You're going just Michelle? Just going just Michelle. Tell me if you can hear this. Whee! Yeah. It is correct. The chat is on the board. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:58 We move on to Doug. Michelle, DeeDee, or both? Frankie, Ampersee, or both? Frankie, Johnny. Frankie and Johnny. Oh, God. I'm going to say
Starting point is 00:22:19 shoot. I'm going to go both. Go both. No both? no both final answer is both yeah hang on i'm so ready i'm so ready with the lose sound. I wanted to make it work right this time. And you got it right. Congratulations. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:50 I didn't even know there was a Dee Dee Pfeiffer. This is how you learn. Not a lot of people do. This is where you come to learn. Yeah, Dee Dee, you know, managed to squeak into both into the night and Frankie and Johnny could DDB in more Michelle Pfeiffer films. We'll have to wait and see Jody. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:14 How about Charlie Chan and the curse of the dragon queen? Oh, again I do not know just Michelle you're going just Michelle as in Charlie Chan and the curse of the dragon queen and you're saying that because it's correct oh yay
Starting point is 00:23:41 at least I didn't get nothing you got it exactly you're on the board always important it's correct. Oh, yay! At least I didn't get nothing. You got it. Exactly. You're on the board. Always important. But Chad's up next. You could tie it up with Doug on this one. We'll see what happens.
Starting point is 00:23:58 The film, Chad, is called Tune In Tomorrow. I've never even heard of this one I'm going to watch it on Valentine's Day Tune in tomorrow I'm going to go Just Dee Dee
Starting point is 00:24:20 Just Dee Dee's in Tune In Tomorrow Yeah Yes! Woo! Just Dee Dee's in Tune In Tomorrow Yeah Yes Woo I do not think Michelle's in that one Because you think maybe you'd have heard of it Yeah That's what I would think
Starting point is 00:24:39 Okay That's reasonable Alright Doug Okay This is for the win If you get this Okay. That's reasonable. All right, Doug. Okay. This is for the win, if you get this. You're the winner. If you don't, Jody and Chad are still in it.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Dangerously close. Oh. Well, I'm just going to keep riding both because it's done me well so far. Let's go with both. No! It only could get you so far, Doug. I guess so. Both just dropped you off unceremoniously.
Starting point is 00:25:28 Damn you, Dee Dee. Jody, you could pull off a three-way tie here if you get this correct. Is it Michelle or Dee Dee that's in a movie called Dangerously Close? Attention. the tension jody oh her thing is off now oh it's back just michelle okay hang on a second oh yeah with the w oh man well which answers left chad i gotta go just
Starting point is 00:26:16 ed you gotta you have to that is correct did it. That was dangerously close. It really was. That was really an exciting finish because we would have had to go to the tiebreaker, which would have been a film called Up Close and Personal. Oh, Lord. Yeah. And that, as it turns out Is yet another both What how many did they do together
Starting point is 00:26:47 They did they did three together And by together I mean you know Dee Dee has a small scene in the movie Somewhere that may or may not even Interact with Michelle's character You know I she Dee Dee has a great part In that movie Falling Down Yes
Starting point is 00:27:01 It's true Whammy Burger Yeah yeah down. Yes. Yeah. Yes, it's true. Whammy Burger, which our employee. Yeah, yeah. Good poll there, Chad. Is everything all right, Jodi? You put us on mute or something? Oh, no, that was entirely
Starting point is 00:27:15 accidental. I did a couple of times because I have to cough, and so I don't want to cough in the microphone, but that one was totally accidental. Oh, okay. I really thought oh no like uh you got disconnected didn't even you don't know what the question was or anything but nope nope i was answering it you were there all right well chad won that game but you know as you know uh that only means that chad gets to go first in our second and final
Starting point is 00:27:44 game today that we will play right after this break. We'll be right back. We are back. Chad, congratulations on winning that last game, but it's only going to get you so far because it just means you have to go first in this next game, which I think this is one of those games
Starting point is 00:28:06 that Sam Levine would be the first to point out that going first is not an advantage at all that'll teach you I know that's what you get for trying and succeeding those are things you should take out of your
Starting point is 00:28:22 repertoire it's an important lesson. But it's true in the world of comedy, I'm afraid, that being a big screw-up is really part of the game. Yeah. But today we're going to play, I don't know how long it's been since we played it, but I've got a special edition set up for everybody. And Chad is going to go first in whose tagline is it anyway?
Starting point is 00:28:56 Super Sunday edition. Whoa. We were just listening to a Christmas version of that yesterday. Oh, my. Yeah. I think it's got that Jerry O'Connell on it. Oh, okay. Sounds like something he would do.
Starting point is 00:29:17 I will tell you a tagline from a motion picture. You get one guess. We take turns. I'm going to flip the order around from that last game. So it's going to go Chad, then Jody, then Doug, then Chad again, like that. But Chad gets to guess first on the first one. Chad gets to guess first on the first one. The person who's gotten the most right after seven of these will win, but a tiebreaker is standing by if we need it.
Starting point is 00:29:56 Are you ready, Chad? Yes, sir. Keep in mind, this is the Super Sunday edition. That's the only clue you get. It's going to be all Christian movies. Leap of faith. I would call that Sucky Sunday Edition, but whatever. Is it multiple choice?
Starting point is 00:30:23 Others will call it Sacrilegious Sunday Edition. There we go. No, you have to just pull it out of thin air except for the potential for you can figure out what the theme is, and that might help. But yeah, this is very difficult, but I'm counting on you to know some of these, Jodi. All right. All right. Do it. If you say so. All right, Chad you say so. All right, Chad.
Starting point is 00:30:46 First up. Play or be played. Play or be played. Yeah. Clue the movie? No. Play or be played. Man.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I just thought of a good title for like, or a good tagline for an end of the world movie. Plague or be plagued. There we go. Plague or be plagued. Play or be plagued. Man. Man.
Starting point is 00:31:24 I'm going to totally get any on any given Sunday. Any given Sunday? Yeah. Is your wild guess? Yes. That is correct. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Just just taking a guess. Yeah. Just going to go for it. Wow. Yeah. Jody, what were you thinking it was? That's what I was going to say. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:31:58 It absolutely was. I had it totally on board. Oh, no. Just like Chad stole my Hector Elizizondo last time he sold this this time sorry doug what were you gonna say man i mean i was gonna guess along that theme but i don't know it makes sense now a little bit but i i had no clue. Thank you, Chad. Thank you. All right, Jody, you're up first on this next one.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Super Sunday edition. The tagline is just three words. Plumbings our game. What? Plumbings Our Game. What? Do you have a guess, Jodi?
Starting point is 00:33:09 It's okay to pass if nothing's coming to you. Oh, okay. I think they ran like a dog grooming thing, but still a fun guess. There is a very memorable poop scene. All right, Doug. I mean, I don't know as far as a theme. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Good Lord, Super Mario Brothers, 1993. Super Mario Brothers from 1993 is your guess?
Starting point is 00:33:48 Yeah. Sorry. That's actually what I was going to guess too. So do you have any other guesses, Chad? Muming is our game. Um, plumbing is our game. Uh,
Starting point is 00:34:07 I'm, uh, Oh, um, God, uh, next Friday. I don't know,
Starting point is 00:34:19 man. That's so hard. That's incorrect. Um, you know, these, I told you these are going to be tough, but I didn't know it would be so tough that someone would say three of the words in this title,
Starting point is 00:34:30 but not all five. Whoa! The Super Mario Brothers movie. Oh! Yeah, the Johnny Legs Bob Hoskins one was called Super Mario Brothers, and the one that's from last year is called Super Mario Brothers movie
Starting point is 00:34:47 and I just want to give a shout out to that movie because I think it should have been nominated for Best Animated Movie by the Oscars and it wasn't. So just throwing that out there.
Starting point is 00:35:04 Wait, so what got the nomination you know five animated movies that weren't the Super Mario Brothers movie yeah Spider-Verse Elemental, Nimona the
Starting point is 00:35:21 Girl in the Heron I think it's called and a fifth one like three out of the five are Heron, I think it's called, and a fifth one. Three out of the five are like foreign films, I think. So yeah, I'm not good at remembering which ones, but anyway. Spider-Verse will probably win it because everybody loves that movie. Okay, so Chad still got one point. And Chad went last on that one, right?
Starting point is 00:35:49 So we start with Jody again. Jody, what movie has the tagline It Arrives? It Arrives. it dumb and dumber bob hoskins mario brothers um um yeah
Starting point is 00:36:23 i don't know arrival I don't know yeah well it's not a bad guess you just have to guess something where something that people would call an it arrives but that's not the right it Doug it that people would call an it arrives, but that's not the right it.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Doug? It? How about it? That'd be wild. It part one or it part two? Part one. Right? Because why would it be arriving in part two?
Starting point is 00:37:01 Yeah. Damn it. Chad? What is it? Part two. Yeah. Damn it. Chad. What is it? It arrives. I'm going to say. The Addams Family movie. You know, I've been pronouncing this wrong.
Starting point is 00:37:17 I apologize, Jodi. It's It Arrives. Before you give the answer, I think I know what it is now once it's dead. Right? Isn't that crazy? How it just jumps into your head when it's too late? But your answer, Chad, was incorrect. And what do you think it is, Jodi?
Starting point is 00:37:39 Super 8. Super 8 is correct. Whoa! I mean, that could almost be any sci-fi movie. It arrives. There tends to be something arriving that causes something to
Starting point is 00:37:56 happen, and then you have a story. All right. So nobody got the point on that one, and we start with Jodi again. So nobody got the point on that one And we start with Jody again For 100,000 people Monday
Starting point is 00:38:14 May never come What Oh my god Right Goodness Oh my god. Right? Goodness. Any guesses, Jodi? No. Supernatural.
Starting point is 00:38:46 TV show, I believe, but at least I think you're on board with the theme. Doug? 2012? That was that guy that makes all those disaster movies, right? Yeah. Emmer right? Yeah. Emmerich.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Yeah, no. Chad. You might not believe this. I knew this one right away. I would think so because it describes it perfectly. Yeah, it's Black Sunday. Yes, that is correct. Black Sunday, Bruce Dern plays the lunatic who figures out,
Starting point is 00:39:33 I'm going to fly the blimp over the Super Bowl. Or is it just a playoff game? I think it's just a playoff game, to be honest. But maybe it's the Super Bowl. But whatever it is. And then he outfits it with a bunch of tiny darts or little pointy things.
Starting point is 00:39:50 Nails. And so he's just going to murder an entire stadium all at once. It's a pretty intense movie. With Robert Shaw. Yeah. Anyway, so congratulations on knowing that weird-ass punchline.
Starting point is 00:40:10 That's my wheelhouse, baby. Yeah, I mean, saying that out loud on Super Bowl Sunday seems really weird to me, you know? For 100,000 people, Monday may never come. Yeah, because people do overdrink. They do drink too much during the Super Bowl. So that statistic seems accurate. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:30 So Chad has got two points. But we're back to you again, Jodi, for this next one. Thanks, Chad. You're welcome. This one's got punctuation in it. The mustache rides, comma, again. What? Jodi? Super bad. Oh. Jody Superbad
Starting point is 00:41:07 oh no Doug they're shit Super Troopers 2 oh listen to you you figured it out
Starting point is 00:41:24 you did it. I couldn't remember if there was one. There is. I thought so. Wow. That was good work. Yeah, good job, Doug. But the bad news is
Starting point is 00:41:40 Chad gets to go first on this next one. Bad news for who? Yeah, I don't think that's good news for me. We'll see. We'll see how this turns out. It's pretty much bad news for everybody except for Chad. Because if he gets this one right,
Starting point is 00:42:03 he's just going to be, you know. But let's start with Jody. Wait, what? Oh, no, I'm sorry. You're right. Chad is first. You're right. What's going on, Doug?
Starting point is 00:42:17 You're up next, Chad. And if you get this right, you win. What I said, and then there were noises of discontent like I was wrong. So I had to go back. I had to retrace my steps to make sure I wasn't screwing something up. Chad.
Starting point is 00:42:30 Yes, sir. You don't mess with the law. The law messes with you. You don't. Man, that could also be super troopers, too. You don't mess with the law. The law messes with you. You don't mess with the law.
Starting point is 00:42:43 The law messes with you. Don't mess with the law. I'll say Super Troopers. The first one? Yeah. Oh my God. That is why I said the thing about the bad news. It's because I felt like Chad would figure that one out.
Starting point is 00:43:10 And now he has what we in the biz call an insurmountable lead. Insurmountable. Oh, that's right. I thought I added an extra syllable. But he wins. Congratulations, Chad. Oh, man. You did it.
Starting point is 00:43:31 You can assume your rightful position as king of movie trivia mountain on this very glorious of days. But, Jody, just to show off. on this very glorious of days. But Jodi, just to show off, I've got one more that I would like to read to you and then you tell me the answer. Are you ready? Okay. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:55 You'll believe a man can fly. Superman. With Christopher Reeve. Superman. Oh, that is correct. Super Reeve with Christopher Reeve. There we go. That's my favorite Michelle Pfeiffer movie.
Starting point is 00:44:10 Yeah. She's great. My dad took me on his motorcycle on a date to go see that movie when I was 12 years old. You know who else I love in that movie? Dee Dee Pfeiffer. So Pfeiffer-ific. so fiferific um but uh yeah congratulations again to uh to chad for for taking it down um what would you like to promote what have you got to uh plug chad uh well i'll be loading up a blimp with some nails here in about an hour. No. 100,000 people will never see Monday.
Starting point is 00:44:47 I guess you already promoted it, Doug. I'm doing The Well in Bakersfield with you on February 24th. Yeah, that's going to be super fun. Every comic I know plays at clubs and is in a great time. So looking forward to that.
Starting point is 00:45:03 We'll have you back soon. Do you think the time will be different, but maybe next Sunday you might be available? Yeah. All right. I can do that. Keep this winning streak going, possibly. We'll see. I'll double check with you on that live and in person.
Starting point is 00:45:23 Doug Mellard, what would you like to promote? Find me on Instagram at Doug Mellard. And if you're in Austin, Texas, next weekend, February, Friday the 16th, or yeah, 16th through the 18th, I'll be opening for Tim Meadows
Starting point is 00:45:39 at Cap City Comedy Club. Come on, check it out. I'm so excited for that. Yeah. i love that you're excited for me for it have you seen the new mean girls i'm not i want to watch it before uh for sure because he's in it again as the same character and uh i just wonder how many of his lines i know he's got some lines are different uh than the first movie it's the weirdest because it's not, I know he's got some lines are different than the first movie. It's the weirdest because it's not a reboot, it's not a sequel,
Starting point is 00:46:10 but it is a musical. It's weird. Tina Fey is back too. Yeah. They're back playing the same characters, kind of going through the same, but the story is kind of the same. So it's almost like an alternate universe. It is. It's very much like that.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Did Tina Fey also write this one as well yes i think the music oh wow yeah i think it's kind of you know in a way it's sort of like how anchorman 2 was sort of like almost like just watching a series of lines that didn't make it in anchorman 1 um you know it felt like that i don't know if that's true at all but jody reeves another excellent appearance on the show um thank you for taking the time to join us what would you have anything you'd like to promote yeah you can find me um in the uh class schedule for a local community college near you teaching communication classes. And also I want to promote everybody
Starting point is 00:47:10 getting educated and voting. Anyone who's listening. I love that. That's a terrific plug. I might take it for future episodes. Everybody listen. Go out and vote. But also educate first. I'm am, I'm like happy to
Starting point is 00:47:26 come back anytime you let me know and I'll be back. And again, like I said, there's two of us that anytime could come back and, and. Oh yeah. Before the show you mentioned, cause it's your husband. He's the like more of a super fan than you. And I'll tell you this guy, super integrity,, because I told him if you're going to be down here with me because I have a Zoom set up in my basement for teaching classes. So if you're going to be down here with me, you cannot help me no matter what, no matter what. Even if I beg you, you cannot help me. And and and so I did not, in fact, ask him. And so I did not, in fact, ask him, but he was sitting over here and knew every answer every time and was dying because he had to help me and he didn't. So, well, I love the restraint there because it is it is exciting. I feel like he probably did no answer to.
Starting point is 00:48:24 Yeah, I appreciate. Yeah, exactly. I feel like he probably did no answer to. Big DD5 stand. Yeah, I appreciate. Yeah, exactly. Doug plugs. I'm going to be back with Doug Loves Movies at the Improv Lab at the Hollywood Improv on February 20th at 730. We've got two terrific guests lined up so far. Marcia Kasher and Guy Branum. And a third to be
Starting point is 00:48:45 determined. And then as mentioned before, The Well in Bakersfield for stand-up comedy. The chat opens on February 24th. And then I'm going to be in Vegas March 1st and 2nd at the Jimmy Kimmel Comedy Club
Starting point is 00:49:01 at The Link. The L-I-N-Q. That big you can find it just walking down the strip and looking for the Ferris wheel. Go to DougLovesMovies.com for all of my dates and deets. And I came up with a tiebreaker in case we had a tie today. And I figure we might as well play it just for fun since we have an extra minute here at the end of the show. So whose turn was it next in that game we were playing? When Chad won, it would be Jody's turn next, and then Doug, and then Chad.
Starting point is 00:49:41 So Jody, we'll let you guess first. Okay. Doug and then Chad. So Jody, we'll let you guess first. Okay. Which is the longest of these three movies? And then, you know, Doug will have to pick from the remaining two and Chad will just get whatever's left over.
Starting point is 00:49:56 We'll just see how lucky Chad is in general. Jody, which movie do you think is the longest? Super Troopers, Super Troopers 2, or the movie that James Gunn made that's merely called Super? Which one has the longest running time? I'm going to say Super Troopers 2. Okay. Doug, what do you think between the Super Troopers 2. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Doug, what do you think between the original Super Troops and the very disturbing superhero movie that James Gunn made with Rainn Wilson? I'll go super. Our friend Steve Agee says the C word in that movie.
Starting point is 00:50:46 That's how edgy that movie is. Okay, and then so that leaves Super Troopers for Chad Opitz, who I never said this out loud before, but might be the luckiest person I know. Because that is the correct answer oh my god yeah it's real close there's like um you know uh super troopers 2 or the movie super is 1 hour and 36 minutes long super troopers 2 is 1 hour 39 minutes long and then the original super troopers is a whole hour and 40 minutes wow
Starting point is 00:51:35 so yeah real tight race there just a five minute spread between the first and third. But still, Chad, I'm just impressed. I don't know how you do it. Hey, that was all skill there. Yeah. Nice. Yeah, you just knew how to sit back and wait for the wind to come to you. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:51:58 You weren't too eager about it. So every episode of the show, I've been ending with a uh you know a last line from a motion picture and i try to pick something that is somewhat uh you know relevant to the uh the episode at hand and um does anybody remember the the plot of the mich Pfeiffer, Jeff Goldblum vehicle into the night? A little bit. Yeah? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:52:29 How would you describe it? Like a paper, like a chase movie kind of. Yeah. Romantic chase movie. Kind of intense a little bit, but like violent. A little bit. It's kind of a thriller comedy. Is there poison involved? i don't remember poison i just remember i think a lot of people get shot i think it's got a strangely high body count
Starting point is 00:52:54 a lot of weird director cameos in it yeah well that's john landis the director was really in his like he loved having other directors play speaking roles in his movies. And it got, like, that was, I think, one of the first ones where he did quite a bit of that. And then some of his next movies are just chock full of famous directors. It's an interesting choice. But, yeah, basically, I think, like, Jeff Goldblumblum's kind of you know a little schlubby at the beginning you know he's supposed to be kind of nerdy and then he meets this uh devil may care
Starting point is 00:53:33 free spirit played by michelle pfeiffer who like does things like just changes her clothes right in front of him and stuff like that and he's just sort of like and but she's in trouble for doing she's got an ex-boyfriend that's terrible or something and so she's in trouble with some people and there's I think espionage and drugs and you know I think Chad you did a pretty good job of describing
Starting point is 00:53:58 it but I'm going to use the last line from that movie as the closing line today. Thank you again to Jody Reeves, Doug Mellard, and Chad Opitz, who we'll see everybody back
Starting point is 00:54:14 eventually, but Chad very soon. As always, can I have a ride to the airport? Ha ha! Can I have a ride to the airport?
