Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers, screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as a pop or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see. Because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies recording on Halloween 2024 but you're listening to this on Friday November 1 or after so don't forget to pay the rent and
Starting point is 00:00:36 To vote on whether or not you should have to pay rent my guests today are Ethan burger Amy Miller and Gabe Malika. Hello, everybody. Hi, Doug. Right. What a way to start the show. Yeah, I guess it's not the best thing to remind people about their fiduciary responsibilities, but let's meet all of my guests individually and alphabetically by first name as I do she is back after a big win at the
Starting point is 00:01:15 improv in LA it's comedian Amy Miller hey Amy hey Doug how's it going? It's going pretty good. It's uh, you know, I've had a nice Halloween thus far I'm wearing my costume right now Are you really? Mm-hmm What is it? Jiminy click Not dressed up yet, it's only noon, But what are you going to be dressed up as later? I'm actually going to be in a couple's costume as Wayne and Garth. Oh, OK.
Starting point is 00:01:53 I thought you were going to still say Jiminy Glick, because that could be two people. Two Jiminy Glicks. Two people. No, we're going to be Wayne and Garth, and then we're going to trade outfits midway through the night That's fun because those characters have such subtle differences that you can really be a really good acting exercise for you How was your scary movie months like did you see anything good this last month that scared you? It was good.
Starting point is 00:02:25 And I saw some older stuff that didn't scare me. And then I wish I had watched it sooner because it's not scary. It's very stupid. But yeah, I kept a list. Some scary TV shows as well. I think I did pretty good. I still, there's still a couple left to watch.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Might bleed into November a little bit because I watched pearl and now I have to watch Maxine and the other one Wait, you watch the second one first. I Thought it was the first one. What do you say? I? Thought I was going in the right order I Thought I was going right order I You know what I I've seen two out of the three of them, and I you know between you and me now one's probably listening there's a
Starting point is 00:03:13 It doesn't matter what order you watch them in oh Okay, I don't think I think it's just kind of it's sort of interesting that they all take place at different times and You know have a similar element to them, but they are stylish stylistically and Story-wise they're all you know fairly different from each other Yeah, okay good to know yeah secret watching whenever did you like the one you watch? Yeah, I thought pro was really good. There were a couple super scary moments, but I mean I was really brave anybody you speak to will tell you
Starting point is 00:03:49 a different one is their favorite. Like it's really polarizing which one people think is the best of the three. You know, it's not like the first three Star Wars where everyone's like Empire Strikes Back unless they're lunatic. Well, I don't listen to people, Doug. And you know that.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Well, he is the director of a film that's in theaters now called The Line. First time guest on the show, Ethan Berger. Hello, Ethan. Hello, Doug. It's so nice to be on. Thanks so much for having me. How you doing? It's my pleasure having you on the thanks so much for having me. How you doing?
Starting point is 00:04:29 It's my pleasure having you on the show tell us about your movie well my movie is about a young guy who's a sophomore in college who idealizes his Fraternity as kind of the family he's always wanted and gets caught in between a war that unfolds between his best friend and roommate of one year and a pledge who's trying to join the fraternity who won't conform or do any of the things that you're supposed to do to earn acceptance or your place.
Starting point is 00:05:08 And it's about kind of the lead character, Tom, getting caught in between this war and then questioning whether or not he even wants to be a part of the fraternity in the first place. Uh, uh, and yeah, it's kind of about, um, you know, what happens when your sense of loyalty and morality are at odds, I suppose. Whoa, sounds, sounds timely. Alex Wolf is the, uh, plays that character, correct? Yeah, Alex Wolf. He's great. He's amazing. I loved him in, uh, in, uh was great. He's amazing. He's I loved him in in Pig.
Starting point is 00:05:48 In Pig, what about in a hereditary? Oh, my God. Yeah, I mean, dude's got a good resume. My question to you, Ethan Berger, is how crazy is the timing that you have a movie out as The same time as this guy that directed conclave Edward Berger I Mean listen could be a problem I Think yeah, you might be like you know maybe some people get you know confused and watch your movie
Starting point is 00:06:23 I Think it just might be a moment for burgers Yeah, it's burger time as they say in the world of video games With all right. Well, thank you for being here and happy to have you and we've got another champion Here on the show today to defend his title. It's Gabe Malika. Hey, Doug, I want to thank you for helping me promote our screening of Rat Race with the screenwriter, Andy Breckman. It was a huge success.
Starting point is 00:06:54 We're going to try to do it again for the 25th anniversary in about a year. That is hilarious. Isn't that hilarious? Try to do it again. I thought you might get an audience to come see a different movie, but no, no. Keep going with the rat race all the time. Keep rat racing. There's no reason to stop.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Well, you know, please keep me apprised of that repeat screening or anything else that you have going on movie wise, because that sounded like a lot of fun and did look like a huge success What's going on with your solo show solo? I'm still traveling around. I'm in Penn State next weekend I'm in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in November and We're trying to figure out you know the best way to release it as a special but still touring it for now Has it been filmed already? No not yet. We're I think I'm going to do it in New York in the winter. Oh, OK.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Well, definitely keep us posted about that, because that's a great thing about a lot of live shows these days is that, you know, if you can't make it out to see in person, which is the number one priority, if you can't do that, then of course, I love that it's being you know captured for a special yeah it's like my own little movie yeah that's awesome thanks thank you all for being here but before our competition begins today I'd like to get some wrecks could each of you I know we recommended scary movies on last month, but now it's officially November And there's no such thing as November movies
Starting point is 00:08:31 I Mean there are some Thanksgiving movies, but I I can't be really into recommending any of them But if you could just recommend any movie right now What would you recommend, Amy? I saw a Nora in the theater. Love it. I was really excited to just see a movie that I thought might be good. Just that alone was very, very thrilling.
Starting point is 00:09:00 I love Sean Baker. I think he's becoming like one of my top top favorites. Like, I truly love all of his movies so far. Yeah, he's not only a great filmmaker, but also just, you know, really a champion of, you know, making films about people on the, you know, outskirts or, you know, that normally aren't the focus of a film and in the case of an aura it's a story of a stripper who gets I
Starting point is 00:09:33 Dare say you know if you want to tell people like going to give you an idea of the tone of an aura It's sort of like a Sean Baker movie meets Uncut gems yeah, I was thinking his other movies are a little bit less frantic, but it makes sense because it's in New York and Jersey and stuff. So it suits everything. But I do like more of the quiet in his other movies. Yeah, it's very Safdie-esque, but it was still very fun.
Starting point is 00:10:04 And I don't even know fun's the right word But I really liked it No, you just never know where it's going and you're not like I don't care where this is good You know you don't lose interest because you don't know where it's going you were like the whole time it's like it's very much like a movie version of a Nightmare you wake up from it's not really a scary nightmare as much as it's just a frustrating nightmare because it's like trying to accomplish something and not being able to Make it happen Totally. Yeah, and he cast so many interesting actors that are you know fairly unknown
Starting point is 00:10:38 But I think he uses a lot of regular people too that aren't professional actors and it's it's just I don't know I just love I just love what he's up to Keep at it, Johnny You're going to alright I mean, I don't think he will but there's a chance cuz he is I you know I've often asked him to be a guest on the show, and he's always when he's got a movie coming out He's doing you know lots of you know quote-unquote real interviews you know Like people don't put this as high up on the list as they should now
Starting point is 00:11:17 Ethan Berger has very smart publicist who knows who knows what podcast is putting butts in the seats Ethan what would you like to recommend? I'm going to recommend Live Flesh by Pedro Almodovar. Nice. Yeah. Like, how many movies ago for him was Live Flesh? It was many movies ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:44 He's got another one that's about to come out right? Yeah, so it seems timely I think it's underappreciated It stars Javier Bardem I Think it's during this stretch in which he makes like ten amazing movies in a row and I Would like it to be seen more. Almodovar is kind of like, would you say he's like,
Starting point is 00:12:10 you know, people say comics, comic about a comedian and all the other comics like. Do you think he's like a filmmaker's filmmaker? Definitely. Definitely. I feel like he, I mean, he's prolific. And I'm inspired by him. I think that he has been making movies for like, for like, you know, $4 million forever. And they're always good. the are happy to work with him again. Yeah, and I feel like also like, you know, I've never been to Spain, but I kind of like in my head, it exists like Madrid exists as one of his movies.
Starting point is 00:13:15 And I feel like he like, I mean, I don't know, he's all his movies also are both like personal but managed to say I feel like profound things and are emotive and make me feel a certain way. Live Flesh from 20 to that I don't know the year. 1997. Oh, 97. Okay. Great recommendation. 22,000 I don't know the year I Oh 97 okay Great recommendation Gabe I Don't know how you're gonna follow these first two you could probably say some nonsense. They has like will be Goldberg in it
Starting point is 00:13:57 Well, you know, it's crazy. I have a G first name. So I'm used to going first This is like going going third thing is new for me. It's very it's rare Shake things up with this alphabet thing. Yeah it's crazy you never know what you're gonna get on the show. I went with my girlfriend she's not as big of a movie watcher as I am and she wanted to go to the movies in the afternoon which delighted me and we went to see the wild robot, which I'm sure people are recommending. And it was just like so much better than it needed to be. I loved it so much.
Starting point is 00:14:29 It could have been more half-assed. Absolutely. Absolutely. I was like, this is 40 percent better than like they could have gotten away with. People love to get on like an iron giant high horse and claim that that's better. Like, where do you stand on that comparison? Oh horse and claim that that's better. Like, where do you stand on that comparison? Oh, I thought this was much better.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Personally, I mean, I did cry a few times. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And as the storyteller in the relationship, she said there's a line in the movie that's like storytelling is lying adjacent. And my girlfriend like hit me. She was like, that line in the movie. That's like storytelling is lying adjacent and my girlfriend like hit me She was like that's what you do Relationship with this movie because it saved your your doomed Relationship with your girlfriend. Yeah, exactly She finally found something this you wanted to see in the afternoon.
Starting point is 00:15:27 You go to a lot of you go to a lot of matinees like by yourself. Yeah, that's her not being as into it. Yeah. And like she works in live theater. So I think the idea of working all day in a theater and then going into one like she doesn't love. But I'm happy to do it. A bunch of seats like seats.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Are you? He's like a seat. So many. Is there is she as she affiliated with this specific live theater production right now? Yeah, she's on. She's a stage manager for the Funny Girl Tour. Cool. Oh, neat. Yeah, you actually went to her show.
Starting point is 00:16:05 I saw. I went and saw it in the office in and out now, Los Angeles. Yeah. And that lady that's doing that took the part over from Lea Michelle and. And what's her name? She's terrific. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Kat. Yeah, she's terrific yeah yeah yeah yeah cat yeah she's amazing um all right but the wild robot
Starting point is 00:16:32 probably also already out streaming right like i feel like it's been in theaters for a few weeks and then they don't stay they don't stick with that formula for very long these days yeah i think it's available now. Yeah, I think it is. I feel like you and I have a different relationship to that movie because Big Brother kept trying to shove it up our asses. And I didn't want to see it because I feel like I saw the whole thing on the show. Yeah, the Big Brother reality show like made a special prize for the people that are trapped in the house.
Starting point is 00:17:06 So like three of them got to have like a screening of the the wild robot on there, you know, on a dumb TV in the house. So they just showed it to us. They just showed us the movie. Basically, that is so funny because the camera on the camera on the whole time. Amy, no, just even in that episode, like, Because the camera on the cams are on the whole time, Amy. No, just even in that episode, like, oh, it's so much of it. Yeah. So they should have done a rat race screening. That would have been much more appropriate. I mean, if I was stuck in the Big Brother house and like one week from getting out, they fucking showed rat race.
Starting point is 00:17:42 I would lose my mind. They wheel it in like a substitute teacher AV kid Yeah, that's practically what they did with wild robots I'm sure they cut off the live cams while I was showing cuz that would be so funny to just see live robot In its entirety through the eyes of the three house Someone at home is filming their own TV Entirely through the eyes of the three house Well these are these are terrific recommendations, I haven't seen wild robot yet, but it's definitely in my
Starting point is 00:18:20 mental cue of Things to see I've sadly Fallen off a little bit when it comes to things that are animated I've got this kind of grumpy old man attitude about about I Don't want to go watch it with the kids So I have to watch it either at night or when it comes to home and by the time it comes home like I haven't seen some of the most acclaimed animated movies in the last year or so, just because I, it's just so hard to prioritize them because also they're like kind of instant classics, a lot of them. So you just sort of feel like, oh, I can watch that whenever like the wild robots not going away anytime soon, you know.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Sure. But I still always push for people to go see things in theaters, especially a movie called The Line That is in cinemas now Not not too far from where I live. It's playing at the the Sunset 5 Yeah, so There you go. So there's that's where you can go see it Amy and then you will report back to us on social media Because again, I really I have to see it because I you know not only does it sound interesting, but Alex Wolfe really is a Terrific actor so thanks for all those racks everybody. We're going to you know take a moment to think about
Starting point is 00:19:46 You know what we've discussed here think about our choices and we'll be right back We are back and the first game we're gonna play today is Something that I call the little search engine that could the last time Amy was on the show we played this game and It turned out that Chad Opitz was right about something that I was wrong about So we'll try to get Chad back on the show sometime soon. I don't think it affected the outcome necessarily, but I still Feel bad that He was right and I was wrong
Starting point is 00:20:25 I still feel bad that he was right and I was wrong. Sometimes I write things down, Ron. You know, I'm a one man game show over here. He's going to love it though. Yeah, no, he was hyped. So today, here's how this game works. Today, I typed a word into the search engine on the internet movie database IMDB. And then I wrote down the top nine titles
Starting point is 00:20:48 according to their popularity index. That's, you know, movies that people are looking for right now that have that word in the title. So the three of you are gonna take turns. You get three guesses each, but we're gonna take turns guessing over three rounds starting with Amy and then going to Ethan and then to Gabe and you just have to name movies that have this word in the title if the movie's number one on the list it gets nine points for you if it's number nine on the list it
Starting point is 00:21:21 just gets one point but that still could be helpful and the person with the most points after three rounds is our winner. Amy? Yes. The word movies with this word in the title black. Okay. I'll give you a second to think about it while I sing a song There are once what no I don't have a song to sing Okay, what do you got men in black men in black seems like it should absolutely be on a list of It seems like it should absolutely be on a list of movies with the word black in the title and yet somehow it is not. Oh no. That's outrageous.
Starting point is 00:22:11 It did not make the list. It's not one of the top nine movies with black in the title that are being searched today. That's crazy. I know. It doesn't make any sense at all, especially because you know people are Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are still out there doing things But they're just not doing enough Well, I will need to slap a few more comedians
Starting point is 00:22:42 They could raise a lot of money if they did a show like a night of a hundred slaps and it's just a comedian Says something city to Will Smith and then he slaps them I'll let him hit me. You know, maybe maybe we could wear maybe you could wear like fit like some sort of face gear like something some protective gear but Or you can give a little kiss after Okay Ethan let's see if you can get some points on the board. Give me a movie that's popular
Starting point is 00:23:17 Today that has the word black in the title black Hawk down Whoa? Right everybody loves war and war movies about- Burnett's bag. Nope. Who doesn't love a spoiler right there in the title, Black Hawk Down? We know what's gonna happen. It's not gonna stay up. Number six on the list! list well on the board with four points great congratulations Excited
Starting point is 00:23:52 I Dare say because I have mixed feelings about his overall work as a director but Because this was a Ridley right it was a Ridley Scott the Ridley Scott. Yeah, I like I like it. I remember the theaters and yeah, I feel like he probably made it right after Gladiator, right? I think so, yeah. Yeah. And people are just like, it's
Starting point is 00:24:36 so much more fun to watch like Gladiators murder each other than soldiers. You know, because it's more there's more of the fantasy element to it. Strange. Yeah, this could never be me. I wouldn't wear a skirt.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Uh, all right. So, uh, let's go to Gabe. What do you got? What do you, you know, I'm thinking about the masses, what the masses are typing into IMDB. What? Maybe like Black Panther. Oh. Very popular movie.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Yeah. Black Panther and a great actor we lost, who played the character Black Panther. So yes, people are still looking it up and it is number four on the list. Okay. Congratulations. You've taken the lead with six points, but it's still anybody's game.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Amy. I don't know how you laughed after that. The black swan. Ooh, very nice. Now what did you call it? The black swan. What is that? Is that a vowel or an R? What are you saying?
Starting point is 00:25:57 You can't hear what I'm saying? Uh-uh. Black swan. There, that's the answer. It's just black swan. There's no words in front of it. the the the the the the the
Starting point is 00:26:14 the the the the the the the the What do you think, Ethan? Well, I'm not feeling confident, but I'm going with black doll, yeah. You know what? I wish I could give you bonus points
Starting point is 00:26:51 for your lack of confidence, because your gut was right. It is not on the list. But you deserve, you know, there should be some recognition for somebody that's like, well. It's not gonna be on there, but here's Cuz you were right in a sense while being while being wrong at the same time Okay, so But you still have four points you still in this
Starting point is 00:27:21 Let's see what Gabe's got to say In this let's see what Gabe's got to say It is funny to imagine a world in which more people saw black swan than black panther that just doesn't seem to be this universe But certainly the IMDB users are a selective group I'm going with another movie. I Think black swan could be getting a little extra juice right now because people want to You know, it's kind of a lazy costume to do something for Black Swan. So they're looking it up to be like, okay, I guess I gotta wear a tutu and then put some blood on my face. And then another reason is I just think that Natalie Portman is endlessly,
Starting point is 00:28:04 people are endlessly searching out anything Natalie Portman is endlessly. People are endlessly searching out. Anything Natalie Portman? Yeah, I do like watching her and stuff. Yeah, so I feel like that's why it's doing well right now, but it's, you know, in a competition of, you know, movies with specifically with black in the title. So what's your next guest? I'm going black widow another Marvel you know what it is number three on the list okay
Starting point is 00:28:33 when yes Marvel movies have been more points reason this is like the World Series that just ended is very exciting it's still in New York this is not gonna end well for me at this point I love it so Amy got a dig down deep here all right we need you to come up with Gabe has currently has 13 points so you need something that's worth you know more than six point six points or more so you know that number one I doubt it's gonna be even on the list but then you said the Halloween thing and now okay um I want to say the black cauldron oh that's a really interesting pole Old ass Disney animated movie that
Starting point is 00:29:36 Fell through the cracks when it came out because it was like you're trying to promote it as being a bit more adult than your Typical Disney cartoon and people are like we're okay with Disney art cartoons being for kids So I'm sorry say did not make the list. Amy. Oh, that's all right. You still get to participate in our second game and that's usually where you really shine. Ethan, what do you think? You got a, you got a popular movie with the word black in title meet the blacks was that a like a parody of meet the parents yeah it's a horror movie I think oh no I think that was called I know what you're talking about, The Blackness?
Starting point is 00:30:25 No. Oh, okay. So a different kind of satirical horror movie? Yeah, I don't even know. No, I think I remember that movie from a few years ago. Yeah. Yeah. Some comedians in it, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Yeah, you know, I don't want to guess because this could be inappropriate, but slippery slope there. Well, yeah, exactly. But maybe maybe Mike Epps. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, that sounds like Mike. It seems like a reasonable guess. OK. He's in so many things. Also, that guy's always working. Yeah. He plays in so many things also. That guy's always working.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Yeah. He plays Doug in the hangover movies. So Ethan is I'm sorry to say not. It's not on the list. So now, Gabe, not only is our winner of the game already, but he has a chance to put some assault in the wounds of my other guests with one more answer Okay, well, I don't know if you know this Doug, but when I was growing my dad worked in horse racing So I just I know things about horses, which is a random part of my life, but black beauty is black beauty on the list
Starting point is 00:31:37 I love this setup that you know about black beauty because of a personal situation like the rest of us. We know all the horse movies. I love the backstory. I feel like I'm really getting to know you. I'm doing panel right now. What are your top three movies that have horses in them? Since you're an expert on horse horses slash movies.
Starting point is 00:32:04 We like Seabiscuit a lot. As a family. We yeah, we were in Saratoga when it came out and like it was like a big deal. That's a big one. Honestly, now that I think about it, it's more gambling movies. Oh, so like Let It Ride takes a lot of the racetrack. Yeah, yeah, Let It Ride was-thumbed at the Malik as Probably black beauty also. All right
Starting point is 00:32:35 I'm sorry. That wasn't more fruitful for you When you find out the end results of this thing it's absolutely ridiculous because Black Beauty did not make the list but also the timing of this was very I geared this to this specific episode because it's weird to do a show on Halloween That's gonna be listened to post Halloween because there's no reason to get into Halloween stuff
Starting point is 00:33:05 because people should be over it. But with the word black, I was just stunned when I found out that like in the top 20 or 30 titles with the word black in the title, only a few of them are horror movies. But, you know, lots of horror movies have had that word in the title. So I thought it was a fun transition the the It's the Amy Winehouse movie back to black. Oh, yeah
Starting point is 00:34:11 People are looking that up right now to see where they could find it number seven the mobster saw go with Mr.. Johnnison Depp black mass Yeah And then number Six is blackout countdown and number five the only true horror movie on the list the black phone from Like a year or two ago, I guess with Ethan Hawke and
Starting point is 00:34:40 then Yeah, we had And then Yeah, we had Black panther black widow black swan and then this is where this game can be Totally screw people over because there's no way anybody was gonna say this movie Apparently there's a film starring Kate beck and sale it just came out like in the last Year or so or maybe even about to come out Called canary black yeah
Starting point is 00:35:08 everybody's that's what people are typing in IMDB after they type in what is their typing in is canary black what is in that movie what is it I saw the second-built person and to be honest with you? It's not someone I'm familiar with So I didn't even write it down, but Everybody Davidson's exes are in this movie Just you know after you've watched the line and an aura and wild robot in that order Then go ahead and look up Canary Black and see what the hell's going on with that.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Congratulations, Gabe, you won that game, but as everybody that knows that has participated in the show or listened to it, there's one more game to play. And all you won, Gabe, was the opportunity or the problem of having to go first in our next game. And we'll play that game right after this break.
Starting point is 00:36:12 We'll be right back. We are back and the game we're gonna play to determine it all today, to determine which person comes back on the show sooner than the other people who are absolutely invited to come back whenever they want to? It's a game that I call weird algorithm in this game I again take to the IMDB and I
Starting point is 00:36:41 type in the title of a motion picture and I type in the title of a motion picture and then with every movie and TV show on IMDB you could take the cast Listing which they list according to You know billing They also have the option to refine the listing to Popularity so similar to the last game you your guesses have to be what you think is popular today.
Starting point is 00:37:10 I'll name a movie and I'll tell you the two top build stars in the movie. Then your job is figure out is either those people or someone else that you remember from the cast would be ranked the highest today. For each movie, you'll each get one guess, and you have to, when the search run, you have to lock in your answer. I'll change the order up so that each of you gets to go first in one round. And it's three points for the number one name, two points for number
Starting point is 00:37:47 two and one point for number three. Since Gabe won that last game, he's going to go first and then we'll go to Ethan and then Amy. Are you ready, Gabe? Yes, I'm going to be naming an actor in this movie. You're going to name the person that you think is the top person according to the popularity index on IMDB from the film. It may or may not be one of the two names that I give you to start you off. The idea is that if you can remember other people that were in the film, that could be helpful, but also it could be worth points to just name one of the ones I tell you.
Starting point is 00:38:32 Sure, sure. Don't want to get too cute. Yeah. I used to let people change up their answers as we went along, but people were like, you should make people lock their answers in, especially since each of you gets to go first for different rounds. So everybody sort of is on equal footing so Gabe tell me who do you think is? the number one build person in the animated classic Finding Dory Starring Ellen Degeneres and Albert Brooks
Starting point is 00:39:04 Okay I'm going to say Ellen DeGeneres. Okay. Let's go. I'm going to say Ellen DeGeneres. I'm going to say Ellen DeGeneres. I'm going to say Ellen DeGeneres. I'm going to say Ellen DeGeneres. Okay. Uh, let's go there.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Let's go to Ethan. Uh, am I allowed to say Ellen DeGeneres? Yes. You could share answers. You just have to commit to one, whoever it is you want to do. And, and what I have an option of, of, uh, selecting somebody who you didn't mention. You could say Albert Brooks or yeah, or any of the people that, you know, if you could think of someone else that was in it, who might be heavily searched today.
Starting point is 00:39:58 Uh, you could obviously say that. Do you, do you know finding Dory? Have you seen it? No. You could obviously say that. Do you do you know Finding Dory? Have you seen it? No. I suspect you know these animated movies are stacked. Yeah, I mean there's always tons of great people involved. For sure, but there's only three people that I wrote down that are worth points. OK, I'm going with Ellen, too. OK.
Starting point is 00:40:33 So that a lot less in Hollywood these days, I'm going with Ellen. For fear if she finds out I didn't pick her. Amy, what do you think you finding Dory Finn? I've never seen it Doug You saw the first one though. Oh, yeah sure and then you're just like I spent enough time with those characters pretty much I Just get so exhausted with Dory Dory like forgets what just happened. Yeah It's exhausting to watch Undiagnosed ADHD. Yeah
Starting point is 00:41:13 I'm gonna go Alba Brooks Okay So I do you want to know why I would love to hear why? Oh, okay. Here's my Is because that documentary just came out about him, so I thought maybe Like within the last year. I thought maybe people will search him more than Alan But I also don't know anybody else in that movie so Yeah, well, that's where we really seem to have picked You know this was not the best
Starting point is 00:41:48 Movie to ask the three of you about because none of you have seen it or that familiar with it so you know it can get tricky because number three in this film was an actor who I did not mention because he's not one of the top two build but he's very popular now and He in this film was an actor who I did not mention because he's not one of the top two built, but he is very popular now and forever. Mr. Willem Dafoe. Well, oh, yeah, he's a voice of probably either a mean creature or a wise creature or maybe a little of both. He's maybe he's a shark. It does seem like he'd be a good shark with the teeth. But he could also be a little of both. He's maybe he's a shark. He does seem like he'd be a good shark.
Starting point is 00:42:26 The teeth. But he could also be a smart old turtle. He just never know. I don't know. Maybe he's a guy. You know, I mean, he plays characters with compassion that have compassion and characters that are pure evil. He like does both.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Well, I think that's true. All right. so number two I Couldn't be happier for her ongoing popularity because she's one of the best if not the biggest action heroines of all time Sigourney Weaver Is the voice she's a voice in finding Dory and then number one? Because of her I can only assume I mean she's delightful no matter what but Emphasis on the D She's starring in a show called high potential That people seem to like on ABC
Starting point is 00:43:17 From it's always sunny in Philadelphia Caitlin Olson Huh, yeah is a voice in fighting Dory. Now, I promise you, moving on to the next round that there's less fuckery going on, a little bit more straightforward. And then the third round goes back to this. There's definitely some some effing business going on there, so but let's do
Starting point is 00:43:48 Ethan up first on our second round a film an animated film again sad to say Starlet's web from 2006 which starred Dakota fanning as from 2006, which starred Dakota Fanning as a little girl from that book and Julia Roberts as Charlotte the Spider. Wow. I'm I'm taken aback by all the animated choices. Yeah, right. But you what you said earlier. About animated movies, but I guess these aren't in the past year. I'm going with who's pop, I mean, Julia Roberts.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Her name usually isn't spoken that like with a question mark like that but yes that is one of the possibilities I'm I'm I'm selecting her as a truly a robber Amy I think I'm going to go with uh You said Dakota fanning uh-huh Not the other one yeah Dakota fanning not l fanning or I swear there's two other fanning's out there Dakota Okay Sticking with it alright, so they took the two stars that I mentioned Gabe. Do you have any other?
Starting point is 00:45:24 All right, so they took the two stars that I mentioned Gabe. Do you have any other? Names to pull out of your pocket or do you have absolutely no memory of Charlotte's web and its voice actors? I'm sure I saw this in the theater as a younger person. I'm sure of it, but my My recollection as to who was which which celebrities were starring in it is hard to say so I'm gonna go with Dakota Fanny just cuz I saw her in a TV show she was in that thing that I just watched I don't know what it was called, but she was good in it murder mystery some there's no some murder mystery on that thing Oh, okay Oh
Starting point is 00:46:00 Was she just in one episode of a series on Netflix or was a actual movie? No, it was a it was a series. I think she's in a bunch of episodes. Oh, OK. I watched. You know, when you half watch something with your mom. It was I just sparked out like how they had pretty impressive guest stars in every episode of Poker Face, which was the other that's different mystery each episode of Poker Face, which was a different mystery each episode.
Starting point is 00:46:26 I love that show. All right. So Gabe's going with Dakota. Ethan's going with Julia Roberts and Amy's going with Dakota. And this one, like I said, was a little bit more straightforward. Number three was Julia Roberts. So that's worth one point for Ethan and number two is Dakota Fanning. So Amy and Gabe each get two points. So it's really anybody's game still. You said less fuckery. Yeah. Well, because here's the fucked part.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Yeah. Well, because here's the fucked part. Appearing number one appearing as Bitsy, the cow, in Charlotte's Web from 2006 is the great Kathy Bates. Oh, oh, now, of course, getting a lot of attention for being the new Matlock. That's right. The new Matlock who says out loud, my name is Matlock. You know, like the old TV show. So it's like,
Starting point is 00:47:29 what, you're not you, Matlock? No, I'm some other Matlock that talks about the bad. What am I watching? Yeah, it's confusing. So congratulations to everybody for getting on the board,
Starting point is 00:47:44 but good luck. This for getting on the board, but good luck last round of the game Amy is up first this time and the film is the animated classic happy feet starring Elijah wood as the title character and Brittany Murphy Elijah wood is the title character and britney murphy RIP Do you remember that one amy i mean yeah but i also haven't seen it
Starting point is 00:48:15 It's a cute one it's really cute it seems cute yeah cuz all these penguins they all you know it has nothing to do with actual penguin mythology cuz they all are, they all, you know, it has nothing to do with actual Penguin mythology because they all are realism. They all all these penguins like come out singing like they're all really good singers. And then Elijah Woods, a little baby penguin who he's really good at tap dancing. I mean, that sounds adorable. Yeah. And they all just sort of shunned him for his being different. It really is just Rudolph Red Nose Reindeer Bow with Peggy. Before I answer, can I just respond to something very
Starting point is 00:48:52 delayed? Because I can't get it out of my head. I've never half watched a movie with my mom. Because if you don't watch every second, she will scream at you. And you cannot talk and you can't get up and you can't ask questions. It is 100% watching. I was like, that sounds really nice actually, just to casually watch it. Yeah, you want to meet Joy? She's great.
Starting point is 00:49:20 What a nice name. Okay, okay, Huckabeefeet. I mean, I literally don't know who else is in this movie. I don't know why we got all animated. It's just not my forte, but I'm just gonna say Elijah Wood because I don't have a never know. I never know who's gonna be, you know, what's gonna be anybody's forte when I prepare this stuff. I just know that there's one frequent guest on the show who probably would have been better if this came up when he was on because Mr. Sam Levine does not pay attention to the animated films.
Starting point is 00:49:58 That's one of his blind spots. I could have really hit him with that, but instead I brought it to the three of you who are all. Blindsided by it, but let's start. Amy already went with Elijah Wood. So, Gabe, what do you think? Um. Listen, I love Brittany Murphy. I don't know how often she's being searched in IMDb these days.
Starting point is 00:50:24 I'm going to say Elijah Wood, but I don't know what he's making either, but I'm going to say Elijah Wood. Okay. It's so funny how much this game hinges on people knowing who else is in the movie. Doug, have you seen the interview with George Miller when the guy's like, happy feet and Mad Max are really similar?, uh, mad max are really similar. And he's like, they are really similar because he made both of them and they're so different. Like he's like, they're about limited resources and community.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Yeah. And also just, you know, just a very driven, like he's just a really, uh, even with his animated things like the happy feet movies he just really really knows how to you know keep the camera moving and it's true keep it entertaining I love that guy's work all right so Ethan of you yeah yeah All right. So, Ethan, have you gathered any thoughts? Yeah. I'm really ashamed of for people who do know animated movies, but having seen Happy Feet, I don't think as much as I like Elijah and Brittany, you know, if you'd had experienced the movie, you probably would have come away with neither of their names
Starting point is 00:52:04 as being the most popular people from Happy Feet because it's ridiculous. They're number five and six on the list. Number four, who's not worth any points but like should be, is Robin Williams. He plays multiple roles in Happy Feet, I think. Then number three, here's the other thing about Happy Feet is, of course, it was made by a director who's famous from being down under, as they say. So three, two, and one are all extremely famous Australian actors who go by the names Hugo Weaving, Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.
Starting point is 00:52:54 No idea. Australian fuckery, Doug. That was not expecting. You should have given us a hint. Yeah, it was fuckery in the wrong direction. Yeah, it flushes the opposite way. Yeah, it was fuckery in the wrong direction. Yeah, it flushes the opposite way. So that means this is so exciting that we have a tie between Amy and Gabe. Oh, wow. Yeah. And let's get our moms on the phone.
Starting point is 00:53:21 Gabe wants to potentially break the tie because I'm giving you a 50-50 question Gabe and if you get it right you're the winner today And if you get it wrong then Amy will be our winner and but we'll be eternally grateful to Ethan for participating Gabe from the film I mean I give you two names and you tell me which one is more popular right now. Also animated the motion picture monsters, incorporated monsters, Inc. Who is higher up on IMDb today? Billy Crystal or Jennifer Tilly?
Starting point is 00:54:00 Oh, wow. Yeah. Tough question. Yeah. I do today, Billy Crystal or Jennifer Tilly. Oh, wow. Yeah. Tough question. Yeah, I. Am going to say Billy Crystal. Amy made a shock sound for some reason. Does that does that mean you think he's right or you think he's wrong? I think he's wrong because Jennifer Tilly was just announced as being a new real housewife
Starting point is 00:54:32 of Beverly Hills and that makes me feel like a lot of people are searching for her. Well done. Maybe she's in all the Chuck E movies. Yeah. Well done. That is exactly why she is number two of all the performance in MonsterSync that have been searched because Billy Crystal is number one. Good job. Because it's fall and when Harry Met Sally is in the zeitgeist.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Yeah. I don't know. I don't know what I think. You know, I would guess. In fact, I'm pretty much sure that Billy Crystal is being searched a lot because he's there every game for the. Oh, the Yankees. Oh, Dodgers games. Amy, that was so well argued. I was so. Thank you. Yeah, she had sources. Yeah, no, that was really that was really good.
Starting point is 00:55:24 But congratulations, Gabe Malika. You're our winner today You get to promote your stuff first. What would you? Like to tell people to to do yeah next Friday. We were just somewhere on the road and they kept doing ads on TV for Seattle's,
Starting point is 00:56:50 like trying to encourage people to come there for all the Christmasy stuff they have going on in Seattle around the holidays is an interesting approach. Like almost like they're like, hey, it's cold and rainy here all the time. So, you know, come really enjoy it at Christmas time. I love that underappreciated Christmas city. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Cause it really is. Cause when they show pictures of the city, it's just like, they go crazy for the Christmas stuff. All right. Sorry to say, Ethan Berger burger you did not win today, but you won the hearts of all the listeners Especially the ones that aren't into animation I think there's a lot of people that really felt the pain of all of my guests today are just saying they're going I don't know any of this shit either but
