Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug Hates Candy Wrapper Screening Baby Stingy Seats with 50 Ads and Popcorn Kernels Hey everybody, my name is Doug and I love movies. This is a Doug Loves Movies mini boner ep coming to you from my LA digs on Tuesday, December 18th to Ocean's 12. Also known as Leonard Maltin's Birthday. Happy Birthday, dude. I give it four stars. Very excited about tonight's 12 guests of Christmas taping at UCB here in Los Angeles. Should plop for your listening enjoyment in a few days. Last night, Graham Elwood played the Leonard Maltin game against audience members at the Fort Lauderdale Improv,
Starting point is 00:00:41 and I'll play the audio from that show at the end of this ep. Thanks to all who came out. It was 154 peeps strong, and quite a rowdy crowd for a Monday night in a swamp. And there was a vampire there. For reals. A for reals vampire. I didn't catch his name. Could have been named Edward or Bella. Bella. Bella Lugosi. Am I the first person? I can't be the first person to put that together. That Bella in the Twilight books is named after Bella Lugosi. That's crazy. Now it's time for tweet relief
Starting point is 00:01:25 tweets about movies past and future guest Nick Swartzen tweeted I liked The Hobbit the first time when it was called Steel Magnolias this has been tweet relief tweets about movies Jacksonville, Florida I'm bringing the Benson movie interruption to you
Starting point is 00:01:43 January 5th and 6th at the Sunray Cinemas at 420. Saturday is Robocop and Sunday is Dirty Dancing and so far Robocop is kicking Dirty Dancing's ass out selling it 2 to 1. So come on
Starting point is 00:02:00 Jax. You'll have the time of your life if you come to Robocop or Dirty Dancing. Now it's time for Watch This, Not That. The number one movie in the country is The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey. The number two movie is Playing for Keeps. Just kidding. The number two movie is Rise of the Guardians, which has nothing to do with The Owls of Ga'ul, which I originally thought when I heard the title. I thought it was a sequel.
Starting point is 00:02:30 But whatever it is, it's a movie I'm sure I'll enjoy next year during the holiday season on a plane, just like Arthur Christmas flying home today from Fort Lauderdale, which I actually slept through. So I'll be sleeping through Rise of the Guardians in about a year. So watch The Hobbit, not The Guardians. This has been Watch This, Not That.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Los Angeles, I'm doing a Benson Interruption podcast at Meltdown Comics this Saturday, December 22nd at 420. Sarah Silverman, keep it under your hat, will be co-interrupting schedule permitting and also one last thing I want to say the weekly Doug Loves Movies tapings at UCB
Starting point is 00:03:14 will move to 7pm beginning on January 8th still free to get in please come down I want to pack the place for the amazing guests that I've got lined up all throughout January and then hopefully for the rest of the year. And as
Starting point is 00:03:31 always, not getting screeners yet for Django Unchained and Les Mis is a shithead. Does anyone reindeer for games? Woo! Grant's going to get a quick shot of himself in front of everybody. Did you get the piece of vampire
Starting point is 00:03:50 in the shot? The vampire will show you. I was going to make sure you get it in the shot. Oh, no. He really is a vampire. You can't see him. You can't see him in the phone. I thought he was joking around.
Starting point is 00:04:06 No, vampire's no joke. That's the... That was the ad slogan for Twilight, right? That's the... That was the ad slogan for Twilight, right? Vampire no joke. Vampire no joke. So let's see, did you guys break name tags?
Starting point is 00:04:22 So let's see, did you guys break name tags? All of us on the podcast break name tags. Tom, got a... He's on the podcast to break name tags. Tom wrote his name down on some toilet paper. We've got a, uh, Gaunt Caller. Oh, nice! Lightsaber. Yeah! Yeah, he's smart!
Starting point is 00:04:35 Smilesabers, a part of... Take your rings off, Jesus. A loner over there has got some nerds taped to a big part. Nerds! He's here too! It's pretty sweet. Dan loves movies? Two out of three loners brought name tags.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Oh, okay. Doctor, wait a minute. It's two out of three loners. Alright, pick somebody, Graham. I'm better than Samuel L. Okay, that's creepy. Alright, this guy right here. You brought the nerds in. Come on up here, dude somebody, Graham. I'm better than Shane McGee. Okay, that's great. All right, this guy right here. You brought the nerves in. Come on up here, dude.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Come on. Get up here, loner. You did some nice crafts. You did a lot of nice work, dude. Yeah, let me see this thing. It's actually both your podcasts together. Wow. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Well, let's not talk into the microphone right now. Just try it. What's your name? What's your name, first of all? My name's Frank. Hi, Frank. Hi, Frank. Oh, it's an A-rated. Okay, Frank.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Here's your 30-day trip. Tell us why. Yeah, be honest with us. Or just be Frank. So tell us about it. Tell us about it. It's making me need expression. What is his name tag? Describe it, man. The expression.
Starting point is 00:05:47 What is this name tag? Describe it for me. Well, basically what it's on the front is both of your podcasts put together. Uh-huh. Put the titles together. Uh-huh. And on the back there is all of your albums. And in your albums is one sentence. The oath of the professional, humoree, and hypocritically unbalanced load of the smug, body-mouthed life. That's a fan!
Starting point is 00:06:07 That is a fan. You can identify yourself as a fan, and you'll also be playing the FBI in Orphan's Whereabouts. That's pretty sweet, and you take some nerds in front. I love nerds. Doug loves comedy film. That's perfect. That's awesome. Come on now. Let's just give him the prizes and admit Murphy's Law, the most authentic Irish pub in the world.
Starting point is 00:06:42 the most authentic Irish pub in the world. You gotta love an outdoor pub with, you know, outdoor keys. Hookers! What hookers? What? You got hookers over at Murphy's Law? Vent wires! Vent wires. And they can't even let the window air one day. Vent wires.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah, you're a real winner no matter what. That's how much we like your name tag. Hold on to that. You said I'm funny? I'm a hard-easy bitch. I have a question. Why can we... I want to make a sign. It's not special day. She really is asking us a question. She really doesn't seem to understand how any of this works. She's like, are you gonna drink your drink? It's been sitting there.
Starting point is 00:07:29 So, if you're not, then give it to Doka. Serious, hey, I hate watching people waste alcohol. There's four children in Africa who would love to be shit-faced right now. Oh, hang on, hang on, I'm getting a call. Your car's here, it's right outside. Oh, hang on, hang on, I'm getting a call. Your car's here. It's ready to go.
Starting point is 00:07:51 She's right here. She's coming. Ooh, here we go. You're right here. All right, here's how this works. If we ever get through this, it'll be a miracle. Frank and Graham are going to play one-on-one in one round of the Leonard Fulton game. I'm going to throw in the podcast.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Frank gets to pick from some categories. It's just between Frank and Graham, so please don't try to help. Category number one, it's Giovanni Ribisi's birthday today. The great Giovanni Ribisi. Yeah. And so it's the films of Giovanni Rubisi.
Starting point is 00:08:27 I have a feeling you're not going to pick that. And then we have stocking stuffers. And that's films where a man is wearing pantyhose for some reason. Yes. Or Iceman Cometh. The Iceman Cometh. And that's movies where Val Kilmer has sex. That was suggested by Ad Sex Bob-omb. I guess I'll pick the hardest one of those.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Which one does that make you? Which one are you hardest for? You're going Rubisi? Giovanni Rubisi, my answer to you. Oh, shit. Don't be Rubisi. He's not messing around. Ooh-wee. All right, three and a half stars.
Starting point is 00:09:17 I'm going to describe the movie to Frank. Three and a half stars from Leonard Maltin on the Leonard Maltin iPhone app. He calls this movie a beguiling mood piece. And he also says that the lead actor in this movie seems to ad-lib many of his best lines. What year? And the year is 2003. And Leonard lists a mere six names. How many names, Frank?
Starting point is 00:09:44 Six names. You think you did six? Strong, open-ended, vicious, smart. I will go five. Frank says five, Frank. What are you going to do with that? Name it. Name it? Thank you, Frank.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Because I believe in the name. Your five names are Catherine Lambert, Far's why. Alright, your five names are Catherine Lambert, Farino Ashiashi, Anna Faris, Giovanni Ribisi, and Scarlett Johansson. And the movie is called
Starting point is 00:10:15 Oh, uh, uh, uh, You have three seconds. Oh, fuck, two, one, zero, go. Frankie's our winner! You know what movie it is, right? No.
Starting point is 00:10:28 No, right? Yeah, yeah. So it's Lost in Paradise. Yeah, that's right. Frank is our winner! Yay, Frank, you did it! Congratulations, buddy. Very well done.
Starting point is 00:10:40 There's your prize bag. There's your prize bag. And take these as a sign for you. Yeah, turn the nerds off. I'll take those nerds. There's your prize bag. And take this sign over here. Yeah, tear the nerds off it. I'll take those nerds. Fucking nerds. I'm all about radio nerds. I can say one more thing.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Can you say one more thing? This is actually from your other podcast with Karen. With Karen? Yeah, so let's be frank. And your name is Frank. Wow, this guy really is... Oh, holy shit! He's a super fan.
Starting point is 00:11:10 It doesn't matter that he's smart, guys. He's lying. Great opening, everybody! Thank you, Graham. Thank you, Fort Lauderdale, for coming out tonight. I really appreciate it. And as always, the immortal are shaking. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie.
Starting point is 00:11:38 Eyes of gold, his viewing prowess makes him cocky. There's no room in his heart for you, cause Doug loves movies.
