Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as it pop or kernels in his teeth. They're still not one that he won't see, because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey everybody. That was was fun. I'd never seen audience choreography during the theme song. But I'm excited that it happened. And I hope it happens again. It was kind of like, are you former synchronized swimmers? It did have that kind of feel to it.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Tug, and I love movies. This is God Loves Movies. That was beautiful. Coming to you once again and live streaming for the second time from Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles. Woo! We're doing it. You know know it also dawned on me we did the first livestream was at like 420 in the afternoon and then like the East
Starting point is 00:01:12 Coasters get it at 720 and then with this one I thought well if it's at 730 Pacific time like are people really gonna watch the livestream at 1030 PM on a Monday night? And we don't know the answer yet, but we'll find out eventually. It's Monday, March 24, 2025. And let's take a look in the prize bag. Prize bag! Prize bag!
Starting point is 00:01:41 Prize bag! Prize bag! Nice work. That was terrific. I'll bring this up later. We've got one of my guests brought something for me to give away. But inside this duffel bag thingy is a pretty, oh shit.
Starting point is 00:02:02 I thought it would just fall out if I lifted it up but it's it's being it's being here we go here we go come on come on all right here it is if you're a fan of the TV show severance, they sent me a lumen, like what's supposed to look like a vending machine inside the horrible work situation that is lumen. And I picked a bag to put it in that's exactly as tight as the thing itself, so it's like giving birth up here trying to get it out. But you're starting to see it, yeah? There we go. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:02:52 There you have it. And it's full of little weird, lumen-esque little treats and stuff that are in individual boxes. And a couple of them, I'm going to warn you, a couple of them are I'm going to warn you, a couple of them are empty because yeah, yeah, because a couple of them are like snacks and one of them was some really good, really expensive earbuds. So, but you get the most of it.
Starting point is 00:03:17 You get the meat of it. The box itself is pretty cool and this bag is pretty fun. And then also, just to make it a little better for you, this is on vinyl. He was a guest on the show once, but that's not why I have this. It just landed in my lap at a recent event that I was at. But it's the great composer Michael Giacchino, he put out volume one of exotic themes
Starting point is 00:03:48 for the silver screen. And it's just different things that he's written for over the years, like Mission Impossible and Ghost Protocol and Ratatouille. And it's a pretty good first installment of a vinyl from a terrific composer. And like I said, there's one other thing to give away. But we'll find out more about that when I get my guests out here. But first, it's time for Doug Plugs.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Doug Plugs! Doug Plugs! Doug Plugs! Doug Plugs! See, that's the enthusiasm I was looking for. Monday, April 7, Benson Movie Interruption is back right here at Dynasty Typewriter. And then I'm doing stand-up in Wilmington, North Carolina,
Starting point is 00:04:34 at the Dead Crow Comedy Club on April 18 and 19. And on 420 this year, I'll be having a good night at Good Nights in Raleigh, North Carolina For all my dates and deeds and links go to you know where Let's get my guests out here. Are you ready? We got a terrific lineup tonight, please welcome Jay Chandra Saker Paul F, Ellery Smith, and Jacob Wysocki. Hey, everybody. There they are.
Starting point is 00:05:15 What a fantastic group of individuals who we will speak to individually, alphabetically, by first name. She had to put an underscore in her name on Instagram because some other Ellery Smith took it. It's Ellery Smith! Yeah, that's true! because some other Ellery Smith took it. It's Ellery Smith! Yeah. That's true.
Starting point is 00:05:48 How did that, have you talked to this Ellery Smith? We follow each other. She's cute, she's blonde too, I'll allow it. Right, well there also must be some confusion because of her being blonde too. Yeah. Like her avatar is like a picture of her in a mirror and I didn't know which one was you.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Oh, no. That must happen. I figured it out, though. I went deeper and figured it out. But yeah, there must be some confusion. But that's nice you get along with her, because she should be your nemesis. Unless she's getting my dates, I think we're good.
Starting point is 00:06:20 If the funny boat in Albany is going out to her, then we have a problem. She's not a stand-up. No, I think she's just a regular. What does she do? She's a regular? I have no idea what she does. She's a regular.
Starting point is 00:06:30 I said she's a civilian. She's one of you regulars. Maybe she's a better crew. But does civilian even work for that? Aren't we civilians as comedians? No, we're drafted in a way. You know? We're armed.
Starting point is 00:06:44 We're dangerous. We're threats to society, probably. It's true. We're armed, we're dangerous, we're threats to society. It's true, we are chosen, one way or the other, because we choose ourselves mostly. Self-anointed. But thank you for being here. This is your first in-person appearance on the show. You did a Zoom episode. How do you feel your movie trivia skills are going to stand up to these three? I'm pretty nervous. I mean, obviously, stacked lineup, I feel like this is, you know, that was doing me dirty.
Starting point is 00:07:12 I would love to be up against three dummies, but didn't shake out that way. I also, famously, I like really bad movies, and I think that in some, in some directions, that helps me because I have a wide knowledge of that but yeah my knowledge is kind of all over the place so I'm a little nervous. There's definitely some bad movies are gonna come up tonight but you should be alright. That's why I do so well on Benson, a movie interruption. Right. You know Doug told me not to tell you this but I was on with the other Ellery Smith, and she's pretty good at boos.
Starting point is 00:07:45 No! Oh, I got to imagine. She's pretty good at boos. Yeah. Yeah, I heard she graduated from AFI, and she's in Oscar now. You know? Master's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Master's, master's, gotten to Sundance. I'll kill her. She really should go by other Ellery Smith. That's just fun. She got there first. How did she, your parents named you, you were on an episode of my other podcast, Wide World of Dugs, and you revealed
Starting point is 00:08:12 that you were named after the character Ellery Queen, played by the great Tim Hutton on television for a few seasons. And what do you think the other Ellery was named after? Have you talked to her about that? We literally just follow each other on Instagram and like our posts. I've never actually hit her up. But it's interesting because only recently have I started,
Starting point is 00:08:35 now at parties or when I meet people, some people, it's more recent that people will say, I know an Ellery too. Only in the last five years has that started. Yeah. So it's like a hot new name. I guess everybody's named their fucking an Ellery too. Only in the last five years has that started. Yeah. So it's like a hot new name. I guess everybody's name in their fucking kid Ellery. But I've had it for kind of a long time. And when I was a kid, I never heard it anywhere.
Starting point is 00:08:52 I was 25 before I heard of somebody else having it. And you know, the one that you were named after is a man. So it could be a man's name or a woman's name. Well, the first time I met somebody who was named Ellery, it was a boy. Yeah. And now it's name or a woman's name. Well, the first time I met somebody who was named Ellery, it was a boy. Yeah. And now it's going more girls, I think. OK.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Yeah. You're leading the charge. I'm leading the charge. You're making it happen. I need any kids, and there's a kid named Ellery, and I hate. She's so annoying. The other Ellery Smith is really leading the charge.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Because she doesn't have the under score. Well, she's younger than me, so I had it first. OK. OK. That's fine. Well, all right. That's fine. Well, all right. He is currently starring in the movie Rats! Is an exclamation point in the title.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I wasn't just screaming rats for no unjustified reason. And it's his first time on the show. It's Jacob Wasaki! What's up? What up? A real honor to be here. Happy to be here. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Dude, it was so nice to meet you. I got invited by the makers of Rats to do a Q&A after a screening of Rats. And I was very excited to take on the challenge and also did not, I said, I don't want to see the movie ahead of time. They were like, we'll send you a link.
Starting point is 00:10:09 I'm like, no, I want to watch it with an audience. But then I was also a little worried that I got to do a Q&A right after. I got to moderate the Q&A. What if this movie sucks shit? And it turns out I enjoyed the movie very much. Thank God. I sat there by myself laughing very hard at a lot of things that happened.
Starting point is 00:10:32 A film critic has pointed out that it's very much like a John Waters movie. Did you feel that connection in that way while you were making it? Or did you just think this is a new disgusting thing? Yeah, it was just like its own very weird psycho thing. And I didn't, I'm like in the first half of it and I didn't see a lot of the other stuff that was going on. Like the like, the house, there's like crazy house and some other set pieces that I wasn't aware of.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I was just like in a jail cell for like several hours for a couple days. Are there rats in the movie? Um, good question, really good question. I don't think so. I don't think so. Wait a second, there's a rat in the movie. Is there an actual rat? Really awful, very, it's like, my least favorite thing about the movie
Starting point is 00:11:17 is how poorly the rat is treated. We only saw the first half of the movie. Yeah, I kind of leave with my parts done. Right, right, okay. You know what I mean? I'm not responsible. I guess I can't remember if there's, yeah, there's like a little thing.
Starting point is 00:11:28 But it's more about the idea of ratting somebody out. It's more of the verb, I think. Yes, it is. It's more like, yeah, people that would talk to the cops. Snitches. It could have been called snitches. Snitches. But it turns out there's also a rat in the movie that
Starting point is 00:11:44 is treated very poorly Yeah, don't go if you're a rat fan If you're a rat lover, but but it's other than that. It's very low on rat That's good. I think that's good. Yeah, but it's on the VOD It's on the VODs. You got to go find it. You got to watch it at home and enjoy it at home with your family and friends. I saw it with an audience, and we were all laughing.
Starting point is 00:12:10 But I wonder what the experience would be like at home alone. It might be traumatizing. Invite me over. I'll watch it with you. That sounds good. That sounds like a great. You should set up a system more. Will you commit to watching the second half of the movie
Starting point is 00:12:23 after you're done? If I'm personally invited to somebody's home, I'll be polite and I'll do that. I'll watch the whole thing. Yeah, it'll be fun. You'll be like, you know, you could be like, oh, I didn't know this happened in this movie that I'm in. And you know, you could really revel in it.
Starting point is 00:12:35 He didn't know there was a rat in the movie. I don't know if there's a rat in the movie, to be honest. He still doesn't know. Are you thinking of the pig? You're thinking of the pig, aren't you? You think I'm confusing a pig with a rat? Gotta get to the bottom of it somehow. I can see that happening, Doug. There's a rat that gets killed on camera.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Yeah. Never seen it. Doug's gaslighting me. No, I'm just kidding. But anyway, it's a super fun movie, and I'm glad that I met you through that experience. It was fun. You did great. You nailed the Q&A.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Well, I don't do a lot of Q&As, but. When you do, look out. When I do, holy shit. Look out. Yeah. All right. Also joining us today, Ann brought something for the prize bag, which, because that's
Starting point is 00:13:26 because that's how old school he is, is I used to make all my guests bring something, but then they would so often forget or bring everything they own, like they were trying to get out of the country or something. So I had to cut it back. But in this case, actor, writer, director, mustache grower, what doesn't he do? It's Jayshandra Sikhar, everybody! What's going on, man?
Starting point is 00:13:57 Well, I don't know. I talked all over their intro, so maybe I've had enough time. Yeah, you really have, But his book that he brought. That's really polite. That's really kind and aware. The book that he brought is Mustache Shenanigans. And it's all about his crazy life, growing a mustache and then shaving it off and then growing it again. And Super Troopers 3, is that a thing?
Starting point is 00:14:24 Yeah, we're discussing it seriously like we've written it we know when we want to shoot it we just have to make it one more deal with the studio and then we'll see okay nice that's nice we're all very excited what about I thought that for a while there was gonna be a sequel to the beer movie you did yeah you know we were gonna be your face it was a joke at the end of beer fest that we were gonna make pot fest right it was so long ago that pop started be calling they started calling it weed right and then now everyone's like when are you making weed fest I'm like okay. And then now everyone's like, when are you making Weed Fest? I'm like, OK, fine.
Starting point is 00:15:05 And now it's like, are you going to make it before Willie dies? There's a lot of questions about it. But since it was just a joke, we're actually meeting on it again on Thursday. So we've had one meeting. Both of these things are, the wheels are in motion to make Weed Fest and Super Troopers 3. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Do you feel like because Weed's gotten less taboo, you might have to push the envelope? Heroin Fest. K-Fest. Academy Fest, yeah. K-Fest. K-Fest. No, that's the thing is it's sort of like it
Starting point is 00:15:38 doesn't have the shock value that it once did being upfront about Weed. But I also think a festival, like a competition, that would be like as intense as the competition and beer fest could be enough to get people out. We smoked some joints at Kevin Heffernan's little sorta back house and we laughed for about two hours and we kinda came to the idea that yes we
Starting point is 00:16:05 can make a movie about this. But they can't be, what about a Super Troopers 3 Weed Fest like what if the Super Troopers you know showed up at Weed Fest? Couldn't you combine them or is this or two screenplays already written? That was part of the first meeting, Doug. Oh, shit. I love it. That's a great.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Because who's ever done that, where they had two different tent pool, two different franchises, but that come together? Yeah, you're right. Marvel, I guess, has done the shit out of that. But thank you for being here, Jay. And I'm happy to welcome back a man who hasn't done this show for 12 years.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Wow. Yeah, his last appearance was 12 years ago, but I'm so happy that he's back. It's Paul Feig, everybody. Dug, I technically did not do the show because I was on with Pete Holmes, who never stopped talking. Yeah. Yeah, when you're on with Pete Holmes, you're not really,
Starting point is 00:17:11 you're not truly on the show. I sat there and I had a microphone. It doesn't count. It's true. I love that you remember that. I remember that. I love that you have that specific memory from 12 years ago. You don't forget trauma, Doug.
Starting point is 00:17:27 You don't forget trauma. Exactly. But you do so much press, so many interviews, so many different things to promote your films. You're like, you're out there. You're the face of your films. And we're going to see another one on, is it May 1st is when? May 1st it drops on
Starting point is 00:17:45 amazon uh... another simple favor which is a sequel to movie made called a simple yes and it's in the straight to uh... amazon on may first yeah that was the deal we made only you know i would wish it was theatrical but but it's okay but that's how we signed on those going to be a streaming but you got to that's the thing that's like kind of a saving grace of these movies that go straight to theatrical, at least in your case, is that you got to see it at South by Southwest with that audience.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Yeah. No, it's the best place. So at least you get that. You got to have that experience. You get that big thing. We premiered Bridesmaids at South by Southwest and Spy there too. And it's the best place to show a movie.
Starting point is 00:18:24 The audiences are just fantastic. But I'm doing the Miami Film Festival. We're showing it there. And then we have a couple of premieres going on. So we'll get into it. Yeah, you get to see it with an audience, which is nice. Will you wear a more colorful outfit in Miami? Possibly, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:40 I mean, you're pretty colorful right now. Thank you. I always try to step it up. I really thought tonight might be casual night for Paul Fiegg. I really thought this might be the night where you, because I've known you for a long time, and like suits became a thing after I first knew you. Yeah, well, no, I was doing it actually when,
Starting point is 00:19:00 by the time we worked together, the unknown dougson's nineteen eighty-five uh... and i start out wearing the what the word that nobody will remember this willie where suits are called willie where and they were kind of other the after disco era and they were very loose almost like the david bern suit from you know stop making sense but not that oversized right and you wouldn't dare think of wearing a suit that they were without the sleeves being rolled up and with a bolo tie or with a thin piano tie.
Starting point is 00:19:29 If you watch old Jay Leno, he's always wearing a thin piano tie. So that was the 80s man. It was a long time ago. Yeah. So you're trying to tell me I was wrong and that you've always had formal wear? I was transitioning out of the suit stuff
Starting point is 00:19:43 by the time I got to the Variety Arts Club. There you go. I was trying to be cool. Trying to be hip. Yeah, you just don't know. Oh, yeah, well, Doug, the gift I brought you, I said I can offer this up as one of the prizes, unless you really, really want it.
Starting point is 00:19:59 This is my own gin I make. I put it backstage because I wanted to keep it, and you brought it back out here. Jay told me to. To give it away. You should give that away. No, I'd be happy to give it away. I got another bottle in my trunk, so. You do?
Starting point is 00:20:14 I'll bring you one for you. OK, so this bottle's going into the prize bag. A bottle of what's it called? It's called Arting Stalls. It was my mother's maiden name. Oh, OK. Also called Trunk Gin. Selling out of the boot of his car.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Well, my old company, Trunk Sushi, didn't work out. So I'm going to sell it. Well, thank you for that. And I'm excited that there's a backup, because I really did want it. Would Jay brought this book in, I was like, I'm happy to give that away. I can't wait to get rid of that.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Because I'm not as into books as I am into gin, as it turns out. But I appreciate all of you. And before we play some games today, I would like each of you to recommend one movie. It can be from the whole history of cinema, preferably something people can access, like nothing that's like disappeared or unavailable.
Starting point is 00:21:25 But what would you like to recommend, Ellery? We'll start with you. I watched Connie and Carla last night. So good. It's from the writer-director of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, her, Toni Collette, and David Duchovny. So fun. Nia Vardalos?
Starting point is 00:21:41 Is that her name? Yeah. Just like the most fun time. And every dollar that's spent on the movie, you see it on screen. Like it's costumes, it's wigs, it was just so amazing and such like practical effects, which I love. What's the story?
Starting point is 00:21:58 I feel like I've seen this. I'm sure you have. I think it's like a, I'm gonna say it's 2003, maybe 2004. It's two like musical theater girls who witness a murder and have to go on a run, on the run. And so they moved to LA because there's no musical theater here and that's the last place anybody would look for them. Yeah. It was, it was Neo's follow up to Big Fat Greek Wedding. And dare I say it's more fun. It's like like I really, I really enjoyed the heck out of it.
Starting point is 00:22:26 I'll say that. It was such a, such a romp. It went so fast. Didn't feel slow at all. What's it called again? Connie and Carla. All right. Connie and Carla.
Starting point is 00:22:38 You'll be very happy. I do think I've seen that movie and I feel like I agree with you about it. It was also such a, it's a universal movie and and it's a jukebox musical, and at first I was like, how the fuck did they afford all this music? And it's all universal songs. So smart. Very smart.
Starting point is 00:22:55 A little loophole. Yeah! What a damn way to make a movie. Now I feel like I haven't seen it. Because I don't remember seeing a musical with her, but because they really do perform the songs? They perform a lot of music, yeah. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:23:13 All right. What's that, audience member? A Rarity, yes, and a musical? It's not a musical, but they do a lot of stage numbers. And so when I say jukebox musical, I mean like they're playing a lot of different songs for musicals, music that's owned by Universal Music Group, frankly. But it's, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:30 But it isn't really a human being. Are you satisfied with that answer? It does not make sense. Good. OK, Jacob. All right, Jacob, what would you like to recommend? I'll recommend rats. Rats.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Of course rats, exclamation point. The people behind rats are going to be so excited that Paul Feeke even just said the word rats. They're going to love it. They're going to run with it. Click it, click it, put it on Instagram. Paul Feeke says rats. He confirms that it exists. I'll recommend the last movie that I laughed really, really hard at in theaters
Starting point is 00:24:08 was Y2K, Kyle Mooney's Y2K. And I won't say what the bit was, but there was a bit in the movie that I think maybe, I can't remember laughing that hard in theater since like old school or Anchorman. Why won't you say? I don't want to spoil it if people haven't seen it because it is so funny. Well, it's been long enough. I think we want to be convinced. I'm curious. I'm on the fence here. I want to be convinced. There's a, I mean, I don't, this is a tough, tight position for me as a no spoiler moralist, but there's a really good physical gag.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Do people care? I don care? Do you guys care? I don't small say. Give me a little more, I'll tell you if you shouldn't give it away, because I saw the movie. Okay, there's a very funny physical gag. Okay, that's not narrowing it down too much. That happens to a main character,
Starting point is 00:24:57 or a side character, and then they're no longer in the movie. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah. Yeah, it's a... That's okay, I thought it was very, very funny. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah. Yeah. That was a funny one. That's OK. I thought it was very, very funny. Yeah, there's some.
Starting point is 00:25:09 I'm not convinced to see it yet. Oh, boy. That's OK. That's OK. Check it out. Check it out. Wait, that's not going to convince him. I'm not convinced.
Starting point is 00:25:22 OK, check it out. Kyle Mooney's really funny, respectable young comedian. No, I said I don't want to see it. You want him over. You want him over. What might convince you is Kyle Mooney kind of threw the same DIY pipeline that you and your boys were. I like him.
Starting point is 00:25:34 You know what I mean? Are there any rats in the movie? There's a pig. No rats, unfortunately. This has all become very circular now. It's good. It's all very circular now. It's good. It's fun. I did see it at SXSW, and the place went crazy for it. And it's one of those movies where
Starting point is 00:25:53 you don't want to say too much about it, because it kind of relies on the gags. The trailer for the movie gave away that Fred Durst is in it as himself. And that to me was such a funny thing in the actual movie that that's why I now don't mind saying it out loud because it was in the trailer. It was in the trailer you could say. But I think it was a mistake to put it in the trailer.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Because it was such a fun twist that like, Fred Durst as himself is suddenly involved with these teenagers trying to fight machines. Like it's just hilarious. I gotta tell you, all this like secrecy around this movie has made me change my mind. I wanna see this movie. You should see it.
Starting point is 00:26:32 I'm gonna see it. Yeah, it's easy to spoil a movie. You know, it's like if someone was talking to you about gremlins and said, I can't believe she put one in a blender and another one in a microwave. You'd be like, well, that sounds cool, but also you've just ruined it. You know, it's that kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:26:50 There's lots of fun kills, lots of fun deaths. I haven't seen gremlins either. What? Oh, now, Jay. Check it out. How is that possible? Convince me. How is it possible?
Starting point is 00:26:59 Small guys become bad guys? I mean, you know, little tinies become bad meanies? Yeah, exactly. That can't be possible if you've never seen Gremlins. No, I haven't. You know, I must have been a teenager. ET? Do you see ET? Yes, but I left it going, not that cool, because I was... Well, that's why you needed Gremlins, because Gremlins was the antidote to ET. Hitting that teen level where I'm like, that's not cool. And so I was sort of against ET for a while.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I've seen it pretty good. Pretty good. You finally came around on ET. Pretty good. That's nice. What would you like to recommend today? I watched Out of Sight on the plane yesterday. Oh my god.
Starting point is 00:27:38 I was just talking about that the other day. It's so beautifully well done. So good. Best JLo, best Clooney, best Soderbergh, it's like best best best. Louis Guzman. Yeah Steve Zahn and Sheetal and Albert Brooks. Yeah no it's just like even like in a tiny role like even the smaller parts like Guzman's not in it a lot, it's just like even like in a tiny role, like even the smaller parts, like Guzman's not in it a lot, but it's just such a huge impact and yeah, great movie. Loved it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:15 The structure, the way it jumps back and forth in time, everything about it, he just nailed it. I saw that new one, his new one, Black box how's that black bag black bag all right one point for Paul Fee yes congrats he got that one right black bag black bag I you know now I'm embarrassed because I hated black box but now I feel like I haven't seen Black Bag. I should see it. Hated it. No, no, I'm kidding. No, I didn't hate it. It was just, you know, that's the thing about Soderbergh is that I feel like he's making movies for people who are like, just show
Starting point is 00:28:59 us, just do something. You know, like he, you know what I mean, his style kind of changes, but it also doesn't from movie to movie. And like each one kind of feels like an experiment. Kind of like with Zemeckis now with his, that movie here with Tom Hanks, is it just sort of like, you know, is it going to work or is it going to be a noble attempt? And that's how I feel about black page the black box you loved it black box holy shit alright uh... what was out of sight was jay's movie okay uh... and now let's go to paul feet
Starting point is 00:29:37 uh... it is always hard to recommend something to the wall so that is going to go i do have one you could just do you know that no no no i don't know if that would be terrible uh... not like a remit recommend things that i don't think people have seen obviously uh... uh... this movie called the wrath of becky some reason thank you get an excellent it's it's a sequel to becky which is another great movie but the wrath of becky is incredibly fun uh...
Starting point is 00:30:02 shawna william scott plays a horrendous kind of racist sort of, you know, white supremacist guy and this Becky goes into their world and it's just really fun and satisfying and great, great kills and great. I hear he's the nicest guy. Jay can answer this. Well, he's the nicest guy. He's the nicest guy. He's awesome. He's the greatest.
Starting point is 00:30:23 Yeah. Yeah. And he plays these really tough guys, and yet he's like, hey, hey, listen, little kid. Sweetheart. He comes from insanity, though. He does? From a place of insanity? No, his brother was put away.
Starting point is 00:30:39 And when you talk to Sean, you're like, I see it. He's brilliant. He's incredible. But you're like, there's he's brilliant he's incredible but you're like there's a little wow there's a little nutso behind those eyes he's in a pool a little in the DNA pool and I love this guy I will tell you yeah no he's here he's a super super nice guy but I also now I'm gonna look out for that psycho side of him he's a he's in my movie Jackpot, streaming now on Amazon. Nice.
Starting point is 00:31:07 He's great and goon. I love the movie Goon. And you see that sort of like insanity. It's just so good. And in the end, I Love You Man? Yeah, he's great. Or Role Models. Role Models.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Great comedic actors. Those movies are easy to mix up, those two. I do that all the time. I should do a game where people have to know the difference between role models and I love you, man. Which one has slapping the bass? Kids?
Starting point is 00:31:32 Well, those are all very interesting recommendations. Give people a lot of options of things to check out. And we're going gonna play some games right after these messages. Starting point is 00:32:31 We picked some name tags during the break. Ellery is playing for Greg from Chicago and Jacob is playing for new in Town Nikki, and Jay is playing for Super Sam Purse, and Paul is playing for Blade-uh. Blada. Blada. Good luck to everyone. Our first game is something that I call How Big Is It? Woo!
Starting point is 00:33:04 Woo! Woo! Woo Is It? Woo! I'm going to name a thing, and then the four of you are going to guess how big it is. And the person who's closest to the number, without going over, Price is Right style, will be our winner. We'll start with Ellery, then go to Jacob and then Jay and then Paul. Is this in metrics or in feet? This is gonna be in feet. How big? Yes Ellery? Is it IMDB rankings? Or is it actually feet? No, it's not size, right? I'm trying to remember last time I did this.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I'm going to name a thing. I don't think you've played this game before. There's a bunch of different rotating games. And this one, how big is it? I'm going to name a thing, and then you're going to guess how big it is. But according to what, Doug? According to how big it actually is.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Like in the real world? So like you might say bridge, and then I have to be like 65 feet. OK, OK, OK. Is that it? It will be a specific bridge. Not necessarily movie related. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:12 Yeah. Now this is a specific thing. There's no reason for you to know the answer. That's why it becomes a fun guessing game. Because what I want to know is, the other thing about this game is it's always something about Tom Hanks. That's the inside joke. How big is the mansion that Tom Hanks and Shelly Long buy
Starting point is 00:34:36 in 1986 is the Money Pit? So it's a mansion. Sure. What do you think the square footage is of the mansion in that movie? Well, if my apartment is 800 square feet... that's not funny, ma'am. I'm gonna guess it is 15,000 square feet? No? Does that seem right or wrong? Stop laughing at her answer. You're doing your best. You're doing great. That's so mean to say, Jacob. 15... You're going with 15,000.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Right? Or no? Does that not make any sense? Sorry, Greg. You can't really ask the other competitors what they think. But maybe you'll find out from Jacob's answer. How many square feet do you think the mansion in The Money Pit? 37,000. Did you see that movie? No. It's Tom Hanks and Shelley long by a big house. Didn't see it. It's like a steal but the reason it's a steal is because it's a total money pit. I'm gonna say 37,000 square feet. 37,000 square feet is Jacob's answer. What do you think, Jay?
Starting point is 00:35:49 Did you see the money pit? No, and I feel like I'm the rat in this answer, but 15,001 square feet. Oh, that's so reasonable. You just got Bryce's right rules to heart. I love it when people do that. I thought 15,000 was a great guess. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:36:07 So you just added a dollar. What do you think, Paul? I'm going full on Price is Right. I'm saying one square foot. Smart. Ultimately very smart. Oh, look at him. Look at him go.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Do you know Drew Carey? Yeah. Yeah? Yeah. You've run into him? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah? Yeah. You've run into him? Oh, yeah. He's a great guy. He's such a nice guy.
Starting point is 00:36:28 He's such a great guy. I love that guy. It's so funny now. Like, people go on that show, and they're like so excited to bid $1 that they do it when like, you're not going to win. You know what I mean? They like pick the wrong time to do it,
Starting point is 00:36:44 but they're so excited. $1, Drew! And he's like, OK're not gonna win, you know what I mean? They like picked the wrong time to do it, but they're so excited. One dollar, Drew! And he's like, okay, one dollar. Retail price, 17,000. All right. Okay, so the mansion in the money pit. I can't believe this is happening. 14,000 square feet. So with the one dollar bid. Paul to make $1 bid, Paul is the winner.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Later, later. You almost had it. With his sneaky ass $1 bid. I've never been prouder. Paul wins. And you know what you win, Paul? My own gin bag. No, it means you get to go first in our in our next game.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Okay so it's gonna go this is gonna be the order it's gonna go Paul then Jay then Jacob then Ellery and this is a game called Netflix and chill yeah. I hear the kids are into that these days. But you'll see what I mean by Netflix in a moment. Because I'll say a fact, fun or otherwise, and then you have to tell me if it's about Dragnet starring Tom Hanks, The Net starring Sandy Bullock, or Marie Antoinette played by Kirsten Dunst. So we're gonna start with Paul. Paul misses it. There's, you know, since it's multiple choice, Jay will have a 50-50 shot and if
Starting point is 00:38:23 Jay misses it then Jacob's gonna get the gimme point. I need it.-50 shot. And if Jay misses it, then Jacob's going to get the gimme point. I need it. I need it. And every time somebody gets a point, we'll start with the next person. Paul, which one of those movies, Dragnet, The Net, or Marie Antoinette, is one hour and 46 minutes long?
Starting point is 00:38:46 Marie Antoinette. Incorrect. I was a great guess though, because it was one of the three options. What are the other two? He said Marie Antoinette? Yeah, yes. So the others are Dragnet or The Net? Hour and 46 minutes, okay.
Starting point is 00:39:08 It's actually a pretty classic time for a studio movie. Does that include end credits or not? That would include the end credits. That's the whole thing. I mean, it's, you know. So I'm gonna go with the most studio of those. I'm gonna go with The Net. The Net is incorrect. I'm so sorry about that. What do you think it is? Which one did Paul say? Hey Marie Antoinette. Did I actually win that?
Starting point is 00:39:38 No, no, I just I just was double checking because I you know I have screwed it up in the past but But Jacob, what? I'm feeling really confident, probably the most confident I've felt all night, Doug. I'd love to lock in the answer, Dragnet. Final answer, thank you, Doug. Dragnet is the correct answer. Oh, all right.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Wow. I'm going to let it go to my head. Is your time in LA getting better? You're trying to make LA get better. You were trying to make that one. Rats. You're on the board, yeah. You have one point, and Ellery gets to go first because she hasn't even gotten to participate
Starting point is 00:40:15 in this game yet. So let's give her a shot. You ready? Which one of those three films? The Net, Dragnet, Marie Antoinette has two SNL members, two cast members of SNL in the cast. I don't know. Do I get to ask like of any SNL cast? Yeah, out of 50 seasons. That's so unfair. It's a lot of people.
Starting point is 00:40:52 But one of these movies has two of them in the movie. The other two have one or less SNL cast members. You're describing basically every movie. I'm gonna guess The Net. The Net is incorrect. Paul, you got a 50-50 here. What do you think? Dragnet.
Starting point is 00:41:17 Dragnet is correct. Good guess. Do you know who the two are? Probably like Tim Kazarincki. Well, you know, Dragnet is co-stars with Tom Hanks' Dan Ackroyd. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah. And then the other one that squeaked in there is good old Peter Ackroyd.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Also was an SNL cast member for a while. That's a deep cut. Yeah. And he showed up in there. But the other two, it's interesting, because you wouldn't necessarily think either of them would have somebody from SNL in them. But The Net featured Dennis Miller as a judge. He's like, I'm going to rule against you, cha-cha.
Starting point is 00:42:02 And then Marie Antoinette has a very interesting casting choice, somehow Molly Shannon is in Marie Antoinette. I remember that actually. Yeah, there you go. That's a Coppola movie, Sofia Coppola. Exactly. Great film. Yeah, all right, so Paul got that one, so we're back to you, Jay.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Are you ready? Yeah. Which one of those movies was its director's first film? Dragnet or the other ones? The Net, Marie Antoinette? It has to be The Net. It has to be. Because Marie Antoinette was It has to be the net. It has to be. Because Marie Antoinette was Sofia Coppola,
Starting point is 00:42:48 and she had already made a film. Dragnet, there's no way that movie would get away with having a first time director. No way. They would hire somebody like me to come in and do that movie. No. So it's got to be the net. like me to come in and do that movie. No, so it's got to be the net.
Starting point is 00:43:09 Do you remember the question? That's incorrect. I liked your math on that. You were so forceful. I'm looking at the words going, I think Jay might be right. I think Jay is convincing me that I wrote this down wrong or something. But no, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:43:29 That's not the correct. Well, that's around the time, I will say, that comedies were kind of burgeoning TV directors. Oh. So maybe that was it. OK. Listen to that, Jacob. OK.
Starting point is 00:43:43 Just talk to the director to direct. Well, we already know Sophia Coppola did the narration. I. Listen to that, Jacob. OK. This time, the director to director. Well, we already know who Sophia Coppola did the mirroring. I feel really confident about this answer. I did not have said that. My confidence is continuing to rise through this. And I was really worried about the game portion of the show. I'd love to lock in Dragnet as my final answer. Doug, I'm so happy to be here.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Thank you so much. Sorry to my competitors. Yes. You are so blessed by God, Jacob. You are so blessed by God. That is correct be here. Thank you so much. Sorry to my competitors. Yes. You are so blessed by God. It's true. You are so blessed by God. That is correct, Jacob. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:44:10 Wow. Yeah, Tom Mankiewicz was, that was his first, that was his directorial debut. And in the case of the other movies, Marie Antoinette was Coppola's third movie Sofia Coppola's third movie after Suicides and translation Let me get this straight Tom Mankiewicz gets to direct a movie with Tom Hanks, and it's his first film yeah It does that was like something with Ever today Wow and then Erwin Winkler directed ever today. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:42 And then Erwin Winkler directed the other one, The Net. And that was his third movie after Guilty by Suspicion and Night in the City. Night in the City, what a great title. There's a city, some scenes take place at night. Really tells you a lot about it. So Jacob, congratulations. You won that game. This feels really good. Thank you so much. But just for fun, let's play the, you know,
Starting point is 00:45:15 let's talk about the other questions that I had prepared. What do you think, panel, about Albert Brooks turned down a role in this film? The great Albert Brooks said no thank you to either The Net or Dragnet or Marie Antoinette. It'd be so sick if it was Marie Antoinette. Yeah, the role that went to Jason Schwartzman. He has to have turned down a role in Dragnet. And then you're going to clean up by saying it's the net, and then he's going to be the director.
Starting point is 00:45:50 No, it was Dragnet. He was offered the Tom Hanks role and passed on it, apparently. And then. Because of the director. Because it's a brand new director. Yeah, that might have been it. And then. Is that movie funny? Oh, I didn't see it. I didn't see it. Yeah. I might have been it. And then, um.
Starting point is 00:46:05 Is that movie funny? Oh, I didn't see it. Yeah. I saw it when it first came out. I don't remember. It's got, like, the thing people. Does it have hot gags and funny cakes? It's got a car chase.
Starting point is 00:46:14 The thing people quoted all the time is that there was a character that they would consistently refer to as the Virgin Connie Swale. They, like, said that over and over again. Like, isn't it funny that this lady's a virgin and that we address her as such. There's a scene in the movie it's a main character something physical happens to them. It's not making me want to see it. Doug is it one of your questions or I'm just curious what year was Dragnet I'm trying to remember.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Was it like 92, 91? Dragnet, I want to say almost like in the 80s maybe. Oh, could have been. Maybe like 86 or something. Around the Turner and Hooch. But that might have been the net. Because these three movies are all in different decades. But which one of these three movies do you think
Starting point is 00:47:03 was one that got away, these directors are gonna be fascinated by this, it got away with having a fuck, the word fuck in there, in a sexual context. Which one of those movies do you think the Motion Picture Association went, okay, this case will allow it?
Starting point is 00:47:21 I'm betting it's Marie Antoinette because it had the pedigree of being cool. Right, it was a fancy movie. Exactly.oinette, because it had the pedigree of being cool. Right. It was a fancy movie. So you're saying it got the PG-13 as opposed to the R? It got PG-13, but has a fuck. Normally you only get the one, and it can't be about sex. But it was a historic usage.
Starting point is 00:47:37 It's got to be more like, fuck you. It was a historic usage. Historic usage. You think Marie Antoinette also? Exactly. That was a good trick question because somehow the Sandra Bullock movie The Net gets away with a sexual use of the word fuck,
Starting point is 00:47:52 but they got a PG-13. But anyway, to reiterate, Jacob won that game. Thank you so much. Congratulations, Jacob. That means you get to go first in our final game that's going to determine our big winner tonight and we're going to play that after these messages. We'll be right back!
Starting point is 00:48:16 We're back! I really thought we had to come back from commercial when we hadn't. But the livestreamers get to see it all. They get to see all of the behind the scenes, the very exciting behind the scenes here at Douglas Movies. Jacob won that last game. So good for you, Jacob. It just means you get to go first in our last game. So good for you, Jacob.
Starting point is 00:48:45 It just means you get to go first in our final game. And we'll flip the order around. I'll go Jacob, then Jay, then Paul, then Ellery. In a brand new game that I came up with in honor of, Paul, your movie, Spy, is, I love it. I think it's the most, it's so infinitely rewatchable motion pictures so I came up with a game that I call Spy Game. I found an article in Esquire magazine published in August of last year so pretty fresh, that listed the 25 best spy movies
Starting point is 00:49:29 ever made. So the four of you are going to take turns guessing the names of spy movies that you think would be on this list. The higher up your movie is on the list, the more points you get. You'll each get three cracks at it, and at any point, your first guess, your second guess, or your third guess, you can go to the person in the audience that you're playing on behalf of and ask them for
Starting point is 00:50:01 your help. Somebody's, Blada's already panicking. Like, do you know it? Don't say it out loud, but do you know any movies that had spies in them? Like spy movies? I don't remember. Don't remember? I got your back, Blada, I got your back. Well, you can get help,
Starting point is 00:50:16 or maybe Paul won't even need your help. We'll have to wait and see. Jacob, you're up first. I'm gonna go any what you think would be a spy movie I'm this is a move for me. I'm just kind of testing the range here seeing the scope I'm gonna go awesome powers the spy who shagged me Just seeing where we are seeing how big the spectrum goes your answer is Austin powers the spy that shagged me, is in the 25 best spy movies according to. That's what you're saying? According. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:50:52 According. That positing is possible. Have you ever read Esquire? No, I can't, you know, I'm not a big fan. Okay, well I don't blame you, because Esquire is not for us. Who's it for? You should have guessed Agent Cody Banks. Dang it! Hey, you shouldn't be saying other spy movies.
Starting point is 00:51:12 That's not what's gonna be on the list. Oh, okay, if you say so. If you say so, he was a spy. I do recall. All right, so Jacob, unfortunately, Austin Powers and Spider Shaggy did not make the top 25. That's bullshit!
Starting point is 00:51:31 But you said you were like feeling your way, feeling how it's going to go. I think I helped everybody in a way. I think you did. I think you did. Jay, what's your first guess? No Way Out. No Way Out with Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Great movie. Not on the list. Whoa. I know, right? You're already like, what kind of list? Now you know how I feel. Would not have. What kind of list would not have No Way Out?
Starting point is 00:52:02 It's true. That is such sacrilege. But Paul, before you answer, in case you're thinking, should I say spy? I will not. In case you thought that, I'm sad to say that it is not on the list. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:52:18 I know this list. You do? Well, I mean, I read it looking for my movie. I don't remember what was on it. But I remember that I was not on it. When it happened, you were like, we're a spy. Yeah, totally. It's movies about spies, and I'm the only movie that's
Starting point is 00:52:31 called Spy so directly. A little cruel, Doug, to bring up this game and then have this guy on. I started with how much I love Spy, because I don't think this list really, I don't think it's legit. There you go. Is Cody Banks on there?
Starting point is 00:52:50 Number one, two, and three. One with a bullet. Yeah. Did they make more Cody Banks movies? No, it's just that good. They had to give it the first three. Three times. I think there are two, actually.
Starting point is 00:52:59 Oh, good for Cody. Yeah, I'm a bit of an auteur. Cody Banks, two, banking in the getting. Yeah. Yeah. Straight to the bank shot. Back to bank six. Cody in the West Bank, I think it is.
Starting point is 00:53:12 In the West Bank. All right, Paul, what's your first guess, Paul? I'm going to put on my Esquire hat and say a gold finger, because that's always at the top of everybody's heads. Right? Yeah. It should totally be in the top of everybody's head. Right? It should totally be in here, but it isn't. Really?
Starting point is 00:53:28 What's happening? What is happening? This is called a game that anybody could win. And the way that you can win is by just saying some random thing that is randomly on this list, because I don't agree with this list. I'm going to be honest with you. But there are some great movies on this list. Ellery?
Starting point is 00:53:53 I'm going to guess Skyfall. Nice. See, that's another terrific guess. And we have four goose eggs. That's crazy. So far, four misses. That's crazy. It's zero. Oh, shit. There's three is four. Four of nothing. Man, oh man. Yeah It's zero. Oh, shit. There's please four of nothing.
Starting point is 00:54:05 Yeah. Man, oh, man. Yeah, Jacob, you tested the waters? Yeah. With us and powers? I'm going to go. The thing going through my head right now is do I try and play the game, or do I do a joke answer?
Starting point is 00:54:20 Which is just, you know. Well, you know, a joke answer, as long as it's obviously a joke, is fine, you know. But do you want to go to your lifeline, maybe? How are you feeling about spy movies, my friend? You can't ask some questions other than name a spy movie. I can't do that, and that was not allowed. That what I did was an example of what not to do. You don't want to find, you can't ask where they're at with it.
Starting point is 00:54:38 But I think they'll be pretty good. I'm going to guess, I'm going to guess GoldenEye. 007 GoldenEye. There's gotta be one 007 movie. There's gotta be a James Bond movie on this gosh damn list. Gold Nine? GoldenEye. Oh, GoldenEye. Yeah, wait.
Starting point is 00:54:55 GoldenEye. We all thought he said Gold Nine. I'm like, is that a Bond movie? I'm Gold Nine, Mr. Bunch! GoldenEye is number 21 on the list. Let's go! Wait, over Goldfinger? Oh, come on.
Starting point is 00:55:13 Esquire, what the hell? I don't know why Esquire's doing it. You know, these are often written by one person. They act like the whole staff got together and really debated what to put on the list. And they're just like, let's just let Mel do it. All right, so Jacob's on the board with an amazing five points.
Starting point is 00:55:34 Feels good. Yeah, but we go back to Jay. Born Identity. Who finds this whole thing to be suspicious. Let me see here, Jay. You said it with such conviction, I'm going to say it's on the list even if it isn't. Number 18 on the list.
Starting point is 00:55:52 Jay takes the lead with eight points. Oh, man, there we go. Very exciting. All right, Blayda, I got this. OK, Paul. You got to, again, you got to think Esquire's. Now you got to think Hedy. Right.
Starting point is 00:56:04 Bridge of Spies. Oh, that is a terrific guess. Number 15 on the list. Wow. That's worth 11 points, so Paul is now in the lead. Ellery, what are you going to do about that? If this, I'm going to guess something that might not count as a spy movie.
Starting point is 00:56:25 Oh, that's an interesting approach. Do you want to use your lifeline? We might know a spy movie. I think that this is a good guess and you'll see why once I say it, but I don't know if it's actually the conversation. Number three on the list. Oh, nice. Nice.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Brother, thank you. One of the best movies ever made. He's peeling away Yes! Nice. Brother, thank you. One of the best movies ever made. Oh my goodness. He's peeling away the floorboards at the end of it. Why did you think that's not a spy movie? It's about a guy spying on people. Because he's not a spy though.
Starting point is 00:56:51 He's like a, he does the, you know, the audio work. He's good at recording. Yeah, he's like a sound supervisor. He tries to stay out of it. Well, he tries to. Yeah, but he hears the conversation. Exactly! And now he's involved.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Best Gene Hackman movie. Fight me on it. 100%. So good. 100% with the other one. Great score, too. Great music. David Shire.
Starting point is 00:57:14 All from the Universal Music Group. I love those fucking guys. They do good work. OK, Jacob, you've really been stretching it out. You've really been getting ready for this moment. This is huge for me. Do you want to go to your lifeline or do you want to? I don't, I'm not getting a confident or an.
Starting point is 00:57:34 I'm so sorry to say that. You can reject what your lifeline, Jacob, you can reject what your lifeline says and then say your own. Oh, then let's participate together and see how close we can get. Let's find out. Yeah. One of the Mission Impossibles?
Starting point is 00:57:52 Wow. She says one of the Mission Impossibles. What do you do with that? I think that's very helpful. And I appreciate that. Which one does Esquire like most is the question. Baby, they're all on here. Oh God, which one can you remember the correct title of that's a great question. That's
Starting point is 00:58:11 That's that's good Mission impossible ghost protocol Not on the list Hey, I'm not mad at you, I'm just mad. No, I'm just kidding. She's gonna leave tomorrow. Is Men Who Stare at Goats a spy movie? Your guess is over. Next.
Starting point is 00:58:34 That's fine. That's really fair. It's about the male and female, but I don't know if it's necessarily spies. Born Supremacy. Jay. Jay, that was smart. You hit, you struck oil with a born identity, so you're going supremacy. Can you name all the born movies?
Starting point is 00:58:52 Well, you'll have to wait till my next turn. Well, this is it, man. This is your last shot. I can't name the other one. Would you like assistance? There's born. The Born Protocol? I think it's born. No. Would you like assistance? There's Born. The Born Protocol? I think it's all.
Starting point is 00:59:05 No. Born. Ultimatum? Born again. Born Ultimatum free. Born Ultimatum. Born Supremacy. And then there was, yeah, there was another Born.
Starting point is 00:59:15 God damn it, it's Jason Bourne. Yeah, there was a Bourne with another guy. The Born Initiative. The Born Initiative. The Born. Yeah. The Born Memo. That was a short. So what's your final answer?
Starting point is 00:59:30 Supremacy. Incorrect. Dang. Oh, I was pulling for you. Yeah, I mean, they put board identity on the list. What do you think? Are you crazy? Board supremacy is a better movie.
Starting point is 00:59:39 Name a bunch of them? Really? Why is it better? Because there's the most incredible car chase in the Moscow tunnels. And it opens with this incredible car chase in India. It's just fantastic. What's the name of that writer's name? Robert Ludlum?
Starting point is 00:59:55 No, the Asquire one. It's his first initial E, last name Squire. All right. Does he wear a top hat? All right, this is coming down to it. This is very exciting. You still have a chance to win this thing, Paul, if you can come up with one of the top ones.
Starting point is 01:00:14 What do you got? You want to go to your lifeline, or do you want to? No, I'm going to go Heady here. No offense there, Blayden. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Oh, yeah. That's a good guess. It's in the title.
Starting point is 01:00:25 It's right there. Right. It doesn't have the word spy in there. Yeah. Is that technically cheating? I wrote down Tinker, Taylor, et cetera. So it's on the list. Number 16 on the list.
Starting point is 01:00:38 Yeah, come on. 10 more points for Paul. There we go. Not enough to win. Oh, no. Ellery, do you want to put the final nail in the coffin of this particular game? OK, here's my math on this guess. I'm going to guess that they included one comedy movie,
Starting point is 01:01:04 but it wouldn't be like, it might not be the comedy movie that we would all think. But I'm going to guess that they included one comedy movie, but it wouldn't be like, it might not be the comedy movie that we would all think, but I'm going to guess Get Smart. Oh. If that movie had turned out better, maybe it would have. I wasn't going to say that. I was going to let you say it. It was a disappointment. I mean, I thought it was fine.
Starting point is 01:01:17 I didn't hate it, but it was just a, you know. It's also the only other spy movie I could think of. It didn't get people re-excited about Get Smart. Great TV series. Yeah. Oh, it's a classic, of course. Mel Brooks, are you kidding me? But no, the new Get Smart, where Bill Murray plays a tree,
Starting point is 01:01:36 is not on this list. But just because of that answer with the conversation, Oh, I nailed it. that you thought wasn't even a spy movie. Well, it's kind of not. You are our winner tonight, Ellery Smith. Thank you so much. Did it. We got to get all these prizes to the proper person.
Starting point is 01:01:58 So make sure you, who was it again? Who were you playing for? Stand up in the front, Chicago. Oh, shit. Chicago. You got to take all this stuff back to Chicago? Oh, yeah. Wait.
Starting point is 01:02:08 We should give the liquid to some. Did you check it back? I'm driving to Joshua Tree next. You're going to take all this stuff to Joshua Tree? Yeah, he's going to read the book there. He loaded read a book. Yeah, read a book. Great vacation.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Have some weird snacks from Severance and some delicious gin from Palfi. And then there's a big bag that you can put it all in, but it's hard to get it in there. Do you want to come get everything now or do you want to wait until the show's over? Yeah, give him a wave. You can do it now. Look at this guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:39 Be careful with it. Let's hear it for our winner. Yeah. Okay. That's one way to do it. Let's hear it for our winner. Yeah, okay that's one way to do it. Nice! Congratulations! So Ellery you get to... The record. I'm using it, yeah I'm using it as a... after all these years I'm like oh a clipboard would come in handy. Could you tell by your shoes? No, the gripboard would come in handy. Yeah, I can tell.
Starting point is 01:03:05 Could you tell by his shoes? No, the grip, the hand grip. No, it was the shoes for me. It's written all over you. Look at the hole. He's really running off. He's going to Jay Tree. He's running off with all that stuff.
Starting point is 01:03:13 He's going to Josh and get you in a boulder there. You can hitch a boulder. Sure, sure, sure, sure. Jacob and I are gay comedians, that's why we know. It's a, I swear to God, if you go to any bouldering gym in Los Angeles, that's the market. Really? Yeah. It's very popular right now.
Starting point is 01:03:28 People love to climb indoors. Yes, they do. Yeah. See? Those things look like, I just get grossed out because the things you grab onto just look like somebody stuck gum to the... Yeah, they're very dirty. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:41 Ellery Smith, what would you like to promote? You get to do your plugs first. I have like 10 upcoming shows between the next two or three weeks all here in LA. So if you want to check me out, come check me out. And there is a soup kitchen I work for in Koreatown, Los Angeles called St. James Episcopal. And you should check them out. They do service days Tuesday through Saturday.
Starting point is 01:04:05 They're great people. That's awesome. Whistling. Rippin'. Not far from here, eh? No, like just right over there. Walking distance, yeah. There you go.
Starting point is 01:04:13 So let's all go, let's go after the show. Sometimes we have Prince Street pizza, so. Let's go fuck up some soup. Step by. It's not just soup. No, not just soup. Yeah, soup gets kind of unpopular. Go swing by.
Starting point is 01:04:26 Yeah. I eat lunch there every week. Great. No shame in my game. I don't care. Free food is free food. That's free food. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:35 Well, Ellery, you got the number three movie on the list, but I'm sure everybody's dying to know. It's got to be Mission Impossible. What the fuck else is on this stupid ass list? What made the cut? And here we go. I'll start at the end. Number 25 on the list.
Starting point is 01:04:56 You're not going to believe this, Jacob. Don't say. Austin Powers. Goldfinger? International man of mystery. Oh. They went with the origin. Yeah, they went with the first one.
Starting point is 01:05:10 I mixed up the first one and the second one titularly in my head. And then Jay's not going to love this next one. Or wait, I forget who it was that was dancing around Mission Impossible. But that's all you needed to say was just the first one. Mission Impossible. Oh. Yeah, number 24.
Starting point is 01:05:32 Number 23, a movie I love that like, I guess it's a spy movie but to me it's more of a telekinesis movie from the great Brian De Palma, The Fury. Oh gosh. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, that's a crazy one to be on there. And then it gets even weirder from there because number 22, Cohen Brothers, Burn After Reading.
Starting point is 01:05:56 Oh. Yeah. And then number 21 was GoldenEye. 20 from the great Stevenven spielberg munich uh... which i thought was more about a situation that about spies but then uh... number nineteen a classic the spy who came in from the cold you know that yet number seventeen is atomic blonde with solution re so there is a it's a serious that's a it is a serious is that uh...
Starting point is 01:06:27 charlie's there on and uh... then uh... number sixteen the aforementioned tinker taylor soldier spy then bridge of spies uh... then number fourteen are go uh... i guess get market moving yeah i think it's a very fun movie actually past give that one up. Zero Dark Thirty came in number 13. Are those spies or are those military people?
Starting point is 01:06:52 I think they're just trouble makers. Number 12 was The Lives of Others, a German film that I think won best foreign film this year. Eleven, Sicario. That's a great movie. People are really, I saw Sicario. These don't sound like spy movies. That's a cartel movie, that's like an ICS.
Starting point is 01:07:16 That's an art ghost movie. This guy is messing up his life. May I just say fuck this list, believe me, my movie Spy's not on here. I think they're just a bit. Yeah, your movie's actually about spies. Yeah, exactly. But I think what they're driving out with spies
Starting point is 01:07:28 is like the notion of being under, like someone being undercover. You know, someone pretending. Yeah, but that's not the definition of a spy. Thank you. Exactly. There are undercover cops. Is Superco on there?
Starting point is 01:07:39 Oh. Well, because it's an undercover, but that's a cop movie. No, Superco. There's Liar Liar on there? Yeah. That's kind of movie. No, SuperCo. Oh, there's Liar Liar on there? Yeah. That's kind of like a spy. Spy heart.
Starting point is 01:07:49 Number 10 is Charade, which is, I recommend. It's a fun, weird-ass movie. George Kennedy is weird in it. Is it a spy movie? It's weird. I guess Cary Grant's supposed to be a spy. International man of mystery kind of thing. There's a Fritz Lang silent film that came in at number nine
Starting point is 01:08:09 called Spione. Oh brother, when these film critics start pulling that shit out, I'm sorry. So highfalutin. But then number eight, we can't argue with this classic, The Manchurian Candidates from 62. Number seven is the documentary about Edward Snowden, Citizen Four.
Starting point is 01:08:30 Yeah, that's a choice. They make these lists to make people argue about what's on the list. That's how you get the clicks. Rage, babe. Number six is Notorious. Five, The Lady Vanishes. Notorious, like the Biggie Smalls movie?
Starting point is 01:08:46 Yes. It's the story of Biggie Smalls. He was a s- he was a s- He was a s- He was, he didn't know that. He died without anybody finding that out, but it's- Yeah. I think it's true.
Starting point is 01:08:57 Uh, did I say 39 Steps was number four? Oh, great. Uh, number three, The Conversation. Number two, a second James Bond movie made the list. steps is number four over uh... number three the conversation number two uh... second james bond movie made list i i was in the room and i came by that's because you know i i was gonna say that now it's from russia with long uh... i was in october since i was shot with a lot of people and i think it's hard for anybody to disagree with the number one, but again, maybe more of a action espionage man
Starting point is 01:09:28 in the wrong place movie than a spy movie. I know what it's going to be. North by Northwest. Yes, is number one on the list. But once again, Ellery Smith did it. She took home the win tonight. But let's get some plugs out of everybody else. Jacob Wysocki, great first time appearance on the show.
Starting point is 01:09:50 Thanks for having me again, I appreciate it. Really cool to be with some people that I admire and my good friend who has my worms, you know what I mean? What's the deal with you too? You were talking about worms backstage. I have a worm farm, and there's actually, you can't buy, it's hard to buy worms in Los Angeles.
Starting point is 01:10:07 The market's really strapped, and the only person you can buy them from is an eight-year-old boy, and he was in school, and so I got them from Jacob, and I got them from an improviser in the Valley, brother. It was great. It was cool, yeah. It was really cool. Ellery was just like, I need worms,
Starting point is 01:10:20 and I'm a guy who has worms, and I was like, I'd love to give you some of my worms. So now we have like worm cousins. Yeah, that's true. I think that's a lot. Yeah, we're a worm family. Do you both now have the same amount of worms? How many do you have?
Starting point is 01:10:30 I switched compost styles, so I don't have as many worms as I used to, I just have like what naturally is in the compost. What's happening? We're talking gardening. I had worms when I was a kid, but it was from eating wax lips. I had worms when I was a kid from eating wax lips. My bin system has changed. My compost system has changed.
Starting point is 01:10:50 You called the herd? Yeah. You killed them off. No, they're in my dirt. Oh, okay. I'll hit up both of you for Doug Loves Worms. This was the wrong place for this. Sorry, sorry. I got carried away.
Starting point is 01:11:04 This is your new show, Doug Loves Worms. Sorry, sorry, I got carried away. This is your new show, Doug Loves Worms. I don't know what I was doing, yeah. I want to know all about these worms, but Jay, what would you like to know about? I'm in Tulsa, the Brick Town Comedy Club, April 4th, 5th, 6th, or 3rd, 4th, and 5th, one of the two. And then I'm in Rochester, like a week or two after that.
Starting point is 01:11:30 For about three days. Do you know the name of the act club? If I did, I would have said it. You should just call it Rochester's. That was Jack Benny's. I think it's called Rochester Worms, maybe. But is there a particular place that can go to find your tour dates?
Starting point is 01:11:49 Look up, if you have Google, look up J. Chandrasekhar comedy tour dates in Tulsa and Rochester. Backslash worms. Maybe on the third. I have a lot of comedians out here that are excited to promote their dates. This is the first time somebody's just been like, just Google it.
Starting point is 01:12:10 Why do I have to? If you're that into me, you're already trying to figure out where I'm gonna be. You don't need me to say, but thank you for being here, dude. Could I be so bold and reclaim my worm time for a proper plug? Oh shit, that's all we talked about was worms? Yeah, I kind of just talked about worms for too long.
Starting point is 01:12:28 All right, would you? That's on me. Are you anxious to talk about rats instead? Yeah, I feel like I have to do that at this point. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Follow me at all social medias at Jacob Isaki. Please check out Rats on VOD. And I'm in another great indie movie that's on VOD right now
Starting point is 01:12:43 called Breakup Season. Check that out, and you can Google my name and see when I do shows. I'm in LA all the time. You see me at Legion Theater. W-Y-S-O-C-K-I. Correct. You nailed it. Thanks, Doug. That's so nice. Because it's like those, that Y and that I, you could flip them. And people do. You can flip them and that'd still be your name.
Starting point is 01:13:00 It's also a name people look at and they just don't even try. I'm sure you can relate. They just don't even try. I'm sure you can relate. They just don't even try. Yeah. Paul Feig. Yes. Tell us about your worms, Paul. Yes, well, you know, I finally got rid of them. Another simple favor drops on Amazon on May 1.
Starting point is 01:13:19 It's really fun. It's Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick and a bunch of great people. Really fun. You can get ArtingStall's gin all over the country. Go to ArtingStall's gin.com to find out where Jay is playing. And then I have a book out called Cocktail Time, The Ultimate Guide to Grown-Up Fun, which
Starting point is 01:13:37 you can buy anywhere. There you go. Wow. So are your favorite cocktails gin-based? Yes, martinis. Yes. Martini fanatic. My superpowers, I make the world's best martini.
Starting point is 01:13:49 There you go. So come on over. Do you have a bar in your home? Yeah, we got a bar in our guest house. Oh. Very nice. Come on by. Doug is going to be, that's me.
Starting point is 01:14:04 I'm going to be, as I mentioned earlier, I'll be in Rosemont and Chicago on May 4th and 5th. And then I'll be at the Mic Drop Comedy Club in Plano, Texas, coming up that following weekend, I think. Like Jay's plug, I'll say, in the May 7 to 9 range is when I will be there. And thanks again to everyone who attended tonight. Everyone's watching on the livestream. Everyone at Dynasty Typewriter.
Starting point is 01:14:40 And my guests, Paul Fiegg, Jay Shandrasegar, Jacob Wysocki, and our winner, Ellery Smith. Woo! Woo! As always, thank you, thank you. I'm glad it's off my mind at last. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Heyes of gold is viewing prowess makes it cocky. There's no room in his heart for you,
Starting point is 01:15:10 cause Doug loves movies!
