Doug hates candy wrappers screaming maybe sticky seeds with 50 as a pop or kernels in his teeth.
There's still not one that he won't see because Doug.
Hey, hey, hey, everybody.
My name is Doug and I love movies.
This is Doug Loves Movies recording on Wednesday afternoon, March 18th, 2026.
And my guest today are three returning champions.
They are Joe Quazala, Sam Levine, and Aaron Tracy.
Hello, gentlemen.
Hello.
Let's meet them individually and alphabetically by first name.
He is back after his win last very week.
The last week's episode, this gentleman, the creator and host of the secret world
of Roll Dahl podcast.
It's Aaron Tracy.
Hey, Aaron.
Hey, Doug.
Thanks for having me back.
Welcome back.
It's, you know, awesome that your first time out on the show, you pulled off a win,
and then you're available to return right away.
We made some Oscar predictions last week.
None of those came true.
Oh, yeah.
We screwed those up.
Yeah.
But, you know, I was.
I was worried about your prediction in the moment.
I didn't want to, like,
anyway,
it would be a negative Nelly,
but I had,
I didn't have a great feeling about,
uh,
Marty supremacy at the,
uh,
Oscar.
I love Marty Supreme so much.
I was disappointed.
It's very,
very good,
but it also doesn't celebrate anything.
Hmm.
You know what I mean?
In a time when we sort of need a movie to be like,
yes,
this thing we should all support this but yeah it's very i just you know i'm really interested
to see what else that guy comes up with because just the turning of the screws like you know
after uncut gems i was just like well you can't make them you know it's about ping pong how can it be
as intense as uncut gems and then of course every crazy fucking thing in the world happens like
one of my top fears that I'm just going to be trying to take a bath and fall through the ceiling.
Yeah, it was like a perfect blend of uncut gems and Crotty Kid Part 2, like a fun underdog sports movie with that insanity of uncut gems.
Yeah, I love it so much.
Yeah, it's definitely on my, you know, I just don't feel like I have the time with all the new movies to come out these days.
I just don't revisit things that often,
but Marty's going to get another look from me at some point.
Also joining us today is a man who,
not unlike Oscar winner, Michael B. Jordan,
plays a dual role in the film that he wrote.
See, Michael B. Jordan riot himself.
This is real talent.
Joe Quasola. Hey, Joe.
Hey, I was really trying to figure out how you were going to land the plane with, like Michael, Michael B. Jordan.
But yeah, we are very similar in our...
You have that in common. You just don't see it.
Yeah.
In the last calendar year, you know, you and he are the only examples of dual roles, I think.
I mean, there's also Robert Pattinson.
Oh, well, he played 17 roles. That was doomed to fail.
come on he could do three or four characters tops right 17 is pushing it mr patinson
they were more than 17 right wasn't he like cloned oh that was a lot of that was the tip of
the iceberg dog wait which movie was that uh bicky 17 oh yeah missed that one oh dude you didn't
miss anything it's a lot of great talent putting in the effort you know and it's bonoing it's
Bong Joon Ho, so there's stuff in it that is good.
Yeah.
His English language movies, I think, are not as good as, yeah.
Yeah.
Not quite hitting parasite levels with that one.
But, you know, there's stuff to like in it.
It's kind of messy.
How did we get on?
I think we got on it because I was about to say Mickey 17 is no Alto Knights.
Oh, good.
Where we were heading, I'm sure.
I didn't even see the Alto Knights.
No, I did not either.
But it's got a dual role.
Bobby D.
De Niro plays two guys in all to know auton nights, yeah.
Oh my God.
Snubbed.
Do they, and do they differentiate it like one has a red hat and one has a blue hat?
Truly, I think one has a hat and the other one doesn't.
Yeah.
I mean, the head gear is so crucial as we both know because in your movie American comic,
Like you and the stylist for the film, whoever that was, decided that I would wear a bucket hat.
Yes.
And bucket hats, I don't know if you've noticed, but they're making a big comeback lately.
Totally.
And I think you and I are on the, you know, on the edge of this bucket hat resurgence.
Absolutely.
I would credit both of us in bringing bucket hats back to the mainstream.
Finally, where they belong.
Yeah.
I mean, most of the ones I've seen are more like, you know, for a lady bucket hats.
Like, I don't know about the jury is still out on a man bucket hat.
I'm like, has, has Timmy? Has Timmy Salome?
I bet he's.
He has definitely walked around out in public in a bucket hat.
There's no way he hasn't.
Yeah.
I may have told this story on the show before, but I went to one of those industry
screenings for Marty Supreme.
And Salome, he was one of the few.
people the entire season because I got to go see everything this last season because I was on
the SAG nominating committee and so yeah which is the best lottery it's the best thing to get in
the mail that you've been chosen for that because you just you just get to see everything and then
the stars show up to every single uh screening I saw some movies are like so not even remotely
deserving of a warrant attention but you know I got to see you know somebody talk afterwards it was
interesting to see but uh but
the Marty Supreme one, he actually
stood around and took pictures. Like, he's really,
the real politician about it. Like, everybody else would just scatter
after these things because there's so many, you know,
creeps in the audience. But he stuck around
for pictures. So I took a picture with him. And I was wearing a purple
beanie at the time. And
he pointed at it. Like, he feels like he had to, he felt like
he had to say something to each person. So he pointed
at my hat and said purple.
like a baby
it was very baby like
he was just sort of going around
describing what he was seeing
well taking pictures with people
and he throws up to like the peace sign
when he takes pictures with people
so I have very mixed feelings about him
he feels like a Jared Letto in the making
let's hope not
but I still love him I still love him
I still think he's crazy talented
and just misunderstood
agreed
the last time you were on joe you beat the great jeff tate at his own game and uh today you go up against someone
uh you are no stranger to having competed with him a couple of times on the show i don't know what your
record against one another is but it's sam the man love you oh oh hey sam i love your singing voice i don't hear it enough
Oh, my God.
I hate it.
So that was an enthusiasm that made that happen, you know.
Okay.
It was more like I was, if we were in an auditorium, I could have really said your name really loud.
Sure.
But, you know, for a podcast, it's unnecessary.
So it became singing.
You're a professional and you know how to project your voice.
You were back after the huge win at the 12th.
guest of Christmas in December.
What have you been up to since then, Sam?
So I've been on a 33 city tour.
I've had 33 parades thrown in my honor for having won the 12 guests of Christmas.
I highly recommend everyone does that who wins.
Have a parade.
Yeah, it's been a terrific couple months.
I don't think, I feel like Joe and Aaron are just now hearing that that's even an option.
and they blew it because they may not be champions anymore after today.
Right.
Well, no, you only get that if you win the 12 guests.
Oh, I see.
Okay.
Well, I'm very excited to say that 12 guests is happening again in December,
pretty much around the same date, if not the exact same date.
And we will be promoting that as the year goes on.
But guess what?
It's March.
Oh, wow.
So let's talk about the special Easter show.
I don't have an Easter show.
Before we play some games today, I would like each one of you to recommend one movie starting with Aaron.
What have you got for us, Aaron?
What should people see?
So I really liked Richard Glingletters two movies this year.
People didn't talk about Nevillevog enough and Blue Moon was so great.
But my favorite of his is the movie I always recommend to people.
everybody wants them.
It's like a decade old,
but it is just like the most fun.
Like you can't watch that movie and not have a great time.
I don't know how I pulled it off, Aaron,
but I, for some reason that one was a miss for me.
And I feel I blame myself because when I hear people speak of it,
they're very into it.
But I don't know, is it, do you think I went in with like,
because it's different from days and confused, but it's sort of the same in that it's got
it's very time period centric and also that age group.
Yeah.
I mean, I think you're right.
I think expectations are everything.
So if you were going in expecting days and confused, I can see why you were disappointed.
But I think it's just kind of the ultimate, like people talk about hangout movies where you can
just turn it on, you know, half an hour in, an hour in, whatever and just watch it and have a good time.
I think this is like the perfect example of that.
It's got a great cast.
It's Glenn Powell.
It's a great soundtrack.
They're just like having fun in the 80s.
It's a great story.
Zoe Dutch is it.
Yeah, I kind of think it's a perfect movie.
It's a good one to, you know, watch at this time now that Glenn Powell is, you know,
we're seeing it so much of him.
But, you know, it was probably his breakout role.
And then it took him a while after that to genuinely break out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was like a decade ago. So it was years before a top gun.
Yeah. And what is it, what is it that they want some of?
That's the, that's why it's so deep, Doug.
Is that a straight up sex thing?
No, it's not like a like a, you know, a college, lose your virginity, whatever.
It's, uh, they're just trying to figure out, uh, how to get through, you know, a long weekend,
how to have fun.
It's like any of blink letters movies.
They're thinking big thoughts.
They've got some existential crises amongst them.
But they're also, yeah, dating and having fun.
Maybe the full title is everybody wants some adult beverages.
Or, you know what I mean?
Something that everybody would want at that time.
It's also the rare movie with two exclamation marks at the end of it.
When was last time he saw a title?
With two exclamation marks.
That's why I didn't like it.
Well, I think it's because like Dason confused,
it's a reference to a song
and the song, the Van Halen song
has two exclamation points.
Oh, there you go. There it is.
So they had to be true to the source.
Joe dropping knowledge.
Yeah, I'm just going to skip ahead to the end
and say Joe is our winner today.
That's fine. I fully support this.
Yeah, that was intimidating.
That was really something.
And days of confuse this from a
Grateful Dead song or something.
Led Zeppelin.
Let's Zeppelin.
grateful that may have been days of them.
All right. Joe, what's your recommendation?
Well, speaking of music, I have a podcast about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where we are covering this year's ballot, which just came out.
And one of the things I like to do if I can is I will seek out a documentary on somebody who's on the ballot to try and educate myself.
and I really enjoyed the Luther Vandros documentary,
Luther, colon, never too much.
Whoa.
Yeah, it was, I think it began,
it was in theaters, but it was, I think,
initially a CNN documentary.
It's on HBO Max now.
What I, what was, I mean, he has a really interesting story,
and there's a lot of great footage
because he was a guy who started out with the group
called Listen, My Brother,
that was on, like, the first episode of Sesame Street.
And there's all this footage of him, like,
singing the numbers, like soulfully counting us to 20. But then he also was like the most in
demand commercial jingle singer in like the late 70s. And so there's all this great footage of,
you know, Miller beer commercials or Greyhound Buss or him singing about some restaurant called
Gino's where he's going, it's suzal and hot. And it's just, and not to mention just, you know,
he had a very long and celebrated career,
but they talk about it in the movie,
he had this kind of crossover conundrum
that plagued a few black artists of that era
where black audiences see Luther Vandros as like a, without question,
legend who they can name a dozen songs.
But to white audiences, and like myself,
I'm like, oh, yeah, I think I know two Luther's songs,
and I didn't get a good sense of how massive he was
and how deep the catalog was.
And so the documentary really came through in educating me.
Yeah, that stuff is really cool.
I attempted to watch all 50 films of varying lengths
that were nominated for Oscars this year.
And I got closer than I usually do.
I ended up seeing 44 out of the 50.
And one of the ones I had to sit through,
and I say that because I went into it,
like this is why I got to sit through this because every year I watch you know I'll watch an entire
movie just because an original song in it got nominated in that original song category and it tends
to be a song written by a diane Warren and then she tends to lose because it's maybe a good
song but it's in a movie nobody cared about so so now finally they made this documentary
about Diane Warren
and partially about her obsession
with winning an Oscar
and I cannot tell you
as a person, as an individual
and as an artist,
I have so much respect for her
and enjoy her very much.
And to top it off,
the fact that she does a documentary
about herself where she,
part of it is she keeps getting nominated
for an Oscar and she keeps losing
and then that movie has an original song
that gets nominated for an Oscar and loses
that's I mean come on
Well that's you know that's how
You know eventually ended
As she lost again the other night
Like the song that's the most massive
Hit song in the entire world
Yeah
So that was tough competition
But but she just is
You know she's she's got a weird personality
And a really serious work ethic
And like every single celebrity
Amazing singer that she wrote great songs
for or hit songs for, I shouldn't say.
They all had bad things to say about her too in her own documentary.
So it's very interesting.
And it's a fun watch if I was recommending something.
But I didn't see this, but my girlfriend told me that there were people who were
mistaking Diane Warren for Galane Maxwell.
Oh, my red carpet.
They were like, get her out of it.
there. She should be in jail.
I think both of those ladies
would hate to hear that.
Yeah, I think you're right.
Boy, that's just
it's spot on, but it's
also terrible.
But anyway, she's
she's really
funny. Her favorite pose and photographs
because they show old photographs is
flipping off the camera. Like, she's that kind
of person. That's so funny,
because her music does not reflect that kind of
rebellious edge at all.
no no no it's very that's the other thing is she's never really had a significant other she's
she's been single for the most part her whole life and um and likes it that way and so they're like
how do you write all these romantic songs and she's just like well it's just i'm just a storyteller
just imagine it from somebody else's point of view it's like okay
then what do you get the oscar knobs every year but and they gave her an honorer or
one a couple years ago.
Yeah.
So she has an Oscar,
but it's so funny that she just
really wants to win one outright.
She knows it doesn't count.
I know.
It's so weird.
Wow.
It's so weird how an honor Oscar.
Sam,
yep.
What do you got?
So this is a film from the early 2000s,
and it stars a pal of mine
who we just lost James Vander
it's called the Rules of Attraction.
And, you know, it kind of flew a little bit under the radar when it opened.
But it's sort of since become kind of a cult classic.
And, you know, look, I don't know that it's, you know, it's going to make any top 100
movies of all time lists, but it is an interesting watch.
And certainly for James as an actor, you know, I thought it was the most unlikable character.
he's ever portrayed by a pretty significant margin.
And I don't know, there's a lot of young, talented actors in this film and a real creepy
Eric Stoltz in there.
And it's one of, I think, four official adaptations of Brett Easton Ellis novels.
And yeah, I don't know.
I like, I've always been a big American psycho fan.
less than zero was not a particularly truthful adaptation.
But I thought this one was pretty cool.
And certainly if you're like me still thinking about James,
who we lost way too soon, check out the roles of attraction.
I think he's terrific in it.
And yeah, there you go.
Really, that was great, Sam.
I had a lot of thoughts during that.
Okay.
And, you know, it's so hard.
to go back and sort through them all,
but I will say rules of attraction.
It's funny that the second most despicable character he's ever played after that
is himself on the B in apartment.
Right. Don't trust the B.
Don't trust the B.
Which part of what was it?
I believe it's 23.
23. Yeah.
Okay.
Oh, which is good because it rhymes with B.
Yeah.
Don't trust them.
easy.
Yeah, they were lucky it was censored
because I don't think there's an apartment 20, Thrich.
Yeah, well, and also don't get me started about to see an apartment 27.
That's not getting picked up.
No, I don't think so.
They're not going to get that.
Yes, rules of attraction.
That movie, I just remember it being, you know, I mean, I guess, Brett Easton Ellis,
what else are you going to expect?
but it just kind of a cold
a cold experience
but he does a really good job
in that role.
Yeah.
I always thought he was great in it
and my pal Thomasia Nicholas
you guys remember him as
he was in the American Pie movie
sure he was a kid he was rookie the year
and he was just this absolute loser
in that movie
who has this like fight scene almost with
Vanderbeek who was trying to get him out of his car
and I've talked to both of them about that.
I think that was like the first scene they had to shoot together.
And the director, I want to say it's Roger Avery, like gave them different notes where he told Vanderbake like under no circumstances do you leave the car.
And he told Thomas E.Neglos like, do everything in your power to get him out of this car.
And so it's you can definitely feel that if you know that that's the notes they've been given when you've,
watch it again.
So I don't know.
Check it out.
I think it's a cool movie.
Yeah.
And you enjoy watching two close friends,
act like complete A-holes.
I do because in real life,
all of the ones are lovely.
Yes.
Well, thank you for Sam,
for a real recommendation
for once in your damn life.
And...
Happy to watch.
Aaron and Joe,
if you didn't know,
Sam spent a long time
recommending nonsense
but backing it up
with the kind of passion he had for this one
today and it was
stuff that some of the times he hadn't even seen
it.
How long did it go on
for Sam? Oh, I think it was like 22
or 23
total
recommendations.
What was it? Each time
it was the next letter in the alphabet?
No, it was a bill to the title.
Oh, all right. Each title led it to the next.
one.
Oh my God.
All right.
And I just,
I never,
I,
how did it end up being stopped?
Some,
some,
uh,
of your,
of the fans,
uh,
picked up on it.
I got a little,
stuck around dream.
It was Requiem for a dream,
a little dream house.
Yeah,
I think it's something like that.
Oh my God.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Well,
thanks for all those recommendations,
fellas.
And we will be back to play some games after this.

is called whose tagline
is it anyway
I'll say a tagline
from
Are you okay
Do you need some pepto
Sorry I don't have any animals
But a dog just walked into my office
That noise
I don't know how that happens
Got to be careful
Yeah
Zoom usually is good at
You know
Getting rid of the background noises
So that dog must be right
Right on your hot mic
him right up, yeah, sorry about that.
I'll say a tagline from a motion picture.
Sam will go,
and then you tell me what movie it's for.
Aaron's going to go first if he misses, Joe gets us back at it, et cetera,
and there will be a theme today.
Oh, boy.
So that might help you come up with an answer.
Any questions that are?
I guess I don't have the advantage of figuring out the theme if I go first, but all right, I'm ready.
Right.
Well, I mean, none of the three of you will really know the theme until after the first title is revealed.
But maybe you'll just get it anyway.
You've nailed some pretty, you know, pretty tough stuff last week.
I know.
I've spent all week trying to figure out how I can like make money off of that.
I didn't know I had that skill.
it's so not monetizable
that's right
the tagline is
only the mad
survive
only the mad survive
something like
which was the first
that was the working title
of only the good die young
it feels like you know
it's going to be something like
one foot over the cuckoo's nest
but I can't imagine it's that
there was another
there was a comedy one foot of the cuckoo's answer.
Run us through every title that you felt
I'm going to say
I'm going to say the dream team.
Oh, that's fun.
That's a great answer.
Yeah, see, you have great answers,
but not the correct answer in this case.
Joe, what do you think it is?
One flew over the Cuccafussamast.
I mean, he really sold it and then didn't pick it as his answer,
but no, it's not that.
But I, mad is definitely a word that they used in taglines a lot in the 70s.
But what do you think it is, Sam?
Oh, I have absolutely no idea.
I will say, the gods must be crazy.
It seems like my fit.
I don't know.
Right.
Only the gods survive.
Kind of a little, little mini, micro clue in the tagline because the word from the titles in the tagline, it's Mad, Max, Fury,
road.
Aha.
All right.
All right.
So that's the first answer.
So now we're back to you, Aaron.
And, you know, now you might start to be able to figure out the theme.
It might still be a little early.
But the tagline is, welcome to the reckoning.
Is the theme that a word for movie?
I'll say welcome to Mooseport.
Oh, that is a fun theme.
But I would have pointed it out in the very first.
one. It's not welcome to Mooseport, but
it's all Bowerheads for Gene Hackman's last movie.
All right, P.
Joe?
Oh, goodness. Well, I really liked what Aaron was suggesting
as the, maybe the title is in
the tagline. And you said that's not the case.
Yeah. But I'd always be lying, I guess.
I guess so. It was welcome to.
to The Reckoning?
Uh-huh.
Aye, aye, yay.
Mission Impossible.
Dead Reckoning.
Part one.
Yeah, see, that's a good answer, too.
But Sam knows what it is.
I do?
I know.
Scooby knows.
I don't know.
The Reckoning?
Oh, that's fun.
No, that's the tagline for one of many.
I got many to choose from
I tried to pick one that wouldn't be too obvious
That's from the Dark Night Rises
Oh
Yeah
Welcome to the Reckon
Welcome to the Reckon.
Welcome to it
Okay
Next up
Back to Aaron
Survival is a victory
Survival is a victory
Uh
How about that
documentary what was that called um hands on a hard body wow yeah because there's so many fatalities
in those times to survive it's just victory in and of itself joe uh hunger games no sam
this one i do know because it was my wife's favorite film that year it's dunkirk
Dunkirk is correct
Sam Levine is on the board
He's got one
The movie so far Mad Max
Peary Road
Dark Night Rises
Dunkirk
Aaron here's round four
What movie has the tagline
Every second counts
Oh man
I don't see the pattern yet
Every second counts
Every second counts
the Johnny Depp vehicle
Nick of Time
Oh
that was that real time thing
Yeah
Christopher Walkin maybe
Yep Chris Walker
Yep Chris Walker
Yeah
Marsha Mason
Yeah real time thriller
Joe they're buying time for you
I think a time talk
Is it Inception
No
Sam
every second counts.
I got nothing.
Blown away.
No.
But did you bring that up
because it's a St. Patrick's stay movie?
Yes.
It is, right?
I don't, I mean, there's a lot of Irish stuff in it.
Yeah.
No, I think it really is.
Okay.
The,
answer every second it counts. F-1.
The movie.
The movie. They added the movie
to the title because people were thinking that they were going to get
an actual F-1 race car
for $20
for whatever costs for a ticket these days. I don't know.
You live in L.A. you have no idea what people are paying
to see movies.
Because it's expensive
here.
It's criminally expensive here.
It's really, really dumb.
Okay.
Back to you, Aaron.
You could do this.
You could do this.
I feel good.
I'm ready.
In fact, I feel the need, the need for speed.
Feel the need.
What a jerk.
The need for speed.
It's got to be top gun, right?
Is that your answer?
Yeah, that's my answer.
incorrect oh come on
I guess it comes to me
it is my turn
the need the need for speed
I am going to guess top gun maverick
yeah that's it
oh man so mean
that's so silly
but yeah I feel the need
the need for speed was the original
top gun one and then
feel the need the need for speed
that's how they really
they really did a rewrite on it
They just locked off the eye at the beginning of it?
And they put it ellipsies instead of a comma.
Wow.
Yeah.
So whoever got paid to do that is really, that's quite the grift.
That's like these celebrities that write a children's book.
All right.
So Joe's on the board.
Sam's on the board.
It's a tie between the two of you.
So we have to break the tie with one last one.
Sam, if you get this.
you win.
If you don't get it,
Joe gets a shot at it.
If Joe doesn't get it,
I'm going to give Aaron a shot at it.
Sounds great.
We'll see if it gets that far.
Because it's supposed to be,
it's a tiebreaker,
so it's supposed to be the easiest one.
And we still haven't figured out your theme.
Well, yeah, you don't want to say it out loud.
I don't want to tip it to anybody.
Sam.
Okay.
You can't stop the thunder.
Ooh, you can't stop.
I mean, Days of Thunder?
That is correct.
Wow.
It even has a question mark at the end, which I forgot about.
It's called Days of Thunder.
So that's, of course, Tom Cruise,
and then we had Brad Pitt in a race car,
and then we had three Tom Hardy movies.
But the thing that all of those movies had in common,
is that they feature movie stars in helmets
when we want to see their faces.
Oh, that obvious through line.
Yeah, the through line of everybody's got their face covered.
But it's funny that nobody really got,
nobody really was like, oh, it's Tom Hardy movies
after three in a row.
I guessed Inception.
That's true.
That is a good point.
Yeah, because that's exactly what I was thinking.
That's where you were going.
Okay, good.
You were playing your cards close to your chest
and it worked out because Sam won.
And that means that Sam has to go first in our next game.
No, boy.
We're going to play right after the break.
We'll be right back.
The break is over.
We are back.
And it's time to play.
Do you have to press a button to make that noise, Sam?
Or do you call the dog over?
I don't have a dog.
He just walked in.
I don't know.
It must have to be a broken window or something somewhere.
All right.
Well, we'll see what happens this time when I say it's time to play the little search engine that could.
Who was that?
Who was that?
That was a snuffelopagus.
No, he's not real.
He shows up sometimes.
Snuffelobagus is real now, though, right?
Didn't he used to be Big Bird's imagination and then somebody decided he was real?
Probably.
I think so.
It's been a minute since I've picked up on the things.
through the continuing storyline on Sesame Street.
Well, yeah, I'm proud to not know what happened.
That's baby stuff.
Yeah, me too.
I don't think that's something I should be familiar with.
You hear about it, though, like in the news, you hear about stuff for that.
Okay.
So here's how this game works, Aaron and Joe, and the refresher for Sam as well.
I typed a word into the search engine on Internet movie database.
Then I wrote down the top 10 movies with that word in the title,
which is, of course, according to the crazy algorithm of IMDB and what people are searching for.
After I tell you the word, you'll take turns guessing.
Titles, you'll get three guesses total.
Then at the end of it, we'll add it up and see who's got the most points.
Number one answer is worth 10 points, and number 10 is worth one point.
and since we just set the clocks forward,
the word is grandfuss.
No, I'm kidding.
The word is spring.
This is a tough one.
As I often advise in this game,
if you don't know for sure about a title
that has the word spring in it,
you can just say something
that sounds like a title
that would have the word spring in it.
And it might work out for you.
Sam, what's your first guess movies that have spring in the title?
I feel like it's going to be my only guess.
Spring Breakers?
Spring Breakers is it?
You're just going to quit?
I mean, you say it normally I can think of at least two or three or four.
That's the only thing that came into my brain.
Well, maybe that's why it's number one on the land.
God damn.
Worth 10 whole points.
but you know we still got everybody still got a few chances so we'll go we'll go to joe yes you will
what do you think joe i don't think there was a spring breakers too
hmm okay uh i'm going to say
there's a movie that i know exists but it was not popular at all and there's another movie that
I think maybe does exist, but I'm not sure.
Real strong candidates here.
It sounds like you got two guesses at least.
Yeah, I think I do.
I'm going to guess that there was some,
I'm going to guess there was a Spring Awakening movie,
so I'm going to say Spring Awakening.
Nice.
There has not been a Spring Awakening.
Yeah, see, that was my...
You're right, though, there should be, I mean, you know...
Imagine someone at some point, yeah.
...become one at some point, but that one did not,
Unless, you know, there's probably like a, you know, maybe a filmed version of the stage performance of it or, you know, something.
But I don't think it's been adapted into a film.
And if, by chance it hasn't, I missed my gaze, then it didn't make the top 10.
Yeah.
Well.
In this particular poll.
But great guess.
Aaron, what's your first guess?
I'm so mad.
I can't think of one.
But I'm going to say, of all the movies in the 1980s, there had to be one called Spring Break.
Right.
I think there was something called Spring Break, but it did not manage to make the top 10.
But yeah, absolutely there was a Spring Break movie, but I guess people have forgotten about it.
You know, when you have something like Spring Breakers, you don't really need anymore.
You don't even need Spring Breakers anymore once you've seen that.
you don't have to go back like spring breakers i thought was an interesting movie but uh the
style he employed of like just rewinding back every once in a while for no reason and making
you just watch a sequence of events a second time uh that happened throughout the film was
very strange hmm hmm sam yeah um i'm just i was just i was
rattling on and on over here to give you a chance to think.
I appreciate it.
This is the only other thing I can think might be up there.
And it's the biopic from last year, Springsteen, deliver me from nowhere.
Wow.
Number five on the list.
Very savvy.
Very savvy.
Yeah, that one, that's partially what excited me about playing the game today is to see if anyone would suss that out.
Joe
What else were you looking at here?
You know, there was a movie I liked that I kind of wish it would have gotten a theatrical release, but it just, it kind of wound up as a COVID movie, but I really liked it.
It was called Palm Springs.
Oh, yes.
That is a great, great movie.
It's definitely like that was one of the first movies I watched in the pandemic and remained by, you know, favorite throughout that whole time period.
a really good movie.
And yeah, it could have,
would have been cool to,
I don't know why it doesn't show up in revival theaters,
but anyway,
didn't make the list.
Yeah,
or at least I got to recommend a good movie.
Yes.
No,
that is really good.
Aaron,
do you have another educated guess?
I'm going to,
yeah,
I'm not going to try to overthink it.
I bet that there has been a movie called Spring.
Now, see, that's what I love.
That's what, you know, you came here to play today.
That's right.
And, but here's the question that I have for you at this time.
Oh, boy.
Apparently, three times has there been a movie called Spring.
I'm a jerk.
So you have to decide which one you're talking about.
Are you talking about 1971, 2014, or 2021?
I'm obviously talking.
about 2021.
Did not make
you're a monster.
Oh, Lord.
Oh, my goodness.
Sam.
What are you going to do with this new information?
This is easy.
I can't believe I didn't think of this before.
There is a classic film.
I used to watch it all the time in my youth
starring Buddy Hackett,
Chloris Leachman, the Smothers Brothers.
It's called Spring Into Action.
Is that real?
No.
Not a word of what I just said is real.
Oh, my God.
But it's a real guess, though.
I'm out of movies.
I guess you don't need any at this point.
I have nothing to give you.
But spring into action, even though your version
such a great cast.
He's a classic.
So many dead people.
It's Haley Joe Osmond's favorite movie.
Just sits there watching and say,
I see dead people.
Yeah, it's a real feast for the eyes for him.
All dead all the time.
All right, just for fun.
Joe, have you thought of anything else?
You know, you said just for fun,
so I'm not going to go with the other spring movies
because we that's you know what fun is that but the only other movie i could think of
was i remember there being a movie i think it went straight to video but it had a really good cast
and i was looking forward to it and i never ended up seeing it because it got dumped but it was called
spring breakdown oh spring breakdown it had like amy polar and like parker posey
maybe rachel dratch and it was like oh yeah this seems like it's going to be fun and then it just
and never heard about it ever again.
Wow.
Yeah.
That does sound vaguely familiar.
Wait, is that the thing that came out and they called it wine country?
This was way, way before that.
Oh, okay.
But what was interesting was there was also a movie called Wild Girls Gone that seemed to have a same year or so,
and it felt like a similar premise, same crew of people, too.
I think both had Amy Polar in them.
All right.
Like they're both spring break movies.
Well, unfortunately, you know what I'm going to say.
I do.
And, you know, the other, after the bomb of Palm Springs, I didn't go with Hope Springs
because I was like maybe Springs is the second word, just isn't going to work.
So, but that was everything I had on the table.
Yeah, I like Hope Springs as a guess.
If that movie had a little bit more attraction, I don't think anybody really remembers it.
I think so much about it.
But all great guests is Joe, and I always like to just give special kudos to anybody playing this game that has three great guesses but no points.
Yeah.
It doesn't feel great, but thank you.
But it's, you know, it's way better than having like, you know, four points.
me just shaking my head like what
this dummy doing
that's why it's audio only because I just take my
head and say
call people dummy but I just mouth it
Aaron smart Aaron
I'm out of I'm not a movie titles but
IMDB is sometimes weird so
I'm going to say a song from a movie
I'm going to go springtime for Hitler
nice oh right
like I would see
a case where the producers
would pop up
on the list, like because
of that song and people
searching both of those things.
But unfortunately, I have to
give the same speech to you that I just
gave to Joe.
Three perfectly fine answers.
But none of them
found a home we call points.
I think you told Joe they were good answers.
Interesting distinction.
Perfectly fine.
and good or not similar enough.
They're enemies, in fact.
You know, I also have to say the other thing, I just couldn't, I can never remember the sequence,
but there's the Korean film, spring, summer, fall, winter, you know, I was just like
there's, I'm not going to be able to get it in the right, but that would have been, if I had
it locked in, I maybe would have gone with that.
That would have been a game changer.
Oh.
Number two.
It came in at number three.
But it is hard to remember because it's called spring, summer, fall, winter, dot, dot, dot, and spring.
Oh, God.
I mean, I never would have been able to figure it.
If you weren't given points for top gun over top gun maverick,
I wouldn't have gotten near spitting distance of that.
Well, that was, you know, that was just a stupid trap that unfortunately Aaron fell into
because, you know, it wasn't that clear.
The difference between the two versions is not, is negligible.
So I apologize for that one because it was supposed to be a trick question,
but it was more of a tricky question.
You know, where there really was no great reason for, you know,
it's kind of, it's basically a 50-50, and Aaron didn't, it didn't work out for Aaron,
But it should have been the movie Need for Speed.
That being said.
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
That would have been a ball in.
I can't believe they made a whole movie for half a catchphrase.
Wasn't a terrible movie though, right?
No, it's not terrible.
Aaron Paul.
Yeah, it's based on the video game.
Yeah.
It's like if the guy from Breaking Bad, his character in Breaking Bad was like a fast driver.
Yep.
He does some fast.
driving in the finale.
Tracy,
I think that's probably...
Yeah, it's true.
Okay, so
congratulations, Sam.
You've pulled off a win today.
Thank you, Doug.
Right, all the shenanigans I've been pulling.
And you get to do your plugs
before I tell everybody
about all these other great spring movies
that didn't come up.
That didn't spring up.
Well, I'm anxious to hear them.
So I'll make my plugs very fast.
Hey, I'm on cameo.
Yes, you are.
So you need to know right now.
Come find me on Camille.
I'll make fun videos for you.
Anything you need.
All right.
That's Sam Levine with two M's,
which is the weirdest way to spell Levine,
but I try to look the other way.
Thank you, Doug.
I appreciate that.
Okay.
So we'll get everybody else's plugs and mine
before we wrap it up.
Oh, Sam, who do you want me to call a shithead today?
We brought back the shitheads.
Oh, okay.
And I can name anybody you want a shithead.
as I close out the show today.
This is crazy.
What an honor.
Can we kick it old school?
Can it be the OG shithead?
And I know you know who I mean.
Barbara Stanwick?
That's the one.
All right.
Wow.
Okay.
Coming in at number 10 of spring movies from 2016, the obscure spring.
The obscure spring.
Yeah, I'll say it is.
then number nine
I think this movie's French
Manon of the spring
from 1986
and then
1949 is a movie called Lake Spring
what the hell
I know right springs
I think we were set up to fail today guys
yeah spring is not a big word
for known movie titles
this one I thought you might just
somebody might just come up with the expression
because that's all I know of it as
from 1960
the Virgin Spring
Nope
Which is of course
The catapult they use
When they find out somebody is a virgin
At the front house
They shoot them into a fake volcano
Okay now here's where things get fun
If your idea of fun is really weird
Number six
When the answer can
came up spring, just the title spring. That was really smart. Then I gave three different years
and said, which year is this spring? So anybody else or any of the three of you could have then
also said spring. But we had lost at that point. In the case of number six, the 1971
spring. And then number five is a movie called winter spring.
summer or fall that starred Jenna Ortega and came out in 2024?
I do know about that one.
Okay.
Yeah.
Fair enough.
Big splash, but.
And then the other missing one, number two from 2014 spring.
Oh, which is a movie I can recommend.
It's a Benson and Moorhead movie and it's quite captivating.
Oh, man.
I would have gotten the number two one if I had.
just said 2014?
Yes.
That was a real, but, you know,
Sam is Mr. Dependable.
Well, I just got lucky going.
He pulled it out. He's Mr. Lucky.
We all would have said spring breakers going.
That's what I meant to say.
Yes, we would have.
Mr. Lucky.
But what would you like to promote
today,
Joe Quazala?
So my film,
American Comic, is still doing the
the festival run.
We are the weekend of April
9th. We've got a lot
of stuff up in the Bay Area and
Morgan Hill specifically. We're at the Poppy Jasper
International Film Festival,
April 11th, Las Cruces,
New Mexico for their film festival.
And then the Capital City Film Festival in
Lansing, Michigan, also on April 11th.
But the big one locally is we will be at
the Netflix is a joke festival on
May 9th. That will be
at the Lyric Hyperion
with Patton Oswald doing the
Q&A.
Nice.
Yeah.
And Doug, you finally got to see the movie.
I did finally see it. I enjoyed it a great deal.
You did a really good job.
It's like I feel like it's, you know, if you're a comedian or, you know, have any kind of skin in the game,
there's a lot of, you know, stuff that's very, you know, recognizable and hilarious.
And then I think even those outside of it can also just, uh,
you know, not only learn a little bit about the stand-up comedy game, but also be, you know, be dissuaded from participating in that way.
Yes.
Yes, it's a cautionary tale, above all else.
It really is.
But yeah, and so we'll see next year at the Oscars how if they still have a taste for dual roles, you know, if they're still into that sort of thing.
And being set up quite nicely, and so I can't wait for this finally to pay off.
They're so fickle, the Academy.
Aaron Tracy, the secret world of Roald Doll.
How many Epps are out so far?
The ninth episode came out a couple days ago.
So we still have a new one on Monday, and then we're going to have some bonus episodes.
Yeah, you can listen to it wherever you listen to this, Spotify, Apple, whatever, where you're currently occupying the carousel on.
Apple, the main new carouson apple, which, you know, honestly, could be because of this show,
me coming on last week and winning so much.
I'll take better for that.
Maybe people went to it, yeah.
So, yeah, you can go to just the Apple homepage or go to Spotify or go wherever.
It's totally free.
You just have to listen to some commercials.
If you like Roldahl, if you like spies, if you like books in general or his movies, check
it out.
What's the last time we talked, you were saying, like, what each, you?
some of the episodes were about, like, what part of his story are you covering on Monday?
This coming Monday is going to be basically getting into the books.
We mostly talked about his life and all the really weird chapters for the first nine episodes
and the bigotry and the World War II stuff, the spy stuff.
And now we get into, yeah, Matilda and Willy Wonka and, you know, James and the Giant Peach
and really dive deep into the books and talk to a literature professor.
who actually knew Dahl in real life, and he tells us a little about his experience.
Did anybody, was there any movie made of any of his books or TV show, just something made from his books that Roll Dahl himself actually liked?
No, I mean, he wrote the screenplay for You Only Live Twice, the Fifth James Bond movie, and he loved that.
Oh, he loved that.
He loved that, and he also loved the episodes he wrote for Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
But he hated the Gene Wilder movie and basically did not allow another adaptation during his lifetime.
Right, because he was gone by the time they did like that first Danny DeVito, Matilda.
Yeah.
Well, even before that, it was James the Giant Peach, right?
Or maybe not.
Maybe Matilda was before that?
You'd know.
Matilda should have, I think, is before.
But it doesn't matter.
The point is he was only alive for the first Willie Walker movie.
Yeah.
And he had a terrible.
he wrote the screenplay for it, but he had a terrible experience. He hated Gene Wilder. He hated the director. He did not see it as a musical. He had a lot of notes.
Well, you know, sometimes great conflict results in, you know, great art. And I think that movie's pretty amazing. Even in the things about it I don't like, I kind of embrace them. You know, like, I can go to the restroom during Cheer Up Charlie, you know, things like that.
Something for everybody.
Douglowe's movies is at the Moon Tower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas on April 17th, 10 p.m. at the creek and the cave.
Benson Movie Interruption in Los Angeles is back on Tuesday, April 21st.
And we're also doing Douglas movies at the Q West Comedy Fest in Key West Florida.
That's in April.
and also in April, as mentioned by Joe Quazala,
the Netflix is a joke fest.
We're doing a Douglas movie at the original home of Douglas movies at the
UCB Theater.
So it'll be fun to be back there for one.
And that is on...
It's got to be early May, I would imagine.
Yeah, May 7th.
There you go.
May 7th. I didn't write it down, but damn it, if I didn't remember it.
Thanks, guys.
This is great.
Thank you.
So much fun.
Thank you to Aaron Tracy, Joe Quazala, and Sam and Mamma, Maville.
As always, oh, gee, shit, Ed, Barbara Stanwick.
This is a shit, guys.
