Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screaming maybe sticky seeds with 50 as a pop or kernels in his teeth. They're still not one that he won't see because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug and I Love Movies. This is Doug Love's Movies recording on Sunday, November 23rd, 2025. And my guest today are two champions and one extremely last-minute fill-in. They are. I try to do this in alphabetical order, and so luckily, the new guest is in the same spot. It's Joey Bragg, Jared Hacker, and Anna Reisman.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Hello. Hi. Hi. let's meet everybody individually and alphabetically by first name she won two weeks ago over zoom it's anna rice man hi i'm so proud of that title um thanks for joining us again today and helping us to get a last minute guest thanks for having me no problem i'm the new d lm Booker. I'm psyched. Well, we'll
Starting point is 00:01:27 speak to him in a moment, but before we do, do you have or even care about having a favorite Thanksgiving movie? A favorite Thanksgiving movie. I'm trying to think of any of it. There was one I used
Starting point is 00:01:45 to like, and now I'm blank on the name with Holly Hunter. Yeah, home for the holidays. Home for the holidays. I like that. Directed by by Jody Foster. Yeah, I remember that being a good one. I think that's why that guy took a shot at the president was because of that movie.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Oh. That's not true. Different movie altogether in a different time period. But it's funny, I'm watching the Scorsese doc on Apple TV and Jody Foster. Like, he's doing these interviews talking about what it was like being on the set, a taxi driver, and, you know, how great De Niro was, and Scorsese, like, she's just really talking it up, like, you know, and I just kept thinking,
Starting point is 00:02:28 a guy tried to kill the president because he, because that movie got into, got into his brain. Oh, my God. That's so weird to think about, but then also I just felt like, ever since that happened, Jody Foster seemed to be like not into, you know, being a public person, you know. And so then to see her in this documentary just so effusive about her experience of playing a 12-year-old hooker. Now I want to see her interviewed about Bugsy Malone. But that is an example of a Thanksgiving movie, but it is funny that you couldn't really access any Thanksgiving movies
Starting point is 00:03:07 because I feel like, first of all, the only great one is planes, trains, and automobiles, which, you know, is a Thanksgiving movie in the sense that they're trying to get home for Thanksgiving, like spoiler. The Thanksgiving part is just the last, five minutes of the movie. Yeah, I get confused between which holiday is what. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:27 They could be trying to get home for Arbor Day. Yeah. You just never know. You never know what the, what they're, he's got a big Valentine's plan. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they don't talk that much about Thanksgiving considering.
Starting point is 00:03:41 I'm sure it comes up, but I feel like most of the classic dialogue is more about just the trouble of traveling with a weird stranger. Wasn't there a horror movie called Thanksgiving? That would have been my pick, but I didn't see it. I haven't seen it yet. There was Thanksgiving, and I think they've made a Thanksgiving, too. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Or no, Thanksgiving 2 is in the works, and I'll probably be out next year. Thank God. The movie we've all been waiting for. But Thanksgiving 1 was like, you know, it was partially a takedown of corporate shopping culture, you know, because they were kind of making fun of, like, it's just a bunch of people getting murdered because they're at one of those stupid all-night sales that they have around Black on or around Black Friday, which is getting looser and looser, like it's, it's Black Week now or Black 10 days. It's been Black Friday since November 1st.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Black November. It's a whole month. I thought it was February. Yeah, exactly. Okay, so you answered that question beautifully because, you know, I think part of the reason they're also on a lot of Thanksgiving. movies is there's such a short window of time where anyone would want to watch a Thanksgiving movie, you know, like maybe the
Starting point is 00:04:57 week leading up to it and maybe two or three days after. Totally. Like episodes, sure, of TV. Then you're on to Christmas, you know? But I feel like a lot of movies incorporate Thanksgiving because it could be in a movie that takes place over anywhere from one to three months.
Starting point is 00:05:14 You know, it could be a movie where you see Halloween Thanksgiving and Christmas over the course of the story or it could be, you know, Thanksgiving and Christmas. That happens a lot where you see Thanksgiving early on in the movie and it builds up to Christmas. I'm going to say with that criteria, terms of endearment. That goes over a couple holidays. Oh, yeah, it goes over a lot of things. That movie goes all over the place.
Starting point is 00:05:37 And it was really before they made that much effort in terms of, you know, makeup to age people or de-age them. So it's just sort of like they just are what they are. is kind of like the Simpsons you know it's been off for 35 years but they all look the same all the time we should be so lucky although aging and dying is part of the story so it's kind of weird
Starting point is 00:06:02 and also when I asked you about Thanksgiving movie we also didn't discuss the fact that do I mean a movie that everyone should watch on Thanksgiving like home alone seems to be the the default Thanksgiving movie I know Wizard of Oz was
Starting point is 00:06:17 for a period of time. Really? Yeah. Wizard of Oz. Now it's wicked. Wizard of Oz used to be a holiday thing. Like they played every year on either Easter or Thanksgiving or, you know, Christmas any night where they thought everyone's just going to be sitting at home. Like the honeymooners on New Year's Day?
Starting point is 00:06:37 Yeah. Like I love bringing up like TV from, you know, nobody knows what I'm talking about. Like when there was just three, you know, three, The whole family would gather around the box and we'd watch Wizard of Oz on four. You know, I grew up on Johnny Carson because that was the show that was on when I didn't want to go to bed. You know what I mean? It's not like I was like, oh, Johnny, this guy's amazing. That's how he became so popular.
Starting point is 00:07:07 People just didn't want to go to bed. It's true. It's just for falling asleep to and for children that, you know, want to stay up all night, want to rage. He won at City Winery in New York City It's Joey Bragg Wow What a joy What a joy it is to be back, Doug
Starting point is 00:07:25 Yeah And what nominative determinism For a guy named Joey Bragg To have the rights to say that he won Right Not only did you win But was an amazing pull Of the film Last Waltz
Starting point is 00:07:38 I'm still I mean I said it to you pre-show But I'm not joking I've been bragging about that since Since the win you know and people talk about the last waltz because it's you know it is a classic like that you know it's the last concert it was the actual last concert of a band that was had a very you know devout following and uh you know so people talk about what a you know
Starting point is 00:08:01 great classic movie that is but what i learned by watching the scorsese doc on apple tv hashtag not an ad is that um i'm really watching it that the uh I'm taking a shot every time you mention it. Robbie Robertson from the band, the band, that's in the last walls, in that band, and Scorsese just basically lived together and were cocaine fiends for years after that movie was made. Like for a few years, they just were together, living together and partying all the time. That's the dream. But you watch that movie and it's just this classy band going out on a classy high note.
Starting point is 00:08:44 with this cool movie directed by a cool director. It's a real ride, this Scorsese documentary. But you're back in California now, Joey? I am. I am back. It's cold here, too. It's been rainy. It is.
Starting point is 00:09:01 It's been cold and rainy. But the East Coast doesn't need to hear it because they've got it for the next three months pretty much all the time, except for a freaky 70-degree day in January. I'll take it. Yeah. Now it's that weather where we wear a sweatshirt outside and we get a little sweaty and we're like, ugh, it was so cold yesterday. Yeah. Yeah, this walking around is making me hot.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Oh, the sunshine. So I already fucked up the alphabetical by first name thing because Jared is before Joey, but, you know, I think we did a good, you know, Pre-games interview, Joey, I think we've said enough. I think we're... Let's move on. I think we're good, yeah. Mutual consent. Have a good game, you guys.
Starting point is 00:09:58 I'm going to go hang out with Max. So, either because the guests did not receive the email link from me, like maybe it went into a spam or something, or I did not send it, which I don't... That one seems less plausible, but it has happened. So one way or another, I found out last minute because he did text me that one of the guests couldn't join us because he didn't, you know, he never saw the email for one reason or another. So he was like, but I could do it in five minutes. And this was, you know, this was when we were ready to start.
Starting point is 00:10:34 So he'll be on. He'll be rescheduled soon. But filling in because he lives in the same place as Anna Royceman and because he also. qualifies to be a guest, having seen the show lots of times, and always, I always have a lovely time every time I speak to him. It's Jared Hacker. Hey, Jared. Hey, Jared. Hey, so happy to be on. Welcome to the show. Your dream is true. It took about 15 years. Yeah. Thanks for fulfilling my make a wish. Yeah, you've been there just waiting, and I really strongly have a no-couples policy. been a few over the years that slipped through and then it just ends up being an absolute nightmare
Starting point is 00:11:19 whether they're still in love or hate each other either way and then i can break up it's it's it's okay it adds a dynamic that i don't i don't need i don't need the guests have deep past history with one another um but uh i like bringing together strangers and then uh embarrassing all of them making them feel terrible especially today because uh jared is quite is quite probably going to be quite good at this joey oh no yeah be afraid we're all worried yeah oh gosh i know one guy comes in out of nowhere defeats two champions yeah that's what i'm saying is it's really i still even against two champions i think uh you know but i've been wrong about this and i certainly leave lots of possibilities in the games
Starting point is 00:12:12 where, you know, being the smartest isn't necessarily going to help you to succeed. Yeah, you're definitely setting me up for failure. I appreciate it. But I know you as a producer, like a man of many skill sets
Starting point is 00:12:29 when it comes to that, I always hear about you doing a range of different things. Is there something you're doing now that you would care to talk about or promote? Yeah, I'm a documentary producer, so I've just worked on a, just finishing up on a 10-episode doc series about the indigenous tribes of California and a retelling of their history from the native perspective. And it's called People of the West, and it will be coming out sometime in the next year or so. It's still a lot in development with that, everything.
Starting point is 00:13:07 so stay tuned for that and then i have another doc series i'm working on now that'll be out eventually on on hbo max but i can't talk about that one but um stay tuned um this the the indian doc um does it get into uh at all about you know sort of what's going on with casinos and tribes yeah it's it's a whole retelling like of their 500 plus year history from from from colonial contact all the way to the present yeah so that's that's going to be a big thing choice in the present part yeah yeah you want a more thanksgiving movies Doug I mean Jared in your opinion do you think yeah this is a terrible thing to bring up the indigenous peoples here during indigenous people's week.
Starting point is 00:14:04 But do you feel like, when you hear the concept of Indian casino, do you think that generally benefits Indians or is a bad thing for Indians? It's a very good thing for Indians. Okay. Yeah, yeah. And there's a whole episode that we have that's devoted to that. And you see how that came about everything. Yeah, I always like to feel that even though gambling and addiction to gambling
Starting point is 00:14:30 and the drinking that also goes with it like all of that I think it's all bad but you know if people are going to piss their money away in that manner it might as well go towards a community you know and a place yeah and not some rich fucker
Starting point is 00:14:45 all right cool happy Thanksgiving everybody before we play games today I'd like to ask each of you to recommend one movie like I do Anna, last time
Starting point is 00:15:04 your recommendation was something's got to give. Do we get to do that again? I don't know why I had to remind you of that other than sometimes guests will forget and we'll recommend the same thing again. What could you recommend today? Today, what am I feeling today?
Starting point is 00:15:25 You know, I've watched it like four times this week. I'm going to recommend Happy Gilmore. the original happy Gilmore yeah happy Gilmore one on a loop you know it's been on TV a lot and I've been traveling so like you know when you're in a hotel and whatever's on
Starting point is 00:15:42 you'll watch I feel like I've literally seen Happy Gilmore three times and it's still slaps you know it's such a good movie no ads or with ads oh I watch it with ads yeah oh my god like Comedy Central for a while they still might be they'll still a movie and then the bug in the corner will be like
Starting point is 00:16:00 movies with ads and then they really pitch it like they'll do promos saying hey this is you know ads are a good time to get up and do stuff you know like go to the kitchen or the bathroom and I feel exactly that way but I also don't want them to act like they're doing us a favor by having the commercials in there yeah you know that there were a good five years I only watched sex in the city on E with commercials and they cut out all the sex and then in the pandemic I watched the like regular and I was like oh my god I forgot it's so raunchy they like take their clothes off yeah you were just watching and the city yep carry in the city yeah uh so yeah happy gilmore you know always uh always slaps and it's always a great recommendation uh what did you have you ventured into
Starting point is 00:16:53 happy gilmore too or are you are you scared what's going on there you know i i forgot i i will watch Until you said it just now, I was like, oh, right, they did make a newer one. Well, they're not showing that on, you know, the cable channels. Yeah, well, some people might just be like, hey, if Carl Weathers isn't in it, I'm not watching it. If Chubs can't make an appearance, I'm out. Yeah. Or even Bob Barker, for that matter. I mean, those guys were both amazing in the original and very hard to replace.
Starting point is 00:17:26 All right, Jared. It's your first time on the show. your first recommendation what do you got so every time you would ask this I'd always think of something rare and you know
Starting point is 00:17:39 and there's an old romantic comedy that I haven't seen it a while but I always thought it was like really good for the rom-com genre the movie Kissing a Fool with David Schwimmer Jason Lee
Starting point is 00:17:55 and I'm forgetting the actress in it but um yeah i'll bangle this shit out of it i want to say it's like kind of like a vt or something isn't it are they still together or was it just david trimmer's person at that time oh i don't know i actually didn't know they and i might have just you know made that up but i feel like that was the scenario is it they were real-life couple and they got this indie movie going because they you know said hey jason lee we're thinking about joining Scientology
Starting point is 00:18:29 let's make a movie but yeah you like that movie I don't remember liking it but you know yeah you know I probably went in with the attitude I just shared it's not an award winning movie but I felt like for that genre you know it's it's kind of fresh
Starting point is 00:18:49 and you don't really know where it's going exactly and yeah so yeah you don't probably find out to the end which one is the fool. Yeah, exactly. You know, which ones are they talking about? They're all kissing, but which one's the fool? It's one of the great mysteries, because I think they don't give it up at the end.
Starting point is 00:19:10 It's like dumb and dumber. You never really find out, like, they never sit down and take a test. That should have been the sequel, is forcing them to take a test. Okay, so I wrote it down next to Joey's name Because my script's all messed up now But I'll fix it in post as they say Joey, what would you like to recommend today? I did last for the live show
Starting point is 00:19:39 I was talking about showing my girlfriend Who's never seen anything Oh Brother Warwick down, how much I liked it We just watched This isn't one, I can pick one But we just watched all the Harry Potter movies From the beginning to the end And I guess I'll recognize
Starting point is 00:19:53 recommend sorcerer. I mean, Prisoner of Ascaband is my favorite, but... It's the best one. Those movies take such a tonal shift, like, towards the end. He fixed the whole series with that third one, though, because they suddenly were not just like children's movies. Yeah. And it also, it's, because, like, I grew up with them, like, the first one came out when I was, like, eight, and the last one came out when I was, like, 20 or whatever. So I was able to, like, grow up with it, but then showing them to somebody that hasn't seen them and is not growing up with them and it's just binging them they do get they go from really silly to like and now we're murdering children yeah the intensity really grows to the point
Starting point is 00:20:32 where you're like part two come on i've never seen him extended finish well you know now it's it's great thing to be able to say that you know and stick to that i feel bad promoting it now she she knew all along you would love this i had to fake like multiple Harry Potter H.Q. games because I was like, I've never, I don't even know these names. Oh, yeah. But at least they really are like pronounced the way they look. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All those silly names. Like there's not too many. They're like, oh, how do you say, you know, how do you say Weasley? But it's still, that's one thing that's like hitting extra hard for me is I've, I've never been a big fan, but I, you know, saw all the movies. And like I thought part three was really good. And, but I've never been, you know, that into it.
Starting point is 00:21:26 So then when, you know, Rowling is such a weirdly raging homophobe for no good reason, she could just chill and be, you know, absolutely beloved by everybody. Now it, now when I hear the names of the characters, they hit me as extra ridiculous. Oh, yeah. She named the only Asian character Cho Chang. Yeah. No, it's. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I know. She's a bad person. It's just such silly made-up words that are like, you know, always like kind of, you know, if you study it, you go, oh, Lupin, because he's a, you know, he's a wolf or whatever. Yeah. And it's just like, it really makes it more of a, because that's what people always say was the writing isn't like a children's book. And it's like, well, every one of those names is like a children's book. Yeah. You know, but anyway.
Starting point is 00:22:15 They meet the black guy, Blackie McBlackface. No. Oh. No. I also, I regret, I regret picking a Harry Potter movie. So I'm going to pick the movie Heat by Michael Mann. I did mean to do that to you because that's a big thing we have to wrestle with now with all pop culture is can you still love things that you later find out, you know, you shouldn't be supporting the people involved, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:41 And that's the thing about Harry Potter movies is there's like she thought of all that shit, but then thousands of people. made it happen you know so that's my you know very i was like the perfect age for harry potter was coming the books were coming out when i was a kid and the movie started coming out when i was a little older i was it was like made for my generation yeah and they've exceptionally well made like they did a good job and then i go to universal studios and not only is the area that it's in really cool and the rides are you know they're all right but that fucking butter beer like it bugs me me that she gets a cut of butter beer because somebody should just steal
Starting point is 00:23:23 the recipe. I don't know why it's not in stores. It's so fucking good. Yeah. Butter in beer? Is that? It's like buttercotch soda. Yeah. Yeah. It's for kids. Hold on there.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Hold on. But that's the great thing about delicious children's things is that, you know, they're still delicious when you're an adult. It's like the polar express. Oh, no. Just tastes like shit now.
Starting point is 00:23:52 That movie, like, that kid just gets into a train with a stranger just because it comes by the house in the middle of the night. And then the nightmares just keep going from there. It starts from this premise. It's like insanely dangerous thing to show to children. Anybody with a train is, you know, worth hopping on board. Also the plot to the first Harry Potter.
Starting point is 00:24:18 What did you change? change your movie. Oh, damn it. Heat by Michael Man. You know they're making a Heat too, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:27 They also novelized it. He wrote a, he wrote the novel. I hope it's called Heat 2 colon, turn it up. Or just turned up. Oh, my God. But I, that's, how can, I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:43 maybe it'll be good, but I don't know how it could. Like, heat just seems like it's a thing unto itself. it doesn't need more heat. Is it a full prequel or is it like half prequel, half
Starting point is 00:24:56 I think I read something about it. I would be surprised if it's both if it's like this epic but I don't know. I don't see like a happier Gilmore. Happy Gilmore. I don't see Michael Man like hiring young actors to play
Starting point is 00:25:12 the characters. I mean maybe he would. Like some of the best casting ever in the history of movies is you know, when they find the right young person to play, you know, somebody. Oh, yeah. Josh Brolin playing Tommy Lee Jones and Men in Black Three. Oh, that is, that, the cast is the only good thing about that movie. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Well, thank you for those. I wish we had more time to talk about heat. We've got some games to play. And, you know, all of those movies that you said are perfect options for people who don't watch football. you know, after eating Thanksgiving dinner or might turn on E, Sex and the City Marathon with no sex and lots of ads.

We are back, and that was a great time, just listening to all those great things that can be in your lives if you followed the instructions. let's play a new game because as you can tell this entire episode is Thanksgiving theme because it snuck up on me
Starting point is 00:29:19 I gotta be honest with you it's like a few days away and I don't think I've mentioned it on this show since November we stopped talking about scary movies in early November and then I never looked at Thanksgiving
Starting point is 00:29:34 maybe there's maybe Thanksgiving is kind of going away as a thing you know maybe it's maybe it's just a day off now and speaking of Thanksgiving don't forget if you're in San Diego to come see me
Starting point is 00:29:49 the night before Thanksgiving at the American Comedy Company as an annual tradition stand-up show that we do annually that's what annual means every year and who knows this might be the last one the game we're about to play is called
Starting point is 00:30:05 taking and giving I'll start with Anna then we go to Jared then we go to Joey Anna I will tell you the names of two actors and then you tell me if those two actors
Starting point is 00:30:22 appeared together in a movie with the word taking in the title or the word giving okay so if you can figure out exactly what movie I'm talking about then of course it's going to be easy to answer but otherwise you'll have a 50-50 chance is one of the answers they're not in a movie together or
Starting point is 00:30:45 no the options are they're in a movie that has taking in the title or giving in the title okay or fucking or fucking in the title okay no there's no okay so that i'll give you that as an option but just keep in mind you'll never get a point if you say it Because that's not on here. All right, Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke were in a movie together. Does it Anna Royceman have the word taking or giving in the title? I'm going to go with giving.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Giving is incorrect. Damn it. But a good guess because there's only two options. So I'm proud of you for getting that good guess in. But the movie they were in from 2004 is called Taking Lives. I don't remember that movie. Do you remember that movie, Jared? I remember the title, like once you said it, but I have no idea what it's even about.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Okay. I'll tell you what it's not about. I'm not giving. All right. You'll get another chance then, I'm sure. But Jared, it's your turn to guess. Denzel Washington and John Travolta
Starting point is 00:32:05 are in a movie together. Does it have the word taking or giving in the title? I'm going to say I can't think of the movie. I'm shocked with the two of them. I'll say taking.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Taking is correct because they are in a movie called Taking of Pelham one, two, three. Oh, the remake, that's right. From 2000, was it 19? Was that recently?
Starting point is 00:32:41 Wow. No. 2009. No, that was 2009. Yeah, 2009. It's like, dang, time is weird. When you get things wrong. All right, Joey, Jared's on the board. He's breathing down your neck.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Anna could always get one. But it's your turn now. Here we go. Jim Belushi and Charles Groden Jesus Yeah I mean just because we have Let's say giving
Starting point is 00:33:10 Because you're having a positive feeling About that pairing I am yeah I can't think of what movie that is No it's these are really It's interesting that movies With taking or giving in the title Are kind of forgettable titles overall
Starting point is 00:33:27 Because giving is not the correct damn it's called taking care of business from 1990 and this is like a stupid thing I say about it every time it comes up which is you know very very rare that it comes up
Starting point is 00:33:45 probably it's probably me bringing up in the first place but before they decided to call it taking care of business and throwing the classic Bachman Turner Overdrive song onto the soundtrack the movie was called
Starting point is 00:33:59 Philo Fax because it's all about a guy who loses his filo facts which makes it hard for him to take care of business I can relate I still use a filo facts I don't even know what that is it's just a goddamn thick ass calendar that you write in but it's like got
Starting point is 00:34:20 Velcro on it so you can clasp it shut and for the really outrageous people that would do this I would never do this because now you might as well get a purse they would uh they also have slots for uh credit cards and personal photos like you could have all your shit in this one like it's you know it's like an iPhone but you pretty great yeah but uh steampunk and this has a nice little uh buckle on it that's yeah yes it was a whole goddamn thing they decided to make a movie about it but like by the time
Starting point is 00:34:54 the movie came out it was not a thing anymore they were like we have blackberries bitch they were like we've got a better title all right back to you anna great uh the movie stars walter mathow and robert shaw okay joey obviously knows this one i'm gonna go with taking why you know it's just go with go with the first instinct yeah so not not alphabetical no i It's just last time I guessed giving, and that didn't work out for me. Right. Change it up. That's how you got into a good college.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Thank you. Yeah, exactly. You think I read any of those SATs? No. You are correct. The answer is, and the reason it got to laugh is because it's the original version of taking of Pelham, 1, 2, 3. Oh, my God. I was trying to remember who the actors were in that movie.
Starting point is 00:35:52 And then you just said it was. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I didn't know which order to present those in to be more tricky, but it's, but it didn't work anyway because Anna made a good guess. I'm just trying to think of movies that have the word taking or giving in it and I've gotten one in my...
Starting point is 00:36:07 It's rough. It's rough. Like there's no like big hit, you know, famous ass movie that has one of those words in it. All right. So Jared, this is it. This is yours to lose at this point. Because if you get this right,
Starting point is 00:36:23 you are the winner. And if you get it wrong, then we'll just wait and see what happens All right Christina Applegate and Jonathan Shaghan You know Jonathan Schaff
Starting point is 00:36:40 I don't know He was the lead singer of the Oneaters in Oh yeah That thing you do He was in hush with Jessica Lange Yeah he had a run there for a while Really good eyebrows
Starting point is 00:36:57 and was willing to play a dick in that thing you do because he is kind of a dick in it. And was a guest on Douglas movies one time at UCB and was a delight. Well, I can't think of a movie. Well, then let me tell you a Crystal Gina Applegate story. I volunteered to be a monster that jumps out of the shadows at a school haunted house
Starting point is 00:37:25 that's like for charity. So the parents and the kids, like the whole family show up and go through this haunted maze. And I scared the shit out of Christina Applegate. Like, if I ever met her, I'd be like, I'm sorry that I scared you so much. And that haunted, haunted maze thing. So what's your guest, Jared? I'm going to go with taking. I feel like that's been popular.
Starting point is 00:37:49 I'm going to stick with it. It has been the correct answer every time. But as you know, you've heard the show. he's got to change it up it's got to change it's got to change it's got to change up just to throw people off because people do like tracking that it's been the same answer over and over again and so this one the answer is giving and it's something i didn't even know they made into a movie i know it was a book the giving tree giving tree oh my god from the year 2000 so now we have a time between nan and jac uh joey let's make it a three way this one out joey sit this one out you'll be back in our next game probably bigger and better than ever
Starting point is 00:38:36 but anna this whole win rides on you if you get this one right you win this game if you get it right you do not win this game okay all right you're not going to know who these people are so it's really it's really a coin flip but maybe something about their names
Starting point is 00:38:54 will give you a feeling of something Mike Ferguson Antwana Barnett Giving Let me know if you need me to spell Yes The answer is giving
Starting point is 00:39:09 Wow You did it Congratulations I'm telling you Sometimes you just have to envision it It's from a movie I didn't write down the year
Starting point is 00:39:20 But I think it's 70s Called Biches Giving Stitches Oh my God Yeah, if you sure did, you just gave some bitches some stitches by winning that game. That means you, you savage, get to go first in our next and determining a game that we will play after these messages will be right back. We are back and Anna is so close to retaining the championship belt, which is, you know, whatever. belt you want you know just pick one out of your closet just say this is my
Starting point is 00:40:00 champion of Zoom competitions yeah this means that Anna gets to go first in our determining game today and we flipped the order around from that last game so it'll go and uh Joey Jared and it's a game
Starting point is 00:40:22 that I call the little search engine that could I typed a word into the internet movie database this very morning. And then I wrote down the top two, ten, top ten movies that the Algo suggests are the most popular, you know, according to the star meter and people using the search engine. You will each take turns guessing movies that you think would. have landed in this top 10 with this word in the title and the higher up on the list your
Starting point is 00:41:01 answer is the more points you get after three rounds where you each get to guess one at a time until you've guessed three titles I will add up the totals and the person with the most points is the winner today
Starting point is 00:41:17 you've heard us play this before hey Jared I have yeah and Joey I've played has played it before and Anna has played something similar where we were naming, whose movies were we naming? Oh, like an actor's movie?
Starting point is 00:41:36 I want to say, was it Spielberg when you were on? Or Hitchcock? Did you do Hitchcock? All right, well, anyway, you get to go first. Great. And you get to tell me, wait a second. Also, when I said, let's flip the order, I screwed it up. because did I do the yeah I did the order right the first time
Starting point is 00:41:59 so yeah so it's the other way it's it's Anna then Joey then Jared or did I say it that way you said it that way yeah you do okay good all right all right so Anna what's your first guess a movie with the word snow
Starting point is 00:42:15 and let me just you know help everybody out right out of the gate snowing does not ever come up it's always snowing without the ing. It's ingless this game. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:32 What's your first guess? I'm going to throw down Jack Frost. Has the word snow in the title? Not the element of snow within the movie. Oh, I thought you were just, okay, I'm sorry, I didn't understand the rules. Snow has to be in the title. Yes. That's why, yeah, I use the search engine, typed in the word.
Starting point is 00:43:06 You definitely haven't played this one before. So just think of any movie that has the word, snow in the title. If you're being able to think of it, it's a good chance it'll be in there. Snow Day. See, that's a perfect example of you thought about it. You said it. and it is on the list number five on the list of snow day in 2000 uh i believe i even saw it like i feel like there was a random ass snow day in
Starting point is 00:43:37 california which because it rarely happens i think we had a snow day and watched snow day i think i feel like that's what happened where we just went to a matinee on a saturday but uh were you familiar with that movie or are you just using the expression No, I knew there was a movie. I knew there was a movie. Because that's a smart play either way, you know, if you just like say something that, you know. My brain was just going through things. Yeah, the things that snow.
Starting point is 00:44:06 And I was like, wait, there was a movie. I'm pretty sure. I thought you were going to be like, that is not a movie, actually. Chubby Chase and Chris Elliott amongst others were in Snow Day. So I don't think it's bad. I think it's fairly innocuous. All right Joey
Starting point is 00:44:26 Here we go What's your first guess I can I think I'm drawing a blank on any All I can think of is Snow White And I can't decide if the title is Snow White and the seven dwarves are just Snow White but I think it's just snow white
Starting point is 00:44:42 That's your final answer Snow White no dwarves Yes Snow White no dwarves Number one movie I never it. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:55 I've done it again. From 2025 with Rachel Ziegler, they're like, I mean, what? I maybe was thinking of the old cartoon, but never mind. That's so funny. Yeah, no, the old cartoon is and the seven dwarves, because that's, that's how they, you know, that's part of how they got butts in the seats. You got to see those dwarves. Those dwarves are so cute and fun.
Starting point is 00:45:21 And then the next thing you know. you're watching a witch terrorize a poor innocent woman with no personality yeah so that was where the whopping 10 points doesn't mean you're going to win for sure but wow that is a
Starting point is 00:45:38 I don't think I'm going to win because I literally can't think of another movie with snow in the title well somebody something might trigger it over the course of the game you might think of another one and like I thought Anna might have done with Snow Day you could just come up with expression with the word snow and it might be
Starting point is 00:45:57 it might be a movie but Jared what's your really touting your gameplay what's your first? Yeah well I was I was thinking of the animated Snow White so I'm going to stick with Snow White and the seven dwarfs and hope that comes in number two
Starting point is 00:46:12 bastard right and the question I have for you is how did you know to say dwarfs with an F because isn't isn't it dwarves isn't dwarfs wrong like were they being like you know I mean I know they didn't use the
Starting point is 00:46:30 but uh but it's still like it's still funny to me dwarfs with a with an F doesn't seem right but maybe maybe and certainly at the time maybe both versions were acceptable
Starting point is 00:46:46 but anyway that being said I regret It was a terrific guess. You know, it's too bad that, you know, that Joey doesn't know the difference between the Snow White titles and accidentally picked the one that's worth more points. Snow White, the Seven Dwarves is number four.
Starting point is 00:47:06 All right. I'll take it. I'll take it. I feel like people are having trouble finding it because they're typing in dwarves with a V. With a V, yeah. Yeah, that's my theory. But, yeah, from 1937, and that's like one of my earliest, movie-related memories is not seeing that movie but eating in a coffee shop next door to the
Starting point is 00:47:28 theater of playing it and a big standee of Snow White and the and the dwarves in 1937 no they know kind of like what's a good example Pixar maybe Disney used to reissue every all their big classics would be just be reissued every three or four years and you you know so parents could take the kids to see them because there wasn't they were barely even on tv like sometimes they'd show up on wide world of disney or whatever but yeah no they were really they were really precious with those animated classics like you just had to see them in a theater whenever they rolled them out every few years now they just make them in live action yeah but you know i was a little kid i didn't fucking know they'd been around for them you know for 30 years
Starting point is 00:48:17 30, 40 years at that point. So Jared's got seven points for that because it didn't come in number two as you were hoping, but let's go to Anna for your second guess.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Yeah, this one's going to be a guess for sure because I'm over here thinking of other terms. I think there's another snow white movie too, but I don't know like Snow White and the bad apple. like there's another one but I can't remember it there's another there's another like whatever I can't
Starting point is 00:48:54 remember it so fuck her um I'm gonna go moving on okay I was thinking is frosty the snowman is that a movie um I you know I could save you the trouble here I think instead of saying wrong because it's not a you know I mean it's not a movie so you haven't you haven't technically guessed a movie yet. So I think it's fair to say that that's why it's not, you know, it's probably even on the list if I didn't, you know, I just clicked on movies. So it was only movies with snow. Okay, I'm, I feel like there's got to be some like snowman or snow dog. Is snow dogs a movie? I'm going to ask me if something's a movie, but you can go ahead. If it's made for TV, I'll tell you. snow dogs yes of course snow dogs started kuba gooding junior
Starting point is 00:49:50 number seven on the list oh my god i loved how you eventually got there that was pretty amazing and that's worth four more points and now you're tied in the lead with with joey but joey gets to make another guess dude i was gonna guess snow dogs right now i mean joey i only knew snow white I was like oh yeah I do know a movie and then you came in hot and I was like now what but you also said
Starting point is 00:50:24 the other snow white movie and there was like a bad snow white movie from like the early 2010s that might have just been I think it's snow white and the is it the seven huntsman or just snow white and the huntsman with like Chris Hemsworth
Starting point is 00:50:41 and Lily Phil Collins' daughter, Lily Collins, right? You're close. You're not supposed to help him. I thought it was Snow White and the Bad Botox. What's your final, what do you think it's called? It's Snow White and, it's, I mean, it's Snow White and the Huntsman. It's not seven Huntsman.
Starting point is 00:51:07 She doesn't hang out with just groups of seven people. Snow White and the Huntsman. I mean, how well do you think you know this girl? you think she's only been around one huntsman she's probably got a higher huntsman count than that that movie could literally be sleeping beauty in the huntsman and i could be totally wrong no it's snow white the hudspin and it's uh number two on the list no way yes you son of a gun yeah you did it oh that is all you to thank anna i would not have
Starting point is 00:51:40 even thought of it. So you said there's another snow white movie and I went into like slumdog millionaire mode. I'll take 10% of your winning. Yeah. Can you imagine like on Jeopardy if people discuss the answers after each answer how that would just end up giving clues to future answers in the same category? You know, that's why they, you know, keep it tight. It's Lily Collins, right? Am I crazy? No, that was, what's her name? Kristen Stewart. was snow white the huntsman yeah and she you know and she had an affair with the director oh and it was chris hemisworth right yeah and he was yeah and charlie's there and played the evil witch yeah yeah guys i broke out into a cold sweat but let's play it through even though you just well you you you
Starting point is 00:52:31 have an insurmountable lead but let's go ahead and play it through uh and see how many more points yet Jared what's what's your next guess or do you are you out of guesses no um falcon in the snowman oh that is a snowman one but i don't think it's going to be that high on the list no it's not it's not even i look at maybe the top 50 and it wasn't in there that movie's really falling off i mean i don't think anybody today i don't think people have a firm grasp of who timothy hunting even is yeah you know and chan pen is just you know doing his own thing like Timothy Hutton was Hutton was in the
Starting point is 00:53:15 the haunting the hunting the hunting of Hellhouse yeah yeah he came back for a little bit oh no he still works like he still like he was on he had a show where he ran a group of you know it was like sneakers or something where like
Starting point is 00:53:30 he ran a bunch of people who all had different skills and they would do heists and but it was like he was working for the government or you know some nonsense but that lasted for several years on like TBS or TNT or one of those yeah one of those TT channels
Starting point is 00:53:46 all right sorry about that Jared Anna one more guest what do you got let's let's finish this with a strong second place you know my brain still feels like just say frozen why wouldn't that
Starting point is 00:54:00 why would that be on the list the algorithm will do that though when I'm looking at the list they'll just randomly throw in something that's kind of snow themed and it's like Wow, how did this get in here? It's really, really jicky. Okay, now you're making me want to say it even more. No, I don't write those down.
Starting point is 00:54:18 If it's a good movie, it doesn't even qualify. I feel like my brain is like, snowmageddon, snowmobile, snowman. And these are all should be movies, yes. Yeah. Is there a movie? Like, Snowman, the snowman? let's go with the snowman you know what might be is that your answer that's my final answer okay no i don't there may be a movie called that but it's not in the it's not in the top 10
Starting point is 00:54:54 or even top anything because i didn't recognize it um okay joey what's your what's your final guess i'm going for i think i got it i'm going for the full the full three i think it's Bong Joon Ho's snowpiercer, final answer, Doug. Well, I, you know, I love the, I love giving the director the credit he deserves. And, um... Did I do it? No, it's number 17 on the list. Damn it. How?
Starting point is 00:55:30 You know, just for whatever reason, people aren't, you know, looking at it up as much as these other weird-ass snow movies. I was also thinking, you were like throw out just a phrase i was like i think there's a movie called let it snow with like dean martin or something yeah number six on the list damn that that's what you got to do that kind of thing do you want that to be your last answer jared if you have another one um i guess yeah that would be my my that was going to be my next guest yeah i'm sorry i screwed it up but so that's worth five more points for you and uh so that means anna you came in there I gave in third
Starting point is 00:56:11 yeah but out of three so it's not that bad there was a movie called the snowman though wasn't it with Michael there was like a serial killer thing maybe yeah yeah I think that sounds right the snowman murders or something like that also there was a snowman
Starting point is 00:56:29 I think there I think there was another snowman title with Michael Keaton right oh my first guess He turned me into a very specific snowman. Okay, so let me tell you after Joey gets to do his plugs before I give you the rest of the answers in this game. So what do you want to promote Joey? I'm going on tour next year, so that's fun. So look at my Joey Bragg comedy.com for my tour dates.
Starting point is 00:57:02 That's awesome. I'll be everywhere. A lot of colleges that they can't come to, but a lot of real shows that they can. So check out my... Does the tour have a cute name? Not yet. Not yet. I think it's going to be called the Bragging Rights Tour.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Oh, okay. But we haven't decided on that yet. With two Gs? Obviously, bro. Yeah, because that's how you spell bragging. Yeah. It works both ways. Three Gs.
Starting point is 00:57:29 All right. Thank you for playing and winning, and we'll have you back on again soon. Hell yeah, dude. I'm not joking when I see. said I broke out in a sweat during that game, so feeling good. All right, we'll turn on the air of the heat or whatever you. Yeah, go on the snow, Joey.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Number 10 on the list, people looking it up, I think, because it's recent, and it's two bucks on Prime right now, a movie called Snow Falling on Pumpkins. You know, get those pumpkins inside. Classic. And then, this is kind of fun.
Starting point is 00:58:04 A horror movie slipped in here. number nine is the wolf of Snow Hollow Oh my friend Victoria is in that Yeah and our friend of the show Ricky Linholm is also in that movie And then number eight Was some nonsense It's on Up Faith and Family
Starting point is 00:58:26 Streaming Service starring Joey Lawrence Called the Great Christmas Snow Inn Oh Of course In is spelled I-N-N. Nice. So they're snowed-in and add a snow-in. What else?
Starting point is 00:58:44 We did snow dogs, let it snow, snow day, snow-white and seven dwarfs. And then here's number three is another tricky one. Like a serious drama that, you know, about one of those plane crashes in the snow called Society of the Snow. Oh. From 2023, it got some. Got some, you know, some attention, but I was, I don't think I, you know, I probably skipped seeing it because I fly too much. It's really good. I did see. It's foreign. It's like some kind of. Yeah. I feel like I might have, but, you know, I've also seen other movies on the same subject, like Alive and, you know, similar stuff.
Starting point is 00:59:27 The Grey. It always just, it always just looks very cold and convenient. it. But congratulations again to Joey for getting the most points, but also to Jared and Anna for getting points as well at being excellent players. Anna Roissman, what would you like to promote?
Starting point is 00:59:49 I've got a big show January 8th at Joe's Pub. Come see me. Tickets in my Instagram. If I'm in New York on January 8th, that's what I'm going to do is come see. And I could say that because there's so little odds that I'll be there on January 8th. But if it does happen for any reason. Can't wait to have you.
Starting point is 01:00:10 You've got a seat. Thank you. And Jared Hacker, first-time guest, longtime listener, what would you like to use? What's the name of your documentary series again? People of the West, but it doesn't have a home yet. So, you know, it'll be out soon. So in the meantime, you could stream Hell House LLC, a little horror film that I was in that has spawned four sequels.
Starting point is 01:00:38 So I'm in the first one. I'm in the first one. Yeah. I just thought of a great, this is, you know, not a reflection on you or what you were saying, Jared. But I just, I've been thinking about, oh, brother, where art that a little bit because of Joey bringing it up on the last episode. And probably thinking about it, like, a little bit too much because it just popped into my head that a great double bill in a motion picture theater would be sinners and, oh, brother, we're art, though.
Starting point is 01:01:18 So can anybody back me up on that? I'm thinking about that. I'm like, how they connect. Because they're both sort of musicals. Like they both have like people singing at various points and they're both in the south and they both have like the cinematography
Starting point is 01:01:36 has a similar vibe because it's very pretty photography. And yeah, the similarity starts to drop off. But everybody, I like to watch O Brother we're out with the lens of thinking these people are vampires.
Starting point is 01:01:53 I think that movie might make a little bit more sense. Doug plugs Night before Thanksgiving San Diego stand up at the American Comedy Company and then I'm doing a Benson movie Interruption at Dynasty Typewriter in L.A. on December 1st
Starting point is 01:02:11 and 14 guests of Christmas is going to be streaming from Dynasty Typewriter. You can see it in person or on the stream at 7.30 Pacific time on Monday, December 15. So please go to Diceetipriar.com and order that or go to Douglasmovies.com for all my other stuff. Thank you one more time to Anna Royceman, Jared Hacker, and Joey Bragg.
Starting point is 01:02:41 Wow. As always, looks like you're going to have to close it yourself, shitty. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Eyes of Gold is viewing prowess makes him cocky. There's no room in his heart for you because Doug loves movies.
