Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers, screaming baby sticky seeds with 50 acid pop or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug Loves Movies coming to you on sunday april 3rd 2022 i mean you're hearing this on the fourth or after that but you get the idea my guests today are returning champ john erler dangling champ blair saki and a champ in all of our hearts solomon giorgio hello everybody Alvin Giorgio. Hello, everybody. Hey. Hey. Hello, everyone.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Let's meet everybody individually and alphabetically, starting with a hot off of his big win on the bonus episode from a few days ago. It's Master Pancaker, John Erler. Hello, John. Hi, Doug Benson. Thanks for having me. How's it going? Have you been just living the life of a champion? I'm not going to lie. It's been pretty great these past couple of days since I barely squeaked by on that last episode. Well, if you win again today, then you're going to have probably a few weeks to enjoy it because we're going out of town. We're doing a live episode next week and I won't need anybody via zoom
Starting point is 00:01:29 until the week after, but we'll let's not get ahead of ourselves. Yeah. Let's you're jinxing it. You're jinxing. Yeah. Back after her win in the show one, the first show we did at South by Southwest it It's Blair Saki. Hey, Blair. Hi. It's so great to be back after such a huge win. That was an exciting one because Lisa Traeger was there to play. And you made mincemeat of her.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Yeah. Sometimes, you know, an understated underdog just sneaks through with ease that's one way to describe it um and also returning to the show the host of a brand new podcast the juice it's solomon giorgio hey hi hi i'm happy to be back. Never won before, so I'm excited that I'm amongst champions. Yeah, well, you know, it's a lot of champions running around on this show, because at least every episode I try to bring one back, you know, Jeopardy style. But tell us, Solomon, about your brand new podcast, The Juice. Thank you. It is all about just,'s gossip it's uh but like nothing celebrity
Starting point is 00:02:46 wise just that um fun small town retail store high school gossip uh where people would just just uh you'd hear around town and could never validate if it's it's a gossip for the unslanderable exactly so people can really tear into it not not have to feel bad about yeah they can lie if they want to and i'm fine with that yeah i go back and forth on celebrity gossip i go back and forth on you know like sometimes i'm into it other times when i read a blind item i just give up immediately because i'm like i don't want to put this much thought into uh figuring out who this is you know yeah like for me it's like i love promotional celebrity gossip like oh you have a project coming out so you have to you have to make a splash but if there's nothing for me to watch alongside and like you're just you're just around uh well thank you for being here today.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Good luck to everybody. And before we get to the games, let's get some recs. I like each of my guests on each episode of Late to recommend one motion picture. John Euler was just on, so he knew this question was coming. And he had a questionable answer on the last episode so let's see how he does let's see how he does today oh no is it possible to fail this question well i mean you know i'd like you to recommend a movie for people to enjoy watch not hate watch yeah i know i know you're right like um i was just like coasting on the last movie I had seen at that point, which was fresh in my mind.
Starting point is 00:04:26 All right. Here's a movie that I like that I have watched recently, but not too recently. Daredevil, the 2003 Daredevil with Ben Affleck. That's a good movie. Oh, no. I flunked the question again. Thank you, John. I will be taking your recommendation. Thank you, Blair. It's a pleasure to pass on a good movie to you. Thank you for you. I would have taken your recommendation if I didn't take it 20 years ago.
Starting point is 00:04:56 And I like it. Well, that's why I'm asking people to revisit this movie. You may have gotten a bad impression of it. Give it another chance. Because obviously. People are people are ready to accept Ben Affleck again. Maybe. I don't know. His last couple of movies didn't seem to do so do so well,
Starting point is 00:05:18 in spite of the fact that the gossip about him is swirling constantly. The last one I saw that he was in was when he was like an alcoholic who destroyed his family. And I was like, I don't know if this is good to watch. Like, oh, with everything in the news and everything felt too real. Absolutely. Well, this this is a refreshing change of pace from that style of movie you don't have to worry about that with daredevil it's a very feel-good story about a guy who who learns how
Starting point is 00:05:51 to help other people uh overcomes a lot of difficulties and obstacles and um and avenges his father's death so yeah also so if you like um do you like evanescence the group evanescence who are you asking who am i talking to which one of the three of us do you think can we bring ryan into this your producer no i'm listening i'm listening i'm here for the evanescence soundtrack okay if you like if you, if you're a fan of Evanescence, you're going to love Daredevil because this is the movie. This is the movie that uses the song, uh, bring me to life, wake me up inside as a, uh,
Starting point is 00:06:39 the song is playing over the montage when Jennifer Garner, her, her character, uh, her, her character's name is Electra Nachos. And she goes through a training routine, like a training montage to get revenge on Daredevil because she thinks Daredevil killed her father, even though he didn't. But it's a great training montage. And the song Bring Me to Life had flopped like they released it about a month before Daredevil came out and nobody would play it on the about a month before daredevil came out and nobody would play it on the radio and then daredevil came out and changed everything and then that
Starting point is 00:07:10 song went on to be one of the biggest of all time so that's fun i love a comeback story yeah well here's the thing on wikipedia it says they wouldn't play the evanescence song on rock radio because they didn't want to play a song with female vocals and piano in it and that sounds like them oh here i was thinking it was because it wasn't that good of a song wait are you a rock producer and dj so so you're telling me that these rock stations are passing on November rain by the great Guns N' Roses
Starting point is 00:07:49 because it has piano in it? It's possible, but it had a male vocal, so that helps cancel things. I feel like, based on the timeline of when this was happening. You can have the lady and the piano. You can have one or the other. You can have Joan Jett or a piano.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Take your pick. I'm just telling you what Wikipedia said. And you can blame Wikipedia if that's wrong. But no, it's a fun movie. It's got Joe Pantoliano in it. Michael Clarke Duncan is the kingpin. And John Favreau plays the sidekick, Foggy Nilsson, whose name is very similar to his name in Iron Man,
Starting point is 00:08:24 which is happy hogan well that is a lot about daredevil let's go to our next our next panelist blair yeah it up again no you it's nothing to up yeah let's see what blair suggests maybe she should suggest electra starring Blair suggests. Maybe she suggests Elektra starring Jennifer Garner. Oh no, no. I haven't seen any of those movies.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Look, I will be candid with you. I am a well-known incendiary so with that I will give you my recommendation for the week and that is Free Guy
Starting point is 00:09:05 oh okay yeah I know you guys think famed art critic Blair Saki wouldn't recommend Free Guy but I was taken to that movie without knowing anything about it
Starting point is 00:09:22 and then I walked out feeling renewed, joyful, surprised even by the pathos in that movie. Jodie Comer, Joe Geary, Taika Waititi, incredible performances. And yeah. Incredible that you pronounced all their names correctly. Thank you so much yeah
Starting point is 00:09:46 um yes uh i saw that movie in imax and enjoyed it very much uh they're talking free guy too already that makes sense yeah i mean because he's still a free guy i mean spoiler but uh you know he's still out there yeah and it just it went to completely direction a different direction than i thought it was going to in the beginning and also i only went to the movie because my best friend's husband is obsessed with ryan reynolds i would have never found myself in that movie and i walked out happy that's terrific story you might like other ryan reynolds movies because because that was pretty much pure uncut ryan reynolds doing his thing like a little less swearing in that one i think they went for the pg-13 but uh um yeah i mean he's he's been doing his thing in movies for a while it took you know it took the second time he did
Starting point is 00:10:42 deadpool to sort of like his thing to match up with a character. And now he's huge. And I hope we don't burn out on him because I didn't even watch Red Notice. But it just feels like Ryan Reynolds is just going to be hired to do the Ryan Reynolds thing. And as an
Starting point is 00:10:59 actor, he's probably going to want to grow a little bit. Mm-hmm. All right. So, yeah. So, Blair is definitely winning so far, John. I'm sorry to say. he's probably going to want to grow a little bit. Alright. So, yeah. So, Blair is definitely winning so far, John. I'm sorry to say. Oh, no. I'm looking for her. What are you going to do? She picked a movie that's fun and innovative
Starting point is 00:11:16 and you picked Daredevil. I'm not going to hold that against her. She worked hard for that one. I also am a fan of Free Guys. There you go. But it's not surprising. People worked hard for that one. I also am a fan of Free Guys. There you go. But it's not surprising. People already know who I am. What is your recommendation for this episode,
Starting point is 00:11:36 Simon? The last film that I watched which I loved a lot was X, which is a nice fun throwback slasher movie directed by T.I. West. We got Brittany Snow coming back as a porn star. Like they shoot a whole, like it's all about a porn film in this like random Texas town.
Starting point is 00:11:56 It's in the seventies. It's very like throwback style. And I loved it a lot. And it's, it's Mia Goth who does a great job as playing both both two two big parts which is really fun and kit kutty surprised you by being in it because i didn't realize it was him he was the whole time and it's he does a great job it's in the uh 90s i believe 94 96 range on rotten tomatoes so the critics certainly are appreci appreciating the throwback this of it.
Starting point is 00:12:30 It's always hard to know. It's not gross murders. What's that? It's good murders. Not those really grotesque, prolonged bloody murders that we've been getting with a lot of horror movies. Oh,
Starting point is 00:12:39 that's nice to hear because that's one thing I was hearing about it though, is that it is very violent and it does have plenty of blood in it uh if you're into that sort of thing yeah it's a the one through line of the you know the snippets of reviews that i'll look at because i hate having movies ruined and i am looking forward to seeing this movie the one through line seems to be that it has interesting characters which you know unfortunately so many horror films do not. And like you just said, you like the, the actors, which is, you know, that's always a good sign when you walk out saying,
Starting point is 00:13:13 I like this actor and that actor. Cause you never do that with like a Friday the 13th movie. Even when Kevin Bacon was in the Friday the 13th movie, everybody was like, Oh, that Kevin Bacon killed it. Yeah. I feel like they all like tryth movie. And we were like, oh, that Kevin Bacon killed it. Yeah, I feel like they all tried too hard. This one, it's like, I feel like they knew what was going on. This movie is very campy, and that's
Starting point is 00:13:31 the kind of horror that I grew up loving. And then I feel like there's a big departure with a lot of serious acting in the horror, which I think is unnecessary. Well, yeah, and also just the amount of time they take with the trauma that the people are going through, you know, I like a zippy fast pace horror movie.
Starting point is 00:13:51 I don't need to see somebody sit in a corner and cry for a long time. You know, if I wanted that, I'd take one of Blair's breathwork classes. I wanted to bring that up at some point during the show because I'm, I'm fascinated by it. You're the next one. You're going to, you're going to do something online that people can come and learn how to breathe. Oh yes. I will be your shepherd to teach you how to breathe. No, I have a breathwork class event online on April 18th, Monday at 530. And yeah,
Starting point is 00:14:30 it's just a great way to release a lot of feeling from your body. And for people who meditation is very difficult for them with racing thoughts and stuff, of a more physical uh experience allows you to bypass all those thoughts and have like a very in your body physical experience i like this because i really yeah that's where meditation loses me is i just can't not think about you know everything uh so it's hard to just sit and just shut down like that right that's most people so i think um when people try it there's actually no way honestly to describe it until you try it because it's completely different than whatever you think it is but people love it and when i have time i like to do one so thank you for bringing it up we'll mention it again at the
Starting point is 00:15:25 at the end of the show but it's april 18th uh what time 5 30 p.m that's pacific time yes yeah so that works for everybody's early evening no matter what part of the country or world you're in and um thank you for these recommendations i uh i am, I am going to see X. I might watch Daredevil again. Free guy I'm good on. Cause I just saw it, you know, a month or two ago, but, uh, definitely be watching at least parts of it on cable. Cause it's so visually fun constantly. Like it seems like also it'd be a fun movie to watch on a plane.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Cause, uh, you know, a lot's going on and it looks cool. Let's take a break and come back. We've got some fierce competitors. There's going to be some exciting games today. We'll play those right after these messages. We're back and it's time to play some games. We're back, and it's time to play some games. First up is a Doug Loves Movies classic spelling game that I call ABCD's Nuts.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Doug Loves Movies is coming to Florida, Miami specifically, even more specifically, Doral, Florida. That's part of Miami. At the improv there at 420 this Saturday, April 9th. So in honor of that, so that I can work in that plug and then still keep talking about it, today we're going to spell Florida, USA. Here's what I mean by spell. Our first player is John Erler. I'm going to give him the first letter in Florida, USA, which is F.
Starting point is 00:17:11 He's going to name any movie from the history of movies that begins with the letter F. And just for having done that, he continues to stay in the game. But if he matches the movie that I wrote down ahead of time for that letter, which is, you know, can be pretty tough to do, especially when you're first. Then he wins. He just wins the game outright. The next letter is L, so that'll go to Blair. And she guesses a movie that begins with L. And then O for Solomon, et cetera. until we get through Florida, USA. And a
Starting point is 00:17:47 theme has been put into place that will not maybe emerge in your minds until you've heard a few of the answers. John, are you ready? Yes. The first... It's such a silly game. It feels very serious right now uh the first letter is f can you tell me a movie that begins with the letter f yes i can i'm gonna go with uh the one we were just talking about which is free guy oh that's a good uh f title not the one i wrote down but how did you even know the theme at this point?
Starting point is 00:18:26 That's right. Right? And you still might not know the theme after I tell you what I wrote down is the motion picture called Fame. Oh. Fame, which, of course, became a TV series and then another movie. I think they made it a second time, right? And then maybe another series. It's just fame.
Starting point is 00:18:47 It just keeps going. But none of us remember any of their names. Okay, so Blair, the next letter is L. What do you got for the letter L? Wait, so Doug, do I try to think of a movie based off of you saying fame, or do I just go with what was in my head? Whichever you'd like, but you're more likely to match me if you consider fame.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Oh, okay. Right? But, you know, if you already had a good L title. Yeah, well, sorry, I had to go as Land Before Time. It was just on the forefront of my mind. Okay. The Land Before Time? The Land Before Time.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Yeah, okay. That's close enough. I'll take it. I went with a motion picture called Love, Simon. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. I went with a motion picture called Love Simon oh oh that's the next letter Solomon what do you got for the letter O this is a tough one because not a lot of movies
Starting point is 00:19:55 begin with O yeah I'm going to go with Orange County a very underrated movie I think is this SpaceX's daughter. It's the female lead. Something Fisk, I think her name is. And there's a scene in the movie where a dog bites her nose and it's real.
Starting point is 00:20:14 The dog just actually just bit her nose in that moment. Wow. Yeah. That's my takeaway from Orange County. Do you have any fun Orange County trivia, John? Are there any Evanescence songs in Orange County? I would imagine all of Orange County, the music is just Evanescence constantly. I have no fun trivia.
Starting point is 00:20:40 That's all right. But I love oranges, so. That's all I needed. O is a funny one. Did you think of something else? I was trying to think along the theme, and that's why I went for Orange County, but I feel like I should have gone with O.
Starting point is 00:20:59 But I know where you're going now. Oh, just O? The Othello movie with Miffy Piper? That one tends to come up in this game because i get stumped on the letter o but uh this o was just too hard to resist there's no way you were going to come up with this but it's a great title uh depending on how you define great um there's a movie called oy vey my son is gay with an exclamation point so uh really uh really fired up about it it's a real it's a real problem in this person's life apparently uh okay so r is the next letter back to john uh i'm gonna go with the movie we riffed recently which is uh
Starting point is 00:21:50 romeo plus juliet the leo dicaprio yeah william shakespeare's baz luhrmann's romeo plus juliet that's right with johnny legs in it it. Johnny Legs! He's great. But unfortunately, that's not what I wrote down. I wrote down a motion picture that was based on a musical called Rent. Hmm. Letter I
Starting point is 00:22:20 for Blair. Oh, God. I am quite positive this is exactly on theme. I know what you did last summer. What if I had written down I still know what you did last summer? That would have been
Starting point is 00:22:38 a fun twist. I wrote down a motion picture called In and Out. Oh, yeah. I never heard of that one. Based on the true story of a teacher who gets kind of accidentally outed somehow and
Starting point is 00:22:56 has to continue being a teacher in a small town and the reverberations. Kevin Klein plays the lead character and Tom Selleck is in it. John Cusack does a great job. Yeah, but Tom Selleck plays a
Starting point is 00:23:12 gay man in it. And it's the only role I can recall where he doesn't have his mustache. He shaved his mustache to play a gay man. His mustache to play a gay man. Anyway, that's my takeaway from that movie. But yeah, Joan Cusack is always money
Starting point is 00:23:33 in the bank. She's terrific. She's incredible. I wonder what she's been up to lately. I was just thinking about that the other day. She was just, you know, I mean, lately, how long ago did the office end because she ended up being uh what's her name's mother in the one of the last episodes of the office um but you know kimmy schmidt i can't think of a real name right now but uh
Starting point is 00:23:58 and anyway uh but she's still working she's still ellie there. Ellie Kemper. There's so much, there's so much TV and movies that are streaming that like your favorite actors are in stuff right now that you don't even watch, you know, it's like, you gotta really check up on these people. It's a good way to find interesting shows too. If you know, somebody cool is in a supporting role. There's this actress, lennon parham who's been on douglas movies a few times very funny she is a supporting character in this new show minx oh yes she's the sister of the main character and she's just so so funny and you know the show's
Starting point is 00:24:42 good too but she But she's great. Speaking of finding somebody, because if I didn't start watching Minx, I might not have known this actress I liked was even in it, you know? Yeah. Okay. Where are we at? What's happening? Okay, we just did letter I. So D, back to, is this John again?
Starting point is 00:25:01 Yeah, letter D. No, Solomon, no. Oh, Solomon, I'm sorry solomon d i know what the theme is but unfortunately do not know any movies that start with the letter d that would be about it uh yeah i'm very disappointed with myself so i'm just gonna say a movie with letter d which is gonna be dogma oh that's good that's a good one um yeah and i was just thinking a funny d title that would you know wouldn't apply because of what it's actually about but sounds like it would apply is the movie dick oh yes it's close but great yeah but what i you know
Starting point is 00:25:40 i don't know we're not we can never know for sure whether Richard Nixon was gay or not. The movie that I, we can't, you know, with all certainty, we can't know. But I wrote down a movie called Death Trap. Because there really was, there really is a lack of D movies that fit this category. But strangely, Death Trap does. All right. So now we're back to John, the letter A. I think I know the theme, and so I'm going to guess a movie that definitely has to do with the theme, and that is Ant-Man.
Starting point is 00:26:20 What? I don't know what you think the theme is I think I know the theme but I couldn't think of a movie with that theme what I wrote down was a film called As Good As It Gets I love that movie
Starting point is 00:26:40 so the next letter to Blair is U U which like generally off the top of my that movie. So the next letter to Blair is U. U? Which like, generally off the top of my head, if somebody says name of the movie that begins with the letter U, the only one I can think of is Uly's Gold. U?
Starting point is 00:26:56 Or Under. I guess words have the word Under in them. There's a few of those. Oh my god. I don't know. Yeah, it's even hard just to come up with any movie that begins with you oh my god oh i know one yeah yes uh you know if his beloved wife didn't die at the beginning we could have wondered about what he's up to but but he seems pretty straight.
Starting point is 00:27:26 Whenever I don't know a movie, I immediately scan my Disney and Pixar Rolodex. Alp was a great pull, but the movie I picked is what I feel is an overlooked motion picture that starred Paul Bettany as
Starting point is 00:27:41 Uncle Frank. Oh, wow. I never. Oh, that was on Amazon? Yeah. I liked that movie. It was good. Mm-hmm. It was really good.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Paul Bettany is a juggernaut. Yeah. I really, when I saw that, and then, you know, WandaVision and all the different things they called on him to do in that, like, I'm convinced he's very talented. Very good actor. All right. S is the next letter.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Solomon. S for Solomon. Dang it. Dang it. Dang it. Solomon, your brain. Think of one movie. It weirdly makes it more difficult when you know the theme.
Starting point is 00:28:21 Yeah. At least you can just name any movie that begins with S. But trying to think of the right one is hard. I'm just going to go... It's not a theme, but since I can't think of anything else, I'll go with Superbad. You're going to hate this
Starting point is 00:28:38 answer anyway. It's a movie that was out over the holidays. It was a Netflix movie. Oh, God! out over the holidays. There was a Netflix movie. Oh, God. Single all the way. It is a horrid movie. Yeah, I didn't enjoy that one myself.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Who was in it? That's weird. Michael Urie. Yeah. And just, you know, it's like the year before gave us that movie what was it called seasons greetings where it was like the lesbian christmas and that one i kind of enjoyed because i liked all the actors and you know it was it was funny but it also was frustrating just how to see a wacky comedy where people going out of their way to try to not admit their sexuality.
Starting point is 00:29:25 It just seems like it didn't seem very forward thinking. But Single All The Way just it takes forever into the movie before like the premise you know it already. It's called Single All The Way. Yeah. I definitely saw that. I see all of
Starting point is 00:29:42 them. It's too many attractive gay men not having sex on the first date. It's really an unbelievable movie. Fictional. False premise. And under usage of Jennifer Coolidge. Always. Except for White
Starting point is 00:29:57 Lotus, she's always underused. And I just love that the sequel to White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge is apparently going to just be the same lady just vacationing somewhere else. That's so funny. Like every other character is going to be different. So I'm very excited. I love how hard Mike White rides for her.
Starting point is 00:30:16 It's amazing. Yeah, it was good. And she still hasn't gotten her Emmy for it because of the timing. Like she'll be eligible at this next Emmys, I think. That's not until september all right um because i the second i saw her on that show she i just knew she was good enough to you know get all get all the awards because she's always been great but then to just be handed it was just every scene she was in was so so heartbreaking and funny at the same time
Starting point is 00:30:41 heartbreaking and funny at the same time. Okay. A is the final letter in this game. Probably another tough one. I don't think we're going to have a winner. But go ahead and take a swing if you want, Sean.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Oh, you don't think we're going to have a winner, A? I don't, A. You're probably right. Oh. Hmm. Hmm. Fuck it. Avatar.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Maybe there may be some themes I forgot about in that movie. There's a lot I forgot about in that movie. It was a long movie and I just remember I just remember them flying around for a little bit and talk of unobtainium. Which is hard to get apparently. Alright, because that's what they name all the they name everything after just what you would say about it. It's hard to get. Okay, let's call it unobtainium.
Starting point is 00:31:47 All right. I wrote down American Beauty. Oh, that is. Which is, you know, a problem in so many ways. It doesn't hold up as a Best Picture winner, I don't think. I watched it like a year ago and I was like, this is creepy as hell. It's really creepy. It just gets more so with age. It's really, really bizarre. So anyway, that's ABC,
Starting point is 00:32:18 these nuts and what we're calling it, we're declaring it a three-way tie. You all win. Yes. You all win. Yes. Just for playing, you all win. You get participation trophies. And we're going to play our next and final game after this break. We'll be right back. We are back. And anyone can win today.
Starting point is 00:32:41 John Erler gets to go first in our next game, just because nobody won in the first game and we'll just go back to the same order we'll go john then blair uh then solomon who for some reason i just wrote down for you know keeping score purposes i just wrote down georgio which i i'm not going to start calling that how often How often do people call you that? Like it's a first name. All the time. I would say the amount of time people are like, I can't find your information. Could you try my first name?
Starting point is 00:33:15 Instead of my last name? Well, that's a good O movie. There's a movie called O Giorgio. It is? About the opera singer, yeah. What's a movie called Oh, Giorgio. It is. About the opera singer, yeah. Or what's his name? Pavarotti played someone named Giorgio in Yes. Oh, maybe it was Yes, Giorgio.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Yeah, I think it was Yes, Giorgio, not Oh, Giorgio. That's the secret. I've heard that too. Yeah, you've heard it all. A little bit of No, Giorgio. All right. No means no, Giorgio.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Speaking of dirty things that can happen, let's play a game called parental guidance. You know, the Internet is full of people that want to tell other people what they should watch out for in movies to protect their children. And there's a whole section based on it on the Internet movie database. For each movie, they'll go through and list whether they're smoking, drinking, swearing, sex, nudity, violence, violent, sexual nudity, that kind kind of thing they'll just really go after it and also they're not great writers so the way they describe things sometimes is hilarious so i will read a piece of parental guidance that's not very helpful in determining the answer and john erler will get to go first and guess when he misses it I will give a second clue that's a little bit more helpful and Blair will be able to take those two clues and guess if she
Starting point is 00:34:55 misses it then we go to Solomon he gets a third clue that makes should make it even more easier to figure out what movie I'm talking about and if if he misses, goes back to John for one last, this will definitely give it away clue. And then each round we're playing three rounds, each round, each of you will get a chance to go first. So all of you will have a shot at that. Give me at the end, if nobody can figure it out. That seems fair.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Yeah. And then I got a tiebreaker ready to go if you all manage to tie it up in any way. Just one point for each round is available. John, are you ready? Yes.
Starting point is 00:35:37 What movie do you think has this happen in it? A character gets a knife thrown at him, but it misses. Come on. That sounds like Daredevil to me. I was just going to say that's easy. That's Daredevil.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Yeah, you know, Ben Affleck, even though he's blind in that movie, he's going to dodge a simple knife throw. Oh, for sure. Yeah. One of them he doesn't. It gets stuck in his shoulder. Oh, no.. Yeah. One of them he doesn't. It gets stuck in his shoulder. Oh, no. Yeah. Sorry. Spoiler alert.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Just that people are throwing knives at a blind guy is pretty... I'm going to watch this movie again. To be fair, one of the villains was named Bullseye. They didn't do their job at hitting his mark. Right. That's right. I forgot to mention Colin Farrell is amazing. Yeah. And he's with his henchman
Starting point is 00:36:28 shoulder knife. Okay. So what's your guess, John? Do you have a guess? Okay. It's a, that's, this is easy. This is easy. I was going to guess daredevil, but you already, I think it's probably not the right answer because you, you brought it up. It's going to be it's going to be that movie about magic
Starting point is 00:36:51 and tricks, which is the prestige. But that's not going to be it because you just did a gimme of it to me. And I was about to say prestige, but if you just fed it to me that's not going to be it you think
Starting point is 00:37:07 oh fuck I could just be explaining to you that you know you've got the right movie it seems unlike you're right I wouldn't give you the answer I don't think you would give me a gimme like that so thank you for that accidental gimme
Starting point is 00:37:23 um other movies about tricks gimme like that. So thank you for that accidental gimme. Other movies about tricks, I'm going to say The Lone Ranger. I'm going to say that that is incorrect. I just found my incorrect noisemaker. Blair, you get that clue
Starting point is 00:37:50 plus this one. A character admits with a positive attitude that she went skinny dipping in front of her children at a public lake. Oh, shit. Yeah, very specific. Oh, no. oh shit yeah very specific oh no i like that she's she's telling the story with a positive attitude that's why it's a parental warning like she's giving she's putting a positive
Starting point is 00:38:14 spin on skinny dipping in front of the children god i love skinny dipping okay at first I was going to, I had knives and stuff. I was thinking maybe something Tarantino now skinny dipping in front of children. God. And she's just saying that she, you know, that she did it sometime. I don't know if it actually occurs in the movie. Right. Okay. You know, that's how much they warn you. They'll warn you about things. They'll warn you about hearsay. They'll warn you about things they talk about in the movie knives um god uh i'm like i don't know i'm gonna say knives out i don't know
Starting point is 00:38:58 this is the way this early christmas game works if you could think of a movie where a knife gets thrown at somebody, that might be the answer. But obviously, there's so many to choose from and so many to not remember. Here's the third clue for Solomon. There is a scene involving Mr. Brown who cross-dresses as a cleaning lady and the safety guard oh my god yeah so can you think of any movies that have a mr brown who would dress as a cleaning lady
Starting point is 00:39:34 and not any safety guard the safety guard i'm trying to oh my god it's not this is not correct but i know it's a comedy i now is it old school no it is not old school john you get the giveaway clue and i apologize in advance this doesn't actually give it away yeah but i feel like it should here we go give it away, but I feel like it should. Here we go. Nicole Kidman's character is a taxidermist who wants to stuff the title character and put him in a museum. Oh, okay. That's so funny. I thought I had it with Blair's clue, but then with Solomon's, I lost it. But I think
Starting point is 00:40:24 I got it back, and i think the movie is paddington that is correct i knew it i knew it when you said nicole kidman yeah that's that's why i call that one the giveaway um uh all of that information is pretty telling that it's paddington but also i guess you know mr brown if you're a paddington fan you might recognize that character name i saw the movie i do not recall a lady telling saying that she swims naked in front of her children uh and i think the knife might have been do you think somebody throws a knife at paddington god i hope not. That poor
Starting point is 00:41:05 little guy. I mean, he goes through a lot of shit in that movie, so I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe it was like a butter knife. It doesn't say what kind of knife it was. Alright, so John gets the gimme point, but it's a point
Starting point is 00:41:21 nonetheless. And Blair, you're in the catbird seat now because you get to go first in this next round. You get the toughest clue and then maybe the easiest clue. This one starts with the first half of the movie has several scenes
Starting point is 00:41:40 with the two main characters doing weed. Pineapple Express. Great guess. Not the correct answer. But I appreciate the speediness of your answer.
Starting point is 00:41:57 There should be speed points. Okay, Solomon. During the party scene, a man gets stabbed in the hand. Gosh, dang it. So much knife play in these clues today. Does Harold and Kumar go to White Castle? It isn't, but terrific guess.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Both of those things feel like they would happen in that movie. Clue number three, going to John Erler. One use of cocksucker by Mark Wahlberg, but it's hard to hear and easy to miss. So they're warning people, hey, make sure your kids don't watch this movie where this thing's going to happen where they probably won't notice it
Starting point is 00:42:52 anyway. Right. Like they're searching for cocksuckers. They're like going out of their way. What did he just say under his breath? We got to find out and tell people so that they don't watch something where they're not going to know what he just said. Right.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Do you have any guesses? Obviously it's a Mark Wahlberg. Right. I was going to say Paddington too, until I heard Mark Wahlberg, but let's see. Yeah, I don't know. I'm just going to say Boogie Night, but that's probably not it. It's probably not it. Probably incorrect. There's some cocksucking in that movie.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Oh, yeah, for sure. Cocksucking. Damn. Where are we at? Okay, Blair gets the easy clue. Yes. Do you feel like you're honing in on it or do you feel like you're still I have a guess. I'll meet. I have a guess. Okay. Well, here's the clue that's going to give it away. A man and
Starting point is 00:43:57 a talking stuffed animal. Wait. A man and a talking stuffed animal what? Drink and get drunk a lot. Ted or Ted who? Which one do you want to go? It's Ted. It's Ted. I said Ted first. You did. You're covering your bases. All right. blair got the this is all working out according to plan
Starting point is 00:44:29 we're going to have to play a tiebreaker if if this works out for solomon uh here's your first clue this is the one that you know probably won't give it away uh two topless women sit in a hot tub as a man videos them. At one point, they lick each other's tongues. Wild things? No. Oh, that's good, though. Yeah, it's really good. Yeah, that's a good guess.
Starting point is 00:45:00 John, here's your clue. Okay. Okay. John, here's your clue. Okay. A gay man tries to kiss another man who is straight and rejects him in disgust. Hmm. Oh.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Hmm. Shit. I'm going to say Boogie Nights. You just said Boogie Nights. I'm going to say it again. Are you just going to say Boogie Nights. You just said Boogie Nights. I'm going to say it again, Doug. Are you just going to say it every time? Don't try to stop me. Every possible... That is correct.
Starting point is 00:45:34 It is Boogie Nights. You did it. Unbelievable. Wow. You tried to stop me. Yeah. The Philip Seymour Hoffman, Mark Wahlberg scene. Philip Seymour Hoffman, brilliant actor always,
Starting point is 00:45:53 but that scene is so damn good and so sad. And the final clue, the easy, suppose the easy one was going to be a man exposes his penis for 10 seconds. This is obviously a prosthetic and meant to be funny. I do. I, you know,
Starting point is 00:46:16 I've seen boogie nights a few times and I don't feel like that moment's supposed to get a laugh. I don't know. I laughed. I mean, it's shocking. So shocking so i guess yeah so people are laughing out of just pure like to be fair i do laugh whenever i see a penis which makes my love life very difficult well you know and uh maybe you should watch minx alone because uh that show is it's the most penises i've ever seen in any piece of modern entertainment.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Besides Jackass, the most current one. Oh, the current Jackass. You see all their dongs. Oh, it's straight dong. The whole time.
Starting point is 00:46:55 It is 24, seven dong in the new Jackass and balls and butthole. Like it is. You see it all. Wow. It's like being a doctor or is. You see it all. Wow. It's like being a doctor or something. It is like being a doctor. It's just like being a doctor watching the new jackass.
Starting point is 00:47:13 Yeah. You get to check out all that, all that private stuff. I was going to watch, I was going to watch free guy, but now I'm going to watch. Yeah. Yeah. The working title for the new Jackass was butthole forever.
Starting point is 00:47:30 They decided they should stick with the kids. Keep the Jackass in there just to get people Jackass. Well, I guess I could have gone with, but congratulations, John. Earlier. You did it. You are a winner today. Thank you. Yeah. Very, very impressive. Also, you know, you were throwing around Paddington 2 earlier, which was the answer in the tiebreaker question. Oh, wow. That we didn't need to use. The tiebreaker is just the easiest, you know, it's just one giveaway clue.
Starting point is 00:48:05 And so the clue I had for Paddington 2 was the scene where Paddington almost drowns is quite intense. I didn't win this episode, but I actually did come out on top, remembering that I need to watch Paddington 2 again. Oh, okay, yeah. It's a classic, and it keeps coming up. I just saw it referenced
Starting point is 00:48:34 in something last night, and I saw it referenced in a movie a few weeks ago, so really it's having its day, this Paddington movies and i guess they are going to make a paddington 3 they need to paddington 2 is one of the best movies of all time and i am a shrewd critic so i think i i think i even read some casting news that they got
Starting point is 00:48:59 somebody cool to play the villain in the third one but but now I can't remember. Because Hugh Grant is like, that was award caliber, his work in Paddington 2. All the time. He's so fun in that. He's never, you know, when he first started he was kind of fun, setter and guy. But then, you know, he mostly plays serious roles, you know, like, oh no, who am I getting blessed?
Starting point is 00:49:20 But now he's like, the bad guy in Paddington 2 and having the time of his life. He's so fun in that movie. There's choreography. Anyway. So, John, congratulations. We'll be having you back on the show soon.
Starting point is 00:49:35 I mean, everybody's going to come back. That goes without saying. But John will be back the soonest. And what would you like to plug today, John? the soonest and uh what would you like to plug today john um just uh you can see us riff movies four nights a week from wednesday to saturday and we're on twitch and it's free and just go to twitch and probably see something you like on the evenings of wednesday thursday friday and saturday i don't know what next week's schedule is looking like I think Rex Manning Day is coming up next week so maybe we do Empire Records on Friday
Starting point is 00:50:08 but I'm not sure yet oh okay Empire Records and Daredevil yeah it's really become a thing lately of like people you know when you're on social media you'll find out if a
Starting point is 00:50:26 date gets mentioned in a in a movie that's got any kind of popularity right uh it just sort of comes up when that date comes around that's right um so that's that's always fun exactly mean mean girls uh mean girls day what is that like october 23 or something i thought it was in the single digits but it's definitely October, yeah. Yeah, early October, I think you're right. But anyway, thank you, John, for being here and for
Starting point is 00:50:53 winning again. I'm sorry, I apologize. You're going to have to have me back on, and I'll try to make it as painless as possible. Starting point is 00:51:09 That'll be satisfying. Don, it would be less painless if you didn't guess things on guess two. I'm sorry. I appreciate that as contestants. Yeah.
