Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers, screaming babies, sticky seeds with 50 acid pop or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see, cause Doug loves movies! Hey, hey, hey everybody! My name is Doug and I love Slurpees! This is Doug Loves Movies, coming to you once again from Uncertaintyville with another Homes Alone edition. It's Sunday 7-11 2021 and my guest
Starting point is 00:00:33 today, two out of three of them are here. A bunch of G's. I got a bunch of G's. Dylan Galula, Chris Gethard and Ben David Grabinski. It's a theme show, rated G. And of course, one of them's not here, but we'll get to that in a second. First, let's say hello to first-time guest, star of Shithouse, Kimmy Schmidt, and other things.
Starting point is 00:01:05 It's Dylan Galula. Hello, Dylan. Hello. Thanks for having me. Thank you for doing this. I was so excited when I saw that you were following me on Twitter. And then when I said, will you come on this show? You said, sure, no problem. And that's great. Thank you for being here. Thanks for having me.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Do you, have you heard the show before? Actually, yes, I have. Oh, okay. My older brother was a big fan of it and we would listen to it when he would drive me in his car places. There you go. See, that's where I lucked out is you got to, you know, I was about to say cool older brother, but you have an older brother. That's the thing. I was about to say cool older brother, but you have an older brother. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:01:50 And he listened to me, which is awesome. So does he know that you're doing the show now? I texted him and told him he didn't respond. He's so over it. Well, that's awesome. Do you have anything? I know, you know, obviously this last year has been a bit of a hiatus for a lot of people but uh is there anything you've got uh cooking right now that people can see no thank you thank you for your honest answer
Starting point is 00:02:19 i'll ask you again at the end of the show if you want to take us out you want to make something up before okay okay or or you could vision board it you could say some things that you'd like to do I'll ask you again at the end of the show if you want to make something up before that. Okay. Or you could vision board it. You could say some things that you'd like to do. Okay. And you never know. Like, you know, people behind the show, Ted Lasso, listen to this podcast. Would you like to be on Ted Lasso? I'm available.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I don't really like to travel. Yeah, that's why I turned it down. I'm not going over there. Exactly. I'm staying on the American side of the pond. Yeah, they shoot that in Serbia. Also joining us today is the star of Class Action Park. He's not here.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Chris Gethard, great friend of the show. He's appeared on it in St. Louis, in New York, and LA, I think, and I was hoping here today, but we sent him the wrong link, and then I sent him a corrected link,
Starting point is 00:03:23 but we're not sure if he's going to figure that out or not. So filling in, pinch hitting for Chris Gethard, who just happens to be, you know, producer Ryan's never been a guest on the show, but he's not here today. Coincidentally, it is frequent guests on the show. Matt Belknap. Hey, Matt. Hey, Doug. How's it going
Starting point is 00:03:45 it's going pretty good except for the missing guest part yeah how are you doing i'm good that is weird how ryan has never been maybe it's just because i'm the one who keeps screwing up the link thing that's how i keep ending up here you keep getting yourself on the show yeah it's a good very diabolical scheme yeah uh i don't think i think ryan i don't know maybe he wouldn't be mind being a guest once but i don't i feel like he's not i don't get that energy from him i don't think he's dying to do it but i think it would be fun i would like to hear him play the games because he's he's heard the games probably i mean there's must be listeners who've listened to every episode but he's here for almost every episode so he would probably be good at them i would think so yeah
Starting point is 00:04:29 and he really does pay attention because he'll jump in sometimes when i screw something up um but yeah uh or or he also jumps in when there's you know sound issues but we'll try to reschedule chris for sometime soon he had something specific that he was promoting that's why it was set up through a publicist and um you know unfortunately when that happens and we tape on a sunday so you know uh people aren't necessarily gonna answer the call when we screw up i know he has a new uh a new stand-up special that that he was very diy type thing that he shot at a bunch of different clubs around, right. I think right before the pandemic, um, I watched it. It was great. So if, if you're a,
Starting point is 00:05:11 if you're a fan of Chris Gethard and standup comedy, check it out. I don't know the name of it, but you can find it just by searching Chris Gethard. Yeah. Also listen to, um, what is that episode of never not funny out yet? Oh yeah. He was on never not funny. Uh, the other show that I produce, um, about a month ago, maybe six weeks ago. And yeah. So go check that out, too.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Listen to Never Not Funny and listen to that episode. You'll hear all the fun anecdotes that you would have heard today. Just a different person asking him questions. Yeah, that's the that's the only difference between Douglas movies and Never him questions. Yeah, that's the only difference between Doug Lowe's movies and Never Not Funny. It's just the tone of the voice of the host is the only difference. Otherwise, identical.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Did you guys just do a bunch of promo for a guest who's not here? That's how bad we feel. Yeah, we're like trying to compensate for how bad we feel about screwing this up. Okay, that's great. Yeah, I think I even already posted something about how he was going to be on
Starting point is 00:06:07 because I just didn't foresee this happening. And he also might come stumbling in any moment. Right. You know, we'll leave a door open like we always do for our good friend, Elijah. And our returning champion, director, movie lover, Ben David Grabinski. Hi, I'm Ben David Grabinski.
Starting point is 00:06:32 You may know me from winning last week. You know, I don't have anything to promote because obviously everyone's seen Happily by now. If you have not seen the motion picture happily that I wrote and directed starring Joel McHale and Carrie Bichet and Natalie Z and Paul Shear and Natalie Morales and a bunch of people, you can rent or buy it digitally or physically. And there you go. I just had to say it because I'm on the show. So I feel like I can promote something. That's a, that's a you know a cast where uh several of the people have have been on doug loves movies i always like to it's always fun to see that when that happens and that's why i cast him i was like i told my cast they can only they had to have all
Starting point is 00:07:19 been guests on doug loves movies or i'm not even going to talk to him and she thought i was insane but she listened so that's what happened well some of them slipped in there somehow because i don't recall i'll recall joel mckale ever being on douglas movies has john daly been on here he's welcome john daly was one of the best guests ever on getting doug with high Like he got, he was so much fun. Yeah, he's a super fun dude. As long as he has a saxophone around, he can't fail. Oh man, there was no saxophone in the room, but that sounds amazing. He's the only person I know who's stand up is like enhanced by him having a saxophone around his neck.
Starting point is 00:08:01 It's just, it's a good bit. I'm a fan. Yeah, I like it just in theory. Before we start playing games, you know, this is a, this is a good stall tactic for maybe Chris Gethard will show up and he'll tap out. Matt DelNap will, will leave the ring and Chris will jump in. I don't even care if he's in his tights or street clothes,
Starting point is 00:08:24 we'll just let him into the game. But that once we start the game. I don't even care if he's in his tights or street clothes. We'll just let him into the game. But once we start the game, I don't know. We'll see. We'll see if it seems like an appropriate time for him to take over. But in the meantime, let's visit Recommendation Nation. That's where each of my guests recommend one movie. And Ben David Grabinski always goes with a really, he picks really great movies,
Starting point is 00:08:48 but I feel like he understands the premise that we're looking for films that people don't know, but that they will love if they check them out. Then David, what do you have for us this week? Oh, I'm going to start. All right. Well, I'm going to recommend a movie I watched earlier today because I did a James Spader double with some friends. I recommend Jack's Back from the 80s. The director of Roadhouse,
Starting point is 00:09:20 someone is recreating the Jack the Ripper murders in Los Angeles, uh, for the anniversary. And James Spader plays a young medical student, uh, who's really like kind at heart and suspicious of somebody. And he gets killed 10 minutes into the movie, spoiler alert, and his twin shows up to find out who killed him. So it's got everything you could look for in a movie. It's got two James Spaders. It's got the director of roadhouse.
Starting point is 00:09:51 It has a murder mystery. It has a possible supernatural element and it has Jack's back. Cause Jack the Ripper is seemingly returned. So there's also a character named Jack. So basically Jack, Jack's back is really cool it's on prime if you want to stream it and i would say uh that's it okay i mean when you're talking director of roadhouse i think it's fun to say his name out loud rowdy harrington my theory is like the only way your name could be rowdy harrington and you grew up to direct
Starting point is 00:10:26 roadhouse is like your mom was a stunt woman and she gave her to you like on set while something was exploding then you grew up on movie sets and like learned stunts when you're five and you eventually end up directing roadhouse or jack's back like i think if you name your kid rowdy they can only have a really cool story to their life. How many movies do you think Rowdy's directed? He did a striking distance, which has the best tagline of all time with Bruce Willis, where it's. Wait, you know what? I have it off the top of my head. I don't want to mess it up because I just said it to someone earlier today and I had it backwards and I was like super embarrassed,
Starting point is 00:11:07 but the tagline is, Oh, they shouldn't have put him in the water if they didn't want him to make waves. That is a good one. I think it was really worth me fumbling for like 45 seconds to figure out what the tagline was. So yeah, Rowdy Harrington, he only makes exciting motion pictures that I recommend on podcasts. Okay. Um, let's go to Matt Belknap.
Starting point is 00:11:36 What do you, uh, what do you recommend these days? Uh, well, I, you know, I, I'm still stuck in when this used this segment used to be like what did you last most recently see so i was like thinking i just saw black widow which which i liked a lot but if we're going with like movies that i feel like don't get their due or you know maybe people younger people might not know this movie but i love this movie a lot which is um flirting with disaster the uh ben stiller patricia Arquette movie, to me, just like a perfect indie screwball comedy and so many great performances. Alan Alda and George Segal, who we recently lost, and Lily Tomlin.
Starting point is 00:12:19 It's just you didn't hear they found George Segal. Oh, good. Thank God they found him. Thank you for updating me on that i've been i've been worried about it uh uh yeah but it's just like uh it's i mean i'm sure it's very nice i haven't seen it in a long time it's it's very 90s in in some ways but it holds up yeah okay good good thank you for confirming that uh because yeah i just it's it's david o russell i think it's his second movie, which is it a second movie?
Starting point is 00:12:47 Yeah. Spanking the monkey was the first. Yeah. Yeah. It's like usually second movies can be dicey for people sometimes, but this one to me was like just a bullseye. So check it out. Yeah. It was like spanking the monkey with a bunch of, you know, great actors. And then, you know, now he's got this weird like company of actors that like work with him every time but then there's other like uh detractors uh out there so it's it's you either team uh that guy or not you know yeah because that i just remembered he
Starting point is 00:13:18 made then he put lily tomlin and i heart huckabees and they got a big very public fight that we got to hear the clip of, which is another entertaining thing. If you want to look up, just listen to the late Lily Tomlin cursing out David O. Russell. I'm sure it's on the internet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:32 So I guess they got along. Okay. The first time, but he's definitely had some issues like George Clooney. He and George Clooney really went out. Yeah. Yeah. They,
Starting point is 00:13:41 they had a physical fight, I think even. Yeah. I think he was, it sounds like he was not a very nice guy on the set and and i think clooney was like uh fuck you like don't yeah the other actors and so yeah yeah look if you want to get an oscar like obviously you're gonna want to star in his movies so that kind of outweighs the other things yeah yeah that's what happens you got to really make a choice. Um, but it,
Starting point is 00:14:06 that is a really good movie. Great recommendation. Uh, Dylan, you've had a little time to think about this. I'm sorry to spring this question on you, but can you recommend a movie? Yes. I've been so nervous beginning of the segment. I've been freaking out and sweating um i'm gonna recommend a couple well okay i feel like uh i don't i don't purport to have seen any movies that other people haven't seen i feel like i'm really behind and catching up and like everything's very obvious but um the director mike lee became new to me in the last year uh i don't know if you guys have
Starting point is 00:14:41 ever seen my glee movies they're all um best uh acting for my money that i can find um yeah his movies have tremendous acting they could they could lean a little heavy yeah i really think that it's the best acting you can find on film yeah uh the the 2001 movie the believer with r Ryan Gosling, uh, where he plays a neo-Nazi who's actually Jewish. Yeah. He's super conflicted. He's so conflicted. It wasn't a comedy if I remember correctly. No, and honestly performance.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Well, that's a, I think that's a good one because I think a lot of people that would probably slip by people and, uh, you know, um, I think all three of these, it's a good competition of, uh, you know, movies that, uh, you know, the average person probably hasn't seen as most has seen one of them, you know? So, uh, I'm very happy with these recommendations and we're going take a break, and the games will begin when we get back. We'll be right back. We're back.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Time to play a game. The first one we're going to play today is called ABCD's Nuts. It's a spelling game, and we're going to spell. Today's date is July 11. So in honor of those stores that used to be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at night, but now they're all open 24 hours, so the name doesn't make sense. We're going to spell 7-11.
Starting point is 00:16:22 By spell, I mean this. I'm going to give you, starting with, we go in alphabetical order, so we'll start with Matt Belknap. You snaked into the first spot, too. Do you want to? You could use Chris Gethard's name as my name, and then Dylan could go first if you want. No, that's all right, because going first is not great in this game anyway it's not gonna help you okay because i'm
Starting point is 00:16:50 gonna name i'm gonna say the first letter at 7-eleven which is an s and you're gonna name any movie that begins with the letter s but if you figure out the theme that i've you know picked for this uh and match the movie that i've written down, then you win the game automatically. But to stay in the game, all you've got to do is name any movie that begins with that letter. It's kind of a tough one because there's a lot of weird letters, a lot of E's and then a couple of V's.
Starting point is 00:17:15 But start with Matt. Okay, it starts with S. The first letter is S, so name any movie that begins with S, you match me. And we're spelling 7-1111 or just 7. We're spelling 7-11. Okay. So I'm going to go with a very creative 7. Yeah, I might have. That's the sort of thing I might have done, but I didn't. I said
Starting point is 00:17:39 I picked a movie called Suburbia. So now we go to Dylan Galula. The letter is E. I'm going to say Evil Dead. Or do I have to say, is that the Evil Dead? It depends on the version, I think. But there are ones that are called Evil Dead. So I will accept that.
Starting point is 00:18:00 What do you think, Grabinski? Is it those sometimes? It could be, but I just call it evil dead so you know since i'm in charge here i'm gonna let her have it yeah i think it's evil dead evil dead too and then maybe the reboot might have been the evil dead but i'm not sure that might even have been just evil dead can you put the if it's like the letter t that seems like cheating because there's just too many right well that's the thing there is no letter t in this particular one but yes i try to stray away from that and i also prefer people not to use words at movies to begin with uh as their answer when the letter is t because i you know it's like when
Starting point is 00:18:43 you look up a movie in a in, like a Leonard Maltin book, you know, they're alphabetized with a and the, the article, which by the way, I was watching jeopardy the other night. You don't have to get the correct a or the at the beginning of a, a or the answer in final jeopardy. You can screw that up. You can say the, you know, you could say the bridge know you could say the bridge too far instead of a bridge too far and you still win well that's the reason i've never been on jeopardy and if i had known that i would have gone on before now i was just really worried about that it's
Starting point is 00:19:16 really holding you back and and the watch is the name of the movie that I wrote down. So we have Suburbia, End of Watch, and the letter V goes to Ben David Kravinsky. This isn't your guess, but I don't have it in me to try hard enough to figure this out. So I'm going to say V for Vendetta. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:42 I mean, that's a classic go-to when the letter is V v but i went with venom venom yeah we got suburbia and watch venom they all have something in common in my opinion the next letter is e for matt i i can't figure out the pattern and uh like ben david don't have the energy to try any harder. So I'm going to, I'm going to go with another movie that I would have recommended this one instead of kicking and screaming,
Starting point is 00:20:11 I mean instead of flirting with disaster if I had thought of it, but edge of 17, another great movie that I love. Oh, okay. I think that's the edge of 17. God damn it. Actually it's an, it's an edge of 17. Uh, uh,'s an edge all right how about edge of tomorrow but that's okay that's lived i repeat lived i repeat yeah edge of tomorrow always works too but neither one of those matches when the answer i wrote down is encino man oh boy yeah man. Oh boy. Yeah. What the hell is this theme? Yeah. The letter is N to Dylan.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Never rarely, sometimes always. That's a, that's a movie from the recent abortion genre. Yeah. Excellent drama. And then there's also a couple ones that are kind of funny on pregnant and plan B, but I went with nothing to lose. Hmm. Lose. I feel like these all have convenience store bodegas.
Starting point is 00:21:16 I know. Oh, really? Well, we're spelling seven 11. So that's an interesting. Oh, wow. I just don't, I don't know where I got. I came to that. Yes. Uh, he is the next letter for uh ben david
Starting point is 00:21:30 uh eight below no uh employee of the month oh yeah okay now that we know the theme it's just going to be even worse when we can't match you because like that's a crazy thing to have to match yeah i mean it's tricky for sure uh the letter to you matt is l yeah uh there's probably a convenience store in this but i don't think it's going to be your pick leaving las vegas oh definitely uh, Nicholas Cage dancing down the aisles, getting his booze. Uh, but I went with Logan because uh, the little, you know, little girl in that movie gets some, uh, get some treats. Um, he is back
Starting point is 00:22:19 to Dylan. I can't, I don't know how to participate in the theme, but, um, I was thinking the Gus Van Zandt movie. Elephant. Yes, very good. You're going to go really dark on all of these and I like it. I don't like to have fun. Exterminator 2 is what I
Starting point is 00:22:40 picked. Maybe that'll make sense to somebody someday if they ever watch exterminator two, but that makes the next letters V and it goes to who's next. Ben David. Uh, I'm going to go with venom too. Oh my God. So close. Cause I, cause I couldn't, I couldn't think of another V so I just said
Starting point is 00:23:06 Venom again oh come on you almost got it that was a tight one E to Matt come on yeah that's rough that doesn't make sense because I have guessed
Starting point is 00:23:23 Venom alright fine it's okay I don't think there's a convenience store in this movie in fact i i think there's only one location but i like it so i'm gonna say ex machina oh okay yeah they're just in that uh super fancy place that turns out it's a hotel that they filmed in a hotel looks like that wow i didn't know that yeah i want to stay there yeah like in the trees and the windows and stuff um that i didn't research that far but i bet you not i bet you're not in this country right i think i think it's burbank but for you yeah that's the safari and there's no way they dressed it up it's really changed since uh modern romance no true romance um uh for e i went with uh
Starting point is 00:24:09 i couldn't think of another e so i didn't see no man again and then are you kidding me and then finally finally finally the letter n to you could win this whole thing dylan if you can come up with the the movie that has scenes in either a grocery or convenience store and begins with the letter n and uh but no shame if you if you don't know it um i can't i'm not gonna waste your time and pretend like i can uh i'm just gonna say no country for old men and be okay with it. Oh, good one. Well, that would have been a perfect one because Anton Chigger likes to go into convenience stores and tell people, you know, he flips the coin
Starting point is 00:24:53 and gives them the cattle prod. Yeah, and prod is a way too general name for the thing that he used. But I went with National Lampoon's Animal House. Okay. Yeah. Food fight. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:09 So I guess that's more of a buffet, but they also go to Food King and loot it during the riot at the end of the movie. And also that's the scene where Tim Matheson and the dean's wife discuss cucumbers in the grocery store. So nobody wins that game, but that's sort of the way that game goes. So we're going to play another game to determine the winner today. And so we'll go back to alphabetical order and we'll do that right after this break. We'll be right back. We're back.
Starting point is 00:25:45 How are we doing on time, Matt? We're doing all right. We got. I think we're doing real good. Yeah. I think we're doing real good. Yeah. But I think it's safe to say that Chris Gethard won't be joining us.
Starting point is 00:25:56 I think you're right. I think you're right. And, you know, I hope everything's good in his world. Everybody check out special where he goes around to a bunch of different places and does stand up available on a place where that sort of stuff is it's on all streaming platforms like amazon prime and apple tv all that stuff that's that's i watched it on on one of those things and it's called uh half my life i looked that up okay uh yeah he's great and uh as ben david pointed out earlier we've given him a lot of a lot of love i think you should also let your listeners know that when you take a break we
Starting point is 00:26:32 don't get one so we're just we do this straight through yeah and yeah mentally tiring about it mentally it's real we didn't get to take a break while this happened yeah yeah anyway let's get wait let me i gotta write a couple things down here uh because i don't want to screw up this game because chris is officially out so matt will go first and then the rest of the orders the same. Then Dylan and then Ben David and Ben David is of course, this is your third show in a row. It's my second, but I'm glad I was that memorable. You just came on once and won and this is your second appearance.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Yes, I'm back. The sequel is not as good as the original, I feel, but it's okay. No, I really thought that you'd already won twice. I thought this was your third appearance, but I lose track of these things. This game we're going to play right now is called Oh Yeah, Sunshine. I'll name a movie.
Starting point is 00:27:45 And the game is this. You have to tell me if that movie has the song Oh Yeah by Yellow or Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves or both. Shut the fuck up. The way this works is I'll name a movie and Matt gets a guess. If it's one or the other or both, I mean, I'll name the movie. And then he'll say if it's Sunshine, oh, yeah, or both. If he misses, then it goes to Dylan. Now she's got only two answers to choose from 50 50 shot and then if
Starting point is 00:28:27 she misses it goes to ben david and it's a gimme because there'll only be one option left at that point and um you know whenever somebody gets a point the next person gets to go first and it goes like that and uh you know don't panic because you, you know, a guess can be the right answer. Is everybody all right? Isn't that four options because it's like it has yellow or has the other one or it has both or has none? No, there's no none. It's either one of the other.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Oh, so it definitely has one of them. Is, oh, yeah, the ferris bueller song yeah that's a fun way to play just start naming movies that it might no no no no well i'm just saying is it that song like the oh yeah oh yeah is it that song would have been how i would have described it instead of i'm sorry well you didn't have to. But you also, you know, walking on sunshine, right? Yes. Is it that song? Is it the song from boat trip? All right, let's go.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Yes. Yes. Boat trip. I think. I don't know. So that you're first. Yeah. so uh that your first yeah oh yeah sunshine or both dana carvey's the master of disguise oh man i was really hoping the first one was going to be ferris bueller's day off it's like i was so ready for it i was even before ben david said that i was ready for it. Even before Ben David said that, I was ready for it. Master of Disguise. This is going to be a total blind guess. Inexplicably, I never saw that movie, even though I love Dana Carvey.
Starting point is 00:30:16 And I've heard it's actually decent. Even in recent times, I've heard. Yeah, people like it. Yeah. I'm going to say, by then, by that point in time, I think yellow was a little out of favor. That song had been used too much. So I'm just going to say walking on sunshine is in it and that's it. That is correct. Woo. Yeah. I wish I had my whistle with me. I, uh,
Starting point is 00:30:42 I'm traveling. So I forgot to bring my sound effect, but that is the correct answer. Matt, you're on the board with one point. Dylan, you're up first. The next movie is a motion picture starring Sam Rockwell called Moon. Okay. Does that have, oh, yeah, yeah walking on sunshine or both i haven't seen it but i can picture seeing it um at a video rental store as a child i can picture the cover of the dvd
Starting point is 00:31:18 um it seemed like it was kind of serious so I don't think it would have the Oh Yeah song. Is neither an option or is it one? No, it's one or the other or both. So neither has Oh Yeah and Walking on Sunshine or both of them. Okay, but the answer to the previous one was just Walking on Sunshine. So I don't think, okay, you know what? Actually, I'm going to say it only has Oh Yeah. That's incorrect. Okay. Ben David. Sorry, Ben David.
Starting point is 00:31:48 I just want to add that Master of Disguise has my favorite IMDb trivia ever, which is I can't have it in front of me because I'd be cheating. But it's something to the effect of when they were filming the famous turtle scene, 9-11 happened. So the team took a break to have a moment of silence before filming yes uh and I'm sure it's less it's better if I was actually just reading it but anyway but why have I also heard that that's crazy that I also remember hearing that about that movie that's it's a it's a weird I mean I assume it's true but it seems like an urban legend I think it's the most famous trivia about nine 11. I mean, you know, nine 11 happened, nine 11 happened on a weekday morning.
Starting point is 00:32:29 So there were a lot of things in production. So, you know, a lot of productions probably have a story that's similar to that because I'd imagine people would stop what they're doing to watch. I know I was working on a set when the challenger exploded and everybody just gathered in a room and watched a TV for a while. Okay. I made this dark.
Starting point is 00:32:50 My whole point was I just thought it was funny that someone uploaded that. Not that 9-11 was funny, but great. I ruined it. I'm the sunshine song. It's a sunshine song. That was what was in move. Let's change the subject. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Okay. I mean, I'll run the show if you want. It's not too much trouble. I mean, I don't mind going a little, a little dark. It's the, you know, it's the thing that happened. I was just watching splash and I, you know, it was so sad when I saw the, the world trade center, you know, the towers are just very visible in a shot in that and of course many other movies but to the to the question at hand moon which is it is kind of a heavy movie
Starting point is 00:33:34 you're right about that dylan but you know probably has a ironic sequence where walking on sunshine plays so that is a correct answer for Ben David Grabinski. Congratulations. You're on the board. You have one point. Yeah, exactly. There's that noise. You might be coming back for a third week. Maybe that's what it is, Ben David. Maybe it's a prophecy.
Starting point is 00:33:59 But Matt Belknap is up next. A documentary has Oh Yeah, or Walking on Sunshine, or both. And that documentary is called Three Identical Strangers. Yeah, I remember that movie. That was good. Crazy story.
Starting point is 00:34:20 crazy story. Hmm. I mean, it definitely, it's those guys grew up in the eighties. It's about these triplets who were separated at birth and adopted by different families. So I could definitely see both of those songs being played in there. I'm going to say both.
Starting point is 00:34:41 That is incorrect. Damn it. Yeah. Dylan. I feel like it has to be. Damn it. Yeah. Dylan. I feel like at this point, it has to be oh yeah, just because the previous two. That's my strategy. I'm looking at a test-taking strategy. And I think that it has to be oh yeah at this point.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Okay. That would be incorrect. Ben, David? I have a really strong guess okay um i think it's walking on sunshine that is correct that's another point for you matt yeah bean bean the rowan atkinson is a motion picture bean Yeah. Bean. Bean. The Rowan Atkinson is a motion picture. Bean.
Starting point is 00:35:33 The motion picture of the British comedy series with Rowan Atkinson. Bean. Is that what we're talking about? The series first before they made a movie. It was something. It was on TV. It was on HBO, I think here, but I think it was on in England on some, whatever channel they have. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:44 The Bean show. Yeah. They're called Bean. I think it was called in England's on some, whatever channel they have. Oh, okay. I think it was called Mr. Bean. That's what, that's why it was. I watched it on PBS growing up. Okay. Like late night PBS. Right. Also you can probably also play black ad or two, right? Yeah, I think so. Yeah. And Monty Python, like there was a real nice uh bunch of uh amazing british comedies that just played on bbs for some reason i guess it was before uh you know bbc america um anyway walking on sunshine final answer you're going walking on sunshine
Starting point is 00:36:17 yeah that's right for the movie bean yep okay you know he's british right yeah it's not very sunny over there but it's ironic where i don't know where katrina's from but but uh matt beldap is correct that is the correct answer yeah congratulations dylan i advise you to throw away everything you know about taking tests for me but now i'm gonna stick stick to it. I think, I don't know. Yeah. You just never, you never know which way it's going to go. This motion picture. I think I'm familiar with what it is, but I'm not absolutely sure. It's called raise her voice.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Raise your voice. No raise her voice. Raise her voice. Yeah. Okay. I know, right? Because there's a movie called Raise Your Voice also. Hilary Duff. I've seen that one.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Maybe it is that one. Maybe I wrote it down wrong. Interesting. The Katrina and the Wave song would make sense for that one. It's kind of like an upbeat, feel movie where she learns to sing or she, she knows how to sing, but she learns to let herself sing. So that's your guess walking on sunshine. I think I'm going to have to depart from my, my one thing I'm doing. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:37:37 no, you know what? I'm going to say it has both. That's incorrect okay uh i'm david i'm gonna guess walking on sunshine that is the correct answer i'm sorry dylan that's okay you figured out the pattern ben david figured out the pattern and he's figured out the pattern, and he's done it again. He is our champion once again. Congratulations, Ben David. Can you join us again next Sunday at an earlier time?
Starting point is 00:38:16 But we'll talk about that later. Yes. Yeah, I'm 90% sure I can do it, and I would love to. And I'm sorry for trying to host the show and steer us away from 9-11 apology accepted you're welcome to come back and you know give us another you know movie that nobody will respond to.
Starting point is 00:38:45 Nobody will like, Oh, what was your answer this time? Oh, Jack's back. I really am going to watch Jack's back. Cause I, I don't think I've ever seen it. Yeah. I thought it was a Jack the Ripper thing. It is. Yeah. Someone is copying the Jack the Ripper killers in LA and the movies Oh, I see. And the movie's about whodunit. Right, right. When you described it, I was getting caught up on the, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:11 Jack coming back or whatever, because that's a different Jack than Jack the Ripper, right? Well, it's about Jack the Ripper, and the hook is that Jack's back. You know, it's not what I would have titled it, but I'm not going to judge Rowdy Harrington. Well, also the poster was just, you know, just a picture of his back. He's had his back to the camera and it was just, that seemed a little silly. It didn't seem like a very interesting subject for a movie, just a guy's back, the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Yeah. They have an Ultron robot on one of the rides and one of the attractions in the new uh you know california adventure avengers campus and i swear the voice is not uh james fader it always bugs me when they can't even get james fader to say a couple lines for an amusement park ride but uh ben david gravinsky that being said we look forward to seeing you again next week and uh we talked a lot about happily at the top of the show and i've been ending every show by saying the last line of a movie and you know i've just been picking you know random movies with weird last lines
Starting point is 00:40:25 but to you as the director of happily do you you know offhand what the last line of the movie is right oh yeah of course i mean well yeah i mean you know some directors you know you ask them that they have no idea because you know they they're on to the next obsession or whatever but uh what's the last line at happily uh i mainly know it because when i wrote the script uh before anyone read it i'm like a lot of people are gonna hate this ending but that abused me and i was correct but the last line is uh we need new friends we need new friends all right right. I'm going to close with that today and everyone's going to know what it's from happily available where you get your, uh, movies now. Matt Belknap. Yeah. Uh,
Starting point is 00:41:20 talk a little bit about misfit toys if you don't mind. Yeah, absolutely. Actually I was just thinking the same thing. Misfit Toys is a comedy podcast collective that this podcast is a part of. Douglas Movies is part of it. Never Not Funny is part of it. No Fun with Jen Kirkman is part of it. The Tig Notaro and Cheryl Hines podcast about documentaries is part of it. And a lot of other great shows.
Starting point is 00:41:46 It's just a bunch of friends in comedy who all have podcasts sharing each other's airspace a little bit to promote each other. Right. Yeah. I'm psyched to get Tig and Cheryl Hines on this show. When are you going to set that up? Yeah. You know, we just, I think we when you're gonna set that up yeah you know we we just i think we could we could set that up uh i hope so i mean you know they'll tig is always you know
Starting point is 00:42:13 she's been on this show a few times yeah it's just pretty not into uh movie trivia or you know anything that i'm talking about so right i remember that she's a little distracted and uninterested but i think cheryl hines would be an awesome guest and i'm yeah i'm already i'm already pretty friendly with her but i i just have never asked her because i just i feel like it's you know she was just on never not funny also to promote the podcast and she was great so uh i say what's the what's their movie documentary podcast called yeah as as a i'm a terrible uh curator of this misfit toys thing because i'm blanking on the name of it but let me look at it let's think of a good uh what's a good name for a documentary podcast you come up with it and i'll tell you if it's okay uh that's tough one i got a
Starting point is 00:43:01 good one yeah okay you could have a podcast called Doc Jocks, and it's just a bunch of, like, athletes reviewing documentaries. Oh, I like that. Oh, yeah, like they watch every 30 on 30 or whatever those are called, 30 for 30. Or stuff about, like, really nuanced subject matter. But either way. It would be fun to also maybe just get some athletes to watch some, you know,
Starting point is 00:43:24 rom-coms and then talk about it you know you know try to get them to open up a little bit yeah you know like gronk watches baby boom that'll lead to gronk spending 20 minutes missing Harold Ramis. Oh, Harold Ramis is great. So Matt Belknap, is that, that, that comprises your plug? Just tell it, talking about all the misfit toy shows. Yeah. Check out, you know, it's, it's still, we're still in the early stages of putting this thing together.
Starting point is 00:43:59 We saw our website is not up yet. It's just, it basically just listened to these great shows. It's called true story, Tegan, Cheryl, I'm sorry tig and cheryl true story is the documentary podcast but uh yeah just just keep an eye out for misfit toys shows when you're perusing uh apple podcasts or wherever you get podcasts yeah there's lots of lots of good ones like he said you know todd glass and jade kirkman um and of course, Never Not Funny with Matt Belknap. Thank you for being here as both producer and guest today, Matt. Thanks for having me. Always a pleasure.
Starting point is 00:44:33 And first time guest Dylan Galula. I hope you had a good time here today or where you are today. She left. She just left. I think it sounded like you just bailed. Like you just walked out on us. Anything to plug? Well, as I said at the top, no, I would guess I would just plug like if you Google, like if you like go to YouTube and type in like America's got talent, golden buzzer, like a little kid being good at singing is really funny.
Starting point is 00:45:07 I love that. Yeah. That kid on there was wild. Whenever they're interviewing the talent before they sing and they're talking to them for a long time, or before whatever their talent is, it's a guessing game. Is this going to be wildly awful, which doesn't happen as much anymore or is this going to be like some incredible thing that just is so unexpected and what was that little
Starting point is 00:45:34 girl singing it was like opera or something right oh yeah that little girl yeah basically any talented child makes me laugh so hard it's really funny when kids are really good at singing or like good at anything yeah it's just uh it's one of the staples of that show is bringing out you know kids that are ready for all this shit and then they just are so it's crazy how talented they are then you meet their stage parents that are clearly you know making them sing 24 hours a day i was so excited that the girl that just won the Scripps Spelling Bee, 14-year-old girl, first black girl to win, maybe ever, but certainly
Starting point is 00:46:12 in a while, because usually it's other groups that win that thing. She's also got already broken records in basketball, so she's an excellent athlete and can spell like a mother grabber. That's very impressive. broken records in basketball. So she's an excellent athlete and can spell like a mother grabber. So that's very
Starting point is 00:46:27 impressive. I'm very impressed by her and very happy for her. Well, Dylan, you've got to come back when you have inevitably another show or movie to talk about and promote. We'd love to have you back
Starting point is 00:46:43 again. I would love to do that. Yeah. And, you know, we'd love to have you back again. I would love to do that. Yeah. And, you know, tell your brother to get more excited and, you know, return a text. I think we might be estranged. Oh, no. This might be the bridge. Like, he might see this text from you and go,
Starting point is 00:46:59 oh, man, I guess I really got to reach out to her. What does he do? He runs political campaigns in chicago so he's busy like doing things that really matter and i'm like why don't you care about the entertainment industry yeah well tell him i'm gonna be at uh you know the zany's in chicago on what date am i gonna be there i really i'm gonna be there soon and uh i just don't know the date offhand. I'm going to look it up. Monday, September 13th. I'll be at Zany's in Chicago. I'll put, do I put Galula on the guest list?
Starting point is 00:47:38 You're it. That's great. I will do that. And, uh, I don't have anything else specific to plug. I'll say, go to, uh, Doug loves movies.com. Especially if you don't like any of the places where you get podcasts, because we provide a streaming player for both wide world of Doug's and Douglas movies. So the latest episode is always there. If you just want to listen to it that way.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Thank you once again to the dearly departed Chris Gethard. Thanks for almost being here. And thanks for genuinely being here, Matt Belknap and Dylan Galula and Ben David Grabinski, who will be back again for his
Starting point is 00:48:24 third appearance. Get it right, Doug. His, who will be back again for his third appearance. Get it right, Doug. His third appearance will be next week. I'm just happy to be here. As always, we need new friends. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Eyes of gold, his viewing prowess makes him cocky. There's no room in his heart for you.
Starting point is 00:48:47 Cause Doug loves movies.
