Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as a pop or kernels in his teeth. They're still not one that he won't see. Because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug and I love scary movies. This is Doug loves movies recording on sunday october 13th
Starting point is 00:00:28 my lucky day, uh 2025 and 25 holy crap I'm ready. I went into some sort of uh time warp, uh Space and time issue. It's now oct 13th, 2025. My guests today are directors Michael Felker and Greg Jarden and Comedian Matt O'Brien. Hello everybody. Hello. Hello. Hi
Starting point is 00:00:58 Let's meet them individually alphabetically by First name if I can pull this up. He is the writer director and editor of It's what's inside currently on Netflix Greg Jordan, welcome to the show. Hey Doug. Thanks for having me very excited to be here Could you tell us about your your movie? Sure. Yeah, it's what's Inside is a sci-fi thriller with jokes. Some people consider it horror.
Starting point is 00:01:31 I don't, but that's cool with me if you do. It's basically about eight old friends who get together for a reunion in a house over the course of one night because one of them is about to get married. And then a strange friend shows up and he brings with him a suitcase suggesting that there's something in it that they can use to play a game. The suitcase is a body swap machine.
Starting point is 00:01:56 They start to play this game and then basically all hell breaks loose. Old grudges are reignited, old flames are reignited and stuff gets weird. That's fun. I Love it Can't wait to see it. Like I said, it's on on Netflix So I don't have any excuses because I do have I have the Netflix It's been on there for a few days now
Starting point is 00:02:24 Yeah, it's been out there for a week. Yeah, we just had our release. We shot it in 2022. Got picked up by Netflix at Sundance this year and kind of been waiting all year for it to come out. So it's yes, it's a it's out now. Did you think they held the release of it specifically to have a you know, quote-unquote scary movie for October? Yeah. Yeah for sure. I mean that was the intense It was weird because like it got into the midnight section at Sundance And I think on account of that everyone assumed that it was a horror movie It is lit very much like a horror movie like we we took a lot of um
Starting point is 00:03:01 lit very much like a horror movie. Like we we took a lot of like visual cues from like Suspiria, Giallo films. So it does have that look visually. But there's been this whole discussion about is it horror, is it not? But yeah, nonetheless, yes, they wanted to hold off until October for that reason.
Starting point is 00:03:20 And it's kind of like, you know, one of my favorite types of horror movie. It's the one that like people argue about whether or not it's a horror movie, you know, because it's like, well, I mean, obviously certain things are scary to different people, but you know, there's definitely tone and things like that, that, uh, you know, that come into play and, uh, you know, like people love their, I can't stop hearing the argument of whether or not Jaws is a horror movie. Yeah, it is. Well, it's pretty damn scary.
Starting point is 00:03:54 It's scared people into thinking that the oceans were out to get us and that they were entirely unsafe. Absolutely. And it does have great scares as well. Jaws, that is. Yeah. Yeah, it's got it's got some great jump moments, jump scares. But I mean, I just said your movie to me sounds like it just sounds like a ramped up breakfast club,
Starting point is 00:04:23 like a more intense breakfast club. Yeah, I can see that. Yeah. At night. I was initially pitching it as Freaky Friday meets the big chill by way of Black Mirror. But and it's very like it's a very anxiety inducing movie. It's very fast paced, which I think in and of itself
Starting point is 00:04:46 some people consider horrific just because of the pacing and the anxiety. Yeah, so people are terrified by the Saturday Night Live movie because it's just so frenetic. It looks frenetic, yeah, I'm dying to see it for that exact reason. It's just non-stop, like it is the most fast-paced movie I think I've ever seen. It's just absolutely relentless. And whether or not you find that a good way to tell that particular story is up to the individual. But it's wild how, because I saw it late at night,
Starting point is 00:05:22 and I was like, I can't, it's fun that I'm seeing this at the time Saturday Night Live comes on, but it's also like, you know, am I going to be able to stay awake? And I was just like 90 minutes later, I was just like, oh, OK, well, that was I was certainly alert to that entire thing. Oh, that's well, that's yeah. I mean, that sounds like a good feeling to have after. Yeah, I guess that's a positive review. So I just have too many opinions about, you know, whenever they make a movie where you think you know a lot about what their subject is and then you sit there going, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:56 You know, like it starts to be like, how many liberties are they going to take? Just just to try to, you know, keep this movie dramatic. You know, Sure, sure. At least in your world, in what's inside, like I can't pick at it from any kind of point of view of having known anything prior to going into it. Although I do know a couple of the actors that are in it. There's the actress from the people I know from the first season of White Lotus. Yeah. Brittany O'Grady, is that her first season of White Lotus. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Brittany O'Grady, is that her name? Yes. Yes. Yes. And a favorite movie of mine, speaking of film festivals that I saw last year, was the one directed by a dude that's in this movie, James, how do you say his last name? Morasini? Yes, exactly. Yeah, he's his his
Starting point is 00:06:47 directorial debut. I saw it last year. And what and what is it called? I love my dad. That's it. I just want to call it like call me daddy or something way worse than I love my dad. Yeah, I love my dad. Yeah. Yeah. Like I said, he wrote directed stars in it.
Starting point is 00:07:05 It's a, yeah, you know, and it's it's a horror movie. That's not, you know, treated like it's a horror movie. Yeah, true. It's very anxiety inducing, very sort of like cringe inducing, but in like a fun way. Yeah, it's great. I saw that movie came out right when we were in the middle of casting. I saw him in it and I was like, oh, I got to get this guy and I slid into his DMS and the rest. That's nice.
Starting point is 00:07:30 That's very cool. All right. Speaking of a fringy and awesome things are my next strong segue is a comedian and returning champion. It's Matt O'Brien. Hey, Matt. Hi, my man. When you did that segue, I was like, please don't be me.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Don't you have already figured out that by alphabetical by first name, you would be second had no idea what's alphabetical mean. I don't know. They don't have that in Canada. Also, we don't, we don't have the alphabet in Canada. It's completely different. It's a backwards and upside down. I actually, speaking of that SNL movie, I auditioned to be young Dan Aykroyd in that.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And I think I did a pretty damn good job. That's all I'm saying. I can see you in that role, especially you got the mustache for it. That's what I said. I was like, I, and they're like, we would appreciate a Canadian because he's Canadian, right? so I'm like, oh my god, I got this and The guy that booked it has the same last name as me too. So I that's I'm getting close Yeah, I think he's a name though Dylan O'Brien
Starting point is 00:08:36 I know the biggest names in that fresh-faced cast Wow. Thanks for rubbing it in That's how you that's how you go. That's why I lost the part. Not nothing to do with your talent. That's right. There we go. Now we're back. It's all about some real, some jerk that still thinks he's so good that he can just take roles from other actors.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Anyone who books stuff over me is a jerk. You're right. Absolutely. You went to Europe in Greece with the wife I did yeah I was gone for three weeks. It was exhausting, but we saw everything we went a parrot We went to France Italy in Greece and then ended up in London England not the one in Canada And it was it was great. I'm still very jet-lagged and I've been waking up at 4 a.m. Every day for a week But but you also while you're on the trip you probably thinking I'm a champion on Douglas movies
Starting point is 00:09:29 I can't wait to get back to the state. Yeah, I was telling everyone in every language I learned it in a French Italian in Greece, and I think they really appreciated it. I think they really liked it Well, I do a more cinema Okay, so Thanks for coming back and let me introduce our third guest who also this is exciting that we have two Multi hyphenate movie makers Joining us at the same time with movies currently available things will be different is the name of the movie and it is
Starting point is 00:10:05 You can get it in those places where you can rent on TV like Apple Apple TV and Prime and His name is Michael Felker. Hello, Michael Has it go man. It's going good Was I right about that that you you wrote and edited as well as directing. Yeah, I know you kind of when you make a movie for basically nothing, you kind of have to do it all while you like it or not. Which which of those jobs would you rather
Starting point is 00:10:37 hand off to somebody else if you if you could afford it? Probably producing. It's still the only thing where I stubbed by toe everywhere I go being like, wait, which documents did we get? Who did we talk to? And I have to have like two people tell me what's going on. Yeah, that one. I don't know about that one. Were you were you technically a producer on it's what's inside, Greg? No, no, you can leave it to professionals or others rather
Starting point is 00:11:05 Yeah, you dodged a bullet Greg you dodged a bullet Well, you know, this is your first film but you as an editor you've You've worked on a several of the Benson and Moorhead films Oh, yeah been their editor since like fresh out of film school, like 10, 15 years ago. So all I know is weird, twisty cosmic horror movies and editing to them.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Well, tell us about this one. Yeah. So things will be different is about a brother and sister who are trying to evade the cops after a close call robbery. They go and hide out in a farmhouse that's also a time traveling safe house. So they wait out there for a couple of weeks until the cops go away in their time. But when they try to go back, they can't
Starting point is 00:11:58 because the people who own the house have trapped them there. And hijinks ensue, Lots of old wounds are ripped open between a brother and sister already having a frayed relationship and weird timey wimey stuff happens, so to speak. So crazy, crazy time. Wow. That sounds awesome. Yeah, man. I between between that and it's what's inside. There's some pretty freaking cool movies out there, man. Hijinks ensue indeed. Exactly. Between between that and it's what's inside. There's some pretty freaking cool movies out there man. Hi Jinx and Sue indeed
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yeah, well you're both both of the film sounds Intense enough that I the word hijinks. I don't know if that applies but I'm glad you have fun with it. It's like when Kevin Smith calls his movies flicks. I'm just like oh, I don't like I think that's too demeaning of your own work. I Would I would say there's definitely some hijinks in this flick and I because I have a ton during my own movie Even if people are looking around being like what the hell's going on. It's real fun for me, man Well, that's good
Starting point is 00:13:01 And I can't wait to see both of these movies and then talk about them with future guests on the show or maybe talk to you about the next time you appear because As happens on this show the winner is invited to come back at the soonest possible date Sometimes the winner runs off to Europe to study Wow And then come back three four four weeks later. **JASON LENGSTORF** Oh, that's smart. All right. Ready? **JASON LENGSTORF** All I did was watch movies in Europe. That's all I did. So, heads up. **JASON LENGSTORF** But before we play some games today, I would like each of you to recommend a movie and since it's you know, Halloween months I'd like it to be a scary movie. Maybe even a decent companion movie to
Starting point is 00:13:53 your own films Except for you mad, of course but Since Matt you've been on a show a couple times. You knew this question was coming. So let's say let's go to you first please recommend A scary motion picture. I didn't know I was gonna scare. I had one lined up I was gonna say it wasn't scary what you were gonna say No, because I watched I watched a bunch on the plane. I watched the bike riders. I liked it. I had a fun time
Starting point is 00:14:19 Yeah, I had a fun time. It was done. It was a good airplane movie. Jodie comers. So good in it Yeah at first i'm like she she might be annoying and she's like kind of Wisconsin. Yeah. Hockey in it. But it was I really nails it. It's such an entertaining character. Parts of it are scary. The fighting is scary. You could say it's a scary movie.
Starting point is 00:14:38 I got scared a couple of times. I'm tension in there. Yeah. Tom Hardy's face freaks me out whenever it's not covered by a mask or I know why let helmet Half the time he's got a mask on it's so weird Yeah, he always looks like he's very sick like he has like a stomach flu or something. He has a very like crunchy face I like it, but it's a bit scary Alright, let's get serious about horror for a second All right, let's get serious about horror for a second.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Okay. Give us a scary movie. Scary movie. I watch this one every year. I watch The Cabin in the Woods every year. I really like it. I mean, yeah, I think it's fun and it's stupid. I remember the first time I saw it, I was like, I'm not expecting that ending.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And that's the one. That's probably been recommended 8,000 times on this show. I'm sure it's so funny. It's got such a good ending that it's like, uh, you know, even though it's been around forever and everyone should have seen it right now, you're going to spoil it for those who haven't like, it's still, it's still, if you put it on now, if you didn't pay attention to any of the talk about it over the years, you just put it on
Starting point is 00:15:48 I think you'd be pretty entertained. It certainly shows that how the future of Chris Hemsworth is a Funny actor. Yeah, because he's really funny and true Okay, Greg, what do you got for us? I guess I'll go with killing of a sacred deer. Oh, as a that I love. Yeah, love the I mean, just, you know, love everything about it. I love and you don't even really get to the like the plot reveals itself as you watch and you don't even necessarily understand why you're so unnerved.
Starting point is 00:16:28 And it feels very Kubrickian to me, which is always a good thing. Yeah, yeah, I could see I could definitely see the Kubrick thing there and. You know, but say goodbye to movies by your ghost that don't have Emma Stone in them. Yeah, that's OK. I'm OK with that. I mean, he's really found his news, but not until after this one, because this was the last movie before he just started working with her all the time. Nicole Kidman is in this one and Colin Farrell, too. Yeah. And breakout breakout.
Starting point is 00:17:05 I don't know if there's the breakout, but a breakout role for Barry Keoghan, for sure. It was definitely like the moment where you're like, oh, this guy's going to be creepy in lots of movies. He is so good at it. It's ridiculous. Incredible. Yeah. Just incredible. Bill Camp shows up briefly. Yeah, just yeah. Highly recommend. Yeah, just incredible. Bill Camp shows up briefly. Yeah, just yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Highly recommend. Yeah, it is definitely on the weirder end of the Yorgo Spectrum, which is my cup of tea personally. So definitely in there with like the lobster and dog tooth for sure. Yeah, no, I would argue as a friend of mine all the time about The Lobster because he was convinced that it was just a laugh out loud comedy. And I was like, there's parts that are kind of funny and satirical. But if you think it's laugh out loud funny, then you know, that's you might be a list or something. Yeah, I mean, it has such a complex tone, the lobster.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Like it is funny, but it's tragic. And, you know, without getting spoilers, like it has a very provocative ending. I mean, the whole thing just makes you think. But yeah, it's it's it's almost unclassifiable. Which I would kill a mistake or dear. I mean, I would definitely say it's a horror thriller, but it does skew not quite as unclassifiable as the lobster. But I do like movies that are hard to put in a box.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Yeah, it was definitely, you know, it wasn't just I'll just make another lobster ask. It's very different from the lobster in a lot of ways. But the main thing with that guy is that, you know, huge potential to be bummed out by something that happens. Yes, very true. Very true. Even though it's new and what's the one that's out that just came out? It's got the it's got happiness in the title. Kinds of kindness. Yes. Have you seen that one?
Starting point is 00:19:01 Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Because it's that's an undertaking because it's not only yeah. Okay, because it's, that's an undertaking, because it's not only it's long, but it's also anthology style. It's like three stories over the course of almost three hours. Yeah, it's a wild one. It's a big swing. And yeah, it does. Yeah, it does feel different than the rest of the stuff. I guess, right. Solely based on the fact that it does have that anthology thing going for it. Yeah. Is it all three of the stories or just a one or two? Uh, all three.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yeah. I think I want to say, yeah. Uh, yeah, basically everyone is in. Shit. I might be getting there wrong. Yeah, that's okay. But basically everyone is in shit. I might be getting there wrong. Yeah, that's okay But basically everyone is in all three sort of like, you know, like traveling theater company style, right? Right? Yeah No, he's definitely got his like like how Orson Welles had his like Mercury's players or whatever they were called
Starting point is 00:20:00 Yeah, totally Okay, so Michael You've really had some time to think about. Yeah, it is for the scary movie. So these two movies so far, people are going to really be scared and weirded out. So what do you have for a triple bill? What's funny is that I also came in with a non scary movie.
Starting point is 00:20:20 So I pulled up my list of like horror movies that I love. And I could be easily in a box with like some safe choices because I was on a plane yesterday watching the Sixth Sense for like the 10,000th time, which always rules. But I'll go with one that speaking of Kubrickian, I will go with Eyes Wide Shut, which is weird and freaks me out every time. It's an ultimate it's my favorite movie to get scared while also getting stoned too, because it is just an absolute like wild ride
Starting point is 00:20:52 where I have no idea what's going on and the atmosphere and dread is just so thick that you can't help but be like stuck to your couch watching the movie. So genuinely love that one. And it's also just a scary, sexy thriller. Well, it captures more so than almost any movie ever. Just the feeling of being like in a dream, like you feel like you're the Tom Cruise.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Oh, yeah. But it's happening in your dreams because it's everything doesn't feel quite real, but then it's also too real at the same time. Oh, yeah, totally. It's like a weird nightmare. Like every time I watch it, you're just kind of like, I think I get the vibe of this movie. And then all of a sudden it like takes two turns or so incredibly weird. And then you can't even get a normal scene where he's walking down the sidewalk without it feeling like it's on a soundstage.
Starting point is 00:21:41 It's got like a projected background, like nothing has like a grounded sense to it. So I get scared shitless with that movie in a very strange way. I mean, if anybody was going to be able to fake the moon landing, it was Stanley Kubrick because holy crap, he really, he really does. You know, and obviously 2001 Space Odyssey was like enough of a calling card for, you know, being able to fake the moon landing. But yeah, I mean, my dad's scariest movie of all time was 2001 Space Odyssey, and his name is also Doug. So you guys would totally, totally have the same headspace of scary movies just because you're called Doug. Yeah. All those dogs do think alike. But actually, I have like a follow up question
Starting point is 00:22:33 because he's been noticing this in general as a guy named Doug. And maybe you can answer me this specifically. He watches a lot of movies and he tries to look out for any characters named Doug. Is there a cool main character named Doug in movies in general? Well, I don't know if he's cool, but I love him. And that's the the the lead character in the movie Goon. Oh, man. Oh, yeah. It's a good name is Doug. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:00 He's never seen that movie. And so I've been trying to scour every movie where they're like is a cool Doug and other strange brew Strange brew. Oh man and Doug Like my dad's watching the wrong movies Is he cool no It's old SC TV characters the Bob and Doug It's usually characters that have complete goof and in the case of Goon, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:26 Sean William Scott plays the character and he's so good in it. But he's, you know, he's like shy, but then a real terror. You know, he can beat up the other players out on the ice. And that's why it's called Goon. But also Doug is just funny that his name is Doug, because, you know, usually don't think of Doug as being somebody you'd be scared to get faced by. No one calls like a secret phone in a room and asks for Doug to come out of retirement.
Starting point is 00:23:56 The only one I found specifically is Ben Affleck's main character in the town is named Doug. And I was like, all right, all right. That's a guy. He like he robs banks and shit. He's pretty cool. But most of the time, my dad hears Doug in a movie and then he rolls his eyes because he's like, it's just the main. It's just the side character who gets both of all the time. Yeah, it's always just a goof, you know, like people like
Starting point is 00:24:19 they set up the character with somebody going, oh, here comes Doug. And then they roll their eyes. Well, I'm glad another Doug can relate for sure I have a whole podcast about it called wide world of Doug's and so I've discussed it at length in you know instead of going into therapy so eyes wide shut cabin in the woods and killing of Deer. Those are three classic movies that will certainly creep you out and maybe even scare you a little bit. There it's that's the other weird thing about Eyes Wide Shut is it goes for
Starting point is 00:24:55 jump scares. It's not really a horror movie, but it goes for it. Oh yeah. Like a guy standing like down the block looking at Tom Cruise is like genuinely scares the shit out of me. Yeah. All right. Well, thank you for these recommendations and we got to take a commercial break. We'll be right back after this. This episode is brought to you in part by Smalls. Cat food has been the same forever. Starting point is 00:29:25 They also offer an optional paid product found plus back to the show. We are back. And the first game we're going to play today is something that I came up with called squeal quills. Squeal quills. Oh,'ll pull. Oh, yeah. I'll name a movie in the horror in a horror film franchise. And then you have to tell me if that particular movie in the series had a subtitle or not, if it was just, you know, a number
Starting point is 00:30:01 and then nothing else or if there were more words. And if if if it turns out that you guess that something has a subtitle and it does, then you can also get extra point if you can say the actual subtitle. But first you have to say whether or not it has a subtitle. We'll go Greg and then Matt and then Michael and uh it's cool for one of you. I mean it's already racing because I thought you said squeak will for a second so I thought it was like a chipmunks thing. Yeah I thought it was pigs. I thought it was gonna be pigs. I was having fun with yeah exactly I was having fun with the uh
Starting point is 00:30:43 the squeak will concept but went with squeal cool because of all the squealing that occurs in these, uh, horror film franchises. Awesome. Okay. So Greg, uh, you're up first, uh, Friday the 13th, part three, did it have a subtitle or no subtitle? It does. It does. Friday the 13th, part three has a subtitle or no subtitle? Oh it does it does. Friday the 13th part 3 has a subtitle? Oh man I know 5 does wait wait wait let me think. You came out so fast. I'm gonna say yes. I'm gonna say yes. Yeah gut was yes. What do you think it would be if it did have one? Oh, God. Well, the second one would probably be something about Jason.
Starting point is 00:31:32 That was, uh, oh gosh, I don't know. I don't know. Well, it doesn't matter because it doesn't have a subchannel. It should. In Europe, it does. I think Matt can back me up on that. I did see it everywhere. It was everywhere. Does part five have a subtitle? I don't have all that information. I wouldn't be surprised if it did because I think what happened with Friday the 13th is around the fourth part. They started messing with subtitles Oh, yeah, the first three are just the number, you know two and three Okay, so we go to Matt and the film doesn't have a subtitle or no
Starting point is 00:32:17 the exorcist three Okay Yes, it does absolutely Okay. Yes, it does. Absolutely. It doesn't. Damn it all to hell, man. You know, Exorcist 2 famously does because that was the heretic. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Which is, you know, so much fun to quote. When you're not saying electric boogaloo, you're saying the heretic. The two greatest. I was waiting for Reagan to be brought out. to quote. When you're not saying electric boogaloo, you're saying the heretic, the two greatest. I was waiting for breaking to be brought out. Yeah. It doesn't fall under the theme this month, unfortunately. But I'm getting excited about doing squeal quills and that's movies with pigs that have a sequel. The research will be tough. I think it's one. I think it's one. I think it's just that it's just
Starting point is 00:33:05 In the city, man You know classifies it was horrible if you sure right up there with my law notice, okay Michael Here's your chance to get on the board Does poltergeist to have a subtitle or no? Oh, man, why am I blanking? This is going to be a race for one point between all three of us. I'm going to just because of the alternate,
Starting point is 00:33:36 I'm going to go against the grain, say no, it doesn't. It doesn't have a subtitle. Yeah, no subtitle. I'm afraid that Poltergeist 1986 does have a subtitle. Yeah, no subtitle. I'm afraid that Poltergeist 1986 does have a subtitle. Unbelievable. Oh, man. Yeah. Zero across the board. This is hard. It's called the other side. Oh, you know what? I wouldn't I would have just said electric boogaloo, even if I did.
Starting point is 00:33:59 So we're OK. All right. Oh, you know, I'll probably hear from people about this one, because even in my head, when I was looking it all up, I was like, Poltergeist 2 was just Poltergeist 2. I didn't think it had a subtitle. And then some places on the internet, it doesn't list the subtitle. Other places, it does say Poltergeist 2 the other side.
Starting point is 00:34:19 So I'm taking it as official. But I don't know. There's something spooky going on there. The internet is spooking us all subtitles here and there. All right, Greg, we're back to you. Please tell me if hell raiser three had a subtitle or not. No, it did not. This game is so stupid.
Starting point is 00:34:52 It did have a. It did. It was called Hellraiser 3 Hell on Earth. Oh, man. Yeah. You know, it's just it's so fun to repeat a word over a title. I was hoping you'd give me a different franchise, but OK. Yeah. You know, it's just so fun to repeat a word over again in a title. I was hoping you'd give me a different franchise, but okay. Okay. All right. Matt? Yeah. I can't wait. Halloween five.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Come on. Like, it, okay. It has to. It has to. Because people don't know what's happening. So you got to give them something. At five, it does. I don't care if it's wrong, it does. **Sebastian Levenson** It does have a sub title. And what do you think it is? See if you guess it right, you get another point. **Jason Lennon** Oh, God. Back in the habit. That's what it is. You don't want to do a real guess? Well, it's probably like Michael Rises or it's going to be like five. Wait, what happened
Starting point is 00:36:00 in four? Three? One of them had a witch. Wait. Five is a new beginning. Let's say that. **JASON LENGSTORF** I think if they used that, it would have happened a little earlier. You never know when they're gonna have to, you know, reset. But in this case, it was the revenge of Michael Myers. **JASON LENGSTORF. It took him five to get revenge. Well you know, because they, you know, four is when they probably finally really kill him and then he's that really makes him bad.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Yeah, really out for blood. All right. Michael, here's your chance to tie things up with Matt. All right. Psycho three from 1986. Psycho three. I believe it does. Yes, I'll say it does.
Starting point is 00:36:52 It does not. Damn. Awesome. Here we go, guys. I just went up against two guys who direct spooky movies and Edit them as well and they're gonna Minds are gonna be like I want to I want to revisit the part of the show where I said my movie is not a horror movie, so I feel like not I
Starting point is 00:37:19 Should not be held accountable by horror fans for not knowing these these uh not be held accountable by horror fans for not knowing these subtitles. Every interview I've done, I've now said horror movie adjacent, so I feel like I've screwed myself over to this point. Well, it's just also the timing. Companies involved with putting the movie out must it must feel like it's got enough enough of a scare factor to consider to be released for October yeah I just Nelson never worked on a movie with a subtitle so I feel like I'm at a disadvantage to do the research to find out which ones have been taken already
Starting point is 00:38:00 exactly it's crazy the titles in general really bug me. And that's what I like about both of your films have titles that are like you look it up. There wasn't a previous movie with that title. Like once a movie's been made with a title, that title should be dead. You know, like no one else can use it unless it's a sequel or something, you know. Yeah, I agree. Good idea. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Because it's just gotten so complicated now Like even if a movie is just somebody's first name you look it up on the internet and there's you know Three or four movies have been made uh with that name and it's just uh I don't get it because also That's one of the greatest parts of making a movie. I feel is being able to name it like give it an interesting name that That applies to the you know yeah imagine if you were imagine if you were named Michael Clayton at birth you couldn't go online without that movie being there my dad's name is James
Starting point is 00:38:57 Bond so lucky he's everywhere on the internet. James Bond O'Brien. All right fellas, we're going to take another break. We're going to come back with the most important game of the day. And Matt's going to be in the pole position because you're so amazing at that last game. We'll be right back. Today's episode is brought to you in part by Shopify. When you think about businesses that are selling through the roof like Kodopaxi or Momofuku, sure you think about a weird name and a great product, a cool brand and brilliant marketing, but an often overlooked secret is actually the businesses behind the business making,
Starting point is 00:39:44 selling and for shoppers buying simple. For millions of businesses, that business is Shopify. Nobody does selling better than Shopify, home of the number one checkout on the planet. And the not so secret secret was ShopPay that boosts conversions up to 50%, meaning way less carts are abandoned and way more sales are going. So if you're into growing your business, your commerce platform better be ready to sell wherever your customers are scrolling or strolling. On the web, in your store, in their feed, and everywhere in between.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Businesses that sell more, sell on Shopify. Upgrade your business and get the same checkout that Momo Fuku and Koto Paxi use. Sign up for a $1 per month trial period at Shopify.com slash DLM, all lowercase. Go to Shopify.com slash DLM lowercase to upgrade your selling today. Shopify.com slash D L M lowercase to upgrade your selling today shopify.com slash D L M back
Starting point is 00:40:49 to the show. We are back and it is time to play our final and determining game of the day and it's something that I call weird algorithm. There is an algorithm you may have become familiar with working in this biz called the internet movie database and their star meter and it turns out that if you look up the cast or you know if you click on cast when looking at a movie on IMDB they will just list the cast in the order of you know billing but then you can click on a button and refine the order and change it to popularity. And then it'll give you the list of all the people in the movie or TV show.
Starting point is 00:41:53 But this is Douglas movies. Uh, they'll give you a list of all the people in the order of their current popularity, according to the weird algorithm that is IMDB and the people who use it and what they're searching for is basically what it comes down to and this is you know this is fresh this is you know as of today what I've written is I've taken for each film we we're going to play three rounds. Each one of you will get a chance to go first. But Matt gets to go first on the very first round.
Starting point is 00:42:32 And I'm going to tell you the name of a movie and I'll give you the top two build people in the movie. I'll give you those as well. But then you have to guess who you think might be in the top three from that film today Awesome, I was too when it came out and you can sort of discuss your answer what your what you're going with But you do have to lock in an answer and then the other players can give the same answer if they wish But you only get, you know, one time to say your answer.
Starting point is 00:43:10 And, but, you know, strategically maybe, or you're just convinced that the person is number one, because number one is worth three points, number two is worth two points, number three is worth one point. I think that explains it fairly well. Yeah. So, Matt, we'll start with you on this first round. And the film is Bram Stoker's Dracula from the director of Megalopolis. Have any of you seen Megalopolis? Oh, yeah, I saw it with the live participant element. Who do they hire to do that?
Starting point is 00:43:52 Is it supposed to be like an usher at the theater or something? I think they just it was so weird. I think they just grabbed some. I've either heard they hire an usher or they just pick someone who got there really early to do it. But either way, our guy was really late. So he just ran across the floor with the microphone, just yelling the question really quickly before Adam Driver, like because the whole scene is just like
Starting point is 00:44:17 somebody in the audience does a Q&A with Adam Driver on the screen. And he responds back to that person in the eyeline on the screen. And the guy just like wasn't there on time so Adam Driver wasn't looking at anybody the guy was just like oh no it was it was so distracting i loved it it's sound you sound like they got bill or Ted to do it Okay. So, but overall, Pro Megalopolis. I love a movie that my thing is I try to watch things that I would never have seen before, like things that I couldn't just find somewhere else. And there's nothing else like Megalopolis
Starting point is 00:44:58 out there. So it was genuinely entertaining for how wild it was. Okay. Yeah, I love it. I love it. It was genuinely entertaining for how wild it was. Okay. All right. I love it. I love it. All right, Matt, you haven't seen it yet? Not yet, but we'll see. I don't know if I have enough time.
Starting point is 00:45:15 So you may recall that the Dracula was played by Gary Oldman and that Winona Ryder would be officially second build. Yeah. And then lots of other actors in that one. So would you like to go with either of them or pull one of your own? Who I think is number one? You want to go for number one. That's the most points. There's no reason to go for number two. Okay. So it's like who's most popular right now from this movie? The cast of Ram Sarkis Dracula. The answer might surprise you.
Starting point is 00:45:52 I can't wait to be surprised. I'm going to say Keanu Reeves. Okay. That'd be my guess as well. That was actually my first thought, too. So I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm going to go with the slow horses train. I'm I just found out about slow horses like, oh, I might check that out. I found out there's like three seasons already. It's hard to get out for a while. I came super late into it, too.
Starting point is 00:46:33 I was like, oh, new show. And it's on season four. So I'm like, oh, great. But you've seen it all now. Not all of it. I've been going through it slowly, you know, like the title suggests. Just ride on a horse, go slow through it. And I've been enjoying it so far. I like a good like espionage, you know, thriller thing. So and Gary Oldman's fun in it.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Yeah. And it's like also like it sounds more daunting, but it's there. The seasons are like five episodes each. Yeah, exactly. You could kind of just take your time and go through it. Like there's not like a rush for me on TV If it's like pretty good, I'll just I'll savor it. So slow horses a savoring show for me right now. All right, cool All right. So you're going Gary Oldman. Yeah, and Matt and Greg both went with Keanu Reeves Wait, sorry. This is according to IMDB star meter Yeah, basically
Starting point is 00:47:23 Okay, I might go one on a rider then solely because she was just a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Oh, man. Good. Damn it. That's right, too. Wow. You got to think about other movies.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Oh, but I feel like you're going to say that Timothy Chalamet was actually in Dracula as a baby. Yeah, I mean, there can be a surprising twist like that, but or maybe like Coppola starred in a cameo and he's going popular now because of Megalopolis. Wow. That could be another piece of logic that you might adhere to this. I'll stick. I'll stick with Gary Oldman, but that's where my brain's at now.
Starting point is 00:48:04 OK, so Michael says Gary Oldman, but that's where my brain's at now. Okay, so Michael says Gary Oldman. And Matt, which what did you end up on? I'm standing my ground on Reeves. Keanu Reeves. And Greg, you want Winona? Yeah, we'll go Winona forever. Okay, well, I'm going to start at number six just for fun and tell you that that was The great Carrie Ellis. Oh, yeah, they've been number six The princesses grooms brides groom
Starting point is 00:48:37 Number five is the great Anthony Hopkins Number four bad news for Matt Hopkins. Number four, bad news for Matt Keanu. Damn it all. Yeah. Brutal. Yeah, it's just not as hot today as when on a rider who's in third. Oh. So that's worth one point for Greg. And then number two is Gary Oldman.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Yeah, so horses. So two points for Michael and then number one, also for Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice reasons. Monica Bellucci. Oh, my God. Oh, wow. Yeah. Tricky. Now you guys are figuring out how this work. I love this game so much. OK, so now we'll go to round two and Greg gets to go first on this one and then Michael and then Matt and
Starting point is 00:49:31 the film Shot in Santa Cruz where I just was the Lost Boys Star Jason Patrick and Corey Haim the and Corey Haim the late Corey Haim Greg what are your thoughts? Well my mind goes straight to Kiefer Sutherland I'm China as well as all of our money. Yeah. Yeah now now I'm trying to think of the other deep
Starting point is 00:50:02 So we got Jamie Gertz, we got Alex Winter in there. Yeah. But I feel like Kiefer would be over Alex Winter, I think. I'm talking about solely based on IMDB star meter. Gosh, who else? Diane Weiss is in that movie, I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Yeah. But what about the saxophone guy? Yeah. Saxophone guy. Famous is he listed on IMDb is set. Number two on the star meter. I was there. I went down to the boardwalk and couldn't find him anywhere. couldn't find him anywhere. Okay, I'm going key for the only reason I'm doubting myself is because you just pulled out Monica Bellucci from Dracula, which makes me think that there's like, I know there's got to be some sort of twist.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Yeah, but I'll stick with Kiefer. All right, Michael, who do you think it is? I'm wondering if like, because Corey Feldman's in it, right? So I wonder if he did something specific recently. Releasing his cult classic. What's it called? The birthday, I think that everybody says he's great in it. And they just showed it at a fantastic festival.
Starting point is 00:51:23 I didn't get to see it. But yeah, that's where my brain went, too. I think he's been it a fantastic. I didn't get to see it, but. Yeah, that's where my brain went to. I think he's been traveling a bunch. I might I'll go Corey Feldman. OK. Matt, I OK, I think I know this one. I am going to go Jason Patrick. Yeah. Oh, well, I do know I know something.
Starting point is 00:51:43 I know something. I know something he's in and it it's, wait, I don't want, how much do I say? Because can they change their answers? No, that's it. Everybody's locked in. They're locked. I know something. I'm Jason Patrick. Insider info. I love it. He's with me right now. And he's nudging me aggressively. What is it that you know? You can tell us. He's in a movie right now. Or one that I think it just came out.
Starting point is 00:52:08 Oh, really? It's a popular horror series. I haven't seen them. Okay. I feel like I have seen something, too. But I feel like we'd also think, you know, we'd be more clear on what it was if it was going to be that big to put him at number one. I bet Matt knows that Jason's dad invented IMDB or something. I bet he's just like, my boy's going number one. He ain't leaving.
Starting point is 00:52:37 You think too highly of me. Usually don't know anything. It's possible I still don't. So we'll find out. We'll find out. I'll start started number six Good old Cory Hain hmm, so it's nice people are still looking them up number five, maybe they're just typing Cory and
Starting point is 00:52:56 Sorry to say Jason Patrick, come on Yeah, whatever it is that he's doing right now. It's terrified of the terror fire movies Is he I don't think so. Oh wait now I need to know number four Also this sadly Corey Feldman Yeah, so it's not worth any points but number three is worth One point and that is Keither Sutherland. Nice. Number three. Wow. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:30 Yeah. Who said Keither? Was it? I said Kiefer. It was Greg, right? Yeah. Okay. Doug, are you saying Keith's pronounced Kiefer, but I may have said it. Yeah, I said wrong. See, sir, Keltverland.
Starting point is 00:53:53 All right. I was just excited that, you know, Greg's got a second point. Yeah. Yeah, this is a tight one because it's still anybody's game. Yeah, yeah, this is a tight one because it's still anybody's game But I am also excited to tell you that number two is Good old Jamie Gertz what? girl in the film he I believe people are looking up her name because it has come out recently that Like she's married into like one of the richest people in the world like she's crazy rich I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, You know and Jessica Alba's up there pretty high now too because she's you know, she's got her own company and everything
Starting point is 00:54:50 I know that you needed money to have an IMDb rating Just like what's Jamie Gertz in now, you know, yeah, he does act and stuff still occasionally I think but that's a good strategy is like hey, where are they now look ups? Like just constantly poking to see where they're at well, and you you all were very close to you someone even mentioned Diane we oh and And also you just saw been talking about the other things that have been happening with them and in her case She is in the Rosemary's baby prequel
Starting point is 00:55:29 is in the Rosemary's baby prequel that's on Paramount Plus. She plays the Ruth Gordon role and she's really good. I think she's getting a lot of attention because of how good she is on that show. She's my favorite aspect of that. Oh, that's awesome. Otherwise kind of unnecessary program because it's you know how prequels are. Oh, that's awesome. Otherwise kind of unnecessary program because it's, you know, how prequels are. Oh yeah. Especially with one question. Especially ones with subtitles.
Starting point is 00:55:52 Okay, so Greg has two points, Michael has two points. And this is the round where Michael gets to go first and the film is just an absolute classic, but another one people argue about if it's for or not, I think when horrific things happen, that pretty much makes it a horror film and it's called silence of the lamb. Oh man. Okay. So we got Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, but lots of other people were in that movie, of course, but also those two have gone gone on to, you know,
Starting point is 00:56:30 you know, people are always talking about them. So who do you think would prevail? My brain is trying to just go through the cast of like, is there like a side character actor that like blew up in the last 30 years? I mean, because I can only think of Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins right now at the movie. Well, which of those two do you think would finish higher on the list? Maybe be worth some points.
Starting point is 00:56:52 I would say Jodie Foster only because of the true detective love that's been happening in this year. And a lot of the buzz. So I'll go Jodie Foster. All right. So Michael says Jodie. What do you say, Matt? I gotta say Jodie Foster too, I don't know. It's like, there could be only two people. Well, you know, strategically it doesn't do you anything to say Jodie Foster because. Oh, so I should take a gamble here.
Starting point is 00:57:18 I should roll the dice. I think so, you're gonna wanna, you know. Because if we do the same answer, I'm technically ahead, so that's the time. There we go. Yeah, yeah, so Michael's already got two points. There we go, it's Hopkins.
Starting point is 00:57:32 You're going Hopkins? I gotta, I've been told. I can't think of anyone else who's in this movie. Okay. There's two people in this movie, that's it. I can think of a few more. Scott Glenn, Frank Dezon, and Ted Levine. I feel like the answer might be, and I don't know why I think this, the young lady who Buffalo Bill kidnaps, I believe she wanted to do something that is recent but I don't
Starting point is 00:58:05 actually know what her name is so um I yeah so I gotta go looks like I'm choosing between phase on Scott Glenn or wait well you could also you could say you know Anthony Hopkins or Jodie Foster those those guys don't own them exclusively. Oh, okay. What about the dog? Maybe the dog. Oh my God, the dog's number one. Between Foster and Hopkins, yeah, I agree with the true detective logic, but I guess
Starting point is 00:58:44 I'll just go out there and say Scott Glenn. Woof. All right. It's on. No one's ever said Scott Glenn. Oh, it's on until now. But here it is. He's never brought that kind of intensity to a conversation. OK, so the aforementioned Ted Levine came in at number five. Sadly, Scott Glenn's number four.
Starting point is 00:59:12 Oh, Scott. Yeah. But it's true. I mean, there were a lot of actors in that movie, but it wasn't like, you know, there were people that blew up recently. But. The woman in the well, her name at number three is Brooke Smith. Oh, good instinct, Greg. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:33 And she's currently on grotesquerie on FX is why that's what it is. Yeah. Some action. And then this is what it comes down to. I'm sweating. I'm sweating. I'm sweating too. Let's hold hands virtually. Number two is Jodie Foster.
Starting point is 00:59:51 Oh, what? Which is worth two points. And number one, Anthony Hopkins. Yay. So it's too little too late for Matt to catch up. And Michael Felker is our winner today. Oh, wow. Wow. I can't believe it because I didn't get a single sub.
Starting point is 01:00:12 Time. True, true honor to to tap into the pulse. That is the IMDb star meter. So great game, Doug. This was fun. Doug, I'm glad you had a good time. Great choices, because like you really threw me at least me off with the Monica Bellucci Dracula. So yeah, that's like there's no way is Anthony Hopkins. So well done. Thank you. I'm here to trick everybody. Michael, you get to go first though since you won you get to do your your plugs first. What would you like to say? I assume you want to plug your movie. Yeah. Yeah, so things will be different is now out
Starting point is 01:00:56 I believe on VOD through your favorite streaming service of Apple or Amazon via Magnolia and Magnet releasing. If you want to get a little weird and crazy with your horror stuff, watch things will be different and the comfort of your own home. I'm in. That sounds awesome. Matt O'Brien, so close, so far, but always great to have you. What would you like to plug?
Starting point is 01:01:29 I'm doing, okay, come see me live people. It's November 1st, I'm gonna be in Toronto at Comedy Bar. And then November 9th, I'm headlining Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco. Lovely, that'll be fun. Both of those places are great. Lovely that'll be fun. Both of those places are great Okay, so
Starting point is 01:01:54 Greg Jarden also another you know terrific performance today. He didn't take the prize but It was a pleasure having you here Thank you film is on Netflix. It's what's inside Anything else you'd like to add? There's also a game that Netflix put out, it's what's inside game.com, which is actually legitimately totally insane. Oh, cool. You can get on the website with a bunch of your friends and you can quote unquote swap bodies.
Starting point is 01:02:18 You upload a picture of your face, you record your voice, and then you take control of someone else's picture and someone else's voice and you have to guess Who's talking and it it's insane that they like made this that's awesome Your movie in this game are just gonna end society as we know it Play with Jamie Gertz if you can okay, yeah or Keith or Sutherland. Tuesday night, Douglas movies is going to be back at the lab at the improv in
