Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screaming baby sticky seeds with 50 acid pop or kernels in his teeth. They're still not one that he won't see because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug Love Movies recording on Sunday, August 10th, 2025. And my guest today are returning champ and two strong contenders. They are Mike Carosa, Martha Kelly, and Justin Thompson. And hello.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Hi. Hello. Howdy. Let's meet them individually, alphabetically, by first name. He is a returning champ. Having defended or. rather defeated. He defended himself and defeated Jeff Tate and Guy Branham in Rosemont, Illinois. It's Justin Thompson. Hello. Hey, Doug. Thank you for having me. I'm happy to defend the title. And, you know, I just hope for a good
Starting point is 00:01:14 sportsmanship all around. Well, welcome back. This is by my count, your 13th appearance on the show. oh wow i would have guessed 12 you would have been so close at most a dozen yeah yeah this is uh this is number 13 so good luck lucky number 13 making her 16th appearance on this show yeah three more three more than you just it's martha
Starting point is 00:01:51 Kelly, hey, Martha. Hey, thanks for having me. Yeah, it's been, this is your 16th time. You know, give or take a few, because I, you know, the math is done by me, so it's not entirely accurate. I'm shocked that you ever invited me back a second time, given how bad I am at watching movies and guessing the correct answer, but I am delighted.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Well, I still wanted to check. Check in with you about how it's been 10 years since Elvin and the Chipmunks, the road chip, came out. And I'm wondering if you've given up hope that there will be another squeak wall. I have, like, I can't imagine, unless they, unless, I mean, I can't imagine Jason Lee would go back to it at this point. Yeah, they probably have to get a new, a new human to, uh, to interact. Like, because they sort of, like, handed it off from Jason Lee to somebody else in one of the movies, right? Like, yes, unfortunately, Zach, the guy who plays, uh, he was in that show Chuck and he plays a superhero. Yeah, yeah, Zachary Levi.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Yeah. And I will just say, um, his character was not, was. supposed to be a protagonist, but didn't treat the chipmunks the way I thought he should have. Yeah. They'd get even with
Starting point is 00:03:31 him on occasion, though. Didn't he end up with his face in a cake or something? No. I think he's in the squeakle, and he forces them to go to high school where they get bullied. That seems
Starting point is 00:03:49 terrible. What's wrong with this guy? Is he supposed to be Jason Lee's character's like brother or cousin or something? I think he's his cousin. It's supposed to be an aunt who I mean Alvin
Starting point is 00:04:07 unfortunately Alvin caused Dave to get horribly injured and when they're doing a concert in France and then they go back to California without Dave and an aunt and her nephew meet them at the airport and unfortunately Zachary Levi's character is a dip shit and um takes the break off her wheelchair and she goes falling down the
Starting point is 00:04:34 escalator in her wheelchair and so then he has to take care of them and he's terrible at it and I'm still mad at him and then the next one is chipwrecks so there's no people in it they just threw on an island, you know, trying to survive? Well, Jason Lee and David Cross are in it, and they have kind of a beast story where they're, they are trying to find the chipmunks on the, and the chip outs on the island, and Jenny Slate is in it, and she's great.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Oh, that's fun. Yeah. Well, see, you do know a lot about movies, Martha. Well, just a very particular kind of movies. Those four movies I know a lot of us. Also joining us today booked mere hours ago
Starting point is 00:05:25 joining us for his third appearance. So he's got some catching up to these other people. But strangely enough, third appearance, but second appearance with Martha Kelly. Yeah. Weird coincidence.
Starting point is 00:05:43 It's Mike Carosa. Hey, Mike. What's up, Doug? Thanks for having me. Happy I could hop on. So last minute, but thrilled to be here. You know what I mean? Yeah, I do. And, you know, Mike, I was just thinking of myself when I booked you that, you know, I wanted to say, congratulations on living in Canada. Yeah, it's pretty sick. Yeah, because even if you lose today, you win. That's right. Yeah, I get to look outside and be like, well, no ice here. Yeah, because it's summer. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I know I understand. No, I meant about the summer thing. What are you talking about? Yeah. No, there's no ice anywhere right now. Hot as hell everywhere. Is it like hotter than usual this summer? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:35 We're in the midst of our like fifth heat wave since the spring. Yeah, so that's, that's happening everywhere. Yeah, it's pretty brutal. Like Southern California has been the most. cool and just absolutely pleasant weather this summer and the rest of the country's been on fire and then of course outskirts of Los Angeles are also on fire so it's great but thank you everybody for
Starting point is 00:07:00 joining me today and before we play some games I'd like to do the recommendation nation segment where each of my guests recommends one motion picture and just one. It could be old, could be new. Preferably available to be seen by people, because that's why you'd want to recommend it
Starting point is 00:07:23 so they could see it, but whatever you're feeling. So we'll start with you, Justin. Okay, yeah. I saw weapons this past weekend. Oh, yeah. Yeah, so. Now, how many chipmarts are in that one?
Starting point is 00:07:41 quite a few i think you know i saw a bunch uh scrolling around i would say yes positive recommendation for it i'll give it uh the ringing just an endorsement and uh yeah you know i'm into the spooky movies yeah well it's you know for just to catch anybody up that doesn't know about weapons it's uh the gentleman who made his first horror film was barbarian very in his big hit so like you know people say he'd do with something else and he came up with this uh this weapons movie and uh he's already being you know acclaimed as a modern master of horror from these uh two films that he's made and um i saw it yesterday as well and it's kind of it's a movie where the less people know about it i think the more
Starting point is 00:08:38 entertaining it'll be would you agree with that justin Yeah, absolutely. I was thinking about that, just how to describe her or what it is. It's just, yeah, go in, don't watch a trailer. If you like Barbarian, you'll love it. And, yeah, so this guy, Zach Craigor, he was a member of the widest kids you know, comedy group.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Yeah, so he brings it a little comedy to his horror movies. Right, yeah, similar to the Jordan Peel thing. It's like, okay, if you can build attention and release it in a joke, applying that to horror makes sense? Yeah. Yeah, that was like
Starting point is 00:09:15 part of the fun of the barbarian I think it's been long enough now that I can say it out loud is that a character is sort of introduced well into the movie and then it gets kind of a little bit of a comedy for a little bit and that character's played by
Starting point is 00:09:31 the voice of Alvin in the chipmucks movies, Justin Long. Yeah. God damn it, Doug. Right to keep it all connected. Yeah, I always, I always want Martha to be included.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Thank you. So it sounds like, I'm going to jump ahead here for a second. It sounds like Mike was intending to recommend weapons as well. A thousand percent. And just like Justin and you, I think that going in as blind as possible is the way to do it. It is a hell of a ride. It's so good. And just consider this.
Starting point is 00:10:13 We're all abiding by the let's not spoil it for people rule. Like not even just as spoilers in general, but we're all pretty excited for the listeners to feel like, okay, I got to see this. And we're excited for you to go do that so much that we believe that it, we're not talking about it. I'm not saying anything else. Go see the movie.
Starting point is 00:10:36 It was phenomenal. But I do have a backup movie to bring up if I get to do another one. But weapons was phenomenal. Yeah. And that's what you came here to say. Oh, yeah. You knew that you knew coming in that I'd ask you to recommend a movie. And you loved the weapons.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Just weapons. But I did, I think we can talk about this amongst, you know, me and Justin and the listeners who have seen it already. I can't remember any animals in it. Are there any animals in it? Um, does it like a dog? Do you remember, Justin?
Starting point is 00:11:20 Is there a dog at some point? I'm not remembering anything. I am really scratching my brain here. Yeah. It's not funny. It's, you know, I will say it takes place in suburbia, and I'm realizing that there's little or no dogs.
Starting point is 00:11:35 So I don't want to live in that neighborhood. I'll tell you that. Yeah. Because I like stepping in dogcraft. You know, and if you're expecting to see that, and don't let that be a deal breaker if you're on the fence. Oh, yeah. If you're a person that refuses to see a movie,
Starting point is 00:11:53 if it might not have dogs in it, then that's just silly. You should definitely check it out. You've got weird rules. It's an interesting, it's a movie that kind of stays with you. and, you know, you just kind of get reminded of things that happened in it, you know, here and there as you, you know, go back about your business.
Starting point is 00:12:20 It's really an interesting movie. Martha, all this weapons talk, I feel like weapons isn't even on your radar, like, is something that you want to see. Well, I've seen people talking about it on social media. and it does sound really interesting. I haven't seen any of the movies that are out in theaters right now, but so I will recommend an older movie
Starting point is 00:12:47 because hearing about a horror movie that has comedy in it reminds me of The Exorcist 3. Oh, okay. It's not, it's not like ironically funny. It's intentionally has, funny parts to it. And it's written by the guy who wrote the book, The Exorcist, and
Starting point is 00:13:12 who wrote the screenplay for the first Exorcist. He also wrote the screenplay for the Exorcist 3, and they completely ignore that there was an Exorcist, too. I love that in a franchise when they just gas light one of the installments
Starting point is 00:13:30 like it never happened. Because it was pretty bad. The second one was like famously terrible, but the third one is really good and it's George C. Scott is in it and it's very scary and it has funny parts to it and it's weird as hell.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Did you ever see George C. Scott in The Changeling? No. That's another good one. And it's horror but it's like more, you know, of the mind you know, like it's not violent per se.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Yeah. But anyway, back to your movie, Exorcist 3. So, and it's just, it's just three, like, maybe like Roman numerals and then no more words, right? Right. And it, yes, and it picks up, it doesn't pick up timeline-wise where the first one left off, but story-wise it does. and it has in it um the story of exorcist three involves the priest from the first exorcist and he's in it that character and the actor are in exorcist three oh wow and it's in it's a lot of it takes place in a mental hospital and it's very very scary all right this is uh
Starting point is 00:15:01 I kind of out of left field with the super scary recommendation from you, Martha. And I'm especially excited about it because, you know, it's August. So it's Halloween season is officially begun according to places they're trying to sell us shit. I saw like all the Halloween candies out at the grocery store. It's amazing. they just have such a nice window there where like other than like you know labor day nothing really happens between now at Halloween where you need decorations you know and and and scary movies are you know a year round thing I ever once in a while I see somebody go why did they release such a such a movie in October like it's a horror movie why did they release in October? Every time, you know, I feel like it's the same thing where it's like some of the most successful horror movies of all time weren't, you know, weren't released to coincide with Halloween. Like, we like to be scared year round.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Yeah. You know, so like comedies only come out around April Fool's Day. All right. So since we have a second. Since we couldn't really talk about weapons, what's your backup recommendation for people who can't get out to see weapons right now or don't want to because it doesn't have dogs in it? Okay. I've got one. We watched us last night just on a whim.
Starting point is 00:16:46 We both got baked and we were like, let's just throw this on. It's on Netflix out here. So hopefully it's on Netflix down there too. We watched Mega Mind and it was really fun. like the Will Ferrell Tina Fey movie and it's just really fun it was jokes throughout the whole thing
Starting point is 00:17:03 the plot felt fresh still from 2010 just very good it was just a very fun funny movie and if you're just kind of like I need to throw something on that'll make me laugh and feel kind of chill and low impact
Starting point is 00:17:19 like this is it this is such a good movie it's the perfect like 90 minute get some popcorn on enjoy your day kind of movie have you seen it martha no i have not i've seen a poster for it does that count yeah that totally counts sorry yeah dog loves dog loves posters the um uh it's funny you say that i can't i can't find it here in my records but i swear somebody else recommended it recently like there must be it must be getting pushed by the algorithm or
Starting point is 00:17:52 something like how did you how did you land on that to watch like i know i have the hardest time deciding what to watch if i'm just scrolling through it was uh just on netflix literally we were we were going about netflix being like okay well i want to watch this thing and then my girlfriend was like ah i've seen that too recently um and we just scrolled and megamine was right there and we both stopped on it going it'd be pretty silly how about we give this 20 minutes and if we hate it we do something else but we just kind of thought it was a funny thing to play chicken with because sometimes these movies don't always hit the mark but we ended up like you know we set the 20 minute timer and forgot about it and then you know about an hour in i was like do you think we
Starting point is 00:18:35 keep watching the movie and she was like yeah that's a great bit good job you know what i mean so we we just enjoyed it it just came up on netflix as like your next watch yeah yeah no i swear that that's it's being pushed uh for whatever reason other than, you know, I think that's also part of all of these streamers now kind of have to go, have to buy these movies that have been around for a while, but might have also, you know, in their minds strategically, might have fallen through the cracks enough that it's, especially animated for children, it might feel new if it's just suddenly, hey, Netflix is like, you know, hey, it's new on Netflix. So, you know, or they're just, you know, pushing from their,
Starting point is 00:19:19 their catalog. It's my new plan. I haven't done it a lot because I haven't watched entire feature films on streaming very often, but lately. But the last couple times I have, I just let, when the movie ends, I just go, okay, let's see what they
Starting point is 00:19:35 think I want to watch next. And in a couple of cases, I actually went, okay, I'll watch this next. And then, you know, was somewhat rewarded by it. You know, they don't just recommend, you know, they don't recommend a classic, you know, they'll come out with some pretty uh pretty odd stuff but uh all right well these are you know if you can get out
Starting point is 00:19:56 to the theater see weapons if you're you know at home i'm sure exorcist three is on uh one of the streamers or you know maybe available for cheap rental or whatever and and uh megamind is on Netflix thanks for those recommendations everybody we need to take a break the games will begin after this. Starting point is 00:23:35 Back to the show. We are back. The first game we're going to play today, I'm really proud of this one I hope you're proud to be the first people to play it it's called Pisco poop What Pisco poop I'll name a movie
Starting point is 00:23:58 You tell me if it features Joe Piscopo From S&L Or Pooping Or both Oh my God People poop in movies sometimes Right there on screen and sometimes Joe Piscopo is in a movie
Starting point is 00:24:15 maybe both of those things have happened in a movie that's for the three of you to determine we'll start with Justin I'll name a movie you tell me if it's Piscopo Piscopo they sound like kinds of mixed breed dogs and you tell me
Starting point is 00:24:39 which one of those it is if Justin is wrong then Martha gets a 50-50 guessing from the remaining two choices. And if Martha misses it, then Mike will get a gimmee point because he's smart enough to figure out that when there's only three options and two of them are wrong, that third one is going to be worth all the money. And every time someone gets one right,
Starting point is 00:24:59 we'll start with the next person in line. Are you ready, Justin? All right. So Piscopo, Piscopoe, Piscopi? Yeah. You can say Piscopo or poop or both Which one of those things happens And okay
Starting point is 00:25:20 So there's two possible answers There's three, both is the third one Unless you, were you not counting pooping? I'm just really trying to wrap my head around this game, dog It's a real mindbender It's pretty complicated Do you want to phone a friend? Do you want to get Trey Galleon on the phone and see if he understands it.
Starting point is 00:25:43 I could call him up, but I'm going to just do my best. Because he famously in this game forgets what answers have already been said so that he doesn't know. So we almost should call this game a Trey Gallia Memorial event. But Memorial means he's dead, though, right? Yeah. Yeah. So this isn't a memorial.
Starting point is 00:26:09 This is more of a tribute. Yeah, in honor of. This is in honor of, yes. You ready, Justin? Let's do it. The movie is called sidekicks. All right, sidekicks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:28 All right, I'm familiar. You are? Chuck Norris. Yes. Okay. I think, I think you're right. All right, hold on. No.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Is it more likely to have Joe Piscopo or Piss in it? Poop. Poop. Okay. All right. Or both. It could have Joe Piscopo or someone else in the movie. He could be in it and he or someone else could be pooping.
Starting point is 00:26:58 I'm going to go Piscopo. That is correct. You know, I thought this guy is just going to take a wild guess and be wrong, but you really, you really sussed it out. And I love that you do that it was a Chuck. It's like Chuck Norris and Piscopo like team up to fight crime. Is that what happens? No, it's like a troubled teen movie. And then I don't know if he's just like hallucinating seeing Chuck Norris or.
Starting point is 00:27:27 Oh, that might be. That might be it. Maybe Piscopo is the bad guy. Yeah, or maybe the kid's stepfather or something. I started a picture that Piscopo actually does like Kung Fu or. something in it. Like, I'm picturing that he is trying to be like new action. But I, you know,
Starting point is 00:27:46 I could be wrong. It's a very vague memory as our most Piscopo movies, but Justin, you're on the board. You've got one point. Poop yes. All right, Martha. Hello.
Starting point is 00:28:06 You're up next. Piscopo poo or both the motion picture called dumb and dumber um okay that is a movie I've seen I don't remember Joe Piscopo being in it so I'm gonna say
Starting point is 00:28:23 poop that is correct the great Jeff Daniels as Dumber just blast it out on camera and it's And it's a, you know, now you can just watch just that moment if you have internet.
Starting point is 00:28:42 You could see that a lot of times is a, you know, what do you call it, a meme or whatever. It's a popular gift. A gift. It's a, it really is a gift. It's a gift from the heavens to have Jeff Daniels taking a nasty one like at our disposal anytime I want to watch it. But it's the cut to Jim Carrey laughing on. the tiny bike that really makes it for me
Starting point is 00:29:09 that movie really does have some nice like just real I mean fairly brothers in general they really have their you know even if the overall movies are great there's still like moments that are that are so funny and dumb and dumber than what I really like is
Starting point is 00:29:29 when when they're playfully playing with the in the snow and Jim Carrey just throws a snowball and what's her name, Lauren? He, like, you know, just nails her in the face with a snowball. It's extremely violent and so funny. Mike, here we go.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Here you go. Let's see if you remember anything about this movie. It's called Wise guys. Wise guys, say? Wise guys. Okay, I don't know that I've seen this. but sounds like Italians are involved and I think I'm going to say Piscopo. I don't know that.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Yeah, Episcopo. Let's go with that. I love this. You're all batting a thousand. That is the correct answer. You got it like, yeah, Wise Guys was a mafia comedy. And it was directed by Brian DePalma, who's not known for his, he's known for mafia stuff, but not comedies.
Starting point is 00:30:37 And it was terrible. Okay. But Siskel and Ebert at the time, I remember, both gave it like two really huge thumbs up. Like they both loved it. And it is terrible. So it really always stuck in my mind
Starting point is 00:30:56 that it was weird that those two guys like that movie so much. And, yeah, of course, Joe Piscopo is in there. Justin, we're back to you. This one's going to come down to the wire, I think. I think everybody really knows their poe and their poo. The movie, Justin, is a long-came Polly.
Starting point is 00:31:23 I'm going to go poop on this one. Yeah, it's Ben Stiller, and he really blasts one out. I don't know if that's as big of a gif as Jeff Daniels. I think this movie is where we got sharding from. Oh, I think, yeah, or no, it's where they took advantage of sharding being a thing people were saying. Okay. I don't think they coined it.
Starting point is 00:31:47 I think it was like, oh, yeah, I know that expression. Now I'm finally hearing it in a movie. But I could be wrong, but I still, I love that you, is it Philip Seymour Hoffman that says it? Yeah, I think so. It was like the basketball scene where he can't make a buck, it at all and he keeps going make it rain and just getting nothing but backboard yeah no it's he is so funny in that movie so funny
Starting point is 00:32:12 all right martha hello you're up next it's a movie this is real called dead heat dead heat I've heard of it I don't think I've seen it did you hear that my cat Gary woke
Starting point is 00:32:34 up and he's yell. No, that's okay. We can't hear them. I'm going to say both. I love both guests. Unfortunately, that is not correct. Uh-oh. Yeah, so now Mike's got a real shot here at tying it up with Justin.
Starting point is 00:32:57 I swear I was also going to go both on this one. I feel like it was about time for a both, but I'm just going to go with poop. oh my god you're serious I'm guessing poop are we just giving it to Justin is that what's happening I think that's what's happening because this is not
Starting point is 00:33:13 there's no pooping that I'm aware of in dead heat and so that means Justin what's the last remaining answer uh wait what was the question oh no I tell him all right
Starting point is 00:33:28 are we still tied is that what we're hearing and I need to close this up You need to zip it up and you need to just say the third remaining answer. The movie's called Dead Heat. All right. Is it Piscoppo? Were you daydreaming?
Starting point is 00:33:50 Why are you even worried about it? I don't know. I just lost track of what it said. There's a lot of fast talking going on. And here's the thing. I don't even know what Joe Piscopo is. looks like oh buddy i mean either i'm over here thinking he's just italian that's all i got yeah i thought that like uh you know that's your real like die hard like went back and look at s and l that was
Starting point is 00:34:16 like on before your time before you existed even uh yeah he's uh he's definitely that's why that's what makes his game tough but everybody still ended up being pretty good at it and uh yes he is in dead dead heat he stars with treat williams and one of them dies i think treat williams dies and but then his ghost and his partner tried to solve his death i think that's what happens yeah and then uh i was going to go on to say uh bridesmaids of course has the famous hooping in a wedding dress sequence and then uh but not on the wedding dress that was the impressive part to me I don't think she got any
Starting point is 00:35:05 on the dress and then the last one was maybe Joe Piscopo's biggest claim to fame in films was the Michael Keaton comedy Johnny Dangerously
Starting point is 00:35:20 which was like a gangster you know comedy and I don't think very good but people of a certain age that you know if you were 12 when it came how you look back on it very fondly. So in classic DLM fashion,
Starting point is 00:35:36 you just built this game around him having a funny name. Yeah, well, it's, I would call it an unofficial sequel to Diarrhea Perlman, which of course is another very popular. A game we played. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:54 But congratulations to Justin, because you did it. You actually, We won the game, and that means, well, we'll find out what it means after this break. We'll be right back. We're back, and Justin won that last game. So that means he gets to go first in our final game, determining our winner today. He's here to continue being a champion, but it's still anybody's game at this point.
Starting point is 00:36:27 And anybody could have blind luck that would throw us that would thrust them to the winner's decision exactly exactly it doesn't have to be me it's uh you know the the games of this show are what we in the game world call equitable which means uh I think if you look up the word equitable it means any fool can win I don't think that's exactly it but you know what I mean it's fair it's fair for everybody but also at the same time unfair for people for know-it-alls because you could still lose and the game we're going to play now is called the little search engine that could everything is a remaker sequel these days and so uh i was inspired for this edition of little search engine that could to uh focus on the uh whole sequel thing so that's also why i was delighted when
Starting point is 00:37:27 uh martha unprompted brought up exorcist part three uh in this game i'm going to tell you a word that i typed into the internet movie database this very morning after i typed it in i uh wrote down the top ten movies that have that word in the title so the three of you once i tell you the word. You're going to take turns, guessing movies with that word in the title. If the movie you guess is on the top 10 list, you get points based on how high up to list it is. Number 1 gets 10 points and number 10 gets one point. And there's all those points in between that could be had over the course of your three guesses. You get a guess three times, but you don't have to do it all at once. We'll take turns.
Starting point is 00:38:22 So Justin will guess first, and then we'll go to Mike and then to Martha and just keep guessing titles, and hopefully they'll be on the list. And like I said, since it's a sort of a tribute to sequels today, I went with the number two, not T-O-O-O- or T-E-E. but straight up T-W-O or the numeral two. So I wrote down the top ten movies, and this is a current algorithm. This is currently what people are typing into their IMDB, what they are searching. So keep that in mind for your answers.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Justin, any questions? no no questions i'm just trying to think of how much you leaned on the current part in that so do i start guessing now yeah you just guess one just guess one title and uh well i'll tell you where it is on the list if it's on the list and how many uh points you get i'd be remiss if i just didn't say godfather part two well you know uh that is probably in a lot of ways is one of the, you know, one of the most successful sequels of all time. But I don't know why anyone would specifically be looking it up today. So that's why I don't think it fared well because it did not make the list.
Starting point is 00:40:10 But that is a great guess. That's like, that's the go-to answer whenever anybody says, has there ever been a sequel, it's better than the original. and people kind of feel... Yeah, and then they start talking about Godfather 3. No, they stop talking. They stop talking where they get to 3. See, in the case of the Exorcist movies,
Starting point is 00:40:29 they leapfrog over 2, because it's the worst one, and they get right back to business with Part 3, as we learned from Martha earlier. Mike, what's your first guess? Okay. I think there's like... I'm trying to think... There's two sequels that have been aggressively marketed recently that I'm thinking of.
Starting point is 00:40:54 And I'm wondering which one would be, I'm going to go Happy Gilmore 2. Question mark. Happy, because is it named Happy Gilmore 2? Yes, it's Happy Gilmore 2. Okay, yeah. Do you don't need a full title? There's no full title. It's just Happy Gilmore 2.
Starting point is 00:41:14 What I say? Happy Gilmore 2. I do like a full title. but fortunately you won't have to there's there's in the case of this i'll be open for all of you uh full disclosure there's only one movie that has uh you know well there's two movies that have extra words uh after the two uh on the list so you know don't be too stressed out about uh that part of it and uh so that's your answer happy gilmore too it pops up every time i open netflix i have to imagine i have to imagine i have
Starting point is 00:41:47 They are saying that the numbers are like 84 million people, like some insane number worldwide people have seen Happy Gilmore, too. So, of course, it's a very popular search right now, and it is number one. Number one. Yes, you did it. I'll take that, baby. You got that number one, but, you know, still anybody's game,
Starting point is 00:42:15 but you're off to a hell of a good start. awesome martha what's the first one that came to your mind um it's the first and only one i can and it might not even be on the list uh because it might not be called two but i joker two folly adieu um yeah that was a that was such a weird movie Like, I never saw it. Did anybody see it? I saw it. Like on TV at home?
Starting point is 00:42:55 Yeah. I didn't. Because I just, I, everybody just makes it sound like such a slog. I've never bothered. I've even thought about, I'll just put it on while I'm, you know, dusting or something. You know, like, well, doing stuff around the house and, you know, at least, you know, try to experience it. But was it as bad as they say, Martha? It's not good.
Starting point is 00:43:16 and I don't we didn't finish it it's just sort of doesn't it doesn't it doesn't really even have like a story that you can follow or it's yeah I didn't enjoy it I don't want to yeah and it's not like bad in the entertaining way and there's so many musical numbers that are very uninspired
Starting point is 00:43:41 where you thought did you see it at home too Justin I saw it at home too the sequel I yeah I just haven't pulled the trigger you know it's like because now it's also like there's so much new stuff coming out
Starting point is 00:43:59 and you know things too things that I would actually enjoy that it's hard to go back and and do this Joker business but unfortunately Martha
Starting point is 00:44:11 it did not make the cut people are not Oh, no. People are not about it today, but you still have two more guesses and something else might come into your mind as we listen to the other contestants. Justin, what do you have for guest number two? All right, new movie, second biggest hit of the summer,
Starting point is 00:44:38 I'm sure after weapons, it's the bad guys too. Number two on the list. you son of a gun you did it yes you got as close as you could get without without quite getting there um i mean that's the best you could do this round and this next round you know for both of you is going to be uh crooosh have you uh martha have you experienced the bad guys one or two um no but i did see ryan gosling at comic con just briefly he walked by he had sunglasses on so it took me a second and know who it was what does he have to do with bad guys one or two i thought he was in bad guys too
Starting point is 00:45:25 i don't think he is okay well then for fucking he uh gosh what was he there for he must have been there for that i always forget the title but he's in a new out a new astronaut movie where He's like a reluctant. He's like Don Nott's, the reluctant astronaut. Oh. You know, they say Ryan Gosling as the Don Nauts of the 2000s. He really has become strangely like this kind of known for more for comedy than for drama. I think part of it is, I think it's calculated because I think most of the dramas he's in,
Starting point is 00:46:05 he's in a couple of good ones, but a lot of them stink, whereas most of the comedy films he's in are really good. nice guys is so funny um so funny but yeah so he's in this new comedy this summer that's about an astronaut who doesn't want to go and he gets forced into going i think and it's by uh miller and lord the guys behind the lego and jump street and the tv show the after party uh okay enough about people's credits this is really this is really heating up this is exciting uh Mike yes it's time for your second guess I'm upset at Justin
Starting point is 00:46:48 because the bad guys too has been aggressively marketed to me in French on YouTube for the past month and I had to mute the ad because it came up so often how do you say bad guys in French that's the thing I can't remember what it's called
Starting point is 00:47:02 in French I think it's called Les Meshain de I think it's just the the meanies oh okay but um but like it's it's always on and like YouTube gives you that five seconds before you can skip an ad and I'm like I'm telling you it just like it doesn't it's just every time every kind of break it comes up
Starting point is 00:47:21 so I wait a second for that one wait wait wait Martha did you maybe see Sam Rockwell um I did also see Sam Rockwell yeah that's why he was there okay for bad guys too and Mark Mark Marron's in bad guys too also I said hi to Mark Marin and I also and I said I first First of all, I don't, he talked with me and said, how are you doing? But I don't think he remembered me. I think he just was doing the, oh, someone who recognizes me, who's backstage, because we've only met once, but I complimented him on what he said about Maria Bamford that went viral. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:01 Yeah, yeah. And then he seemed kind of annoyed. He just goes, oh, yeah, thanks. And I was like, well, we did it. We made a connection. yeah that's mark that's uh yeah that's seeming annoyed by stuff feels about right on brand yeah one of my favorite memories is him getting a new pair of shoes one day at just for laughs and andy kindler having him on the alt show and his whole set was like he wore the shoes to stage and he was like
Starting point is 00:48:29 i can't believe andy brought that up now i'm going to talk about these shoes the whole time and he would start a story stop and go these shoes i can't i don't i don't i regret buying these shoes and i just it was the most quintessential mark set i've ever experienced it was so fun yeah he's a he's a fun guy to just go just bound up to it say something friendly and then just see see where it lands because he's very very likely to be dismissive but not not you know not mean he doesn't seem to be mean he just seems to be just big mark yeah another viral clip going around with him on Howie Mandel's podcast. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Making a point. It's a good point. Doing great. Good stuff, Mark Merrin. I think you got a shot in this industry, buddy. You're doing good stuff. So he doesn't hold back. He's like, you know, because how he's talking about like how, you know, Trump doesn't, doesn't identify as a racist.
Starting point is 00:49:32 Mark was like, are you insane? Okay. Oh, right. What's your guess? Um, uh, sheesh. Um,
Starting point is 00:49:45 uh, horror movie Megan 2. That's coming soon, right? It, well, you know, that's the other thing is you could release
Starting point is 00:49:55 sometimes Canada gets stuff later. Yeah, we do. Because that movie already came out earlier this year and it's not just called Megan 2. No, it's 2.0. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:08 Yeah. You know, I like a. correct Yeah, a correct title. Title. Yeah. But that one did not make the list, I'm sad to say.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Yeah, so Martha, Justin, you still have a shot at this. I'm sure I don't, but what's your next guess? It's not technically, I don't think it even has two
Starting point is 00:50:35 in the title, but freaky or Friday, Freaky Friday. Part 2, Freakier Friday? It is. You're right about Freakier Friday, you know, being the name of that thing. And you're also right about they're not being too involved. But, you know, if there had been, I think it would have been, it would have been way up there.
Starting point is 00:51:00 It would have been a really, really good guess. But it's not on the list, I'm sad to say. Well, not a surprise. well now we have to turn to justin and see if he's got what it takes any if you get any of the movies between three through ten that are on this list that you will uh you know pass mike score if you get the number 10 movie you'll just tie mike which is you know also my lead to a win we'll see uh what is your third and final guest, Johnson Thompson. All right. You really lay out the odds there. If I just get on this list at all, I'm doing pretty good.
Starting point is 00:51:50 And I'm really struggling to think of a recently relevant sequel. So I'm over explaining to stall. I love it. Yeah, that means for my next, my third and final guess. Oh, God. Um it's called let me just yeah
Starting point is 00:52:16 let me give you some advice think of the movie that was popular and then they made another one hmm okay yeah just because I'm in the horror realm
Starting point is 00:52:33 it's not going to be on there but I'm thinking smile too oh good movie yeah smile two is on the list no way number nine on the list and it's worth two points
Starting point is 00:52:49 so you just squeaked ahead of Mike by one point Mike has to come up with a correct answer in order to win this thing what do you think Mike I really don't know Tell me about the staggering of release dates
Starting point is 00:53:10 Is really making me second guess this one But I think I'm going to go with it Because again, a movie that's been advertised to me Nonstop and I can't There's only so much I can take of seeing Sweet Bob Odenkirk's face getting punched in But I'm going to go with nobody too See that's
Starting point is 00:53:27 An interesting thing that you brought up The staggered release states because it's not out here and it's not out in Canada, right? Well, it's coming. Right, it's any day. It's coming next week. It's next Friday. It opens here. So it's probably a
Starting point is 00:53:45 simultaneous release in both countries. But even though we're not quite one country yet, I know that's, you know, on the potential things that are going to happen. But I'm sorry to say that, you know, none of
Starting point is 00:54:01 these movies are I'm coming. They're all movies that have already debuted. So I will let you, Justin, is it okay if I let him guess one more? Of course. Okay.
Starting point is 00:54:15 So, you know, Sam Levine wouldn't have let that slide. Yeah. But Justin is a fair nice man. Tell Sam Levine to listen to this. He'll get so fucking mad, dude. He'll be so fast. He'll be pissed.
Starting point is 00:54:31 So what's your, so what you got something else, Mike? Two. You still have a shot at this. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm racking my, um, horror movies are what I know. So I'm just trying to, two, yeah, two, two, two, two, oh, oh, 28 years later. That starts, there's a two in that. There is a two.
Starting point is 00:54:56 You're right about that. But, um, you know, first for, you know, whatever reason, uh, you know the 28 didn't come up for a two but I you know again another another fantastic guess but I tried I'm going to call it I'm going to say you know Justin's our winner but before we make it official
Starting point is 00:55:19 Martha you want to guess one more just for fun I am really having a crisis because I can't I couldn't think of anything and I still can't it's also random
Starting point is 00:55:41 you're going to recognize I'd say you recognize two or three of these ones that are remaining but you know it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to think of it right now but it is stuff
Starting point is 00:55:51 you've probably heard of um I don't know anything recent so I'm going to say cars too I love that guess that's a fantastic guess you know maybe it was you know Owen Wilson's birthday
Starting point is 00:56:09 recently or something like you never know what's going to get people to start searching for a movie title but unfortunately I don't think other than bad guys too that's the only animated movie that made this top 10 list
Starting point is 00:56:25 so reconfirming Justin Thompson retains his crown you've won once again Justin congratulations you not only get to come back on the show soon I know it was a long break since the last time you won so this time I'll tighten it up get you back sooner but you get to do your plugs before I reveal the rest of the titles that were in that top 10 so what would you like to promote well you said any folk would and one did I wanted to say
Starting point is 00:57:01 yeah you can follow me on Instagram at Justin Thompson L.O.L. If you're in the greater New York area yeah even if you're in Jersey come out I'm sure is this coming out tomorrow or Tuesday? This will be out tonight. All right yeah Friday I have a show
Starting point is 00:57:17 I do call drop-up video. I have a bunch of comedians on a panel. We screen and riff on music videos that yeah you'll find that I'll Instagram that's called drop a video and I have a podcast called Music's Great. You can find that there too. How often do you that do that live show? Right now I'm doing it every other month. Oh, okay. So yeah, if you can't make it this month, uh, yeah, follow me and you'll see that. The next one will be in October? I believe so. I know how every other month works.
Starting point is 00:57:50 I don't. apologies for the hardball question but thanks again Doug all right I got you okay we will get plugs from Martha and Mike in a second and I've got a few things to plug
Starting point is 00:58:09 but everybody's dying to know what the hell was on this list number 10 no doubt because of Sandler love in general grownups too Oh, wow. Number eight, no doubt because part six just came out and was a big hit. Final Destination 2.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Yeah. Number seven, thanks to the current naked gun motion picture being so popular, the naked gun, two and a half, the smell of fear. Wow. Yeah. Number six, God knows why. I just think people just love to type and talk about Dune part two. Number five, it must be recently appearing on streaming, and nobody saw it in theaters.
Starting point is 00:59:03 So that might be why it's so high on this list. Juror number two. Yeah, the Clint Eastwood movie starring. I don't think I've heard of that one. Nicholas Holt, who is in, you know, of course, he's Lex Luthor and Superman. so that also may be giving a juror number two a little bump. And then I haven't seen it yet.
Starting point is 00:59:27 It's a sequel to a Netflix movie, The Old Guard, too. Have you seen that on your Netflix, Mike? No, I haven't even heard of that one. You know, Shalise the Wall. Sarlese, they're own. It's an action movie. and the first one
Starting point is 00:59:50 was called the old guard so this is called the old guard two and number three I mean in all tracks yeah and then another another sequel that's supposedly better the original I haven't seen it yet but I do want to watch it
Starting point is 01:00:06 because I'm a big fan of John Bernthal who co-stars with Ben Affleck in the accountant two was number three and then Bad Boys 2 was number two and Happy Gilmore, too, was number one, of course.
Starting point is 01:00:24 Martha, what would you like to promote? Well, I'm going to promote some animated shows that I'm in, just for the halibut. Carolyn, The End of the World, which is on Netflix. Cool. Common Side Effects, which is on HBO Max. It's part of Adult Swim. and the Great North, which is on Fox and also on Hulu.
Starting point is 01:00:56 Yes, which Hulu now, do you hear? That's going to get, it's going to get folded into Disney and so Hulu won't be like its own thing anymore. I wonder, yeah, all of that, it makes me feel like my dad when he would try to use the computer. I don't understand what's happening. yeah it's all i mean i guess it's just going to become one monolithic streaming service that all the movies are at and you probably have to pay a monthly fee and then pay for the movies individually and then pay to exit because that's the thing that drives me crazy about these streaming services
Starting point is 01:01:38 is when you try to exit they really like are you sure you want to exit like they just have this real nervous energy that they that if you leave you'll never come back um i i had disney plus i uh ended my subscription and then resubscribed and have never been able to log in again so i can't figure it out but i will uh i forgot i wanted to tell you uh exorcist three streaming on peacock and amazon prime oh nice that's good to know that's really good to know because i You got me interested because I, you know, I remember seeing it at the time and, you know, just being, well, this isn't, at least this isn't exorcist to the heretic, but it was still, I don't know why I didn't like it. It's wild, and I saw it for the first time when I was high on marijuana, and it was a wonderful way to watch it. All right.
Starting point is 01:02:41 Mike Carosa What do you want to promote, buddy? Best thing to do is check out my link tree In link tree slash Mike Carosa, M-K-E-C-A-R-R-Z-Z-A I'll be in Vancouver August 21st to the 23rd headlining the company underground And I'll be doing jokes, please
