Starting point is 00:01:24 Shopify.com slash dLM. Go to Shopify.com slash dLM. That's Shopify.com. That's Shopify. dot com slash d lm back to the show Doug hates candy wrappers screaming maybe sticky seeds with 50 acid pop or kernels in his teeth there's still not one that he won't see because Doug Hey everybody my name is Doug and I love movies this is Doug loves movies recording on Wednesday afternoon February 18th 2026 and my guest today are two incredible newbies and one stinking old bee
Starting point is 00:02:07 and Natasha Providey, Sean Murphy and Gareth Reynolds, hello. Hi. Hello, hello. Let's meet everybody individually and alphabetically by first name.
Starting point is 00:02:22 I love you incredible what I call you? Oldby. Stinking old bee. Oh, yes, stinking old bee. Hey, you stinking old bee. Gareth Reynolds. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Hi, everybody. Thank you, as always. And likewise, Doug. All B is completely used with affection because it's the opposite of new B. Okay, but it's still, I think we could punch it up, but I'll let it go. I love you.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I love your terms, so okay. Okay, well then you might not, I don't know what you're going to feel about what I'm about to ask you to do next. I don't know. Is it true that you have three podcasts? Yes. All right, let's play F. Mary Kill with your three podcasts. Why are you doing this?
Starting point is 00:03:04 I'm an old B I don't understand what that means I want to F them all and sometimes I want to kill them all and I'm married to them all currently You are very married to all three of them and forever hold your peace I guess Thank you
Starting point is 00:03:21 But thank you for joining us today I don't know how you juggle all those podcasts Well I out there is the one thing I want to promote I have a movie Doug What? Yeah I have a movie called Give It Up that'll be at CineQuest debuting May
Starting point is 00:03:37 or March 15th and you can go to Give It Upfilm dot com if you want to see it in person in San Jose then Nice. What is it? What is it? It's basically a I hate the term
Starting point is 00:03:53 mockumentary but it's a fake doc about, get ready for this. A comedian whose podcast falls apart and so he has to go on the road try to be a stand-up for the first time in 10 years in our algorithmic nightmare. Wow, that does sound scary. Well, Doug, again, I don't know if you let it's not scary.
Starting point is 00:04:14 It's, it's, it's fun. It's a comedy, but it's dark too, so you're right. Yeah. It's an old bee. He's an old bee. He's a stinking old bee. Do you want to F marry or kill this movie? I want to, I think I want to F this movie.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Okay. I want to F it. I felt married to it and now it feels like we're effing again. Oh, that's nice. Well, thank you for taking your busy schedule of three podcasts and a movie to be with us this afternoon. My pleasure. Her movie, The Dreadful, is in Select Theater's and VOD on Friday. It's writer-director, Natasha Kermani.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Hello. Yes, hi. Thank you for having me. Am I saying your last name correctly? You are. You nailed it. Oh, good. I apologize for not.
Starting point is 00:05:03 I should have asked before we started to confirm, but I just went wild and took a shot at it. No, you got it. You got it. Yeah. So this movie, tell us about it. Yeah, so it is a gothic fantasy horror film. And I guess one of the kind of cool things about it is we have Sophie Turner and Kit Harrington
Starting point is 00:05:28 back together since Game of Thrones back in a medieval setting. So the movie is set during the 15th century. And it also stars Marsha Gayharden. So it's sort of Sophie and Marcia playing these two women who are living in this sort of like very brutal, desolate landscape. And Kit Harrington's character comes back and gives them some bad news and everything sort of spirals from there. But yeah, it's a fun little indie horror.
Starting point is 00:05:57 I'm very proud of it. See, Gareth, that's how easy it is. I can describe your... own movie. I'll try it again. Are you ready? It's like an old bee. Give it Upfilm.com.
Starting point is 00:06:08 It's an old bee. I'm very excited to see this movie and thank you for joining us today. Do you enjoy the movie trivia? I do. I'm a little nervous. I feel like I'm not so good at it, but I'm going to try my, I'm going to try my best. Okay, cool. And he's got two specials on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Yeah, that's, you heard me, Gareth. He's got two of them. Well, let's play F. Mary. It's Sean Murphy. Hey, Sean. Hey, Doug. Thanks for having me. I'm a long time listener, and I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Well, I, you know, when I heard that and you reached out and had the, the bona of Fides, if it were, if you will, I was like, let's have them on. Because mostly, I'm curious, what are your specials called? first special and new special? Yeah, first special is called Neil and the new special is called Long Story Thin. And I have no movies like the other two guests.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Although Garris movie sounds a lot like my life without the Act One hit podcast. Do you want a podcast? I can give you a podcast. I'll take one. I can use all the help I could get. I got a bunch. Yeah, if you just gave them out to people,
Starting point is 00:07:25 then they'll free up your time and I'm sure they would just continue to be a massive success. And then I could make a podcast about giving them the podcast. That's a great idea, Doug. Oh, yeah. Or I think we're on to something. You're the podcast fairy. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:07:37 You start a podcast. You come up with a great premise. You get it going and then just hand it off to somebody else. Yeah. That's great. It's like a CNBC show. I try that, but none of my podcast premises would be strong enough for someone who would want to take it on.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Well, let me just say, Quickly, Doug. The one thing you do is you have the best start time for a live show ever. So don't knock that. Oh, the 420 in the afternoon. It's like 6.30 or outdoors. It's light out. It's brilliant. Yeah, it works out pretty nice for me. I've got, do any of those coming up. I don't know. I used to do them more frequently that I do now. But it is great to have that as an option. How's your movie trivia skills, Sean? Pretty good. I like movies and I like trivia. So I think I think pretty good.
Starting point is 00:08:31 All right. Well, we're going to find out today and no pressure. It's all just for fun. There's no nothing really on the line. But before we play. Just my pride. Just my pride. Yeah, that's all it is. But on the opposite end, when you do get something correct or when a game, the endorphin rush could last you for, you know, a lunchtime as they used to say on Bonnie Python.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Before we play these games today, though, I would like each one of you to take turns recommending one movie. It doesn't have to be, you don't often all recommend the same movie, but I mean each of you pick a movie and tell us a little bit about it and why you think people would enjoy it. Starting with Gareth, what's your recommendation? Well, Doug, I knew this was coming because I'm an old bee, a stinking old bee. And I was flying yesterday and I was scrolling through and I thought, you know, what I'm going to watch is I'm going to watch Jaws and I watch Jaws on the plane. And I haven't seen Jaws in forever.
Starting point is 00:09:40 And I would give Jaws another watch because I don't know if you've heard, Doug, that's a great movie. And I loved it. I watched it on a plane. I loved it. And I recommend people watch it again for the first time. have you seen this film from Brazil that's nominated for Best Picture called The Secret Agent? That was going to be my recommendation, Doug. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:10:06 All right. I'll think of something else. No. Well, here's why it's crazy. I mean, it's also crazy that Natasha was going to recommend it. But it has, it also takes place in the 70s. And there's several visual and verbal. references to Jaws throughout the film.
Starting point is 00:10:26 I'm looking at the poster right now and I love it. Yeah. I've seen the poster. It's a pretty cool movie and like I said, they really pay tribute to Jaws. So that's your recommendation? It was. I watched it last night actually and I just loved
Starting point is 00:10:44 it so much and it's so funny that you said the Jaws. But yeah, I was going to recommend that movie. I really thought it was refreshing and beautiful and unexpected. It went in a direction that I did not think it was going to go. So that's always a pleasure. Yeah, it's one of those movies there from the very beginning. If you haven't, you know, snooped around and done any, you know, looking into it,
Starting point is 00:11:07 it's really, you just don't know what's going to happen throughout the entire movie. And there's even a whole sequence for you're like, what is happening? That's a very, very interesting experience. and it picked up a few more awards at the Independent Spirit Awards the other day. So who knows what's going to happen. Oscar time. Old Timothy Shalomey might get the rug pulled out from under him. He might get Wagner Morad.
Starting point is 00:11:38 He might get Wagner Morad right in the face. Finally. Finally. Get him. It's time. And Ethan Hawks right there with his great performance in Blue Moon. So it's really, it'll be interesting to see how. it shakes out, but it'll probably go to Timothy.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Timotay. Timotay. You're putting in the accents in the right places. Sean, what would you like to recommend today? I got picked for that SAG nominating committee this year. You did? I did, yeah. So I really saw everything.
Starting point is 00:12:13 That is a real lottery right there because you know how many members there are at SAG, right? No. Thousands? I'm going to say? Yes, hundreds of thousands. And they only picked 2,000 people to be on that committee. I really thought my vote was going to matter, and I feel like it didn't. Well, you know, that's what happens, unfortunately, is you don't necessarily see, you know, what you chose.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Some of the things you voted for got nominated, though, didn't they? Yeah, yeah. Okay, that's good. Did you take some like wild? Did you put some really wild ones in there just to, you know, I did put some wild ones. Hopeful votes. Yeah, I went,
Starting point is 00:12:55 I went William H. Macy and Train Dreams, I thought it was like unreal and no one's given him his love, I feel like. I think that's a great one. That's a great use of your vote and just didn't swing out. Did Train Dreams get nominated for a cast, though? Good question. I don't. I think it might have.
Starting point is 00:13:15 No. I'm not sure. But I'm going to go my pick. I'm going to go a movie from the fall that I, I don't think enough people are talking about, which is Knives Out 3. I thought it was really fun. I thought the cast was on, you know, was clicking. I cried during a part.
Starting point is 00:13:34 I laughed. It was, I thought it was great. Underrated. I like pretty much all those movies, but I think it was really underrated. Yeah, but why doesn't the dead man wake up? You know, I waited the entire film for the dead man to wake up. Yeah, I don't know what's I guess it didn't get a proper theatrical release
Starting point is 00:13:56 Because of the Netflix model of like You know, we'll try to get it awards By showing it a bunch of times in New York and L.A., But, you know, otherwise people have to watch A pretty cinematic experience on your Netflix, you know, on your TV. Like the movie looks really cool. Yeah, and the first one killed it in theaters And I think the other two are just like on Netflix
Starting point is 00:14:17 and I feel like there's less word of mouth that doesn't make sense. Yeah, and it's just less exciting, but I also felt like it was interesting that they campaigned for Sean O'Connor for... Josh O'Connor. Josh O'Connor. Josh O'Connor.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Josh O'Connor, they campaigned for him for a supporting actor, and he's got a bigger part than, you know, Daniel Craig in this movie. And he's very good. He's so charismatic. I really, and then he, I was just talking last week about how then he did the, that movie, the mastermind, and he plays the least charismatic character imaginable. Like the guy's got range.
Starting point is 00:15:02 He's the, he's the Gareth Reynolds of acting. Now, what is that exactly? What does that mean? Because that, that had the cadence of a compliment. I'm a little confused over here, Doug. It was solely a compliment because you're two podcasts. different from each other. Oh, there you go.
Starting point is 00:15:20 You know, it's almost like, is that even the same guy? Is he trying to trick us? Oh, come on. Yeah. Well, thank you, Doug. Sorry, I got a temper. I'm a stinking old day about that sort of stuff. A lot of people also were kind of holding out help for Glenn Close to get some love
Starting point is 00:15:35 and supporting actress because she's always great and has never won an Oscar. Oh, wow. Well, I'll tell you this. She got a Sean Murphy's sag nomination vote. Yeah, that's nice. That's not nothing. Well, it sounds like she's Glenn close to winning it. I'm really sorry.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I apologize. So sorry, Natasha. I could hear that hurting. Sorry. That's okay. Sorry. I forgive you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Thank you. Well, those are the, you know, the recommendations are always terrific, but these are really, these are really good ones that I can confirm that all three of these movies are terrific. I'm less familiar with Jaws than the other two, but they're all really good for based on my memory. You like Jaws. Jaws is extremely, it's more infuriating than ever
Starting point is 00:16:24 when they're arguing about whether or not to shut down the beach because it's the same kind of political argument. It's exactly why I love it. I was like, oh my God. That politician is just like, it might as well be Ted Cruz. Well, they frame that first shark attack
Starting point is 00:16:40 as a boat problem. It's amazing. Yeah, so good. The boat got her. We got a hell out of these boats. Yeah. All right. Well, terrific job, everybody.
Starting point is 00:16:56 We're going to play some games after these commercial messages. We'll be right back. Today's episode is brought to you in part by Shopify. Picture this. Starting point is 00:18:34 Back to the show. We are back. And the first game we're going to play today is the new one, Garrett. Oh, no. Yeah, being old bee doesn't necessarily help. Playing field has been leveled. Yes, immediately. And it's a game that I'm calling,
Starting point is 00:18:53 how many, this many. In this game, you will take turns guessing how many credited actors are in a film that I mention. Gareth, you are up first.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I will name a movie and you'll tell me how many credited actors you think are in that film. If you don't get the exact number correct, Then we'll move on to Natasha. And Natasha will guess. And if Natasha misses it, Sean will guess.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And if all three of you miss it, nobody gets a point. We move on to the next one. This is tough, Doug. That's fine. It might be. We'll see. We'll see how you feel about it when you hear the movie titles as we go along.
Starting point is 00:19:42 So, Gareth, you're up first. The original, the OG. Ridley Scott, Alien. I knew you were going to say that. I don't know. I knew it. I said,
Starting point is 00:19:53 it's going to be alien, and I started thinking through all the characters. Okay. And then what we're just, hold on, while we're just chewing the fat, Natasha, what number did you land out for your answer?
Starting point is 00:20:03 While we're just in the green room. As long as you're chatting pre-show. Yeah, this is all backstage banter. Boy, you know, it's been so long, but I'll say,
Starting point is 00:20:17 eight. Eight is a number of credited actors. Yeah. According to IMDB in the film Alien. Wait, is that, are you saying I'm right? No, I'm just repeating back what you said. Well, now I hear it back. There's like, I don't like it. I don't, but I'm sticking with it. I think you're trying to throw this stinking old B off. It could happen. It could happen. It is incorrect. It is not a number. And it isn't the answer I was going with.
Starting point is 00:20:50 The number is not eight. Natasha has been trying to figure it out. What do you think it is? Well, I don't think the alien is credited. And I think that there is a voice for mother who's probably credited. So I want to say it's nine? Well, did I overshoot? Your logic, the logic didn't, uh, pan.
Starting point is 00:21:17 out but the number is correct. It is nine people credited in alien. There's the seven members of the Nostromo crew. And then Mother. Then they credit alien voice. Oh, he's just guttural.
Starting point is 00:21:33 And then they also credit the voice that you hear on the ship that they call Mother. Mother, yeah. Okay. Okay, great. Yeah. So you did a really good job of figuring that one out. Now you're on the board with one point and you're better than Gareth. Well, I think we all did a great job. Looking back, we all learned some stuff.
Starting point is 00:21:57 We did. There's going to be a lot of learning in this one, I think. But Sean gets to go first in this next round. So, Sean, tell me exactly how many credited actors there are in the motion picture of the board game clue. Ooh. It's got to be just so many. I always feel like I should go over because there's probably just like some voices I'm not thinking of. I'm going to come in at 11.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Okay. 11 credited actors include. Uh-huh. That is incorrect. Wow. Great guess. I was going to go with 11. Well, now you've narrowed it down to not 11. The list is one shorter.
Starting point is 00:23:02 So which direction you want to go with it? Well, 11 felt right. I don't think it's going up. And I want to say 10, but I also kind of want to say 9. I think the listeners, and I have 30 podcasts, I think the listeners, and I have 30 podcasts, I think the listeners love the process talking. Yeah, they do. This is, especially when there's no real reason. I will say, I'll say 10.
Starting point is 00:23:34 You're going 10 cast members and clue. That's the one. That get credit for their trouble. That's the game, yep. Incorrect. Sucks. Huh. Where does that leave?
Starting point is 00:23:50 Natasha. I don't know. I guess I'll go the other way. Is it like 14? No, it is not 14. But everyone was so close because it's 13. 13 people. You got the six game characters, you know, the Mr. and Mrs. and what's nuts. And then you've got Tim Curry is Wadsworth. And then you have Mr. Body. Got a have a body, of course. And then there are cops, a police chief, and a door-to-door singing telegram girl. Of course. Of course. Yeah. So 13 characters include way more than necessary, considering the game has six. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:37 But nobody got a point for that one. So we go back to Sean for our next one. Being the anchor is really tough. Tough. I did it once, and it was brutal. Yeah. It's hard to, hard to start off. But if you, you know, if you nail it, if you just happen to land on that right number,
Starting point is 00:24:54 nobody else gets to guess. So, Sean, the movie is the classic John Hughes high school detention flick, The Breakfast Club. Oh, man, it's so it's been a while. I think we got six kids, I want to say. We got the principal. And I'm just going to throw two rounds. And I'm going to go, I'm going to go nine.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Okay. I don't know how to make this, you know, more suspenseful. You're doing pretty good, honestly. Okay, good. We don't have any fun like, you know, suspense music or anything, but that answer is incorrect. Okay. That's a great answer.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Gareth, you're going to need to come up with a, the number that is not the same number, Sean just said. Well, I do think it's been a while, but there's something Hughesian about just making it those core, but I guess he probably doesn't have that pull. There's definitely some parents, you know, obviously. So I'll, I guess I'll give it a little bit of a jump, and I'll go
Starting point is 00:26:22 12 also wrong now there was no suspense there yeah I just like a slap just slapped you right across the face of it but I you know you you really
Starting point is 00:26:42 it took you a long time to say the number is that a complication I was ready to say wrong no matter what that it just came out This is what the treatment is thinking old begins. I used to run this show. Natasha, you can be busted out way into the lead here if you can get this one. Gosh, I really don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:05 I'm just going to go for it and say 16. Do you know the film or you? I do. It's been a long time and I can't really. I'm mixing it in my head with Pretty and Pink. And so I'm trying to think about how much time they spend in classrooms. and I feel like there's more people in the movie than just the kids. Yeah, you might be just like thinking about, like you said,
Starting point is 00:27:30 some other John Hughes movies and more populated. Is it just them most of the time? Well, I can't tell you with that. I mean, you've landed on 16 is your answer? No, that's crazy, isn't it? Can I rescind it? That doesn't make any sense. Can I rescind mine?
Starting point is 00:27:46 I mean, I'm going to be wrong. I'm not going to get it. Eight. Okay, that's the wrong two. All right. But that was fun. There's the five kids get detention, and they're the breakfast club, even though breakfast is not eaten.
Starting point is 00:28:03 You know, Bollywood has sushi, but that doesn't count. And then there's a janitor who comes in and is weird and supportive. And then there's the principal who's a mean, a whole, and six different parents. get credit for the very brief drop-off and pick up scenes at the beginning and the end. But John Hughes does not get credit even though he does play one of their parents. He's Anthony Michael Hall's father, but he does not get credit for it. So 13 credited actors in the Breakfast Club. This game has turned out to be way more exciting than I thought it would be.
Starting point is 00:28:43 It's tough. This is a tough game. Yeah. But also it's doable. and John gets the first guess on this next one. I'm sure I'm going to nail this one. It's another classic, but who knows how many people are in it,
Starting point is 00:28:57 the film My Dinner with Andre. Wow. I got to think two is wrong, but I kind of want to say too. I'm going to say, God, I'm going to say, I'm going to go five. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:29:22 I'm adding three because I'm, I'm so spun around now. I forgot there was only five kids and breakfast club. I'm all over the place. I'm going to go with five. Five credited actors in my dinner with Andre, the story of a man having dinner with Andre. Five is incorrect. Ah.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Hmm. I'm ready to say wrong. Yeah. Why don't you just say wrong and move on, Doug? God, I want to say two, but it can't be. I'll just Price is right Sean on this
Starting point is 00:30:08 and I'll say I'll say four. Correct. Oh, man. Yes. Four people. Wallace Sean is having dinner with Andre Gregory.
Starting point is 00:30:27 And the two people that speak to them during their meal, the waiter and the bartender. Right. Oh. Yeah. The staff. If you will. And I will. Wow.
Starting point is 00:30:40 That felt good. Great job. That's it. We're back to Natasha. I have a challenger. Yeah. You are the winner. If you don't, Sean has a chance to press a three-way tie,
Starting point is 00:30:55 but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The movie is called All Is Lost. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I think it's one. I think it's just Robert Redford. You think that the entire film, the only credited performer in it,
Starting point is 00:31:14 is Robert Redford. I mean, that seems crazy. No, there's got to at least be like a phone call or something. Let's say two. I'm going to go with two. You're going to go with two people in All Is Lost starring Robert Rattrow. Yeah, let's do it. That is wrong.
Starting point is 00:31:35 John? I'm going to go one. I mean, all these movies are tough because I've seen them all, but you don't know if there's just like one scene where he's like, you know, talking on the phone with his mom or something. Yeah. I'm going to go one. I'm the lock in one.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Well, you figured it out. You crack the code because astonishingly, there's no reason for anybody else to speak in the entirety of all his loss. It's just Robbie Red. Wow. So, Sean is on the board, and we have my excitement a three-way tie. Oh, man. So here's how we're going to settle this.
Starting point is 00:32:14 I'm going to give you one more title. Gareth is going to tell me how many people he thinks is in it Then Natasha is going to give me a number And then Sean's going to give me a number This is a lot like the other part of this game The one of you is closest without going over Okay Because this is no this is no
Starting point is 00:32:36 Be conservative movie I'm about to say Okay, all right This is going to be tougher You imagine if I was like The birth of the nation. Four thousand. Those are mostly extras, I guess. The Wizard of Oz.
Starting point is 00:32:55 No, the title sticking with John Hughes movies, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. How many credited actors does Ferris fuck with during that legendary day? Okay. Pardon me. Well, I'll just talk out real quick. and be wrong. Mom, dad,
Starting point is 00:33:18 Ferris, Jennifer Gray, Charlie Sheen for sure. I haven't even been counting these, which is a big problem. So, Cameron, God,
Starting point is 00:33:34 the valet. This is going to be nuts. I'm going to, he really hang. I mean, part of the charm of the movie, just while we're peeling back the curtain, he interacts with a lot of people. Yeah, the whole setting.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Yeah. He's running around. Abe Roman. Yeah. I'll say it's the not going over that's very vexing. I'll say, I'll say 19. Okay. Natasha, what's your number?
Starting point is 00:34:08 I'm going to say 22. Okay. I'm going to say 24. Oh, you're like adding a dollar like they do on prices right. Yeah, it's probably better games on ship to say 23, but I actually wrote down 24 right after you said the question. So I'm going to stick with them. Are we allowed to have pens?
Starting point is 00:34:31 Your honest answer. What was the question, Gareth? I just didn't know we could write stuff down and have pens, Doug. So that's news probably would have helped my earlier stuff. I'm a stinking oldie. I try to run the most Luddite. podcast possible. So I would have, if I had known Sean had a pen, I might have reconsidered booking
Starting point is 00:34:54 me. Okay. Thank you. But there really is no explicit rule. This is normally a pen-free household, but I found one. And as it turns out, that pen really worked out. It came in handy. So you're able to remember that number 24 because without going over, 24 is the closest
Starting point is 00:35:17 to the correct answer. And that answer is 44. Holy shit. Yeah. They talk to a lot of people. He celebrates the day off. At school all day long, they're talking about him in his absence.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Oh, Christy Swanson, Ben Stein. Exactly. Bueller. Yeah. So there's quite a few people have something to say. That's extraordinary. In that one.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Yeah. What a nightmare. The SAG paperwork alone. Oh, yeah. No, it was a pretty full of lots of small roles. No small actors. No.
Starting point is 00:36:01 My friends, the funny boys, a comedy duo of the time. Oh, they're both in it. Yeah. Jim Vallily. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Jonathan Schmock. Yeah. I love Jimmy. Yeah. He's great. All right. Well, congratulations, Sean. You won that game, and that means you get to go first in our next game that we will play right after this break.
Starting point is 00:36:27 We'll be right back. We are back, and Sean is in the Catford seat, the pole position. He's first in our second and final game today, which is called the Little Search Engine That Could. This game is It involves a word I typed into the internet movie database today Into their search engine And then I wrote down the top 10 movies
Starting point is 00:37:01 In popularity according to their algo With that word in the title So I'm going to tell you the word And take turns guessing movies you think might be in the top 10. If it's number one, you get 10 points. If it's number 10, you get one point. And then there's all those points in between.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Sean is going to get to go first, as advertised, followed by Natasha, then Gareth. You'll each get three guesses total. So, you know, think ahead as you hear other titles and figure out what you think might land harder. And the word, it already came up earlier in the show in honor of one of my favorite films of last year, starring William H. Macy, Train Dreams. The word is train. Lots of movies have had the word train in the title, but which ones are in the top 10 on the search engine this very day?
Starting point is 00:38:09 Sean, you're up first. What's your first train movie? There's no way this can be high, but I'm just going to go with my first instinct. The first thing that popped into my mind, which is throw mama from the train. That's so great. Nice dramatic pause there.
Starting point is 00:38:32 Owen, no, Owen. It is so funny when she calls Billy Crystal a black bastard. because he just goes what like he doesn't what do you even say to Matt that woman yeah she's she had a really she had like a three or four film run there that was pretty amazing her agents are like
Starting point is 00:38:57 look we don't know what's happening the goodies throw them off from the train the one deadly friend where someone throws a basketball on her face and it explodes that's a clip worth looking for if we have the opportunity
Starting point is 00:39:15 but I am sorry to report Sean throw Mama from the street for whatever reason was not being searched today and did not make the I mean it is a terrible guess but it's the prototypical train movie it is one of the best it's probably the best train title out there
Starting point is 00:39:36 but now we go to Tasha for Natasha's first guess. So it's popular today. I'm going to go with How to Train Your Dragon. Oh, that's a real guess. That's a real good guess right there. Well, there's a follow-up question to this one, Natasha.
Starting point is 00:39:57 The animated or the live action? More specifically, the year. Are you talking the How to Train Your Dragon from 2010 or 2025. I guess I'm going to go with 2025 since it's today's search, but I might regret it because of the original one. I'll go to 25. How to train your dragon, you know, quote unquote live action,
Starting point is 00:40:24 even though dragons aren't live action ever. From 2025 is number three on the list. So the tosses on the board with eight points. That makes sense considering there is a place at Disney for that movie and not to throw Mama from the train. I'm going to jump in here. We're not going to keep shaming that guess because that's a great movie and a great guess. And would also make a great amusement park ride. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Universal City. Oh, you stupid poop. If they just repurpose the Fast and Furious ride for. That would be so good. Now, that's a park I want to go to. Yeah, same. All right, Gareth. Number one and number two are still out there.
Starting point is 00:41:18 But any points at all would be good for you at this time. I mean, I don't care for that lead in. But I will stick with John Hughes. And I will say planes, trains, and automobiles. I was so hoping you'd say curly sue after that. Let's do curly sue. Plades, trades in automobiles, the undisputed favorite Thanksgiving movie of all time is number eight on the list. People still looking for it in February.
Starting point is 00:41:56 And that gives you, Gareth, three. I'll take it. Yeah, three more than Sean. I'll tell you that. Oh, feels good. How to Throw Your Mama from the Train, too? Oh, yeah. Keep pushing.
Starting point is 00:42:10 I like how you change it to how to throw your mom. I keep adding words to it. Because if it's not a tutorial, why are we bothering? People are tired of demanding titles. They want ones that are going to teach me something. What's your second guest, Sean? I'm going to go Training Day. Well, that, how fun is that?
Starting point is 00:42:35 because that the word train is in the word training it's fun and then there's another word day it's pretty fun that's what I was thinking yeah so it's all pretty it's not throw mama from the train fun but nothing will be but training day also could be a great Disneyland
Starting point is 00:42:56 attraction oh my god King Kong ain't got nothing on me well there you go universal we're back to Universal if it's King Kong but I was the tour guide when they had the physical King Kong where you pull into the sound stage and he grabs the fake
Starting point is 00:43:14 bridge Iran and shakes it around and he breathes I had to smell his banana breath two or three times a day which it wasn't terrible but a real King Kong I bet you it doesn't it just isn't the pleasant smell of bananas there's also a lot of giant reptiles and stuff that he ate. Yeah. He's a monster.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Yeah, he absolutely is. Without question. That is not for nature. He's just entirely too big for a monkey, for sure. Way big. Yeah. No, the regular size monkeys can tear you limb from limb. Right.
Starting point is 00:43:53 No reason to make a bigger one. Yeah. No, the damage. Go ahead. I mean, I do a lot of charity work with people who have been affected by King Con. the Broadway musical yeah exactly
Starting point is 00:44:05 it's really traumatized a lot of people a lot of people have been very upset because it really feels like he's going to come at you
Starting point is 00:44:11 and you're like whoa I didn't know I was going to attack my jacket yeah that's right so I'll this talk
Starting point is 00:44:19 is just because I feel so bad for you uh training day did not make the list no way yeah
Starting point is 00:44:25 I just worry that's surprising you know it's just people aren't uh keeping up with training day like they used to. But they should be.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Natasha, you want to add some more points to your score? Well, now I'm doubting myself because I would have thought training day would be way up there. I was going to, I was thinking like, okay, I'm DB. Maybe it's like movie nerds. They would be looking up train spotting. But now I doubt myself. But I'm still curious if it's on the list. So my guess is train spotting.
Starting point is 00:44:56 That's the trouble is curiosity shouldn't play a factor in, uh, The guess. In great guesses, because the train spotting also did not make. Wow. That's crazy. Yeah. That's crazy. It's so crazy.
Starting point is 00:45:11 But, you know, they only had room for 10. I only wrote down the top 10. And Gareth, you got to sniff another one out somehow. Well, that's tough to hear because a train spotting I just figured would be on there. I am. Well, then I'm just. trying to think of the most recent train movie I can think of
Starting point is 00:45:34 is bullet train oh smart but I don't but it's not like people love that movie so but I would say but bad bunny so maybe so I'll say bullet train you know I hadn't even thought of that that's not a good sign
Starting point is 00:45:52 the searches because of all the recent love and oh it was all I didn't watch the half time I did I'm a TPS USA guy so but but I heard he performed an event. Benita Bowl. That's right.
Starting point is 00:46:06 That's right. Imagine if the NFL just said, we're changing the time, the name of it. The Benita Bowl, henceforth, and he's going to be resident artists.
Starting point is 00:46:19 That's my, that is my dream for him to have a residency half time. A new tribute to Puerto Rico every year. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:29 They'll add a team, in Puerto Rico. An NFL, get their own NFL team. That's what Bunny should have like been campaigning for. Bunny. That would do a lot for them. Doug knows him. Mr. Bunny. It's funny to Doug.
Starting point is 00:46:44 Yeah, I usually call him BB, but that seems even too too much. Yeah. Too familiar. But speaking of BBs and bullet trains, number
Starting point is 00:46:58 two on the list. Whoa. Oh, wow. Yeah, totally. Nice grab, Gareth. That's with nine more points. Whoa. For you.
Starting point is 00:47:08 So you have 12 points. So, Sean, I'm sorry to say that the lead is insurmountable. Okay. I think you got it. But you can do it. But you can still have some fun and get, you know, put some points on the board. Or this is another thing. I applaud it when it happens when someone says three perfectly good answers and none of them
Starting point is 00:47:29 makes it up. That's impressive kind of in and of itself. In its own way, yeah. Is number one still on the board? Number one is still available. So it probably feel pretty good if you name that. It wouldn't be enough points for you to win, but it would put you in second place for now
Starting point is 00:47:49 if you name that number one movie. Well, I got to think it's on the board. I'm going to go How to Train Your Dragon Original Edition. Well, it's funny. you should say that because I was surprised no one else went for that considering I did ask Natasha to name the you know pick between the two years yeah which might have suggested that I definitely needed to know in order to but I was so proud of training day I know I would have gone with training day too same to know about train spotting I want to know if it's still there but
Starting point is 00:48:25 the other how to train your dragon from 2010 is number one. Four on the list. So Sond gets a fun seven points added to his score, so he doesn't walk away empty-handed. And it was a great, great first appearance on the show. Natasha, if you get that number one, you win, if you get number five, six, or seven, you win. The only ones that won't help you, you're number nine and ten, and there's no way you're going to say, either of those.
Starting point is 00:49:02 I'm looking at them. I know what they are and I don't think anybody would say them. Okay. Well, can I say train dreams? You can. I announced at the beginning that the whole game was in honor of train dreams. So, you know, it's up to you if you want to pick it. Yes, I'm going to pick train dreams.
Starting point is 00:49:23 Number one. Oh. Well, it was right there. All you had to do is say it, Gareth. Is nine or ten trained to Boussong, the Korean movie? We don't have to reveal everything yet because Gareth still has a chance. Oh, he's still going. I'm still here, Natasha.
Starting point is 00:49:43 Sorry. You have 18 points, Natasha. So Gareth has 12 points. So he needs seven or more. Oh, no, he can't win. Doug, can you just milk it, babe? Trust me, I got nine podcasts. I wanted to milk it so bad, but even number five would only give you six points, and then that would be, oh, that'd be a tie.
Starting point is 00:50:07 So you do, okay, you have a chance to tie it up here with- Even if you're faking, what a save. Yeah, I'm not faking. This is your chance to tie it up if you can name the number five movie. Well, unfortunately, the only one I could think of has already been said, and I doubt it is number five. But train to Busan was the only other out of, after that, I, I'm out of train one, so I'll say train to Busan. Number five on the list. Yeah, it's a popular movie.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Yes, very popular. Great movie. So that's where it's six more points. And so that means we have a tie between Perth and Natasha with 18 points apiece. So to settle this tie, there's still four more titles. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:50:58 Oh, God. With the word train. And throw mama from the train's not even up. Yeah, throw mama from the train, it's not on there. And I will give you a clue. I'll give you two. Yeah, I'll give you a clue. Two of the four remaining titles include the word the.
Starting point is 00:51:24 So Natasha, you're in first. the person to name any movie that's in these the remaining four options will be our winner this is like the Super Bowl the train oh the girl on the train the girl on the train oh wow good pull well done the girl is that the name of that movie yeah no is it just girl on a train i was going to say you know since i gave you know a clue before you went and then and then gareth still had to go i was going to I was in my mind, I was like, I'll still give Gareth one more guess after Natasha's guess. But your guest, Natasha, is number six on the list. No way. Wow. It's worth five more points. So now we're back to it's your moutable lead.
Starting point is 00:52:17 And congratulations. Wow. I don't even get to say anything, Natasha. You're the winner today. I mean, you can say something if you want. Well, I just, once again, like to defend Shepard. John's honor and throw mama from the train. I mean, that is a classic movie.
Starting point is 00:52:32 More people should watch. You get it higher on the idea. Yeah, the girl on the train was not like a great movie. So I think Thore Mama should take girls' place. That was a Netflix thing, right? That the girl on the train. Yeah, I don't know. And they made a whole series that was a parody of it with Kristen Bell called the
Starting point is 00:52:52 Girl in the Window or something. Right. Oh, wow. Yeah. But congratulations, Natasha. You get to do, since you won, before I give the rest of the results of this game, I know people are dying to know these other train movies. Let's go ahead and do your plugs. Your film is out this week, Friday, Thursday night, previews and selected theaters.
Starting point is 00:53:15 Friday, VOD everywhere. Yes, sir. It's called The Dreadful. It's called The Dreadful. Check it out. See it in a theater if you can. We put a lot of love and energy and care into making it like a really, sort of sumptuous visual feast.
Starting point is 00:53:31 So try and see it in the theater if you can or if you're seeing it at home, make sure your motion smoothing is off. Okay. That's a great tip. I appreciate that. Please. Volume up, motion smoothing off.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Well, thank you so much for that and for doing the show today. And I look forward to seeing the film this weekend. And here are the rest of the results from today. Number 10, remember I said you wouldn't get number 10 or number nine.
Starting point is 00:54:03 Number 10 was from 1964 starring Bert Lancaster, simply the train. Oh, what? Sounds like one of those, like the first ever silent movie, I think was something about a train. And then number nine, we go back to 1951 in Alfred Hitchcock's strangers. Of course. Yeah, these games are always there.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Everybody's just kicking themselves. Like, of course I should have said that. Because then also, kind of under everybody's noses, but it didn't get said. Number seven was how to train your dragon two. They made two of the animated ones before they went back and did the live action one. I think they made three. Three of them, yeah, maybe, yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Yeah, three of them. But number two is number seven. and then you know all the rest from earlier. Gareth Reynolds, what are you, tell us about your movie again. Oh, one more time. It's called Give It Up. It is a darkish comedy, fun time about a comedian
Starting point is 00:55:13 trying to go back out on the road for the first time in 10 years and seeing how big of a nightmare it is. We're at the CineQuest Film Festival. We have a few screenings if you can't make the one on March 15th, but we're really trying to get people that one. So go to Give It Upfilm.com. You can watch the previews on my Instagram at Reynolds Gareth.
Starting point is 00:55:30 And then listen to, we're here to help, the dollop. And next we have. And I'll have another couple more podcasts by the time I'm back. One may be about a train. I'm inspired. That's not a terrible idea. Yes, it is. Just get on a train and start podcasting.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Absolutely. See what happens. It's content, Doug. Thank you for having me. Although, I've got a name for you already, too. Let's go. Train nightmares. Ah, yes.
Starting point is 00:56:01 Yes. Sean, tell us what, whatever you'd like to plug at this time. Yes, I have a new special. It's called Long Story Thin. It's on Mark Norman's YouTube page,
Starting point is 00:56:13 filmed at the comedy seller. It's funny. It's a nice, brisk, 42 minutes. Please watch that. And follow me on Instagram. I am Sean Murphy.
Starting point is 00:56:24 I need followers, so I could avoid the fate of Gareth's movie character. And yeah, and I'm adding Gareth and Natasha's movies to my list. And thanks for having me. Well, you know, we know how important it is to get on your list, Sean. And for those... Biggest list of the year, Doug.
Starting point is 00:56:44 When you go to look it up, it's spelled S-H-A-U-N. That's true. None of that W business. Yeah, get them out of here. No that EA's out of here, too. at EA either. That one, boy, that one throws everybody off. Speaking of Game of Thrones,
Starting point is 00:57:00 who likes Gene Bean. Who likes Gene Bean? Show some respect on that, Sean. For sure. All right, and I'm going to be doing a Benson movie interruption at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 3rd. I'll be doing
Starting point is 00:57:17 stand-up at the punchline in Houston, March 6th, and 7th, and Douglas' movies, and my stand-up were both coming to the two Zanis in the Chicago land area would be doing stand-up in Chicago on May the Fourth Be With You, and Doug Loves Movies at the Rosemont Zanis location on Cinco, DiMayo, and all of my dates and deeds and links are at Douglasmovies.com. Natasha, as our winner today, you get to determine,
Starting point is 00:57:49 my closing line today is every episode I call it. somebody a shithead. So who out there in the world or what thing or person would you like me to call a shithead today? You know what? I'm going to go with no one. Let's spread a little love. Oh, I love that.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Yeah. No one is a shithead. You know, I stopped doing the shithead thing for a long time and then people out there were just reaching out to me and saying it's time to bring it back because there's so many shitheads out there. And they're somehow in control
Starting point is 00:58:23 of our existence. So yeah, yeah. That's a very nice. I appreciate that answer. That's like one of those answers that would happen at the end of the movie and then you'd get a car or something. You'd win something for us.
Starting point is 00:58:37 I'm in the chocolate factory. Yes, exactly. Trained. Just because you're so gentle of soul. God bless us, everyone. Exactly. Thank you once again to Garrett Reynolds, Natasha Cermone,
Starting point is 00:58:52 and Sean. Murphy, as always, no one is a shithead. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Eyes of gold is viewing prowess makes him cocky. There's no room in his heart for you because Doug.
