Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 acid pop more kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies recording on Sunday, November 9th, 2025. and even though we're doing this over Zoom, me and my guests are all in New York City. I'm very excited about Tuesday nights Doug Lowe's movies at the loft at City Winery.
Starting point is 00:00:41 If you're listening to the show, the day it comes out, that'll be tomorrow night. But I'm also excited about my guests today. Norman Baker, Anna Royceman, and Justin Thompson. Hello. Hey, Doug. Let's meet them individually and alphabetically by first name. She is hilarious as hilarious and other goofball characters.
Starting point is 00:01:10 It's Anna Royceman. Hi. Hi. Oh, my God, I missed this show. I'm so happy to be back. That's good to have you back. And I know you see a lot of New York theater. And this isn't Doug loves me.
Starting point is 00:01:25 musicals, but nonetheless, I got to go. I'm sorry. I thought this was Doug. Douglas Broadway now. No, it's not, but he does. So what's your favorite show you've seen lately? I mean, I'm on a high from seeing Bat Boy the other day. Well, I saw you posted the program, and I saw Bat Boy as well, and I loved it. Loved it. I hope they get a run because it was just like a two-week, you know, thing. Yeah. No, it's so good. Yeah, it's really good. And it's, it's done like anybody listening right now, you missed it. Yeah, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:02:02 I was looking more like for like, you know, something that people can actually go see, but I do, I do appreciate your love of Bat Boy because it's a, you know, it's an old show that the New York City Center revived in a, usually their shows are like a lot of people
Starting point is 00:02:18 standing around holding notebooks because it's like limited rehearsal and a limited run. But this one is like, full-blown production pretty much. And it's ripe for a transfer to Broadway or even an off-Broadway house. I think it's an excellent, like, off-Broadway show, too. Totally. And for people to go see a show, go see O'Mary if you haven't seen it yet.
Starting point is 00:02:39 It's one of my caves. I've seen a bunch. It's so good. How many Marys have you seen? I've seen two Marys, but I really want to see Jane Crickowski. I love her. I know, me too, but she's looked at the prices. Like, it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:02:53 you have to try to do a lottery or something I have a tip I have a tip are you ready for it yes please okay and this is what I did for for a lot of shows lately but you go like plan on going to the show and then you buy a stub hub ticket like five minutes before the show they go down or like two minutes in I saw mama Mia I bought the ticket at 805 show started 807 I paid $99 it was an amazing seat so just just a tip wow all right Freaking stub hub. I'm scamming the systems. Love it. Well, I mean, that's what it's there for, right? It's like they would just want to get butts in the seats, you know, and last minute they got to, you know, they got to settle. Totally.
Starting point is 00:03:36 You know, it's not making anybody any money if it's an empty seat. It's making the person sitting behind it happy, but that's all. Yeah. Well, thank you for being here. Our next guest, we first met down south. He's a Yankee comedy boy. It's Justin Thompson. Hey, Justin.
Starting point is 00:03:58 How do y'all? Hey, Doug. How are you doing? Good to be here. Thank you for having me. You're a returning champ to the show. You're not just any guest. You're coming in a winner.
Starting point is 00:04:11 And am I leaving a winner or a loser? We'll find out. We are going to find out. That's the $64,000 question. What's your favorite musical, Justin? well you know I'm not a big musical guy I didn't think so but I like singing in the rain you know I've seen that that's good singing in the rain is amazing like it's that's top tier
Starting point is 00:04:37 you know film musical I saw a stage version of it where they just basically reenacted the movie and somehow it lost its luster a little bit but but the movie remains a classic yes also phantom pretty great in my book but you know yeah i mean you're so familiar with it you just say you say it like a real theater and a phantom you know it's the only bother with the whole title who has time we don't my third guest today is the dude this is so exciting i worked with him at v h1's best week ever in like 2004 and now uh he's working at the behind the scenes at Sherry Shepard's show, Sherry.
Starting point is 00:05:26 It's Norman Baker. Hey, Norma. Hey, hey, Doug. How are you? I'm so excited for this. This is so great. What's your official title at Sherry? I am supervising producer there, and I oversee the first, like, the first act, which is basically the monologue. Right, and I saw one recently where she got you on camera to, to, to fact check her and then once you fact checked her she just disagreed with that fact and moved on she was like i have my facts you have yours norman you're like yeah google or whatever right we agree to disagree on fact yeah that's where we're at these days you know that's you probably got that from all these politicians just like what you heard me say and what happened
Starting point is 00:06:16 didn't happen and i didn't say it uh right now i don't use you're like probably have pretty crazy hours or does this lean more towards you have to really be there early in the morning to get that first section ready yeah we go live at 10 a.m so I wake up at every day at 5 a.m. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. It's a rough schedule. See I wake up at 10 a.m. I better tune in. Yeah. Great. Set an alarm. I go to bed at 5 a.m. I can't wait. We'll pass each other. Wait, so, when you say you get up at five, does that mean you have kind of a routine at home before you go in or you rush out the door at five?
Starting point is 00:07:03 I have a routine at home. Like, I put on, like, overnight news, and I look up TMZ and Daily Mail, the leading source for the Sherry Shepherd show. And just kind of start to come up with things that I think she'll enjoy and have funny things. things to say about. Yeah, and then you have to, like, you know, guide her through it because in a lot of cases, she's probably not familiar with the pop culture people to hear. Right, exactly. Right.
Starting point is 00:07:35 There's a, it's explained the ABCs of the Kardashians every day. And, of course, you were there, you worked with, on the Wendy show, where you must have been there when she said, Dulapeep. I was there. And I'm part of that. That's like part of my legacy is that I corrected her on air. So until the end of time, I'm on TikTok saying, no, do a peep is do a leaper. That is so iconic that moment in time.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Oh, my God. It's like the only way like my nieces and nephews get to see me is through that clip on TikTok. Well, I love it. And thank you for joining us. on your day off and you're probably going to hit the sack right when we're done right? Hit the sack, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:29 What do you, on special occasions, like for certain things, will you stay out later? Like, do you go see any Broadway shows on like a school night, so to speak? Sometimes I'll hit like a Thursday night show or you know, usually I keep it to
Starting point is 00:08:45 Fridays and Saturdays, but most of the time I have to be in bed pretty early. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I do see shows. I do. I've seen O. Mary. I've seen one Mary. Which one did you see? I saw O.G. Mary. Yeah. Ella. Yeah. I'm hoping there's going to be, there's got to be like a pro shot someday of Colescola doing it, right? It's got to be. I hope so. Gotta be. Because like it's just all these people coming into the show are all amazing and doing a great job.
Starting point is 00:09:15 But it's still the, the, the, the, everything's based off of that original. performance so i would love to see it sometime because i didn't you know didn't get to see call when uh when they were in it all right well before we play some games today i'd like each one of you to visit recommendation nation and uh just recommend one movie it could be old new borrowed blue any any movie but just one we'll start with you anna what would you like to recommend any movie you know You think people should see it
Starting point is 00:09:53 You think people will get something out of it I've been on my Diane Keaton rewatch train I like it I'm going to recommend something's got to give If you haven't seen it
Starting point is 00:10:06 Don't don't Don't go further Just go watch it It's my favorite Shut off this podcast And go watch Something's got to give It's so good
Starting point is 00:10:18 You know It holds up Yeah, and it's, you know, it's got some semi-dramatic moments, but it's mostly a fairly wacky comedy, and she straight up got nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for it. And, you know, it's got one of Keanu Reeves' most natural performances. He's so good in it. There's nothing I dislike about that movie. I love old people rom-coms, and that movie delivers, like, more than any of them.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Yeah, it's really. clear that they're old. They're like, can he have sex? He might have a heart attack. Yeah, like every five minutes. Yeah, that's all. They're either talking about that or how beautiful everything looks in like her amazing kitchen. Like characters in the
Starting point is 00:11:09 what's the name of the director of that movie? Nancy Myers. Nancy Byers. Especially it's complicated. It's just they might as well have things pop up in the screen telling you where you can buy the different things in that beautiful kitchen yeah but something's got to give that's a good a good wreck thank you just top that all right recommendation nation i will second uh something's got to give i watched that recently and i loved it whoa but my pick you know i'm gonna go wait wait wait wait we got Backup, back up. You watched it recently
Starting point is 00:11:49 because your wife washed it? Well, yeah, sure. Why can't Justin just love Nancy Myers? I don't understand that assumption. I just had a guess that they watched it together. But, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:05 obviously she didn't have to twist your arm because within minutes you were like, oh, this is fun, this is good. Yeah, and just cracking up at how insane Jack Milliken looks and like how gross and filthy is and you know
Starting point is 00:12:21 but he's charming you know but my pick if um prisoners for real any villain yeah is anyone able to say his name
Starting point is 00:12:36 Villain no Bill Nud yeah real dude excellent yeah I'm also much good a blue dude.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Deneve, Illinois. Yeah, great movie. Brutal. Totally, totally very similar to something's got to give. Great double bill. Yeah, a lot of fun. Something for everybody.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Yeah, I hadn't seen that. Watched that for the first time. I don't know. If people haven't seen it, check it out. You watch that one alone? Half and half. You know, the wife kind of checked out
Starting point is 00:13:14 some way in the middle of that movie the wife took a flyer on that one yeah yeah it's very intense and also like you know tortury
Starting point is 00:13:29 like it's got like behavior that it's very horrifying exactly yeah it's brutal I don't condone the behavior the subject matter
Starting point is 00:13:41 but great performances It was, you know, I'm going to put this on. It'll be a light watch before going to bed and then, you know, end up watching the whole thing and having scary dreams. People should save it for Christmas is what I say. Mm-hmm. Yeah, gather the whole family.
Starting point is 00:13:56 There's no reason to have a happy Christmas this year. When you're feeling like a prisoner at your in-laws house. Put that on to get everybody to leave the room. Everybody go outside. I'm watching prisoners. All right, Norman, what's your pick? All right, my pick. I recently, first of all, I have a subscription to movie,
Starting point is 00:14:22 which is like all these like independent movies or whatever. Yeah. But so I just recently saw a movie on Mooby called Lurker. I don't know if you've ever heard of it. I've seen it. You've seen it, isn't it? Did you love it? I love this movie so much.
Starting point is 00:14:40 It's really, it takes you off guard. Because I really did, I had no expectations really, you know, and especially in the first few minutes, you're kind of like, oh, is this going to be any good? And then it's pretty compelling all the way through. It is. It's about a fan who somehow works his way into kind of like a mid-level pop stars, like, entourage. And he kind of becomes more and more obsessed. And then it gets darker and darker. Ooh, I want to watch this. It kind of sounds like it probably reminds you of your situation with Sherry. It's exactly like that.
Starting point is 00:15:22 You wormed your way in there. Have you recommended it to her yet? She should never see it. I don't think, yeah, you don't want to give her any ideas that you're probably being really shifty and behind the scene.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Didn't she like accuse you of something like that you were doing that she didn't like. On the air, we have this running bit that I, like, steal things in the office. And I ate her sandwich out of the fridge. But you did it for a joke? Yeah, it was just a bit. It was just a bit on the film.
Starting point is 00:16:01 That's like college roommate drama right there. Right. Yeah, I don't think I was, it didn't feel like something you would do, especially the absolute boss of the whole thing is the sandwich and why would the host sandwich be in the office bridge
Starting point is 00:16:18 well what kind of sandwich are we talking about it here you know this important detail right it's I think it was like a BLT kind of thing I've already forgot what movie you recommended oh Lurker
Starting point is 00:16:37 oh right I was going to say stalker. That's my biopic. But liquor is fantastic. I love it. Yeah, the performances are really good. And it definitely snuck up on me. Because I just went because I heard it was good.
Starting point is 00:16:56 I didn't know anything. I went in pretty blind. All right. Well, those are some, you know, different levels of joy and fun in those. films maybe like work your way up to prisoners you know like something's got to give lurker and then prisoner and uh we got to take our first break but we will play some games after this today's episode is brought to you in part by shopify but the origins of douglas movies were once but a dream and that dream turned into the podcast and business you are listening to

Starting point is 00:19:04 Back to the show. are back and the first game that we're going to play today is called That's Fantastic. It's named after the fantastic annual genre film festival that happens every year in September at the Alamo draft house in Austin, Texas, hashtag not an ad. And I in this game will name a movie with a crazy, the fantastical title and then I will name two actors
Starting point is 00:19:43 and whoever's turn it is has to either guess you know that's got one of the actors or the other in it or neither so your guess will be the first name the second name or neither and we'll start with
Starting point is 00:19:59 Anna and the first person to get these are pretty tough but it is also a guess so Justin's could be the first one to tell you that guessing can work. It'll take you all the way to the gold. Take you all the way to the gold if you guess right.
Starting point is 00:20:18 I said we're starting with Anna. Yeah, the first one to get two of these right. If anybody gets two of these right, it will be the winner. Are you ready, Anna? I'm so ready. Brace yourself. There's a movie
Starting point is 00:20:32 called Disco Godfather. Does it have in it Gary Busey, Forrest Whittaker, or neither? I'm going to go with Gary Busey. You like Gary Bucy for the Disco Godfather? Honestly, I see it. I'm seeing it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but the answer is neither. Oh, that was my first guess. Sometimes you got to go with your first guess. My gut, yeah. But, you know, in this game, you can go all the way up to your third guess. It's really up to you. But unfortunately, you missed that one.
Starting point is 00:21:16 And I've got no further information to share about Disco Godfather. Okay. Other than the fact that it exists. And I'm a little bit intrigued. All right, Justin, here's your first title. The Ghost in the Invisible Bekin. so basically just totally invisible right the ghost is invisible and then the clothes are i don't get the point of it uh did that movie feature norman fell from threeth company
Starting point is 00:21:57 don nods from andy griffith or neither the ghost in the invisible bikini I'm going to go Donnie Knott's on this one. You like Don Nott's? He makes a laugh. He's great. I always love Don Nott's and I love, there's a scene in John Waters' serial mom that's like at like a swap meet, indoor swap me. And somebody just holds up a really terrible looking painting of Don Nots
Starting point is 00:22:26 and just goes, fucking Don Nott's. And that's the whole joke. It makes me laugh every time. No, the answer is neither on that one, Justin. Neither of those fellows are in the ghost in the invisible bikini. They probably passed on the project because it sounds dumb. All right, Norman, here's your chance. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Get on the board. Okay. This is my chance. This is it. Like I said, these aren't easy. The perils of Gwendolyn in the land of the Yik-Yik. is a real movie. Does it feature Linda Carter of Wonder Woman fame or Tanya Roberts, Sheena Queen of the Jungle, or neither.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Okay, I feel like I have to talk this through. Like, who wants to be a millionaire? Okay. Wait, who was my first choice? Was... Your first choice was Linda Carter. Linda Carter, Wonder Woman. And the movie's called what again? The Perils of Gwendolyn in the Land of the Yikyak. I am going to say, because I have no idea who Tanya Roberts is, I'm going to say Linda Carter. That is, you know, amazing reasoning, and I support it. But the answer is neither. There's an actress named Tani Kattain, who was the
Starting point is 00:23:59 lead in that she's the one in the white snake videos that like straddles the uh the hood of the car yeah i feel like i know her name yeah yeah uh yeah she's her film career kind of didn't really go anywhere because titles like perils of gwendlin the land of yikyak all right nobody's on the board this is very exciting anybody can win anna yeah confessions of an opium eater Conficions of an opium eater Like I didn't I guess you can eat opium
Starting point is 00:24:37 But it seems like a weird way to phrase it And does that movie feature Vincent Price Bella Legosi or neither I'm gonna go with neither And that's because No one's been in any of these movies Right the answer's been neither every time
Starting point is 00:24:56 So yeah I've learned Patterns been a stuff but this movie stars Vincent Price. Oh, God. Yeah, it was the fourth one. I should have known. I should have known. Well, congrats to him on a great film.
Starting point is 00:25:13 I kind of interested in watching Vincent Price eat opium. He probably was eating opium when he narrated the Michael Jackson Thriller video. Just to get through it. All right, Justin, you're Are you ready to be wrong?
Starting point is 00:25:33 Yes, absolutely. Yeah. All right. Cannibal women in the avocado jungle of death. Okay. Avocado jungle of death. The jungle sounds pretty nice until you get, you know, at first, an avocado jungle. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Oh, I don't like avocado that much. I don't know. It sounds like a cheesecake factory item. Also, why are there, if. They're cannibals, like, so they completely blow off the avocado or they have it on the side? A little guack, yeah. Yeah, a little guac with your... No, it's extra.
Starting point is 00:26:11 They don't want that. Human parts. All right, that movie. Justin, this has worked out good for you. It's because stand-up comedians. Does that movie feature Arsenio Hall or Howie Mandel or neither? Okay. all right
Starting point is 00:26:31 I'm going to go Arsenio Hall it's neither I got tired of having it the answer not be neither I just have to keep doing that but the reason I thought of those two comics is because the person who genuinely
Starting point is 00:26:52 is in cannibal women in the avocado juggle of death is Bill Maher oh wow yeah he kind of had a little acting career for a while he was in dc cab and a few other things including this movie because we're getting him in dcab i was thinking who might need the money you know out of the two oh that's an interesting uh way to look at it but i think this movie's also
Starting point is 00:27:23 you know pretty old so uh you know arsino and how we were probably and Bill, we're all on the rise at this point. But that's either here nor there because Norman can now win this entire game just by getting this one right. Oh, wow. This is a lot of pressure. The only thing you win is you get to go first in the second and final game, you know, which might be a, there might be an advantage to it, but maybe not.
Starting point is 00:27:55 All right. All right. I stumbled upon a movie that it really has this title. The Wind Cannot Read. Wow. Yeah. Makes me feel so bad for Wind. If Wind could only learn how to read, maybe right, maybe people wouldn't be so annoyed with it.
Starting point is 00:28:15 The Wind is like, likely of myself who also can't read. Yeah. The Wind cannot be in a play or a TV show. show because they can't read they can't learn their lines um so what did people just say her lines to her and then she repeated them back leo me or so yeah i really i like leaning into this she can't no it's just it's just a rumor but he has never proven that it's not false she went on uh watch what happens live with andy cohen and he asked her about it and she still didn't realize he asked her to read the cue card and she still didn't read it.
Starting point is 00:29:01 So I love that was like she was being defiant like I'll show you and keep this. I think she kind of laughed it off but then she still didn't read it. It's so false, but it's just my favorite rumor of all times. I used to do her impression, but I did a video where the only thing she can read are her amazing reviews on Brown. That's it. She can only read positive things about her. Yep. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:29:31 All right. Who is in the win that cannot read? Okay. Was it Fred McMurray, James Mason, or neither? I'm going to say, neither. You did it, Norman. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Oh, my God. You win this stupid-ass game. Congratulations. I've never won anything in my life. I'm so, excited. Congratulations. We're so proud of you.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Norman, you must always know the answer when they play those, when Sherry plays games with the audience members where they have to recognize famous faces and stuff like that. Yeah, I always know the answer. Sometimes they're like ridiculously easy and they still can't get it. Yeah, though it's wild, how easy it can be. But congratulations on your win. You get to go first in the next game that we're going to play after. this break we'll be right back we are back and norman baker pretty thus far but he's got quite a mountain
Starting point is 00:30:38 to climb to win this thing against Anna Royceman and Justin former champion Thompson Doug can I just say I won once but you clearly forgot well oh because I didn't invite you back to defend your title? I think I did at some point. I won a long time ago. Once you came back and defended your title, then you're nothing to me again. Oh.
Starting point is 00:31:04 If you don't win again. Justin's a new winner. I got you. Justin just won recently. I'm so sorry. It's actually been longer than it should take to have him back, but he's back as a recurring champion.
Starting point is 00:31:18 I'm hard to pin down, you know. Back in my corner now. It's true. It's true. But no, I like, I like it. It's usually a man move to point out to me how often a person is won. The women aren't as competitive. So it's nice to hear that from you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:31:38 I just like to be a winner. I'm sorry. Yeah. No, that's that's the winning way. So the game we're going to play is audience favorite. It's called Weird Algorithm. And in this game... I have taken the IMDB, the search engine on there, on the Internet Movie Database. I have discovered that when you click on a movie and then you click on the cast list, and they list all the cast movies, you can then proceed to click on Refine, and you can change the order of the cast based on their current popularity on the series.
Starting point is 00:32:25 star meter. Oh, fun. Yeah, I worry for every actor who hears about this, because you do not, it's like Googling yourself. You don't want to see where you rank with the rest of the cast in a movie. It could be a little devastating,
Starting point is 00:32:43 I would think, to some actors. That's right. Most of the people involved in this game are probably tough enough to take it at this point if they happen to stumble onto this particular function. I mean, some crazy actors will, you know, seek it out on purpose. But, so what I did was, in each case, I wrote down the name of a movie and then the two people who are legitimately billed as the top two stars of the movie.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Then I will ask you to pick somebody between those two people. Or someone else that you know is in that particular movie. And the higher, if they are ranked number one of the cast, you get three points. If they're ranked number two, you get two points. If they're ranked number three, you get one point. And everything else is not worth any points at all. We'll do three rounds.
Starting point is 00:33:48 We'll do three rounds of this. And each of you will get a chance to go first, starting with Norman will go first on the first round. And then if we need a tiebreaker at the end, then because he won the first game, Norman will get to go first in the tiebreaker. But let's not worry about that unless it happens. So Norman, the first movie is the greatest showman. starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and a few other people. Who from that movie do you think would be the most popular today? This is tough because that movie has a crap load of stars in it.
Starting point is 00:34:41 There's Hugh Jackman. There's Zach Efron. There is Michelle Williams. I'm sure you're just saying. sure everything you're saying is what Justin is thinking as well. Yep. I'm thinking this is the big help because I haven't seen it. Yeah. No, you're really helping him out, Norman.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Okay, I'm over here just humming the soundtrack, so this is enjoyable. Yeah. Wait, so I can guess anybody from the movie. Anybody from the movie that you think would be number one, I type this into the search engine today.
Starting point is 00:35:19 So it's somebody, it's the person who's being, you know, low-search, most popular on I-M-B. Okay. You know, in this cast, it doesn't necessarily mean they're that popular. You know what I mean? Like, with the other people in this cast, they're number one. I'm going to go out of the box and say Zendaya. Yeah, that is a perfectly reasonable answer because Zendaya is in that movie. now let's go to Justin
Starting point is 00:35:52 what do you think from all this stuff you've heard so far who would you like to pick and you can have the same answer as another player at some point you want to maybe say a different answer to remain competitive and potentially win you don't want to tie somebody else but that's up to you well I'm going to have to go with the star of prisoners Hugh Jackman
Starting point is 00:36:19 As soon as you bought up prisoners, I was like, well, there's an answer right there already. Yeah, I mean, just to change it up, you know, I would, Norman had a great guess. I would normally copy that since that's allowed, but, you know, I recommended prisoners. We're going to go with Huey. I like it. You're a man of, of something. Anna. I'm going to go with Hugh Jackman, I think, on this one.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Yeah? You're going to share an answer with Justin? I feel like in the IMDB world, like, I don't know. I'm looking up Hugh Jackman. Zendaya, I'm looking up on like Vogue. I don't know. Right. True. That's just where I'm at. My head was at when you said this movie. I'm also a diehard Hugh fan. I hope so. He's great. He's so nutty in this new song sung blue movie. I don't know if you'll get award recognition for it, but he really commits to being this cheesy
Starting point is 00:37:23 cover, Deal Diamond cover band leader. And Kate Hudson is really good in it as his wife and stage performance partner. They call themselves
Starting point is 00:37:41 thunder and lightning. And it's a pretty entertaining movie, but I think she's going to get a best actress nominations. I read like a very raving review about this movie and variety and they were like oh, Kate Hudson is going to win the Oscar this year.
Starting point is 00:38:03 That's a lot because Jesse Buckley is really good in the movie Hamnet. I haven't seen that yet. It's really, she's just, you know, they put her through the ringer in that movie and she takes it like a champ. very very disturbing i don't want to give to a bunch away but uh turns out shakespeare wasn't
Starting point is 00:38:29 the greatest husband okay so uh everybody got some points that's the good news the bad news is nobody snagged the number one person from this film number three and one point to norman is zendaya okay Who like, I get it. She's like, you know, she's always popular all the time, but I can't think of something that people will be looking at her for right now unless it's just like, you know, is she going to be in euphoria? But number two is Hugh, Hugh was two.
Starting point is 00:39:07 So that's worth two points each for Justin and Anna. And then number one, you said it, Norman. And then didn't land on it. Rebecca Ferguson. You're kidding. Because she's in something right now. The nuclear bomb movie on Netflix. House of Dynamite.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Yes. She's one of the main characters in that. A movie that I haven't talked much about on the show because I have mixed feelings about it. And did everybody see weapons? Yes. Yes. You know how weapons will go for a while about one character and then a slide? light will come up about another character in the story.
Starting point is 00:39:51 You know, it'll go back a little bit in time and then and then show their perspective of everything that's happened so far and how it keeps doing that throughout the film. Yeah. Strangely, in the same calendar year, this House of Dynamite comes out and it does the same thing. It doesn't put the people's names up there, but it just follows different characters, but it keeps going back and then continuing. Frankenstein, too, did that. Yes, yes. It's like such a thing this year. It's crazy that that device is being used by everybody. And the thing I like the least about it is these are decent films. They're good films. But as a audience member, I don't like it. Because it's just like, why do we have to go back and see this again? Because all these movies end up being two and a half hours long because of it. And to me, it's like it's structurally interesting, but not, I don't need it.
Starting point is 00:40:46 Like all those stories would be just as compelling if they just, you know, told it straight through and concentrated on all the characters all the time. If I wanted chapters, I would read a book. Exactly. Or you can see it chapter one and it chapter two because it's based on a huge book, but they only made two movies. There's only two chapters. When they put that title card up, I'm not going to lie, I look at my, like, phone.
Starting point is 00:41:13 I'm like, what time is it? Like, how do we? Do we really have time to go back? now well frankestine really is really jarring because it's it only does it once but it does it so deep in the movie that you're like huh yeah i saw it last night that's why i thought of that but it's a good movie though yeah it was great jacob alority he yeah i could see that but jacob alority he kills it like he's like so so good as a handsome monster yeah he's like a hot a hot frankenstein yeah I kept saying that.
Starting point is 00:41:47 I was like, he's too hot. Like, I like, I get it. Like, everyone loves him because he's hot right now. My friend in front of this, my friend of the show, Steve Agee posted a picture of Jacob of Lurdy as Frankenstein's monster and said, oh, great. Frankenstein's monster is more handsome than me. Or not as ugly as me, something like that. All right.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Everybody's got points, but Justin, you get to go first on this one. might not be a movie you're familiar with, so put on your guessing at. It's a film from the 80s called Streets of Fire, and it starred Michael Perre and Diane Lane. And unfortunately, you have to go first,
Starting point is 00:42:39 so Norman's not getting a chance to tell you who else is that movie. If Norman even knows, I don't know, this might be before everybody, Yeah, I don't know this movie. It's, as you'll hear, once we start saying who else is in it, it's kind of a banger. What's you, what would you like to go with Justin?
Starting point is 00:43:02 All right. What was the first name? Michael Perre, P-A-R-E with an accent over the E, he starred in, what was that movie? There was a movie about a band that he. starred in that was kind of popular but streets of fire uh he was the lead in it and um well less said about him the better and then diane lane of course is uh you know started as a child actresses and been in tons of movies like outsiders and cotton club and shit like that so all right shot in the dark jeff goblum oh i love a saw a wild saw in the dark
Starting point is 00:43:46 Well, I will not confirm or deny that he's in it, but Jeff Goldblum is always worth bringing up. And he is in, uh, he's in some movies in, in the 80s. Uh, Anna, what would you, uh, you're, you're not familiar with this movie either. No, I'm not. Um, bad. But I love Diane Lane and unfaithful. So, I mean, one of my favorites. No, that's a good one. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Um, really good. I saw that in high school and I was like, ooh, I guess you have to have an affair in your adult life. This is so good. I'm going with Diane Lane because you said her and I know her and that's as much of this movie as I got. Yeah, yeah. I picked one that's a little too obscure. Norman, what do you think? Do you want to piggyback on?
Starting point is 00:44:38 I'm definitely going to go with Star of Unfaithful and Under the Tuscan Sun. that's another one she was in I like her a lot she sings a lot in a movie called The Cotton Club she's good in that all right let's talk about the results
Starting point is 00:45:00 let's discuss these exciting results I'm going to die if it's Jeff Goldblum that would really be amazing but number three in this movie making his leading role feature film debut I think he might have played a bit part here
Starting point is 00:45:20 or there but is his first big role, Willem Defoe is the, that's why this movie is so cool is he's the bad guy in it and he wears these weird looking overalls and he's just a disturbing character as Willem Defoe often is
Starting point is 00:45:38 that's who I meant to say that's what you meant to say go Bloom and Defoe. They're get confused for each other all the time. Number two is Diane Lane. So congratulations to Anna and Norman for each gift to two more
Starting point is 00:45:57 points. And then it was funny. I started yapping about weapons and didn't even really think through where things were headed. But the number one person that appears in streets of fire is Amy Madigan. oh my god who of course plays the uh the villain in weapons
Starting point is 00:46:21 oh my god iconic crazy ass gladys and uh she's uh i'm excited for her because she's probably going to get an Oscar nomination for that very strange performance that was most of the work was done in the makeup and costume areas like she just looks so crazy you know i saw that entire movie and i was like i know that lady from somewhere i recognize her voice i know somewhere and then the credits rolled and i was like
Starting point is 00:46:56 it's uncle buck's girlfriend like that's how i know her that's how i know amy madigan that's the best reason to know her uh weapons and uncle buck are like yeah both classics and she's misunderstood, you know, she's misunderstood, you know, she doesn't, you know, she doesn't understand what, what's going on with Uncle Buck. She just wants him to settle down. She just wants him to shut up for work. Yeah. And not, and not to wrestle in the living room with Lori Metcalfe. It's the best movie. Yeah, I do love it. Okay, so, but check out, everybody, check go streets of fire if you can because it's uh i think it's pretty cool it's directed by walter hill
Starting point is 00:47:45 and diane lane plays the lead singer in a uh in a band and then for some reason they get involved with criminals and they're on the run and rick moranus is in it too which is interesting all right we're down to the third and final round this time anna gets to go first Anna's in the lead with four points but Norman is close behind with three and Justin has Q and for anybody that isn't following along the movies I picked
Starting point is 00:48:21 are very music-based musicals even if you will Anna who do you think is top build in the animated classic Frozen Starring Kristen Bell and Edina Menzel
Starting point is 00:48:40 Ake Adele Dazim Adele Dizim It never gets old There's a lot of people in that movie too Yeah All right
Starting point is 00:48:54 Here's where my brain is going Nobody wants this season two Just came out like a week ago Right A week and a half ago And I feel like it's gotten a lot of buzz so that's why my my gut is saying go with Kristen Bell um I'm going with Kristen Bell because of that reason because I would think people are like what else do I know her
Starting point is 00:49:17 and they're right they're looking it up on I and TV that's fair all right Norman what do you think huh that's actually really really good reasoning and I actually I'm just going to copy you I think that's, like, that's good enough for me. I'm going to go to Kristen Bell. Okay. Justin. Let me go, Kristen Bell also. I got nothing near, man.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Play it safe. You know, you might watch Frozen someday with the kids or something. Yeah, with the cats. Let it go used to be my alarm. which is unfortunately it ruined that song what a weird way to start the day i know it's like a really dark song too yeah i mean i guess it's good in the winter time to like wake up to somebody saying oh the cold's not going to bother me yeah when you start when i started dating my boyfriend he's like is your alarm let it go yeah he probably requested that you let it go
Starting point is 00:50:32 As quickly as possible. Yep. All right. Well, you all went with Kristen Bell, but let's talk about what's really going on here or what the facts are. Number three is a gentleman I admire a great deal. He has even been on this podcast once, and his name is Alan Tudik. Oh, I love Alan Tudik. he's so good he's uh you know he's one of the robots in the most recent superman and uh he's a real go-to guy
Starting point is 00:51:10 for like uh voices uh in things and uh and he's in uh frozen of course he's the best um number two uh is a great actress who i wasn't even aware she was a voice in this movie but people must be talking about her right now for some reason. Maybe Anna can clear this up for me because I know you're very familiar with her. Anna Lee Ashford. Oh, wow. I don't know what she's in right now.
Starting point is 00:51:44 What is she doing lately that would make people put her above, you know, some of these other people. I don't know. Last, she was a Masters of Sex. I'm like, what else has she done on screen? Right. And then she was in. She was in a drama about, like, where Caitlin Dever was, like, raped.
Starting point is 00:52:04 And then she was a woman who'd also been attacked by the same attacker. Oh, I love that show. Right. Is she in Wicked? Because maybe I feel like if anyone's, like, adjacent or in Wicked right now, they could. Maybe she has, like, a small. Oh, I don't think they found something for her to do in Wicked for Good. But holy crap, that movie.
Starting point is 00:52:25 I keep hearing for people that it really really sticks to landing because ever since I saw Wicked One I was just like concerned that well but the second half of the show is a bummer like it's not there's nothing fun happening yeah so I thought the second movie would just be a bummer
Starting point is 00:52:46 but it seems like they added some songs and they really it really came out great I hear that's what I've been hearing of course number one is christin bell i just been stalling because it's uh it's christian bell for that very reason that she's in nobody wants this and that also people were like kind of freaking out over uh something that the way she and jack shepard celebrated their houseury was her out there quoting the fact that he said to her i could kill you if i wanted to but i love you
Starting point is 00:53:20 um yeah normal guy stuff It's totally normal. It's totally normal to turn around and tell people that. Because I think she's the one that said that he said it. Yeah. Whatever. They brought their like foreplay into public. I'm okay with it.
Starting point is 00:53:38 Yeah, right. That's their thing, I guess. Yeah. No. They've both been on this show as well. And so I like them all right. But that was pretty funny that happened. Congratulations, Anna.
Starting point is 00:53:52 You have the most points. So you are the winner. once again you're back in the winter circle after some time out of that circle and that means you get to do your plugs first what would you like to promote thank you so much this the show is coming out tomorrow i have a show at the same time as you i think on tuesday night for real i think so yeah for the new york comedy fest i'm doing this show at chelsea music hall which is now the stand west as they have purchased it Um, but if you really want to get a ticket to come see me, January 7th, I'll be at Joe's pub doing an hour. So that'll be a fun one. Oh, that's very cool. Maybe we'll, you know, you'll definitely back before then to defend your title. And, uh, thank you so much. Well, we will, uh, we will, we will plug it again. I don't, I don't know how many people list they go to that kind of stuff, but, uh, I hope some do because I like it. And, uh, a stand-up show? Huh? It's just a, it. stand-up show. Oh, at Joe's pub, you're going to do an hour of talking? Mostly, yeah. There'll be some music, but... Okay, there you go.
Starting point is 00:55:03 That's what I'm talking about. Oh, and I'll be at BravoCon next weekend. There you go. That's a good one. Oh, wow. Good for you, Bravo. Do you want to build a snowman? Okay. Like, the Bravo channel sort of
Starting point is 00:55:20 changed it, I guess, but to me, Bravo was always said sarcastically. you know like cartoon characters you know Andy Cohen changed that yeah so he really brought it back to being a positive thing to say
Starting point is 00:55:37 all right Norman Baker thank you for joining us what would you like to promote I know you've got how active are you with your when you do your videos where you say let's get into the mess

Starting point is 00:56:20 Yeah, make it make sense. On top of a show, yeah Yeah, she's just I mean, you know, I love Sherry But like it feels like she's kind You know, she's got like A lot of complaining to do about being super busy And now she's
