My name is Doug and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies recording on Wednesday afternoon, August 5th, 2026. From the corrections department, two episodes ago, I said, Billy Preston, when I meant to say Billy Porter. Apologies to all billies involved.

My guest today include no billies. They are. Paget Brewster, Jay Shandra, Seyker, and Jeff Wadlow. Hello. What's up? Hi. Hi there. Hey, let's meet everybody individually, alphabetically, by first name.

He is the director, co-writer, and co-star of Super Troopers 3 in theaters. Meow! It's Jay Shadur Sankar. Hey, dude. Hey, how are you? I'm on the press tour for Super Troopers 3 right now. That's awesome. Are you tired of talking about it? Yeah. But I will for you, Doug.

Well, what's your favorite? Do you have a favorite question to be asked about the third installment of the trilogy? The question that I like the least is, which of you would be most likely to read the other one their Miranda rights? And you're like, what? But you'd be surprised how many people ask it. You're like, okay, I guess AI is spitting out that question for everybody to ask. Yeah, that is a really, that's such an odd take because like I wouldn't expect anyone to have a great answer ready to go. We've been asked it seven times and we've had zero laughs from the answers.

Let me tell you what this is my, this is the question that I came up with. Because this is a, you know, I love plugging your movie. I'm excited that it's happening. I can't wait to see it. But like, you know, we play games and stuff on this show. So we just talk briefly with everybody about what they're up to. And this is the question I wrote down. What are the troopers up to in this one?

Okay. I'll tell you quickly. Okay. We wanted to do a story about what would it be like if the worst guy in your office started sleeping with your sister. And then we thought, okay, let's make it Farva and let's make it my character, Thorny's sister. And let's get them engaged. And so the whole movie is is me trying to stop the wedding. So I'm kind of describing it as meet the parents, meet super troopers. And I want to thank my friend John Hamburg for making Meet the Parents for Making Meet the

parents. Okay. I don't know if you'll hear this, but, you know, maybe it'll get back to him. But that sounds super fun. And what's the runtime on this one? It's 99 minutes. It's stalled. I know.

I know. I know. I was like, don't you think everything is too long now? Yes, I really do, except for Super Troopers 3. Yeah. And it also, Doug, it tested the highest of any movie in Searchlight's history. I mean, that means it tested better than Little Miss Sunshine.

Correct. Plus the other two Super Troopers movies. Correct. I love it. Well, thank you for joining us today. And this certainly won't be like the rest of your press tour because I don't think they make you play trivia usually. No, they don't. He is the director of The Devil's Mouth.

How awesome is that title? Which you can watch now on Prime. It's Jeff Wadlow. Hey, Jeff. What's up, Doug? Thanks for having me back. This is exciting. You did the show two years ago to promote another movie,

and then now you have this new one, and so I got the call, you know, that you'd like to come back on. That was exciting to me that you're willing to do it again. It was a good time last time, and I like a good time. That's how it works, I guess. So now, two years later, you've made what to me feels like a monumental, monumentally difficult motion picture to film in the devil's mouth,

which is a shark movie, and as I understand it, it's mostly, you're mostly in water and always in Thailand. Yes, the whole movie takes place in a flooded cave system. I shot the whole thing in water. It was a logistical nightmare. But I'm really proud of the final film and I think it came out well. Did you just watch and read everything about how hard Jaws was to film to prepare? Well, you know, I like to not learn from other people's mistakes.

You know, I feel like I have to make all the mistakes on my own. Sometimes I make them over and over again. But we learned a lot and we got through it. And look, something happens when you're doing things for real. And I think the actors of the performances certainly benefited from it. Oh, yeah. I just think everybody was hella uncomfortable a lot of the time. But, you know, not indirect sunlight, which, you know, in JAWS, they had to deal with that.

But in this one, it's, you know, all caves all the time. Oh, not to be out done. We actually shot on the open ocean as well, which was equally foolish. Oh, yeah, that's right. I did see Open Ocean as well in the trailer. And the shark in question that's in these caves is a bull shark? Correct. This is loosely based on real shark science, believe it or not.

And bull sharks can survive in fresh water. They often hunt in the mouths of rivers. They're responsible for the majority of shark attacks. So it's sort of credible that this could happen. And what, this shark is massive, right? Like how much bigger than to use as an example, the shark and jaws, how much bigger is this bull shark? It's actually smaller. It's small.

It is? Yeah, yeah. It's only 17 feet long. But I have them make me a life-size replica of it, and I put it in my office. So anytime we had a meeting or we were talking about the size of the set and the physical production team, we're trying to get me to make this set smaller, I would just point to it. I'd be, look at how big the shark is. It's not as big as the shark and jaws, but it's huge. We cannot make the set any smaller.

It's still very big. Yeah, 17 feet is no joke. Yeah, I thought that was part of the, you know, the bit is that like it's just an insanely large shark. Is it the shark and jaws, is that the largest shark out there? I've seen Jaws many, many, many times. And my recollection is that that shark is 27 feet long. Oh, okay.

But I could be wrong. Don't quote me on that. Or someone fact check me. Well, I already wrote it down, so I'm sorry. No, our shark is... What's that? You're looking at that shark in jaws and saying, 27 feet.

How can you tell? Doesn't Quint say it? Yeah, there's a line in the movie. There's a line in the movie. I think Quint says he guesses that the length is... I thought it was 24, 25, but I bet you're right. He describes it in quite in a lot of detail, I think. He really does...

It's a big animal. Sorry to interrupt. Go ahead. We're all getting in on the shark conversation. It's a lot of fun. Well, let's introduce my third guest today, and everybody watch Devil's Mouth on Prime. Currently, shooting a new season of Criminal Minds, but took the time out to be here with us is Padgett Brewster.

Hi, Padgett. Hi, Doug. Hi, Jeff, hi, Jay. I'm very excited. excited about both of your movies. Thank you. Yeah, when are you going to have time to watch them? You're still busy shooting for a few months?

Well, we finish, I think I told you, September 12th, because then I'm available for Doug Love's movies when someone far more impressive drops out. But I think I saved Devil's Mouth in my menu on Prime. Yes. Okay, but Super Troopers is going to be in theaters, right? Yeah. Rub it in, Padgett.

No, no, that's exciting, a theatrical. release. I'm just saying I for the time being have to watch movies in the safety of my own home. Yeah. It is going to be in the theaters. Yes, it is. Yeah. It's like this, this episode we record on Wednesday, but it comes out at midnight. So it's, it's open. Because you know how now I saw, you could see Super Troopers in LA as early as 2 p.m. tomorrow. And it used to be like Thursday night was just midnight showings of the movies. But now it's creeped all the way down. So it's like, I don't know why they don't just say opens on Thursday, but probably tax reasons or something. But that's, I'm probably going to see Super Troopers three tomorrow. You will. I know you will. You know you are.

Yeah, I can't see it tonight because it's still Wednesday, damn it. I know I should, don't have to tell you this, but smoke a joint before, Doug. Oh, okay. Radical idea. I'll switch it up this time. Finally a movie that makes me feel like I should do that before attending. Now, Paget, let me ask you this, because we talk about, you know, every time you're on, we talk about criminal minds and how you're still making more and you want to keep making more

and we're super happy about that. Yeah. But which do you find, since we're talking to, you know, the directors of Super Troopers and Devil's mouth, which do you find scarier in real life? cops or sharks oh see cops love me so I would have to go with sharks like every cop you meet is just like super into it well listen look at it this way I'm a I'm a 57 year old white lady who's on a show about cops and FBI so if I get pulled over they're very kind to me I don't I don't represent the uh uh uh unvour fortunate segments of population that have a very, very negative relationship with cops.

Yeah. Which I am aware exists. So I'm fine with cops and I work with cops and, you know, I... Right. You're not fine with sharks and you don't work with sharks. I don't work with sharks. Nor would I ever want to shoot a movie that takes place primarily on or underwater. I mean, that just... And so it just feels like you have the shriveliest people.

Excuse me. Are you talking about my personal life? Or people being in water or shrivol. I'm talking about shooting in a movie in the water. Like everyone's just shriveled all the time. Everyone's got pruny fingers. Well, thank you all three of you for joining me today. And before we play some games, there's one piece of business I'd like to do.

and that's where I ask each of you. We'll start with you, Padgett. I ask each of you to recommend a movie. Obviously, you want people to see your movies, but what's one that you can recommend for them to see, like, after? That might even mean fun. Like, what's a good pairing with, like, anyway, Padgett, what's your, I'm sure you came to the show today with a movie in mind.

I did, but I bet you a bunch of people have already said, said this so it's going to be boring to you so i i'm going to i can't wait okay i i enjoyed obsession uh-huh which i saw at home uh-huh on my big tv but i bet a bunch of people saw obsession yeah no it's uh it has come up and loved it and have said it a few times in the last i have not see the obsession but now that you've said it i'm going to see it jay i've been on the fence and i'm going to go watch that damn movie i did like it I liked it very, very much. Doug, did you like it?

Yes. Yes. Oh, that's a tepid review. Well, you know, like you said, it's hard for me to get excited about it because it's come up a few times. You're right. I see. And but people really do love it. And they probably do like it more than I did.

I liked it, you know. I see. But I just was like going. back through some old episodes real quick to see who else recommended and now I can't now I can't find it so maybe I'm just imagining that that's been happening you know the movie that people keep recommending that surprises me especially since I have you know cynical comedian guests is uh people keep bringing it up to sheep detectives oh that's a great it's enjoyable I did like that very much speaking of tepid no I I really enjoy

it i thought it was i thought it was wonderful but obsession is better no i forgot i also saw sheep detectives on my big tv i only went to one movie in the theaters and i don't know if i would recommend it and that was he man oh you know what it's better than some of the other things boy that's my opinion listen i thought i thought the guy playing he man was stellar casting. Yeah. And I think the knee, see,

the Knee brothers were originally wrote the script and were involved with it for a long time and walked away from the project and it was directed by someone else who I don't know, personally or professionally. But I don't think the comedy translated. Why did you see that movie?

Because my husband and I wanted to see what, how their, script was was brought to life. We know before the Nieb brothers did that, I wrote a draft of it. Are you serious? Like 2016. Yeah, I wrote a draft. What were your thoughts on the He-Man that came out?

I mean, look, I'm excited just to see the property on the big screen. They spent a bunch of money on it. I'm very happy about that. I thought the tone I had gone for originally was more Guardians of the Galaxy, and I think they leaned a little more heavily into the comedy, which I don't think I necessarily would have done, but I'm happy to the movie comedy. You are not going to like this movie.

Because I don't think the, I don't, I, it felt like, I feel bad saying this. I'm happy they made the movie. I'm happy. There are some moments that are really great, but it felt like someone who doesn't direct comedy directed it as a comedy. Sure. And so,

there's a lot of, you know, earlier, earlier, I was going to say, it sounds like you're on Amazon Prime's payroll, the way you're pumping my movie and sheep detective. Oh my gosh.

No, no, I'm not. I work for Paramount Plus and they don't know I exist. I'm on barely on a payroll. All right. Well, so,

yeah, I, first of all, the movie's called Masters of the Universe. right? And I thought it was better. I went to see it with, you know, low expectations and then I was entertained enough throughout, which I, you know, can't necessarily say about some of the other, you know, summer movies this year. I would concur.

Yeah. But it's a shame that it did. Ultimately, everyone's calling it a bomb because it didn't do, you know, it didn't do great numbers. So who knows? That they might not be too anxious to make another one. But I felt like it was good enough that they could have just kept going and, you know, sort of build people's interest in it that way. Because when it comes on, when it's on streaming,

everybody's going to watch it. It is on streaming. Yeah. Is it? Is it? It is number two. It's number two in the world on prime. And number one is the devil's mouth.

Yeah. Oh, my God. That's great. That's amazing. Jeff, what would you like to recommend? Well, speaking of the devil's mouth, my lead actress is this really talented performer named Catherine Newton, and she was in a movie that I think deserves another look called Lisa Frankenstein that was written by Diablo Cody, and Catherine is just really, really fantastic in the movie.

I missed it when it was in theaters, but I watched it before a castor in the film. And I was kind of blown away by her commitment to the role. Cole Sprauss is in it, too. It's sort of a fun reimagining of Frankenstein is like sort of the 80s team rom-com. And it's just a fun watch. She's great. She is always really, really good and everything. And it's kind of like she's kind of emerged as a new.

screen queen. Yeah, I mean, I think she's a lot of scary or, you know, horror-leaning movies. Yeah, she's building a resume that I've said in a couple interviews rivals a young Jamie Lee Curtis. Like, I think she's got those kind of chops. Yeah, yeah, she's really good. So do you know which streamer it's on? Lisa Frankenstein, I do not know off the top of my head. I'm sure you can get it on Amazon Prime.

you know watch it on a double bill with Guillermo del Toros Frankenstein uh jay Nirvana the band the show the movie now see you just you just spit it right out there you didn't do what page it does and apologize for saying a movie that's getting recommended constantly like that's another one that's come up a bunch of times lately and it that movie is so fun and here's the

interesting twist with that movie to me is that director, actor Matt Johnson he's the director of this new Anthony Bourdain movie that comes out this weekend called Tony. Yes.

And he did that Blackberry movie. Like this Matt Johnson guy's way more talented than people know. I know. I know. And he's a really funny actor too. Yeah. No, he's hilarious. But also just can make a movie with dramatic

scenes, you know what I mean? Like he's really a really talented dude and yes if you still haven't gotten around to it Nirvana, the show, the band, the movie. I've seen it twice. It's like you have to see it again because you're like how

did they make that happen? How did that work? Yes. How did they shoot that? It's important to see it a second time because you're really watching it differently. Yeah, it really is a wild experience and like that's part of what's making an occult movie, I think,

is that just people can re-watch it and just discover new new things about it every time. May I ask where that is? Oh, it's a Toronto movie. Two guys from Toronto made it. Is it only airing in Toronto? Hey, Padgett.

Do you ever this thing called Google? I will. I should, I should. I wrote all these down. I'm very excited. These are great recommendations. They only project the movie on the side of the CN Tower is the only way you can see it. No, I'll just speak into the remote.

You can see it on Delta Airlines if you're flying across the country. That's where I saw the second time. It's amazing how many movies I see that way. Yeah. Yeah, really, it's unfortunate that it's a great way to fill in the ones you haven't gotten around to

because they sure do have quite a selection all the time now on most of the airlines. Sometimes I just scroll through, scroll through, scroll through, and then just like, oh, screw it. And I just watched something I've seen before, because I already know I like it, you know. Yep.

Well, from these recommendations today, thank you very much. I've seen all these films, so I don't know if I'll be revisiting them right away, but great movies to see. After you've watched Super Troopers 3 in a theater and the devil's mouth on Prime, and

So when the credits are rolling, I have nothing better to do. When the thank yous come up, I look for his name. And this game we're going to play today is called,

wrong or right, because I'll name a movie, and you have to say, right, if he is thanked in the thank yous, or wrong if he isn't. Makes sense? Okay. Yes. Edgar Wright is thanked in the thank yous. Yes. Okay. So we'll start with you, Jay.

And he made a movie with Willem Defoe and Robert Patton called The Lighthouse. So Jeff, right or wrong? I'm going to say wrong. Unfortunately, he was thanked. It might have been, you know, maybe it was his idea to beat the swan to death or whatever that bird was. He gives lots of notes. There's a crane, I think. Anyway, Pad's, you like that movie in a lighthouse?

I didn't see it. Oh, it's wild. Is it good? Do they beat a crane? It's in black and white. And yeah, some sort of bird gets killed. But it's in black and white and it's basically just two guys living together in a lighthouse. But with that, Eggers, you know, sensibility of violence and weirdness and imagery.

I see. All right, Padgett. Right or wrong. Yeah. The motion picture, tick, tick, ellipses, boom.

Wrong. Did you see that one? No. It's good. Doug, I don't even know who this right guy is. You don't know who Edgar right is? No.

Who is it? I swear to God, I don't know who that is. Okay, really quickly. Son of the Dead, Hot Fun. Oh. Baby driver.

Oh, no. Scott Perigman versus the world. Yeah, Scott Perigrapher is the world. My favorite. Okay, I'm sorry. I should have known who that was. See, this is why I don't even know why you're my friend, Doug. I read more books than I see movies. Okay, now I understand.

Yeah, you already answered. I said wrong, because that was made in the 60s, right? No, it's, uh, just from the last couple of years, a few years, I mean, I've lost track of a year. Maybe it's five or six years old, but it's, uh, He was directed by Lynn Manuel Miranda and his post on Jonathan Larson musical that he wrote before he wrote rent. Hmm. Yeah.

Anyway. I'm stuck with my answer. Yeah, well, you are. And Edgar does get thanked at the end of that. Yeah. Well, once you said Lynn Manuel Miranda, I knew it. He's a nice guy. He's going to thank Edgar.

He's going to thank. I mean, you know the nice guys are going to thank this director you just learned about. I don't know. Do you know who Lynn Manuel Miranda is? Yes, I do. He wrote Hamilton, but I've worked with him, so I know him. And he's a nice guy. And of course he thanked Edgar Wright.

I'm glad I worked with you, Paget, because that means you know who I am. I know who you are. I do. I was so excited to find out you were going to be on the podcast today. I'm very fond of you. Well, Jay is winning this game, and he gets to go next. the recent live action version

of Snow White. The recent live action version of Snow White, I'm going to say not thanked. He is thanked. God. Come on, is he? Yes.

All right. Jeff. Yeah. Mickey 17. The Bong Joon home movie. Yeah. Well, I feel like there's a Robert Pattinson connection maybe happening here if he was thanked in the lighthouse. So I'm going to say right. I like the way you worked that out. If that is correct, he is thanked at the end of that one. Right.

You're just guessing before I say this. Yep, it doesn't matter what you say. The answer is right. Okay, because the movie is Parasite. Yes, right. And the answer is wrong. What? Yeah. But that's...

I know, same director, but he doesn't... I guess he doesn't need yourself every time. Ah. Or Robert Pattinson wasn't in Parasite. I just thought Doug's mind was they're all going to be right. Oh, yeah. Well, they all were until you started thinking that way. That's how game shows were.

You're smart. You're smart. Jay. Yeah. They remade the old horror classic Susperia in 2017 with Dakota Johnson. What do you think about that one? I think it's time to get back on the right train. I think you're right.

He does get thanked for Suspira for 2017. I mean, how is this guy? How is this happening? He just, you know, they all have lots of thank you. they thank other people, but he just is like somebody that people go to, I guess,

for like, can you help me out with this thing? Why? Does he give, does he like rames scripts and give notes to people? I think, yeah, maybe that might be it,

but also just, it just could be as simple as, like, he's very good with, like, camera tricks and stuff. And, like, Edgar was the one

that they hired to make Ant Man into a movie, and he is the one that developed, like, the way ultimately when you see the movie the the the way they were able to do the effects of ant men running around on stuff and uh but he got he had creative differences with uh you know with the producers or whatever and so he he left that project but he spent a lot of time uh on that and

just in general like if you watch something like scott pilgrim there's like you know it's just one of those movies like going back to like citizen cane where there's just always different uh crazy things going on with the camera work. I was also asked to make Ant Man. Yeah? Yeah. What happened with you? Did you have creative differences too? I said, you know,

I'm not sure I buy that an ant can really do any of this stuff. And they were like, you're not a fan of this Marvel? And I'm like, no, no. So there were many discussions

after this meeting. Yeah. That was the end of it. I saw the movie and Peyton Reed did it and I thought, man, that's actually a good movie and I wouldn't have thought of any of that. I would have been like, hey, does anyone buying this?

But Peyton did a guy, I thought a great job. I love him as a filmmaker. He made that movie The Breakup, which is just a work of art, I think. Yeah, I also love Bring It On and, oh, yeah, down with love. Like, he's a really, he's really good. So, like, you know, obviously I was sad that Edgar wasn't going to be on Batman anymore, but Peyton did a good job.

And I think a lot of, you know, I didn't even look to see if he, if Edgar gets a thank you at the end of that one. Jeff? Yes. Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1. Oof. that I will not reveal the name of the website so after we play this game but they ranked you know it's probably just some editors that this you know website ranked every summer blockbuster that was number one in its year of release

since 1975 so they took all the number one summer movies which is a movie that plays between June and September, and they took the number one movie, and then they ranked them all. And I wrote down the top 10. So what we're going to do is we're going to take turns, Jay's up first, then Padgett, then Jeff.

And you're going to take turns guessing movies that you think were not only a summer blockbuster, but ranked within the top 10. by this website. You're going to each get three guesses, ultimately. If you get the number one answer, that's worth 10 points. And if you get the number 10 answer, that's worth one point. And then there's, you know, a bunch of points there available in between.

And like I said, Jay, you're up first. What is your first guess, Summer Blockbuster that also, has stood the test of time, according to this website. You know, again, Jeff, I'm sorry about how unfair this is. I know. I should have gone, good. Dog. You come here today with a shark movie, and then this happens. But it's not number one, surprisingly. Jaws, according to these folks, is number three on the list.

It was the number one movie in the summer of 1976, and Jay starts us off with a score of eight points for that. Now, Paget, it's your turn. You're each going to get three guesses, but this is just your first one. Just name one blockbuster that came out in the summer. Well, I hope it did. Right. Sometimes it might have been a Christmas movie. We don't know.

That's not worth any points. But you're not out. You're not out of this. No, I got two more choices. Just try to focus more on like. Summer movies. What movies you remember like, oh, that was out in the summertime. Got it.

you know, if you've lived here for, I've lived here for a long time. So some of these I saw at the Cinderama Dome in the summertime. Jeff, what's your first guess? Well, I do feel that Jaws kind of invented the summer blockbuster, but I believe the movie that elevated it to the level we'd all know it as now would be Star Wars. Yeah, no, that's absolutely a perfectly reasonable answer. I'm not even going to make you say a new hope because that's not what it was called in 1977. And it's number nine on the list.

Number nine. Wow, I'm shocked. It's so low. What? Well, it's, you know. Tell us again, what's the criteria for this list? Just the movies that this person are website liked? They think they're, they think these are the best ones and they rank.

You know, everybody's got to rank everything these days. And it's often. Their preference. Their personal preference. Yeah, and it's, you know, and it's rage bait, you know, like they just want people to see the list and then have their own opinion and then, you know. I feel fully baited because I'm full of rage that Star Wars is number nine on that list. Yeah, no, it's crazy because it really did. You're right about it just elevating the idea of summer of Blockbuster into being just an ongoing thing.

But you're on the board, Jeff. So let's go to Jay for his. second cast. Raiders of the Lost Dark. Number one. Oh. Yeah. He is swooning like

teachers and professor Indiana Jones. I am. I have love you written on my eyelids. That movie's perfect. I wish I'd thought of it. Why does Jay always get to go first? Oh, because his name is J.A.

It's alphabetical. I got the last time. It was alphabetical. And the second time was because he won that first game. I earned it. I don't, I agree that it's terribly unfair to.

I was my second guess. But yeah, from, from 1981 and just an incredible experience that all of

Hollywood has tried to recreate and never fully achieved it. I don't think. It's just so, it's such a perfect movie. Okay, so Jay got 10 points of that one. This isn't looking good for everybody, but it's not over. If you get that number two or number four, those are still worth some pretty good points, Padgett.

I think I have it. I think I have it. Okay. E.T. Why, don't say that was Christmas. No, it was summer. Yeah? You got that right. But also, I was just laughing at the exescent.

sided away you said E.T. Well, it's Spielberg. There's the connection with Raiders. This person might be biased, but not Jaws. So something's wrong with them. I don't know. Well, with E.T. Spielberg does have, you know, at this point, we're counting three and possibly more movies on this list.

And E.T. finish at number seven. Oh, how many points do I get for that? You get four points. Oh, so I am losing. No, you just screamed right into second place by yelling ET into your device. Sorry. Sorry. I cracked me up.

How excited you were with that answer. Jeff, do you have an exciting answer for your second guess? I'm trying to get into the psychology of the person who generated this list. Right. Clearly not just based on performance or where it kind of exists in the zeitgeist. I'm going to go for adding like critical quality to the Matrix. I'm going to say

the Dark Night. Did quite well. You're right with the critics. And I think, yeah, and was obviously huge in the year that came out. It like almost toppled Titanic for number one movie of all time.

And on this list, it is number 10. So that's one more point Jeff. So everybody's on the board. But Jay has a tremendous lead and has to do his third guest now. Platoon.

Was a summer blockbuster? You tell me. I don't, I don't, I feel like that was probably positioned for her to get Oscars, so it probably came out in the fall. Probably is the way we're going to resolve this? Oh, no, I know it's not in the top ten. I know that, but I just also now curious if it even is a summer movie. But it didn't, it didn't crack the top ten.

So for your third guess, you get a zero. but you have a commanding lead. So I think you could win this thing. But Padgett? Just Batman, the first Batman with Michael Keaton. Was very much a summer movie. I slept on the sidewalk outside the village theater in Westwood with my friends so that we could see the first showing on opening day.

And even having done that, ended up having to sit in bad seats in the balcony. I'll never forget. Oh, Doug. How much I didn't like my seats. But I did like the movie. And it was a huge, huge hit that summer, but not in the top 10. What the, come on.

You're going to tell us who wrote this list at some point, right? Yeah, but you're going to go, what's that? It's going to be Edgar Wright. If it's, I was just, if it's Edgar. he does he does often publish his his list of like a top 50 movies

of all time I think or his favorite 50 and I think Reservoir Dogs is number one maybe but what's that it's a good choice Reseroy Dogs that would be my top yeah are we playing another game now Doug I still don't understand

how Star Wars isn't, I just don't understand that to me, I don't understand. Maybe you should guess it again. Wait, will you hear, where you hear what beats it, pageant? And you'll be like, oh, okay, I guess that makes sense. But Jeff gets one more guess.

I'm last. So I've got a few ideas. Trying to decide between Top Gun, Jurassic Park, and Independence Day. I think I'm going to go with, I'm going to say Top Gun. One out of those three is in the top 10. What? That's bananas.

Which one? And it's not Top Gun. Oh, no. And it's not Independence Day. Oh, wait, you said Jurassic Park? Yes. Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park isn't in the top 10 either.

What? Mission is possible? It's number, Jurassic Park is number 11. How many guesses does he get at one time? Three? I was cheating, Jay. I was cheating. Yeah, I took his answer to his top gun.

I just was saying what the other, what happened on the other ones, just so that. So none of those three are in the top ten. Correct. That's bonkers. Yeah, it really is. But wait till you hear, you're not,

there's one movie on this list where you'd go, oh, that's not a top ten blockbuster of all time, but the rest of them are pretty damn solid. Wait, can I ask the question? Mm-hmm. knowing that Jay won. Can't, can, right? Can we just like, can we just keep guessing?

Just for, just for, just for 30 seconds. Can we just through? An hour long show, Padgett. Yeah. We still got, we, we do have time, though. I mean, I don't, I don't hate this idea. Are we doing another game? No, there's no more game.

I told the press that the movie was Super Troopers three winter soldiers. And then I talked to all the guys in Broken Lizard and they absolutely refused to shoot in the snow because they said their jaws would be trembling and they couldn't deliver by the jokes at the rate I needed them to. And then I agreed with them. And then we ended up putting in the summer. So we got rid of we got rid of the extra stuff. But it could be called Super Troopers three Farva's wedding if you want to if you want to, if you want to. have an unofficial one. Oh, I love it unofficial. I'll say that all the time. People will go, that's not the title. I go, unofficial. I heard it from a man at the top. Also, we did not thank Edgar Wright in our film.

Okay, that's good to know, too. But in that one game, we covered pretty much all the times Edgar's been thanked, but that's a pretty impressive list of movies that wanted to thank. Thank you. I'm kind of jealous. Yeah, I'm only in the credit. I'm only in the thank yous of a couple of things, and it's not anything I would brag about.

Back to the future? Number six. Oh, yes, of course. Oh, that's good. Of course, back to the future. And I'm excited that it's on the list because I've just been reminiscing because, you know, the Cinerama Dome is going to reopen. And that is where I saw Back to the Future on opening day.

Oh, my God. And now it's coming back. And they're saying the Dome's going to open up sooner than like the Ark Ler arc light behind it's also going to reopen, but that's going to be like, that's going to become an al-a-draft house. So they got to do a complete remodel in there, but they're going to just leave the Cinerama Dome basically how it was, like regular, uh, concessions, like no food at your, you know, no delivery to your seats. And, uh, it just sounds like they're, like they're acting like, it, like in weeks, not, you know. I can't believe they've taken this long. I mean,

it's been shuttered for years. It's crazy. Yeah, it's really, while that, you know, took somebody to come in and step up and do it. And I'm glad it's finally happening. Thank God. Amen. Yeah. Okay. You're right. He's very excited about it. But, you know, that's the other thing is the Bruin in Westwood. The village was bought by a bunch of filmmakers in real. Now they're saying that some other private interests decided to open the Bruins. So both of those beautiful amazing theaters where all the premieres used to happen back in the day in Westwood are going to continue. So I'm very, very excited about that. It's just an exciting time right now because movies have been, you know, in the dumps and worried about all the, you know, the economy

and streaming and all that stuff. But now, you know, Spider-Man and the Odyssey are both making more money than any movies that were made. I saw a statistic that last weekend was the highest-grossing week weekend in theater history. Yeah. You know, and once you adjust for inflation, it's probably maybe the, you know, it drops it down a little bit, but it's still impressive,

considering everybody thought movies were just dead. Yeah. So it's great. Okay. I'm going to page it, no more guessing. No. I'm sorry. I'm just going to tell you.

Yeah. So this is the funny, this is the funny thing. Star Wars was number nine, right? So after Star Wars came out, they made two more, you know, Star Wars movies in fairly rapid succession

that were received slightly better by critics, I think. I don't know. I don't know the numbers there. But number eight on this list is Return of the Jedi. So you're on the right track when you're like,

I can't believe Star Wars ranks so low. But then we continue to go up the list and Empire Strikes Back. Possibly one of the best-reviewed movies of that kind ever is number four on the list. That makes sense. So you were in the right zone there

with the Star Wars movies and feeling like they got short shrift. But then, you know, Jaws was three. Oh, going back to number five, this is the one that I was like, really? Okay, I'm surprised it made the most money that year. And I'm also surprised that they think it's the fifth best blockbuster. Batman returns. What?

Yeah. I think that's somebody that just has a massive crush on Michelle Pfeiffer. Yeah, or Tim Burtonfile. I mean, that movie is not great. Yeah, I would think that they're really. original Batman would have ranked higher. But then, you know,

Empire Strikes Back was four, Jaws was three, and then number two, which I find to be completely glorious and in my head fairly accurate. It's not better than Jaws.

It's not better than Empire Strikes Back. I give it the slot right after those two, though, because it's who framed Roger Rabbit. Oh my God, which I saw like six times that summer it came out. of that summer?

I forgot. Yeah, I also didn't realize it was the highest grossing movie that summer. Oh, God. I knew it did very well, but I didn't know it was number one. Wow. I would not have guessed that. You made me guess like the highest grossing movies of the summer for the last 30 years. I would not have guessed that.

Yeah. No, that was, it's interesting and happy for the movie. And the website, I think, focuses more on, more on, like, sport stuff, but of course, you know, everybody, no matter what you're focusing on, you're going to have, you know, wild movie opinions because, you know, everybody, you know, takes different things from the experience. But the website, if you want to go look at it, it's called insidehook.com. Who wrote it? Just somebody at that, at that website. I just find, I find these lists fascinating because they're so, this one in particular is so, accurate and inaccurate at the same time. I read the top four are four of my favorite movies ever, so I can't really, you know,

but then the Batman Returns squeaked in there. So I forgot to ask you, Jay, who should I call, because you won, you get to call anybody you want a shithead at the end of the show. Is anybody in particular your, want me a show? I can call anybody I want a shithead. That's the prize. That's the prize.
