Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers, greenie babies, sticky seeds with 50 acid popper kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see, cause Doug loves movies! Hey, hey, hey everybody. I love movies, but I also like TV quite a bit and just realized that mine is still on right next to me when i'm trying to uh do this show my name is doug and i love holiday films let's say that for this whole month this is doug lowe's movies our first episode in 20 you know ouray december 4th and my guests today are rory albanese knies mobli and matt stosky hello everybody hello let's meet them individually and alphabetically even though everybody just did a great job of taking their turn to speak uh also alphabetically by first name. She's a return guest to the show. It's been too
Starting point is 00:01:11 long. Kanice Mobley. Hey, Kanice. Hey, how are you doing? I'm good. What have you been up to? I have been traveling. I was in Utah, which is a weird place. I'm back in New York, though, so thankfully there's culture and stuff. Oh, okay. Utah is a cultural free zone. I think that's part of their advertising for tourism. They did outlaw that, yes. Come here if you're sick of culture.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Honestly, apt description. Apt description. tourism they did outlaw come here if you're sick of culture honestly app description after and uh do you have uh do you have a new podcast or what what's uh what is the thing that you uh mentioned to me when we were talking about coming on the show oh yeah so my album uh follow-up question comes out on fr, December 9th. Perfect. See, I knew there was a reason we were timing your appearance at this time. But of course, I forgot what it was. And what's the album called again? It's called Follow-Up Question.
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's very silly. Okay. Something you never want to hear, like at a Q&A after a film is somebody that manages to say the words follow up question. Also joining us today, a director who's gone from CeeLo's Fuck You video to Blue's Big City Adventure. Currently on Paramount+. It's Matt Stosky. Hi, Matt. Hey, that's me. How's it going, Doug? to Blues Big City Adventure, currently on Paramount+. It's Matt Stosky. Hi, Matt. Hey, that's me. How's it going, Doug? Good to be here.
Starting point is 00:02:50 It's going great. So that's the trajectory. You basically started off doing music videos like the one I mentioned and then have now landed as the director of a decidedly family film, The Blues Big City Adventure. Yeah, quite the career. But, you know, I love musicals, and the whole music video thing was kind of hooked me in.
Starting point is 00:03:21 So, yeah, from music videos to uh to the kids stuff it's like if if a youngster if a young person types your name into the internet movie database which has no age restriction yeah it just says matt stowski director fuck you yeah that's the first thing it says yeah and there's some other videos in there too that i'm sure the kids will absolutely love you know so yeah well that's cool uh i like that you've been able to uh to make this transition and uh do you see yourself now making more family films or do you think that is kind of a one-off uh that like the preschool space definitely one-off um but uh you know i'm i'm i love the fantasy space i love stuff that's surreal but
Starting point is 00:04:13 i got i got a couple things that are more family but family slash adult oriented you know kind of working on so yeah all right well uh we'll get into uh both family films and R-rated ones later on in the show. Did you have, I know everybody goes through this with the difference between a PG-13 and were you just gunning for a G with blues, big city adventure or, uh, is it PG due to maybe some tense situations? No, I think it's, I think it's G and it was really, really G before I got involved and we're able to put in some of the, uh, the self-aware elf-type jokes in there. Oh, that's good.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Hard G, you know. Yeah, well, I am definitely going to watch it. I'm not going to sit here and say that I've seen it, but I definitely want to watch it. Paramount Plus, of course, they've been good to me so far in their existence. Whenever a new thing comes along they uh they let me watch it um also joining us today waiting patiently is another return guest a dangling champ even it's rory albanese hey rory i forgot it was a dangling champ that's true yeah that's uh you know i mean you're always welcome back,
Starting point is 00:05:45 but that's part of the reason why I've been pestering you for the last few weeks is because you are defending your title again today. I was just wrapping up my 15-week run on Jeopardy. That's why I wasn't able to do this. Oh, okay. But it's interesting you can talk about how long the run was when you, it hasn't aired yet. I thought they were very strict. I don't,
Starting point is 00:06:09 my embryonic and I have a different opinion on how that should work. You know, She's yeah. She's a, you know, she's a scientist with opinions. Yeah. We haven't gotten along since blossom. I'm being honest. Yeah, we haven't gotten along since Blossom.
Starting point is 00:06:24 I'm being honest. Your Twitter profile could not have summed it up better. It says sometimes he tweets or, you know, sometimes I tweet, sometimes I don't. Yeah, I was ahead on hating Twitter before Elon Musk took it over. I was way ahead on that. Yeah, but you do, you know, if you scroll through, it's like, it's maybe a month or two between tweets, but, uh, you know, there's still some gems in my Instagram.
Starting point is 00:06:53 My Instagram is the same way I usually take. I found that I'm a lot healthier staying away from social media. So I do it for me. I think everybody's got to you know got to deal with it their own their own way it's you know some people even need some uh some tough love in their lives someone to tell you know tell them if they're uh they're on it too much but i guess you you know you get that impression from people if they people kind of they speak up when you're on you're sitting there in person and you're on your phone especially these days since we didn't get to be in person for a while yep um before we uh play some
Starting point is 00:07:30 reindeer games if you will i'd like each of you to please recommend for the season a holiday movie i'll say and i'll say the words Christmas movie. Uh, you know, I don't, a holiday or Christmas works for me, you know, uh, if I had to pick sides in the war on Christmas, I'd be on, um, against anyone who thinks there's a war on Christmas. Um, Canice, would you like to start? Sure. So if it's specifically a holiday movie, I'm going to go with The Family Stone
Starting point is 00:08:09 just because it always makes me feel better about my family. They're highly dysfunctional. I think they're like some people who are sleeping with the same person. It's just like, wow, you know what? My family has problems, but they're not this messed up. Yeah, that's a movie where like on Christmas Day, too many people find out too many things. Yes. All at once. It's like a lot of surprises in addition to the presents. I confuse it routinely with Meet the Coopers. Is that what it's called?
Starting point is 00:08:46 I've never seen Meet the Coopers. Is that what it's called? I've never seen Meet the Coopers. Coopers. I always screw up the title of that one. But it's also Christmassy and Diane Keaton is dying. She can't keep doing it. It's so weird how similar they are. But Family Stone, yes, I've seen it. Thumbs up. Luke Wilson, right?
Starting point is 00:09:09 Yep. Yeah, I like that movie. Matt, what do you think? What's your holiday favorite or go-to? Gremlins is a Christmas movie, not a Halloween movie. That's my heart take.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Yeah, I agree with you on that one. The arguing about whether any movie is a Christmas movie or not, I think it boils down to let's at least agree whether or not Christmas is an element in a movie. Let's just say that. Because lots of movies have no Christmas scenes. Other movies have Christmas scenes. So they're sort of christmas movies let's face it yeah but it's also an atmospheric thing too you know right it has that cozy feel everything's just that's look delicious it's yeah it's an atmosphere and i can't help but think of watching that at like
Starting point is 00:10:02 the new beverly or something that's's just, that's the move. Yeah. Gremlins is, uh, you know, it's really splits the line so beautifully between, you know, horror and like a children's movie, you know, like the way it has so much of each and doesn't, uh, you know, it doesn't put off anybody too much. Although I've known people over the years that are fairly triggered by it for various reasons, you know, like I just think it's a gremlin, but other people think, wow, that's a living thing in a blender, you know?
Starting point is 00:10:37 Oh, like weird childhood, like you saw when you were young and still see it. Yeah. I mean, the movie pretty much like uh you know paved the way you know pg-13 was created because of gremlins and uh temple of doom yeah were they both wait was that same year they were both they were close enough together that uh everyone was just like damn and and that's why they said let let's make a PG 13. I knew the temple of doom. I didn't realize gremlins was in on that. That's cool. I'm pretty sure gremlins was in on it, but, uh, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:15 Spielberg in general, you know, cause poltergeist was a pretty insane PG as was Raiders. I mean, there was stuff stuff there's stuff that horror movies get an R for somebody's face melting off and Raiders of the Lost Ark got a PG yeah how about the fact that PG-13 in uh in Temple of Doom it's like a guy gets his heart pulled out of his chest you know yeah yeah it's like well if you're 13 he can he gets his heart pulled out of his chest you know yeah yeah it's like well if you're 13 he gets his heart pulled out and shown to him and then he gets lowered into a pit of fire like you know it's really kicking a man when he's down it sure is uh and it's a it's yeah it's aggressive it's
Starting point is 00:11:59 aggressive and the this the same movie has a you know little kid with I know it's like a voodoo doll situation, but he's got a dagger in the back of this voodoo doll, and he is grinding it around while Indiana Jones is just writhing in pain. Like, it is torture porn. And it was a PG-rated affair because, you know, the studio system and whatnot. And money. It's all about money ultimately uh rory for your money i'm gonna go with scrooged all right there you go this this really went this lit this list the three of you just went from sweet to cynical.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Boom, boom, boom. Scrooge is really something, isn't it? It is. I mean, yeah, it's a great movie. I love it. It seems to be the product of like Bill Murray was just at the time everyone was just like very, we'll just do whatever you want, Bill. Yep. And so that was his choice was to be just horrible through the whole movie.
Starting point is 00:13:13 And then when he's nice at the end, still horrible. Yeah, he's still not a great, nice guy. No, very physically abusive. When he's in the part where he's nice. very physically abusive when he's in the part where he's nice. Just talk to Bobcat Goldthwait about how much you like being thrown around by Bill Murray. Not much. All right. So those are three terrific suggestions though, because Scrooge is a really, a really fun movie. There was a station.
Starting point is 00:13:40 I think they only did it one year, like two years ago. There was some station that was like, let's do a, let's pull a Christmas story TBS move and do 24 hours of Scrooged. And I really watched way more of it than I should have, but I also did it out of respect for the choice and that it probably wouldn't happen again. You know, most of it was pretty recent, wasn't it? Yeah. I think it was within the last couple years
Starting point is 00:14:06 but what didn't happen last year and i forget where it happened it was like maybe it was amc or some something uh one of those uh and uh i i would hope they'd do it again because i think it's a nice antidote to christmas story you can like flip back and forth between the two. Thanks for those recommendations. Excellent stocking stuffers, stocking stuffers, all of them. And we'll be right back after this break. We're going to play some trivia games in a moment. We are back. And the first game today, I hope he doesn't mind was inspired by
Starting point is 00:14:48 one of my guests and this game is called very blue clues i get it i will say a quote from a motion picture that is very dirty, has a dirty word in it or an F-bomb in it, but the overall sentiment of most of these is quite dirty. So I'll be sure to stop by HR right after this episode. But I am going to blank out. I'm going to say blank instead of what I consider to be the dirtier words in the sentences. And just based off of that one line, each of you will get a shot at guessing what movie it is from. We'll start with Kinise. I'll say a line.
Starting point is 00:15:42 You make your guess or just say pass if you have no idea because some of these are, I don't know why anyone would know what they're from, but, you know, you never know. You never know what people know. So if Kaniece misses it, then we'll go to Matt. If Matt misses it, we'll go to Rory. If everyone misses it, nobody gets a point. We start over with Kaniece.
Starting point is 00:16:02 But if somebody gets it, the next one will start with the next player uh here we go kanice all right what movie do you think has somebody saying the words i'm so hungry i could eat the blank end out of a dead rhino i have absolutely no idea, but I am very concerned for this character. That is next level hungry. And I don't even know what I don't even know what that means. That's just one of those ones that doesn't really make
Starting point is 00:16:40 any sense, but sounds it'll make more sense to everybody when you find out who said it but knies has no guess matt do you does that line ring any bells for you all i'm thinking is it sounds like chris farley said it but it's not stick my head up a butcher's ass hey wait don't start saying ones that are coming up later in the game okay so i'm just gonna say tommy boy but that's not it right no no it's not tommy boy
Starting point is 00:17:13 but that's a terrific guess uh roy any idea i have a guess on this one i think it's like gary bucey and point break that is exactly why it sounds like that, because that is that. It is correct. I know that movie very well. And then Utah goes to get hot dogs, and he says, Utah, get me two. Yeah, and just other, I mean, you know that I could eat the blank hand out of a dead rhino was very pure Busey. Busey at his best pre brain injury, pre brain injury.
Starting point is 00:17:50 He was talking like that. His character in that movie. I, the last time I saw it, I just marveled at the energy that he brings to an absolutely nothing role. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I, I happened to recommend that movie quite a bit to uh younger you know people in their 20s when they talk about keanu reeves i go you know sleeper sleeper keanu reeves like i'm also a big swayze head so you know anything with yeah you're out of your mind with uh happiness with that all of of that, all those people. And if you have anything against Anthony Kiedis, it's also great.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Zero. Zero. He gets shot in his foot. His foot gets shot. Do we want to do a separate podcast about Lori Petty? I mean, she has had an interesting run. Yeah. Iconic, that woman. She's the kind of woman that when you see somebody you go oh that looks like laurie petty you know i mean that look 100 is all all credited to like you know like courtney cox for a while and friends had the laurie petty all right um All right. Who is Lori Petty? Yeah. She was in, you know, she has very short hair most of the time, dark hair.
Starting point is 00:19:17 And she was in A League of Her Own with Geena Davis and Rosie O'Donnell. And she was in Tank Girl. She played Tank Girl. Thank you. Yeah, there you go. I was so confused. Most recently, Station 11. She's in Station 11, if you watch you. Yeah, there you go. I was so confused. Most recently, Station 11. She's in Station 11, if you watch it. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:19:29 That's a good haircut for a firefighter. Rory's on the board with one point. We go back to Kaniece for this next one. What movie is the line, your mother sucks blanks in hell? I'm going to say The Exorcist. That is correct. I'm glad you knew that one because that seems especially rude to say to somebody.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Congratulations, Kenice, you're on the board. So some of these now, as you can tell, are going to be pretty famous lines, and others are going to be ones that only Rory knows. Got it. Now, what movie do you think has the words, respect the blank and tame the blank? Two different words, those two blanks I don't know I feel like this is a popular one too
Starting point is 00:20:32 let's go to Rory what do you think Rory my guess on this is a totally random guess but it's going to beory. What do you think, Rory? My guess on, this is a totally random guess, but it's going to be Boomerang with Eddie Murphy. Okay. Not a bad guess. PG-13, I think was that movie. Not mistaken, but incorrect.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Kniece? That is Tom Cruise and Magnolia? That is correct. Yes. Yes. It's a really awful one to say out loud. Oh, definitely. Also doesn't make much sense. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Respecting and taming are weird. Okay. Matt, you get to go first on this next one. I hope this rings some bells. Okay. Matt, you get to go first on this next one. I hope this rings some bells. I beat the blank out of some kids today, but it was on purpose. I beat the blank out of some kids today. No. I mean, I'll put a guess that it's kick-ass but i don't think that's right either no that's not it
Starting point is 00:21:52 rory i'm sorry muted i'm going to go with days and confused not a terrible guess i saw a line from days is confused and i thought about using the part something parker posey said but incorrect khanis for the win if you know this one unfortunately i do not know this one i i've seen a few movies where middle-aged people, teenagers beat up children, but I cannot think of anyone saying that line. All right, that's fair. Yeah, I just thought of a good one.
Starting point is 00:22:34 The good children getting beat up is at the end of Will Sherrill and John C. Reilly's Step Brothers. There's some really good child beating in that if you're into that sort of thing. This was a terrific performance by Mr. Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Wow. Also thematically terrific to bring up. There was a chance today one of you might have suggested Bad Santa as your holiday movie, which does happen each year in this month. Who went first on that one?
Starting point is 00:23:12 Matt did. So we're back to Matt again. We got this Matt. Okay. Well, blank me gently with a chainsaw. What's that from? I had to throw that in there.
Starting point is 00:23:35 It's not Chevy. Is it? Is it Christmas Vacation? Is that R? is it uh christmas vacation is that r well i i'd say that could be the one f-bomb that you get in a pg-13 but it can't be can't be sexually violent like that i don't yeah yeah um so that's it i don't know but when somebody says that i'm gonna punch myself yeah You'll recognize it once you hear Rory. That is Christian Slater and Heather.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Yeah. I think a girl says it though. That's just, that's just my opinion. One of the Heathers. I thought he goes, cause I always remember it in his, is his like Jack Nicholson impression. Yeah. I think the girl says it but i could be wrong i think the nastiest you know the meanest girl of the says it i think but either way it's in there for sure uh and uh so now rory and kaniest are tied up
Starting point is 00:24:41 uh with two points piece and kanianiece you get to this next one again for the win if you know it I can smell your blank the blank is it front door or back door I was imagining a follow up question Blank. Is it front door or back door? I didn't imagine a follow-up question like that.
Starting point is 00:25:13 I don't know if it's fair for me to say. I'm going to abstain from saying which door. Well, I'm going to be real upset. If I don't know which door we're talking about, I'm going to be real confused about this movie. I'm so sorry. I do not know this movie. Oh, really? So you don't have a guess based on...
Starting point is 00:25:30 Smell? Smell it? I can smell your blank. Yeah. I can smell... Oh, is it Silence of the Lambs? That is correct. Yes! So front door. You did it. It was the front door, which of you know that's everyone's going to check
Starting point is 00:25:47 the front door first uh when making a delivery or stopping by to say hey and uh congratulations kines you did it the tiebreaker was going to be uh yippee-ki-yay, mother blanker. So, of course, the first person to get to respond would have gotten that one. But Canice gets to go first in our next and final game, the game that determines our winner today. And we'll do that right after the break. We'll be right back. All right, we're back. And Kniece won that last game, as you may recall.
Starting point is 00:26:30 I don't know how long the commercial break was, but there's your update. It was a long one. Kniece was our winner. She gets to go first in a game. I don't know if you've played this one, Kniece. I think Rory has. Of course, we know Matt hasn't.
Starting point is 00:26:46 But it's a game I call Weird Algorithm. Weird Algorithm. I don't think I've played this before. I'm excited. I'll tell you all about it. And Matt and Rory, of course, can listen along, too.
Starting point is 00:27:03 There's an algorithm on the imdb website that uh i check into because you can take the cast of any motion picture tv show any project that's on imdb you can take the cast of that thing and reorder them uh in order of popularity instead of their actual billing. And you can change it to their popularity based on the star meter on IMDb, which of course is just a continuously flowing river of people's names rising and falling based on how often people search their names on IMDb. So it's a very current, very fresh game because I just looked at IMDb a couple of hours ago
Starting point is 00:27:58 to get these answers. So I'll name a movie and And then Kanice goes first, then we go to Rory, then we go to Matt. Each of you will play three rounds, so each of you will get a chance to go first. And you can have the same answer as someone else in this game. I'm going to name a movie,
Starting point is 00:28:20 and then you tell me who in that movie you think would have top building based on a popular index of today i'll even tell you some of the names of the people that are in the movie just to give you some options The first movie we're going to do is from 2022, the, what was it? Fifth installment in the Scream series that they decided to just call Scream. Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Jack Quaid was in that one.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Marlee Shelton's been in a few of them. David Arquette, of course, is dewy in a lot of them, all of them. And more people were in that one. Who do you think would be the number one most popular person, according to IMDb from the cast of that screen. I'm going to guess Courtney Cox. That Friends
Starting point is 00:29:33 money, I think she's going to be in the top rankings for a while. Okay. Let's move over to Rory. Who do you think from that? It's David Arquette, Courtney. Who's the other one? Nev Campbell, of course is a, she's been in all of them,
Starting point is 00:29:55 but not the next one. Cause of, uh, you know, money disputes, uh, Marley Shelton, uh, David Arquette, oh, Jack Quaid, I mentioned. So who's trending highest right now on the audience? Who do you think from that movie? Part of me wants to say Jack Quaid because of the boys, but I'm going to go with Nev Campbell because of the
Starting point is 00:30:17 thing you just mentioned, the pay discrepancy and the not being in the next movie. Okay. That was certainly a pretty big story. What are you, what are you thinking, Matt?
Starting point is 00:30:29 I mean, I, to, to be the odd man out, I think it's, I think it's Jack because of the boys. I'm just going to, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:36 based on what's relevant right now, that's the boys. Uh, what, where are we at with that? A new season just came out or is about to uh he's in something else too right now isn't he i think he shows up in uh some other ip that we haven't seen him in and that's all i'm thinking is is you know
Starting point is 00:30:59 because like a star meter will be like who's's doing recent stuff, right? Or will it be, I guess. I think it's pretty up to date and also tied into like, like certainly if somebody had died within the last couple of days that was in this screen, they would be very high up, higher up on the charts than normal. Yeah. But that's not the case in hopefully in any of these
Starting point is 00:31:26 movies I picked. That'd be that'd be weird. They'd be like having a Deadpool game. So who do you do? Who do you think they're Matt? Mine was Jack. Oh, Jack Wade.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Yeah. OK, so let's go back to Kinesis after everything you've heard other people say. Are you would you like to stick with Courtney Cox? I'm gonna stick with Courtney Cox on this one.
Starting point is 00:31:52 She's cool. She seems neat. Yeah, let's stick with her. Okay. And Rory wants to stick with Nev because she's in the news for getting snubbed. Yep.
Starting point is 00:32:08 That's true? You want to do that? And me. All right. So, Rory, right off the bat, you get one point because Nev Campbell is indeed the third listed. She's third on the list. So, that's worth one point. But then Courtney Cox
Starting point is 00:32:30 and Jack Quaid did not make the top three. They are number two is Kyle Gallner who everybody knows and loves, right? Who hello yeah see this is where this is
Starting point is 00:32:52 where it'll surprise you he is currently starring in a massive uh horror film hit called smile ah and so that and he's in that scream so that boosted him up here and i also you know i don't list off every single name uh because i like there to be some surprises and number one is a young lady who is just 10 more 10 times more famous than you know 10 000 more times famous than she used to be uh and was already pretty famous when she accepted the role of wednesday on the series of the same name jenna ortega wow is number one she's in screen they say that in the last 10 days since wednesday dropped on netflix uh she's gained 10 million instagram followers
Starting point is 00:33:44 Netflix, uh, she's gained 10 million Instagram followers. It's a popular show and she's, she's at the center of it. Um, so yeah. X two, right? Yes. She was an X. Yeah. That was the first time I saw her. That's correct. Yeah. She's, she's been a few things. Uh, you know, she didn't, she didn't get Wednesday out of nowhere. I think she's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Okay, so that's the first round. Now you get an idea of what's going on here, sort of. It's still always hard to figure these out because they can be pretty surprising. This next round, we will start with Rory, and the film is The Ice Storm. Do you remember that movie? I do remember it. I do remember it, yes. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:47 I'll remind you of some of the people that are in it. Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Elijah, little Elijah wood, little Tobes, Toby McGuire, Katie Holmes, apparently is in it. I don't remember. Allison Janney, David Krumholz, the great David Krumholz, who great David Krumholz, who, of course, entered all of our hearts when he was in the Santa Claus with Tim Allen as the head elf named Bernard or something like that. But anyway, Ice Storm.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Ang Lee movie that, I don't know if underrated is the right word. It was critically acclaimed, but, uh, dark. Yeah. Very dark. Doesn't seem to be a perennial. Like people don't throw it on in the winter time. Um, who do you think of those people or others you may think of that were in it? Uh, who do you think would be uh high up on the list rory um i feel like i want to say because avatar 2 is coming out i'm going to say sigourney weaver is oh okay is she in avatar 2 i don't I'm just making, I know nothing about Avatar 2,
Starting point is 00:36:07 but she was in Avatar 1. Yeah, she was. I wouldn't put her in Avatar 2. So I'm going with Sigourney Weaver. Yeah. What a career that lady's had. She's, I mean, alien Ghostbusters and Avatar for fuck's sake. I mean, that's the biggest movies. She's been kicking ass for a long time. That's a gory.
Starting point is 00:36:26 We were. Yeah. Good for her. Good for you for selecting her. I don't, I feel like she's not in avatar too. I feel like avatar too, is like almost all on the Navi planet.
Starting point is 00:36:40 So you may hear her voice. So I take it back. She's probably involved, but anyway, it just looks like an animated movie to me now at this point if they're just going to spend all their time uh you know on the planet with all the navi people so if you're into that part of it as long as they're going after unobtainium i'm i, you know, I heard it's hard to get like impossible. Any movie that's main plot point is going after a war called unobtainium.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Oh, well, you know, but that stuff's easier to get than the impossible. It's true. Yeah. Versus why not power your, uh, your stuff with obtaining, you know? Yeah, no, that movie has, it's always been silly to me. And the wait for this sequel, you know, I still think it'll be a huge hit. And at the 3D, it'll be amazing. But I just can't, I can't imagine that finding the story compelling. Whose turn is it?
Starting point is 00:37:49 What's happening, Matt? What do you think? You said Tomi Aguirre, right? He's in it. Yeah. Then I just got to go to the Marvel angle.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Just, yeah, there's some snowballing effects still from Spider-Verse and all that. Absolutely. I think that was huge for him and for the other dude. Okay, Denise. I'm going to guess Christina Ricci based on the Wednesday thing, because I think she has a guest star appearance in that.
Starting point is 00:38:21 Oh, okay. I haven't seen all of Wednesday yet, but I've been kind of surprised by the size for a role like i thought it would be more guesty but she's like uh she's one of wednesday's teachers at a special school for uh kids who have uh you know powers of some kind and wednesday's powers are that she can do anything apparently and do it well um okay so anybody want to change their answer based on stuff everybody else said i'm sticking i'm sticking with sigourney i'm sticking with christina yeah okay well two of you uh are are doing doing some uh bad stick in here because
Starting point is 00:39:09 number three was mr david krumholz who must be in something right now that people are fired up about but i can't i don't i don't know what it is. Two is Allison Janney. I think people should be just generally fired up about all the time. She's got a movie that just came out on one of the streamers called People You Hate at the Wedding or People We Hate at the Wedding. And number one, you sniffed it out, Kameez, is Christina Ricci. She's got that being the originalnesday and being in the show i think it's just been a real real huge bump for her not to mention her uh her work on uh yellow jackets yeah she's very entertaining on that so kanice now has three and Rory has one. And Matt has been a great guest so far and gets to go first,
Starting point is 00:40:12 this third and possibly final round of this game. And everyone's excited about enjoying. It was just in theaters for a week. And now Ryan Johnson's trying to get it back in theaters again before it ends up on Netflix, or even while it's on Netflix. The Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion. But I wanted to do now, because the cast is so stellar and they're all up to stuff, the original Knives Out. So
Starting point is 00:40:43 Matt, you've got lots of people to choose from, including Daniel Craig, Anna DeArmas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Chris Evans, Tony Collette, Noah Segan, friend of Doug Love's movies,
Starting point is 00:40:59 Noah Segan, and Don Johnson are just a few. Christopher Plummer, what do you think matt i think it's uh i mean it's got to be obvious it's got to be daniel craig because he was in the new one too uh this is true he's still benoit blanc yeah in the uh in the new film and it's just like they just gave him so much more like funnier stuff to do like the character's even funnier than he was in the first movie oh my god and uh so for this role more so than any other role he's ever played i think i think so. And then this one, when you just see him, like, just the things he does, it's just really... I'm very excited
Starting point is 00:41:51 about the Knives Out universe. Like, the idea that he could just keep making star-studded murder mystery movies is... I'm all for it. Okay, so Daniel Craigig the former james bond is matt's choice um kenise what are you i think who are you eyeballing here am i violent chris evans uh he's in the marvel movies he was voted people's sexiest man alive i don't know if it's a democratically elected process but he's he's high up there yeah chris evans is um quite uh quite an item these days but he's buzz lightyear um okay rory i'm gonna i think chris evans sexiest man alive the very good guess but i'm gonna take it in a
Starting point is 00:42:52 different direction and say katherine haunt oh yeah he was the new sexiest man alive i already forgot that he was that he won that that's how it was annoying i was between little means to me i found out when it came out it was annoying wait why is it annoying because he's because i thought i had it this year for once but chris evans got it again i just shocked to even hear that they notify the person that was you know second place yeah it was weird what no i'm being sarcastic i was like damn that is hard okay okay it's just a joke yeah but i mean you know what a joke if you're gonna have somebody not get your joke you're basically she basically bought you could be the she was in on the fact that it was viable so i appreciate. So that was a real compliment.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Anyway, for me, that worked out great. Oh, Catherine Hahn. She's in the current one. She's not in the first one. This is only off the first one. Yeah. We're just saying, we're just talking about knives out. The original knives outcast who could be, then I'm going to say Jamie Lee Curtis because she's, she was just so good in that everything all at once, whatever the fuck that's called. And she's got some Oscar buzz.
Starting point is 00:44:17 I'm going to go on Jamie Lee Curtis. Yeah, everything, everything, everything, everywhere, all at once is, yeah, it's definitely a big deal for her. And she, of course, finally ended her run in Halloween films, allegedly. I didn't see the most recent ones. I don't know how it ended. But, you know, never say never. It's a famous Sean Connery quote and movie.
Starting point is 00:44:46 All right. Anybody want to change their answer? Did I ask you, Matt? Yep. I'm Daniel Craig. Oh, yeah. You went Daniel Craig. And Kaniece went with Chris Evans. And Rory is going with Dark Horse, Catherine Hahn.
Starting point is 00:45:00 But his actual answer is Jamie Lee Curtis. So that means that Matt scores one point for Daniel Craig, who came in third. Second place, you know, I think just always in the news or certainly in the gossip columns these days is Anna DeArmas, the news or certainly in the gossip columns these days is uh anna de armas um currently very notable for playing maryland in this show on netflix i haven't watched because it sounds like it's uh just uh you know brutal and unnecessary but uh you know I'm sure she's probably good in it. And then number one is our friend,
Starting point is 00:45:52 who I look forward to seeing on the Eight Guests of Hanukkah show I'm doing at Largo in Los Angeles on December 18th. It's Rikki Lindholm, who you may recall was not only in Knives Out, I left her out when I was listing people, like I did with Christina Ricci in the movie before. But Ricky is also, she plays Wednesday's therapist on Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:46:23 So she got a huge bump on the star meter. She's number 11 of all actors and actresses and people on IMDb. So very happy for her. And Cadice, you did it. You won the game with that Christina Ricci poll in the last one. So you are our winner today. Congratulations. Thank you. This means a lot to me. Let me ask you this, Kadees. Who do you think would be number one or high up on the list?
Starting point is 00:46:55 This is going to be the tiebreaker from the first Home Alone movie. That is so hard. Wait, who plays the dad in it? I remember someone being like, oh yeah, the dad's somebody famous. But I love that, oh, what's her face from Schitt's Creek is the mom. She's fantastic. Catherine O'Hara.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Maybe Catherine O'Hara, but not Macaulay Culkin. John Heard was the dad, and he passed away. John Heard. Oh, and he passed away. How recently? How much, like, are people still into it? Not that recently. So you're better off with Catherine O'Hara.
Starting point is 00:47:37 I'm going to go with that, then. What about you, Matt? Do you have one from Home Alone? Yeah, it has to be Catherine O'Hara. What about you, Rory? Home Alone? Yeah, it has to be Catherine O'Hara. What about you, Rory? Home Alone. Yeah, I mean, let me just let me go through who's in Home Alone.
Starting point is 00:47:53 Daniel Stern. No, no. Got it. I mean, I'm trying to think if Colton's not doing anything. His brother's up to some shit. It's got to be somebody from that movie. It's got to be Catherine O it's gotta be somebody from that it's gotta be captain o'hara they're all nominated she came in number four uh an actress named kristin mentor who i don't know what she's up to these days but apparently played a small role in that film uh
Starting point is 00:48:18 it's number three but matt colkin is number two and one, just put a smile on my face when I saw it today, because he's got a cameo in the movie is, is the late John Candy. I was just thinking that. Yeah. Yeah. He's like the poker King of somewhere. And they run into him at the airport.
Starting point is 00:48:40 Sheboygan. Sheboygan. Yes. There you go. All right. Bonus point for Matt for Sheboygan Sheboygan, yes there you go, alright, bonus point for Matt, for Sheboygan and congrats again to
Starting point is 00:48:49 Kaniece, would you like to promote your stuff now, that's what you win, so you get to do your plugs first yay, if people listening could buy my album and you'll probably be able to stream it but I think the people who made the album want
Starting point is 00:49:05 me to say to buy it uh it's called follow-up question and it's i made it through blonde medicine and they're great and it's my debut comedy album so if you don't buy it you are saying that i should quit that's just the facts uh yeah so don't don't do that. Go ahead and buy it so that Kniece doesn't quit. And I hope you can come back to the show real soon. Would love to. And we'll discuss that later. And thank you again. Matt Stowski.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Blue's Big City Adventure. Just the one adventure? Just one. I did want them to go to Japan and hang out with some Shibas, but this is New York City. Yeah. I mean, there's so many. You can get into more than one adventure
Starting point is 00:50:05 in new york city so the one that blue does get into is probably pretty pretty intense yeah but it's hard it's g so no it's yeah what's the running time on that it's just over an hour so you know the little ones uh won't become too distracted and uh but you know, the little ones, uh, won't become too distracted. And, uh, but you know, there, there's a lot, there, there's a lot of stoner reviews going on YouTube right now. It's, um, you can watch it too. We made it for, for the older crowds too. They just like colorful MGM musical. So I promise it's, that's for everybody. Well, I mean, I, you know, I wanted to see it before we started talking today. And now, now that we've met electronically, I'm, I'm super into it. And I'll, I'll let everybody know how much I love it. And thank you for doing this. I appreciate it. Anything else you want to plug?
Starting point is 00:51:04 for doing this. I appreciate it. Um, anything else you want to plug? No, that's it. Paramount plus the, and until I book another job, that's the one. Get that, uh, get that free trial, everybody, you know, whenever I see that there's something on the stream or that looks good, that's what I, you know, that's what I do or recommend people to do is because you just got to remember unsubscribe is a key element because that's where they get your money. I have so much money on that table of just people that forget to unsubscribe.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Rory, what are you subscribing to these days? You got anything that you subscribe to? Just in general? Yeah. Yeah. You know, I've been subscribing to some stuff. I guess I get some great emails from chewy.com that come in that I'm subscribed to, you know, they let me know when like bully sticks are on sale.
Starting point is 00:52:01 I mean, it's pretty exciting. I don't know. That's a dog thing. That's a dog thing. It's a it's pretty exciting. Um, I don't know. That's a dog thing. It's a dog thing. It's a dog thing. Yeah, no, I don't really have any. What kind of dog do you have? I've got two. Well, Sarah has a dog. She has a little, um, it's our dog now, but she's like a little black Chihuahua mix. And then I have this giant big Husky, uh, Mastiff mix that, uh,
Starting point is 00:52:23 so we have this little house full of one giant dog and one pretty dog. It's, it's pretty awesome. That's that's, that's all. It's really fun. Um, but the two sticks are for the big dog. Yeah. The little one now thinks they're for her too, because she's, you know, thinks she's got what it takes to chew on them, but she gives up pretty quickly. Just give it that old college try. The old tiny dog try. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Um, well,
Starting point is 00:52:52 thank you for joining us again and finally resolving your, uh, championship status. I know he stuck me out. It's devastating. I brought in a ringer. I got to admit, just to, just so I could stop calling you and bothering you. I do look forward to seeing you again. First I lose people's sexiest man alive and now this. Yeah. But I should say for anybody that's in the LA area on Monday,
Starting point is 00:53:17 December 12th, the four matches Sarah Silverman and myself and Rory will all be doing sets at a whiskey business at the bourbon room. Yeah. That's fun. That room. That's, it's, that's like a rowdy room. Have you done a show over there yet? Yeah, I've done. The only show I didn't do is the one you were in.
Starting point is 00:53:36 I didn't make it down there that night, but I, I, I do every show they do there because it's just, it's just packs full of people that are, it's just super fun every time and really great lineups. You know, it's probably in addition to the three of us, it's probably some, some hacks, but it's cool.
Starting point is 00:53:58 But come on out to that. If you're in the LA area, also, if you're in LA on December 18th, I'm at Largo, San Diego, December 26th at the American comedy company irvine california december 28th at the irvine improv sf sketch fest in january all my dates and deets are at the gloves movies.com matt st, since you're a first time guest, let me ask you, do you have a, like a favorite last line from a movie? Like, uh,
Starting point is 00:54:30 yeah. You know, something that somebody says at the end, that's either, either an amazing line or just sums up the movie or what, for whatever reason you like it. Do you have a favorite? I do. Could you share it with us? uh one word fuck oh this is a fun game does anybody rory do you know what that's the last line of i have absolutely no idea what that's the last line sounds familiar kanice do you have a guess? I don't. Just the word fuck.
Starting point is 00:55:08 Oh, man. I would guess if it was TV, I'd guess that show dead to me because Christina Applegate says fuck constantly. That'd be a fun last thing for her to say on that show. Okay, so what is it, Matt? A size wide shut.
Starting point is 00:55:24 Oh, that's right yeah such a cool last line and it's not it's a verb it's not a uh expletive oh okay it means something with the story which is right right that movie's a trip all right well and Well, and also a Christmas movie. Okay. So there's Christmas decorations everywhere in some scenes, right? Oh yeah. New York city is all lightbulbed out. So it, and I do think new Beverly plays it this in December too. So it's, it's seen as a Christmas movie on a lot of people for sure. Yeah. That's awesome. All right. Well, that's going to be my, I close every
Starting point is 00:56:05 show lately with the last line from a movie, so I will close it out with that today. Thank you again to my guests, Kanice Mobley, Matt Stausky, and Roy Albanese. As always,
Starting point is 00:56:22 fuck. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Eyes of gold is viewing prowess. always fuck.
