Starting point is 00:00:00 Doug hates candy wrappers screening baby sticky seeds with 50 as it pop or kernels in his teeth. There's still not one that he won't see because Doug loves movies. Hey, hey, hey everybody. My name is Doug and movies are my jam. This is Doug loves movies recording on Sunday afternoon, May 19th, 2024. My guests today are Samantha Ruddy and Kate Willett. Hello. Hey Doug! in progress, but I don't want to drag anybody for not showing up because who knows what the issue might have been, but it's happened very rarely with the show that we've only only have two guests, but I think if it's gonna happen, this is a good one. Let's meet them individually and alphabetically by first name.
Starting point is 00:01:04 and alphabetically by first name. A returning champ to this show is here. It's Kate Willett. Hey, Kate. Hey, I'm so happy to be back. Yeah, welcome back. Tell us about your special that's out right now. So I have a new special out on Amazon and Apple TV and YouTube and it's called
Starting point is 00:01:26 Loopholes. It is 45 minutes of jokes about relationships, astrology, politics, what else we got in there, tradwives, a bunch of different stuff. I think it's a really fun special so I'd love if you checked it out. All right. Well, I'm happy to promote it again at the end of the episode so that people don't forget. And our second guest who managed to be here today can be seen with me at Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia on June 15th. It's Samantha Reddy.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Hello. Hello from sunny Philadelphia. I'm excited for June. Yeah, I think it's going to be a super fun show. It's in the afternoon, like I like to do at at four twenty. Michelle Balloon is going to be there. And Michelle, one of the more fun last names to say and You've got something to promote though other than being on my show. Yes, I sure do Tell us about it. Very excited
Starting point is 00:02:37 about What's a couple weeks from today? It's gonna be my first comedy special Baseball mom is out may 28th You can get it on Amazon you get it on Apple And I'm really stoked about it because I worked very hard on it and it's about ten years of jokes. Oh Wow Yeah, yeah, it was a long time coming Yeah, you just accumulated them over the years and then boom, it's a special. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:05 So like all of the fat has been trimmed. It's really tight and I'm just super excited for people to watch it. Yeah, I don't. I do not enjoy a fat. I don't want to fat shame any comedy specials, but I shouldn't be fat. I didn't even realize how messed up that sounds. Let's we'll just cut my whole promo out, you know. Oh, that's OK. I'm sad if that helps.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Oh, no. Am I allowed? OK. I think, yeah, I think it's I didn't. It wouldn't have been bad if I didn't make such a big thing out of it I just thought it was a fun way to describe the comedy that uh, you know, the fat's all been shaved away And it's just lean jokes Yeah But thank both of you for being here today
Starting point is 00:04:00 And before we play some games, which is going to be extremely competitive with just the two competitors, I'd like to get a recommendation of a motion picture that you are passionate about for some reason or another and we'll start with Kate. Oh man. Okay. So this is, I shouldn't have thought of this, but okay. I did just see a movie that I know got a lot of hate in the reviews, but I thought it was really good because of the acting. I saw the Civil War movie and I just thought that Kristen Dunstan's performance in that movie was just so amazing. She is an incredible actress I know the movie got hit in the reviews, but I really loved it. I think she's one of the best actresses of our time. I heard, yeah, the things I heard about that movie made me like
Starting point is 00:05:00 not see it in the theater. I will certainly see it eventually, but I wasn't drawn to go to a theater because it just seems a little too weirdly scary right now. Yeah, I mean, it's interesting because it doesn't, like when I was thinking about watching it, I thought it would kind of be like, you know, taking what's happening right now and sort of extending it to the worst possible outcome. But it's kind of a very fantastical scenario, like Texas and California aligned to secede and the reasons for the war are
Starting point is 00:05:36 not really spelled out. It's more about like the kind of ethics and experience of being a war photographer. And I don't know, I just thought she did just a really good job. I mean, a lot of the criticism of the movie was that it kind of doesn't take any political stances. And I hear it, but I just I thought the acting was so good. Yeah, Kristen Dunst is is just a terrific actress I'm looking forward to when you know, she starts just winning awards constantly because She and her husband Jesse Plummins are both great and they you know, they love working together She's I'm excited for her next movie. She's in the next Ruben
Starting point is 00:06:26 Ostrand movie, the guy who did Triangle Sadness. Oh wow. Yeah, it's called The Entertainment System is Down and it's about all the chaos that happens on a long flight when there's no nothing to watch and you know nothing to do I will have to watch it I just my head was like oh my gosh that's like that's that's the one that's too real for me you know yeah no he gets into some really like, because the Triangle of Sadness, it just bumped, you know, I haven't ever gone on a cruise on a smaller ship like in that movie, but it's still had some, you know, things that reminded me that like, whenever I go on a cruise, it's kind of, you are kind of rolling the dice, you don't know what, you know, what kind of you are kind of rolling the dice. You don't know what you know, what kind of horrible weather you could possibly encounter. But.
Starting point is 00:07:30 All right, Civil War, it's it's it's it's on the record. Kate liked it. Samantha, what's your recommendation? I just watched Late Night with the Devil and I loved it. It was so good. I loved how it was shot so much. Also, I'm sorry for my delay. I was muted for my first three seconds.
Starting point is 00:08:01 I was just about to be like, did we lose you? And there was such a good dramatic pause ultimately, because you were there the whole time. It's fun. Yeah, I guess it did seem like a really like emphatic late night with the devil when in reality, I was just scrambling with my microphone. You know, we should have had like a ticking sound or something, but that movie David death mulchin first of all is a friend of this show he's been a guest on it and you
Starting point is 00:08:32 know he's another person that he's always he always plays creeps and everything you know he's a good character actor in that regard but it's fun I mean he's still a little creepy in this movie too but you know yeah but he's the lead and a more more straightforward character than he usually gets to play. And but just just the filmmaking, just the way that just the balancing act of essentially you're just watching a talk show, like you see what happens during the breaks, but it's really like just watching a TV episode
Starting point is 00:09:04 of a TV show where things get weird, just play out and it just the the pacing of it and the pacing, Doug, the pace, the best pacing I've ever seen. Yeah, well, because you know, they have to go to a convert, you know, in the movie, they still have to be like a real talk show and go to a commercial every six minutes. And then during those times, people are running around and you get to see all their
Starting point is 00:09:28 behind the scenes conversations and stuff. And it just really, it's just really, I don't know what the word is, you know, just captures, you know, a TV talk show so well. Yeah. And then just all these creepy ass things happen where it's like, you know, it feels like it escalated any moment, you never know when it's gonna really. Yeah. It's almost like a wait for it video on Instagram, like where, you know, they tell you,
Starting point is 00:09:59 you're gonna have to wait a minute or two then something is going to happen. And that's how the whole movie is. It's always like, you're on the verge of something crazy happening. Yeah, I was like slightly anticipating something like the whole movie. Yeah, it's really well done
Starting point is 00:10:18 and probably an extra interesting experience on your TV. I saw it in a theater and was just really impressed by how in a theater It didn't feel stupid to be watching what looks like TV But oh, yeah. Yeah to flip upon it on your actual TV There's going to be people out there that think they're watching a real talk show if they land on it, you know at the right moment Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh for sure That would be so fun that would like ruin my grandma's day. This will be the Civil War and Late Night with the Devil are,
Starting point is 00:10:58 you know, terrific picks because they're, you know, I believe both probably still in in some theaters and then will show up very soon on like pay-per-view and stuff. And I always do little, not always, but I often do polls on ex formerly Twitter where I, you know, list the movies that were recommended by I guess just for fun and just say, you know, list the movies that were recommended by guests just for fun and just say, you know, which do you like the best? And I, it'd be interesting to see how these two movies play against each other in that poll. But enough about that. Thank you for the Rex. We got to take a break. BRB. We're back and we're gonna play some games.
Starting point is 00:11:51 And like I said earlier, the competition is gonna be extra intense because there's only two players. It's a two player game. This first one we're going to play is called Something Something and the Something Something. Lots of movies have titles that name the main character and then something else that's key to the story or movie like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Can you think of any Kate or Samantha, any titles like that? Man, I know there's a million titles like that, but now all of a sudden it's not coming to my mind. Right. And then sometimes it's just the name of a person and no end though, whatever. But it starts like it's going to be one of those. I've taken some classic movies that don't have that style of title and changed it.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Change the title to that format. So your job here is to figure out what movie it is based on the lead character's name and then the additional information so Kate's gonna go first if Kate misses it then Samantha gets a crack at it And whenever somebody gets a point the other person gets to start the next route ready ready
Starting point is 00:13:30 This first one is for Kate. Okay, I'm ready. You get the first guess. These aren't super easy, so don't beat yourself up about it if you can't figure it out. This first one is Shelby Eatonton and the emergency orange juice. Oh, my gosh. That does not sound familiar at all. Yeah, I swear. I swear I've never heard that last name before. And I've seen the movie a couple of times. I didn't know that was the last name. Maybe they say it at some point, but Shelby Eatonton. I mean, I've never seen Eatonton as a last name. E-A-T-E-N-T-E-N, Eatonton.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Yeah, that's wrong. Her name's a typo. Shelby Eatonton and the emergency orange juice. I Kate? I don't, I'm sorry. It's okay. I'm like, you know, addicted to game shows, especially when it comes to games. I'm addicted to games. I'm addicted to games. I'm addicted to games.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I'm addicted to games. I'm addicted to games. I'm addicted to games. I'm sorry. That's okay. I'm like addicted to game shows, especially the daytime ones. And it's so funny on, let's make a deal and price is right. The people are so excited to be there with Wayne Brady and Drew Carey that that's like almost enough.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And then, and when they lose, like when somebody gets zonked on, let's make a deal, they start saying to the host, it's okay, it's okay. No, it's okay. This one's hard. They apologize and try to make everybody else feel better about their loss. No, I'm not sad.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I'm not sad at all though. Yeah, no, it's cool, it's cool. I was, you know, I'm really more of like a TV versus like movies person. So it's like fine, you know, it's fine. I'm not embarrassed. Yeah. I don't know if you will be.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I have no clue either, dude. I got no clue. I'm thinking about, I can't stop thinking about Tang. I don't know why. Oh yeah, she could be like an astronaut. Yeah, I was like, it's like an astronaut movie. I'm like, how did I get there from Orange Juice? It's a gravity star. Sandra Bullock would be a funny, uh, but that I would come out and say Tang.
Starting point is 00:15:58 If it was probably, yeah, to make us go on reference. Um, I. Yeah, I don't I don't know either. All right. Well, Shelby Eaton was played by Julia Roberts. And yeah, and her mother's name is Lamine or something like that and played by Sally field fry green
Starting point is 00:16:37 In the ballpark and Yeah, I'm like why do I mix those up? Why am I so sexist? Yeah. You are so sexist. Women, all the same. Yeah. Oh, these fucking chick movies. With their tomatoes and their magnolias.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Yeah, it's true. It is, you know, definitely two movies that anyone can mix up because just the fact that they're led by, you know, and their stories about women is already, you know, gonna make half of the population get confused. But, and they just came out around the same time, but the worst one is Shirley MacLaine's character is named Weezer. And they say it a lot and I just never get comfortable with some lady being called Weezer.
Starting point is 00:17:32 Her name is Jonas. Yeah, say it ain't so. Her name is Louise. That's a nickname for Louise. But yeah, every time I hear it, I do think of the band. That's a nickname for Louise. But yeah, every time I hear it, I do. Weezer is a nickname for Louise. Yeah, because it's spelled O I S E R. We like Louise.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Oh my God. O I U S E R. Weezer. I'm going to think about this the rest of my life. I mean, you know, it's based on a play. I think that, you know, all the characters had really flowery, silly names. And then, and the reason I called it
Starting point is 00:18:11 in the emergency orange juice is because Julia Roberts is a diabetic in the movie. And at one point she's having a, you know, a seizure and Sally Field, you know, great actress has to run around screaming get Shelby some juice Long time ago and it's really good. Yeah, it's And bad it's a sad one but alright so Nobody got a point on that one, but there's still plenty of opportunity.
Starting point is 00:18:48 We'll start with Kate. Alright Kate, let's see what you do with this one. Okay. Dottie Hinson and the Rockford Peaches. Oh my gosh. Man. Okay. I'm going to guess that this is. Is this. Dottie Hinton. That's like very 1940s. I feel like this is. Man, is this okay. I'm going to, I'm going to gonna take a guess but because I think I did see
Starting point is 00:19:28 this kind of not too long ago is this a league of their own yes it is a league of their own Gina Davis plays Dottie Hinson who doesn't want to join the all-lady baseball league started during the male baseball league strike or whatever. Or maybe too many of them. I think it's the war. Yeah. Yeah. It's a strike. It's a strike. If you'd rather go kill people than play baseball, you're on strike from.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Yes. Oh, my God. Doug thinks that a field of dreams is a World War II movie. The baseball strike, I love that. But she's a good catcher but doesn't want to play, but her sister really wants to play and the only way the team will take her sister is if they both play. So the sisters stand up for each other throughout the entire film. And then I liked that movie, but I never cared for opening a movie with people in old age makeup
Starting point is 00:20:39 and then closing out the movie with people in old age makeup. I never liked that. It was a real classic 90s move. Yeah. I feel like that. Yeah. They loved that. Yeah. Like saving Private Ryan to be 15 minutes shorter if we didn't have to see Private Ryan like I'm old now and I. Well, you know, there was a lot of jobs for old age
Starting point is 00:21:02 makeup artists back in those days. So, you know Yeah, and they won Oscars for it all the time like the makeup category Generally has like three nominees and it's the movies where people where a main character is old or an alien or something Yeah, what are makeup artists doing these days? They're you know making a you know, beautiful Highlights, you know making a you know beautiful highlights you know like Kim Kardashian's highlights and low legs or whatever you know I want to see old age I don't want to see just beautiful sculpted jaw lines. I think this last Oscars I think poor things got nominated because Emma Stone's eyebrows. Oh gosh. And they deserve. And Willem Dafoe.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Willem Dafoe also is quite a makeup job in that movie. Okay so. I was gonna keep going. I was like I feel like a lot of the 90s movies were just testing the bounds of prosthetics. They're like does this look stupid? Let's find out, you know? I feel like they were really pushing the boundaries of like what they could do because that was all they had. But now that like CGI is so good, you just don't see that level of insane prosthetics. No, and it's funny that like the CGI is often now used
Starting point is 00:22:23 in the other directions, like old actors young again, which I absolutely cannot stand. Like if it's a flashback or something, fine. But when the Irishman is three hours of this weird effect of having to watch young Joe Pesci and young Robert De Niro, it's just, it's brutal because- It's distracting. Hey you's brutal because it's distracting. Hey, you, you guys, young actors need gigs. You're already famous and you probably,
Starting point is 00:22:50 Joe Pesci doesn't even want to work anymore. I don't think so. Take a seat. And, uh, you know, it just, I don't know. It's just, uh, takes me out of it every time. Okay. So Samantha, you get to go first on this next one since Kate's on the board She's got a point. All right all right Andrea Saks and the boss bitch The Devil Wears Prada
Starting point is 00:23:20 Yes Correct. I love that movie. Yeah, I couldn't. I was trying to think of like another way to describe the situation. You really can't. It was, I mean, I got it immediately, you know? Yeah. Boss Bitch is like what that is. Yeah, exactly. That's the E-Boss Bitch movie. She kind of is like the top, like if you think about a woman boss in a movie,
Starting point is 00:23:48 I mean certainly like Nurse Ratched is like in charge of some stuff but but uh but what's her name uh uh Priestley. What's her first name? Miranda. Miranda. Miranda Priestley. She's just really, you know, they're making a Broadway musical out of it. And that's gonna hinge in pretty much entirely on how, how great the casting is of the Meryl Streep role. And Meryl Streep sings wouldn't it be wild if they're just like, Hey, Meryl Streep role and Meryl Streep sings wouldn't it be wild if they're just like hey Meryl Streep cuz like That character can be the age Meryl Streep is now. It's not like Meryl Streep was playing her like when she was super young, you know I'd love that would be wild, but I don't know if it doesn't feel like Meryl Streep would want to do eight shows a week But she's back on the next season of only murders in the building. So I'm happy to see that. Okay. So who got that one? Sam. Okay. Oh, right. I wrote it down. Okay. This is where somebody pulls into the lead.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Kate gets to go first. Let's do this. Let's do it. Helen Sharp and the whole situation. Helen Sharp and the whole situation. Yeah. And whole is spelled H-O-L-E. Okay. Okay, there is a movie where there's a lady who has a hole in her and it's from the, it's from the 90s and I did see it when I was a little kid and I feel like it had. Let me see. I feel like, okay, I totally, I do remember this movie.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Was it. Okay. Let me see. Okay. Is it, is it death becomes her? That is correct. You got there. Congratulations. Nice pull. Yeah. I was like, I remembered that it was Goldie Hawn because Goldie Hawn was my favorite
Starting point is 00:26:18 actress when I was a little tiny kid. I thought she was so great. But then I just know, yeah, now you hate her. Yeah. Yeah, she's awful. Now. No, she's um, she was one of my favorites, too. And, like, you know, if you go back and watch some of her old, old movies, early ones, she's just so great that like even if the movie's just in, she's always so much fun to watch. And of course, Death Becomes Her, she plays Helen Sharp and the aforementioned Meryl Streep was, you know, the other lead in that movie. And then now it's a Broadway musical that's coming
Starting point is 00:27:09 to Broadway this fall. And I got to see it in Chicago and it's really fun. And they really go for it with the, remember how Meryl Streep falls down the stairs and her neck gets all twisted? Yeah, yeah. They do that and they do the hole in the stomach bit and then, you know, and then lots of other stuff because the musical is like two and a half hours long and the
Starting point is 00:27:33 movie was, you know, two hours, I guess, or less. I haven't seen a musical in a long time. I really need to go do that. I mean, I live in New York. I can go stand in line and get discounted tickets. I've got to make it happen. Every comedian I've ever known that lives in New York does not go to Broadway shows. Well, I'm gonna change that. I'm gonna be a pioneer. I go to like one or two a year.
Starting point is 00:27:59 You do? Yeah, yeah, I do exactly what Kate said. This year, what did I see? I saw... I didn't enjoy it. It was the one about 9-11, but it was like upbeat. I forget what it was called. Oh, Come From Away. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:22 9-11, the musical. Yes, Come From Away. Yeah, yeah. 9-11, the musical. Yes, come from away. It's about a plane full of a bunch of people who get stranded, you know, because flights got diverted. So they get stranded somewhere. I think they're like. They get stranded in the Canadian, in Newfoundland, in Canada,
Starting point is 00:28:40 which is also kind of the Yellow Jackets plot, getting stranded in Canada. With very different results, though, in terms of cannibalism and whatnot. But so you didn't love Come From Away. What was the last Broadway show you saw that you did like? Hmm. That's a great question. Um, I'm so bad.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Because I always like I see things stoned all the time. And then I'm like, that was amazing. But I like I'm like, I don't even know what I saw. Oh, I saw. No, that wasn't what. But Doug, I'm just going to keep being like, oh, what was I with you though? I'm with you on just getting as high as possible. Yes. Because it's just it's always there's so much to look at. It's just so fun.
Starting point is 00:29:37 Yeah. It's so fun to just be absolutely, you know, and being high, you're not, you know, you're not going to bother anybody. It's not like getting drunk or doing harder drugs. It's just you're just sitting there, just taking it all in. But I totally get that feeling of like, after it's done, you're kinda like, oh, maybe I was a little too high for that one because I don't even remember what happened.
Starting point is 00:29:59 But it's just such a fun thing to do, I think. And I love it. But it's just for some reason between the cost and just also it just being, you know, not, you know, it's just still not considered like something that, you know, most straight male comics have no interest in it. Yeah. You know, so I never have anybody to bond with. I've had to become friends with people who actually work on Broadway so that I have people
Starting point is 00:30:30 to talk with about Broadway because if I start bringing it up to other comics, they're just like, whatever, dude. Like, I don't need to do it. Oh, you know, you got to become friends with John Marcos Sorresi. He is. He's all in for theater. Oh, he is. That's good.
Starting point is 00:30:44 I am friends with him. I mean, I feel like I'm friends with him. We've done each other's podcasts, but that's great to know because there's a guy named Gabe Malika who's done. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's he's, you know, done his own like one man show off Broadway and stuff. And he's he's super into it, too. So I like I like talking to him.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I had a tiebreaker prepared that's like He's super into it too, so I like talking to him. I had a tiebreaker prepared that's like meant to be easier than the others and it's Rosemary Woodhouse and the Offspring from Hell. Rosemary Woodhouse and the Offspring from Hell. Yeah. Yeah. What's that called? This is mine? Rosemary Whitehouse in the offspring from hell. Yeah. Yeah. What's that called?
Starting point is 00:31:26 This is mine? No, I'm just throwing it out there because it was just a tiebreaker in case we had a tie. But Kate, Kate's our official winner on this one. It's Rosemary's baby, but yeah, Kate got it. Yeah, I almost just said baby in the last part too. Like, you know, why not just really baby in the last part too like you know why not just really Really give it away
Starting point is 00:31:48 but Okay, you won that one and we'll find out what that means after this we are back and It's been a very exciting competition so far and Uh, it's been a very exciting competition so far and since Kate won the first game today, she gets to go first in our second and final game, which is something I call weird algorithm. Weird algorithm. Nice. Yeah. I was a giant Weird Al fan when I was growing up. I'm still a Weird Al fan, but that was my first concert I ever went to. I was eight and I got my parents to take me to see Weird Al.
Starting point is 00:32:29 I was very lucky early on in my career to be like working in Vegas and Al was there for some reason and he came he was like doing something in the same hotel that I was doing shows in. So he came to the comedy show and I met him and we've been like, you know, email friends ever since. He's always, you know, I can get him on the podcast sometimes, but he's generally, you know, just gives me a polite no because he's so busy. But that dude is one of those people where I get a uh something from him every year on my birthday. Oh that's so sweet. You know it's always just an email that's probably the thing he sends out to all the birthdays that year.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Yeah. But it's still always it's just always like fucking weird Al. It knows it's my birthday today. I'm a big, nobody gets to know my birthday person or not doesn't get to know, but I don't bring it up ever. I don't mention what sign I am or what my birthday is, but several years back, for some reason, the internet decided my birthday was May 7th. So for years I had a fake birthday.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Oh nice. I would get birthday messages on two days each year because of the fake one and the real one. But it's finally been cleaned up in most spots. But I did get enough, cause it's the fake ones in May and I did get a message for congratulating me on my birthday from like a comedy club or something that just somehow got that incorrect information.
Starting point is 00:34:09 But anyway, this game is based on their current, as in right now today, popularity based on the star meter on IMDB. So I will name a movie and then each of you will get one guess of who in that movie you think would be the most popular today based on this algorithm and if you get the number one person you get three points number two you get two points and Three you get one point anybody else you mentioned her movie isn't worth any points, but You know still shows that you Are here to play?
Starting point is 00:35:08 Let me think if there's anything else you need. Oh and answers can be shared but ultimately some somebody you know will want to win so you might want to not give the same answer as another person but we'll we'll go back and forth a little bit and you can discuss out loud your your reasoning for your choices if you want. And I'll tell you the two people that are technically thought of as the stars of the movie and either one of them could be in the top three but they might not be. So if you can think of anybody else's in the movie, that's the sort of the twist to it is that you might have to come up with somebody on your own if you can. All right. The first movie is from the 1970s, but very popular, will not go away
Starting point is 00:35:57 in our lifetimes for sure. It's called Grease. Starring Johnny Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Who do you think, Kate Willett, is the top person today from that motion picture? You know, the only person besides Olivia Newton-John or John Travolta that I could see being in would be Stockard Channing. You know, it's like, I think that it's probably John Travolta, but I'm just going to go with Stockard Channing to have a weird guess. Okay, Samantha, what do you think? I was just gonna throw in this factoid that Stockard Channing was like 33 when
Starting point is 00:36:59 she made that movie. I know it's one of my favorite fun facts. And I also gonna say her Kate. So this has thrown me into disarray Yeah, I'm just gonna go with John Travolta because you know what I would be so mad if I didn't and it was right That's a that's a terrific way to look at it Here's the so you're locked in now Kate with Stalker Channing and Samantha with John Travolta. Yes. Okay. So Olivia didn't crack the top three. She came in fifth. Number four. Interestingly enough, this is a kind of weird thing that happens on here the actor Michael being who went on to be in the Terminator and
Starting point is 00:37:48 Alien franchises he is in it like on the in the scenes where John Travolta is playing You know doing sports and it's he's not not even credited in the movie But you know once IMDB figures out there's somebody's in something not credited. They still credit them for it. Number three is in fact, John Travolta. So Kate was right. We don't know. We don't know. You don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:18 But number two, yeah, was Stockard Channing. So that's worth two more points. I don't know what Stockard's done lately that would put her in such high standing, but that was a terrific guess. I'll tell you what I was going to say Stockard Channing because a couple of days ago I saw a viral social post about her. That's what I think. That's what made me think that is I see. So I think a lot of people are looking at her on the Internet, you know,
Starting point is 00:38:45 just random, cold fandom. Yeah, she just having a moment. Yeah. Well, maybe this moment was inspired by the fact that the actress who played Patty Simcox just died. And so she is number one. Susan Buckner. Never would have guessed that one. Never would have guessed that one.
Starting point is 00:39:08 God rest her soul. Yeah. She doesn't have to cry anymore about the all of her prom decorations falling to shit. And the other girls can't be mean to her anymore. Speaking of mean girls. For the next round transition, Samantha gets to go first on this one, and it's the OG mean girls, not the current girls, but the original loved starring Lindsay Lohan and Tina Fey
Starting point is 00:39:42 and lots of other terrific actors who are still going at it. So who do you think would be number one right now? Oh my gosh. Okay, I just have to pick somebody. I forget. I can't remember what the actress who plays Regina George's name is. I think it's fair for me to Rachel something. Yeah, Rachel McAdams. Yes, Rachel McAdams. I'm going to go with her. Um, I think it's fair for me to Rachel something.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Yeah. Rachel McAdams. Yes, Rachel McAdams. I'm going to go with her. Oh, OK. She's so popular. You don't even need to know a real name. OK, my wrong dog. What are you trying to say? Kate, what do you think? Um, you know, who I've seen a lot of on the internet lately is Amanda Seyfried. Am I pronouncing that right? Seyfried? I don't know, but I've seen a lot of posts about her. Yeah. I have worked on
Starting point is 00:40:52 award shows over the years, uh, writing where, uh, she's going to be a presenter or something, and the debate about how to say her name, and then when you talk to her reps, they all have different opinions about how to say her name. Okay, good, so I'm not making myself look like an idiot, everybody's confused. Yeah, I'm always stop myself, is it Seyfried or Seyfried? Like, which one is it? Because it's never been clearly laid out for me. But she is definitely in the movie as Karen, who, you know, back
Starting point is 00:41:31 then, like the name Karen meant something different. Okay, so anybody want to switch their answers or is everybody happy with where they're at with Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried I will keep mine um I will keep mine as well okay the number three is Lacey Chabert. Okay. Number two is Amanda Seyfried. Nice. So that's worth two points for Kate.
Starting point is 00:42:19 And number one, Rachel McAdams. Yes. Who is currently starring on Broadway in a play and people say she's terrific in it. Ooh, I think I saw the posters for that. Yeah, yeah. It's, you know, I tend to go for musicals or at least things that are kind of a spectacle. Same. I tend to go for musicals or at least things that are kind of a spectacle, you know, harder to get harder to get me to go to a play, but she's supposedly terrific in this play. So I would I would certainly consider it. So we got a tie going into the final round.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Oh, my goodness. Brutal competition. And staying on the musical theme. Let's do Chicago the movie. Chicago the show still running on Broadway after forever. But the movie starred Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta Jones. Who do you think got into the top three or even better number one from Chicago? Oh, sorry. We start this one from Chicago. Oh, sorry, we start this one with Kate.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Well, this is tough because Richard Gere has been permanently an internet phenomenon for all kinds of weird reasons. But I don't feel like I've seen Catherine Zeta-Jones in a while. I do feel like I did see Renee Zellweger recently in some articles. But oh man, but yeah, like Queen Latifah is in this movie too. Okay, I'm just gonna go. I'm gonna go with Renee.
Starting point is 00:44:02 I know that's a boring answer, but I'm going with her. Okay. I'm gonna go. Yeah, sorry, Doug. That's okay. I'm gonna go with Queen Latifah, because I also saw a social post about her the other day that had a lot of traction. And I think it might mean people are searching for her.
Starting point is 00:44:23 Okay. Anybody having second thoughts about their answer? I'm having second thoughts. No Doug. I'm having second thoughts because I'm like, Queen Latifah is kind of like permanently on people's minds. And I do feel like intuitively that's probably right, but I don't want to have the same answer as Sam,
Starting point is 00:44:47 because then nobody, then we will have the exact same score. I don't know. I'll leave mine. I'll leave mine. I suspect I will regret it, but I'll just do that. I mean, I- Yes, make that decision.
Starting point is 00:45:01 A tie wouldn't make me mad. You know, there's no, you know, it's not, you know, I do have a tie breaker if, if it comes down to it. So I want you to. Okay. I'm go, I'm, I am also going with Queen Latifah and, and, you know, we, we perished or succeeded together. Yeah. This is amazing. I love it.
Starting point is 00:45:23 Have you no loyalty? Yeah. This is amazing. I love it. Have you no loyalty? Yeah. I love the, uh, sharing the same answer that is worth no points. She didn't make the top three. Oh my God. It's a, number three is Richard gear andere. And number two.
Starting point is 00:45:46 It was John C. Riley. No, he didn't make it. Number two is Renee Zellweger. And then number one is one where you go, oh, yeah, I guess she was in that. Lucy Liu. Oh, yeah, I guess she was in that. Yeah, I told you.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Oh, yeah, I guess she was in that. I told you. Oh yeah, I guess she was in that. Yeah. Man, I could've won this if I didn't change my answer. What a dummy. Ugh, why? Okay, well, I don't know. I think she shows up at the end as like, you know, the, what do you call it? You know, like the new, you know, the new killer performer, you know.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Yeah, I always remember, like, I had to do like a musical version of some songs for Chicago when I was in high school show choir. So I just forever in my mind, I just hear pop, thick, squish, just roll the chips. Yeah. That seems, that doesn't seem age appropriate. No, I don't, I don't know why they didn't. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, show choir is, I don't know if you know what show choir is,
Starting point is 00:46:58 but it's very not age appropriate in a weird way, but they, high schoolers, they have high schoolers doing it, singing, singing adult songs all over the country and, and secret outfits that are usually have come up to your neck with a turtle neck. It's very strange. You better, you better be careful. You're going to get libs of Tik TOK to go act show choirs.
Starting point is 00:47:22 Oh no. Yeah. Yeah. like, you know, like, you know, game that brings an advantage here at the end because Kate gets to pick first on this next one and this one you cannot share answers and whoever has whichever name ranks higher is the winner today. And it's back to Death Becomes Her that was mentioned earlier today starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis. There's not a lot of other characters Death Becomes Her that was mentioned earlier today, starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis. There's not a lot of other characters in it. So between those three, who do you think is number one today, Kate?
Starting point is 00:48:17 I mean, I am, and I'm gonna guess Meryl Streep because she is one of the greatest actresses of all time. This is probably wrong, but I'm just I'm doing it. OK, and that leaves Bruce Willis or Goldie Hawn. Who do you think ranks higher, Samantha? Well, the answer is Meryl Streep. So I guess Goldie Hawn.
Starting point is 00:48:41 OK. She's in the bear, OK. She's in the bear dog. Of course, she's the number one. Goldie Hawn is in the bear. No, is it Meryl Streep? In the bear wrong, she not there. Why don't I think we're in the bear? Everyone's in the bear dog. Yeah, Jamie Lee Curtis showed up on the bear
Starting point is 00:49:10 Why why did I get my wires crossed on that? What did what did Meryl Streep just show up in that? I associate with the bear I Mean if it's you know series television only murders in the building She's always passed on TV until the only other TV she's ever done is using the angels in America movie maker. Yeah, no, it's only murders. I associate only murders and the bear with each other only for the reason that they're both like sort of prestige comedy dramedy that are that kind of came on in similar times. Yeah, yeah. OK, so the bad news here is that number one, probably due to just nostalgia for his work and his unfortunate retirement, Bruce Willis. Oh, wow. Number one. OK. Yeah. And then
Starting point is 00:50:07 who said Meryl Streep? I did. Number two day, unfortunately, Samantha, I told you on was number three. Well, you could have got it. You could have got it. I know. I know. I literally had a 50 50. Yeah. Well, Sam, you could have got it. You could have got it. I know. I know. I literally had a 50-50.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Yeah. All right. So Kate, you are our winner today. And you get to, of course, come back and defend your title soon. But for now, let's do your plugs. What do you want to promote? So I have a new special on Amazon, Apple TV, and YouTube. It is called Loopholes.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Please check it out. It's very fun. And I'm also touring all over the country this spring and summer. And please follow me on Instagram for my tour dates. Kate.Willit with two L's and two T's on Instagram. I almost said that at the beginning, the two L's and two T's.
Starting point is 00:51:04 But how often is that an issue for you? You know Doug it's actually a very big issue because Kate Willett with one T she has a gmail address don't email her but she's a prankster and people will email her by accident, thinking they're emailing me. And she has gotten me into all kinds of trouble. I almost got fired from a job because of this lady. I was working on a play, actually, old school play. And the director of the play emailed. And Kate said some really mean stuff to her with profanity.
Starting point is 00:51:44 And the director calls me late, late, late at night, and was like, what is happening do you not remember that? Are you having a, some kind of psychological disassociation? And I'm like, what is going on here? Forward me this email. And then I see that it is Kate Willett with one T. So I always just do specify. I always do. I always do. I always do.
Starting point is 00:51:57 I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. I always do. disassociation and I'm like what is going on here forward me this email and then I see that it is
Starting point is 00:52:05 Kate Willett with one C so I always just do specify. That's so weird like your average person would just ignore it or eat or maybe even write back and say you have the wrong person but to just run with it like that and be weird. I think that she gets a lot of emails from me you know that are intended for me so I think that it's like I don't think that she gets a lot of emails from me, you know, that are intended for me. So I think that it's like, I don't think that she pranks every single person, but I think that, you know, because I do stand up and, you know, I must have my public person that this has become a thing in her life and she does not appreciate it. Yeah. All right. Hey, Will, ett, 2L2D. And thank you for being here.
Starting point is 00:52:48 Samantha Ruddy with 2Ds. One why? Why not? What are you up to? What can you do right now? Right now? I have a special that's about to be out. May 28th. It'll be on Apple, Amazon, YouTube, just like Kate's. It's called Baseball Mom. I'm really excited about it. Also, you can follow me on social media at Samley Matters, S-A-M-L-Y-M-A-T-T-E-R-S. Thank you so much. It's always a pleasure to be on Doug loves movies even when I'm a loser. Sorry, Sam.
Starting point is 00:53:35 On the show with me at helium in Philadelphia on June 15. Douglas movies back at the lab at the improv for one last time before we take a break for summer this Tuesday night at 730. So please come out to that if you're in LA. I'm doing stand-up dates this summer in Dallas, Arlington, Virginia, for mention to Philly, Spokane, and Sacramento, and more will be added. So check outlasmovies.com for all the dates and deets. Thank you once again to Kate Willett and Samantha Ruddy. The third guest that was going to be here today was former President Barack Obama. We'll try to reschedule. He always blakes.
Starting point is 00:54:19 Let me be clear. I love movies. Doug loves movies. I love movies. We all love movies. The. I love movies. Love movies. I love movies. We all love movies. The American people love movies. He puts out a list of his favorite movies every year, and it often has one or two movies that he had a hand in because he also like helps produce movies now. And he always likes the ones that he's involved with, of course. Barack Obama, a 24 guy.
Starting point is 00:54:47 Yeah, absolutely. He's seen Civil War I bet. Alright, well I usually end every episode with the last line from a motion picture but the reference book, I'm out on the road and the reference book that has that stuff in it, I don't have it with me so when that happens I always like to make up a final line and so I'll say what I think might have been the final line of Death Becomes Her and so as always... Ouch! Ouch. Now it's time for Doug to watch another talkie. Eyes of gold his viewing prowess makes him cocky.
Starting point is 00:55:31 There's no room in his heart for you, cause Doug loves movies!
