It'll take you two minutes and you'll be helping us out so much by doing it.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Go to gum.fm slash dLM to fill out our audience survey. That's gum.fm.fm slash dLM. Thank you and enjoy the show. Dug may be sticky seeds with 50 acid pop or kernels in his teeth. still not one that he won't see. Hey, hey, hey, everybody. My name is Doug, and I love movies. This is Doug loves movies.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Recording on Monday, October 12th for release Thursday, October 15th, 2026. My guest today are two filmmakers and a shit talker. I'm just kidding. I'm kidding, Alex. They are Yorgo Arsitas, Alex Castain, and Nicholas Curcio. Hello, gents. Hello. Great to be talking.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Let's meet everybody individually alphabetically by first name. He and I got unleashed together last week on national television, and he's a returning champ here on the show. It's Alex Kemp. Hey Alex. Hello, Doug. It's great to be here. No leash required.
Starting point is 00:02:15 That was great. It felt great. The whole world was watching it. We shined like stars. So it's glad to be here. We discussed this the last time you're on. It's always fun to do a show where you're like, you have to watch it to even see what you said on it because they,
Starting point is 00:02:31 you know, they shoot so much and then cut it down to, you know, 18 minutes of televised entertainment. So were you, how'd that work out for you? Did they use stuff you wanted to and then cut stuff you were happy that they cut? I have to send the editor like an edible arrangement like bouquet. I mean, I was going into that and it's you talked about this, but this was my first time seeing it. It's bizarre watching like a false reality. Like you're watching a thing you did, but not really in the way you did it.
Starting point is 00:03:06 I was happy with it. I think I was getting calls from people like, dude, you're so good at fake laughing. And I'm like, dude, shut up. Well, that's the funny thing too, is that, you know, much more than the previous time I did this show a million years ago, this time they were very, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:27 encouraging of all of us interacting with one another and bouncing off of each other's bits and stuff. And none of that made it into the show. It's just each of us talking. as individually. Oh, my God. Doug, that was the funniest thing. They're like backstage.
Starting point is 00:03:41 They're like, guys, we are on our knees begging you to riff with each other. And then we did. And they got all of it. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't understand. I don't understand their process. But like you said, I guess I owe the person, you know, they didn't, they only use
Starting point is 00:03:59 jokes of mine that worked with that audience that was there. So I was grateful for that. but I'm also, I guess I should also be grateful for not being in the episode very much. You were great. Thanks, dude. Now, you were back today after I incorrectly announced someone else as the winner the last time you're on. So I hope everybody's clear that you, in fact, did win on that show. And James Pound, he can just, he can pound it.
Starting point is 00:04:32 He can come back, you know, some other time. But thank you for being here today. Thank you, Doug. And good luck. He is on the show for the first time, but I'm so excited about what has happened to him. I mean, it's entertainment news just happened with this dude. And we're going to talk to him about it.
Starting point is 00:04:53 It's stillmaker Nicholas Curseo. Hey, man. Hey, thanks for having me, dude. I've been listening to this show for, I don't know how long, a very long time. That's wild. I'm always happy to hear that, you know, because the reason I reached out to you
Starting point is 00:05:15 is because I was at Fantastic Fest this year and, you know, correct me if I'm getting any of the details wrong, but they had a contest that they started at Fantastic Fest called Fantastic Pitches, where filmmakers would pitch an idea and then some judges would narrow it down and choose one to give a micro budget of $100,000 to. And then that movie has to be made within the calendar year
Starting point is 00:05:44 and then within the year of the festival, which is in September, right, Nick? Yes. So one year, so I won in 2025. And then, yeah, the movie had to premiere this September. And it did. And luckily for the entire concept, because now this fantastic pitches, I think, is going to be an ongoing thing and yield lots of, you know, great results. But like, you know, what if this first, you, the weight on your shoulders, what if this first movie in this contest turned out to be garbage?
Starting point is 00:06:19 You know, like you ended up making a really good movie under the circumstances, but the pressure must have been intense. Thank you. I appreciate it. Yeah. It was really, it was a lot of pressure for the competition because I was like, if this sucks, then maybe they just won't even do this again. And then on the other hand, there was a lot of people saying, you know, well, the public's not going to care about the contest.
Starting point is 00:06:42 It's your first movie and they're just going to judge you as being your first movie. So I think it, you know, I think it turned out pretty good. It turned out really good. And like, you know, you're sort of forced to do it, which also, you know, any of us that are involved in any aspect of show business can very easily blow, like, you know, not take something seriously until there's a genuine deadline. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:07:10 Like, I still haven't made my... I've written my first movie or whatever, you know, like, even though it's something I, you know, say that I would want to do. But here's the extra exciting part, just as a few days ago, I guess it was announced, that the film that you made, Playhouse, sold to Blumhouse and focused features.
Starting point is 00:07:33 That is correct, yeah. Just we, this all just happened. Like we literally closed the deal right before, probably 48 hours before that article came out. So it's been, it's been really crazy. And then you take time out to talk to us for an hour. Of course, yeah. I really appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:07:55 I thought it might be weird timing with all this going God for you. But, you know, the movie's done, or will you do more to the movie now that now that someone else has stepped up with some money or is it done done? You know, everyone keeps
Starting point is 00:08:11 asking me that. And as of now, it's looking like we're not going to do anything just because they feel like they're really happy with the film. There's going to be, you know, we got to add the focus features logo at the beginning. Yes. But
Starting point is 00:08:27 Yeah, but other than that, unless there's some Something crazy happens I think it's going to be the version from Fantastic Fest, yeah Well, I saw it at Fantastic Best and enjoyed a great deal And one of the things I loved about it was that it is the perfect runtime It is an hour and 25 minutes long Yes And I just wish more especially horror
Starting point is 00:08:53 But films in general just need should just start cutting back to that time frame. Fully agree. And so that's the thing I wanted to ask you is that if you weren't making it for a hundred grand, like if it had
Starting point is 00:09:09 an actual budget, do you think the movie would have been longer? Was it an hour 25 because you had limitations or because you chose you really wanted it to be that length? No, it was we wanted it to be that length. The first cut, I believe, was like
Starting point is 00:09:25 two hours and 15 minutes. So we had a lot of a lot of material, even though we only shop for like 15 days. And then, yeah, a lot of it was the advice that I got early on was when you're editing, just cut out all the bad stuff, cut out all the stuff that didn't really work. So we did that. And I always wanted it to be 90 or under. I'm also a big fan. I just watched Awake from 2007 a few nights ago. That was like an 85-minute thriller. phone booth, I think is like a 78 minute thriller. Yeah. I love a, yeah, I love a movie that doesn't overstay.
Starting point is 00:10:02 It's welcome. I think you can get a lot of brownie points for not overdoing it, you know? Yeah. And these days, if you've got a story that you can't tell in like hour 45 or two at most, then go ahead and expand the story and get a deal to do a series on streaming somewhere, you know, because now we have that avenue. like we don't have to be forced to watch a five-hour movie in theaters these days when it could just be chopped up a little bit and put it on streaming, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:32 or we chop it up ourselves if you don't want to sit through the whole thing, you just pause it whenever you want. Like, so anyway, I could talk about this stuff all day, but we've got other stuff and another guest to talk to. He is a filmmaker and returning champion as well. you're going up against a couple of champs today Nick and that is Yorgo, Arsitas, hey Yorgo
Starting point is 00:11:00 Hey Yorgo Hey Doug and everybody else I know you're here For the love of the game You know I reached out and said Hey you want to come back and defend your title And you're like, hell yes Can I do it on Indigenous People's Day?
Starting point is 00:11:14 I was like call it whatever you want Just be there And I like to make up conversations but what do you in fact have something to to promote right now oh certainly yeah yeah okay let's do it yeah i did a documentary about um uh outdoor art exhibits around the california desert like around palm springs comes out of friday for comes out friday for tablet hotels um and yeah i went to a whole bunch of different places, went to the Noah Purifoy Museum, went to Slab City. Have you ever heard of
Starting point is 00:11:53 Slab City? No, I love it. Just the sound of it is great. Yeah, it's a crazy place that's an unincorporated city, really kind of near Nevada and Arizona. And they have this massive mountain that's been painted, just beautiful colors and everything else about it is kind of like this weird kind of rolling junk yard where people just take trash and put it together. I guess it's called junk data is the type of art they do. And I went to the Salton Sea, where on Bombay Beach in the Salton Sea, they have these gorgeous, gorgeous art pieces there. And I went there and it was like 110 and close to the water and under sea level.
Starting point is 00:12:41 And it was absolutely, absolutely miserable. but it was a lot of fun. It was me going around seeing a lot of, because Palm Springs has like a specific kind of art, you know, kind of like to match the mid-century, modern kind of thing. And the whole desert's massive and there's a lot of space to have outdoor art.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Like there's a, in the Burigo Springs Valley, yeah, there's, there was an eccentric millionaire who, you know, Avery Labels? No. There's like, I bet you'd recognize the logo, but Dennis Avery hired some guy he was driving down the highway and saw some guy making a steel Tyrannosaurus Rex in his studio and hired him and all around the Barago Valley there's like
Starting point is 00:13:26 hundreds of steel dinosaurs and like ant eaters and a whole bunch of stuff just emmeshed inside of the valley because I guess the the millionaire wanted it to feel like prehistoric times yeah and uh it is truly a sight to behold, like truly incredible stuff. And yeah, it was very, very fucking hot. And how is it? What's up? How do people see this movie? I go to tablet hotels.
Starting point is 00:13:55 It's going to be on tablet hotels, uh, uh, YouTube page and their, uh, Instagram. And what is what is, tablet hotels is a chain of hotels? No, tablet hotels is like a, it's a boutique hotel curation site. Oh, okay. Yes. Where they show a whole bunch of different, uh, boutique hotels. And they've had me, they've been sending me places to go like check out the area and kind of get a feel for, um, the culture of areas and what's going on instead of just being like, hey, here's a must see that you got to check out. Right.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Like last Friday, they released me going down to Valle, to Guadalupe to go check out how a Mexican wine country is doing. And it's, uh, I just like literally got back from Carmel by the sea, uh, which I don't know if you've ever been there before, but, uh, they finally added adjutantyne. numbers to their houses. They, yeah, forever it was like, hey, it's the purple house on Hudson
Starting point is 00:14:50 in between 11th and 12th. And they just added address numbers just like, maybe a month ago, they started going up. And it's really polarizing in the community, which I found to be really, really interesting. And I wanted to go check it out.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Is that the place that Clint Eastwood was the mayor for a while? Yes. Clint Eastwood was the mayor for two years. He ran on a campaign of, they weren't, apparently, there was a rumor that went out that you weren't allowed to eat ice cream cones in public at Carmel by the sea. And he was like, hey, we're doing it. There's going to be a cone in every kid's hand. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:15:29 And there's just this, he won by a landslide because obviously he's fucking Clint Eastwood. You know, it's in a popularity contest. And apparently he's everywhere. He's just like spray painted and there's the Eastwood building. He has restaurants and he's like a huge, huge part of that community still. And it's a wild community and I really liked it. They like, I couldn't believe how much I was like, wow, I totally get it. Like you want to preserve this in some way.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Well, you know, normally I wouldn't approve of being so into that guy, but in your case, you are unforgiven. Uh-huh. Good, bad or ugly. Do you think there was anyone that was pissed about the ice cream cones coming back? No, well, this is, who started that? Who even got that going? What kind of evil villain was like trying to eliminate ice cream cones? Well, no, this is how politics work is like it was not really true.
Starting point is 00:16:28 It was like ice cream cone. Oh, he just made it up that that was going to happen. Well, there was an ice cream shop that got turned down because of some zoning thing. And one of like the amendments they said was kind of like ice cream cones, but it was a mistake. but people all, I think the owner who got turned down was like, it's because of ice cream, I can tell. And Clint just latched on to it. And there's this hilarious video online of the incumbent mayor,
Starting point is 00:16:52 just being like, you can have cones. We were licking all day yesterday. I don't even know what you're saying. She's about to be in a popularity contest with Clint Eastwood. Yeah, no, that guy was done. When he heard that news, it did not make his day. No, no, no, no, no. they did not feel lucky
Starting point is 00:17:12 no all right so thank you all for being here before we play some games today I would like each one of you to recommend a scary movie for people to check out this Halloween season
Starting point is 00:17:29 or any other we'll start with you Alex okay I'm going foreign 1972 don't torture a duckling Italian film. The director, Italian name,
Starting point is 00:17:42 I'm going to slaughter it, but in honor of Sebastian destroying raw dog, I'm okay with that. Lucio Fulci. Very fun. Very, very well-done movie. Oh, Fulchie's not
Starting point is 00:17:53 that hard to pronounce. I know, but you never know with these guys. Okay, so I feel like I've heard of this but have not seen it. is it about a duckling very few ducklings
Starting point is 00:18:12 in this movie unfortunately so all the duckheads sit out for this one but it is one of those like misleading ones but it's it's very it's very good it uh sort of the way it's shot almost as sort of like a a wicker man feel like it's it's just like very
Starting point is 00:18:30 haunting unsettling doomy sort of vibe it's uh I enjoyed it And do you just stumbled upon this recently? Yeah, you know, Criterion Channel, I go down all these weird rabbit holes. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, that's cool that it's on Criterion.
Starting point is 00:18:54 So people can check it out. Don't torture a duck. Does anyone get tortured? Yeah, the viewer, if they're expecting ducks, I'll tell you that right now. I looked like a real fool with my hat on. Where are these damn ducks that I hate so much about? But maybe what country did you say is from? It's Italian.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Italian. So maybe in Italy, that's an expression. I think it is. Yeah, it's something like that. And you can feel it. It's sort of like the preciousness of like the duck, you know, like the duckling sort of thing. Yeah. But also it's funny that, you know, sometimes the translation gets weird from movies or other
Starting point is 00:19:36 countries. But I'm going to go ahead and assume that Don't Torture a Duckling is still the same title in French. It is because the poster is a duckling being tortured, like a cartoon.
Starting point is 00:19:52 You're right. I saw a poster for Chuckie today in Spanish and I think it translated to like the bad doll. I'm like, okay. He's still still me named Chuckie, right? I guess maybe. I guess maybe it's just not a common enough name or something that people will be confused.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Nick, what would you like to recommend? I am going to recommend because I just rewatched it this weekend. The Exorcist 3 from 1990. I had seen it before. There's a lot of famous scenes in this movie. There's like a really famous jump scare. But in general, I'm just fascinated by people attempting to follow up such great films.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Like I discovered Psycho 2 a couple years ago and it's actually pretty fucking good. Yeah, it is. Yeah, like shockingly good for following up such a classic. But Exorcist 2, obviously, people don't like it. There was just a documentary about how much of a failure it was. But Exorcist 3 just really fascinating. And it was directed by the guy who really really. the original novel.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Oh, William Peter Blatty? Yeah. Is it just Exorcist 3 or is there more a colon and more words? It's actually just Exorcist 3. Okay, because the second one was the heretic, right? Right, right. And yeah, now
Starting point is 00:21:24 the new ones are kind of getting back to that. I think it's Exorcist Martyrs is the new one. Oh, yeah. I barely even know how to spell martyrs. When I saw it, it looked weird. But I'm excited to see that movie is called Borman and the Devil, I think. Oh, yeah, it's really good.
Starting point is 00:21:45 I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm excited about how much people are enjoying it. And the guy that directed, it's going to be on this show sometime soon. Oh, nice. Yeah, so that's cool. and did you have you seen the so if you're watching these sequels or whatever did you watch the part two uh exorcist part two the heretic i did yeah i actually watched that right before i watched the bohrmann documentary i think that was like a couple months ago oh you had a nice little double feature yeah i mean it's it's still interesting to see you know they try to do some weird
Starting point is 00:22:28 just strange things in that movie but the Exorcist 3 kind of gets it back to it feels similar it feels like it's the true sequel yeah like Exorcist 2 aren't they like doesn't it like start off they're like in the middle of the desert somewhere and yeah it's and there's like this sort of like
Starting point is 00:22:48 telepathy stuff they're doing and they're hooking around and it's very bizarre so weird like I guess they were you know I'll learn more when I see Borman and the devil, but it just feels like they just were in that terrible position of having to like follow up such a phenomenon. That movie was, it was insane how huge it was.
Starting point is 00:23:15 So to have to do anything like, it's just too easy to be, it's too easy to be too similar and too easy to be too different. It's like such a weird line to have to walk. Yeah. But Exorcist 3, Nails it. Yorgo
Starting point is 00:23:31 Hello. Are you just joining us? This is the second time I've been on Doug Love's movies and somebody's recommended Exorcist 3 Which I want to take as a sign. I have to watch it. Yeah. Because I hear nothing but good stuff and I know Quentin Tarantino loves Psycho 2
Starting point is 00:23:50 and Exorcist 3 has George C. Scott in it, right? Oh, does it? Yes. I believe so. Yeah, he's good. Yeah, he is compelling. And Brad Doran, Chuckie. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Oh, really? How about that? Nice. I'm going to recommend when it comes to a horror movie. I'm going to go with the original Evil Dead. As I watched it maybe a year ago
Starting point is 00:24:19 and I've kept thinking about it. And it's just, I understand that a lot of people think that it's probably pretty slow, especially if you see Evil Dead too. But like filmmaking wise, there's just so much ingenuity and there's so much like stuff there that you're just like, how did this guy do this for, I guess he got the money by going to dentists and asking for money as like an investment and just made this huge movie or he made
Starting point is 00:24:49 this horror movie that was kind of a kooky and then went around the country showing at like theaters and it eventually grew into this huge cult and uh i think evil dead one i think i like it more than evil dead too just because of that of just like you can see somebody who's very very hungry and wants to be as creative as humanly possible right and then when when given some money to make another one you know uh obviously ratcheted things up a bit but also just the is the tone of that first one, it's not as silly as the second one, right? No, not at all. I mean, there's some
Starting point is 00:25:30 goofy stuff in it, and it's kind of like you can take it as campy. But it's not like straight, I don't think evil doesn't choose a straight comedy, but it's like, I don't know. It gets pretty silly. It gets, yeah. Like even the violence is goofy, you know. Yes, certainly.
Starting point is 00:25:46 And like, you know, when he starts doing that dance and the hand thing happened, it's just, yeah. Oh, that's great. And Arvia darkness is, is very, very funny too, but that Evil Dead One, I don't know. When it comes to like first features, I think that's really high up on the list for me of like, and I haven't seen Playhouse yet. I, granted.
Starting point is 00:26:05 But, but yeah, Evil Dead One rocks really hard. And I think people should check it out. I could have said this, uh, this little movie, um, called Obsession that I don't know if anybody's seen yet. Oh my God. Yeah. Obsession. The, uh, but no, Evil Dead One.
Starting point is 00:26:22 All right. Cool. Obsession has got up a few times in this portion of the show, even before I was asking for horror movies specifically. But as far as these three wrecks go, I really like how they're all like outside of the box and I'll probably hopefully look into seeing all three of them. But for now, we're going to take a break,
Starting point is 00:26:50 and then we're going to play some games. We'll be right back. Today's show is brought to you in part by Hymns. Starting point is 00:30:27 It's called Whose Tagline Is It Anyway? I'll say a tagline, you guess the movie. It's as simple as that. There's a theme that will emerge, possibly. Well, there is one for sure, but whether or not you will discern what the theme is is probably unlikely. I will start with Alex. I'll say the tagline.
Starting point is 00:30:50 you get one guess. If you get it, you get a point. If you miss, we move on to Nick. And same deal. If you miss it, then we move on to Yorgo. Whenever someone gets one right, we start with the next person in the next round. And we'll see who gets the most after six of these plus potential tiebreaker. Alex, are you ready?
Starting point is 00:31:14 Yes. Okay. What movie? Out of all the movies ever made. has the tagline Who will survive And what will be left of them Ooh
Starting point is 00:31:28 Okay Tough Who will survive And what will be left Of them Damn This is tough I really don't know
Starting point is 00:31:42 This has to be some Blowout war And war is my Not a good one Oh it has to be fictional So who will survive alien? I don't know. I'm going to go with Up.
Starting point is 00:31:59 I feel like everybody about the old guy's wife survives in that one, but a good guess. Nick? Who will survive and what will be left of them? I was trying to think of what will be left of them seems like a pun on like remains or something like that. I'm going to go battle royale No It's also
Starting point is 00:32:30 It's also not remains of the day Your go Do you know it I do not But I'm going to give an educated guess Okay And I'm going to go It could be any of these
Starting point is 00:32:46 Roland Emmerc movies But I'm going to go day after tomorrow Oh Because that movie Like the various elements that they confronted would tear parts of their limbs off, tear their arms off maybe? Well, no, no, I wasn't even thinking that.
Starting point is 00:33:01 Maybe the climate change stuff of day after tomorrow. I first initially thought 10,000 BC, but I don't know. You're just, you know, you just got Roland Emmerich on the brain. I do. The answer, which, you know, makes sense once you hear it, of course, which is what happens with these things. It's the original Texas chainsomers. Massacre.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Oh, wow. Yeah, that was one of their taglines, which to me is like, you know, seems a little, it kind of gives away that the chainsaw will actually be used. Oh, yeah. What will be left of that. All right, let's try another one. We'll start with you, Alex. And that's, you know, the first one is Texas Tainsaw.
Starting point is 00:33:45 So, like, you can start, you know, maybe thinking about what the theme could potentially be to help make these easier. And the second one, Alex, it's just three words. What movie had the tagline, The Devil Inside? The Omen? The Omen is a terrific guess, but no. Nick. I'm just going to go simple at The Exorcist. With the question mark at the end, I love it. The Exorcist is the correct answer. That was one of the taglines for that movie, which is those three words. I've seen the Exorcist,
Starting point is 00:34:35 and I do believe he's inside, you know, through the whole movie. There's no scenes of the devil that take place outdoors. But congratulations, Nick, for getting on the board. So so far we have Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Exorcist and Your Go.
Starting point is 00:34:51 What movie do you think has a tagline? The scariest comedy, of all time. Oh, wow. The scariest comedy of all time. Yeah. Well, for me, the answer, I think, is, ooh.
Starting point is 00:35:12 In my head, I'm going to go with what came out first, point test. I'm going to go Gremlin's. No. The scariest comedy of all. I don't know. Yeah. I mean, it's self-proclaimed.
Starting point is 00:35:24 It was the tagline, you know. Alex. I'm going to go with a scary movie too. No. I love just picking a number. That one makes fun of Exorcist in it too. Perfect. It's on theme.
Starting point is 00:35:45 All right. Nick? I'm going to go Tucker and Dale versus evil. Well, that might actually be true. I find this to be a bit misleading. And in fact, I guess it's a comedy, so you can be misleading in the tagline, but I don't find Young Frankenstein to be the scariest comedy of all time, but it's certainly one of the best of all time of any genre.
Starting point is 00:36:15 But, yeah, that's what they called it. And here's the thing about that. You have Frankenstein only had two taglines that are listed at IMDB. And in addition to that scariest comedy of all time, which could have also been the tagline. when sometimes it's a re-release and it'll get listed as one of the taglines. But this is so Mel Brooks, the other tagline that I never remember having seed anywhere for Young Frankenstein was, come early, get a seat.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Very practical. Straight to the point. Yeah. Come early, dot, dot, dot, get a seat, exclamation. It's hilarious. Just practical instructions. Yeah. All right. So if you don't get there early, you might not get a seat.
Starting point is 00:37:05 You know how movies work. All right. So nobody got that one. So Nick is still in the lead on this game with one point, but Yorgo, here's another shot for you. So that movie has the tagline, a nervous romance. A nervous romance. I'm going to go, so I married an axe murderer. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:29 That is. There's lots of reasons to be nervous there. That's not the answer, though. Alex? Together. Oh, wow. Nope. Nick?
Starting point is 00:37:51 The bride of Frankenstein. Oh, that's another. I liked how you all kept your guesses, you know, in line with these other answers so far but here's the first big curveball that was the tagline for Annie Hall oh wow
Starting point is 00:38:11 dude that's so funny that's what a hell the curveball what does that movie have in common with all these others we'll find out eventually but now we're back to your go what movie had the tagline
Starting point is 00:38:26 they came too late and stayed too long they came too late and they stayed too long. They came too late and they stay too long. I'm going to go John Carpenter's vampires. Okay, no.
Starting point is 00:38:49 Damn. Alex? They came to Oh, the invite. They were late and they did overstay their welcome. It was a while. Nick
Starting point is 00:39:09 Mars attacks oh God Nick you're killing it with these guesses I'm jealous of your wrong guesses I'm also like as I look at this one they came too late and they stayed too long it seems like those statements are especially the second one is kind of a spoiler
Starting point is 00:39:31 but this one was really tough this is from 1969 Sam Peck and Paw is the Wild Bunch. Wild bunch. So something, Wild Bunch, Annie Hall, Yoke Frankenstein,
Starting point is 00:39:46 and those other, those horror movies all have something in common. And Yorgo is up now with round number six and it's just turn back the clock. Turn back the clock.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Back to the future? Is the correct answer. Oh, how about the? that. Yeah. I'm belated. You didn't sit there like pounding your head trying to think of a horror movie that would fit that.
Starting point is 00:40:17 No, no. Can I also say I went to Alan Silvestri's wine tasting room two days ago. The composer, they wrote the. Yeah, the composer. Amazing music for that. You know what? Do you have a favorite score of his? I mean, Back to the Future, Rocks.
Starting point is 00:40:36 But I think Avengers is. end games score is very very good oh yeah that is that's a good one but one that i i love i just love the music throughout the movie is uh silverado oh i've never seen silverado but that's that's that's coming the casden movie right yeah i mean uh possibly kevin costner's loosest performance because he decided to be a tight ass every movie after that one i watched all three hours of the postman i know exactly what you're talking about. Like, he's fun in that, in Silverado. You know, his character is kind of nutty.
Starting point is 00:41:12 All right. So anyway, so Nick and Yorgo both have a point and we've gone through all six rounds. So we have to break the tie. And so Alex, sit this one out. This comes down to Nick and Yorgo. Nick gets to go first. If he misses it, Yorgo gets it. If you both miss it, then I
Starting point is 00:41:35 I will tell you a second tagline from that movie because we need to have a winner here. And then you go back again in the same order after the second tagline. That should really give it away. But we'll see what this first one does. Nick, the tagline is, do you like fish? Well, he likes you too. And this is in line with the same theme, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:42:05 I have no idea. Finding Nemo? No, Yorgo. Do you like fish? Well, he likes you too. I mean, I'm going to say a mammal and say free willy. No. Okay.
Starting point is 00:42:26 And then Nick, here's the other other tagline that is more memorable. I don't even remember that do you like fish thing, but it cracked me up that was listed on IMDB. But here's the other one. You'll never go into the water again. Oh, it's Jaws. Yeah. Can you believe that anywhere if they actually said, do you like fish, he likes you, too? That is bizarre.
Starting point is 00:42:53 I thought that was going to be shape of water. You were out of the running there, Alex. So kind of funny that the exorcist came up as much as it did earlier and then again in this game. And then also, Yorgo, I thought you might have been on to this theme because. Because you talked about Tarantino's opinion of Psycho 2. So I was like, oh, maybe Yorgo's going to get this. Because those all those seven movies are Tarantino's perfect movies. Yeah. God damn. I did know that. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:43:33 I figured it out because I hadn't heard a couple of it. But yeah, I knew back to the future. Like he does it on Jimmy Camel or something like that. And he's like, yeah, he said it somewhere. Somebody made a post about it with all the, you know, all the titles. together and I you know I don't know about the wild bunch but I'd say all those others
Starting point is 00:43:51 are you know perfect in their own you know their own ways like Texas chainsaws like imperfectly perfect like it's so you know it's just so nasty and low budge that that works for it but all those other movies are like especially
Starting point is 00:44:07 the screenplays like the Texas chainsaw massacre screenplay nobody's going over that to try to work on their writing but or the wild bunch in my opinion. I mean, the wild bunch is cool. I don't dislike it, but I think they came too late and stayed too long.
Starting point is 00:44:24 I unfortunately have never seen it, and it's a big blind spot. Yeah, that's a big one. You got to fix that. Regardless of that way, you end up thinking of it, it's still what we're saying. It's too important. Yeah, it's important.
Starting point is 00:44:38 All right, so Nick wins that game, and that means he gets to go first in our next game that we're going to play. right after this break. We're back. A-D-S. Our determining game today is something that I call
Starting point is 00:44:54 the little search engine that could. I typed a word into the search engine on IMDB this very day, today. And I'm going to tell you that word, and then the three of you are going to take turns guessing movies
Starting point is 00:45:10 that have that word in the title. If your guess is the number one movie on this list, you will get 10 points. If it's number 10, you get one point. Then there's all those points in between. You're each going to get three guesses total. We start with Nick makes the first guess, then Alex, then Yorgo. Once all three of you have guessed, three different titles, I will add up the scores and declare a winner today.
Starting point is 00:45:44 the word is night which I chose because it's a word that's in many horror movie titles and most horror movies do take place at night but we're just talking night we're not talking nightmare the list would probably be all nightmare in Elm Street movies if it was the word nightmare
Starting point is 00:46:11 This is just night and no other variations of it, not even a K-N-I-G-H-T. What was that movie? A Knight's Tale is not on the list. That should be Tarantino's eighth perfect movie. It's fucking awesome. A Nights Tale fucking rocks. If you say so. All right, Nick, you're up first. give me a movie that you think
Starting point is 00:46:39 scored well in the search engine today on IAMDB that has the word night in it somewhere. I am going to go night of the living dead. That is not a bad choice because it is
Starting point is 00:46:55 October and it is a classic motion picture. People should be looking up on the movie database. It is number three. on the list. That is a very, very strong start for Nick. He's got eight points for that one. Alex, did you think of that one?
Starting point is 00:47:20 Not that one. Okay, what do you got? Night at the museum. Oh, look at you. Number two on the list. Oh, wow. I went to summer camp with the child actor from that movie. it's near and dear to my heart and he would get lightly found in basketball and make himself cry like the actor he is
Starting point is 00:47:43 and it made us very upset Did he his career continue beyond the museum? No, it stopped pretty abruptly with that, but he was a good kid and he had a great smile. Jake Cherry, shout out. Jake Cherry? Yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:48:05 I wonder if he's any relation to Zach. Ooh. That guy from Severance. No relation. No relation. Because he has a nice smile too.
Starting point is 00:48:23 I'm going to go, I'm going to go Night of the Museum battle of the Smithsonian. Now, see, that's a clever move on your part, but, you know, didn't make the top
Starting point is 00:48:39 10. Oh, damn. Number 13, actually. But I'm glad that the good guys won in that battle. Yeah. Well, these days one could argue that the Smithsonian lost.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I'm sure they still got Dorothy's slippers and Kermit, you know? Oh, yeah. No, they still got lots of cool stuff, but they're also being forced to change history and stuff. All right. We're back to Nick for your second guess. How about
Starting point is 00:49:17 the classic film, The Night of the Hunter? Oh, yeah, that is a classic and people should be watching it and talking about it this time of year, but I do not have it anywhere
Starting point is 00:49:35 on the list. That's a crying shame, but you're still only one point away from Alex, it depends on what Alex is going to get on this next one. If he can make his lead even bigger. Well, is it, I know you said it's not nightmare, but is it singular night or can it be plural nights?
Starting point is 00:50:01 Oh, terrific question. It's singular. Damn, okay. Well, if that's out, I was going to go with boogie nights. Oh, damn. Night of the Hunter was going to be mine too. That's a great first feature, by the way. What about, hold on.
Starting point is 00:50:27 I don't want to mess this up. What? I'm trying to... Oh, what about a hard day's night, the Beatles movie? Yeah, that's a movie that has the word night in the title. Oh, geez. But that did not make the list. Your go. I'm going to go with some classics.
Starting point is 00:50:55 I'm going to go, it happened one night. Oh, another. Yeah, that's a great one. That's one of the only, you know, what is it that? And Cuckoo's Nest and Science and the Lambs, I think, are the only movies that won the top five Oscars. Oh, really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:14 Yeah. Yeah. You know, our best picture, best director, best screenplay, and the two leads. I think all three of those movies won all five of those. But it's not on there. I tend to say stuff like that when I have to say that no, it's not on the list. It didn't make the list. But your go, you're working on the perfect triple goose egg score, which, you know,
Starting point is 00:51:40 doesn't win you anything, but other than a place in my heart, because I love, when that happens to somebody playing this game because your guesses are perfectly good. I think my last guess is going to be perfectly good and also be wrong. Well, we're going to find out soon enough, but first Nick gets his third guess. Movie with Knight in the title.
Starting point is 00:52:02 How about Fright Night? Fright Night? Mm-hmm. Okay, I have to ask you a follow-up question. Fright Night from, 1985 or 2011 or the remake okay if somebody typed it in i think it would go i'm going to go with the original the original 1985 fright night is number six on the list yes yes so that's five more points for nick for a grand total of 13 and um now we go to Alex you can uh
Starting point is 00:52:47 There's several answers that will put you either in a tie or in the lead. What else has come to mind? I have one, but now I'm trying to go for gold. I'm going to do Night of the Comet. Oh, I love that movie. Yeah. That movie is super fun. You're about to say, but nobody cares about it.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I mean, some people. might care about it. They might be out there, but unfortunately not, it didn't make the list. Yeah. Wow, indeed. But here, your go, here's your chance.
Starting point is 00:53:33 Big Ofer. Go three for three. Big Ofer, and I'm doing it. I'm going to do two best pitchers and still somehow go over in the heat of the night. In the heat of the night is not beautiful. I'll live with it. live with the best pictures not being top ten you know what i mean there are so many movies with night uh in
Starting point is 00:53:54 the title like that's that in and of itself is pretty is pretty wild how often it comes up just night not nights or nightmare or any other nightcrawler oh it's night crawler that's one word right yeah that wouldn't count yeah yeah so there's lots of good ones i'm going to share what they are after we talk to Nick about his win today and the fact that you get to name anybody
Starting point is 00:54:23 for me to call a shithead at the end of the show Nick Oh wow Who would you like? Jason Bloom Oh man This is like the one thing that I didn't think about I know it's really like
Starting point is 00:54:42 There's so many shitheads in the world. It could be hard to pick. How about whoever works at any company who tries to cancel a movie for a tax write-off? Oh, I like it.
Starting point is 00:54:58 There's a big name you could have said. I don't think he works there no more. All right. I'm going to end up paraphrasing that, but I'll try to get the idea across. What would you like to?
Starting point is 00:55:13 Before I tell everybody the rest of the answers in this game, you get to do your plugs. When can we, there's not a date, a release date for Playhouse yet, is there? There is not a release date. Sometime in 2027, it'll be in theaters. And I will also plug a movie that I was one of the writers on called Goat, that is an animated sports movie that I think is on. I think it's on Netflix right now. Oh, okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Fun movie. Yeah, go check out Go, everybody, and then just go to your local cinema and wait until Playhouse shows up. Yeah. And have yourself a good time. I mean, congratulations. It's such a, I just think it's such a great story that at this film festival, you know, through this contest.
Starting point is 00:56:06 And, you know, the result is a, you know, a good movie that, you know, Was there like a bidding war or was it, or did Blumhouse just step in so hard and so quickly? It was kind of both. There was a couple people who were interested and, you know, that was a place that we were very excited about. We got the obsession special, the sort of focus features Blumhouse tag team. So it was a good, good opportunity, yeah. During the pandemic when people were being sent things to their homes to promote various things. Focus features had like an anniversary and they sent me a suitcase that I still used to this day,
Starting point is 00:56:56 but that was filled with a DVD of every movie that Focus Features is done. When you just physically look at them all, just stacked up, it's pretty incredible. They really, they do good stuff. And so I'm happy for you that they got their hands on Playhouse. Thanks so much, man. I really appreciate it. What's the log line of the movie? Like, what's the movie about?
Starting point is 00:57:24 Fish love you. What? The log line is, there's a young guy who inherits some money. He buys a really piece of shit house. He thinks that if he fixes it up, it'll impress his ex-girlfriend and win her back. but instead he ends up finding some VHS tapes in the basement containing a very fucked up children's TV show. Whoa, that's sick, dude.
Starting point is 00:57:52 It's like fucking Dante's part in the Twilight Zone movie, kind of. Have you ever seen that before? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know, I haven't seen your movie, but that sounds incredible. Oh, the Joe Dante, like the kid in the Corrinfield thing. Yeah, there was like, yeah, in the Twilight Zone movie, he does like this weird kind of child thing. Oh, yeah, because the kid is determining everything that's happening in and around the house, so everything looks really cartoony. Yeah, yeah, and it's like tremendous practical stuff.
Starting point is 00:58:26 And yeah. Well, this is different from that. Probably better. Well, that segment of Twilight Zone was pretty, you know, that Twilight Zone movie is so, so hit and miss. the segments, almost in a ascending order, like it gets better as it goes along. Oh, the Spielberg one is rough. It's so rough. It was like an episode of amazing stories that we had to sit through on a big screen.
Starting point is 00:58:54 But enough about all of that. We've got to talk about movies with Night in the title. Everyone's dying to know. Night at the Museum, the third one, Secret of the Tomb, that one, if you were wondering, came all the way, it came in at number 15. But here's the top 10. Number 10, Night of the Demons from 1988. Number nine, the Knight House from 2020.
Starting point is 00:59:24 So I'm feeling like these things are like showing up on streaming somewhere, so people are looking them up on I&DB. Number eight, nobody picked up on this. You know, the other Fright Night, the remake, also made the list. It's number eight. number seven a friend of the show an awesome movie called
Starting point is 00:59:44 Late Night with the Devil Ah Yeah The David Desmelchen movie That was this You know It's already like a cult movie Number four
Starting point is 00:59:57 From 2025 There was something called Night of the Reaper Yeah I'm completely unfamiliar with that movie But then we had Night of Living Dead, night at the museum. And then, of course, the number one movie, no one was going to think of this because it just played in theaters recently.
Starting point is 01:00:21 And everyone was, even people who saw it were confused by it. A movie called One Night Only. Oh, damn. Yeah, that damn movie. Damn. It was where it was like the purge, but with sex. Like as soon as you say that log line, it already doesn't make sense. But anyway, I didn't get around to seeing that one, so I don't know if it's as bad as people like to say it is.
Starting point is 01:00:53 Alex Castain, what would you like to promote? Just you can check me out at Alex Castain, C-A-S-T-A-J-N-E on everything until the next time we are unleashed.
