Hey, buddy, it's WIGER. The WGA Strike continues as of this record, which means no scripted intros here on the Doe Boys podcast.
Instead, I have another Wigers Needle fact of the week
regarding what we're fighting for.
Here's one, comedy variety writers,
which is my field.
We're talking talk shows, sketch shows, award shows,
also quiz shows, game shows, fall under,
comedy variety, which a lot of people don't realize.
I've met with a lot of and talked with a lot of
jeopardy writers out on the picket line.
If you work in that field, comedy variety, you have no minimum
when writing for streaming.
Now, not for a TV cable, that's its own thing, network TV cable,
that's its own thing, but are you talking about streaming,
which is where all content is going?
There's no minimum. There's a little no minimum that's its own thing. But are you talking about streaming, which is where all content is going? There's no minimum.
There's a little bit, no minimum
that exists in the contract.
So that's one of many, many things that we have to be rectified
that all come down to these companies
are making more money and people who make their content
are making less.
Anyway, that's this week's rant.
Now enjoy this week's episode.
Hasunori.
Now enjoy this week's episode. Hazoon Nori. Welcome to Doe Boys, the podcast about chain restaurants. I'm Nick Wiger. Along with my co-host, Barney Rubble, without the hot wife, the Spoon Man, Mike Mitchell. Yeah, I'm not a
Doe Boy listener, I'm a Doe Boy host. That's the issue. I love to do boys and my wife who used her modeling contract to pay for her astrophysics PhD. She pays
for my Patreon subscription and bought me a 2xL hot salad shirt for my birthday.
I collected every coraxe and breath of the wild.
Oh cool. I wish there were more coraxeed and breath of the wild. Oh cool.
I wish there were more coraxeeds.
In tears of the kingdom, that was my favorite part.
We're spending all the coraxeeds.
It's real.
That's how we've seen it in the wild, Wags.
It's true.
All right, dude, but also let's break it down.
Who is hotter?
Wilma or Betty dude?
Wilma all the way
All right, you like the redheads
But Betty man, I wouldn't kick Betty out of bed from eating crackers
And Barney oh
Barney's looking
Can't forget Fred. Oh, man.
I'd fucking get down with Fred. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
That was from Pat from Quincy.
Really?
Where we're about to head.
Oh, frailbot.
Pat from, no, this is a different Pat from Quincy.
It is, you know, to talk about a movie recently covered
on the podcast when they're talking about
Vallejo, California.
Like, it's a small town, but it's not that small.
In zodiac, same thing with Quincy.
It's a small town, but it's not that small. In zodiac, same thing with Quincy, it's a small town, but it's not that small.
Yeah, it's almost 100,000 people.
Yeah, exactly, yeah.
It's like Long Beach, California.
If you, Pat writes, if you use this one,
can you give a shout out to my roommate, Stefan, the animal.
What's up, the animal.
Thanks for all you do.
Love you, Spoon Man, roastspoonmanageemail.com.
I like it, I like the animal.
I like the animal.
I was trying to look at funny things in my notes app.
I was like, did I write anything funny down?
Which none of it usually is funny.
Yeah.
But one of my notes said, eat bread.
Tsk.
Tsk.
Tsk.
We've been trying to get more carbs in your diet.
I understood what it meant.
Uh huh.
It's, we got sent bread for an advertising company,
which is good.
It is good.
I'm not turning this into an ad.
Yeah.
But we got sent and I was like,
I want to eat the bread before I leave.
So I wrote down, eat bread.
That's right, Mitch, because you are about to go
to Quincy Mass for a little bit,
and we're going, that's corresponding with one,
we're about to hit the road.
This is our last in studio record for a while.
If people are watching this on the YouTube channel,
we will be doing live episodes for the next few episodes.
Those in all likelihood will not have video.
Most of these venues not letting us shoot video at them.
So, but we will have the audio feeds
in the YouTube channel as well.
Next time you hear this guy, he's going to be cranky. D.C. to New York to Boston.
That's right. That'll be a three night swing.
And then two weekends from there, two weeks from there,
we're going to Minneapolis long overdue makeup show.
And then back to Chicago, Shite Town.
And then we're done for the year.
Oh no. No.
We got to, we got, oh, we have two more.
Can we, so let's, like, let's, we gotta, oh, we have two more.
Can we, so let's, let's not get into it.
Let's focus on these dates.
One of the people know.
Yeah, but let's not get into it.
Let's focus on these dates,
because that's what we got coming in the next year.
I'm gonna bring something up again
and in my hopes that you,
maybe I shouldn't, I shouldn't blow all this now,
but we were talking to our,
I bet we get in cranky wiger a little early,
depending on what you say here. We were talking to our tour. I bet you get in cranky wiger a little early, depending on what you say here.
We were talking to our touring agent.
That's right.
And he was like, you guys wanna go anywhere?
And I said to him, the doe boys non-contiguous tour.
You've talked about this on the podcast before.
All right.
And you got so mad at me.
I didn't get mad.
After the call you went, you said to me,
why did you say that?
That's what you said after the call
Look, I know that you haven't you haven't crossed an ocean you bend a Hawaii though. I did I went to a
Why we gotta do the non-contiguous tour come on think about we got plenty of contiguous cities
We got to hit up again the non-contiguous Alaska and Hawaii how fun is that?
We'll see oh god damn it
asking who I, how fun is that? We'll see.
Oh God damn it.
We can go, it will be fun.
I mean, touring is never fun.
Yeah, this might be the final year of touring.
God damn it.
I might just be done after this.
I think some shows coming up, though, we very excited.
I think you have to make up the show in London.
We were supposed to do a show in London.
We'll see.
We gotta get, we,
but I wasn't the one who canceled that show.
That was my fault. Yeah. You make it up. It was for the tomorrow world. People needed it
You got a lot of fans over there wags
Cheerio you got a lot of fans over here wags. Oh no, wait is that Prince Andrew?
Oh no, is that Prince Andrew?
Of course he likes to. If we do a show online, it's just him in the front row.
I'm not sweating.
Okay, here we go, Wags.
Here, I'm going to hit you up with a little drop.
Wow.
Eba, play it for us. Chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chuk-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug I mean, we already are hacks. Right. Like, is that, like, I know that I'm doing it. Like, I know I'm saying how do you hold.
Does that make it any less hacking?
Do you tell me, don't?
Silence.
That's it.
Just silence.
Is self-awareness an extreme solution?
Junk, junk, junk, junk.
Oh, junk.
Lot of fun.
I want to go back in time and tell that Mitch to tone tone it down
He's just a little that's that seems it seems like it. That's from a long time ago. Yeah, I seem excited about you want to do a 17 again
I would love to do a 17 again. Here's a fun fact about me. Mm-hmm. I got shirts from the gap
That's cool and there was one that's not the story pretty fun fact
I want to say that that images IMDB but
Mike isn't for I bet you Mike isn't changing for about remember but I had a shirt that said 16 on it and a shirt that said 17 on it and
A shirt that said 18 on it and on my 16th 17th and 18th birthday. I wore
The number shirts that's cute the age I was turning. I thought it was fun.
That's really cute.
I didn't wear my stone cold Steve Austin T shirt
to school that day, which was another go to.
I had an NWO shirt.
I dressed like shit.
It's now and then.
You dressed fine.
You just got your uniform.
I'm a little frumpy.
Yeah, and I wear the same thing.
Yeah.
I did back then too.
Big thing for me back then. Sweat. Pit stains, wags. Yeah, I I wear the same thing. Yeah, I did back then too. Big thing for me back then.
Sweat, pit stains, wags.
Yeah, I got, I'm always self-conscious about pit,
and I'm probably piting now.
I got like a chemical.
You gotta keep your, keep the wings closed.
I got like a chemical grade, like in high school,
I got like a chemical grade deodorant.
Do you know this?
And I like, it just like burns,
I put on another thing, I like burns your pores. And then like, it just like burns, I put it on my thing, I like burns your pores.
And then like, it just like sears your pores off.
Yeah, don't do that.
I don't use, I don't use antiperspirant at all anymore.
I just use a deodorant, like just
nearly a deodorizing thing.
But the antiperspirants, I think it's just bad for you.
Is it really?
Yeah.
I gotta get rid of my antiperspirants.
Yeah, fucks up your sweat glands.
Fuck, yeah.
I've been using it for 40 years, what the fuck?
I put it on when I was a little baby, I've used it forever.
Is it really that bad for you?
I don't think it's great for you.
I guess I'm not.
What the fuck?
I don't know how to spoonation.
I told that story too in high school.
Yeah.
I told the story before.
When I was in a class with Mike,
it's in my foot just started to expand. I think I remember. And I had to take my shoe off and like my foot
just got big. Just what you just retaining water? I was remembering this because of Fred
Flintstone basically, but my foot got like, I was like, oh, my foot hurts. And I took
my shoe off and my foot was expanding. And then I was like, look at my foot, my foot was
big. And Mike is like, what the fuck is going on? I went, I had, I went down to the
nurse and I had to go to the emergency room because my foot got big. And it
was cellulitis.
What what brings that on?
I have no idea. I think it's sometimes like a like, I don't know, it can
be. It's just like a proper reaction. It can just happen. Yeah.
And they gave me, but but my foot got really big
and it was like, it was like incredible hulking out of my shoe.
Wow.
And then they just like squeezed it and all that mass went
into your head.
Yeah.
Take it there.
Jesus Christ.
Who sent that drop in?
Hello, Doboy's gang and guest from the driftless region
of Wisconsin.
Hello, Doboy's gang and guest from the Driftless region of Wisconsin. Hello, Doboy's gang and guest from the Driftless region of Wisconsin.
As a first time dropper, let me first say, sorry.
Secondly, thanks for keeping the laughs going throughout the tough times.
Last year, I walked away from 26 years in the hospitality industry.
Wow.
Thank you for your service.
Yeah.
And found my way into smoking,
curing and sausage making for a small local meat process.
Wow, that's cool.
The pod has been a constant treat
and perfect soundtrack for a day of stuffing brats,
rubbing pork bellies or jerkin beef.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Best of luck and warm wishes to you all, Matt. I don't even know if I can pronounce this town the town name
Barakwa Wisconsin
Barakwa
Barakwa
Barakwa
It's here that it could be Viral Qua yeah, it could be Viral Qua Viroquois. That's your fucking jeopardy friends, you fucking dork.
I'm friends with Japanese guys now, I don't give a shit.
I tell people that dude.
I say I say I did the Jeopardy Riders.
What is leaving me the fuck alone?
Sorry.
Our guest today, a writer, director, and executive producer of The Bear.
Great show. Season two premieres June 22nd on FX on Hulu, Joanna Kalo is here.
Hi, Joanna. Oh my God.
Is that, oh my God, about being here or like, what have I done? Or, oh my God, I'm finally
here. All of it. Absolutely all of it. I'm so happy to be here.
We're very excited to have you here. What is you to have you?
As you know, I listen to the show,
I have for many years inexplicably.
Inexplicably, but also the fact that you didn't say
you were embarrassed to say how do you
hone in front of me, tells me that he doesn't respect me.
I've known you for like 15 years.
It's a level of comfort, I think. I've known you for 15 years at this why I think it is. It's a team years. It's a level of comfort, I think.
I've known you for 15 years at this point.
I expect a letter of apology.
You should.
I've known you forever.
This honestly, this is something I've wanted to do
for like six years.
Wow.
Well, should we get into it?
No, we're not, I actually don't think we should get into it.
But I just wanted to say this feels like a make a wish moment.
Like I'm worried that someone's gonna be like,
you're dead because this is like a dream.
Like she's over there.
You guys are here, you know.
Nick just recently met you on the picket line.
Yeah, we've known each other.
But I saw you again on the picket line.
It's like, oh wow, and then we had a little in-person
conversation.
Yes.
And we figured it out.
I'm glad we did and the timing worked out.
Yeah.
Yes, timing worked out. We broke it down yesterday
We talked about stuff. Yes, the yeah, Mitch is a
Mitch is a
Why are you that's what this does the second
Which I love which I thought that you had told her that I brought you brought her up
I said that all right. All right. No, you said that already. No, we had this discussion. All right. Yeah
We worked it all out. It's all worked out. I'm here.
I'll be dead soon.
I love this show.
It's the first of the no-brax.
I'm so happy.
We're very happy to have you.
And hey, how can you get a better guest than Joanna
who works on the bear a food show?
That's right.
Here's my...
We both work on food shows.
Both critically acclaimed food shows. We both all three of us.
Why we have no extra respect for me because we're the same level.
I do want to get into I do want to discuss the the bear but I want to back up a little bit because
you're from New Jersey and that's a that's a great food state with a with a lot of like you know
people from Jersey I feel like have a lot of like, you know, people from Jersey, I feel like
have a lot of passion for the eats that are locally available there.
Like what makes you think a whole?
Yeah, I grew up in a really small town in New Jersey called Maplewood.
And it had, I lived on Maplewood Avenue and then you would like walk down the street
and you'd be in the main street in town.
And we had three pizza places.
And my favorite was Roman Gormet.
That's like my, that was my spot.
But then the Bagel Chateau is my Bagel place.
And I ate there every single day of senior year.
Wow.
And it's like the best.
What's your go-to from the Bagel Chateau?
There were a couple of things.
One was tuna.
Bagel Chateau, sorry.
Bagel Chateau is a great name.
It's a really good name.
That's a great name.
Yeah, it's a really good name.
So fancy.
Yeah.
Is it fancy?
No, not at all.
But that's what I love.
It's the Bagel Chateau.
Where you get your bagels.
You know how like a lot of like famous celebrity died in the Chateau, Marmont?
That's right.
Yeah, I'm going to die.
No, yeah, that's that's why we're not going to die in the Bagel Chateau.
Yeah. I mean, I would get either
Sesame Bagel Cream Cheese Tomato,
or Sesame Bagel with tuna,
but then a weird thing happened in high school
where everyone started getting the nothing sandwich,
which was a bagel tomato lettuce and mustard.
Wow.
I know, it was so weird.
It was just like a thing that happened.
Does it work though?
Is it a combo?
It's so good.
I guess I can see it.
Because the bagels are so good.
And then there would come with like really good potato chips and a pickle.
I love bagels, but I am such a cream, just a cream cheese guy on, on bagels.
Well, it's just plain.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm trying to think of like great bagels in, I mean, look, Dunkin' Donuts is the
hometown, but and I think that there are bagels actually have gone back to being better
while I actually talked about this.
They're perfectly solid.
But man, when I am in New York or, you know, Jersey or whatever, and even, hey, I've
made some bagels at home.
Like is it S.A. bagel?
Listen.
That's a bagel.
Yeah.
That place is fucking delicious. But I like, you just't you can't you can't get it out here.
I said I haven't done.
It makes me sad.
It makes me sad.
No, I know the Eastie.
To me, there's always like kind of just hard to find.
I don't know.
There's the like the the more fancy pants ones now,
like the Eastie boys and the cops bagels of the world.
I was thinking about people about you can get them out here.
You just have to go to those places.
But I know there's also like I've heard things about like, you know,
I want to say Western bagels.
I've heard someone say that they were endorsing and then bagel broker.
I think is another one that's like, you know, it's not, I mean, and I
pops is good. I mean, no disrespect to Mr. Pop, but it's not, it's not bagel.
Yeah. I, it's just that sort of thing of like, I want a bagel place like on my corner.
I wanted the bottom of my stairs.
I mean, I want to like go downstairs and have a, like that's the, that's the New York
thing.
It's like the proximity.
You got one somewhere in your body.
You go down to the bodega and they make you a chop cheese.
That's what I'm talking about, why?
So why you just live in New York?
I wanted to at one point. Chop cheese. That's what I'm talking about, wigs. So why you just live in New York? Ugh.
I wanted to at one point.
Yeah, you seem like a person.
I wanted to live there.
You're like, it's cool.
I wouldn't think it's cool.
Yeah, I did.
I probably love living there.
It is, it's fine.
Yeah, you, you, you're saying you would love it?
I would think you wouldn't like it.
You're gonna take the fucking shoe to everywhere.
Never ever get in the fucking automobile.
That's right. Yeah, what a dream. You get to walk everywhere.'t like it. You take the fucking shoot you everywhere. Never have you in the fucking automobile. That's right.
Yeah, what a dream.
You get to walk everywhere.
That's what we got to plan.
You guys should be now.
Do your tours day out there.
We should, if we move there together,
it's like, I forgot the movie.
I was the, everybody's talking at me.
You know what I'm talking about?
Oh, what are you talking about?
Basically, you know, what's your oven thing?
It's the Harry Neal's bell.
Oh, uh, Ben and Cowboy?
Yeah, I'll be Ben and I.
I'll be Ben and I.
I'll be Ben and I.
That'd be fun.
No, that's like you and Koale.
Fucking pimpy, yeah. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Can I just say that as someone who, I'm such an amateur when it comes to bagels,
I like bagels and I have a good one.
I'm like, okay.
I'm like a bagel noob.
Yeah, but this is the thing.
I don't have as much of a palette for it,
but I feel very validated by your endorsement
of Sesame Bagel, which is my favorite kind of bag.
Like a Sesame Bagel.
I really come around on,
when I was younger and I got a plane bagel
and my mom was like, they had Sesame, I'd be like,
where, where, where, where, where, I was like and I got a plane bagel and my mom's like, they had Sesame, I'd be like, whaaah.
I was like, you know, 12.
Right.
But as I've gotten older, Sesame is more of my go-to.
I still do love the everything, Wags.
I'm an everything boy.
I think it's Angapachka sometime.
I think it's the onion.
If the onion is too much.
I like, but I like the onion.
It's too much, then it's stuck with you.
It's like the levels have to be just right,
and you can never guarantee that.
Onion was my first, that was like my first bagel love.
I mean, plain was my first bagel love.
My first bagel love was egg.
Look at an egg bagel.
Oh really?
Yeah.
My first bagel love, when I would have lenders playing bagels,
and then they had onion bells.
The lenders that you kept in the freezer, which I loved.
And then I would go to the, I would walk down to the green
cells, and I would always have a bagel.
They'd be like, where's your bagel?
I told you this before.
Yeah.
And I would pull it out of my pants, and they would all laugh.
But I was like that, that was like, that was like,
I was like a bagel boy.
Like I love, like I ate bag, that was like a bagel boy. Like I love, I ate bagels every morning.
Open bagel boy.
That's a good, don't worry.
I was trapped there.
Bagel boy.
Are your bagels good?
Are the bagels fresh?
My bagels are, I made good bagels.
I mean, and there's a,
I haven't had your bagels,
your pizza is excellent.
I actually think that you would think,
because bar pizzas is, you know, it's like, I had your pizza, your pizza's excellent. I actually think that you would think,
because bar pizzas is, you know,
it's like a regional style of pizza.
And sometimes it's good and it's hard to nail
and use a lot of cheddar cheese, it can get greasy.
The bagels are just kinda straight up, really good.
Yeah.
Oh my God, I want one.
I'll make them.
I'll make them.
I'll make them.
I'll make them.
I mean, I just use a, like, it's like a New York Times recipe,
maybe I'll post it, but I maybe I don't want anyone to know it.
But, but it's good.
It's good.
Yeah, I'd love to have some.
Let's go back, let's go talk about Chicago a little bit,
because I, yeah.
I don't trust anything else, the New York Times post,
but I, I obviously make the, the bear in Chicago.
I, obviously make the bear in Chicago.
You spent some time there in favorite Chicago eats.
My favorite Chicago restaurant is a place called Cassava, which was actually like happened
to be around the corner from where my first apartment was, but it's like.
I thought you were a Chicago person.
Well, I just worked there.
I know.
I didn't know anything about it.
We just talked about she's from New Jersey.
That was like finding it.
I know that she lived in New York,
but I'm saying I didn't know that she had a stint in Chicago.
I thought she was saying before.
No, no, no.
I lived there for work.
And the apartment that I stayed in was in the Ukrainian village
and around the corner
is there's a place called Kassama,
which is like an all day cafe
and then they have a like Michelin star restaurant at night.
But during the day, you can just get like,
really amazing breakfast sandwiches
and coffee and all that.
And that's my favorite place.
And it's really spectacular.
Was there ever, no, never mind.
You got to finish it.
Was there ever like a mix up with your job where like you found yourself in the
Cubs dug out because you work on the bear?
Yeah, yes.
Yeah, a van with a bear picture of a bear on it.
And then I just opened the door and got in.
And then all, oh no.
I'm in the dugout.
They're over at the set of the show.
Like, there's directing this episode.
Oh, it's DITKA.
DITKA's a video village.
Oh, I guess you know what?
I guess I should have gone straight to Chicago Bears.
I should have gone to Chicago Bears, my sister.
They don't know.
That's good though. Also, I feel bad that I like you, I like you having a little bit more of a niche pick. Yeah, I think. Is there more of that?
I mean, it's up where you want to work and then turn out, you're on soldier field.
No.
Sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Make it up where like you went to work and then turn out you're on soldier field No
Sorry
No, it's no work mix-ups
And hey, hey and this next scene a Brian Urlacker
Has the play for the Bears is retired. Yeah, we got some new sides from Mike Singletary
My next line is says cover to hike.
Did you get to enjoy Chicago much while? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I mean, we only shoot in the dead of winter.
So the first season there were like five blizzards while we were there. Wow. Old city really crazy. The second this second season.
It was our day queen order.
Sorry.
Sorry.
Five blizzards.
Those two fat guys were on five blizzards again.
It was like that.
It's that funny thing when people are like Chicago isn't the windy.
This is when people are like actually it's the windy city because of the politicians.
Yeah.
And then you go there and you're like it's fucking windy.
It's fucking cold.
It is windy.
It's windy because the lake.
It's not because of the politicians.
No, well, they call it the the reason that I got the name nickname the windy city was because
it was more of a political reason, right?
So people say, yeah, what's fucking windy?
I don't know, that's right.
I feel like it's a thing that people always correct you on.
I'm like, actually, it's the windy.
Yeah.
Well, I'm here to go.
Like the guy who's in here right before us,
we might be saying like, actually,
who is Adam Connover, who we like.
And he's a great, and we talked about him.
And he's a great, and he's a great union guy.
We like, we love talking to him. He's doing a great, and he's a great, and he's a great unit guy. We love talking to him.
He's doing a great job.
But I feel like so many people will correct you
and say, actually, it's the politics.
Right, right, right.
But is that also one of those things?
Because sometimes it's like the origin is not really known.
And then so some other story comes about up
and then people latch onto that because it's more interesting
Yeah, my my guess okay again, we could look it up, but let's not okay. Yeah, we're not gonna look it up
But my guess is that it came from the lake effect of like it is a severely there's like a wind tunnel
Yeah, so much colder don't look it up because of because of it and then they said and
It's actually the politicians because it's insanely corrupt. Yeah.
Don't you think?
Yeah, I think that makes total sense.
I'm looking at it out.
Yeah, what is it saying?
All right, let's see here.
Why?
I have New York Times.
I have New York Times.
Wait.
But I have no, who I was reading a day,
the New Day Matthews band album review.
That's what I was reading in New York Times.
Why do you need to read the review?
Can't you just have?
I was wondering what people thought about it. I was wondering where people thought about it.
Um, they think, do they think it's bad?
They are kind of like, oh, he's like an older, you know, this is an older voice now.
Look, how many, how many musicians like catalogs age well over?
It's just like, it's, there's, there's, there's like a score,
sazy of music who just like continues making the same.
Why?
I was gonna, I was, this is the thing I was gonna talk about.
Well, they're about.
Yeah.
My, with music specifically, like, that's not true
because there are definitely older people
who have made good music.
Yeah, but it's not the same sort of thing of like,
oh, it's, I'm gonna keep evolving my sound
over the course of my career.
Sure, yeah. It's like, you know.
Is a musician's best like between 20 and 40 basically?
Is that-
I've heard this about mathematicians too.
Like mathematicians do their best work and they're very young.
Just like, yeah, your brain's good from 20 to 40 and then things.
I do think actors and I do think there's funny people who are good when they're older too.
You know what I mean?
Like, well maybe is, maybe are you just good the best when you-
Are you acting with your brain, though, with your soul?
That's a great question.
I guess I asked this because I am now 40,
and I hope you get better.
Yeah, right.
I wanna get better at what I wanna be good at something.
You're good at it.
So I'm hoping that I get better.
I'm hoping that I get better at something,
but I do think that there's a lot of creatively.
Anyways, I find why a Chicago called the Wendy's Justice from History.com. Great source. The word of Chicago's famous nickname are not entirely clear
The most obvious explanation is that it comes from the frigid breezes that blow off Lake Michigan and sweep through the city's streets
Yeah, however
Actually another popular theory,
but your hair is getting higher.
Yeah.
Gritting by, oh,
however, actually, another popular theory holds that it was coined
in reference to Chicago's bloviating residents in politicians
or deemed to be full of hot air.
Proponents of the windbag view usually cite an 1890 article
by New York's son, newspaper editor Charles Dana
at the time, we're not gonna read the whole thing.
Yeah, I think it's not super clear there a bunch of that.
I, I, I, I, what could be the article I, I looked up,
says that there's also like a talk about it being
having to do with a Cincinnati rivalry and there's also some
speculation that it's something to do with the world's fair or something.
Why is this is the line here?
This is the New York Sun newspaper,
Edward Charles Dana.
At the time, Chicago was competing with New York
to host an 1893 world's fair.
Chicago eventually won.
And Dana is said to have cautioned his readers
to ignore the nonsensical claims of that windy city.
Wow.
Wow.
Well, great.
It's resolved.
We did it.
I'm sorry.
Yes.
I was like a true crime podcast.
We're kind of like a history.com podcast.
We're in the history.com.
I'm sorry I didn't know.
I'm not on there. I'm a visitor. I'm not on there. I'm not on there.
I'm not on there, but it is a great food city.
Oh, it's so good.
I also, the first season I gained 10 pounds
the first week I was there.
Wow.
Like a media, like I just had, and I came home
with all new pants.
Yeah.
It was insane.
I just, like, yeah, yeah, I'm very rich.
But like, you know, yeah, I'm very rich.
But I but like you know because we would also when we were scouting and we shot some of the
Some of the episodes at an actual like beef place the mr. beef which is you know the show is based on and so we would go and eat
Whenever you scout you go and you eat some beef and then you go to portillo's and have your you know your scout lunch or whatever
So I would I ate very well that first that's year. That's which filming twisted metal in New Orleans. It's Chicago reminds me of that sort of thing where it's like
yes. All right lunch is heavy like like you're getting here. There's a lot of
yeah. Chicago maybe has like more like you could maybe there's more salad-y places like
no. New Orleans like the salads salads and neurons were like bad.
It was like there was nothing.
It was like, such heavy food.
Yeah.
If you try to order a salad in Chicago,
it would come with like a meat on it.
Like there would be like a roast beef.
And I'd be like, there's roast beef on this salad.
And so you'd have to order like sweet greens
if you wanted to get salad or there's some really,
there's some really there's some
amazing restaurants in Chicago and some of them you could order like the vegetables from
and that's it basically that's the New Orleans out there was no sweet greens in New Orleans.
Yeah. Oh, I love that. I love that they're like nope. Yeah. Down here we got gumbos.
That's all salad place gumbos. No salad there, just gumbos.
Oh my God.
That's at your salad place.
You want gumbos or not.
If not, I'm a sickamaggator on them.
How long were you in New Orleans for?
That's so cool.
Off and on from May to September basically.
Oh my God.
What a dream.
It was great.
Yeah, very hot.
Such a good city. Where's the opposite. Oh yeah. It was very hot. Which is it? It's just like you travel
in all the time for work. You're going to different places. You're going to different places.
Yeah. Very exciting. This is why you're trying to say this is why you're not going to do the non-contiguous
store. Yeah, I don't think you're reliable at this point. Could you open up? You're going to be
anywhere. We're moving to New York. That's fun. I would, I never got that experience to live in New York.
I, I, I think that you get this thing.
You live there for a period of time.
A period of time.
But I always feel, you know, I feel like the,
the big city people coming from New York and Chicago
and they're like, oh, you never live there.
I feel like you get, I feel.
You get a little bit of a leadism from the people who,
like I've lived in LA County my entire life,
and then sometimes someone moves out from New York to LA,
and they're like, oh, your town's cute.
You can get that out too.
You like, it's Hollywood, you came out here.
You move here, yeah.
And then they like live here for 20 years,
and they're still talking about back home.
And then with the fuck back home.
We're talking about.
This actually bonds us.
I have the idea.
It is, it is fun.
But I am jealous that they feel like in New York,
like I, being up at 4 AM, I was up till 5 AM last night,
watching Zodiac, which we watched last week.
But I, I, I, a late night place like that where you can also get food
and that's what I love about Chicago.
It's great.
But we've done Portillo's, we did P-Quads,
we've done like all of the big ones there.
But P-Quads.
Can I ask just about like the bear specifically
and in terms of like,
because you know, you're directing episodes,
you're you're you're e-peeing the show.
Like like did you specifically research restaurants?
Like were you going to kitchens,
were you like, you know,
talking front of house back to the house
in terms of constructing the shows narrative?
Yeah, we actually, we did a really wonderful thing
which is that we got to have chefs come
and be part of our room.
Oh wow.
So Matty, Matheson, who is one of our EPs now,
was originally our food consultant.
And obviously he's on the show.
And so he was like our first guy
that would come and talk to us
and just like had so many amazing stories
and we would just steal everything and put it in.
And he's built like six restaurants
or some crazy amount.
So we got a lot of stories from him,
but then we would have chefs from LA come
and talk to us and just tell us their stories.
And we didn't do any front of the house stuff
until this new season.
And so that was sort of a new angle.
We actually got to speak to the Mater D of Horses,
which is sort of, yeah.
Very much in the news.
Very much in the controversy right now.
I'm gonna tell you, I wanna kill that person.
I know.
We won't go into the details.
I don't want to get the matrix. The matrix is not specifically this. I'm not trying to kill that person. I know. We won't go into the details. That's the way I don't get.
The matrix, not specifically.
Yeah, I know.
I'm not trying to kill the innocent person.
I know.
But I think people maybe haven't heard
the story outside of LA.
It involves one of the owners.
Do you want to be?
One of the owners did something for you, Brian.
Question.
If you want to see animal cruelty.
Also, but isn't it, I believe he has said he didn't do it.
So, you know, it's an all,
an alligation.
There's an allegation. There's an allegation.
I'm just saying.
Sure, sure.
I have no idea.
I don't need the legal information.
But if what it is is true,
it's like the person I want to kill the most.
Yes, well, I will slow down dirty Harry.
We watched SOTY ACCASIL in the podcast.
It's that guy, Waggers, too, in the two spots.
You got two bullets at home.
Yeah.
One of these was for me, but actually both just to get through.
We'll keep following the story, but we had some really amazing people come and talk to
us and tell us their stories.
And the stories are really like just hilarious and sad, but also like full of these amazing
details that you wouldn't know if you didn't talk to these people.
So we felt really lucky to try to put all of them in.
I have a question that YGSA is probably
thinking the same thing too.
I'm hungry and my stomach rumbled.
It's gonna be, my stomach is rumbling.
So I apologize in advance.
I think I heard here.
You 100% heard.
This is like a high school thing.
You might get a snack.
I did eat these, I had some of them.
That's not a snack. I had some moths.
No, that's not, that's not it.
That's not it.
You know, when we take a break, maybe I'll grab a,
some sort of snack.
Okay, yeah, maybe criminal one.
I had a few drinks last night.
I was up till 5 a.m.
Uh, drunk watching.
Yes, absolutely not.
Cheers, now.
It's, I'm, I'm fucking fresh.
I'm not, I'm, I'm stressed.
I'm leaving here in a couple days.
I'm stressed.
It's gonna be fine.
It's gonna be fine.
I think Nick and I probably both have this question.
You talked to a lot of different chefs.
Did you talk to Chef from South Park?
Oh yeah.
No.
Okay.
It would have been very funny if you did.
Sorry.
I'm sorry.
He's funny.
I should say yes.
I know that's what you guys like.
Yes and.
Yes.
Thank you.
Yes and.
He was funny.
Yeah.
It was funny.
Like you're imagining.
He said hello children.
We all got to get a good laugh.
They're children.
So, okay. When you're making the show, this is a question for me. We all gotta get a good laugh. They're children.
So, okay, when you're making the show, this is a question for me.
Are you actually making real sandwiches?
Yes.
Wow.
And they're so good.
That's like a weird thing about our show
is we don't make fake prop food.
We make real delicious food.
Wow.
And then we eat it.
And is that like a thing, or is it like crew members and actors? Or like, this is fuck, that's food. Wow. And then we eat it. That's pretty good. And is that like a thing or is it like crew members
and actors or like this is fuck that's cool.
Yeah, and I mean, I think also the like we did it that way
because that's partially because that's how our people know
how to do it.
It's like Maddie and Coco, who's our other food producer.
And also the show.
She's gonna help my stomach rumbles. But they're chefs.
They know how to cook food,
but also it looks more beautiful.
That's why it looks so good on cameras because it's real.
And it does feel like you're actually in the kitchen
because it's no one's faking anything for you.
And then we actually would teach,
we taught our actors how to cook
or it would be mad at your cook's hands in there.
But for the most part, it's them.
And they learned how to do all of it, which is so cool.
For yourself, what would you say your level of on beef?
So what do you think your level of expertise
was pre-show and now and now versus now?
I mean, honestly, like zero.
Like zero and that's something I'm embarrassed about. That's okay. But I just, I'd not from there. And so I had. I mean, I honestly like zero, like zero, and like that's something I'm embarrassed about.
That's okay.
But I just, I'd not from there.
And so I had, I had, I mean, like I,
I knew French dip because of LA.
But look, every place has its regional thing.
Yes.
St. Louis has the weird cracker pizza
that everyone makes fun of.
Yes, exactly.
We have the bar pizza in New England
and, and, and, and we have our version of beefs as well.
And what is your what is a Boston beef?
You just mentioned French French.
French.
That's what the famous French dip.
Oh, French.
It was a mountain LA.
Yeah.
All right.
So all right.
So that was a minute.
The light.
All right.
Uh, the beef, the beef three ways, which is I'm going to get in trouble for this, but I'm
also so sure.
So relax.
It's roast beef. Yeah. Uh, well, yeah, I'm gonna get in trouble for this, but I'm also so sure, so relax. It's roast beef.
Yeah.
Oh yeah, I was wondering what's this.
Mayo, barbecue sauce.
Well, what together?
Is that just the three way?
And then, hmm, I mean, you can put pickles and stuff on it,
but is onion one of the parts of the three way?
I'm gonna get in so much for it.
This is just sounding like a sandwich.
Yes.
Like a roast beef sandwich.
Beef three way. Hold on.
They just are just. What did you say? That's it. That's definitely a
porno coming up. Roast beef three way. Can you just put sandwich in there? That'll
help you. I don't look at that stuff. Alright's more like a pornostum. All right. Here's, all right, a North Shore Rose,
the three way is top, bottom,
round-wear, thin sliced roast beef,
beef to bone right here.
Okay, American cheese, mayo, and barbecue sauce.
I guess that's the three.
So I was right.
And then you can add onions and pickles and stuff.
That's very Arbise.
Yeah.
It is very much like Arbise, yeah.
Okay.
And that's what we had at Kelly's.
Yes, but you've never had,
you've never had like a true beef.
On you here at Headgum was telling me
that there's a place in Boston
where it does like the three-way roast beef.
And that's a, it's called Nix, like my name.
I know, and I got so mad.
I was like, why did you tell him that?
This is now, I know.
That's gonna mix.
And now I'm gonna be there,
and I'm like, I'll take you on a bar pizza tour
and you're like, let's go to Nix.
That's what I'm like.
Do they have shirts that say Nix?
Cause that would be cool, right?
There's a lot of Nix. There's a lot of nicks.
There's a lot of nicks in,
I mean, you got a lot of like Greek restaurants called nicks.
Yeah.
Did you get them in shirts though?
I can get a shirt.
We'll get them a shirt that says fucking Nick.
Good.
Good.
Also, and I'm, I'm, I'm gonna make funny for this too,
cause you're like, how long can I stay there
and you're trying to look at your phone?
You're not gonna stay longer.
There's no way you're gonna stay.
You should stay that Sunday at least.
Yeah, I can, we'll figure it out.
You think that was a fake descent?
He was like, are like, like,
planting a seed of doubt.
Now, he didn't, he said,
how long are you gonna stay there
and you open his phone?
He didn't look at flights.
Or, no, I was looking at my calendar.
Okay.
Like, our final tour date is in Medford, Massachusetts,
a Boston area on, or for that, that three-legged tour,
we're going to DC, New York,
we're ending in Boston and Medford,
and then you're like, can you,
you should stick around for a few days,
and if I can make it work, I might do that.
We can hang out a little bit.
Wow.
Wow.
That's nice.
That's very nice.
We'll figure it out.
Look, here's what we should do.
You need a snack, because you're getting cranky. So we're gonna take a break. No, you's nice. That's very nice. We'll figure it out. Look, here's what we should do. You need a snack because you're getting cranky.
So we're going to take a break.
No, we're not.
You're going to have a snack.
We're going to come back here.
You're going to be nourished.
You have a better attitude.
Yeah.
And we'll continue with more dough.
And also, I'll have a snack for then.
You're going to burp me as well.

Hi wife, Elle's fanning.
What the fuck?
She works in the entertainment industry too, hell.
Yeah, she moonlights as a scientist.
She helped make the COVID vaccine.
These are bad.
Why, I'm, why, I'm cookie.
I feel cookie.
I was, I'm so late, I'm feeling sane.
It's good.
You're doing great.
You're doing great. People are gonna love this.
I've gone to, I've just, I try to get everything done
before I left, I feel insane.
Try these, I think that this is a bad combo.
What did you think?
Yeah, I think, I don't, I think the lime tastes fake.
That's a bummer.
That is my issue.
Joanna, that is my, with lime flavored treats,
that is always my with lime flavored treats,
that is always my issue.
I mean, like, and last, it's Skittles.
You know what I mean?
I'm like, I like lime flavored skills
because they taste like artificial.
That's just, I love this.
I love this Mickey's a lot.
I hate to, this is probably the first Miss Mickey's product
and we properly had in the podcast by accident.
I really like Miss Mickey's jalapeno.
I really like the barbecue.
Yeah, I like the plain.
This is the other plain or good.
These are bad.
There you go.
This artificial lime flavor.
It's the same problem with the Anthony Davis ruffles,
which were lime and jalapenos.
Super artificial lime flavor.
Alive flavor, artificial lime does do it.
Doesn't do it for me.
Yeah, scientists should just stop everything they're doing.
Get down to this net.
Lime taste that we need.
Figure out lime to get back to the earth
warming or whatever the fuck's up.
I'm gonna talk to my wife, El Fanning,
Tyler, the research laboratory,
come up with a better lime taste.
I'm busy finding coraxe seeds.
Thank you all.
I'm broken into tears of the kingdom yet.
It's really good.
It's overwhelming.
It's daunting.
Johnny, you fuck with a Zelda game? Yeah. I was hoping you wouldn't come up. I was going to say this is how you would react to me
20 years ago saying this to you. I was like, I'm playing Zelda. You're like, oh, okay.
That's not going to work out. But I'm, you know, I'm happy that you guys have joy in your lives.
Yeah. It does it is probably
the thing that makes me very happy. Yeah, but no, not for me.
Uh, I wanted to I want to ask about the bear again because like it's it's
so they're making a video game or not. They make it a bear game. Yeah, it's just a little bear at the football field.
And then you try to find sandwiches. Actually, this would be fun. That would be fun.
Barely going through dumpsters and stuff
would be a fun game.
But like straight.
Yeah, but there is a, I had fun with straight.
Yeah, that was all right.
Is there a great, great, great, great art direction?
Yes.
Look fantastic.
But there is like so much like authenticity
as just like as a viewer, like watching Chicago.
Yes.
A lot of that must come from your research
and from like, you know, your crew on the show.
Yes, thank you Nick.
I wanted to correct myself because I am not from Chicago,
but Christopher Store, who created the show,
is and he actually worked at Mr. Beef when he was young.
Wow.
And then his sister Courtney, Coco Store,
who was a huge part.
Don't just kick a floor chip under the table.
What are you saying?
What's gonna happen to that?
And just letting it be on the ground.
Here's my thought.
Here's my thought.
I got distracted in the middle.
I'm gonna be honest because Min just kicking a chip.
A chip fell on the floor.
And then.
And so I kicked it under the table.
That is true. Yes, that is true.
Yes.
That is true.
My thought was, I don't want to get this
to get crunched.
You don't want to crunched.
Okay.
And then I'll pick it up later.
So I just kicked it.
Your instincts kicked in to just protect the studio.
I don't want to go down and get it during the record.
I understand.
I'm just saying it looks more sense.
I'm just seeing into the future
and I'm seeing like on your KC getting down on their hands
and needs to pick up a chip that you put into the coffee.
It's a nice surprise.
I go chip under the table.
I'm not a fucking chip kicker.
I don't just fucking win the chip falls.
I don't just fucking kick it normally.
I don't know.
I didn't hear.
Yeah, how can we know? Yeah, I just think normally. I don't know. I did it in the year. How could we know?
Yeah, I just think you could have let us know.
Yeah.
Put on your chipkickers and kick some chips.
Remember that song?
Yeah, yeah.
Wait, is that a real song?
Like shit kickers, right?
Yeah.
What song is that?
Whatever.
We don't have to figure it out.
That's fine.
Whatever. So, yeah. Because it's for Chicago work to beef shop. Yes.
And then his sister Coco, who is a very amazing and impressive chef,
also worked in Mr. Beef and other Chicago places.
And then she came and ran John and Vinnie's for a while out here.
So so lots of people. And I know Chris, this great guy.
I have knew him from love, from love, my love days.
He's a nice man and he's from Chicago
and he knows a lot about, a lot about beefs
even though I know zero.
Wow.
Well, let's talk a little bit about this.
Well, this is, this is what's as funny
to now go into what our restaurant is.
Yeah, pretty far from, pretty far from B. Yeah.
Yeah.
This is a, we're talking about.
I know.
In some way, I'll say this, there are,
there are some ways that you can connect it.
Love it.
And in the way of seeing the people making your food
like in front of it.
This is a great point.
And also just like the counter-seeding,
it's kind of like, you know, it's a pretty intimate experience.
It is a way high. It's funny because like, you know, it's a pretty intimate experience. It is a way high.
It's funny because like, this is the thing,
when sugarfish went to New York,
remember I had that bad review or whatever,
but to, is sugar, this is the thing I can't understand
because I also don't know sushi that well.
Is sugarfish considered fancy?
It's like good quality sushi.
I mean, like the chef said that
it's not considered like it's not considered high.
Is it considered or like me?
I think it was.
And then I, I think it's not fancy,
but like high level.
It's like a mid-high.
I think it's kind of like a,
you know, there are better like stand-alone sushi shops.
The chef, the chef who's Kazunori Nozawa
and Kazunori this week's chain that we're talking about
is named after him.
He had like his own one store sushi restaurant
in the Valley for many years
that was like this beloved local institution.
There are all sorts of places like that
all over the city.
I think LA, by and large, is just because of its proximity
to Japan as a better sushi town than New York City.
I don't know how, I don't know how fucking,
when they expand sometimes to a different coast
and Casu-Norris also in New York City,
there's seven locations in LA and three in New York now.
Sometimes when you move a chain on the other side,
there's just some skepticism.
Like that's happened with Portland restaurants
have opened LA outlets and people are just kind of
get shit out, shit out down here,
because it's like,
it's a combination of I think just like skepticism,
a little bit of a leadism about this other city.
Coming into our town, and then also it's like,
I think we can just expand, it's just hard to get it right,
right? It's hard to like have that other location.
Yeah, like a zero, zero.
Exactly, yeah, yeah.
So, that could be the fact you, but I don't know.
No, I get what you're saying.
I guess.
A mere was saying he bent a kazoo
Nory in New York City. So he's been to one of those. I mean, I'm not saying that I don't I just I thought yesterday felt like a fan
We were in Marina Del Rey. That's right. Which is also
We were at like a
Like in Marina Del Rey is nice
So we went we went west and it's right Marina Del Rey. It's looking out on the Marina. There's a bunch of boats out there
right by the ocean.
It's lovely.
So it's not like I was saying when I got there,
like the parking spaces had grass in it.
You're like, you know,
you're in a fancy spot when the parking space has grass on it.
Right.
Uh, it's true.
You were also a little late
because like you originally went to um, Lanna Del Rey.
Yeah.
Yeah.
At her mansion. Hi. Yeah. Yeah. At her mansion. Yeah.
Hi.
Is Nick here?
He's playing video games.
Yeah.
Hold on a second.
Hold on.
We can get into this.
We can get into this.
We can get into this.
Yeah.
Lana, who is it?
I'm playing video games.
Let's see.
Oh.
husband.
I'm listening to doughboys and collecting corroxies.
Um.
I, uh, I was late.
I had a plum or cut.
Oh, okay.
I'm going to get in trouble for this too,
because I already got in trouble for my stairs.
Yes.
But I had a plum or come to install bidets.
Hundreds.
I had a plumber come in this tall bidet as some bidets.
And also I needed another thing done.
So that's the, I needed the plumber to come to my house and then I also got bidets, which
a Christmas gift to me for my sister was a bidet.
Yeah. nice.
And then we also got another bidet for advertising,
which we've never done an ad for them yet, but.
So she, I think we've done that.
We've run out.
Oh, we have her?
Yeah, we have run out.
No.
And then finally, so I got installed three bidets,
which I know people are gonna make fun of me
for having three bidets.
But it was, it was this two and a half bath,
what's your situation?
Yeah.
They both have baths and then one full bath.
Two full baths.
Two full baths, okay.
Oh god damn it.
Wait, yeah two full.
So you have two full and then one half?
And a half, yeah.
That's very nice.
That's great.
So I got the days installed.
It went a little late.
I had to go to Marina Del Rey.
That's right.
And I, at one p.m. to be fair at one p.m. I was like, I'm going to be late. There's no way I'm going
to get out of here. So I texted you guys. Yes. Two 15 or 230. And I got there at 230.
Yeah. It was fine. We had a level of conversations. But I gave a huge heads. The plumber was still
there. I didn't know what to do. But no, but then you said, then you said 227
and then I think it was like 235.
Okay, all right.
It was 235.
So what's the point of saying the exact thing?
Because Siri was wrong.
Did she heard the map changed?
It's also like a, it's a counter only situation.
They only see it full parties.
So like we were just like kind of just lingering there
for a while before we decided to just sit outside.
I could have gone, I didn't have to outside. I could have gone. I worked out.
I didn't have to come.
Everything worked out fine.
I love it.
Look, look, a joint I both live closer.
You came all the way out.
You were very accommodating.
Yes.
I wanted to come and join you guys.
It was great.
It worked out.
Look, blame it on, blame it on that fucking plumber.
That the guy who was, who was doing actual work.
He was great.
Did a great, he's a hero.
Sebastian was the man.
But yes, I was a little bit late.
Yes, it was up with the ample heads up.
It worked out fine.
We had a great time.
My calendar was cleared, so we had a lovely meal.
The first Casuinau I opened in downtown LA in 2014.
So again, this is from the same group of sugar fish.
It's a newer concept.
It's a hand roll only bar.
So I don't know how,
if people have hand rolls everywhere,
honestly, don't know,
like that's like a sushi thing everywhere.
I think people are more familiar with the cut rolls.
Yeah.
But the hand roll where it's like,
it's a longer, more, you know, cohesive piece
that you eat with holding as a handheld.
We're jumping right into the thing you'll either love or not love about.
It's just the fact that you're, it's mostly hand rolls.
There is some, what's it called?
Shishimi.
Yeah, they have Shishimi there.
But, but if you like, uh, uh, uh, uh, Negiri, is that the, yeah, yeah, that, which is just
the fish on rice, which is my is probably my favorite version of sushi,
they don't really have that.
They don't have that.
You gotta go to sugar fish for that
or some other sushi.
Not to say.
I'm not as big of a, I don't love seaweed as much.
Like I don't love the seaweed, I don't have the nori,
thank you, the rolls.
So that for me is like the, I don't dislike it, obviously,
and I know that there's a lot of great flavors,
but I don't love seaweed the most. Don't nori the most. Let us know what you think.
Hashtag just say no, if you're a skeptic or just say yes,
re. If you like, no, I was going to say thank you for saving me. But then you didn't say.
Just say yes, re. Did you like the nori that we had yesterday?
Like, I think it's, I think it's good. I just, it is like, to me, too, I, I love the
negiary because it's that sort of thing of like, oh, I, I'm tasting so much of what this
fish and whatever sauce is there. And then with the nori, you always kind of have that nori wrap over it. And especially
if you're dipping it in, but there's a lot of great flavors there. And there's a lot
of great fish and a lot of, a lot of weird stuff too. You, Joanna, not to jump into what
we got, but you did, you did kind of a more wild one, which I appreciated.
Joanna, you, because you'd pitched a few, a few different places and you had some deeper
cuts, which I, which I, which I appreciate. You, you, because you pitched a few different places and you had some deeper cuts, which I appreciate.
You talked about this place partly
because you've gotten this to go in the past, right?
Yes, I've gotten it to go and it's bad in my opinion
when you get it to go.
Oh.
The warm rice is such a great,
in that sugarfish too, that warm rice is so nice.
Yes, it's so bad.
The rice is delicious.
And then so when you get to go,
I'm guessing that that rice cools down.
It cools down, but also it's just cut rolls.
I mean, it doesn't make any sense.
Though they did then update it now
that you get this, you can get a like make it your own pack.
So it's like a tub of the stuff
and then like all these sheets of nori.
And it's very, and rice, and it's very delicious,
but it's really intense.
And my husband and I will buy it and then just the two
of us eat it.
And it's like for like five people.
So then you're just trying to convince yourself
to eat a pound of goo.
We're off.
I mean, I also, we talk about this too.
I wouldn't, especially with hand rolls,
it's like make your own hand roll, I would do bad.
We would discuss this.
Yeah, it would stress me the fuck out.
You seem to have some fun with it.
Yeah, I mean, I like that you get to customize it for yourself.
But I will say that's why I wanted to actually go in person
because I'd never been in person.
I'd only gotten it to go.
And I thought it was so much better.
You'd never been in person?
No, I never did.
Wow, yeah. All right, so I had. I'm very lazy. Well, I like food to so much better. You'd never been in person. No, I've never been. Wow.
Yeah.
All right, so I had.
I'm very lazy.
I like food to come to me.
Yeah, well, all right.
All right, you know where you are.
That's the right spot.
I had been to the downtown location before too.
And that was, I had sugarfish before.
And also, I guess probably right when it opened was 2014,
which weirdly, still pretty early on in my sushi journey
because I ate sushi when I moved out here in 2005.
Like I'd eat sushi.
But then it wasn't until sugarfish where I was like,
oh, I like this.
I like, I like, Nigeri, I like like,
a salmon sushi, I like this stuff.
But, and then 2014, I remember going in the hand roll place and I was like, I like like a Sam inch sushi. I like this stuff. But and then 2014 I remember going
in the hand roll place and I was like, I don't know if I like sugarfish more than I like
this place. Like, like, that's, that was my first thought. But yesterday, I had a really
great time. I was delicious. I was delicious.
Really, really great time. It was a lot of fun. Here's what I'll say. The conceptually,
it's like sugarfish.
And this comes from Noseauwa group,
which is a, you know,
Kesson Ori Noseauwa and Jerry A. Greenberg
is the other partner.
And their whole approach is like making this food stuff
that for a lot of Americans is like kind of like,
you know, I don't know what I'm doing here.
It's a little inscrutable.
They're trying to make it a little bit more accessible.
And so like a lot of the, like the sugarfish,
they have a plotter just called trust me,
right?
And it's just like, here's all this stuff.
We're just gonna give it to you.
We're gonna say exactly what needs to be sauceed,
what doesn't, and we're gonna tell you what it is.
And you don't have to make a bunch of decisions
that you're confused by.
And it's the same sort of approach here.
Like hand rolls, I feel like are again less common
in the US than the Nigeria or Cut Rolls.
And so they're just kind of trying to make it a little bit more of an approachable version of this
also as part of that they this is one of those places that includes gratuitous part of the bill there's no tipping it's just like there's a service charge at a
beach bill
uh... and uh... just a couple of things don't look i mean i'm with you
like uh...
i'd rather this be about that that's something we talked about on the like
i'd rather be in the tip what I want to tip.
I mean, I think it's probably good.
I want to show them.
No, I want to give a better tip than usually what the thing is,
which I guess you can just do with,
oh, you can add additional?
Not here, no, there's no,
like, I mean, you could leave cash on the table
because there's no function add an additional tip.
See, this is what I don't like.
Because I like, I think that it's probably good for a lot of people,
if there's people who tip under and I think most people tip under.
Yeah, and I do, and look, I'm not saying,
I think that people got mad at us before,
like, we're very lucky to have the podcast and be able to tip well
and that's what we want to do.
Yes.
But, but that, that to me is like, I would, it's 18%. It's 16% here. I'll see, I would want to go, I we want to do. Yes. But that to me is like, it's 18%.
It's 16% here.
Oh, see?
I would want to go, I would want to go at least 20%.
Yeah, I'd go in there.
But here's the thing, it's like,
I don't know how the employees are compensated.
So I don't know, like, you know,
tip employees have a whole thing
where they can be paid less than minimum wage.
And then, you know, like the tips are added on top of that.
I don't know if they have a, if the way they're,
these employees are just paid a better hourly rate
and they don't have to deal with that dance.
It's possible.
I'm not sure.
I honestly don't know the economics of it.
What I would say is that tipping,
tip culture exists in the US as a way
to make the customers subsidize the low wages
of the servers, you know?
And so that sucks.
And the only thing you can do as like a, you know,
conscientious consumers be like,
I'm going to tip generously because these people
are underpaid.
But really, we should have a fair system.
If you look at better, more equitable,
more functional countries, they have less tipping.
It's like they're just, everyone just paid better.
So that would be better.
It's not gonna happen.
Nothing's gonna get better here.
So you just have to tip well.
Shane was in Japan and he said that they wouldn't take tips
and they would sometimes be insulted
if you're trying to give a tip.
And also, I don't know if China's just trying to keep
safe money.
Oh, they wouldn't like it.
They would do it.
They looked mad.
Anyway, this is one of those places that they're just like,
like whatever, we're gonna simplify it for the consumer.
You don't have to, and hopefully it's a better deal
for the employees.
I can't speak to that.
We went to the Mayor of Dela, Ray Location,
we looked at some boats, we all seated together,
our server was Blake who took our order,
and then Alicia made our rolls.
And that's the part of the experience
that you were talking about, Mitch earlier.
And I think it's a good point.
It's like, I really like that,
like, here's this person right in front of us,
the chef right in front of us,
going and making each item by hand
and then just putting it in front of you
and then you just eat it.
It's like, it's cool, but it's also the good experience.
Don't bear it.
Do you ever do that? It's fun.
Don't bear it. Don't bear it.
Stop there.
Maybe I was with you.
You should get the super fans
to help promote the show.
We got the super band.
It's, I'm telling you, that's a pretty fun crossover.
That'd be great.
The super fans, who smi-glo is my goal.
Yeah.
And what's the norm from cheers, these one?
Oh, right, yeah.
Yeah, that would be great.
That would be a lot of fun.
No, I mean, serious, do you know them?
George Wendt.
George Wendt. Yeah, can you call him?
George when I are gonna like a fat guy clothes
Didn't put the the bears just did a weird like the bear thing for to announce their schedule the football
Yes, they're cool. Yeah, they did like a little like parody to announce their football schedule in like little eight
Pays stuff. I like that. That's cute. Okay. Go watch it. Yeah. By the way, thanks for saying I look like the 65 year old man
Who's almost 30 years older?
His prime
One of the hottest men on television
One of the most famous people I think Norm is pretty hot nor I think Norm is pretty odd. Norm I do seriously. Norm or Cliff. Which one?
Which one are you going to town on?
Norm or Cliff?
I do don't sleep on coach.
We all want Woody.
Come on.
Everybody wants Woody.
Jason Sedacus related to George Went.
Yes.
Yeah.
Wow.
It's a little Hollywood inside.
Wow.
Wow.
Nepo.
Nepo baby.
That's a lot.
I think it's a lot of people.
I think it's a lot of people. I think it's a lot of people. I think it's a lot of people. I think it's a lot of people. I think it's a lot of people. Is everybody lost Woody? Jason Sedacus related to George Went. Yes. Yeah.
Wow.
That's a little Hollywood inside.
Neppo.
Wow.
Neppo, Neppo, baby.
That's so like Ted Neppo.
I'm really happy to be here because my uncle is George Went.
I'm really happy to be here because my uncle is George Went.
I'm really happy.
I've never seen Ted last.
So I know he's happy.
Is that like the-
I've also never seen Ted last.
I don't know.
He's happy?
That's what it is. Yeah, he's like a positive guy. It's his whole thing. He's like super is that like the- I'm also never seen that. I don't know. He's happy? That's what it is.
Yeah, he's like a positive guy.
It's his whole thing, he's like super positive.
No thanks.
Yeah, yeah, no thank you.
So okay, so we sat down there,
I really like the experience of eating there,
and I'll also say this,
and I think this is, if you're a, look,
this isn't an inexpensive lunch,
but if you're just gonna go like with like one of the
hand roll sets,
the six hand roll set menu gets six hand rolls.
That's a lunch, that's a meal, it's $28.
That's not like nothing, that's not cheap,
but that's a pretty decent price point for a sushi meal.
And I feel like if you're-
People always get mad at somebody who are like,
it's like in LA getting lunch for 20 boxes,
you're doing okay.
You can easily spend $20 at like a sweet grain.
You can go on it.
You can get a Brio for 10 to $12.
Yes, yeah.
Like in terms of being in a big city and paying,
like it's, again, it's not nothing.
That $28 is not insignificant amount.
And as a fore, what you're getting,
I think it's a decent value.
There's like four handrolls set too, right?
Yeah, you can get a four handroll set of,
you want to spend even less.
But I feel like the six is probably about the point where it starts to feel like this is a full me. Yeah sure
Yeah, I did I had eight yesterday and I was like stuffed and I never I was so stuck. I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I was over there and I who key to. I was so full, I didn't need dinner. That was super full.
And then I didn't even wake, I mean, I had like a little something,
but like I didn't need us, I didn't have a real dinner.
And then this morning I wasn't starved.
Like I was, it was crazy.
I did, I mean, I didn't have to.
I had Taco Bell about 2 a.m. too.
I had a quarter chicken left over and some salad.
But it was a light chicken.
No one has to skip dinner.
I was just telling you my story.
I never, I don't like the idea of getting stuffed
off sushi and I was, I was, I was stuck.
But it was right.
I mean, it's not just the sushi, which is right.
It's rice.
Rice is filling.
It was in, look, I was having a, I was having a good time.
There's a very, there, who was our server again?
Alicia.
Alicia, who we asked our name at the end
and fucking freaked her out. Well, I was a guy, who was who we asked our name at the end of the fucking
Freector of
I was taking pictures.
And she at the end she was like sending some pictures.
Because the sushi or the rolls were right in front of her.
So it looks like he was taking a picture of her crotch.
Or but.
Or something.
I tried to frame out at anyone in the picture.
I was trying to just get the hand roll.
But you also, at the end of the meal, you're like,
hi, what's your name?
And she was like, Alisa, and then you're like,
okay, and you left.
I said, thanks for the great sushi.
I said to Alisa, I was like,
sorry about my weird friend.
Yeah, which didn't help.
And then she thought I was weird, so I left.
It was, it was, it was a weird, she was great.
She was great. And there was another guy too who helped us a little bit too.
Yeah, yeah.
And they were, they were, you know,
like they have a great rhythm there.
Great to you.
It was fucking hop in the whole time we were there.
Like it was only towards the end
that there started to be any big seats at the bar.
There was a wigory guy next to you.
Because it was funny, like I called you like,
you know, we were, like, when we were done,
I was like, were we loud and annoying?
Because there was a wiger guy next to you.
Yeah.
There was two wags in a row.
Did you see the guy was just kind of like sitting
there very silently?
Yeah, he's just solo diner.
Fucking s-s-s-s-fucking.
I thought he was about to join our conversation a few times
because he looks like he was kind of leaning in.
He was very quiet leaning in.
I talked to him.
And I was like, say, I was talking about Wally's butthole
and they went to the vet and I called you a fuck machine.
There's like things where I was like,
this guy probably hates us.
Let's get into the food a little bit.
So we had a lot of conversation,
a wigory guy, I freaked out the server,
but we had a lovely time.
So the six handroll set, here's what we got.
You get a Toro handroll, yellow tail handroll,
salmon handroll, base scallop handroll,
crab handroll, and lobster handroll.
And they're kind of not handing you necessarily them in that set.
You get six of them.
Six, okay.
And then you got, and so that's what bitch, that's the baseline that you and I got.
Joanna, you got the nazi, or the nosi, which is his own collection.
Yeah, it was like an omokaze, which I guess is like different for each day.
You remember what came in it? That's that that's going to be the heart. Well, you got, well,
I know as part of it, they got a sea bream in there. Yes. Yes.
Yeah, and you got a Yamamau, which were once we ordered all a card. And then also the lobster.
Right. And then something else. I think you got a Toro as well. Oh, yeah, that's exactly what it was.
I got that six hand roasted, but I also got the sea bream. Is sea bream?
Yeah, you get the sea bream all the time.
Sea bream and I also got the albacore.
Those were the two.
Yes, I didn't get that one.
I got a cucumber as well,
and then we got some salmon sashimi that we got.
Oh, yeah, I also, I added the cucumber
and I added sea bream because I didn't know I was.
You got two sea breams.
The sea bream was good.
It was great.
The guy who took our drink order,
knew why he's your member's name? He, uh, he, uh, Blake, Blake, he, his, he said his
favorite was the sea bream. And then I asked him what a second favorite was. It was the
Albuquer. And I got the Albuquer. Did you try by the, no, was it good? It might have
been my bite of the night. I take a bite of the Albuquer. It was, it was, it was, it was
good. Sorry. I, no, no, I, well, yeah, I'll have to go back. I honestly, I was so shocked at how good that Yamamoto thing was.
I thought that was gonna like suck and that was my favorite thing. So it's a yeah, it was kind of like a the texture of like Hickama almost
Yeah, it's exactly crunchy and then it had a real spicy sauce in there. It was so tasty. It was it was a great
No fish in that. No fish. No, I didn't realize. No, they had a few veggie rolls. Yeah. That one and the And they was really gonna that yeah, that had some that had some meat. I was surprised by that. Yeah. Um,
I'm a bit of a heat seeker. So I was very happy to have it. There it is
We got to do it
El wiker said heat seeker. I'm gonna update the dope. Weas with competing
Lane, I get off the computer. Stop writing your songs
The one computer. I, the Albuquerra I liked quite a bit, but that main set, the, the, the, their version,
I guess, of Trust Me, that's six.
Maybe you had the version of Trust Me.
That's right.
But that six handroll set is, is, it's really good.
Yeah.
What were the highlights for you?
Why? Okay, so I like I'm a big Toro fan. Yeah, I always fuck with the tour. I thought that was good. I was I was pretty
You know, I don't always love a Sam or I'm sorry a scallop sushi, but I think this was a quality-based scallop
And it's nice. You know, nicely seasoned. You know what they do that scallop
Handroll was a wait, I can't say wrong. I, I'm gonna get mad. Scallop. Scallop.
That's scallop.
Other fine.
Hand roll was, that was fantastic.
They're also, I will say that Alicia,
and I know this is, again, another thing they try to do
to kind of hold your hand through the process is,
they'll hand you something and they'll be like,
like without soy sauce or with soy sauce,
like which ones you're supposed to dip
in which ones have their own sauce.
And I find that very, very helpful.
And you know what?
I, it's that funny thing.
We're like so often, especially out here,
but I like a lot of restaurants to go to.
Like it's lobster.
I'm a New England boy.
So I'm like lobster a lot of the time is let down.
Yeah, that lobster hand roll was fucking good.
That was so good.
It was really, really good.
You guys were actually really cute when you were like, so he said, no, so he says, no,
like Evan, you wanted to make sure you got it right. I feel like we asked maybe even too much.
I think we asked her, we asked her like every time before we bit. He's like, I'll tell you.
What she did, she did, she just ended up telling us. I mean, I think that you look, I'm a big eel fan.
And I thought it was really smokey.
Big eel span.
The band.
I mean, two of their videos.
Oh, that's right.
You don't know who they are, is that what you said?
I don't know, I'm not familiar with their music,
but they know who they're in their videos.
I don't know what that is.
Oh my God.
No, I know you're in their videos.
But two of the videos.
Well, why do they have so many videos that you're in?
I mean, two of them.
That's not so many.
But if you are in two, they must have hundreds.
I'm like, what are you?
This is an outrage.
This is an outrage.
This is an outrage.
I think they're decently popular.
Oh, I'm so sorry.
Mitchell was also in a pop video.
I know.
I was in a pop video, yes.
Yeah, I love being in the pop video. Great
Great band. I don't listen to music
Um, our boy does directed the uh, oh, yes, I saw that
But what about this other thing that eels were you're in too?
I'll say this on for you that you know
And we suppose that we were supposed to have e on the show another
Cool that him I brought it up and it just never happened. Oh, just like just like me
Life is hard and so am I gotta get something but no McCain
For the soul before I spot her out. You know, that's a no
Do you case you know that song? I do know that song
Butter out, you know that song? Nope.
Do you?
KC, do you know that song?
I do know that song.
I guess you know KC.
Well, he's got tattoos, you know.
Yeah.
Emma, how much of the song can I play
before we get in trouble?
We might get in trouble.
Like 10 seconds, me.
I think you got the idea.
If people know the song, they'll know what the part you say.
Jesus, you saying. Remember the name, okay, here's the thing. I remember the name from the past, but I was like, how could you be in their videos if they're a band from the 90s?
Because they're still making music.
They're still active?
Yeah, yeah, making great music.
That's what I believe you.
Like I said, I don't, I think listening to music
is too narrow.
I'm not the fucking Alicia Silverstone
or fucking the 2020s.
I'm the Alicia Silverstone of the 2020s.
I'll say it again.
Yeah, you could say it.
The, as far as highlights go, yeah, I mean, like, like, all these like a Toro.
I think the Sam and Sashimi was, you know, it, it, hey, we can assess a maze.
Yeah, I was gay.
Let's see.
Yeah, you love that.
I like that.
Great texture to it. And I think the, yeah, like, I like the EOL, I like good. Yeah, you loved that. I like that. Great texture to it.
And I think the, yeah, I like the EOL, I like the Yamamou.
Open sesame, am I right?
Open my mouth, sesame.
Right.
You are right.
You are, Mitch, you're right.
Can't argue with you.
I loved that lobster.
I loved that, Yamamou thing.
I got the ice cream tea very machae, but it was a lot of fun.
Well, we got a talk about Joanna's move off the top. I mean, you said it was an alpha move. It
was an alpha move. And it was. You got you got how many beverages? I had a water,
Diet Coke and a beer. And then your order was a water, a Diet Coke and a support. Yeah.
And then I did have a second tomorrow and I feel badly, and I wanna pay you guys back.
No, don't worry about it.
We like actually like when people do.
I love that.
We're eating, it's fun, you celebrate eating.
Two lunch beers is very alpha.
Yeah, it does make me worried about you.
I was tired of you, and so I'm gonna say,
I don't really, you know, I'm on strike.
There's nowhere to be, there. No shape to my life.
I just got a little drunk.
Why about?
And that made me order the, the, the die coke in the water.
And then Wigers, the only one that they brought a fucking water to,
the guy who didn't order one got the water.
Yeah.
Like, how was that green tea?
Very matchy.
Yeah, it was, that was the thing.
It was real.
Yeah, that's real.
Yeah, it was, it would look like a green juice you'd get.
Yeah, but I, I, I, I find it, I found it refreshing. Mm-hmm. Nice option. I don't know. I mean, look, here's real. Yeah, it would look like a green juice you'd get. Yeah, but I find it refreshing, nice option.
I don't know, I mean, look, here's the thing,
it's like, you feel a little bit like an asshole,
I feel like even eating at this place.
Sure, but it is, I think it does execute
what it's trying to do really well.
And I think it's quality fish, I think it's good rice,
I think they have a great assembly line,
you know, back there. And it seems like, yeah, go on a complaint. I got a complaint. I do like
the setup of it, the stools though. I wish there was a little, I think it's a valid complaint.
I think they're just needs to be a little bit more space. They're not great stools. I'm a big guy.
Yeah. I think they're just needs to be a little more more space. They're not great stools. Yeah, I'm a big guy Yeah, I think they're just needs to be a little more space on those stools
Here's you get like a corner or something you're fine. It's for a big person. I think you're okay
Yeah, no, I think that's real. I mean we we were fine the three of us were I mean Nick and I were next to each other
And two big guys. Yeah, but no, they're small. Yeah small. I also think the height is a little awkward
Like we're your knees bent at the kind of like a little awkward. Like, my foot, weren't your knees bent to kind of like a weird angle, which is a taller dude.
Yeah.
And obviously sugarfish doesn't have that.
I do like that you're reading at the bar though.
I like that it's a concept is.
Oh, love sitting at the bar.
Yeah.
And I'm not always a bar guy,
but to eat at the bar,
but I like that there.
It's like we're saying.
It's something you see,
they're making the hand rolls in front of you
and they're serving you.
I don't know if the server's like that.
I have no idea. They might not. I don't know. Who knows?
Yeah, I know. Well, yeah, when there's two doors taking photos of their sushi.
But, but, yeah, stools could just be a little bit more spaced out.
Yeah, I agree. I think that's a fair note. But I think overall, I had a nice experience there.
That's a fair note, but I think overall I had a nice experience there. Mm-hmm.
But how nice.
We're gonna find out.
We're right back with our Forks scores right after this.

We're here with Joanna K. Low docking the kazoo nori and hey,
time for our fork school.
Text my plumber.
Yeah.
Goren.
Talked about you on the pod today.
Don't freak out.
All good. So Joanna, you've listed the podcast today. Don't freak out. All good.
So John, if you've listed the podcast, you know how this works.
We're each going to go around your final thoughts on this particular chain
and give it a score from zero to five forks.
You're our guest.
Oh my god.
I'm great.
This is like an eight mile.
You can't blow it here like this is the big moment. Yeah. Well, yes, I I I really
I'll wrap it in the first battle. We do encourage discussing mom spaghetti.
Yeah, I'll have some next week.
That's nice.
Good spaghetti.
Um, I'm sure.
It makes good spaghetti. And good scrambled eggs.
I'm sure.
This is, this is, this is,
people don't know the pressure of this moment.
Yes.
The gas is up first.
This is really a talk.
Well, you guys won't let me speak.
So I can't even say anything.
We're just trying to let you know.
You know, we understand the mindset you're at right now.
This is, this is fucking.
I'm trying to weigh this decision.
What to say exactly.
Okay, so I'm sorry.
No, fuck you.
People's revolutions have turned in these moments.
Jesus, whatever.
Am I can I go?
I'm somewhere to be.
This is the Do-Boys guest trajectory.
I'm like, I'm excited to be on the show to the point where like can I leave you? Do you remember Jeff
Dilber? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Dil right, Gilbert. See you later, dude.
I think you live in Iowa now.
Go ahead.
Yeah, ask one clarifying question.
Yes.
Should I make my score just on our experience yesterday?
I think everything that you had, I think I always feel like the whole thing is on the
table.
That's kind of a Dilber question.
Um, okay. I just feel like the whole thing is on the table. That's kind of a dillber question. Okay.
First of all, I do apologize with this was kind of a bougie place, but so I am sorry, I'm
sorry to listeners who can't come to California and New York, but I bet it will come to them
eventually.
So just think of this as my preparation. I think that in regards to how well this chain does, what it's aiming to do, I think it
really provides a great hand roll meal.
And I think the price and the bad to go situation makes me want to take half a fork off.
So I say four and a half.
Wow, four forks.
That's a great score.
That's a great score.
Like I said before, I'm not a huge like Nory fan,
but this place is undeniably good.
Like you're saying, it's a little bougie, but.
I just realized, his name is Kazoo Nory.
It's got Ni in it.
Kazunori, that's why the end is capital.
I just put that put together.
Wow.
So he has that he has Nori in his name?
Yeah, it's his name.
Wow.
It was Awakazunori.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
That's like when we were saying, we beef Mitchell.
Remember we were talking about beef and bread Mitchell. Yeah.
Eat bread.
I do not my son. I do have to. I do have to. Yeah. That's the
parentheses under it. I do. I do have to eat some of that bread before I go.
But that's like having the food in your name, that's wild.
That's cool.
But I'm not a huge fan of Nori.
Wait.
Oh, wait, is Nori's eel, right?
No, Nori's the paper.
No, Nori is the paper.
What is eel?
I know this.
Unaig-naggi.
Unaiggi.
I'm all over the place.
I don't, I just think you don't speak Japanese.
Yeah, that is also true.
That's okay.
Remember also yesterday we were like,
why are you love Japan?
You should go.
He's like, not until I can speak the language.
And we're like, oh, so you'll never go.
You're like, good, good.
We have to be fluent in Japanese before you go.
It's me before you go.
I'm like, good, Japanese before you go.
I'm comfortable being someplace
and not knowing how to talk to him.
But what about like an app for emergency?
Trust me dude, you're doing them a favor.
Yeah.
I want to talk to everyone.
Uh, Kanichiwa body, the fucking freaked out.
Uh, I like sugarfish better.
And I believe I gave sugarfish five forks.
I believe I think it's a platinum plate club.
Intred.
Um, yes, I had a great, I had, I had, I had, I had a, I had a great time at this, at this
spot.
And I thought that the hand rolls were all great.
We had great company.
We had a good time.
What a good time.
It was fun.
It's not a lot of shit.
We talked a lot of shit. Is it, is it slightly bougie? Uh, uh, slightly, it is, it is mid to higher end wags. You're right.
Upper middle class restaurant. Uh, but it was, uh, but they, they do a damn good job. The quality
is, is just high. Yeah. And I, And I was really enjoying it.
I'm between four and four and a half here.
I don't know which way to go.
I think I'll do.
I was doing 4.25.
God damn it.
I pulled a Dilbert.
I just, it was his name Dilbert.
I just removed a T from Dilbert.
Yeah, I think that's just that Jeff Dilbert.
Oh, Jesus. You know, I'm gonna go hand hold them club. I'll go Yeah, I think that's just that Jeff Dilbert. Oh, Jesus.
You know, I'm gonna go hand hold them club.
I'll go for, I'm gonna go 4.25.
I think that's a great point.
I think 4.25, yeah.
Independent thought.
Mm-hmm.
I was gonna go 4.4x on this one.
I was then, but then,
because I do think it's a really good execution.
I think I just like hand rolls
less than other sushi preparations.
That's just me, but I think it's a really good approach to this concept.
I think it's very user friendly for the customers,
you know, just in terms of like how you order and how you pay
and how everything is presented to you.
I am though, I am going gonna give this an extra time.
Don't wanna be a hand-hoeing club with Mitch
and that's for the pun.
Cause you know I love wordplay,
especially food-based wordplay.
So Kazoo Nory is really, that's a lot of fun.
And that makes me enjoy the restaurant one time
more so four fourths, one time.
4.25.
What's the golden play club, Kazoo Nory?
I think that's where it belongs.
I think that's a golden play club. Oh, I think 100 were said it's a golden play club.25. What's the golden playclub, Kazooon? I think that's where it belongs. I think that's a golden playclub.
I think 100 were set at the Golden Playclub.
Wow.
I'm with you though, it's not my favorite preparation.
So it is funny to have, but you did have that the same in the, what was it?
The she-me, which was great.
I thought that was really good.
It seems like high quality fish there, you know.
I think they, I don't know.
I think they've done a good job of chainifying this food.
It's a great term.
They did chainify.
I, I, that's not that good of a term.
I, I realized that I really like salmon sushi
or I just really love sesame seeds.
It's one of, which goes back to the Arbago preference.
Wow. Wow.
Sesame seeds are great. That's what a great seed. It all goes back to our bagel preference. Wow. Sesame seeds are great.
That's what a great seed.
It all goes back to the bagel chateau.
Oh, oh.
Oh, I love the bagel chateau.
I want to go there.
I know, my sister made us t-shirts.
Because they didn't sell their own.
So I have some bagel chateau.
After Mike Mitchell found overdosed on bagels
and bagel chatown. After Mike Mitchell found overdosed on bagels. And bagel sh be the one hearing my own backing track. I'll also be able to hear it slightly
from her headphones, which is funny for me too.
It's time for a segment.
Emma.
["Memories of the New Year's Day"]
If everybody had a portion
across the USA,
then everybody'd be serving.
Like California, A, Burritos.
You'd see them snacking from baggies

Everybody's gone serving
serving USA
Okay, so this is serving USA, so I'll name a snack
And Mitch and Joanna must guess the amount of servings per container.
The closest guess wins a point for that round
and assume every product's container is at standard size
unless they did other one.
I think we can.
There's moments during the show where I'm like,
I'm crying.
I'm crying.
Where I'm like, am I an alpha?
You fucking door.
That's the best thing ever.
Oh my god, this really is a make a wish.
My dream, I dreamt of a song.
Oh, sorry.
I dreamt of a song.
Now I can die happily.
Okay, we touched on this in,
because the processor brought something for his segment.
We were gonna do, we're gonna debut this on this episode,
but it ended up being in this episode.
So here we go.
So serving USA, yeah, I'll name a snack.
You guess the amount of servings per container
and assumed it's the standard size,
and then you got a point.
What?
Again, once again, saying like he was
at an elementary school audition.
No, this will make sense.
This will make sense.
No, I'm saying your song sounds like
it was an elementary school audition.
Okay, guys, not passing the background check.
Okay, this will make sense, allegedly.
This will make sense.
So I'll say the name of the food stuff
and guess how many servings are per container.
You know, you get like a box of crackers or something.
And they'll say the serving size servings per container.
So you're just figuring out that.
Okay, this is fun.
It's gonna be fine.
I don't know, it will be that fun.
Oh, whatever.
Let's say it. First up, Mitch, it will be that fun. Oh, whatever. Let's say it.
First up, Mitch, your favorite, cool ranch Doritos, a nine and a quarter ounce bag.
How many servings per container?
You both get to guess.
Mitch.
Oh, okay.
Seven chips.
Mitch says, I think it's two servings.
It's number of servings, not number of chips.
I say two.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right. All right.. Yeah. All right. I'll say three.
I'll say three.
Uh, which, what is this baggy?
What is a bag?
It's nine and a quarter ounce bag.
What is that?
Is that the, is that the regular bag?
That's like the normal seven or eleven bag.
I like it.
My regular bag is this says and you're regular bag.
I can tell it was a snack bag or if it's, it's the, it's, if it's the, this is like the grab bag at 7.11.
This is what's tricky about it
because the ounces of food in the container
are less than you think versus the size of the bag.
Right.
And so, ultimate, this is what the math is.
So this is the game.
Yeah, I'm saying five servings.
You're saying five servings,
do you wanna amend your answer?
I don't know, no.
Okay, Mitch is gonna take it because they're actually nine servings in a bag of
poor ranch Doritos. Nine servings. Mitch, you get that one.
What the fuck? Okay. Okay. Let's try.
This isn't saying. We'll try it again.
Okay. Next up, if we do this again, it might be better with some visual cues.
So you get a sense of what we're talking about.
Next up, standard standard box of cheeses, which is a seven ounce box.
Okay.
How many servings per container?
Oh, okay.
I'm gonna go big.
I'm gonna go, I think even more.
I'm gonna go four, 12 or 14.
12 servings per, 12 servings per container.
I get the bigger.
I was gonna go 10, but I obviously don't understand
this game at all.
You both are in the right ballpark, Mitch,
you're actually on home plate.
You nailed it, it's 12 servings.
Wow.
In a box, it's a thing.
You're genius.
I next up, think a saltine crack.
This is my beautiful mind.
Now, a saltine crackers box, that's a big boy.
Think about this one. How many saltine crackers servings Crackers box, that's a big boy. If you think about this one,
how many Salteen crackers servings per container?
Again, the game is serving USA.
How many Salteen crackers?
How many servings per container?
Okay. Okay.
Okay. Four?
Oh, I don't know.
I think that there is, okay, how long?
I'm gonna do some math here in my head.
I think that per serving,
for if you're talking rich crackers, I think there's probably five. Salteen.. I think that per serving, if you're talking rich crackers,
I think there's probably five.
Salteens.
Oh, saltines.
It is saltines.
If you're talking saltines,
there's probably like per serving,
it's probably what, like six to seven crackers.
You think that's a serving?
I think so.
You don't think it's like two or four?
Okay. Okay.
I think it's like six or seven.
No, you're way better at this than I am.
And then so I think that it would,
so then how, like, how many are in the box of saltine?
Box of saltine, one box.
Okay, so that's like four sleeves.
Yeah.
So I'm thinking that's like,
Yes.
Oh my God, I think that that,
I think it's like 22 servings per container.
Yeah, that was my original guess, it was 24.
You're guessing 24, What did you guess?
22.
22.
Joanna takes it.
It's actually 28 servings per container.
And a serving size is five crackers.
Oh, you're so smart at this.
All right.
You didn't have to say at this.
By the way, four sleeves sounds like goros wedding coat.
Okay, next up.
Wheat fins.
Get over here.
I've used this joke a million times.
I used it in an improv set back in the day,
but I was gonna say, get over here and give me a hug.
Congratulations.
You.
Next up, Wheat fins.
Wheat fins.
I can see what's the wheat fins.
Would scorpion be invited to Goro's wedding?
Yeah, they're all there.
Yeah, they're all there.
What's this?
A video game thing?
Yeah, this is a moral combat.
Oh yeah.
So yeah, moral combat wedding.
I feel like Kano's officiating.
No, yeah, Shang Tsung's officiating, of course.
Kano's there, you know, sub-zero's the best man.
Yeah.
But also you can have the bad guys show up to get them
because they know they're all there.
I think in this case, Luke King,
the good guys are shown up to sort of like,
ha ha, we're gonna disrupt your wedding.
And then Johnny Cage is like, not today, man.
He's like, yeah, it's a special day.
He's Marian Sonia.
To Coral, I got bad news about the bachelor. He was a, there was a, there was a
Bay Balody.
Coro, dude, you're, Coro, or your baby, dude.
Wheatthens, standard box of wheat thins, 8.5 ounce box.
How many servings per container?
The game is serving US.
This is one where you open the bag
and it's like halfway down, but you think?
Oh yeah.
Yes, 100%.
Mostly bag.
Wheatthens, this is a tricky one.
How much is this?
I think I know, I think I have a guess on,
I like actually know how many wheat thins,
I like have an idea of how many weathens, I think
it's like maybe eight weathens or nine because I used to eat a serving of weathens for lunch.
Right. Wow. And I would do if I was it. No, no, no, I would have a turkey sandwich. We,
the like the light weathens, whatever they are, like the fat free weathens or something.
And then and then hummus and yarns.
That's such a, to me that's always such a bummer snack
because they used to get like,
they get like the reduced fat crackers just like,
I'm still not quite getting what I want.
Yeah, you need the fat.
The low sodium I'm just like,
yeah, they're nice not as, it doesn't taste as good.
Yeah.
I'm gonna like, yeah, they're nice. It doesn't taste as good. Yeah. I'm gonna go with, hmm.
I didn't visualize.
So I think that there's nine.
I think it's around nine.
Or maybe, you know what, it might even be 12.
I think it might be like a high number.
So I'm gonna go with, there are,
how many servings in a box of wheat bins?
So in that case, I think there's like...
I think there's like eight servings.
I think it's lower.
Which guess is eight servings?
I was gonna say five.
And I think I'm too low, but I'm just gonna say it because this doesn't matter.
That is the correct answer.
Mitch again hits the bulls eye eight servings per container.
Yeah, box a week in.
I can't believe that I am doing it okay with this.
How many crackers?
16 crackers.
16, it's more than I thought.
16 crackers, but he was a high number.
Eight servings.
You have three points.
Joanna has one.
Next up, ruffles, Cheddar and Sour Cream Potato Chips.
This is a two and a half ounce bag,
so it's snack size bag.
Ooh, okay.
You think it's snack size.
How many more are there?
Because if I can't ever win, I'll just give up.
I was kidding.
I was kidding, I'll do it, I'll do it.
Let's see, there's one, two, three, four,
there's four more, and there's a tiebreaker.
So it's anyone's game at this point. Damn. I, I'll do it. Let's see, there's one, two, three, four, there's four more and there's a tiebreaker. So it's anyone's game at this point.
Damn.
I, I, I, hmm.
I think that this is.
This is this bag?
I think this is a snack bag.
I'm gonna say, hmm.
I can say four servings.
I think it might be three.
I mean, this is a close one.
Yeah.
You can just steal it from me with five or three.
But you guess, I'm not trying to steal.
I'm trying to think.
I'm just stealing.
Who gives a shit?
I say three.
Trying to take it because it's actually two and a half servings
for a day.
I didn't know but it was higher or lower.
Isn't that one of those things where it's like, it's like, this is a joke
that there's more than one serving in the bag.
No one's gonna eat like, I'm gonna have this bag,
I'm gonna put this away,
I'm gonna have a little bit more of this bag
and put that away and then have the rest of it.
Never fucking happened.
That's bullshit.
Serving sizes are bullshit.
Next up, smart food, white cheddar popcorn.
Which wise has never eaten before.
I've never had smart food.
I didn't know was that big of a brand.
Oh yeah, I heard you guys talking about this, not for me.
So I don't know if it was like, I don't know if it's in the, I don't know if it's in the, I don't know if that big of a brand. Oh yeah, I heard you guys talking about this, not for me. So I don't know if it was like,
I don't know if it's in the, I don't know.
I like, maybe I'm cause I'm older, maybe cause we're older.
That might be it.
You never really ate smart food either.
But maybe like richer families did.
What the fuck?
That's probably a thing.
Oh, I think this is a shit.
Okay, smart food. Smart food, white cheddar popcorn.
It's a 6.75 ounce bag.
So a bigger bag.
How many servings per container?
What size bag?
6.75 ounce bag.
Okay, I bet.
Close to the Doritos bag.
That the servings are smaller because they're trying to sell
like your ability to diet.
This is, oh yeah.
So because of that, I'm'm gonna say I don't know 15
That's a good guess
But popcorn is hmm
This is this is this one is tricky because I'm like how many yeah pieces of popcorn in a serving and with smart food
I'm probably like yeah, it's probably like what like
Probably 15 pieces of popcorn. Yeah. And then I'm gonna go
with 10 servings. John, what was your guess? 15. Mitch gets it. It's actually six servings. You're
both overshodding. Oh my god. You think about it because it's not that. Yeah, a couple more.
As discussed, I'm bad at this. You're doing great. Mitch, you have five. Yeah, Mitch, all right. A couple more. As discussed, I'm bad at this. You're doing great.
Mitch, you have five?
Yeah, Mitch is really good at this and I'm bad.
We have two more.
Peanut M&Ms, this is a party size bag.
Whoa.
Big boy, man.
38 ounce bag, party size.
It's Halloween, I gotta stock up on peanut M&Ms.
Los Candies.
Yeah.
Hahaha. Hahaha.
Could you just pour my poison over?
Hahaha.
Alright.
Bog's fucking loose candy cabinet.
Yeah, come on in.
Hahaha.
Walking the cabinet, take whatever you want.
Funny, a loose candy here, buddy.
Got a close of the door behind you.
Hahaha.
Uh, in my mind, I'm like, how many M, peanut M&Ms is in a serving?
And my guess is five or six, right?
And then I'm like, how many,
that even might be overshooting it.
Like is it?
No.
You know what?
I would say five is my limit.
Wow.
So in that, okay.
Okay.
So I that, okay. Okay. So I think...
Now, I think it's lower.
I think this one's lower too.
But these are dense.
I'm gonna go with that there's,
I think going over five servings is also crazy.
Maybe it's just four.
I'm gonna say that there's's just four. I'm gonna,
I'm gonna say that there's four servings, Wags.
Again, there's a party side. Yeah, I'm in the 10.
Oh, she's probably five.
I'm just gonna keep going 10.
And one day I'll be right.
Mitch, you're going, you're going five.
I'm gonna go five.
Do I need you going 10?
Yeah.
Do I wanna take it because there's actually
38 servings in the back.
Oh, I see it. I see it. I. Oh, I'm a massive bag of them.
That's it.
So I was so stupid on that one because we talked about smart food being less dense.
And I was like, this is more dense.
Yeah.
So it should be more servings.
But that's insane.
Yeah.
38 servings.
Yeah, I'm an oven ounce of M&M.
So how many M&M pieces?
12 pieces.
Oh, you're talking the big bag.
It's a party size.
I thought it was the fun size bag.
There was no reason to think that.
I thought it was.
I would have said fun size.
I know.
No, not fun size.
You know, we talked about the loose candy.
Hold on a second.
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
I know, but I can be true of anything. I thought it was the, you know,
what's, you know the regular M&M bag,
the regular M&M bag.
Yeah, the regular M&M bag.
You know the one that's one step bigger than that?
Yeah. What is that?
King size.
King size.
Party sizes like this.
Party sizes the big bag.
Oh, fucking shit.
Costco bag.
I'm so sorry.
No, that's so good at this.
I know, I fucked up.
I fucked up. Speaking of, Mitch has five, Joanna has three. I'm so sorry. No, that's so good at this. I know, I fucked up. No, I fucked up.
Speaking of,
Mitch has five, Joanna has three.
We have one last.
Why are you snuck up?
Red Von,
speaking of Costco,
red vines original red.
It's a bulk five and a half town jar.
I know that exactly.
And then big barrels.
Yeah.
How many servings per container of red vines?
This is a good question because I'm like,
is a serving one?
Yeah, exactly. Is a serving one? One is a a good question because I'm like is a serving one is a
One, yeah, I think a serving is either one or two right
That's my guess is that a serving is one or two liquor so that like is it as far as candy goes
This is a liquor. It's like not that it's as far as the candies go people get
What are the servings like five you know what I mean?
Because think about when you buy a red vine at the movies. Yeah, you know what I mean There's so many red vines just in a regular regular regular like a regular package of red vines has so many.
Maybe like, like 20, right?
I was gonna say 10, like it was a new idea.
And then I realized that's what I said every time.
So I'm not gonna say that.
Yeah, what are you gonna say?
I'll say what you say.
I'm gonna say that there are 40,
there's 40 servings.
Mm.
I'm gonna say 30.
Mitch's closest. There's actually 83 servings per container and a serving is three red vines.
It's three.
Okay.
So there's 200 and whatever, 816, there's 240, there's like over 240 red vines in the thing.
That's fucking wild. That's great. I was thinking that there's like over 240 breadvines in the thing. That's fucking wild.
That's great.
I was singing that there was like 100.
Yeah, I guess it'd be 249 or something.
Yeah, I thought, I originally was gonna say 50,
and I went to one.
Well, that was serving USA.
You both did good.
You were gonna give it the tie,
and that's worth two points.
Just like I was going to write me back,
let's up to the feedback.
And today we have an email from James S. At Jim Diggity. James writes, if you haven't heard craft hines wants you to mix
flavors in your ketchup, what franken sauces are your favorites? What would you like to see on the
shelves? And here's some additional context on this. This is basically a coke freestyle machine,
but for sauce. And so the sauce bases include ketchup,
ranch, 57 sauce, and barbecue sauce.
You get those four bases, ketchup, ranch, 57, barbecue.
And then you can pick one of those,
but then you can mix flavor enhancers.
So that's the equivalent of like I'm picking
like Coke or Sprite or Dr. Pepper.
And then,
I'm then adding the cherry.
Yeah, and then you're adding jalapeno, smoky chipotle,
buffalo, mango.
What?
Yeah.
This is wild.
Just the fact that half of it are 200 possible combinations.
Just having 57 sauce just on hand is kind of cool.
Yes.
I think my go to here would be, would be jalapeno.
But I think you can, can you add the,
can you say the enhancers again?
These are what, these are what's included.
I don't know if you have the sample list.
I think he's saying freestyle.
I think he's saying play with it.
Yeah, I think they're saying you could make a franken sauce
of your own if you wanted to,
but jalapeno, the ones they give examples,
three of them are spicy.
jalapeno smokey chipotle buffalo and also mango.
I think like a smokey chipotle ranch sounds nice.
I mean, I think using the ranch
is just adding any sort of heat to the ranch feels like that. Okay, so that
isn't an option in this machine, but you would do a smoky Chipotle ranch. No, that isn't
option. Oh, you can do ranch. Oh, shit. I would do like mayonnaise and mustard. Wait,
is that count? I guess not. Just do so. In your dream machine. Yeah. In the dream
machine. That was your dream machine. Yeah. I like a, I like a,
yeah, like a, I like a little jalapeno ranch. I like the, I like, I think jalapeno is all right.
I, I've had a spicy ketchup before and I like it. But honestly, I'm going to go straight up
57 sauce, just to have some 57 sauce because I like 57 sauce. You don't always see 57 sauce.
Yeah. You know what's fucking dumb? The fucking Jimmy Buffett, they have the cheeseburger and paradise
of the Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville and it doesn't have fines 57 on it. That's insane.
That's the whole, the whole thing is it's, and we can play about this stuff when we went
together in Vegas. I, uh, you should start a letter writing campaign. Oh, we did. Yeah,
we did. Jimmy Buffett wrote a song about it. Um, I,
man, when you just said mustard and, uh, and mayo, what a great combo.
Yeah, you know what I would say like, like, like anytime you have a mustard, you can
use as a base for so many things.
Yeah.
You add like a, like a horseradish to a mustard.
So that's delightful. Obviously you can sweeten it up a little bit,
you know, with some honey.
I really like a spicy barbecue sauce.
And I feel like that would be a thing I would do is like,
maybe that buffalo in the barbecue sauce,
just kind of have a spicy sauce.
My issue with like the Heinz barbecue sauce
is that it's like too sweet.
Well, again, this is your dream machine.
Okay, all right, all right.
Yeah, I would cut it.
It's not gonna cut it, would be good.
And I think cutting it, you could cut it quite a bit
with some of those smoky flavor or a jalapeno flavor.
Where are these things available?
These sauce.
Oh no, she's.
Right now they're only available,
I get my house in a couple of other George Wands house.
Oh.
Yeah, I think it's called the Heinz remix.
Can I say something?
And I don't think it's out anywhere yet.
What?
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
You're totally right.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine.
We don't need this machine. We don't need this machine. We don't need this machine. We don't need this machine. We don't need this machine. Griffin Newman, our buddy loves branch. He's king of branch.
What's that cranberry's in ranch?
No, it's ketchup in ranch.
Oh, I bet.
I was like, is it?
But I'm now thinking of, with that work,
I don't think it would work.
I don't know if it would work either.
I don't know, like a sweet, maybe a sweet ranch
would maybe work.
But you would have to know what you would have to be doing.
On some bread, on some bread on some bread.
Grandberry ranch. Grandberry. The name of the band is very. I know, I know, but the cranberry
the cranberry ranch things about the song I know. No, you did it.
I did it.
I was smiling.
I look, again, I feel like I'm not a dork anymore.
I...
I'm my dork too, you think?
Yeah, of course.
That's why you didn't say...
Look, you're in the room with me, everyone else is still at home.
We're late about the house.
Oh.
Uh, I,
hmm.
I just don't, I mean,
I don't, I don't think that this thing needs to,
needs to exist, but if there was a cranberry ranch,
I think that it would work with jalapeno poppers, wags,
the, the RVs, the RVs that,
that would work.
Ooh, also on like a turkey sandwich, you guys. That would work. You know what I mean? You know Arbis that would work. Oh also on like a turkey sandwich you guys that would work
You know what I mean? You know what maybe you would work a Thanksgiving sandwich. You know what cranberry ranch
Maybe would work the cranberry mayo I think could work definitely I think cranberry so cranberry ranch would work
I'm very rich should have gone with a I
Spread you want some chicken finger
That would have been better.
We texted a linger.
Oh, what was that about?
What was that?
Oh, I gotta look it up.
Linger.
Yeah, I was like, you know, I'm eating chicken finger.
That's what it was.
You stole my song.
That's what it was.
That's what it was.
Or maybe it was about bingeing. It wasn't about binge. Like, you know, I've always been a
binger. And like, can I eat your chicken finger? It was something like that. Yeah, a binger.
It's like a beer rhyme. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, binger. Well, I'll look it up. Always forget this out.
Look what up? Well, we figure it out. a lot of stuff. I think we're done.
We've been done for a while.
We're just on fumes here.
Okay, here it is.
Yeah.
Oh, I think I'm gonna drool on you.
You know, I've always been a binger.
Can I eat your chicken finger? Can I eat your, and then I think you pitched on this.
You got, okay, yes, okay. Do I have to squirt a stinger? I think that's if you had like a spicy,
I ate something spicy, now I get like fucking hot diarrhea. Oh my god, what?
like fucking hot diarrhea. Oh my god, what?
Oh so.
Huh?
I think I'm gonna true on you.
You know I've always been a banger.
Oh, it doesn't work.
Yeah.
Can I eat your chicken finger?
Can I eat your chicken finger?
Can I eat your chicken finger?
Can I eat your chicken finger?
Can I eat your chicken finger?
It's difficult because linger and finger, like it's such a great one.
I would record that, remember remember on February 20th, 2023
And hold on at 2.28 a.m
Two two days before that is that Valentine's oh no, it's a couple days after
I was against for someone, you know, maybe that's what you were thinking about. Wags, this is what you pitch, which is good.
Do you have to pull my finger? That's, that's, oh yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
It was, and it was about like a fart lingering, I guess, the dingle berries we said.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah, if you want to go in a grocery direction.
I thought that, I thought Binger at first was like about watching shows.
Like, like, like watching shows culture.
Of like, you're right.
Because drooling on someone, I thought it was a while
we like to sit there like drooling.
Yeah, no, I didn't get it.
I mean, it sucks.
It's a reason we've never sang it.
No, I think that's okay.
And then also there's a,
there's a, can I say that it's the other small song parody?
You know, like, hey, don't write yourself off yet.
You know, that song.
It just takes some time. It was a I wrote down
We must have discussed this to hey don't jerk yourself off yet
Why not what do we know we never we never we never got that much deeper into it

Wow.
Name.
Because I always say Joe and a cow.
Yeah, that is the, that is like the actual Italian pronunciation.
My brother pronounces it that way.
But my dad, who whose name it is,
was like Americanized in Queens,
in back in the day, and they said Kalo.
I love this.
That is like a split family thing. It's very, yeah, it's very ridiculous. and they said Kalo. I love this. That is like a split family thing.
It's very, yeah, it's very ridiculous.
You stick with Kalo.
I say Kalo because it's easier for people to say.
Right.
And, but it is Kalo.
But if you want Kalo, I can say Kalo.
No, we gotta just, we gotta make a decision.
Yeah, we just gotta go to Kalo.
I checked with you beforehand.
I always check.
No, I really appreciate you.
Yeah.
We appreciate you.
Yeah, we appreciate you.
We're very, what's the matter with you? I don't know. My song didn't go over as much as I really appreciate you. Yeah. We appreciate you. Yeah, we appreciate you. We're very, we're.
What's the matter with you?
I don't know.
My song didn't go over as much as I wanted to.
What's he talking about?
It was great.
I was getting people liked it.
Look, we're very excited to have you here.
It's about time.
Well, I'm excited about it.
But tell us about the show and the new season.
New season comes out June 22nd on Hulu. FX on Hulu. All episodes at once. I as a writer,
I'm not really supposed to be promoting it, but as a director, I'm promoting it and very proud.
So also look into the strike. Give us some money if you can. Go out there. Join us on the
picket lines, etc. That's a great way to follow it up. I say, I say this. This is the tricky thing
about the strike. I know.
Because the actors are about to go on strike too.
And it's that difficult thing of when a show or something comes out, that's the exciting
part of it.
I know.
You've worked on this thing.
You've worked.
And also it's like when studios begrudgingly even do spend even just a bit of money on
showing the show and premiering it.
So it is a bummer that like you can't, and I get it, it is worth it for the strike, but
that is the only downside to it where you're like, oh, this is like the part where they
actually sometime, and they don't treat everyone well.
Like I said, they don't have a lot of crew people to these things, it's bad.
You get a sometimes beg to even go to them. But sometimes it is the weird
thing where like, oh, they actually like have to spend a little bit of money to show these
things. Yeah. But and also, you know, it's not just, it's not just me and Chris that make
the show. It's all the actors. It's all the crew who work so hard and do such beautiful
work. And we want to make sure that people see their work and that they get to feel proud too
So it puts us in a complicated spot right now. We don't want to be like studio
Whatever
Yeah, but I'm so proud of the show. I hope people check it out
They probably won't like it because it's the second season and no one likes the second season, but
I'm at least watch it
I'm No least watching it. I'm watching the season two, no one likes it. Yeah, I was rough.
Well, you get what I'm saying when I say this, right?
Like you get that side of it.
Well, you're also a guy who like will never want to go to a...
No, I know your point.
You're talking about like, yes, I worked with this thing.
It's coming out.
There happens to be a labor stoppage right now.
There happens to be this struggle that's odd going,
but you still want people to check it out.
Yeah, of course.
It's a difficult sort of line to walk.
I understand what you're saying.
I understand what you both say.
Yeah, we're happy to have you here.
Yeah, thank you guys.
We're happy to have you here.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Thank you.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.
