They say power corrupts, but that is only ever said by the weak.
Sigh...
So I need to... so I need to take your place in this chair.
Yeah.
And then I'll control...
Freezer.
Can I cast a witch bolt at Leonard?
Can I cast a witch bolt at Leonard?
After a decade of witch bolts, bloodlust and murder,
this man, possibly Chinese, wants to be the new DM of Dragon Friends.
Hello Dragon Friends, it's Ting here. Now we took the Australian summer off but we're back, baby!
The first thing you need to know is that we are starting a little earlier than usual.
In fact, our very first live show this year is coming this Wednesday in Sydney at the Vanguard Theatre in Newtown and
it's about to sell out so you can get tickets from our website. The next thing
to tell you is that after a decade of Dragon Friends this season I, Michael
Hing, he then was Friso, possibly Chinese, I will finally be ascending to my
rightful place in the all-powerful, all-conquering central position of the game
and I'll be DMing this season.
Which I'm so excited about!
So I'm genuinely so thrilled to do it.
Look, this is something I've wanted to do for a while and so firstly I'm very, very,
very, very, very thankful to the rest of the Dragon Friends crew for giving me this opportunity.
And the other thing is I'm going to be DMing the show solo.
So obviously usually we have a DM and we have someone who does the NPCs.
I'll be doing it without a sidekick.
This season the adventure that we are starting is the official D&D Wizards of the Coast book
Tyranny of Dragons.
All the D&D fans may know it by its individual adventure names, Horde the Dragon Queen and
the Rise of Tiamat. Anyway,
that's what we're doing this year. It's classic Dungeons and Dragons. If you're someone who's
taken a break from Dragon Friends and you're hearing this, this will be a brand new adventure
and it'll be a great starting place to jump back in or if you know someone who might be interested.
I think I want to make this a season where it's like you don't need to know everything,
so you can start from here.
And the cast from this season, I'm so excited about them.
First of all, Alex Lee, Simon Griner and Demi Lardner will all be returning.
They'll be playing the same characters from last season, so they're going to be back.
And also Eden and Tom, Eden Lacey and Tom Cardi will be joining this season as players.
And Tom Cardi will also be our musician for this year.
First show is this Wednesday at the Vanguard in Sydney.
That is Wednesday the 5th of February.
Tickets are available at thedragonfriends.com.
Our March show is at the Vanguard too.
That is on Friday the 7th of March.
Then in April we're going to take the show to Melbourne for the Comedy Festival.
And the Melbourne show will be part of the same storyline.
It'll be part of the podcast.
It's going to fucking slap.
I cannot. I'm so excited for the people to be able to come to a live show.
I imagine this show will sell out really quickly.
It's Saturday, the 5th of April at Comedy Republic.
I think it's two forty five in the afternoon.
Tickets for that are available at thedragonfriends.com
or you can go to the Comedy Republic website. That's people in Melbourne. And then we'll
be back at the Vanguard in May. But please come along to those shows. Now, okay. As some
of you may have seen recently, I recently quit quite a high profile television job in Australia.
Anyway, I was on a show called The Project for like three years and I quit very, very
recently and look, it's not like I quit specifically to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends
and I will absolutely deny that if my wife asks me.
But I did kind of quit to play D&D with my friends. Like this stuff,
stuff like this, this is what I want to do now forever. This is it. You know what I mean?
This is, this is, but what I mean is I've been doing comedy for, I don't know, like
15 years now or something, right? And that whole time, the thing that I have always loved
the most and that audiences have always responded to
the most has been me making stuff with my friends.
It's been basically the same people, give or take, for the same kinds of people for
like a few years.
It's always the most fun stuff to make and it always yields the best stuff and it's
the stuff that resonates with you, with listeners, with comedy fans, with
whoever, right? So whether it's improv stand-up videos, podcasts like this, whatever it is,
this crew of people who I met at uni and through fucking around and doing improv shows and
stuff, I think they are just so funny and they're the best and working with them is
always so much fun and creates stuff that makes me laugh so fucking hard.
And look, you know, I've done a lot of stuff in my career.
I've been very fortunate to have a to do a lot of fucking stuff, you know, and I've
worked really hard on lots of different things, but it doesn't matter whatever, whatever
else I've done, the stuff that people always come up to me and say, like, I love this thing.
It's always stuff I've done with this crew of people, you know, that is the Dragon Friends extended universe. It's
always people being like, hey, it's a thing that you guys do that no one else does, you
know? It's so individual to the weird friendship circle that you guys have, and the clear love
we have for each other. I think that's what people like, you know, all these incredible,
really funny people, you know, bouncing off each other and whatever. I guess what I'm
trying to say is as a creative, that's the best thing you can hope for, you know? That
is the dream. And this year, we want to like do that a thousand times over. We want to
do heaps of really cool shit this year.
We've invested in more cameras and equipment to do better production for our Patreon subscribers.
We're bringing on more production staff to help us make more content. We've got some
really, really exciting plans to reinvest in this podcast and just make it the best
fucking D&D podcast it can possibly be.
We wanna branch out and make some non-D&D content too
because we've been doing a D&D show for 10 years
and we wanna level it all up.
We wanna be doing more Twitch streams
and we wanna do some stuff on YouTube
and more different live shows and more improv.
And we will absolutely keep doing Dragon Friends
and it'll be the same fucking weird cum based D&D podcast that
we've done for a decade. But we want to do so much more as a group on top of it. Now,
look, okay, this is the ask. This is the honest. I'm not going to ask you for money.
Of course, we have the Patreon. If you want to support us, I know many of you do and we
love that. That is so great. But also I know a lot of people aren't in a position to do that, and I totally get that.
I've been in a position like that many times in my life.
Okay, here is the earnest ask.
What am I, and this is a genuine request from me.
This is a rare moment of earnestness for a man
who spent a decade playing a psychotic high elf.
But our plan is to make this season of Dragon Friends really, really, really
good. Really exciting. And we just want people to know about it. I think this is going to
be really good. I'm really excited for all the stuff we've got planned. So if you like
what we do, honestly, here's a genuine ask, please. Post about us on your Instagram story
or whatever. Say something nice, tag Dragon Friends.
Honestly, whenever someone tags Dragon Friends in an Instagram story or whatever, it makes
my fucking day.
It makes all that, it makes us feel so good.
Tell a friend about this completely crook Australian D&D podcast you listen to.
Share one of our videos to your TikTok or whatever.
Bring some friends to a live show. I honestly think the other people in this show are so funny and I love them all so much.
And I just want to keep making this D&D show with all my friends.
And as I said, this season is, I think, I hope, my plan is, it's going to be a great
starting off point.
So people, if you come to this, you won't need to know a decade of complex podcast lore
to get into it. So this is my one request,
please help get the word out about the show. And that's really it. That's it. All I'm asking you
to do is post. Just tag us. Like and subscribe or whatever the fuck. All right, that's enough earnestness for now. Come piss shit, come, come piss, self suck, chonkers chonkers come piss shit, poo fart,
etc.
Alright, thank you all, and thank you for listening to this, and I will see you all
at the next show that I will be in charge of, and I will be exacting revenge on my friends!
