Starting point is 00:00:34 What I told people, I was making a podcast about Benghazi. Nine times out of ten, they called me a masochist, rolled their eyes, or just asked, why? Benghazi, the truth became a web of lies. From prologue projects and Pushkin Industries, this is Fiasco, Benghazi. What difference at this point does it make? Listen to Fiasco, Benghazi, on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First of all, you don't know me. We're all about that high school drama girl, drama girl, all about them high school queens.
Starting point is 00:01:12 We'll take you for a ride in our comic girl. Drama girl. Chearing for the right team. Drama queens, drama queens. You could be smart girl, rough girl, fashion but you'll tough girl. You could sit with us, girl. Drama queen, drama queens, drama queens, drama queens, drama queens, drama queens, drama queens. Queens.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Oh, ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas, everyone, and happy holidays all around. We're here for you. Happy holidays, everybody. To everybody who just celebrated Hanukkah, everyone who's celebrating Christmas today, everyone who's celebrating Kwanza tomorrow. There's so much merriment to be made. Such a season of joy. I mean, I like pagan ritual.
Starting point is 00:01:56 where, like, with winter solstice, it just means that we get to shut down. Guys, we get to, like, shut down. I love it. Yeah. And it's fun to have a melting pot of all of our different traditions. What are you guys doing this Christmas? Okay. So I'm probably going to stay here and just nest in my new house.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Yes. I celebrate Christmas, and it's my favorite holiday. It's a meaningful holiday for me. As a Christian, I just, it's a. beautiful time for me to really, like, re-center myself, which I just love, the excuse to be able to do that, because it's just so busy. And, you know, we're all rushing around and trying to make sure we have gifts for everyone, which is so lovely. But I get caught up in it all. So it's nice to have a reason to just settle and get quiet. What do you guys like to do for your holidays?
Starting point is 00:02:50 I feel like with the pandemic, we weren't allowed to follow a lot of our typical traditions for long time. And so our family has traditionally gone to Aster House here in Rhinebeck and hung out with the kids that live there. And like, it's dorky stuff. You know, like we wear goofy slippers and we sing songs and we read books and it's super cute. And then like my... It's so important. My favorite, favorite thing to do on Christmas Eve is find like a local churches, like nativity play. I love, like, community theater nativity play. I'll go anywhere if I can see some like Roman soldiers and the shepherds and the angels scratching his butt. I love it. There was a church in Wilmington that would let all the kids in the congregation be in the play.
Starting point is 00:03:47 And, like, there's three donkeys and there's three sheep. But then the little kids, could dress up as anything they wanted. So there was like Scooby-Doo and a T-Rex. And literally any animal they wanted to be. I think I just like the community involvement of the holiday season. That's my favorite thing. Me too. Me too.
Starting point is 00:04:07 I think what I love is, you know, to your point about following nature is slowing down. I love hibernation season. Yes. Being inside earlier or lighting a fire. You know, making slow. meals having earlier dinner times with friends and family. Like there's something about coming in and being cozy and slow that I love about this season. It's easier to be intentional. Yeah. And I mean, you know, the sun goes down so much earlier. I'm tired earlier. I feel like, I feel like there's
Starting point is 00:04:43 permission to catch up on rest. And one of the things I love so much, you know, growing up in a family that celebrated Hanukkah and Christmas is the permission to learn what's important to people. That's really what that gave to me. You know, having two holidays in our home meant that I got really curious about other people's holidays and about other traditions. And so for me, it became really special to dig into other spaces, you know, whether that was learning about Kwanza, whether that was taking a, you know, a year to study. Eastern philosophy or a year of Islamic study in high school, like really learning about
Starting point is 00:05:26 where people find belief has helped me see what I think is sort of the through line everywhere. And interestingly, always brings me back to how special nature is, to like really the sacred space of where we live on this planet together. It's such a gift. Yeah. It's It really just, it makes me want to get still and, and, you know, reflect on community on all of us, like, being together. And I think for that reason, it's really one of my favorite times of the year. I always wanted to celebrate Hanukkah. And we never, I mean, my parents weren't Jewish, so they didn't ever do that. And I've never had a chance to, like, the really, I mean, I've been to a Seder and I've been to friends' houses for, like, a day or a night.
Starting point is 00:06:16 But I've never really done the full. What do you do for the eight days? It's so great. I mean, it depends. Now, especially that everyone is sort of like older and all over the place. We make sure that we're together at least either on the first or the last night. But it is really special, especially when you're little to like be with your whole family and have this ritual for you days. It's really beautiful. And again, I think I think the way we all crave like a slowness, there's something so. amazing about the routine of it you know ceremony yeah the nightly ceremony is really really special well we hope wherever you guys are at home you are with people that you love or you're taking some time for yourself and really like enjoying your time this is a great season of reflection and we're so grateful for everything that you guys have have given to us and reflected with us you know that's what our whole show's about yeah when we talk about community you know that's
Starting point is 00:07:20 That's obviously the three of us here, but that's also all of you at home with us. And whether you're with family or like us three on this Zoom, your chosen family, it's certainly a season that we hope you all feel loved and appreciated. Yeah, we love you guys. My prayer for all of us is that the God of our understanding would speak to us all in a way that inspires us and is encouraging and brings us into a new place of peace. and joy for the new year. Sending you guys lots of love. And I sure hope for that new year.
Starting point is 00:07:56 I just got to say it. I know a lot of people really beat up on themselves with New Year's resolutions. Ooh, no. No, no. You know, the spirit of our show is like taking something we do and making it better and cooler. Yeah. So I would love to ask, you know, that you guys join us in doing something that we do together, which is we set like, intentions. Oh yeah. Manifest. Yeah, like badass lady goals. We don't punish ourselves with
Starting point is 00:08:25 resolutions. So if you guys want to like get intentional and stir up some shit with us in 2023, some drama? Some drama you said? Some drama you say?
