They get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. This is Absolute Season 1, Taser Incorporated.

In our short time, we have reached a lot of milestones as well as brought podcasting to a whole new audience. We've also had the opportunity to speak to artists we consider to be serious legends and pioneers of our culture. Coming soon, we have shows from the likes of Kid N Play, Proz of the Fugees, basketball legend Matt Barnes, and a lot more. To celebrate our two-year anniversary, we decided to bring back some moments from our very first shows. So let's just get right into it.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Haz, let's go. Damn, my brother. He was the first one? That was Jose Luis, gotcha. I was so gassed because the first shit he said was, Jose Luis, gotcha. All Latinos felt that way.
Starting point is 00:03:53 All of us felt that way. When Joe met me, though, he was like, I'm not sure if he's Puerto Rican. You gotta tell him a story. He caught me. I caught him. He was at the Puerto Rican parade. This is the first time. I caught him. He was at the Puerto Rican parade. And I seen him. This is the first time.
Starting point is 00:04:08 And I helped him up. It was like thousands of niggas around me. And I helped him up. I forgot you don't smoke weed. I don't smoke weed. My memory is phenomenal. So I helped the nigga up. And I was like, yo, what's up, nigga? Yo, we fuck with you, nigga.
Starting point is 00:04:20 We was hype, right? And then, but what he want me to get at is, he always said he's Spanish, but he be with black niggas and he look black. So we never totally believed him. You know what I'm saying? So one day I'm in Chicago and a nigga called me up. He's like, yo, you got a show at House of Blues?
Starting point is 00:04:40 I said, yeah. He said, yo, my family want to come to the show. So I'm like, all right, no question. Nori, look, I said yo my family will come to the show so I'm like no question nori I'm in the hotel. So the niggas meet me in the lobby. I meet him Nigga come over with the guaya better. That's some, brother. I'm like, what? This nigga's like, Bobby, you have to sign. You know what I'm saying? Well, he ain't going to have to sign. I was like, what the fuck?
Starting point is 00:05:12 Nigga, really? Puerto Rican? I might have called a hundred niggas. Yo, this nigga, he wasn't front. I'm looking at the Puerto Rican niggas right now. He's really Puerto Rican. Oh, my God. The real Puerto Ricans came in Chicago, my nigga. Right, right. Nah, that shit was-
Starting point is 00:05:29 That was crazy. That was very funny, man. That was very funny, man. That was crazy, my nigga. Yeah, so let me ask you something, right? The thing about you is, what people don't understand about you is you're actually a lyricist. Like, you make party records, but even in your party records, like I told this, I said, Joe is
Starting point is 00:05:52 one of my top friends of all time, but when it comes time to do a feature for me, he's like the worst list. But not because he's not going to do it, it's he takes his time with something. Like, you actually do. I know you never diss me.
Starting point is 00:06:06 You're my brother. You know what I'm saying? I eat in your crib on Thanksgiving. I would never diss you. You eat in my crib all the time with our families. Yeah, we share. You're my brother, so it's not... But do you think you're a perfectionist? Definitely a perfectionist with everything.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Yeah. Sometimes, the way shit move nowadays, niggas get mad at how i am because i like to roll it out right yeah you know i'm saying and that's key to a lot of shit maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm right maybe i ain't the smartest nigga but i want to make sure shit gets his buck for his money with everything we do right you know i'm saying like, with these young kids I'm fucking with right now, they're the first niggas I fucked with in years. They got fire. And I'm still like, yo, we need more. We need more.
Starting point is 00:06:51 We need more. Because you can't make a first impression twice. And then rap-wise, I ain't going to lie to you. No matter who I rap with, I try to take their head off. It's just a fact. I got to go in and, and you know you invite me and he's very scared because fat jokers people probably probably don't think he's the best rapper in the world but hold on i'm just saying people probably don't think i'm the best rapper in the
Starting point is 00:07:18 world but i'm like the mexican nigga you don't want to fight in the boxing ring. Because you're not going to stop. Because he's not going down. He's a hell of a fighter. He's one of them niggas that you're scared to fight. You're scared to fight him because you know he's going to go. You're going to have to kill this nigga in the ring. You know what I'm saying? So that's how it is with raps. Because when you invite me to it, and the worst nigga was Pun.
Starting point is 00:07:45 You know what I'm saying? What, Pun was going for niggas' heads, man. Since Pun died, who was like a person that you did a record with and you was like,
Starting point is 00:07:52 man, let me be on my best, best, best game? Everybody. Everybody. I tell my son that every day. But it's not like
Starting point is 00:07:59 just one person who's a little scared of? MC shit. Everybody. Everybody. Every time I go in the booth. All right, let me tell you a secret. I'll tell you in front of the whole world that I never told nobody.
Starting point is 00:08:10 That's right, because the whole world listening. Make some noise for the whole fucking world listening. God damn it. I like how you threw that out there, Joe Crack. Thank you very much. The whole world is listening. Every night, my whole career, every night I got in the studio, to this night, I never know if I'm going to die when I in the studio to this night you know I never know
Starting point is 00:08:26 if I'm going to die when I leave the studio so when I do my work in the studio I go the hardest I could go in history when I work on my music because if I die I know that's the only thing that's going to remind people for years
Starting point is 00:08:42 and years 20-30 years later that I put it down. Now, if you want to say, Fat Joe, if you want me to tell you how I really feel, I feel like I'm one of the most underrated rappers of all time. And that's why I've been in the game this long and I still make music. And every time I'm like a little kid waiting for his father on Christmas, I'm waiting for niggas to finally give it up. And they act like it's luck that you've been in the game for 20 years. They act like it's luck that you put out 10, 15 top number five records in the world. Sold millions.
Starting point is 00:09:18 They act like this shit. Like, yo, he's just a lucky nigga. You understand what I'm saying? But it takes dedication to that. So, like, with this album with Remy, I'm spitting my ass off. And I'm like, all right, maybe this time they'll finally listen and be like. You know, because right now it's a little different for me. I'm a little older.
Starting point is 00:09:41 You know what I'm saying? I'm a veteran. The young niggas don't look at me as a threat no more I'm not saying physically they just don't look at me as like I'm their competition right so now they're able to say yo my nigga we love your shit you know you're a vet yo we fuck with you nigga you a legend before it was more like they were scared to tell me that because they felt like we was still competing. The thing they don't know is that we really still competing. Make some noise for that guy. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:10:11 I love that attitude. Love that. Oh, I forgot. We competing. So on this album right here, I'm spitting my ass off so that maybe, just maybe, niggas can look and listen to this album and be like, ooh, this nigga crazy. Let me ask you one more. What's the one record that a producer played for you or brung you
Starting point is 00:10:33 and you didn't fuck with? Oh, you're crazy. The record that you just said, Rihanna, you fucked up. No, I fucked up. My thing, well, you know I put it out there That I could've signed Eminem Six times No I've never heard this story Wow No that's a fact
Starting point is 00:10:48 No I've never heard this story You gotta give it You gotta give it to us It's out there For real Swear to God At what point At what point
Starting point is 00:10:55 When he went to New York I was with Eminem We went We was having dinner one day He was like Yo Joe Crack You know I gave you my demo Six times
Starting point is 00:11:01 I said what This is after he's the Hi I'm Cheney But you didn't remember This is after he's be high but you didn't remember before before so the nigga turned around he was that gave it to you how can I be down I gave it to you Jack the rapper I gave it to you in Atlanta I gave it to you in Jersey when I was with the outsiders I gave it he knew every time he gave me his demo and I was like Jesus Christ I could have had him and them but the record I sat in the house with Salam Remy and uh and he made Fuji live for me oh shit Fuji Fuji live and then and I
Starting point is 00:11:41 sat down to you for me in this living room and I was I'm trying to picture you For me in this living room and I was there with him for hours and then he was like yo Joe like a week later He was like yo Joe you um You you want this record and I was like now I'm good. He was like you want this record I was like now I'm good and then it was Fuji Live. You know what my record was? And I got another one bigger than that. Let me just tell you. Because I have the same exact story. Track Masters was in the studio with me.
Starting point is 00:12:14 And they made, Nori, Nori, that fucking Nori. That's just y'all, man. Y'all want to fuck with y'all. Nori, Nori, that fucking Nori. And I was like, yo, niggas in the hood. You're going to laugh at me. That's right, yo, niggas in the hood gonna laugh at me. That's our nigga. Niggas gave me the whole fucking thing.
Starting point is 00:12:28 I told them I didn't want it, but I was still mad. You probably wanted to vomit. I was still mad. I'm going to tell you my story. See, Scott's thought to me, our chemistry was like, if I knew what I knew now, then I probably would have been the richest nigga in the world because I worked with Scott Storch five times. All five songs went number one in America.
Starting point is 00:12:55 It's just the bottom line. Every time I sat down with the nigga, we made it number one. If I knew that now, I would have had 50 songs with Scott Storch at that time. I would have OD'd. I wouldn't have never left them. I would have been on a nigga, breathing on a nigga like, yo, Scott, let's do another one. Yo, Scott, let's do another, right? So I come and I make, what is it?
Starting point is 00:13:19 Candy Shop. I made that beat. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do. And then. Candy Shop. I made that beat. And he was going out with Little Kim. So the way I make beats with Scott is he could play whatever. So I would tell him. That's how I made Lean Back. He just did whatever I said. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, that's how I made Lean Back. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,
Starting point is 00:13:47 boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,
Starting point is 00:13:55 boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, up in there more. We was doing the beat to this bitch. She was doing her little I'm like, yo, it got to be more Arabic, nigga. We got to do the Yo, nigga, we got Lil' Kim up in there doing the Arabic dance and shit. So then, the nigga, now I'm going Kim up in there doing the Arabic dance and shit.
Starting point is 00:14:25 So then, the nigga, now I'm going to keep it a buck with y'all. I don't even know if I can keep it too much a buck. But what I can say is we did it. That was right after Leanback. It would have been a humongous hit. And some of my niggas in my crew convinced me not to do it. They was like, ah. That's what happened to me.
Starting point is 00:14:46 You know, so I leaned back, my nigga. You keep going with Scott Storch. I should have been like, yeah, nigga, every time I fuck with him, it's number one. Golden Child. Nah, son. Do this one and I pick the other shit. I know you've been searching For someone Instead of that shit
Starting point is 00:15:05 So Scott might have called me I'm going to tell you I'm going to keep it a buck Scott called me maybe 50 times in a row I had no beef with 50 Cent Right So
Starting point is 00:15:18 I had no beef with him At the time You know that was my next question So the nigga called me Let's just say 40 times. You sure you don't want that beat? Everybody says they hit, Joe. 50 cent is in the air right now.
Starting point is 00:15:33 He wants to pay me whatever on earth for this shit. Are you sure, Joe? I won't give him the beat, Joe. This is your beat. Like, he would not stop calling. Like, are you sure, Joe? You don't want this shit? I'm like, nah, I don't want it. Yo, Joe. It was his OD and I was like, nah, nah, nah, I'm good. That shit was like number one in the universe.
Starting point is 00:15:55 After Apple. It was already. Oh, he told you prior to him selling it. He told you before. Oh, yeah. He didn't give up the song. Okay. I told him I ain't want it. Yeah, he hit him 50 times. Jigga, jigga. You know what I'm saying? My artist, I wish I would have signed, would have to be hands down Pharrell.
Starting point is 00:16:13 I can't tell you that Pharrell told me to sign him, but he said, could you shop my beats? This is 100% a real story. I went to bring him to see Nas. At the time, me and Nas was mad cool. Nas, he didn't know how to roll. A blunt? I don't neither.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I wrote the worst blunts in the world, but we gonna smoke. Don't judge me. You know what I'm saying? Shit would be curved. I wrote pregnant blunts. Uncircumcised shit. You know what I mean? But so he asked me to shop it.
Starting point is 00:16:54 So I went, I bring it to Nas. And he made, oh, baby, you want me? Oh, baby, you want me? I wanted that beat so bad. After you heard it. He said, yo, I made it for Nas. I said, dad, I'm not a hater. He's my brother.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I brung it to Nas. He actually played it. Nas loved it in the studio. Soon as he left, Nas said, yo, why your man's shirt so tight? Small world. Why your man's shirt so tight? Yo world. Niggas, they see my vision. Yo, I was discouraged
Starting point is 00:17:27 because I was like, yo, I knew that. Like, this wasn't, like, we made Superdome, don't make it. We got the number one record in the country. This nigga's doing way worse,
Starting point is 00:17:40 different shit now. But he was the first one, though. So, yeah, so, and that would be my That would be my You know Cause again Pharrell
Starting point is 00:17:50 Chad Rob Walker They never said Sign me But they said Shop my beats So to me Which is the same
Starting point is 00:17:57 Shop's like management You know me and you We fall from From the same tree Where we helped A lot of people get Recognition Get in the game And all we wanted Spiff of people get recognition, get in the game.
Starting point is 00:18:05 And all we wanted. Spiff TV slept on my couch to meet Rick Ross in college. But he also washed your clothes. Yeah, we was happy. He also washed clothes? Yeah, it was true. Yeah, a little bit. What?
Starting point is 00:18:14 In New York City, he washed my drawers. Stop. Nah. I mean, I'm a. I was from Rikers Island at the time, Joe. Stop. Let's just stop. Nah, let me stop.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Let me stop. That's my brother. That's my brother. No, but it's true. Nah, nah, but yo, come on. He had laundry duty. Nah, let's not do that. Come on, that's my brother. Let's not do that. He's a good guy. Let's my brother. It is true. He had laundry duty. Let's not do that. He's a good guy.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Let's leave him alone. It shows you the progression. Chris Ladyhound, great. You got to listen. It is true. It is true. It's not disrespected. It is true. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:18:43 He mopped my floors too. Surgeon General Fat Joe's not disrespecting. It is true. Yo, what are you talking about? He mopped my floors, too. And he also brought... Surgeon General Fat Joe's not cosigning this disrespect. It's not foul. It's not foul. He also brought me a strip mall. It's not foul. It's not foul. He's my brother.
Starting point is 00:18:53 He knows this. I just... He knows this. Why can't it be... If it's true... Yo, stop. He'll say... If it's true, why can't it...
Starting point is 00:19:00 You got it all. Guys, you got it all. He'll say this to you. You said it. Stop. Y'all niggas are crazy. Yo, you got it all. He'll say this to you. You said it. Stop. Y'all niggas are crazy. Yo, you got to... Yo.

Starting point is 00:19:16 We got a lot of piece of shit brothers. Yeah, piece of shit brothers. You got a lot of people that... I got a lot of piece of shit. It's that cousin you... Like, you're not kind. It's like, whatever. But it's still family.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Yeah, it's still family. You got to find the good in people. The negative. That's what my father used to say. My father used to say, when you see people, see the good in them first, and then you see the bad. Yeah, you know, I got an uncle, he lies a lot. Like, he's a pathological liar. The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration in the United States. Recipients have done the improbable, showing immense bravery and sacrifice in the name of something much bigger than themselves.
Starting point is 00:19:54 This medal is for the men who went down that day. It's for the families of those who didn't make it. I'm J.R. Martinez. I'm a U.S. Army veteran myself, and I'm honored to tell you the stories of these heroes on the new season of Medal of Honor, Stories of Courage from Pushkin Industries and iHeart Podcast. From Robert Blake, the first black sailor to be awarded the medal, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice.
Starting point is 00:20:24 These are stories about people who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor, going above and beyond the call of duty. You'll hear about what they did, what it meant, and what their stories tell us about the nature of courage and sacrifice. Listen to Medal of Honor on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A lot of times the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding. But the price has gone up, so now I only buy one. The demand curve in action.
Starting point is 00:21:10 And that's just one of the things we'll be covering on Everybody's Business from Bloomberg Businessweek. I'm Max Chavkin. And I'm Stacey Vanek-Smith. Every Friday, we will be diving into the biggest stories in business, taking a look at what's going on, why it matters, and how it shows up in our everyday lives. But guests like Businessweek editor Brad Stone, sports reporter Randall Williams, and consumer spending expert Amanda Mull will take you inside the boardrooms, the backrooms, even the signal chats that make our economy tick. Hey, I want to learn about VeChain.
Starting point is 00:21:36 I want to buy some blockchain or whatever it is that they're doing. So listen to Everybody's Business on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I know a lot of cops, and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. Across the country, cops called this taser the revolution. But not everyone was convinced it was that simple. Cops believed everything that taser told them.
Starting point is 00:22:13 From Lava for Good and the team that brought you Bone Valley comes a story about what happened when a multibillion-dollar company dedicated itself to one visionary mission. I'll correct my kids now and then where they'll say when cave people were here and I'll say it seems like the ice age people that were here didn't have a real affinity

Starting point is 00:37:27 When niggas get on a mic with each other, nigga, nigga, I'm trying to kill you, nigga. That's a fact. Niggas know that, nigga. That's from the beginning. We all know that. You know what I'm saying? Even if he's aiming to make a hit, he's still competitive in nature. I used to tell my niggas that all the time.
Starting point is 00:37:42 I used to try to let them know, like, nigga, let me tell you something. I love you, nigga. You get on this joint with me, you better act like you. You know what I'm saying? So you better do the same to me. But I used to just try to bring the best out of niggas if I let them know. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:37:53 Like, nigga, because that's what I was about, nigga. I'm going to get, I want to hurt. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know. This was very interesting. Starting point is 00:44:36 I still don't think I'm saying it right. Opulent. Well, if you're not familiar with those wine terms, which I'm definitely not, congratulations. You're just like me and Nori. I don't care if a wine club or a critic babble on about her bogusness, and I'm still saying that wrong. I just want to know, does it taste good? Does it get me nice? You know, does it look good in the glass? Lucky for us, we found First Leaf. It's the only wine club that's based on your taste buds. We just received our first First Leaf order, and these are some amazing wines, incredible wines.
Starting point is 00:45:12 I mean, Nori was telling me he got some ill stuff. Customize your First Leaf order by selecting the color, wine regions, and frequencies of your wine shipments. First Leaf then creates an introductory three packs of wine to get you started. I mean, the ones that I got, right up my alley. And I'm telling you, I don't even drink wine just like that. My lady loves wine. But if it tastes, you know, if there's a certain taste in the wine, I'm messing with it. And I definitely, I definitely fucks with these wines. With the First Leaf's introductory pack, you'll get all three for just five bucks. For just five bucks each, straight up. Normally, these bottles of wine go for $20 each, if not more.
Starting point is 00:45:56 When your bottles arrive, rate the wine to get personalized selections based on your unique tastes. The more wines you rate, the better your recommendations will be. Starting point is 00:47:07 How the fuck did that happen? Bring us through that. What happened was, by the time I got my deal, I felt like I was vindicated. I was like, yes, finally. That's a big word. Finally. I felt like it was owed to me. Big mistake on my behalf, but that's another story.
Starting point is 00:47:30 But an offer was made to me that if I could, after I dropped my first album, an offer was made to me that if I was able to drop another album or record another album within 30 days, that I'd get a million dollars. That's your first time having a million, correct? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You had a million or two. First time I was offered a million. Offered a million. I street. Yeah, yeah, yeah. First house, offered a million. Offered a million. That's hard.

It's Dark and Hell is Hot. And then, it wasn't Flesh and Moth. It's Dark and Hell is Hot. Flesh and Moth was the last.
Starting point is 00:47:55 Flesh and Moth was the last. Flesh and Moth was the last. Flesh and Moth was the last. Flesh and Moth was the last. Then there was X. Got niggas like, what's next? And again, great impression, great chance to hear Dog again. We got grind on the podcast.

Because last time somebody told you the inmates was running the building, you was disappointed. I'm grateful for the way you phrased it. Last time someone told me inmates was running the building, inmates wasn't really running the building. But you never was on Rikers Island with him, so you didn't know.
Starting point is 00:49:33 Not with him. You for sure know. I was on Rikers Island. In our mind, we was on Rikers Island. But not with him. I wasn't on. I don't even think I ever been to Rikers Island. That nigga?

Starting point is 00:50:01 The first part about it is I, so, you know, typically New York nigga When they jump on the floor Well, they just go Yeah So, you know We all jumped on the floor And then we go
Starting point is 00:50:10 And nigga know it Wait I'm like, wait, wait Of course you can't hear Because, you know The engine is dumb loud I chase him He gets away from me
Starting point is 00:50:19 Because he was like Mad far ahead I thought he was going to Go half a block And turn around And I'll tell you What he said Between stop signs It's like at least it. I thought he was going to go half a block and turn around. And I'll tell you where he was at. Between stop signs, it's like at least a mile. I'm like, oh, he'll stop.
Starting point is 00:50:31 Maybe he'll stop. He was on the ATV joint? Yeah. And the smallest engine we had was 500. The 500. That was the smallest engine we had. So our shit was fast. So this nigga dipped off.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Yo, I bust my ass. Yo, when he came back, because there was like a thing to be had. So our shit was fast. Yo, this nigga dipped off. Yo, I bust my ass. Yo, when he came back, because there was like a ditch on your side. No, it's a story. You were shooting a movie. Yeah, I was shooting a movie. Oh, the horror movie. Yeah, the horror movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:55 The dude from Fast and Furious. Yeah, I brought all of them to school. He had the crazy little hair, right? And, you know, I said, I'll fight in my house. He went, brother, I'll fight in my house. Yes. I got the pool in the backyard, family, right? And you know, I said, I'm right in my house. I'm right in my house. I got the pool in the backyard. Family,
Starting point is 00:51:07 kids out there. Yo, his men, yo, gets by the pool, takes his pants off, they got the fucking thongs on.
Starting point is 00:51:14 They get, you know, white dude with the motherfucking long hair jumping like, no, yo, no.
Starting point is 00:51:19 People I'll shoot the movie with. Make some noise for people I'll shoot the movie with. Come on, come on. Yo,
Starting point is 00:51:24 your name's never watched it, yo, Charles, you gotta clap your, Henny, noise for people out there. Right, right, right. Come on, come on. Yo, your name's never watched it. Yo, Charles, you got to clap your... Henny, Henny. Henny. Yo, but X, let me just tell you
Starting point is 00:51:30 that day, right? Yo, you was getting 10 million a movie at that time. Yeah. And when you called me, you said, I said, yo,
Starting point is 00:51:37 you said, you in Arizona? You got to come see me. Exactly. And then I said, y'all got like 20 people with you. That was a little while away.
Starting point is 00:51:43 Yeah, nah, we was in Tucson. Right, right. We was in Arizona. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Two hours away a little while away. Yeah, no, we was in Tucson. Right, right. We was in Arizona. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Two hours away. Two hours away. And yo, let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Cheers. Them people, oh, I'm sorry. Right there, wait. That's a different cup. That's a different cup. God damn it. Yo. Let's get it on.
Starting point is 00:51:58 And X took care of all my people. Listen. Yo. All my people, X took care. Man of a charge. All that. Everything, man. Everything's cooking. Yo, this's the funny stuff though my home girl my home girl she was like you know see unless I grew up with him she's from the hood so we in the house
Starting point is 00:52:16 is this family environment so she get the wiping on but her nipples is down by her waist you know nobody was partying, we get a film environment. So normally, I think he kind of forgot there was a film environment. Nothing disrespectful. Right, right. But he was like,
Starting point is 00:52:32 yo, that's where the bitch is at. We got a moment. That's where the bitch is at. And the homegirl was like, we back here. She was like, no, you auntie.
Starting point is 00:52:41 Chill, chill, you auntie. Make some noise if you respect an auntie. The crazy shit is she was younger than both of us. Right, right. But the way she look, that was auntie. She cooking herself with her nipples down here.
Starting point is 00:52:56 You auntie boo-boo. Chill. Yo. Yo. It was a pleasure to have you there. Nah, man. Let me tell you something. DMX, you're one of the most influential people in hip-hop.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Thank you. For sure. You changed the norm from two albums in a year. There's not a lot of people that can do that after you, before you, in between you. Not credible ones. And we appreciate you for sharing the Drink Chance podcast. We assure that. We're afraid that you lost it.
Starting point is 00:53:21 We're afraid of it. We're afraid of it. Slapped it on. Yeah, yeah. And you're a hit. your shirt? It's right over there. Yeah. And you a hitter, C-Guy. You got the red Timberlands. Keeping it real. Flesh of my flesh, blood of your blood. So listen, let me ask you here.
Starting point is 00:53:37 Blood of my blood. What? So everybody thought you was blood at one point. Are you gang affiliated or you new to 50-50? Are you gang affiliated? Neutron, Neutron. You can do whatever you want. Huh?
Starting point is 00:53:53 Nah, nah. Real shit? Nah, nah. The bloods. I got the homies, you know what I'm saying, on the blood. The homeboys with the clip. Real niggas fuck with the kid. Real niggas fuck with the kid. Real niggas fuck with the kid.
Starting point is 00:54:06 So, no, I'm not married to one side, you know what I mean? Or one side or the other. But. But you the dog. Real nigga, right. Dog. And, and, and, and, what, everything I did naturally. Dog, red, blood, all that.
Starting point is 00:54:19 It would look like. But it wasn't leaning that way. It was leaning like a mother. Oh, it wasn't leaning like a mother. It was leaning like a mother. Oh, it was leaning like a mother. It was leaning. I mean, but I never got into it like that. I got to ask you the same question we ask everybody.
Starting point is 00:54:34 Who was your favorite CEO? You've been on. CEO? CEO. Like, look at that. You had your back. They had your bell money. You know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:54:44 CEO that you were assigned to. Well, I was assigned to one. Whoever you know, whatever. CEO that you were assigned to. Wow, what was I assigned to? Whoever you want to add, it's okay. I got to say, I want some real shit. Lior. Lior. That's what I said. Let's make some noise for Lior. Let's make some noise for Lior. You know what we call Ali?
Starting point is 00:55:01 We call Ali, Ali-or. Ali-or. He doesn't want the name, but we gave it to him. This is something a lot of people don't understand. The top three people at Def Jam had lie in their name. What? I don't know where this is going. Break it down. Break it down, man.
Starting point is 00:55:16 The top three people, it was Lee-or, which is spelled L-Y, or lie-or, Cohen. Jew Lee, J-U-L-I-E, or Kevin Lyles. Top three people. This makes no sense. Everybody make noise. What did you get out of that? What is that telling you?
Starting point is 00:55:37 I just told you. The top three people had Ly in their name. But this is what bothered me because Lyor came to our studio. Thursday, South Broadway. I mean, we're in the studio. That's in Manhattan? It's in Yonkers.
Starting point is 00:55:51 Yonkers. That's it. My jaw was still wired shut. This is when you got signed. I heard about this story. This is when he knew he would sign me. Okay. My jaw was wired shut.
Starting point is 00:56:01 And the lobster guy signed first to Buff. And D, from Ruff Island, Darren, he bought me, gave me to Puff. And one thing I respect about Puff, one thing I respect about him in real shit, is that at least he told me to my face what he felt. And D told Puff, he said, yo, if you like the lobster, you're going to love that. And I spit or whatever, and he was like, nah. His voice is too rough. He's unmarketable.
Starting point is 00:56:31 Didn't like it, but I had to respect it. He fucked up. Let's make some noise for Puff fucking up. Hold up. Hold up. He came right behind and tried to clean up. So maybe three weeks later when he found out I was getting signed for Def Jam, he was like, yo, I'll lace
Starting point is 00:56:45 your pockets. I'll double what they gave you and lace your pockets. I'm like, nah, I'm good. Nah, I'm with you. Because if you didn't see the beast that I was then. What point did he tell you that? What point? Maybe three weeks after I got signed to Def Jam. He's like, yo, I'll lace your pockets. I'll
Starting point is 00:57:01 double what they gave you and lace your pockets. I'm like, nah, I'm cool. So it's a legendary story. You didn't know. I said, but it's a, I respect that about puff. Right.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Right. I mean, because a lot of motherfuckers, they see you in a wild goose. They won't tell you. Oh, call me later. Call me later.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Yeah, industry stuff. I respect the fact that he told me to my face. He said, you know what? Your voice is too rough and you're not marketable. So at least he was willing to, in my mind, what I think he's saying is work on this. Right. So, Ax, listen.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Constructive criticism. It's a famous story that said that when you and Jay-Z battled, right? Because this battle happened, right? Correct? A couple times. A couple of times. It wasn't just once. Nah. So Biggs,
Starting point is 00:57:52 Burke, they said that Big L recorded that battle. Do you remember Big L being there? Vaguely. No, I can't say that. I know Big L all I know Big L I know Big L
Starting point is 00:58:06 I'm a But you was trying to take Jay-Z out What it was It was World Fighters had Harlem Nights Right
Starting point is 00:58:14 It was from 135th Broadway The project building Right there And And Jay Crew was Original Flavor Original Flavor Right Before they was Rock and Flavor Right and J.Crew was original flavor original flavor
Starting point is 00:58:27 before they was Rock and Fire they had the Hawaiian soupy shit all that so they was it was their
Starting point is 00:58:35 it was their battle so you battled him during I was the big gun on on on my side and
Starting point is 00:58:42 he was the big gun with them niggas and it wasn't Rock and Fire it was original flavor original he was the big gun with them niggas. And it wasn't Rockefeller. It was Original Flavor. No, Original Flavor was the group. Oh, wow. This is...
Starting point is 00:58:50 So, it wasn't Rockefeller then. It wasn't Rockefeller. Nah, Dame Dash was there. Jay-Z was there. Right. You know, they whole crew, the original... Whatever. Right, yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:59 The Hawaiian Sophie. The niggas. So, how you calling it? The Hawaiian Sophie. Yeah, that Hawaiian Sophie nigga. Original Flavor was the name of the group Right Original Flamin
Starting point is 00:59:06 Right Okay And um What Let's just One thing I will give Big G respect for Who won that battle
Starting point is 00:59:13 I bet Okay I've never lost a battle I've never lost a battle I never lost a battle Never Come on Never
Starting point is 00:59:20 Yo I'm a battle rapper I'm a battle rapper I'm a battle rapper I'm a battle rapper So who's a guy That you would like To battle right now If you looked at him
Starting point is 00:59:31 Would like to battle Yeah like you said No one I'd like to battle Because There's a lot of rappers I don't like But I ain't gonna Cut their head off
Starting point is 00:59:39 Don't cut their head off Yeah we're being positive Nah not really Not really Fuck em Fuck em But I ain't gonna Blow up this poppy Because now I have a platform Yeah, we be a positive. Nah, not really. Fuck them, fuck them. But I ain't going to blow up this podcast now. I have a platform where it might be hurtful to what they're doing.
Starting point is 00:59:53 And it might seem like I ain't mad at them. I'm not mad at whack niggas getting money. I'm not mad at whack niggas getting money. There's a lot of whack ass fucking rappers out there. But I ain't going to put them on blast. Because you know what? They have fans. you when you look at the big picture it's like if if there's one rapper right that that has a hit record whatever then he he's gonna employ uh five of his friends and so you see the positive side of that. There's at least seven people from the hood.
Starting point is 01:00:25 Enough of that. They don't have to worry about hustling or doing whatever, stealing. There's at least that many people that's removed from the struggle. So it's a blessing. I look at it like God did that for them. God did that for them. Whether they recognize it or not, it don't matter. But they're in a better place and they're able to help others and they inspire people.
Starting point is 01:00:49 So that's why my eye, if you're successful, then cool. I mean, I don't want to take over the whole market. I don't want to take over the whole market. Amen? I only walk in the dark when my steps are guided. And no matter how dark my path gets, I light it. I ain't never been ashamed of the pain. Can't hide it.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Yeah, the road was rough, but I decided to ride it. Step carefully, but half of me walk recklessly. Fuck, that's just an X in me. Cats can pop like ecstasy. Yo, money challenges, thank you. Him, he's just an X to me. What? DMX, I'm going to keep it real.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Joe Schmo, who just stopped working from the crab house, and he want to start rhyming. He just do Bible off the dash. That's his first shit. You want to give him respect. Right. But at the same time, when he don't understand the record, it's hard. It's hard. Continue.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Go ahead. Now, you got to adapt. Me? No, no. Okay. Everybody. All of us. All of us.
Starting point is 01:01:50 All of us. This is the first time I'm actually saying it, so I've been adapting. All of us. We are from a different era if you don't wake up tomorrow morning and realize it. No, we know that. You don't wake up the next morning And be behind in the race Right Talk to them
Starting point is 01:02:08 Talk to them Talk to the people Now it's not a The integrity level Of artists The loyalty of artists The business Mind frame that they treat they niggas.
Starting point is 01:02:26 So are you going to sit there and say, well, in my day, I felt like you can't do that no more. I ain't. I never did. Now it's about, you a hustler, right? When niggas were smoking regular weed
Starting point is 01:02:44 and then Crip came out Remember Crippy? And then Hydro And then it went to Kush When it was Are you still selling seeds with sticks? Or are you going to switch your hustle And get the fuck out there
Starting point is 01:03:00 And do what you got to do? I agree with you Niggas ain't sellingiggas ain't selling tapes no they ain't advanced on seeing I'm gonna go get CDs and I'm gonna focus on CDs niggas okay now is what is it downloads right the fucking iTunes shit okay nigga selling actual mother's tree in my past that now is that screams. Screams. Now it's if a nigga play your record one time, you get paid. That's an avenue that
Starting point is 01:03:29 they just made it so easy for us if we take our old mentality, our fucking crack ways, our crack mentality and put it to the digital world. It's fucking easy, bro. But you get the nerds.
Starting point is 01:03:46 You get the idea. You put the nerds to work. They want to do that for the freezes. Well, you're going to feel it when a young nigga recreate Bobo on a dash and you get nothing out of it. That's cool. I don't want nothing out of it.
Starting point is 01:04:01 I want him tripped. I want him tripped because it affected my era. You know what it's about? It affected my era the way it's supposed to happen. Hold on, let me say this. And then I want to say something, God damn it. You know what affected me was when I seen the brother who did it, and he didn't even know who I was.
Starting point is 01:04:21 Yeah, but listen. It bothered me. All right, we're going to know that. After you and me. It bothered me. I know it did. But you know what it is? I know it did. You know what it is. After you and me. It bothered me. I know it did. But you know what it is? I know it did.
Starting point is 01:04:27 You know what it is? And I ain't tripping because I'm still getting money. Look, look, look. Go ahead. That's when I go back to telling you that these little niggas
Starting point is 01:04:35 call us OGs. Mm. Listen, listen. Hold on one second. Keep talking, baby. Listen, right? They call us OGs because right now,
Starting point is 01:04:44 before back in the days, your geez you respect it yeah these little niggas don't we saw it no no but not listen hold on but he just said that's my It was a spark that started and just kept going. That's my little cousin, right? Imagine my little cousin could box, right? And he was nice and boxing. He could box. And chill, chill, listen. And I shot the police, right?
Starting point is 01:05:18 Hold on. It went weird. Listen, listen, listen. And he can box. And I shot the police. Just because he can box and he never saw me shoot the police, he don't think he can whip his big cousin ass. So that's going to tell you that these little niggas right now.
Starting point is 01:05:37 I'm still a little off. I ain't going to lie. You got me on that one. I don't know where I'm at. It ain't the battle. It ain't the bell. It ain't the bell. Let's get this right one more time. Say it one more time.
