I know a lot of cops.
They get asked all the time,
have you ever had to shoot your gun?
Sometimes the answer is yes.
But there's a company dedicated to a future
where the answer will always be no.
This is Absolute Season 1.
Taser Incorporated.
I get right back there and it's bad.
Listen to Absolute Season 1. Taser Incorporated on the get right back there and it's bad. Listen to Absolute Season 1, Taser Incorporated,

And this is Season 2 of the War on Drugs podcast.
Yes, sir.
Last year, a lot of the problems of the drug war.
This year, a lot of the biggest names in music and sports.
This kind of starts that a little bit, man.
We met them at their homes.
We met them at their recording studios.
Stories matter, and it brings a face to them.
It makes it real.
It really does.
It makes it real.
Listen to new episodes of the War on Drugs podcast season two

Together, they drink it up with some of the biggest players
in the most professional, unprofessional podcast
and your number one source for drunk facts.
It's time for Drink Champs.
Drink up, motherfucker. And right now, I love doing these episodes. When you have, you know, the artist extraordinaire,
then you have the manager extraordinaire.
You understand what I'm saying?
The person that can talk about in front of the scenes
and the person that can talk about behind the scenes.
The person that can talk about what it took to get them in front of that camera
and the person that can talk about what it takes to get that person in front of the camera.
I love this combination of artists, you know, our management role.
I love these two brothers right here.
One is a relentless weed smoking advocate,
got 10 independent albums,
got albums with all type of motherfuckers.
I can't even name so many,
cause he's got so many, he got more, and it works.
Damn near was the first person to work with Gazelda.
You understand what I'm saying?
Well, I call him the East Coast,
I call him the New York Snoop Dogg.
You know what I'm saying?
In case you don't know, motherfuckers smoke Dinda! Understand saying rock on the East Coast. I call him a New York Snoop Dogg and you know saying
Manager extraordinaire the man is toply, you know damn near running cinematic
Doing what he got to do bring your artists from everywhere
Bringing them together and making them work and not only making them work and having them work but making them make some money god damn it and i think both drink champs alumni i think yes you you are briefly i was doing briefly in new
york with joe yeah and joe yeah and joe you've been on camera andrea you just been i think
the christmas special we've been oh yeah christmas on but i've on but I've been on the set a few hundred times
right yes yes yes so Jove we're going to start with you right okay being very nice watch by the
way oh I mean a lot you know what I mean like I was glad somebody pointed it out
but let's start with you right because I Because I remember seeing this blog, right.
And it said, this guy was saying
yo, before you want me to manage you
think about what you're asking me, right.
Correct.
And he's like, yo, because you asking me
to put yourself before me.
You're asking me to think about you
before I think about my kids.
You're asking me to think about you
before I think about my family
and things like that.
So, being sure when you ask somebody for management, and I thought that that was real, real, real honorable.
It's true.
But it's also a side that artists don't see.
Yeah.
So, this is a two-part question.
Well, let's start with the one part of it.
Is that an accurate statement?
100%.
Okay.
Because let's say I'm managing you, and I got plans to go out with my wife and my kids,
and you say, yo, ho, I got an emergency.
You got to come to the studio.
Guys, I can't go.
I got to go pull up on Nori.
I got to do it.
You know what I'm saying?
So being a manager, you're selfless.
You put your artist before yourself.
That's the role of the job.
Goddamn it.
Goddamn it.
Now, Smoke Dizzer, is that like,
how was it with you
When you
Did you start out
You had management
Or that was not something
Well shit
How I started out
I ain't originally
Having management
Me and Johnny
Came in together
Me and Johnny
Right
Cinematic
Cinematic
So you know
I helped start
Cinematic with Johnny
As far as
Make some noise for that
Which
Which tied into Being a Owner of the Smokers Club cinematic with Johnny. Make some noise for that guy.
Which tied into being an owner of the Smokers Club,
a tour that we started
at South by Southwest.
I mean...
Oh, so that...
Oh, okay, okay.
I thought that was a part of...
I knew you started it,
but I thought that was
South by Southwest.
So that's y'all guys.
No, that's us.
Y'all launched it
at the conference.
Yeah, we launched it
at South by no nine
We had Devin to do headlining Wow and under Devin was
Playing people with Smokers Club. All right, so the Smokers Club is basically our breakfast club of pot smokers
The tour started with me currency and big crit on the theme corner boy pink
And you know, gradually
it extended to Juicy J,
Joey Badass,
Abso, B-Real, Method Man,
Redman,
Burner, the list goes on.
But it was something we just started
as just our crew.
Niggas just always smoke together. We smoke
the same type of marijuana. You feel me I mean niggas just always smoke together. We smoked the same type of
Marijuana in front me. I know
You know, it was just something that we could start for us by us and it is just as a crew It just started as a crew just as an idea on stripes roof. Just you know fucking we just smokers club
Named the show at South by that and then it turned into a tour. It was the South by show the first 2009
That's pretty much how three caps like it was just a tour. What year was the South by show the first one? 2009. That's pretty much how Drinking Champs started.
Like, we was just a crew just sitting around drinking.
Drinking Champs.
It would be funny because he would be playing polka,
and I would be recording.
And if you really think about it,
polka and recording is kind of like the same time length.
It's both long as hell.
It's fast, it's fast.
So, what are y'all doing?
You got a coat for you?
All right, cool.
All right, cool. All right, cool.
All right, so, yeah, so that's crazy.
All right, moving on.
How did you and Currency even link up?
Well, me and Spitter, funny shit is,
I met Spitter when Spitter was smoking blunts.
He probably gonna hate this.
We're gonna spin into that.
We're gonna spin into that.
But, um, I met Spitter, I want to say, in 2000.
Wait, wait, because he be going at me for smoking blunts. No, no, we're going now. Because I'm a segue. I'm a stepping into that. But I met Spitter, I want to say, in 2000. Wait, wait, because he be going at me for small blocks.
No, no, we going now.
Because I'm going to segue into that.
Let's get some cups.
Let's get some cups.
I'm going to segue into that.
So I met Spitter in 2008 when he was on the freshman cover.
I met him through Mickey Fax.
Okay.
Mickey had a session, and he had Spitter there.
He had Corby Guns there.
He had a few people there, and we had cut a record prematurely.
And then maybe like a year and a half later, going to DD-172.
Shout out to Dame Dash.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that's one of my mentors.
I relink with Spitter, and this is the time he was living in New York.
Dame becoming less crazy nowadays.
He is.
Becoming less crazy.
He's crazy as same.
It's one of those. He's crazy as same Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's one of those.
He's crazy insane.
You know what I mean?
You know why?
Because when he was telling the truth, he was yelling so much.
Yeah.
It was too passionate.
You couldn't hear the message.
You just heard the messenger.
Yeah, but I didn't want to cut you off, so keep going.
Yeah, so that was around the time he was living in New York and shit.
And you know I always know where the weed is at or got it.
So that was our bond, smoking weed and eating weed brownies and just running around the city.
And a lot of niggas think New York don't got good weed.
Like a lot of people like, if you don't know.
That's only LA niggas that feel like that about us.
You must be acting like an LA nigga.
He be acting like that.
He be acting like he's a car and a soda.
Like he just like, yeah, motherfucker.
Nah, he is though.
Niggas is weed snobs.
So you know what I mean?
Snobs?
Weed snobs. What is that? So on tour all you know, we call this thing called fan weed, right?
Where sometimes the fans got good weed and then sometimes they got family which is whatever they think is good
But that might not fit our criteria
So that would be the weed that would be like, you know, give it to the homies or or whatever
But when I say weed snobsbs we the niggas that
We gonna turn we gonna turn our nose up if the weed ain't right we might send you back with the weed
A couple of times dudes through weed of me on stage and I do that you get
Worried about smoking whatever someone just throws on stage. Now, this before and after.
I mean, now.
This nigga can't give me nothing.
Yeah.
But, um, you know.
But it was like equivalent to like a girl throwing panties on stage.
Like, at first, let me just tell you something.
When I first, you gotta realize, when I first was going on stage and people was throwing weed at me,
this is, other than coming to Miami another going to Atlanta um strip clubs
it was kind of corny to us so throwing our culture that's your culture but I
didn't know that at the time so medium on stage a person throwing anything at
me I feel like a little decent so the first time I went through weed at me we
beat the shit out to do, we were in the crowd. We was like, yo, who threw?
I was more than 20 years old.
We beat the shit out of him.
You're comparing me to a stripper, though?
No, because it's the same thing.
You throw and stuff.
So, it wasn't until he said, look at it when I threw.
And then we looked, and it was like, oh, a quarter pound.
Oh, okay, this nigga's hot.
You know what I mean?
He was a dime bag.
Yeah, yeah, for instance.
You know what I mean? But it's something that is different.
But, okay, I'm sorry.
Because you got me reminiscing this shit.
Oh, no.
So, you know, that's just the definition of weed snob for us.
Snob.
It's a person who knows it.
We know it.
And if you come with something that's not it, with some funny names and some shit you want to name, that's not it.
We're going to send you back with it.
Yo, let me tell you a funny story, man.
Me and Styles P, right?
That's another weed snob. Yeah, okay. Listen, listen, right? Me and Styles P. We're going to send you back with it. Let me tell you a funny story, man. Me and Styles P, right? That's another weed snob.
Yeah, okay.
Listen, listen, right?
Me and Styles P.
We get, we get, I don't know.
Change the plug.
Change the plug.
Change the plug.
Salute, by the way.
Salute, by the way.
Salute, by the way.
Thank you, brothers, for pulling up.
Thank you, brother.
So let me tell you.
So we go to High Times Cannabis Cup
award right
so we the judges
right
me and Styles
everybody else
is not
looking like us
so
we go to the
High Times Mansion
and the High Times Mansion
was ill
because the higher you got
in the mansion
it was like a
7th floor mansion
in Amsterdam
you've been to Amsterdam
Amsterdam's like small
shit like that
but the higher you got the smaller the rooms got but the more potent It was like a seven-floor mansion in Amsterdam. You've been to Amsterdam. Amsterdam's like small, shit like that.
But the higher you got, the smaller the rooms got,
but the more potent this shit was.
So they had dabs back in like, this is a fact, like 15 years ago.
But anyway, this is probably like the only time I got mad at Styles P.
Styles P is sitting there looking at weed like Inspector Gadget.
He's sitting there. He's analyzing it. And, you know, I don't know why it made me mad, like inspect the gadget I'm trying to be invited back.
But that shit is crazy because at some point,
it goes from just wanting to get high to wanting a feeling.
It's at a certain point, I like a sour or OG feeling, right?
Here and there, I can do my flavors to the rants,
to the certs, to the cookies or whatever, but predominantly, if I could pick, I like to keep my lungs old school,
like the sour, the OGs.
Same, same.
So how is it with you?
Same, I mean, I'm an OG guy, you know what I mean?
And I still smoke sour from time to time,
if some good sour come around.
I haven't found no good sour for a long time.
Next time you come up top, I got you.
Okay, okay, I'll be there Saturday.
Yeah, cool, so. All top. I got you. Okay. I'll be that. Yeah
No, no, duh So, um, yeah, you know, I fuck with the flavors every now and then too
But for me, you know fucker runs I fuck with the fucker runs and I you know, I fuck with LB
Okay, I fuck with anybody Nick anybody over there
But um, you know when it comes to the funny names and shit outside of the runs you feel me?
It's like nigga we could just name some weed.
We can name this weed right now, get a bag, market it,
and it's whatever we say.
It's all marketing.
I got Super Thug OG, that's the first one,
but my second one is Jesus Toenails.
Jesus Toenails?
Jesus Toenails.
Jesus Toenails.
Just make sure the packaging is good,
and niggas is going to be requesting Jesus told them.
That's what it's about right now.
They just want the bag.
They want the bag.
You want me to bring it?
You want me to?
Look, I don't want to big up your Harlem niggas too much, but I'm going to be honest.
You know the first time I ever seen weed marketed?
Shite's Bubs?
It was a spot called Three Rise Men.
I can't tell if it was 143rd or 145th.
It's kind of drizzling.
Yeah, I thought it was just me.
I thought it was just my side.
I'm like, maybe I'm on the other side.
I'm worried the roof going to fall off.
I've never seen this.
I've never dealt with this.
But there was a spot called Three Wise Men.
This is where Biggie got Machine Gun Funk from.
Where he said Machine Gun Funk.
What it used to do was
everyone had 20 bags,
dime bags, whatever.
They used to just give you
a note, like a fortune cookie.
So, it used to say machine gun funk on it
or it would be like Buddha
sex. So, that was
like the first marketing. So, they
had the same exact shit that
what you call to have on 149 or what you call to have on 124 when you come off the Tri-Baron Bridge.
They had the same exact shit but the fact was they took time out and wrote me a note.
They wrote me a note and I kept coming back just for that. And then who was, pick up your Harlem niggas.
Branson. Yeah, Daniel. Come on now, bro. The very next person
who marketed weed
that everyone is copying off of now.
No disrespect to everyone
from Cookies to Runs to everybody.
All of them, I know everybody.
But if they really know the history,
that Branson bag,
you couldn't duplicate that.
Triangle bag.
Let me just tell you something.
Let me just tell you something.
It's a triangle bag? Triangle bag. Listen to me. You couldn't duplicate that. Triangle bag. Yeah, you remember, let me just tell you something. Let me just tell you something. It's a triangle bag?
Triangle bag.
Listen to me, you couldn't bootleg it.
You could not go to Chinatown,
however he did it, they could not,
and if you did it, it looked at Fugazi.
Like the way his bag was, this bag was so crazy,
this is crazy, I've never told this story before.
Capone, I'm sorry.
I'm ready for this. Capone was in jail.
I'm on parole, I literally can't see my man in jail.
I can if I wanted to.
Right.
So I'm lit, though.
I get lit, though.
I get lit.
I do my.
So I'm like, I'm glad I can't go.
I want to go anyway.
So what I could do is keep it shorty laced.
So I told her, oh, the one thing I didn't tell her was to take it out the bags.
So the next time the chick showed me, she was like, yo, that shit cut my whole shit up.
Because she must have took the shit and not took it.
In a triangle.
She left it in a triangle.
That shit cut all y'all mean up.
What kind of bag was this, bro?
I don't know.
This is something.
Let me just say this.
This is how I,
this is the first time
I kind of think
that I was being spiked.
Because it was one time
I woke up,
had no bud.
Wait, did they spike your weed?
I thought I was being spiked.
Yes.
Yes, because I woke up, I had no bud been spiked. Yes. Yes, because... I woke up.
I had no butt.
I had money on me.
Everybody on my street, like, yo, yo, you want some butt?
You got butt?
My butt?
I'm like, nah.
I waited for a cab.
I went all the way to 151st Street in St. Nick before I smoked.
Well, yeah.
Yeah, you was on another type of time, man.
No, Branson was lacing niggas, yeah. Yeah, you was on another type of time, man. No, Branson was
lacing niggas, bro.
I ain't gonna lie.
That wasn't...
And it was brown weed.
He had the tie stick.
It was always green.
He had the tie...
The tie?
Not chocolate tie.
It was called tie stick.
And then he had the green.
I never remember
what the green was.
I would suggest
it was Joe. But Branson's still out there. We're going to get him on the show. Br remember what the green was I was suggested was is Joe
But Branson still out there. We're gonna get him on a show. I got the juice bar right now
And he got his own champagne he still got tiger bone
Another person in that conversation
I want to say that you know on marketing at for me, is the person that put me on to real weed for real.
And that's Shice Bubz.
Purple City.
Because at first I thought you and Shice Bubz was a group that was under Dipset.
Uh-uh.
That's what I thought because that's the one I first seen you at.
Right, right, right.
See, now, Shice had Purple City, which was his own movement with Kasa, Ag, A Mafia.
I was just a young nigga that used to be around, right?
And I was a part of a group, Smoke and Numbers, at this time, just doing my one-two.
Is that with Shites, bro, or no?
I mean, this was with Johnny.
This is just me, you know, just trying to find my footing.
Wow.
And Johnny linked me with Shites.
And Shites took a liking to me.
So,
I was Purple City,
but it was like,
I was the little nigga.
I was the little nigga.
You was honorary Purple City.
I was the little nigga.
That's what it is,
Purple City, okay.
And Purple City to me is Dipset.
Right, right, right, right.
And Agalow was a part of that, right?
Agalow,
pick up the Agalow.
Made out the assassin before that.
This is before I knew Jimmy Kim.
You know what I mean?
So,
I was still a fan
See me I would think all your heart of niggas just know each other like by default
I think y'all just took at this point or you didn't know them at that time
I didn't know them at this time. I thought in used to be around Max, because Max used to be in the
sessions with Shice, and shooting the Knick Knack video and all that shit.
I was there for the Trap Nigga video, just sitting behind the scenes, seeing how shit
was moving, wanting to be an extra in the video just to be in it.
But that was part of my journey.
You got the vintage frames on.
What are those?
Those are fire.
These are John Paul Garcia.
And this is vintage, right?
Yeah, they're vintage.
Come on, look at my eye.
So, Obein,
you working on your own.
All right, immediately.
All right, you know what?
I'll wait for that for the shot,
but you, all right.
So how do you go from,
we're going to do some shots, right? Mr. Lee? Mr. Lee's around. Oh, he's outside. Well, he's doing a little bumble. So
So, how do you even I even look I got a bunch of management questions
Yeah, we actually got a this Thursday. We supposed to have Eric Nix and all the e-mix
James Cruz come up and kick some violators. That's dope now. Um
One thing that I noticed right? I didn't know how much a headache artist work and I
technically can't get mad at any artist because there's not one thing that they
done that I have not done so So I technically got to shut the fuck up.
But how is that keeping patience?
How is that?
Okay, go ahead.
I mean, it's like anything you do,
you got to know what you're signing up for.
And every artist is different.
The way I am with Dizzo is not the way I am with Kel,
is not the way I am with Styles.
Every artist is different.
Management is not like a broad thing.
It's a la carte.
So the things you may need from me, he might not need.
I might have to call you every morning at 7 to wake you up,
to go over business.
You know what I'm saying?
So you just got to know your personnel.
It's like having children almost.
You know what Noah likes.
You know what I'm saying?
But do you keep your clients up to a minimum?
Because you can't spread yourself too thin.
See, now I'm part of a management company i'm the president of cinematic management so i have other managers under me so it's like delegation i learned delegation so all
right you go with this artist but i'm gonna still call and check and make sure everything is running
smooth so is it about knowing the staff too because what if you put somebody with what
does it that that don't smoke and like... It's knowing
your personnel. I know not to send
nobody else with DZA. DZA or Rapper, nobody
except for me.
If it's somebody who don't smoke, it's not
going to work well. You know what I'm saying? So if it's somebody
with DZA, I'll try to go or he'll
handle it on his own. You know what I'm saying?
Styles, somebody like
don't book him a hotel that don't got a balcony
because he got a smoke
All right, make sure they got vegan options for you know saying so you gotta know your personnel
Like one time I walked in a room
This is like the no smoking policy just started everyone in Def Jam is like yo don't smoke in your fucking rooms
Put it on so everybody should be all on point. And then DMX sees me downstairs,
he's like, yo, boy, what's up?
What you doing?
Check it out at my hotel.
I'm like, all right, come on.
You go upstairs.
As soon as DMX walk into his room,
he lights a cigarette.
I'm like, damn, nigga,
I'm not 10 times flattener, bro.
I cannot do that.
I get that, but...
So now...
So now...
Now, what is the requirements, right?
If you... Is there a difference from working with a new artist So now, what is the requirements, right?
Is there a difference from working with a new artist than working with an elder statesman?
Yeah, 100%. Because the elder statesman has been through it before.
He knows who he wants.
He's not getting too super excited about new shit.
You know what to bring to him.
He has a certain standard.
With a new artist, you kind of got to hold his hand and walk him through everything.
You try to be at everything.
Every first award show, every plaque ceremony.
An older guy, he knows what he likes.
He knows what to do.
And most of all, he wants shit to be routine.
Who's the most improved artist you ever met?
Who's the artist that you worked with and you was like, I'll never work with again?
And then you wind up saying, you know what?
He is I. I don't know there's got to be pros and cons to the older artists and the young artists
like the older artists could be more stubborn than the young artists they're more stuck in their ways
so it's like you're trying to change somebody's behavior that they've been used to first class
flights and the remote and the rich calls him for 20 years. And you were like, yo, nah, not this budget.
Yeah, because if you manage an artist now that's from the era in the 90s that had the
budgets and had the big labels.
They don't understand that.
That mentality is hard to crack.
They'd be like, nah, that's what I want.
It's very tough to work with people who their heyday was behind them.
Right.
Sometimes, like, we've got to pick and choose because sometimes people will be like.
I brought the plastic cup, brother. was behind them. Right. Sometimes, like, we've got to pick and choose because sometimes people will be like, they're in a mindset of,
this is how it should be,
not this is how it is,
you know what I'm saying?
Right, right.
I know a lot of cops,
and they get asked all the time,
have you ever had
to shoot your gun?
Sometimes the answer is yes,
but there's a company
dedicated to a future
where the answer will always be no.
Across the country, cops called this taser the revolution.
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Cops believed everything that taser told them.
From Lava for Good and the team that brought you Bone Valley comes a story about what happened when a multibbillion dollar company dedicated itself to one visionary mission.

Add free at Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts. The American West with Dan Flores is the latest show from the Meat Eater Podcast Network,
hosted by me, writer and historian Dan Flores, and brought to you by Velvet Buck.
This podcast looks at a West available nowhere else.
Each episode, I'll be diving into some of the lesser-known histories of the West.
I'll then be joined in conversation by guests
such as Western historian Dr. Randall Williams and best-selling author and MeatEater founder
Stephen Rinella. I'll correct my kids now and then where they'll say when cave people were here,
and I'll say it seems like the Ice Age people that were here didn't have a real affinity for caves.
So join me starting Tuesday, May 6th, where we'll delve into stories
of the West and come to understand how it helps inform the ways in which we experience the region
today. Listen to the American West with Dan Flores on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts. And it's going to take us to heal us. It's Mental Health Awareness Month. And on a
recent episode of Just Heal with Dr. J, the incomparable Taraji P. Henson stopped by to
discuss how she's discovered peace on her journey. So what I'm hearing you saying is healing is a
part of us also reconnecting to our childhood in some sort. You said I look how youthful I look
because I never let that little girl inside of me die.
I go outside and run outside with the dogs.
I still play like a kid.
I laugh, you know, I love jokes.
I love funny.
I love laughing.
I laugh at myself.
I don't take myself too seriously.
That's the stuff that keeps you young
and stops you from being so hard.

We're going to take you straight to your face.
How much we appreciate you.
How much we appreciate you, brother. Let's take a salute.
Thank you.

Okay. Okay. You got something? You want some of that?
No, no, no. I'm talking about, you got a question because I need to calm down a little bit.
You got a kick-kick-kick-kick?
Hit that bloke.
Hold up, Hovain.
Yes, sir.
We got to take it back to when we first met.
EFN, Garcia, Studio Miami.
I remember.
It wasn't the hurricane time, was it?
It was.
It was like a storm.
I remember Garcia rode a motorcycle.
He couldn't leave because it was a crazy storm. to a super over there that's what they have found
my son is I call my son at 3 o'clock don't my interest
hey you call me an hour and 40 minutes later yeah you called me you in the next
room bro I don't need is toilet paper. God damn.
Jeez Louise, Papa Cheese.
I'm sorry.
Who was it that you was with?
Troy Ab.
It was Troy Ab.
Yo, this is how he's saying that.
He puts himself out.
Yo, there's a hurricane coming.
And they was in the studio with us trying to do mixtape shit.
Yeah, I remember.
That was one of the first early, early trips to Miami.
Yeah.
Wow.
Wow, that's dope. All right. So it's been brought up.
We didn't,
um,
uh,
when I,
when I do this,
these interviews,
I always,
you know,
um,
go to Twitter and I asked her,
you got something for smoke.
There's a,
you got something for,
uh,
bottle.
Cause bottle has to come through later.
Shut up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. He's supposed to come through later around 5.30, 5.50.
And then obviously I said, yo, any questions for Hovain?
Now, obviously, people never really heard your side.
They never will.
They don't.
All they hear is, you know, whatever, whatever.
I was going for a lack of a better term for people that don't know.
We're talking about, because when we first met you, you came in the game with Troy.
So,
if you could,
like,
you know,
just elaborate as much as you feel comfortable
about what happened
with that situation.
We worked super hard.
We got together.
We did all type of shit
independently.
We made a bunch of money
from the ground.
From the ground.
It was really just us two,
maybe two,
three people at a time.
We got a lot of endorsements.
We made a name for ourselves
and we parted ways.
Right.
He's doing what he's doing
and I'm doing what I'm doing.
Right.
So, obviously, you know,
for the world,
the people know,
you know, the situation.
And, um,
and so,
was that the last straw?
Was it because, did he feel like he was obligated to something or I'm not sure?
I couldn't even tell you how you felt because we ain't never speak about that.
Right.
And y'all just didn't speak after the situation at all?
God bless.
Is there something you want to work out or just leave it up to God?
I'll leave it up to God.
You know what I'm saying? Is there something you want to work out or just leave it up to God? I leave it up to God. Because I heard him say he made mistakes in certain things.
We all make mistakes.
I'm not saying nobody's perfect.
I'm pretty sure.
Did you think he was genuine and sincere?
I thought he was genuine and sincere when he said that.
I don't know.
I wasn't here.
About you.
When he spoke about you, I felt like he was genuine and sincere.
Yeah, he was.
When it came to you, I'm not saying he was
genuine and sincere in other situations I'm not saying that but I'm saying when I when he came
here and I asked about the whole veins situation I felt like he was genuine and sincere I felt like
I felt like I felt like you know for me you know cutting the cookie like dry right I felt like
he needed someone to actually blame not to say it like like that, but he needed, like, I don't want to say a scapegoat because, you know, this was a very, very serious situation.
So that's why I felt like, you understand what I'm trying to say?
I get what you're saying.
I just can't speak for him.
I don't know how he felt.
You know what I'm saying?
Right.
So if that, you don't know how he felt over, you know what I'm saying? Right. So, if that,
you don't have to elaborate on that,
but if that,
explain to people
that that is going
to get into this game,
that is going to get
into management,
and it's going to form
a certain friendship
with certain people,
and then we'll have
to deal with this.
I mean...
Explain to how that feels.
How I always say it to people,
like, companies break up
every day.
Partners go different ways
in business all the time.
I think it's only sensationalized
because it's rap,
because it's young black men.
People start a business together,
they make money together,
and never speak again.
That happens all the time.
You know what I'm saying?
Down to Apple, Windows,
the people that started McDonald's.
Shit happens.
That's business, really.
You know what I'm saying?
That's a good way to say it.
This is the music business.
But the way you said that,
a manager puts the artist
in front of even a family.
It's 444 right now.
444.
Let's make some noise
for it being 444.
Because I've managed artists as well,
and it's difficult, man,
when you put so much...
You know, I will probably...
I know what you're saying,
and you're being politically correct, and let's take him out there and be crazy, right? Just... I know what you're saying and you're being politically correct.
Let's take him out there and get crazy, right?
I would like you to explain for people that's going to get it.
Being a manager is something very personal, but it's not personal.
You got to always remember at the end of the day, we had a friendship before music, so it wasn't just business.
But as far as other artists that we just generalizing,
it's just been happening in music since the fucking
start of music. But does that make you bitter?
No, it doesn't make you bitter.
If you don't learn from experiences
that... Because they took my publishing, I never
took nobody else's publishing.
You learn from experiences, so you know
now when you have an artist, you would never take his publishing.
You know what I'm saying? But it's the friendship
managers, because most hip-hop artists are managed by the friends. Yeah
So that's the difference between other genres
You know now and most of the most but let me cut you off
But most of the friends when that's when when they break most of the friends
That the managers the manager that's the friend once they break from from the artist
they go right back to selling licks i mean it's not all of them i don't know
and i say oh i said i just think you're not going to know the manager story because most of them
are behind the scenes you wouldn't even know yeah i think i think the fact that people know me is
a testament to my work i'm saying people know me because I really get busy and I do a great job.
And I think some of my reputation speaks for itself.
It forces sometimes managers to become kind of like artists so that doesn't happen to them.
So people, they don't just fall behind the scenes.
But that's what I'm saying.
Like, this is nothing new.
This has been happening in the 60s.
James Brown fell out with his first manager.
You don't hear about the guy.
But was it
rough because because because let me let me just be clear and i just want to um because i just want
to just get to it right um when we first seen you in the game we only seen you with troy it was y'all
was like biggie and puffy y'all was like dame and jade you know what i'm saying so i imagine and
troy was troy was up for lack of a. Like, he was up. And then this thing happens.
You guys break away.
He goes, does his thing.
You go do his thing.
In those periods of time when you build it, we build it, was it rough?
Because, I mean, some people has got to be looking at you like, if you're not with Troy, then why should I fuck with you?
Because this is the artist I was fucking with you for them to get.
That's a blessing.
That's the best thing in the world.
Whenever something happens, like, say, like, you fall ill, God forbid, or you lose your job, the best thing that ever happens to get. That's a blessing. That's the best thing in the world. Whenever something happens, like say like you fall ill,
God forbid,
or you lose your job,
the best thing that ever happens to you
is knowing where you stand with people.
You know what I'm saying?
So people that wasn't fucking with me
or they thought I was over,
that's beautiful.
I know I have faith in myself
and faith in my ability
and faith in God.
It's a testament to your work ethic
that people fuck with you
regardless of that.
So if you don't fuck with me,
don't worry.
Was it rough though?
That wasn't rough.
I got loved ones. I have like real friends and family. Was it rough, though? That wasn't rough. Okay.
I got loved ones.
I have, like, real friends and family.
Like, niggas like you who was calling me.
I called you.
I didn't want to take the props.
I didn't want to take the props.
Like, I have real friends.
I have a real family.
I have a wife.
I have kids.
I have a mother.
I got real friends.
Like, you know,
Dizzer and Shikes
and people that,
you know what I'm saying,
that was there for me.
It wasn't rough.
It was an adjustment.
It was like,
oh, alright, this is different.
I gotta figure this out, but I didn't have any, uh, I didn't have
any, uh,
doubts in myself. I never
thought, I never thought I would never be like that.
Brooklyn, all the niggas out here is coming on.
I respect y'all. I see y'all pulling up.
Get the first one
going.
Yeah, yeah.
No problem.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, I didn't doubt my ability.
I didn't think I wouldn't be ever lit or where I am right now.
No.
No, I ain't going to lie.
To tell you the truth, I felt like it was rough for both of y'all at one point.
Because we saw y'all as that, you know, as that Biggie, uffy that Dame Jay and I think everyone kind of wanted
y'all to reach that potential and didn't break up because I mean it's just real
so when the I was on the way and it is shortcutted it so I felt like everyone
had their opinion from people from his side of the industry to people from your side
of the industry even the industry period do you feel like i'm a little bit accurate in that um
i can't even say bro like right i'm not i'm not he's past it man that's what it was like
it's like i don't i don't i don't even remember the emotions and feelings i felt
five years ago you can't remember that. You know what I'm saying?
I know we were working together.
You can't never take that away from me. He's a hard-ass worker.
I'm a hard-ass worker.
We did some great shit.
We made some money.
We made some history.
It's like, you know,
nothing could change that.
That's like Jay and Dame.
They work out.
Jay went on to do great things.
Dame went on to do great things.
But you can't erase the history they have.
No, you can't.
You can't erase the history.
And you know what? I just want y'all to know man eventually if you least y'all get on talk in terms or you know whatever terms I don't know like I
would I would I like that man because you know I remember y'all together as
being great and you know hopefully maybe later on in life you know I'm sure many
times you were poor fellow oh well I would say trash. You don't relate to trash.
I don't have a phone that fell out like that.
Yeah, no me a phone never fell out like that.
So I would say me a trash but I got love for trash.
And I really really like it was his birthday the other day.
I reached out to him.
I didn't have to like I sat back.
I seen everyone else saying happy birthday.
I could have been like fuck that.
Let me act like I'm too big to see niggas bigger than my. I've seen everyone else saying happy birthday. I could have been like fuck that.
Let me act like I'm too big to see niggas big in a month. Nah, nigga no, I hit him.
Yo, y'all happy birthday, bro. He's like what? He's like yo, that's big coming from you. I'm like why? Like I hate niggas to say you if you okay. You good. Like you know what I'm saying?
Like but you know, so big up trash. So like I said like, you know, I've been through crazy shit.
You've been through crazy shit. Eventually if you come on speaking terms. That's a motherfucking plus in life. Let's make some noise, but goddamn
That's been on my chest is on smoke business chest. Do you have the hokumania? Oh?
Is that the whole coach it is not the great you know I I like to think this is the hope before we found out that
He used the word nigga
Prince free nigga right my cool looks I was a hokamaniac
Did it hurt me it was sickening cuz I know what to do I'm like damn
What was it exactly that they cut him saying I mean a, he invaded his privacy, but he was totally insane.
He wanted to date no nigga.
That's what he said.
Oh, at least he let it be.
No, but she was dating a nigga.
She was dating a nigga.
She was dating.
Right.
I gotta stop saying nigga.
Right.
He was like, man, you know, if it was a six foot eight nigga,
then all right.
That's my people, too.
That's my people.
He said that.
He said that.
I don't remember that part.
He said that.
Maybe I skipped over that part.
Because I was a hooker maniac.
I was just like, he's racist, let me leave it alone.
But did you see when he got the sex case?
Yeah, that shit with Gawker with his man and all.
I mean, Hogan been a part of a lot of scandals.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
And Ric Flair hasn't been.
You fucking Ric Flair?
That's my guy.
I met Ric Flair.
I want to say.
Yo, Ric Flair.
He was a four horseman?
Four horseman. I was a horseman. I met Flair, I want to say, a year andlair's there. He was a four horseman? Four horseman. I was a horseman.
I met Flair, I wanna say a year and a half ago.
Junkyard Dog?
Junkyard Dog.
How about Roddy Roddy Piper, man?
Roddy Roddy Piper, man.
That was the one that I was focused on.
Yo, listen, Roddy Roddy Piper
might have been the first Drink Champs.
He was.
I was watching it the other day.
I was like, he's the first person
to interview people in his own game.
I said, holy shit, Drink Champs might have been
on Roddy Roddy Piper.
We just didn't have a dress. We didn't have a dress. This is the Pipers. What was it called? Pipers Pit. I said, holy shit drink test might have been a variety party
Who's the goal? I was pipers pipers pipers pipers fit the first thing Ric Flair said when he seen me He looked at my chain. He was like That's fly. I ain't know what the ball is. Yeah. Nature boy, baby. The nature boy.
The nature boy.
Thanks, man.
Do you think that's crazy?
Because us coming from the hood, right?
We growing up, Paul.
And we have this liking to a life that we know is Santa Claus.
Right.
Like, we know this is fantasy.
But still, we watch it.
We watch Superfly Jimmy Snooker.
We watch Sting. We watch Paul on door come on bro see the thing is my mom's and my well my
mother and father I'm gonna say they introduced me to wrestling and they
told me what it was from the beginning so they said it's a fake yeah I'm loose
Santa Claus wasn't real at three years old and for me so anything it didn't
take my joy of Christmas I don't think my mom still ain't tell me Santa Claus wasn't real at three years old. You feel me? It didn't take my joy of Christmas.
I don't think my mom still ain't tell me
Santa Claus ain't real.
My mom's just like,
no, there's no Santa Claus. This is me and your father.
We work hard for this shit.
I be trying to say that every year.
So with the Santa Claus speech
was the wrestling speech.
Like, yo, son, you know, this is not real.
It's entertainment.
And, you know, for me watching it and just learning how this shit works
and just, you know, having friends in the business now
and just being a smart, is what they call it,
just knowing the behind-the-scenes shit,
I know what it's hitting for.
However, they real athletes and they get injured from it.
Oh, no, it's hella real in that sense. That shit that shit is real like you can't just
power drive a nigga and say oh no this is fake
nigga might not get up nigga will die
you know what I mean so
what's going on man you got hand sanitizer So, um, so yeah, so I learned about smoking, put your mask on it.
Why are you smoking?
All right, please be careful.
We just try to be careful.
That's all.
It's all love.
It's all love.
Right.
So, so yeah, I understand.
I learned about Santa Claus being fictional and wrestling being fictional.
Or at least you know the storytelling purpose of it.
Same way how no disrespect I watch Love & Hip Hop or anybody else will watch Love & Hip Hop
and you just got to just know what you want.
You know what it's hitting for.
That's all.
I'm not, you know, whatever.
Maybe it's real.
Maybe it's not.
I don't know what's going on on TV.
It's not.
It's smoke.
There's a full level of Love & Hip that's not for no money in the world
No, no, no TV
Both TVs, so I'm not going on TV to go beef and
Get mad over
Enough what would love a hip hop? I'd I'd never. And I respect everybody on there.
I mean, no disrespect.
I was thinking about it a couple of times.
Nah, I'm good.
And then Maris Bootcamp.
And then I see the homie.
They can have it all.
Maybe not.
Maybe not.
They can have it better than me.
I respect it.
Or love.
If you like it, I love it.
I'm getting off subject a little bit.
I work for myself basically like the past 10 years.
It's not really that I the oldest cracked up to be
Like working for yourself like I want to have a job where I could report and come in
Until you have a job where you can report and come in and you ain't gonna like that shit
Exactly
I mean I had that experience though where I was like man fuck this I quit
I'm saying
It's like some artists rather be a major some others rather be independent
Well Norrie definitely wants to be on the major.
I definitely want to be on the major.
Listen, I'm going to be honest.
You don't want to colorate it yourself.
Yo, independent.
You got 10 independent albums.
I'm going to get to that.
Wait a second.
I'm going to be honest.
Absolutely.
If you got a guy who did three albums, right, major,
and a guy who did three albums independent
same grind
same hustle
same type of hit records
I guarantee you the guy
that's independent
might got a little bit more bread
but he got way more gray hairs
props
I ain't get one gray yet
it's coming brother
I'm getting offended I'm getting offended.
I'm getting offended right now.
He's a management grade.
He's a management grade.
His grade started coming in last year.
I don't know.
That's the point I'm trying to make is
you guys can make the same amount of money.
It's just
independent.
It's a run. But the independent leaves a longer legacy yes today families though in ownership okay and I'm not
working for anybody major I want to say this I want to say this because here's the seesaw. Right.
On one hand, you're absolutely correct.
Because you're leaving a legacy to your family as far as riches, as far as... Ownership.
Ownership.
Ownership.
But that record that a major put 500 grand in and gave you 100 million in the audience audience that record will never die neither right that's
true it's not ownership it's just like the lady in the projects she's lived there for 200 years
she's paying rent but ask that lady do she own it she say this is mine baby right and she knows
you don't own it she knows he paid the city $8 a month
She's the one on the major I'm agreeing with that. But what I'm trying to say is, it's kind of like... And remember, times are different.
To be in a major in the 90s, to be in a major... I'm talking about being on a major and catching that major.
Wait.
But everybody don't catch and hit the sign on major.
Only 1% do.
I ain't talking about the ones that don't.
Not even 1%.
I'm talking about the ones that do.
I'm talking about the ones that do.
0.001.2%.
Listen, bro. I'm talking about the ones that do. 0.001.2%. Listen, bro.
I'm talking about the ones that do.
For one hit, I've done this.
You can tour for three years.
If you smart.
Now, your shit is a different era.
I'm telling you.
It's a different era.
I can't debate that part.
That's the reality, though.
I can't debate that part.
Different budgets, different era.
But I've done a half a hit a year and a half tour.
I've done that.
Grimey wasn't a full-fledged half a hit. A whole hit. But I've done a half a hit a year and a half tour. I've done that. Grimey wasn't a full-fledged half a hit, a whole hit.
But I've done a whole.
It was almost there.
You did a half a hit?
Mm-hmm.
You got it.
But now, I'm not saying independent is not.
Now, independent is that.
It's not for everybody, man.
You can't miss... Like, yo, if I'm major,
I go to Minneapolis,
and I got to go to Indianapolis the next day,
and I miss Minneapolis morning show,
I can come back to Minneapolis.
It's cool.
You're my bad.
I don't want to go do the morning show.
I'm going to do an afternoon meet and greet.
You mix it one time in independent the niggas like fuck here
Because they know they got that power over you. It depends what kind of independent artists you are though
Okay, because you know the e1 obviously. Um
Not directly like I did business with with Chuck Wilson
I have a shout out to Chuck Wilson just because I learned.
That's not Baby Grant.
That's Baby Grant.
Yeah, Baby Grant.
Same, you know, subsidy.
I learned the business from, I won't say doing bad business as if he, somebody did anything that I wasn't aware of, right?
But you learn certain things when you you independent that you might not learn
Major right so you learn from experience
So, you know in the hood we got this on this phrase is cheat the niggas how you teach the nigga, right?
So it gets that cheat the niggas how you teach the nigga, right?
So she did nigga cheat the niggas how you teach the niggas heat the nigga how you teach and I'm not even saying that
So we won't change the cheat the yalla. She's the yalla. I teach how you teach the niggas cheat the nigga how you teach the niggas and i'm not even saying that so we're going to change the cheat the yalla cheat the yalla
so i'm not insinuated i got cheated because i had a lawyer and and when you got a family and you
independent so to speak you know if you're not busting the road doing tours and getting features
of doing what you're doing you got to figure it it out you in the street you feel me and all
When I'm advances in different languages come
Even if your lawyer is saying to you perpetuity, which is the word
I feel like every independent audit artist should know and be afraid of you gotta know that you gotta know that word because that word
You say You gotta know that word because that word you say
Perpetuity is forever and if you see that word you run from that word if an independent artist. I might be giving away too much game, but I don't care.
Because I'm a pro artist and I'm pro artist.
So how did you learn this word?
Somebody came to you and said perpetuity?
So I learned this word from having certain assets
in perpetuity, and then when I go back
and they explain this word perpetuity to me,
I'm like, well what can I do?
And it's like, you can't do nothing.
Nothing.
You know, so moving forward,
because that's the learning curve
and that's not to disrespect anybody.
No, but artists need to know.
Artists need to know to run from that word.
And I'm not saying that's,
I don't know what kind of business he's doing now
or what's what,
and I'm not slandering him
because I'm sure he's going to see this.
It's all love.
I'm getting money.
Who are we talking about?
We're talking about Chuck.
We're talking about the business.
Chuck is a foul nigga.
He's not even a foul nigga.
He do business.
He's not a foul nigga at all.
He's not a foul nigga.
He's actually a good nigga.
You know what I mean?
But you know, he does business.
You get what you negotiate.
It's not your fault.
You get what you negotiate at the end of the day.
You ain't got to do that.
You know what you ain't got to do.
I'm going to throw in perpetuity.
Maybe they won't see that.
Or maybe they won't care.
Or yeah, maybe the money's worth perpetuity.
Right, that's right.
Throw in continuity while you're at it.
Continuity, right.
But you know, moving forward, I own everything else
of my masters.
Your masters for the last 10 years, right?
I fully own my masters.
Last 10 years.
Make some noise for that, girl.
So where you know, if it's time for me to just pass my shit
down to one of my kids a piece like here
This is for you. This is for you. This is for you. I can do that and I feel like stepping away and just
Consulting and doing what the fuck I feel like doing but what made you like was it was it that majors turned you away?
Oh, what I tried to shuck in job
You know, I mean I went I went not sad with L.A. Reid. Shout out to L.A. Reid.
Shout out to Aaron Reid.
Aaron Reid?
Aaron.
His son?
Yeah, that's my homie.
And he got me in there and I did the whole, you know,
performing in front of staff, Sylvia.
Did the Bobby Shmurda shit?
It's not one of my favorite moments.
Did you jump on the table like Bobby Shmurda?
No, I didn't jump on the table. You can't do that. To have to do that is not one of my favorite moments. Nah, I didn't jump on the table.
Like to have to do that
is not one of your favorite moments?
Nah, because you know,
looking back at it,
I'm happy that it didn't happen
because it might have put
an expiration date on my shit.
So I felt like my ceiling,
you can't tell me what my ceiling is
because you don't know what my ceiling is because I'm still going.
You can't see my ceiling.
And you built a brand that's going.
Like Freddie Gibbs had the same attitude.
You see, he just linked up with Atlantic.
I think you deserve that experience.
I mean, just to fuck off somebody else's money.
I mean, but I guarantee you.
I guarantee you.
No, no, no.
I'm going to be honest with you.
No, no, no.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm sorry because I'm married. This is a fucked up analogy. No, be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm going to be honest with you. Sorry, sorry. Get your ass cut off. So, if you have a paper pussy,
it feels so much better
to tell them to leave
when the homie paid for it.
So you're like, all right, cool,
fuck it, damn, I'm fucked up.
The homie paid though.
And that's what the major is.
That's what the major is.
It's like, yo, you know what?
I'm still a bus fan.
I'm still a bus fan. But guess what? The homie paid more than y'all.
You know what I'm saying? That's what the major...
See, see, I don't mind either.
But paying for pussy, paying for pussy is like, you know, movies or dinner or...
And it's not in the frugal or I won't do away.
But I'm just saying.
Okay.
That's the analogy that I'm taking it in.
Because I don't play in that ball... I don't play in the ballpark.
I just got to say that. Sorry, the analogy that I'm taking it in. Because I don't play in that ball. I don't play in the ballpark.
I just got to say that.
Sorry, but based on what he said about Freddie Gibbs,
and I don't know if Freddie Gibbs is business, but...
Freddie gives you that check, y'all.
It's different when you independent
and then go get distributed through a major.
That's a whole different ballgame.
No, I don't think he got distributed.
I think this album is on Atlanta.
It's different.
You can retain rights. You can do all kinds of shit. When you go to a major, it's a different contract is one Atlanta. I think it's different. You can retain rights.
You can do all kinds of shit.
And you go to a major,
it's a different contract they're offering you.
Yeah, it's a different...
You got leverage now.
That's what I'm saying.
It's a different conversation.
That's what I'm talking about.
Because his partnership is not doing it.
It's a partnership.
It's a total inverting.
And I learned that from speaking to Nip.
God bless him.
It's his birthday today.
God bless.
Everybody, let's take a moment of silence
for Nipsey Hussle Brothers.
Rest in peace, Nip.
Make some noise.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, that was one of my good friends.
You know, when we signed the cinematic first.
Johnny.
Johnny.
Johnny Fountain.
Johnny Fountain. I feel like I want to see. LaBelle's and all I want to say it was through Feli Felt
No Steve's yes
It shapes was the label right and I feel like um when we were working with Sean Kingston shout out to Sean Kingston
I heard you writing rhymes for Sean Kingston and shit like that
Yeah, you know beautiful on the first album.
You wrote rhymes or singing?
You write singing shit?
I do.
My inside joke is I went platinum before I went platinum.
That's that shit, nigga. Another shot.
Another shot. Let's all get your life together, man. Another shot. Another shot. It's a league.
Get your life together, man.
Let's leave my nigga Slick with no mask.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on.
Let's leave some mask on. Let's leave some mask on. Let's leave some mask on. Let's leave some mask on. Let's leave some mask on. Shout out to Kameem, shout out to Maun Boops. He flyin'! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he flyin'! So you know, around the time we was working with him,
he was, you know, Beautiful Girls was making
the six rounds. Beautiful girls!
All right.
And Felly was helping break a lot of Shawn's records.
And I feel like Felly put Nipsey on Shipes' radar.
And I remember the first time we heard,
got the name of the record, but it was,
I don't give a fuck.
Rhyme with my window,
with my beat turned up.
AC burning in the end.
And I was like,
oh, shit.
This nigga is serious.
And you know,
Shypes is a person that,
if he fuck with you,
wherever you come from,
he gone.
He flying out.
He wanna go see how you living.
And go see what's going on. Shikes was with you when you met him?
Ah, me and Shikes was broke together.
Oh, yeah.
So great.
We ate sandwiches. You know what I mean?
Like, we made it look good.
What kind of sandwiches? Let me just...
Turkey and cheese.
Okay.
You know what I mean?
Extra mayonnaise or less mayonnaise?
Less mayonnaise because he was a nigga who always cared about his diet.
Oh, yeah.
Even though he would get faggot skinny.
I like extra mayonnaise.
We from the hood, so it would be a little different.
But Shikes from Upper West Side, so, you know, he related get faggot skinny. Like extra mayonnaise. We from the hood, so it would be a little different. But Shype's from Upper West Side.
So, you know, he related to what was going on.
So, you know, anytime he liked the artists, he would fly out to where they was at.
Y'all had artists from everywhere.
Like, that was dope about cinematic.
Everybody.
From Mississippi, you know what I mean?
But we flew out to L.A. to South Central.
And we linked with Big U and Steve and Nelly.
That's dope.
And you was going as management or you was going out as management or you was going as a...
I was just going with my homie
because every time, you know,
he made a move,
I was the wingman.
You're a part of it.
You know what I mean?
Like, we didn't...
You got your shots?
Yeah.
Got your shots together.
Got your shots together.
Got that.
Yeah!
Ay-yay-yay.
But yeah, moving forward, Nick was the person that never really put me on
a and you said this he told you something the verbiage okay oh
partnership oh I thought you said okay nice to not my purpose by the way we
learned a new word folks perpetuity I mean you. But Nip was the one that really schooled me on doing it yourself.
And the verbiage, if you do want to upstream your shit to a major,
it's not you being signed to a major, it's you partnering with the major.
So it's a partnership.
It's all with verbiage.
And it's how they look at you too.
That's all Sid Hogue told us back in the they look at you too so i said hove told us back
in the day that too you know i mean even speaking of dame you know i mean dame will always tell me
you'll cut the middleman and i mean like this is you know dame was always preaching he was always
even though he was you know the label he was still pro artist too because he wants every artist that
come up under him to be elite you know i mean I mean? Whoever that is. I call him Professor X,
because that's his whole, you know, spiel.
But Nick put me on to the partnership,
and you know, doing the Proud to Pay campaign.
Like, I wish in hindsight I would have listened earlier.
He was telling me this because I would have got to
where I wanted to get to sooner.
You know what I mean? But, um...
You ever took ecstasy?
Matt Brand!
We learned a new word.
You ever took ecstasy?
Nah, nigga.
Bali, nothing? MDMA?
Mushrooms, nothing?
The most extreme shit I probably did was drink lean at one point in life,
and that wasn't no good.
Yeah.
He's excited control
It's like this
You ever seen a bionic man. That's when you drink link. Yeah, that's just stupid. It's like that's how you feel
That's how you see that's how you must that's how you get a slow motion or sleep with your cousin
I think man, I'm gonna get here my bad. No, I'm not gonna bionic. I hang out with P rock. So, okay
Oh, yeah, that's right. Let's pick up the Pete Rock.
By the way, if you're not following Pete Rock on Instagram,
you should smack yourself in the face.
He's hilarious on Instagram.
No, no, he throws shit up there.
He lets you really think about what it is. This nigga Pete, I don't know when he goes to sleep or how he wakes up.
And he's like vegan, not vegan.
But I know at 5 a.m., if me and P-Rock, it's not seeing eye to eye,
I'm going to get a thread of a fucking text message at 6 a.m.
And I'm like, how are you up?
I just seen you tweeting.
I mean, I just seen you on the gram.
Maybe at midnight, my nigga.
It's 5 a.m.
But Pete is the most fucking entertaining person on the gram for me because he's going
to go rip shit from every other page, and that's the news for him.
Yeah, it makes it crazy.
But how do y'all connect?
How do y'all two connect?
I used to carry Pete crates to get in the club.
See that's old school hip hop shit.
I paid my dues.
Because you don't got records of real hip hop shit.
That's real shit.
Borg used to carry my crates.
He used to carry my crates.
What year? What year was this? This gotta be like 99. I'm 36, so I'm still fairly a young nigga. You don't got a record of real hip-hop shit. That's real shit. Borgia's the carry my crates. He's the carry my crates.
What year was this?
It's got to be like 99.
I'm 36, so I'm still fairly a young nigga.
You feel me?
So coming up, like,
Shipes always found his way to managing
these legendary artists.
And when did you and Shipes,
what year did y'all connect?
I connected with Shipes when I was 17.
So, okay, we don't even need the year.
Right, this is when I was battle rapping, but anyway, um...
Mm.
The fuck? Oh yeah, I carried the snake to Pete's.
We'll get to that.
Okay.
But, um...
You ain't battle luck to them niggas, though, man.
This is before it got commercial.
I mean, Pop was always out, Moog was always...
This is T-Rex era.
T-Rex was the first nigga that i knew that was rapping for
real you know i mean because we all we all from the same block i mean rex move you know i mean so
that was the first nigga that he was the standard of rap when we was coming up younger rex rex was
the first thing um but book is like the floyd mayweather mook is floyd mayweather yeah i've
never seen him lose a battle yeah i didn't have see him lose a battle. Contrast to anybody's belief. I'm not saying that because I'm a man.
I've never seen him lose a battle ever in my life.
And I'm not being biased.
I might have called him.
We called each other.
Don't want to share that.
The way that story changed.
We called him.
He called him.
It was something.
Because he posted some shit about Moog.
And you know, that's my favorite battle rapper.
Monster.
So I just wanted to talk shit, because that's
the type of nigga Busta is at like 5 o'clock in the morning.
So I was like, yo.
I know that.
That nigga ain't got no ball.
That nigga ain't got no album.
Because I'm already Moog's biggest fan,
but I can't tell Busta this at this time.
I just want to beef with him.
I'm about to go jogging, so this is the perfect steroids I need.
Like, in my mind, just so I'm like,
yo, what's up? What's up?
Move ain't out, man. Don't be that fire.
He's like, what?
This is exactly why we took this long.
I'm like,
I didn't know he had to go long, but I'm not saying
that. I just wanted to beef. I'm like, what
you mean, taking long? He's like, yeah.
Because people think battle rappers can't make a piece of work and I'm like, yeah
So he made a piece of you mean I made a piece of work either
Yo, he made him and he's going in on this shit
I love that shit because I busted really he really really believe in a passion. He believed me
He believed in Luke's boss is there so just about my rap is rapper. Yeah, he's the rapper
So it's just about applying like thatook is a rapper's rapper, man. Yeah, he's a rapper's rapper. So it's just about applying.
That's like having the paint, having the outline.
It's just about paint in between the lines now.
So that's all he has to actually do is paint in between the lines, in my opinion.
I see you.
Because I know who Busta is. That is, yes.
Listen, I call Busta almost like 14 times every month just to see me in the studio.
That number is so exact.
14 times every month.
Just to see, like in an awkward moment too, like awkward times, like 8.30 at night, you
in the studio?
And he's like, nah, I'm over here.
And then I'm like, all right, cool, 2.30 in the morning, yeah, I'm in the studio.
He has not stopped.
Has not.
He's the most relentless, but he's got to be the worst.
Have you worked with Boston?
Yeah.
I was managing him for a minute.
He's very, very meticulous, very dedicated.
Meticulous?
That sounds like a great word to say difficult.
No, meticulous.
No, very detailed.
Very detailed.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, he goes to perfection.
Like, Dr. Dre is meticulous.
You know what I'm saying? The American West with Dan Flores is the latest show from the Meat Eater Podcast Network,
hosted by me, writer and historian Dan Flores, and brought to you by Velvet Buck.
This podcast looks at a West available nowhere else.
Each episode, I'll be diving into some of the lesser-known histories of the West.
I'll then be joined in conversation by guests such as Western historian Dr. Randall Williams
and best-selling author and MeatEater founder Stephen Rinella. I'll correct my kids now and
then where they'll say when cave people were here. And I'll say, it seems like the Ice Age people
that were here didn't have a real affinity for caves.
So join me starting Tuesday, May 6th, where we'll delve into stories of the West and come to understand how it helps inform the ways in which we experience the region today.
Listen to The American West with Dan Flores on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
I know a lot of cops, and they get asked
all the time, have you ever
had to shoot your gun?
Sometimes the answer is yes.
But there's a company
dedicated to a future where
the answer will always be
no. Across the country,
cops called this taser the revolution.
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Cops believed everything that taser told them.

our childhood in some sort. You said I look how youthful I look because I never let that little

jokes. I love funny. I love laughing. I laugh at myself. I don't take myself too seriously.

And that's
a perfect...
He's my friend and he's difficult.
Oh, baby.
Come on.
He got a great album coming soon.
No, his album is phenomenal.
His album is amazing.
I think him and Dre's album
are going to come out at the same time.
They are.
Listen, listen.
Dre's coming out with an album.
You think so?
Now that he's getting divorced?
Yeah, I'll be careful.
That album's coming out.
It's coming out.
I don't know why it's coming out.
Yeah, it's coming out.
I don't know what he got to do.
He had a pre-note.
Let me tell you something, bro.
No, I'm not saying because of that.
I'm saying because when you get a bad music, like a bad situation.
No, it's going to inspire him to go work is what I'm saying.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
Busta album is fire, man.
Let me tell you something, bro.
That is my inspiration.
I call him every, like I said, every couple of days.
I just argue with him.
Like, I just want to argue with him. I can't imagine that argument. Not an argument. I just him every, like I said, every couple of days. I just argue with him. Like, I just want to argue
with him. Like, I want to be that. I can't imagine
that argument. Not an argument. I just want to disagree.
That's what it is because he's a very strong
disbeliever of disagreement.
Oh, he likes to debate. He loves to debate.
So I'll be like, I'll just say some shit like,
I don't think that's correct.
But I can't imagine anybody winning against Busta in any debate.
I never said I win, bro.
I just need that energy.
I need that, what the fuck are you talking about?
I need that.
And when he gives me that, I'm like, all right, cool, I'm going to run.
And he knows that shit.
But he's a very unique individual.
So you guys also work with Cameron
Yeah, shape camera also seems like a difficult individual. I'm just throwing out that you don't use the word difficult
Would you use again? What's it called meticulous meticulous?
Nah cam is not no difficult at all. He don't want pink M&Ms. Nah. You're not that guy
No, I'm a hell nigga man
I just want to make sure you got the call service there to get him there and make sure the money right.
Money right and call service.
Yeah, Cam's super nice.
We got to get our money right and get our call service
to get Cam on right here.
God damn it.
Make some noise.
God damn it.
Cam, our money ain't right and we ain't got no call service.
Let's work this out.
Let's work this out.
We love you, brother.
You know, me and Cam at one point,
we was like Jay and
Nas of our era, you know, it's in 98. Mm-hmm
We ain't be able to get it back together. You're the same off me. So champagne. I know Brooklyn
You know this drink champ so I supposed to keep my tongue bottled? It's called spread lovin' bro. You know this drink champ so I had to come. Yo I had to come for you.
What are you smoking?
Is that smoke or is that?
Smoke is premium package.
We going into compliance.
Compliance very soon.
Smoke is club shit.
What's those two joints?
What's those two joints? There's different shit or what?
This is Miami's finest
This is some griffins. Oh, sorry. This is some old school
Wafers wait for this wait for them that were like the other way first wait for us. Okay, and this is arms and runs
Right. Oh shit. That's my making sweat. Okay. I give you a little smorgasbord
Okay, okay, you roll one one for me. We having fun. OK, that's a month.
OK, can you roll one more for me?
You wanted me?
Oh, he tested negative.
That's right.
You tested negative.
He said he tested negative.
Come on, come on, come on, come on, boy.
Do we have more cigars?
Yeah, we got more cigars.
Goddamn.
Go take a little pee-pee.
I got some paper.
I don't know if y'all smoke papers and shit.
I got some custom papers.
I'm going to be honest, bro.
Nah, nah, I feel you. Trust me.
My lungs is old school.
Nah, niggas get... Speaking of papers, because we back on weed.
My lungs is what we appreciate them niggas from Harlem from back in the days.
My lungs is old school.
What we doing with the smoke champs, man?
Let's do it, bro.
What are we doing? Because come and see me too.
This is all I take at all.
All I take at all.
Hey, look. This is a collector's item for the niggas that do want to come smoke papers.
This is for smoke papers. To smoke this and papers. I'm not going to lie. I'm a collector's item for the meters that do want to come smoke
Smoke this I'm a homeless. I'm not gonna smoke this. I'm gonna see my hip-hop members Yeah, some smoke disappear. So I know why I guess that yeah
But what we doing with the smoke chance where do you go? We already do it
Listen, actually we already think we got a move for y'all where y'all nigga like, you know, yeah, we're actually you're off
Yeah, let's go. No, we're actually off air. Let's get this money.
You know,
we're boom.
Yeah.
We go to LA a couple days.
Yeah,
because we ready.
You know what I mean?
Me and him,
we got our own podcast
when we on FaceTime.
Right.
So we just need the people
to hear what we got going on.
Okay.
Okay.
Because that's our conversations
as it is.
Okay.
Y'all working together now,
right?
All right.
Work together, brother.
Teamwork.
Yeah, teamwork.
Make the dream work.
But yeah, we need to do the smoke shams. Are we gonna do that brother? We're gonna do that
No, we got your back bro. And you know what? Thank you. Jason. I respect y'all both
Like where is he and motherfucking OVA and respect all by so and you know putting the play together
So if this ain't nothing to it, but to do it goddamn, let's go definitely get open the bottle and then take those sudden to drink
You get some of the drink
Talking
Rose no more, but I'm bringing it with you
cuz you over there with a town hook hogan and cinematic chain and a smokers club chain and you out here looking very rich and
The song keeps the joints got that not an action on everybody in the Sean Kingston joint. Right, the Sean Kingston joint, god damn.
Nah, I did it. Sean Kingston.
And your relationship with Dap or Dab?
That's, look, Dap watched me grow up.
You know what I mean? Dap knew me before I rapped,
when I was playing basketball.
Me and Jelani, his son, we both went to private school.
We was the niggas in the hood that wore uniforms.
That's why you know the big words, because of private school. I respect that.
That, watching wrestling and just reading books, because I like reading books.
But me and Jelani, we was the two kids out the hood that went to private school.
And we both like basketball, so before we went on our journeys to get to school,
we'd be in the schoolyard shooting. I mean? And fast forward, when I started rapping,
they always supported me.
But you ever went to Dap's store
as a little nigga?
I used to go to Dap's crib.
Who'd you see?
Who'd you see at Dap's store?
Like, I ain't going front.
I never was really in the store.
I heard all the stories.
I heard about the Mike Tyson,
Mitch Green.
Dap tell me all the stories.
I ain't make it to the store,
neither.
Aw, man, bro.
I hear all the stories. And I'm 42, so I'm not alone. You should have been at the stories. I ain't make it to the store neither. Aw, man, bro. I hear all the stories.
And I'm 42,
so I'm out of line.
You should have been
in the store.
I wouldn't get money back then.
When he tell me all that,
I feel you.
I feel you.
Let me put you on.
When we was younger,
right,
you know,
because kids is cruel.
So a lot of the kids,
that was the first bootleg
as a kid.
So if your iceberg didn't have Gilmore on it,
you know what I mean?
Niggas was coming for you.
Niggas was like, oh, that's me.
Bye, Dap.
It was like a joke.
So when we was younger,
we didn't get the significance of who he was
and what he was in the hip-hop culture right now.
Fast forward, before he got the
Gucci that style well a kill who she has Louis Vuitton both bits dab style but
before he even got there I used him for the don't smoke rock cover with me and
Pete you'll be rock right just because I was gonna be when we had turtlenecks the
whole suit dab did all of that. So the whole aesthetic Oh, yeah, the whole list. I wanted the whole aesthetic to feel like, you know after it was
Okay, I
Wanted all instead aesthetic to be like after New Jack City right so jack city came out now this is all black you feel me i didn't understand that you
didn't write it brown but after nino brown you feel me like what that would have looked like
the modern nino brown right and the whole the music was like black exploitation because you
know that's what i was watching and and just studying lines samples people a lot. Did you guys clear those samples?
No, we got the whole album replayed.
So, you know, and it wasn't the direct interpolations.
Look at what they did.
That's how rich people avoid taxes.
They replay. It's called replay.
Right, and it wasn't direct.
Very, very hot questioning.
It's okay because it wasn't direct interpretation.
Yeah, right.
So it's all good.
Damn this nigga really do know you.
And it's not a perpetuity.
Damn it's not a perpetuity.
Because I got to, you know, like I said, I bumped my toe and hit my head so much in this shit, right, that if you don't learn you deserve everything you get.
So at this point I'm just moving off experience, you know what I mean?
And speaking to my peers and knowing that, you know, a lot of people have been in these situations.
Who's moving off living off experience?
That's living off experience.
I thought you were going to drop the Lox ball.
I said, okay.
You're supposed to say living off experience.
No, I was.
I was.
I mean, you said that.
I'm like, damn it.
But you know, I'm moving off of experience.
You're moving off of hip-hop, niggas.
You're moving off of hip-hop, niggas.
You're moving off of each other like there's something missing right here.
Right, right, right.
Shout out to the Lox.
Shout out to the Lox.
But you know, the fact that I've been through so much shit just doing business,
you got to learn from it.
So I'm moving with a sense of being wise than just being thirst.
Like, all money ain't good money.
I'm good on certain shit.
You know what I mean?
You had one of the first ASAP Rocky features as well.
I was the first nigga to give
Rocky a feature.
And you know, I always
believed in Rocky and Yams. God bless.
Yams used to come to my shows.
Was Rocky's
hair out?
Was it permed out like he had the twist.
He had the two braids.
He had the twist.
He didn't have a perm.
He didn't have a perm.
Let's talk about that.
You know, he was the first nigga I seen
wearing Jeremy Scott's at that time.
You know what I mean?
That's the yalla with the Adidas with the flag.
Right, with the pandas and all that.
Oh, okay.
Right, and Rocky always had this energy with him.
Like he was from Soho, but he'd be hard.
Right, but I'm going to tell a real story.
So my man Steve, my brother, somebody I grew up with that was managing me.
So we went into the hole before.
We was like friends that come in that they end up managing people in.
He's still doing good because he's managing other big artists as well.
But he was the one that encouraged me to
work with A$AP Rocky at the time. Because the record for a local that I had, I wanted to put
Juicy J on the record. This is when Juicy J was getting trippy. He was just coming off the Smokers
Club tour. He had a report. And we was already speaking. So I'm like, now I'm going to put Juicy
on this. And he's like, nah, let's keep it Harlem. It's this kid A$AP Rocky. I'm like,
who the fuck is A$AP Rocky? Who told you about A$AP Rocky?
My man, Steve.
Steve. Okay, Steve.
Okay.
And, you know, I always...
That's Steve from Pit Fuming.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I always took his word as gold because...
Steve from Def Jam?
No, not Steve from Def Jam.
You're sorry.
GFC, GFC, Steve.
That's Steve from Jackass, right?
No, GFC, Steve.
You got any more Steve's in here?
No, shout out to Steve. That's Steve from Kindle, right? No, GFC Steve-O. You got any more Steve-O? No, shout out to Steve-O.
That's Steve-O Kendall, right?
No, GFC Steve-O.
Shout out to Steve-O.
Shout out to Steve.
But yeah, you know, when he told me, like, let's keep the energy in Harlem, you know
what I mean?
I couldn't really go against that.
And this is before.
And this is before, yeah.
This is before pesos.
This is before anything.
This was just me betting on somebody that I believed in my man saying that,
all right, this kid is going to be next.
And I'm like, fuck it, man.
What could be the worst thing to happen, right?
So I put the nigga on the record.
Nigga started going.
Then after a while, everybody hitting my phone for Rocky.
I'm like, why this nigga's hitting my phone?
I don't manage this nigga.
Everybody's trying to sign this thing.
Everybody trying to.
And fast forward, he signed to Polo Browns and a sever in everything else
Brian Lee's Brian Lee's but you know big up Riley's you know said rocky and you always be
There you know sense. I know you know I know of him. I don't know him, but I know
It's my bro big up you know since Brian Gino
Yeah, once once rocky got to where he to, he still came back and was like,
yo, what's up, what we doing?
You can still get a record with him right now?
You know what I mean?
Even after the draws,
you know you got to act with draws.
That's my nigga.
He gets to the money.
You know what I mean?
He doing what he doing.
He doing what he doing.
But you know,
he never got weird on me.
You feel me?
Like he always was a nigga to be like,
I was doing it.
Who's a nigga got weird on you?
Let's just throw it out.
This drink champ says.
Who's a nigga got weird on you? You know, there's a lot of champs It doesn't think I really know so I don't win niggas
But I won't even say niggas that got weird on me because it's the music business
You know I mean like I could tell you they got any business on you
Look, I could say it. I could take the niggas that didn't get weird
You know I mean it's like big crit. You know I mean niggas like Wiz Khalifa
You know I mean these currency you know I mean Wiley Wiz Khalifa. Let's get with people on phone. Let's see this
Picks up for he definitely pick it up for me
See the thing is with my friends with a phone these niggas

So he's Cuban?
So he's Cuban?
So he's Cuban.
If the father is Cuban, then he's Cuban.
He says he thinks that the mother is a boy and she is also a boy.
Or a boy.
Ah, wow.
He's got little Joey.
Hold on, little Joey's in the car. What up, what up, what up, what up? He's Cuban, B. Ah!

All right, cool.
Holy shit.
I was totally caught off.
I felt like I was calling somebody else.
All right.
All right.
Let's see.
All right.
We good?
Let's just keep talking.
You got somebody else?
I feel like you got somebody else.
I got a few people, but I don What we talking? Let's just keep talking. You got somebody else?
I feel like you got somebody else.
I got a few people, but you know,
I don't know what these niggas is doing.
Yeah, me neither, nigga.
Hold on.
These niggas didn't even need me.
Let's just try anybody, bro.
I'm gonna call the Dalai Lama right now.
These niggas gonna be calling me back
when I'm out of here.
I ain't gonna answer for these niggas.
Nah, we gonna keep it going.
Keep this shit going.
But y'all niggas not drinking this motherfucking.
This is the...
Now, what is the difference with Clicquot?
See, I like the Vouv.
It's just some Harlem shit.
I don't know, man.
I guess.
I just like the Vouv.
I like the bottle.
I like the fact that it come in a little box.
Sometimes it come in a little bag.
Every nigga don't drink that.
You know what I'm saying?
I think you should have stopped saying it, man.
What?
Ariyalli.
Oh, you gonna stop saying n, man. What? A reality.
Oh, you can stop saying that?
That was his thing.
That's the left right. Every yonder don't drink that.
You can stop saying that in your real life or...
I'm trying to stop saying it in my real life.
Because you don't know the off TV.
No, yeah.
And you know what?
You know what the craziest thing was?
It's a different number.
I had a great...
I had a great...
I went to Denver.
Oh, yeah.
And in Denver, I had like 35 people with me.
And everybody getting money.
God bless everybody getting money.
It's a beautiful thing.
And when I looked around, the only person I heard that word from was from us.
So I just wanted to correct that because it's just like,
it makes the white people that's cool with us feel uncomfortable when they see us say that sometimes.
So I'm just like, you know what?
We better than that.
We can do better than that.
And we're the most creative,
like, cause you know, it was one part when I was in Denver
and I was with all my white friends, bro.
Cause all of my Colorado, Cherry Colorado friends,
they're all white, great, beautiful people.
But they listen to the music.
They drunk as us, and they editing themselves every time a word come on in the rap music.
They ain't slipping up and going, my niggas.
They ain't slipping up.
They making their own edit.
And I'm like, if they could do that, they drunk just as drunk as me. Why don't we participate in that so that's
that's my flight I think I'm gonna lose I don't care I can change my environment
my circumference yeah that's what matters we got deep I was telling them it was a little deep. Still my Yande. Still my Yande. After all that niggas said, it's still my nigga.
Still my Yande, y'all.
You know what I'm saying?
You a L Yande.
Yeah, I'm a practice it while I'm with you.
Yeah, yeah, practice Yande, y'all.
I'm a practice it while I'm with you.
You know what I'm saying?
You know what I mean?
You know what I mean?
You can't call everybody king.
And you can't call everybody bro, I'm being honest.
I'm going to go listen to your classics
and replace nigga with Yande. It's going to be really hard. No, no, no, no, no. Different rhymes gonna listen to your classics and replace nigga. We on this
Different run replace the past. Oh, we gotta let the past
So moving things just like you said you can't take away you want your ass
I can't see anything we did the pack but moving forward we got a you know
We should we should because we the yandex y'all
And the y'all was any yandex is gonna y'all y'all y'all. Yeah, you know few dollars
70 I'll take back to 70s. What's that?
It's not calling people slick and slick you can't say blood the blood right now blood that you might think it's gang affiliate
Listen, man, depending the sense where I was
It's like Compton right now
Brooklyn on the gangster. Yeah
Yo it right now. Brooklyn? Oh, and the gang shit, yeah. Yo, y'all crippin', bloodin'.
But it's the little homies,
you know what I mean?
The little homies.
You blaming the little homies?
I'm not blaming them.
No, no, no, no.
I'm not.
I'm not blaming anybody.
I'm just saying
that's where it's coming from.
And I'm saying, you know,
for me, like,
anybody that I consider
my little homie,
I try to put them in the path
to some money
or to some type of opportunity to where it will I try to put him in the path to some money or to some type of opportunity.
So it would be fruitful to not be in the street or to not be, you know, in any kind of gang type of time.
And I respect gang time, especially in L.A.
You feel me?
Like L.A.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
Because you're going hard.
You actually.
How much time did you spend in L.A.? It's so deep. It's so deep. It's so deep. It's so deep. It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep.
It's so deep. It's so deep. It's so deep. It's so deep. It's so deep. All them hooks came from him. You know me at the beginning when he was 15 16. Did he have some assist?
I mean, you know everybody don't got the
Grown man mind at that time when they putting you in grown men wrong people situations
They do shit so all the tools involved the light
But you know he still had to deliver that shit because you could write I could write for my mom's but that don't mean that
She won't do what Sean did you feel me oh cuz you gotta deliver that
continue and it wasn't even like writing a whole song since I didn't write
everything Sean got a mind and a pen of his own so I never discredit him
I just want to say something right now I'm smoking this diamonds you know what
diamonds is I was that. What the? T-C-S. What I want to do? Try one of those.
What is that?
Homegrown.
What is that?
Some of that smoke.
That's what it is.
That's what it is.
That's a hiz yalla.
All right, cool.
Hiz yalla right here.
My yalla right here.
Can you tell them what diamonds is?
What the?
Diamonds is like.
What is that?
Diamonds.
Yeah, but you know, listen.
When I put that on a gram, I'll be going like that, and I'll put it on a blunt, you should
see these weed enthusiasts. They'll be like, what the fuck is wrong? Because you know that you're supposed to put it in a home. You're supposed to put it on a gram. I'll be going like that and I put it on a blunt. You should see these we enthusiast
Because you know that he's supposed to put it on put it in the dab and a dad
I'll figure out the foul is away just
Ain't gonna hold you. I know I took a dab a few years ago fucking with this nigga whiz man
And I swear man. They almost killed me off that dab.
I said from there on in, I'm never smoking this shit ever again.
It's too much like, I went to the studio.
It's like, yeah, it's weed-based and not free-based.
It's a little bit free-based, bro.
The idea of it, the idea of it.
The shit I got is free-based.
That's why I bought it from the blood.
In the rig, in the rig with the creme brulee torch,
it's a lot.
It's a process.
You motherfuckers make crystal weed.
But we don't.
But we don't.
But we don't.
But let's not forget, for people that's watching that might
think of something else, it's the purest form of weed.
A TAZ.
A TAZ.
A TAZ, yes.
A TAZ.
I don't need that.
It's the purest form.
It's the purest form.
Do I need it?
No, I don't need it because it's very intense.
How is it created?
The process. How is it created swim. Do I need it? No, I don't need it because it's very how's it created? How's it how's it created? It doesn't know well, I don't want to be uh, I
Don't I don't want to give any misinformation
I'm not a badass, but I believe it's melted some sushi
I can't explain it for my eyes because the green thumbs to be hitting me like yo, I could get somebody a burger
Obey What's up Chance, what's up how you doing? What's good baby? Smoke Diz and Hovane Okay, okay, what up Smoke?

Yeah, we all 1-1. So I know one of these niggas.
Wait, Hovain? Hovain? Oh, you got one.
Hovain ain't getting no call.
Nah, you gotta try, Hovain. Give him a call.
We gonna make this one. Yeah, I was about to say call the ghost, man.
I'm about to call this because I'm hungry., I was about to say call the ghost, man. I'm about to call this, because I'm hungry.
So I'm about to call the nigga from Prime 112.
The nigga that owns it.
Damn.
I think I'm gonna win.
Oh, that's the ultimate flex.
I think I'm gonna win.
You gonna win with that one.
I think I'm gonna call Ju-Lon.
No, no.
We ain't need Ju-Lon, though, Arian.
We can't get a chicken saute.
We call it restaurants.
I'm gonna call Chipotle right now.
Hold on.
No.
No.
Unless you get the nigga that owns Chipotle, pick up.
You lose.
Not calling.
Holy moly guacamole.
And I think bottle gonna come up in a couple of ten minutes.
A couple of ten minutes?
Yeah, yeah.
We gonna ask somebody for the Charles Spirau moment.
That's my nigga right there, man.
If he got a lot of lineage in Harlem.
Everybody say, oh my God.
Y'all know who the trust me right is?
Don't know who PJ Carlissimo is.
You gotta know who it happened to.
You got to choke PJ Carlissimo.
Let me ask you this, dude.
What was the coach's name?
PJ Carlissimo.
Oh, word.
Yeah, he choked me.
Damn, I ain't no coach, man.
I feel like I'm hearing shit.
Oh, because I'm hearing my head full.
Oh, I got it.
Now, this is the thing.
So one of my favorite artists of all time is the Harlem dude, Big L.
What does Big L mean to Harlem now?
I mean, you know, that's a good question.
To somebody like me that was born in the era of Big L and studying rap patterns and studying Big L himself, he is Mount Rushmore.
For a young kid, I don't really know how that correlates. Rob Markman, Right, it might not. Does it?
Rob Markman, Or a young kid from Harlem now, it's certain young kids like my
artist like Jay Grams, the Jay Grams of the world, that actually is meticulous, good
Hovain word, to certain rap music a lot patterns and watching battle rap and you know doing different shit to sharpen his sword pause studying
somebody like big L will work for him because metaphorically how he structure
I set up his boss structure the type of beats he rapped on I mean that's for
somebody that that caters to lyrics then I really like a penny to butcher I mean like that is shit that kids could take that's how much it was the first
people that work with them did we still about that yeah we didn't talk about
that how was you like the first person I feel like let me say let me say first
person like what does he mean he's a humble guy humble guy when people think of New York City and like New York City rappers? They don't think of Buffalo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
New York City rappers. He's one of the people that they think of he got people when you go to certain cities
You think of who could I they wanted to work with you you say I mean what's that send me a song?
I feel like off like H Hitler for Hitler three
Call mr. Fuji with some wrestling shit. I remember Combat Jack telling me about that.
Rest in peace.
Rest in peace.
And this is before the Eminem situation, so I was already privy to knowing and hearing
how niggas gave it up.
And I was already a fan, so when they hit me up, I'm like, anybody that like wrestling
that's doing that type of rap that I do, I'm like, I'm embracing it because it wasn't a lot of people
that was doing it at that point. So that's how I link with them and you know, niggas just created
a bond from then to where, you know, niggas just move in unison as far as we keep each other
current to what's going on. You know, even East. Like, I was the first person
to give East a feature
that was a known nigga.
You know what I mean?
He's a staple in the city.
Davies.
Davies, yeah.
You know what I mean?
And these niggas...
Call them niggas short names.
Right, no, because these niggas
is...
We gotta know
because they big artists.
You know what I mean?
At this point,
these niggas done surpassed
a lot of people's visions
for them, you know?
So, yeah, you know, I don't even take it like, you know,
on some like, stick my, poke my chest out shit
because each one's each one.
You feel me?
Like, and I'm still, niggas still on they journey
at the end of the day.
So, you know?
That's how I give it up a whole van to say I'm too humble.
Too humble, man.
Too humble.
You know when you on tour, you go to every city like you let me call my man
I know he got the weed my other bitches. He's nice. He's cool. He's dope MC
He that nigga from you like the Snoop Dogg of New York knows that it's the plus
Oh, yeah, I want to call this nigga. Oh you got some weed crucial. Yeah clutch I like pushing the gas. I like pushing the gas. He Mark Jackson, man.
I introduced Cam and Rocky.
That was the first time them niggas met.
4am, me, Dane, Rocky, Bari, Killa.
It was pink and perms involved.
It was just some hollering shit 4am in front of El Porto.
It was just some hollering shit 4am in front of El Porto.
It was just some hollering shit 4am in front of El Porto.
El Porto? That's not gym burgers?
The seafood joint.
By Jim Bow's on the hill
Project right okay, I'm very familiar exactly you know I mean not a Cuban spot. You know my favorite burger

Yeah, baby reminds me of Jimbo. Oh Jimbo's to me is
Just a Harlem thing. I feel it. Not in the Bronx to us uptown. Okay
Okay, Jimbo's is like Jackson Hole jr. Jackson Hole Jackson Hole some queens. Yeah, so in my mind as a whole some queens
I'm not sure but I
Yeah In my mind, Jack's a wholesome queezer. I'm not sure. But I am. Yeah.
So Jimbo's is still popping.
Jimbo's still popping right now.
When you come on Saturday, we got to go to Jimbo's
and get some salad, all that.
All right, I'm in.
All right.
You know, NOE hot dogs, pause.

He's the glizzy.
We're the glizzy.
We go to the stand, he say, yo, give me one with everything
on it
Give me a hot dog everything on it
Everything
New York onions
Dirt Because I'm going to be honest, I'm addicted to New York onions. It's that dirt. New York onions?
Nah, it's the dirt.
It's the sauerkraut.
It's the fucking mustard.
The ketchup.
Like, when I go to New York, I can't be on a diet because I got to have a hot dog, everything on it, no hot dog.
And I got to have a disrespectful pizza.
I got to have a pizza where I put on nothing but red peppers.
Then I'm putting on garlic. Then I'm putting on the parmigiani.
Then I'm putting on the pepper again.
And then I'm bringing salt for three minutes.
Come on!
You might as well eat a glizzy full of that.
Niggas said salt and time.
You might as well have a glizzy full. You count the time you were there.
I take 13 baths.
It all got to go.
But yeah, listen.
It reminds me of my childhood.
You know, back then, salt would make everything taste better.
Salt and sugar.
Salt and sugar.
Salt and sugar makes everything taste better.
That's a fact. Jeez, that's a fact. That's a fact.
Cheese Louise, Papa Cheese, man.
You got to remember this, man.
Holy moly, guacamole, bro.
I'll be drinking because I feel like I'm drinking your champagne.
Nigga, I'm drinking with you.
I drink my own champagne, man.
I take another shot of brownies. You want to do that too?
It's mixed. It's mixed. Come on. Open that, Jovane.
Let me see. You a real champagne. Can you see how I was not?
No, you know me in real life.
I know you in real life. I'm very sure. I apologize.
Tell that story.
I apologize because Mr. Lee, you don't see how I don't trust Mr. Lee.
I'm like this the whole time. He's popping. I'm like this.
We used to drink. We used to put Patrona in our champagne.
See, I need to tell my parents.
A little extra kick.
I'll be honest. I did not like them at that point.
I'm going to be honest.
A little extra kick.
Me, I listen. Hovang, Troy Ives, they come out, we pop
and we chillin'. That's a dirty mix, man.
We chillin', listen to this, I'm trying to say we chillin'. Yo, so every night, you know,
these guys is poppin'. So I'm, you know, I want to support my dudes. I'm good, but I
want to support my dudes. I come out, these niggas got Rose and Patron. Y'all was like, no problem. They filled up my cup.
I have no idea.
Probably about
two and a half bottles in.
I burped.
To kill her.
I said, man, I've been drinking
rosé this whole night.
You know when your burp tell you.
Your dad will tell you whatever it is.
PC! PC! Even so long! You know when your burp your burp tell you that whatever Yo, so
I'm telling my old man anything. I'm hitting up on four cups deep in
Before I realized that y'all got y'all it I'm like dick I don't like all
right let me just say let me just be careful when I say this it's not I don't
like to kill yeah I like to be aware when I'm inhaling tequila I don't wanna
run be prepared take my asthma and then realize after seven asthma pumps,
the killer was in the air the whole time.
I don't want to learn that way.
Tell me the killer's in the yard, y'all.
Right, right, right.
So I'm over there like this.
Four glasses.
I go to the bar.
Nick's like, no, you got nowhere.
He got you right here.
Take another.

Separate I was still do the same shit.
I would take them away and I'd take a shot.
But not in the same class
because you are doing
uppers and downers.
It's like taking heroin

That's how you're equating that?
I'm about to say that.
That's a good one.
Take heroin and then take cocaine
after. Don't take it together.
It's not a good thing.
That was
totally terrible.
That was a terrible analogy.
It made sense.
I understood what you were saying.

My face is like this.

Listen, fuck me up.
Fuck me up, give me fuck up.
