Starting point is 00:04:53 What up? It's DJ E-F-N. And it's Drink Champs, motherfucker. Yappy yow. Make some noise! And when we talk about a producer's producers, we talk about a mogul. We talk about a legend. We talk about an icon.
Starting point is 00:05:09 We talk about a hit maker. The Quincy Jones of our time. The only person that can work with the Michael Jackson of our time numerous amounts of times. Goats come out the house for him. He's a legend upon legend. Mogul upon mogul. He's got deals with michael jordan yeah that's true michael jordan cosigns his feet good way to put it he's a goddamn legend he's been out here making hits i think this is 13th album yeah and for a lot of people 13 is a bad luck number
Starting point is 00:05:42 he's changing the trajectory hold on hold on no no. No, no, no, no, no, no. You got to get, you know, in the scriptures, in the Bible, it's actually the most beautiful-est number. Oh, OK. We're going to get to that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So in case y'all don't know who the fuck we talking about. Any home team, any home team.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Any home team. Oh, you better believe that. We're talking about one and only, motherfucking DJ Khaled. Make some noise. Now, Khaled, thank you so much! Now Khaled, you got the single out right now. Yeah, so let me pop one too. Yeah, we can't, we gotta get straight to the single.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Yeah, we got to. Stayin' Alive. Stayin' Alive, man, it's such a blessing. First of all, the album's called God Did. Right, because they didn't believe in us. God Did. And this album is made by everybody that believed.
Starting point is 00:06:30 And there's a lot more people that believe. But you know, when it comes down to this album, this particular album is those that believed on another level. And Stayin' Alive is such an important record, not just for me.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Right. First of all, I want to big up Drake. Right. Because Drake did. Drake did. Lil Baby did. Yes, yes. And Drake is my brother,
Starting point is 00:06:53 and Lil Baby's my brother, and the blessing to work with Drake and Lil Baby. Two of the hottest people on the planet right now. Yeah, for sure, but we're true friends. You know what I'm saying? And me and Drake have known each other for so long.
Starting point is 00:07:07 And me and Lil Baby, our relationship's getting bigger and bigger and greater every time. And all of us, we win together. That's the beautiful thing when you win together.
Starting point is 00:07:15 You know what I'm saying? With Drake, besides music, he's my brother brother. And I like what Drake likes. know I'm saying you know winners work with winners right greatness greatness always attract other greatness yes um and I just want to I want to take my time you know just to thank him on this incredible platform Drake I appreciate you little baby I appreciate you
Starting point is 00:07:44 everybody that's on the album I appreciate you. Little Baby, I appreciate you. Everybody that's on the album, I appreciate you, but we're talking about the single. Right. And this single, Stayin' Alive, it's only been out, I don't know when it's coming out, but it's only been out for three days,
Starting point is 00:07:55 three and a half days. Right. And this is the type of record that resonates with everyone. Mm. Mm. You know, it's been crazy times. We out here trying to stay alive. Let's been crazy times. We out here
Starting point is 00:08:05 trying to stay alive. Let's keep it real. We out here dodging all types of shit. It's very true. You know, there's Corona, there's a new theory
Starting point is 00:08:11 and next day this theory. It's always a theory. Right, it's always a theory. But this record is special because this album's called God Did. God Did.
Starting point is 00:08:20 That's right. And the single's called Staying Alive. They don't want us to live. God Did.. Right. They don't want us to live. God did. God did. They don't want us to live, so we stay alive. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:31 And anybody act up, I let another fucking Drake go. And I let a Jay-Z go. And I let a clip of Future go. And I let another clip of Baby go. Anybody act up, I put another anthem upon their fucking head top so fast. I've been doing this shit for 17, 18 years consistently.
Starting point is 00:08:51 I am Summer. Okay? I make songs of the year. You know, they always say Cal will come with his song. No, I'm the year. Right.
Starting point is 00:09:01 All right? No, no, no. My bad. I didn't want to start off like this. No, no, no, I ain't, my bad, I didn't want to start off like this. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I didn't want to, I came in chill, I'm a dream. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. You know what I mean? When you invited me, I was like, that's my brother.
Starting point is 00:09:15 You know, I don't do too many interviews. Cause I got my own interview. I say what I want to say anytime I want. Cause I'm going to make sure it's at a high level. It's going to motivate, it's going to high level Right It's gonna motivate It's gonna inspire And it's gonna Motivate that person That felt like
Starting point is 00:09:28 They couldn't make it in life I wanna show them that We can do this shit Right You know I'm one of them people Right You know what I mean When they see Khaled everyday
Starting point is 00:09:35 They be like that man You can hate me You can love me But you gonna fucking respect me Right For sure Ain't nobody work harder than me Cause they not me
Starting point is 00:09:44 Right Period And don't get twisted Right I'm sorry I'm about to go fucking respect me. For sure. Ain't nobody work harder than me because they not me. Right. Period. And don't get twisted. I'm sorry. I'm about to go into a whole lot. No, no, no. We here. We here. The love is so phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:09:53 That's what keeps me going. Right. Like, to have 13 albums and you're EFN 13, that's not regular. No, it's not regular. You know, we win so much,
Starting point is 00:10:03 people think this shit is normal. Right. They think this shit, okay, I'll put another hit. They know it's a regular. You know, we win so much people think this shit is normal They think this shit. Okay, I'll put it out here. They know it's a hit. They know it. They think this shit is normal Right, it's not that's why you can't do it versus you will smoke everybody in first. We got love very I mean, that's facts Anybody's ever asked me that I always said that I'm never backing down on that talk I'm saying but I'm not doing the verse. I got love for burning. I sound clash my whole life Trust me, but you know, I'm not a point right now You know, I'm blessed you bless you bless We all blessed but when it come down to battle and verses all that
Starting point is 00:10:38 I'm more of a fan of it because I used to sound clash my whole life, right and me I'm gonna be real sure I don't know how to do it halfway. Right. Like, it might get, you know what I'm saying? So what they say right now. No, no, no. I'm saying, like, you got to respect my catalog. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Respect the catalog. Like, you know what I'm saying? I respect the question. I respect how you came at it. You know, I get it. And I respect it because I come from that. Like, EFM will tell you, I'm a sound boy. I'm a sound killer.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Right. No, I kill sound. You seen it in Jamaica too. No, I don't think you understand. That's how I play in the game, is killing sound. Nobody's ever gave this shit to me like, oh Cal, here's a door open, yo, we want you to win. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Stop. Good. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work. Hard work.
Starting point is 00:11:26 So, we all got this um, this what was it, a tweet? Or was it an Instagram? No, I believe it was an Instagram from Lenny S saying that he just witnessed the greatest verse of all time. Anybody act up, I'll let the hove go upon their head! Hove did.
Starting point is 00:11:47 How did you get Hov to go to the room? I mean, first of all, you know, Hov, that's like, I'm a fan, such a fan of Hov. Not just in the music. Obviously, the music is, come on, he broke down the door so he could do the shit we doing. a next level fan where, man, this man came from Marcy Projects to where he's at right now as a father, as an entrepreneur, as a mogul,
Starting point is 00:12:14 somebody that you can call for anything and he'll hear you out, somebody you can actually talk to and he's the biggest. Right. All I gotta say is about Hov on my album, Hov did.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Right. And I'm not talking about just Hov did. They didn't believe in us. Hov did. He believed in me. No. Sometimes you got to remind people where Hov did. So, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:12:40 It's too many bars for me to tell you. Right. It's too many bars for me to tell you it's too many bars for me to tell you Anybody act up. I let the whole go by your head And I take no chalk back And I came to your crib Recently and you told me it's not just Jay on the record. It's other people on this record Yes, it is and I want to keep it like well you're talking about the record with with yeah so you know this this album called god did right so when i say this god did this
Starting point is 00:13:11 it's not just cabinet right this god did right look i don't understand i need you to really and i know we were talking about the single staying alive, how it resonates with everybody. Right. God did his touch of people in a different way. Yeah. Everywhere. How'd you come up with that slogan?
Starting point is 00:13:30 I was sitting one day in my crib. I was on the phone and somebody was telling me something. While they was telling me, I just kept looking at it. You know how you ever look at the phone like you're trying to, like, what's this person saying?
Starting point is 00:13:43 Like, so you have to look at it. Then I was like, let me call you back. And I hung up and I put it down. I had my head down for a minute. I was like real disappointed. I was like, damn, they don't believe in us. And then immediately I was like, God did. Like, that's what God, that's what God said, Cal, keep your head up, keep going, don't stop.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Keep coming upon their head. You know, and that's the power of God You know what I'm saying I don't want to get too deep But God is I love him He's the greatest That ever did it
Starting point is 00:14:12 So that's how the name came And I just started saying it And I didn't realize You know the whole world Was feeling what I was feeling They don't believe in us God You got to remind yourself
Starting point is 00:14:24 You have to lift yourself up you can't wait for the next man to lift you up and if they do man hug them tight right they special right you know what i'm saying so like that's how the name that that's how the name came you're saying like it's special so i had to name the album god did one thing about all your albums um and everything you pretty much involved with you always go back to the dance hall you always like give the dance hall people the roots there there there but you know the bigger you got you could have actually forgot about dance never understand um why do you keep it so it and you always go to Jamaica it's like you go out there to be actually record the record with these
Starting point is 00:15:00 people that's like really this album to On Guard, did have something that is so monumental that the record's incredible, the video's done, just who I got on it all together, it's kind of like impossible. Right. Like real talk.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Right. Like, it's really impossible. And when you hear it and you come from that, they'll be like, I ain't never seen that. Right. You know what i'm saying and
Starting point is 00:15:25 um the wreck is crazy too and i'm very proud of it because you're right i always go and i never forget about my roots because i told you earlier i'm a sound killer right right right i kill sound that's why i don't like you know in life you have to progress and prosper in life. You know that. At one point, you have to say to yourself, you have to grow and progress. Evolve. You don't want me to keep killing sound all day in that level of killing sound. You're going to start looking at me different. Right. So now I just put a pot in your head.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Right. And this album, God Did, it's usually like, my albums usually be like the knockout. Right. I decided to knock out and hold the back of the head like this. Walk about. That's how I come. I ain't got
Starting point is 00:16:14 time to be sound clashing nobody. I got nothing to prove to nobody. I got nothing to prove to nobody. Ain't nobody in this room or any fucking room can question what DJ Khaled What his cloth is I'm special
Starting point is 00:16:27 You protect me I'm just being real Nori If you think about it You never hear me talk bad about somebody I don't tear people down That's not my thing But at the same time I have people that love me so much nori will tell you yes
Starting point is 00:16:47 i don't want to be arguing with somebody i got too much love and them people different so i always make sure i gotta be the guy on the team to be like yo we got love we gotta continue to prosper and progress you know what i'm saying like it's so important like the youth that's listening now we have to at one point in life you gotta you gotta grow and take your shit to the next level little things the way you move the way you eat the way you speak the way you present yourself. It's called being a grown man. You can't be a king and queen and not represent. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:17:33 So when I say that, I'm just saying this at the end of the day is I got nothing to prove I have love for everybody. If somebody today did DJ Khaled, I love you. I am so blessed. No, I'm blessed. Right, right. God is great. God did.
Starting point is 00:17:50 God did. Cheers to that. Cheers to that. Now, one of my favorite records that, I believe it came out last year, I just listened to it for a whole year, was Sorry, I'm Not Sorry, with Nas and Jay-Z. How was that putting that together? Because we know their history, and we know that they're cool now, but still, to get these two mogul figures,
Starting point is 00:18:14 two icons together. That was more of me, of a fan of loving this shit so much. That record was me being a fan of loving Hov and Nas, and just loving knowing that me being a fan of loving Hov and Nas and just loving knowing that me as a brother can show the world that we're all brothers. You know what I'm saying? Those are brothers. You know that. Those are brothers. But you know at the end of the day
Starting point is 00:18:37 is you know as we grow you might not get to see these guys share their love and their respect for each other. And that was the hip-hop icons, kings, legends. So me as a fan, I felt like, man, I want to make that happen. It was a dream for me. But also, I knew the fans, because I'm a fan too, that they're going to love that. Man, Khaled got Nas and Hov together. Even though we know they're cool. But some people might act like they forget that they're cool because this world got so much
Starting point is 00:19:07 distortion and negativity that record and the bars on that record was all about motivating inspire inspiring people you listen to both of them they were talking talking that that inspiration and motivation talk you'm saying and that's what made me love it even more you saying right? Because uh, um, I believe me and my wife was filming marriage bootcamp We're gonna came out and be because couldn't stop because stop listen to the record I was coming fussing out a spade every day and I was I was just in tune and it was just it was a beautiful moment for me because It was like, you know what their history and then and then you had them both in
Starting point is 00:19:45 the video was how how hard was that i couldn't believe it i couldn't believe it either that's how much of a fan you are no i'm just being honest with you like you know when i was putting my black suit on i'm like i was bugging out i'm like yo we about to really shoot this shit. And it was Hov and Nas. And I was like, man, we really shooting a visual. It just made me say, you know, obviously, thank you, God, but also thank you for my relationship and these kings trusting me. You know, that's what it's about, Nori. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:20:17 When you're great and you win and you have good energy and, you know, it's about also trust. Right. You know what I'm saying? And when you get a chance to work with great people like that, you have to love each other and trust each other, meaning as in trust my vision. Right.
Starting point is 00:20:33 You know what I'm saying? They ain't got to do that. Right. They ain't got to do none of that. Right. But they knew it was coming from a great place. Right. A great soul and something to give to the people.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Right. Because I'm to the people. Cause I'm for the people, you know what I'm saying? So I felt like me pulling that off, that was like, that goes for me personally, it's legendary for me. You know what I mean? My kids get to see me in the video with Nas and Jay-Z. You know what I'm saying? Make some noise for me.
Starting point is 00:21:00 That's incredible. Make some noise for me. Thank you. Make some noise for me. Man, man, that's awesome. Yo, Norrie, you good though. Let's talk. Man, man. Yo, Nori, you're good, though. You got nice with this shit. Nori's the only nice guy that talks nice
Starting point is 00:21:13 and throws something special in there. Go ahead. I'm with you regardless. Joey Crack's my brother. He's one of my best friends. I'm the godfather of his daughter. Joey Crack is like, that's my brother. We love Joey Crack. Yeah, that's one of my best friends. I'm the godfather of his daughter. Joey Crack is like, that's my brother. We love Joey Crack.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Yeah, that's like, we might not have the same mother, but we're twins. That's my brother, like, talk to him almost every day. You know what I mean, he's at my house, or you know, now he's back in New York, but he's back and forth, so it's like, my love for Joey Cr is is forever but there's nothing he could ever do for me not to love him I love him if he's right he's
Starting point is 00:21:51 more right it don't matter what I'm trying to tell you I stand with him I'm loyal to him that's my brother I ride with him I love him I do anything for him I guess what you do anything for me he got my back yes that's fine because you know that's my we love that's family nori yes it's like joey crack is like right first of all it's a hip-hop legend right but somebody to continue to win non-stop consistently in different levels not just some music we talking about in all right now he doing what's what we call it do we call this media what do we call this which is category he's doing his media journalist he's
Starting point is 00:22:35 doing movies he's doing music he got his his book documentary anything I'm doing that's his anything he doing that's, that's mine. We family. This ain't no joke, ting. Not overnight. I know y'all know, but I guess we talking to the world, right? But take it back. I'll take it back. That's why everybody knows this is no joke, ting.
Starting point is 00:22:57 This is the real ting. You know what I'm saying? Like, going back, I've been down with Fat Joe since his very first album. What's the first interaction? I met him at New Music Seminar in New York City. Wow. I had his vinyl album before it came out.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Now, this is Joey Croc with the face like this, with the fatigues on. It's ain't the Joey Croc you know now. Flo-Joe. Yeah, Flo-Joe. So he seen me with the vinyl in front of the hotel at New Music Seminar. He asked me how I got that. You know, I ain't out yet. You know, at that time, you know.
Starting point is 00:23:28 What'd you say? I had the vinyl, it's not out yet. Oh, the vinyl, I'm just saying. You're a test person, you're a test person. Yeah, so I was like, yo, I'm trying to explain to him, like, yo, you know, I got, that's like a promo, like, you know, I get shit early, he looking at me with the face sideways, like,
Starting point is 00:23:40 you know, like, Fat Joe's, all right? So I'm like, yo, this man about to kill me. You know what I'm saying? And we just end up kicking it, and we build our relationship. Then he used to come to Florida, and then we really built our relationship, and he used to let me DJ on tour with him,
Starting point is 00:23:54 like his shows, or, you know, make beats for his album. He'll come in my garage, I'll make beats. You know what I'm saying? He recorded Lean Back in my studio, in my garage, you garage. I'm saying like Too many stories that take I guess 10 Drink champs. It's too many. I'm saying so but um to make it a long story short
Starting point is 00:24:15 From the mud to marble floors And what's so beautiful about is nobody can break that relationship Nobody and that's what I love about it because it lets you know, like, it's pure, man. I'm proud of you for that, too. So wherever you're at, Pat, Joe, you already know. I'm speaking to him today.
Starting point is 00:24:33 My cute brother. I'm speaking to him today, too. But we had Irv Gotti on here recently, right? And a lot of people critique Irv Gotti for saying that he's a producer, but he doesn't really, like, actually produce. No, he produces. Yeah? Oh, yeah. yeah oh yeah okay yeah I seen him produce he produces like
Starting point is 00:24:48 um we all know how to do this but also producing is about have the ear but not as that have the vision and pushing everybody to bring the vision out see what's so beautiful about making music is ideas. And when you have ideas and a vision, sometimes you can have people that are so talented, they play so much instruments and this and that, it's too much. Sometimes you got to simplify it. It takes a producer, there's beat makers and there's producers. Me personally, I come from beat making turned into a producer. Okay. I come from DJing and beat making and turning into a producer. Okay? I come from DJing and beat making and turning into a producer.
Starting point is 00:25:27 You know what I'm saying? And a producer gonna make sure gonna take the vision from the beginning and bring it to light. Right. In so many ways.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Right. Vocal production, comp and vocals, different instruments, arranging the track, who we put on the record, is the AC right in the room? Right.
Starting point is 00:25:44 You know, it's the mic. Everything is too much room, you know, is the bike, everything is too much shit, you know, but me personally, I've been blessed to come up with some great ideas. I've been blessed to collaborate with other great producers. I'm blessed to collaborate with other great artists. But one thing I will say about me, I said it earlier, we win so much, you would think this shit is normal. I tell people every day, and I think I told you before, let me see you do it.
Starting point is 00:26:17 You understand what I'm saying? Nobody can do what Nori do because you special. That's right. That people can be flattered and try to clone you and try to duplicate you. Yeah, it's bad for them. But they know who's the... I'm special. I'm nothing.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Nothing. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yes, yes. When it come down to making music, one of the greatest that ever did it. Yes. I take no talk back.
Starting point is 00:26:42 If you think I'm going to wait for somebody to bring me a flower or a cake with candles... Right. Oh, but we'll give you your flowers. I'll be waiting for a long... No, no, no. I know you talk back. If you think I'm going to wait for somebody to bring me a flower or a cake with candles. Right. But we'll give you your flowers. I'll be waiting for a long time. No, no, no. I know you got nothing.
Starting point is 00:26:50 The reason why I say that is because I want to let the young world know, too. Don't wait for nobody to give you your props and respect. Every true hustler, every real winner. Man, if you watch their work ethic, they ain't even got time to hear what you're talking about. I work so much. If I told you how my day started today, I got here.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Like, I literally, when you text me, say, you know, when you say I'm running a little late, I was like, thank God, because I still ain't done. I still ain't done doing what I'm doing over here. Right, right, right, yeah. Listen, I'm a hustler. That over here. Right, right, right, yeah. This is real. I'm a hustler.
Starting point is 00:27:25 That's real. Like, again, like, if you don't know that by now, please stay away from me. You see what I'm saying? Like, I protect my energy. You see what I'm saying? Yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Nah, this is beautiful. Let's give it to them. Where the flowers at, man? Let's give them flowers. Oh shit, I got flowers. Oh shit, y'all got flowers. This is sick. Nah. Where that at, Mr. Lee I got flowers. This is sick. Where that Mr. Lee?
Starting point is 00:27:50 Oh it's behind the steroids guy. You know Collin we don't know what our show is about. Giving people their flowers while they alive. To your face. Tell you how great you are. You know what I'm saying? And you are special. You are great. Literally flowers. You know I'm saying and you are special you are great This is beautiful man, and you know saying I appreciate that man means a lot to me but I just want everybody
Starting point is 00:28:25 To know out there In the world Like If I listen To The ones that don't want To show love And give us flowers
Starting point is 00:28:36 I would have been Cut my wrist I never ever Took my time To listen to any How can I say Distortion Have I heard it before Of course But if I actually I never ever took my time to listen to any, how can I say, distortion. Have I heard it before?
Starting point is 00:28:47 Of course. Right. But if I actually listened to it and took my time, I would've cut my wrist. So you're saying you don't wake up in the morning and look at comments and get- No, no, no. Comments don't bother me.
Starting point is 00:28:58 You can say whatever you want. That's not even real. You know what I'm saying? I live in a real life. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know what I mean? I don't, I don't, I don't. That's why you never heard me on the.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Because one time I did read your comments when you and your wife was working out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And she said, Kyle, you don't need that shit. I was dying, man. I can't lie. No, no, no. That's a legendary clip. You can do it.
Starting point is 00:29:19 I posted that shit up. I'm like, why I post that shit up? You know what I'm saying? Me and my wife, we're best friends. And it's like, just to show you. I even post that up. That was beautiful. They make me, none of that bothers me.
Starting point is 00:29:34 You know what I'm saying? What I'm trying to say, and the reason why I'm saying this because, you know, this is a new world, Noreen. And this new world moves so fast. Like I literally was working all day on a shoot, right? Right. So I had my phone down for, like, four hours. In that four hours I went on my phone, so much shit happened.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Like, all type of shit. I'm like, wow, what the fuck's going on? I was drained of so much shit happening. What I'm saying is at the end of the day is You got to protect your energy And if you look at every big winner and every hustler You know the story Karis once said it before he said if you look at The person that you look up to and know what the shit they went through to get where they at KRS said that that shit touched me because it's real Like if you think about the trials and tribulations
Starting point is 00:30:26 and how people tearing somebody down, trying to stop them, but the ones that overcome that and became the biggest, now all of a sudden it's all love. Well, guess what? The only way to make it to that level is you got to be focused and don't give a fuck and keep winning.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Because there's always more love than distortion. You know what I'm saying? I'm grateful for all the love, man. I got the best fans in the world. My fans, we have a connection that's just truly unbelievable. My support system is truly unbelievable. Because it seems like, I'm sorry for cutting you off, but it seems like it kind of started from Snapchat,
Starting point is 00:31:06 like with this whole new different- The social media side of it, right. Social media copy. Kyle has already been a legend. He already been doing it before that. But it was like, everyone, to tell you the truth, I'm going to speak honestly, everyone was kind of taking Snapchat as a joke at first, right? And then it was like, you just kept doing it and it was like, you know, fan love and all that.
Starting point is 00:31:22 And then it kind of turned you into a social media giant outside of just making hit records as well. Do you think that that was something that helped out? And that you helped change social media as well? Yeah, yeah, you did. All I'm doing every day is being me. Right. If it's Snapchat, Instagram, if it's Drink Champs,
Starting point is 00:31:41 it's me at dinner, me at my crib. All I know how to do is be me. And what happened with social media is the same way when you post a promo to your show, it brings awareness of the show's greatness if it's good. So every time you post your promo, it's always exciting. Y'all know what y'all doing, and we can't wait to see it. Well, that's the same thing with Khaled. I'm only going to give you greatness.
Starting point is 00:32:09 And that's just me being me. You know what I'm saying? So what happened was before the social media, Khaled been doing his thing. I've been in this game for a long time. I'm blessed. And you've been the same person the whole time. Right. I mean, he knows me.
Starting point is 00:32:22 What did you just say? You've been the same person the whole time. Was the mic on? Let whole time. The whole time. Is the mic on? Let me guess, the mic cut off, right? There's distortion, right? No, we got it. No, we can attest to that.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I know that. And we, like I said, it's always, I'm so grateful for my support and love. But what I'm saying is at the end of the day is when social media, you're supposed to use this to bring awareness to your greatness. To put a smile on somebody's face. It could be a picture.
Starting point is 00:32:52 You might put a smile on somebody's face. Don't use this to tear somebody down. Me, I got to get up every day to take care of my family. I got to take care of my vision. I got to take care of my health. I got to take care of my family. I gotta take care of my vision. I gotta take care of my health. I gotta take care of my future. I gotta make sure my kids is forever. So if I'm gonna take one second of the day
Starting point is 00:33:15 to tear somebody down, that'd be crazy. You see what I'm saying? When I could've used that one second and embraced some love. Don't get it twisted. We all human. Right. I don't want to sound like I'm the perfect fucking.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Nobody is. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, I've grown. Right. I've learned. I've progressed. I have more experience. I'm always speaking from experience.
Starting point is 00:33:44 Right. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm telling you, you know, I was blessed to grow. Right. You know what I mean? At one point, you got to take your shit to the next level. Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:33:57 Fuck it. I'm talking too much, right? Nah, nah. What are you talking about? Nah, nah, nah. You got to relax on me. What kind of paddock is that? Oh, yeah, this is a special one.
Starting point is 00:34:07 This, um, I ain't trying to stunt. You brought this up. Please stunt. You brought this up. No, no, no, please, please. This is a million on the wrist for sure. For sure. But this is like Rose Ghost Protect factory diamonds.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Okay. I love watches. I love sneakers. I love watches. I collect them. You wore that the night you got your star. Yeah, I actually got it that day. That day? Yeah, I got it that day, so it was special.
Starting point is 00:34:34 Let me be clear, I got it at a retail price, meaning as in, but this is an investment. I don't want to go into that because I feel like I'm starting out. No, no, no reason to that. but this is an investment. I don't want to go into that because I feel like I'm standing on another thing. No, I'm just saying, but at the end of the day, it was a blessing to reward myself, and it's worth something, what I'm trying to say. I rewarded myself, paid 200 with a 200, I forgot what I paid, and it's worth a half.
Starting point is 00:34:58 There's a return on that investment. Of course, I'm going to have my, I got to talk my shit, you know, it's Khaled on Drink Champs, and it's a milli. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I gotta talk my shit, you know, it's Khaled on Drink Champs and it's a milli. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, no. No, no, listen. And I could have brought the, I could have brought the three milli one.
Starting point is 00:35:13 But I wanted to be, you know, the pinning with the glasses. I kept it, you know what I'm saying, like a vibe. You know what I'm saying? No, but, no, there's nothing wrong with that. You know what I'm saying? I don't want to be on here like, yo, you know what I'm saying? Like, God did the biggest album in the game. Remember, I told you, I promise you.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Anybody act up, I'll let another Drake go. Anybody act up, I'll let a hoe go upon your head on another. Anybody act up, I'll let the 21s go, the babies. No, more. Trust me. Like, this album, God Did, is one of those albums. The album's called God Did, but I want to remind you, this God Did is one of those albums, the album's called God Did, but I want to remind you, this God Did.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Right. So I need you to understand, overstand what I'm saying. Like, it's out of my hands. Like, what's happening on this album is, and I'm excited too because I got to work with a lot of new people. Right. Right. Like, the new, young, you know, God-willing icons.
Starting point is 00:36:07 The Rob Waves. I mean, I work with Rob. I mean, I didn't get a chance to work with him. He was in the studio hanging out. I want to work with him. I want him on my album. He from Miami, right? No, he's from St. Peter, Tampa.
Starting point is 00:36:19 I think St. Peter. Okay, Florida. I'm sure he's in that area, but he's a Florida boy. As a matter of fact, he's got an album coming out. Make sure you get that. I'm a big fan of his right I want to work with him pick him up, but let's talk about the star Congratulations on I was there too that day I was there to celebrate you I felt I felt so honored to appreciate that man I mean yeah, yeah, but how did you feel like um it felt because my queen was there and my kids was there.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Right. You know, I didn't expect to get that. Like, it wasn't something like I was like, you know, for them to honor me, you know what I'm saying, on the music side of things was a super blessing because that's something my kids can see every time, anytime. You know what I'm saying? That's something my fans can see every time, anytime. You know what I'm saying? That's something my fans can see. You know what I mean? So I look at that star. I want that star to represent, you know,
Starting point is 00:37:12 the light from the star to shine on other people because we all stars. You know what I'm saying? And that star meant a lot to me because it was a blessing from God. And I was saying to myself at that time when I got it, I was working blessing from God. And I was saying to myself, at that time when I got it, I was working on God Did. And I'm like, yo, we about to set up the new chapter.
Starting point is 00:37:32 The new chapter of more wins, more blessings, more success. And like I said, this is the 13th album. You know what I'm saying? Like, I got some big, besides music, some big entrepreneurship that I've been working on that's going to come to light this year. You light this year you know saying I got my own sneaker release coming out with Jordan this year you know so all that stuff happening back to back right so it's like what a
Starting point is 00:38:01 way to start off the new chapter right Right. You know what I'm saying? By getting that star. Yeah. It's like, my kids get to see that. Right. And they was there to see it. That's fire. That's legacy. Yeah, it's legacy.
Starting point is 00:38:12 I mean, you know what I'm saying? And Hov and Pup and Joe beside me. Yes, that was fire. Taking a picture by the star with my kids and my queen. That was fire. Come on, bro. Like, when you look at that picture, let me guess, you ain't see it, right? Yeah. You ain't see it?
Starting point is 00:38:28 No, no, no. I'm just saying. Like, when you look at that picture, let me guess, you ain't see it, right? Yeah. You ain't see it? No, no, no, I'm just saying, like, what is this? That was me, Puff, Daddy, Joe, and Hov. And Kevin and his kids getting a star. Hov, Puff, Hov and Puff and Joe beside Calvin while he was getting a star with my kids there and my queen. Come on, bro. I cried that night. And matter of fact, Lil Baby called me that night, too. He's like, yo, we was talking about staying alive. I think Jeezy was there, too.
Starting point is 00:38:52 Jeezy was there. Yeah, a lot of people came. I remember that day because I went back to the hotel. Lil Baby called me, congratulated me on the star, and I really appreciated that. And at the same time, we was talking about staying alive. We were talking about getting this record done.. Man shout out to Drake and Lil Baby again because this record is one of those. What's your biggest record to date you think it is? Is it the Justin
Starting point is 00:39:13 Bieber song? I mean that's about to go diamond. That's definitely one of my biggest but it's too many Nori. Let me just help you. Let me help you out. No, no, no. See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I can't do this shit. I'm only speaking facts. Let's go. The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration in the United States. Recipients have done the improbable, showing immense bravery and sacrifice in the name of something much bigger than themselves. This medal is for the men who went down that day.
Starting point is 00:39:47 It's for the families of those who didn't make it. I'm J.R. Martinez. I'm a U.S. Army veteran myself, and I'm honored to tell you the stories of these heroes on the new season of Medal of Honor, Stories of Courage from Pushkin Industries and iHeart Podcast. From Robert Blake, the first black sailor to be awarded the medal, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice.
Starting point is 00:40:14 These are stories about people who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor, going above and beyond the call of duty. You'll hear about what they did, what it meant, and what their stories tell us about the nature of courage and sacrifice. Listen to Medal of Honor on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A lot of times the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding, but the price has gone up. So now I only buy one.
Starting point is 00:40:52 The demand curve in action. And that's just one of the things we'll be covering on Everybody's Business from Bloomberg Businessweek. I'm Max Chavkin. And I'm Stacey Vanek-Smith. Every Friday, we will be diving into the biggest stories in business, taking a look at what's going on, why it matters, and how it shows up in our everyday lives. With guests like Businessweek editor Brad Stone, sports reporter Randall Williams, and consumer spending expert Amanda Mull, we'll take you inside the boardrooms, the backrooms, even the signal chats that make our economy tick. Hey, I want to learn about VeChain. I want to buy some blockchain or whatever it is that they're
Starting point is 00:41:29 doing. So listen to Everybody's Business on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The American West with Dan Flores is the latest show from the MeatEater Podcast Network, hosted by me, writer and historian Dan Flores, and brought to you by Velvet Buck. This podcast looks at a West available nowhere else. Each episode, I'll be diving into some of the lesser known histories of the West. I'll then be joined in conversation by guests such as Western historian, Dr. Randall Williams and best-selling author and meat eater founder Stephen Ranella. I'll correct my kids now and then where they'll say when cave people were here and I'll say it seems like the ice age people that were here didn't have a real affinity for
Starting point is 00:42:16 caves. So join me starting Tuesday, May 6th, where we'll delve into stories of the West and come to understand how it helps inform the ways in which we experience the region today. Listen to The American West with Dan Flores on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And it's going to take us to heal us. It's Mental Health Awareness Month, and on a recent episode of Just Heal with Dr. J, the incomparable Taraji P. Henson stopped by to discuss how she's discovered peace on her journey. So what I'm hearing you saying is healing is a part of us also reconnecting to our childhood in some sort. You said I look how youthful I look because I never let that little girl inside of me die. I go outside and run outside with the dogs.
Starting point is 00:43:05 I still play like a kid. I laugh. You know, I love jokes. I love funny. I love laughing. I laugh at myself. I don't take myself too seriously. That's the stuff that keeps you young and stops you from being so hard.
Starting point is 00:43:19 To hear this and more things on the journey of healing, you can listen to Just Heal with Dr. J from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. AT&T, connecting changes everything. You know, you got records like All I Do Is Win. You know that, right?
Starting point is 00:43:41 All I Do Is Win, Wild Thoughts, I'm On One. Wait, hold on, hold on. Let me stop I do is win. Wild thoughts. I'm on one. Hold on, hold on. Let me stop you for a second. We can go right back to that. You said all I do is win and I'm so hood. You and T-Pain made so much great collaborations. I love T-Pain. Why y'all ain't working together no more? I'm down. I'm down to work with him. That's fine. Yeah, I'm definitely down to work with him. I love T-Pain.
Starting point is 00:44:07 What we've made together is nobody can ever duplicate that ever in life. You know, I can't... Let me just think of some records off my head. I'm So Hood, Go Hard, All I Do Is Win. He wrote Out Here Grinding. Oh, shit. You know what I'm saying? And We Takin' Over, too, right?
Starting point is 00:44:22 No, We Takin' Over, that's Akon. Well, I think he wrote The Hook, though. Oh, I don't know if he wrote that one. I wasn't in... You know what I'm saying? And we taking over, too, right? No, we taking over. That's A-Kon. Well, I think he wrote the hook, though. Oh, I don't know if he wrote that one. I wasn't in his, you know, that's their business. Right, right, right. You know what I'm saying? But as far as out here grinding, I know he wrote that for A-Kon to sing on my album. But, you know, records like All I Do, it's so many.
Starting point is 00:44:38 Yeah, that's how it is. It's so many. Yeah. But he's so talented. You know, his melody game. He's from Florida. Yeah. you know what I'm saying? He's special and what we've done together is unbelievable. So I'm forever got love for T-Pain, forever.
Starting point is 00:44:53 That's right, let's give him a round of applause for that. Yeah. But what we were talking about before that. You talking about, let me help you with records. Yes, yes. All I do is win, I'm so good. We taking over. I'm on one for free. Pop star.
Starting point is 00:45:09 Grease. Staying alive. Wild thoughts. I mean, fucking 13 albums. Each album had at least three or four hits on there. Like, you know what I'm saying? It's too many to name. Like, I'm going to be real with you. I could put out a fucking greatest hits right now.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Easily. Matter of fact, it would have to be a triple CD. It would have to be a triple CD with all my hits. Yo, Nori, I got hits. Like, Nori, I'm going to be real with you. Like, it's too many. Can't, can't, can't, can't. And this might be reaching a little bit.
Starting point is 00:45:43 I don't know on which side. How about Dr. Dre? Oh, no, no. Dr. Dre's the legend. Come on. No, I'm a student. Oh, okay. What were you trying to say?
Starting point is 00:45:51 No, no, no. Don't go. No, no, no, no, no, no. Dr. Dre is a legend. I've never worked with Dre. No, I've always talked about it, and I want to work with Dre. Wow. My inspiration is Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Puff Daddy,
Starting point is 00:46:08 Quincy Jones, and Barry Gordy. When you want to get into the depth of who I studied as a student. Right. Those people, I get on my knees and do this. You know what I'm saying? I don't do that for nobody.
Starting point is 00:46:21 Those are, that's, come on, those are the gods. Right, yeah. Those are the gods. You know what I'm saying? So, you that for nobody those are that's that's come on. Those are the gods Those are the gods I'm saying so, you know, I mean those are the ones reason why I'm doing what I'm doing today Those are the cards. So what would a DJ Khaled and dr. Dre record sound like? man, it's crazy cuz I have um
Starting point is 00:46:42 You know on this album this is God's crazy that you brought that up because... Fuck it, I'm just going to say it. I text him. And I say, yo, Dre, is this your number? No, because I've been talking to him a long time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, I don't think he hit back to like two weeks. And when he hit back, I caught the COVID. Oh.
Starting point is 00:47:05 So, I didn't notice it for like three weeks because I was fucked up and I was like, you know, unread messages and when you got the COVID, you ain't trying to,
Starting point is 00:47:11 you ain't trying to check your phone, you're just trying to make sure you're good. You know, boom, boom, and I was like, he hit back.
Starting point is 00:47:19 But I didn't want to hit him when I had the COVID because I didn't have the coward energy. Okay. Because I said, if I get a chance to work with him, I got to make sure I can FaceTime him, go to my studio, and be like, check this out.
Starting point is 00:47:31 You know what I'm saying? Right, you wasn't yourself. It's crazy because I have something. But it might be for the next time. It might be for this time. I don't know. I didn't reach. I didn't talk to him.
Starting point is 00:47:44 I reached out. He hit this. I don't know. I didn't reach I didn't I didn't talk to him I reached out he hit back. I caught the covey and then I'm trying to mentally Build my energy up to say let me reach it cuz I he's like he's like that, you know He's the God core so it's like I want to make sure I'm sending him the right one and this was for this album Yeah, I'm still working. I'm like I'm'm coming on August 26th, but you know the rules. Last minute magic is the best. Right. And Hov did. What I'm saying is, so, I'm just telling you a story because Dre's like the god.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Yeah. You know what I'm saying? So I was planning to plan something, to have this idea. You know what I'm saying? Then I'm like, maybe should I wait? You know what I'm saying? I'm patient. Me, I'm patient. Right.
Starting point is 00:48:35 You know what I'm saying? Because I always say to myself, I'm always just getting started. You know what I'm saying? Like I said, I wouldn't make 13 albums if I didn't have that energy to say I'm just getting started. You know what I'm saying? But you know what I mean? Yeah, that's the king. You know what I'm saying? Like I said, I wouldn't make 13 albums if I didn't have that energy to say I'm just getting started. You know what I'm saying? But, you know what I mean? Yeah, that's the king. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:48:50 Yeah. Shout out to Smitty that's part of his team, I think. Yeah, from Miami, right? Yeah. Nah, I'm trying to picture how it would sound. I'm into it. Straight out of Compton. It's D-R-A.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Another one. Hit it, hit it, hit it, hey. I'm trying to tell you, boy, it's going to be crazy now. You know we ain't going to play. You know that. How long is the process to make an album like this? For me, I love to start recording music in November. My birthday is November 20th.
Starting point is 00:49:23 That's how you start. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Even when I put an album out, I'll be like, I ain't doing another one. You know, we all say that. You're a fourth quarter type of dude. You like to drop in the fourth quarter.
Starting point is 00:49:32 No, no, no. I don't like to drop in the fourth quarter. I like to drop summer. Summer, that's these old days. But what I'm saying, I like to start working. Okay. Every time it starts getting a little cold,
Starting point is 00:49:40 in Miami, it don't really get cold. I got a little breeze here. That's our great weather time. Right, right. That great weather makes me want to go in the studio. I don't know what it is. I start getting the itch, and the ideas start coming. And I always only focus on the beats, the production, the music.
Starting point is 00:49:54 That's the foundation. The sonics and the ideas. I don't think about recording with not one artist. Right. I only focus on the production. Who I'm going to collaborate. What ideas am I going to bring to light? What am I, I put all that together.
Starting point is 00:50:11 Right. And then I start cutting. You see what I'm saying? Because, and that's how my album titles come out too, because it's got to have a certain sound. So when I work with the artists, when they're in the studio, I don't just record artists. They say I got a feature.
Starting point is 00:50:24 I got to make a great song with them. That's in the studio, I don't just record artists, they say I got a feature, I gotta make a great song with them. That's what I do, I make great songs. So I'ma bring the best out of every artist I ever work with. So when I work, this album, I documented a lot of the process. I documented a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:50:37 I said, you know what, I'ma give the fans something special. Not just the album, like, I'ma load them up with shit they've never seen. Because you're the best promoter on the planet. Let's just the album. Like, I'm going to load them up with shit that never seemed. Because you're the best promoter on the planet. Let's just be clear. I mean, you know. No one can promote a college record like you. Like, I kid you not. It's not just a record.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Anything I do. Anything you do, yeah. It's because. I agree. And I put you in this category, too, Nori. And I mean this with respect. And you, too, you've been like. Guys like us, they don't just give it to us.
Starting point is 00:51:05 We got to work extra hard. Yes, yes. You know what I'm saying? So I work all shifts. Yes, yes, yes. I work all shifts. I wake up, I wake up out of my sleep. Right.
Starting point is 00:51:16 And I might just post something to let you know I'm coming upon your head. Yes. To let you know I'm up. Right. I don't hug no pillow, put slob all over it with the pillow with the zippers and flicking wounds all over the face. I don't do that.
Starting point is 00:51:32 You know what I'm saying? I get to it. I work hard, bro. I work hard. Yeah, so we gotta, this is a quick-forwarded game. We play, let's go a quick time with slob. Oh shit, I meant to tell you I don't wanna play this game, but go ahead.
Starting point is 00:51:44 I forgot about this, yo. This certain shit, I ain't with, but go ahead. I meant to tell you I don't want to play this game. I forgot about this show. I ain't with, but go ahead. Yeah, so if you pick both, you gotta take a sip. You gotta take a shot. So if you pick both or neither. Or neither. You gotta pick one and then there's no shot. And if you don't pick nothing, you have to drink?
Starting point is 00:51:58 Right. Bring out the whole bottle! So we're gonna do shots. Starting point is 01:14:35 It's mad long. So how long is your show, seven hours? Yeah, it could be, it could be. We gave Kanye four of them. Nah, it's too much. Yeah, you're too much. Nah, this shit is too much. No, no, we only got a couple more.

Starting point is 01:14:53 We're going to go down. Let's get back to the vibe. Go back to Primo. Go down to Primo. Oh, yeah. OK, we're Primo. OK, OK, start from there. Yeah, I would say start from there.
Starting point is 01:15:01 OK, Primo or Pete Rock? Wow. You know, first of all, let's talk about Primo and Pete Rock. Get a shot. Legends. You know, I got too much respect because as a DJ, you know, I come from DJing. I'm still one of the biggest DJs you could ever.
Starting point is 01:15:21 Right. You still DJ sometimes? Of course he does. of course you know the best that ever did it they say drunk talk you'll still go I'm one of the best that ever did it I say I'm a birthday coming up I didn't say I'm the best he's leaving room I'm one of the best and I got too much respect for the ones before me Like my birthday coming up If I could call Khaled
Starting point is 01:15:48 Khaled would do a set for me DJ talk, EFN speak please Cause you're a DJ EFN please, I don't want to speak First of all, you know me You fucking know me Don't fucking hold back Without them there's no us
Starting point is 01:16:03 No, no, no, I don't want to hear that either I want you to tell them Like you know what you was doing, but she was doing this tell them like you know We need help you like Eddie, talk to him. Eddie, by the way, Eddie, Eddie, before you say something, before you say something, whatever you eat and drink, you haven't aged a minute. God bless you, buddy. No, but God bless you, you haven't aged. I've known these brothers for 27 years.
Starting point is 01:16:38 27 years. We're all from the gutter right here. I'm from Miami-Dade County, 305. This is my home. You're walking and playing with me. I'm from the gutter right here. I'm from Miami-Dade County, 305. This is my home. I've been waiting in the 305 flag forever. And speak. I don't want to see you speak. You speak.
Starting point is 01:16:53 Hardest working DJ. Yes. Hands down. Hands down. No. Hands down. Everything. All the best promotions.
Starting point is 01:17:01 Right. Yes. We was on the streets. Tell her about me on them fucking tables. Oh, the table. I can on the streets with y'all. Tell them about me on them fucking tables. Oh the tables. I can't do what you do, ever. You're nasty.
Starting point is 01:17:10 We're a different madhouse. I'm a sound killer. And, and, you know I'm nice. No, I'm nice. EFF tell them. But hold up, but hold up. I'm nice. Hold up, hold up. Besides nice. I'm nice!
Starting point is 01:17:25 Hold up, hold up. Besides nice. No! Whoop your ass! Besides nice, I witnessed in Jamaica, him doing a legit sound clash in Jamaica. Wow. Murdering it. Wow.
Starting point is 01:17:37 Norey, I've been killing sound my whole life. You want me to keep killing sound? I do. Let me tell you something, what he brought up is crazy because I want you to hear what he said. I come from the mud, which is a beautiful place. No, it is. I actually have more fun in the mud than I have now. I know that sounds crazy.
Starting point is 01:18:00 It does sound crazy. But I'm from the mud to fucking marble floors and limestone. Mm-hmm. All right? And what he's saying is, it goes back to what I was trying to tell you, and we have to let the youth know, you have to progress. You have to grow. So how I kill sound now is by my albums, my anthems singles my body of work that's my new
Starting point is 01:18:29 way of killing sound you don't want me to go back to them days where Calla was was I'm a sound killer good I kill sound these are your original dub plates that's what I'm trying to tell you. I know I don't think you understand. I kill sound. Not like, like, like, no, I kill sound. Like, no, he's not playing. He was this. He was this.
Starting point is 01:18:56 No, he didn't. Am I playing with you? No, no. I kill sound. Like, you can't recover from the type of killing I do. Like, I don't want to just turn into something. I love everybody. Without me being a sound boy,
Starting point is 01:19:16 I wouldn't make who DJ Khaled is today. That's why if you hear my music, now I listen to my music different after I told you I kill sound. Listen to my music different now because I took that talent into my albums. If you notice, all my records have the biggest hooks. When you hear it on the radio, it's always standing out. If it's in a club, if it's a collaboration, it's just unbelievable.
Starting point is 01:19:41 That's how I used to cut dub. That's how I used to kill sound. When I used to be on stage, it's not only having the dub play, it's how you bring it in. It's the talk game. People don't know what dub plays are. Let's pretend that nobody knows what that is. It's like when I got a freestyle for you.
Starting point is 01:19:57 The only difference is I would tell you to kill sound. I would say, what, what, what? I would be like, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, instead of what, what, what, what, what I would be like kill kill kill kill kill kill kill instead of what what what what what? Wow, it's called kill sound I'm a sound boy. I'm a sound gone. I am a sound legend. Well, I am a sound king I take no talk back to your history ask anyone ask the streets I'll see the trenches they know me the streets know the trenches, they know me. The streets know my fucking name.
Starting point is 01:20:25 Let's make some noise for that. And we're still drinking for that. Let's drink for that. I don't think you understand that. I gotta go back to this. I can't fucking talk. This is smooshy. Y'all got me on some Japanese whiskey.
Starting point is 01:20:37 Like, Japanese De Leon. Japanese De Leon, dude. Uh-oh. I love everybody. You know that. So we established Primo Pete Rock. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We love everybody. So we established Primo Pete Rock. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The next one is Illmatic or Doggy Style.
Starting point is 01:20:50 Wow, come on. Those two albums are probably two of the top five biggest albums ever. Oh, thank you so much. A pizza to get this liquor on. Now you a real one Maybe he made himself Wow Question
Starting point is 01:21:20 Doggy style Maddox two of my favorite albums Wow probably two of my top five Albums ever created in life Illmatic was like I couldn't believe what I was hearing Right Especially as a DJ And as a producer
Starting point is 01:21:35 A young producer I couldn't believe the shit I was hearing Right And then the lyrics And the way it resonated with me Then I heard Doggy Style I was like oh my fucking god Right When I heard Doggy Style, I was like, oh my fucking God, man.
Starting point is 01:21:45 When I heard Doggy Style, I was like, I never heard an album with a sound. Dr. Dre did the whole album. So that's when I, the creation of the sound of a whole album. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
Starting point is 01:22:01 You didn't like the sit for us? Hop and Scott. You know, that's about all. You know, those anthems on that one. It was cinematic. It was so, Doggy Sound and Illmatic was like my two top five albums of all time.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Yes, it's up there with me too. No, for sure. And I love Snoop Dogg. I love Nas. You know that. Yes. Can I divert from from quick time real quick who what um where do you think defined your musical taste
Starting point is 01:22:31 New Orleans Orlando Miami you know I used to live in North Carolina too so that's a part of your trajectory yeah but I'm a Florida boy I mean I was like my whole I was raised in Florida right right but my parents you know my inspiration come from my parents okay my mom and dad you know what I love about my mom and dad they work seven days a week they never took one day off they still found time to raise me and my brother and my sister and show us so much love and let us know how how beautiful God is and that hard work is so important right so I got to watch them every single day work. Selling clothes out their trunk.
Starting point is 01:23:10 They used to put the little, what's that little pouch in front of you? The fanny pack? The fanny pack with the money? They used to put it on me when I was five years old. That's how they would sell clothes in the flea market. I would put it in my pocket. But I was raised seeing this shit. Wow.
Starting point is 01:23:25 So they were my inspiration of taking care of us and still providing for us. Right. When I seen that at 10 years old, I remember at around 10 years old, I started saying, man, this is unbelievable. At 10 years old, you're in New Orleans. No, no, no. I was born in New Orleans, but I immediately went to Florida. Because didn't you work in a record store? No, but in the middle of Florida, I used to go back and forth to New Orleans.
Starting point is 01:23:51 Okay, okay, okay. So I would move back for a year or two years or three years and come back to Florida. Got it, got it. You know what I'm saying? So I used to work at Odyssey Records where Lil Wayne got signed. Right, right. Birdman met Lil Wayne while I was working at Odyssey Records. Lil Wayne said that thing on Dream Champs.
Starting point is 01:24:05 He talked about it. Yes, yes. So I was the DJ at Odyssey Records. Yeah. And Lil Wayne used to come in all the time. That's incredible. And Birdman used to come with an old Benz. Back in the day, it was a new Benz.
Starting point is 01:24:16 But the old Benz, him and Slim used to come with CDs and tapes. And I'd be behind the desk DJing, and we'd drop a CD and tape before they had the deal. So they drop the CDs and tapes I would put them in the rack and it would sell out in 30 minutes and I would call Burban and I'm like yo it's sold out and the owner of the record store was called Gary from Odyssey so they would pull back up and I would tell them to bring more CDs and tapes and I would tell them like yo record companies are calling up asking me if this shit is real and I'm like it's selling out in 20-30 minutes like the minute I put it on the record sold out and at that time it was BG
Starting point is 01:24:54 it was BG and um Juvenile BG and then Juvenile and then Wayne got signed. Right. So I was blessed to see that and I used to record, I used to make beats in Master P's studio. This man trying to fuck us up. I never seen a show like this. The show can't help you. Give it to the crowd. I've never seen a show like this. Give it to the crowd. Give it to the crowd, Boris. Give it to the crowd. Give it to the crowd, Boris.
Starting point is 01:25:32 Turn it all the way. Boris, he said turn it all the way. He said turn it the way. He said turn it the way. It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good.
Starting point is 01:25:40 It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good. It's good. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I always like I thought he was just trying to smoke a cigarette. Damn, bro, what the fuck you put in that shit? Nah, man, come on. Is that gumbo? Nah, I'm fucked up, man.
Starting point is 01:26:34 No, no, Jame, I'm fucking cool, bro. Look at me. That's all we're gonna know. Yeah, man. That was L. That was L, my brand new one. We be putting, we got this machine, but we be putting mints in there. Jesus Christmas.
Starting point is 01:26:47 This our first time putting gumbo in there. Fuck. And it was not a good decision. Oh, that's gumbo in the water. In the water. We be putting mints in there. Holy shit, that gumbo changed the trajectory. That changed everything.
Starting point is 01:27:01 Gumbo changed everything on that one. I was coughing from here. Come on, man. I don't even smoke. Come on. You're the biggest in the game. Absolutely. We want to give you your flowers, your pizza, your love. We even love Chef Melissa.
Starting point is 01:27:17 Yeah, I love her too. Yes, because that's how big you are. We actually know. But there was a footage at one point of you trying. They tried to get you to go on this elevator shit downstairs. And you was like, no way. You said, I'm the father of a shit. Are you talking about in Mexico?
Starting point is 01:27:37 It was like a bridge going over like an open mountain or some shit. You know, me, I ain't playing with my life. It is like, there's certain things that you have to go through in life, and it might be out of your control when you got to deal with it at that moment. Right. But I'm on vacation. The band told me he wanted me to ride a four-wheeler through a bridge that looked like it's hanging by a string you did some calculations right you saw my yo go through I'm like yo listen bro like I'm on vacation bro I'm
Starting point is 01:28:16 not trying to do no shit like this you know the queen want a four-wheeler the team want a four-wheeler I ain't asked to go across a fucking canyon that's 100 feet in the sky i'm not doing that i was explaining to him like yo i'm the father of asad now i'm the father of asad and along that's right so i'm telling myself why would i do this tell me i'm trying to explain to myself why would i do this so of course it's not me being scared It's called being smart Yeah smart yes You know what I'm saying And
Starting point is 01:28:48 I wouldn't have gotten that I know people enjoy that clip Right But it's a real life lesson If you think about it Right You know what I'm saying People sometimes do the cool
Starting point is 01:28:57 Thinking it's the cool thing And not knowing Being doing the smart thing Is better than doing Right The thinking the cool thing Right Cause the smart thing is better than doing the thinking the cool thing. Right. Because the cool thing is called being smart.
Starting point is 01:29:09 Right. Being safe. Yes. Being blessed. Being alive. Being alive. Staying alive. Protecting your blessings.
Starting point is 01:29:18 Yes. Knowing I'm fucked up. I'm going to take a shot to that. I'm going to take a shot to that. I'm taking a shot to that. I'm taking a shot. I never seen no shit like this in my life. You want to take a shot to that? No, no, no. I'm going to take a shot for you though, Kyle.
Starting point is 01:29:33 We've got no more Quick Time Slaps. We can get off. Get off the Quick Time Slap. We done. The last one? Oh, yeah. The last one. The last one is legit.
Starting point is 01:29:41 The last one. We've got to do this one. It's not a trick question, but everyone thinks it's a trick question. It's a trick question. It's a trick question. yeah, the last one. Oh, the last one. The last one is legit. Oh, the last one. We got to do this one. It's not a trick question, but everyone thinks it's a trick question. Loyalty or respect?
Starting point is 01:29:54 Let me take my glasses off. I would say both, but I want to break down respect and loyalty. Loyalty, and Joel Santana said something beautiful on here. Yes. Where he said, you know, you got to know the definition of loyalty or stupidity, right? Right, right, right. You know, you can't fall for being stupidity. Right.
Starting point is 01:30:19 You know, and people try throwing the loyalty for you to do something stupidity. Right. So we're not with that. Now, if you're loyal to somebody that's real and loyal respects back, loyalty is called, really, I call it a family ting. Right. You know, being family and only way you can have loyalty and be a family is to have respect. Yes. Right.
Starting point is 01:30:44 Without the respect, you can't have loyalty. It's hand in hand. So you can't have no dumbness trying to be cool, be in loyalty, and ruin your whole life. Now, if you have respect and you have loyalty, it's going to level out perfect because it wouldn't be no stupidity. Right. You know what I'm saying? So you need both. Right.
Starting point is 01:31:06 We need a drink. Yeah, we need a drink. It's'm saying? So you need both. Right. We need a drink. We need a drink. It's the last shot. We need a drink. We need both. Come on, Kyle. Here's the last shot. You have that last one.
Starting point is 01:31:13 The last one. Come on. It's part of your head top. That's part of the question sheet? Yeah, yeah. It's part of your head top. It's the last one. It's the last one.
Starting point is 01:31:19 It's a choose one? Yeah, it's the last one. You know what we call this last shot? Part of your head top. Part of your head top. Part of your this last job? Pun your head top. Pun your head top. Pun your head top. Pun your head top.
Starting point is 01:31:28 DJ Khaled. Pun your head top. DJ Khaled. DJ Khaled. DJ Khaled. DJ Khaled. Quirk it. Now we back to the regular interview.
Starting point is 01:31:36 Can we talk about the album? Let's talk about the album. I'm ready. Let's go. Let's go. God did. You know I've been saying I'm so fucked up. God did.
Starting point is 01:31:44 God did. No, it's crazy. I never see that shit on your head. So you say you were working up to the very last inch. But how many tracks do we have right now for God? I mean, right now, you know, we in the last minute magic hour. So I don't know when this interview's coming out. Right. But today, we're in the last minute magic hour. They asked me to turn in the album in, actually, by Friday.
Starting point is 01:32:04 We say a day to Sylvia Rome and- Who's day? That day, the family. Not day, not day. Business day. The business family. The other day. The other day.
Starting point is 01:32:14 Shout out to Epic Records. Shout out to Epic. Am I talking right? I'm fucked up. No, we just- Shout out to Epic Records. We can't confuse the days. We the best music.
Starting point is 01:32:22 Shout out to Roc Nation, the family. Yes, Roc Nation. Want me to turn in the album now. The album's coming out August 26th. So I'm working on it, but there's some last minute magic that's happening and it just rumbles. Right. You know, like I said, this album is called God Did
Starting point is 01:32:35 and this is God Did. I'm telling you, man. Like, I'm not just, first of all, my track record speaks for itself. Right. Yes. This album, God's always had his hands on all my albums,
Starting point is 01:32:53 but this God did. And it's setting up the new chapter and it's just beyond special. This last minute magic is unbelievable. Not even just the last minute magic, the whole process has been unbelievable. Everybody even just the last minute magic the whole process Has been unbelievable everybody I work with gave me their a game and We're so dope with you know to get Texas people on the text or a phone call like yo Excited they're excited about what we recorded. I
Starting point is 01:33:21 Am drunk, so I don't know how I'm sounding No, Jamie. I really don't know how I'm sounding. No Jamie I really don't. So you're gonna have to get with Nori. Call the whole team. Cause I don't know if I'm sounding right. We gotta give him the hangover. I find out the final edit cause I really don't.
Starting point is 01:33:35 I swear to God I don't know what I'm saying. I'm fucked up. No it's always real talk but I don't understand like, it's like I'm floating. You're the best and this is the best. Look, you need to get this. The hangover pill. It worked right out.
Starting point is 01:33:50 Banga-da. You're good. We're going to give that to you. We'll give banga-da. Let's go. It worked right out. You're back to normal. Yeah, we got his whole bag.
Starting point is 01:33:57 You're back to normal. And then we got your whole bag. Then eat another slice of pizza. Yeah, look. There you go. Whole care package. We got a whole care package for you. Let's go. Let's go.

Starting point is 01:37:23 the incomparable Taraji P. Henson stopped by to discuss how she's discovered peace on her journey. So what I'm hearing you saying is healing is a part of us also reconnecting to our childhood in some sort. You said I look how youthful I look because I never let that little girl inside of me die. I go outside and run outside with the dogs. I still play like a kid. I laugh, you know, I love jokes. I love funny. I love laughing.
Starting point is 01:37:52 I laugh at myself. I don't take myself too seriously. That's the stuff that keeps you young and stops you from being so hard. Starting point is 01:38:39 And I love performing the record too. But, making the record, but when you perform the record and see the response to energy, it goes back to making the record. You know, making the record is like, you know, when I make records, I don't ask nobody if you like it or don't like it. I don't, I don't accept no opinions. I think that's the key to my success. That I never accepted anybody's opinion. Even if it was good. Elaborate.
Starting point is 01:39:12 What do you mean by that? How are you getting the opinion to start with? I'm going to be real sure. A lot of people don't hear my music. Because you don't want any opinions. I don't let people hear my music until it comes out. And if you heard it, it's because you were recording with me. Right. That's what I'm saying. You're not trying to get an opinion. No, no, no. I don't ask for an my music until it come out. If you heard it, it's because you was recording with me. Right.
Starting point is 01:39:25 That's what I'm saying. You're not trying to get an opinion. No, no, no. I don't ask for an opinion or anything like that. This God did. Not just this album, but my whole process of making music. I love making music. I breathe, sleep, eat hip hop.
Starting point is 01:39:39 You know what I'm saying? It's my life. You know, I consider me as a father. I consider me a hip-hop dad, too. Right. That's how much I represent hip-hop. Right. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:39:50 I'm one of the flag holders. Right. So when I make my music, that's why I'm so consistent, EFN, Nori. I'm trying to put an album out every year or every year and a half because that means I'm ahead of the time. Right. Those people that take years off, they got to figure it out. Right.
Starting point is 01:40:12 They got to catch up. I'm ahead of the time. I am the sound. I am the wave. I am the sauce. Right. I am the anthem. Right.
Starting point is 01:40:23 Right. I'm the one that you come for hits for. I'm the one that you want to get a record on. Talk that talk. I'm the one that you come for hits for I'm the one that you want to get a record on I'm the one So that's why I put an album out every year I don't write I don't want to take I'm not stopping
Starting point is 01:40:38 And not just in music Like I got so many businesses about to open But let's talk about the Jordans. How about you talk about the Jordans? I mean, the Jordan release is coming out this year. We're about to announce
Starting point is 01:40:48 the date. I will say on this, Drink Champs, it's two Jordans that's coming out as official release. Because we sold like six. And the other two
Starting point is 01:40:58 will be friends and family. But yes, I have like a hundred. Right. You know what I'm saying? I'm not going to lie to you. Right. You know what I'm saying, I'm not gonna lie to you. What? I don't wanna sound like I might. Like I don't wanna keep, if you don't let me go back,
Starting point is 01:41:13 I don't wanna do this. You got a Jordan deal. That's crazy. God, that's crazy. That's crazy, that's crazy. God, real shit, real shit, that's crazy. M-Train did like. That's crazy, that's crazy.
Starting point is 01:41:22 Let me tell you something about it. Did you boogie a have leather Oh no my leather Went over budget On another level Okay The details on the shoe When it comes out Is
Starting point is 01:41:30 Is beyond amazing Wow Man I'm so grateful For that relationship With Reggie Reggie Reggie and MJ did Yes
Starting point is 01:41:40 Yes My relationship With both of them Is just special My loyalty To both of them is special. Still in the meeting. Still in the meeting. It was a dream of mine as a kid.
Starting point is 01:41:53 And I always said I was going to get a Jordan deal, and I didn't stop until I got it. Right. And even other people were trying to offer me deals. I said, I can't because my fans know that I wear Jordans and not just that. If I did that deal, it don't even make sense. Right. Because I really don't love that. No disrespect. No disrespect.
Starting point is 01:42:13 Even if it was a number behind it, a money bag, whatever. That's authenticity. Jordan, he's my inspiration. He's one of the guys I look up to. You know what I'm saying? I told you Barry Gordy, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Pup Daddy you know shout out Joe Crack and then as far as like Michael Jordan
Starting point is 01:42:30 he's also one of my inspirations too to do what I'm doing today so for him to give me my deal Reggie and MJ you know officially gave me my deal man it was a blessing not only did I get my deal my son had his own Jordanordan line wow that's
Starting point is 01:42:47 amazing like come on man like that's fire look at god that's great look at god god did god did yeah i'm on that japanese whiskey whatever you call it japanese delio look at god did that's one thing i know i'm focused god. I'm By the way, it's not like you just got Jordans because you could have you could have you could have had a pair Jordan But you like them. This is pretty this is beautiful that you got I remember my first time seeing that was at the home of the walk of fame and Yeah, and and you warm and I was just like, those is really, really, really dope sneakers. Not just because you got a deal with Jordan,
Starting point is 01:43:29 but you designed this? Yeah, so me, the Jordan team, and the We The Best team. We The Best and Jordan. That's why y'all was in the meeting. Still in the meeting? Still in the meeting.
Starting point is 01:43:39 We designed it together. You know one thing about me, teamwork will make a dream work. Make a dream work. I was selling Kiko, I was telling Jamie. Is Kitko here? Yeah, Kitko's here. Shout out to Kitko, DJ Nasty, shout out to Nasty.
Starting point is 01:43:50 I was telling Mox, I was telling Ivan, I was telling everybody on my team. Their title, I changed their title this week. What? Head of Everything. Instead of like Head of Marketing, Head of This, Head of BP, Head of Everything. When you work with Calvin and We the Best in the head of BP, head of everything. When you work with Calvin and We The Best in the Family, you're head of everything. That's what we doing here.
Starting point is 01:44:12 We're not like these other people. You know, head of BP, head of marketing, head of this, senior or vice or, you know, intern, head of everything! That's what happens at We The Best. Head of every fucking thing. I think Boris, you're head of everything.
Starting point is 01:44:31 You know what I'm saying? You know, because the thing is that I noticed with my team, my team is so focused if they have to turn into somebody else's responsibility,
Starting point is 01:44:44 they do it that quick. Right, right. It's fire. Like if it have to turn into somebody else's responsibility, they do it that quick. Right, right. It's fire. Like, if it's, like, marketing or if it's, like, whatever, management, everybody jump into that mode. We got to get it done. There's no excuse of being great. If you want to be great, you got to put in the work, period. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:45:02 And my team is my family. Like, the way we work at we the best is a family thing and um i love my my brothers and sisters on my team like what they do for me yeah you know i mean they they live my life yeah and i live their life and i'm saying to myself man i'm honored to have friends like that so that they don, I don't like using the word work for me. They the family. I mean, they go back. I mean, shout out to Patty, shout out to Kitko,
Starting point is 01:45:30 like as far as we know. Yeah, Patty, everybody. My circle is the same circle you met 27 years ago. Right. Same with Crazy Hood, same thing with us.
Starting point is 01:45:39 Yeah, same with y'all. I know I was with your man the other night. I bust his video, he was shooting a video for him. Oh, Garcia. Yeah, yeah. You know what was with your man the other night. At Busta's video, he was shooting a video for him. Oh, Garcia. Yeah, yeah. Know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:45:47 Like, I fucked up, right? No, no, you good. You good. You holding it down. That's family, bro. You holding it down. You good. We got you, dog.
Starting point is 01:45:55 I need water. I'm not going to lie to you. I don't know if this is healthy. No, no, no. But you're only doing it tonight and it's done. You're only tonight. Then you balance it tomorrow. You know I'm trying to finish my album.
Starting point is 01:46:05 Because you know why? You're going to drink rain juice tomorrow. God, dude. God, dude. You know, I think, I don't want to say this, but it helps take the pain away a little. A little. A little. A little.
Starting point is 01:46:20 It helps the release. Because at Summer Jam last year, was it last year or the year before that? Which Summer Jam? Where? They seen that Elliot Wilson pushed you off at one point. Pushed him off? At Summer Jam? Yeah, at Summer Jam.
Starting point is 01:46:33 Pushed him off? He pissed you off. Oh, pissed. We were walking through the hallways and you were... Oh, you know about that? Yeah, I do. How do you know about that? That's crazy.
Starting point is 01:46:44 That was a while ago. Shout out to Elliot Wilson. That's our brother. Right. But he didn't believe in you. I wouldn't say he didn't believe in me. You know, I'm doing an interview with him. Rap Radar?
Starting point is 01:46:54 He asked me to do Rap Radar. Elliot Wilson's my brother. I love Elliot Wilson. But it's crazy how you brought that up because... No, it was a moment. No, no, no. One thing about me, I'm so pure that if I'm disappointed in you if I see you yes I can't be fake with you I just can't
Starting point is 01:47:17 cuz you know I represent love and like you know that you know that I've been through we do I've been through so much shit in my life like no if I ever put a documentary if I tell you like the in-depth stories of my life like you look at me different you know forget just the music and the success and the blessings I'm talking about the shit I've been through trust me and I know you've probably been through the same shit I've been through no no, no, no, no. Me and Elliot are good. Actually, I'm about to do a show. Rap Radar.
Starting point is 01:47:51 It's Rap Radar. It's the same show, but I think a new platform. They're bringing it back. Yeah, they're bringing it back. So I'm doing it. But yeah, we did have a running, what do you call it, running in the hallway. It was in Brooklyn Barclays Center. In Barclays, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I forgot what he didn't believe in me.
Starting point is 01:48:07 I mean, whoa. Oh yeah, you know you're my brother. I'm drunk. This was then, this was then. Not now, this is then. You're right. I didn't believe you. It's quick, I had to think about it.
Starting point is 01:48:17 He really, I thought, whoa, I'ma say this, in his defense, I thought he didn't believe in me. No. God did Yeah, what was that shit you used to do Brian be done. No, no, you should do the big show. Um The way we interview the artists those rap radar, no, I know that but it was a special one We do it. Oh, I know what you talking about it was sponsored by crown crown crown crown
Starting point is 01:48:49 yeah the crown of that time oh thank you to I am the fucking crown. Like, you know what I'm saying? I was beyond confused. We got another illustration. We love you brother. We love you. So, again, me being pure and me being honest, when I seen him, we had passionate. Love. It's love. Yeah, passionate love. But you had to express yourself.
Starting point is 01:49:27 I had to express myself. Passionate love. It's crazy. I'm about to do this interview. I'm about to do it soon. And he's a beautiful person. You know what I mean? He reps the culture like y'all rep the culture.
Starting point is 01:49:40 Him and B-Dot. B-Dot as well. Yeah, both of them. Beautiful people. Beautiful people. We need them both outside. Yeah, beautiful people. And at that time,
Starting point is 01:49:46 I thought he didn't believe in me. But maybe I had to put in more work and I didn't even know it. You know what I'm saying? Maybe. Because I was confused. I can't even lie to you. But I'm such a good guy.
Starting point is 01:49:58 Wait, how long have you been doing this? I use the word maybe. This was like when Tidal did the Barkley Center. They did aclays center they did a show remember they did a show in the barclays center title did a barclays center show it was a show it was in brooklyn it was a show oh and i bumped into him backstage that was that crazy long ago that was a while ago it was like um i would say before, I probably at that time,
Starting point is 01:50:27 I probably had like, I Wish You Would Out. Okay. Theraflu and all that type of records. Before the pandemic, so basically. Yeah, maybe Go Hard Era. I don't know. I don't remember,
Starting point is 01:50:34 but it was damn near 10 years ago. I can tell you that. Right, okay, okay. So it's just like we, I don't know how to be fake, Nori. Right, I respect that. You know, I don't know how to be fake nori, right? You know, I don't be fake. So if I you never heard me tear somebody I'm gonna pull you this side I'm gonna call you on the ash you step in the room. What's how it talk?
Starting point is 01:50:58 Or sit at the table. That's what's so beautiful about this table You you instead of bullshit, you know people out there listening right now You can get to the ask somebody come to the table right let's talk right we don't have to like each other we don't have to dislike each other we don't have to do nothing right but we got to respect each other absolutely and if you can get in a room and have that discussion of respect after that let's move on right it's on you how you want to move on right i came to you i addressed our situation let's have respect right because you know we're not with no other stuff i'm not gangster i'm not none of that i represent love but at the same time i'm a man yeah my man so at that time he
Starting point is 01:51:36 was doing the crown and he didn't give me the crown and i had the crown hanging on me every day right so i was like fucking confused. You don't see the fucking crown? And then I got the crown and sold out the crown. People hanging out, 10,000 people outside trying to get in the crown. They didn't love. They didn't believe in us.
Starting point is 01:51:58 God, dude. God, dude. You know what I'm saying? Like, no. I love this energy. I'm sorry. Slime pizza's not weighing up. Oh, my god. I love this energy, man.
Starting point is 01:52:11 So how? First off, let's talk about Wild Thoughts for a second. Because at the time, not only did you have Rihanna, but you had, like, Bryson Tiller. And at that time, I swear to god, he wasn't working. He wasn't working with no other artist. So how the hell did you get... First of all,
Starting point is 01:52:28 Rihanna, I love you so much. Today I actually did a Fenty X Fenty Savage shoot. I said it right? Savage X Fenty. I did a shoot today. Wow. Like on my model and shit.
Starting point is 01:52:39 Wow. So we redid. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I just got... Before I came here, I just did it. I'm not making this up. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why we did the time we did, right?
Starting point is 01:52:49 Before I came here, I was shooting a big, fancy shoot for Rihanna. That's fine. Want me to lie to you? Right. Rihanna did. She been did. So, no, so Rihanna is Rihanna. So Bryce and Tiller. Shout out to Bryce and Tiller because we made a record. Me, Rihanna, Bryce and Tiller and shout out Party Next Door. I produced the record. Party Next Door was part of, you know, some of the ideas, not some of the ideas, writing some of the record.
Starting point is 01:53:27 Riri jumped on it. Thank God. Dream come true. And I put Bryson Tiller on it. And Riri loved the record. We got a hit. I'll never forget. Riri changed the pitch of the record.
Starting point is 01:53:47 I sent her, so she changed the pitch to make it her. You know, when you're a great artist, you make records your own. And she's an icon. She's a great artist. So she put her passion to it and pitched the record up. That's crazy. Which was genius. It's crazy, though, that she did that to your record. I already had Bryce Attila on it.
Starting point is 01:54:07 So I had to call Bryce Attila like yo, there's a good news We read vocals is in Great news You ready hear this shit good so I'm gonna buy some tell me la I don't have ice until his house in LA I Play in the. I go to Bryce Attila's house in LA. I play in the record. We all excited. I need you to cut your vocals over because now the music's pitched up. So you got to cut your vocals over.
Starting point is 01:54:34 Even me, I had to change my shit. You know? I said, no problem. I leave. I'm calling Bryce Attila. My album come out like in two weeks. Yo bro, I need you to pitch, I mean I need you to cut the vocals over so, you know Rihanna's vocals is in the air now, right?
Starting point is 01:54:54 Everybody excited. He not picking up his phone. No, Bryce is my brother. Right. You know I think he's- Rich DeBarber put him on too, right? Yeah, shout out to Rich DeBarber. He had an album coming out
Starting point is 01:55:05 Surprise album coming out At the same time Okay So he not picking up my phone I need this done I got fucking Rihanna vocals You got Rihanna vocals It's in
Starting point is 01:55:14 The biggest record of my One of my biggest records Of my career He not picking up the phone I jump in my car I drive to his house He has a gate I'm flashing my lights Hon I drive to his house. He has a gate.
Starting point is 01:55:29 I'm flashing my lights, honking my horns, sending texts. Nobody's replying. You think I'm playing with this shit? One thing about me, anybody know me, I don't play no games. Eventually, shot to Rich the barber, he comes outside. Bryson comes out, they open the gate. I was already climbing the gate Think I'm playing it
Starting point is 01:55:51 I asked them Call them When you put the show out call them get their version get their version might be more intense They come outside I See your bro. I need the record. I need you to cut your vocals. I got to drop this record next week. He did it. He was excited to do it.
Starting point is 01:56:16 I was just confused. Meaning as in, can you pick up your phone? Even Rich DeBarber, that's my brother. They were dropping a surprise album they said break it to them was like the hardest artist to to get out at that time like it was yeah he's still special right he's still incredible but at that time it was like though the rise you know I'm drunk, right? Right, right. I don't know if I'm, I don't know. No, you're good, you're good.
Starting point is 01:56:46 You sound sober, you're sober. The rise of a new star, but very fucking potent. Right, right. Like his shows, people, Rihanna went to his show, Justin Bieber went to his show. Stars was coming out to his show. Right, right. You know, it's what I do. You know what I'm saying? I knew that energy and I was a fan. I'm still a fan. I make music to a show. Right. Right. You know, it's what I do. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:57:05 I knew that energy and I was a fan. I'm still a fan. I make music to this day. You heard the record with him and Puff? Yes, incredible. It's fantastic. Fucking incredible. Shout out to my brother Puff Daddy.
Starting point is 01:57:17 Yeah, shout out to Puff Daddy. So, I just needed him to re-cut his vocals. For the Rihanna record. That's all I needed. He re-cutted them, but of course, you know, people don't, when you make albums, you know, deadlines are real. Right. Right.
Starting point is 01:57:31 They're real. When you say an album date like August 26, God did come out, what, you think I'm lying? It's coming out August 26. Right, right. I need the fucking vocals already. What are we doing? Let me mix it.
Starting point is 01:57:43 Let me master it. Let me get this shit on the album right so it's a special story because i knew how big the record was before it even came out and when my gut tells me something it's like the holy grail if i I tell you my gut telling me something, just know we're going to win big. Because God did. Yeah, God did. So Wild Thoughts,
Starting point is 01:58:12 shout out to Rihanna and Bryson Tiller and Party Next Door. One of my biggest records, one of my favorite records, and a very special story behind it. You know what I'm saying? Right. God damn, let's make some noise for that.
Starting point is 01:58:29 Now, this is one of the things I... Do you go to Dubai, or you don't... I haven't been to Dubai yet, but... Not yet at all? No, I just started flying, like... Well, I knew that, that you weren't flying, right? My son is five years old. He's about to turn six.
Starting point is 01:58:44 So I've been flying for five years now. I stopped flying for like damn near 20 years. Wow, what happened? Yeah, what convinced you to fly to start with? The privates is what it did? I fly now. I fly now. The privates did.
Starting point is 01:58:55 For sure. Delta Airlines ain't believe in you? We had a terrible private experience on our side. I went to go shoot the video for Grammy believe in you? We had a terrible private experience on our side. When I was, I went to go shoot the video for Grammy Family in LA. Me, Kanye,
Starting point is 01:59:10 John Legend, Consequence. And I think it was like BT Awards at the same time. We was all out there. Joe, me, my queen.
Starting point is 01:59:22 We was all out there. Excited. My first album. Listen, it was called Listen. And I had Kanye West at his, like, where you can't get Kanye West, it's impossible. He blessed me with a Grammy family. So we shot the video in LA. Incredible record, right. He paid for the video, by the way, too. Right. So we shot the video in LA. Incredible record. Right. He paid for the video, by the way, too.
Starting point is 01:59:46 Wow. You know what I'm saying? Like, it was crazy because, you know, you heard me, I don't know if you remember this story, but I was signing a cotch
Starting point is 01:59:53 and cotch was like, yo, Kanye, you want this, that, and that, and that. How are we going to pay for this? You know, I'm broke then. Right. And I think he heard wind of that
Starting point is 02:00:00 and like, yo, I'm paying for the video. So thank you, Kanye. I appreciate that. Shout out to Kanye. That's dope. So thank you Kanye, I appreciate that. Wow, shout out to Kanye. That's dope. Wow. We didn't know that. So the flight on the way back from LA to Miami,
Starting point is 02:00:14 so we on the plane, it's me and my queen. Commercial or this is private? Commercial. I'm broke. Okay. We take off. One of them big jets take off and they're like 20 minutes in the flight that motherfucker went. Please don't let my wife know.
Starting point is 02:00:30 Like a big drop. We went through this recently. Like a big drop. She did that with the plane. But it wasn't like turbulence when the whole plane said, ah. The whole plane did it. It wasn't like it's me. The whole plane did it wasn't like it's me So I'm bugging now, I don't like flying period I'm bugging out. I'm having a panic panic attack. I'm shaking. I'm
Starting point is 02:00:58 Bugging now. What is this? You remember? American only around the day my girl. She got her feet up in the sky like you know I'm the headrest what's not bothering her drinking wine laughing I'll tell her I go chill so I called the stewardess and I started holding her hand like please help me and actually Joe was on that flying Joe turn around like. But Joe wasn't flying for a while either. Yeah, as I said, we twins. We brothers, for real. He looking at me like I feel you.
Starting point is 02:01:30 Like y'all cares. He checking on me as a brother. But I know he like bugging too. So we 20 minutes to the flight. You know, LA to Miami is like five hours. Yeah, five hours, yeah. I just kept thinking, we're only 20 minutes in. You mean I got another four hours and blah blah blah to go through i'm having a panic attack i'm holding the fucking store this
Starting point is 02:01:53 like please man please what do you want to do about me i'm gonna keep it real it's not being soft i'm scared shitless you You know what I'm saying? And then my queen, she, you know I love my queen. You know that. She's so cool. But she pissing me off.
Starting point is 02:02:13 She laughing, drinking. Yo, you're soft. You know, all type of shit. I'm like, yo, ma,
Starting point is 02:02:22 stop. For real, I can't take this shit anymore. Like, one thing about me, I'm going to yo, ma, stop. For real, I can't take this shit anymore. Like, one thing about me, I'm going to be honest and pure. So we finally land. I'll never forget. Even when we land, it was, you know how Miami rains once in a while? Even when we land, we had to circle the airport until we land.
Starting point is 02:02:42 It was unbelievable. I've never seen a five-hour flight like this. Un-fucking-believable. We we land. It was unbelievable. I never seen a five-hour flight like this. Un-fucking-believable. We finally land. When I land, AFN, I promise you, I kiss the ground. I kiss the ground. I said, I'm never flying again. So now, remember, my first album just came out.
Starting point is 02:03:00 I'm on fire. Like, you got to go here, here, here. I'm like, yo, listen, I'm not flying. He was on a tour bus at that time. So they know they gave me the tour bus to do an east coast run from Miami you know Miami Tampa St. Pete then went to Alabama Atlanta Tallahassee you know the whole east coast Virginia you know DC Philly New York they gave me a nice tour bus. It was actually nice. I said, why am I flying? This is amazing. I mean, curry goat.
Starting point is 02:03:30 I'm chilling. I'm bobbing to music. I'm on a tour bus. So I was like, I'm never flying again. So I didn't fly for like 15 years. Ended up buying my own tour bus. I had a tour bus that blew up on fire. That caught on fire
Starting point is 02:03:45 on the side of the highway. Blew up on all my jewelry, all my sneakers, all my clothes because I lived on the road at that time. I had like seven doubles of clothes,
Starting point is 02:03:54 seven doubles of sneakers. I still remember that. Yeah, all that blew up. And I kept doing the bus. The bus beat me up. Like, I couldn't, I used to do Miami and L.A. back to back like every week
Starting point is 02:04:05 My driver would fly. I'm gonna drive two days straight to stop for gas only to get to Miami to LA 15 years So I used to do a gig the gig would only pay for the gas The bus at night in the hotel room so I was just doing gigs just to get my name I'm just a do them so to get my name out there. Just to do them. Yeah, just to do them. So, to get my name out there. That's wild. That's crazy. It wasn't even enough money to pay for the hotel
Starting point is 02:04:31 rooms. But that gas is very expensive. You just gotta put it out there. The gas for the bus is crazy. The bus business is no disrespect when I say this, it's crap. Like, it's a whole nother, you go go it's a lot of money right so my son was born Assad I'll never forget my biggest
Starting point is 02:04:57 blessing came to my life my son was born I'm like I love this boy so much. And I was in L.A. I had to do the Billboard Awards. And my son was just born like maybe one month or two months, maybe. One month or two months. Right. And I flew him in to meet me in L.A. to do the Billboard Awards. I wanted to be with my queen and my son. And while he
Starting point is 02:05:25 was in the air I was like yo I can't believe that I'm scared of flying I got my son in the sky and I'm not with him yep so when he landed I said yo never again I'm gonna overcome my fear and start flying again and the blessing it was my career took off I could afford a private my saying to go get private because a private will break you but I fly private I'm being real with you I just gotta work extra harder so I only fly certain type of jets am I gonna lie to you I don't fly them skinny little tubes that you see out there My shit's being, my shit's, my shit's hope dead.
Starting point is 02:06:05 My shit is draped dead. My shit's special now. It costs. No, I'm just being honest. It costs a lot of money. I don't like this habit. I'm honest, too. I do not like this habit.
Starting point is 02:06:18 So I started flying ever since my son was born. After he took his first flight or two, I was like, I refuse not to fly. And my son can fly in the air, and I put him in the air, I gotta put me in the air. Absolutely, yeah. And I overcome my fear. So don't get twisted. When that shit shake, I'm on the fucking ground holding a fucking chair. I'm scared shitless to this day. But
Starting point is 02:06:37 I gotta do what I gotta do. And I can't believe it only takes two hours to get to a place or five hours to get to a place compared to 24 hours. Right, right, right. Thank God. God did. You think your kids could ever fly commercial?
Starting point is 02:06:54 I won't let them. Okay. My wife, my queen, she wants to let them. Right. She don't ever want me to book private jet, she wants me to go regular. But don't you got your own school for your kids? But I refuse to let them.
Starting point is 02:07:04 I won't let them and you don't you get your own school for your kids yeah we you know when the pandemic came we we built our own school your homeschooling yeah we homeschooled but it was it was but it was the whole community went to the house of school when the pandemic was deep in the pandemic you created a school yeah and then now you know we back to normal and um i mean well we kind of back yeah we're not all the way back so but at that time yeah you know, we're back to normal. And, I mean, well, we kind of back to normal. Yeah, we're not all the way back to normal. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 02:07:26 But at that time, yeah, you know what I'm saying? I made sure that he was around education, but also around other greatness, you know, other kids and kings and queens. It's important for our kids to be around each other. Yeah, you're building social skills, right. You know, support, you know what I mean? The same way it's important for us to be around, you know, greatness. Right. You know what I mean? So that was important. Yeah, that's beautiful, right. You know, support. You know what I mean? The same way it's important for us to be around, you know, greatness. Right.
Starting point is 02:07:47 You know what I mean? So that was important. That's beautiful, man. Let's make some noise for that. So 13 albums. What are we going to do? What are we going to do after this? Is this...
Starting point is 02:07:57 I mean, the way my album starts, there's nothing you can do about it. Is that where we're starting it off with? The way my album starts, there's nothing you can do about it. There's nothing you can do about it. Is that where we starting it off with? The way my album starts there's nothing you can do about it. There's nothing you can do about it. Like you know like track one and two after that like like it's it's probably head time. You don't ever ever have to quit. It's remember I'm a fan. Not only am I one of the the guys in the that's doing it big, I'm a fan. So know when I make my music, I'm making it as a fan too. Not just because I'm good at what I do, but I'm making it because I love this shit.
Starting point is 02:08:36 This is my biggest album. It's the biggest. Biggest. And the minute I stop saying that, I won't make no more albums again. I always say it's my biggest album That's important Because it is Right At that time
Starting point is 02:08:49 Right This is my biggest Right This guy did so When will you know it's not the biggest album? When I just lose the passion for it And I haven't lost the passion for it Because
Starting point is 02:09:01 I told you earlier I eat, sleep, breathe hip hop Is it about making the biggest records or having the biggest artists? It's about making the best song the biggest song. I mean don't think I'm sounding like cocky when I say this but like I can work with anybody and make a great song that's the blessing I got as a producer but I'm blessed also work with anybody and make a great song. That's the blessing I got as a producer. But I'm blessed to also work with the greats to make and continue to make great songs for my catalog and their catalog.
Starting point is 02:09:35 You know what I'm saying? You know, I tell people all the time, it's not about the feature you get. It's about what you get out of them. Out of the feature. And the song, how big it is you're saying so i i focus on the song right you're saying and sometimes you get blessed because of the excitement of the relationship and the passion of what we do together you get blessed for they be as passionate as i am and that's when like you make records like Stayin' Alive. And when Drake blesses you,
Starting point is 02:10:05 I like what Drake like. You know, I don't question Drake. If he says the hi-hat needed to be this loud, I love it. You're in. I love it. How about Bad Bunny?
Starting point is 02:10:20 You got a record with Bad Bunny? I worked with Bad Bunny before. I have vocals with Bad Bunny. You know, Bad Bunny originally was on You Stay. Remember that? You Stay, You Stay. I have the vocals right now.
Starting point is 02:10:30 Really? He was originally on You Stay. Is that what you're going to do? You're going to do a little bit of reggaeton? I mean, I don't mind doing it. One day I want to make a whole Spanish album. That's right. You speak Spanish.
Starting point is 02:10:42 Yeah, me sabe español, me sabe árabe, me sabe everything. I got to win. Vamos a hablar ahora mismo Spanish Me sabe espanol Me sabe arabi Me sabe everything I gotta win Vamos a hablar ahora mismo Me sabe todo He said El no sabe todo Me arabi Me american arabi
Starting point is 02:10:53 Me sabe espanol Me sabe todo I'm a hustler Right Like you know I was raised My mom speaks Every language
Starting point is 02:11:02 Listen I don't wanna get too deep Cause y'all gonna think I'm crazy Let me ask you something Real quick real quick Seriously I was raised, my mom speaks every language. Listen, I don't want to get too deep. Y'all going to think I'm crazy. Let me answer something real quick, real quick. Mom is being real. Hold on, Khaled, Khaled, serious question. A DJ is following in your footsteps. They want to do what you do.
Starting point is 02:11:24 How is an artist like yourself compiling these projects how is it that you make the money someone might say well if you're not the artist that's getting the publishing off of the verses how are you making your money on the projects i mean well me i'm a producer um i come from djing and i'm an artist right so anytime if i say another one, or DJ Cavill, we the best. That's publishing. Automatically. Right. You can't single beat.
Starting point is 02:11:50 When Lil Jon used to say, yeah. Publisher. Publisher. Take that, take that. But not even just that. I'm a producer. Right. But there's some records where I'm just, if I'm blessed, I'm an artist on it because they
Starting point is 02:12:02 came to the table with some greatness. Right. You know what I'm saying? So every record has a different story. You know what I'm an artist on it because they came to the table with some greatness right you'll say so every record has a different story you're saying one thing I won't do is um how can I say like what I won't do is people send me records all the time but it has to make sense of what i'm doing i'm not a shine freak when i say shop freak i'm a i want to be great like when when i say god did when the album come out you're going to understand what god did is the sound of god did the minute it starts to the end you're going to hear a callous sound at that time right if you notice my records always have a anthematic sound.
Starting point is 02:12:49 Right? You know what I'm saying? But there's times where... It's a big sound. So when I'm fully hands-on you know. I feel like that's the dub play background. Right. You know when I'm fully hands-on and then you know when I'm blessed
Starting point is 02:13:04 and I'm grateful to be able to collaborate. Because that's what it's about making music, it's about collaboration. Not just artists, but everybody in that room contributes, from the engineer down to the producer, down to the artist, down to everything in that room is a collaboration and we know you love everybody right but has there ever been a time where an artist didn't give you their all and you had to ask them to give you your all
Starting point is 02:13:34 I mean I got so much respect for the people I work with if I feel like it ain't right I'm pretty good at if I'm in it ain't right, I'm pretty good at, if I'm in the room with the person, I'm pretty good at getting it right. Because for instance, when Shine first came home, it seemed like Shine was off.
Starting point is 02:13:57 But it seemed like Shine right now. Right now he got the Shine voice. When Shine first came home, he didn't have the Shine voice. And it's crazy That me and Sean Was talking about that Right Because when he was Golfers
Starting point is 02:14:08 That's so long That's so long Of course He didn't use his voice Yeah Right Of course So when you think about it
Starting point is 02:14:14 You're like It's true He didn't use his voice Yeah Imagine being in that situation You're not going to be Talking to everybody Yeah
Starting point is 02:14:20 Right You're going to be Keeping to yourself And you're going to be Staying alive Yeah Staying alive He come home everybody. You want me to keep it to yourself and you're going to be staying alive. Yeah. Yes, staying alive. He come home.
Starting point is 02:14:29 What a blessing. What an inspiration Sean is. Like, if you think about his story. It's incredible. The man on scene. The man, the man,
Starting point is 02:14:39 the story. I can't wait to see a documentary on this guy. Right. So, he was in the studio the other day cutting dub play for me. And I'm like, yo, that voice is back. And you got Barrington and Levy on it?
Starting point is 02:14:50 Y'all redid the record, right? Yeah, I did a dub play with me, Boojoo, Shine. Oh, it's a dub play? It's a dub play. Oh, I thought you redid the record. No, no, no, me, Boojoo, Shine, and Barrington on the dub. That's crazy, though. You know, I still cut dub play.
Starting point is 02:15:02 That's crazy. I cut dub play just because I'm just so true to it, so pure to it. And I want my kids to have all my dubs when they grow up. I just love this shit. That's an NFT by itself. I love dub play. I still cut dub. I still cut dub.
Starting point is 02:15:15 I'm a sound killer. No, that's dope. That's dope. If we ain't established anything, we know that you a sound killer. No, no, no, because I come from that. So I'm never going to be shy to say where I come from. I come from sound. I'm a sound boy.
Starting point is 02:15:30 You know what I'm saying? Nobody can question that. What is your most proudest accomplishment besides your kids? We know that. My kids, for sure. I mean, music-wise. Lior told me a story one day. Lior asked me he said he said if i cut you what would you bleed and i said blood and then leo said ask me the same thing and i actually want the same
Starting point is 02:15:52 thing and leo i said if i cut you leo what you would bleed he said sucker mc then he asked me again he said so what do you bleed if i cut you and i said super done so if i if i was to cut dj collett right now what record would would would dj collett bleed i would i wouldn't i would just one i wouldn't i wouldn't even make it a record is it an album no i wouldn't even make it an album it's just like i would have to praise god you know what i'm Like, if I had to be cut and bleed, you're gonna see this God did. And it's not about the album. God did his album, yeah, but, you know,
Starting point is 02:16:32 God did his real thing to me. They ain't believe in us, Nori. Nah, it breaks my fucking heart. No, no, look at me, look at me. It breaks my heart. No, no, it breaks my heart. at me. It breaks my heart. No, no, it breaks, yo, it breaks my heart. Right. To have to see people that I know that, or, or, or, or, what do you call them, they or a hater?
Starting point is 02:16:53 Right. You ain't believe in us. Right. Yeah. You mean even now you don't believe in us? Right. You're breaking my fucking heart. But let's just be clear, Kyle.
Starting point is 02:17:04 So it would be God did. If you see me bleed, just know God did. God did. But let's just be clear So it would be God did If you see me bleed Just know God did God did But let's be clear You're a very Very Very successful person
Starting point is 02:17:13 Like You know we always feel People when we come up I think Floyd Mayweather Was probably the only person That pulled up With 18 cars Right
Starting point is 02:17:21 Like And when people But you pulled up You got the Two million dollar Maybach that pulls up for it. Excuse me. Then we make I think you don't have a few out there But it's like for but it's not about the number I don't want to make you look crazy out there. I apologize. You all saw London. Two world's voices. Stretch fandom. Stretch.
Starting point is 02:17:46 Not the one that you get in the store, the dealership, the one that you have to order. The stretch. The one that your knees ain't on your neck. You know, my shit is like. No, no, there's two of them. There's a fandom, and your knees is on your neck, and there's one that's like mine. It's a vibe. No, I'm just telling you the truth.
Starting point is 02:18:05 Yeah, go ahead. I'm sorry. So, with all this success, what keeps you going? And I've also been to your house plenty of times, and I'm going to be honest, you have probably one of the best houses
Starting point is 02:18:19 I've ever seen in my life. When I go to your house, I put the thing on, even if you tell me not to. You know, the things on your toes. You When I go to your house, I put the thing on, even if you tell me not to. You know, the things on your toes. You know how to do that. I put it on,
Starting point is 02:18:29 I mean, I try not to make a mess at all. No, no, no, because I got my own stone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, we have little things for your footies. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:18:36 You know how to do that. We just have that as a case. No, no, no. By the way, I never want to make a mess because I don't want to be the guy that makes a mess at the beautiful man.
Starting point is 02:18:43 No, no, no. So how do you keep going after all this success all this like most people get comfortable and they stop and they'll not even stop they'll just I'll tell you exactly comfortable and they don't work as hard after that how do you keep still to that passion God believes in you yes not only do you show him how grateful you are You better fucking go harder And harder Because that man Believe in you
Starting point is 02:19:08 The other day My engineer called me He was talking about Yeah Juan I love Juan But Juan's special Right I called Juan
Starting point is 02:19:16 The man talking like He on Drink Champs drunk Like he's talking crazy He know we gotta turn the album in I'm gonna take a shot for Juan Yeah The man talking like I'm like yo bro We gotta turn the album in And I'm going to take a shot for Juan. Yeah, the man talking like, I'm like, yo, bro, we got to turn the album in.
Starting point is 02:19:26 And he's trying to tell me some, I love Juan. You know, that's my engineer, my family. He's telling me like some type of excuse. Right. I had to yell on the phone and say, this God did, man. Are you fucking serious? You mean God believe in us and you playing with this shit? These motherfuckers don't believe in us and God did.
Starting point is 02:19:47 Get your shit together. Go fucking even harder because he believed. That's the shit I'm on. I tell everybody on my team. Fucking God believe in us. Excuse my language. These people, you better fucking go harder. That's what I tell my team
Starting point is 02:20:05 And I tell me Yo Nori Let me tell you something This ain't no joke team No joke team You don't see no blink And no nothing in my eyes As much as I drink
Starting point is 02:20:14 Japanese whiskey All that When it come down to the G.O.D God dude It's no joke team No joke team I'm only here because of him That's right
Starting point is 02:20:22 I'm only great because of him I'm only great because of him He believe in us Not just me He believe in all of us We gotta acknowledge that And when you know that You're only gonna do better Because you know better
Starting point is 02:20:36 And you're gonna go even harder And you're not gonna worry about all that other weird shit You're gonna fucking go hard. God damn it, man. Yo, really quick, though. Side look. I wanna dedicate this shot to a mutual friend of mine and Khaled's that passed away, Roll Up, that believes in both of us.
Starting point is 02:21:00 Man, Roll Up, man. Flavor Nation. Yeah, Flavor Station, man. God bless. Roll Up passed away. He passed away a while ago, man. Flavor Nation. Flavor Station, man. God bless. Roll up passed away. He passed away a while ago. A long time ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:21:09 He passed away a while ago. You know, EFN, you know, Nora, you know, EFN. You know, I get excited to get on the show, especially, you know, knowing you're a legend. You know that. But also your partner, EFN, he's a legend. He's a legend. Appreciate that. He's definitely a Miami legend.
Starting point is 02:21:23 I know that for a fact. Super Miami legend. And it's so beautiful to be around somebody I really know. He's a legend. He's a legend. Appreciate that. He's definitely a Miami legend. I know that for a fact. Super Miami legend. And it's so beautiful to be around somebody I really know. Yes, he knows. You know, oh, DJ Khaled, I know these brothers too. I really know. Yes, yeah.
Starting point is 02:21:35 You know what I'm saying? Like, this real talk. I actually know before all, before me and you, man, all that, they know. Right, right. So it's, you know, when he brings up Roll Up, that was a brother of ours that was so pure to the hip-hop game and loved us so much that would would do anything for us that
Starting point is 02:21:52 would sponsor all our parties invested in every every one of all our parties would put up a bag up for us to see us win you know to be out there passing out flyers with us to have a clothing store you know i mean god bless him man you know if you look at one of my old videos me doing my peter piper back in the back he was beside me it was me craze and roll up you know i mean zulu nation all right yeah you know what i'm saying so like when he brings his name up i just got to give him his flowers because absolutely that's our brother you know what i'm saying yeah that's our brother you know that yeah he's a real one my brother i'm getting goosebumps right now what are you drinking is that a spritzer Yeah, it's our brother, you know that? Yeah, he's a real one. My brother. I'm getting goosebumps right now.
Starting point is 02:22:27 Connors, what are you drinking? Is that a spritzer? What is that called? This one is actually Casamigo. I'm going to take you to a pizza. We did bring the spritzers, though. I've been on this lately. So I'm on my Deleon.
Starting point is 02:22:46 I'm on my Lobos. Lobos, yeah. I'm on my Balan. And Mav Carter. I'm on my Ace. I'm on a bunch of vibes. But I went this vibe today because, what was the other night?
Starting point is 02:22:59 Jamie was in the studio, and I was like, yo, this is like a vibe. It's hitting me. It's a little cranberry a little star fruit You know saying so chef Melissa put in one of these little vibes for me You know saying don't know at the crib She got it with fucking pineapple hanging out with a fucking tree coming on the side With a hot rag to wash your face off. You know, shit smell like milk. You know, they believe in us.
Starting point is 02:23:26 God did. It's Jeff Melissa, dude. Yo, you better believe it. It's Jeff Melissa, dude. Man, I can't wait for you to hear this whole verse. This whole verse, yes, because I ain't going to lie to you. I ain't hear him talk like that since. And we can't say who he on the record with now?
Starting point is 02:23:46 No, I don't want to because. No, we don't have to. You know, it's going to start, you know, it's going to be the start off my album. Oh, this is the first record. That's why you said. There's a thing that comes in, which is unbelievable, that comes in, that brings it in. Yeah, it's the start. It's the start of the album and um
Starting point is 02:24:08 Can we say how many other people's on the record what the goal is the other goats on oh, yeah all go That's all go. Yeah, it's kept play with this shit He can't play with this shit. You're saying um, I Pinched myself every time I hear it So so if I say a name time I hear it. So if I say a name... Don't even do that. I know it's Drink Champs. I know it's like...
Starting point is 02:24:31 But like, really, this is a gift to the world. It's a gift to the world. So let's just let the world get it. Yeah, they gotta get it. They gotta get it. Because it's unbelievable. And like I said,
Starting point is 02:24:42 the big goats, they came... Not once, but twice. It's unbelievable And then like Like I said The big goats Are outside They came Not once but twice Yeah some of them came twice Right It's really unbelievable man Like it's unbelievable God bless you
Starting point is 02:24:56 God bless you Uh uh uh Let's give some applause Is DJ Khaled happy? Yeah I am. I've probably been the happiest I've ever been in my life. And I would have to give the credit to God, my kids, and my queen. If I was down, all I have to do is see my kids. I'm very happy because of all the accomplishments I have conquered throughout my career.
Starting point is 02:25:30 I'm very happy of my growth. I'm very happy with my patience. I'm very happy with me controlling my emotions. I'm very happy with my decisions. I'm very happy, Nori, because I'd be disrespectful to say I'm not. Because we have life. We're blessed. We're blessed.
Starting point is 02:26:05 We're blessed. Is it, am I human? Yes. Do we go through hard times? Do we go through depression? Do we go through vibes? Of course we do. Right.
Starting point is 02:26:20 But it's how we deal with it. Yeah. And I'm proud how we deal with it. And I'm proud of how I deal with things. But I'm super excited and super proud of just all the accomplishments that we've done. Because everything I'm doing and everything I've done, they said I couldn't do. Like literally told me I could not do none of this shit. I have accomplished. So I'm very proud of that.
Starting point is 02:26:43 I know that's from God's blessing. And now I got my kids. So now I'm a superhero. Like I know that's from God's blessing and now I got my kids so now I'm a superhero like I like I got special powers now so I'm like I've been going hard now my kids is here I'm like I'm like yeah not just beautiful like unstoppable you see what I'm saying I'm gonna make sure that everybody good. You know what I'm saying? Then I got a beautiful team around me. Yes.
Starting point is 02:27:10 You know, my circle tight, man. I keep it tight. You know what I'm saying? So I got nothing but good vibes around me. You know what I'm saying? Kitko, Patty, Jamie. Chris Smokes. Chris Smokes, Ivan, my queen, my kids, Lenny S, you know, Courtney, Latrice.
Starting point is 02:27:31 It's so many of us, Natalie, I don't want to go into all the names. I don't want to forget nobody. But my team is the definition of teamwork making dream work. And I want everybody out there from a new artist or producer or anything that you try to do in life as an entrepreneur, it take to have a good team with you. Yeah, you could do it yourself. Because, you know, I tell my team all the time,
Starting point is 02:27:58 they'll tell you, I'm not shy about this. I'm going to get it done regardless. That's what keeps them strong. And then they, then they, then they, I'm drunk, get it done regardless. That's what keeps them strong. And then they, I'm drunk, but then they get even greater. I watched the greatness come out of them even more. And I watched them do things on their special projects where they're turning to different type of bosses. And I'm like, I love that. And I know that this energy we got is special.
Starting point is 02:28:27 You know what I'm saying? Let's make some noise for that. Yeah, it's special. Taking a shot, you said? No, no, no. We back on regular drinks. Holy moly, yo Kyle, I can't thank you enough, man.
Starting point is 02:28:41 Yo, let me just tell you something, man. Your energy is beautiful. We believe in you, even when they didn't that's right we're here for you um uh you're not only um a dj icon you're not only a producer icon you're just an icon in general uh the things that you continue to do and continue to monkey for And continue to produce records And records and hits after hits And classic albums after classic albums
Starting point is 02:29:12 I want to tell you to your face You're appreciated Thank you brother You are special Thank you brother You are cloth talk Thank you You are an icon
Starting point is 02:29:21 And we appreciate you In case you didn't know that We want to tell you face to face. We want to give you flowers, you know what I mean, to your face because we haven't seen nobody do that. Like when I said earlier, you're the Quincy Jones. Of this generation. Of this generation. I appreciate that.
Starting point is 02:29:37 You know what I'm saying? I heard you say that. I'm a student. Yeah, but let me give you your flowers. No, no, I appreciate that and and I want to be clear because you know I know when it wait wait when people say stuff like that you know that's such a big name right but I know what you say and I really really beyond you you that you saying that gonna make me go even harder you know what the analogy is is
Starting point is 02:30:04 like Quincy was the only one who could work with Michael Jackson. Right. You got Michael Jackson in both versions. You got Hove at your expense. And you got fucking Drake anytime you want. That's beautiful. I'm very grateful for my brother. That's beautiful, bro.
Starting point is 02:30:19 Beyond grateful. Anybody act up, I let a Hove go. I let another Drake go too. And I got it You give me turnt up because I got it for real another drink, of course another by himself You're nori this DJ cow this
Starting point is 02:30:39 It breaks my heart of you question me. Don't do this. I love you. I'm not questioning you. No, no, no. Please don't do this to me. We don't want to break your heart. Don't do this to me. We don't want to keep your heart together. Man, it's so crazy that I was thinking when you brought his name up, it's like I'm just thinking about no new friends.
Starting point is 02:30:57 Right. Like it's crazy how many records we got together. When it was going over some of them, a new one popped up in my head just now. It's such a blessing, man. You have the goats that work with you. Beyond grateful. Beyond thankful. He know that.
Starting point is 02:31:16 And I make sure I show it too. That's family. Both of them. Do we still spell Canada? D-R-A-K-E. I like what Drake like. I ain't playing with this shit. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 02:31:40 I love this shit. I ain't playing with this shit. You know what? I say things that people want to say or afraid to say or insecure to say. I like what Drake like. You know? Think I'm fucking crazy? Like, no, people...
Starting point is 02:32:04 Let me tell you something. When you get an opportunity to work with a Hove or a Drake, it's like, not only do we like what they like, get things that we can have a discussion of what we like. Right. You have the opportunity. You understand what I'm saying? There's a reason why...
Starting point is 02:32:24 I'm going to go ahead and take another shot. Yeah, yeah, take a shot, because I'm not. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You understand what I'm saying? There's a reason why. I'm going to just go ahead and take another shot. Yeah, yeah, take a shot because I'm not. You're rocking and rolling? Because I like. Who's joining me on this one? I'm focused on it. I like Winaz. This ain't that same, that game.
Starting point is 02:32:33 I like Winaz. You want a shot? I like Winaz and Hope. They like Japanese whiskey. So I like it too. No, I love it. I love it, but I can't do all that. All that shit falling out, all that type of shit.
Starting point is 02:32:43 Get his mama Juana. You know, you got to. These guys are special. Like, you know, first of all, Jay-Z, with Jay-Z, we wouldn't be doing nothing we'd be doing if it wasn't for Jay-Z. Right. That's the truth. So how did this record happen when you got him for this? Did you call him?
Starting point is 02:32:57 Because... I came to see him to play on my album. Okay, this is when you're out in Roc Nation. I went to go see Ho. I always go see Ho, even if it's not for a record or nothing. I just go see my brother for his blessings,
Starting point is 02:33:13 for energy. And you drink Ace of Spades. I always let him pick my album covers too. Oh, wow. Word? Yeah. I show him like two options
Starting point is 02:33:20 and I let him pick out of those options. Right. Always. I can't wait for you to see this cover. Yeah. But so I went to go see Ho and I was blessed for him to put me in his schedule. I played in my album and he picked the record. He said I played in my album. You know, obviously I knew like I would love to get you on this one, but there were so many other ones I wanted to get him on,
Starting point is 02:33:45 but I knew this particular one, there's nothing we could do about it. I don't even have to ask you. Just the love of music. It's the one. That's going to inspire you to rap. You got to remember, music is a powerful thing. Absolutely.
Starting point is 02:34:04 Now, you can ask somebody to get on all you want, but if the music speaks to you, it's nothing to talk about. Wait, but this is the exception to the rule that you don't want opinion. You don't show the music. Yeah, but I'm playing on my whole album. So it's the exception to the rule. Right. No, no, no.
Starting point is 02:34:18 I'm asking for an opinion. I'm playing on my whole album, but I'm also telling him, you do know I need you. Right. So I'm pointing to the one I need. Right. But he, so let me just skip real quick. At the end of me playing my whole album, he told me I made my best album. What?
Starting point is 02:34:36 This one. Hov said I made my best album. Wow. He proud of me. Wow. He said, you really did your thing, and this is your biggest album. Wow. That's what he told me. Wow. You really did your thing. And this is your biggest album. Wow. That's what he told me.
Starting point is 02:34:48 Right. The record that he's on, I can't even lie to you. Can I tell you the truth? Please. Don't lie to me. You know, the album comes out August 26th. Ho, you know you're my brother. I'm not saying nothing wrong.
Starting point is 02:35:04 You know, he asked for four records. To be on four? After I played him an album. To be on four of them? No, no, no, I didn't say to be on four. He told me to send him four records. I sent him four. He already did a record.
Starting point is 02:35:18 When I sent him the four, he did the record that you're hearing the rumbles about. Right, and he wanted four more? Which is... He wanted three more which is he wanted three more unbelievable did remember i told you yes remember i told you and i'm not taking no talk back you see me blink yet not at all okay no no no i don't want it i don't want to i want other people to say what I want to say. That's how big it is. I'm going to let other people say it.
Starting point is 02:35:48 Well, Lenny S. made it clear. Guru made it clear, too. Guru, yes. And there's other people that heard that. People are flying into my house to hear this. People flying in probably wear hoes. When I was leaving your house, I was hearing Juan mixing a little bit.
Starting point is 02:36:01 I was being very noisy. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. What I'm saying is I gave him four records because he requested four records. I didn't say he's on four records. So far he's on. So that's the one and there's three more.
Starting point is 02:36:15 I said he requested four records. He got on three more. When he said send four records, I sent him four records. Okay. One of them came back. The album comes out August 26th. Last Minute Magic. I don't...
Starting point is 02:36:31 You got lots of records. When you work with Hov and you work with... You don't ask questions. You don't ask questions. You like what Hov likes. I love it! You love what Hov likes. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 02:36:42 So, like... When the verse came back, first of all, I'll be real with you. And, cause it's my record, I don't want any, it's unbelievable. So Lenny heard it first, or? Lenny and Guru obviously heard it immediately. Right.
Starting point is 02:36:58 You know that FaceTime picture that I posted up with me and Guru and Lenny? That's me actually hearing the record and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Right. Yo he's talking that now just it's whole but he's talking okay let me help you out describe the situation for us hold did and when i say hold it that is you're gonna know what whole did it's it's big. It's not only big.
Starting point is 02:37:29 I'm not going to say what I want to say because I'm going to let other people say it. It's one of his best verses. No, no, no. He got too many best verses. We're not going to go there.
Starting point is 02:37:43 But I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. I'm not going there because I don't want to start this rumble. Like, y'all can't have that. When he's talking about ghosts like this, you got to be careful. Is it unbelievable? Is it incredible? Is it?
Starting point is 02:37:59 Yes, it's. The definition of the best, right? Am I crazy or what? Like like so you're saying the right thing i'm just saying this but this is this is more than you expect i remember i told you i don't want to go too deep into it because i want you to get the album august 26 and you're going to understand oh i know what he's saying yes it's definitely in in its and made his catalog like to like if you put a greatest hits out You're gonna put it on there. Yeah, like it's gonna be one of us a big deal I'm gonna y'all say it. I'm gonna y'all say it. Let's establish this on the album right now. We got holes
Starting point is 02:38:38 fully vocals are in We got in we got Drake vocals are in. We got Drake. Vocals are in. Vocals with an S. Are we establishing one vocal, two vocal, three vocal? S. You don't understand English? In Spanish, too. Mutual. Mas.
Starting point is 02:38:57 Jay-Z's suit? Mas. Jay-Z's? No, no, no. Don't try. I'm drunk. Now you're trying to establish it. I told you he did a verse which is unbelievable.
Starting point is 02:39:09 Yes, it's classic. And then Drake's plurals. Yes, it's incredible. Yes, it's everything you heard. The rumbles is out there. Right. It's unbelievable. I pinched myself.
Starting point is 02:39:20 I pinched myself. I listened to it on the way here. I'm going to listen to it on the way back. I'm going to listen to it on the way back. I'm going to listen to it again because it's unbelievable. So we got Jay-Z. We got Lil Baby. We got Drake. We said Drake's.
Starting point is 02:39:35 We got Drake's with an S. And anybody act up will get more. That's my brother. First of all, we can't let Drake connect. It's something special. It's my brother. First of all, we can't drink connect. You know, it's come on. It's something special. It's always special. What's the first one? I'm on one. What's the first one was fed up, fed up. He did like, uh, eight bars on that. It was like, you know, everybody on it. My first time working with him. Um, and then the second one was, yeah, I'm on one. And that's when
Starting point is 02:40:07 the whole shit shifted and changed my life. That's a crazy record. And I'm forever grateful. You know what I'm saying? That's my brother, man. Me and him are really like, we connected.
Starting point is 02:40:21 You know what I'm saying? Right. Family. Not just him, his whole team. Right. We the best OVO. Big up Chubbs. Yeah, Chubbs. Shout out to Chubbs. Future the Prince I'm saying? Family. Not just him, his whole team. We the best OVO. Big up Chubbs. Yeah, Chubbs. Shout out to Chubbs.
Starting point is 02:40:28 Future the Prince. Future the Prince family. Bring them all up. Bring them all up. Right there. Damn. Damn. I ain't gonna lie to you. You gave us everything we needed. And then some. We didn't have to go into no bag that we didn't want to. We didn't have to go to no negative bag. We went straight positive.
Starting point is 02:40:43 There's no negative bag. There's nothing negative over to. We didn't have to go to no negative bag. We went straight positive. Yeah, I mean, you know. There's no negative bag. There's no negative bag. I mean, there's nothing negative over here. We blessed. And like we started off the interview, we love everybody. Yes.
Starting point is 02:40:53 You know. Yes. You can say anything. We love everybody. Right. You know what I'm saying? That's so important. I think we all need to say that.
Starting point is 02:41:02 Yes. You know what I'm saying? This is, you know, right now this world is, you can either get caught up in it or you can help it. Right. That's true. And I want to be one of those guys that can help the world.
Starting point is 02:41:18 I'm a father. I got kids. I want my kids to grow up with love around them. So I have to be an example of it. I can't just preach about it and not show it. That's the type of person I am. So I encourage everybody to love more. Don't take shit too serious.
Starting point is 02:41:39 Protect each other. Protect our brothers and sisters. Protect our art. Support each other. There's no reason our show support each other there's no reason to tear nobody down there's no reason to hate nobody right it's just for what you're wasting your time man use that time to to win more to love more um learn to forgive if it's able to have forgiveness right and if it's not don't make it into nothing else. Lock away.
Starting point is 02:42:07 Keep it moving. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? I'm not a preacher, but I'm talking from a man of experience. I'm talking about life, and I'm talking as a father, too.
