It's your boy, N-O-R-E.
What up? It's DJ E-F-N.
And it's Militain with Crazy Raw.
Happy hour.
Drink Champs. Make something!
Now, since 2012,
but it says he's been active
since 2003. He's says he's been active since 2003.
He's a rapper's rapper.
A man's man.
A fashion icon.
I ain't going to lie.
I seen him jump out the car just now.
It's like, holy moly guacamole.
It's like, that's Andre 3000 and ODB son together.
They are. He's a legend, he's a classic.
And he said one of the best statements I think I've ever heard in the past 10 years.
He said, these young artists won't study the predecessors, the people that came before them, but they put on a pair of Jordans.
I thought that was the best way to describe this young generation.
So in case you don't know what we're talking about, we're talking about the one, the only, impeccable, motherfucking Danny Brown!
Now, I remember when you first came out, and I remember me gravitating towards you, and I remember me feeling like ODB energy, right?
Was you a fan of ODB?
Yeah, of course.
Okay, okay, okay, so it makes sense.
Yeah, definitely.
I mean, when you said that, like, you hit the nail on the head.
ODB, Andre D. Allen.
Yeah, hell yeah.
Okay, now that's a big one for me.
So, yeah, let's take us to the beginning.
When did you start making music?
On the internet When we googled
It said 2012
But then it said you was active
Since 2003
Yeah
So let's break it down
For the people
I mean you know
I've
My first time ever
Rap was like kindergarten
You was a kid right?
Yeah
My dad took me to
Fresh Fest
Get the fuck out of here
Yeah Fresh Fest Wow Get the fuck out of here. Yeah, Fresh Fest.
Wow.
Yeah, it was like LL.
He a famous DJ.
It was like LL Cool J, Run DMC.
And he said, I ain't even watched the concert.
I just started mimicking everything they was doing on stage.
Get out of here.
And just started rapping.
And then, like, maybe, like, you know, I was in kindergarten.
So maybe, like, not too long after, it was like show and tell.
And I ain't had nothing to show or tell because I wasn't paying attention in class.
So I just went up in front of the class and I rapped.
And then all the kids was just like clap.
They stood up and started clapping and shit.
So I was like, damn, that's the only thing I'm good at.
So I just kept it going, you know?
Now, one thing, I'm going to be honest with you.
Listening to your music, the one thing that I regret is that I didn't know you back then
because I wanted to take an ecstasy and hang out with you back then.
I'm sorry,
did I go too far?
No, no.
Because I'm listening
to your music
and it's like,
you talk about E.E.
and I'm not going
to lie to you.
It seemed like you
was a super fun guy.
Oh, yeah.
I mean,
you know,
now, obviously,
I'm older now, man,
so I've calmed down a lot,
you know,
but, you know,
trial and error,
you know, so and error You know
So I had my fun
The party's over now
The party's over
The party's over now
It's a different kind of party
Yeah
So describe Detroit
Detroit
Yes for us
I mean
Detroit's hard man
Detroit is hard
I ain't gonna lie to you
It was just real hard
It wasn't really too many
You know
I grew up in the 90s
So
It wasn't really too much
It wasn't even
like no outlets and nothing like that like even me for wanting to be a rapper you know it wasn't
like i can go downtown and get a record deal it wasn't even like even with eminem being that big
so so for people who don't know Like Detroit at one point
Was the motor city right
It was like
And then
The factories
Yeah
I mean
And then it just
I remember
I think I told this story before
But I remember one time
I was in Detroit
And I left the show
And I remember me going like
Back to the hotel
And like for the
Like
The half of a mile Going back to the hotel and for the half of a mile going
back to the hotel, no lights was out.
I mean, no lights was on.
It was just pitch black and I was just like,
holy shit.
This is
America.
It's not like Baghdad or something.
I don't know if Baghdad got lights or not.
But describe people in Detroit.
I mean, it's like a lot of people earlier you know, earlier in like the 60s and stuff,
because even like a lot of my family, they came from the South.
So a lot of people was moving from the South to get those jobs to work at the big three,
you know, Chrysler, GM, Ford, and all that.
They were stable jobs.
Yeah, like my grandma took care of my whole family just from one GM job, you know.
Brought all her kids' houses, you know.
So we was all raised up through that.
So that was almost like the goal.
Right.
You know, you live in Detroit.
You just want to be able to get into one of those factories.
But then they start taking all those jobs out, you know.
And then, you know, like, white flight happened, you know.
Yeah.
Like, that's what a lot of people don't understand.
Like, Michigan is great.
Right.
You know, Detroit just fucked up.
Wow.
And even though-
You know, Flint is fucked up, too.
Yeah, Flint. You know, you still got, like, Pontiac, you know, Inkster, Detroit just fucked up. And even though- Flint is fucked up too. Yeah, Flint,
you know,
you still got like Pontiac,
you know,
Inkster, Ypsilanti,
like there's a lot of,
but that's still like,
you know,
but like most people
like in Michigan,
it's like a lot of
nice places still to live,
you know?
Yeah.
You'll get a big mansion
for two million.
Yeah, hell yeah.
I've been thinking about it,
I've been thinking about it,
but I don't like the cold.
It's the weather, yeah.
That's the only thing, you know, Michigan cold is different. As I got older, man, I've been thinking about it But I don't like the cold It's the weather Yeah That's the only thing
You know Michigan cold
Is different man
As I got older man
I can't take it no more
So where you live now
In Hollywood
I live in Austin Texas
Austin Texas
Oh shit it's hot
Yeah
Let's make some noise for you
Yeah
I mean they say
Keep Austin weird
So I had to go
Where the people love me man
Hold on hold on
I'm not gonna lie
It's a music town
Yeah yeah
Are you the first black person
that I know that live in Austin?
There's some niggas there.
There's some niggas there.
There's some niggas there, but...
You know, I'm flipping around.
Only two people that I knew
that lived in Phoenix, Arizona
was Ice-T and fucking DMX.
So you are now officially my Austin.
Coochie Rap lives in Arizona too, right?
Coochie Rap lives in Arizona. You are correct Coochie Rap lives in Arizona, you are correct.
And Sammy the Bull, but we don't claim him.
I don't think we should, right?
I don't know.
It's different.
Tell my rappers right now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So let's talk about your relationship with Kendrick Lamar.
Mm-hmm.
You guys came up together, correct?
Yeah, in some sense, yeah.
Okay, let's break it down.
I feel like he's probably got to start it a little bit before me.
Like, I mean, you know, coming from Detroit and coming from L.A., that's two different worlds.
You know, you went to Hollywood, you know?
Right.
And just the West Coast alone, you know, just having that market.
It's a big, you know, it's a bigger market, you know?
And then I really don't really fit in anywhere.
I'm not like the typical Detroit rapper, you know?
Oh, okay, okay. You fit into the Detroit rapper. Okay, okay, okay. Yeah, like, just with
Midwest music in general. So, I
just really didn't fit in anywhere.
But, yeah, we always just being fans
of each other, you know? I feel like K-Dawg, yeah,
he's like one of the best rappers ever, you know?
Yeah, and so are you, brother. Thank you.
Thank you.
Where did you pull your influences from that you think made
you different than other artists that are coming out of your area?
Me, like my favorite rapper ever is Nas, you know, but I feel like you always start.
You always when you start rapping, you know, you always just try to be who you like, you know.
And so it was a long time where I was just trying to rap like him.
But I started to discover like other hip hop that wasn't being played on the radio and stuff like that, you know?
So I really got big into like, you know, the whole like Def Jux and like Rockus.
What?
So the underground, the backpack scene?
But like one of my biggest influences is like Dizzy Rascal from the UK.
Oh, wow.
So I got real heavy into like UK grime stuff because, you know, my dad was a house DJ.
So I grew up around electronic music my whole life.
Like we didn't even party to like top 40 rap when you went out in Detroit.
We listened to like ghetto tech and like underground resistance and stuff like that.
So I always grew up on like, you know, ass and titties and shit like that.
That was my mixtapes, you know.
So when I heard like Dizzy Rascal, it was like hearing that grime shit.
It was like electric, you know, people rapping rapping over more of electronic style beats and shit.
I ain't never heard nothing like that before.
So when I heard that, it was like a light bulb went off in my head.
So I just was studying his shit and then just got more and more into other UK artists and shit,
like The Streets and Kano.
So UK definitely played a big role.
It was even to the point where I couldn't buy those albums in Detroit.
So I was coming out to New York, and that tower in Times Square,
they had a UK section.
So I was like, I used to catch the Greyhound bus out here.
I used to be working in Queens.
And I used to catch the Greyhound bus, and as soon as I got off the bus,
I would go raid the UK section and just grab mad CDs and shit.
You know, that's what's unique about you is me and you share something that's very similar.
You sound nothing like your favorite artist.
My favorite artist is Granddaddy RU.
And if you listen to me, you cannot understand how is that my favorite artist, which lets me know that you, contrary to popular belief,
you might have belonged in the 90s.
Yeah, no, I definitely would say that.
I mean, I didn't really get no traction like that until I was 30.
But I would admit that in my 20s, you know,
it was more so just rapping to try to get a record deal.
I still didn't find myself yet.
It didn't find myself yet right
it didn't start working to me until i stopped giving a fuck about what other people thought
about my music you know that's what i like because because the most you know you play your shit for
your friends and shit they'd be like man that shit sucks you know what i'm saying so you want a big
shit that they like right but once i got you know because i started to realize like man the music i
listen to ain't on tv or on the radio so i just started to Pull my influences from that
And it's like
You know it's one thing
To be influenced from somebody
But you gotta remember
That whole era
Early 90s
It was always about
Not biting
Right
Exactly
Which is I think
You kind of like did that
It was like
No he did
One main percentage
Right
You couldn't bite
You couldn't do that shit
You're one of the most unique people
I've ever met
Go ahead continue
Yeah you couldn't bite
You know what I'm saying
Which I feel like
That's what played a lot Into what's going on in hip hop now.
It's all our faults.
Right.
We say it all the time.
We drop the ball.
It's 90s generation.
We do claim it.
We drop the ball.
Yeah, because it was that whole era you couldn't bite.
Right.
And then it got to the point where.
Go ahead and bite everything.
You couldn't know.
You couldn't be a player hater.
So then people just started being like, yeah, you kind of suck, but I ain't going to say it. I ain't going to be no hater. Right. You know what I'm saying? So then you couldn't be a hater. You couldn't be a player hater So then people just started being like Yeah he kinda suck but I ain't gonna say
I ain't gonna be no hater
So then you couldn't be a hater you couldn't bite
So now this is where we at now
You know
Like the one of the most things I hate
When you get like
Somebody like a lyrical rapper or something
But I don't listen to lyrical music
You be like what the fuck you mean
You just don't wanna hear nobody better than you
You know I never heard a body that was like A fan of basketball be like, what the fuck you mean? You just don't want to hear nobody better than you.
I never heard a body that was like a fan of basketball be like, I don't like the niggas that
dunk.
I really love role players,
man, that just hustle.
That don't exist.
I really love the bench players.
You know what?
Things are like that.
Now, another thing
That
I relate to you
Is you was on an XXL cover
Right
And
But you probably don't know
And I'll reiterate it to you
That first cover
Of artists being on
The cover together
You know who was on
The very first one?
I'm assuming you're going to say you.
Of course I'm going to say you.
Man.
It was on The Source.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Elliot Wilson, I believe, did it on The Source.
Elliot Wilson left The Source, went to XXL,
and he started the freshman class.
So I was on the cover when it wasn't even called the freshman class.
Yeah, yeah.
But looking at these people on the cover, can we read the people, names that was on the cover?
I know Iggy is there.
Yeah, it was like Future.
Future?
Wow.
Machine Gun Kelly.
Why you not looking?
You got it all in your head?
All right, come on.
You ain't that good.
Who?
Machine Gun Kelly is on there.
Yeah, Thompson.
Iggy Azalea, who I like.
I think Iggy's hard.
Go ahead
Kid Ink
Who else?
Macklemore
Macklemore
Yo how does it feel?
Well it was a great time
What year was that?
That was
Yeah
2012
I mean it's cool
To get a knowledge
For something like that
You know
Right
So it's just you know
Everybody want to get
Their props you know
Were y'all there together
Yeah yeah
We did the shoot together
And stuff
Freestyle and all that
You got freestyled
Yeah yeah
But you know
It still was like
I still was just like
I just don't fit in
You felt awkward
In that photo shoot
Yeah I just felt
Just you know
I don't know
Why you was high?
Yeah, at that time, of course.
But that's not what he means.
But I just, I don't know.
I just didn't really, but I was happy to get it, you know,
but I was just like, man, you know, I couldn't believe it.
It was like, dang, I don't know, you know.
Is that your way of fitting in is not feeling like you fit in?
Um, I guess.
I mean, I don't know.
I just never really, I always just feel like I'm too old for the young niggas and too young for the old niggas.
You know, I'm too black for the white niggas, too white for the black niggas.
You know what I'm saying?
It's like, so I just never really.
I'm going to be honest.
It makes a lot of sense.
I'm going to be honest with you
I feel the same fucking way
So
I always say
I'm too Puerto Rican
For the Puerto Ricans
And I'm too black
For the blacks
Cause I'm half black
And half Puerto Rican
But
Is that a defense mechanism?
I mean yeah
You gotta have that
I believe it
But I always still
I always looked at it like
Shit these niggas
Can't fuck with me
On this rap shit though So I always had that Confidence about myself Like I still can rap Better than Shit these niggas can't Fuck with me on this rap shit So I always had that
Confidence in myself
Like I still can rap
Better than all these niggas
So I don't really give a fuck
You know
Now I want to get to
What I said in the intro
I thought when I heard you
Say that on the internet
When you said
I don't understand how
These young guys
Will go buy Jordans
But they won't go
Yeah
Cause my whole shit was
Cause they always be like
You know
If it's newer it's better
You just don't get it
Kind of shit
You know
But it's like
Y'all niggas ain't wearing Lebrons
You know what I'm saying
And that's
Nobody wears Steph Curry
We love
We like Steph Curry
I mean he's under armor
You know what I'm saying
Under armor
We ain't fucking with the under armor
I'm sorry
Go to the night
Switch your shit up Steph
I'm sorry At the end of underarm stuff I'm sorry Go to the diamond Switch your shit up Steph I'm sorry
At the end of the day
I still
You know
I don't want
Nothing negative
To be taken out of that
You know
I just really wish
That they would
You know
But it's all our fault too though
Yeah
I'm glad you
You're claiming it
The young niggas
Be feeling like niggas
Is hating on them
And it's like you know
But they get
I get old too
So once they get old They gonna be hating On the young niggas too That's what stupid about age You know it's like you know But they get old too So once they get old
They're going to be hating
On their young niggas too
That's what stupid about age
You know what's crazy
The goal is to get old
You know what's crazy
I'm going
I'm going to take claim
To this one
No older person
Ever reached out to me
When I was in the game
So I didn't feel obligated
To reach out to any young person
And by the way
That is my fault I was supposed to be better I didn't feel obligated To reach out to any young person And by the way That is my fault
I was supposed to be better
Than the people
Who had came before me
So I definitely got to take
Because I remember me
And I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be
I'm going to be It felt like that. So then I became the old nigga. I was like, oh, shit, I didn't even know that. See, I came in, but I didn't really come in until I was 30.
So I came in with a chip on my shoulder anyway.
Like, shit, y'all niggas been fronting on me.
I'm nice.
You know what I'm saying?
So I had a chip on my shoulder anyway.
But I really do like, I mean, a lot of the shit the young niggas is doing is cool.
Who you listening to?
I listen to like a lot of Hyper Pop.
No, I don't really listen to.
What is Hyper Pop?
I don't know what that is.
Like a Honey Gex and like Frost Children. I'm going to act like I know what you're talking about. No, I don't really listen to... What is Hyper Pop? Yeah, I don't know what that is. Like 100 Geeks and like Frost Children.
I'm going to act like I know what you're talking about.
No, we still don't know.
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know.
I think ever since I've been like, got like sober and shit, I just can't really listen
to like a nigga talking about fucking my bitch and how much more money he got than me.
I just don't want to hear that shit no more.
I ain't going to shoot me.
I'm like, I ain't got time for this shit no more.
But I used to love that shit.
But now it's just like I can't really hear
That shit no more
You heard Ye
Your new album
Kanye
Yeah
Yeah I checked it out
My homie JPEG on there
So
Yeah
But I can't say a lot
Of mainstream stuff
Like that really
You know
Tickle my fancy
Okay
I'll be an artist
And we noticed
You got jeans
On your
Your jacket
Yeah I mean
That's a jean jacket that's a real jean jacket
i'm a jean jacket guy but you took it to the fullest he said we're gonna make a real jean
jacket put us on what is that um it's actually my homie done by doug he does like custom pieces
for me and stuff so that is definitely that is the most unique shit i've ever saw i mean you
can actually unsnap this and zip these up and make pans out of it if you want.
Oh, shit.
What's his name?
Dumb by Doug.
He's in LA.
Dumb by Doug?
Shout out Dumb by Doug.
He making Transformer clothes.
Yeah, yeah.
He with that sewing machine, man.
He with that sewing machine.
So what made you want to get sober?
Oh, I was just fucking up.
I was just fucking up.
I mean, after a while, you know, you're doing this shit for so long.
You know, a lot of people don't really realize the root of it.
You know, you start getting fucked up.
It started out for fun.
You're just having fun with it.
But then you find yourself fucking doing blow, getting drunk,
drinking a fifth a day by yourself.
And you're like, why am I really doing this?
You know?
What about the blow part? I got this you know so how do you and and by the way I admire
you you know I mean congratulations on the surprise I mean it's almost been a year so I'm
still a baby in it but you know so I'm not being too overconfident right right why I just still
take it day by day because it's to each his own But
I want to ask you
Like
Cause for people
Who probably need
What you went through
How do you still have fun?
I don't
Really?
I don't
Man that's
A lot of
This is a guest
Holy shit
Like I mean
But I'm 42 years old
The fun got to be done
Or you gonna die
You get what I'm saying?
Like my fun was deadly You get what I'm saying? My fun was deadly.
You get what I'm saying?
I was like a living skydiver.
You know what I'm saying?
You can't keep jumping out the plane every day.
You got to do it every blue moon
and be like, oh, I live it.
I get why I'm living.
You ever been to Columbia?
Nah.
That's what I'm saying.
It might be different if I was coming there right now.
Ain't nothing but these fentanyl packs.
Motherfuckers, they're dropping fucking with that shit now, you know?
But I think it was getting that pure.
This is Buddha?
No, I ain't going to lie.
I feel like Drake Chastity just got to go to Columbia.
Just one trip and just get it out of our system.
I already went and I got it out of my system. I already went, and I got it out of my system.
Let's go again.
Let's go again.
What's your favorite place that you've ever been to?
My favorite place that I've ever been to, or just in general?
In general, yeah.
I mean, just being a fan of London, you know?
Yeah, how was that, after you've been such a fan of the music?
No, just London.
Okay.
Shortage, you know? Yeah. How was that after you being such a fan of the music? No, just London. Okay. Shortage, you know?
I mean,
it's just,
just being such a fan of the music,
you know,
and seeing,
you know,
what,
what makes them tick and just that whole,
you know,
so I,
I just like being,
but I,
I like going places that I'm really like,
I used to take like,
um,
I call them like rapper vacations,
you know,
like any,
any style of music that I was really into.
I would just go out into the city and just try to see what makes them come up with that shit almost like you
know like a backpacking adventure just go around like i went to like houston and just chilled out
there for a minute because i was just super into they shit so you didn't get a trail burger no that
was way before trail burgers you know but just i hung out with paul wall you know okay and you know
just yeah so I like taking
Little trips like that
Somewhere like New Orleans
You know
See the jazz scene
And shit like that
You know
Or even Nashville
And just go fuck with
Some country shit
You know
Cause I take influences
From every genre of music
And I just mix it
Into my shit
I love that
I love that
I love that
I can't
There's certain music
I can't fuck with
Like what? I ain't gonna say it Oh okay I mean You ain't gonna There's certain music I can't fuck with Like what?
I ain't gonna say it Oh okay
You ain't gonna get me
In trouble
I mean
I feel like
I feel like there's a lot of shit
That I couldn't get into
When I was a kid
But
It's all about your ears maturing
Like even something
Like country music
You're like man
I don't get this shit
But since I've been in Texas
You know
It feels like everything
Has hip hop in it now
Like every genre
Has a hip hop version of it
I'd be liking that
Old foundational shit though
I like doing my homework
Like that
But even now
I find the beauty in country
Now just
You know
When I was drinking
Getting drunk
Getting in the Uber
Coming back
They playing some country shit
You like
Oh this nigga really
Talking some gangster shit
He gonna fuck this bitch up
Country music is
Country music is
Gangster music on the floor
Yeah
They be getting depressed
And shit too
And everybody cheats
The girl cheats in country Right Everybody girl cheats in country Yeah. They be getting depressed and shit, too. And everybody cheats.
The girl cheats in country.
Right.
Everybody girl cheats in country music.
And they always getting drunk on the song, too.
Yeah, they be getting fucked up. Yeah, they be talking about guns.
And whiskey, too.
They be drinking hard shit.
Yeah.
What you like more, performing or making the record?
I like making the record more.
I'm more of a writer than I am anything.
The writing aspect is what I'm in.
That's why these motherfuckers be talking about, like, man, I don't be writing.
I'm like, motherfucker, because you can't read.
You know what I'm saying?
That's why.
Y'all niggas ain't been to school.
These niggas are dumb.
There's a lot of dumb rappers, though.
You know?
These niggas don't write because they can't read.
But I like the writing part, man, because's nothing better than You know you write a song
And you record that shit
And you just keep playing it back
You're like
Well I'm about to kill
These niggas with this shit
And you just get that vibe
And then you know
You see the end
Yeah you see the end result
When you're on stage
And you're like
I knew I was right
This shit fire
You know
So I like that part
More than anything
It's like knowing
Like trusting your instinct
Like man
I know I got some shit
You know what I'm saying
Has it Have it been a time That you were wrong on a record All the time It's like knowing, like trusting your instinct. Like, man, I know I got some shit. You know what I'm saying?
Has it been a time that you were wrong on the record?
All the time.
All the time.
Because I got a way more mature ear than an average listener.
Right.
So the shit that I can make and be like, oh, this shit crazy.
You know what I'm saying?
But the good thing about that is that I make shit that I feel like it stands the test of time, you know?
Right.
So shit could be like 10 years later, you hear that shit and you're like, oh, this shit still kind of crazy now, you know?
So it's all about just not trying to make something just so trendy and just getting caught up and just making my own shit, you know?
That's why I don't really feel like none of my music really aged like that, you know?
Let's talk about, you got your own show.
Yeah.
The Danny Brown Show.
Yeah, the Danny Brown show
What made you do that?
I was just
Friends with Tom Segura
And
He sounds rich
Yeah he definitely is rich
But
Are you guys doing it together?
No I'm on his network
Oh dope
So I did his podcast
And then he just was
He always
We used to talk on the phone
And stuff
He's always telling me
Like man you need to do
Your own podcast man
Your personality is crazy
And I was like man
You know
Anybody can just set a camera
Up in their fucking room
And start talking shit
Which everybody does now
But I was like
I liked the way they work
And you know
They got a high production value
And shit
So I was like
Is that the guy from
Fool's Gold
No that's 8-Track
That's 8-Track
That's Brett Tomey man
The comedian
Tom Segura
That's how you got on
Rogan through him
Yeah yeah yeah
So I was just like
You know I'd do it
If I do it with y'all
You know
And then
You know I was dating
A girl in Austin
So I was going out there
A lot
Seeing her
And then he told me
He was moving to Austin
So I was like
Fuck it
I'm moving to Austin too
How did you guys connect
And we put it together
I had
Just being a fan of his show
So you know
He reached out to me Had me on show, and I did good on there.
He was like, man, you funny, man.
You should do this shit.
And then, you know, they always tell me I need to be doing comedy and shit, but, you know, I'm still.
Yeah, because comedians be doing music.
Yeah, but.
That's why we can't.
I don't like sucking at shit, you know.
How many comedians in music?
Where'd you get that from?
Jamie Foxx, brother.
Got one.
That's enough.
I mean, at Murphy. At Murphy, at party all the? Jamie Foxx, brother. Got one? That's enough. I mean, at Murphy,
we had a party all the time.
Yeah, a party all the time.
That's enough.
That's enough.
But you know comedy, man,
you're going to have to bomb
for like 10 years, man.
I bombed 10 years in rap.
I ain't trying to go
through that turmoil again.
But T.I. doing great.
Yeah, T.I. doing great.
Yeah, he's doing great.
I ain't going to lie.
I mean, but he just
talk funny anyway. You know what I'm saying? Like, he's going to lie. I mean, but he just talk funny anyway.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, he can say normal shit and it'll be funny.
And nobody don't understand because, you know, he uses so much big words.
You just laugh anyway.
Yeah, that shit is going to be funny.
Because you don't understand what word he just used.
That was hard.
So, I mean, but the thing is about comedy, ain't no ageism in that.
So, if I decide to do it when I'm 50, you know, that'd be one thing.
But right now.
So, you're going to try and do this to end the problem?
Oh, yeah, definitely.
I mean, I feel like you got to...
When I got, like, these top-tier motherfuckers
keep coming to me like,
man, you funny as fuck.
You need to do comedy.
You need to do comedy, you know?
So you can't keep having motherfuckers
that do that shit tell you
you need to be doing that shit
and just not take their advice, you know?
I was at Dave Chappelle yesterday,
and I was telling him how happy I was
that comedy is in a turmoil right now.
I was like, I just want to prove to the world that not only rappers beef.
I was like, I like that you can be beefy.
No, them motherfuckers always be beefy though.
You get it?
You going to?
No, it was behind the scenes.
Yeah, yeah.
You being in the green room.
I was laughing at Dave.
It's way in front of the scenes now.
He was like, yo, what's wrong with you and Fat Joe?
I was like, I like comedians I'm beefing
Fuck that
Y'all go guard each other
And Dave was laughing at me
But I like that
Yeah it's always
Competition with them
You be in them
Green rooms man
Them motherfuckers
Always talking shit
About each other
So this ain't nothing new
So if you was to host
A comedy show
Where would you hold it at
If I was to host
A comedy show
I mean to do Your own comedy show Your first stand Where would you want to do it at I was the host of comedy shows? I mean Do your own comedy show
Your first stand
Where would you want to do it at?
I mean obviously Austin
Because that's where it's cracking at
You know
They obviously have
Detroit?
I thought you would have said Detroit
Detroit's a different type of comedy
You know
I mean
They're going to heckle you and shit man
Them niggas don't know how to act
You know
In Austin
They're going to have a little respect
You know
They know you're just trying to work it out
They know you're trying to work it out You know Austin Austin They're trying to throw a little respect. They know you're just trying to work it out. They know you're trying to work it out.
You know, Austin is trying to go throw some shit at me.
Yeah, nigga, you suck.
Nigga, get the fuck out of here, you know?
So I ain't got time for that.
I ain't going to lie to you too often.
I ain't going to lie to you.
Everything you just said.
Can I get another drink, Jamie?
Holy moly.
Austin is having like a comedy renaissance right now.
You know, everybody's moving There to do comedy
I'm not gonna lie to you
You go out every night
You seeing crazy shit
You know
Every time I went to Austin
My sneakers came back
Back
You never want
You never want to go to
South by Southwest
No I don't want to
Because my sneakers
They always step on my sneakers
I actually wore some
Deadstock foam posits one time
And the sole came off
Because it was so hot
I was like, fuck,
that's why you can't be wearing these 1998 sneakers.
You know what I'm saying?
It's the best year of my life, 1998.
It's my favorite year of my life, 1998.
Okay, moving
on. Let me get to my...
Give them the flowers, man. Oh, yes. Our show is
about giving people their flowers.
Why they can smell them, their thoughts,
where they can think them, and their drinks, where they can drink them. So we wanted to give you face-to-face man-to- their flowers. Why they can smell them, their thoughts where they can think them, and their drinks
where they can drink them.
So we wanted to give you
face-to-face man-to-man flowers.
Yeah, man.
Thank you so much.
Snoop Dogg said
it's better than a Grammy
because it comes
from his own people.
I ain't going to lie,
you rode the shit out of this.
This is a good blunt right here.
But no, Noreen,
motherfuckers need to give you
your flowers too, man.
It's your day, my brother.
Let me just say something.
I'm going to tell you, man, you It's your day my brother I'm gonna tell you
You changed a lot of shit man
When you first came around
You changed the whole perception of what a New York rapper could be
Everybody thought
Even though I hate that term lyrical miracle shit
But you came in with a whole different perspective
I feel like you was the first nigga with ad libs
You know what I'm saying
You can see a lot of Noreen
They come behind me And guess what I'm saying? You can see a lot of Norian hip hop right now. You Gucci Mane and Jeezy, they come behind me.
That's a fact.
And guess what?
I brung Pharrell.
I brung all of y'all godfathers.
Because Pharrell has
a whole generation of people.
100%.
And I'm very proud of Pharrell.
Even though I don't,
and I brung Swiss Beasts too
and Scott Storch,
but I don't exactly love
the cowboy gear.
No, I fuck with the cowboy shit
I mean, me, me personally
I was in Texas, you know
Everything, you in Austin
You gotta wear something
I was wearing the cowboy shit for a minute
You was wearing the cowboy shit?
But then them cartel niggas started pulling up on me
Like, man, who you work with?
I'm like, oh shit, this shit dangerous
You like, I'm a nigga?
Yeah, this is like gangbanging
I had to stop that shit
I just thought it looked cool
Oh, you know, go deep, man
I was like, I had to stop doing that shit That thought it looked cool Oh you know Goldie man I was like I had to stop doing that shit
That's crazy
Yeah
Hell yeah
Holy moly
I didn't tell you
He fucked me up just now
They like
Why this nigga wearing
This cowboy shit everywhere
Who you work with
I'm like shit nigga
I just thought it looked cool
Yo
Hip hop
I know it sounds like a cliche question
But
I'm going to ask
Do you ever think hip-hop would be
As big as it is?
You said you're 42
You're around
Yeah
I mean
Is it though?
Like I feel like we take
It's like a
One step forward
Two steps back
Kind of thing
You know
Nah
Financially it it's huge.
But could it be better?
But they always putting the money in the wrong pockets, you know?
Because you know what?
You know what?
I even look at Afro beats and reggaeton.
I all look at it as versions of hip hop.
Yeah, I mean, as far as the influence, then yeah.
I mean, but niggas is always cool, you know?
So they always going to bite the shit. I mean, you knowas is always cool You know So they always Gonna bite the shit
I mean you know
But
I don't know man
I think
I just wish it was more
Emphasis on creativity
Than anything else
You know
Like
Cause right now
It's just like
Copy and paste
You know
You see some shit work
You're like
Alright I'm doing that shit too
Then it work
And then niggas don't even
You know
I need to be more
Gatekeeping around this Motherfucker When you have the regions Losing their sound That's a problem Yeah Like alright I'm doing that shit too Then it worked And then niggas don't even You know I need to be more gatekeeping
Around this motherfucker
Yeah when
When you have the regions
Losing their sound
That's a problem
Yeah
Everybody look the same
Everybody talk the same
You know what
You can hear the same sound here
And go to Asia
And hear the same sound
You know I gotta
I gotta agree with you
In totality
Um
There was an era in New York
Where New York was trying to sound
Like the South
And I could not stand it
I could not stand it
I just
I even did it
I mean but you still got certain places
I'm so disappointed in myself
There's still certain places that stick to their guns
Like you go to like Louisiana
Or like you know
Memphis
You know they still gonna do they shit
You know
But
But on a large scale
To be honest
That's just the internet though
The internet just made
The world smaller you know
Right
And it brought a lot of people
Who probably wouldn't have been
Artists into the fold
Yeah
A lot of motherfuckers
Don't even know why they rap
You get what I'm saying
They just like
Fuck it man
This shit cool
I'ma do this shit
Just like how everybody's
An influencer now
Everybody was a rapper
At one point
And that's the same thing
It continues that cycle
Yeah I remember
Being a rapper was cool.
Now being a rapper is like, so?
Yeah.
Like, I remember I could get pulled over and say, I'm a rapper.
I'm almost embarrassed to say it.
Yeah, I want to say I'm a drug dealer at some point.
Like, if the police pulled me over, I'd say, I sell drugs.
Yeah, like.
I don't want to say I'm a rapper.
They're like, all right, pull you over.
If you say you're a drug dealer, it's like, good.
Because it's almost a thing.
Like, if you got to tell somebody you're a rapper, are you really a rapper To pull you over If you say you're drunk It's like Cause it's almost a thing Like if you gotta tell somebody
You're a rapper
Are you really a rapper?
Are you really a rapper?
They should have known you already
Yeah
Like so
You know
It's just like one of those things
But to be honest
I still
I do like the fact
Cause as a person
That took me so long
To get into it
You know
How easy
I'm not saying it's easy
But
You know
You can make some shit And the people fuck with it You own You know how easy, and I'm not saying it's easy, but you know you can make some shit.
And the people fuck with it, you own, you know?
So you ain't got to go through all these pipelines and shit like that, how it used to be before, you know?
Right.
So I do like that part of it, you know?
All right.
I'll tell you, I'll tell you, I come from the era where I'm 46
I come from the era where
You couldn't get to London
Unless you brung London your record
There was no email
There was no like
You couldn't break into it
In order to break into a country
A city, a town
You had to actually physically be there
So nowadays you could just
You could just literally press one button,
and that shit would be in London.
That shit would be in Japan.
That shit would be in Düsseldorf, Germany.
What do you think about that?
I mean, I love that in some sense because, like,
me, a person that wanted to do a particular style
and, you know, had this idea in my head,
and I was able to work with like a London producer,
shout out to Paul White.
I worked with him
for like 10 years
before I even met him.
Wow.
You know?
Wait, you worked with him
before you met him?
Yeah, just emails.
Oh, okay.
He just sent me a pack of beats
and we did like,
you know,
he on every album I've made
since I've been around,
you know,
so just being able
to connect with somebody
that I still felt like
we had that same ear with music, you know, more just being able to connect with somebody that I still felt like we had that same ear with music,
you know, more so than me just having to work
with a motherfucker that's around the corner from me
that, you know, couldn't even understand
the type of shit that I'm into, you know?
So for that part, yeah,
it definitely helped make my music better.
But that's different from what you're saying
because the network is dope
that you can network with anybody around the world.
That's beautiful.
And create those connections and relationships.
What you're saying about setting the record, the same time that one record that's being pressed and it's going across the world, there's a million records at the same time going across the world.
And it's different from building relationships to just trying to get it out to people.
Right.
It's oversaturated.
Yeah, I agree.
That's what I'm saying.
What I was saying is the good part of that.
Right.
And I think that's Kind of the bad part
The good part is
The relationship building
Being able to talk to
Anybody around the world
And connect
Now we always talk about
This on the show
Is in the 90s
We couldn't send people emails
We couldn't
What we had to do was
We had to bring
A two inch rail
To your studio session
Do you think the music
Is better because
People were in the studio together as
opposed to people sending features?
I think the music
was better because limitations
breed creativity.
And now you can fucking, everything
is just so easy to do. Even just like the
drum machines motherfuckers got now.
The type of shit
Dilla was doing or
Primo and all them Type of motherfuckers
You know the type of beats
They was making back then
Man
They was really having to be
Like scientists
Like real like genius
To be making these
Fucking beats
And now
You know you can just
Fucking get fucking
VSTs and plugins
And you know
And just do shit
Oh yeah
All that shit is just
Right there for you
For the take it man
So I think limitations
Breed creativity
So the type of shit
Motherfuckers
Like imagine them
Bomb squad beats
And shit like that
And the shit like
Beasties was doing
And shit
You know
The layers of music
That they were putting together
Like motherfuckers
Ain't even working that hard
To make no music
You know what I'm saying
And the way they had to do it
Back then
Yeah
Analog style
They ain't putting that much work in
You know
And then you
Just the point of
Having studio time
Now motherfuckers
Record shit in their bedrooms You know That's time Now motherfuckers Record shit in their
Bedrooms you know
That's why these
Motherfuckers
Don't write
I mean don't write
You know
Before you had
That shit
You know
You recording on the tape
You had to fuck up
You know you gotta
Do the whole verse back
It wasn't no punching in
And all that shit man
So to be a rapper
Is way easier now
Right
You know
What do you
Fabulous and Nas
Have in common What do me Nas, Fabulous, and Nas have in common?
What do me,
Nas,
and Fabulous have in common?
I mean,
I wouldn't know.
Got your teeth fixed.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Damn, man.
You got me.
Killed that.
You got me.
Killed that.
You got me.
Killed that.
What made you do that?
I mean,
what was the health thing?
That was like,
kind of like,
your signature.
Yeah.
Like,
when people saw you,
you had the missing tooth.
Yeah.
And it was similar to Nas.
I remember Chip Too Smile.
He even said it in a record.
And Fab the same way.
So what made you say, you know what?
It was really a health thing because I didn't have those top teeth for so long.
You know, you constantly biting shit.
Your bottom is working way harder than your tops.
And your bottoms don't supposed to be biting shit
You know what I'm saying
So my dentist was telling me
Like man you about to lose
Your whole fucking bottom row
You keep going like this man
You gotta do
You gotta get you some chompers
Up in that motherfucker man
So
I just had to do it man
You know
You happy with him
I mean
It is what it is
I mean
I can honestly say
I mean I guess
I was gonna do something
For your motherfucker self esteem
It was a time in my life
You know you walk up on a bitch
They be like
You know
Might get a little flavor
As soon as I talk
They be like
Damn why
You know so
She said damn
Yeah
Like damn
Started trying to say
Gangsta shit like
I got pistol whooped
You know
In the streets
Motherfucker just
Came down on a rebound wrong
Elbow be in the mouth
You know
He got a star
Yeah that's how I look
But then I got hit
I got hit by a car
Oh wow
In the KFC parking lot
KFC sent this man a check
KFC sent this man a check
You know
He done sacrificed
For your chicken wings
You know
For your thighs
But yeah
Original or Aspen Krispy
I'm an original guy
I'm original too.
Yeah.
But yeah, it just was a health thing.
I mean, you know.
And you got it.
So now, one thing about you.
Hair color changes.
Sometimes we see you were green.
Sometimes we see you were blonde.
Sometimes we...
It's just...
What is this?
Do you have a hairstylist?
Or this is you?
Are you your own stylist?
Yeah, in some sense.
Yes.
But I don't know.
I just think a lot of people, they just get caught up.
Why?
I think a lot of people be scared.
They look in the mirror and they just be happy with what they see.
Maybe I'm not happy with what I see all the time.
Like, I need to change this shit up.
So I never keep the same hairstyle.
Some people think I got a personality disorder
or something, man. I'm never happy with
myself, so I've always tried to fix some shit.
But no, I just, you know,
a lot of people just get comfortable with the way they look.
I just think I'm never really comfortable.
Or I'm just not scared to take
chances, you know?
I think
that's what's unique about you. Is the weed fucking you know? Nah, I think, I think, um, that's what's unique about you.
Is the weed fucking you up? Nah.
Okay, you sure? I love weed, man. I just can't smoke it,
man. You got your own weed, right? Nah,
I wish. I thought you got your vapor.
Nah, man. I mean,
I, I, I, when I went to rehab, it wasn't
no intentions on me to stop smoking weed,
you know, because I love the weed, but
I just had to realize, man, my
weed bone connected to my drinking bone. My drinking bone connected to my coke bone had to realize Man My weed bone Connected to my drinking bone
My drinking bone
Connected to my coke bone
You know
My coke bone
Connected to my dick bone
And it's just
It's just a gateway
For everything
So
I ain't gonna lie
I felt like that was the hook
I feel like we're gonna
Make a record out of that
You know
So I just had to
Give up everything
I even quit smoking cigarettes
Man
And I was a
Newport pack a day
You know Oh Man I ain't gonna lie He was one of those Just like you Yeah Hey Camote I just had to give up everything. I even quit smoking cigarettes, man. I was a Newport pack a day, you know?
Oh, man.
I ain't going to lie.
He was one of those, just like you.
Yeah.
You know, I had a Newport.
Yeah, I know, man.
I know.
I'm going to be honest with you.
That was probably the most ignorant thing I've ever done, right?
Yeah, yeah.
And I'm going to tell you something, because it really held Newport.
So I went in the elevator
and I'm with this rich white lady that,
by the way,
we still live in the same facility.
And I get in the elevator
and she looks at it.
She's like,
she's disgusting.
And I'm like,
without no like knowledge,
I just opened it up
and I grab a cigarette out
and I put it in
and she was like,
you should have never
gave you niggas money.
That's exactly what they said
when I was saying it.
That's exactly what they said.
And I was the most ignorant.
You know how they say,
you ever spend, like,
dumb money?
That was probably
the dumbest money
I've ever spent in my life.
It was dope, though.
It was hilarious.
I ain't gonna lie,
I killed it. I had the number one rapper's name It was dope, though. It was hilarious. I ain't gonna lie. I killed it.
Yeah, yeah.
You body that shit.
I had the number one
rapper chain at the time.
Yeah.
At the time.
At the time.
You in the jury?
I'm more of a watch guy.
Which watches are you into?
I always, you know,
wanted like,
I used to be really into
like vintage Rolexes.
Vintage?
Yeah, like, you know,
like I used to get like, you know, like I Vintage Yeah like you know Like I used to get like
You know like
I was really into
Like collecting
You know if you
Like certain
Businesses
Like Domino's
You work at
Domino's
Yeah like shit like that
So I was like
Shit like that
But then I just started
To realize that
You can't even go to
The Rolex store
And buy a Rolex
They won't sell
No niggas no Rolex
You know what I'm saying
So it's like Most of these niggas Just wearing second hand Rolexes So then I just Stopped being in the Rolex store And buy a Rolex They won't sell No niggas no Rolex You know what I'm saying So it's like
Most of these niggas
Just wearing second hand Rolexes
So then I just
Stopped being in the Rolexes
And just
So now I'm more of a
Breitling guy
Breitling okay
Cause I understand
I mean you gonna watch that
Do some shit
Breitling's really for pilots
Going to wars and shit
You know what I'm saying
You can't die
With a Breitling on
They'll find you
Yeah
So I like Breitling's now
Like Tag Heuers
Okay wow You know More into those Types of watches now Okay Yeah I ain't gonna lie on. They'll find you. Yeah. So I like Brightlands now, like Tag Hewers. Okay, wow.
More into those type of watches now.
Yeah, I ain't gonna lie.
I'm trying to get
into Grand Seiko. I'm trying to go to Japan.
Yeah. That's where this interview
should have been. We should have interviewed you in Japan.
I've never been to Japan, man. You've never been to Japan?
I mean, I always used to look at those places
like I ain't want to go because I couldn't smoke.
But now since I'm sober, I'm like, I'm with it.
So I turned down a lot of shit
just because I couldn't smoke weed.
Yeah, hang on.
Yeah, dude.
There's not a lot of weed in Japan.
I didn't even look at it like that.
You know what was what in Japan?
For damn near a month,
8 Ball and MJG.
It was Capone and Noriega
and 8 Ball and MJG
did a fucking tour in Japan
for a whole month
and Instagram was not.
So we actually have no like, we we got, like, two pictures.
Right, like, no proof of it.
Yeah, there's no proof of it.
But 8Ball and MJG, obviously, no.
And we want to give the invitation to 8Ball and MJG, man.
Absolutely.
Hey, legends, man.
Coming out hard.
But I'm going to be honest with you. I was always, you know, pause, attracted to you because to me, you have what ODB has had.
And what I'm saying about that is like, it's like the I don't give a fuck attitude, right?
It's like you fuck with me or you don't.
And guess what?
I'm okay with that.
Yeah.
And that to me is dope because most people want people to fuck with them.
Is that something that you did or you plotted or that's something that just came?
Yeah, consciously.
Or that's something that just comes with it?
I think this shit that just happens in your life will kind of make you like that.
And like I said, I didn't really get started in this shit until I was like 30.
By the end, I didn't give a fuck about what nobody thought.
You know, after all this shit that I've been through to get to where I was at.
So I think it's just more so about that.
But even like you said, that could be a defense mechanism in some sense, too.
Because everybody want people to like them, you know.
You know, but it's just like, I don't know.
I just don't give a fuck.
I just really, I like what I like and that's what it is, you know. I can't really, you know, I think that's the problem just don't give a fuck. I just really, I like what I like, and that's what it is.
I can't really, I think that's the problem.
That's not a problem.
No, I'm saying people really care about what other people think and shit.
Right.
You know what I'm saying?
And probably that's why I was probably drinking and shit and getting fucked up so much. Self-medicating.
As a way to fit in or feeling so awkward being in public and shit like that.
You know?
I mean, I wasn't comfortable with myself.
Right.
Type shit, you know?
No, but that's what makes you, and again,
because I'm 46 and you say you're 42,
but you're still part of the younger generation, right?
Which is crazy, right?
But it always seemed like you didn't want to co-sign.
I mean, I did, though. Oh, I mean, I was with Yayo. OK.
I feel like I love that. I read that. We got to talk about that.
Yeah. Yayo was the first person that was in the Queen's studio.
I mean, I was recording in Queens for years before. And then Yayo tried to sign you.
No, Yayo was he's actually I mean, the engineer that worked at that studio, Shots Out the Doughboy,
he had came to Detroit with Yeo when Yeo was shooting that Swap movie.
And they had, you know, they needed some weed and all that shit, you know, so they hit me up.
And I came through and then he just like, you know, my man rapping shit too.
And Yeo was like, let me see some shit.
And I showed him my video, re-up, and he just blacked out.
Did he try to sign you or 50 tried to sign you?
I mean, he just was like.
He brought him to 50.
He just was like, man, you leaving with me now.
Like, I literally left with, he was like, go pack your shit.
I left with Yale like the next day and shit.
And I was with him for like, I mean, it was, I want to say like, I lived with with him for the whole summer kind of shit.
That's crazy.
Yeah, that's crazy.
What would life be like if you think you were signed to 50 right now?
I wouldn't be here right now.
What would you be on, Joe?
No, I'd be like the rest of the motherfuckers that signed.
What is that?
I don't know what this means.
Is that good or bad?
Is that good?
Yeah.
I mean, he had a lot of artists
in that side with him, man.
Nah, I ain't going to lie to you.
I ain't talking about like the G-Unit members,
but like the other motherfuckers, man.
I ain't going to lie to you.
You know, 50's first feature was me.
His first two features was me
and Componera Noriega.
And for me to go from that,
to see him in Nice, France,
I cried.
I cried watching him and Busta Rhymes perform.
And Busta called me, and I don't know if you guys know Busta.
But Busta called me like, what the fuck you leave for?
I was like, yo, I was overwhelmed.
Like watching somebody like a sitter, you know, Busta, my brother.
I mean, I seen 50 come up I was his first feature and to see that shit and to see every generation I'm talking about every race in Nice France it
was just so overwhelming for me I was just like yo I had to believe yeah you know what I mean like
um because I'm proud of hip-hop are you proud of hip-hop like that? Yeah, definitely Okay Definitely What's your proudest moment in hip-hop?
My proudest moment?
I don't know
I wouldn't say I've achieved it yet really
I love that
I would say I still got a lot of shit that I want to do, you know?
I mean, you know, I feel like
I mean, just me being here
To be able like that kid was in fucking kindergarten
Like I want to be a rapper
so me just making it
in general
I'm just proud of myself
for that
you know
yo god damn
I love that shit
God comes to you
and God says
Danny Brown
I want you to make
one record
save your life other than this Danny Brown I want you to make one record.
Save your life.
Other than this, Danny Brown, you're going to hell.
I'm going to give you one producer,
and I'm going to give you one feature.
Who is the producer you're picking,
and who is that feature?
Anybody, dead or alive.
You can pick Bob Marley at the grave.
I mean, the producer
would probably be Jay Dilla.
I love this.
Motherfuckers, too hip-hop.
So it would be probably,
I'd probably have to go
with Jay Dilla.
I mean, if I had to pick a feature,
it would be,
I wouldn't want a feature.
I don't want shit.
I'm saving my life.
Fuck that.
But if I got to pick a feature,
I probably would have to be Nas because that's the one person that inspired me to want to do it, you know? All right. It's two things I lost saving my life. Fuck that. But if I got to pick a feature, it probably would have to be Nas
because that's the one person
that inspired me to want to do it.
It's two things I lost on you tonight.
I bet that you would be on time.
You was 15 minutes late
throwing it out there.
Oh, that wasn't my fault.
I'm always on time.
I'm always on time.
I bet that you would be on time.
I lost.
And I bet that the feature that you would pick, time I lost And I bet that
The feature that you would pick
Do you know which feature
I thought
I thought you would pick Beyonce
For some reason
Oh
I mean
Of course you want to get that hook
But
Cause I felt like
I felt like
I don't know why
I feel like
Danny Brown
Featured Beyonce
I mean I thought in my head
I was like oh yeah
I do need that hook man
I gotta get that Who wouldn't want that You gotta get That heavenly voice on the hook But I mean At saw it in my head I was like oh yeah I do need that hook man I gotta get that
Who wouldn't want that
Who wouldn't want
You gotta get that
That heavenly voice on the hook
But I mean at the end of the day man
Like I said Nas was like
I so dope
The one rapper that I was just like
Fuck I would never be this good
You know
That just humble you
Type shit you know
And then to see what
How he's still doing it now
Right it's incredible yeah
That inspires me
Like I can't
I can't stop
I gotta keep going
No matter what man
Like
Cause at the end of the day
I look at it like
You know I'm like a vessel
Right
You know
I don't know how I come up
With this shit
You know
This is
A God given talent
So when God decides
When this shit stop
I can't never say I quit
I can't never say I give up
Right
You ever met Nas?
Yeah
Okay where at?
The Scriber C.D. And how did you act Yeah. Okay, where at? Describe the scene to me.
And how did you act?
Did you fan out?
I think I bugged him out
because I was talking about doing coke and shit.
He was like,
these young niggas crack heads.
He was like,
these young niggas crack heads.
Yo, don't knock.
He was like,
describe the situation, please.
It was at Mass Appeal.
Mass Appeal office in New York. Okay. Okay. Go ahead. What happened? We was like. All right, describe the situation, please. It was at Mass Appeal. A Mass Appeal office in New York.
Yeah, yeah. Okay, okay.
Go ahead, what happened?
We was just, you know, just kicking it.
I mean, you know.
And you just came up to him and said, you know, I do coke.
No, I, no.
What did you do?
What it was, his homie was with him.
And he know, we know like some people together type shit, you know.
Yeah, I was in the back.
And he was like, yo, we went to Coachella. And I was like, oh yeah, I was in the back room together. And he was like, yo, we went to Coachella.
And I was like, oh yeah, I was in that bitch doing coke.
And it was just that kind of shit.
It was just, you know what it was, to be honest?
I used to take so much fucking Adderall at that time.
And if you take Adderall, you just talk too much.
You don't really have no filter.
Adderall was cocaine's cousin?
Yeah, when you throw some liquor on it.
I mean, it's really it's one
Sonny, you an expert? It's like
it's like one property
Don't act like you don't know nothing. You better relax.
To be honest, it's more closer to meth
than anything. Adderall? Yeah, it's like one property
away from meth, but when you drink
with Adderall, it does turn into like coke.
Okay, okay, I'm sorry.
I just gotta ask.
You never did meth
Fuck no
Okay alright
I mean shit
All the fake molly
I used to take
I probably did
Yeah
So many molly
In meth
Jason
Good stuff with that molly
I probably was doing
In the states
You know
I didn't realize
Who real molly was
To fucking going to Europe
To Amsterdam
No London
London
Really in London
You know you get that Fucking crystal shit Out here and shit Out there They just gave me fucking going to Europe. To Amsterdam? No, London. London? Really in London. Because you know,
you get that fucking crystal shit
out here and shit
being out there.
They just gave me a bag of powder.
I'm like,
what's this powder shit?
Yeah, it's that EFN shit.
And they gave me that powder shit
and I fucking,
I licked my finger
and hit that shit
and they said,
I know the whole bag dissolved.
And I was like,
what the fuck?
So I just did all of it.
What's the next thing you know?
I just did all of it
and they came back to me like, man, you got some of that molly mind.
I'm like, they call it mandy.
You got some of that mandy mind.
I'm like, shit, I did it.
They're like, you did the whole ground mind.
You're going to be fucked, man.
And I was fucked up.
That was a great accident.
I can't do a BK accident.
I was trying.
So you did the whole ground mind.
I was like, yeah, man whole You did the whole Grime mind I was like
Yeah man
I thought I fucked it up
Next thing I know
I just started going
Cookie monster
My eyes couldn't stay still
Then there bit a hole
In my lip
I ain't gonna lie
Cause this sounds
So fucked up
I wish you was
Still getting high
This sounds so fucked up
Cause I don't mean it like that I'm proud of you It's just I wish I was still getting high This stuff is so fucked up Cause I don't mean it like that
Yeah I know what you mean
I'm proud of you
It's just
I wish I could've hung out
With the older version of you
At some point
It was fun
Yeah
Or
I would've got on your goddamn nerves
You'd be like
I can't take this shit
This nigga got his fucking shit
I would've been cool with both
Yeah
I would've been cool with both
So
You being from Detroit
We just had Benzino on our show.
Mm-hmm.
Benzino and Eminem, I don't know what their problem.
I don't get it.
Who side are you on?
I mean, I'm obviously going to ride with my city.
I'm an Eminem guy anyway.
I mean, you know. Yes. I respect that. Okay, moving on. I mean, I'm obviously going to ride with my city. I'm an M&M guy anyway. I mean, you know. Yes.
I respect that. Yeah.
Okay, moving on.
But I still remember the almighty
RSO days. Yeah. Okay, okay.
I know Benzino was more part of it than the
source, you know. Ah, yeah, because we had a
wild one. This is a wild one. Yeah, it's a
crazy one.
People think the trailer. The trailer's nothing.
Nah, it's a tip of the iceberg. It's a wild one. It's a wild one. But it's dope that a trailer. The trailer's nothing. Nah, it's the tip of the iceberg.
It's a wild one, it's a wild one.
But it's dope that he mentioned Almighty RSO.
I know my shit, man.
That's the thing.
I feel like I'm a hip-hop historian, man.
Yes, yes.
Yes.
Quick time?
Let's do quick time with Slav.
Let's do it.
Can you explain him?
I love the show.
I watch this show.
I know what it is.
I watch this shit every Saturday, man.
You got to make somebody to drink for you.
Sonny, you drinking for him?
Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on.
Look, Danny Brown, listen.
You can look around the room.
Who do you want to be your designated drinker?
I mean, I wouldn't want to do that to nobody, you know?
Yeah, you can.
That's our trainer over there, too.
Tommy.
To be honest.
Tommy the trainer over there.
You can have him be your designated drinker.
I mean, whoever want to drink.
That's what it is.
Sonny D, Sonny D. All right, designated drinker. I mean, whoever want to drink. Let's let him drink, man.
All right, sports champs.
Sports champs, Sonny D.
But give Tommy a drink if Tommy want to drink.
Okay.
So he don't got to explain the rules because he said he don't.
You know the rules, right?
All right.
I'll take a shot.
Ready?
Yes.
Tupac or DMX?
Tupac.
That was easy.
And I mean, just because, you know, his influence of what he's done so far.
I mean, you wouldn't get X without Pac.
That's fucking, that was a great explanation.
You know?
I mean, and plus this, with the message he was putting out there, you know, even though
Pac was going wild and shit, but niggas ain't making no dear mamas now.
Niggas ain't making no fucking Brenda's got a baby or none of that shit now.
So, I mean, the closest we got is K-Dot, you know? Right. No dear mamas now Niggas ain't making No fucking Brenda's got a baby None of that shit now So
I mean the closest we got
Is K-Dot
You know
Just talking with that
Fucking social commentary
And that messaging
You know so
I still
I feel like
Once a year
I get a fucking
Pac deep dive
Where I go back
And then you find some shit
Like recently I found
The demo versions
Of Machiavelli
I was like
Fuck
This motherfucker
And then people be
Fronting on Pac, man.
Everybody be always talking about Pac wasn't lyrical and shit like that.
You tripping, man.
Pac was rapping motherfuckers under the table, man.
Yeah, he was.
He had wordplay.
Like, it was just, he had it all, man.
He was a songwriter.
Yeah, he was.
Yep.
Nas or Kiss?
Nas.
And that's just because
Kiss ain't got no better album than Illmatic, you know?
I think Kiss would say that.
If we go 16 for 16,
I'm pretty sure Kiss would, you know,
do his shit, but
I mean, Nas just got that classic album, man.
And to me, he got more than that.
And Stillmatic.
I mean, it was written, you know?
I fucking love Godson. I fucking love the Dutch. I love Street Disciple. I love all that shit, man. I mean, it was written, you know. I fucking love God, son.
I fucking love the double street disciples.
I love all that shit, man.
Man, you from Queens.
Lost Tapes was dopey.
Yeah, the fucking original version of I Am.
I love the fact that you're from Detroit and saying that,
because that's exactly how I feel.
Yeah.
I love that.
I mean, ain't too many motherfuckers better than Nas, though.
Ain't too many motherfuckers better than Nas.
And that's my friend.
Goddamn, this is my motherfucker.
Kendrick or Cole?
Kendrick.
I mean,
he made the Pimple Butterfly,
man.
Yeah.
And that was like,
Is that the album
with him,
the van?
No,
that's the one
in front of the White House
and shit.
Oh,
okay.
In front of the White House
and shit.
But I mean,
that's just because,
I mean,
he just take it too far,
man.
You know what I'm saying?
Like,
anybody that put that much effort into fucking music, man, he just really take it.
But he's just like, some motherfucker's just naturally gifted.
I feel like Cole worked hard to get where he at.
He studied hard.
He rapped hard.
I feel like cuz was just born with that shit, man.
You can't take that.
Did you just say J. Cole?
No, no. No, I feel like Cole, he did his 10,000 hours.
You know what I'm saying?
With K-Dot, I feel like he just was born like that.
Okay.
So you picked Kendrick?
Yeah, I picked K-Dot all day.
Okay.
Pharrell or Kanye?
I got to go with my Filipinos, man.
I'm going to go with Pharrell, man.
Pharrell's Filipino?
Yeah, man. I'm sure. go with Pharrell, man. Pharrell's Filipino? Yeah, man.
I'm sure.
It makes sense to me.
Yeah.
You freestyled that.
You made that up just now.
Pharrell, I mean, that motherfucker's name is Williams.
He's a half Filipino.
I'm Filipino, so I'll let you choose.
Oh, man, he's Filipino.
So he would know.
Oh, no.
Chad Williams is Filipino.
Oh, well.
Chad.
Chad.
I got to go with my Filipinos, man.
Wait a minute.
Find out if Pharrell got it.
No?
Listen, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I was thinking if he is. Since. Wait, is it? Find out if Pharrell got it. No? Listen, I'm not.
I was thinking if he is, he might have known more.
I didn't know it was a Filipino in the crew, man.
So I'm going with my Filipinos, man.
I love your racism.
So you say the Neptune.
Yeah, Neptune.
I'm not going to lie.
Hey, man, Pharrell, you might.
I'm not hitting Pharrell.
Pharrell is plugging me in with a Richard Millie.
So until he does that, I'm not going to bother him.
I will not hit him.
Pharrell is one of the greatest producers of all time.
I would really love to work with him, man.
You never worked with Pharrell?
Fuck no.
I can see that collaboration.
Yeah, I can see it.
Yeah.
He followed me on Twitter, so maybe.
Yeah.
So have you met Pharrell?
I've seen him one time
And I think I've probably weirded him out
Because I couldn't stop following him around
But it was by mistake
Wait, wait, wait
How is that by mistake?
Because he just had an aura around him, man
I couldn't
It was like a glow
And I just
I wasn't meaning to do it
I just couldn't
I couldn't stop myself
It was just like
I just was drawn to the nigga, man
I was like
Everywhere he went
I was like, shit
I'm going there too
Yeah, it was like I couldn't It was like a I don't know Like a Kendrick Spears or something, man I couldn't stop following the nigga, man. I was like, everywhere he went, I was like, shit, I'm going there too. You was telling to him? Yeah, it was like I couldn't,
it was like a,
I don't know,
like a Kendrick Spears or something, man.
I couldn't stop following
the nigga around.
Oh my God.
No.
I'm going to be honest with you.
I said this earlier,
but you keep it too real.
I love that about you.
I couldn't stop following
the nigga, man.
I know he's like,
what the fuck is wrong
with this nigga?
But I couldn't stop following the nigga, man. I can he's like, what the fuck is wrong with this nigga? But I couldn't stop following the nigga, babe.
I can't lie to you.
Keep it to real.
I love that about you.
But he actually is that guy.
Like, you gravitate towards him.
I couldn't stop.
I wasn't doing it on purpose.
How about Andre 3000?
Have you ever met him?
I wish, I wish, man.
Because I would love to have a conversation with him, man.
I've learned so much from him.
He's like the same thing with Nas, too.
Right.
It might have been like every time in my life when I was just talking like motherfuckers,
like I don't want to listen to motherfuckers lyrical and shit like that.
There was a time in my life I just couldn't really listen to Dre because I was like, man,
he's too good, man.
I hate him.
I don't want to listen to this shit, man.
I'm not going to.
If it was anybody that like, as much as I love Nas, if it was anybody I could be like,
I wish I could rap like that, it would be him.
Andre.
Mm-hmm.
And you never met him?
No.
Damn.
I ain't going to lie.
I would pay people to see the moment you and Andre 3000 smack five.
I would love, man.
I would love to be him, man. I feel like both of y'all are going to have on something crazy.
It'll be a fashion statement for sure.
I feel like it's going to be
a GQ session
with either one of y'all playing in it.
Yeah, it definitely is
a huge influence on me, man.
And I swear to God,
this is where I feel like
it's going to happen.
Just roll with me with the rumor.
They're going to be in Utah.
Utah?
With the Mormons
Or Missouri
It's going to be like a weird place
Yeah
He's going to have on pink socks
And you're going to have on
Orange hair
Orange hair
I was trying to get orange
For a minute
So it's not
It's not too far off
It's not too far off
That's right
Am I on point
Yeah you might be on point
You might be on point
I can see me doing orange
One day
Okay let's keep going
Quick time slot
Future or young thug
Future
That nigga said
Told my mama
I don't need a bed
I'm sleeping on the floor
Ever since he said that
I was like
Oh no
He said
Touch mama
He don't need a bed
I'm sleeping on the floor
I was like
You what
God damn it
I'm doing
Cause niggas really
Was like that man
Wu-Tang or N.W.A
Wu-Tang
Damn He said that And I would think I mean to be honest You know Yeah it's just Wu-Tang or N.W.A.? Wu-Tang. Damn, he said that.
And I would think, I mean, to be honest, you know,
yeah, it's just Wu-Tang, man, because, yeah, it's just Wu-Tang.
I mean, in my head, I kind of feel like, you know,
N.W.A., those two albums is kind of like, you know,
better than like Wu albums in some sense.
But I feel like a lot of N.W.A. shit was like a lot of like Bomb Squad influence shit.
So it was like I had like.
Did you say N.W.A.?
No, I don't.
Maybe when Ice Cube left and he did the America's Most Wanted.
No, I'm saying like, no, I feel like that first like straight out of Compton and all that shit.
You think so?
Kind of was like Bomb Squad type shit to me.
Didn't Bomb Squad come after?
No. After Ice Cube went to New York Didn't Bomb Squad come after? No.
After Ice Cube went to New York?
No, no, no, no.
That's why I met so much.
That's Public Enemy.
Yeah.
So it would have been around the same time.
That's why I met so much when Cube went over there.
But I think, check what year Strata Compton came out.
I mean, just me.
That's what kind of I hear.
I don't hear that in the production, personally.
I mean, the second album when they was, you know, niggas always getting into something
and shit like that, that's
when they got more on their West Coast shit, but...
I do feel that they were
like the same group from a different spectrum.
Yeah, yeah. Public Enemy on this side of the spectrum
of N.W.A. But with Wu-Tang,
I never heard nothing like that before in my life.
Okay. You know, that's the reason why I'm saying
that. What? Strata Compton?
And what about Public Enemy's first?
And so, let me ask you my favorite, Danny Brown,
let me ask you my favorite argument on Dream Champs.
He hates it, maybe.
I hate it.
I think you hate it.
Ice Cube or Biggie Smalls?
I think, you know, it's easy to be like Biggie
because a lot of motherfuckers Be Don't really remember like
Cube
And this whole shit
But it's like
Biggie ain't have that much time
You know
Right
Right
And then
Always
One thing I always try to
Think about is like
What was the message
He was putting out
To you know
And Cube had a lot of
Social commentary shit
And this shit
And a lot of shit you can learn
from and just, you know?
So I'm going to have to pick Cube.
You know?
Are you happy?
Y'all flipped that whole
discussion.
Yayo asked me who my favorite artist
was and I said, I just happened to say Cube.
And it was Yayo.
By the way, that's the quietest was and I said I just happened to say Q and you know I remember I seen that
by the way that's the quietest
I've ever been on Dream Champs is because
I'm still up in the air that is a
great fucking but don't get me wrong
Biggie is still one of the best actors to do it
you know especially coming from his
age coming from his age
to me the argument would be who's better is Q
or Scarface
if you're going lyric for lyric that's, the argument would be who's better is Cube or Scarface.
If you're going lyric for lyric, man. Yeah, that's the one I would be like, I can't really.
That's a tough one.
I can't really, you know.
You would take a shot for that if you were still drinking.
Nah, man, I'm saying Cube.
You're still saying?
Yeah, because Cube was.
Cube, man.
Because Cube was talking about shit, man.
Cube, wherever you at.
Dude, when you put Stratocompton, Then you put America's Most Wanted Death Certificate
Kill at Will
Like that album run
And then never mind
When he goes into movies
And he does other things
But like
That album run right there
Is crazy man
And then it was just
Totally like a representation
Of like
Where they was from
On the west coast and shit
Like you listen to a Cube album
You're like
This is what LA
This is that shit
You know with Biggie
It was just like
I wanted a Jerry girl
Don't get me wrong
Like Biggie had the bops
He had the bangers
And he was a lyrical
Motherfucker too
But
It was just like
I still just gotta go back
To what was the message
He was putting out
You know
And I love the fact that
It's territorial
To a certain extent
Meaning
That if you from New York
I don't think
Anyone
Everyone from New York
Will back Tony Ayo
Yeah
Anybody from the Midwest Or The West Coast Will also I don't think anyone from New York will back Tony Ayo. Yeah.
Anybody from the Midwest or the West Coast will also agree with EFN.
But sometimes it is territorial, and then sometimes it's just preference.
See, I'm in the middle from Detroit, so I can't pick a side.
And Detroit is considered the Midwest, correct? Yeah.
Okay.
So I can't pick a side, you know?
But I just always, when I try to rank emcees and shit, I just always be like, man, but what was the message, you know?
Mm-hmm.
What was they trying to, I don't smoke.
Okay, I'm trying.
Like, what was they putting out, you know what I'm saying?
And Cube, he just had a lot of social commentary in this shit.
Mm-hmm.
Let's go.
Eminem or MGK?
Come on, man.
Y'all trying to be funny now
Yeah
That's why I ain't asking
I mean of course
It's going to be M
You know
I mean
We wouldn't get an MGK
If it wasn't for M
Right
You know
No white boys coming around
You know
Yeah
But for M like that
You know
And
I mean we had third base
Third base
Let's pick up
Let's pick up MC Search
Milk Bone
Don't forget Milk Bone
Was it Milk Bone?
Wasn't he from Michigan?
I think Milk Bone was from Michigan
Everlast
Or Jersey or something
Beastie Boys
Even Vanilla Ice
I've rolled on a plane
From Vanilla Ice
We got his phone number
He gave us a fake phone number
Let's pick up Vanilla Ice
Shout out to Vanilla Ice
He did not want to do
Drink Chance at all
He was like
Nah I ain't drinking It'd be dope to have Vanilla Ice My Shout out to Vanilla Ice. He did not want to drink Champs at all. He was like, nah, I ain't drinking.
It'd be dope to have Vanilla Ice on the bed.
My favorite white boy rapper is LP, so.
Oh, Killer Mike, LP?
Yeah.
Oh, hell yeah.
Run the juice.
I'm not going to lie, because if we just have his ear on, let me just say this.
I did defend Eminem as much as I can.
But my favorite white rapper of all times is Eminem.
I can't deny that at all.
I can't, I can't, I can't.
And, you know, Zeno's my brother.
I love him.
So Zeno kept, you know, baiting me.
He was like, you really like Eminem?
I'm like, yeah.
And, you know, he has his thing with him.
But the thing about it is, I don't think I like Eminem because he's white.
I like Eminem because I like Eminem Because he's white I like Eminem
Because I like Eminem
That's it
Yeah
Like that's it
I
I
I knew what he was trying to bait me
Into doing
But no
It's not I like him
Because he's white
I like him because
I like syllables
I like the way you put words together
Fuck that
I mean that's rappers
Rappers type shit
You know what I'm saying
You understand how difficult it is
to do what he do
when you do this shit, you know?
Right.
So that motherfucker be always
trying to talk shit.
Be like, man,
we don't hear no Eminem in the club.
Nigga, you still go to the club?
Like, who's in the club?
Or anything.
Like, you know,
you hear Eminem at fucking football games
and stadiums and shit like that.
And then look on Spotify.
Eminem is still like
the number one fucking artist
listened to on Spotify.
At the end of the day,
no one can take what he's done
for white boy rappers
at the end of the day, man.
It wouldn't be y'all niggas.
Now it's so many fucking
Eminem clones and this shit.
And you know why
I wanted to defend Eminem?
And it's not against Benzino,
but I wanted to defend Eminem.
It's because I hate when people say,
yo, he's nice for a white guy
No he was better than the niggas when he first came out
That's the way he got cracking
You know what they used to do
He's nice for a Puerto Rican
What the fuck do you mean
He's nice for a Latino
So I didn't like that
And then I realized white people
Been going through that same shit
For years
He's nice
for a white guy.
Nah, man.
You got to be nice because you're nice.
It's like saying, it's English.
And by the way,
I use the version
nice. These
young kids are like, what the fuck is this?
Back in the 90s,
in the 90s, you'd say nice meant
you were nice.
You were ill.
You were ill.
Okay, moving on.
Baby Face Ray or Skilla Baby?
Oh, this is a Detroit shit.
Yeah.
It might be a shot for this one.
Okay.
I'll take a shot.
I'm going to take a shot
because I'm going to say like...
You want a shot? No, no. I'm saying this is a shot. This will be a shot. I'm going to take a shot because I'm going to say like... You want a shot?
No, no.
I'm saying this is a shot.
This will be a shot.
I'm fucking with you.
I like your sponsor over there.
This will be the first shot.
This will be the first shot.
And the only reason because I'm going to say because Skillababy is like a real rapper.
He could rap his ass off.
Okay.
But I really love Babyface Ray Because he's representing
The side of Detroit
That motherfuckers
Ain't really seen
And what side is that?
And that's just like
Because a lot of people
There's more people in Detroit
Like people come to Detroit
Everybody try to be
Too over gangster
And you know
Or you just super
Backpacked out
But it's just like
Cool ass fly niggas
You know
That just like to chill
You know
And be regular cool niggas
And you know
Be fresh and fuck with bitches You know And I feel like That chill, you know, and be regular cool niggas and, you know, be fresh and fuck with bitches, you know?
And I feel like that side of Detroit never really been represented.
And he coming through with that shit, man.
So, yeah, I'm going to say that's a shot on that one.
But Skillet Baby is like, he's a dope rapper in the sense of like, he could have been cracking in any time period of Detroit rap type shit.
Like, he literally could rap his ass off,
you know?
Okay, moving on.
All right,
Biz Markie or ODB?
I mean, you don't get
an ODB without
Biz Markie,
but just because
Biz Markie don't got
a better album than
Dirty's.
So, I'm going to have
to say Dirty
I can respect that
Wait you said Bismarck
You don't have a
Better album man
Than what?
Than any of Dirty albums
Up in the air
I want to say this to the fans
Because I know they're going to kill me
That is his
But by the way
I've never heard that before
So I want to say this clearly on danny brown
like please because i can't definitively defend that i can't can you look if it is confused no i
can no i can see i can see you want to change something no that first odb album is so solid man
yeah and i like nigga please, too, though.
You know?
So, but I get it, you know, but you got to remember, man, Biz Markie came on.
I was still like a kid, too, so my ear wasn't mature enough. You wasn't.
You was Pickin' Boogers, man.
Pickin' Boogers came on.
But Biz is so important to the culture.
Like, what he brought to the table was a game changer.
Yeah.
This is a great conversation.
Come here.
Outkast or UGK?
Take a shot
No
Relax
Because Outkast album run
Is crazy
You know
It ain't too many people
That got four albums
Back to back like that
You know
UGK
They really didn't have
That much time
You know
Damn
They really just
His knowledge of the game
Is crazy
You know
They really just got them two
Outkast got four So I I'm going to have to say,
I mean, the argument would have been hard if it was my deep OutKast.
That's when I'm like, ah, I really can't really, you know,
because they both got four to me.
They tied.
Okay.
You got the next one?
No, go ahead.
This motherfucker's fucking me up with his asses
KRS-One or Rakim?
I mean, KRS-One had more output
And then it's gonna go back to the argument that I said
What was the message you putting out?
Now, we know Rakim is the guy
And you know
And he never cursed
On a song-by-song basis, but
I mean, KRS-One is the teacher, though
You know?
So it's like
I mean, I know Rakim is the type of shit
But he stopped
You know
He didn't have that much output like KRS-One
But don't get me wrong
I feel like
I mean
It's one song like
Rakim got a better song than KRS-One ever made
I feel like
You know
Like Don't Sweat the Technique
I don't feel like
That's a great song
Nothing is kind of better
Than that shit
Jews Know the Ledges
Yeah
Jews Know the Ledges
All that shit
But I just gotta pick
KRS-One just cause
He's the teacher man
Like
I like that
Just the message he put out
You know
But who knows
You know Rakim the God
It's like
We would've loved to see
Five Rakim albums
ghostface or rayquan ghostface man and don't get me wrong um i mean he just because
ray i mean immobility kind of just like that derailed yeah that's where the argument got to
be like it just with iron Man and Supreme Clientele alone
is like the best back-to-back
in the whole Wu-Tang, to be honest, you know?
So yeah, and Ghostface,
that's somebody that I super looked up to.
I got a Ghostface verse that I never used.
It's on your beat, guys.
Damn.
Why are you looking at me like you don't know?
Yeah.
Well, can you pull up that fucking verse?
You don't think you got it.
You a foul nigga.
And it's the same thing like I was saying about Andre.
Like, I wish I could rap like Ghostface, you know?
Right.
And Ghostface, I love this style, too.
Like, even with the clothes and shit.
Like, as far as fashion and shit.
You ever had Clarks?
Hell yeah.
I was dying them shits and all that shit. You died to Clarks. Okay. Fucking them up with the R.I.T. dial type of shit, like, as far as fashion and shit. You ever had Clarks? Hell yeah. I was dying them shits
and all that shit.
You died to Clarks.
Okay.
Fucking them up with the RIT dial,
all that type of shit, man.
We used to put white,
white shoe polish on the sole
and turn it ice blue.
God damn.
We was doing all type of
shit with the Clarks.
This motherfucker's
soul is crazy.
Continue.
All right.
Movies,
Juice or Boys in the Hood?
I'm like, I'm going back to the message. So, Boys in the Hood I'm like I'm going back to the message
So Boys in the Hood
Was more of like
A social
Conscious movie
Juice is really like
A fucking nigga
Horror movie
You know what I'm saying
You know
Like this nigga
Like Jason
Running around
You know what I'm saying
But with Boys in the Hood
Just that whole shit
You know
Father
Ricky
Once Ricky died
We was out of it
Yeah yeah
But I gravitated
To like the father
Trying to steer his son
On the right path
And get him away
From that shit
You know cause
A lot of niggas
Ain't grew up with dads
And shit
You know what I'm saying
So I feel like
That was like
That speech he had
With his son
You know what I'm saying
Like my dad
Ain't never had a sex talk
With me
I seen that shit
Boys in the hood
You know what I'm saying
Yeah Monique My dad ain't never had a sex talk with me. I've seen that shit, boys in the hood. You know what I'm saying?
Monique?
Or D.L. Hughley?
Comedians?
Yeah.
Oh, I mean, D.L. Hughley.
You know, but that's just because, you know, he do it more.
You know, I mean, he's just more.
I mean, Monique is just more like on some acting shit. And, you know, you can't take that away from her, you know? But just as he's just more, I mean, Monique is just more like on some acting shit, and you know,
you can't take that away from her, you know?
But just as far as like getting on stage and shit,
I mean, of course it's going to be D.O. Hughley.
Okay. Next one.
Primo or Dilla?
Dilla, man.
And I mean, only reason I'm going to say that is because I know a lot of people are always arguing
and shit about, but people
got to understand, man,
the shit that Dilla was doing, man, they still talk about and do shit to this day.
Like, I was in fucking Sweetin' one time
in like a fucking five-star restaurant,
and they was playing fucking Slim Village instrumentals.
You know what I'm saying?
And just with him making that Donuts album,
that was pretty much like our version of jazz, you know?
Right, right.
Ain't nobody else got that shit like that.
Like, you can't just make a fucking album and then it's talking to you through the music, through the beats.
Like, he's doing so much shit, man.
And he's home team for you.
I mean, yeah, but even without that.
Like, because, I mean, it was so long that I didn't even know that Dilla's shit was D-Trace shit.
When that shit first came out, like Tribe and all that shit, I was like, man, that's some New York shit.
Right.
You know, I always thought That shit was like New York shit
Until I was like
Older and shit
And I was like
Oh this shit really
Some Detroit shit
You know cause I heard
Slum Village when I was a kid
But I was too immature
To even understand that shit man
I'm like these niggas
Ain't shooting nobody
Or nothing
They ain't getting high
Or nothing man
I can't get jiggy
With this shit
But then when I grew up
You know I understood
The genius in the music
You know
Right
Oh shit
Yeah
Podcast or radio?
I mean podcast
Re-answer
I mean cause the radio
Got too many rules
Right
You gotta listen to what
Another motherfucker tell you to do
Or what you can't talk about
And this and that
And that and this
Podcasting is fucking
This nigga's going rogue
You know what I'm saying
We don't follow no rules
I don't know
This nigga's going rogue
You know
They trying to put rules
On everything podcast
They've been trying over the years
It's getting a little weird
Yeah cause you know
Sponsors and shit coming
And you know
But I mean
This is like one of the
Illest mediums to be created
Just to have
We always looked at
A motherfucker like
Nori as an entertaining Ass motherfucker So to be able to see have We always looked at A motherfucker like Nori as an entertaining
As a motherfucker
So to be able to see
This motherfucker talk shit
Every week is like
That's a fucking blessing man
God damn it
This motherfucker
I love this motherfucker
I ain't gonna lie
I mean
You know what's the
Crazy shit
Man
You got hash in there
Yeah
Just think of
No love
Yo
I got hash Live red He got a bunch of shit love Yo I got hash
Live red
He got a bunch of shit in there
He got a concoction
Let me tell you
So many times
I meet people
That think they know me
And this is probably
One of the
The first times
That I think I know you
Okay
You know what I mean
Like I think I know you
I know
I think this is our first time meeting.
Yeah, definitely.
Yeah, it's our first time meeting.
But me being a fan
of how you navigate
through this industry,
I feel like I know you.
You know what I'm saying?
You know what I'm saying?
So I see people
that come up to me
and they be like,
yo, episode 16,
you know what I'm saying?
I just look at them motherfuckers like,
I don't know what the fuck,
episode whatever. But they know me and that's? I just look at them motherfuckers like, I don't know what the fuck. Episode whatever.
But they know me.
And that's how I feel about you.
Just in case you know that.
I mean, dog, I really feel like y'all raised me, man.
Queens in general, man, raised me, dog.
And Miami.
And Kendall.
They talking about the music.
I'm talking about the music, man.
I grew up like y'all.
My dad had me at 16. You know what I'm saying? So I had a young ass pops. You know what I'm talking about the music, man. I grew up like y'all. My dad had me at 16.
You know what I'm saying?
So I had a young ass pops.
Your dad was busting nuts early.
Yeah, he had four kids by the time he was 21.
Let's make some noise for your dad.
Your dad was out here ripping everything.
Brand newbie in a Tribe Called Quest.
Tribe Called Quest.
I mean, same shit.
I mean, you know, I mean, shit I mean You know I mean
Yeah
Cause Tribe just
It was just too much involved
With them man
You know
And then you know
Q-Tip's like my big homie man
Tribe is like
You know
That's like my mentors and shit
You know what I'm saying
So
I can't go against the grain with that
But I could
I could just really just
Cause me I'm a rap nigga
So you know
You had
Tip and Fife
And
Besides Puba man I really a rap nigga, so you know you had Tip and Phyfe.
Besides Puba, man, I really... No, no, no.
I'll tell you a funny story about Phyfe, though.
I said, Nori know this, and Nori know that.
But Nori know Gap, because Nori bucked that.
But I was giving respect to Bono this, and Bono that.
And Bono know Jack, because both can rapo Jack, Waka, Boca and Rap.
And Fife Dawg seen me.
I kid you not.
And he was like, I'm going to get you back.
I was like, what?
I was like, yo, this is a big guy.
And that's how much competitive person he was.
You can tell with him because he was a rapping ass nigga. I took his line and made it better.
As opposed to
I was trying to
big him up
and I never got to
fix that situation
so Fife died
that's crazy though
thinking like
I was like
oh Fife is going to
diss me
he thought you bit him
he
no it wasn't
he thought that
you didn't think
you was biting
no he thought that
I took his shit
and I didn't like
kind of like
bite him
okay
yeah yeah he was a guy old school rude I was like No, he thought that I took his shit and I didn't like, kind of like... Bite him. Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah, he still has the old school rules. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was like...
But I was telling him...
You took it like,
and I did it better, right?
And that's why you mad.
He's like, no, you bit my shit.
You know what?
I'm going to let you ride with that.
He could have took it like that.
He could have.
But it was like in a respectful way.
No, I'm sure he wasn't.
It was respectful,
but he was like,
yo, Nori,
I'm going to take one of your lines and I'm going to do the same exact shit. And I was like In a respectful way Nah I'm sure he wasn't Yeah I'm sure he wasn't But he was like Yo Nori I'ma take one of your lines And I'm going to
Do the same exact shit
And I was like
No you're a left
And you're a right
Like I was
Showing respect
And he was just like
Uh uh
That's them old school rules man
That's how it was
But he was competitive
If he was to ever do a versus
Who would you
Want to do a versus against?
I don't know If anybody can do no versus with me.
It had to be like, I don't know, man.
I sit in my own class.
A$AP Rocky?
Nah, he got fucking problems and all that shit.
He got Drake songs.
I can't get into that shit, man.
He got to be like some real alternative rap shit.
Like, you know?
Killer Mike?
Nah, man.
He got fucking OutKast songs and shit, man.
Fuck, okay. LP? LP? He going to Mike? Nah, man. He got fucking outcast songs and shit, man. Fuck.
Okay.
LP?
LP?
He's going to bust my ass, man.
Like, LP, like, he's done too much shit, man. He got fucking Cannibal Ock shit.
He can start the, he a producer, you know?
Right.
There's so much shit he done done producing-wise, man.
So who would you want to go against?
I wouldn't want to do that shit, man.
You don't want to go against?
I mean, fucking versus, yeah. I don't want to go against? I mean, fuck a versus.
I don't fucking battle your ass
with anything.
Real battle.
Just get on the corner.
No beat, no nothing.
Then let's see who's going to win,
you know?
Fuck your songs.
Who would you want to battle
on the corner?
I mean,
whoever think they want it.
Let me,
should I think of somebody?
Space Ghost
Perp
I mean he a crazy
Motherfucker man
I wouldn't
I mean you know
I'd take him to a therapist
Before I do anything
Joey Badass Man It's Who? Joey Badass?
Nah man
It's only two rappers
I think fucking me like that
And that's K-Dot
And Earl Sweatshirt
So anybody else
I'ma give them the business
I like Earl Sweatshirt
So anybody else
They getting the business
Anybody else
Yeah
I mean besides the OGs
Over me
But my peer group
And my class
Yeah I think
Any nigga from the XXL Couple could get it I mean that's the difference Over me But my peer group And my class Yeah I think Any nigga from the XXL couple
Could get it
I mean that's the difference
Machine Gun Kelly
Could get it
Action Bronson
Action Bronson
I mean like I said
Skinny old fat
Action Bronson
Could get it
Action a bad motherfucker
Though but
Yeah
But Freddie ain't my class
Freddie was
For me man
You know
And Freddie do
He bust ass though
Every time I been on a song
With him he got me so
Why
Freddie Gibbs Yeah That's big of you Every time I've been on a song with him, he got me, so. Why? Freddie Gibbs.
Yeah.
That's big of you to say.
I know.
I mean, you rap, you know what's up, man.
That's one thing I hate about these motherfuckers.
You know where the motherfucker got you, you know?
Okay.
Mobb Deep or M.O.P.?
Mobb Deep.
And it's just, I mean, I feel like, like I say, Mobb to me got four.
M.O.P. got two.
So, and I love the Warriors.
The Warriors is like, you know.
But I still even go to on like the beat making tip.
Like Havoc is like one of my favorite producers ever, you know.
And, you know, Fizzy get busy too though.
But, you know, I just like Mob.
Mob is like, and Prodigy is like one of my favorite rappers ever, you know.
So. Fine. I'm always going to ride with Queens, I think, Mob. Mob is like, and Prodigy is like one of my favorite rappers ever, you know? So.
Fine.
I'm always going to ride with Queens, I think, man.
I respect you.
That's why I'm moving on immediately.
Let's go.
Exhibit or Raz Kaz?
West Coast.
I think Raz Kaz is a better rapper, but Exhibit had a better album.
40 Days and 40 Nights is better.
By the way, that video might be the best
video. Yeah, that's one of the best rap videos ever.
Yeah, Paparazzi. Not Paparazzi.
Yeah, they shot it.
They made it forward, but everything
was happening backwards. But what I'm saying,
I thought it was in one
take. One take. That's what I thought.
Was it backwards? No, it's not backwards.
I think you're confused. I'm sorry. It was one take.'s how I thought Was it backwards? No it's not backwards I think you get confused
I'm sorry
It was one take
Oh yeah
It was one take
So yeah
I guess I'm saying Razzcast
Cause he had Solo Night's remix
Okay
But Exhibit
I'm gonna be honest
Yeah it was the one take
I'm gonna be honest
I gotta say
The Exhibit has the best
Video in hip hop history
Nah that video is amazing
And I don't know
If it costed money
Hell yeah that shit did
You know
It did?
I didn't know I didn't know But it costed money. Hell yeah, that shit did. You know what I mean? It did? I didn't know.
I didn't know.
But what I'm saying is the creativity part of him just walking through that one scene,
I've never seen nothing that creative.
You know it was crazy because they redid it with Jewel Santana video, and that was just
as dope.
So anytime you could just buy the video, and that shit still fires.
Wow.
Wow.
Okay.
Next one, E.
Scarfacer Cube.
Really? That was on there for real? Yeah. See, next one, E. Scarface or Cube? Really?
That was on there for real?
Yeah.
See, that's the one.
I got to take a shot?
Yeah, you got to take a shot.
It ain't no winners in that one, man.
Bomb Squad or Organized Noise?
Bomb Squad.
Because you can't do that shit no more.
You know what I'm saying?
They fuck around and lock you up
trying to make them bomb squad beats, man.
And you won't have organized noise
without bomb squad?
Is that not accurate?
Organized noise to me is more like
into the live instrumentation shit
type shit too, though, you know?
Not South.
Just live instrumentation.
Yeah, just more of it like, you know,
they was bringing in like guitarists
and shit like that, you know?
So I look at that as just like
more live instrumentation.
And I look at Bomb Squad as just like
taking a hundred samples
and making one fucking beat out of it.
You know what I'm saying?
Goddamn.
You can't do that shit no more.
Nah, hell no.
You get sued like a monk.
You're going to jail.
They're going to sue you.
They're just going to lock your ass up.
They're going to skip past the suing. That's past suing a monk You going to jail They ain't going to sue you They just going to Lock your ass up They going to skip past the suit That's past the suit
You just go to jail

Okay, next one.
Naughty by nature or Lost Boys?
Naughty by nature, man.
Trench rap better than Mr. Cheeks.
I'm sorry I had to beat Queens on that one. Yeah.
I got to mind my business on that one.
They both my brothers.
And you know what?
They would love to hear that You know
Like they love that
They love that
I mean Tretches
Come on man
Tretches underrated I feel
Tretches
He's such a ill MC
I mean Tretches
That's what you call
Lyrical miracles
You know
Yes
Tretches
Tretches that dude
Cannabis or Keith Murray
Keith Murray
Big up Keith Murray? Keith Murray Big up Keith Murray
Yeah, Keith Murray, man
I mean, don't get me wrong
I'm just saying
Because Cannabis, when he came out
Everybody was shaking in their boots
Nah, yeah, he killed the day he came out
He had everybody scared
Then the motherfucker
His mixtape run was crazy
It's just that album, though
That Wyclef one
That was kind of crazy
With Cannabis Yeah, that Cannabis Cannabis That was kind of Even that album, though, that Wyclef one, that was kind of crazy. With cannabis.
Yeah, that cannabis, Cannabis.
That was kind of, even that title, you know, and he got a lot of crazy lines.
Eating ass like me and all that kind of shit.
I'll eat your ass.
Yeah.
Like, some of that shit ain't bars no more.
It was bars back then, but now it's like.
Big up cannabis somewhere.
And then he had that battle when he ripped his notepad out
Like you know
That was too crazy
But Cannabis
Wherever you at
He said that
Me and you
Didn't send him a car service
Nah
I talked to him
I mean
It hasn't been
Lately but
We need to have him on the show man
But I feel like
He was a game changer
When he came out
I feel like
Keith Murray music
Still detests the time though
Like you listen to something
That Keith Murray shit And you like fuck time, though. Like, you listen to some of that Keith Murray shit
and you like, fuck.
You know what I'm saying?
Most beautifulest thing
in the world.
Like, some of that shit
is crazy, man.
It's just like that.
And ain't nobody
never did that shit
since, like, he had it.
He said it in his own right.
That was a solid album, too.
That album.
Ain't nobody, like,
rapping like Keith Murray.
We ain't never heard nobody
be like, oh, he rapped
like Keith Murray.
Ain't nobody ever said that shit. You know what I'm saying? Keith Murray can't even rap like Keith Murray. We ain't never heard nobody be like, oh, he rapped like Keith Murray. Ain't nobody ever said that shit.
You know what I'm saying? Keith Murray can't even rap
like Keith Murray.
His shit is just real.
His shit is real.
It's just like that.
Yeah, man.
So,
A$AP Rocky or
Hobson? Come on, man. That's a trick question. I mean, A$AP Rocky or Hobson? Come on man
That's a trick question
I mean it's A$AP Rocky obviously man
You know
I don't even
I mean
Yeah just A$AP Rocky man
You know
A$AP
Let me just say something
A$AP
I'm really proud of A$AP
You know why
They really changed The trajectory I'm using big of ASAP. You know why? They really changed the trajectory.
I'm using big words.
You guys know I don't use big words.
Of New York rap.
Mm-hmm.
He went out there and took a risk.
I like that.
Yeah, and he was just being him, too.
It wasn't like it was for us, you know?
So I want to big up ASAP, Rocky, ASAP, Ferg, all the ASAPs.
Even the ASAPs.
He did try to sell us Under Armour's, though.
He did, but we didn't fall for it.
That's the only thing we didn't fall for.
That's the one.
Yeah, we were like, nah, nah, nah.
You and Steph, you got to relax.
Yeah, like, yeah, no, hey.
That's one strike, man.
Come on, man.
Other than that, I like his, he got some whiskey.
It's great.
Got some Canadian whiskey.
I fucking fantastically liked it.
Yeah, that whiskey's good.
It's Canadian Japanese whiskey.
He sold us bootleg,
but I have,
it's the first time
I got bootleg shit
that I was like,
I'm good.
They're the same homies
that came with Kevin Hart
and his brand.
Yes, and Kevin Hart people,
I love those people.
Those people,
what are those people? What are those people?
What are they named?
Whatever they are.
Mercer is the name of the...
Yeah.
Okay, go ahead.
Go to the next one.
Biggie or Big Pun?
That's a good one.
Only got one shot left too
Damn that is a hard one though
But I'm
Yeah take a shot
Just take the shot
Just take the shot
Cause
I would have loved to hear them rap together
You know
That would have gave me more of a...
That would have been my answer.
That would have gave me more of something to judge, you know?
Right.
Was there never a record of them two?
No.
Nah, they existed in two different time frames.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They could have gone in that time.
Yeah.
And Pun didn't come out until 98.
But there was some...
There must have been some bullshit that was circulating.
You relating Joe?
No, no, no, no, no.
There was something that was punning,
an old freestyle.
Well, if pun and Biggie was in the same room,
pun wasn't pun.
Does that make sense?
Yeah, yeah.
You know what I mean?
Because in my head,
like I want to just say like Biggie
just because I got more shit to,
you know, but
then I just think about pun verses
and it's like,
but Biggie can't, you know, so it's like think about pun verses and it's like, but Biggie can't,
you know, so it's like.
We get it. Yeah, that's even, man.
Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock?
Yeah, Dave Chappelle.
But, I mean, that's the crazy one. But yeah, I'll just say Dave, though.
I'll say Dave.
Let's pick up a Dave Chappelle, man. I ain't gonna lie, man.
I just say Dave. I like hanging with comedians
Way more than like
Hanging with rappers
Ask me why
I mean
I kinda
I kinda can get that
I kinda can get that
I kinda like
A comedian cannot
Stop being a comedian
Yeah I mean
It's just in them
You know
And then the rappers
You know
Rappers is like
You know superheroes
They like wrestlers
They like
They got their
Rapper persona
Other than Kanye
I'm going to be honest with you
Other than Kanye
Rappers don't rap
Every
Aspect of their life
Comedians
Just have to be funny
Yeah
I mean the whole world
They can just see shit
And just you know
Everything can become
A joke to them
You know
Don't get me wrong
I've been around
Some comedians
That's funny as fuck
On stage
And ain't funny
In real life though
And ain't funny
In real life
Yeah they ain't
Cracking no jokes
And shit
Who's your mom
I mean I ain't
But I'm just saying
They just
You see I tried
Yeah
If you was drinking
You would have
Invented one of them
And to be back on that
I do think
Chris Rock does have
Better specials
than Dave Chappelle.
I think that's just more preference for me.
I just like Dave Chappelle, you know,
just with the show and all that shit.
But I do feel like Chris Rock's specials,
early, you know, they was crazy, you know?
I love Chris and Dave Chappelle, man.
Let's make some noise for them both.
I'm going to take a shot for that.
So, I'm here.
I'm going to take a shot for Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle
because they both gave me the most greatest compliment.
I walked into Nas' party, his 50th birthday party.
I walk in, and the first person I see is Chris Rock.
And Chris Rock says, I ain't going to talk to nobody, nigga.
I said, it's Chris Rock. And he just said, I ain't going to talk to nobody, nigga. I said, it's Chris Rock.
Yeah.
And he just said, I ain't talking to nobody, nigga.
And I said, ah.
He said, but if I talk to somebody, I'm coming to drink champs.
And I was like, my wife looked at me, and she just gave me the handshake.
She was like, I'm so proud of you.
By the way, this is no cameras allowed.
This is Nas' 50th birthday party.
So it's like, so it's just, it was just so beautiful.
So Chris Rock, man, I want to thank him.
Let's continue.
Oh, I got to take a shot, right?
Okay.
Last one is on you.
Loyalty or respect?
I got to pick one?
No, you can say both.
I mean, because to be honest, man, like, I do watch this show,
and I see a lot of times motherfuckers be on here, and they be like, respect.
And you be like, motherfucker, you get disrespected every day, man, you know?
Baby mamas call you out your name, all type of shit.
You still, so to me, man, I don't care about loyalty because loyalty comes at a cost, you know.
And you get disrespected by motherfuckers you love every day.
And you still go back and you still love them.
You know what I'm saying?
So to me, I just want honesty.
You know?
Just be honest to me.
You know what I'm saying?
I'd rather a motherfucker not look me in the fucking eyes and lie to me.
But a motherfucker disrespect you all the time.
You just got to, you know, it is what it is.
The kids disrespect you.
So he said neither.
You know what I'm saying?
You still love them.
The motherfuckers you love the most disrespect you and be unloyal to you.
You still got to be with them.
You still got to love them.
I don't know what answer he picked.
He said neither.
We got to drink.
Neither. I'm taking a...
I'd always say both, to be honest.
To me, I just want honesty, man.
Right.
Tell me you ain't going to be loyal, you know?
I'm going to drink this and take a pee-pee.
Yeah, solemn.
Take a piss, guys.
So what are you drinking right now?
Oh, this is iced tea.
You ordered some weird shit, though.
Yerba Mate.
What is it?
Yerba?
Mate.
Yerba Mate is just like a caffeine.
It's just like.
A zimpic of tea.
Two times stronger than coffee type shit.
It's not?
That's what they call it.
That's what they call it. I never heard of that,
but I drink it a lot.
I mean, that's what I drink,
you know?
I mean, I drink coffee
in the day,
you know what I'm saying?
Right.
But I like it.
So, because a lot of people
can't go from one extreme
to another extreme.
Do you think that
that's what you call it?
You went from one extreme, like you said,
you said cocaine and all that,
and then now you're going to this other world.
Is that what you think?
What do you mean?
Another world of like what?
Just being sober?
I feel like that's what we're supposed to be doing.
That's what you're supposed to be doing.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah, but do you think
Do you think
Do you do it right
Like I don't feel like
I should be applauded
For doing something
I'm supposed to be doing
You know
Okay
But is
Is that one extreme
To the next
I wouldn't say
It's an extreme
I mean
I mean the hard part is
You just
Realize like man
Where all the time go
Now you know
Now like I ain't sitting around Smoking blunts Or drinking all day It's like fuck I have so much fucking time mean the hard part is you just realize like man where all the time go now you know now you're
like i ain't sitting around smoking blunts or drinking all day it's like fuck i have so much
fucking time on my hands now it's like what the fuck so now i just pour myself more back into my
work now i mean i feel like i honestly regained the love for making music again because before
you know it just used to be like you know you gotta do it type shit like i go to studio and
get fucked up and just wanting knock that shit out I go to the studio And get fucked up And just Want to knock that shit out
So I can go back
To getting fucked up
Now it's like
I'm just back in love
With the process of just
Now it's fun again
You know
Or even being on stage
You know
Before
The motherfucker was thinking
About the after party
More than the actual show
So how do you mosh pit
In a mosh pit
Without being
Moshed
I ain't moshing shit
I ain't
You know
Hell no Man we old man That shit don't come back Shit don't heal quick Like it used to in a mosh pit without being moshed. I ain't moshin' shit. I ain't, you know, hell no.
Man, we old, man. That shit don't come back.
Shit don't heal quick like it used to.
You know what I'm sayin'? I ain't tryin' to break no bone
and do nothin', man. All that shit
hurtin' out. You wake up sore
and shit, man, shit, man.
Motherfuckin' fuck too hard. Your fuckin' pelvic bone
be hurtin' and shit now, man. I ain't even tryin'
to do that.
Let me ask you.
I get it all the time.
What's the worst rumor
you heard about yourself?
I don't know, man.
If you heard it, it might be true about my ass.
I don't know if it's going to be a rumor.
Like what?
I don't know.
I don't know what people have said about me.
It might have been true. I don't know. You don't know What other people Have said about me man I mean shit It might have been true
So I don't know
You don't research yourself
No
I don't do that
I mean
I don't know
No
I wouldn't think
I have you know
Rumors you know
You know
I respect that
I mean maybe
I mean
Nah
I ain't
Yeah I mean
Motherfucker by itself
Like I ain't never Smoked no crack Or nothing like that You know what I'm. I mean, nah, I ain't, yeah, I mean, motherfucking bikes, like, I ain't never
smoked no crack or nothing like that, you know
what I'm saying? I've seen people be like, Danny Brown
crack, I've done some bumps and shit,
but I ain't never
smoked no fucking crack. I sold crack,
you know? Sold crack. I ain't never
did no fucking meth, no
heroin, none of that kind of shit, you know?
Even though that ain't something like
a fucking award or something, you know? I was a of shit, you know? Even though that ain't something like his fucking award or something,
you know?
I was a pill guy, you know?
What kind of pills you took?
I mean, I just really loved Adderall and, you know,
the normal
nigga shit, fucking Xanax
and Percocets and shit, you know?
The only motherfucker I know who took Adderall right there.
Diego, right there.
I used to take them shits every day. I used to take them just being bored.
And he used to say
he's taking them
for taking the test.
I mean,
this nigga ain't had
no test ever.
I mean,
they did.
Don't get me wrong.
That's how it started
with me.
Really?
Like somebody told you
you could study better?
No,
I mean,
I just,
you know,
people just,
I mean,
like the first time
I did Adderall,
I made like five
of the illest songs
ever made,
like back to back.
So then it just gets to the point Then after a while
But if you do them for so many
After years and shit
What songs did you make
On Adderall?
That was during the hybrid time
Not 25 bucks
No that was
I mean probably yeah
I probably did
But
Like the hybrid
That was that album
So I can't remember
The actual five
But I know I wrote the hybrid
Why do I like
Y'all Detroit niggas high?
I like
you and Eminem high. I'm sorry.
I mean...
You don't like them healthy, bro?
I understand what he's saying.
Because everybody likes a car crash.
Yeah, I do like a car crash.
You know it's something you want to stare at, but you know?
I'm sorry.
Yeah, everybody...
I don't think he means A car crash either
I think he just
He thinks that
When you
When people were on drugs
They were more creative
I thought that too
But now since I've been sober
I realize that shit
Just in me
Right
You know if anything
The drugs and alcohol
And shit was fucking me up more
Right
It was taking me more
Out of who I was
You know what I'm saying
I was you know
But I always been
A funny motherfucker
Or just being able
To fucking rap So that shit was always Just in me Before the drug shit You know what I'm saying I was you know But I always been A funny motherfucker Or just being able To fucking rap
So that shit was always
Just in me before the drugs
You know
And you could rap funny
You could rap sober
Yeah
Now you know
I thought it would be hard
But I feel like I'm better now
How long did it take you
To realize that though
After rehab and stuff
Oh
Cause I'm sure
It was a struggle
To get to that point
Yeah it took a minute man
Cause
You know Like I said When I first I didn't Had no intentions On quitting weed and shit But Because I'm sure it was a struggle to get to that point Yeah, it took a minute, man Because, you know
Like I said, when I first
I didn't have no intentions on quitting weed and shit
But, so then I was trying that
And it was hard, man
I'm like, I got to smoke
Quit weed?
Yeah, because I couldn't sleep
Because I couldn't sleep no more
He's having a terrible time right now
Because I couldn't sleep, you know
I couldn't, I was like, man
You, from what?
Quitting weed
Oh, I don't know
Yeah, but it was just hard But, you know, it's like everything else, man Just time, man. You, from what? Quitting weed. Oh, I don't know. Yeah, but it was just hard.
But, you know, it's like everything else, man.
Just time, man.
You know, time heals all wounds kind of shit, you know?
Now, like I said, I still, I can love it from afar.
But as far as just, like, making music, I think, because now, like I said, I have so much time on my hands.
I started back, like, making beats and shit, you know?
I used to make beats all the time, like, 2007.
Then I found people that made beats better than me.
So I was like, fuck my beats.
So now I just got nothing but time.
So I've been back making beats again
and just falling back and just with love
with just having fun with it.
So I don't even, people might hear my shit
and be like, oh, nah, he ain't better than what he was.
But I'm having more fun now than I was before.
And it's more of a conscious thought with me. And he takes it to zone in because I know that's what helps him.
And it's more of a conscious thought with me.
You know, before it just was like,
get high and just try to say the craziest shit
I can think of.
Now it's sometimes, I guess,
that might be just like what he's saying.
Like, because motherfuckers high and fucked up,
it's a filter, ain't no filter.
Now it is more of a filter, man.
Now I think about shit a lot more.
Like, do I really want to say, like, what am I, you get i you give it i'm saying like certain shit i look back and be like man no
that ain't really cool to say and you know who told me that shit a long time ago was fucking
ali shaheed muhammad man he was like yeah he's like man you fucking dope you just got to figure
out how to say shit in a better way you you know? Oh, he schooled you.
Yeah,
and I always stuck in my head,
but now I understand
what he meant,
man,
you know?
Because,
you know,
sometimes shock value
just means you
embarrassing yourself.
Right.
It doesn't last.
Yeah.
It's not lasting.
Do you realize
how much hip-hop
appreciates you?
Um,
to be honest,
man,
I wouldn't even really care
I'm just happy to be a part of it
That's a great answer
Best and worst answer I've ever heard
Yeah no
Because I do see like a lot of
Influence I've done
And I can see where you know
Some of it not good
Some of it is you know
But for the most part
Like I say that
kid in detroit just thinking like man i'm gonna be a rapper i don't know and just the fact that
i did it like that's like the american dream man to be able to take care of yourself off something
you love to do yeah you know people wake up and go do jobs and shit they don't want to be there
man i love my fucking job that was one of the biggest reasons for me to get sober,
because it was like, I really love my job.
I don't want to lose this shit.
Me too.
You know?
I love my fucking job, too.
Yeah.
God damn it.
And that's the American dream to me, man,
to be able to support yourself off something you love to do, man.
Can't be no better than that, man.
Yeah, I'm going to be honest with you, Danny Brown.
This was awesome.
No, it really is.
Because you're showing people that you can still have fun,
you can still be who you are,
and also accomplish your goals.
Certain people can't do that.
Yeah.
And the fact that you're doing that
I want to applaud you
Thank you man
I want to say
This was great man
You got anything else?
You ever done
The Gathering of the Juggalos?
Yeah a few times
How's that been?
I've been to it twice
Last time it didn't go too good
Last time it didn't go too good for me
Cause you know they always crazy
They throw fagos at you and shit.
Which means they like you when they throw that shit.
Yeah, but this time I played.
Fagos.
The soda.
The big soda bottle.
We're from Pop.
Yeah, Pop.
That's in Detroit?
Yeah, Fagos.
That's what they do.
They throw Fagos and shit.
But this time I was on stage and they wasn't throwing Fagos and shit.
So I was like, what's wrong with y'all
Motherfuckers
You wanted them to throw
Yeah you know
And yeah
It got bad
They just started
Throwing everything
They started throwing
More than Faygo's
I was like
Ah man you know
Play stupid games
Win stupid prizes
You know what I'm saying
It's such an interesting
Festival man
Yeah
But it's great
It's fun man
Just the love out there
And shit man
It's a loyal fan base
Yeah You know it's crazy I mean like fun, man. Just the love out there. Nah, it's a loyal fan base. Yeah.
It's crazy.
I mean, like, ICP, like, being able just to be able to go.
It's St. Clown Posse.
Yeah.
To go.
That was another thing, too.
Like, being able to be around them early when my career was first starting and seeing how they was operating and moving and shit.
And I was like, yeah, that's the type of shit I wanted for myself, you know?
Like, you know, I can't say I've accomplished that in that sense, but I was just looking at them like,
man, you can really, almost like a blue collar,
like middle class rapper, you know?
Like, you can really just have a fucking ill-ass career, man,
without fucking having to compromise who you are
or what you want to do with music, you know?
So I really, that was a big influence on me.
Any trick-trick stories?
Trick-trick? So I really, that was a big influence on me. Any Trick Trick stories? Trick Trick?
I mean, probably before, like, you know, Trick Trick, like, I mean, I used to be a kid, like, you know, teenager.
And they used to have these, like, this before, like, any rap shit or whatever.
But they used to have, like, these after hours and shit called, like,
Outkast and shit like that.
And I was like,
the first time I seen a bitch stick a flashlight
in her ass
and cut it on and off.
What?
Yeah.
What'd you say?
She stuck a flashlight
in her asshole
and cut it on and off.
But I say that to say
because Trick Trick,
they used to run that shit
kind of,
and any nigga used to
act up and shit
They'll lock the doors
On your ass
And just beat the shit out you
So I seen a lot of
Yeah I seen the Goon Squad
Put the tips on a lot of
Motherfuckers man
Shout out to my friend
Trick Trick
Who's never
Showed me anything gangsta
He's always been
The gentleman around me
Yeah that's the cool thing
About him too
That's the greatest shit
He always embraced me
Like when I first came around
Everybody was kind of like
Weirded out by me
Because I like
Wore tight clothes and shit
And all that shit
And he's like
Nah man you from Detroit
We family type shit
Like he never looked at me
Any type of weirdo way
Or nothing like that
So let me just
This last question
Because I just want to just like
Get this out the way
Pizza Oh yeah I've seen that shit Detroit style pizza man Because I just want to just, like, get this out the way.
Pizza.
Oh, yeah, I've seen that shit.
Detroit-style pizza, man.
Buddies, man.
That shit is fire, man.
That came out already?
I've seen that shit.
That was with G Herbo last week. Yeah, man.
You ain't know nothing about the Detroit-style pizza.
Don't get me wrong.
It's good.
It's fire. It's fire. Well, I'm a Digger.
It's fire.
I didn't even know that came out of the video.
It's becoming a phenomenon.
We got Detroit-style pizza in Austin now.
So Detroit is throwing a hat in the ring in the pizza.
Bro, the pizza's amazing, man.
All it is, what it is, is...
Really?
Oh, now you're with Detroit?
I'm telling you.
I said it on that episode.
He did.
He said it.
They actually got some Detroit style pizza restaurants In New York
But don't get me wrong
I understand what you're saying
Ain't nothing better than
That New York dollar slice
Even though it ain't dollars
Thank you
Thank you
That dollar slice
You know you put the peppers
And the parmesan
You know you
Thank you
You dress them up
Thank you
Ain't nothing better than that shit
But you're telling me
Detroit is going to
Throw their hat in the ring
But Detroit style pizza
That's some baller shit
Connor you know
I respect y'all
With the coney dogs
All it is They reversed it It's the sauce On top of the cheese Detroit-style pizza, that's some baller shit, Connor. I respect y'all with the Coney Dogs.
All it is, they reversed it.
It's the sauce on top of the cheese.
That's where y'all lose.
I'm going to be honest. Nah, man.
It's probably though, man.
I think it's more than that.
It's just the way they lose.
It's a whole ass recipe.
It's good, man.
When you in Detroit, man, go to Buddy's Pizza, man.
Okay.
All right, Buddy's Pizza, I'm going to Buddy's Pizza man Okay Alright Buddy's Pizza
I'm going to Buddy's Pizza
Cause I've had Detroit style pizza
Everywhere like
It ain't still
You know they gentrified it man
Cause I'll give y'all a glizzy
Yeah shit's in Whole Foods now
Yeah like
I'll give y'all a glizzy
The coneys
Y'all got some
Yeah but
I like the loose burgers
I'm a loose burger guy
Oh
Which would be
Detroit version of a chopped cheese When I think about it Cause You ever had a loose burger guy. Which would be Detroit version of a chopped cheese
when I think about it.
You ever had a loose burger?
He went too far.
I'm just being honest.
Loose burgers?
You never had a loose burger?
I never had a loose burger.
Loose burger,
they just scrambled.
Because I'm a turkey guy.
Instead of the hot dog,
you're getting scrambled hamburger
with the chili and cheese.
That's what I eat.
But coming up,
like old school,
we eating them fish dogs, man.
Fish dogs. The fish dogs, man. They fucking just get you like... What you an old school We eating them fish dogs man Fish dogs
The fish dogs man
They fucking just
Get you like
What you laughing at
Yeah the fish dogs
The motherfuckers
I ain't gonna lie
I like it
Yeah the fish dogs
It's like a fish patty
On a hot dog bun
With the tartar sauce
And squeeze cheese
So I'm looking at you
As a man
You saying that Detroit
Could throw
Their hat in the ring.
It's two different styles.
You have to compare it to that Chicago deep dish.
Chicago deep dish.
Which is, you know, people like they say in Chicago, they don't eat that.
I respect that.
I think the Detroit one's better.
I'm saying the dollar slice is going to reign supreme every time.
You know, in the hood, the dollar slice.
It's a classic.
It's going to reign supreme.
That New York dollar slice, doesn't be in there.
The only thing about that
because I don't eat
no cheese pizza
anywhere else.
That Dollar Slice cheese pizza.
You eat cauliflower pizza?
Nah, man.
Come on.
He just say nowhere else
other than New York.
When I'm in New York,
you don't get no pepperoni.
You just straight cheese
with garlic and all that shit.
Dress that motherfucker up.
So, yeah.
That's right.
God damn it.
Anywhere else,
you got to get pepperoni for it to be
good, you know?
One more? What the fuck?
