And it looked like you're having a lot more fun nowadays. Like, for some reason. Can we clap? That's what all you. Yeah. Like for some reason I seen you at Swiss party the other day and then I seen you at a couple of other parties and I'm like, see, it's like you actually embracing the industry, like finally. Is that correct almost?

I'm embracing myself. I'm trying to have a little bit of fun. I mean, you know, I grew up a little bit on the wild side so I kind of kind of missed the fun of everything. So yeah, yeah, just trying to get re-acclimated. acclimated into this bullshit industry. You know what I realized the other day? How much shit I've missed, like, for trying to be, like, keep up an image. Like, I've missed so much.

Like, I remember being kicked out of the tunnel. I couldn't go nowhere else. And I thought that was cool, like, as opposed to playing the game. Like, now I want to, you know, I want to go hang out the Soho house. You know what I'm saying? You don't want to do that. Like, I want to be able to, I don't want to have to be tough every day. Like that's the reason why I made my new record Uno Maas because it's like I can't talk about guns no more

It's me personally because I just really don't want to do that shit But I admit I personally missed out on so much so to see like the transitions and see I remember It was it was an episode of Arourage I don't know anybody here watch an entourage Absolutely well it was remember when Vince fell off and then because he did the uh Columbia movie The Pablo Escobar movie and then so Vince said I'm gonna come back to the game And when you came back to the game, I remember Ari Gold saying to, well, you got to play the game this time, Vince. And it feels like the older we get, the more we play the game. You evolve.

That's how you broke it out. Jay, you've been around for a long time. Yeah, yeah, man. I remember the first time, we met JD and when Cam was signed the Unn, when he was doing his first album. Right. And he had all that money, so they was flying us everywhere. We was there in Atlanta.

We went to his house. He had the big mansion out there and all that. He had the pool table and all that dances. I just remember them gambling. You see how I'm pouring now, Jim General? Oh, that's how you think. That's how you're missing. Really?

Yeah, I changed, Jim. Like, that's not even involved. That's Simone's shit, right? This is that front shit. I want this in forms. Informed? Influence. We?

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, you know, let's get into this love and hip-hop thing a little bit. Because it was originally made for you and Chrissy, correct? We made the show. It wasn't made for us. We made the show. It was a guy named Jim Ackerman who ran VH1 at the time.

at the time. She's trying to give me to do a reality show by any cost. Chrissy was trying to do a show at the time, and the show she was doing didn't go through, so I told her I'll be going to try to get the show that Jim Ackerman wanted to do and tell them that make the show more around your life, that includes me,

and I'll be involved with it as much as I need to because I didn't really want to do it. And that's exactly what happened. And from there, everything, rolled into love of hip pop. Right. A little bit more intricate than that, but that's pretty much the basis.

Right, and now you guys got your own show, correct? On Wii TV, correct? Yeah, we have one season on Wee TV. Oh, okay. Chrissy and Mr. Jones. We also did a... Yeah, that was VH1, Chrissy and Mr. Jones.

And by whenever was... By the never, yeah. It's been a long time. We got a few shows on our Bella at this point, so, you know, I mean, it's been good TV. He's been good does. Now what do y'all like better?

What do you like better? Music or TV? Um, I don't know. The thrill of music and catching the hit ain't nothing like it, so you know how that goes and shit like that. That's, it's more explosive than being the number one actor, the number one football player. It ain't nothing like having that smashed record and shit like that. Right.

I mean, but TV, I love the production side of TV, being able to put televisions on TV, you know, ideas out there and shit like that. Like, it's dope. Plus, it ain't no better form of marketing and promotion for yourself or anything that you're trying to sell as far as being on television. Best commercial ever. What would you like better? Well, I've never had a smash hit, so I can't say.

But I think that they kind of complement one another. Right. So I think they're necessary. It's a necessary even. Right. I'm not going to lie. This is like my first year, I guess, a producer in television. And how you feel, budd?

I love that shit. That shit is way more. It's a different. It's like you putting some shit together, you put it out there, and then you're allowing the people to enjoy. It's way less stress because... And it's a different pressure.

And TV is a commitment of things. So like when you do music, like if you get a hit, everybody takes claim for your hit. Right. Anyway, like, what? I gave them to beat. I hope them up with the music. That's because when you do music,

you start at the bottom. You did? As opposed to when you, on production, you're the boss. Yeah. You did. So everything, you know, you know, you do the music. You do. You know what I mean?

They were to give us music deals back in the day like that. When we started at the top, that'd be much different. This shit is just weird like that. Like you say, the feedback of great songs is... All right. So many people claim your success, like when it's a... And so many people claim your success when it's a TV show too, but it is a collective of people.

Some people still your success too when it comes to a TV show. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, wow. There's a lot of fake drink champ out there. Let's throw them out there. We see y'all. We see y'all. Because you put something on the table, does it make you the drink jet?

You gotta relax out there, but I don't let nobody hustle. But I've been seeing a lot of them taking off the, even not just the liquor and things like that. Yeah, but so, okay, so you see somebody knocking in shit. They do say, uh, imitation is the best form of fat I have. But fuck all lack. Yeah, fuck all lack. How do you feel about it? I don't like it.

I don't like the niggas do my songs over. I don't like it. I'm gonna be honest. You're like no invitation at all. No, this one girl, she cheated over sometimes. And she sometimes is a record that is about my father. So I'm not gonna any, I don't know, I don't appreciate any other artist touching my shit.

But she went and she, I don't know her name, so it's probably fucked up, but she kept the basis of the song still alive. Like, I liked that, I liked that. So home girl, whoever did is sometimes over, she went to Nye's portrait, and she shot the video there. So, you know, I don't like that. I don't like, I don't like people take other people's, because we came from the idea, we came from the era where we had to be creative.

You know what I'm saying? Like, you couldn't be like the next guy. Like, you know, definitely. No plagiarism. Yeah, like, like my favorite rapper in the world at the time was Granddaddy I.U. Nobody knows who Granddaddy I don't. You know what I'm saying. Like, I mean, you know, you're like a young generation.

But what I'm saying is I study Granddad at you, right? But if you look at my style, you can't see no Granddad at you in me. Because I've focused to be something different. You know what I'm saying? You got him. I praised him but I went the other way so but with that being said how did you how do you feel about these like this is mad fake dip set movements out there right now this mad move is trying to be y'all like I like that honestly I mean I'm not don't lie it's okay it's okay it's a different time so it's like it's like If this was in the era when we was doing what we do,

yeah. Niggas wanted to did, even tried to even remotely do anything like the sort, but at this day and age we set so much of trends and did so much for the culture and shit like that is only right that the kids follow suit and shit like that. So when I do see the bird up or niggas say, drips in, you know what I mean, huh? Shit, that's, they like my grandkids. Right. You did?

Right. Yeah, like, that's how I feel about it. Like, you know what I mean? I see these same artists in the street and they show respect. Right. But they ain't like they're stealing no shit. They just copy and paste and shit like that. I respect it.

Yeah, no, I, I ain't read it. Not a copy and face. You got about it. Right. Right. It's not about it having a hit of nothing and shit like that. You know, Dipsset wasn't really about the hits. It was about the movement.

The movement. The movie. giving a bunch of niggas from the street opportunities to get out the street. Like this, people that came from the Dipset movement that are doing so well in the industry now, like from all sorts of people that were interns, the people that were engineers,

the people that were artists, the people that were style, like everybody, I see them all in the game, hold them major weight and shit like that. It makes me feel good when I see that shit, you know what I mean? So, all right. That's an ill point because,

like when you see successful companies, you see Rockefeller, You see these guys are over there and they got, you know, this guy from over there and he's the president of such and such now. Like, so it's always, it's always something dope. You see that? Now, what's your favorite era of hip-hop? My favorite era of hip-hop? Yeah, your favorite era?

I don't know, man. Like, you know, I got, like, my favorite era probably, uh, would have to be being in the living room when mom's break dancing. That's 80s, man. 98.7 kids was playing hip-hop. Bradleur. People don't even remember that. It wasn't know how 97, it was 98.7 kids, they used to play all the hip-hop songs and that.

Like, every Friday, they used to play all the rap music and shit like that. And my mom's, and get in the living room and breakdance and electric boogie and all that type of shoot with me. That was my introduction to hip-hop. And ever since then, I've been in the school of hip-hop. Like, I studied this shit. Like, I studied every rapper. I studied every rapper style. Who was fly? Who wasn't fly?

Which n'n' could really rap. which nigga was aggressive which nigga was really in the street who had a street name like it just was part of the game i brought every sauce magazine i brought all in class where you take all the right-ons from the little girls and shit like that and just wanted to see what the rapist hat on from eric b and rakken who used to actually do my favorite and shit like that you have all the motherfucking uh Gucci uh dappad dance suits and shit like that with the air ones like eric b was a spooky nigger man like niggas no big daddy k to eric b for me that that might that that that would have to be like my top two of all time and shit like that would you say Kane and Eric B or did I mean Rock Camp all right here yeah yeah I want to say I'm like your camera on your same Joe you know the whole that my bad Rockham be great the great one and shit like that but these are the are the first raps that I started to remember did you ever meet Rockham I met Rachem and I mean Cam had to make a stall get the fuck out

there right now was some fantasy on me up that was before we signed the deal it's like 96 we He went brick his heart on this shit. You know, we ain't had it. We can't rapping. We almost melted in this stuff. He had the hoodie on. He came with some Hennessy and shit. We're like, why can you go?

Oh, what the fuck? No, we weren't crazy in that shit. Like, yo, that was like, you know what I mean? Like, and there's just all those moments that I remember coming up. Like, anytime I got to see a rapper that just like instills some type of energy. I mean, not saying that I thought I could ever be a rapper,

I just loved the lifestyle. And then I used to look at all the hustles and the drug dealers. And it just was one of the two and shit like that because of how fast they was living. And you always see the cars and the women and the jury. And as a kid, I just was stuck. I was just like, that was a fix for me and shit like that. And who knew?

I always love when a artist is not proud to be a fan. Like, I don't give a fuck. Whenever I see Granddad at you, I'm going to go like this. Absolutely. If I see KRS one, I'm like this. I see fucking. That's what the show is. Every time I say Snoop, I go crazy.

Yeah, that's my main man. Like, from deep cover when Snoop first came out, I was like, oh, he's an ill one, this is too bad. I stole his seat, me and my man, Omar, when we were in 12th grade, Richmond, we stole his CD out of, what was the H&V, the H&V stores, the music stores? That was HMV, right?

HMB, isn't that the clothes store? No, that's H&M. Okay, I'm up. I mean, that's like, you know what you're like in 40. It's not, you know, no. H-MV. No, it was a music star. That was like 86thew.

That was, that was damn near next to Harlem. So that's, yeah, yeah, because the queen's like, you have like Jimmy Jazz and shit like that, yeah, yeah. So that was that was age, I just stole Snoop. Snoop was one of them that niggas learned that shit damn it overnight, like,

niggas, no, I miss that part of the hip hop ever, when you buy a CD and you just sit there, and you study, like you had to examine the next morning. the next morning. See, I mean you just said, as I hope the new generation, from what he said before, and I asked him something

and what he's saying now, is like, see, people just think that you just become successful. Like, people just, people like, I heard artists say, yeah, I'm gonna be like Jim Jones. And it's like, they don't hear, they didn't hear nothing you just said.

They just think that Jim Jones was the hype man that became the rapper, and it was easy. They don't think nothing. They don't think it was that easy. Like, they don't understand. You know what my favorite ever is in hip hop that I participated in is

1998, and that was just doing Towers with you guys like oh my favorite era I participated yeah yeah yeah definitely Y'all 97 98 98 99 98 is mine you heard like the diplomat was something different because that changed I like but just the introduction to the game came got us because I was deal for the whole shit I remember when H Cam got his fucking deal like niggas did like Big did one of the most incredible shits in America like he like in the world like he wouldn't whatever happened when me spring cam to the joint so can that he gonna give him a deal

And then God bless Big had passed away. And then Cam, brother, his cousin, bloodshed had passed away. It was like, Cam just went to like an emotional spiral and shit like that. Like it was, he was pissed off because he knew he was right there at the door. And we was in a liquor store. And then they was doing the, I love Big Papa video in Mount Morris Park.

And we came from liquor store. He's like, let's go see what's going on over there. Lockton everybody over there. Everybody who Cam was, he was sizzling at that time on the mixtapes and all that shit. And then I seen Un was over there with Buck. I didn't know who they was at the time, but I knew who I was because I remember it was like Undeis and they showed them in the sauce in the sauce magazine, dig. The sauce was so informative.

Like you wouldn't know who nobody was. Like, had a picture of an man. I was like, oh, that's the dude that got the 64 million and all that shit. And did the Undeis, uh, record label were Bigger for. And then I seen him. And I'm like, yo, Ken, that's the dude right there. That's a big part of him. We're going over there.

And when I'm like, yo, small man, Ken, Big said before he passed away, he was going to give. He was like, yeah, call us on Monday, dude. Oh, so that was. That big definitely was signing cam, but... I'm telling you, Big said that he had the passing away. Wow. Then we go to Biggs, uh, Loxinger, we love Big Popper Memorial video. Should we see it on? I'm like, this is my man, Cam.

He's like, yeah, dude. Big told you or told us about you. Right. Call us a Monday. Just like that. I have a freestyle from Cam that he said that the... Let's go to the video tape. He said the Ryan... That's what you told me.

Oh, wow. He's like this is the round I spit for big. And when he did was that, at 97, 98? That was 96. No, that was 96. We can't submit that. Oh, 96. You can't submit that for Biggs.

That was 96. Remember Big died in 97. Mm. And then, and then Bresha died of 97. Okay. And then, and so, and so. This was like, I don't know, Paul, it was like 97, I think. Yeah.

And it was kind of spooky because after we did decide the deal, our first show was like, damn you know, and Puffy World. Damn you on Puffy World's tour. We did like two shows on camera, and then they're like, oh, you're going to Miami. We're going to Puffy World's Tour. So our first show was like the big Puffy World Tour. Crazy, right?

Every night you see the big memorial then the World Tour ended on the Memorial of Big Passing Away. So it was just, eerie how you get signed and then you just, it just was nuts. What was the first year you did Summer Jam? Was that 98 or 99? I got a funny story.

Y'all almost killed me. Oh no. What? Doesn't sound funny. Yeah. At all. Listen. Remember, they broke me out as a guess.

98. It was 98? Alright. It's 98 or 99. Because this is the first time you had some of them and I was yet surprised guess. I think it was 98. Oh, I didn't know you're talking about. Oh, please tell me.

Please tell me back. That was no. Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, that was, that's 98. 98, 98, 98. It's 98. This is your first time having Summer Jam, right? Oh my God. So we went and rehearsed.

So in rehearsal, they kept saying, Norrie, wait for the boom. So I was like, all, cool. So you hear boom, and then I come out. And I say my shit. So what happened was, the boom didn't come. I'm like, yo, they're like, go on. I swear, no, man.

Damn trying to do too much. Yeah, they had the big set up. But come out of this box, you come out of this box, the pyro's gonna go up. That's exactly what it was. You know, puppy-puffie-ha-niggas. brain fucked up with the pyroes. Like it was pyro season. We practiced. We got the pyros now. We need these shit to blow up on stage, nigga.

And the crazy shit in practice we had it perfect. No, it was, hey, we did a last one of the rest of the actual part. It was, you know, it was just me. That shit blew up, like right here. Like, and, and, but it kind of to the crowd, it looked like, because I lit up. Oh shit. So, kind of to the crowd, it was like, oh, he killed that. But he killed it was like, but I'm like this, man.

You know, I was, I was done. I was just like, yo, that shit was crazy. You know why I liked it, um, 1998 was one of my favorite years because of, uh, please, because of, I felt like we didn't really know what we were getting into. We were gullible. Like, I had a little bit more experience than y'all because I had just dropped the war report the year before. But really, I didn't know because I was on my own. So, and then we would, I'll see y'all in the shows and we was just so happy at that time.

And then we learned the business afterwards. Like you said, it just was being innocent and just soaking up everything, getting to see all your idols and shit like that, not knowing that they're now competition, but niggas were so green and shit like that. Like, man, like 98, 99 was some good years. Like, it really turned life around for us and shit like that. Right. Niggins used to come to the pride.

Like, it just, we had a different type of bond. We would come out to Queen. We come out to Queens, play basketball with y'all. We shot videos with you. I'm gonna tell you something. Nicky mind me up one day. Listen, at Hors and Carrey's video shoot, right, I'm getting busted and I'm gonna keep threatening them with basketball.

I'm like, yo, I'm gonna, we're gonna play ball. This is why I did it to Looney Tunes. I did the same exact end of Loney Tunes that he did to me. So I ain't know these things is nice. Like, these things just, I don't know why. The New Cam, I had New Can because I play for Riverside. I think he played, no, I played for Goucho's one year. Or he played from one of them shit

humongous they're changing life since the 90s and shit I look at these young brothers and I see them getting money and I'm so happy for them but they don't they don't know the era of a big budget like that they don't know they don't they're getting their show money you they get to they chicken they got that damn packed you got the streams they know how to warn the radio but these niggas don't know about going in their office and negotiating $4 million deal, $5 million deal, like all on you going to the bank with a check and the bank them and the, Mr. Jones, how are you?

You know, it's totally nuts and shit like that, like, yo. And when did those budgets stop, like around 2004? I think they stopped around the time you was working for Atlantic. Around that time is when the budgets like kind of decreased. 2000, I got, I got a, I got it, I caught a nice lick one in 2008. Oh, okay. Okay, there's so no. I was like the, I was like the last of the last. I kind of slipped in because of the ball on record.

They was like, man, I was like, I ain't doing no 360, I'm not enjoying venture. I was kicking all that shit I heard for my whole career.
