No, like a giant family like the Robertson. Like a Robertson size. family of bat. Oh, no, that means there's more of them every day. There's a lot.

Yes. That means Willie doesn't know half their name. No. So we have like a cook porch that's got like a fireplace and all that, you know, where the pizza oven is. They're all up in there. So we have those old beams and they have,

they're the old beams that have like, you know, holes where like old-timey, like wood. Big. Big things held them together back in the day. Yeah, big things. So anyway,

There's these big chunks out of them, and so they've made them their home, and it is crazy. Now, on the plus side, we don't have any mosquitoes, which is a huge plus to Louisiana. They are eating the mosquitoes. Do you have any guano? But what poop? That's the problem. That's the negative. My poop porch is covered in bat poop all the time.

We're constantly cleaning it. So we've been on a mission. But no, here's the worst part. Nothing's been good so far. You tried to sell me on the mosquitoes are gone. There's a chance, though, that somebody like, you know, John Shepherd could end up being the Cape Crusader, man. Well, we tried to do that with John Luke. Yeah, he got to do it.

I know, so he didn't take. Now we get a second generation. Somehow they're getting inside of our house. Oh, yeah. We have gotten, I found, Ella and I just walked up on that house on the floor, just in that house. On the floor, just in our life. You hear it like chirping, just laying on the floor. There's just a bat on the floor?

Yes, yes. No, that keeps happening. That's not just once. I'm not coming over. You know. They've made it in the house. They made it in the house. It's their house now. They didn't make it.

They claimed it. No, that's their house. It's the bat's house. Y'all just live there. Start over. Start over. Burn it down. Man, y'all have had a disturbing amount of wildlife

entered that house. I know. I know. What else is that? The possum. Y'all should close the doors. We had a possum sitting on our dishes. Once you get to a certain amount of squirrels.

square feet, the animals just feel like they're still outside and just walk right in. That's it. No, I think it's because it used to be full of people all the time, so you don't want to come there, right? Well, now, Willie and Corrie, you're. They're almost empty nestress, but they all live in their yard. So, I mean, they come back. That's pretty full of people all the time.

That is fitting, though. His last name is Robertson. Yeah. The wildlife just comes down. So the wildhouse shows up. Oh, remember under Phil and Kay's gun cabinet? What was, remember those squirrels? that were living there with their gun cabinet.

Had squirrels in the home? In their house, living under the gun cabinet. At Philly's house? Hey, look. The reason they found out about it it was because, there was always nuts on the floor,

the holes. And Kay was saying, where is all this coming from? It's true. Squirrels is coming here. Oh, she'd clean it up and then the next thing you know, there'd be a half of pican laying there

and she'd say, you know, then they feel finally got to look at it. You pull it back and you get grief. Makes that spider in their wall. Makes that spider in your house so that they felt pretty pedestrian. That spider was the size of a squirrel.

Thank you. You had a spider in your house, the size of a squirrel? It was huge. And one commenter works in pest control. Did you take a picture? I took a video of my whole family standing on the kitchen table.

And then he sent it to me. They secured him because he heard a blood-cutting scream. I mean, Allison thought, I thought there's a snake in the house. another human. A wolf. What kind?

What kind of spider was it, Martin? It appeared to be a fishing spider is what I call it. It was this big. I mean, they're big. Are they poisonous? Nah, I mean, they probably got a little. You probably don't want to get bit. Here's a little known fact about me.

I'm not scared of spiders, but I am terrified of spider bites. Does that make sense? Okay, here, let me explain. Here's the thing. If I see a spider, I'm fine. Like, I'm not, that's fine. Yeah, you're bigger than it. I'm bigger than I can step up.

on it. Allison disagrees. And Carter. If I see a random bite on me that I don't know where it's from, I'm concerned that it's a spider bite. It's a spider bite. They're all spider bite. Yeah, I'm always like, do you think that looks like a spider bite?

Because I had an aunt that got bit by a brown recluse and she had to cut like a chunk of her flesh out. Yes. And so every bite that's on the kids or on me, I'm like asking Willie, like, do you think that looks like a spider bite? Well, no, no, because... Should we draw a circle? Should we draw a line around?

Exactly. The recluse is the one. If he bites you, you got to do the same thing. Exactly. Or you're not turning into the gang ring and everything. It's bad. That's why I'm scared of them. Yeah.

That's bad. Well, there... Yeah. Back in the old days. Well, that spider that was in my house would have been us, you would have known because we'd have been missing a large portion of our arm. And you could shoot webs out of your hands. Yeah, it was huge.

I like all the superhero animals are just moving in with you. That's fine. They are. Makes me want to come to the neighborhood. There's no possums. Whalen and Jackson just let flies in every day. Actually, you know what's odd now that I think about? I actually have two bat stories.

Who has two bat stories? One is John Luke. Ace Ventura. And the Ace Ventura has two bad stories? Oh, no, he only has one. You're right. You got him. I beat him.

John Luke got bit by bat when he was young. Okay. The other one is with Missy. Have y'all heard this story? Oh, no, but I'm, I won't to. Okay. Pulling up a chair. This really happened, and she handled it way better than I would have expected.

She was actually pretty calm about it, which was shocking. Okay, we were in Uganda for a mission trip. Oh, the whole family. Ugandan bat. They get bigger when you go that way. Oh, yeah, yeah. Even more. Our bats are pretty little.

We were floating, did this floating trip down the Nile River, which was amazing. It was like, and she was terrified of. it because it was... I really feel like I'm in the Old Testament right now. This really happened. Uganda floating down the Nile. They're floating down the Nile full of crocodile. This really happened.

We get on this white water rafting and they started explaining to us and like it was intense. This was not like, you know, America has safety rules about white water rafting. No, this was some intense white water rafting. Like John Luke fell out. Like someone had to rescue him. We all flipped. The boat flipped. Everyone was in the water.

And Missy was not. sure about this trip at all. You could tell. She was just like, I cannot believe I got me into this. And what are we doing? Anyway, so we're coming up to where this little island that we're going to have lunch on. And as we're pulling up to it, I mean, it is swarming with bats. And they say, that's where we're having lunch. And we like, ha, ha, ha, that's funny. No, that really was. We were having lunch. The leaves on the trees were not leaves. They were bats hanging off the trees everywhere. So we're pulling up, this is for real, we're pulling up to this island and we're looking up at the bats, which, you know, don't look up when you see bats. We're looking at the bat and a bat

pooped right in Missy's eye. Literally, it just dropped right in her eye. I'm out. She, I know. You know how to look out of been in a Nile River. Exactly. We start splashing water in her eyes. And you get eaten. Yes. We start. splashing water in her eye. It was crazy. She was so calm. I would have, that, like, I didn't mind getting flipped out of the boat, but a bat pooping in my eye, I don't think I would have handled that.

Yeah. I was impressed. You know, health-wise, they're bad to be around. Exactly. She could have gotten the antivirus or something. Health-wise, they're bad. But she was totally dumb. Because when people go in and we've got people that, you know, check them in all this

other stuff, they wear the hazmat suit. Yeah, you don't want to breathe that stuff. You don't want to breathe it? Hey, yo, it's just, you know, because they eat anything. They're a blood meat eater. Well, what they told us were these were like fruit bats, so they weren't the bad kind. So it was fine. Yeah, they're like the ones on Bluey.

Yeah, they were nice bad. Oh, and hey, they were free bats. They were big. Yeah, these are not. The fruit bat are not little. This is like this show hanging down. They were literally the trees. They throw their wings out.

Yeah. He's a fox squirrel with wings. Yeah, it was. That's what they were. He's a big sucker. And we got out, we ate lunch there. It was great. It was really interesting and cool.

You y'all were like, you know what? The thing that I wasn't. After all that, you're like, who's got the picnic? Well, where else you're going to eat? We were like. I'm going to go back on the plane. The first thing that got me when you said Nile River. Yeah.

I said, wait a minute, the Nile River is full of crocodiles. I don't think I'll make that trip. Why not? Hey, no. You're 78. Man, what else you got? No. Let's go.

It's an adventure. It's adventure. You can live to tell the story. I've watched too many outdoor movies about crocodile. And then Al went to somewhere in Africa. And they walked by a little pool in the middle of a town. And that pool is full of giant crocodiles. I mean, 23 foot long.

Wow. You know, wide at this table. Just huge. I was at an expo all weekend, so you know what that means? Sleeping in a hotel. You know what I didn't have? You had your mattress. Didn't have that mattress.

It's called Elijah Peel. It's a story of this, like, rock star that's, like, at his peak. Just think, like, everyone's just in love with him. He is at his max. But, of course, as we all know, life. And folks, we had them on our podcast.

How was your first movie experience? Did you, you enjoyed it a lot, I'm guessing, since you're signing up for six more of them? Is that, is that a fair assessment? Did you like, did you really enjoy craft services? Because that was my favorite part of Duck Dynasty. That's where you get to go eat. Yeah, I know, but.

Did you say a heart attack? He has a heart attack. He has a heart attack. She's terminally ill. And they meet in the hospital. That's going to be hard to make a sequel. This is one going to be one of these tear jerkers that, yeah, very emotional involvement. It is.

We got, this is a, you know, a fair amount of comedy in there. you know, lighten it up. There's, uh, it's real heartfelt. It got some great songs as well, but yeah,

it's got some tearjerkers. Do you actually sing? Yeah. Oh, that would make me nervous. Oh, yeah, they had me,

I can't sing. Well, then I would be nervous too, yeah. Yeah. But you can sing. Sometimes, yeah. Sometimes,

I can sing all the time. Did you do real drugs? I have, yeah, you have to, you have to, when your method like that, you're like,

put this on, put this on the budget. Yeah. In here, I can't fake this. No. I cannot act. I need this real.

Oh, there's realism to this. He didn't really do drugs. Well, I don't know. Is there realism to it? I hope so. You know, the writer-director, Kevin Seppi, he's sober and he's sober for years. And he wrote this kind of like as a loose, I don't think it's totally based off his life. But, I mean, he's been through it.

Sometimes I don't. Usually in acting stuff, when I go there, I try to trick them that I'm British. I love doing that. Here, I'm trying to trick you. Or do you just swap half a British. When I was, like the two months going into it, I was just doing. this incessantly, right?

And so... British accents! Sorry, I was, when I was learning this, I was just like doing this incessant all the time. So, um, he makes sense and I always go out, I feel like dinner, a couple of bruise or something. And, uh, the waitress would always hit on me because I had a cool accent.

It's always, wow, you're so lyrical with your voice. I'm like, thank you. Where are you from? I'm from Michigan. Yeah. Keep them guessing. How long did it take y'all to, are y'all through filming this movie?

Yeah, I think so. So how long was we on spent? It was so fast. Was it 10 days? Nine days? What? It was like, it was like just shy of two months. Good.

Grief. It was not one month. It was not one month. From the side, we were one month. It was about to month. It was a month or more. A more. I love her life.

And today, my mom, and today my mom was like, well, he was actually like, if I'm not awake by, my nap is, if my mouth, I'm trying to think what you said.

If I'm not up by 115, You guys have permission to knock on my door. Like bang on it. Terrify me. Bring the door down. Hey, kick that door in. I put, I, I hit all the locks because I thought they would. I thought, foot through it.

Get a change on it. You should have been an actor. You can take naps at 115. Yeah. I am. That's why sigh waited to you. I am an actor, son. I don't naps.

I, you are. You are. I actually, I've got a quick question for you guys. There you go ahead. So on Duck Dynasty, how much of it is you guys just riffing? Like, I'm going to play a prank on my family today. I'm going to mess with them a little bit because I feel like you guys, yeah, cut from the same cloth. Here's the thing.

If they wrote anything down, I had a lady and all she had to do was I used to have a Tupperware cup. Mm-hmm. Well, the light smells real quick in it. Oh, yeah. So her one job was keep me in ice and teeth. You're moving story, man. They would hand her something written. I'd look at it, crumbles up to the trash can.

You know the incredible thing about Si doing that is they would have like scenarios written out for us, not lines because we're funnier than they were. Yeah. And words of Phil. I can't say that anymore. Never mind. Oh, old dare got a hold of a bad batch. Never mind. That's neither here nor there.

But Saa would look at that that quickly and remember everything everybody was supposed to do. Like not just what Sa was supposed to do. He would know what everybody was supposed to do. And if you weren't doing it in a timely fashion, he'd do it for you. I'd help you out. He'd be like, I'll take this point. My line now. Yeah.

He's like, hey, we've got to get to where I'm going here. The knack that he had for a piece of paper that said, start here and here, it was incredible. Like, it was wild. But, yeah,

I'd say 92% of it was off the cuff based off a loose idea. There's, course, most of it, like we tell a lot of people, we used to have the old duck call room down at filling caves. And in there, we had it,

the insulation was exposed. So, you know, the back of insulation is like cardboard. Oh, so we would just write funny stuff that happened on that. Like when they weren't here, we would write down like this, this happened. That way we wouldn't forget it.

And then so that was a lot of the times the idea board was just the wall of the duck all. I look, 90% of the stuff that we did, either Willie or Chase or Phil came up with it. Because it had happened to us to some level. So it was all based on something that happened until you go to the family. Yeah. Okay. So everyone's got a bit of. a comedian in him here.

Oh yeah. Oh, Hunter. You better if you work here. They used to say, what do y'all come up with all these one-liners? Uh-huh.

I mean, that's how it all reads. I mean, everything that you guys do, it's like ridiculous situations, you know. But the way you guys are playing, you're like, this is, there's no way this could have ever been. The best part was is when we started, we had one director. He had some family issues at home. So he had to leave and we got a new one. You know, this one director that we started out with, if he had the schedule for eight hours, you're going to film all eight hours.

Love it. So, hey, the new director comes on. on board and we have a big meeting. And while he's doing his staying for about an hour and a half, he's telling us what we're going to be doing all that. Well, I'm over just doing whatever I normally done. Wasn't even paying no attention to him. I'm just, yeah, yeah.

So we start walking out to go film. And Ethan's talking to Jim, the head cameraman. He said, we end for, we in for a rough day there, ain't with Jim? And Jim said, what are you talking about? And I'm behind them now, listening to all that. So he said, because the whole time I was talking, I was doing whatever he wanted to do. You know, I tapped the guy on the back on the shoulder,

and I said, Ethan, I said, hey, look, I said, when we start filming, I said, I'm listening for three things. Speeding, down, action. I said, when them three words hit the airway, you'll see a different person. I'll show up. So, you know,

so we get out, you know, we film for a hour and a half. Y'all, and Ethan looks at Jim and says, well, what are you thinking? And Jim said, you're not going to be just what you filmed. It's perfect. One take, that's all you need.

That's better than good. No, no. So if it'd been the other director, okay, we would have filmed it for another seven hours. Yep. Well, Ethan said, well, I'll see you in the morning at 8 o'clock. Got in the can.

Y'all and I said, Ethan, you was worried about having trouble with me. I said, some men, you are going to get that long good. No, the good news is everybody here's protected because I ain't called them by the right name yet. I was like, I don't remember a single Ethan in the last 20 years. Now, Jim did exist. Jim was director of photographer. Jim O. He was a head camera.

Yeah, our good friend. Jim O. Best one was he was talking to Phil one. day. Yeah. Y'all, and Phil was saying, Jim, I got a question you ask you. He said, what do you think about a man that will come up to the line of sanity? He comes up to it and he stepped across it.

Shapeslesles. Completely, completely, the young lady disappears in a suburb. Person that nobody knows shows up. Thousand percent. Maybe a duck, maybe not a person. It doesn't have to be a person. Doesn't have to be.

sticks out above the rest was there one that you were like man that was a lot of fun or that was really cool or or anything there was this scene like it's not like

It's like these scenes that are stuck together or whatever. And it had this big guy. Oh, I mean, this big guy. Okay. He taught me how to do ukulele. Well, taught me. He didn't teach me right. And I tried.

And he brought me pizza. Oh, wow. Yeah, but he stole some of my pizza. how rude. And let's see. Y'all had a blast doing this.

For hours. You've been doing. I can already see they will play this in hospitals. Yeah. Yeah. But we had. No, no, I'm serious. They will play this in hospitals to help people that are ill.

Oh, yeah, to watch the recovery story of it all. So what about you, Malcolm? Is there a scene that sticks out in your mind? Those were so fun. The pizza one would be fun. Knowing that there wasn't any sound, I just got to, I was basically, how do I make her just laugh? He pretended to be a, he pretend. My goal was make her break character every time.

He was tickling me for hours. And he dressed up as a mummy and came in, and then I just, I discovered he wasn't really a mummy. That was. Surprise. Surprise. He's not really a mommy. I was really mad because I was about to prove my mom that I can fight down a mummy. You mean your mom.

Yeah, mom or mommy? My, my mom, my mom. My mommy. And there was a wheelchair race. Oh, that was fun. And I didn't win. And just because he had skill. but I was pushed

so I don't know how I didn't win Oh my God Oh you're playing a A young lady that's Tomily ill Mm-hmm Yep

And I'm the rock star That crashes into the hospital And she's a fan of Elijah Peel So she's just I mean Incessant troublemakers So she wanders on into my room

And I can't get rid of her Because I'm bedridden So she just keeps showing up That's what I do do. I act old and wise. She's not going to let you get rid of them. No.

Old and wise. No, she doesn't. Yeah. And, you know, she's just like the voice of reason and faith that Elijah Peel needs right then and there. With a little bit of with a little bit of sass. So doing the movie, I mean, a faith, a faith-based movie with a full redemption story, did being the characters have any impact on your life? Like, you know, I mean, Redemption is real, right?

Like redemption is the thing that we all look for. I mean, it's rooting for the underdog, all that kind of stuff. So playing that has to be powerful in your life, I would think. Like, you know, one of them kind of deals? I think, for me, playing it was, I mean, it's such a fun character to play. It's so dynamic. And it kind of feels like a master class getting, the opportunity to do it.

But I think the biggest part has been like going to the film festivals with it and the showings and having people come up afterwards and be like, oh, my child is going through this. I have a niece or nephew that's going through something similar. And I don't think I was ready for that to come out of the showings and have it actually touch people's lives where they're at. And then coming up to me to just be like, thank you for doing this. I mean, I'm kind of, I'm pretty unsurious in general.

Oh, because everybody. That was a very kind of grounding moment immediately after. When people are in that, in that moment, okay, regardless of what they fight. Yeah. Okay. They feel all alone. Okay. And then for somebody to do something on the screen and it brings a little happiness and smiles to their face, that means a lot.

Yeah. I've had people come to tell me that when they was going through chemotherapy for cancer, that I made them get through it because when they needed to laugh or to smile, they looked at this idiot doing something stupid. I've been there watching you guys. To me, that made it all worth it. I wasn't ready for the kind of reality check of that. we didn't know what to do. Yeah, you're like, I don't know. Here is a kid. Don't they just dying. Yeah. Yeah. And the last thing they wanted to do was spend some time with this crazy crascle. Yeah.

So I went to my knees and told Almighty, hey, make me funny, make me something that will help help this kid get through this crap. He did that beforehand. He beat you to that. He prepared you for that. That's the way I see her. Yeah. I tried my best to make him one of the best Christians. Don't never let anybody kill your, what is the words of?

Spunk. Well, Spunk and the love that you have for what you do. Don't ever let nobody take it from you. If they try to, I'll literally throw them in a dumpster. Well, no, because, hey, it's, Hey, that's more precious than silver or gold, darling. Rubbish. What you do?
