Why are you look so surprised, Rebecca?
I don't understand.
So like...
It's up to you.
Oh.
Yeah.
Can you hear better like that?
Are you fine like this?
It's up to you.
One, two, three.
Like, you can hear us better.
You don't have to wear it.
Allison doesn't wear it when she comes on.
Really?
Yeah.
I don't know.
Brady doesn't either.
But we're all...
We've all shot too many shotguns.
We can't hear anything.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, we just...
Okay, I won't wear it.
I'm not going to speak.
Your hair look better without.
I'm not going to speak for Johnny D.
I and I wear them because we're dead.
Is this a video?
Yeah.
Like too.
Too many,
too many shotguns too cool.
You didn't know this was on video?
No.
I don't know.
We better get rolling.
All right.
Are we ready?
I have no idea.
I have no idea what we're going to talk about, by the way.
Oh, well, I got to take.
Okay.
I got that I got that come.
I know just because of John David.
I want to know what it's like coming to America.
I've only seen the movie.
Oh, we started.
Oh, are we?
Welcome back to the duck call room, ladies and Jim.
I almost said podcast.
Like, we don't have a name.
We have a very special guest with us today.
If you're not watching on YouTube.
If you are, you've already, it's spoiler alert.
The most special guest.
You see the furthest traveled Robertson is with us and who's now last name is Laughlin.
Right?
Yeah.
I got all those right.
Yeah, okay.
I was making sure I didn't go out of order.
Rebecca is here.
And it's like, so cool.
You finally joined us.
No, no.
And we're going to, this, look, back when I was like, oh, 12, 13, 14, 15 and at age,
they had a show on TV named, you know, they would find somebody a celebrity or somebody,
and then they would call it, they would say, this is your life.
And then that person would come on TV.
and say, okay, I was born wherever
and their whole life.
So guess what, Rebecca?
Is this a...
This is your life.
You're alive.
Okay, this is my life.
Yeah.
So we won't know because I, see,
you know, Willie adopted you.
You, what, was it an exchange student?
I was.
She's my foreign exchange cousin.
I know.
Well, no, no, but I'm just saying,
I'm trying to set this up.
Yes.
Okay.
He's trying to explain to me what in case they don't know.
In case they don't know.
You didn't see the greatest night of television history?
What was the greatest night of television?
What was the greatest night of television?
Well, no, no, because see, that's what I won't her to tell her story.
What was the greatest night of television?
I really don't know this young lady.
Rebecca, do you not remember it was 2014 and season five of Duck Dynasty premiered?
Me and you?
With two episodes.
Yeah, this was the peak.
It really tell.
It really held off after we started with y'all.
I know.
It went.
So you're aware.
When it had all of us.
When it had all of us in this.
there it was climbing.
Showed y'all, there we go.
We were the highest two episodes ever.
Yeah, I know.
Or like number two and three.
Yeah.
It was just.
We were?
Yes.
Okay.
I did not know that.
Have you ever been through the tour?
There's a list of episodes over there that show the ratings out beside them.
So season five episode one was named Boomerang Becca.
That's her.
Which was all about you.
Which is you.
Did you not know this?
I don't think I've ever seen it.
she sigh no sigh would have seen that one because it was a season premiere yes i would have been there for that one
there was a party well why don't i remember i do not like to watch myself on tv or hear myself this is why
boy podcast are really bad for you yeah this is like this this is why i don't rarely do this
are you going to let your kids watch this podcast of course not yes why not i'm gonna let mine watch it
It is on YouTube, so they will probably find it.
They'll find it.
Have they ever seen the original episode of Duck Dynasty of you?
No, are you kidding me?
If she hadn't.
Rebecca, you lead to let them see that.
I don't know.
You're their mom.
I'm a little embarrassed.
You're a star.
You're already their superhero.
That's right.
Yeah.
We do watch the new episode of the Revival.
Okay.
Oh, so they'll watch themselves.
Yeah, they watch themselves, but I don't want to show them myself.
Why not?
I don't know.
Okay, start from the beginning.
Anyways, those were the two episodes.
Both of us, eight and a half million people watched us and then booed us.
I didn't know where that's such a big deal.
We're not.
Notice they didn't invite us back.
Well, look, all right.
You expect to start from the beginning of where she's from.
Okay.
And how she ended up here.
Okay, so originally from Taiwan.
Okay.
And moved here as an exchange student.
It was supposed to be like a one-year thing.
And somehow the craziest thing, it's like...
You got...
You met Willie Robertson.
Yes, I end up with match with the Robertson family, which I came from Taipei, which is a super big city.
And when I first saw that, match with the family.
In Louisiana, I've never even heard of Louisiana in my life before.
Like I've obviously know America, but we've only known like New York or California.
And so anyway, it's a crazy story how I end up being matched with the family.
And it's definitely a God's thing.
But then I came over here.
And, you know, I've never seen anyone.
Actually, I don't know if I've ever seen anyone with a big beer before in my life.
And I remember they telling me, like, you know, when I first got matched with the family,
they sent a little information of the family, which the paper they sent was very deceiving
because Willie didn't have a beer in that picture.
And it was like cling cut with like, you know.
Oh, they said the beach picture.
Yeah, it was like a beach picture.
It was in their backyard at the old house, you know.
And like on the little like.
Harris thing.
Yeah.
What's the call?
What year was this?
You came.
Like the little swing thing.
What did it was in call?
Like a swing?
No, but like.
Like a hammock.
A hammock.
A hammock.
Oh, okay.
A hammock.
There was like the hammock in the backyard.
Yeah.
And he was like a long hair, like longish hair, but no beer.
And, you know, all the kids, sweetest little kid.
And I've never seen actually this is, I don't think you should like run this.
Oh, no, we can edit it.
Don't worry.
We have a whole, we got like seven episodes.
I don't think I've ever seen a mixed race like person before.
Like, so when I called Will.
Okay.
I was like, oh my gosh, this is the cutest little thing ever, you know.
Like with the curly hair.
He's like a chubby little doll.
I love it.
He was like, he was like, he was too.
He was already on his way to chubby.
But I just was like, this is such a cool, interesting family.
Anyway, so when I got here.
You know what they need?
Somebody from Asia.
Yes.
That's the only thing they're missing is just, you know.
They just need one more continent on here, and we're good.
Oh, man.
So when I came, you know, Willie had beer then, but it still wasn't like super big,
but I was like shocked because I was like, you know.
He looked like a homeless.
So how, what age was you when?
I was 16.
16, okay.
Was it our sophomore year or a teenager?
Junior year.
Okay.
So I went straight into junior year.
And, but yeah.
So that was.
did a whole presentation.
Is it?
Yeah.
Do you not remember?
You had to get up and tell our whole class about how much harder homework was in Taiwan.
Oh, yeah.
Then it wasn't.
It was so funny because I went into school and, you know, obviously I couldn't speak English barely.
They told me she did.
Which I was very, like, I was like the top of my class in Taiwan.
It just, I mean, it's different, though.
Like, we learn British English, I think.
Is that what it was?
I think.
And it's the accent.
I couldn't understand.
I could never understand Mike Kelly as church.
Kellett?
He's a little nasly.
No, but like, I could not understand.
He got them nostrils, so I get it.
And any, like, church service, I could not understand him.
That's wow.
Yeah.
And, like, I have to, like, read the lips.
You were really?
But also, everyone has big beers, so I couldn't see their lips.
I feel like that was the one.
of the problems.
It really was.
I never thought about that.
Okay, we're only seven minutes in.
I got to tell you said this was your second podcast.
You're coming back.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
This is phenomenal.
Well, I just hope.
You may be our new fourth chair.
You're a regular.
So you move here.
I moved here.
You thought you knew English.
Yes.
You don't know English.
No, and I thought I was terrible at math.
Turns out I was like great at math.
That was part of the presentation.
We're all sitting there.
And she's like,
like, oh yeah, we do nine hours of math a day.
Yes.
I mean, I was like the best of the math class, and I went straight to like AP and do all the
thing.
And I was like, wow, this is crazy because I was terrible.
All of a sudden, these stories y'all said about McDonald's.
So I think that really is a stereotype.
Like, it's actually proving that right.
Like Asian people are like.
Just better at math.
Yes.
Like.
Well, of course, if you do it for nine hours a day, absolutely.
And we don't use calculator.
So you know what?
I'm about to head to the beach and I'm super excited about it.

Oh, are you a Taiwan or are you Chinese?
What?
Come goes that.
No, no.
No, no.
No, no, no, he don't understand the geography of it all.
Oh, no.
Here you go, I'll show you.
Yeah.
He's from Taiwan.
He needs a geography left.
He's from Taiwan, which is an island off China and Japan in between.
It used to be called the People's Republic of China.
Is that right?
Is that PROC?
Is that what it used to be called?
Yeah, well, they try to call it Republican of China.
But it really.
Like, that's what they wanted to call it.
I'm not trying to get bogged down.
I just feel like I remember that.
Well, now you've got to be really confused.
Here you go, Sao.
Look, here.
Here, here, I got a tattoo right here.
Look, look here.
You got a tattoo of all of Taiwan.
Look, big dog.
Here we go.
Right here.
So this is China.
This is Japan.
Where's Vietnam?
You've been there.
That's Vietnam.
Down there.
That's Taiwan.
That's Taiwan.
Yeah, that little sweet potato.
Oh, right here.
Oh, sweet potato.
We call it the sweet potato.
We call it the boot.
Right, right.
Okay.
But again, I'm still confused, okay.
Are you a Taiwan?
Taiwanese.
She's Taiwanese.
Taiwanese.
Taiwanese, yeah.
She's not Taiwan or can.
Okay, she's not either China or China or Ukraine.
I don't want to get political and like, no, we got a time limit.
That could really.
The Taiwanese.
Oh, look, I got that.
What was you thinking?
You're 16 years old and you're coming from Taiwan.
a spot in the ocean.
And this cat's your uncle.
No, no, to a man to the woman.
To the Robertson family and you run into this crazy idiot.
You have a funny story with me, Uncle Sy, when I first came.
And this cat sitting on his poor smoking cigarettes saying I'm your uncle.
Do you remember Uncle Sy?
Oh, I'm so excited.
Do you want to know our first encounter?
I don't know if you remember this.
No chance it does.
So when we were, you know, when I first moved here and we were at the old house down in
Cahoon by Chioca.
Oh, poker night.
And poker night.
That was Wednesday night.
Every Wednesday night, y'all will have boys poker night.
Uh-huh.
And I was there.
And one night you came in and I guess like you didn't get a memo that it was canceled,
whatever.
And you just was sitting in there in the kitchen on the table and just kind of like waiting
on everybody, but nobody was coming.
And it was just me and Sadie at the house.
I don't know why.
I can't remember what happened.
But we just start hearing somebody yelling and doing like all the shouts like,
oh, and like, oh, juggle, all the things.
And I was like, Sadie, what is that?
And she was like, I don't know.
And so we were like picking through like we're like trying to see.
And then we like saw you sitting there.
And I was like, Sadie, who is that?
And she was like, I don't know.
We should call 911.
I cannot believe Sadie.
She was like, I don't know who that is.
We need to call 911.
Said he was young.
And we were hiding in the room.
We were so scared.
Oh, crazy.
Because you were playing poker by yourself.
Oh, hey, I had seven hands dealt out.
I know.
You were like playing all by yourself talking to.
No, no, I had seven hands dealt out.
And I'd look at them and say, are you going to bet?
Are you going to fold?
What are you going to do with you?
Yeah.
You were yowling at air.
Like, you were scared.
Yeah, he did that a lot.
I was getting up out of every chair going around the whole table the whole time I was doing that.
Oh, my God.
Oh, yeah.
No, I remember the first time I met you and saw you.
When did you?
When did you?
You've always, you've always impressed me with what you wear, the clothes you wear.
Thank you.
You're kind of like a mother.
I don't know.
I feel like, I don't know.
John David can probably recall some of the fashion choice.
I had in high school.
When you first showed up, they were a little different than the rest of the
Christian school.
Uppity white kid Christian school that you were attending.
I do remember I brought the leggings.
She brought leggings.
Leggings in Louisiana.
Like, nobody was wearing a legion at a time.
And remember we have a dress coat, but I was able to kind of get away with a dress coat
because you can wear leggings and then you can wear like a skirt or something over it, you know.
But then Abercombe started carrying all the leggings, and then that's whenever, like, you know.
But I was the first, well, it was before Abercomby had leggings.
What was that stuff you used to make in the microwave that was like some kind of tea or something, had the little balls.
You always.
Boba.
Is that what that was?
Capierca.
That's now that, wait, that's cool now here.
Yeah, they're everywhere.
She was making it on Brownlee Road back in 2009.
Yes.
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
I was making like fry rice.
I remember cutting like hot dogs, like a little pigeon.
Watching her eat was one of my favorite things of poker night,
like once she showed up here,
because she made herself some bizarre snack.
Do y'all remember I gained 40 pounds the first year?
We were waiting a minute to bring that up.
That's actually.
I know that's why John Davis said.
I know there's a few stories you like to tell about my eating habits.
I'm just saying the filet of fish changed your life.
It did.
It did.
I mean, it changed a lot of people's lives, but I mean, I would just have to say, like,
coming here, like, I don't know if you all understand, like, McDonald's is like a, like,
a luxury in Asia.
Like, because it's, like, American and, like, people, you know, it's like, we go to
McDonald's after church.
It's, like, a cool thing.
And we have, like, the McDonald's there are super nice.
It's two-story.
you have like the playhouse and like this is the macdonald's in taiwan yes like i got to go to
taiwan it's like yeah no it's like super cool like you know and it has like the playground like the
actual really cool playground and like the toys are amazing like we used to collect all the toys and
they're all like oh good i thought you were going to say you built them um i can't say that just did
But so, you know, coming here, I was, you know, wow, there's McDonald's everywhere.
You pass four on the way to school.
Yeah.
And there's one right by school.
And we get to check out early on Friday or something for senior.
And she went straight to McDonald's every day.
The filet fish was your poison?
Yep, pailia fish.
Did you gain 40 pounds?
Yes, 40 pounds.
Well, you weighed 80?
I was little.
And I was short.
order too. So like, think about like, I mean, I wouldn't say I was huge, but I was like probably
five two at a time. And then I was like a hundred and forty pound. So that's like big for me.
Like what size shoe you wear?
What?
No, no.
That got a what from everybody.
Except for me. I said, uh-oh.
I wear six, like six, six and a half. So I do have small feet.
And it's a small six.
Yeah, like I have like small feet.
But, you know, I did gain a lot of weight after moving here.
And it's all the food.
And I'll eat like donuts, cinnamon toast.
Cinnamon toast crunch is good.
And like Corey used to make those like, you know, just like the toast,
actually toast.
And she'll make like a whole platter of it.
And then like that's what we eat for breakfast.
Yeah, Corey was really good at almost burning something.
That was her specialty.
Not to mention you moved in with the unhealthiest people in the world.
She's the only woman I know that burns water.
But hey, you know, but look where we are now.
I mean, everyone seems healthy now.
But, you know, but when I first moved here, we did not eat healthy.
So, hey, everyone seems healthy now.
That tends to happen as the income increases.
How many is in your family, Rebecca?
So in Taiwan, I came from family of four siblings.
So I was the youngest.
I was the baby in the family.
I have a brother, two sisters, and me.
And then boom, come to America and you're the oldest.
And I feel like John Reed always said this is like kind of a good thing because I'm glad I wasn't the baby just like my whole life because, you know, I had to learn a lot being the oldest and kind of learn, you know,
to kind of, you know, how to...
Take care of Willie's children.
Because he got a foreign exchange cousin and he said, perfect.
Well, you know, it's funny because, you know, it feels like I was,
but then I felt like I was coming in, even though I was older.
I felt like I was almost like a toddler coming in because everything was so new to me.
So like, it wasn't like they had to raise me over again.
Like I remember even with Sadie, she was in second grade.
when I first came.
And, you know, at night,
Corey will read books to us,
and I will, like,
read the same books with them.
Like, I mean, that's like,
like, I'm learning the same way how Sadie's learning.
And Bella taught me a bunch of words,
and she was two.
And, like, I remember,
I would say panties for underwear
because that's how I talk.
It's like, that's how I learn from, like, little kids, you know?
I still say panties.
Yeah, but, you know, just like stuff like,
Like, I kind of learned from the same way, you know, how, like,
kind of went back to a toddler again, or not taller, but, like, maybe like.
Interesting to think about it.
I mean, yeah, I would be.
I lived my life again because I didn't know.
I have to learn everything.
I didn't know anything.
I mean, you dropped me in the middle of Taipei, buddy, and I'm about to be,
I'm about to be a two-year-old.
I don't know how to get anywhere.
I don't know how to do anything.
You dropped me in the middle of Taipei.
I'm in trouble.

I got that going for me.
No, actually. Well, Willie went and he wasn't the biggest.
He wasn't the biggest man there?
Oh, okay.
All right, well, there you go.
Probably the hairiest.
Yeah.
Well, I'm getting very personal here.
Oh, boy.
But I...
Well, you started with her shoes size.
How much more personal we're going to get?
Because I'm really interested financially in Taiwan.
How was your family?
So, good.
I mean, like, we're regular, I guess, like, I would say middle to higher class.
Okay.
Like, there you're living in a city.
Well, I came from a city.
My dad actually was a doctor.
Okay.
But he passed away when I was little.
So like when I was 12.
So that was actually one of my decision to come as an exchange student.
So then my mom kind of had, you know, had to raise all her kids, you know.
But at the time I was 12 and my dad passed away, my siblings were older too, you know.
And so, you know, so she didn't have a lot.
Like, you know, my brother and sister were already, like, graduating college and all the thing, you know.
But they were, it's crazy, but they were in Australia.
So my family lived in a lot of different places.
Did you say Australia?
Mm-hmm.
My brother and sister both live in Australia.
Did you not know this about me?
When you think about that, that's so wild.
She came to America.
Your brother and sister was in Australia.
He's about to get crazy.
Did you talk trash to him after the soccer game?
I know I feel bad, but I don't watch.
Y'all are there.
I haven't seen it.
All are on it.
Adventurous.
America be Australia?
Yeah.
Okay.
Text them about it.
So your whole family is pretty adventurous.
Yes.
So everyone always asks like how my mom is okay with me being away and like being, you
know, so far away.
But growing up, that's like the norm.
Like we grew up like, like, I was born in America, in Oregon, Portland.
Portland, and my sister was born in Brazil, and my other sister and brother were born in Australia.
So we all were born different places and all held like different citizenship.
Oh, was that strategic?
It's not. It just happened. And that was one of the reasons why.
Well, I thought you said Asians were good at math. Your mom couldn't count to 10, like 10 months,
and this thing's coming? Well, because my dad's job,
You know, he was a doctor.
Oh, what kind of doctor was it?
Is that the reason you all travel?
Yes.
So we would move, yeah.
So he would go to different hospital and like training and do like surgery.
Yeah, now it makes sense.
Cardiologist or something like something important?
I mean, they're all important.
But when you're training people, that's your like cardiology.
Neurology.
Neurology.
Yeah, he was very smart.
Yeah.
smart and he came from China. He came from China. He rubbed off. So are you. Thank you. Thank you.
Well, we never like none of us turned out to be a doctor, which, you know, it's kind of disappointment for
Asian family. But hey, look, you're, you're doing all right, okay? I know. I don't know about your
brothers and sisters. They probably are doing art. We all went towards the art. Like,
why not? Artsy, party people. It's kind of crazy, but. That's probably going to be the best life.
I know like I was going to be a doctor or something, but...
You could have been.
Well, that leads us to our next segue.
She is a doctor.
A doctor.
Yep, thank you.
Thank you.
I mix up clothes and...
I will remember that line for the rest of my life.
What's that?
None of us were doctors.
That's kind of disappointing for an Asian family.
It is.
Holy cow, that was great.
None of us are doctors either, but we all knew it.
Oh, boy.
Oh, man.
Oh, that's funny.
What a lie.
So what do you do now? Tell everybody what you do now, Rebecca.
Well, so recently, I just...
You're doing a lot. You're hard to keep up with.
I feel like...
We're neighbors.
Yes.
And I have no idea what you're doing.
Which y'all still need to come.
I just invited Uncle's side to come.
I've been sending Brittany invitation to come to my store.
But right now our focus is we, me and my husband just finished developing this building downtown.
Mm-hmm.
And we, that's kind of a dream to just.
have like being in development and doing things.
And so we develop this,
renovate this like historical building downtown.
And now I have a store that it's inside of that building.
And we're hoping to kind of make,
leasing out different retail spaces and have like Airbnb kind of doing different
things.
But yeah.
Oh yeah.
That's a place I caught the Possible.
Yes.
Yes.
Yeah.
Y'all have been there.
But it's,
it looks so different now.
So,
but yeah,
that's kind of what we're doing.
Yeah.
Since it's been upgraded.
Yes.
I think you were...
My kids about self-destructed on that 99-degree photo shoot.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, I promise you, we do have AC now.
There's air conditioning.
There is a bathroom.
Oh, yeah.
And there's no possum.
And there's no dead animals anymore.
Yeah, we got rid of the possum.
No cross-eyed possum.
I don't know about regular possum, though.
A good possum makes it back on.
That cross-eye one was wild, wouldn't we?
I don't like that's possible.
Man, what a lot.
And then you sell your...
I saw my own line of clothes called Me and My, which is Mommy and Me, kind of matching.
Because your children are adorable.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And I feel like I've been kind of focusing on my kids for the past, you know.
My oldest is seven now.
And so that's kind of what, you know, I feel like the past few years we've been kind of...
We bought the building eight years ago.
And then things happen.
kids and COVID and all the thing.
So finally, now we're like back
at it. But
I used to have another store called Duck and Dressing
if y'all remember, which is featured
on the original Duck Dynasty.
Yes.
And, but we closed like right
around that time when we bought the new building.
So now this is like our
back and business kind of
development. Fun fact, I've packed
orders for Duck and Dressing.
Oh, you did.
Well, when it's all hands on deck
around here, man.
Like, I've shipped out duck and dressing over.
And then the warehouse, yeah.
Uh-huh.
I know.
Oh, yeah.
Fun.
I only know about duck and dressing bags.
They were the biggest deal in all of this town for a while.
If you shop there, you got a really good bag.
And it's a recycle, like, like, made out of recycling, like, water bottle.
Yeah.
We just got fancy bags at the honey hole.
And literally to this day, people are like, oh, it's kind of like that old duck and dressing bag.
Are you trying to, it's a dupe?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Trust me.
Mine or not is not.
Nice.
I do have really cool back again.
Oh, at the new store.
Yeah.
It's even cooler.
I think people.
She's in the bag.
In the bag game.
Some of the bags.
But then after we graduated high school, you went to LSU?
I did.
Can you believe it?
Even more.
Yeah.
You came here to Church of Christ School in North Louisiana and then you went to LSU.
I know.
People always think like it's like part.
I mean, I think it's like who you hang out with, you know.
And I was very much in like, you know, I was in fashion design.
So I got into all that.
So I stay in the studio all the time.
And so, you know, it's kind of like, you know, I don't really do much.
Like, I feel like I was kind of like just, you know, into like.
You're a hustler.
She stayed in the studio, ate her for lay a fish, might as your own business.
Never went to chimes.
Never.
I don't even know what that is.
I love chimes.
Chim is not even like,
Chim is right next, like.
Remember, I still haven't left West Monroe.
You've never been to Chimes?
I don't even know what we're talking about.
Like a wind chim?
It's a restaurant.
It's like very, uh.
A restaurant chimes?
Right outside of campus.
That's good.
They have like really good Bloody Mary on Sundays.
Ooh.
I went to U.L.M.
That's generally post-dust.
And they got a half-Mr.
And they have like good cheese fries or something.
Yeah.
You slide in there about 10 a.m. after a night in Death Valley and try to shake out off.
That's why I continue to gain way when I was in like down in Bat Rouge.
So is our food here just that much more unhealthy or do we just give you way more?
That's another thing I was going to say.
So it's the portion.
I think there's two things.
The portion.
And people don't walk.
Like in Asia, I'm just saying, okay, when you...
She just called us lazy, gang.
No, no, no, it's the...
No, she called us spread out.
So if you...
They're all tight.
If you go to cities or any kind of places,
you don't, like, you walk to a restaurant,
and then afterward you have to, like, walk back
or, like, take the subway or do things.
So you're standing up,
you're not just, like, sitting down.
So, like, you usually digest better.
But then, like, here, like, you just get back to eat
and get back to eat and get back to.
in the car and then get home so you don't walk. I think that's like the main reason.
I am so excited at the way I've been looking. You look good. Looking good.
Flatterbelly. I'm off that sugar medicine when I got that free diabetic. I didn't even remember
having this much energy. Oh. And knees don't, when I jump out of the truck, my knees don't hurt
no more. Look, most weight loss plans have one thing in common. They quit working eventually.
and you know what that means.
Yeah.
Weight comes right back.
But Ph.D. weight loss, it's different.
I'm like almost 40 pounds down.
I'm 21 weeks into it.
I am not going back.
I am not.
It is, they got recipes on the website, good recipes.
And they got suggestions for you when you go, like you go out to eat,
like what you can eat there.
It's way different than anything I've ever done.
Well, I've watched you and Paul in church with the kids.
Yeah.
I'm telling you.
You got a coach, you got to talk to a coach every week.
So that'll keep you honest talking to that coach every week.
We all know what worked for you before doesn't always work again
because your body fights weight loss every step of the way when it's under stress.
GOP 1 drugs can work as a quick fix,
but they don't always take care of what's causing the problem in the first place.
Ph.D. weight loss works with you to develop a plan that works with your body
and focuses on restoring your metabolism for good.
so your body stops fighting you.
The goal isn't to lose weight once,
it's to never have to start over again.
Right now, you can call Ph.D. Weight Loss and mention
Godwin!
And you'll get two weeks free in the program,
and they'll pay for your food.
That's a $1,500 value, completely free.
Call $864-644-1900 and say,
Gowan.
Again, that's 864-644-1-1900,
or visit my PhDwate-loss.com.
Go, Gowin.
One thing I was taught as kids,
we you have to finish like you know like my mom said this thing and I believed it as a kid and now
I think it's obviously it's like kind of like a old wife's towel but it says if you don't finish your
food and we're I'm Christian growing up so she said it like heaven so before you go to heaven
there's a huge door and all your leftover is going to be all in the pot and you have to finish it
before you can go to heaven.
Wow you got to go through fear.
factor to get to heaven. And so everything you don't finish, I'm going to step right in.
You were like, it's going to be there long.
Of just goo of everything you mix in and it's like rotten and you have to eat it. Oh. And so
it's not even, it doesn't even stay fresh in this mythical land. Of course not. It's like
however long you've. Of course not. You act like this is something I should know.
I was like, Hunter at that church camp all over again. It obviously doesn't taste good. It's,
it's rotten food. And so if you don't finish it. You know, they, that's why they tell kids. So
So if you don't finish your food in Taiwan to get to heaven, you have to eat everything.
So everyone, you always have finished all the food.
You can't leave the table unless you finish all the food.
A much more convincing way than saying don't waste your food.
We just tell it about the kids in Africa.
Yeah, you're starving.
Y'all are like, you're going to go to heaven.
And you moved to a country that said, here's a buffet.
Knock yourself out.
And it's, you know, I remember coming here and, you know, we used to go to Outback and all
this place and chilies and you know and those portion was so bit and I would try to eat it and
they would look at me and be like Cory would be like you don't have to finish all the food
but I'm like I didn't know I thought I had to finish so I would eat the whole thing well no wonder
you gained 40 pounds exactly yeah you thought you had to eat everything on the table yes did you
work it outback I did I thought I remembered that crime I said I'll buy bread oh I've been like bags of
at home. And you worked it Outback when the cheese fries were good too. Oh yes. Back in the gap.
And the blooming onions were good. They had like, yeah. The good old Outback time. That's what Outback
was like popping around here. Like, it was the plate. Oh, no. Yeah. Now you can go there any night
of the week. Yeah. Oh, no. It's not the same anymore. It's still a very long. You and Christina there.
Oh, you spent the white and life. Yeah. It's still a very long wait, but that's just because they don't have many people
That's how small this town is.
My foreign exchange cousin worked at Outback
and I immediately recalled everybody she worked with.
I was, oh, yeah.
I know, yeah.
Oh, that's so good.
Meanwhile, Allison was at the Red Lobster, just competed.
Did she work at Red Lobster?
Oh, yeah.
That's so funny.
I didn't know that.
I hate those biscuits.
You hate it?
Oh, once you, do you like going back to Outback?
Oh, we win recently.
It was bad, but.
See, it's not the same as it used to be.
Yeah.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah, that's great.
The filet fish, tartar or no tartar?
I do like the tartar, but I add barbecue sauce.
I always get a salad of barbecue sauce and dip it.
I've been telling this joke about you for 20 years.
This sandwich with barbecue sauce.
It's so good.
You have to try it.
No, I do not.
I think my product is a barbecue sauce too.
I have a pretty hard and fast rule on fish that if I don't catch it, I don't eat it.
A filet fish.
Yeah, that's definitely, I don't know.
Nobody caught that.
Yeah, no.
No, I don't know where he come from.
It's probably all my leftover.
That's mix into a patty.
When's the last time you had a filet of fish?
I should not that long ago.
I still eat it.
I mean.
Hold on.
I've literally been telling the joke about you.
Because, I mean, every day of our senior year.
Rebecca left school and I'd pass her because she'd be turning to McDonald's.
And I was like, man, that girl had a lay a fish.
Getting one in blue wrappers, man.
But I've been telling this joke for 20 years.
And it's true.
And you were dipping it in barbecue sauce?
Yes.
So you didn't know the detail.
Yeah, that's, you had it wrong.
Or I do like another thing is I'll dip in ketchup, but I put pepper on my ketchup.
I've seen folks do that.
I can't hate on that.
Yeah.
Like I, it feels like steak sauce.
Like, like.
making her own A1 at the McDonald's to put on the filet.
It's a very Asian thing to do.
I'm like.
Yeah, a very Asian deal to do.
This is make our own sauce.
Yeah.
It's math.
We'll call it 100 different things.
Oh, man.
That's so good.
Ollie.
So what's the delicacy in Taiwan?
I'm curious about that since we're on food.
Like if I go to Taiwan, what's the one thing I got to eat?
One thing is it would be fish.
It's on an island.
Obviously not because she's eating a fish.
Oh, stinky tofu.
Stinky tofu.
Tofu.
Stinky tofu.
Stinky tofu.
Yes.
It's like,
it's like a, what are those things called?
Like, not marinate, but like, they're rotten, but, uh.
Fermented?
Okay.
Tofu.
And then it has very weird, stinky smell, but it tastes really good.
Really?
It's kind of like kimchi, that kind of stuff, like fermented.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But it's like, it's got.
a certain smell, but it like...
Is that it?
It'd be like Italian pizza.
No, that one is like, whoa, some avocado.
It'd be like Italian pizza homemade.
It's like, stinky tofu and Taiwan.
It stinks for high heaven, but it is delicious.
That's it?
Yes.
It's fried.
It's so good.
Okay.
Are you sure?
I mean, John Reese tried it.
At first, he didn't like it, but he likes the fried version of it.
Okay.
But it smells so bad.
And like, you can smell from miles away.
Oh, yeah.
But then like, but it tastes good.
You know what I'm talking about?
It's like cheese.
Yeah, I dated to the Italian girl and she made me homemade pizza.
Uh-huh.
And when she brought out the cheese.
Yes, it's so strong.
Hey, this stunk.
You know, and I didn't think I'd be able to eat it, but it tasted.
But you're out.
Oh, no, no, it was great.
You know, have a great flavor.
But boy, did it stink.
Yeah.
Oh, Uncle's out.
I think we should do a trip for like, maybe we should do like a...
All the way to Taiwan?
Yeah.
Should we do a dark call room, like, trip?
Can y'all pay for it?
Yeah.
I think so, fail pay for it.
Hunter calls back and get us five tickets to Taiwan.
So Taiwan is a lot of like street food.
And so like Boba Tea is actually from Taiwan.
You know, it's more like the street kind of type of food.
We have a really good fried chicken and tons of just...
Really good fried chicken.
I mean, is it on a stick?
Is it on a stick?
Yeah, on the stick or a chicken naked or all different type and like,
it's like the world's biggest fair.
Yeah, it is literally like a.
Well, when you look up the town she is from,
it looks like New York City.
Yeah, so Taipei 101 was one of the tallest building in the world
for a long time until Dubai built the.
That's the city you're from, right?
Did you see that guy just climbed the Taipei 101, free climb?
That was your home?
I got a question.
Yeah.
So it says Taipei right there on the screen.
Mm-hmm.
Them two things under it.
Does that also say Taipei?
Yes.
That's him rendering.
Okay.
You can read that?
Does it the way we write it seem a lot easier?
It is, but...
Okay.
I was just curious.
It is.
There's no way I could draw that.
This is why I think Asian people are really good at math.
Math because we have to memorize so much.
It's not that we're good at math,
but we almost just memorize things.
Good memories.
Because you have to memorize how to write each characters.
How many characters are there?
All of them.
I don't know, like billion?
I don't know.
Oh, wow.
So you all ain't got an alphabet?
No.
So we do have alphabet,
but that's just to tell you how to say it,
but you don't write it.
So you can't write an alphabet.
So we have like a different layer.
Like there's like three layer before you can like get to writing.
Why do you think I just ask her if them two things meant what them seven things above it said?
No, I don't know that.
You can ask like.
But I would love to know how many Americans have something that they think tattooed on them that says one thing that actually says something else.
I saw this guy at J-Mart one time.
Well, that tracks.
Oh, J-Mart.
Yeah.
I didn't even tracks more.
I don't think he.
What did it say?
He didn't know what there had on.
It was, yeah, it was a bad word.
See?
That's what I'm talking about.
Like, how many people just went in there and said.
And I'm like, unless he really won the B-WR on his leg on his calf.
Buffet?
I'm just kidding.
We'll leave it at that.
Boba.
Boba, yeah.
Yeah, they've done it in a mile.
I mean, I'm just telling you, from my experience, like, none of the food here,
here are cooked by the authentic
like so like Yomi Japan is not Japanese people
they're all Chinese people and then
yes
Rebecca's just blowing the top off the whole
Asian cuisine culture of Wachitao Parish
because like I just
yeah like said yummy Japan
everyone's here thing is that oh because they're Asian
they must be you know to the untrained eye y'all all do
favor each other
okay John David
But it's like...
That's a Dave Chappelle joke.

friendly and talking to people and like, are you from this place? You know, and like he thinks he's like part
Asian now because he's, we're married.
Because he's seen one naked?
But I'm like, John Replace, I'll embarrass yourself because he's like, that tracks with him.
He'd be like, oh, man, yeah, yeah.
You're from Japan?
My wife's from Taiwan.
And that person's like, I'm Filipino.
Yes.
No.
What's wrong with you?
No, that's what happened?
Yeah, because I've met your husband many times.
Super friendly, going out there and just going for it.
Oh, yeah.
And be like, my kids, you know, my kids is part Asian.
you know, like, oh yeah.
That's him.
Oh, man.
Your kids have awesome hair, by the way.
All of them.
I'm trying to figure out what to do with Xander's hair.
Yeah.
They're so long.
Can we cut it?
I got the buzz.
I got the clippers on the front porch.
He's like in a little men bun right now.
Because I'm, he's got curly hair, which.
Buzz it.
No, because that.
$7 summer.
Because I, we don't normally have curly hair.
And so I don't.
Have you ever driven past my house?
while I'm buzzing, bends his head on the front porch,
and then you take a leaf blower,
done.
I'm more sentimental.
I still have, like,
I save all my kid's hair.
What?
Like,
he's seven.
You have all of his hair?
Well, not.
Well, I have his first cut.
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, first is fine.
Yeah.
Brittany's got there.
I thought you had like a whole scarecrow
in a closet somewhere of your kid's hair.
But Holland still haven't gotten a hair cut.
Well, Holland.
I got her bang cut when.
Tom, but, you know, but she's having got...
Holland was criminally underused on Duck Dynasty to Revival, because that's the funniest kid.
Oh, she...
And the whole wide of one.
And she looks, or she, and she still does, but, man, she looked like a real human baby doll.
They're like, like, like, perfectly round phase.
And she talks like one, too.
I mean, it's, it's great, but like...
We just had to do something this week, and, I mean, she just, she loves it.
She kills it, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, she was, she was falling, because, you know, the first episode.
episode when we did the, like, Willie had to babysit all the grandkids, and she was not, like,
she was just, like, so upset because she's very attached to me. But then she turned around
and threw the episode, and she, like, turned around, you know, and it was so cute. But we just
did a new thing this week, and she's, like, all about it and, like, running to hug him.
And he's like, that girl is a little, she can be a little actress.
A little ham.
It runs in the family.
I love it, man.
Yeah, we didn't really even talk about anything.
That's what's great.
I was planning on asking you.
All sorts of stuff, which just means you got to come down.
You came for a year.
Yes.
That I'm staying.
Two decades later.
Yes, and I'm still here.
You're still here.
I just love it.
I do, you know, I love the food and the culture and the people.
You know?
So in Taiwan was your name, Rebecca?
No.
She picked that on the way over.
No, no, no.
Actually, me and Corey just did a thing recently because she was sharing some of all the kids, a baby name, how she picked baby name.
And she obviously didn't share my, because she didn't pick my name.
I was about saying, you get to pick your foreign exchange student's name?
No.
So, but apparently people were super upset with her not talking about me.
And so she was like, we have to talk about it.
So we just had to do a thing because I was like, I can't believe people were like thinking.
Yeah.
Taking out for me.
But, you know, that was really nice.
But obviously she didn't pick my name.
But I was born here.
Remember?
We talked about this.
In Oregon.
Portland, Oregon.
Yeah.
So I actually was named Rebecca before I had an Asian name.
Okay.
Okay.
What?
I know.
So they're like, boom, Rebecca.
So do you have an Asian name?
In the world, Rebecca is from the Bible, Abraham's wife.
So that's what, like, my mom picked that name.
Okay.
Yeah.
But.
Interesting.
You know, so Rebecca was from the Bible, but then when I started going to school in Taiwan, that's whenever we came up with an Asian name, which is loo.
What?
Lo Yu.
Lohu.
Lohu.
Lois.
Lois is the famous.
Lohu.
Loa.
Loa.
La.
Y.
Y.
Y.
Y.
You.
And it's-
I'm sick, Rebecca.
Yeah, I know.
I know.
Everyone's like, that's way easier.
Yeah.
When I was little, my name, people used to laugh at me, or nickname me, naked woman, because
law you sound like, Lord knew, which is naked woman.
Well, that's cool.
At least you were picked on then.
When you moved in well, it wasn't that big of a shock.
Well, yeah.
John David, you should.
Oh, you know her?
She's a naked woman.
Rebecca Get Low.
Little John was a very popular song at the time.
Oh.
Because her name was Rebecca Lowe.
So I was like, what up, Rebecca Get Lowe?
Yeah.
That was her name for me.
She already got Lowe.
Yeah.
Who was it the most mature thing I've ever done?
You don't say.
Oh, man.
This is so good.
So was Lowe your real?
Family name, yeah.
So that would be your last name.
So you say your last name first in Asia.
Okay.
Yeah, I really got to get a little more culture on that.
Not that I plan on spending any lengthy amount of time there.
I thought y'all would love it.
I would love it for a week.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
I got to come home, though.
If you drop me off there for math class, I toast.
Well, you'd be really good at English.
I don't know.
I'm not sure.
Maybe.
I'm not sure with our vernacular.
Taiwan and make a A in English and that's it.
He does know that part.
Yeah, well, that's good.
Oh, yeah.
Did you have to take Spanish in high school?
No.
That would have been hilarious.
I wish, yeah.
I don't know why.
But just imagine if you didn't speak English
and you had to go to school in America and learn Spanish.
So what's the harder language to learn English or what did y'all speak?
What was y'all's?
Chinese.
Just Chinese?
Okay, Mandarin.
Yeah.
Much more difficult, Mandarin much more difficult.
Well, I would say speaking wise, English is harder to speak because there's more like
grammar rules and stuff like that.
But writing and reading, obviously I think Chinese way harder.
So speaking wise, I think.
Yeah, because there ain't no alphabet.
It's got all them symbols.
Yeah.
And so the way y'all speak and has a lot of different grammar that I'm still.
learning it. I feel like I'm still like
him,
she, like all that stuff.
Yeah, we stay away from pronouns
on this show.
No, I can't wait to see
what you pull out of that Bible unless Rebecca
has one. If Rebecca may have a verse
I'm ready. I'm locked and loaded on it.
We end with a Bible verse, Rebecca. Thanks for
letting us know you. No, I literally told
someone I would not, I cannot
go on a podcast and share good advice
and Bible verses.
I didn't know if like on your way out the door,
your mom was like,
here, take this and handed you a Bible with like something.
We just tell stories in here,
but I do have a Bible verse that kind of matches Rebecca's life.
Okay, I would love to hear.
You want to hear it?
Yeah.
Because it's been a weird road.
She showed up in West Monroe from Taiwan
and moved in with the Robertson family.
And I'm saying we only scratched the surface.
You're coming back.
This is going to be like a 10-part series here.
10-part series with Rebecca Lowe.
but something I'm assuming you've had to do a lot in life.
Proverbs 3, 5 through 6.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
And all your ways submit to him and he will make your path straight.
Yeah.
You've got a wild path, but it led you straight to being niece of office.
I'm sitting here looking at this young lady and I know that John Reed and your two kids.
That's all you got three of them.
Got another one, man.
And you're a three kids.
We can tell that story later.
Oh, and three kids have more fun.
Oh, they're the life of the party, aren't they?
No, no, I tell you, they have more fun than six barrels of monkeys.
Then what?
No, your kid.
They have more fun than six barrels of monkeys.
Yeah, he's saying your kids are like the life of the party.
That's right.
Their old monkeys was a popular children story back when we were at war with mom.
Oh, I know.
They're leader.
That's awesome.
Well, thank you, Rebecca.
And we'll see y'all next time right here in the Duck Call Room.
We appreciate you sharing your life with us, ladies.
Thank you.
