It was actually awesome. It was really, really cool. Yeah. We were at a student. life camp. So it was just like a bunch of churches come together for like beach camp pretty much. Yeah, yeah. And we led worship all week. Yeah. That was dumb. That's cool. We were expecting, Abby was expecting to go and lay out on the beach every single day after we led in the morning. But once we took a look at the beach, it was sad. It ain't those Gulf Coast beaches.

Y'all, y'all have been building this build, renovating this building for how long? Forever. What's the year? Actually how, how, can you remember? Can you remember?

Since you lasted a podcast. I can. I, uh, I bought the building in 2018. Okay. Okay. Um, I demolished it myself inside.

Did all the demolition myself in a year and a half during, after I bought it. Then it sat there for a while. And then I was super busy in the moving industry. Yeah, and I got to the building and started building it out, I guess. And then Rebecca's store is super funky and cool. Is that always the dream? It was like Harris store in there?

Like, did you have a different idea for it? Yeah, one space. Yeah, she always wanted another store. Yeah. So we did that and now it's going and it's pretty funky and cool. Y'all are in there the other day. Yeah, no, it's epic. It's pretty, isn't it?

It's awesome spot. It's cool. This has been like the ongoing thing that we thought would never actually happen. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Well, the thing is, like, I was so busy the past decade with moving, with that company, you know, building it and everything that maybe the last year and a half, I've really been able to be like full throttle and get everything. Yeah. Building it, scaling it, selling it, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Are you talking about the building?

No, it's amazing. Can like anyone go in your speakeasy or like, how does that? work. Yeah, well, the back's the whole other thing. I was like my office. I didn't anticipate that to be anything. And then people started poking their heads back in there. And they were like, this is like super cool. You need to do this. Or something needs to happen here. It's like, really it's just the bathrooms for me and Rebecca in my office upstairs. But it's super funky. It's cool. You know what I mean? You have like a code word to get in? Like if I came in your store and I don't know you like does. Um, not. He said if you wink at him,

he'll take you. It's like a password situation. Oh, okay. No, like, It's really cool. Honestly, it's cool because, like, I feel like you really get to see someone's personality through, like, a space, like, and how they express themselves. Me and Rebecca, you're seeing it. Like, yeah, you see your house and stuff, and, you know. But seeing that, like, I saw it with nothing. You walk in.

You feel like you're on a movie set. No, it is, yeah. Your dad, you said your dad's going to a lot. Oh, he's going to love it. He loves that. The bathroom's super cool. I was using it the other day, and I was just staring at all the pictures. The hells for you kind of the ducks.

Yeah, it's every square inch. Number one or two. Yeah. Number two definitely has a better view for sure. It does, it does. It's kind of PG and out, I guess, a little bit. But as for the back, I mean, yeah, I mean, I didn't really have a business plan for it, I guess. It's just more cool space.

Exactly. Like a creative space. But now it's turned into something completely different. So now, yes, I'm working on, I've made the menu for it. Oh, you're going to do a restaurant. Yeah, mocktail. No food yet. I don't want to deal with that.

So you got your liquor license to make mocktails? No, mocktails and cocktails. Okay. Which honestly, I didn't have to do that, but a few people, including like my father, they'd be smarter if you did that. Sure. So I did that.

Is that a hard process? I mean, I don't know. I have no clue. Just make the same drink. You have to like alcohol. $500 a year. I think he means to get the license. It's like $500 a year and you have to keep up with it every.

You have to go like to where you get your business license for a store? No. They have to say yes. or no in your parish and then you go to the state and then you pay the $500 and then you just keep up with it every day but then everybody that works there which i just had a meeting with a couple people that are going to work for me i hate saying working for me um we have we have to we have to all get i don't like that dude i'm not not like a boss type more like a he submissive it's more like a he submissed is a partner worker and colleague type yeah colleague leader kind of person

Submissive, man. But the thing is that you all have to have some kind of like thing, like, trained. Do you have to be trained? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like whatever it's called the L. You have to go through a train and get certified or something. Exactly, yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's what you just did a year. What have you, like, it's cool seeing how it, it hasn't changed, I mean, that much, but seeing just kind of how you've added new stuff, over the past like months too yeah yeah what do you feel like you've like learned over this like past year like starting it now you're a year into it i'd say like the biggest thing i've learned is like really running the staff like having a staff of people because like now which i don't know if people know this but i started working at duck commander like three months ago so now it's like

really hands off on like the day-to-day employee stuff so like learning how to you know give a plan and have other people execute it without not being there and like delegating the options and then working when no one's there. So like getting all the stuff to price and put in the store and like figuring out, you know, what's selling best and like going down that route because like online's totally different than in the store. So yeah, like a whole different clientele. Like people, if you, depending on where you're at in store, like people could have a way

broader, you know, view of vintage, like a lot more outlets, a lot more genres of things or they could have more narrow. And so I've just like learned like price points that sell better in store like what's selling better. Is it more T-shirts? Is it pants? Is it hats? Is it jackets?

Seasonal. And then also, like, same thing, decorating your space and, like, create, like, the feel that you want in a store, which is super fun. Because I like having a store. Obviously, if money doesn't, like, if it's profitable, it makes sense to have a store, great. If it doesn't, it does it. But since it has been, you know, successful, in a sense, it's fun to just express myself

in that way and, like, create a store with, like, my kind of stuff. Because I would say, like, if you go in Rebecca store, it's really cool and it's awesome. But I wouldn't say necessarily, like, that's my style at all. But it's cool to, like, get to express in that way and, like, make people feel a certain way coming in your store and, like, having a style that people can either like or appreciate or just, like, see your creativity through your brain kind of situation. It's freaking 100. degrees outside. Yeah. It's liberating, not having your armpits and everything covered and stuff. Honestly. You'll wear that in the winter. With a jacket over it. Yeah.

and now I'm doing it for myself so whenever I would go start these things like these little bars or these like restaurants and stuff, but we'd go in and it's like trend setting is what it is. At that point, teens or 20s, I don't have any money. So you're going with these people with a lot of money that have maybe a vision, but they don't. And they get people that are younger, like a group of got people to make it look cool. So you'll set the trend, as they say, but they're the money people. Sure.

So later on, fast forward two decades later, it's always in the back of my head. I was like, dude, I want to do something cool like I used to do for people. You get to the point. You're like, I'm the money guy. Yeah. Now I got the money. I don't know about that. But I do have still the thought of it.

And I was like, man, I just want to make it cool. So I made it cool in my office. Right. And then people started coming in and they're like, dude, can you please open this? So that's, I didn't want to make a business plan. So there's no business plan, but it'll eventually be a business planning. It's kind of like this is like a work of love. And then it kind of turned into like people holds.

I'm saying like you did it for yourself and then you made it for yourself no matter if someone appreciated it or not and people saw it and it's cool like they have appreciation in the same that they work with you and now. You know the podcast how I built this? I would love to be on how I built this.

I could do one. It's a 10 year time lapse and just well that the back office though took me two and a half years. Jeez. Yeah.

No, so the knife was, I wanted to do something to kind of honor King David and how much impact his life's had on me the last year. And I wanted to do something tying in Honey's name to it. So one of the handles, it's called Sandstone and it has more of like a honey-looking color to it. Oh, that's cool. That's sweet. Paying tribute to Honey, too.

So have you talked about on the other podcast? No, I haven't. About the impact of King David on a recently? Sort of kind of. Give us the short of the long. The short of the long is, I think there's something about David's life for me that that saw how David handled suffering. And I think there's something about David's life to where he's the only king that God ever chose.

And yet he's suffered more than almost anyone in the Bible. You're talking about both, I'm just breaking this down. Well, just his whole life. I mean, his father-in-law tried to kill him for 13 years as he's running in the wilderness. Didn't God? I guess Samuel, but God chose Saul, right? Yes, but then they, it's a, but then they also like cast lots. And but God, like, you know, obviously told Samuel, you know, I've found another.

And just the idea about David being a man after God's own heart. Right. Then if you look at the New Testament when Paul is writing, he's, you know, God says, here's, here's David who will do, you know, all that I ask. of him and at that time of his life David's a teenager in the wilderness, you know, shepherding sheep. And I think there's something about David's life. And there's also through the TV show, the House of David, I think that created something of, I've never had someone in the Bible that I've thought about more like theoretically than David. Like the idea of David getting up in the morning and bringing bread and cheese to his brothers on the battlefield.

And the idea of, like, as he's leaving his house to go bring cheese to his brothers, he's going to go fight a giant and become the most famous person in Israel in one moment in time. But then he can't relate to anybody about what he's going through because he's anointed king. But yet, he's the most famous person as a teenager. There's so much complexity to his life. And then he's playing music for Saul in the temple. and Saul's probably venting to him about Samuel anointing someone else. And then Saul tries to kill him,

but then David's still faithful to God and he doesn't kill Saul when he has multiple opportunities to. So I think there's so much complexity to his life that I just, I'm still trying to kind of unpack of like how, like his whole character arc to me is just so fascinating. But something about the way he handled suffering and then if you read the Psalms

and just the fearlessness he had, I think it's something that I've wanted to clean to this last year of going through a lot of traumatic things with my family. It's like, how did David handle the suffering? And how, I mean, in Psalms 3, he says, you know, though 10,000 surround me, I won't be afraid. And just that idea of he was such a warrior bit, he was so poet and musical, you know, musical.

So he had such a sensitivity to him. But he also would go kill 200 Philistines and take their foreskins for Saul. So, like, he's such a, like, it's just so, it's so complex to me. just that idea about how fearless he was in certain situations to me, which really stood out. Yeah.

But the beginning of his life about stepping into fame, being faithful about what God's called him to do, not taking matters into his own hands, having discernment, but also like just how fearless he was to me. Because wasn't David born, like all of his brothers, they didn't have the same mom? Yeah, Jesse. People debate that, yeah. Okay. I think that's part of his story about why that happened.

Another thing I wanted to say based off of that, that's great that had an impact on you like that, is that we went to the K-Love Wars, Sadie, you know, did the host of that. The thing I watched the King of David, did y'all watch that TV show? Have you watched it at all? I haven't watched it at all. Oh, it's House of David. Have you watched it at all? I've always seen the first season.

Okay, so it's good. I've heard that it's a cartoon. No, no, no, it's a real deal. It's like, it's live action. It's kind of like the same chosen, Bob. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the same. It's from the same people. I said it to say, I guess you all haven't seen it. But who, if you have seen it, David in the TV show, I binge-watched it in like four days. But he sings in the deal and it's like, it's fire. It's so good. And I was like, I asked Bella. No, he does do it.

The actor did a little bit like, like Caleb night. That's what I was saying. He sang at Caleb. And I was like, dude, he's got it. Like, it's really him. And I thought that was super cool. It's like very beautiful music. That's why the show's so cool because it's like the, it'll be David in battle like defeating all these people. And then the scene transitions to like him on top of the temple like worshiping. And like people in the city are like listening to him worship. He's like playing a little harp.

It's just just this. That's what I'm saying. It's just the complexity of like how he's so fearless in battle can do all these things. But then he's also so emotionally. Emotionally. Yeah, if you haven't seen the Chosen. All I'm saying is modern film, so like it's very high quality shot. And it's like, it just gives you like a first person point of view of like what it was like back then. You know, I just like, you can like see yourself there.

It's like the Bible, but shot like the Revenant, the movie like that. I mean, what are these movie references? Other than Passion of Christ, what are we talking about here? I'm just, I'm saying, like, Hacksaw Ridge. I mean, it's like, you're saying like the way, you're talking about the visual. I'm being artistic right now.

So the visual of the movie is like, you know, the revenue is like, you know, the revenue's like kind of dark and like the way it's shot. Yeah. It's dark. But the Bible, like, it's like a, I mean, like a period piece. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm just saying like the film.

It's like high quality shot. It looks like they're in, you know, Israel, all the different types. Yeah, they film it in Greece. Like, it's super cool. But the show does not shy away from like some of the. the demonic stuff that happened. I mean, like, if, like, what's the king? Yeah, King Hague. The king that Saul did not slay, which is why he ended up getting the kingdom removed from him. They like hardcore, like, it's like a tough scene to watch. They don't

shot away from like how tormenting the spirit was that Saul had after he was disobedient. But it's, it's insane. Even if you weren't like religious of any sort, I think you could really, like, think it was a really good. Well, yeah, King David's like, like, Like, people would do the same thing with the chosen, too. Yeah. People who aren't Christians or any part of any religion would say, like, this is a... It's intriguing. It's a great show.

It's great. Who would you guess the five most famous people to ever live are? Like names. Jesus. Yeah, Alexander the Great. No. Gangus Khan. What?

King Caesar. What? Gangis Khan. So it's Jesus, Muhammad. Oh. And then it's Buddha, Moses, and King David. Oh, that's crazy. Is that a fact?

That's a fact. If you look it up. That's crazy. Yeah. Well, long way. He's like seven. Because in Genghis Khan. Gangas Khan's in there somewhere.

They're all top ten. How about that? Top ten. Yeah, there you go. But that's the thing about King David. It's like the Goliath moment for his life is what made him. I mean, obviously, I don't know if, would you think King David would be as famous as he was as he is today if he'd, didn't kill Goliath?

No. You think that's the central, I mean, that's like his big story. Yeah. That's why he's the turning point of his whole life. That's what's so fascinating. It's like, here's this teenager

bringing his brother's cheese and bread. He killed a giant. No one wants to fight him. No one wants to fight him. They're turning away. 40 days and 40 nights. They're all terrified. He shows up.

And there's a verse in 1st, in 1st, Amos 17. It says, and David heard him. And I think, I just think that's so cool. It's like, the Israelites heard the same how old is he there too like they say like people debate like 17 like 17 these are all like other people are like warriors that have killed people do you all do you all watch the there's a dude on instagram I'm on Instagram uh-oh he does that this is for his PC time watch that dude I've seen yeah dude the sling guy that's what yeah that's what David killed the job was it's like you can't fathom that but whenever you see somebody actually do it in real time how accurate they are that dude can hit somebody's head off the their shoulders at like 50 or 60 yards. It's crazy. Yeah, well, that's the thing too. It's like God was preparing David in the wilderness to face Goliath. Because it's like if David would have

neglected the time in the wilderness with the sheep, he would have never been able to face Goliath when he got there. So I think that's the whole lesson. It's like, what is God teaching you in the private moments that when you does elevate you, like what can you step into? Because if you, if you're just looking for a platform, but yet you're not cultivating the private moments, then you're not going to be ready for any sort of elevation, which is why I think David is. It's so cool. What's cool, you know how much, like he was practicing so much out there. I bet you.

Well, it's just like protecting the sheep. You just think about that. And like being by yourself in the wilderness, it's just him and the sheep, no telling what's out there. So it's like, those are small moments. Like your whole life is to protect, you know, a flop. He killed a lion and a bear. Yeah.

I have a thought. I have a thought. This would be a good thing. It kind of goes with the verse. So last night, we have, we've got middle schoolers at camp this week. So I've got like, there's like 85 middle school boys. Okay. There's girls too. But I just held all the guys in because they were all being crazy, like disruptive messing with each other, like not listening, like all the stuff. And so I gave him a talk and I said, okay, We're going to talk about something tonight. We're going to talk about what does it mean to be a man? And I said, does anyone have any thoughts on it?

And this kid just yells out, beer and shotguns. And I was like, one bold of you at a church camp. And everyone, like, started laughing and whatever. And someone was like, Texas, trucks. And you know, they started like yelling all the stuff. And I was like, okay, everyone like take a step back. I said, what, everything you're saying is like external outward things. Yeah.

In manhood. And that has nothing to do with it. The single thing that separates a boy from man, the thing that you've got to realize right now as 12-year-olds and that you need to start developing in your life, the thing that's going to carry you all the way to the end is self-control. You can control yourself You can The world will be unlocked for you You'll be above your peers So I was talking about that and I was like

And it's hard We're all learning it And you can't do it by yourself It's got to take accountability So it's all gonna like You gotta hold each other accountable You gotta be men with each other You gotta help each other

Like control and that starts with two things The first one is controlling your mouth So when I'm talking or someone's up here talking, you don't talk. And second is controlling your body. And we're going to practice that by when we go to our snacks in just a minute, everyone's going to walk to snacks instead of just run full speed like they normally do. And they got it. They actually did it.

And that's good. Based off that, I literally was listening to a podcast another day. And it's a guy, just a financial guy. And just like, it's just what the podcast is about. But he says, the podcast was titled a few short stories. And, like, he said something that's pretty much based off the same thing. And so he brought up two things like uology, I think, eology virtues and then, like, resume virtues. And, like, essentially, I think what he's saying is, like, resume virtues is, like, house, nice car, you know, all these different things.

Like you're saying, like, outward stuff. And then, like, uology virtues, I want to say, I mean, you can change it. But it's like, you know, being a good father, like, you know, same things when you're saying, peace, patience, kindness, you know. your relationship with the Lord and like those things. And it said a lot of people want uology virtues, but put all their effort into resume virtues. So like we can say as men, like we want all these things,

but the things like we care about or like we'll talk about is like all the effort we'll put towards is like what we have like things instead of like internally. And I thought that was so true. Like even for myself, it's like sometimes like I say I want all these things. Like you're saying like, what it means to be a man self-control i might say that but then it's like i'll actually sometimes

feel more rooted in like the things that i have like that's what is going to give me that instead but you know deep down i just thought that was good yeah that's good yeah when you're talking about about you know about manhood and masculinity and what makes a man even even like seek peace and pursue it you know i think so much has to be rooted in humility and like you talk about with self-control it's like to achieve self-control, whether it's, you know, mentally, spiritually, physically, like you have to have humility to get there. And I think, I think in our culture, especially with masculinity, you men never admit they're wrong, never say they're struggling, never have humility to actually take ownership for things. And I think when you truly, well, when you do

surrender your life to Christ, when you do, you know, have the Holy Spirit and dwell within you, you, you do embody humility. And out of humility, you see the self-control. You see seek peace and pursue it. Because often, I mean, it's saying seek peace and pursue it because there's probably a situation where you need to be the bigger person to actually pursue the peace. There's even a verse where Paul says, as much as it does, as much as it has to do with you. Gosh, what's the verse?

we're just talking about peace. Yeah, as much as it has to do with you, live at peace with... Yeah, live at peace with everyone around you. And just that idea of you achieve that through humility. So whether it's seek peace and pursue it, living out self-control, as a man, I think it starts with humility and all of the other things will come into place from there. Yeah. And that's the thing is that in the end of the day, like, you also have to have God, like working

your life. And that's like that where that humility comes from of like every time you make a mistake, mistake not to spiral into that and get worse, but say, God, forgive me, forgive yourself, apologize those around you and then start over, which is, which I think what the good news of Christ is, is that we, he allowed, he died for sin so that we can repent and change. And God's well is undriable. We'll all run, like ourselves willpower. Like it doesn't last. Like, it doesn't matter how strong you are. Like, how strong you think you are.
