Starting point is 00:00:01 sigh's too excited to let us even get to an intro or put a microphone on look at that look in his eyes he's got them wide eyes oh I'm ready right now we ready you turned 77 yesterday I turned 77 yesterday I've tried I've tried what you're doing right now for two years what's it yeah Tunes yeah I had my own band one out on a row yeah yeah okay guess what the name of them was you'll never guess uh the swamper's uncle sighing it's psychotics. Psychotics. Yeah, because it was all nuts.
Starting point is 00:00:38 That's perfect. That's a great day. You probably know that one of the ladies that was in my band, Bridget Tatum, he wrote, Jason's Aldeen number one hit. Get out of town. Yeah. She from here? Nope, Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:00:53 All right. Cool. Well, Johnny Dee, you want to introduce our guest. Speaking of country. You want to introduce our guest. Me and Hunter talked about American Idol a few weeks ago. and how I was sitting there watching American Idol with my wife's, and the words Monroe, Louisiana flashes across the screen,
Starting point is 00:01:12 and then they did the whole Bayou thing. And then this girl comes up, she's like, yeah, from Monroe, except she's more, I'm not going to do an impression because her voice is better than mine. And it was Clara, and I was like, I'm going to shoot the shot here. And Instagram said, hey, you want to be on size podcast? Fast forward four weeks. Hell yeah, absolutely. Here's the deal.
Starting point is 00:01:32 How long have you been doing it? I have been singing and performing in choir and church pretty much my whole life. But I just started getting paid about six, seven years ago, gigging around town. That's always a good time. How old are you? A party and a half. I am 23 years old. 23.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Hey, would that make sense? She needed a job at 16, man. I would have said 16. So, hey. Oh, I'm sure. Oh, shucks. Oh, stop it. Oh, charmer.
Starting point is 00:02:03 You're America's favorite uncle. You ain't got to do stuff like that anymore, man. Oh, yeah, I do. Your work precedes you, man. No, no, I can't help myself. That's funny. Oh, but. But we kept up with you on American Idol.
Starting point is 00:02:16 We're rooting for you. Well, thank you. You came in, what, 25th? Something like that, yeah. A little higher up, but yeah. A little higher up, okay. And with that said, I know I'm just raring to go, and I know the people that listen to this podcast want to hear you sing.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Oh. We're going to let her. Hey, this is timeout. Like, don't open. Hey, look, I told you I'm fired up. Don't open you. Don't open your presents before Christmas, son. It'll be all right.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Birthday was yesterday. Why change now? Always hell. Yeah. Well, actually, we just brought her into saying happy birthday to you. So I don't really know. I mean, that was the whole thing. Isn't that nice?
Starting point is 00:02:56 Hey, in the usual term, we've talked before, that's her little heart. Oh, bless your heart. That's your little heart. But, but, so now we all have a mutual friend. You know we're friends with Luke Bryan? Oh, yeah, yeah. I think I heard something about that. He technically might own part of this building.
Starting point is 00:03:14 I'm really not sure how it works. He doesn't own part of the building, but he owns part of the game. He owns part of one of the companies that operates out of the game. Yeah. He's a very silent owner, which is the way you want him. He's not silent on that TV show she was on. Or Instagram or just in life in general, really. What was it like standing in front of Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan and saying,
Starting point is 00:03:38 I'm about to sing for these three people and then they're going to judge me because that's terrifying to me. It's not very biblical either. Yeah. I know American Idol. Church works having a good old time with that. Oh, I didn't even go with the idol part. I was just talking about the judging. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:03:55 The judging. No judging, Luke. No judging. How was that, though? It's crazy. It's crazy. Like going into it, I was super confident and excited. And, you know, you do all of these interviews prior to actually getting the audition. And they're filming you and they want you to say, oh, I'm so nervous. I just can't stand it. But I was just beaming with excitement. I was super pumped to be on there. I'd worked forever for it. And to get there was a huge opportunity. And then I like go through the doors after talking to Ryan Seacrest. And I see like. I forgot about him. He'd make me nervous, too. Dude, he, and he talks so fast.
Starting point is 00:04:34 He talks so fast. And I try to, like, match his energy. And then we're just, like, talking over each other. They cut that completely out because they're like, they can't hear that. We're just so much. This little girl won't shut up because I talk over him the whole time. But once I got into the actual audition, my knees were shaking a good bit. And I could feel my stomach and my chest and my throat was dry.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And, you know, you're like, ooh. And now you've got to sing for them. I did. I did. Yes, sir. Well, we'll talk after this. So if you end up there again, I got some stories on Luke that probably, you know, we can't share here. Yeah, we're not going to share here.
Starting point is 00:05:07 All right. We can hold over his hand. But you can hold over his head. Yeah. We can swap some Luke Bryan stories because, man, I've got some. Ooh. Yeah. I'm here.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Yeah, I'm sorry. Nope, can't tell that story anyway. That's what I'm talking about. And there's a lot more than that one. I've been duck hunting with a boy. So, like, it's, he's, he loves duck hunting too. Those are some more stories. I just recorded with his old bass player.
Starting point is 00:05:32 James Cook. Jimmy. Yeah. Also a local boy. He's a Monroe guy. Monroe's on the map. Dude, Munro is a cool spot.
Starting point is 00:05:41 More than it's ever been. Yeah. We got American Idol. We got a guy that was just drafted to the Patriots. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Fire. I had this TV show one time, but it was trash.
Starting point is 00:05:51 We got a minor league hockey team again. We got minor league hockey. I'm here forever, y'all. We got a paper meal. Man, you could see. smell it from here. It's right. Unrelieved.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Yeah, you walk outside, you can see it. Monroe's cool. Monroe's a cool spot to be from. That's what I had to ask her because she kept saying she's from Monroe. I'm like, well, you don't talk like you from Monroe. Then she fast up that she got some South Central Arkansas ties. I said, okay, that checks out. Oh, I thought you were from Rabel.
Starting point is 00:06:20 I live in Rabel now, but originally I grew up at Monroe and my mom's from South Arkansas. Yeah, that's where the dialect comes from. That's where the dialect comes from. Yeah, she's... Each stanza. Yeah, she's got some... That shared in Ford Ice area run deep in my veins.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Yeah, that's where Bear Bryant come from, though. That's the big sign he passed driving up to Little Rock from here. Home of Coach Bear Bryant. Right, if that's Ford Ice, I think. I don't know that. I drove real fast.
Starting point is 00:06:49 You ain't ever looked at that sign? It's many times you've been through there. I just like, I'm so dependent on modern day technology. The signs... Well, females aren't known for. situational awareness. So I'll give you that. Where is this sign about Bear Bryant?
Starting point is 00:07:04 It's right there on 167, whenever you're heading up to Little Rock from here. You get it, I think it's Ford Ice is where it's at. And you get to Ford Ice and you go on over that little deal, right there before you go over that deal to get to the red light to turn and go towards Sheridan. There's a billboard there. She says, home of Bear Bryant, Paul Bear Bryant. I'll say, as many times. Roll tie, baby.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Right there in the middle of it. Yeah. Come, you, y'all got to start paying it. Well, you sleep. You sleep, you ain't ever driving. I ain't worried about you. I ain't looking at the signs. Huh?
Starting point is 00:07:36 Why not? I'm probably like playing road games, so I'm not paying attention to what the sign says. I'm just looking for a certain letter. Oh, there you. That's it. My phone gets me there. I'm very directionally challenged.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I was distracted driving before it was cool. I look at all that inside. A billboarder, get me. I'm looking at all that stuff. Like, how does you know where Buckees is, man? That's the biggest sign on the road, though. What I'm talking about, you see a bucket sign. It is.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Yeah. I'm always, when I go to Arkansas, I'm always looking for ducks and geese in the fields. Oh, yeah, but you go out through the Delta. You don't go through the Piney Wood. You take the slow road out through the Delta. Yeah, I'm looking for the good stuff. Yeah, I'm looking for the... Are you an outdoors woman?
Starting point is 00:08:15 I am, yes, sir. Yes, sir. I grew up hunting and fishing like everybody else around here. One day there's going to be a sign that says Monroe home of Claire Ray. I'm calling. Oh, Ravel. Rayville's on snatchero. Yeah, what city are claiming?
Starting point is 00:08:27 Yeah. I'm from Monroe. Born and raised. That's home. Monroe or West Monroe. I'm from Monroe. I'm from Monroe. North Monroe.
Starting point is 00:08:36 North. It gets worse. Oh, I fix that she lives on the bad side of town. That's what he's like. I felt like I should clarify. Oh, yeah. It is funny how we all like, if you're from Monroe or West Monroe, I believe there's a river between us, as I eloquently pointed out.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Not a rift. Not a rift. But a river. But we're always against each other until. somebody does something cool then we're back to one time. We're all friends and family again. That's right. A couple months ago I'm like she's from Monroe, boo, but now
Starting point is 00:09:06 like hey, she's been doing some things. Well, that just means you've spent a lot of your life on 165 then, haven't you? Oh yes sir. God bless you. I hate that road. Worst road in America. I hate Highway 165 going to Monroe. All right, look
Starting point is 00:09:25 springtime is here. It's warming up. You know what that means? That means more outside cooking and y'all know. We love to eat beef around here. And that's what because of our friends over at Triedells beef makes such a good product, baby. Ain't it good? It's so good. Our friend, Sall Robertson would say, buy on the grill!
Starting point is 00:09:44 Look, before we got Triedells, getting ready for a cookout, man, somebody had to run the grocery store, do all the things, grab whatever was left in case you were late in the day. And you never really know where that beef comes from. But with Triedales beef, we skip the grocery store and do it a different way. Triedales comes from a family ranch out in the day. Texas. They're a fifth generation American ranch, so they've been at it for a while. Now, look, the beef comes straight from their ranch and other ranchers they work with who raise cattle the same way. Their steaks are properly aged and shipped straight from the ranch to your door.
Starting point is 00:10:16 We threw a couple of ribbys on the grill. Look, salt, pepper, garlic, hot fire, that's all you need. Look, because I'll tell you what, when the beef comes from people who raise cattle for a living, you can taste the difference. The tenderness and the flavor are fantastic. So if you're stocking the freezer for grilling season. Go check out Tritails Beef. I know in size case, Christine loves it, which is just a, she doesn't eat meat. She isn't a big meat easier, folks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Just go to trybeef.com slash. That's trybeef.com slash support ranch families and eat some dang good steak. Are you a road warrior now, though? A road warrior. You're out there playing every weekend all over the country, huh? I'm hustling. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:10:59 We were in. I like it. Good. Nashville, Mussel Shoals, and Memphis all last week. Really? Just playing music, yep, recording a new album and writing some. That's cool. It's cool. Road Warrior, I had to get up at like 3 a.m. almost every morning,
Starting point is 00:11:15 and we drive and drive and going back and forth just about everywhere. Is that how you did it, Zai, back when you were touring America at the State Parish? No. He was at the local honky ton. He was sleeping, but they were driving. They were driving. I was where the honky tonk angels are. Yeah, see.
Starting point is 00:11:34 That's awesome. Yeah. But I will say, Memphis, Nashville muscles, shows. That fits our show. You are size people. All right, cool. You guys are my people. Yeah, that's what I'm talking.
Starting point is 00:11:47 We're going to talk about a duck commander logo on your sleeve or something. He's starting out right. We'll figure it out. Hold on. She's starting right? He's starting out right. She's young. Oh.
Starting point is 00:12:01 It's a young person's game. How old were you when you started in the music? Okay. How old were you? That's the reason my record label didn't do nothing for me. What was it? AARP? Oh, I ain't don't worry about it.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Navy federal. I ain't even going to mention it. They were too big. You just, you can't know them. They're a real secret. In days and such. It's like, come see Uncle Si. I brought you by it in sure.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Hey, no, no. You got to love what she's doing. Oh, I love it. perspective. And I know one thing, I can't do it. So I tried to play the piano once. I bought one on Amazon. I said, I'm learning this thing. And after a month of every night, I could play 10 seconds of Jurassic Park with my left hand. That's all you needed to know. You're ready for a three-hour set. But once I put my right hand up there, it did not work anymore. I don't know how to do it. So musically, you're left-handed?
Starting point is 00:12:57 Just don't think I'm involved. I grew up church Christ, son. There you go. You know how to stone. He's not musical. I know the words. But everything else happened and I'm out. Well, I know you ain't got no rhythm.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I always said, okay, that it's a- hating on you, John. Playing this is a God-given gift. Oh, I agree. My mom can play the piano like nobody's business, but can't read a lick of music. She plays all by here. That's why I said,
Starting point is 00:13:26 that's why I said it's God's gift. Because I've met people, okay, that can't read music, don't know what a note is, whatever, and they can listen to the longest song there is, okay, eight, ten minutes, pick up a guitar, and play it lick for lick. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I don't have it. People don't realize when a person walks out the front man or the star that walks out and starts singing and playing,
Starting point is 00:13:56 they have no idea what's all going through that man. or ladies mine. Okay. Okay, because there's more going on. What used to go through your? Oh, hey. Oh, let's. No, hey.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I literally have to tell myself, do not look at the women in the crowd. Oh, so you're the exact opposite to all that stuff when people get nervous. Oh, no. Oh, no. I had to tell myself because, hey, one night walked out on stage
Starting point is 00:14:21 and this gorgeous woman locked eyes with me. She red-headed, wouldn't she? Yeah. Yeah. The band starts playing. I'm supposed to be singing. And all I could say was, it's that woman's fault right there. You said that on stage?
Starting point is 00:14:39 I did it. Yes, sir. You got to let the people know what's going on. I said, because me and her lock eyes and I said, boys, I said, that's that. What is my name? Oh, my Lord. Yeah. I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I could lock up. That's funny. I've never seen that side. We're in here right now. Yeah. Hold on. Hey. Yo, you got.
Starting point is 00:14:57 You know, you got to know when the band's going to play, when they're coming in to sing, you know, then when to change and all, you know. So, but it's God-given talent, and then it's got to be working your butt off, right? Well, true. Oh, yeah. Hustling. Well, see, that's what she's fixing to do. That's what she is doing it.
Starting point is 00:15:14 She started doing that six years ago. She's already said the words about, oh, I'll get up 3 a.m. Yeah. Okay, sometimes you don't even quit until after 3 a.m. That's like duck hunting. On days. Yeah. It's like duck hunting.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Yeah. So when you're in the groove and it's going right, hey, you just keep on going. It's easy. That's right. It's fine. It's one that ain't going right that it gets hard. That's right. And then it happens, you know.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Yeah. Oh, it happens. I like the way Bridget described it. When a person walks on stage, you've got a 50-yard square that you can either, you're the king of it or you're a washed-up bomb. Oh, yeah. You either walk on it and take control of it and it's yours and no one can take it away from it or you suck. You're fine. No in between.
Starting point is 00:16:10 No, no, it ain't no in between. I've had that happen to me about four times when I was out on the road. What? I walked out and I took over. And hey, I'm telling you, I took over and if I ever was Pritchley walked on stage, they would booed him off of it. that's when you know it's right everything is right boy you've never struggled with confidence hey right or no because i'm i'm three-quarter ham he's three-quarter ham three-quarter what i'm three-quarter ham give me a microphone and somebody to scream hey i can tell you what the other i'll be your huckleberry
Starting point is 00:16:47 oh man so claire how much of your talent would you say did you just wake up one day and just start singing and everybody's like, oh, yeah, she's better at this than everybody else. I was born with a very deep, raspy voice. You got to sound about you. It's different a little bit. I've sounded like this since I was a little girl. And so, like, when I was real young, we'd be in New Orleans or something like that. And someone would be like, oh, my gosh, stop and say something.
Starting point is 00:17:17 I was all shy and embarrassed, and I wouldn't because I was like, oh, it was okay. Now I'm embarrassed. but uh and like you know kids are mean in middle school because you got a deep voice and you get a little bit older and you start playing music and stuff and how you like me now how you like me now that's right yeah that's right and you go to go that's okay that's it that's awesome what age did you start with music I mean just in church music is that where you got to start yeah I grew up in church I was real fortunate to have that and so I grew up doing choir and uh like church choir is initially and then school. choir when I was old enough, which was like second grade, I think. And, uh, you do play the guitar, right? I do. My daddy got me guitar at eight, which I probably shouldn't say because I, when I play
Starting point is 00:18:02 guitar, it doesn't sound like I've been playing for as long as I've been playing. But, uh, it's one of those things I just fiddle around on. Well, that's hard, it's hard to, you know, this Christmas, woo. I like it. She said my daddy. She said my daddy. My daddy. She's about that daddy with a, eat.
Starting point is 00:18:18 My daddy. Yeah. Hey, just before the cameras, Which means you're our people. I love it. No, I love it. Before the cameras were rolling, it might have been my favorite part of the day
Starting point is 00:18:28 because Sa was a little late because he was filming some TV show. Some TV show. Clara said, hey, her chief, good to meet you. I was like, yep, she's going to fit in. She'll be just fine in this room. Hit him with the chief. Hit him with the chief.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Got a question, Jesse. Yes, sir. Do you worry about hitting the notes right? Or do you just get up there and let her fly? I think initially when I started playing out independently, like by myself, you get like really meticulous about it and you're nervous. But now it's a lot more fun. I feel a lot more confident on stage and playing music.
Starting point is 00:19:04 And yeah, I don't know. I kind of just winging this as I go. The reason I ask that goes, because Jason Robertson's wife, she's a songbird. Yeah. But she worries too much about the note. I always tell her, I said, hey, would you just one time? let it rip. Forget the notes and sing that song with everything you've got.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Some freedom. Yeah? Yeah. And she won't do it. No. Okay. That's choir, though. Choir will get that in your head.
Starting point is 00:19:35 You know, you start singing in French, and you really do got to go note to note or something like that. Can you sing in French? Are you bilingual? No, no, not bilingual. I can sing some French pieces from early choir days. Hey, she can fake it until I make it. Right. And I'm, I pray that no French person actually hears me singing in French because they probably would be like.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I think you're safe here. Right. Not a lot of Frenchies listening to this. I don't know. I wish I had been in my birthday party. I wish I had been at your birthday party. I would have been saying you would be. 78. You'll have me. Hey, she said book her right now. Write her down. April 27, 2007. I'll pull my calendar out right now. Next year we're going to have you. All right. She was busy all weekend because I was at the press conference deal for Washington River Fest. and they announced your name like seven different times.
Starting point is 00:20:21 You were all over that. Well, we were hanging out. You just put you a tent up in downtown downtown downtown downtown West Monroe, just hang out all over. That's really where I live is in downtown West Monroe in a tent on the levee. Yeah. We have a good time. We used to have a guy worked here that did.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Yeah, really? Well, Benny, I mean, it essentially was a kid. He spent way more time outside of his apartment that he did inside. And he could live in a tent by River. Yeah. For sure. It fits the person. He also plays a guitar.
Starting point is 00:20:46 And it's a little eccentric. Love that. man down by the river. A little folksy, if you will. A little foxy, a little hippie-tong, happy hour. We like that. There you go. We need to give her the guitar.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Yeah, probably. I need to hear it. I need to see Sai get excited. I want to hear Si I try to sing with me. Si, you should sing with me. See? You know, sing. That's what I'm talking.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Sing happy birthday to yourself. Yeah, you should. I ain't singing by myself. Well, she does have her guitar, and are you willing to, even though we ain't got fancy equipment? Absolutely. I love playing music. He's gonna let it rip when we come back.
Starting point is 00:21:20 And I'll be Lionel. You be Luke, you be Carrie. That's the first time anybody in my life here called me Carrie Underwood. I like you. Well, I mean, you know, I'm way more akin to being Luke. People never call you Carrie. All right, look. Don't let it go to your hands.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Always a bridesmaid. And never the brown. And I haven't got past when you said songbird while ago. I've still been replaying that scene from stepbrothers in my mind. Every time I hear it, you're the songbird of that generation. I've been called the songbird of my generation. I've been called the songbird in my generation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:52 You touch my drum set. It's Fergie and Jesus, man. Touch my drums. Oh, okay, we digged. So we're taking a break to let her get her, get her. We're going to let her. Okay. I don't know how you prepare.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Yeah, let's take a break. There you go. I won't put his headphones on, so I'm going to let my mic be his mic. That's fine. Wow. I mean. Did it live up to the Uncle Sy band? Hey, your version is better than the one I love.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Oh, man, I don't know. I'm serious. Oh, thank you. Your voice, okay, there ain't nobody out there got a voice like that. Oh, thank you, son. You're unique than that. Thank you so much. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I really appreciate that. Oh, no. That was beautiful. Oh. Unreal. Yeah. I don't know what I was expecting. I wouldn't expect.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I wouldn't expect not to come out of you, though. No. And I mean that with all the kindness in the world, right? That's not, that's, that's not meant to be anything other than kind and praiseworthy. I was waiting for a, I don't even know how to describe it. Yeah, I don't either. But it wasn't that. Yeah, it wasn't that.
Starting point is 00:23:19 And for that I say bravo. Okay. Wow. Well, thank you. You've got, I'm recording on my phone. You've got a gravel in your voice. Yes, sir. My man said gravel.
Starting point is 00:23:30 okay yeah i just had some for breakfast and yo most people okay yeah it's like cereal it's great oh she's good i guarantee you i know what people feel that comes to your show as you start stringing on that guitar
Starting point is 00:23:49 and then your voice comes out hey one day we're going to be able to say we had clara on our podcast oh no she's not coming back anymore she's well we're going to have to talk to different people We're going to have to. No, we're buddies now. That was unreal.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Most times, most people don't realize how talented there are. Okay. You said something earlier about confidence. If you don't have it, you should. Oh, thank you so much. Okay. Because here's the tank. I'm telling you, for the two years that I went on the road,
Starting point is 00:24:27 no. I've never heard a voice like that. Oh, thank you. I'm 77 years old, okay? This is the first time I've heard that voice. Thank you, son. I appreciate it. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:24:42 So, hey, here's my prediction. You're not a star now. You will be. There you go. You heard it here first. Can I quote that on my website? Yes. Yes, ma'am.
Starting point is 00:24:54 You sure can. If you don't, I'm going to be upset with you. He's going to go look up after this. Hey, Sai, look at it this way. Man, one day you could open for her. You'd get back to music business. You open for Claire. No, I wouldn't go, shame.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Step out on stage before. Well, that's why you go before. That way you can be long gone by time she goes out. By the time they're done. Don't go after. I will introduce her and be happy to do it. But do not go after. Don't go after.
Starting point is 00:25:18 That's a problem. Hey, for real, as someone who's set beside Sai, and we've had a lot of cool moments in here and whatnot. What episode is this, Hunter? or $450 something, maybe? $4.45. $4.45. I've seen Stie get to goosebumps about things.
Starting point is 00:25:33 I've seen them calm down. I tried to get the microphone because I thought he'd sing along or say something. He closed his eyes and tears were forming is how good that was. Yeah, he went silent. That's how you know that. You silence Cy Robertson.
Starting point is 00:25:50 The judge don't even do that. It's just me and that one other pretty girl. Here's the thing, Claire. If you do me a big phrase, do you sing gospel? Yes, sir. I can sing some gospel. Would you sing a gospel song or another song for me a gospel song? Yes, sir, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Would y'all mind if I looked at my phone? No. Sometimes I need a little problem. You do what you got to do. Cool. Huh? Yeah, we can do it at the end. We can end that way and go out on that.
Starting point is 00:26:19 I said I just changed the settings on this damn month. You got to be kidding me. no that would be a good way to go out though yeah we'll do that that'll be how we end it because we normally go out with a prayer yeah but i would rather that we end with you singing at a gospel song i'm in oh well we're still going to go out with a prayer because we're going to pray over her she on the road this much we're going to pray over her when we get not that we're ready to get out of we're not even close which i'm excited about but i'm just saying we're going at least pray over her before we leave and then she's going to close it with that this this is turning into something
Starting point is 00:26:54 Girl, the TV didn't do you justice. Oh, really? Thanks. That was a little. I was sitting here and I was, Martin, Martin's, I'm going to say it. Martin, you're not easy to impress sometimes. Yeah, no, I'm not. But I'm not a critic, but like, you know. Martin's face went.
Starting point is 00:27:08 And I was like, I just was stunned. Oh, that was not. I knew the gravel that she ate was coming out because I watched her, I followed her on Instagram and stuff. But that was in person. Well, I mean, I watched the stuff that you posted and talked about when we were talking about getting her, seeing if she would be available to be on. here. So, I mean, I knew it was there, but the power in it when it's sitting right beside you,
Starting point is 00:27:29 because, like, I got it through the headphones and I got it right. I mean, it's right there. Like, so that is, man, and now I know that she lives on one of my favorite places to fish. Like, oh, this is all kinds of, this is all kinds of good stuff. Oh, this is all kinds of good stuff. And we got Zane over here. Her husband is in here. Yeah, we did find out, so I found out she was married whenever we were getting set up for her to sing. Well, no, no, because I was wondering, okay I was going to ask her later okay she's 23 and she's married to a man from Nacidosis Texas
Starting point is 00:28:01 Zane over here that's a good thing yeah I ain't got nothing to get Texas but how'd you find you a doctor married to Texas man I just curious the short version we'll we'll we'll save the boring but we can even get how did you did you find him or he find you yeah yeah it's a it's a classic church meetup yeah real southern
Starting point is 00:28:22 Church came up. That's right. That's wrong with that. That's the best place to meet the ladies. His church, okay. So y'all Baptist? We're a Presbyterian. Presbyterian, okay.
Starting point is 00:28:34 But we don't think we're better than anybody is. Hey, look, here's my show them to you. And every other brand of them, right? I don't care what the name is. I don't care what the name is. Do you believe in the father of the son, Holy Spirit? Amen. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Then, hey, you're my brother. Yeah. My sister. Yes, sir. But those kids were always the best spellers. What? Yeah, because they had to spell that at early age. Where do you go to church?
Starting point is 00:28:59 Here's how good. Took a lot out of us. There's some silent letters up in there. Like, I mean, it's unbelievable, man. Here's how good you are. Uh-oh. I can't even come up with the words to describe your voice. He is shook right now.
Starting point is 00:29:13 So, no, I'm serious. Okay. You know, because I'm about to text Luke and say thanks for making her available. Hey. Go up. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to get you. Thank you for firing me. I really appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:29:26 I wasn't going to say it like that. How many records have you got out right now? I've just got a few singles out. And I actually, I feel like I shouldn't even say that. I'm not super proud of them. We're taking them down. And we've got new music coming out starting May 6th. May 6th.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Oh, this is perfect timing. Oh, wow. I'm just a few days. I'm a queen of scheduling things. Are we on? You're on Spotify as Clara Ray. I am, yes, sir. C-L-A-R-A-A-R-A-E.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Don't stop listening to us just yet, but like in 15 minutes, swap over to our. We'll put a link in the description, too. So if you're listening to this on YouTube, like, we'll make it easy for you. If you're watching on YouTube, which I highly recommend you do if you are just listening to this. There was something to do that. Well, you need to see it to understand why we're so dumbfounded. Because, again, I'm sitting here looking at it.
Starting point is 00:30:21 And it still doesn't make sense of what I just heard. So incredible. That is a understatement, sir. You guys. I said, no, no. I have never said that to Luke, by the way. The only thing that's incredible about Luke is how tight of pants he can get into. I'm not, no.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Yeah. I mean, I love you, Luke. Thank you for the opportunity. Yeah, when they're on the hangar before he's got a change in wardrobe, I'm like, you're going to get in that. I don't, the math doesn't math. here. But, you know, he pulls it off. It's talent. You did get three yeses, right?
Starting point is 00:30:59 I did. Yeah, that was automatic. Well, yeah, I was going to have some real trust issues if she didn't, like with the whole process of the show. I still now, after sitting here listening to it, have trust issues, period. Well, I wish I'd have seen the 24. I think you still can. Catch them on whatever night. My wife makes me watch the show. Right. I think right now they're down to the top 12 and they're incredible. Your friends in it.
Starting point is 00:31:24 The other Louisiana guys in it. John Foster. He's still in there. That's what I was talking about with the judges. You're talking about a job, tough job. I wouldn't want it. That's crazy. Well, I couldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:31:38 I really couldn't. But they did just have that gospel night on there that I heard did really well. Like where they had like a praise and worship night on there. Yeah, Easter Sunday they did. Yeah, which is really cool. Really cool for them to step out and take a chance on a night of faith on there. This whole season really leaned that way, which I thought was really cool. Like almost everyone there, which there was 173 contestants in Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Almost every single person there was a professing Christian, which was really cool. That's awesome. His name is Simon on the voice. Yeah, yeah. Simon Cow? Yeah. Cow. We're taking it.
Starting point is 00:32:16 He wasn't alive when he was doing here. Well, no, no. Yeah, I was back in the 1900. No, no, because he always amazed me when it just. The guy started to sing a song, and he got shook up, okay, and he was horrible, horrible. The guy that was singing? Yeah, and Simon said, wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:32:34 He said, hey, take a break. He said, take a break. He said, have you got any other song that you can sing me? And he said, I don't want the instrument. He said, leave your guitar back in the back. I want you to walk out here in front of me and sing. Yeah. And he was horrible now.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Even the second time? Well, Simon had told him, he said, hey, he said, all it is is you got the jitters. He said, go backstage. I got the jitters. Get me another song, okay, and then we'll bring you back out later. So he comes back out, no instruments, no music. And Acapella, another song, and just flibular. another song and just blew the crowd away.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Really? blew him away. You know, that's why, that's why, you know, that guy, he knows, he knows music, he knows singing, okay? Sir. I think Carrie Underwood still paying him. Yeah. So, hey, look, that's why I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:33:42 And all them one direction kids. That's it. I just can't picture it. You been 25th. Oh, well, I so appreciate it. Which is an accomplishment. Don't get me wrong, but I'm just saying, no.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Let's go back. You'll be Simon Cowell. I'll be Randy Jackson, and you can be Paula Abdul, and we'll run back the original America, and you win. I can't believe you remember all the original judges. That's going to be a no for me, dog. That's enough for me.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Who besides your mother told you were good at this? No, no, no, no, because here's the thing. Here's what happens, okay? She's a little. that gets on like... I can't let her and Brittany hang out. And then, you know, they usually weed them out if they don't get that far.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Mm-hmm. Because they ain't talented. Yes, sir. Yeah, getting in front of the judge. Okay, because somebody's been lying to this child or this man or this female telling them they can actually sing. And they can't.
Starting point is 00:34:38 But it makes great TV if they do come up there and see it. Yeah, it does. But the thing about it is, you know, you're letting somebody fix it, let somebody break his heart. Or her, her. Yeah. Or achy, break you. Because you've been lying to them, and then when they get out in front of somebody
Starting point is 00:34:53 a crowd, you know, they get booed. Well, good grief, you know. You didn't do them no favor. I've never been booed, but I don't think I would take it well. Well, it's like the problem with, like, all this gentle parenting stuff is that you've got the. I don't know if you need to cut this. No, you've, you wrote it, girl. Oh, no, no.
Starting point is 00:35:10 You're the first female been on here talking about this. I mean, it's just. You know, you can't. You both parents think their kids are priceless. That's it. And that's great. You should think the world of your children. And you should encourage them.
Starting point is 00:35:23 But don't lie. But ain't none of y'all going professional in baseball. You don't know, you didn't color in the lines that's not going on the fridge, okay? You need to be real about it. Okay. They're not little angels. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:34 She's got it. Hold on. Claire is not making any post to say hashtag proud dog mom. I can say that right now. We just got a stop note because she's got it. Like she just, the gravel joke, the color and the lines like you are you're going places we're calling it right now
Starting point is 00:35:52 i'm just going to go ahead and tell you too next time you want to come back you don't even have to bring your guitar you're funny enough to sit and that's right by itself so we're you're good but here's the other thing about you're in oh shucks cool hunter said this is coming from hunter he said dude i walked in and hunter helped shoot uh your spot for idle yeah in november he's like she walked up and said hey hunter how you been like that's another last level. I've only known one other person to do that, and it was Tim Tebow. Like, remember people like that? So, like, I'm, I'm, I want to buy stock in you right now if that's possible because I feel like I'll be rich. It's selling fast, but, you know, we could maybe get you in on the ground level. Yeah, she said you can't buy stock in her, but you, all donations are accepted. Talk to my manager's name. We should have put a tip jar. We just had a whole show. We had a whole show about tipping not too long ago. So I want, I at least want a t-shirt out of the deal. You got it.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Well, she can sign yours for you, leave. The one you're in, not a new one. What color are you all, Claire? We got black and we got silver because they just had to. Well, they had to walk out. What I was going to talk about, we had, we do a lot of these make a wish things, and we just had one here, a young kid named Noah from North Carolina. So if you feel led folks, you know, just lift Noah and his family up.
Starting point is 00:37:10 He was not, I'm not sure the exact condition. But anyway, he was not supposed to make it to 17 years. years old. He's now crowding 18. He lives a fairly normal life as he can. And so I've still got all the issues, right? But the Lord has been gracious to him and his family and kept him here and keeping his hand over him. So no, man, thank you so much for stopping in. That's why I have the Sharpies. We were signing hats and duck calls and everything. I brought Sharpies to get on the grass. I'm going to go get that piano. I got off Amazon and have you signed. I have Clara sign.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Hey, a duck call is technically a musical instrument. We can ever sign some of them? You know, we could, oh, we could make the Clara Raspi. We could rename the old Raspi. That's right. Oh, that would be so. We could just call it. We could just call it.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Like, marketing. It's Clara, right. That's it. Just right there. Put your own duck call. I only know one other person that's ever done that. Yeah? Yeah, he sold about a million of them.
Starting point is 00:38:09 It was rippie numbers, you know. The problem is, it doesn't sound very good. No. But it's fun. It was raspy, though, and old. Oh, it was all right. Yeah, it was decent. Like, it ate gravel for breakfast.
Starting point is 00:38:21 It ate gravel for breakfast. Do you play an instrument? He does. Oh, gosh, you should, yes. Yes, sir, I do. I play the bass in the band. Okay. So any of the band shows, that's where you can find me.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Yeah. He's being humble, too. He also plays guitar and sings very well. So your husband's part of your band? He is, yeah. Oh, that's really good. Recruit within. They're cheaper.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Yeah. That's cool. Are you management too? Are you management too? Do you book the shows or do you all have somebody else? I'm management in the sense that Clara goes, did I spell that right? And I go, yeah. Yeah, usually that's it.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Close enough. Spell it how it sounds. My spelling and the female. Yeah, as you get further down this road, you're going to realize there's some weird ways to spell some really common names. Yes, sir. And you always have to ask. They're always offended when you're wrong. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:39:12 I always like, is that with an O and I thought, oh, that's with an A-E. I'm like, well, how do you know, how does that make sense? Make that makes sense. Who have you met in the music business so far? I've met some cool folks. I don't know if you're familiar with Jelly Roll. Yeah. I just met him recently.
Starting point is 00:39:29 Wait, time out. Is it true that you called him Mr. Roll? Because you keep saying Mr. Role, and it's kind of offensive because I'm not that much older than you? It's a Southern thing, you know? It's a respect. You called Jelly Roll, Mr. Roll. I thought it would be funny on TV.
Starting point is 00:39:40 And they never aired it. And he was like, Claire, don't do that. That's weird. Just call me jelly. And I was like, that's not weird. I don't know. I don't know. Okay, Mr. Jellyroll.
Starting point is 00:39:50 Mr. Jelly, sir. Mr. Jelly, sir. Yes, sir. I'm such a fan, sir. No, he's cool. He was, he was the only person we really got mentored by at the point that I made it to. And he was so down to earth and himself through and through. And that was a cool experience.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Yeah, he seems like it. I mean, I don't know him, but he seems like a pretty humble fella that appreciates the grind and what it all took to get him to where he's at. Absolutely. I can appreciate that. Role. Yeah, Mr. Role. What a guy.
Starting point is 00:40:20 We were not besties, but the experience I had was nothing but positive. Yeah, that's awesome. So, like, if you had a musical, what's the word I'm looking for, not idle, but. Mentor. Not mentor or somebody that you're like, man, that's really cool. Let's just ask you the big question. All our fans are going out right now. T. Swift or Dolly Parton?
Starting point is 00:40:42 Oh, wow. Yeah. I respect Dolly Parton more just because of the empire that she's built. I think that's impressive. Going to pitch your porch, baby. Okay. But no hate to T. Swift. I think she's also worked her tail off.
Starting point is 00:40:55 Oh, yeah. Yeah, she's brilliant. But, yeah, dolly's, dolly's is an icon. You can't, you can't beat Dolly. There ain't no Taylor Swift brownies. That's all I'm saying. That's it.
Starting point is 00:41:04 There's no, there's no, you got Dollywood, you know. I will go into debt to drive up to Dollywood and get some cinnamon brand. Yeah, nobody's going to Taylorland. Taylorland. Except for Mr. Kelsey. It's a pretty, like, mellow roller coaster. It's kind of like monotone the whole time.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Just cut that out on her. You're one of us. Immediately canceled. No, you ain't getting canceled here, girl. This is a safe space here. Who do you look up to, though? Like, musically, influences. I don't really know the right.
Starting point is 00:41:37 But she's her own person. I mean, you hear it and you're like, you know, you go back to size heyday, almost of like Janice Joplin and stuff like that. Big fan of Janus. And I mean, the song you picked to play was Uncle Lucius, which I'm going to say, I didn't know. They're known by people, but I don't, I wouldn't necessarily say that they're well known. And as far as mainstream goes, right?
Starting point is 00:42:02 I just, I had no idea that they weren't mainstream until recently. And I looked up his stuff and I was like, oh my gosh, I didn't realize I was like part of a club, you know, that likes Uncle Lucius. But it's a cool cat, man. Yeah. And, yeah, they're super talented. It kind of revivalist-esque. a bunch of those guys. But that's why I was wondering,
Starting point is 00:42:21 I didn't know if there was one that you were like, yeah, all the stuff they put out is great. Or if you pull from everybody or all that kind of stuff. Yeah. I don't even know who I would even say. I respect a lot of people's work ethic. Like a great example is local gal Lady Wilson. You know,
Starting point is 00:42:38 she's worked her way up to the very, very top. I mean, she started here and, you know, did that 10-year-plus grind in Nashville. I think that's something to be praised. I think that's incredible. Another quality human. Lainey's great. Yeah, she
Starting point is 00:42:56 loves duck hunting. Yeah, she does. Her bar is different than Mosey. Some of the musicians don't, they're great, they didn't handle it right. They forgot where they came from. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:43:13 You know, it's his whole life. It ain't just, you know, he lives music. Okay, he lives it on the stage. That's it's not a job for him. Yeah. You know, it's his passion. It's everything. Yeah, it's cool.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Yeah, it's cool. I mean, that's one thing. That's why Luke shows are so good because you can tell he wants to be there. Dude, he's hilarious. He likes being the center of attention. You know, like, that's just who he is. And that's why it comes off when you get on stage. And like, either you want to be there, you're going to get up there and play your 12 songs and go get back on the bus.
Starting point is 00:43:44 Like, and then the people figure that stuff out. People aren't as dumb. Some as they like to think they are sometimes. I can dig it. But we are going to get out of here shortly. What we're going to do, I'm going to, I asked you to play a gospel song. And we'll close on that.
Starting point is 00:43:59 But before we do, Silas, well, before we do, where can they find you like the Facebook, Instagram, all the places? Oh, yeah. All the place. It's Clara Ray. It's Clara Ray. Oh, look at that. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:44:11 Yeah. Make sure that. Thank you. And we'll, like I said, we'll drop a link in all our descriptions to all that. So in case y'all can't find it. She don't follow nobody. That's how you know you're big time. It's just a business account.
Starting point is 00:44:23 Yeah, that's why. Yeah. Oh, that's how you know Zane's running it. That's it. So there it is. It's Clara Ray. But, Sa, why don't you, she's traveling a lot. Why don't you cover this young lady and her husband in prayers?
Starting point is 00:44:36 They do that and then we'll get out of here. Yeah, we're not good driving. With your gospel song. How about that? Pray. But, hey, you got to have your mic. Yeah, take your hat off. He took his hat off.
Starting point is 00:44:46 He took the mic. All of it. Yeah, we got to be able to hear you, though. All right. Y'all bow with it. Father, we lift Zane and Claire up to you. They're fixing to be on the road for a long time, Father. Give them perseverance, keep them safe, protect them from the evil one.
Starting point is 00:45:05 And Father, most of all bless them with her endeavors, okay? Because I know you heard it too. she's got a very, very, very unique voice, and she loves what she does. But take care of both of them, Father, give them all the blessings of life, keep them safe, bless them in their endeavors,
Starting point is 00:45:28 and we thank you for all the blessings you've bestowed upon all of us. And we ask this to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, amen. Amen. Thank you. We appreciate it. Oh Lord my God When I've an awesome wonder Consider all the worlds that hands have made
Starting point is 00:46:01 I see the stars I hear the rolling thunder My power through Then sings my son When you got, How great thou Then sings my soul Thou
Starting point is 00:46:51 When she gets her Grammy Remember you heard her here first
