Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back to the duck call room. Today is a very special day. Why is it so special, Jay? It is special because the man, the myth, the legend is 75 years old. Happy birthday, Uncle Sy. I appreciate that. And now you're the same age as me. Cy, you're going to have to make Ms. Kaye speaking to the mic and hold it for her like Johnny D does for you.
Starting point is 00:00:31 No, look, I'm 75 myself. So he's the same edge as me. So I think, how can that be? I don't know. You was one year ahead of me in Scoop. Yeah, well, you must have been slow. You're behind me. Well, I've always been slow.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Well, I'm slow, too, so it's okay. He just caught up. I've got a lot of good characteristics, but educational ones are not it. But I'd rather have a lot more common sense. Well, you've got plenty of that, Ms. Kay. I do. I can vows for that. And I can cook.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Real good. I was just thinking I had an educational speech with a man that's got a doctor's degree. And that was at the pilot for patients. Okay. Yeah, that was a good event. What a good event. Si did a special event for pilots. They actually flew me down to Houston.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Yep. Okay, free of charge. That's right. For your lung surgery. For lungs, yep. That was nice. That's a good deal. That was really good.
Starting point is 00:01:33 had a lot of people show up and the pilots a bunch of them got like 200 mission pins 300 mission pins 400 mission pins them boys stay in the air a lot they're doing a good deed that's for sure no they are they're doing the first two commands of god love the almighty with everything you got and then go horizontal and love your fellow man as as yourself well on this special day we we we will we want to let you know how much we appreciate you and what all have you done for other people. And I think this podcast, it would be a good idea for everybody to share their favorite Uncle size story. There's a lot of them, I know.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Hey, there's a lot of people in here. So I look at that wall over there. Well, no, no. When everybody started the door opened, it was like a, like a, they left the gate, though, all the horses are to fix to get loose, boys. Well, I'll tell what story. Okay. When men were dating, and Phil said we had to go get the,
Starting point is 00:02:37 you remember we had to get all those little baby fish to go on the trot line or whatever we were doing. So he assigned me and you to do that. Me and Kay was the Sainers. Yeah. 20-foot Sane. Well, and look, we're looking out there. I had shorts on, thank you.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I know, but I got to tell you. We looked out there, Phil said, y'all grab a stane, get out there. Look, all you can see is snake heads. in the water on that pond. You know, and Carrie said, wait a minute, Phil. I said something's touching my leg. And he said, it ain't nothing, little baby fish or something. I said, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:15 And he said, y'all hurry up. You and Sire holding me up. That's right. Get it on the bank. I mean, it don't matter if we get bit or nothing, as long as we got that bait in that net, right, Sigh? Yep. And I said, this is not right.
Starting point is 00:03:28 I'm your girlfriend. So, Sire. Y'all, what are you talking about? Y'all had a... It's a 20 foot. Okay, go ahead. Okay. Okay, it's like four foot deep.
Starting point is 00:03:40 And y'all dragging it. And we're dragging it. We don't want around the pond, you know, and are coming toward the bank. And I wasn't even strong. Y'all, and Kay said, something's wrapping around my leg, something, you know. I did. And I said, oh, don't worry about it. You probably fish.
Starting point is 00:03:53 You know, get it on the bank. We got to get, you know, live. We come out, hey, yeah, it was a fish. Yeah, well, that wouldn't even... Just in the middle of the... It's not even poison. That's what was around her leg. Yeah, and guess what?
Starting point is 00:04:07 He said, it's not poison. I said, well, I would have had a heart attack if I know that was a snake on. He lied to you. Well, of course he lied to you. Because it was a cot mouth. Speaking of, Phil got to both one the other day. Oh, no. I'm shocked.
Starting point is 00:04:24 No, no, that none of us ever got lit. So is that the end of the story? I was the end of the story. We got on the bank and thanked. full of fish, but it was all so full of cotton mouth about bigger my bicep. The non-poisonous snake he lied about. One of them stump tails. He had like that.
Starting point is 00:04:44 He just, yeah. That's old Jim. That's him, too. So, Miss Kay, let me ask you this. Did Cy go with you and Phil on all y'all's dates? I was there shepherd off. Oh, my goodness. Mama said, hey, Phil comes home.
Starting point is 00:04:58 I got a date tonight. First thing out of Mama's mouth was. Take your brother week. And he said, Mama, I'm going on a date with a girl. She said, I know. Take your brother week. So it was your job. Hey, we're at the joint while the kids hang out, y'all.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Dairy Queen or whatever the name was, y'all. It was a homemade. Homemade. Well, anyway, everybody kept coming up here, would say, who's that in the back seat? Phil said, oh, don't worry about that. That's our younger brother. Yeah, and who paid for everything?
Starting point is 00:05:30 So I tell them that. Hey, well, you, hey, you was rich, Kay. You had a car and a store. Obviously, I had money, too, or somebody would have paid for our stuff at the homemade. Hey, look, the boy got two degrees. He ain't stupid. He couldn't tell you. A woman with no money and no car and all that.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Yeah. He chose you, Kay. You had the money, the car. She was the wheel. She was a wheel lady. I know. That's how our... He dropped us off when we was on our wood duck, roost runs.
Starting point is 00:05:59 She'd drop us off. We'd shoot Woody's on the roost She'll pick them up later You know what I call it Driving the getaway car I mean I could have robbed the bank Y'all could have robbed the bank And I drove a getaway car
Starting point is 00:06:11 What was it? What was it Kay? What my car? Yeah It was a 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Oh, 62 Blue Bel Air
Starting point is 00:06:23 That was a good year Every time she'd come down She'd bring us a case of Coke Which was drinking about 30 minutes It's so stupid And they didn't let them get cold They drank hot coax They didn't have a belcher contest
Starting point is 00:06:39 Yeah And anything else I could sneak out of our store I was feeding the whole family For it was over Well there's so many memories That we've had over That y'all said that I actually Stuck a fork in your hand
Starting point is 00:06:56 When you tried to grab the last piece of it Yeah well thank you That was so rude You stuck a fork in her hand She said I did Yeah you did You almost cut my fingers Well you shouldn't have grabbed the last piece of chicken
Starting point is 00:07:08 It wasn't even the last piece Yeah wasn't it was last piece It was the last thigh I called for that piece That piece It was the last thigh I never Well I was going for it
Starting point is 00:07:18 And then you call for it My My thought was sitting Almost on it And then you call for it I know dubs though If you dobs If you call for it
Starting point is 00:07:27 You got it You got it back off No, you just stuck your fork almost in my hand. I'm believing K on this one. I don't have a favorite because they're all really good memories. Even the ones that there was some friction involved, like the infamous 100 Mallard's coming in the decoys that sigh flared off. I'll never forget that one.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Me and my namesake, they like to come to. Oh, yeah. The grand old art of. And you was a good enough shape back then. You probably could have took him. Oh, I'm positive I'd have took it. he's talking about jason yeah shocker shocker so i remember that k you were there remember that day that phil gathered everybody out in the yard and that was the funniest part of it and i thought he was
Starting point is 00:08:12 going to try to calm everybody down oh no no he proceeded to chew everybody's butt because they got out of the duck blind too early and then a hundred mallors tried to come in the hole and what did that do any good no no no jason robson his one was a bad part he didn't kill but one and he killed him at like 150 and i said hey look there was 35 mullers you know 60 yards from me you should have raised them just said bon bon bump bump bomb kill three but one of my favorite memory that makes me laugh every time i think about it john was there goblin was there we were fishing you remember this john and we pulled up on that breast top and i said there's about a hundred on that brush top john would throw out he'd catch a
Starting point is 00:08:58 Sigh would throw out, reel in, nothing. John would throw, catch a fish. Sire would throw nothing. Now, you gotta look at it. It happened 18 times. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no. You gotta look at it. I'll call it.
Starting point is 00:09:11 I'll call it. I'll call him, sir. And Sye said, I'm doing the same thing. Sye said, I'm doing the same thing you are. I'm grilling my bait. The same, he's got the same bait. I got the same bait. Look, our lines are like this.
Starting point is 00:09:26 I'm looking I'm looking like he's ridden I'm really just like here it's boom John sets the hook reels him in pound a half I reel it in
Starting point is 00:09:37 nope he strapped me 18 to 1 yeah I caught one crappy yeah I was done put 18 in the boat I said hey boys
Starting point is 00:09:48 I said let's go ahead and the load up and go to the house and they said what are you talking about I said I've had enough with this butt strapping well I got to admit something
Starting point is 00:09:56 you that day we didn't put a hook on your jig too bad you're on the oh look at him too bad you're right here and can't get out okay now it's all coming to I can't even think of the word boys well let's take a break
Starting point is 00:10:15 and let's let Philip tell his story next oh I got a good one all right look springtime is here it's warming up you know what that means that means more outside cook and and y'all know we love love to eat beef around here. And that's what because of our friends over at Tritels Beef makes such a good product,
Starting point is 00:10:37 ain't it good? It's so good. Our friend, Sao Robertson would say, buy on the grill! Look, before we got Tritels, getting ready for a cookout, man, somebody had to run the grocery store, do all the things, grab whatever was left in case you were late in the day. And you never really know where that beef comes from. But with Tritels beef, we skip the grocery store and do it a different way. Tritails comes from a family ranch out in Texas.
Starting point is 00:11:01 They're a fifth generation American ranch, so they've been at it for a while. Now, look, the beef comes straight from their ranch and other ranchers they work with who raise cattle the same way. Their steaks are properly aged and shipped straight from the ranch to your door. We threw a couple of ribbons on the grill. Look, salt, pepper, garlic, hot fire, that's all you need. Look, because I tell you what, when the beef comes from people who raise cattle for a living, you can taste the difference. The tenderness and the flavor are fantastic.
Starting point is 00:11:28 So if you're stocking the freezer for grilling season, go check out Tritails Beef. I know in size case Christine loves it, which is just a, she doesn't eat meat. She ain't a big meat easier, folks. Yeah. Just go to trybeef.com slash. That's tribeef.com slash support ranch families
Starting point is 00:11:46 and eat some dang good steak. So is that really true what Stone was saying about God on catching all them fish and you couldn't get it? Yeah, but I don't think they'd done what they said. I don't think they cut the hook off. What was it? Use the error. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I didn't get the bike. You had to have a seven count. You got chunking it out there and railing that bike. You wouldn't even let it get down there. It's a little. You know, sometimes you're the windshield and other times you're the bug. I was the bug that day. The impatient bug.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I got straps. It was a light bite. You had to really feel them. He was hitting it light. Well, hey, I wasn't feeling it. You had to have to feel. So, Sigh, it was probably a last. or 12 years ago when we started hanging out and running together.
Starting point is 00:12:32 My favorite story is when I had a men's Bible group at my house, right across from John, Godin was there, and all the boys were there. And they told me about sign. They said, you know, all these stories, he's crazy, and I believed all of them, and he is crazy. But they told me he couldn't hear very good, but he could read lips, you know. And then they told me that he could. They told me that, no, they told him that I couldn't hear either,
Starting point is 00:13:02 so he had to get really close to me. So the first time we all got together in the men's Bible group or whatever, he started hollering at me and grabbing me and looking at me in the face and screaming. He kept trying to turn away from me. Yeah, well, you were right up in my face. Well, hey, you know, they told you I read lips. Yeah. So.
Starting point is 00:13:21 And he kept trying to turn away from me where I couldn't read his lips. So look, this goes on for like 30 minutes. We're screaming at each other. Oh, God. He tried to turn away from me, and I'd grab him in something. I said, hey, you know, he's looking at me like, have you lost your mind? So they finally couldn't take it. They'd been doing it for 30 minutes, and then they couldn't take it, so they started laughing.
Starting point is 00:13:42 And I looked at me, I said, are you deaf? He said, no. He said, can you read lips? I said, no. So I knew right then, I said, you know what? This old boy. We've been had, boys. He's crazy.
Starting point is 00:13:55 But so I've enjoyed running the roads with you for the last 10 or 12 years, and it's always been a pleasure. And the most, the thing that I appreciate about you, we pull some good franks on you during your birthday. Oh, yeah. But I appreciate how you always share Jesus with people. You never back down, and I appreciate that. And people listen, they see that,
Starting point is 00:14:14 and they need to be inspired by people like you. So I appreciate you. And happy birthday, and I'm going to bring my good buddy John Gawwin. I mean, a Martin in here. Come on, Martin. And you're on. Don't let me interrupt. And you're on.
Starting point is 00:14:32 No, that's kind of what I was going to say. What I've learned from you over the years is your boldness. You taught me to be bold. Well, you know, what's funny about this is that my childhood, okay, that's why I went. Gosh, I was with part of that. Well, no, no, that's why I'm involved with homes of hope. Okay, because my childhood is, you know, if I could go back, if like the world was coming to it and then we had a time machine
Starting point is 00:15:04 and I could choose anywhere to go back to, be in my childhood. Wouldn't even be no thought involved. I'd just say, hey, said it for about 60s, 1960. Yeah, that's when I came into your life, too. Thank you. Hey, is it true? You got to think about this woman, not only put up with Phil Robertson, okay but she's had to put up with sigh robbers too because everywhere they went i went
Starting point is 00:15:30 package deal and tell them you introduce me as your sister didn't you well no no well he said well she's just like my sister i mean how old was he she was 14 and you were 12 yeah yeah is it true that phil and to ptmmy got you to plant golf balls because you said they told you you they'd turn into baseball they'd grow in the baseball I don't know if it's true or not but I've heard that story enough my siblings that told so many stories like Phil said I didn't wear it close to us 14 I heard that I was well I will tell you you you got up out of bed when walking there in your underwear I said sigh you're you're grown quit doing that in front of me I'm not I'm not your real sister and I'm here to see Phil quit walking around
Starting point is 00:16:22 your underwear you didn't want want to have lust in your eyes. No, no. No, no, but she did something. The thin man, I mean. Did he have that hump on his back then? Yeah, I've always had bad posture. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:35 But I mean, he was in his... I've always had bad posture. He was in his tiny wetties, but it just looked like a stick with arms and legs. I'm impressed they were white. He just walks outside. I said, what is wrong with him? Phil said, oh, he's probably still asleep. I can't say nothing.
Starting point is 00:16:53 get on me every day for taking a leak outside. I'm like, hey. Okay. Phil Robertson. Well, I mean, it's freeing. They don't understand that. I used to do that until Paula put them cameras up. Then you started facing the camera.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Yeah, I think Phil don't know we have cameras at our house either. I can tell you right now, Phil knew we had cameras in them duck blinds and he didn't care. He didn't care. I know, and y'all took BK hunting, you know. Don't you put that evil on me now. Well, whoever was there, and I'm saying, that's my granddaughter. What are y'all doing, just peeing behind the blonde or something? Because, I mean, you know.
Starting point is 00:17:31 No, Phil goes to the corner. Oh, God. Right by the GoPro. I'm sure she knows to look somewhere else. Generally, right in front of the GoPro in the corner. That's the waterproof GoPro over. We've got so many clips of Phil Robertson taking a leak. It's not even funny.
Starting point is 00:17:49 He don't care. No, he don't. And I can appreciate that. He does it in his yard too. I imagine Shirley Riley, our neighbor's got plenty to look at if she wanted to. There you go. Oh, Si, 75, huh? 75.
Starting point is 00:18:01 So when you turn 75, that gives you permission to wear your face on your shirt. I like that. That looks good. He's just staying alive. He's on this. We sit it too. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I like it. I thought it was John for Trovolta. Is that what his name? Yeah, Travolta. That's enough. Trevote. Whatever. Whatever.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Whatever. Whatever. But it's the BG's, huh? Put your mic back. Yeah, put your mic back by your face. That way we can all hear you. There you go. I took a swig of tea.
Starting point is 00:18:31 He got a little into storytelling. But now when we're on that road, the thing that I appreciate the most about, and probably one of the things I learned from him the most, have you ever seen the man have a bad day? No. He wakes up every day, chooses happiness, chooses kindness, chooses joy.
Starting point is 00:18:55 And me seeing that is one of the things that led me to becoming a Christian and to just choosing joy every day. Like to wake up, there's no reason to be mad. Like there's, and there's certainly no reason to harbor anger. So seeing that in you every day actually help shape my life. So thank you for that. Well, I appreciate that. But hey, look, life's too short.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Okay. and and I've been around too many, too many people that are always negative. I can't imagine that. No. I can't even. Look, that's why I'm with Duck Commander. Yeah. That reason right there is the reason that I actually come to work for my brother.
Starting point is 00:19:45 You're the chief. I was working for a man. Okay. And here you, he's retired from the military, got a retirement. check, okay? He runs his own company. He does repair old houses. If he don't want to go to work, he don't
Starting point is 00:19:59 have to. He's the boss. And every word out of that man's mouth was, woe is me. I said, wait a minute, dude. Hey, you own your own house. You've got a paycheck coming in. You really don't have to work because the major gets a good retirement.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I said, if it comes, push to shove, you don't even have to work. And I said, and all you ever say, oh, you're always whining. He was killing me. I had to leave. I had to get away. So then you come here and became Chief Moral Officer for Dr.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Hey, that's why the military put up with me. Because I wasn't in charge of morale. I wonder what happened there. I just couldn't wait. Hey, look. Court marshaled. All the screw up. The charge is would have never stopped.
Starting point is 00:20:45 You know, all the screw ups, guess who got them? You? Me. You know, it may even feel good. because I felt right with them guys. Yeah. I must have been a screw up, too. Okay, so hey.
Starting point is 00:20:56 I can't believe it. Yeah. But anyway. He admits it, he's an honest man. So the only thing that you can control. Okay. In this life, the only thing is what you can control is what you say and do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Everything else is out of your control. That's right. Appreciate that. Well, you're a servant. Yeah. Well, I just, you know, hey, I choose to be happy. I think that's something a lot of people don't realize. A lot of times happiness is a choice, right?
Starting point is 00:21:27 It is a choice. You wake up every day you can choose to be happy or unhappy. It's a lot easier to be happy. So this is from your nephew, Zach. Uncle Si. Uncle Sai, what's up, brother? Big day, man. I want to tell you how much I love you and how grateful I am to be part of your family.
Starting point is 00:21:51 I think you're one of the most talented. people that I've ever known in terms of humor and connecting with people. And you just had such an impact on the world with not just your humor, but the way you parlay your humor and your charisma and your personality into the proclamation of the gospel. And I just, I love that about you. I respect you a lot. Also know that my mom loved you dearly and you are her favorite brother.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Of course, you already know that. So you've always had a special place in my heart because you had a special place in my mom's heart too. So I love you, man. Happy birthday, and I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I wish I could have been there to be with you guys. Love you, ma'am. We almost forgot one of Sa's best friends for the birthday party,
Starting point is 00:22:41 and it's none other than Joe Burrough. No, I'm kidding. I just see the LSU National Champion's shirt. It's BK. It's Bailey Kay. You're Bullfrog. So, Sa, I'm going to give the mic to Bullfrog. so she can wish you a happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Yep, that's my fishing and hunting partner. All right, bullfrog, this is when you thought. All right, bullfrog. You got the mic. You got a bunch of memories with Uncle Sape. Which one is your favorite one? When we were fishing and we caught fish at the same time and mine was this big
Starting point is 00:23:17 and Uncle Saz was this big. Oh. What she's telling you all is, look, my bass probably was eight inches long and didn't even maybe a quarter of a pound, hers weighed about six and a half. Okay, so she strapped it on me. Well, Bullfrog, you just made a modern day miracle happen. You had Uncle Si tell a true fishing story. So that's all that boy.
Starting point is 00:23:47 We don't get many of those. 95% of truth. And the picture that I got from that, I think. took a picture of that exact moment that is one of the best pictures yeah i know i know what's what you're talking about because bailey got that one she out here just barely can hold up oh yeah back there with this one just smiling like oh and both of them had the biggest yeah it's a great picture that is good well i got a couple of things i need to tell people all right go ahead bk how would you pronounce that man's name danny we don't need to say their last
Starting point is 00:24:16 name danny thank you thank you for the pins that you sent us there you go okay and then someone else Lisa with a Y, our friend from Tennessee, she sends us mail often. Yep, she sent me a birthday gift with a card. Is there any money in it? I don't know. One you endless possibilities. However, this year unfolds. If anything's like you, it's going to be a basic.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Happy birthday. And it's Lisa. All we know. A&M. What is it in here? What did you get? Okay. Is that a Stoge?
Starting point is 00:24:51 Oh, no. No, never mind. Following Jesus is my cardia. I like that. There's some kind of shirt. That ain't the shirt. I love the way side opens present. No, no.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Hey. Nap, Commander. There you go. That's a good one, boys. All right. Appreciate it out there, Lisa. Hold it. There's another one here, too.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Uh-oh. All right, nap. I'm not sleeping. I'm just resting my eyes. There you go. I like that first. That first one was as genuine of a laugh as you're going to get from Si for a present. Thank you very much, darling.
Starting point is 00:25:28 There you go. Appreciate it. Lisa with the Y. Lisa with the Y? So, Cy Bullfrog told her favorite. What's your favorite memory of running around with Bullfrog? Well, I watched her shoot her first deer. There you go.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Okay. We're sitting there in my dear stand. Quick crinkling that paper. Which is a hotel. And we're sitting there and it's right at daylight. and it's the dough under the corn feeder. And her dad asked her, she said, well, you're going to wait on a buck
Starting point is 00:25:57 or are you going to shoot this dough? We need some deer meat. You took her about two seconds, I want to shoot the dough. And that was the first deer. No, and that was her first deer, and it was, hey, it was, Daya! Just dropped the dough.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Y'all, she puts his gun on safety, sets it down, and then does this, sits back in her chair. No smile, no men. stone or high-fiving she's no worried this summer okay we can go to the house now I'm done I've done what I'm supposed to do well that was a good memory she takes that line act like you've been there before to heart oh yeah he's the only one that does it around here yeah no hooping no hollering that's good ain't no hooping hollering boys I like that I wonder where
Starting point is 00:26:43 she got that from yeah I wonder both for all did you help your mom make size birthday cake I'm sure you did didn't you uh-oh it was good one but she didn't be okay you need to tell her but a little more uh what say you put in your vanilla bourbon vanilla extract in it bourbon vanilla extract in it bourbon vanilla extract bk made me one and hey she she put one scoop in and she said let's just see let's put another one that's all right so whatever you did with that one do it every time so what you're saying is bullfrog's cakes better than nance uh-oh but yours was this one was real good because it was perfect on the, you know, it was, wasn't dry.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Everything was good but the taste. Well, it could have stood a little more bourbon and vanilla extract, boys. Hey, Robertson's going to take their food, boys. Don't tell you, my uncle size that. That's right. Don't tell her. Man, just for the record, I didn't say none of that. Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:27:40 I'm not, you don't think I ain't breaking my peanut butter pie train. You don't, you don't lost your mind. But anyway, well, we wanted to make sure we snuck bullfrog in here, because we know that y'all got a lot of memories together. So, well, for all, you, you can kind of yell at him or something if you want to do it. It's up to you. Happy birthday. Well, I thank you. I love it. Happy birthday. Well, all right. All right. All right. We'll be back right after. Nice. All right. We're back. Johnny D's back in the house. I kind of like sitting over here.
Starting point is 00:28:13 We have a live studio audience. So if y'all hear some stuff, the audio's a little weird this time, and you hear laughing in the background. We have a live studio audience. We're going to get everybody from over there into here. So we're just trying to piecemeal it. together right now. So that y'all know what's going on. Swapping seats talking about something. We didn't pay them to come either. Huh?
Starting point is 00:28:31 We didn't pay them to come, did we? A little. You didn't get your check? No, I'm sorry. It must be in the mail. I'm sorry. I know this is a free bonus, but I like the people so it's fun.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Golly, I love you. Come back on your birthday. This is going to be so much fun. It's except you're going to be in charge of making your own cake. I'm sorry. Ask me what? What? This is still three days early for my birthday, but today's date is Phil's birthday.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Oh, yeah. And guess what we're doing at the house? Nothing. Because he didn't like to recognize the birthday. Well, why didn't he come up here? We could have celebrated him. Yeah, thank you. Yeah, that would have been interested.
Starting point is 00:29:14 Yeah. Yeah, he'd have missed a day going to his land. Nothing going on. I can't hate him at 77. Amen. He's earned it. What a life. Do what you want to do.
Starting point is 00:29:26 So I've got a pretty good sigh story. But it's not really a side story as much as it is a side lifestyle. Because it's what you've just always done. And I was sitting over there and y'all were talking about the boldness and the joy. And I remember, and this is, you know, 15 years before Duck Dynasty, I was just a little kid in church. And they dismissed the kids after like the singing to go up to kids church or whatever. And they'd sing a song. He's laughing.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And so I would, my parents sat kind of front left and Si set kind of back left but on the aisle and I'd have to walk past him and they'd be singing a song and there was not a human being and there ain't no instruments. It's all singing. There's not one human being and they're singing louder and it, look, you're a karaoke star, but you kind of off tune a little and he would be stomping just as hard as he could singing to Jesus, the Lord and worshiping. And I was always like, that dude's crazy.
Starting point is 00:30:21 But that joyful noise part, he's got it down. I took that to heart. And that's what I always remember about, is just him, and in case you're wondering, has he always been like that? Like, he's always been bold, he's always been happy. But you know what? Unless you're a visitor, there's nobody right in front of him or right behind him.
Starting point is 00:30:41 No, I said even with him. I sat on the same row as him. I just moved down a little bit. But I always sat there for the show because I knew, like, they needed him. up front on the worship team because he was worshiping harder than anybody in the room in the room
Starting point is 00:30:56 y'all remember me look I was sitting there and the worship team is singing some good ones that I really like like it is well with my soul that was when they'd get on that one when they'd get on that one anyway there's a new person and she come and got right in front of me
Starting point is 00:31:13 how long she make it no she kept y'all she kept doing this you know and all it happened was when she had I'd get louder. Though finally, I think was Kim Stevens finally went down there and said,
Starting point is 00:31:26 Darling, you probably need to get up and move either behind him or about 10 pews down in front toward the front because they're fixing to sing three of his favorite songs and he ain't going to get nothing but get down and get louder.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Louder and louder. Finally, she just helped her up. They went back behind me. Here I go. fantastic. I love it. I took it to heart. No, you did.
Starting point is 00:31:53 God didn't say, hey, sing in tune. No, I got it. God said, hey, make a joyful noise. And you were that. Baby, I make a joyful and I make it loud. Well, look, I'm going to slide out of here. I'm going to let a guest
Starting point is 00:32:10 that's been on before. He hadn't been in a while. Hey. But they're back in town. So, Cy, the man that you shared fishing stories with once before is in the house. So I think we're going to, won't y'all tell a couple of fishing stories that have happened over 75 years? Jacob, Willer. Say it on in here, Jacob.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Come on here, Jacob. In case you're wondering who Si's looking at the whole time he's telling stories, Jacob and D.C. are over there. And Cy loves telling a story. Well, he can't beat this one. I got one he cannot beat. Oh, snap. Oh, snap.
Starting point is 00:32:40 When we went to Ireland, I actually hooked the Loch Ness Monster. Scotland, Scotland. But the big heifer broke my line. Big dog. That's unbelievable. Now, I'll tell you, there is a, like, a Loch Nist monster, like, Champi up there in Lake Champlain, New York. I've actually seen him. What?
Starting point is 00:33:03 I swear. I mean, now listen, okay. You would fit in with us. It's some crazy stuff. I'm not lying, okay? Like, there's the middle of the lake. It's like the weirdest little area of the lake. It's just out in the middle of nowhere, right?
Starting point is 00:33:15 Yep. Super deep. I was down there, and this was the line. you know, live scope and ACA Target came along. I saw something out there, big giant boy and I had to see it go down. I just got a glimpse. I'm just, I still at this day,
Starting point is 00:33:26 I think it's, I think it was like the champy. He didn't top it, but it hit tight. It was a big deal. I think it might be, it might be his buddy. I'm glad Martin left because he would be telling everybody how untrue that was right.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Oh, no, look, when we was kids, okay, me and Phil Tommy and were stair-step. Tommy is a little taller in the field, then feel than me.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Yeah. We'd go sane bait, you know, go to 12 mile by you, set out throw line. We ain't got no boat, so we got to make throw line. Put a brick on the end of the line, make, you know, eight hooks, bait them up, you know, stick a will of a bank, you know, throw it out there, you know, come running.
Starting point is 00:34:06 So look, there was a silver fish. I don't know what the stupid thing was. And big. For the ninth, you know, dark, you know, you'd hear, you'd hear, you'd hear. You look, and if you get to watch it, you'll see just something silver come out. Splash. I never figured out what it was. But, I mean, hey, these things were big.
Starting point is 00:34:30 May it be the gar. I don't know. Asian carp? Asian carp. Do you guard jump? No, too big carp. I'm talking about these things six, eight foot long. Six eight foot long?
Starting point is 00:34:40 Dolphins. Oh, Gar. These are huge river dolphins. It wasn't a sturgeon down here. No. We had sturgeon. It could have been a sturgeon. Big giant sturgeon.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Yeah. It could have been that. I didn't think about it. Ah. It could, because we used to want my, get on a sandbar where the water was shallow. Yeah. And we just go like this with our hands. And I've caught little baby sturgeons.
Starting point is 00:35:04 You've caught baby sturgeon? Yeah. In these waters? In Red River. In the Red River, you've caught a baby sturt. I'm normally so with you, man. I'm not sure about that one. Martin, you need to come in here and...
Starting point is 00:35:16 Martin, you should come in here and... Mark, you sure. A apology, this man. Is the biology just going to say there ain't no sturgeon in the Red River? It's his day. It's your birthday. That's BS. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Watch your language. Hey. I used it. I use just ABC, boys. We went on the Red River. I'll verify that. We all used to go on the Red River. Hey, I've called him in my hand.
Starting point is 00:35:41 I'm telling you. Yeah. I've caught Sturgeon's in my hand already. Hey, ass feel sometimes. Hold on. Look here, ask Phil sometime if we had caught
Starting point is 00:35:50 Sturgeons in Red River on the Trot Line, on not Trot Line, but a toll line. We weren't ain't supposed to be on Red River. Why are we not supposed to be there? Because they said it was too dangerous and had too much current.
Starting point is 00:36:01 So who goes out there? Phil and Zah. We lived on Red River. I know, but I'm telling you, if I had gotten so much trouble, if they knew I was out there with y'all. No, no, but look, when Mama will get sick of us,
Starting point is 00:36:14 we just, if they get in the car, You know, we done something, broke something or something, spilled something, made her mad. She said, she'd get in the car, we'd get in the car. She'd drive us 15 miles up river. Let us out on the levee and say, okay, I don't want to see any of you till dark. It's the summertime. So, hey, we'll just go to Red River, push us, find us a log floating, you know, push it off, get on it, float down.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Dangerous. Catching sturgeon. That's what my childhood, hey, Tom Sawyer and Uncle. Jim. Hey, man, I did that. I ain't had nothing on me. All right, side. We've done all that.
Starting point is 00:36:53 If you had a tip for a bash pro, we have two bashed pros, myself and Dustin Godinell in this room, what would that tip be just in general? We got to work on getting better. Top secret tip. Size tip of the week. Secret tip. Guy one said, you got to have a feel for it. You got to have a feel for it.
Starting point is 00:37:13 You got to have a work on that. I hope you've developed that, Jacob. I'm sure if you're trying to learn. I'm serious. People, you won't think of like, worm fishing? Yes. Worm fishing, all that is, is, hey, you got to have a sensitive touch. Your equipment, okay?
Starting point is 00:37:34 A sensitive tip rod is deadly important. Very. So it really acts. Because, hey, actually, actually is key. Look, a crappy, I give you example, Cropy. You're fishing. Oh, cane,
Starting point is 00:37:49 Cain pole with cork. Yeah. Thank you. Okay. She said thank you. You know, hey, the cork, you know, it's up right. It just lays down.
Starting point is 00:38:00 You ain't paying attention. It just lays down. Well, what he did was how that Cropi just come up and he actually, he'd come up, he's got the bait in his mouth and it's come up, the cork laid over. Just go ahead and set the hook on him. That's it. Hey, you didn't, you didn't feel him.
Starting point is 00:38:19 You're right. You're right. You didn't feel it. I literally, the first day I've ever actually, three to three weeks ago, I caught my first crop yon cane pole. I never perjerk and I never did that before. And I was like, and there is a little bit. There's an art to it.
Starting point is 00:38:34 There's an art to it. Oh, no. Because that's like, okay, you got one in 14 foot fly rod type deal. Yeah. You got a little small one third second jig on. You're fishing. eight foot deep. Cropy does the same thing of that.
Starting point is 00:38:50 You're looking the line straight. The line starts to move a little bit. It just moved just a little bit. He's come from the bottom. He's already got it in his mouth, but he's up afoot. You didn't feel it. You didn't hear. You know when they hit it.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Boom. Yeah, okay, I got it. You know that. But there's times that, hey, you got to have sensitive feeling. in it. Okay. Well, remember when you were a little boy and were so poor and whose camp did you go fishing at? And got boats.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Your daddy. He rose? Yeah. Yeah. Everything. The biggest bass out of all lost one of them, one or two. I lost one at your camp, your father's camp. I know. And didn't you... You didn't feel... I think that's why I feel like me more when he found out I had a camp.
Starting point is 00:39:43 Yeah. Your dad was out in New York. And you're feeling Get to know your dad much, did he? No, because my dad passed away when I was 14, but you sure loved the camp and the boats and the motor and the everything. I mean, we had a blast down there, but who never wanted to leave? I don't even know if we take a break now.
Starting point is 00:40:02 We'll take a break. But all I know is this, Wheeler, if you win this whole thing down here this weekend, it's because the sound advice you just received. Well, I thought that. Happy birthday, Saw. You, you're an icon. Well, we're not going to take a break.
Starting point is 00:40:15 break, but we're going to get Dustin in here because he needs some. No, no, you're staying. You're staying. I'm going to take it. I'm going to hop out and we're going to just keep with the fishing. That's my advice, though. Sensitivity. Sensitivity. Sensitivity. Learn to have that feel.
Starting point is 00:40:30 The natural feel, boy. All right. You all right. You're fishing. What's up? We're fishing bussy, so this is how it works. This is how our tournament works. We have $25,000.
Starting point is 00:40:41 So if you catch big fish of the tournament for the first round, it's 25,000. For the second round, it's 50,000. The big fish? Big fish. And then on Bussey, on the championship day, it's $100,000 for first place. It's $100,000 for the big fish. So there's, you go in $275,000 is one angler. It's all about big fish.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Big money. I think it's all about money. Hey, you. Money. It's the mother. Yeah. We was all waiting. I got some more advice for you.
Starting point is 00:41:17 There we go. Okay. A devil horse. All right. The big one. The big one. A big one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:41:26 And if you got it, go buy you some bigger treble hooks. I'm serious. The hooks that are on it are too little. Go buy you a size. Go buy you a size bigger and put them on there. Okay. You know what's up. I'm serious.
Starting point is 00:41:44 And hey, early in the morning, early in the morning, Not at daylight, fish that devil horse. Afternoon, late in the evening, fish that devil horse. Have you ever seen a glide bait? Glide bait? No. I probably have, but, you know. A lot of them are like this big.
Starting point is 00:41:58 They look like a fish. Okay, no, no, because I've seen what you're talking about. It was a trout. Yeah, it's like, yeah, a speckled trout. Mm-hmm. Okay, and look, it was one foot long. Bigging. You know, they fish one of the California lakes.
Starting point is 00:42:15 Yes. That's what they catch them on this week. pound, it's like a pound, what is this stupid thing? You caught one, rainbow, rainbow trout. Okay. It's a one pound rainbow trout bait.
Starting point is 00:42:29 You just throw it out there and start ridden it back, you know. So when one hit that, oh, he's a bull. Hey, bigin. Yeah. So if you're, but the devil horse, I'm telling you. That devil's horse, especially on Buzzy. A hundred percent. I didn't know this at the time, but I was trying to change the hookout
Starting point is 00:42:45 on one of the devil's horses. You need a screwdriver to change. Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah, oh, yeah. You need a flat head. Yeah. Hey, don't. There are no splinterings.
Starting point is 00:42:51 And you can mess it up, too. If you mess it around and don't, you don't want to. If you tighten him too much, you're going to crack the bait. Well, you'll, you'll, hey, he'll pull it out. Yeah, you better have a screw driver when you're throwing him. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, dear Uncle Si.
Starting point is 00:43:20 Happy birthday to you. Don't you spit on my cake. Hey, spit on that cake, boy. Woo. Wow, boy, that's right. 75 and feeling fine. How's that, boy, that's it. We're back.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Everybody's enjoying cake. I'm going to abstain for the time being because you can't, a podcast does no good if it's dead air. So I get on it here directly. But Anna, Stone's wife, made Cy, his favorite cake for his birthday, a pretty basic pound cake.
Starting point is 00:43:49 I mean, overall, I mean, size is just, that's what he likes. I call her Anna Banana, but you know what? She can whip these out. How'd she learn this, Kay? I wish minor and frog here. Probably from me. Oh, you're so modest. You really.
Starting point is 00:44:05 I know. Is she your favorite granddaughter? I didn't say that. You can say it here. None of them listen. So it's fine. Not even her. I can't say that on the air.
Starting point is 00:44:18 I can't say that on the air either. But, you know, she's real, real special. There you go. He does listen, Martin. Just to make sure I don't say nothing I'm not close to. Oh, that's unfortunate. Yeah, I know it. Brittany doesn't.
Starting point is 00:44:32 I'm thankful for that. But how is it, so is it past your test? Okay, he can't talk, so I guess that's a good thing. His whole piece, look at him. That's fine, his frog hair, split 16 away, boys. And that's two pieces he ate. And I've ate a four. of one. Yeah. Well, he's wasting away, Kay. Look at him.
Starting point is 00:44:53 Oh, no. Blessing. He's going to be nothing. But, Cy, look, you're not a man who likes to be celebrated. You're not overly one to do celebrations, but we just wanted to take the time today to let you know how much you mean to us. So hopefully we've done that with some laughs along the way. You've got to tell some of your finest stories here. You got to, you got to give professional anglers fishing advice. That's kind of cool. I mean, a lot of people would love to do that. Look, if they'll listen to me, get them devil horses? Yeah, and put that mic up next to your face?
Starting point is 00:45:25 That'd be cool, man. That way you'll get the big bucks, boys. But don't get that devil horse in your hand, as I did one day. It's okay. You fished a devil too? Well, I was trying to help Phil change the bag, you know, the thing, but I got it all mixed up in my hand. Oh, hmm.
Starting point is 00:45:42 So Phil said, I use this sanction for that blood. We'll get through it. It'll be all right. We'll take care of it in a little while. Let me catch another fish. That's better. That's better than he did the old boy down there at his house where he pulled. I should have asked him why he was up here.
Starting point is 00:45:58 What? You ever fished California lakes? I never have. Huh? Why? You want to go? Well, no, no, because I was just saying they catch them. They got some big ones. I bet you say he'll probably take you.
Starting point is 00:46:11 Because anybody that's using a pound bait, you know, a pound speckle trout as a bait. Yeah. I got big fish. Just watching the next couple of days. They're going to catch some bigons on it right around here. If you use that devil horse, I'm telling you. Oh, here we go. I'm telling you, boy, it's bunny.
Starting point is 00:46:31 I love it. Well, it probably would be. That's probably the one bait they haven't seen on Caney Lake. They haven't seen it in 30 years. That's right. I was the only man in America that could tell the world's greatest bass fisherman and how to fish. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:50 Yeah, the top. And he says there and listens. The top two in the world. Well, they're just being polite. Well, you can know,
Starting point is 00:46:56 hey, you know, hey, the reason is, okay, when Phil and Tommy was in, at tech,
Starting point is 00:47:03 at college, they would, they arranged their class schedule, y'all. Like, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,
Starting point is 00:47:13 I thank Tommy to fish. He had classes on Tuesday and Thursday. And Phil done it the other way, you know. So they was staying on them. They was on the lake every day. Is that why it took him five years to graduate for him?
Starting point is 00:47:30 Well, no, no, I understand. No, not really. But hey, they're going to be fishing. It did. I mean, because it, graduating fast would mess up his fishing and hunting schedule. So that, his school had to work around that. Kay, did you graduate? I did from high school, but I went,
Starting point is 00:47:50 One summer semester and took two classes at tech. And my teacher told me at the end that I was the nicest dinner he ever had, but college wasn't for me. So I said, well, you know what? We need a lot of other people out there in this world besides college educated people. And I'll be that person. And he was so glad he didn't hurt my feelings. I didn't care.
Starting point is 00:48:15 I really didn't know that. I wouldn't even trying to bring up an old painful memory. That was a legit question. Because low-key, it kind of sounds like you care a little bit. No, I didn't. I really didn't, Martin. I've been around a lot of smart people with a lot of education. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:32 Don't mean nothing, does it? Well, if they can't make you laugh, it don't. Really? Okay. You have that gift. I promise you that. Yeah, my granddaughter said something about it, and I said, she said, why are you so funny?
Starting point is 00:48:47 and what was your reply i'm very interesting i used to be on a show and it was a comedy what do you do watching a comedy and she said you laugh and i said well i'm still laughing and that's the truth you'd be a lot better off than those old boring griping people that somebody was talking about earlier yeah love now who wants to listen to that i'd much rather listen to funny people hadn't you jose Oh, yes, ma'am. Leave them laughing, boys. Well, look, Si, 75, we're going to give you the mic. You've 75 years.
Starting point is 00:49:24 You're one piece of wisdom to drop to all of our fans before we sign off today. The floor is yours, my friend. Probably the best advice I can give you is don't think more highly of yourself than you ought to. And hey, look, trust me when I tell you this, laughter will make you live longer. True. There you go. You heard it. You're not going to be stressed if you're laughing.
Starting point is 00:49:56 My parents both died younger, and I've been a lot of 20 years more than I was supposed to if you're after your parents, you know? So I'm saying, I think it was because I laugh and I don't worry about things, and I'm not, I just don't, I just want to be funny. Mission Accomplice. Oh, man, I love it.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Look. Keep on laughing. Everybody in the comments, wish, Si, happy birthday. We will see y'all next time right here in the duck call room. We're out. Happy birthday, sigh. Appreciate it. Happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:50:36 So how many days y'all going to be on the lake?
