They send me to them. Look, they send me two presents. Oh, there you go. Oh, they put. Armed on wood. Now, here's what I like about it. Is it that much coincidence? Okay.

The first one is Jesus loves me. And the second one, it is well with my soul. That's the reason. Okay, Jesus loves me, so that's the reason it's well with my soul. Then, guess what? We've got a guest, Mr. Willie Robinson, when it's in the house. And look. Is that coincidence?

Yeah, that's a coincidence. Because we're going to talk about what's the title of your new book? Gospeller. Gospeller. If you need a hint. Look right there. Yeah. When I first saw that, I said, that is.

That is not even a word. That was coming. What is it? That. I didn't even work. So I got the Webster Dictionary out. At first, I didn't find it. Time out.

I said, that's just what I thought. This ain't a word. You got out the physical dictionary? Yeah. There's one right behind you. To look up what? To look at what word? Gospeler.

Well, anyway, I know the definition. It's one that teaches or professes his faith in the gospel. The gospel, there you go. Yeah. I didn't know we had an actual. I just thought it was weird that I get two songs, okay, for my birthday. And then we're going to talk today on the podcast about, Well, it is you, but...

I just assumed that they sat by you in church one time and heard you sing it as well with my soul, because that's one of your jam. That's when that foot starts saying. That is a good one. Whenever they get to that verse about the clouds, B-roll back as a scroll. Oh, yeah.

Oh, I scream. I'm serious. I'm serious. Yeah, I just... Every time, every time O'Kelly get to humming that one and I was there by you, I was like, okay, boys. We got a live in here.

Get it up there, boys. Get it where you want it. Okay. Oh, man. And I'm looking forward to today's podcast. Well, good. Yeah. I'm glad.

I'm glad to know that Willie's the one that lights your fire because the rest of us, you know. Come on, baby, light, my. That's right. But, well, boss, you are here. And he wrote a book. And before we get into the full book, because we got, we got a little bit. You've been traveling a little bit, huh?

Oh, man. I was fixing. I hadn't seen him in what. He's a guy speller. to travel. Six months, probably. Those probably go together. Oh.

You haven't read it yet, obviously. I have. I got notes, son. Well, I'm saying if you were living in the book of Acts, like, you probably were. He's a traveler. He's a traveler. Saturday was my third Saturday in Wastataw Parish this entire calendar year. That's a great.

Johnny, you don't know what it's light. I have no idea. You in your life, you wouldn't have any idea what that's like to be on the road that much. No, when I was your assistant, you just sat out in Camp Chilke and burn things. In the book. In the book, you'll find out about it. Hey, he did that until I was out there casting big old. I did.

I had a fire going. That was funny. This is my neighborhood version because I've been all neutered. Yom in a neighborhood. But I still burn, but it's in a garbage barrel. Yeah. He's burning. I'm burning limbs in a garbage barrel.

He's trimming. he's trimming his mayhaw trees. Well, yeah, it's like my wildness. Him and the kids. I'm like a caged animal. I picked the mayhaws. I made about 30 jars of jelly. Okay.

And then I had one mayhaw that passed away. And so I cut it. I had a little handsaw. And you're burning it in a barrel? Burning in a barrel. Yeah. Yeah. While I was over there going, oh.

His kids, homeless guy, staying warm, but I was doing it for funzies. His kids keep moving into his yard. Yeah. He ain't got a burn pile on them. Sadie's house is where my burn pile. I still got a burn. Like, man, I've got to burn stuff.

So I've got... You can't throw it on Big Dave's pile. He still got his pile. I actually thought about that. I thought of lots of stuff on that pile. But then you don't get the satisfaction of watching it burn because it's on date. You got to feel the smoking. That's a big Dave.

You got to get out there and just feel it. You got to feel it. Singe all the hair on your eye. Yeah. Go in and burn. That's one of the best parts of a burn pile, though, is you get to watch it burn up, the labor of your work. You get to watch this. I love it.

Yeah, it's very freeing. It makes you feel good. I've seen Willie burn a lot of stuff. Oh, no, he enjoyed it. He was out there about. I was trimming the limbs. So when I was picking the Mayhaws, I realized like, I can't clean this thing up a little bit. So there's some low hanging limbs, not from the Mayhaws, but from the other trees.

And I like being able to walk through without, you know, getting all ducking. Yeah, ducking and diving. He likes to travel. He likes to burn things. That's two things I'm into. I planned that day. I planned it. I was a pyro maniac.

This is the day that I'm going to burn my stuff. I need a new barrel, though my barrels fall apart. Rust it out. If only you had to money. If only you had the money for a new metal barrel. Golly. We probably got one in this parking lot.

Do I seriously. Why? That's all my. Go loaded up. What was it? a deal with the pickup truck in the trailer and then it was full of llamas. Oh, there were llamas out in the parking lot. I just, hey, what?

Did you, are you going to put a fence up to have them out here? There's a family with a pack of llamas out there. Yeah. And I went out there and took a photo with them. These are not like run-of-the-mill llama. These are special llamas? Oh, man. You didn't have.

Roomed and like they looked like. You didn't have to go. You didn't have to go. You didn't have to tow a machete with you whenever you wanted to this llama? I had a llama one. rest it soul it passed away of natural causes of natural causes did threaten that thing a lot oh i was mean we went out there to feel something that whether he'd run out to me like he was gonna jump on me yeah and he i took his little spitter gland out they're bad about he would fake spit at me

like in my face and yeah he like they got a big old neck i had a machete and i rare i said you sucker you come one more foot i promise we got we went out there one day to shoot you i think it was dixie chopper or something you had a lawnmower deal at the time but we were out there to shoot like a little video for it a little commercial thing for and we got to the edge of the gate and got out and Willie reached in the back of the rig and grabbed a machete I said what the world's that my shit what's that for you're on a lawnmower he said oh no this is for the llama that llama that's for that llama that llama come after me he kept coming after me and then I jumped on that big dixie chopper They built one with like two motors.

Uh-huh. Like the sickest thing. I jumped on that with the machete, he took off. He liked me now, huh? Come on. I'm just, I fired both them motors up and you were moving. You were moving. You started blowing some grass out.

Oh, man. And Lama didn't like you though because that jacket you always wore was his... No, the Lama. That's alpaca. The Lama. Are they not cousins? Well, they're cousins, but that's probably... Lama didn't like me because the Lama fell in love.

with the mule so if you got by the mule and for some reason i guess i posed a threat to the mule you pose the girlfriend or whatever with the machete there's a there's a joke to be made there but i'm telling you that she thought you were a jackass the llama maybe so maybe so i'm sorry lord i'm sorry all right look springtime is here it's warming up you know what that means that means that means more outside cooking and y'all know we love to eat beef around here and that's what because of our friends over at try tell's beef makes such a good product baby ain't it good it's so good it's our friend sall robertson would say buy on the grill look before we got tritels getting ready for a cookout man somebody had to run the grocery store do all the things grab whatever was left in case you were late in the day and you never

Yeah, I took a picture with them and they were telling me all they were going to show them.

Did you just grab a coffee pot from this? That's my coffee. Oh, he just bring a coffee pot with him with him. Hey. From your house? Of course I did. Of course. Of course.

I'm like a sophisticated version of size. Hey, he's been at this office for two hours. So I have all my liquids that I tote with me. I just have better. Oh no. Hold it. I have a way better. I beg the different with you.

Better system. Oh, hey. This keeps coffee hot. My tea keeps the ice. you know, you're like, that's the cheap, that's the dollar. Oh,

you finally got a, oh, he's a, oh. Hey, they finally gave me one. Don't you finally got? Well, you couldn't afford one.

I mean, they gave him one. They gave him one with his name on. Is that what was holding you back this whole time was like the money? Hey. Because I hear you saved a bunch of money on a fence. I figured the person that I said, hey,

hey, go give me some hire. I figured she would have come up and said, okay, Hey, look, I got something for you. But they never did. These old Robertson men. So then Martin come up and says, okay, hey, try this. He said, we've been trying to get you to use that for years.

And I said, that's BS. No, it ain't either. Yeah, it is. No. Because, hey, ever since you gave it to me. You stopped telling lies right now. Hey, every time, ever since you gave it to me, guess what? The rest of us would just go purchase something if we thought we needed it or wanted it,

but you're like just sitting around waiting for somebody to give it to you. Why not? I and he gave it to me. It technically worked. It just took a long time. But unlike your brother, when I gave him one and he drank coffee out of it, he said, Knop, coffee's too hot. I'm like.

Well, hey, when you gave it to me, I said, oh, hey, I said, I'll fix it retires. He said, Phil said, Nop keeps it too hot. Too hot. He said every time. Those ribs are too tense. Yeah. I'll cook the ribs too long. They're too tender.

We took Phil a bunch of shrimp one time. He looked out and we go. Too big. It's shrimp. He goes, too big. Shut it. And I was like, all right. I did cook for Phil on Sunday.

Yeah, that's the most I've seen him eat like in a year. Really? And it was roast. Yeah, he's been dogging my cooking forever. Yeah, well, I know how to cook. He didn't know. King Goyan. Yeah.

King Goy. And I cook some roast. And I mean, it was on point. Was it Wagoo steak, roast? He made a to go and took it with him, which I've never seen. I never seen him do that in his life The things that happened when Kay moves out and got to go to rehab

I know he starts starving to death Phil starts taking to go plates It was on point man It was it was yeah Was it a special cut of meat or just a standard rig No it was just the stand Actually I was at the grocery store And they had them on sale

Cheap Cheap old Robertson man I'm like Are you turning it into the I'll take that When the penny sales you know It wasn't brown yeah But it was

close. It was grain. Yeah. Especially under the age beef. I took it. I was a couple of them short ribs in there with it. Oh,

man, it was good. Actually, Phil was so impressed because I was cooking the roast and making the Mayha jelly at the same exact time. He goes, I didn't know that was possible. I said, well, yeah, you can multitask, you know? Like, you got a bigger kitchen than Phil, though.

Well, no, I'm saying, but the roast, like, I put that on like six in the morning. It was Sunday lunch. So once it's in, you ain't doing nothing. You know what I'm saying? And if you're looking, you ain't cooking. If you're looking, you ain't cooking. True words never spoken.

And then I went out and so while the roast was in the, now he's burning stuff. I went out, no, that's when I picked another about four gallons of mayhawls. But I didn't do the shaking. I tried the shaking method and I said, I'm just going to pick them. But I really, so your trees, I felt like a gardener, man. I was like, I'm up there just picking berries.

So the trees finally worked, though. That's the big story here. The mayhog trees. years eight years of no mayhaws the old timer told me he said yeah here's your problem if you can see a cedar tree they ain't going to make and i'm like thank you wise old person but what do you do about that because i can't cut my cedar tree i got to have the cedar tree Louisiana well i got to the position of the cedar trees are in between me and the highway so and the three-way stop that people just continue to plow through yeah i just heard i had to buy two new cedar trees

So that's what he said. And so old, I like that stuff. Old Jay Stones, he said, hey, we got Mayhaw's. I said,

how do we have Mayhaws? He said, I sprayed for cedar rust. I wonder who told him about that. The cedar rust spray, yada, yada, yada. We're all picking mayhaws,

and I got jelly. We've already eaten like three jars. Like, but I gained like eight pounds. I mean, like, if I keep this runner, we made biscuits

three, meals in a row. Praise God. Jelly and biscuits ain't on the program. It is when you just cooked my all jelly. It ain't on your program

but it's on mine. It's on the program when you cook by all jelly. That's what you find. Sometimes you got to change that program. That's what you. Oh, you lost a lot of weight, didn't you? Congratulations.

I'm on my way. But I would eat that. It's living well. Yeah. You just got on. I mean, it's not like I eat this, but like we wanted to make it

for the kids. Like I fried backstrat. So fried deer strap. backstrap and what do you tell you can't eat it's on the program no i just said that's not whatever that's not like a protein smoothie i'm gonna keep eating fried deer steak that's exciting i'm just not many people get that in april just backstrap you have to plan ahead of time you got to kill a deer in the fraser many people kill as many dears that's i got that so i got it all set up man he's got a couple deer you still that was fall fall willie we eating good in

in spring you plan they had baby while your uncle's out there poaching you pond with my little food with my food shrinker them brim were unreal and he's out there just poaching you fish away that's all right no i'm hey i'm glad to share my fish hey well i mean growing up we wore out harrison brim or that time ladies and gentlemen the brim and Really's ponds are the size of an oxygen backpack machine. The brimbor that's big. Driving down the road. Boy, how time's change on size references.

That thing was as big as my oxygen machine. Golly. I just figured we stole so many fish growing up of other people's ponds. I'm like, I feel like I've got to get back now. Clear conscience is important. Because I wore out every body of water that people own. in the vicinity. At least the river re-stocked

Harrison. You're the one that foot in the bill for all of yours. No, not Harrison's Little Pond. Oh, the Little Pond. Oh, the Little Pond. Oh, no. He caught every one of them.

So much, there was nothing left. He called every one. You could have sained it, and you would have got nothing. Just a puddle of water. It's over. We caught them all. You can catch every fish in a pond. You can.

We did. We did. It is possible. Hold on. He was a kid. were doing it too. Oh, of course I was about doing it.

He was a lookout. Hey, I've been doing it all my life, son. Yeah. So I was always that weird uncle running around with the kids. Yeah, right. I told you. Hey,

I tell you. I have never grew up. We're like, we're little kids. We can sneak into property. And then here comes out creepy size sneaking onto somebody's property in his army fatigues. He's the lookout.

Leaving a trail of Winston's behind. That's the reason I've got to have locks and machine. To me Winston's, boys. Don't smoke. Listen to what I'm telling you. Do not pick them up. If you pick them up, you're going to pick that up. That's right.

You're going to pick this up. You have trouble cleaning the fish. It's a bummer. Oh, my goodness. You ain't got you off. I wasn't expecting to laugh as much the first 20 minutes. Praise be, man. You know, I said I was looking forward to this part.

Yeah. We ain't even talked about your book yet. Oh. That's the, that's the best part. But we can get there now. So I brought mine so you could sign it though. Is that okay? Yeah.

Awesome. I've got, well, I've got a collection of Willie books that are all signed because everyone he's done, he's signed to giving me one. Honor, I threw it on the table. And he said, wait a minute. We just gave that to you yesterday. Uh-huh. I said, well, I read it.

Yeah. You read the whole thing? And I said, yeah. You've already read the book? Yeah, I already read it. What else he got to do? You know, you need to find something else to do. Uh-oh.

Wait, what? I'm out now. I got you on that. I can't believe you've already read the book. No, no, I enjoyed it thoroughly. There you go. He's a book reader. He went to give.

I mean, that was fast. Hey, any time a grown man. He'll read it him like one day. Hey, anytime a grown man goes back to his childhood and preaches the gospel. You're going to read it in the day? Yeah. It was good.

Well, I mean, it's an easy read. It is. Because I'm an easy guy. I was waiting more than this one. I mean, he gets in for me. New York Times bestselling author. I'm an easy guy. But I will say, I mean.

Can I say something? That was a labor. I want to say something. I was with you. for a lot of books, and there was always somebody else's name underneath. There was always a helper. This one just says Willie Roberts. That's it.

Just out there. I mean, I had some help, but, like, just, but I wrote that second. Like, that was. How long did you work on this? A couple of years. He wrote it. A couple of years. I made the duck calls for it.

A couple of years. Yeah, this one took, well, I just wanted to say it right. I just felt like I had to say it. And it was, I'd write. someone would be like, ah, just, you know,

I was trying to make it not confusing. Well, I'm shocked, okay, that you put that together that well. Oh. Weird compliment. But,

yeah, I'm serious. It's not like a Jay's compliment. It's like, that was surprisingly really good. Well, no, no.

I mean, I thought it wouldn't be okay, but I mean, it was actually. Well, he tells a story. Here's the thing. He tells a story.

Okay. And then he brings in the Bible and people he's met and tells their story and the Bible story. There you go. So it's pretty cool when you think about it.

And actually the whole, the premise of how to do it or how to, one way to try to share your faith starts with story. And so I'm telling the story. So I'm actually doing like the long version of how I would actually study the gospel of someone.

Because it starts with their story. I mean, that's where it starts. and then you go from there. So I thought Jesus taught the master class on this in John chapter four with the woman at the well. And so the first thing is he cared about the woman. It was a woman that he probably shouldn't have been talking to. They were from different parts.

They probably shouldn't have even been communicating. But Jesus showed her. He cared about her just by even talking to her. So she knew that. And then I think we make it way too. complicated so we're like well i don't know the bible well enough i don't know what to say i don't do you and he jesus asked this question this is the question where it started can i get a drink of water that's where it started oh so it's as simple as that then they got into her story

he starts telling her things like spiritual things she doesn't understand which is very understandable um and then they got into her story she gives him a little bit of her story which is what happens really, right? Even all of us, if we're honest, we're like, it's hard to tell your whole story because you're like, well, plus she had just met this guy. And so he's like, go get your husband. She's like, oh, I don't have a husband, which is true, but not the whole truth. And then Jesus, he went further into her story. And I think the reason he did that was because he knew she was going to have to deal with her past and with her story. It was a small town. She had had a lot of issues and so Jesus is like we're going to deal with this I'm still here I'm still talking to you

I'm not running away I'm not judging you and then bang she goes and tells her whole village I thought it was interesting she said you need to go talk to this guy he told me everything I ever did that should have been a negative like if I went and said hey yeah stay away from that person he knows everything he did like don't go talk to them you know but all of a sudden the negative was a positive. They all went. They all, uh, start, you know, they all became believers in Jesus Christ based on her testimony. Then they made him. So she, so a conversation that started with him asking her, can I get a drink of water, ended up in her whole town coming to the Lord. And she was the one who started that. So therefore she was the one who turned darkness and delight one conversation at a time.

And I thought Jesus, it was the most masterful way to do it. And so that's, that's a premise. that's where when we're talking about story, just read John chapter 4 and you'll see what can happen. And then I start with the chapter about Phil and Kay because really had they not obeyed the gospel and we saw that in the movie The Blind, if that hadn't happened, well, I mean, none of us would be sitting here. None of us would be sitting here. None of us would be. Our whole lives would be, I mean, it's affected everyone. The genealogy of it all. The listener to this podcast would not be listening to this podcast had that not happened because we know there wouldn't have been a duck commander at least i guess in the way that we've seen it we know there wouldn't have been a duck dynasty show i probably wouldn't have i don't even know if i'd be a believer uh certainly wouldn't have met corey because i met her at church camp church was a new byproduct of the version and so if you start thinking like i just did sadie's podcast so you're talking millions of people all the books the movies the tv show all that none of that happens had that One guy, not drove to that bar in Junction City, I was going to preach the gospel to Phil,

and Phil responded. So that's the power, just like John Chapter 4, the whole town was, that's what can happen when a conversation takes place. And it was just a simple conversation, like you said. But it's, and it's not just a conversation. It's a conversation that is looking for change. And so I think that, that's going to be the hard part, I think, for people to realize. So if I listen to someone's story,

but I don't have any answers. And I just go, well, okay, I'll pray for you. You know, that's a toughy. Right. I mean, and that's where we kind of get, right. But if you can actually have some answers, like the New Testament says, always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that you have. And so what are those answers?

And they're different. I mean, the answer is Jesus and it's the gospel. But there's all sorts of ways. Paul's writing saying, pray for me that the mystery of the gospel can come out of my mouth. more clearly. So just think about that. Nobody knew the gospel better than Paul. Why is he still having people pray for him that the mystery of it can come out even better?

Because it's more like an art. It's not just science. Like I can tell Martin one thing. I can tell Cy one thing. Y'all may respond completely different. Yeah, different. And the message is always worth the same. Like when Jesus talked to the woman at the well, that was not the way he approached Peter.

You know, Peter he said, hey, come follow me. I'll make you fishers of men. Well, he never said that to other people. You know, we're seeing all these different ways. And so the methods can change. The message is constant and the same, but the methods can change. And so if someone comes to me and says, for instance, like they say, I need to get baptized. Well, it's like, well, you're starting way past, you know, way past the point.

I can use that as a starting point. And we'll circle back to the gospel. We're going to get there. Someone may come and say, hey, man, look, I just got a deep. on Friday night. My wife kept me out of the house on Saturday and I need to change. Well, that would be a whole different conversation. They're ready for

repentance. They're ready for a change of life. But I can also talk down. Yeah, but I can also talk someone who's like, life is awesome. It's great. I'm a self-made person. I got everything I ever needed and what you got. You know, now, oh, how are we going to approach this one?

I may approach a person who says, I don't even believe there is a God, you know. What are we going to do there? So there's all these different ways. And that's why I try to break down some of these kind of barriers that we've put up for ourselves, which is, I don't know the Bible well enough. I'm too bad. I'm the last person needs to be telling anybody else about my faith. I'm not gifted at that. I'm shy. I'm not comfortable. There's all sorts of excuses we bring up. And the question is, in Matthew 28, when the Great Commission comes from Jesus, which is three things he told them to do as he was leaving.

make disciples, baptize people, teach people. If you're not doing, if you're not anywhere near any of those three things, then I would question what your mission is. Because he didn't say, try to go to church, try to be a good person. But there's a lot of people I know that's how they're trying to live their life. That's the mission. And the mission is not, it's not the right mission. Well, one thing you wrote out in your book, which I get wrapped up in sometime.

Okay, it's just where we're living in. And how screwed up it is. and you get you get uh off track you know on what you're actually trying to do because you're caught up in the world stuff well because you because you're got the word or you don't like people well i don't know i'm telling you the overall shape the world that's a legit that's a legit yeah yeah it all starts with caring about people and so i think now with technology social media the news everything the one of the problems i have is when i'm watching, I'm firmly realized there's a lot of people I just don't like.

Yeah. I don't like these people. I don't want to deal with these people. They're too much trouble. I can't stand what they're saying, what they're, you know. And the problem is if I don't care for them, then I'm not going to talk to them because I don't really want to talk to them. And I just rather talk to people that I think like me and agree with me.

And so we'll hang out with those people. And so that's the deal where we see the real marked difference in Jesus. as he was being crucified, who is he praying for? The people were actually doing it. Stephen, as he is being stone, who is he asking for forgiveness for? The people that are actually throwing the stones at him. So we see this big difference in,

I think how what we struggle with, which is like, I can't stand these people, and people in general. So there's a real lack of caring. And we see that a lot, right? Maybe not as much here where we live, but like in the bigger urban cities. and like someone will die.

Like they'll be dead or dying on the sidewalk. And you'll see a video of people just stepping over them. Walking by. Just walking past them. I got their air pods in. I don't have time to deal with it. Or somebody's getting, you know, robbed or something. It's like nobody helps or no, you know, it's just, it's super tragic.

But that's where you can get as a society and as a community where it's like, we just don't care. And I think all of us, you know, to be really honest, we're like, I got a lot of stuff going on in my life. I got my kids. I got me and mine. So, you know, last thing I need is someone who's screwed up your whole life. And now you're going to drag me into that mess, you know. And it's a real, it's a struggle. And so we have to care about people like we, like, hopefully like we realize Jesus

cared about us, you know, in our ugliness and and all that. And he still cared about us. So that's why I think that's where it starts. But I think that is. I think caring for people is a big part of it. There you go. That's deep there. That's deep.

deep in the woods. Welcome to the duck call room. Deep thoughts. Deep in the world. Deep thoughts. But it is how, I mean, like, and I know Johnny D. can attest to this because he traveled with you even more than I did. But when I started here, I was with you everywhere.

And I saw the midnight conversations. I was a part of the hot tub baptisms, the pond baptism. Like, you know, I mean, like, I was there watching you do everything that you say in this book. And myself sitting there, I'm like, why is he even talking this cat? Like, shouldn't we be out of here? Should we go bed? We got a long day tomorrow, man. And then you're up at 1 o'clock.

Next thing I know, it's like, hey, wake up video this. I'm like, okay. You know, and I'm just, because I mean, I was young. Like I was, in my world, I was, I was young, 20-something. But it's cool that you finally put all of that that we got to witness into writing. Because a lot of people don't really. Yeah, I really wanted that. I really wanted that down.

I wanted to capture that stuff. When I think about my life, like we talked about with Phil and Kay, had someone not done that, I was able to get the benefit. Now we're talking about a second generational benefit of some conversation that happened. So Bill Smith goes into a bar and preaches to a guy who, it's adversarial.

Phil does not want to talk to this person. And Bill Smith and a bar is just, man's up. Man's up, walks in the bar with his toot and his Bible. I mean, I don't know if I would, I mean, I was like, who, that's bold, you know. And knowing there's a good chance they'll go hit him right between the eyes. Like, knock him out. That's what I'm saying.

Just right between the eyes. It's a scary dude. He's still kind of scary. So it's like, I realize, like, I don't know that that conversation that I'm having that night, like what that may can do for their kids or what may can do for their grandkids or what God may turn their life. And so that is that motivation is like you just never know. And I've just got such a sense of while we're here on this earth,

we only have so much time left on this earth. And, you know, what would you do if you were still here? You know, when you're heaven, you're in heaven. So it's over. I mean, you're not here that you can do the work. So God has his workers and his kingdom here. And so, man, we just, I feel like we waste a lot of time. And I think we just got to have conversations with people.

And it's not that they accept. I mean, if they accept it, they accept. Some people are just going to say, no, I'm good. But at least I'm going to plant that seed. It's not up to you to get them to accept it. Yeah. All we got to do is sow the seat. That's it.

And the reason the Mayhaal trees planned those things eight years ago. It took eight years. It took eight years. I wrote about them in the book. I was like, they're supposed to be. they're supposed to be producing. Mayhotry, it's supposed to be throwing bears out. There's the fruit of the deal.

And look, one little adjustment. And so I think even by someone reading the book, if I can just spark somebody somewhere to spark and saying, you know what, I can do that. And they go out and they try it on their cousin. And the cousin comes to the Lord. Is it worth it? It's worth it.

Because you don't know how that guy. It is. Because you even talked about Rucker at the end of the book. Yeah. No, no. Which is wild what he's done. I was just fixed sake. I didn't know that, okay, they arrested him again after the first time he was incarcerated.

Yeah. And then they arrested him in Wastewa Pairs. Yeah, no, no. But here's what I mean. Technically, yeah. A friend of his, that will post the first one. He was arrested for murder. A friend of his confessed to the murder.

And he got out. And I said, whoa. what a friend. Yeah. And it started with Lyle Sinky. Yeah. Sitting around and saying, you need to hear about Jesus and then Grant Taylor and then Willie. Well, there were so many, yeah, John Dean, you were part of that too.

And there were so many people that were. And that's the point of the book as well. I think sometimes we think it's that one person who's supposed to do all this. Now, I make a big point in the book about pastors. Like we're like, well, the pastor's supposed to do it. The pastor's going to do it. I mean, pastors are fine. But like when the church.

So if you got a church, if you got a building of people, that's a thousand people, and you got one pastor who gets up and preaches once a week, if you wanted to get the word out on anything, would you rather have the one guy or would you rather have the thousand? I'll take the thousand every day. At the thousand, go out. When the church starts preaching the gospel, and not necessarily on Sunday mornings,

when it starts happening on Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday morning, when all this starts going out. And that's why I wrote the book is that, Even if you may get this book and you're sitting there in podunk wherever, you know, South Carolina or Iowa and the churches are not that great, but you can get this, you can become a gospeler, start converting people around you and people that know you,

and you can create that movement that can happen. And so it's not necessarily, this isn't hinging on whether or not you're in a fired up church group or not. You know, it really doesn't matter. When you can know that and break those down, start studying the word. And then this is just to kind of spark and say, this is how I do it. I've got seven passages that I generally, you know, seven's about where I keep it.

I don't even give people a lot more than that because that's about all I can handle it, one sitting. You know, it's just like you got a lot to process here. So there's seven little texts that I know. And if we need more, I'll go more. But sometimes the conversation will go an hour, you know, and I may have never met the person. but there's been people I've been working on for 20 years. 20 years. I'm still there.

They know where I'm at and we still talk about this all the time. So this high, it's not just stranger connection. It's not just always with some stranger. Start with the people you know, you know. One of the stories that really hit me was your friend that you would be trying to preach to God to him and he would give you the one about,

well, maybe you're judging me and, you know. he who had not seen cast the first stone. So he would always throw that in your face. So then one time you come up to him and said, well, oh, let me just see something. Yeah, and you asked him this question. And it always, it always starts, the story starts with a question. Yeah. And you ask him, how old are you?

Yeah. And he said, 54, why? He said, well, I see you, you got about 14 years left. You'll be dead. You're dead. And the guy looked at him, he looked at him like, whoa, really? He was 58, but yeah.

But hey, but here's the thing. He was sucking him Winston's like he used to do. That was one of the reasons I factored in. Well, no, no, because, but you got his attention. Some quick man. Yeah. I got his attention. For the first time, he didn't say.

He didn't throw it in your face. He didn't throw that back. Yeah. In fact, he said, in fact, he looked at me and he said, I've never thought about that before. which was unusual, you know, that a guy hadn't thought, he just hadn't thought that way. And because I talked about when you die, here's, let's just think about what's going to happen when you die. Like, they'll split your property up. Who's going to, I wonder who's going to, like, I was doing this with him.

It was such a kind of a morbid exercise, but it was like he needed to really think that. Oh, no, no. I just had to kind of shake him. No, no. Because I have to ask the question, like, okay, you know, when am I going to stop sending? When is, Cy Robertson going to stop sending it? I'm going to tell you with. Well, I die.

Yeah. It's over. I'm done. Yeah. There's nothing for me to look forward to. Nope. Too late. You know what I'm saying?

Right. Well, that's what I said, conversations that lead to change. So I had, I was very kind, this bill we're talking about, I was very kind to Bill. We hung out. We were friends for a long time.

Before he finally. I tried to, now I could have just said, well hey I tried and you know if he died I tried and the guy just would never you let it drop but I kept Paul's praying that the mystery like because I kept thinking wow I wish I could and then now I think the Holy Spirit was involved in that too to where I was sitting in that cargo and hmm and that just that kind of came out of my mouth and then once it started then he was like hey can you come talk to me more about this I'm like finally finally we got him to think about something outside Because I really cared about him.

I was like, you really need to listen and look at this to see if this is a good option. And it actually was. And then when he came and then it ended up being 25 more. But his whole family came to the Lord as well. So it really changed that generation. It'll change all those kids. It'll change all those kids on how now mom and dad think and grandma and grandpa think and how they act and how they did before. So that's the kind of stuff that can happen.

And those are the stories that can come forth. So what I find is that whether I'm talking about cooking, which y'all have all been with me and that. Jellies. Honey, hunting, the outdoors, like stuff that I'm passionate about that I get into, I learn about that. I want to know how to do that. And I love teaching other people the same way.

And if you come along, the more I do it, the more experience I get, then I become way better at it. You know, it's like, oh, I've been here. You know, I've shot this deer. I've seen these, you know, he does this. He does, ah, one time, you know, I missed here. It's the same way with sharing your faith. You'll start getting better and better at talking to people about their lives.

Because, hey, pretty much people, most of them are just, it's the same stuff. It's the same, you know, marriage problem, kids. Nothing is new. Nothing is new. It's, I mean, although sometimes people will throw stuff on me. I'm like, wow, you know, I haven't heard that, you know, like some particular damage or something that's happened to people. And so, but it's still sin. I mean, still in its nature, sin and where they're at or what's hanging them up or holding them up.

And y'all know that. I mean, sometimes you can just, it's one thing that can just be like, that's what I've been looking for. For Bill, it was that one thing I hadn't thought about being dead in 14 years. He just, that's, that's the thing that he had. Now, now you've cut his time short. And it got his attention. Got his attention. It got his attention.

And we talk about every way. Yeah, we talk. Did he text you the picture of me and him in the airport the other day? He maybe takes 17 selfies with him. Yeah, he's, I talked to him or one of his kids or somebody all the time, especially about the Bible, because they were kind of new to the actual Bible itself. And so they'll text me a question about the Bible.

So, you know, when you share your faith and when you become like a known gospel, just think about all the benefits that it has. It keeps you in the word because you want to know. Like when I cook a lot, I don't want to have to call Kay every time I like, how do I do this? Or like some of my chef friends. Like, so it keeps me studying, keeps me hospitable, keeps me thinking not about myself. It keeps me, it keeps me thinking about other people, which is huge in Christianity. Because a lot of us, we just get so inward.

We're like, I read the Bible and I have my quiet time so that I can be closer to God. And I get, but it's just a lot of eye and it's not like, where's this going out? Because I'm telling you, the message of Jesus was to get it out. me out of the way. You got it. Great. Now, who else? Let's go find someone else to tell this about.

Because the scripture comes to mind about what you're talking about it. It's better to give than to receive. Yeah. And it's rewarding. Well, the whole nature of Jesus on the earth was for who, not for him. It was like, if I asked you, you get more out of this than they did. Yeah. Well, Jesus makes it clear when he's talking to Zichias.

He gives you the, if you want to know why I'm here, Salvation has come to this house. For the son of man came to seek and save what was law. You know, it's about gathering up the loss back to him. And Jesus came for the ultimate sacrifice to be on this earth. Died, was killed by us, and then came back from the dead and said, all right, here you go. Here's a new way to do it. Now, who's going to tell them unless someone preaches?

I mean, read that, you know, read the word, get that in, read the stories, especially in the book of Acts, which is why I love the book. And they were just out there constantly. And notice the times that these are not Sunday morning times. These are middle of the week. Anytime. These are in the morning. Midnight. Midnight.

Jailer. Look at all the times. And when your life starts sounding like that, when it sounds more like the book of acts, you'll probably be getting way closer to the mission that you need to live other than like, I need to show up to church. You know, and I show up there because some about like our brains, we think, well, I got to go to church. Well, then I'm leaving church. Nope.

So now I'm leaving that. Now I'm going back to pretty much my record life and what I do for the other six days a week. Here's the time of personal experience. I grew up in the church. I was a heathen. Okay. I sat on the front few pole.

You know, all right, no. I wasn't, there was nothing religious about me. We was there every time the door opened. That didn't make me, I didn't get a relationship with Jesus at that time. Because when Jesus came, came down here and the first thing he's done he was sitting at table the sooners and everybody was all the religious people were saying what in the world is he doing well hey a healthy person don't need a doctor it's the sick that being a doctor that's it and you got to be around the

sick and plus i just like being really good at it and wanted to be better and better at it because it was it was helpful to people but I enjoyed when people would bring other people to me and that's what I'll happen somebody will bring somebody to that they really care about and they're like can you please help them like if we were going to like if you were going to bring somebody over for me to cook right and you were like oh I want you to cut and Willie's going to cook this you know whatever it is that I cook that you like oh deport that's a lot like my kids are all the time they're like hey dad I got a friend coming in and we want to come over and do this or we want to go hunt like you're like oh I want to go home with Martin because he's got, well, he's got a really good spot.

So it's like he's got the good spot and he can call the debt. Like think about all the things you bring to the table, you know, standing in a, you know, flooded cypress, you know, slew. And so when you think about that, you're like, that's awesome. You enjoy being that. Well, this is what I want to be able to, I want to say, hey, let's go. Wow, they got a lot of problems. That's fine.

We, you know, let's go and let's get out. I want to be good at that, you know. Or like a good doctor. Like if you had something wrong with you and you'd be like, oh, no, you've got to go see this doctor. They are the best at whatever it is that you have a problem. Or a counselor, whatever. You just start thinking about it. You brought it up, though, that not only to ask them questions that get in story and show that you care,

you've got to have the answers that they need. And Jesus is the answer. That's it. Yeah. So it's just. you're back to a water with the woman at the whale he asked for a drink of water

just regular water he said if you knew who you were talking to I would give you living water never be thirsty a good well give it to me Lord I don't have to come to this stupid well and draw this water here in the middle of the day I mean I got so many stories to tell you right now

and we're coming to a close I don't like it. And we never even got to talk. The one I wanted to tell us the man that flew halfway across here and then borrowed money or Willie had to borrow money to buy groceries because he forgot his wallet because of his beliefs. But I mean, the guy loaded up and just on a whim on a random Thursday or I don't know what I had a way. Say that for another podcast.

I know. That's what I'm saying. Joey. Like Joey. Yeah. Joey. I mean, like that's what I'm saying. Like talking about meeting people.

they are and I mean because I was just looking for a conversation you know like it was just a bizarre it was a bizarre turn of events that I mean that's a whole that is that story is almost a whole hour I saw a guy the I sat on a plane recently and I was I had my app and I'm writing on I was doing a sermon on this book and I'm talking about preaching the gospel to people who aren't like you because I was saying about the one at the well and I was like God and I was trying to think like all right who are people that I've talked to that weren't. So I'm thinking of stories, you know. I looked at my right and this person beside me, I'm not judging.

I just, I just assume this person is nothing like me. Visually, I could see this person's not in a dear stand. This person doesn't like completely opposite. If you just put us beside each other, they'd be like, this is one way of life and this is another way of life. Mm-hmm. And I thought, well, she was. I got one right here. And so I just, I closed the iPad.

And I put it up, I laid down, I said, where are you heading? You know? So I started the conversation. Where are you heading? You know? He's like, I'm going home. So we start talking. So at the end of the conversation, I give him my phone number.

Now, what was funny was when I got back and I told my some of my family and friends that were like, you gave him your phone number? Like, you can't just give your phone number. Yeah. He's got two of them, though. Yeah. So the thought was. the thought was, well, you can't do that.

But then Jesus was that woman through well, remember when the disciples came back, they were up, they were like, why are you talking to her? Why are you talking to her? So it was the same reaction like, you can't give a guy yourself.

I'm like, what if he's a crazy person? And he starts calling you out of time. I said, well, he may be the one that needs to be worried because I'm after him with the gospel. So he may have to block me because he's like,

I don't want to hear what this guy's got to say. you know and so those are the things we do the xikeas moment those are the things jesus invited himself over to a dude's house that nobody liked like and he shows up he's like i got to come to your house and so i haven't been maybe i have invited myself to someone's house and just showed up oh that generally happens to you i could have but like you know what i'm saying those are the kind of moves that i think you start you're making you got to make moves that are not just the normal i keep my head down i keep my faith to myself because it's personal to me and then I don't, you know, I don't say anything.

You keep, if you're going to live your life and make moves like that, it's not the book of acts. It's a different way to live. If you want to, you want to be a gospel, or you're probably going to, well, I know this. If you're going to make disciples, if you're going to baptize people, we're going to teach people. Every one of them require one thing, you've got to open your mouth and talk. Every one of them, you're going to have to talk. You don't baptize people without talking. You don't make disciples without talking. And you certainly don't teach without talking. So if you're going to live your life like that, then you have to start figuring out how to do that. And so I go through it in the book. I explain that to you. It's like, well, there's no way I can

do that. Well, can you ask for a drink of water? Are you married? It'd be like me saying, Hey, Martin, are you married? Is that a weird question? No. No, it's not a... Now, here's what's weird, though. If he tells me, I don't know. I hope so. I hadn't thought about that in a long time. But that's what I hear when I ask people to their relationship with Jesus. That's what I hear. I'm not sure. I hope I do. But if I actually were married, it would be like, you're not sure? Like, I don't know.

I hadn't seen her in a long time. I had thought about her since I was like in my teens. What? I met this girl at church camp once. Maybe we're still married. So that's, so I give you some ways to try to figure out how to do that and how to walk through. There's just a handful of verses.

There's some questions you can ask. It's not the only way. There's tons of ways you can. It's just one way. And I'll show you some stories where it's worked. and it's just one way. But if we can just spark our conversation, spark you,

you know, trying to be better in that, then I think it'll be helpful. And I think you get them, you get them interested. Yeah. And one thing you did was you laid out, anybody can do this.

It's not the past, you don't have to be. Bill Smith wasn't that, I mean, by the end of his life, he was super impressive and knew everything. When he walked into that bar, he was a young dude walking into a bar.

He was a pastor. And so we're, and I kind of are like, look, wait for the pastors, you know, but I've seen this over, which I have to, I mean, around here, because there's, there's people who just go out and they, they're good at that. But there's, hey, man, there's other ways to do this as well. There's, especially with social media, the stuff you post and what you can, but I find that you

have to get in. Like, when I started teaching this class, I was teaching a local church. And a lot of people walk in, be like, we're just going to memorize some version. You know, we got to learn the Bible. I'm like, well, yeah, you know, it's like, yeah, I don't know, like, this class. I don't want to do that. One guy told me, said, Willie, I don't have the gift of reading the Bible.

I said, that's not a gift. That's just a discipline. You know what I'm saying? You don't have the gift of that. Cool thing. Cool thing today, you can listen to it.

I read the Bible so that I can, I'm gaining from it, but so that I can like try to explain it to someone else. Back to my three principles, making disciples, baptize people and teaching people. That's what Jesus said to do. So I,

I'm going to live my life where I'm at least around those somewhere around one of those three or all those three. That's where I want to be. And that'll help keep me on mission to live my entire life in a better way than if I didn't do any of those things. Amen. Can I tell a quick, quick story? Just because it goes with this. I got a buddy named Jay. You're going to love this story.

He walks in the store one day and I can tell. I'm like, this dude ain't here to buy nothing. I don't know what he's. And he said, I had a dream. I got to tell people about it. I was like, what is it? He flies helicopters for an ambulance. Like, he's the man.

He said, I've dreamed I died, and I met Jesus, and I couldn't stop crying. And I was so confused. And I don't know why I was crying, because I know I'm a Christian. I met Jesus. And I looked at him and said, why am I crying? And Jesus said, look behind you. Who'd you bring with you? And it changed everything.

And he about baptized somebody in the Shiner Tank that day. He was like, I need to tell this guy. And he started in on him. And I was like, he's fired up. But it's true. You don't want to get to heaven, be lonely. Bring everybody you can. And that's what this book empowers people to do.

And you can do it. You can tell people about Jesus. And this book is a great resource. And in case y'all thought, I was just kidding about reading it in a day. As I sit here and look at his copy of Gospeller. There is a beard hair about three quarters of the way through sticking out. Is that your bookmark?

well if you need people to read something just fine to retire I'll give you a good opinion on even though this ain't Phil's podcast but uh I'm doing theirs tomorrow but um Phil said well there was a best explanation of how to share the gospel

I think I've ever read and then this is what's funny coming from Phil and he goes, and you were so nice about it. And you were so nice. He'll may be a little abrasive. That's what makes him him, you know. I've enjoyed being here today. Yeah, absolutely.
