Starting point is 00:00:06 How do we start? You say, like Martin says, and we're back. And we're back in the duck call room. And today in the duck call room, we actually have the real duck call room in here. The real one? Yeah, the real one. Why am I in here? The ones that's building a duck call.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And why is I in here? I'm talking about on this side. I'm building duck calls. Because me and God would never work and do this together, but we build the duck calls together. Every day. We actually do that every day. Because I can't believe it. What?
Starting point is 00:00:40 Did Phil Robertson actually take a day off from duck hunting? Well, here's how it happened. What? I've been hunting down there 23 years, I guess. And he has never missed a day other than a Sunday morning. Unless he was dying right now from sick. Right. So this has been a struggle to kill ducks this year for some of the summer.
Starting point is 00:01:05 reason. And I just point, Blake, no, there's no ducks in the area. It's kind of strange for this late. And I asked him, I said, Phil, I sure would like a day off. When you like to sleep in tomorrow, he looked at me, he said, you know what? Sounds good to me. I'm shocked. That's never happened.
Starting point is 00:01:27 I didn't believe when man told me. I said, no, this didn't happen. You're putting my leg. I slept until 8 o'clock yesterday. It was nice. Oh, it was yesterday. Yeah. No, we're back at it this morning.
Starting point is 00:01:38 We killed one witty. Oh, they kill one today. Oh, hey, if you give him a break, you can kill one dog. He was a stray. A strike. Let it rest. Oh, man, it's been tough, but, you know, Phil, Phil's going to go no matter what, because he don't want to. He's got the phobia.
Starting point is 00:01:53 They don't want to miss it, you know, in case it happens. But he took a day off. Yeah, he did. Are we positive he didn't just go by himself? No, he took a day off. I'm thinking back, okay. and I remember, okay, we all went to, that's when we hunted the creek up there,
Starting point is 00:02:11 Sopper's Creek, second slew. You know, and he said, boys, I just, he was throwing up. He said, I just can't go today. He was literally, I mean, every five minutes, he's throwing up, or he'll have went. When was this? This has been all good grief 15 years ago.
Starting point is 00:02:31 They said it, and he said he was laying in his head. In longer than that, sir. Well, maybe 20 years. But anyway... Longer than that, sir. Whatever. But anyway, he would say he was in his bed, laying there, and that once in a while,
Starting point is 00:02:42 and he had just a bucket that he could puke in. And he was... In here. Get here. Boop, boop, boop boop. Yeah. He said... All them tail coming there.
Starting point is 00:02:51 They're tearing them up. I'm surprised. That's the last time, I'm serious. No, that's the only time I ever heard him say, no, I ain't going. Yep. I had to take him to the hospital in New Mexico. He had like a, this was way back, I don't know how many years.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Oh, it's been a while, yeah, because it was six degrees out there on the Rio Grande, yeah. I took him to the emergency room. He was just, I mean, he had a hundred and something fever. He walked in the emergency room. I went in there and told him he stayed in the truck. It's late at night. He walked in there in his insulated underwear. That's all he had on.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Shirt? He walked in there. He looked like a. an unidentified creature. And the doctor looked at him and went, whoa. Hey, this was one of them in trouble. What is it?
Starting point is 00:03:44 He was literally hunting with a hundred and something favorite. But now that you brought that up, that's one of the coolest duck hunts I've ever been. It was. Okay, because you've got to understand. We're on the real Grand River. You can wait across it. It's just waist deep.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Hey, you'll sink. And hey, ducks everywhere. Okay. And look, 4.30 in the morning we're throwing decoys out. And we look up. Planet start explode. No, no, yeah. We look up and we see in 45-minute time frame,
Starting point is 00:04:18 we see 17 different shooting stars, burning up planets, whatever you want to call them. We've seen them. That hunt had an impression on you. No, no, no, no. Do you got to understand something? There was one come over. Oh, it had an impact on me because, hey, there was one that come over.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Okay. Just a giant, it looked like the sun going across the sky at dark. It was awesome. Yeah. And look, it gets right above us, and guess what? A little piece breaks off of the tail of it. Now there's a big one and a small one going across. And Phil said, boys, I don't think y'all are understanding what you're looking at here.
Starting point is 00:04:59 And we said, what are you telling me? He said, that is a giant planet, probably just bigger than Earth, just one we're standing on looking up at, burning up going across the sky. And then somebody said, I wonder where it's going to hit. Hopefully not the Rio Grande. But look, you've got to think about this. 17 different things going across the sky burning up and falling. Wait, size told that story about 18 times.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Oh, no, no. When you get out there, when you get out there. You know, that's impressive. I don't care what you say. There are some places on the earth that you can see the stars and planets a lot better. Afghanistan was one of them. Oh, I bet you it was. It's the same way over there when you go west in Utah and all them states over.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Afghanistan, I guess, is west and east. Yeah. It depends on which direction. It depends on west far enough if you're going to. If you go west, you'll finally get there. If you go east, you'll finally get there. That's one crazy thing about that country. The aesthetics of it all were pleasant.
Starting point is 00:06:13 And then the sun went down, you started seeing those tracers burn across those mountains. You're like, okay, it's not that pretty. I remember that in Vietnam. Right behind the husko. We had a chopper get shot down, and then the gunship above the chopper that was up there where you couldn't hear him
Starting point is 00:06:32 a cobra. It was just a red line as, I mean, out of sight coming down from the, you know, space. Just, boar! And then you heard, bha-oh! What was that last point?
Starting point is 00:06:47 No, I ain't to say it again. That's funny. But, hey, pretty wild. Hey, that night, that morning did impress me, okay? I believe. It really did it. I had a last in print. We locked the truck.
Starting point is 00:07:00 The truck got locked, remember? Oh, yeah. And we had. I think he locked the keys in the truck. We're calling and talking about, Harry, you need to call OnStar? Yeah. And they said, well, what do you want us to do? And we said, hey, look, we're out here.
Starting point is 00:07:16 We're in Albuquerque, north of Albuquerque, Mexico, on the Rio Grande River, you know of our location, okay, and talking about you have to unlock our pickup. It's locked up. Yeah, they said stand back from the vehicle. Hey, and the keys are in it. And they said, step back from vehicle, please. And you heard, blz, click. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:40 That was weird. I said, they said, stand back, well, they shot a beam to unlock it. That's why it was, zh, pique. Oh, on star. Yeah, on star. It didn't actually make the noise. Yeah, it did. You heard.
Starting point is 00:07:57 It said, hey, stand back from the vehicle, please. And it was... And we got in the truck. Got in the truck left area. What do you think shot that beam down there? Hey, it ain't no telling us. Probably some deal up there in space. There's the unlocked gun.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I just know, hey, they gave it the location. Okay, that's why... Yeah, we're in the world now. It's unreal. Do you realize we actually watch part of the Iraqi War? We do. On CBS.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Where? Yeah. You know, there's a guy standing there saying, this is so-and-so reporting and you hear. And there was a cruise missile was going behind him. Well, guess what? Hey, that cruise missile was going to a target. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:47 And it was on TV. We watched it explode on the little cross-air. We watched it live. Yeah. That's crazy. That's insane. You know what? That's where we're at.
Starting point is 00:08:59 folks were in the insane. That was 20 years ago. Yeah. Well, I was saying, I was like, more. No, it's longer than that. Yeah, 25. Yeah. That's great.
Starting point is 00:09:10 You know, the Wild Wild West. Where is everything going? It was mild compared to what we got going on. Oh, yeah. Everything now. Just assume you're on camera at all times. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:21 That's right. Oh, they're watching. Yeah, they're always watching. I've known that. Okay. You got one of them doorbell cameras? No, no, no, no. See, hey, I believe in the Almighty, okay?
Starting point is 00:09:33 His video is running 724-365. Okay, you ain't ever, no. You ain't getting away from that. Hey, you ain't getting away from that. You're always on. Hey, that one's inside your head, too. I know, I'm glad. I'm glad I got his blood covering that screen where people can't see what I've done.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Hey, that's right. Well, on that note, You're going to take a break? Let's take a break. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. All right, look, springtime is here. It's warming up.
Starting point is 00:10:09 You know what that means? That means more outside cooking. And y'all know, we love to eat beef around here. And that's what because of our friends over at Triedells beef makes such a good product, baby. Ain't it good? It's so good. Our friend, Sao Robertson would say, buy on the grill! Look, before we got Triedells, getting ready for a cookout, man,
Starting point is 00:10:29 somebody had to run the grocery store, do all the things, grab whatever was left in case you were late in the day. And you never really know where that beef comes from. But with Tritails beef, we skip the grocery store and do it a different way. Tritails comes from a family ranch out in Texas. They're a fifth generation American ranch. So they've been at it for a while. Now, look, the beef comes straight from their ranch and other ranchers they work with who raise cattle the same way. Their steaks are properly aged and shipped straight from the ranch to your door.
Starting point is 00:10:57 We threw a couple of ribbons on the grill. Look, salt, pepper, garlic, hot fire, that's all you need. Look, because I tell you what, when the beef comes from people who raise cattle for a living, you can taste the difference. The tenderness and the flavor are fantastic. So if you're stocking the freezer for grilling season, go check out Tritails beef. I know in size case Christine loves it, which is just a, she doesn't eat meat. She ain't a big meat eater, folks.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Yeah. Just go to trybeef.com slash. That's trybeef.com slash. Stuck. Support ranch families and eat some dang good steak. So, you know, hunting season is winding down. Winding down. We're in the last week of duck and deer season.
Starting point is 00:11:40 It's over. I know, but the only one I was even concerned with this year, a hundred is first split, but after that, no. Well, you're going to. I took it your advice. Yeah. Your advice was, you called me on the phone and said, hey, I said, what did y'all kid today?
Starting point is 00:11:55 He said, one. That's okay He said don't anybody getting out of bed I said you got that Roger Roger that I ain't been for about
Starting point is 00:12:03 Roger that Yeah So I ain't been in two weeks I ain't neither Then he said hey Look I've been fishing You need to come with me
Starting point is 00:12:11 Okay He's been at your stand You need to kill it I said I'll be there bailed on That's it They got Killed the goal 48
Starting point is 00:12:19 How many Y'all Y'all have harvested Oh yeah Oh no no What have you That's the greatest thing Look
Starting point is 00:12:25 Stone is our management man. Yeah, down on Fields property. Fields, Willys, and Jasons for deer. He plants all the food plots, okay. He fills all the feeders up, all the protein feeders, all this stuff. He puts out rice bran and all this stuff, okay. And then he puts out our camera, trail cameras, okay? They take pictures and, hey, he forms what he calls.
Starting point is 00:12:55 our hit list. That's it. Okay. After all of this is collected, all this data is collected. Yeah. And he makes a hit list. Well, we had 11 on the hit list.
Starting point is 00:13:07 11. Yeah. We got one more. It's 12. Okay. But we've already, you know, and here's what I like about it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:16 We've killed all 11 of them bucks. Yeah. Okay. These are five years and older. Actually, six, there's six, six. Six and older.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Six and older. Anyway, six years and older. Okay, BK's six point was like nine and a half. That's an old deer. That's a old deer like you. That's what? Your 10 point was like 10 years old, wasn't it? They said he was eight.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Okay, yeah, okay. All right, they ain't age behind yet. Okay, but anyway, you got to think about that. We put 11 deer on the hit list, okay, and here's the cool part, like I said. Not one person is killed. It's gone takes different people. okay and says okay here's the one okay that's him poppy yeah reed got a good one okay Willie got a big buck old dusty bowing yeah I got good eight point BK got six point he killed a big
Starting point is 00:14:09 10 point you know David Martinez just killed you're like are you the historian down there no no I'm just saying he's rattled them off well no no he keeps the diaries I love it okay because look every time we go now, like the other afternoon after I shot my eight point, I went back two days later, it was after another one, okay? But he didn't show up, okay, but two big pretty eight points did show up. One of them was two-year-old, one of them was three-year-old. Yep.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Okay, now we're going to give him about three years, and then we're going to kill both of them suckers. Because we know where they're coming out. They'll be five and six years ago. They'll be added to the, so the hit list, that's the, I've come to realize that when I just started deer hunting again four years ago. Because we're all duck hunters. You know, nobody cared anything about the deer except Willie. But the potential for the raise nice bucks down there was there.
Starting point is 00:15:12 So I just decided four years ago, I said, hey, let's try it, see what happens. Manage it, let's see what happened. But the fun part to me is working the land, watching the crops grow, you know naming the deer giving them names you're you're an excellent namer of deer and not only that then like every time you go okay you know what you're looking for well no no you get to see all these big pretty bucks running around on the property yeah yeah that you're gonna shoot okay that you're gonna shoot because i enjoyed watching them too you know we got uh we got what four doze out there i think and one buck or
Starting point is 00:15:52 two bucks. Yeah, it was two bucks. A button head and a little four point, you know, young deer. He's probably a two-year-old maybe. We're watching them. Then I said, right there, right there. Well, you never, you learned so much by just watching. Well, no, no, because hey. What you never did before because you was shooting everything to come out. And he was a young, eight-point young, he was real spooky. He would go behind them, you know, then I looked at you. there's big red Big red
Starting point is 00:16:25 Big eight point I said he's three year old Big red I said oh man give him about three years and you're talking about a stud Oh yeah So but but used to
Starting point is 00:16:36 So the main thing that's changed Your work in the land And people aren't just shooting Every deer they All right We've got one problem We got one problem And it happens to be with the land owner
Starting point is 00:16:49 Oh no he's all in now Well I know I know No, but hey, it's a work in progress. Yeah. Okay. It was fill every time as quick as we do. Two deer that we said, hey, do not shoot these two deer.
Starting point is 00:17:04 That's the first thing. That's what happened. Boom, boom. Yeah. Both of them shoot, okay. Well, I tricked them yesterday, sigh. Do what? That old deer that Reed shot Jason's son, Reed.
Starting point is 00:17:18 He shot a, man, that deer is seven years old. giant body, you know, for this area, 240 pound deer. In full rut, gutted him, cut his head off, washed him off real good, hung him in the cooler for 25 days, and then peeled the hide off of him, cleaned him up real good, and I cut up one of them backstraps and tenderized them and fried him up for Phil and Jace yesterday. And Phil said, boy, that's as tender as I've ever put in my mouth. And you said, and he's, hey, he's a seven-year-old buck.
Starting point is 00:17:53 That's what I told him. I said, that's that old buck read killed. He said, nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. I ain't going to believe it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:02 And James was chewing on him when I said that. And he just stopped chewing. They said, well, you made him edible. Yeah. And Jepico said, that's way more than edible. That's good. Yeah. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:18:15 But it takes, you got to age them. And I even brined those overnight. and salt water made them a little bit better. But man, they were tender, just melting your mouth. It was good. But now we set out to harvest 11 old bucks, and we got all of them. And accomplished you. And is there a new one?
Starting point is 00:18:38 Well, one showed up from the neighbors of the day, but. Frank the tank. Frank the table. Frank the day. But I only got three days to get him, and he only comes out of night. He's going to be tough to get him. But it's something. about when you're having a hit list and when somebody on the hit list shows up you you get excited
Starting point is 00:18:55 you know like this isn't just i mean you named eight people how many people taken from the hit list well wellie's son-in-law old old which one jack a cut jacob he killed one he killed a hitlister and then you got uh my boy david martinez martinez held his first year in 30 years at 420 yards no that was at 40 yards Oh, I thought you said 40. You lied to me. No, I did. Yeah, you did. You told me 420.
Starting point is 00:19:26 I said 40. I've been telling everybody 420 yards. You told the whole story on Monday about David signing up a 420 yards. You said, you made a step to say 40. You told me 420. It was 40. Uh-oh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Fact checker. Where's your fact checker at? Back you got read. You got read, he shot one, a bull of frog. Uncle Si, me, nurseman. Chad's a cold maker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:56 If he's got a bad one that we don't want, you give it to the man that saved you life. Tell Chad, hey, Chad, you need to kill this one. I'm serious. He goes wherever he goes. That deer walks out there and Chad killed him. He's a cold maker. He's a cold man.
Starting point is 00:20:10 Yeah. Not even where you see him. Yeah. You know, he's at this stand. He said, okay, I'm good. I'll get it. Don't worry about it. Eight or nine different people.
Starting point is 00:20:20 That's awesome. That's the cool part about it. Is everybody, you know, Stone shares as well? I'm on a mission to be more like my friend, Jeff. That was your New Year's resolution. Selfless. And I'm the same way. I've got on board on that.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Because human beings are inherently selfish to some extent. Like, I'm going to get mine. You've heard that before. I'm trying to be the opposite of that. Well, go ahead and tell everybody where your best copy spot is. Best crop you? No. I thought we were trying.
Starting point is 00:20:52 No. All right. We're talking of a deer hunting. Okay. Well, on that, though. We ain't given a croppy spot. We won't tell anybody that, and we'll take our. That's another thing that me and B.K., his daughter do.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Okay. I'll get on them, croppies. And it's almost time. But we're going to take another break, and we'll be right back after this. What time, boys. It's almost time. Well, you've been going after the fish during hunting season. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Me and sigh, I've been laying low. Casting or jigging? Casting. I like casting. Well, I've been doing both, but I like casting better. Do you spider rig? Yeah. I still do it. That's what my dad does, and it's just funny to me when people are out there with like eight poles out and four. I don't think I could handle eight. I just do four.
Starting point is 00:21:47 You miss a lot. When I'm by myself. fighter rigged, in my humble opinion. It's a humble one. Well, no, no. Because I would rather to cast them because you're actually ridden it, you hit them and the little drag to it. Yeah, well, that depends on, that depends on where you're at and what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Jigpole, if you're just sitting there like that around dumps and stuff, just, so what you missed that, you know, you miss that was. You missed the thump. Yeah. You just look at the pole of it. Yeah. Then you pick it up.
Starting point is 00:22:23 Yeah. But it's something to have it in your hand and they hit it. Oh, yeah. Especially when they're hungry. Oh, yeah. You know what? You like to take it out of your hand. Talking about that, I realized something last year that I didn't realize.
Starting point is 00:22:38 What did you realize? I had my arm. I was long lining. And my rack in the back of my boat, I can set my arm on the pole. And that fish thumped. I said, I just thought they come up there and got it, you know, and just got it. Oh, no, no. They come up there and hammered that thing.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Yeah, they made dough popper. I figured they just grabbed it and went. They do. They did. They did. Because it's moving, you know. They do. I just thought they just come up there and got it.
Starting point is 00:23:05 If you go back to old school with cane pole and court, okay, you throw air and you get on a copy, you've got those that just don't. because I had a place that I done outside of Fort Polk on Bundick Lake. I did it now under a lantern. And look, here's the way they bit. You throw a shiner out there about four foot deep with a court, and all they'd do was they'd come up and just, and the cork would go about that point of the water.
Starting point is 00:23:38 I was talking about long line. I know they do it to that. All they do is sit there until you put. put a little tension on it. Mm-hmm. Or they come up when they're doing it and being sneaky, they don't hit it.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Yeah. They'll come up and your car could be sitting there upright and then it'll lay over. Yeah, they come up. That way they come up and they grabbed it and moved up. Yeah, you better set the hook
Starting point is 00:24:03 because he's there. Then it's... You know what to... That's why when you're spider rigging, you miss that, boom. I like to... to feel them knocking. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I've had bass when you're worming it. You know, throw it out and let it go to the bottom. You pick up, make it come off the bottom and do this, and then they hit it. Well, hey, I've had a mountaineer took it out, took it away from me. I like the lost rod and real. So this just, wham! It's golly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:35 You know what the fish said when he swamming to the bank? No. Damn. Damn. Another favorable one. one boy. Johnny G. He's full of them.
Starting point is 00:24:48 He's full of them, boy. He's got them all. Talking about that, look, hey, there were two divers. It was in Kentucky. Big Lake, Kentucky. I don't know what, like Kentucky Lake. No, it may be it may be in. But anyway, look, they got the twin tanks on their back.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Oh, yeah. And they're inspecting the dam. Yeah. So they go down, you know, and they got a big light thing turned on, y'all, and they're, actually they just go down so they touch it and then they turn the light on and start you know checking checking the dam make sure it ain't cracking or whatever I don't want that job and no no and they both they both look at each other you know and he said yeah yeah and they used standing like you tell me I feel weird like I'm being watched yeah well they turned around and shine the light the lockness well hey no no when they turn around and shine the light the lockness well hey no no when they turn and shine the light, there's six catfish, okay? And they're, hey, the bubbles, they started, they started slowly going up. Yeah. Okay, because, you know, they come walking out of the water and
Starting point is 00:26:00 take it off their tank. The guy was there, and he said, you ain't been down but five minutes. What's the problem? And they said, uh, we're done. And he said, oh, you couldn't expect it. You couldn't expect five feet of it in that length of time. He said, oh, we're not an inspected. anymore we're done where did you hear this story no no no no it was in a newspaper i've heard this story since i was okay look yeah yeah what they saw was they saw like whoa six catfish that could swallow them and them two big tanks do you think a catfish would eat a human yeah if they're big catfish eat anything they eat anything.
Starting point is 00:26:43 But anyway, it was six of them behind them because they just felt, I feel like something watching me, when they did turn light on them, there was six them bad big boys. Okay, and they said, hey, they could have swallowed me and these tanks hold. He said, so that's why, no, I ain't going back down there.
Starting point is 00:26:59 But I did see on Amazon River they caught one. Big yellow catfish, yellow and brown. It took three men, they hold them in shallow water. one's got his head one's got the middle of him and one's got his tail okay and i'm telling you this thing was from me to you you know what i've looked three grown men big men are holding this thing in their arms and i mean hey you know this thing i'd beg around you know what i've learned doing this podcast sigh never forgets an animal oh no no no whether he saw it in person or in a picture Oh, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Last night, no, no. Last night, they don't know what it is. Okay, and this was on the news. Some lady goes outside, it's up north somewhere in Pennsylvania, I think. And she hears something, and it's under her porch. Well, this lady loves animals. So, whatever this thing is, because look, they don't even know what it is yet. What does it look like?
Starting point is 00:28:00 It looks like a, what is that, tubicuba or whatever it is? Cuba. Obviously. Look, the thing, the thing, they don't know what? Wouldn't that just look like a dog? Huge years. Look, here's what was funny. See if you can find it.
Starting point is 00:28:11 He's got one blue eye, and I think the other may be blue, but I think it was blue and brown. And it was weird looking. They don't, you know, they're trying to get a, you know what the people that work on dogs? Veterinar.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Dog catcher. Yeah, no, no, veterinarian. Groomers. Yeah, no, though, they're trying to figure out what it is. They don't know what the animal is? They don't know what it is. I think it's some type of coyote
Starting point is 00:28:39 Because he's got big or weird Probably a coyote Eat up with a mage Well it may be But he looks horrible He looks horrible But that was on the news last night They called him
Starting point is 00:28:48 Well that woman brought her in the house To warm him up He looked like he was cold So she got in the house You get eat doing things like that I cannot find that Well it was on the news Don't bring animals in your house
Starting point is 00:29:00 I ain't making it up Wild hand It was on the news Type in Pennsylvania woman I typed it in, and I got this article. Driver, who stopped to help when truck carrying 100 lab monkeys crashed in Pennsylvania. That's what it is. And put her hand in one of the cages says she now has cough and pink eye after one of the monkeys hissed in her face.
Starting point is 00:29:23 There's monkeys on the loose in Pennsylvania. Oh, they're on loose in Pennsylvania. You heard it here first. You know, Dan saw a monkey down on Phil's property. Hey, what, a white one would blackface? A black monkey with a white face. Black monkey with a white face. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Hey, and guess where he saw it? He saw him in a prosymmetry. That's right. In the top of a prosemetry. That's a good place for a monkey. Except, hey, Stone went by the next day going hunting. Okay. And he seemed the same monkey, but it wasn't a monkey.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Raccoon? Possom. Possom. It was a black possum. It was a big posse. With a white face. Black possum with a white face. No monkey.
Starting point is 00:30:04 No monkey. Well, if you're in Pennsylvania, and you watch out for the monkeys. There's three of them still on the loose. Watch out for the monkeys. The other hundred were apprehended. Yeah, don't touch them. You'll get pink eye.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Whatever that thing is, I hope they do a follow-up because I want to know what it is. You need to find that article. Yeah. I saw that. I actually looked at the news feed the other day. You looked at the news? They got a thing on your phone and it says news, but let me tell you something. It ain't news.
Starting point is 00:30:32 That's news, but it ain't news. Preach, page. It's idiot. What's the word I'm looking for? It's just nonsense. It's idiot. It's nonsense. Aerial synchronicity.
Starting point is 00:30:44 You want a good laugh. Look at the news feed on your phone. What are they talking about? Oh, my. Just all. If whatever comes up. It is real. It was on the news.
Starting point is 00:30:56 I'm dead. Woman rescues animal and no one can work out what it is. I found it. Oh, no. He found it. I tell you, I didn't make this. This is better than the monkey. I didn't make this up.
Starting point is 00:31:07 I'm trying to find a picture. And right after this break, we'll tell you what it is. We're going to bring it up here, once J.D. Founder. I think it's a deformed coyote with mange. Yeah. Really do. Because he looks hard. I typed in unidentified and it said animal found in Pennsylvania.
Starting point is 00:31:31 There you go. Oh. Oh. Oh, he, ugh. What is it? Put it on the train. That sucker's ugly now. I'm trying.
Starting point is 00:31:38 They're trying. I'm trying. He's gross looking. Yeah, he's not pretty. Yeah. I told you. Look at the stupid eyes, blue. Oh, it went away.
Starting point is 00:31:47 Oh. But at least it's got a nice leopard skin. It's a deer. What in the world? It's a dare. I don't know where that comes from. That ain't him. That's him.
Starting point is 00:31:56 That's a giant chihuahua. Oh, he's lading on a leper skin. It might be a chubicon. Well, whatever it is, it has the man. It has the mange badly. It's a coyote. I think it was a deer is about that long. You think it's a coyote?
Starting point is 00:32:12 Dear people of Pennsylvania. They didn't identify it yet. All I know is it's a weird looking animal. It is blue eyes. Both of them were blue. I thought one. I told you one. I think that was just the reflection of the camera.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Nope. No. No. That looks like water. Unidentified animals. Hey, I have something I want to talk about. What? I had two young men come in the store the other.
Starting point is 00:32:38 day and they said they really like the podcast and they really like when coach stone uh-oh is on the podcast yeah and they told me of have we covered the games you used to play with n pete coach stone i don't know we might have does anybody here know the no of coach ston i think the people need to hear about coach stone's days well i'll tell you oh back before uh i got the duck call gig before j scott famous quit working which I'm glad he did. That's how he got it. It worked out for you.
Starting point is 00:33:13 It worked out great for me. Before I did that, I was coaching at the local middle school, you know, football, basketball. Pretty good gig. You know, had PE class, you know. And I used to play dodge ball when I first started. But somebody got hurt. You know, the principal called me in there. The parents, yeah, yeah, you know, griping, complaining.
Starting point is 00:33:41 Oh, yeah. And so the principal said, okay, you can't play Dodgeball anymore. I'm like, so. Real, so the next day, we played Slaughterball. Oh, there you go. So these two guys came here. So I changed the name from Dodgeball to Slaughterball. Okay, well, about a month later, somebody got hurt.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Principal calls me in there. Look, I thought I told you not to play a Dodgeball. ball and more i said well we don't we're playing slaughterball i changed the rules you know that's safer he just he's staring me down i'm like oh what are you going to do so so then we went from slaughterball to shoot the ducks yes well so then all the kids line up on the baseline in the gym and i you'd have five hunters five hunters each of them had a ball Well, they'd take off running across the baseline And they're trying to shoot the ducks
Starting point is 00:34:40 Wap, Wap, Wap, that ball hit, you know Well, guess what? Back at the principal office Somebody done a head shot Oh, yeah You sound like me except I wasn't on coach I was just in school Oh, man, it was high quality entertainment
Starting point is 00:34:57 Right, that is, right. So these two guys, they said, yeah, as kids, we thought it was a bunch of fun looking back coach stone just wanted to throw dodge balls at us they loved it though oh yeah they all of them loved it except the one that got hitting the nose well duck you know hey be coordinated and duck we had so much fun in there oh yeah yeah uh had a ton of fun i i think you'd be a fun coach especially if you played dodgeball every well look my my favorite part about about coaching teaching was when i got to um i taught a special
Starting point is 00:35:34 needs class and those kids were near and dear to my heart and I made when they came to my P.E. Number one, I made dang sure that nobody bullied them or they was about to be made an example out of. And number two, I made them my assistant coaches. I gave them a whistle. That's right. Hey, that's pretty sharp when you think that you're an assistant coach. And if somebody said one one crossword to them, you know, they were made an example of. in front of the rest of them. And they ended up policing themselves. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:36:10 That's the military way. You know, private pile. Private Powell messes up. Everybody pays for it. Well, So you either got to help the guy get up to the standard. That's right.
Starting point is 00:36:24 You're a teacher is what, like. Well, I wasn't, I mean, I had PE classes. No, but I'm saying you teach people like in anything. Now it all comes clear. Like you're just a natural, you like to teach people how to do stuff. Yeah. It all comes clear of why I like this man, okay, when he said, okay, special needs kids, okay?
Starting point is 00:36:47 Because he's great with kids, okay, and old people. And he likes to teach people how to do stuff. Like David Martinez killed his first deer in 30 years. Have fun. At 400 yards. 400 yards. I already had to shoot. So that would be a sniper.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Crossbow. I love it. I really do. 420 yards with a crossbow. Now we're talking. Yeah. But anyways, yeah. So you remember what those kids look like?
Starting point is 00:37:16 Were they grown men? They're grown men. Oh, good night. Hey, they were grown men with money because they came in and they were rigging their boat up. And I was like, and then they started talking about Coach Stone. They're like, man, we love the podcast with Coach Stone. Oh, we had a big time back in them days, I'm telling you. You know, that was part of my deal.
Starting point is 00:37:37 I wanted those kids to have a good experience. Well, you leave a good legacy. They remember, you know. Because look, I remember some of my teachers. Okay, they were very instrumental in making me who I am today. Okay, I was a horrible student, but they did a lot. And even with me being a horrible student, they'd done a lot. Who was your face?
Starting point is 00:38:03 favorite coach growing up. Shout out to Coach Bristow, wherever you are. Probably coached Sigris. I'd coach at the high school. Football? And Vivian, yeah. Oh, so speaking of football, we had one of LSU's quarterbacks in the blind other day.
Starting point is 00:38:27 Which one? Oh, Brennan. Miles Brennan. Miles Brennan. So Si calls me, and he hears, Cy, talked. So he said, is that Uncle Si? I put him on speaker, you want to talk to him. His side proceeds to tell him a 10-minute story.
Starting point is 00:38:41 No, no, no, he asked me. He said, somebody said, you played football. What was the greatest? What was the greatest? Man. He said, what was the greatest game you had? And I was bust out of life. And he said, what's so funny?
Starting point is 00:38:53 I said, well, we got beat 77 to 14. I said, but it was the greatest game I ever played. And he said, well, you got to tell me about it now. Phil, from Phil's math. said that sigh would go in like a kamikaze. Oh, no, no. I didn't have no sense. No regard for his personal well-being.
Starting point is 00:39:14 I didn't have no sense. I really didn't. Knock your block off. No, no. I'm serious. I didn't have no sense. It takes a special human to do that. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:39:23 I played safety a little bit in high school. I would not do that. I was more of an arm tackler and not a very good one. Oh, hey. Three or four times, okay, in my career, okay, you know, they have a lot of pulling guards when they run in a sweep, you know, and they tell you when you're playing like linebacker on the outside quarterback, okay, on defense. Yeah. They tell you, don't ever turn. Square up.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Square up. Don't do that. Well, hey, y'all, they ran a play, and Johnny, Johnny, John, John, John, was. was like 6-4 and about 220 our fullback. Look, they hacked the ball, Phil put it in his gut, and I just, I mean, I just floored him.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Lowered him. Oh, no, no, no. So Coach Saga said, all right, come on, he went in the huddle. Okay, he run another play, okay, but this time he pulled the guard. Well, I done the unthinkable. Don't square up.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Oh, I did. And, hey, Bill Monroe, row, okay, the guard. He's about 225 and fast as a cat, okay. I squared up. He hit me like this, and we're in the middle of the football field. I flipped about 12 times and I hit the grandstand after I went over the racetrack. Made a field go.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Okay, and I can't breathe because he's done knocked the air out of me. Coach Savers just got me by the pants, pulling him up, trying to give me to breathe. Yeah. Well, I finally did, but, hey, after that, I'd never square it up again. That was the move that old coaches did. They'd grab you by the front of your pants.
Starting point is 00:41:15 They'd pick you up, drop you. Pick you up, drop you. Oh, no. Pick you up, and jop. Oh, he didn't have to do it about 10 times before I just. Oh. Yeah, Bill Munroy. Hey.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Hey, Bill. No, it scared him to death. He thought he could. Oh, no. I'm so. sorry. And I said, hey,
Starting point is 00:41:34 it's football, son, I'm okay. I said, I'm okay. Just don't keep you eye off. He wouldn't hit him for a while there.
Starting point is 00:41:40 Coach had to finally just say, hey, you're going to play football? You're going to get out of the uniform and go home, son. Yeah. It's security.
Starting point is 00:41:48 But he, I'm telling you, he knocked me 50 yards. 50 yards. Oh, yeah. Go, Wong,
Starting point is 00:41:54 won, won, and I'm against the grandstands where you sit, you know, just. Sometimes, time sigh remembers his life.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Burge and butterflies. But hey, you got to understand, 130 pounds and guess what position I played on defense? Monster man. Monster man. Hey, we got to. I went to the ball. I had no, no, right, the only thing I didn't get to the balls.
Starting point is 00:42:19 Look, they had a fullback that made All-American, okay, from Bird High School. C.E. Bird? He was about 5-4 and weighed two. 50. Good night. And run a 4.0. Now we're just,
Starting point is 00:42:36 now we're in the 90. Hey, you're in the 95. I got to cut you. No, no. Take a break. No, no, we got. I got to finish here. Hey.
Starting point is 00:42:46 Okay, everybody, hold it. Okay. They cross-blocked. Okay, you could have, you could have drove a train through this opening. Well, I'm looking. The quarterback is fixing to put the ball in the fullbacks. Belly. And I said, guy, I said, I'm not going to get to the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:43:07 I got to hit the darn fullback. Look, I hit him, and we watched this on film. It was hilarious. Perfect form, dip, okay, squared up, hit him with the shoulder, wrap my arms around him. I tackled him 45 yards behind me after he stomp me for 45 yards. hug you son oh no no he stomp me his knees and his thighs were just beating me to death and i finally as he's running over me i finally tripped him up by grabbing an ankle got him but i tackled him
Starting point is 00:43:48 45 i hit him behind behind the line of scribbage and tackling him 45 yards behind me sigh how you do you are fantastic he liked to kill me okay just what he'd like to do well we're now we're All right, now we can take a break. Oh, I need one. In that duck call room email address. But I love football. I love football. And the funniest part about it, after I'll tell it again.
Starting point is 00:44:18 Anyway, folks Saikers called me in. I'm fixing the league, high school, okay, graduate. He's gone. He said, oh, hey, sit down. Let me Ted, talk to you. Okay, what about? He said, hey, look, you know, I know coach I, L. we're at Tech.
Starting point is 00:44:32 I can get you a walk on trial. I looked at Coach Sacks and busted out laughing. I said, have you lost your mind? I weigh 130 pounds, coach. I said, I've been in the locker room over at Tech with field after a game. I said, I am a boy and a small one at that. I said, hey, them are grown men over there. And I don't even know that's the correct terminology.
Starting point is 00:45:01 I should say those are grown gorillas over there. I'm not going to play. I'm not going to do a walker. You got to be a big boy. I know you loved the game. I said, yeah, but I ain't suicide. I ain't suicidal. No, I ain't playing.
Starting point is 00:45:16 You want to hear what the fans have to say? What are the fans say? Let's hear it. I'm going to just do one because I have to. Jacob over in Franklin, Tennessee, emailed in. He heard a story about Si, where you were chasing. by wolves. Hey, that's in my book.
Starting point is 00:45:39 It actually wasn't, I thought it was wolves at the time. He wants me to, it'll get you to tell the story. Yeah. So, okay, look, it's Friday afternoon. We get off the school bus, okay, and Phil comes in and tells mama, me and the football players
Starting point is 00:45:56 are going catfishing on Red River this weekend. And the only thing Mama says was, take your younger brother. Oh, mama, you're all. Oh, take him. Hey, take a younger brother, you can't go. So, okay.
Starting point is 00:46:11 They show up in the pickup, okay. We get in the pickup, take off, okay. It's about six of us. I'm in the back, you know, in the back of the bed. We go to Red River on this side, okay. We pull up to the levee, walk down, there's a boat there with a motor on it, and they crank it up, and they show me, okay.
Starting point is 00:46:28 See the log over on the other shore? I said, yeah. You motor right straight to that, shut the motor off, tie the boat up real good where you don't lose it because we're going to need it to fish. I said, okay. And then you'll walk up the bank and there's a little clearing up there where we're going to be camping.
Starting point is 00:46:44 I said, okay. So they watch me go across. I kill the motor, tie the boat up there, okay. So look, this is on Red River, okay? This is 40 miles from any civilization. Okay, this is just in the woods on the Red River. So I'm sitting in this little clearer about as big as this room.
Starting point is 00:47:03 it's starting to get dark because they went the long way around. They got to buy hot dogs and marshmallows. I'm sitting there, it's getting dark, and all of a sudden, you know, the coyotes start howling. I thought it was wood. They start howling then, it's just dark now. And hey, this is just a round place in the woods clearing,
Starting point is 00:47:26 okay, with brush all the way around. Well, look over on the other side and one sticks his head out. Yeah, I said, that ain't good. Then there's another one, then another one. So look, I just see where you can tell a pickup has driven down through there, through the grass. Well, they start coming toward me, so, hey, here I go. Take off running.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Run through the high grass, it turns into a dirt road, okay? I look behind me, they have just a pack of them. And they're chasing you? And they're chasing me, okay. So, hey, you know, I'm in second gear, and I said, hi, they're just, they, they, they're just a pack of them. They gain it, son. You better put it in third. So look, hey, I had a dirt road. Okay, but remember, well, they're getting closer.
Starting point is 00:48:09 I tell them, hey, you better go ahead and put it in fifth and put the hammer down, son. They gain it. So that dirt road runs in a gravel road, the gravel road, I take a left on it. It runs into a paved road. I take a left on that, you know, and hey, I got on a pair of kids tennis shoes. Okay. So I am, if I had had a coach, like old coach stone there with a stopwatch, From start to finish, I would hold every running record from the 40-yard dash to the 10-mile marathon.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Okay, because hey, look, they're going to chase me, and I'm talking about it. I've done, you know, I finally, here I am, I'm coming up to a full-way stop, okay? Good grief, you know. Man, it's hot. Yeah, you know, you know, sweating. I'm talking about, good grief, boy, it's too hot. And all of a sudden I took a deep breath And I said, yeah, I smell burnt rubber
Starting point is 00:49:06 I said, I said Some farmer must have Push some brush up with a dozer Clearing the field and he threw a tire on it And set it fire with diesel And was burning a, you know, burning a brush pop Obviously And I said, but hey, you know, I'm getting sweating
Starting point is 00:49:23 I'm looking And I'm smelling smoke, you know, burnt rubber smoke And I looked down And my kids tennis shoes are on fire. Okay, so I just, it was lucky, is the ditch there, okay, on the side of the road, it was rain, okay?
Starting point is 00:49:41 I just went over and stepped in the ditch. I had to put them out. Okay, look, the only thing that's not true about that story is, okay, it didn't catch on fire, but look, it was, I had done run so fast and so far on that asphalt that when I was walking on it,
Starting point is 00:50:00 it was, The rubber on my tennis were worth, you know. You ran so fast, you melted your shoes. I'm melting my tennis shoes. That's the only thing that, hey. I thought you're going to say I didn't tie the boat up. No, no, no. No.
Starting point is 00:50:21 But anyway, hey, they wasn't wolves. They was coyotes. Yeah. Okay, that happened twice, okay? Me and Phil's duck hunting one day, okay? No, no, I'm serious. That happened twice. Not what?
Starting point is 00:50:33 She's on fire! Look, we had done killed a bunch of ducks, a bunch of ballers, okay? We're chest deep in water on the edge of an old river on Red River. Okay? Old River just, you know, changed the current. Oxbow Lake. Yeah, Oxbow Lake. So anyway, we killed a bunch of ducks, you know.
Starting point is 00:50:53 We got them on their back. He gets dark. We're going through the wood, y'all. Well, hey, guess what? They smell of that blood, them coyotes. So they get to chase them. You know, Phil said, how many sheds you got? I said, hey, I ain't got much.
Starting point is 00:51:05 I got three or four. We don't shout them all duck on. So, hey, we're going through the woods out there. Yep, and that is following us. At once in a while, we just raised up and just, boom, boom, boom. I tell them, it was out. Yeah. But they literally chased us out of the woods.
Starting point is 00:51:21 So, hey, that was back in, look, we would get on the bus in the morning and go to school. We had about a 30-mile drive. The farmers had hired, they'd got so bad, okay? the farmers had hired trappers to come in poisoning them and trap them. We'd come driving by, and there'd be 300 that they'd caught the night before hanging on a fence line. 300. Good, Cree. They wouldn't take like a calf or a sick cow.
Starting point is 00:51:53 They were putting down grown bulls and killing them and eating them. So it's three, four hundred to a pack. That's terrible. No, it was rough, boy. They couldn't catch the monster man. No, Monster man. Well, I had a few more emails, but... I would have held all the records, I'm telling you.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Your storytelling was on Sy Robertson level today. They'll never be a better storyteller. Well, when he got on the football, I said, I just got one email today. Yeah. Hey, they're true. 95%. 95%. Well, we'll cover some more.
