Duck Call Room - Uncle Si's First Visit to Phil and Kay Since Diagnosis
Episode Date: April 17, 2025Uncle Si gets a surprising invite to open for comedian John Crist but isn’t sure he’s ready for the big stage. Worship time with Miss Kay and Phil gets lively when Kay has to shush the gathered crowd, and the boys confirm once and for all that Uncle Si’s receipts actually do check out. Martin is forced to defend his undying love for Crocs, John-David shares a wild Florida woman story involving stolen church funds and some ridiculous purchases, Phillip roasts Si’s questionable driving skills, and the boys react to a mysterious repeat caller who keeps leaving unsettling (but hilarious) voicemails. - Learn more about your ad choices. Hey, that's one of the things that Trump's working on.
Better showers in the motels instead of just a little trickle.
Yeah, there's other things.
He probably ought to consider it.
Bonds and showers in a hotel.
It is pretty bad, though.
You get an ass and just a trickle.
You can't even soap up good.
No, me and I stayed in a motel and it was bad.
That's the ones where the doors open outside to the street.
And I was scared.
and we were in Bojure.
You stayed in a motel in Bojure?
Yeah, we didn't set it up.
Somebody else said that.
Why didn't you just come home?
No, we should have.
We wouldn't know the event.
This is new information.
Welcome back to the Duck Call Room.
Side sleeping in a motel in Bojure.
You are aware you made a lot of money, right?
I don't know, but we took turns staying awake, watching the door.
And you're also aware you have a driver, right?
Yeah.
You're an hour and a half.
But we had to stay because the event was like,
the next morning and we had to do something the night before.
So I just said,
Sa, hang in there.
We got our pistol in our pocket.
Buddy, me and you would have rode that 80 miles a couple of times.
Yeah, I'm big into sleeping in my own bed.
Yeah, that's way too close to my house to spend the night.
I was going to look up,
but there's probably more than one motel in Bozier.
It's the worst one.
I'm telling you, whoever booked it for us.
It was bad.
What was the event?
I'm just curious.
Well, it was like a two-day event, some kind of fundraiser for something.
And so it was having to do with kids.
And we got there and it was rough.
And I was like, I don't really want to stay here, you know.
Not going to.
But now we did.
Right off the side of town, boy.
Yeah, it was.
Here we go.
Here's one that we can stay at tonight for $51.
Too expensive.
Hey, I didn't have a price.
$51 or $61.
It was probably half that where we stayed.
If I'm going to sleep there, I ask you to charge me more than $51.
That's not enough.
It was bad.
If you want to give me the discount after I leave, that's fine.
But like when you charge my card, can you at least make it like $200?
So I feel better about what I'm doing to.
Super 7.
They tried to one up a Motel 6.
That sounds like it.
I'm not for it.
Stayed here.
So don't you remember we had to walk on the outside and all the steps?
Well, you've been too many places.
Well, look.
I didn't even, I couldn't even pull like the cover back on the beds.
I just slept in the chair.
This is out of a movie.
Philip,
they have casinos there with like decent hotel.
It was set up for us.
We were doing the events.
And I mean,
we were there.
What did they feed you?
What'd you bring home?
No,
if you didn't have it in your truck,
no.
If you didn't have the food with you,
you didn't get nothing.
It was bad.
I just figured there was a catch for Philip.
No,
no, I didn't set this one up.
This was way back in the day.
I didn't set it.
up. I was just, I was just a part of it with.
We're currently 93.9
miles away. So at 95
miles an hour, which Cy can drive
and does.
Because he, ain't no cop going to give
Sioux. And ain't nobody going to beat him in the roundabouts.
Oh, do you fly
through roundabouts? No, well, hey,
it's a roundabout
for crying out loud.
What does it have to do with this? Hey, the first time I went
up there,
it was, it was a three, it was worse
than a three ring circus.
You don't, so our town has a roundabout.
Hey, it's a roundabout.
If there ain't nothing coming, just going around it.
Yeah, you do roundabout 90.
Oh, hey.
So they sit there, they sit there looking both ways and I'm saying.
You only got to look one way.
Yeah.
That is true.
Look to your right, dummy.
If it ain't that coming, go on through it.
I would most assuredly look left.
Yeah, what's where are you getting in the roundabout?
Where did you take us at?
Remember he's got a lot of time?
overseas.
Yeah, you look at Wade, that's a problem.
Yeah.
I'm good.
All danger's coming from that way.
Hey, I got good vision, son.
Oh, I see everything.
Like Eagle.
Gosh.
He's so far ahead.
He's looking right and left.
All at the same way.
Oh, man.
Welcome back to the duck car.
Did we do that?
I tried to.
I yelled it real fast because I was so curious about.
Philip staying in a motel.
Philip and Syne.
I felt like we were going to get robbed.
I mean, I was kind of planning on it.
I didn't know.
He's planning on it.
There was some shady characters.
Yeah, I couldn't sleep.
That's a bad day.
But Sye slept like a baby.
I said,
you come up here and watch for a little while.
That's where we're going to stay there
when we go see our friend John in May.
No, we're not.
No.
We are.
You're not going to stay there?
You're going to drive home?
Yes.
You got a mouse in your pocket.
Si said, I made it once.
I ain't doing it again.
Are you going to go up?
on stage with him?
Are you opening for John Chris when he's in Shreveport?
No.
He offered you the...
Oh, we got to go to that, Sigh.
That's going to be awesome.
He offered Sye the ability to open.
Zai, we're going.
Is everybody going to go?
Like our whole team?
He said?
Yeah.
Whatever.
Apparently.
All right, good.
I like it, Zai.
He told me Zai was working on opening.
Good.
Well, I'll work on it all right.
It turns out I get up there.
I'll open.
Man's going unprepared.
I like that.
Hey, look, the other day, Saturday,
me and that man and Matt Owens went to visit Field and Kate.
This is an update.
I don't know if Jason knew have done an update lately.
Okay, we went and visited Field and Kay.
They're doing fine.
We appreciate all the prayers that y'all have been saying to the Almighty for them.
And then Sunday morning we actually went over and worshipped with them.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
We've done a good lesson, all three of us.
So it was good.
Yeah.
So, but they're, they're doing fine for elderly people that's fixed to be,
feels fixed to be 79 to 24th.
Okay.
I'm going to be 77 to 27.
Okay.
And then Missy's birthday, I think, is the month of April.
She's like in our 40s, I think.
Five or six people.
April and April.
Yeah.
There's this other guy
named Willie.
Yeah.
And Willie, yeah.
Yeah.
His and Mrs. Berks.
Yeah, the fat little CEO.
Is he still the CEO?
Huh?
I hadn't seen him up here.
Well, he'd pay.
Entitual.
He was once.
Okay.
So, you know, hey.
So the funny is semi-retired.
Yeah.
Simi retired.
I forgot he semi-retired.
The funniest thing about us getting together and doing a little Bible study
that on that Sunday was, you know,
there were other people coming up to where we were.
and they'd kind of bump it to the table and sit down and grab a donut and listen for a minute.
And then they start talking and Kay would say,
that's fine.
Hey,
yeah.
This is okay that way.
She would shift them though.
Well,
I mean,
yeah.
I never knew a shush and headphones could be so bad.
Somebody wants to hear the gospel.
You don't never chew them away.
Yeah.
Hey, come on.
Then I have to see.
Maddie Owens, baby.
Oh,
that's good.
So you do it.
They're doing on.
Oh,
they're doing good.
Yeah.
Good deal.
What did you preach,
Huh?
Perseverance.
Just Jesus?
Yeah.
That's all you need.
Yeah.
It don't take no more than that.
I was just curious if you have.
Well, and hey, and then it's a good place to start.
The best part of it was, okay, love your neighbor as yourself.
Mm-hmm.
And look, you know, and the best way that you can love them, you know, don't get mad
or get angry with them.
Love them.
And then the Bible says it's this way.
That way you'll be heaping coals of fire up on their head.
Okay.
Your enemies, yeah.
Yeah, your enemies.
Love your enemies.
You just got to drop.
Well, I just, that's a unique.
You know, when Jesus said, hey, look, nope, you got to love your enemies.
Yeah, that's hard.
That's hard to do, Sae.
No, that's a tough one.
But, hey, it was a good lesson.
Everybody enjoyed it.
You know, Bill was tired, okay?
So that was the only thing that I noticed is, yeah, he was tired.
Yeah.
Yeah, I get that.
Other than that, but, hey, you know, man.
70 picks to be 70 now he was glad to see you sigh he asked you to bust him out of there
yeah yeah that was the same thing he said hey let's go get your truck go to your house yeah
he said let's get out of here yeah let's get out of here yeah that's why i need to talk to jason
and al and willie and jill because the best thing they can do for phil robinson right now
is go by put him in their truck driving
him down to the lair, put him in a four before,
and take him to the land for about a couple of hours.
You ain't going to do it right now?
Well, I know, but I'm just saying.
Well, I'm just saying the river's coming.
Well, no, no.
We about to have to get in a boat.
Yeah, but that don't bother Phil.
No, that don't bother Phil.
They don't bother Phil.
He used to step out off his steps and step in the boat.
Yeah, I think it'd go where he needed to go.
Yeah.
So that was one of the prerequisites to his lovely,
wife, hey, go find me a place to live on the river.
When she was talking, when Kay was talking to the realtor, you know, Kay asked her,
said, hey, does it flood here?
And the woman, it's kind of scared of the woman.
She said, oh, I'm not going to be, they're not going to buy it because I had to tell
them the truth.
Yes, it does.
And Kay said, that's fine.
That's what we want.
Perfect.
Let's be on an island.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
To an island down there.
But I just thought I would let the fans know, hey, feel okay, are doing fine.
Yeah.
For elderly people, okay.
As good as they can be.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, just keep them in your prayers.
I mean, it's always good.
I did.
We do appreciate the prayers and keep it up.
All right, look, springtime is here.
It's warming up.
You know what that means?
That means more outside cooking.
And y'all know we love to eat beef around here.
And that's what because of our friends over at Triedale's beef makes such a
a good product, baby.
Ain't it good? It's so good.
Our friend, Sal Robertson would say,
buy on the grill!
Look, before we got Tritels, getting ready for a cookout,
man, somebody had to run the grocery store, do all the things,
grab whatever was left in case you were late in the day.
And you never really know where that beef comes from.
But with Tritales beef, we skip the grocery store and do it a different way.
Tritales comes from a family ranch out in Texas.
They're a fifth generation American ranch,
so they've been at it for a while.
Now look, the beef comes straight from their ranch and other ranchers they work with who raise cattle the same way.
Their steaks are properly aged and shipped straight from the ranch to your door.
We threw a couple of ribbys on the grill.
Look, salt, pepper, garlic, hot fire, that's all you need.
Look, because I'll tell you what, when the beef comes from people who raise cattle for a living,
you can taste the difference.
The tenderness and the flavor are fantastic.
So if you're stocking the freezer for grilling season, go check out Tritale's beef.
I know in size case Christine loves it, which is just a, she doesn't eat meat.
She isn't a big meat easier, folks.
Yeah.
Just go to trybeef.com slash.
That's trybeef.com slash support ranch families and eat some dang good steak.
What did you think about the Masters?
Do you watch any of that?
No.
Oh, my goodness.
The only thing I watch in the Masters is I'll watch it to look at all the beautiful flowers.
Okay.
Because that is a, that's probably the prettiest.
course in the world?
Oh, it is.
Yeah, with my humble opinion, okay, because of the flowers and everything.
Or at least of the ones that are known, let's say that.
There may be one out there that ain't, but I think if it's worth pretty.
That's why I kept telling Stone, hey, you need to get with fast-growing trees and get me some darned fruit trees planted on our property down there.
Frile's property.
So you look like the golf course?
Well, no, no.
I just like, hey, it's, you know, like when I was squirrel hunting in October, guess what gets ripe in October?
Musky dimes.
Oh.
Okay.
And it's nothing better than take your 22 rifle with scope on it, get in the wood, go find you a tree that's got a musky dine vine on it, pick you a pocket full of them, and then go sit down there on some, you know, dead tree.
you know, when I have a squirrel come back, pop him, drop him, okay.
And then I drop you a couple of musky dimes in.
Come on, wait for him.
Pop him, drop him.
And make sure you got plenty of turlip paper with you.
Right, well, hey, yeah.
That'll run through.
They are tart.
Okay.
They are tough, but they are good.
Oh, Lord.
I just described as perfect day.
Yeah.
No, no.
Hey, look, you know, that's what Phil needs.
Okay.
A break from where he's at.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, no, no, because that's what I told.
I said, what are you two outlaws been up to?
You're always jumping off the reservation.
You know, I said, hey, I said, that's why it took me so long to come here and visit y'all.
I didn't know where you are you?
I said, every time I asked, where were you?
There's somebody said, no, they ain't there.
And I said, well, good grief, where are they at?
So I was always, you know, I was too late.
You needed to be a tracker.
Yeah, yeah.
Needed you a good tracker.
Be fair, Phil's never been easy to track.
Well, no.
I'll ask everybody ever tried to catch him.
Well, see, Jason, all his kids have forgot.
Okay, this is a man that spent 95% of his lifetime in the woods.
You know who I ran across?
Who?
The other day, he was like, he, a guy, people ask me a lot how Phil's doing.
And I'll let him know what I know.
I don't know as near as much as everybody else around here.
But he goes, yeah, my dad found him in a Cyprus log, you know, 40,000.
I met the guy.
son who found Phil when he was sick with fever out in the woods and I was like wow that was a small world moment
no yeah we've always filmed duck hunting the one thing I always regret it is when we went to
shenny lake and spent about two weeks in high water backwater finding big logs operas logs
and then we took them from shinny's lake down the creek
all the way to Phil's property.
Well, buddy, I got good news for you.
The river's coming, and if you want to do it again,
I'll be glad to document you do it.
Well, no, no, because, hey, look.
That sounds like way too much work.
Phil had sent me over there because he had something he had to do.
And, you know, I was looking for more.
Well, I got lost on Shinn's Lake because I didn't know it.
Okay, but I did find a gigantic cypress log
that was all, all, what,
300 feet long.
And look, it put these tables together,
and it would be about big around.
300 feet long.
Hey, that thing was slick as a baby's butt.
300 feet?
Okay, no limbs.
Okay, huge.
You know, you could have cut it in like in three sections, you know, you're beautiful.
100 foot each.
Yeah, and I couldn't find it.
When we went back with field, I couldn't find the stupid day.
You lost a football field-sized tree?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That's yards.
Yeah.
Oh, no, but that was, that was a feat, okay.
300 feet's 100 yards, Phil.
Yeah.
Oh, no, I would.
It was about three football.
Oh, my goodness.
No, no, no, it was about three football links.
So this is a football field long?
Longer.
Longer than a football.
Hey, it's longer than a football field.
Up and vanished like a fart in a wind, just like Andy.
You heard it here first.
Sigh Robertson found.
no one of our in shitty lake in the year of our lord
1987 whoa how tall of them redwoods get not no three oh no yes they do yes they do
they get uh redwood in california are gigantic
okay hey look they they cut a hole through one of them that you could drive a pickup
through son how tall they get i'm looking hey they used to be faster well i was looking up
how tall the Empire State building was just for
funsy. Well, speaking of
Sye's stories, when we were talking to Phil,
Cy was telling them about catching catfish
and how big the catfish
were. And then Phil said, yeah,
no, I think you're going a little bit too far there.
He's stretching how big it was. He said he's
stretching this. I'm incorrect.
A redwood tree 100 feet
wide, which is insane.
And 400 foot tall.
Yeah. So you found a redwood in
Sheenley Lake. Well, I know.
I look. The blind on
B break up there will fish in Moss Lake?
Hey, I think it was like 75 yards where we had the blind and the top of it.
Hey, a malleard duck could light in the decoys directly under you.
And with a three and a half inch magnum 12 gauge with twos in it,
you could shoot him in the back and he would swim off.
You could not kill him.
There you go.
Redwood church.
So, hey, that's how high.
Okay.
Oh, no, Redwood, they got a picture of one somewhere.
I found the statue of liberty.
You can actually drive down the river.
No, but then he lost it.
And then he lost it.
So how'd you lose it?
No, lose what?
The tree.
Oh, no.
I couldn't find it.
It was in backwater.
No.
It's out of his banks, way out in the woods.
I'm going to give side.
I just accidentally stumbled on it.
That's why I keep telling y'all that, hey, I've led a, uh, a exciting.
and unique life.
No.
Because look,
Luter Bottom,
I don't know if you've ever been up.
Oh, I know where Luter.
Yeah.
I've been all up in it.
And when we was in college
for the one semester I was there.
I used to roost woodies in there.
No, no.
Look, we used to wade that
where, look,
there was just fingers
of water that
maybe be a foot deep
and that wide.
Mm-hmm.
Now, they're full of snakes.
This thing is full of snake.
Okay.
And we're bass fishing.
Okay, Wade.
You know, and just wearing them out, about a pound and a half,
biggest we ever called, I think three pounds is the biggest one
of we ever called it.
Yeah.
But there was thousands of them in them little fingers.
Them woodies used to love it.
Oh, no, yeah.
I'm sure they still do, but those days are passing.
Yeah, deer were running everywhere, snakes crawling everywhere,
fish jumping everywhere.
You know, just, you know, the woods were alive with everything.
Wow.
With the sound of music.
Matter of fact, Bill,
Red Dog.
Phillips.
Yeah, Phillips.
He was back in there doing something,
and he found one of them big
short barrel cannons.
W.E.?
Yeah.
Not a cannon?
He found a cannon and the balls,
you know, the steel that you shoot.
Y'all?
I can't believe I've never heard this story.
Hey, look.
And we wouldn't look for it again
because, hey, that thing worth money, big money.
Couldn't find it.
Oh, boy.
couldn't find it is what is is every story you got today so you found something incredible
that no no i'm saying that's hey we used to there was nothing that we did with one try
martin lost his phone philip you got my phone philip i thought you get a kidney shot i'm just
ask you look phil the time he used to go to uh uh uh Arkansas on the uh corny creek okay okay
with a P-roll and P-Rull as far as it could go
and then drag the P-roll out when they run out of a runner.
And look, somebody would pick them up at a bridge in Louisiana somewhere?
I'm serious.
That was nothing we wouldn't try.
W.E.
W.E.
All right, so we're in the Duck Call Room podcast.
And I just told them the story about you found that Bunderbuss Cannon.
You found a cannon?
In Luter Bottoms.
Yep.
Not in Luter.
Not in Luter.
Not in Luter.
Where was it?
Not in Luter.
Oh.
It was up there somewhere.
You know where Trucksnow is?
Yeah, I know where Trucks know is.
Colton Murphy's from Trucks, no.
Okay.
And then you lost it?
No.
Oh, I lost it.
Yeah.
We couldn't find it.
We went back to look for it.
I was on a beach rig.
looking over a flat.
We always went to a score hunting when I was young.
I was probably 15, 14, something like that.
And I'm sitting there for daylight, floating around,
and I'm looking for something on my right hand,
and I feel something.
And I rub it a little bit, and I'm like, that's metal.
It's dark, you know.
I'm like, I'm just waiting for daylight.
She started getting a little bit of daylight.
I'm still looking for the squirrels.
And I look over and I'm like, hey, what is this?
Well, it took me about 10 minutes and it's a cannonball.
I would say 12 pounds.
Okay.
And then once I got down on the ridge,
I was looking around
once I go down the hill
and I see it sticking out of the ground
about a
probably
inch and a half
two inches
and I can't tell
if it's a cannon
but it looks like a cannon
I never did find the hole
it just had a lot of dirt and crap
from rocks and stuff all over
it but it had a rim on
close to you know down there
toward the end, like it kind of braged up a little bit.
Okay.
And Murray Crowe's been after me ever since.
All right.
Well, that's the canon story.
I just wanted to hear it from the source.
Good thing.
All right.
I was hoping it wasn't field news because I'm coming in, just coming in Sunday.
And I'll probably be there all week.
Oh, good.
Well, you're going to get an actual chair then.
Good.
That's good to know.
We got W.E.
coming up on the pocket.
All right.
Yeah.
I holler at you.
All right.
So W.E.
Found a shot put in the woods.
Cool.
Yep.
Big barrel.
Big barrel ones.
Short barrel.
I'll say this.
Sigh, you tell a much better story than W.E.
Well, no, no.
He had told us, look, he had told us that it was a cannon sitting there and a stack of, of the balls.
There you go.
Si, you ever call somebody and had a wrong number and left to my voicemail?
Swear that it was the right number.
No.
I get a lot of the wrong calls.
Is Jim there?
And I said, there ain't no Jim lives here, son.
You got the wrong number.
Yeah.
Well, we get that on your phone line from time to time.
Okay.
That's one I'm in a robociller mode.
Well, so you know we have the voicemail, sigh, right?
People call in and says, hey, it's Cy Robertson.
Somebody's had the wrong number and keeps calling us.
they just keep on and they won't stop leaving voicemails so hunter well what can i take so
you give out the number every time we say that so i yeah 318 215-6559 that's our phone number
hold on do we need to call it real fast so people hear what this guy's listening to
i'm guessing after about 10 voicemails you just you ain't listening anymore 318 what is it
215-659.
You reached my answering machine.
Hey, look, read me a message for us to play in the duck hall room,
and you just might hear yourself in an upcoming episode.
And that's what's about to happen to this.
Oh, we play a poker now, boy.
That's right.
That's the kind of voice of silence.
That's what sally's.
And it always says that it can't be transcribed.
Nope.
That tracks.
Yeah, Apple Intelligence ain't made it that far.
No.
So Hunter, we have a guy that just keeps calling our phone number?
Yeah.
So this guy sent 10 voicemails.
Is it possible for us to answer that phone?
I mean, I have his phone number if you need to call him back.
His name's Earl.
His name's Earl.
Let me call him.
Goodbye, Earl.
So his name's Earl.
I ignored the first few voicemails because he never said what he wanted.
Then after a few, he said what he wanted.
I want to play all 10 of them.
What?
If that's okay.
How long are they?
Not that long.
Do you have them cut together all together?
Are we going to have to go like, voicemail, voice mail, voicemail, voicemail, voicemail.
Well, get started.
Yeah.
It's like a whole, it's an epic.
It's an epic.
It's a mini series here.
Yes.
I, fire a guy.
I know a guy named Earl.
Earl.
Yeah.
He's from Jenna.
He's not looking for you.
He's a good friend of, uh, Avery.
Avery's.
No.
He's one part of a baby.
He ever had some black-old.
Guy named Earl cuts my hair too.
What little bit I got left.
All right, Honor.
I don't know a single Earl.
Can you bring you an orange chicken oil?
Orange chicken oil?
What?
That was Napoleon Dynamite.
That boy's eye on something.
I might have forgotten about the opening.
Hunter, that was the message I left you.
Yeah, that sounds like somebody had a bad night at Easter.
Somebody flew too close to the sun.
Right.
Somebody's having liver problems.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, that's the first one.
All right.
Part two.
Hi, girl.
I told you yesterday to bring that orange chicken from Costco and you still ain't brought a row.
It's the orange chicken in the freezer section.
Like with all the Asian stuff, you know, like there's rice, chicken, some acreals.
the orange chicken specifically, Earl.
I need it before Friday at 6 p.m.
That's when the big cookout happens, Earl.
And I promise Tyrone, I'd bring in this chicken.
He really wants it.
It's a favorite thing.
He's very disappointed if you don't bring it, Earl.
He's sick.
He's kids to, huh?
Chicken quickly before it's too late.
He's calling Earl, it sounds like.
Hey, this is Earl again.
Oh.
I'm still wondering if you're going to bring that chicken.
chicken today or like you just haven't got back to me.
Remember the cookouts Friday at 6 p.m.
That's a Utah area.
I know.
I got a bunch of us.
You're bringing that chicken.
Hey, Earl's wanting some chicken.
Yeah, so that's Earl.
He's kidding the mountain man.
Here's my problem.
I'm serious.
He's kidding the mountain man.
Ain't nobody in Salt Lake City, Utah, eating orange chicken.
Keep going.
going.
Get going.
Up.
Um,
Hey,
this is Earl again.
Where are you bringing that chicken?
Like,
this is getting ridiculous.
Not only you're not bringing the chicken,
but you're not even texting or calling.
You're just not responding to me.
Like,
why are you doing this,
Earl?
How could you do this to your own grandfather?
He promised to bring this chicken.
This is like that time you didn't bring me that toilet paper.
Except I need this chicken by Friday.
It's not just, you know.
What's that?
You need your chicken by Friday, boys.
I can go without toilet paper a few days, but Tyrone wants this chicken on Friday.
Friday by, let's see, like 4 p.m. at the latest because the cookouts at 6, and I need at least two hours to cook.
Please bring the chicken today, or at least tell me when you're going to bring it.
There's not much time.
No.
He ain't got much time, boys.
Why don't we just call them?
I'm going to say, Earl.
I'm going to let you lead the conversation, Philip.
I'm going to act like Mountain Man then.
Only if you're comfortable with it.
Yeah, I'm fine. Look at me. I'm very comfortable.
What happened? Are we prepared for somebody named Brittany to answer this phone?
All right, Earl.
I got your chicken ready.
I'm nervous.
Hi, I'm a Google virtual calling assistant recording this call for the person you're trying to reach.
Can you say what you're calling about?
Earl.
Earl, I need my chicken.
This poor girl named Brittany has no idea what is going on.
She has no idea her phone number's been going to.
I'm just going to hang up.
No, no, no.
First, I got to order a three-piece mixed.
Si, you want anything?
Any chicken?
Yeah, I want some orange chicken.
Get to sign some orange chicken.
We used to call her.
I'll take it home for my wife.
She likes on.
She likes orange chicken.
Yep.
It was definitely his voice, though.
Oh, yeah.
No, it was an AI Google assistant.
It was AI.
It felt like all that was AI.
Yeah.
I found maybe one of the weirdest articles I've read in a minute.
What?
Woman accused of embezzling more than half a million dollars.
From church.
From church.
Are you ready for this?
Yeah.
A woman is accused of embezzling more than half a million.
million dollars.
44 years old.
She's a Baptist.
I don't know why that's important.
It's just the name of the church.
She was the financial secretary at the church for 11 years.
Are you ready to hear all the things she embezzled?
Yeah.
She did get fired as well.
Can you put it on the screen?
Oh yeah.
Here we go.
In 2020, it started in 2020.
And she made some unauthorized charges, paid off some credit card debt, and, you know, paid herself
a little extra. That was 90 grand.
Next year, she was like, you know
what, this worked. It's going to go
up, baby. She bought Amazon
stuff, SeaWorld
tickets, hey dude
shoes, and a
helicopter flight. Gosh dang it, she listens
to us. And a
helicopter flight over
the Grand Canyon. She listens
to us. She wears
hey dudes and goes to SeaWorld.
Yes.
This is our people.
Oh, look, and then the next year she got a little more excited.
$125,000, cruise lines, I'm betting carnival.
Yeah.
Airbnb concert tickets, I'm betting, Morgan Wallen, and more.
Anyway.
It was at a Tracy Lawrence concert this weekend at your lips.
She's from Florida.
Oh.
Yeah, so anyway, it just amazed me, but my biggest concern is if you're going to embezzle half a million dollars,
why buy fiscally responsible ugly shoes
yeah why not
why not pull the Tennessee quarterback move and ask for a baguatti man
like
the boy whose last name I can't say said
I'm going all in on this the University of Tennessee
going to pay me and they said no player
we'll see you so
anyway she knowfully
and unlawfully used the church's credit card for a half
a million
over a five year period.
Why did it take half a million?
Do you know how many hey dude shoes
you got to buy to get to half a million?
And you know how many trips you got to go on on Carnival?
They name a boat after you.
Like, Carnival hosted the Duck Commander crews
for crying out loud.
Carnival Amelia Baptist crew.
I feel bad for the good folks of Amelia Baptist, though.
But also, why did it take a half a million?
And five years.
Five years.
But to be fair, if I saw somebody walking in with some hey dudes on,
I wouldn't be like, they stole those.
Like, you can afford those, right?
Anybody can have those.
Those are the ugliest issues.
How did she get caught finally?
I don't know.
They did fire her.
Oh, yeah.
She just kept, he's noticed each year went up a little bit.
Yeah, each year she kept dipping.
The first year she was just about it.
You know, at first you wasn't doing enough to even bother with.
Well, she kept raising the price.
The first year was 100 G.
She did enough.
Hey.
But the first year, you noticed it was just like her own money.
She paid all some stuff.
Yeah.
And then she realized she got away with it.
And the additional payroll.
And then she said, who oversees her?
That's the, that's the real issue.
This thing may run a little deeper.
We'll figure it out right here on a duck call room.
Oh, man.
You ain't got to figure out nothing.
That's incredible.
That was a wild one to me.
like the products that made the headline.
Hey dudes.
Crooks be a crooks.
Airbnb, SeaWorld, and Hey dudes.
The helicopter flight
over the Grand Canyon gets me.
Yeah.
Because that's dangerous.
I don't like helicopters.
But she just straight said, you know what?
Them people gave this money to the Lord.
I'm going to look at the Lord's creation.
And the Lord wants me to go to SeaWorld.
And hey dude.
I'm doing the Lord's creation.
And some freaking hay dudes.
I wonder if those were pre-Crock hey dudes.
Was that before Crock's bought them?
2001 was when she got big into Hey-Doods.
That's probably pre-Crock Hey-Dudes.
I bought one pair of them stupid shoes, and I felt dumb.
That's a ding.
That was from the Lord, too.
He was like, you did look dumb.
No, that was for me.
I don't know how people wear them things, but I don't make my feet sweat and stink.
I don't know.
I'll try anything that everybody's doing, right?
Yeah.
You all sell hey dudes?
It seemed like it'd be kind of on brand.
It kind of would, but I'm trying to draw a line somewhere on.
But like with Crocks, I was like, I'll even try these ugly things out.
Yeah, I got Crocs.
Yeah, you're a big crock guy.
I like Crocs.
I like a big crock guy.
I wear them during hunting season.
You wear them all the time then.
During hunts season?
I wear them from my front door to my truck because I know I'm going to go put on waiters.
That's all the time.
Hey, the good people at Crocs, when they saw the lawnmower race episode, they said,
thank you for putting us on the show.
Hey, that's good.
No, we had camouflage duck commander.
We had, uh, we had, um, with them yellow, the yellow four-wheel drive strap.
The yellow accents.
I mean, we, we did.
I just, and I may own one of the handful of pairs of crocs and golf shoes still.
Crocs, camouflage golf shoes, yeah.
So you know what?
I just don't.
They make my feet sweat too.
Like, but I got, I got sweaty feet.
So I don't need no help in that department.
But get you a pair of crocs.
Can I throw a crock fact to you guys?
They only live in Africa and alligators live here.
I've got some crocodile boots.
Do you guys know the movie Idiocracy?
Nope.
No.
No.
Really?
No.
Yeah.
Hunter, we're busier than you, man.
I ain't got time for 10 voicemails or half your movie.
What about it, Hunter?
Tell us.
It's a movie about a guy who goes into cryosleep, goes in the future, and everyone's really dumb, and he's the smartest man on her.
I do know that.
I feel like that when I walk into the duck car room.
wheeze the juice what movie is that
Encino man I have no idea
With that lot like quantum leap right
Ain't that the other show
No I'm gonna have Insino Man
With Polly Shore
You gotta whiz the juice bro
Brendan Fraser
That's him
The point is
Crocs was
Was a company
And they were going bankrupt
Because no one was buying those shoes
So the costume designer of that movie
Was like hey
Find me the dumbest
Looking shoes
That exist for this
movie.
It was Crocs.
After that movie released,
everyone started buying Crocs,
and it took them out of bankruptcy,
which I think would have been
more interesting had you guys known what that movie was.
And now you know
the rest of the story.
I just figured NASCAR saved Crocs.
That's part of it. Duck Dynasty saved Crocs.
Oh, they were rolling.
We, I don't know.
No, they shipped a bunch of stuff after that.
In 2006.
Not near as good as Encino Man.
Insino Man.
good flick.
What did it rate?
I don't know.
I don't even care.
I was just curious on how that movie saved Crocs, because if none of us had ever heard of it.
I have heard that story.
And we're rednecks.
I've heard the story that they were trying to make people look dumb in the future.
So I just put them all in these stupid crocs and nobody was buying crocs.
And then everybody's like, those shoes look kind of comfortable.
And now you know what helps?
Decorate them.
That's too, that goes too far.
My kids like Crocs.
Do they have the little decorations?
There's some Pokemon in our crocks.
Speaking of Pokemon, you want the story of the year?
Sure.
Oh, I got you one.
Oh, go ahead.
You ever seen the movie Sandlot?
Yeah.
Of course you have.
Who hadn't?
You ever seen the...
I watched Angels in the Outfield the other night.
That's a good one.
Didn't realize Matthew McConaughey was in Angels in the Outfield, by the way.
Not the other night.
I didn't know that.
Get ready for this story.
No, it's Pokemon in my book.
I'll call it.
I like calling it Pokemon to make my kids and apparently Beth upset.
She's like, it's Pokemon.
You can't call it Pokemon.
Come on, J.D.
Every time my kids come home, I'm like, you got you some Pokemon cards.
You're like, it's Pokemon, Dad.
And I'm like, ha-ha, that's funny to me.
Anyway, so I collected Pokemon cards in the fourth grade, right?
Okay.
And I kept them.
Oh, there were something.
Well, they were.
Uh-oh.
Until.
I showed them to Benz.
Oh, he done took them out of their sleeves and everything, I did it.
He took them to school.
Uh-oh.
Sold them.
And traded them.
happy meal newfangled Pokemon junk.
He did that.
And I was like, no, he didn't.
And I was like, he-
Did the kid he traded them to?
No, the teacher did, though.
No, he might have.
I texted the kid's dad.
I said, hey, we're going to need them back.
He said, oh, this is hilarious.
Anyways, I'm supposed to be getting my Pokemon cards.
I need to text my wife.
He just checked.
Anyways.
But, hey, I wasn't going to be mad because I gave them.
to him and I was like these are ours these are going to be cool and you I was like he about to learn
the lesson that he just traded probably like probably not much money but like 400 500 bucks
probably sell them on eBay for all of them and he traded them for like literal happy meal
toy no cash value none yeah for junk and I wanted him to learn that lesson but see he got nervous
because he knew he wasn't supposed to take those to school and he got to you know making up some
stories, aka lying.
And then he had to make up another lie to cover
that lie. And then he kept going downhill.
I said, well, here's what you're about to do. You're about to
FaceTime or a good friend, Bear.
And you're going to explain to him
that you took them without your dad's
permission, and on Monday, you need
them all back. And he had
to do the walk of shame into school today
and trade back Pokemon cards.
It really made me happy.
But it was like Sandlot if Pokemon
was as cool as a Babe Ruth baseball.
I got my Pokemon cards back.
You just found out?
I got my holographic blast.
There was one that was like, this is important.
You just traded like $300.
We got it back.
Hunter, did that story give you the hebi-jeebies?
Hunter was on edge.
Hunter was on edge.
Hunter, do you have Pokemon?
No, my parents got me away from Pokemon
because they said it would make me too nerdy.
It's a good thing I did that.
I'd hate to know where you'd be today.
Right?
That works.
You guys seen the movie?
idioticers. That's funny. That was actually a normal thing to say because it is his true story about
the crocs. Good one, Hunter. Yeah, Pokemon and anime kept it away from me. That's a good thing.
Anyway, that was my story from the weekend. I got home on Friday. Oh, man, and I meant it,
I should have brought you. They asked me to do career day at the school.
What did you do?
I said, well, so I said, I got a couple jobs.
One's a podcast, and there's a few kids in this class that are obsessed with Duck Dynasty.
And they always are like, hey, Benz, your dad really know Uncle Si?
And Benz is like, yeah, he does.
And so then I'm there.
And there's this one kid named Mac.
Mac loves you in Duck Dynasty.
I love Mac.
And he's just sitting on the front row listening.
I said, well, I once had a friend come to Career Day at this exact school.
And he asked the kids if they'd ever heard of Vietnam.
And the teachers laughed real hard.
The kids were like, what's nom?
I said, well, bingo tiger ate one of them.
And I was like, man, I should have brought,
I should have brought Si with me to Career Day.
That would have been hilarious.
I'd have got you some cloud around there.
Mm-hmm.
Instead, I walked in with a cricket can with like 50 crickets in it.
How many did you leave with?
All of them.
Let me tell you something, though.
You can't be giving them away.
Hey, let me tell you something.
Them kids got into the crickets.
I thought they were going to ask me a million questions about Uncle Sy.
Only questions about crickets.
Hey,
how come some of them crickets got that long thing coming out their butt?
Is that the boys and the boys versus the girls or just some of them?
Ready, Mr.
Lodge?
Yeah,
I'm interested.
I didn't have entomology.
All I know is the cricket has a six-week lifespan.
We get them at about four weeks.
There you go.
That's the most I know.
They have a what six weeks lifespan?
Six weeks?
If you're a cricket and you're born today,
you better live.
You better get...
Fast and high.
Because by June, you're gone.
You're out.
Interesting.
Now, have you heard...
Shoulder and out when they put a hook in them.
I've got a question.
Have you heard of people taking the legs off of the crickets to fish with them?
No leg cricket?
Yeah.
They do it at shenny.
Oh, I couldn't do that.
That's too much work.
That's bad enough.
I'm putting a hook in it.
I ain't going to rip his legs off.
Have you ever heard of that, sir?
I've heard of it.
Okay.
So it'll float.
Yeah, the floats.
Then this sinks real slow.
Well, his wings, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's right.
And he's buzzing.
Yep.
He ain't going nowhere.
If you lay the leg on, they take off.
You ready for some biology?
Yeah.
The long spike sticking out of a cricket's butt?
Is that boy and girl?
Yes.
Yeah, I figured.
Which one?
I figured it is a girl, huh?
You're so smart.
Why?
I figured that's how she lays her eggs.
You're a genius.
Yeah.
You set this up.
No, I did.
You did not know that.
I mean, I'm just using context clues and what I know about other animals.
Like in general a lot of times in that world females are bigger because they have to do all the work
Like of the child rearing and all the things like boys are just a sperm donor so you know be like that sometimes
Yeah it's like it's like life life happens back to the cricket on the rocks ain't no big surprise
That's at you fast man oh that was one of Phil's favorite thing is to take but I figured they'd like poke that thing in the ground or something and then put their eggs on it or something like that
what I always figured because that thing pretty sharp.
I mean, not like, but I always, you know,
I kid, I poke it.
Like, why is that thing sticking out of there?
Trying to figure out if some fish like that versus a regular one.
That's exactly what they did with it.
They put it into ground.
Ground or leaf or so.
I just figured it was a way for egg, egg transport to some.
Just transforming and hide them.
Yeah.
So.
Crickets are weird.
Yeah, most long poignant things go to the guys.
I get why you'd ask it that way.
Oh yeah
That's where my childlike mind went
And I was going to giggle after I found out
But it was wrong
Well you asked the right person
Yeah that's a big old boy
Look at him, throw him out there
Oh wow
Beth just texted me
Uh oh
The good news is gang
We've been talking foolishness and goofiness
This entire episode pretty much
And Beth just
And for 400 and something prior
this. Yeah, well, this is the one episode. This is Easter's next. Oh, like literally when they're
listening to this, it's probably good Friday, and that's what we've chosen to talk about today.
Oh, okay. Yeah. So Easter crickets? I have no. I'm just, I was going to give a weird
Bible verse about crickets dying in six weeks, and so you better be right with Jesus.
Yeah, because three days is coming. But now we're going to go to something else since this is the last one
before Easter.
So give me a moment
if y'all want to keep talking.
Sight, what are you doing for Easter eggs?
Looking for Easter eggs.
What are you talking about?
What do y'all cook on Easter?
Y'all have like Easter fish fries?
What do y'all do?
Easter crawfish bowls or?
We've done that before.
Yeah.
Crawfish bull is overrated.
Yeah, the cleanup of crawfish bowls.
Crawfish.
It's a big deal to do that.
Just go to Crawfish City.
That's a lot of work involved in a crawfish.
I do like to cook them, though.
It's fun, but it's like, that's a whole job.
Yeah, I just don't like the cleanup.
Like the pot full of salty, scald and water that you,
whatever you pour it on is going to die.
Like, you know, just.
Well, I always like that part of it.
It goes the color.
The what?
You throw them in the water.
Oh, and they change color?
Yeah, they change color.
That you would too, buddy.
Yeah, I bet you'd go.
I bet you'd come out a little red.
Oh, wow.
God of mercy.
All right, you got it?
No, I went to the wrong.
I went to John and I was looking for Matthew.
But now I'm in Matthew.
Matthew.
Matthew really wins when it comes to the verse about Jesus coming back to life, right?
There you go.
Because there's all of them like, hey, everybody was running to the tomb.
That's pretty cool.
A lot of cool stuff's happening.
Everybody's confused.
A couple of the women were like, they took him.
He's not there.
But the coolest part of the whole story, I think is it from Matthew 28, 5 and 6.
The angel said to the women, do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here.
He is risen just as he said he would.
Come and see the place where he lay.
That's what Easter's all about.
Amen.
He ain't in a tomb.
You don't have to be in a, well, you do have to be in a tomb, but you ain't got to stay in.
Stay there, though.
Yeah, he ain't going to be there long.
Change of address pretty quick.
So we hope you find, hey, and let me just invite you to church.
I don't know what your plans are for Easter, but odds are, if you listen to us, you pass by a church
or you've seen a church at some point.
I don't care what the sign says.
And when in doubt, go with your mama.
Yeah.
Yeah, there you go.
Go with your mama.
Go with your daddy.
Yeah.
Or ask a friend where they're going.
And you know what?
Celebrate the resurrection.
This Easter.
I know some people that work.
at churches. They're planning on some visitors being there this week.
Spoiler alert, it's okay if your kids go find eggs after it.
That's what? They'll be just fine.
Yep, we'd love to have you.
That's right.
As a member of the church, come join us this Sunday for Easter.
We'll see y'all next time right here in the duck call room.
Happy Easter, everyone.
Happy Easter.
We'll see y'all on the next go-around.
Martin?
How's your neat?
Hey, go buy some crock.
